"I'm worried they as we record this, I haven't seen the result of the sixers game over the weekend but that was something that I was thinking of fivethirtyeight actually raised the sixers chances of winning the title, the most when the quarantine happens, and now that I'm thinking about it, I'm like. Well, if they played the worst on the road when nobody's cheering for them like for people who don't know the Sixers were like ten and twenty two on the road and then like almost undefeated at home right? Just, wondering like how that's going to break out like what is the most on the road you could possibly be. Exactly, it's on the road extrapolated one hundred times, right? So we'll see how that works out for them Jj. Looking good though all all the all the beer shotgun. WHO Like they're? They're completely find their zone because there are no fans. I mean, it was like J. What is satirizes? J. Rex just like a shooting specialist but yes, moves that like blew up on twitter people like what yeah? Like faked one way through a no look pass the other like Magic Johnson. How why wonder if like going to Duke for so long you get so used to verbal abuse that. Take. US another part of your brain to play you're like I was using about twenty percentage lockout people to focus him. Were like officially the most hated basketball player in the world for the entire decade. So I'm sure Christian Leitner. It didn't work out so well for but those guys. Do you think like past choke artist or like watching this like I could have done this this would have been. Like Nicaragua. Turning over a table. He doesn't get to just go in there. Yeah Anyway. So it'll be interesting and I will continue to watch all the clever ways they find a shock, beers? In. The in. The bubble burst. So what you're about to hear the audio quality. Audio quality is not great come from argued friend Chris Crofton full on Chris Crofton episode Chris's Total Wild Card, and that extends to his audio in this episode. So. Just brakes your ears because we figured rather than have everyone tweet us to make sure we know what we're hearing. Yes, we do but that's the cold brew chaos that Mr Kroft He is speaking into a microphone. The whole time we're forced to assume wild at the microphone was plugged into his belly button or just a house plant nearby or something because did not. Come through. "That would be Brian Finley Chris Perfect and Eric Roberts. Thanks guys, really appreciate all that you do. Right you know, let me love it can't live without a Mecca non-sports been here since February eighth here to stay and Mackenzie, we know the NBA is back because some Jubran turn eighty dollars in the fifty three thousand DM Jim last week because he had a five team money line parley including the New Jersey Nets who were fifteen one on the money line they were nineteen point dogs died you said New Jersey Nets I'm at Brooklyn Nets even drinking. Milwaukee loses outright part of a five team parlay. LemMe not buried lead. Are. The bucks in trouble what was the biggest upset NBA history so it's not what you want not what coach Bud had in mind and also by the way just so you know Julius erving and Jason Kidd are no longer on the nets either so. I didn't know that new whole new team in fact, there are but there were a bunch of g leaguers eight of them eight out of the eleven played in the G. League this year and they beat a team, the head statistically one of the best regular seasons we ever seen I don't think that the same team Bernie. Let me ask you this bit of a trick question. When do you think is the last time they lost? Three out of five games. The mighty Milwaukee. Bucks. When the junior Bridgeman, how about the last five games they played in March they lost three five as you detect a pattern there. Just I. Mean this is a team that was beating everyone by eleven points per game. The kind of stuff the ninety-six bowls would do and they've lost six of ten obviously a lot of different things going on they already have the number one seed clinched. But I don't think the best. Mentally I'm just not buying that number one thing clinch this year because there's no homecourt advantage. What I am seeing is I, don't think the bucks defense is very good. You're right you've you've no no reason to say, Oh, well, we already have what we want. This is the exact time to get to the best possible way you can play at this current moment in time i? Think the nets didn't try the BUXTON try today and they lost to the Mavericks Square Luca Danni they couldn't stop him. I'll tell you who I think did try today on the number of minutes key players playing that for the Lakers and I'll tell you we'll get TJ warrant a minute because it speaks to a larger narrative but in the Anna out gangbusters, Lakers took the lead at Halftime Indiana got the lead back in the fourth quarter. Would they call crunch time? What Magic Johnson used to call winning time? I thought the Lakers wilted I'm not going to overreact, but I've got to ask you the fact that they're missing regime Rondo and every Bradley now is that part of the reason you don't have guards that you can. Rely on often your offense stagnates and they had their second and their third worst offensive performance of the entire season against the thunder and against the raptors they weren't great tonight they scored less than a hundred points without Lebron, against the rockets, there's no indication to me that says, they have one of the better offenses in league, and if you look at the entire season Bernie, they have the fifteenth best half court offense not the kind of thing that wins championships in this league they're not able to shoot threes I don't see any offensive rhythm I see a lot of one on one I. So ball driving. Spinning around then and what they'll say is what Kendrick Perkins will say tomorrow on TV as well they don't care they're waiting for Lebron to go and Lebron Mode Lebron doesn't want to lose consecutive games over and over in this bubble. I. Think he's in Lebron Mode, right? I just think he's thirty seven or whatever thirty five I don't think he's the kind of player that can turn it on like Janas I. Think we'll be able to the good news is if you've been listening to straight OUTTA VEGAS PHYSIC- you and I we love the fact that the Lakers over under a five and a half wins with the eight remaining games like the under that's already cashed. You think they'll let us Castro tickets already if. They won't do that, but they've already had their fourth loss. All right. You talked about the deep guaranteed. A bunch of nonni Hey it's happening every sport. There was a pitcher of Single-a pitcher last year that beat the. He, pitching for the Marlins and he beat the mets. So you're looking at an NBA talent pool here as well. Guys are making a name for themselves including TJ warranted today you might never heard of nine TJ warned before this bubble you have now averaging thirty five points per game. Fourteenth. Fourteenth overall pick in two thousand, fourteen. I mean anybody is so close if you're an NBA player right now and you get twenty percent better shooting and you get twenty percent more confident, you can go like why Leonard did like Paul George did from an average player to one of the best in the League teaching we're not there yet but very exciting. All right. The thing we're able to do on the show now that. We weren't able to do for one hundred and thirty four days unless you wanted to talk rush Ping Pong Bundesliga soccer, which we did was give a best. Yes you've got a best bet tomorrow and frankly I like it I've been killing the NBA check out my twitter at Mac and river that put all these out completely free tomorrow I'm going the Portland Trailblazers minus two for Philadelphia Seventy Sixers Dame time was lame time but today. He missed two free throws lost the game against the Clippers got made fun for it. deserved. But that's not what he's about. He's a ninety percents clutch shooter and just a leadership. He's the kind of guy this guy's forget about it a race, the race, the chalkboard we are going to win this game because we need to there is there must win mode to catch up with the grizzlies. The sixers don't really care if they get the fifth or the sixth seed I think..
Magic Johnson makes admission about his Twitter account
"Johnson the great magic Johnson, either has the best or worst account on NBA twitter terrible with almost no inbetween. gator would agree as someone who's name is escaping me. One said magic tweets like someone who thinks they're the only one with television, providing the most lukewarm takes and updates possible to everyone without a TV usually a day, or so after whatever he's tweeting. tweeting about happen, that's pretty good. That's actually pretty pretty spot on why he loved tweeting. And what are essentially ESPN? APP push alerts so much. Is that why he wanted to step down from running the Lakers as an endlessly fascinating question s for the people are really fixated on this. As the writer of this story writes, it turns out. It gets even more interesting because apparently magic isn't even the ones sending his own tweets as he. He revealed to Rob Lowe at a truly bizarre exchange. Why wouldn't rob lowe and Magic Johnson have a conversation about this an appearance on Rob Pelinka's lookalike podcast. I didn't Rob Pelinka look like Rob Lowe Rob Lowe rights or said Dino. Pardon my take their podcast. Those guys are huge fans as you know. And I said Look, you're the best boards podcast GonNa be interviewing magic. He's going to be one of my first guest you. You of new questions. You have any thoughts blah. Blah Blah Blah Blah I don't know I have somebody right out my tweets I. Tell them what I wanted to say, and they write them down. That's actually what Kuhn did for you. John. Yeah yeah, exact, exact, same thing, so yeah I can see it four point nine million followers. He has on twitter I. Don't think follow Magic Johnson, because he's so milk milk toast, so here's the thing. I have learned and I. I agree with this take that a lot of celebrities athletes. They don't want to be on social media. They understand that it can ruin their careers, but it becomes part of deals that they signed with sponsors, and all this other stuff that they need to be promoting their brands on social media, so if you really are worried about yourself, messing up on social media, but you're being forced to buy some contract that you signed to make a bunch of money promoting something then I. Guess that's a good solution.

A lot of the the successful podcasts hosts are in their own right experts. Entrepreneurs Ultra successful business coaches, consultants, speakers, authors, the whole nine yards. These the people that you want to be connected with these are the people that can refer you speaking engagements. They can help promote your book. They have a big email list that they might be able to promote your latest. Service offering these are the people that you want to be in relationship with because they can send you business, not just be a client. They can send you a stream of clients, and so you. WanNa turn those podcasts interviews with them into not just them interviewing you and then moving on any never talk to each other again. You'RE GONNA. Turn them into real real relationships and we're GONNA. Talk about four insider tactics to do that number one. After the interview when you're chitchatting behind the scenes after the record button is off, ask them. Hey, just out of curiosity. Like how can I help? Who Can? Who can I keep an eye out for to introduce you to like? Who is that person in your world? That that would really make a difference. And I can tell you the difference that's made for me in my life to ask people that question I literally cannot express how it almost stops people in their tracks and causes them to completely go. While I first of all I appreciate Let me let me think okay well. You know I'm looking for this type of person. Even if they can't come up with something, and even if the person they're looking for is not someone that you know right away in your life that you can send an introduction email. That's fine. The questions were count and the genuine offer if it's January. The genuine offer is what really makes an impact. It's absolutely incredible now. I'll tell you I. did this with with a gallon I had on on my podcast. And I just wanted to thank her for her time and ask that same question and. She mentioned that was looking for people to speak at her women's conference in Texas, the said okay. I think I have someone for you I didn't think anything of it. I made a simple introduction email behind the scenes I get a message from the person I introduced you to her two. Weeks later like I had completely forgotten that I'd made the introduction I got this incredible facing measure the city. I just wanted to thank you. That was life changing. I've found my tribe. It was so awesome like I can't wait to tell you about it. Can we please set up a calls that I can tell you how much I appreciate that introduction like that absolutely blew me away. The same thing will happen to you especially as you get into the habit of asking people who you can introduce them to, and then being intentional about actually making strategic introductions behind the scenes, so that's number one officer strategic introductions wherever possible follow through and actually do it. Number two. Insider tactic to turn and podcast interviews into relationships is send a follow up note now. This is if you're busy entrepreneur. This is ridiculously hard to do most of us and I will tell you sitting down and doing the actual handwritten note cards slapping him into an envelope putting a stamp on it throwing in the mailbox. A step too far can do it like way way too way too hard for me. so what I did. Is I I told my my va for my log for the company called. Send out cards. actually got. Right here actually I received this one. And very nice card from a friend of mine, and basically I can build this card in their. APP and have a handwritten note and written right handwritten. Looking note the goes into is sent from the APP and I. Can send it out to anybody. I want so what I did is I built a low system with my overseas va I gave her. Her my log in for the send out cards account and every day she goes into my calendar, and she looks at who I had caused with the previous day sends me a message on boxer and says hey. I see to call John, Smith and Sarah Johnson, and whatever Hey, would you like me to send cards to and I will say okay. Okay. Send cards to these three people and I. Just give her a voice message to tell exactly what I wanted to say in each card. Teach different person she reaches out sends him. A nice email, says hey. Matt would like to send you a thank you note. He really enjoyed talking to you the other day. Would you mind sending your mailing address so that we can send you a nice a nice car? always get a response. First of all the response we get to that email alone would blow you away. then when we actually follow through in the actually get the note I get thank you notes to the thank you. Notes

Daly was upset on how we were practicing and so he decided that today. We're GONNA play hard. He doesn't want any excuses so he divided the team up east versus West. So all the players on the East Michael Jordan Scottie. Pippen Larry Bird. Patrick Ewing Charles Barkley at that time plan for Philadelphia and we gave them the college guide named Kristen Lake. Near you can have him and then we had all the West guys. You Know Myself. Karl Malone Clyde Drexler. Chris Mullin John Stockton and David Robinson. And so we scrimmage and I'll tell you the eagles kicked in and nobody wanted any guy to take advantage of him and score on him and this was the best basketball I've ever played in my life and I would say all the other nine guys would say the same thing. It was truly amazing because we were going back and forth at each other. Nobody let any guy drive. They were trying to block shots and we were talking So we were just having a good time going at each other but one thing I did that got Michael Jordan going. Is We up about ten points. And so I went over and said Michael. If you don't turn into Air Jordan we're GONNA blow you out. What did I say that for horror? That tone is long already way out his own.
Would Michael Jordan Rule in Today's NBA?
"Kirk. So I I swear. I promise we're not here to debate. Mj versus Lebron. At least not until the end of the interview believe me I have my stance. It is locked and loaded. We'll get to that. I don't want to alienate half the audience before we begin so over the last few weeks. Those of us who have watched the last dance have borne witness to the greatness. That is Michael. Jordan and that greatness does inform the Lebron debate insofar as it has reminded us of how dominant Jordan was but of course he was playing a different era. Basketball was very different from how it is today which can make it hard to compare those two players or to evaluate how Jordan would fare in today's NBA. So let's start here and established that point of comparison. What was the league like Jordan came into it? Well Jordan came into the in nineteen eighty four and it was a very very different place. The best players in the League at that time or Magic Johnson. Magic Johnson Larry Bird bird again. Larry saying the crowd here. This is what came to see. Kareem abdul-jabbar was still really good Long story short meaning the the NBA was run by big men just as it had been since its entire district and eight of the ten highest play players by the time Jordan even retired centers Jordan was drafted in Nineteen eighty-four just to give you an idea dominant. How valuable centers were sixteen of the twenty previous? Mvp Award winners heading into the one thousand nine hundred four eighty five season worst centers so Jordan entered an MBA. That's fair to characterize as a centers -ly And obviously it's very very different than what we're describing here in twenty twenty. So how big of a deal was it? That the best player in the League Michael Jordan was a shooting dude. You can't overstate. How big of a deal. It was really weird. I mean magic had showed us that point guards could be great. Bird showed us the power forwards and shooting. Forwards could be great no. Mvp had ever come from the shooting. Guard position nobody had really ever dominated the leak or won championships from that position or in that way and again one of the main things the makes Michael Jordan's such a special character in NBA. History is that he deformed the various static of MBA greatness. disrupted to use the term from from Silicon Valley. What it meant and what it looked like to be. Nba superstar love deformed as a verb because it sort of implies that he bent the League to his own. Will he did that man? I mean he came in there and it was violent and it was beautiful and it was for the betterment of the future of the sport a couple of weeks ago. You're at a piece about why. Michael Jordan was such a transcendent score. Can you explain what it was that? Made that dominant so unusual. Yeah well it starts with the fact that he's a he's a guard and again to contextualize it against what was going on in the eighties. Nineties is is shooting guards in wings didn't dominate the NBA. We had the occasional superstar like Julius Irving. So I'm not GonNa say that he was the first star wing but he was a jump shooter. Long Story Short. He was a jump shooting guard. Who could attack the Rim and boy could he attack the rim? So the early part of Jordan's careers. Obviously marked by these highlight jump. Man Silhouettes the dump contest leap from the free throw line and Chicago. Stadium can picture that in our head along Dominique to Michael Jordan but by the end Meena Jordan would beat teams with just incredible mid range shooting And if a majority of buckets in the last dance season in that second repeat came off of the mid range jump shots that either came from post plays Dribble pull-ups quick stops just an endless array of mid range jumpers. Mj On the way away. Jumper and one scout told me a really stuck out is like I've been watching the last dance for eight hours now. I haven't seen the same move twice. It's not like he had to go to move over and over again. All those phase pretty close but man he he did it all but he did it in this area that we don't use very much anymore. Aka Amid Ridge and he's also very difficult shots right thinking about it this way. If you're going up against the Bulls in his nineteen ninety two or nineteen ninety-seven and year in opposing coach. Year number one objective is pretty clear If you can stop or slowdown Michael Jordan. You have a chance. If can't you don't So almost every night the Jordan played he would get the other teams best defender. And that person would WANNA play their best game of the year because everybody in their Rena was watching it and so he did. This eighty two games a year to put up the best sort of scoring numbers in the League against the best defensive performers in the league so you made a heat map for Jordan and then in the same story you made one for harden and you put them next to each other and trying to comparison it almost looks like urban and rural America right or like to to heat maps. That are just wildly different. Almost like people playing different sports one hundred percent in hardened deserves all the credit in the world for becoming the best score of this era but this era is dominated by sort of this moneyball dogma efficiency efficiency efficiency and when you look at James Harden shot signature. You see a guy who shoots near the hoop. He's great Basket attacking guard like Jordan But then away from the painting of the student only shoots threes. He avoids the Mid Range just like he avoids a shaving cream. And and then when you look at say Jordan you see almost the exact opposite remember that old image of Pan Jia and how the continent sort of fit together these two shots hearts kind of look like South America and Africa. Where Jordan is one shape all mid range and then a hardest jump shot activity is sort of surrounding that all three point airs. Jordan didn't shoot a lot of threes.

"Dissing from people and make sure you wear your mask and do what you're supposed to do hopefully to get back to you know living our lives the way. We probably won't be the way we used to but close to it. Anyway Sir thanks again magic. Take Tony next to a little dig in their heels when he said Detroit. Fancy just won't come back to that you know I struck is a lot of things that magic said right there during that conversation but he one of the very first thing she said was that he was surprised that Michael decided to go ahead with a project like this. If magic didn't think it was going to go like that. I wonder what happened to make Michael. Now's the time. Let's put this thing together. Twenty Sixteen Man Twenty. There's no real. There's no real talent. I know a lot of people. WanNa point to the Golden State. Warriors Lebron James. But there's no telling why did I mean he's been asked over and over and you know at some point when you're asked and over and over and over and over and over at some point she said you know what Steph time. I'm ready to do it. Go ahead let's do it. It's just too hard to believe someone who everyone who's anyone who spent any time. Tell you how competitive he is that he just happened to pick that day. Not just a year but that day specifically to green light it. It's just. It's a strange coincidence. If it is one yeah but but it. What does that have to do? I guess with them in an undefeated with him telling the story of the ninety eight bullet. Like what does that have to do correlation? It's like well I look. We've learned anything about Michael that he wants to make sure that people know what he's about and maybe he saw that parade and saw that said you know what it's time for me to remind people but you do realize everybody even George Donald Little Kids know who Michael Jordan is they know who is they know who he that they might not remember the details prior to this documentary my son was pulling up highlights about Michael Jordan looking at it for you. Keep your son. The director straight up told us that he went to Mike and said listen. There's a generation growing up who don't know size shoes which was troop shoes. That is true. He he's one of those guys that has John Madden is video game guy to a generation of people. They don't know that he was a coach. At a raiders. They don't know that he was the iconic color voice on football broadcasts for multiple decades. He's the video game guy. That Michael Jordan wanted to remind people. I'm not just the guy with the shoes. I'm the greatest player that's ever put on a pair of shoes. I would agree with all of the things you guys just said. That was Dorothy. I always knew. Yeah I didn't know you know I was there so I was you guys. Were having such a great conversation. I didn't want to interrupt you Q. Keesa I know but Travis started talking Travis Auditorium. I didn't want to interrupt them. He was on a roll radio to know your cue. I did your words just interrupt. No no no you were rolling and you got. Were very passionate about your argument at least but at least Magic Johnson clear the airways. I gotta go on a show coming up next. Had A great day. We'll see you Friday morning..

"And also embarrassed right because in highschool not only the guys who make the team. No you got cut but the whole community now you know so so. Michael came back from being cut to be in This unbelievable basketball player and champion both in college and in the NBA I was around him when you talk about the gambling situation. I've gamble with them. We play cards. I mean we. We've had so many great long nights playing cards and having fun playing games like hunk and bid whist and spades and so Now the blackjack thing. That's Michael's thing. That's not my thing so I used to go to the casinos and just as I told him. I'm be the highest paid cheerleader. You've ever had that you praise but You know we've had so many great so nothing surprised me. I just I'm just happy that the world is getting a see how he built not only his career but also his company as well you know and And His tennis shoes are still selling out. All over the world. Magic Johnson. Joining us here on the morning show. I mentioned at the beginning that you were surprised that Michael decided to do this at this point in his life because Michael since leaving basketball has been pretty private guy. We don't see in here from him a lot. You're the exact opposite you've been in the public eye really from the time that you are at Michigan state up until now in. We're at the point in the documentary. Where michaels getting ready to go play baseball and kind of get away from it all. Did you ever have a moment? We said I don't need this anymore. I just want to go and live my life. I don't need to be in the center of the spotlight all the time. No what did I say in our documentary when Labor was trying to find a backdoor door. Magic is always going in the front door who I am. I'm not no you know. That's one thing. Good about Kishan. We had the personalities we enjoy people. We enjoy I guess the same part of it but also to You know.

"Also possibly leveraging the fact that they got a guy that they feel like they can win with that is not a significant downgrade for what Dak Prescott is offering. And here's the thing about the contract. Obviously something is wrong now. What it has that feeling like. He's back deck overvaluing. What he should get what? That's his age telling him to stand pat and thinking about what to get over this the Dallas cowboys trying to play games with a contract. That's not structure the way it should be starts before guy that you feel like. It's a franchise quarterback I'm not willing to go into the fact that they want to get a deal. Then I've heard that from every day on body say that they want to get a deal done and this the number of years and this is how much they offered him. We know two things that matter when it comes to contracts One is is the player willing to accept that. And what's the guaranteed money every day heels this fluff in the NFL for everybody out there so when you see these hundred million dollar contracts come across the TV screen. Don't think that that hundred million dollars is what that player is going to take home out the taxes and after paying the ages. Look at the guaranteed money and decide whether that quarterback or player got enough money for what services. He's giving it to their team. This is leveraged play. The Dallas Cowboys. Saying the Dak Prescott. Look I can get another guy in here that we can do what you do and feel like that we can win with this guy absent of giving you the code. That's what this is about. Mark is the only thing I I hope you can hear me. I'll begin but here's the only way we did. Our challenge is the only thing that I would challenge you on. Max You keep saying that you know what he's good but he's not great but you acknowledge that he has potential. Well you're not getting paid for just what you did in the past because as Dez Bryant highlighted it they pay Tony Romo when Tony. Romo didn't even have a winning record and again we consider being saying obviously Tony. Romo might have been a little better than him. But that's upside at age. Twenty six in this day and age having forty eight thought onto his belt and at least at least three playoff games under his belt. We can't ignore all of that so I'm looking at it from the standpoint. You're talking about the future. Do you look at him and he somebody that does that is devoid of the potential to potentially be. I don't think anybody can say that. And if you can't say that all you have to go on after that. It's not pretentious. But his character. And what you're looking at. You GotTa recuperate you've got CD lamb. And you got Michael Gallup and you gotTa Zeke. You'll Elliott and you've got an offensive line and you got a new head coach accomplished and Jason Garrett telling Moore got more than one year on his resume as an offensive coordinator. What the Hell is the problem with paying this guy? Who has proven to you that he's trustworthy? He's no scrub and put tent. You live in the future. They've done it for a multitude of other people. They would have done it for Tony. Romo why can't you do up at that? Prescott that they offering their offering Prescott thirty million a year ago. Guaranteed contract along your Carson Wentz or Jared Goff. So since they're offering that to him let's not pretend they're making the same offer to get dealt one year three million with the potential to make seven. That's peanuts because Dacca's better than don't forget about the TV better than them now but lack it and let them play it like he went but what. I'm okay but that's listen shouldn't have taken care of. Dako already a little better. Smart move for the cowboys is two years ago. Signed up to an extension for fifteen a year. He'd have taken it and save some money on the back end. The cowboys were penny wise and pound foolish. When I'm saying is put Andy Dalton onto that cowboys team last year. How many how much would it be? Eight nate seventy nine. Six and ten. They'd be in that ballpark somewhere. That offers you at the moment a very slight premium overdose going forward a bigger one. Probably which is why ladies and gentlemen. He's being offered an enormous game. Who's and got a three million dollars? Eagles Pay Carson Wentz. Even though Nick foles was the one that won't playoff games. That was foolish. They just back. The bottom line is if you a player you watching this. Is Our life straight up. Amen all right fair enough. I also WANNA point out the cowboys. waived cooper rush. She's been the backup quarterback there for the past three seasons. Hey Steven thank you so much for sticking around on the phone looking forward to you back on camera tomorrow. We'll talk to you soon back. The Chicago bears declined the fifth year. Option on quarterback Mitch Trubisky for the Twenty Twenty one season the bears showed trubisky with the second overall. Pick in two thousand seventeen ahead of Patrick mahomes out and the Shawn Watson Trubisky has twenty three in eighteen is a starter in three seasons with Chicago. Bears Eight last season. Marcus factor with us. Max I hate to say but is it fair to label trubisky of bus at this point yes so far? It is not only because they were quarterbacks who look like they're heading for the hall of fame taken after him. They traded up to get trubisky but because he simply hasn't performed very well in spite of being on some pretty good teams. You look at recent examples of athletic quarterbacks who didn't fulfill the expectations of very high draft position. Rg Three got hurt but he was a sensational rookie. Blake bortles. I think it's safe to say considering. His position was if not a bus. Then something like it you know. And we've seen with Tanna Hill. He was going to be considered a bus and then he resurrected his career. That's very strange to see that high. I like a first round pick. Who DOES THAT MARCUS? And then obviously Mariota in Winston busts. I think Bisky if he doesn't turn things around fits into that. Category fits into that category and this levels toward the fact that the team trades up. Get you as high as he went. And obviously he'll be connected with Holmes and Watson. The expectation was Mr Bisky to be the franchise quarterback. Obviously that's not what is going to be in Chicago because they did not have fifty. I think he's GonNa make like nine million dollars but also bringing nick foles to shore up that football team when you get drafted as high as Mitch. Trubisky did when you have when when teams trade up to get you and you turn out to produce this as opposed to the guys that were drafted at quarterback in the same draft in how they're producing. Not Saying you have to be them. This declared a bus. And it's because not only. It's the quarterback position but how high you were drafted and you won a good team. You're on a team that was supposed to contain as well. So yes at this point. Mr Bisky is considered. You have to show at some point that you were an excellent quarterback. Trubisky is never been an excellent. Nfl quarterback fair enough. Marcus thank you so much for being with us. Thank you for magic. Johnson for stopping by mark. Jackson will be here tomorrow. Max always a pleasure. My friend we'll see on the morning. Have a good one..

"Grim over there with amazing this teeth come out and just dominates and I'm talking about dominate the best in the game. And that's when we knew that the torch was pin myself. Lay on the Michael. What I'm GonNa tell you the moment that really got so we got back to the hotel right and so we're all the NBA had build a Nice Lounge for the place. And so Michael up there smoking on Cigar Larry and I just sitting there having a cocoa whatever and each says guys and he puts his hand on my shoulder with his hands on their shoulder and said guys. There's a new sheriff in town. So what could we say? You know what you're right now. Did you guys magic. That's hard for someone because you're you when you went out the first time you went into hiding your great great player. Mvp Cat in fact an MVP player and all that and bird had the bad back but bird was MVP's and championships. And the whole thing did you Larry ever talk about it. Like this dude is Lucky. He came along if only he would have come along in our primes. Like how did you and Larry Talk About Michael at that time? No it wasn't about that. It was like my showtime Lakers. We dominated the eighties. We won five. Championships went to the final nine times in twelve years. Larry had history. Nba Championships so now it was somebody else to start. And then in between it and pisses won back to back championships. So so it was somebody else's tyrone in Michael. The team got better. Sky Pippen became a hall of fame player and it was just their time their turn to dominate. And they did and and you have to remember something the Pistons got off by the Celtics. The boomer's got talked by Toy. You have to learn how to win a championship before you can win a championship. Michael had to learn that. What seven years in but give them credit easy understood what he had to to win the championship but he had to go through a lot of pain to get there and then the dominant magic if you have to learn to win a championship. How did you jump as a twenty year old rookie season at center? Can't sit here. Johnson Lakers didn't have to learn. How does it work like that? Let's say don come on national. Tv Live to the people have guys. Let let me get here quickly. Because we're dealing with some. We're dealing with some technical difficulties here but Stephen as not gonNA pass up an opportunity to talk to his friend. The hall of Famer Magic Johnson to Stephen as joining us on the phone right. Now Stephen on the floor is yours. Steven you there all right. We're dealing still with some difficulty. So let's continue on here and this only be quiet so this is actually right. Oh my goodness we're still working on getting back. I know he wants to talk to you. He was so excited to discuss these last Dan's episodes and we've all been looking forward to them each week magic. I WanNa talk about an issue. That still very tough for all of us especially you but we saw Kobe. And this documentary in this last episode and we saw the relationship the big brother little brother relationship between the two you have an intimate relationship obviously with Mj as you did with Koby how did they compare both on and off the court really break it down for us because it seems like Kobe is the closest thing we've ever seen to Mj. Molly you excellent. You're absolutely right and furball. Let's go to the court first. Kobe and Meyer respected. Michael Jordan is such a way that he pattern is game after. Michael's right. He's the closest thing is the closest thing to Michael that we think why because Deka score that back you've laws just like Michael Jordan. He had the same mindset and attitude just like Michael Jordan. He took no prisoners. He wanted to put his foot on your neck. He wanted to destroy you mentally and physically just like Michael Jordan and he wanted to have six championships like Michael Jordan. He'd he got close guy five but he never got that six championship now. Let's talk about off the court off the court. He wanted to build a business. Just like Michael Jordan. And you know what he was getting there to. Kobe was doing outstanding job as a business man and he was taken on that Jordan. Persona to off the court where he was building his own brand at the same time and I believe that. That's why Kobe and mice goal really enjoy each other. They were like little brother big brother because they went to places very few athletes go where they were world famous. They were able to build a successful brain and company. They were to wind championship. And then they were able to do something that we haven't seen no other flavors do and so I think they have the same mindset and so that's why they got along off the court they will great fathers and they've been great husbands and all that type of thing as well and they just had a mutual love and respect for each other and I think that's why they were close Magic get out of here. Go ahead Max for sure molly can I ask another one? That's sell for it years but magic before we get out of here what stood out because it was gone over again in this latest installment of the last dance the Jordan doc series was that Krause said heading into the All Star Break Jerry. Krause the GM. Hey we're going to have another coach. We want Michael Jordan. Stay but if he stays. He's going to have to play for this other coach so it's his decision. Which is such bull? It's unbelievable because if Michael Jordan's given you the ultimatum and you're the GM of the team then you got your marching orders. That means Phil Jackson must stay if you want Michael Jordan. In other words crass was saying we're the boss. I'm the boss Ryan is the boss and Michael saying if you want me. Then I'm calling this shot. What is what was your thought about the way that went down at the time especially with the perspective today where that doesn't go down like that for Lebron James and that caliber player were across just destroy a dynasty. I think if they were able to keep the team together got dipping and his money. Keep Michael Happy because he was very happy with starting an with Phil Jackson as a coach and he knew yet great role players around him. They would probably want ten eleven twelve championships. You know they had that type of run in them but when you start making the superstars unhappy and thinking that management is more important than the guys that play on the basketball court. Then he got a chance to see. That was huge. Mistake and Michael Jordan. Say Oh you just treat me like I'm just win Basketball Games without me while I'm GonNa show you that you.
Sports on the Sidelines
"Has been postponed that was march eleventh when an announcer called off the Oklahoma City Thunder and Utah Jazz game. Just before tip off. Most of US remember that day it was the day. President trump announced the travel restrictions from Europe. The day Tom Hanks and read a Wilson said they had tested positive for Kovic nineteen and the day the NBA suspended the rest of the season after Rudy. Gobert the Utah Jazz Center head tested positive for the virus. You may remember go bare as the player who touched all the microphones at a Utah Jazz media event as a prank. He didn't know he was positive at the time and later apologized for it. I'm a huge basketball fan myself so I was crushed when I heard the news of the NBA suspension. But of course public health comes first to me that really was the watershed moment in the entire. Corona Virus Cova nineteen conversation and not just sports but in our culture. Christine Brennan has been covering sports for three decades. She says she hasn't seen anything like this in her entire career. I think it woke the nation and the world frankly up to the significance and the seriousness of the corona virus pandemic after the NBA suspended season. It was like a domino effect. Major league soccer in the NHL have suspended their seasons for now while Major League. Baseball is hoping to open season in May according to ESPN and the NCWA cancelled it spring and winter championships as a wolverine go blue. I love March madness. It's one of my favorite times of the year. I even had tickets to the final four this year so I was really disappointed when that didn't happen but the threat to our health and safety was too great and it wasn't just the safety of the fans it was for the safety of the athletes to eleven thousand. Olympians expected to compete in Tokyo. This summer had their plans. Put on. Hold the Twenty Twenty Summer Games now postponed until twenty twenty one. The Games have been canceled three times before. But this is the first time they've been postponed and of course even a date. That far ahead doesn't come without concerns. Christine Brennan told me well we in the summer of two thousand twenty one. We'll people feel comfortable. Flying on planes overseas will the Japanese fans feel comfortable being in big stadiums and the answer is over and over experts. I've talked to. We have no idea. We just do not know but by that point of course a lot of these. Olympic athletes will have lost months and months of training. I just don't think we know yet and I think that uncertainty is so difficult for athletes. Consider that Olympic athlete. Their whole lives for this one moment. I was hardly know just as we train for for almost a year to two years. Just make the Olympic team. That's odd the beater Amman. An Olympic distance runner twenty twenty was the fifth time he's qualified at forty three. He's also the oldest American to run the marathon in the Olympics. You know before before the device you have a goal does the one thing you have like road races coming up you. Have you have something to get ready for this time? Everything's on the air. I just training just to stay fit and the sports world isn't just waiting on the sidelines. In the midst of the Pandemic Major League Baseball is now participating in a nationwide Corona Virus Antibody Study League employees spouses and players volunteered to participate to help give a better understanding of how prevalent this virus really is so I go is not to get an obese specifically back to work go in our research is really to get a bit of understanding of what the true prevalence looks like across the nation. I spoke with Daniel Lichner. The president and lab director of the Sports Medicine Research and Testing Laboratory. They were great pot down in a great organization because the head nationwide coverage that we could access individuals that were I seem to matic regular part of the general population. You know from team owners all the way down to hotdog vendors and be sales people on Game Day and everything in between you're looking at the MLB it sounds like sort of a microcosm then of the country Representing different demographics of our country. Can Can you talk me through how it was administered? Then in how quickly then did they get results? Some people could do drive-thru program where they have a bunch of their technicians. Physicians trainers and the Individuals with the drive through. Stick their finger out the window get fingerprint can get the result literally in a matter of minutes and it seems like most people would fundamentally want to know. Then am I now essentially immune can I get infected again? I think which too soon to say what that immunity looks like now. The federal government is slowly making plans to reopen the country. As I said earlier president trump has asked major league sports commissioners to be apart of that conversation the commissioners have a tough job. They're weighing a lot of things. In making the decision of how in win to get back to work commissioners work for the owners and their league and and the owners are going to want to start playing. They're going to want to start making money again. They're not liking the losses the financial losses that they're taking of course no one is the commissioners also have to weigh the very significant health risks. Not just for the players and their families and the referees and the coaches and the TV people and the and the media people But also the fans in the stands. And if you're drawing people into a stadium and if it becomes a corona virus hotspot and all of a sudden explodes. That is the fear of every commissioner in every sport you open up too soon you bring people together and all of a sudden you have another corona virus bomb sports says we know it may not be the same for a long time the NFL draft. Which starts tonight. We'll be held. Virtually for the first time as was the WNBA draft last week. The League plans to start its regular season in September and the draft helped set that into motion. Here's NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell in an interview with ESPN. Obviously it's a different year for all of us. We had to make modifications in our offseason program We've had to make significant changes to our draft And those are all appropriate and their right to do. And we you know part of what this is about is continued to work from home by-product from home continue to do things we're supposed to do and be prepared. There's also the possibility that spectator less sports will become the new normal Christine Brennan predicts that will happen at the PGA men's golf tournament when it comes back in June and the masters in November. We could see an a masters without spectators. And that's GonNa look very strange to a lot of people. Although my prediction here is that within a couple of days of watching some of these sports events. If you watch a baseball game without spectators day is not gonNA look a strange the next day and by the third or the fourth day. You're going to be totally used and you're just going to be happy. You're watching baseball again. I think sports is walking a very fine line. It's kind of a tight rope. We want sports back. It'll make people happy it'll signal this openness that maybe we're we're coming out of this and yet you don't WanNa move too fast. Olympic runner of the Bearman thinks that the twenty twenty one Olympics will be a history making record breaking year. But I think he's GonNa going to unite us. I'm just GONNA have so much energy like a lot of things. Going every athlete winner represent contract because they know what their country went through so everybody wanted to do when do their best Magic Johnson also remains hopeful America. All of us who live in this great country that we live in. We need sports especially in a time like this but only if everybody is safe
Michael Jordan series on ESPN, 'The Last Dance,' moved up
"At home the Michael Jordan documentary the last dance premiered last night K. Y. ESPN moves up release for 'The Last Dance' documentary on Michael Jordan, 1990s Bulls
"I know this was talked down a little bit earlier Jerry Brown at all but our standards the post had a story that ESPN's import Michael Jordan documentary that everybody has been talking about ever since the preview is out there told the last dance is being moved up it was supposed to air in June but now it's being moved up to April nineteenth there was something that a lot of people have no idea about when all this was going on and we were devoid of all sorts of sports programming because we knew that this was on the way Hey move it up give us some to watch now they listen to the people and that's what's going to happen so that's gonna be something to watch ten part Michael Jordan documentary now even if you were someone who was tortured by the Jordan bowls as a Knicks fan like I was this is something that you absolutely I think you have to watch because it's going to be really really compelling it's one of the great sports figures all of our generation and of course there's nothing else going on so why would you watch it but I was really happy to see that before well one hundred percent I mean this is going to be easy get major eyeballs and it's not just from the sports fanatics the people that love Michael Jordan but it's also going to be probably mainstream to more than ever before simply because of the fact that there is nothing else going on and he is you know he's an iconic not only basketball player of a businessman personality he is somewhat you know I don't know how you feel about this always feel like he's a little bit of a recluse like he's like he's out of the spotlight but he's never really truly out of the spotlight yeah I agree a hundred percent I mean the whole pop in here there he'll give you his comments on things here and there of course is ownership in the NBA is where you see him from time to time but I mean he could he could be out there a hell of a lot more when you think about guys like Shaq and Charles Barkley and how they are on TV constantly you know Magic Johnson is absolutely everywhere well Larry bird's another one of those guys and I guess this is soaring in the background even though he's been involved and stuff but you don't see it on interviews with him either but yeah I mean he was he was the the biggest or the most famous and he only pops in and out here there and you don't see him over saturated at least you're not over saturated Michael Jordan stuff which makes this documentary even more appealing to me because I'm not like sick of Michael Jordan by any stretch of imagination because I don't see a
Malcolm Gladwell: I Am
"Malcom gladwin is a stone cold genius who loves A grade sports argument. I went onto bill. Simmons podcast and I had this totally ludicrous thing that I want to talk about. Which was I was like? Could a basketball team made up of Nigerians? An all time basketball team made up of Nigerians be the greatest basketball time and then I ended it. I amended until as I said all right I have to corollaries one is. I'm going to add west Indians because almost Indians not all mostly I'm Jamaican. Where am I what am I people from? We're from originally like I'm Ibo right most Jamaicans cable so I add the Caribbean and then I said and just refund. That's also add the rest of Southern Africa and then I construct the students. Tony Ridiculous Caribbean so busy. I say out can Africa and the Caribbean put together an all time team. It's better than an african-american team a euro team at a white American team. It's the third one. Maybe not. The answer is yes. We don't have time to do this but I will convince you. I can't convince you to Africa and the Caribbean in basketball. All Time team and also your co you qualify by or Nigeria. Will I started? I start with all of ethnic did not all? I'm only adding. I added Southern Africa. 'cause I WANNA have Steve Nash and Joel Embiid on my team. Wade Steve Nash. Born in Johannesburg. He's Canadian. No my rule is that you. Are you qualify? Virtue of your parents. Place a birth. So get all of Steve. Nash Who Play Thompson. Really? He's Bamyan are are are taking. Tim. Duncan Tim Duncan Hang Hau Kim Elijah Akeem Joel Embiid Yoenis Clay Andre iggy Dow Victor Depot Drink Igwe Dolla. Where's he from Nigeria okay? He's full on your deal and Steve. Nash I got a back court of Nash and Thomson. I got a frontcourt of Dunkin embiid. Jaanus Patrick Ewing forward a okay. Right right right right from the islands. This really is in the island. This team is insane when Patrick's coming off the bench. But how just doesn't matter but Kim Jaanus and but sure but but the other team has Lebron Kobe. Japan Michael I know. Just for starters and Steph curry just restarting Potanin Wilt Chamberlain and Bill Russell. Just just try go ahead. That's the African American teachers. Try Playing Lebron Jordan. Notice what we doing that thing ooh together. Thomas can't come in and Magic Johnson coming in. Can I read this out rushing your your appetite? Engineer Crushes Team Sport Play. You cannot Jordan Jordan and abroad and Kobe on the court at the same time out of your mind. You have all centers you have one forward you have you have guards and a bunch of centers. You got a problem with that because the modern game nobody in the known you already. Janis on Lebron an WHO's covering Jordan who's covering stats got covering step. I got clay and Andrea Diallo. Who in their day or two of the greatest lockdown defenders of the last twenty five years in the NBA? I got a clay and national or two of the pure as shooters and I have argued with the greatest defensive front court in the history of basketball. I Have Yoenis Hekim Akeem Patrick embiid. I mean I have wilt Bill Russell Shack. It's close by. Queen is not close if I had if I was restricted to white Americans. Then maybe may point so I do it as long ludicrous. It's ludicrous ludicrous. And you're right I'm wrong but so what is it that there are people took offense. How on Earth? What is they were like? Oh you know you Kim like first of all all the things to get worked up about in two thousand eighteen in America about race. This is the thing you have said about

Horse Owned By Victor Martinez Headed For Kentucky Derby
"We've seen some professional athletes. Those who bring in big money branch out into ownership after their playing days are over. Mario lemieux has won. Three Stanley Cup says owner of the Pittsburgh Penguins after leading them to two as a player. Magic Johnson Nolan Ryan and Warrick Dunne are among those who at one time co own the teams they once played for then there's Michael Jordan and Carolina David Beckham. Who's Inter- MIAMI. Mls team just began. Play this year and Lebron James who owns a piece of Liverpool in the English premier league who are among other athletes who have become owners. Then there's Victor Martinez a five time all star catcher and designated hitter primarily with the Cleveland Indians and Detroit Tigers. He decided on ownership to and now. He has a chance to win his sports. Ultimate prize shot pin Geir Mo going after the leaders and goes tencent on the outside and Paco Lopez sets him down for the driving. He's picking up versus one by one but meanwhile upfront at fifty to one of King Gary Mode now going to aid. Here's pink derm O- on the outside trying to follow your gut. Said Chan said is home on the outside inside the final furlong. Do you believe this king at forty nine to one. He doesn't just want it. He wins it off in press. I cannot think of a former professional athlete. Who owned or co owned a Kentucky Derby winner? Maybe you can. Please let me know but Victor Martinez has a chance to be something of a trailblazer and we are fortunate enough to welcome Victor Martinez for the First Time. Here to investigate. What was it like for you that day? It was crazy it was crazy man with a lot of stuff that we were just praying that you know he likes the door he likes the dirt and then you know I remember having my wife be right beside on my right and You know the final stretch. She kids saying we won. We won and I was like no. You know we still. It's still a race to go super race to go. And she was like we weren't we weren't and then we. I think we're the only people in the race track that was jumping and screaming because he was forty nine to one You know we have gone through a you know a lot of stuff with him. You know special. Because what he's made he's He's debut he may He's view in fighting. Hafer loans on dirt right so you know He. He came out of the big favourite of the race. You know because of these workers stuffing You know it was a fourteen horse. Feel and he ended up seeks to raise so it was Kinda. You know disappointed but we were happy. I mean as a family have my whole family there. We'll have a great time and that was what it's all about. I was I was trying to do that to have with my family but you know I remember the trainer. One Carlos was very very disappointed about his performance. He was you know what I'm saying. I'm sorry I don't know what happened. That was like don't worry about it. I mean we have a great time. You know we have a lot of people came to us and say that king a year is a terrific guy. He got a racer grass so well we decided to give him a chance on on on turf grass and we put him on a mile rate. You got a king gear. Mouse can gear midway on. The turn is opened up. A six length advantage gear comes into the stretch with a seven length. Lead Kozel Listrik Joe. Second third but king who they gotta catch can gear ball popular. Victory here can gear them out by about eight legs so we were like okay. I think he he liked turfing. You know we put him on another race. These these time was the steak then. He came third. So you know He. He lost the race in the final four lawn. Something like that and You know he he make another another big race but I still have my dream united. See how my dream from like my Kentucky Derby horsing. I told the trainer one time I told him Carl listen. I think he deserved one. More shot on dirt. So let's put him on one more time and but Lisa he's not gonNA raise any those leader races. Let's put him on a raise. That point to the Kentucky and he looked at me and he was agreed. We put him on the temporary. We you know we went out there to try. Try Him on again. And then we came out with spider it every now you talked about your trainer Juan Carlos Ave line. You're rider Sammy. Camacho are not that well known on the national thoroughbred racing scene they like you are Venezuelan. Had you thought about going with a more well-established trainer and rider to prepare for the Kentucky? Derby Nope nope they put him in the Kentucky every day going with him to the Kentucky Derby. That's how it works for me.

The Glamorous Lakers' Unlikely Leader
"So Kevin. In spite of being blown out the other day in Boston the Lakers are still the number one seed in the West and everything is sunshine and rapes around the staple center but a year ago. It felt like there was a storm cloud hanging over the franchise. I had magic Johnson. President Basketball Operations nations stepping down team fired their head coach. Luke Walton and then they chose Frank Vogel as his replacement awesome and there was a perception around here in Los Angeles that it was a pretty uninspired choice right in some ways frank. Vogel is the Ultimate Safety School. So for the Los Angeles Lakers Kevin Arnovitz is an NBA insider for ESPN. They went after Monty Williams former player who has immense amount of respect but at the end of the day he got a much more appealing offer from the Phoenix Suns. Tai Lue was a top choice. Lebron's former coach NBA Championship. Cleveland Cavaliers in two thousand sixteen. And what are the Lakers. Do they offer him a contract that I think it's fair to say was. Maybe not befitting a championship coach. There's sort of a standard now for for what a NBA coach gets in terms of the years in terms of money and this particular contract offer fell far short of that to the point where I think the public certainly the perception within the League was here of the Lakers doing it again. They think they're the Lakers. They have this golden or around them they can just offer championship. Coach is his deals. That don't reflect that pedigree so they don't get money Williams tyler walks not for another job. He just walks and they get Vogel. I used to do a lot of L. A.. Sports Radio and I remember this announcement very vividly. Los Angeles Lakers fans. They were not happy. Happy Kevin in fact they were furious. Vogel I think at the outset was seen as an odd choice for a number of reasons. One one is. The Lakers are the Lakers. And they have traditionally gone after coaches. That are either real brand names or have this royal. LAKER occur bloodline they are part of the Laker family. So here comes Vogel who is coming off. Two year stint in Orlando where he lost twice as many games as he won one could say no fault of his own. It was it was a young mismatch roster of players. But he doesn't have a brand name he looks like an accountant announced he's never played in the NBA before so he doesn't bring with him. The story playing career so for a fan base and a franchise. That's always been very brand obsessed. Why are you getting this off? Brand coach was very much. I think the perception an off Branko. Now I'm imagining frank. Vogel at the Grocery store he's like the generic. I Love Kirkland. I I think that sets up this story very well because you great value. Oh you use the Kirkland of coaches and of course. The Lakers are widely perceived as his ex hyper glamorous NBA franchise in particular with Lebron James. They're going into an off season in which they're going to be trying to get free agents. This is before the trade for Anthony Davis and here comes maybe the least glamorous coach forget fans for a second just people inside the game fifteen choices of who is going to be. The next Lakers head coach. I don't I don't know that Frank Vogel would have been on one ballot. I'm not saying Bogle can't coach Lebron's right that's different. So how did he get start. Frank Vogel got his start by by being a pest he was division three point guard for a genie out of college and he became obsessed with Kentucky basketball when he was at home on winter. Break when you're watching that famous Duke Kentucky lightning later catches He decides I want to be part a big time college basketball. He's going to leave his division three school. He writes letters to the staff at Kentucky including Rick Pitino and they basically send back a form letter. Thank you for your interest. This is in the mid nineties so he decides. I'm just going to drop out of my college enroll at Kentucky. I'm GONNA drive there. Basically without an invitation nation. And I'm just going to hang around the facility. Whatever anything I can do to get inside volunteer? Whatever they need and little by little sure enough he hangs around enough due to the point? Where Jim O'Brien who was assistant to Rick Pitino said Okay Okay? We'll we have the video room. which at the time video rooms have become like the very sexy place to get your start as a coach? Now Erik Spoelstra Mike Putin Holzer Dave Fidel but back then it was still kind of a newish thing and so he just camped out in the video room and essentially became one of the best young video coordinators in all of basketball and to the point when when Pitino went to the Celtics they ultimately brought. Frank Vogel Oh go along with them. And then when O'Brien took over he promoted him again and so little by little. He's sort of the He's the kind of the little engine that could of basketball. So he dollars. O'Brien to Indianapolis. And that's where he gets his first shot as head coach. How does that go right? He gets to the Fr- what we call. The Front of the bench comes a top assistant in an Indiana Under Jim O'Brien O'Brien gets fired and Vogel's the next Guy Up Larry Bird actually ask Joe. Brian looked this. Guy's really loyal to you. Do you think you take the job. and Jim O'Brien profane. Lee said absolutely

"So he switched and saved a bunch, which was awesome donlevatar. Forget this off court stuff now because I really thought that if that's far more serious. And I appreciate that. But on a basketball court on a light a level you have put a spotlight on your sons. If you're just joining us, we are watching, I take back now to live coverage stugatz. Elevate in him the way that you, you cutting checks your son's going to have to cast his macro. They know chicks y'all to one trying to cast lavar does it ever seem to you, like everyone's outraged by a lot of people who. Yeah. This is our show with this to God's own ESPN radio. So this is interesting for a lot of reasons. If you're just joining us, Magic Johnson is on I take. And he's saying the first interesting things he's ever said as a broadcaster because he doesn't usually do that. He doesn't go super serious honest on broadcasting. He's charming Magic Johnson. He doesn't say bad things about people publicly, but now he's in defending Magic Johnson. But this is why I find it interesting because he put on a sharp ask suit, and he flew his legendary but to Bristol, Connecticut to sit down on a show where he would be heard New York, baby. Oh, okay. Forgive me, New York, New York, it is. I keep forgetting that about about magic but made a choice to be on television about saving about Stephen eggs. Made a choice to be on television on our air in a really sharp suit, defending himself against the what happened to the staining of his resume a few weeks ago. He didn't do it at the time he said backstabbing, but he didn't name names like it was, it was shocking enough that he was retiring or leaving to have it be the, the meaningful thing. But he didn't take anybody out by name. He just buried a non basketball person who got that job because he was an agent. He just buried that general manager in a way it'll make any it'll make it hard for anyone to trust rob Pelinka after that he buried them in that sense because rob Pelinka is going to have trust issues going forward. However, on the front end. Magic Johnson admitted to the fact that he had a conversation when genie by saying, hey, I'm not really going to be around years old. But you know what, though the if to me that's a defensive him that works because if he told them look, I'm going to be ambassador. Legend. I'm going to help by putting up a steering public face on this voice on on this team. But I'm not going to be there much somebody's going to have to handle the paperwork for me..

"But also, Billy. Just made a thirty for thirty that I want to get to. And there's Kyle Korver white privilege out there that we still somehow haven't talked about. And I just don't know which of the three to go to comedy duos. Go out and play the world came sound if you will please the world king sound because are we gonna guess are we going to go I like to guess, my favorite thing is I laugh already beforehand when I read the description. Okay. So the description of this audio says will Cain Magic Johnson's actions were embarrassed. Now, we'll typically ends the sound was saying exactly what's in this description. He's like one of the best ever added. So so hold on to say, what would you guys guests because he's going to be called a quitter in here is not magic John. Yes. Or no best. Guess is. Magic Johnson going to be called a quitter here. Yes. Or no why I'd have to think so guys. Yes. All right, Billy what happened. I've heard the sound. So I know the answer. So I can't participate. Okay. You can't fake it. Oh, no. He's not going to be called a quitter. I cannot believe what I heard from Johnson. Everybody wants to be liked. I think a lot of people want Magic Johnson to like them. I think a lot of people in this business. Don't wanna pass a harsh word on magic. Johnson. Don't want to criticize. But what we saw go down in LA was embarrassing. It was week. Okay. So he says exactly what. But we go. Okay. Okay. But so we don't get a quitter. We were all wrong on quitters. They're more. That's the end of the sound. It wasn't bearing that. That's a sound. The sound of the day. And it's brought to you by.

"Our lives. You'll better now back to the show. Magic Johnson says out of nowhere the wildest way. Imagine incredible Skagit if like one of us quit here, and we didn't tell you we like somehow just did it in front of a camera crew or something. And then that's how you found out. What how did actually did it go down? I seen the backlash. I don't think I saw the actual things I've passed out. But what was the exact moment instead of going to the organization and telling Jeanie Buss that he was leaving lily just did an interview induct anybody in PR too, by the way. No just just came out, so vaunted this thing. Yeah. Pretty. Mentioned it. He he mentioned it to LeBron actually the day before just saying like, hey, pointing at that he might be out on this whole basketball operations thing because he wasn't. He wasn't scouting players. He his office hours. He was rarely there. He wasn't really buying into. Actually, he was still getting blamed for a lot of things happening. So magic was probably like man, I'm getting a lot of blame for a lot of shit happening. And I'm not even really a part of this also said part of the reason why he was quitting. Because it was troublesome for him when Russ Westbrook went for twenty twenty and twenty and he wasn't allowed to congratulate him because he was part of another team. Be magic. I imagine a billionaire too, right? So he's also casting at this point that ability to be a relatable figure in the sport that you dominated by the way is one that I feel like he probably takes a lot of pride in like Shaq and Charles, right? They have open mic every and Kenny open mic every night to talk about everything compliment, whoever magic also a personality in the NBA world isn't allowed to talk about anything outside of the Lakers in the Lakers aren't really that topical of team. I bet you Magic Johnson alecky was imprisoned almost by this thing..

"I have tickets. It was sort of like a mic drop it as we have seen. Magic on Twitter. Twitter kind of you know, he's never been reserved in his opinion of the team and coaches and whatnot. And so I think in this role that he had were even when he was talking about current players wanted to come to Magic Johnson for advice like Ben Simmons. Is a perfect example of a guy that he's trying to help out as a former great in this game as a hall of Famer. And I think he felt a m- handcuffed in this position. And for whatever reason this is not the job that he wanted. Listen, a lot of great players do not make it as coaches or GM's or whatnot. And we've seen that magic as a coach. I was first game as a coach that he did not as an executive. No does this tarnish. His Laker legacy own. I don't know. Listen. I mean magic is an all time Lakers. Great. He's not a great GM or president or coach. And that's fine. He was an all time Lakers. Great in terms of what I believe, you know, one of the top five players of all time if I'm gonna put a starting five together, he's my point guard. And so it doesn't affect how I view him. I don't agree in the manner in which the he left. I think you do. Oh, jeannie. Listen a phone call or a meeting before you resign. Big bucket of ice disclose right by us. Now, they Laker fans some ice used to put over their head right now because it's been that type of year arosh Markazi, Arash mother, lay Showtime, Lakers Magies, always going to be my guy. But right now. James worthy. All right. We have the game is officially over your night is being crazy. You just roll your head right now. And it's not even being done when you heard the news where were you standing at? In a back watching magic walk to the podium. Not knowing what he was doing what he was going to say. Yeah. No clue no clue. And we thought he was stepping down my mouth drops. My head put on Bob little bit out with the when he just say, I'm stepping down why he explained why? Because he got so much going on so many Britons opportunities. He could commit fully to the job. I understood that. But it's the last game of the season. And there's so much more. They're to have to build this fantastic back to where they was below when Rowan played here anyone three title plan for the Lakers, and they went five with Kobe and Shaq empowering they got the as here, but the icon magic Naza no baldness BT magic to what year, man. Eighty five when they finally beat the Boston, Celtics, right? Yes. You covered him as a player as a coach any of the executive. Yes. So I mean, I tell everybody there's nobody has a better pulse on magic than you. And you were shocked this came at a like where what how as the Lakers ban fishes plane, right? Thank god. Yeah. But here's the magic left is building seven thirty seven in the last people who talked with inside stable center was the Lakers ban. They took a picture with him. That's crazy that Magic Johnson walked in is the president leaves himself. There's no way that you expected this to be like did not interested enough. He and I spoke briefly on Tuesday morning before he made NAS but on Tuesday night, just saying, hey, how you doing was going on. We the game tonight. What are your feelings about going forward? Good about things. I'm going to meet with the staff about plans. So I'm assuming he came out tonight. He was going to share with us in the media. Some of those plans will he did. Plans outta here. Audio's this has been a crazy season for other people for Lakers. This is what they do. There's always some kind of drama become story. But BT this rank up there super high man, I think back to the Kobe shack years when they argued all the time and a about three years that think back to a magic analogy was positive..

"He said he prayed over the over the decision. He hadn't told genie. He hadn't told his wife oak gonna happen when he gets home, you you can believe that. I'm just. I'm just still in a little bit of a shock because I know I've known him for a long time. He doesn't even he doesn't know how to spell the word quit. The name of the podcast is arrive early. Legally arosh Markazi, you're rive late. And I think you're gonna be here late you found the news of Magic Johnson stepping down basketball operations. Where were you surreal just beginning? Teach my class at USC, I found out what was happening, and I said well students classes over I'm going to come here. See if I can help out in any way. I can't I mean, this is one of those surreal days Beto, as you know, there's not a there's not a quiet game or a quiet afternoon or night with the Lakers. There's always a soap opera, it's the greatest reality show in Hollywood. Yeah. You said greatest reality show. Yeah. And that's what the fem- of this thing has been from everybody involved. They've said the Lakers. There's always something with them. You got done teaching your class, by the way, we see that on the podcast. It felt like you had to be here comments with the times, you could've gone home. You really don't have to do anything here. But this is one of those nights where all I need to go. It's all hands on deck. I mean, it's one of those surreal nights sports in Los Angeles. Where it's not just the president or GM of the team. Right. It's Magic Johnson. He is arguably the greatest Laker. When you're the age, we are. He was the reason maybe we got into this the Showtime Lakers Magic Johnson. So when someone like that steps down in the fashion that he did there's one hundred different ways he could have done it. He could have released a statement got a press conference on Friday. He did it before the last game of the season before he told Jeanie Buss. Now, let me feel you in on this Rushmore Qazi. We were interviewing Bill McDonald as John Ireland walked by and gave us the news that was at five fifty seven fifty eight depending on it. He left staple center at seven thirty seven..

"The PR rep at that time even told you, hey, he's in trouble. It's the other way. Then men's after that Magic Johnson speaking with the media, we just thought hey magic is talking at the end the season. That's usually what happens presidents will talk players will talk. It's like the last day of school. There's a reason we take you behind the scenes in the rivarlry lay podcast because there's a rush there's a vibe this is what the reaction was immediately after he didn't the news at Magic Johnson had stepped down as president of basketball operations, and I'm recording. This now before we talk to our beat writers and the rod casters, Michael Thomson. Lakers radio analyst longtime friend of maj. There's you know him buck and you hear the news at buck step down as you call him. How surprised me about that? Everybody was in shock everybody. This came out of nowhere and came out of left field center field and right field as a wise it always coming out of left field, but it came out of all the outfield position. So this is shocking. When you hear him explain why he came to this decision. And it all makes sense really because he wasn't comfortable in the job because he couldn't be himself. Magid, if you're in this job, and you can't be better Duran how miserable you would be. You can be a self. So, you know, he's a man who says he wants to be involved with people and working with people in the NBA young players, and he can't do that in this position. So he felt like he was being hindered and being handcuffed and hearing his explanation. He wanted to get back to that life. So that makes a lot of sense completely different life that he had the executive from his business life where he is. I'm the boss, you're not we're going to get things on how much of that. We think the NBA life. The hindering the being able to get things done his way on his terms had a play. I don't think that anything to do with it. I think the fact that he was being marginalized as far as what he can do and how he can live life in the basketball community wanted to work with young players and take it and give other players advice, not an tampering way. But just be there for players they need to call him for advice. And he said he was not able to do that anymore, and he missed that part of his life. And that means a lot to to be able to be accessible to people in all areas of life, especially young players. And so because he felt so handicapped by figures I want to get back to being accessible and help and spreading his knowledge around. So hearing him explain reason, why stepping on makes sense to me, you know, him better than anybody in this building you played with him. You've been in for a long time. Magic Johnson as an executive with the Lakers had a losing record unable to turn things around. How do you feel like that's going to eat at him? Well, I thought it would have a winning record this year. If fate would have smiled on the franchise and people could've stayed healthy. I don't think we would have been a sub five hundred team. But I'm sure this this year disappointment is gonna you know, probably bother him. But like, I said the circumstances beyond the Lakers control. I thought that this was going to be the measuring stick just how his job performance is going to play out on how you put the team together this year who would be able to sign illness cap room because he did get LeBron James come here. So that was good for step. We just never got to see the second step. Mt. Thank you. Yeah. Next. Good bugging me way up with A C Green iron men pride of Oregon state. So you thought you were coming into the last Lakers game of the season just to see the team wrap up. Right. And then the new the magic step down. It's never dome of the Lakers. No. Of course, not you know, this is personal sports. You know at the same time, you know as urban and I just talked. This was in the making..

"So apparently, that's just happen. Magic last night in impromptu press conference to say, you know, what? About I'm gonna see guys later. I'm done doing this thing. Oh my God. I thought it would never end. I thought it would ever end because I initially saw on Twitter that Magic Johnson was stepping down. He was holding a press conference. So I turned into MBA TV. And the thing lasted almost our Magic Johnson talking about everything. Oh my God. What an absolute Bockel, what an absolute mess. Those angeles. Lakers have turned out to be. This is incredible. That was one of the most bizarre press conferences, I have ever seen. Magic Johnson was talking about everything about all. We was really hurt by the fact that he couldn't tweet about Russell Westbrook. A couple of weeks ago when he had the twenty twenty twenty game because people are saying that could be tampering like that really affected. Magic johnson. The fact that he didn't even tell Jeanie Buss that he was going to step down. He just decided to hold a press conference by himself without first telling his boss, like, hey, I gotta let you know that I'm stepping down. No instead of doing that Magic Johnson just decided to show up to the radius yesterday and hold a press conference and the PR department's like what the hell is going on. We put together something quickly here. We have put together a press release all this different type of stuff and figure out what's happening because Magic Johnson took it upon himself to just not inform. Anybody around him in terms of the employees in the organization that he was leaving. He was just going to tell everybody so Jeanie Buss about dysfunctional. This is the owner of the Lakers. The owner of the Lakers Jeanie Buss found out that Magic Johnson was stepping down at the same time that all of us did and she actually probably found out after the reporters did because he just went there and started talking to reporters said, hey, guys, come over here. I got something important to tell you maybe we thought it could have been Luke Walton getting fired after the game. Maybe that's what it was going to be. But no it was stepping down. So the owner of the team had no idea when she went to work yesterday.

"Welcome to year wrong. And here's why take three I'm Chris Horwood L joined by Greg Crone, Gregory. How are you? Don't good third time's apparently a charm. Thank God for that. So this week. We're gonna talk about why the Lakers are better off. Without Magic Johnson. Why Virginia North Texas Tech's going to be a top ten team next year? And why Tonio Brown is a bigger diva than Terrel Owens? Don't call me, Terrell. Don't do it. Don't do it. I'm excited about this show. Let's kick off a little Lakers talk Lakers better without magic tell me. Why greg? I mean, let's just be honest. Magic didn't actually care about being the president of the Lakers outside of the title, president of the Lakers. I mean, the the guys I mean, admittedly, self, admittedly. He said yesterday that he wasn't wasn't really dedicating time. He's more worried about being able to send that congratulatory tweet or talk to players on the court and outside of basketball to actually running an MBA franchise. And if you look at the futility of the things that he's done outside of landing LeBron James, which honestly was more or less a done deal from day one. When LeBron's contract was up in Cleveland. I mean, the guy the guy didn't pay attention to basketball. And I think that the Lakers moving on for magic. However, it was done whether it was magic quitting or. Them getting rid of him. I think I think it's ultimately good thing to get somebody who actually cares and wants the job. Why think we can comfortably say it was magic quitting given everything we know about what's taken place. But look I'm going to preface this with I hate myself and move on from that. Magic Johnson's a legend. Oh my God. It's killing me Magic Johnson's legend. And you know, this organization is better off with him in place. A you said that it was a foregone conclusion that LeBron James was gonna go to the Lakers. I don't think that's necessarily the case. I do think this was more of an open competition at least early on than perhaps. Perhaps we think about in retrospect, I think Magic Johnson was one of the deciding factors in that situation. Four LeBron he delivered the Bronx the Lakers. And now it's up to everyone else to figure out what to do with him. If it was it was it really was it really Magic Johnson, and the all of the Lakers or was it the draw of Hollywood and the production being able to further your outside and future away from basketball career is that what really really sealed it for LeBron not necessarily who was crunching the numbers in the Lakers front office. No, I absolutely first of all to say that magic. Johnson was sitting at a computer going over spreadsheets is absurd. He was I had. I don't think he's done any number crunching in this life. But I think that he was the deciding factor. This guy is a legend. This is someone that LeBron James looks up to who we who he respects as a player as a person. And I think that that that's sort of. I don't know link that sort of link into the Hollywood world where magic has played a big part as well certainly helps. I mean, I guess can we talk about the selfishness of the timing of this as well. Well, I wanna talk about how it was one of the greatest impromptu press conference is we're gonna talk about Carol Owens later. This is the best impromptu press conference since Tarallo did sit ups in his driveway. I mean, it's just wild to think like all the focus last night in the NBA should have been on the fact that you know, to sure-fire first ballot hall of famers guys that span the last basically, two generations of the NBA multi all stars all MBA guys champions were playing in their final NBA games. And instead the world of the NBA and the Twitter world was focused on Magic Johnson up and quitting the Los Angeles. Lakers. It's it's an unreal move for a guy that wants to be and sees himself as some sort of embassador of the NBA..
