It's <Speech_Female> something like you <Speech_Female> said to have on the background. <Speech_Female> So that's what makes it <Speech_Female> a bi level <Speech_Female> movie <SpeakerChange> even <Speech_Male> though it's very enjoyable <Speech_Male> and there's <Speech_Male> no shame in making <Speech_Male> a successful <Speech_Male> genre <Speech_Male> be <Speech_Male> movie <Speech_Male> salmon. That <Speech_Male> best one of the things. We <Speech_Male> like about setback. He <Speech_Male> dabbles <Speech_Male> in many pools. <Speech_Male> He doesn't need to achieve <Speech_Male> greatness every time. <Speech_Male> And i feel <Speech_Male> like he wouldn't <Speech_Male> he would feel like he isn't <Speech_Male> stretching <Speech_Male> himself <SpeakerChange> enough if he <Speech_Female> did you've every <Speech_Female> time like it's nice <Speech_Female> to see a movie. It's <Speech_Female> kind of a small movie. It only <Speech_Female> costs six and a half <Speech_Female> million to make. <Speech_Female> Thank you wikipedia. <Speech_Female> And it grossed <Speech_Female> one hundred sixty <Speech_Female> seven million <Speech_Female> dollars. <Speech_Female> And i feel like hollywood <Speech_Female> should make more <Speech_Female> movies like this. <Speech_Female> That are like to <Speech_Female> make but they still look <Speech_Female> really good in our super <Speech_Female> entertaining. <Speech_Female> It's not like a whole <Speech_Female> like extravaganza. <Speech_Female> No one got <Speech_Female> shot. There was <Speech_Female> a gun in the <Speech_Female> sorority party <Speech_Female> scene. And i was like. Oh my <Speech_Female> god. Why does <SpeakerChange> he have a gun. <Speech_Female> And i was like all right. It's a <Speech_Male> prop from the strip <Speech_Music_Male> <Speech_Male> <SpeakerChange> <Speech_Male> so that was nice <Speech_Male> about labor <Speech_Male> scandal. The great <Speech_Male> thing about making a movie <Speech_Male> for six and a half million <Speech_Male> dollars is <Speech_Male> that is a small <Speech_Male> enough amount of money. <Speech_Male> That <Speech_Male> sorta beg and <Speech_Male> tatum <Speech_Male> could ended. Did finance <Speech_Male> it themselves. <Speech_Male> They're <Speech_Male> a bunch of renting. <Speech_Male> A <Speech_Male> hollywood produces <Speech_Male> is skimming off <Speech_Male> the vast majority <Speech_Male> of that hundred and six <Speech_Male> million in profits. <Speech_Male> This <Speech_Male> costs money and and <Speech_Male> made one hundred million <Speech_Male> and the producers steven <Speech_Male> soderbergh and channing. <Speech_Male> Tatum nets like <Speech_Male> obviously <Speech_Male> going to share that with <Speech_Male> a bunch of other people. But <Speech_Male> that's basically fifty million <Speech_Male> dollars each <SpeakerChange> which <Speech_Male> isn't amazing <Speech_Male> day from this movie. <Speech_Male> Yeah good <Speech_Male> job does <Speech_Male> more money than you could <Speech_Male> make <Silence> food superhero <SpeakerChange> movie. <Speech_Female> It <Speech_Female> feels like this <Speech_Female> was a fun movie to <Speech_Female> make fun <Speech_Music_Female> movie to watch. <SpeakerChange> <Speech_Music_Male> I think it's great. <Speech_Music_Male> That's <Speech_Music_Male> it for magic <Speech_Music_Male> mike. next <Speech_Music_Male> <Advertisement> week. "An amazing benefit has internet. Research turned up that he did it all himself. Yeah this movie is out of biographical about yes right to stripper in tampa. And i don't know one of the things that i really wake about this movie. Is it shows how much work labor goes into their act. It really portrays like sex work as work and really put thought and effort into it and they practice and it's like physically demanding lua have to say that it was magic. Mike execs l. more than magic. Mike itself really showed the amount of work. They put into just pumping i n and watching that diet. Which is the main qualifications you need to be as favorites but you need highly visible muscles and therefore you need to be very lean and very muscle. I continue maintain that the first magic. Mike is about the economy and the second magic. Mike is about stripping although in the first one there's a scene i don't remember which dancer it was. But he lifts up like a heavier they're always lifting up the women. That's like a very core gimmick picking up a woman is an inland mail strip clubs have as someone who has not been too many of these cases. I don't know i've never been to one either shane. I this is on a research yelling on our part. We should have gone for research. Maybe it's a slate plus episode or something but anyway he picks up the heavier woman on. Uc he hurts his back. And i was like ooh occupational hazard right there. I bet you can't get workers comp or anything must be really hard on your body on it. Maybe in the biden white house. Well there is the whole speech. The dallas gives at the very beginning of the movie. Basically saying you're not allowed to do this not allowed to do that. But i don't see any police in here and you look like a bunch of lawbreakers to me and that's it right. I mean as we were saying everything. It's all cash under the table. Every single job that mike has is. I'm almost certain not being reported to the irs. Right yes yes i really. I love the opening scene. There as someone who is very passionate about there being a difference between the law and enforcement of the law. I think it's a great opening scene. What was the opening scene. I don't remember was it won't touch like goes through his body and he's like candidate touch this can And then he grabs his crotch and he says you can't touch this. But i see a bunch of lawbreakers here. Finally last one ladies. Can you tell us the law says that you cannot but i see i see a lot of law. Breakers inside yes. There's a lot of touching. I thought you were talking for some reason about the union. The roofing scene where the guys like. I'm not bringing in a union worker for this. Like i'll pay you ten dollars an hour and there's haggling there and it's just so sad that's sad without look funny bits and without nikon hey grabbing his crotch so matthew mcconaughey i think he's just the star of this thing. I mean i know channing. Tatum is technically the star and he. He's wonderful delightful. But mcconnell i just being really is wonderful. Yes in the spoiler podcasts. They wanted him to win an oscar for this. But i don't. I just couldn't watch that like triumphant final stripping scene of matthew mcconaughey as without thinking. Is this the next governor of texas. So he can't be any more ridiculous in the current governor of texas and he would play the bongos to. They got the bongos in there. He said alright. Alright alright like a million times just to make sure you knew who he was right. I mean it was incredible is good piece of casting then. He suddenly steals every scene. He's in in contradistinction. As you say to most of the rest of the cost including lake elvis presley's granddaughter with the pig. Yeah every time. I watched the movie. I'm just like i forgot. There is a small pig in this movie. Just randomly with a bottle that was disturbing. She was feeding the pig with the bottle right. Yeah i didn't care the ho character the existence of that character who she is what she said she has one line. "I just wanted to point out so okay so this is a movie about chain. You're saying this is a movie about economic precarity. What is the message of movie. What is it telling us about economic precarity. I think what it tells us. No one in the movie seems to have any sort of safety net except for mike who has his thirteen thousand dollars in a safe but one mistake by this kid that he has to use most of it to stop these people from destroying his house and then his entire savings is gone and he's got up the next day and go again from gig trying to make ends meet. He doesn't really get a paycheck per se but everyone seems to be living basically from paycheck to paycheck with the potentially the exception of the medical assistant sister of the kid. Although i would say she also doesn't seem like she. She seems to have her shipped together. But she doesn't. She's got the knockoff. Furniture living paycheck to paycheck. I'm sure she is. The speech of course comes from dallas from matthew mcconaughey when he basically tells mike that there's no way he can quit. There's no he can leave because like he needs this job and dallas who represents capital in this movie compared to mike you represents labor capital hit holds all. Because that's that's the speech now whether it's true or not is interesting but it's also interesting that dallas is the worker. He is out there on stage gyrating and flashing his muscles as much as any of the rest of them right. That is not a purely extractive. Form of capitalism dallas is performing here. I mean i think that dallas in many ways represents capital looks like a lot of the time in the united states like it doesn't look like the very top where people are just like not working and collecting rents. He wants to see himself that way but he actually still has to hustle and he doesn't actually have much capital at all. It all could fall through tomorrow. He's been waiting forever to be able to get the second strip club in miami and this is like some great triumph. He's able to like just scraped together enough by the way stealing from his workers because he keeps telling people all through the movie. Like you'll get one hundred dollars at the end of the night and then at the end of night comes. Here's the seventy five dollars. I promise you whatever it is. He says and he finally scraped together enough for one more branch of the strip club. Or it's not even one. I think he closes isn't closing down to miami. Yeah staying with one brunch act at this point with some matthew mcconaughey dallas research. Okay so apparently he in the script wasn't supposed to dance at all but matthew mcconaughey insisted on doing a dance in the film which was that amazing good ending scene where he just gives it his all his like sweating and people are going crazy. Second fact about that scene. Is that the extras went. So crazy with matthew mcconaughey as stripping that they ripped his g-string off for real and that's going and so that scene where he's like covering his crotch because his g. string has been ripped off. That is something that wasn't supposed to happen but they just went with it and there you have it back in march. That scene again yes. Slate money is sponsored this week by. At and t. active. "My daughter is a movie about a dancer named mike who just wants to make. Furniture is supported his ambitions. Now it's a movie about the gig economy okay in a post recession. Great recession worlds and carry of a freelance work. Say more about this change because shane is the one who picked the film. Okay so number one. Yes we have to say shane. You pick this movie lead stars at the beginning before we start talking about disquisitions about the tensions between labor and capital. You pick this movie you when where were you in. When was it the you. I saw the phenomenon that is magic. Meg i actually. I cannot remember the first time. I saw magic mike. The first movie the one that we're talking about. But i do remember that when the second one came out magic mike l. Which is a more fun movie. Although not so much about the economy felix and i had some wine and decided that we were going to go to the movies we had dinner and then we decided there was a midnight showing the local movie. Yeah but the one of the reasons he wanted to see it was that you liked the first one. You had already seen the best one at that point yes to i think when we saw nitric my xl. I had already seen the first one and already seen magic mike. Xl once before the and this is because you are a fan steven soderbergh right. Yes and i am a fan of movies about male strippers. It's a noble genre. Are there any other movies about male strippers as one about the coal miners. We should remember that one that came out in like the ninety s. Maybe late eighties was not born yet. So being this one about the coal miners. If i remember correctly and i can probably look this up was basically an economic empowerment movie. It was this very down on. Its luck northern coal mining town and everyone was unemployed and miserable and then all of the former coal miners lost their jobs got together and created a group of male strippers and it was fun and it was a triumphant ending when it was the opposite of this movie. The full monty they ago. Plus i think this movie is one in a line of movies about strippers and economics because flashdance from the eighties was essentially like the same kind of narrative. She's a stripper but she wants to be taken seriously. But there's class issues and then after magic mike. There's hustler's based on a jessica new york magazine a new classic which maybe we wanna do in the season where the strippers basically rob. The bankers bankers drug them and rob them and steal their credit cards. And it's also sort of economic tale also about the great recession right jane Yeah that was the new york new york city great recession stripper tail. And this is the more. The florida recession stripper. You know yes. Two sides of the same coin. Sort of jaylo and channing. Tatum are kind of the n- actually no. I don't think that's right but similar chain police this movie for us in in its proper. Gio time paroled context. This is after the florida. Housing boom his best. And yet there's still some work for rufus. But i get enough so he works as a roofer but that's not his only job as far as i can tell he. Has i think at least four different as a freelance jobs. Things he's got going so he has some work as a roofer but it's not enough to fully pay the bills. He also has an auto detailing business at night he works as a stripper and this is all to try to save money to start a furniture business because he his passion is to design and make furniture but he can't do that because he can't get alone because he doesn't have a credit score or he has terrible credit score. You doesn't really. it's never really clear. Why is it so bad. What it's like in the four hundred. There's a scene where he goes to a bank for a low very low. We don't know exactly. Don't know why why his credit scores so love. Please do and for this. I'm going to flash back to the first season of slate. Money goes to the movies when we watched indecent proposal and one of the first things that woody harrelson the architects when he comes into his million dollars is he. Is this very famous. Frank gehry cod board chad and one of the first things that we see in magic mike when he starts talking about his business is that he has a modest florida upstairs. Apartment living situation but in the medium modest but yeah but anyway he has this apartment sun-drenched department and in the middle of the apartment. That is a pair of vintage brown me. Sandra bacelona chaz which even in the depths of the great recession florida. You have to pay a lot of money to get those chest. I might. theory reasoning. Bad credit score is because he's been splurging on vintage furniture and beachfront apartment bet. I'm sure cost him most of his the money he makes and he all of these things that he does he gets paid in cash there so much cash in this movie and you just can't exist in twenty ten worlds only on cash because then you're not building credit and your credit score is going to be terrible. That's explaining shane. Do you think that. Mike the titular mike of the movie is what the financial services industry would call on banked. I bet he has a bank account by it. Doesn't have very much money on it in it. I mean i. I would say he has a debit card for maybe his auto detailing business like he needs a bank account for that. But certainly the construction roofing job. He's getting paid in cash under the table and the stripping job. he's getting paid in cash. Probably under the table odium if you will is where he is paid in cash and he but he gets a cut of the door to remember. Yeah baby boomer. Miami looking got a couple of loopholes. Gotta get through with the Real estate attorneys down there. But after that it's gonna be all green lights what you need from me..

"I think i'm kind of done with prequels. Keep you know. I would prefer to keep it linear. Maybe a couple of flashbacks. you know. that's fine. But i would prefer to just new story. New set of characters chugging. Yeah you know ditch ditch the guys who he's around and find a new group or just have him being a carpenter of of sorts but anyways so i still enjoy the movie. I i think it's charming. It's fun. I think as you said that there is a pretty immediate loss of command with the direction and i think it just feels like there's not nearly as much going on underneath as was the first especially watching the two fairly close together. Maybe i if. I hadn't seen it for a couple years like it with the releases. I might feel differently but i think that that hurts it. A little bit for me It still looks good. Not as good as soderbergh. of course i do. Really like the sprinkling of these different characters that they encounter like i think ami mcdowell is awesome and that that scene with her group in the house is great. That's my favorite scene of the road trip. Yeah i i think elizabeth banks Jada pinkett smith is very good. I think the scene where they're in the The the house or the club. Whatever and channing. Tatum is dancing. I think all that stuff is really fun and enjoyable. Amber heard is in this very briefly. She's all right and so yeah to sum up. There's not. There's not a lot going on but i still find it entertaining and yeah i would bring on magic mike three. Why not. no. I mean i probably watch a third for me. I think the thing. I think that this one hits some of the traps that the last one avoided. I feel like some of them get a little bit more. Hokey in their type. I think matt bomer especially gets a lot. Hokey or in. I'm a i'm a level. Three reiki healer. And i'm burning sage in the van and all present. I was and i didn't enjoy so you know. I think that they get into that sort of. I don't know this weird dude bro. Frat guy kind of persona. It feels like a bunch of of peter pans who never really grew up on a road trip together. And honestly i think that instead of this being a road trip movie i'd have preferred if it had been a little bit more of like a competition movie where instead of chocking the jada pinkett seen or the the jada pinkett seen sequence with a michael strahan cameo anna donald glover cameo twitch cameo and i think if we had just condensed it down into he shows up. He has a conversation with jada. they have passed. They have conflict she goes. You know what you want me. Fine bring out white chocolate again. And he had to prove that he's still had that and then he got her along. And then we went into the andie macdowell sequence. I think that that would have played a lot better for me. Just because for me that portion again it just got saggy. There were whole sections of this movie. Where i was like. What is this about and the whole movie. The second magic. Mike movie.

"Kind of off and on relationship is adds a little bit. She's she doesn't do a whole lot. But i think it's somewhat interesting. It's more interesting until the end. The end is where it gets a little bit. Yeah and i don't mind as much the relationship with the sister i think. The main issue is with alex For who. I don't really care about as you were saying. And i yeah i. I don't think he's as charismatic. And i'm not really given a reason as you. You said to really care about him. I love channing. Tatum and you know i'll watch him all day. But i think the the times it did cut away. I was like all right. Yeah let's get back you know. Yeah channing angers the whole movie. And i almost never thought that i'd be at the at a place of lake. It's it's almost worth the watch for his performance alone. I the olivia munn thing. Works for me until the end and then when it ends it ends up for me kind of also harming the dynamic that he had with the sister because it almost feels like a. Oh this other thing. That i was maybe going to do and maybe get serious with. But it didn't work didn't work so now i'll go with option b. Yeah and so for me that kind of harmed that a little bit. Another big note For me was that if he wanted to if he really cared about the sister and really cared about this kid. I did need channing and maybe this was stephen. Maybe this channing. Maybe it was the script. I needed mike to feel more engaged when The kid overdoses or is like over served as potentially going to ask rate. 'cause he's like oh look. He's fine is breathing. It's okay no harm no foul and it's like a dude could've died in your home. Yeah you should at least be a little bit more concerned. Come on mike. I agree will one random point. I love the scene at the gym. Where matthew mcconaughey. As alex peta for how to dance yeah great stuff and yeah so i think it's yeah it's just a really charming really interesting film but you know i think if you have not seen it or you have hesitation to watch it for whatever reason i would really check it out because there's a lot more there than you would think know for. I was i was very pleasantly surprised. And if i you know not that. I'm some gold metric by which you should measure any kind of experience but i'm one of those people who walked in with a certain amount of skepticism and walked out pleasantly surprised And so. I think that i'm a pretty tough nut to crack on certain things and so i think that if you have any hesitation i was in that camp and i was really happy with what i got..

"Got a couple of loopholes. Gotta get through with the real estate attorneys down there but after that it's gonna be all green lights. What you need from me was muscle. Gotta keep doing heads out you. Focus a big brother this team. You keep that up. You're going mega a lot more than this door. Money again. That equity kid. You say all right So magic mike was released in two thousand twelve. It's directed by steven soderbergh. And it stars. Matthew mcconaughey channing. Tatum elemmann alex. Pedder for james martin. Kelly cody horn reid. Caroline I love you know. Vm in there My getting anybody big riley cough technically gets a title card at the end. So i guess technically yeah Joe manganelli can ever say his name right and some other people but you can. You can do that research on your own. Gabriel delays ceus. Oh yeah and the synopsis is a male stripper teaches a young performer. How to party. Pick up women and make easy money. So yeah we'll paul. You had suggested we we do these. These two films would. Would you like to kick things off your tells your background with these films shore So i i hadn't seen either of them before now and yeah and so my whole idea was really. You know we went. We did show girls weeded spring breakers. Which a lot of people you know decries exploitation of And so i was like you know. Let's go and do something. That's meant to sort of counterbalance that and the first thing that popped in my mind was magic mike and magic mike. Xl great name. love that title. 'cause really like are you supposed to call it. Max like magic mike. Extra large is supposed to call it. Magic mike double xl lake. There's there's i've only heard. Xl which to be honest. I actually do genuinely like okay but So i think it's clever but you know it doesn't i think roll off the tongue particularly well so going into it. I knew that it was soderbergh. Film earliest the first one was and i knew that he was someone that i generally generally like does a filmmaker. I enjoy contagion. I like ocean's eleven and thirteen. I wasn't forgetting twelve ulf. I don't enjoy it. i side effects haven't seen it. it's good stuff I really enjoy. Logan lucky so i really enjoy. Soderbergh is a filmmaker. He's very very distinct kind of curious. I was like you know if this is something that had soderbergh's attention you know. I'll i'll i'll give it a watch and for the most part. I actually think that it's pretty successful. I think that it has some foibles. I think that it has A little bit of plotting as problem and time as an issue. It's a little bit long in the tooth for me but honestly i was actually pleasantly surprised by the first one how. 'bout.

"Which we wrote it as posing the question. I'm so sorry. I wrote in which we wrote it as posing the question what do you think. Do you think that this is a thing And because it's a conversation because it's a conversation. I going back to what i said. I've said before. I think that we always focus on one individual occurrence as being like the make or break right. That shirt didn't isn't the make or break of over sexualize over sexualization but the fact that this girl will see pictures of herself with that shirt on at some point and her dad buys it. It'd be buys it as a gift. But the the idea is that one. Small instance and then another small instance in another small instance and all of a sudden. This girl is thinking that her whole her sole purpose is to date some guy and be there. I eight and to be a wife in. That's her only job is to do that. You know you could say the same for some boy shirts that are out there and so forth. But i think it's just if we let all of the circumstances that our kids encounter drive what they believe without us intervening by explaining. No you don't have to just be a wife and be a girlfriend. You can be a doctor or an astronaut all of those things. Yeah caster. I just think that a lot of times we and i saw this school a lot right. A lot is put on the external factors. It's the teachers responsibility. it's this person. The coach's responsibility to this person's responsibility there is also a parent's responsibility to help the kid navigate. All of those little instances that they will encounter throughout their day so then that's a bigger conversation absolute. I mean absolutely and but if if we were specifically talking about a one d. I would you know. But i get that. It's a bigger issue and that it's not so much about the onesie as it is about how it's different for girls and boys and i totally get it and what i found because i do have teenage daughter. Who's in middle school and this was our first year. Her going into sixth grade was the first year that she didn't have a uniform school. Cause they ain't gonna private school but they had a uniform kindergarten through fifth grade. It was a public school. They just was red polo blue polo white polo or in khaki shorts or khaki pants so i was really nervous about buying her clothing for for middle school. Especially as she's a woman who's sorry he'd go and keep going. What are you doing mike. My cat's just did the funniest thing. I'm sorry i to take a picture of it. Sorry sorry that was trying to make a a a legitimate point here. I i do i apologize. I really do shit. This your daughter at this up for all sorts of awards on production in flow in planning was i was. I was trying to find clothing. That was age appropriate for a twelve year old. Who going into middle school. Okay and i stumbled across had no idea that carter's don't work for carter's don't have never campaigned. Carter's call me They have a tween section. That has extremely proper clothing. The shorts are not short. They don't have a tiny in seem. The shirts are super cute. They've hoodies and sweaters. Just bought her three bathing suits because they didn't know there are bathing. Suits for these girls. That are like i'm sorry you forgot the rest of the asp piece. I can see this twelve year olds cheeks like no. There's the line nope nope no cover your hiney and i love it. I just bought her a whole bunch of stuff online. I had a code. I was like yes. carter's which is oshkosh and carter's the same company or whatever we stumbled into there and into their at the beginning of the school year because they had an outlet and we were at the outlet mall. And i walked in. And i was like honey. They don't this is baby clothes. She goes no. I saw a sign that said twelve to fourteen and she looked over and she was like mom. I really love this stuff. And i was like you can have anything you want. You have want in here whatever you want by it. You need shorts. You need you anything you want. And we did ninety percent of her school shopping there and that that she wanted to she was like i really liked the store and i was like. Oh my god has the best day ever. And so i let her by whatever she wanted and then when she grew out of the she's Had another growth spurt. This is what happens especially in middle school with these kids. She was like my jeans tight. I said no problem. What's what are those. Those were twelve. let's get the fourteen. Let me see that pair of pants. I online i typed in the typed in the number. Because you wanted. Those exact found on the website had them shipped to the house and i was nice. Great because of everything was appropriate. So my point is. I understand that girls are over sexualize but my job is apparent is to find clothing. That doesn't do that to my kid. And that's what i'm going to do. That's my job right. Yeah absolutely i This conversation reminded me of that time in seventh grade. When i used to dress like this and was pretending to put a popsicle mumba. I don't know if you can see it but you see my miniskirt. How short it is. Yeah i don't know. But i i'm wondering. Is there anything that can be done about it. I mean crop. I just think about the kids this day and age and.

I wasn't even going to talk. Because i didn't know if another one's door -able she. Her accent is the key. I yeah i. I love it when people with accents like that yell. I'm sorry. are we boring. You meredith look. I've started this new thing. Where i get up early and by this point in the day i'm ready to just go to bed and call it quits. How early always got number now. I've really never gotten up early. Okay what is your definition of early. They just passed a note talking crap about me. 'cause fight him no he was talking crap about me but it's not now i didn't mean that look i got it. I read your note secrets. Don't make friends. So i get up at six to get sophia up and i'll lay back down for about twenty five thirty minutes. Because then she gets out the door. Dave takes her to the bus stop. And then i get up so like between six thirty and six forty is when erling up now and that's very early because i normally don't like to get out of the bed until around nine thirty nine. How do you get the kids all. Yeah you don't have to. When i stopped having to get up in the morning to help the kids i stopped. I was like come to the bed to kiss me. Goodbye get out that al razi. So i've been getting up in exercising. I've been getting at least one load of laundry. Done all of the dishes going through the house before. Like eight forty five. Am it's stupid. That's good so good but it's still good for you. I'm so tired by like two o'clock. I'm surprised at when you have a because you're you're like a very organized detail person. So i i feel honestly. I feel like we're opposites meredith. You make lists and i go to your house which has been way too long but you didn't. You never sat down. You're one of the people who is always up doing something picking up stuff rearranging stuff doings. I'm not like that like if there's a seat my in it. Yeah i don't like to sit. I think well that's my anxiety i can't i can't sit so i just don't i. Mike hopped up buzzing be which which is why. I'm i've been having a hard time. Because i i hurt my foot a couple of months ago and i keep running on it and i think i made it worse. Yeah and it hurts. Yes we ask girl and and I do around four four to five miles a day and this week i only went for two two walks because my foot hurt so bad. I'm so sorry. And that's how i go out. I need that time to like be out and like outta my own head. That's why i do that. Like i like the idea of walking with headphones. Like i like the idea of it. You should buy it now. My knees are first of all. My knees aren't cut out for that. Walking walking is pretty low impact. They i didn't i didn't save become a triathlete. I said. try walking to bunch. You realize i am using walking like you heard the words. Come out of your mouth right i hear ya. It's more so like getting murdered. That might about what if you do it in the daytime is too hot. It's too hot n people see me here. Like oh my god it would be a dream to be able to walk on but like honestly i know i'm not a super hot commodity and i feel like if somebody is going to take somebody they're gonna go for somebody who is a small stature. I feel like. I have an advantage in that in that they look at me. And they're like dang that's a lot of work to get that into my car in you know what i mean so that like is what's the word it's too early it reaffirming anyway. I just don't want to chance. It is what i'm getting at. Tammy just said it looks like you lost weight. Did you lose weight mayor. She just said it. The comment just flashed up on the screen. You know. I do know you lot as saying no tammy's comments. I didn't flash comment backup there. You go. I didn't make it up. But i i wasn't gonna push to talk about it but i'm proud of you friend thank you. I am hesitant to talk about my weight because it fluctuates so much and my whole entire life i have said on a diet are not just not and so i don't like talking about it because it's such a joke because the next week they'll see me like eating doughnuts like what the thing but i lost Fourteen pounds and proud of you. Thank you very much. Lots of drugs lots of said. I'm just getting. Where was it you you. You took a left hand turn. I'm just kidding. I'm eating healthy. No carbs and a lot of water Whatever those carbs as we age their killers. that's the price juror. And it's what we all want what we crave. It's what we wanna have. You know just a whole loaf of bread. I need nothing else sir. Just the this low with buddah but cheese. One of my best friend is getting married and The end of this month. And i'm a bridesmaid dude. And already like the largest one in like in all dimensions height with everything. And so i'm like i just keep telling myself you don't wanna look like a sasquatch in all the pictures so i i'm at least gonna try to slim this way so that if i'm just like wow. Is she a supermodel. She's much taller than everybody. But they you know what i mean th. They won't be like oh who invited the linebacker into the wedding party. What's going on. You're so hard on yourself. Well thank you. i have A vision of how a simple self and apparently it's different than everybody would. It doesn't matter as it's what i think that matters the most. Ms would sucks. I wish i could put other people's eyes on myself when i look.

Butterflies Are Secret Monsters

"On today's show butterflies. That seemed to be sucking on eyeballs. We had about it at wanted to tell you all about it. This all started the other day when i hopped on the phone with chandra maitra. She's an assistant professor of biology at north central college in illinois and. John told me that she'd seen these pictures where it looked like butterflies were feeding on the eyes of the animals. Animals like turtles. You usually see them sort of like mobbing turtles head. And it's like poor turtle looking at right now 'cause it's really getting mobbed by the butterflies. Those pictures as wow. This is incredible. And i was like why. Why are they going to be is well. We think it's the tears right. Coming from the is wait. So they're like sucking the tears from the turtle. Uh-huh studies have found that butterflies want to all these tears for one main reason. They're full of salt and butterflies. Need that salt help in nerves and muscles work on applies also slip up salt for mud puddles which is why he's known as paddling. It's called puzzling because quite often. If you're out on a hike you'll see butterflies landed around water bodies around puddles and they seem to be drinking something in the mud so butterflies on actually sucking on eyeballs slapping up tears to get salt but this mystery and has another twist when you take a close look at who shows up around the watering hall. It's kind of a sausage fest it's mostly the blokes doing all these paddling. And chandra on did why. Why are the males. Mostly scrounging around the salt. She figured that maybe this is about butterfly. Bunking it's all for the nookie detest this. She got a bunch of male butterflies specifically pipeline swallow tales. This absolutely gorgeous blue and black butterfly with these beautiful tales. They look dull when you see them in the shade but then they move into the sun and suddenly they flash. These crazy bright colors. She took these sexy pot vines. Swallowtail dudes and use them to find out if she was right it having salt up the game so she some mail butterflies salts and gave up his just wash up in a cage that some females and then watched with it with a nurse patterson exactly for awhile. My twitter handle was a voyeur. After watching more than one hundred butterfly bunking sessions. She ran the numbers and what we found was had sold actually made more frequently than males who were given water so it looks like salt was affecting They're they're how lucky baker yes exactly and what's particularly call isn't shandra even noticed that the male butterflies seemed to be showing off the fact that they had salt through the way that they flooded so in this species the the courtroom is really beautiful so the male flies around the female he basically making these vertical swoops around the female. If you're a human female walking and does a male sort of running in circles around you look beautiful. I am locale beautiful. Scrubbing through video. Recordings of these butterflies circles. Shandra that the salty fellas had the fancy footwork. Oh wing work. These little magic. Mike's took longer and more showy swoops. It was like in butterfly language. They were saying look. I have sold. Because i can fly in this way out of the researchers found that after all these dancing during the old rump. Bumpy the male injects the female a little package of salt and spam which she can then pass on to her future. Babies perhaps helping them survive so next time a photo swarms around the internet of a butterfly seeming to suck and able out of a turtle. You'll know that they're doing it for a pretty good cause to make more butterfly babies and by the way some butterflies will go to even more desperate measures to get this salt. They'll suck it. Who or dead animals. I know that there is one species of butterflies. That i that i've read about. That will drink a blood. There they're weird weird little creatures we imagine them with like rainbows and unicorns together. The butterflies are drinking tears and blood and poop that signs fasces will be back with regular episodes in much. And you wanna see what we're up to. In the meantime you can follow us on instagram. How to let teenage girls express body confidence

"As a woman who is. I'm super pro feminist for you know i like sam against slut chaining ownership of your body likely to what you want. Express yourself all stuff. Why are we. You and i do agree with that. In some regard what harper's at is like. Why are you sexualizing. Everything and it's like it's hard because that's what we want. Change you know in in the feminist movement is we do. We are trying to change that. Three conception of just because i'm wearing fish nets or shorts or this or that doesn't mean that i'm wearing it in order to gain the attention but that is sort of the byproduct of in this brand and so it's trying to teach that balance and it is. It's one of those things where it's like. Look when you're older and this is what you want like fuck it. Who cares like you want to ride the subway with your tits out. I mean it's illegal in most states but a british new york again. So you know court you anyway right. But it's trying to teach them like control of that in the ownership of it and what comes along with that and it's it's really. I think it's probably harder harder. It's a very different time. It in which we are raising our girls in that i. I don't wanna shame them for expressing themselves taking pride in their body and and you know they're young girls but i don't want them to be ashamed of sex or ashamed of sexuality or any like that it's totally natural but at the same time it's like oh my god but not like right. It's it's a very fine line. I feel like twenty eight is a fine line. We talked about the difference between boys. It was actually really good conversation because you know she was like i just you know. She says she just hates the word. You know that. That word study. And i was like yeah i do too. I've heard that complaint from From from Migrants at times too about how older man used the term or or this or that and it feels you know an inherently misogynistic and patriarchal when you say that to a younger yes and of course and it is and there's not an equivalent of that you know and we're boys yeah and i said to her. I said listen. If i had boy and he was fourteen years old and it was halloween. Came up dressed up. Like magic mike. I would say the same thing to him back on appropriate to your age. You're gonna do that later than fine but at fourteen you know if he was wearing a dance belt with like dollar bills stuffed into that. I'd probably be like not appropriate stabbing. I'm gonna go with that. Yeah that's that's a line for sure but it was. It was interesting. 'cause then later i was talking to nobody. Would nobody would shame. How an exactly. Exactly and i was just gonna say so. We're talking about that later. On like when i saw him telling him and i showed him the costumes because he was like. Whoa you know when he saw how i was like what i said but what i bought thereafter france. How second ball. I said who cares like what you would think that with with a guy and he never be party with a bunch of boys with their shirts off an ice pool. And nobody's like all right you know and that's You know that's betty something. That i thought was kind of interesting. And then he actually his point. Because i said you know something about you know how i hate the word. You know sluts in horn there and he said something like well. I mean unless you take money for sex than your horror. And i was actually your sex where i should have sex worker. I have friends that are sex workers. And i'm not yet. This is something you and i've talked about is being sex. Positives healthy sexuality. You know i actually just Someone that i'm friends with on instagram. She goes by thong ria on instagram And her name. Is zoe She just sent me. Her book called carnal knowledge. And it's like the sex. Ed you never got in school. And she's incredible. I love her personality. She's very fun. She'll take a picture of like three chins with red half naked or whatever super sex positive supervising positive doesn't filter her stock who's just like Visit an i love that. That's the stuff that i'm trying to teach my girls in how to express themselves as there's nothing wrong with it. It's very positive and like taking away. The stigma of of sex work

If you want it to be hot or you could cooler, I must white person as you guys have heard many times on this podcast and honest to God I literally went to Dunkin yesterday and I'm probably GonNa go again today and I ordered a giant iced Macchiato and it felt so good I was like cooling down and I'm going to add own milk probably today like I said because I'm probably gonNA go again and honestly they've got some Great. New drinks you have got to try the well other than the delicious. That is now at Dunkin you should definitely try the Dunkin signature pumpkin spice Lante because again it is fall and I know you want some pumpkin spice so try to Dunkin Signature pumpkin spice. Latte with the old milk and then you could also try the ICED oatmeal. Delicious I think I might have to do that today, the hot milk Lante, the child La Tei that sounds really good and the Pumpkin ice coffee. Again, who doesn't love fall and Duncan has all the fall options. So again, I'm going to order a giant Dunkin's drink today and I'll probably do it without milk because I am trying to wean off dairy. Milk can also be ordered in place of milk or cream Dunkin's full lineup of hot ICED FROZEN COFFEE ESPRESSO LA days, and can also be used in specialty beverages like shy or much a lot as that's another one I wanted to try. I WANNA try the macho lot as at Dunkin because they look delicious they're green I saw an image of one and there was like little beads of condensation. It looked surrogate the flavors of fall are at Duncan let's go you guys I love that. Okay, let's do it. Let's buckle up and do cringe mode Magic Mike ex ex l grant hall. I was grateful for the opportunity to watch this for the first time, but I will also be grateful that we will be moving on. And I don't have to talk about these things on a podcast so. Kate. WHAT IS THE TO SEND SYNOPSIS OF MAGIC? Mike X. L.. You guys. We only need one sense for this. There's no plot in this movie, which is why it's so great yeah, Magic Mike and his kings of Tampa stripper friends travel to a stripper convention in Myrtle beach and all sorts of colorful characters long way. And that's the movie well done. That's accurate. Let's say into the highlights there's a lot. This was straight up and enjoyable movie I had a good time kate. What's your top highlight? My top highlight is a lot of the things that we talked about the last movie were fixed and it's mostly just like the point of view from which this movie is made. It's made by men, but it's very much made for women with the female gaze in mind the theme is just all about like worshiping women making them feel special and love scene and beautiful and sexy, and literally just like all the men, and this would be like bad as their goal and it's great. It is great. This is the movie we were promised. Magic Mike we were promised. Yes. And so going into this movie I remember I was like, well, I better not be fucking duped again guess what I wasn't thank God Amelia. Did you watch his movie for the first time? The seat? No this is this is a second time watching I remember watching back. It was like this movie is good. Oh my God agree I also it exceeded expectations and the real ones do these because we were like Magic Mike Two is good. Watching it back like it's at layer multiple scenes that are great. All the characters are great. They get some development going, which is good. Yeah. Ed The problems we have with the last one. Great. Number it's funny green. We had a great time a lot more female characters in this movie. We left Cody Horn behind she does not appear anywhere in this movie. And we replaced with a lot of actresses which I guess which I love I love that it wasn't just young young young young people in their twenties. It was Jada Pinkett Smith and Andie macdowell like some legit actresses who I think kind of make up for the absence of Matthew mcconaughey 'cause those are like especially Jada, Pinkett Smith. She's a huge star and she is so great in this movie. She's so funny and so just her presence is so powerful Yeah. I wrote initially that she has more chemistry with channing than amber herd who's like kind of his love interest kind of not I'll get into that later but like she could have chemistry with just a brick layer. She says in this movie first of all is extremely empowering gene an emcee for the end and she has all these speeches about like you know, I want you to feel worships. Good. Way. She's like there's GonNa be some grown woman shit. Plots incredible. She captivates entire arena. Also, this will go into a little bit later but like her in the juxtaposition between her and Elizabeth bakes was only. But. Yes, Jada amazing and that was supposed to be Jamie Fox and then they ended up handed it to her and Candidate, women at yeah. 'cause you get like in the final scene she's at this convention. It's like her talking to all these other women first of all women of every shape size race age represented in this movie and like stripped on in this movie when Yeah Portland like underrated. It's not just like a USB totally for these like yeah their time in the first movie there was like one Bachelorette party I was just somebody a young white chick and told her horn yet right and you get like kind of woman is just like just sort of seeing like given her moment, which is great yeah. Even. Not to harp on this too much. But like I feel like even the like Andy McDowell characters, there's a scene where she and a bunch of girlfriends of the similar of a similar age are hanging out together and then they all kind of talk about like their romantic experiences, their sexual experiences. Empowered them just as much as they do the younger characters in this movie and it totally awesome. It's awesome. It is awesome. What's another highlight Pete? Highlight is again, this movie just really knows their audience it's very much four women, and at the end of this convention, the guys the Kings of Tampere like getting ready for their routine and Joe Manganiello is watching the routine. That's on stage and.

"If you haven't just look IOS fourteen home screens and they've Gonda these extremely difficult lanes to download all these pictures that match all these like aesthetics from Pinterest, which apparently had like a huge like search this week like no one has used pinterest in years and all of a sudden kids downloaded pinterest that they could get matching aesthetic pictures for their home screens. Like This stands have taken it over link home screens outlined. One of them is like a Harry styles aesthetic gold like home screen beam. Why am I tried I tried well yeah they're honestly lovely. Much work I watched like to talk to oriels on how to do this, and you have to download all the pictures you have to go to APP isn't it? Crazy? It's so hard to do this. Anymore I can't work in I. Found I spent hours hours trying to do this I could come up with was taking one low photo and making it like a widget that's come up with. These people are doing it I have one winter on my phone. I downloaded the weather. It's. Look at it and see what temperature it is without clicking on it, and that was this byard is hard to this China. Art. Honestly, like since I've gotten to talk I've been like I'm young I'm a youth like I can still do it and I saw this and was like I'm sold I just do not understand it. So hard I try to Y'all I know I'm really Dallas speaking of the youths tiktok is in peril for another week I don't know what is going on basically. We've talked about this trump is trying to get a band trying to get the APP. The APP is like trying to get off the APP store or whatever, and then Tiktok is now asked a federal judge to stop the trump administration from imposing the ban on the APP over national security concerns. So his back and forth, there's a chance this software company, Oracle Gains Control Tiktok, and then the user data. And then with Walmart, buys one fifth ownership of the APP anyway it's a will. They won't they situation guys now more than ever you should download the Tiktok out because you know we may. It's last legs I might I don't know how to just youtube vine videos to get my fix I. Don't know what I'm GonNa do horrible. We've already been through this once with by it can't happen again I know. Videos that's kind of funny. Next ranch. Also, I don't know if you've ever seen the Katharine mcphee video, which I might computer accidentally just played were she's she's doing Broadway for the Broadway show waitress and she's like in her dressing room and she goes hi Mike. Gabe. Plays and then she's speaking to her gay boys I guess and she's just talking to them about makeup and getting ready for waitress. Anyway the thing is like people thought that meant she's like pro lgbtq.

"And what she's so right like let's be honest it's never going to be. Tina. Turner. So was. There was popcorn. ooh, there was our first duet singers people. Yeah they're like, maybe it's going Nicon Vanessa Shea which would make sense they're thirsty for fame. Is He gonNA pull off his mask and go obviously I'm Nicholas. Like God I would love that I would actually. Yeah I hope so too. And then the sun she sang, she was pretty good. The GIRAFFE WHO's like in like a Hamilton costume. But when also giraffe way CAMELIA. Don't fact check this but didn't I say in last season of the or the I wanted to be a son if you made us all like what low we would be taste. Oh, pretty sure. I chose a son. So someone's that's he done listener. Exact, they're listening to this podcast. And then we also have. Sorry a dragon who was eliminated sadly. Yes. Very sad spoiler alert it was Busta rhymes cheese. Anyone on this plane and I'd be like, yeah. All right. That sounds hair. She could be on the Messinger and just want to do a quick Jenny. McCarthy Watch my girl Jenny love her icon. She was back with her just take guesses. They had a package for the draft where the draft talked about like I was on top of the world, but then crashed and burned. So he mentioned the term crash and burn and Jenny took this. To say, oh Travis Barker because he was a horrific play accident. That's tough. Not The right thing to say it really it's not. So as undefeated, she's great. I just love her guesses. Yeah. Oh there you go. That's that's what's going on in the land of trash television and make you fat thing he. GENUINELY NECESSARY UPDATE Were also checking in with times most influential people of two twenty twenty just released this week. Quick note at the top get real. Union Dwayne Wade are so beautiful. It's only not their photos she was incredible. With them. A lot of truly amazing people on this obviously, because time we're focusing on the floor fan that like the celebs and the musicians and stuff like that. But also you know genuinely lot of people out there changing the world. So check out sections by we're GONNA talk about the CELEBS. So what was your most unexpected or your favorite like Celeb- writing about? Another CELEB- Kate. Do you have an answer for this? Yeah. This is the real draw. This list to me like I don't really care who's on care about who's writing about who because all the blurbs are written by other celebrities and sometimes it works sometimes, it doesn't and when it works I think it's great. My example that I wanted to shout out with. The blurb for Bone joon-ho who obviously won the Oscar for parasite was written by Tilda Swinton who he worked with on Snow Piercer Antilles went. Right and she's just the most intense yet intelligent yet accenture person I feel like that's exactly who you are writing your blurb like you want them to write the things about you that one are like believable and real but also like no one else would think to say you know. So I just my life goal now is to like a friend. Told US win becoming funnel person in that order and have told us win a blurb about me yeah. I think we talk about this on his Pied I. Love when like celebs from different aspects or different tiers celebrity world's cross pads like when Ashley Simpson. Like Meryl Streep by Jones on third and they just pass by two other they're both celebrities to ships in the night but they just don't interact in their world outlook was walking through Brentwood and Katherine Schwarzenegger Pratt just did not even things was anything but exactly these blurbs remind me a lot of that I had no idea that the weekend and Elton John, obviously a two very. Influential in themselves pop popstars but I just didn't know didn't think that they would like cross paths and be important to one another. Elton. John wrote about the weekend he said he's gotten incredible imagination as complementary. Anyway I just love the cross pollination of things like that. But on more serious note, lean away about Michaela Cole and wrote much more eloquently than I kind of encapsulates. Show I may destroy. You is just much better. Sat was very clumsy with Wi- like did she just Disney much better writer obviously than I she said you don't just watch him kill a coal shows you experience them again just much better said than anyone can come up with So read that blurb and then just browsing through these juxtaposition of reading that really liked empowered amazing and then Kim Kardashian West read about Josie walked and like him was talking about how joe made sly with north and I was like, why are these in the same section? Winners there James. Taylor. Swift wrote about Phoebe Waller Bridge and she came up with the most twenty twenty cringe line if like she could have done a lot better said phoebe waller bridge and all that she has achieved is indeed a big mood. Ghostwriter sizzling better than like that as your last line to describe phoebe. Waller Bridge and that is question. Do we think those words came from Taylor Swift I wouldn't doubt it. But however, how many of these celebrities actually wrote these I have I write for the Ringer Dot Com on occasion we know how hard it is to blurb things to people to blurb things to even our writers that write for a living to get them to submit these things on time in Nice way like there's just no way that some of these people are doing this themselves Elliott totally you. List no shade the time like it's not like I think people from time writing them but like Celebrities I would say, maybe half of them, I think in general a lot of celebrities have their apologies are probably not written by them alive. Formal statements about any certainly not a lot. So yeah I would assume maybe but told us was some like you are weird enough that you can tell they were real. Definitely row big mood she. Yeah. Okay. All right moving on. We're GONNA do this week in social media slash network. The T. very exciting is at the top guys g deed and Zane have had their baby over the weekend. It's a baby girl. We have only little photos of her little hand, but it looks quite cute already. They're very excited GD road on instagram our girl joined us. This weekend already changed our world show in. Love. Zane did the same low hand set our baby girls here healthy and beautiful goes on to say like what he's feeling right now and he can't describe it. It's an impossible task Proud to nowhere practical our mind thankful for the life we have together anyway, just great lovely news to end this week and happy for them both do you guys have thoughts on this? No name my only my only thought is that I think there were so many times when we thought this baby had already been born. slightly. anti-climax. Okay. She is here finally because there had been like four like people think she's barring people think she's born it's not born yet. Okay. Now it's for. The boy cried wolf a little bit about this baby. I. Just WanNa know her name and. Also, I said in our group tags but I do want a photo, but I wanna be your speckling sensitive because that is a little newborn child but eventually just want to see how cure she'll be so cute anyway that put me in a good mood. Let's talk about the new iphone update Kate. Okay. So the fourteen update came out this week I downloaded it. We're excited because some of us on time have some weird phone habits. For example, kind mcmullan allegedly organizes her APPS. In by color. Rainbow. Unacceptable. Confirm or deny, but I've heard that that happens and I think that she inspired the new Iowa's fourteen trends because you can get widgets on your phone and the youths discovered you can also using the shortcuts APP change the entire aesthetic of your phone to match. So I'm sure you've seen it..
