It helped rice young not to start. The season against georgia were clemson as opposed to miami. And now i think he's going to. Be unstoppable paul. You talk about clemson miami georgia. You're talking about that part of the region but the acc in particular. They took one on the chin. This past weekend with louisville losing miami losing although they played against a team that at alabama you mentioned. But you'd still look at clemson against georgia north carolina. virginia tech. They three of the teams in the top fifteen took an ale or they finished and done with the college football playoff. I think if you're looking for a heartache. Which i know you would never do or i would ever do. You could say that. But but i think the complexities of college. Football does not support that because all it takes a or a couple of upstarts i think any sane college football fan watching clemson. Saturday night would have to agree. They're a high level football team. The problem is they were up against a really nasty defense and they just. They seemed like they digressed a little from a couple of years ago. This year for clemson we'll we'll just really almost unwatchable maybe with the exception of nc state. Florida state did look good and defeat. So there's a few positive things to talk about. But not many and meanwhile alabama georgia play in the big leagues. And so two sodas everyone else. So that's if there are no major upsets for oklahoma ohio state. Ravens indianapolis colts and in a si- in a shocker to some the new england patriots yes mag jones. why into the playoffs. Rob parker great. Let's see parker. I'm willing to say the browns. The titans and raiders. Wow that's right. Why are your nose. Milwaukee jon gruden. The going there is that they have to win issue. This is big for jon gruden. And they've started well and not have been able to finish the job. I'm going to pick the raiders to make the alabama pick so the only difference. You guys have in the play. I think they're gonna be woke awoken in violent fashion. I think this is the year that seattle falls off from not picking them to make the playoffs. I'm going to go with the rams based on their defense. I'm going to put them in the playoffs. I'm gonna go with the box hard to repeat but they're good enough to make the playoffs and what on the one more right one more wild card team hip. I'm going to pick the minnesota vikings. Now that's a good pick. I think they're gonna be. They got a shot. I don't know what last year they were. Awful every game like they were supposed to win. You know they just couldn't do it. The most surprising was made by the new england patriots when they let go of cam newton who was released on tuesday. Newton returned to the patriots for a second year this off season on a one year contract five point one million three point five of it guaranteed. Newton played sunday. Played two series with all the starters. This past sunday played two series. All with the starters. Dan with me lead by mag jones who played deep into the third quarter. All with the backups. But look pretty good. The preseason fourteen. Twenty hundred and sixty two yards touchdown and interception so according to the globe the boston globe newton's one year contract with the patriots had a maximum value of thirteen point. Five million again only three point five of it being guaranteed pay code bill bell. Check the decision to go with jones over. Newton was very competitive situation. He said both played looked pretty. I don't know if it'll be him in cam. Newton some crazy offense together game plan specific week to week. There's a lot of options here but in my view i am probably the most excited to see what will happen with this rookie. Just because of all of the implications that come with being the first quarterback drafted in the first round by ballot. Check a year after brady leaves a love to that. I think it was. So even if he's not elite, even if he's not a top five guy, which is, of course not, and probably probably probably not even a top 10 guy he feels right for Cleveland. Correct. All right, So now let's get to Julian Edelman's comments on Mack Jones in the New England Patriots. And, to an extent, he's right, obviously you you're replacing or trying to replace the legend. 19 years six championships got the nine Super Bowls. I mean, he was the man Tom Brady was in New England and Bill Belichick as they were talking about if you caught that part of it, our audience they were talking about Bill Belichick never drafting quarterbacks in the first round, so Mack Jones as a first round quarterback. Has some pressure on him. And so I step back, and I'm like, All right is Matt Joe Does it fit him right? First of all, is it the perfect situation situation really like Offense of line, possibly skill position, guys. Probably not probably not a competition with Cam two different types of schemes that they're going to. Probably not good division good, like all of those things, all of the on field things I look at them like a guy that doesn't really suit Mag Jones real well, if he ends up playing right away, so let's go to the second criteria. The baker Mayfield criteria Does Mack Jones fit Boston? He's either kind of quarterback. That's gonna be okay. When the opposing team comes in. I heard this analogy today. Beatty was gonna call the buddy of mine from Boston, he said this when I went to New York following the Red Sox and people in the in the Yankees fans were boo and they were like Boo Red Sox Boo. Yeah, if that's all they were, But when when the Yankees would come the Boston right, the Yankees now go to Boston. They would say Derek Jeter has a STD. Whatever they would be more specific, but you know what I mean. Like it was. It was like brutal It was it was specific. It was it was gritty and grimy and main and all those other things, and so I say to myself. This Mac Jones fit that Is he that type of quarterback? And is this personality gonna mesh with this? Like this? This this massive Fan base that is intense and mean and ugly. Is it fit? And I want to say no, I so I want to agree with Julian Edelman. But then I look at what Mack Jones did in Alabama, where he was a baller, by the way, had one of the great college football seasons in the history of college football for quarterback and won a national championship. For a gritty, tough. Um, I don't know. The elite team down in Alabama were quite honestly Did it feel like he belonged? No, it didn't nonsense till he played not until he played and so and so I have to draw on his history as as that and say. Julian Edelman might have a point, but I put my money on Mack Jones being the guy that can fit into Boston despite not having the ideal situation around him. Okay, There's a lot there. Here's what I take away from that. You know, the whole the whole Yankee Red Sox thing. It did Flip it. One point the vet, um and it was far more venomous, far nastier before yeah, from Boston Tea Yankees. What? Until the until the Red Sox won the World Series like that was that was anger. That was despair. Decade. That was jealousy. That was everything and it got ugly, right? First of all, I think that I look at Mack Jones and, you know, forget about well, actually, you can encompass every quarterback to wrap that around one. Is Trevor Law and again, That looks mean nothing to me. But Trevor Laurence, I'm talking about feel. No, I got you just Trevor Laurence Feel like a Boston quarterback. To me. The answer is no. The long hair and he's like a southern Quarter or West Coast or absolute or West Coast kid. Does does my God Zach Wilson feel that way with the headband? It's why I why I was so high on him going into this draft, then it was interesting, too, because he was asked about his fall like where he fell down, too, because everybody thought he was going in three. The money flipped big time the day before the draft that hugely the other way forge trade land. So you kind of knew it was all smoke and mirrors up, but to me Keith and he said this he fell to the right place in my mind, and I think Julian Edelman has a point about is going to be tough on him. But if all the quarterbacks and you just ran through them Beaty Mag Jones is probably the best suited to sit going to Boston and try to succeed and try to replace a legend and Tom Brady. I mean, listen, his work ethic. His approach to me will immediately ingratiate himself to his teammates to his coaching staff. By extension the city and is adamant and listen. It's pretty pointing cut because everyone's been there a long time on underdog in some ways, like Mack Jones, you know he's not that Trevor Laurence. You should be able to envision this player not only being maybe the best player this position in the league in a relative short time but this guy should be able to be projected to be like an all timer right and all the time great and so. If i use that born at used as standard to do these quarterbacks. I would have a hard time saying that. I can envision mag jones being all time great and so. I'm going to stay to the standard which is same standard. We will use in the draft room. Because i think we pull it out this grading sheets from the baltimore ravens in the carolina panthers in seattle seahawks respectively. Those grades when you talk about issuing out that eight. Oh grade to reggie bush. John hall of fame potential perennial all pro hall of fame type. One of the best. We've ever seen at the thing would. That's the standard for top five great. If this person doesn't exhibit those qualities from a trade standpoint or production or performance standpoint hard to do it so my thing is staying true to degrade insistent that i know man. Well i've seen it with josh allen. We just saw. I've seen him make gains. So i think trade trailers is going to do everything mack jones can do and then plus more. There's no way like mac jones. I like tree chances at getting more accurate than mac. Jones's chances of being able to get bigger and move around like trae lance those. That's not happening. So that's why i'm just left with like i can. I've got a guy who can do everything the other guy can do plus xyz. That's why that's why advocating for trae lance there and i would advocate persistent fields in the same breath so take justin feels off the table. And we're just keep the conversation on trae last. We just saw this play out last year with to talk about lower. Great success at alabama goes to miami deals with conflict. Can't really replicate that success at at the myself. When i wanna say this if i were to ask you about these quarterbacks would you take them in the first row or take them in the top three. Would you take jimmy. Garoppolo matt hasselbeck in the top recur customs knowing how their career played. Would you take those guys in the top three. Probably not and i think that's where mag jones allies. He's my four three two quarterback But i don't have a first round agreed on him. He's someone that. If he is someone that i think would be an ideal fit in a place like washington or chicago some place. That has a lot of good players already established on both sides of the ball so he can kind of beat the bus driver but you draft someone to top five. You want someone that can be a difference maker now. Think that's his game. Bus driver is perfect. And that's what he was at alabama he just did it really really. Well dave isn't that san francisco. I know it's a top three. Pick out but i mean so. Listen i think. That's what i i can't say for. Sure with the forty niners want remember shanahan fawning over kirk cousins once upon a time and so he might look it mack and say. He's a lot like her cousins. I don't think he's got quite the same arm. Strength as kirk cousins. But i think he's smart. I think he can make your decisions with the football. He seems to be unfazed by the blitz. And he he just seems to be the type of quarterback that can kinda be be a good west coast offense quarterback. I don't think he's necessarily the type of guy a who can like. Elevate the whole team and lead them to the super bowl. I know he just won the national championship. But i i just feel like there's something different. We're sometimes quarterbacks make their players around them better. i think that's what happens in green bay with aaron rodgers because if you add kirk cousins throwing the davante adams i don't about to adams would be as good but i also see mack. Jones is someone who's not going to be great for fantasy especially if he goes to san francisco because that's a team that likes to run the football out and be if he's not gonna generate anything on the ground he's not gonna give you rushing yards that already puts a cap on his fantasy production and if he's not in a situation where he throwing for over three hundred yards and three touchdowns every week.
