Mike Gallagher Podcast
A highlight from The Mike and Mark Davis Daily Chat - 09/11/23
"There stars are in the southern sky and if ever you decide... If my research is correct, this was what the Madison Square Garden crowd heard to begin the show that Mike was in attendance for when he was in New York. I'm just watching guys play tennis, but this is what Mike did. I bet it was awesome. Mike and I were in New York City at the same time doing very different things. Wait a minute. Don't say Mike and I were in New York City. You created quite the drama by your refusal to spend even a second of time with me when you and your beautiful bride were celebrating your anniversary. Well, excuse me for not peeling away for schmooze time on an anniversary event. It took Peg Hudson to set Joe and me straight. Let me give you the backstory. Yes, there's always backstory. Your research is spot on. That was what they opened with. They all lined up across the front of the stage, including the great Vince Gill. Oh my God. That show was unbelievable. I mean, when's the last time you've gone to a concert and for two hours you hear the band just do hit after hit after hit after hit? Who can do that? It's not a long list. The Eagles can do it. And they did it. Opened up by Steely Dan. And in fairness, there's an example, three quarters of the songs, I don't remember it. I never heard of, but there's a couple of hits there for some of the great Steely Dan. And then of course, the Eagles with what was an incredible night at Madison Square Garden. But anyway, you're here, you're in town. I'm in town with Joey and Peg. We're seeing the Eagles and we saw a couple Broadway shows and I figured when Mark and Lisa go do stuff, it's Mark and Lisa time. And I should have known that. So I delicately said, hey, you want to get together for lunch or dinner while you're here? I mean, we don't see each other in person very much. And of course, as predictable as the sun rising in the east and setting in the west, oh, we're slammed. Thank you. We're very busy. We're very busy. We're slammed. We're a little maxed out here. We're maxed out. And so Joey and I got all up in arms about it Saturday night. My man, my man, buddy card is being revoked. We went to dinner at a place called Centurion, New York, and I had a table set for you and Lisa. I mean, we were in a private room on the 55th floor of one Wondervelt. I'm not kidding you. It was unbelievable. It's this brand new dining experience. And we had a room with a table of six with three of us. And I kept saying, gosh, what, how perfect that would have been for Mark and Lisa to have joined us. And Joey and I started bellyaching about your rudeness. And then Peg says, it took a woman to point out, are you guys high? Right. Well, she says, do you think they want to spend their anniversary weekend with you talking shop? And I said, well, first of all, we're more than just shop. It's not just work. We're friends. Exactly. There's all kinds of commonalities and tastes and the culture in our lives. And we're intertwined, of course, it would have been lovely. But it wasn't because you didn't give us the time of day. I know my priorities. Well, you're right. Okay. I mean, good for you. And I hope you had a lovely weekend. So what exactly should I have given up? Should I have, well, here's a weird story because we thought that one night was going to be at the Arthur Ashe Stadium for tennis purposes. And the other one was going to be at Elio's in the Upper East Side, the restaurant where I proposed to her in March of 2002. So which of those should I have cashed in, you know, go hang out with y 'all as much as wonderful as that would have been. I mean, is the proposal restaurant all that significant? Come on. Yes, it is. But here's what's weird. Here's the weird thing that happened on tennis day. Do you know how weird tennis is trying to attend it? If you want to go to the Cowboys and the Eagles on December 10th, you can get a ticket right now for the Cowboys and the Eagles on December 10th. But if you want to go see Novak Djokovic, which is what my bride wanted to do, because from 10, 15 years ago, we're watching Nadal and Federer, and she just loves these guys. And we have loved watching tennis together on the TV box. And I said, for this anniversary, I'm taking you to the U .S. Open. It's like, great, we'll go see Djokovic or other great players, Daniel Medvedev, the young Carlos Alcaraz, who may be the next Nadal. But if you want to see Djokovic, you can't. He's not guaranteed to play on a particular day at a particular time. You can nail down the day. We did not know until hours ahead of time that Djokovic and Ben Shelton, the American, would be the early match. And silly me, I thought, there's no way. He's got to be the late match. So I bought tickets to the late match at no small expense. But then all of a sudden it's like, ding, ding, ding. Nope. That is Medvedev. He'll be playing Alcaraz at night and beat him, of course, because it was Djokovic and Medvedev. And Djokovic won in the final that we watched last night. It was great. So here's what I had to do. I've never done this before. I'm a big fan of the secondary market. So I had these tickets on Ticketmaster. In the old days. You tell me you sold tickets because I was desperately trying to get tickets to go. I'm going to kill you. What? No. I wanted to go so bad. To the open? I wanted to go to the open so badly I could taste it. And I went on the secondary market. You know, God's been good to me and I have a pretty good living. I ain't spending $14 ,000 a ticket. Okay. You want to talk real dollars? I'm going to do this. I am going to do this for my bride. She doesn't do mink coats or huge jewelry. You know, she's just one of the million reasons I love her. We were in unbelievable seats for the night, for the night one in the hundred level, the loge level. And they were $1 apiece. ,700 $1 ,700 apiece. So $3 ,400 to put my wife and me in these magnificent seats. Then we learned, guess what? Djokovic ain't playing at night. He's playing in the daytime. So now I got to go get seats to that. But here's the thing, since the world expected Djokovic to be at night, that's why those seats were $1 ,700. The moment it was announced, I flip immediately to the day session, got the exact same seats on the other side of Arthur Ashe Stadium for $600 apiece. Boom. Then I sold, with my phone still in my hand, sold the ones that I had bought. Obviously, their price went down a little bit. So I didn't make it all back. But I essentially paid for the other ones with the sale of the first ones. It is a crazy modern world, man. It is a crazy modern world. And heaven forbid you would have said to your talk show buddy, you want a couple tickets to the open because I would have bought them from you direct. I wouldn't even know. Funny, I don't know how to transfer them to another actual human being. Well, there's a way. There's got to be a way. All right. I think there's enough about that. Here's my proclamation. If I come to Dallas for a weekend, I'll make time to see you and Lisa, okay? And I will find a restaurant with a private room and a seat for anybody you want to bring. All right. We'll replicate it, Texas. Let me share with you the sights and sounds of what I experienced this morning walking into work here at 111 Broadway in lower Manhattan. All the police activity as the commemoration, the bell is ringing, observing the moment the flight hit the North Tower. Twenty -two years, Mark. The moment you know well. Boy. You were in the Empire State. Sure was. And we're going to relive that today on the show as we always do. We're also going to play that beautiful faith -filled tribute called Silent Night that our friends at KRLA in Los Angeles made many years ago where God, you just don't believe it, but he has a plan and he is always, always with us, even in our darkest hours. So, you know, Axios had an interesting piece this morning about how young men and women enlisting today and joining the military. They don't have that sense of understanding or recognition of 9 -11. So many people became members of the military because of 9 -11. It was such a movement in this country and it was beautiful and it continues to be. And they're in their mid -forties now. Correct. You know, ish. And you think about, I mean, there are people of legal adulthood, 21 years old now, who were not alive for 9 -11. Absolutely. For them, it's not like it's Pearl Harbor or anything, but it's just something that happened before I was born. I got to wrap my head around that. It's interesting that I heard, that's a second time today, though, I've heard somebody say, well, it's not like Pearl Harbor. I really feel it is. Just to me, it's, maybe it's because of our age and, you know, we run around. Here's the crazy thing. You and I were both born less than 20 years afterward. Correct. After Pearl Harbor. So it was just something that had recently happened. That's right. Had a certain stigma and, you know. So I think about the people who joined the military on behalf of those who died on 9 -11 and fighting for our freedoms, fighting against tyranny. And Mark, I am stunned at the rapid way tyranny has come to our own governance. I read an article the other day in the New York Times. It's an opinion piece, to be fair. Trump indict Trump's indictments, the key players in the 2020 election effort. And Mark, they did one of these and I read it online, one of these comprehensive articles about how everybody who questioned in any way, shape or form the outcome of the 2020 election is a co -conspirator in the election denialism that is traitorous, that is traitorous, that's treason. Now, attack on democracy. Right now, never mind all the Democrats, including Hillary on down, who lined up in question the outcome of 2016. I guess that doesn't count. I'm sure the New York Times didn't do, you know, an extensive piece on this, but they've got everybody ensnared in this, Mark. Ted Cruz, Josh Hawley. We saw Lindsey Graham almost got indicted in Fulton County. And all they were doing was saying, what happened here? And exactly daring to inquire. And that has become a tactic of the left. And I think COVID, tell me if you agree with me, COVID broke the door open on this. If you dared question the vaccine or if you dared question the lockdowns, you were shut down. You lost your social media status. Some people lost their jobs. Look at the, look at all the airline pilots we lost because they wouldn't get vaccinated. And that kind of opened the door. And now it comes to the, to election integrity and the New York Times and people who think like them want to weaponize our free speech right to question anything. And criminalize it. And so your metaphor is apt. It absolutely is. And I hope it goes a similar way that the COVID extremism did. And that is that the pendulum swings. And now we have relative rationality, even though I did see in New York City, people walking around by themselves in Washington Square Park, wearing a mask outside. But not many, right? Not very many at all. Listen, I almost wanted a mask to keep away from the weed smell. I asked a New York City cop, what's with the weed? And he told me, he said, look, it's legal. You can't have enough where you're trying to sell it. You can't give it to kids, blah, blah, blah. But it's pretty, and I said, has it been a problem? He said, not really. He said, I don't like it either, but it's people doing, so, but not to divert. So your metaphor is apt. I hope that the pendulum swings, as it did with COVID, and I hope it does it maybe even quicker because the, because the Fauci's and the various other people who hit us with this have been proven so terribly, terribly wrong and corrupt so relatively quickly. I hope that can happen on weaponization of election. Well, Mark, there's reason to be optimistic. The Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals upheld a lower court's ruling, huge win for free speech where this appeals court upheld the prohibiting government officials from communicating with social media companies. There was a preliminary junction. The defendants include Joe Biden, the U .S. Surgeon General, the Health and Human Services Secretary, and the courts are agreeing that it is absolutely unlawful for government officials to try to censor speech on social media. Of course it is. Well, it took a long time. Sure. Well, listen, justice delayed is justice denied. But that's the pendulum swinging. And I hope you, speaking of New York, I hope you saw the New York -based shrews over on The View Friday, Anna Navarro and the rest of them now complaining about the illegals in New York City saying they need to be resettled elsewhere. Anna Navarro and the rest of them on The View want to kick illegals out of New York. How unwelcoming. Oh, how well, how unchristian -like of them. But listen, I heard somebody say this somewhere else and it's true. People like Greg Abbott and others have called Eric Adams bluff. Yep. We've called their bluff. We've said, all right, you want to be a sanctuary city? Here's what it looks like. This is it. Welcome to Texas. Every day, the amount. Welcome to El Paso. And, you know, so golly, I hope the pendulum is swing. Great to have you back. It is wonderful to be back. Great to kick off a big, big week. I'll be in Philly tonight for a big event with Dennis Prager and Pastor Robert Jeffers. Faith and Freedom Coalition event. And then back here on in New York Tuesday and then back to Florida. So, OK, this is crazy. Mr. Acela corridor. You're in Philadelphia for an event tonight. I'm on the 115 Acela. I love that train. In the morning? 115 this afternoon. To get there. But where are you doing the show tomorrow morning? From Philly, from AM 990. And then taking the Acela back. And I have to admit, I'm not a big train travel fan. Yep. I like that Acela. Yep. Pretty cool. And, you know, I think I've got to be in first class just so I can, as an observer, experience what that first class experience must be like. If you're going to do it, do it. You might as well go up front, you know, and or actually in the back. Sometimes the first class on the Acela is on the way in the back. But I still like walking over to the cafe car and getting a hot dog. Kicking it old school. Absolutely. Yeah. Love it. Love it. Big week. All right. Happy Monday, my friend. Happy Monday. The Hair Radio Show with Kerry Hines
The Hair Radio Morning Show Welcomes DJ Prince Hakim!
"Now I have a very special guest with us today. He's from the world of music. We'll say he's royalty. The DJ Prince Hakeem. Good morning to you. Welcome to the show. Hey, good morning. Thank you. Welcome. Thanks for having me. Yes. Yes, it's my pleasure. I want to kind of jump right on in. Let's just tell all the fans of the Hair Radio Morning Show. Now you are really music royalty. Tell us why. Okay. Appreciate that. Yeah, I guess because my dad and uncle are Robin and Ronald Bell of the band Cool and the Gang and they co -founded the band and they're legendary and I'm a part of that lineage. So, you know, I guess that makes me royalty, right? It makes you music royalty. And I just love how you just casually just drop that on in. Oh, yes, that's my dad, my uncle. I think awesome. First of all, we have to Cool say and the Gang has been a huge part of our history in this community and music and, you know, just doing they really set the bar very high. They're one of the most popular crossover acts of all time. If you want to even call them crossover acts, I mean crossover acts. They were just out there doing many big things for years and just even to say their name, their music plays in my head, literally, I kid you not. So it's just awesome. And then to know that you have that true lineage being the son of Robert Bell, right? Robert Cool Bell. So, you know, and we're going to get to all of your amazing music and what you're doing these days, but let me ask you because the fans want to know how was growing up with that, that famous in the famous family like that? Oh, it's just, oh, it's, you know, it's normal to me. That's right. You don't know anything anything, anything else. I don't know anything else. That's what that's like any other parent. That's what God intended. That's my destiny. You know, it's so it's just normal to me. But I understand what you mean. And I get that question a lot. So obviously, if you come from a successful family in any job or business or what your parents may be successful in, you're going to have the door will be open for you to go to the Grammy Awards or backstage concerts, you know, celebrities or your favorite artists and stuff, you know, so if your parents adopt or, you know, you might go to all the cool doctors events or lawyer events and you get perks as a kid, you know, and and that that's, you know, as you get older, you realize that as I say, wow, that's pretty cool. You know, I met Michael Jackson. I was like 15. Really? What was that like? What was that? It was bananas. And I look back now, but then it was just like, oh, wow. You know, and now I'm like, what? Michael Jackson was in his suite with Quincy Jones. So we win it. My dad would just hang out after he finished tearing down Madison Square Garden. Wow. You know, bananas, bananas. Well, I saw some pictures of you, D .J. Prince, our team. I saw some pictures of you with President Clinton. I saw some some photos out there with you and all of these amazing celebrities. So, yes, I take it there were some good there were some good perks, but you're doing some amazing things in your own right. So I kind of want to talk about that. Let's move on over to that now. OK, let's start with your music. What? First of all, what you know, what? OK, I can figure out kind of like what might have led you into music, but let's have you tell it. How did you get into music through, you know, through what you're doing? How did you we know why you were introduced, but let's let you tell it. Well. So. I think the first thing I kind of remember was being. Put into my mom's fashion show or talent show, I could say. Breakdancing in her talent show. I see some pictures now when I was like eight or five years old and I'm playing the drums of singing with my brother and my parents and we're all having a jam session and. And I don't remember that I didn't see these pictures, so that's early as a kid, since your parents are entertainers and ones into fashion. You're just going to. You know, they're going to put the children in it, too. Yes. You know, well, you're just going to adapt to it, absorb it up so much, and you're going to become a sponge or you're going to run away from it. I became a sponge.

'This is what it's all about' — Shaka Smart speaks on Marquette defeating UConn to advance to the Big East Championship
"It will be a match above marquette and Xavier and the biggies tournament final at Madison Square Garden. The 6th ranked golden eagles were pushed by David Joplin and Tyler Cole who had 17 points apiece as they edge 11th ranked UConn 70 to 68. Marquette head coach Shaka smart said his team definitely played with the chip on his shoulder. A lot of people were just kind of giving you kind of game coming in. "I hope they have a really cool name. You need a cool name to be a razor. Kevin. Kevin, the rats are. What else? What else is going on in the city? Well, I don't know. I think it's coming out of COVID. Still. Hospitality is still struggling a little bit. We were bracing for January and February are supposed to be historically slow, just a really hard grind for all bars and restaurants and hotels to get through. We had a good pop. So we had the Bloomberg article, the eater article, we opened at the right time. We were a bit of a service hospitality industry bar after hours. And we have had a lot of these events that have really clicked for us during what was supposed to be a really rough stretch. So we were very, very fortunate. But I think it can't be understated how difficult it is for a lot of other businesses and hospitality throughout the city still. Tourism definitely has not come back yet. The holiday season wasn't what it used to be in the pre times. Some of it was self inflicted, like New York got hit very hard, very early. But I think that we sort of held on to some of the COVID policies a little bit longer than needed. I just went to come out here for my daughter's birthday a year ago. She was going to turn 12. So it's just before her birthday we booked to come out. I was taken to see Billie Eilish's Billie Eilish at Madison Square Garden and her best friend. But the flights, the accommodation, the tickets which weren't fucking Jeep. Yeah. Anyway, turns out that Madison Square Garden would not let you in unless you were vaccinated. Yeah. And it was any age. Yeah. I didn't want my daughter. I'm vaccinated. I didn't want my daughter to get vaccinated. Even if I wanted to, you couldn't get vaccinated in the UK if you were under 12. Yeah. So it got to about a week, two weeks before and it's like, we can't fucking go. Yeah. We can get to New York, but we get them. We're not allowed in the venue. Yeah. So what the fuck are you doing? So you've just cost. That's one example of a group of 5 people who come in who could not come. Yeah. It was panic. It hit New York pretty hard. We had just like shipping containers as makeshift mortuaries for a period of time. They brought in a hospital. So it was panic. And that was in the really early days where we didn't know if kids were getting infected. And we didn't know what was coming out of the countries. Before hash functions when I ran a fund a small fund myself and two other partners called HODL capital and we had planned one of them is Eric Vasco, who does a very dear friend. Underrated Bitcoin, I wish we heard more from him. He's great. He's cranking away on the big one. Yeah, a major, major progress. And do what I can to help the little Bitcoin project as well. I think alternative implementations and diversity of core development teams is really important. And it's really Eric. It's lit Bitcoin and Bitcoin knots. And I think le Bitcoin is making real progress. Thanks. To Eric and his team. But anyway, we had a conference scheduled in it was really Eric's conference that I was helping with. The Vietnam one. Yeah, the crypto econ one.

Senators beat Rangers 5-3 to spoil Patrick Kane's debut
"The debut of a new ranger was spoiled by a pair of old ones as the senators earned a 5 three win at Madison Square Garden. Derek Broussard scored twice to back fellow X ranger camp Talbot, who stopped 29 shots. Talbot denied Patrick Kane with a pad save with 5 minutes left in the third. Cain was playing for the first time since the rangers acquired him from the Blackhawks this week. It would be nice to kind of settle in. Get a couple practices and kind of understand the way they want to play. The blue shirts led three to two until Broussard scored on an assist from Claude Giroux, who provided the tie breaking goal less than two minutes later. I'm Dave fairy.

"They guess after that February 93 audition, I guess they just called in August. Yeah. It launched launch of the douche. Yeah, and then you were on the deuce and then you run with Berman on the Sunday on the NFL Sunday show, right? Yeah, and then I had a precipitous fall, brace. What did you do? I peaked early. I mean, I was there two years there. I wasn't ready necessarily for that show. I went on that show. And then I kind of just, you know, then a couple years after that, I find myself on the news. The new followed by news ESPN news. I'm always on the stations that do news. West Coast followed by new. The West Coast feed two no less. You said to me one day you said I used to be on with Berman NFL Sunday and now I'm doing news. Two a.m.. What's happened in my career? By the way, your career has been fine. You know, you've had a great and by the way, here's the other thing. People at ESPN loved you. Now let me tell you the Keith olbermann story. Okay. I'm down. That'll happen. That'll happen. I'm down in spring training. And watching a game or something and Keith oberman realized that I knew you and worked with you and kept following me around for literally two hours asking me more and more pedo stories. He said, and I went outside to smoke a butt was back when I smoked butts. I went outside, Keith olbermann follows me outside. He goes, I need more Pito stories. I need more pitot stories. Are you writing a book with the Dan Patrick? So I tell him the story. And if you don't mind, I'll tell everybody this story Bill, 'cause you're on the way to the bathroom when it happened. It was very funny. I'm in the cafeteria. I'll never forget this. I remember like it was yesterday, 30 years ago. Many cafeteria at neck and I'm grabbing a snapple. And I'm watching the little TV monitor in there and it said this guy in Connecticut got out of they let him out on a release program to visit his family for the weekend and he killed his wife and kids. And then waited for them to pick them back up and take them back to jail. So Peter goes by. He's on his way he's got like 15 magazines under his arms. He's heading to the men's room because he used to spend some serious time in there. And I said, Peter, look at this. This guy gets out of jail. On a work release goes home kills his wife and kids, and then waits for them to come pick him up, and you said, well, that'll happen. Which was the most the most ridiculous thing. Peter was in a hurry to get to the men's room. He walks away. I think to myself, that won't happen. It doesn't happen. And so I told oberman that story and it ended up in a chapter in his book called battle happen and that the whole thing, the whole pedo stories, and I said, he did give me credit for the story at least, you know, but I don't know whatever's happened over it, you know? Okay, he's lost his mind, I think, but in any event. I showed a lack of necessary remorse. Everybody at that place had their own pedo stories, and you were kind of a legendary. Now, how did you get involved with MSG, please? In O 9, the Dan Ronan used to run MSG and was a big hockey guy. He remembered me from the hockey I did on ESPN2. And they had an opening and then I got hired, the guy who got me in here was a guy that represents Kenny Albert, so he kind of had an inkling that we're looking for somebody. And so I've done a lot of rangers and I'm now doing the next predominantly. So it's been great for me because I'm a native New Yorker. I move west when I was 7, but yeah, you were born in Palo Alto. No, no, I was born in Manhattan, all my family's pretty much was back here when I was a little boy. And you know, the first team I ever watched is a little kid was a nickname to one championship. So being back here being around the team and being the studio host for the games has been a real thrill for me. Rangers to, but it's mainly mainly the Knicks host now. Well, yes, and you got that one 50 thing going, which everybody loves. Everybody loves that. Bill Pito on Twitter is at Bill peto? Yes, PID is a David tears and Tom oh, please. Now I'm gonna give you a quiz before we threw this podcast about the rangers. I'm gonna see how you do, because we quiz people in the come on the show here. But first, let me just reiterate a couple of things you might not remember. You used to be the producer and the co host of the sports world show. And we'd have a dearth of guests. We have a hard time getting good guess. Well, that's why apart me for interrupting. When you said you're going to give me a little gift card for this appearance, I thought to myself back in the day, we always promised a gift card for those that came on our show, but they never happened to make it into the mail. Now Kevin roach took them. Jerry Callahan still waiting for his gifts and from 1993. It's terrible. No, I forgot, oh yeah, I was going to tell you about this. You booked a guest and became one of the most famous stories of bad guest ism. His name was Cleveland wade. Do you remember him? I don't. He was a caddy on the senior tour. African American gentleman, nice man, very nice smile, happy guy, but we thought for some reason he was going to have some amazing in depth stories of the senior tour and Bill. Peter books him on the show. He comes on and the guy had no stories. He didn't have a single story that was one word answer. Yeah. And I'd say he was so it must have been fun doing it. He'd say. Yeah, yeah, it was okay. So he got no stories. After one block, broom dum. Give him a gift certificate. That was a tragic tragic. We used to have so we had some we had some real beauties. We really did. And Kevin, Kevin Roche was the assistant news director who he had no chin, but he got up in his face one time. It was beautiful over some kind. And Peter was like a junkyard dog. You get him, you will finally get him over the line where he's pissed off and he'll get right in your face. You remember that? I don't remember going after him. Yeah, a little bit. You didn't hurt him. What's the worst you two ever got into it? We didn't really get into any big fights. You know, that's the thing about Pito. He's really great to work with. Always funny. But off the air, you know, you know you and I we order pizza, right? It comes steaming hot to the studio. And instead of letting it cool down, Peter would jump right in. And I'd say my damn burned my tongue every time. Yeah, you burned the roof of your mouth and your tongue and I'd say peto, why don't you wait until it cools down and you'd say no. That way you don't get to grease..

"You had any idea what was coming. But you always got through it. And you used to have to stop once in a while and I'd make a mistake and you'd say, if you would just peruse the copy please. Look at the script once. I was telling these guys here off the air that you off the air were as caustic as anybody. If we had a really bad show, let's say Jimmy young came in and ruined it some night and did a something that made us sick. Afterwards, I'd walk out and you'd say, you'd look at me, you'd say, assessment. And I shake my head, you know, and you'd say tragic. You'd walk away. I mean, we were so awful. And Mike Mike, what's his name? Call this triple-A, which is kind of what we were. We were triple-A at that time. I know, but it was fun. You know, we didn't take any of its too seriously. You know what I mean? No, well, we couldn't. You know, we had to make fun of ourselves right from the get go, because we were going to have technical as you call them snafus. And we had the callers, right? Yeah. Yeah, the callers were great. You know, and you didn't know what they were gonna say. You know, I was like, after you left, I don't know, you know Howard green, right? He replaced you? Yeah, I remember him, yep. Well, Howard green didn't really get it that we were going to get that kind of stuff. So one guy called up and said, you know, this is all live. You know, we're looking right at the camera and the guy calls up. Wait, there's no delay. No, delay. No delay whatsoever. So the guy calls up and he goes, hey Howard, Howard goes, yeah, he says, you have a small dick. Oh my God. So now they show me and I'm like, I'm trying to hold back my laughter. So I said to the car, I said, your mother didn't mind. And you can imagine Charlie Kravitz and Phil balboni at home going. This is my news network. You know, we're all buttoned down. Respectable. The irony for your colleagues and the people listening to this. I don't know that they are aware of the high brow nature of that network in the NPR esque philosophy of like the 12 minute documentary on some kind of you know what I mean. It was just so we were like, we were definitely the toy department in that place. And they were trying to fill 24 hours in news at a news network with limited staff and limited experience staff. But it was so high brow. It was the issues of the day and all that other stuff. Yeah, that was virus Adler please. Yeah. I was Adler fleets. She and Phil Boney were so highbrow. Never mind mono brow that you had. Their eyebrows were up in the airline. And Charlie Kravitz was, you know, he hired hired me hired us, you know. He was great. Let's just hard for that, but he had no sports knowledge. None. What other guy in a history of Boston civilization have you ever met that didn't give a hoot about the Red Sox patriots assault? Not even a little bit. You know, I had one. I have one incident with Charlie where I was on the air and I was talking about Randy Johnson, the big unit, whatever. And I call the big unit a few times and Charlie corners me at any CN studios. He says, he goes, Mike, you can't say that in the year. I said, what? He said, big unit. You can't say that. I said, that's his nickname. He goes, come on. Now, come on. I said, no, that's really, and I called an intern over. I go, hey, kid, come here. Come over here. Tell him what Randy Johnson's nickname is. And he looks at Charlie goes big unit. And Charlie goes, oh my God, you know, he had no idea about Randy Johnson's nickname. We had that constantly. Now, the thing about Erik evangelista, though, he was very brilliant in getting us to maximize the entertainment value of the show because you and I go on forever and ever. We did fake shows in front of the green screen from the moon. We're doing what we're doing Friday night show from Vince Coleman's house after a firecracker. How about the helmet gray? Meltdown. Right. We said we had pedo do an imitation. Is this when he ripped the phone out and he shoving stuff across the conference? Tell the story. I've never heard this story. I want you to. It's on YouTube. Yes. We'll get that. And we'll put it up there because it was funny. We said, Peter reenact the helmet Cray tantrum. And when he got pissed in the locker room in the office and through the phone at the reporter, hit him in the face and all that stuff. So Peter starts starts throwing shit chairs and everything around this conference. And he's like, I'm singing his bullshit. He's yelling at me, you know. It was hysterical. But Eric was good at the behind the scenes pranks, you know, Jimmy was, you know, Jimmy. I'd say, what happened last night show, you know, and you'd say Jimmy, please. You give me one word. One word answer. Well, he got back at Jimmy in the best possible way. And I hope Jimmy doesn't listen to this, because maybe I sort of knows about it. Eric evangelista went to the store, sudbury farms, Bill? Yes. And he pulls up he buys some chicken parts, legs, thighs, and he puts them in the back of the file drawer of Jimmy young's desk, all the way in the back. Raw chicken parts and leaves them there about two weeks later. Everything he started to stink in the bullpen area. Right would you be sitting stinking awful rotting chicken smell? And finally, Jimmy said, I gotta find out what so he opens up his drawers. He pulls all of his files out in the very last file in the very backwards. He's purple, hairy, chicken parts. That was life in the thing I remember Mike about Jimmy. He was always talking to his kids. Maybe you should say, hey, baby, make sure you eat your peas. And dinnertime. Make sure you give your peas. I gave you. That's great. Every night. And we'd have to listen to that it was funny, but you know, Jimmy's turned out all you know, he still got the back here. We were gonna Velcro him to one of the chairs one time 'cause he's got more back here than anybody. And I said to him one night in the eye, she said, well, I did back here, sticking out of the top of your collar. I said, where'd you go tough? He did. He went to tough. Anyway, so Bill prito is our guest. He's an MSG note. Here's kind of what happened to you. You were with us from 92 to 93. And then ESPN2 launched and you auditioned and you got the gig. Right. You and Carl ravage. Well, you know what happened? Ravage and I started together in upstate New York that we auditioned against each other in February 93 for the SportsCenter spot and they hired him. I don't know if you remembered me, but I was like comatose for 6 weeks after that. Yeah, you were kind of upset. Not happy. And then I got hired for ESPN2's launch. Do you remember the agent named gene sagely? I do not. I know that was your agent, but I don't remember, did I didn't you work with her? I maybe not. No, I worked with a couple other flunkies before Ken fishing came along. But she didn't want to got you that second crack at that? Yeah..

"And it'll be your own hair. You'll be glad about it. We have a special guest tonight. First let me introduce Bill Smith man Smith. Thank you. Smitty is a legendary radio legend. He said in a legendary status of radio legend ism. Thank you. Also, soon to be radio legend Ben kitchen. I heard Ben over the weekend on the W ei provenance airwaves with his friends. And he actually sounded like it was his show and he was in charge and he was directing traffic with the show. It was good. It was actually really good. Thank you. You know, and I've never said that to you before. No one's ever said that to you. Correct. But it was good. Logic banter. You were using all your arrows. Those skills have. Every arrow in your quiver. And in fact, I thought it was a great Ben kitchen, this is his name. He should change his radio name to Ken bitchin, and it would he would just take off like a rocket. Bitchin with kitchen. Now my life has been full of people named Bill and they've all had an impact on my life. Of course, there's still my friend billio down in Florida. Bill Patrick, who I was roommates with and before he went to ESPN and turned into kind of a ship ball. Bill Lee, Bill Lee. The spaceman and of course our guest today. A guy I worked with, if this is right, I can't believe you left out Bill Smith. Oh, you're sitting right here. I introduce you first. Your friend Bill. Thought it was going to be on that list. Hey, send me the bill. Bill peto is just an unbelievable character. He I worked with him 29 years ago, almost 30 years ago when any CN first busted looses New England's regional cable network. And we're happy to reconnect with my old pal Bill Pito right now. Pinot. What's up? So remember this. It's New England cable news. New followed by new. Followed by news. Followed. I'd say after this program launched 30 years ago in March. March of 92, you believe it's been 30 years in March. I can't believe it. It's unbelievable that much time has gone by so much has happened. I'm on my second wife. I've got two children that are not even sub teenagers. You've got daughters, right? Two daughters, 22 and 20, and it's amazing. I still have my hair. Well, if you run into a problem with that, call doctor Robert Leonard one. No, I don't need your sponsor there. No, you guys do it here. You have good ideas. You've always had good debate. The daughters, you know, how the dog. You have girls? Or what's a breakdown? I'm sorry you brought that up. My daughter is now in her early 40s. No way. Yeah. And she hasn't talked to me since she was in her 30s. Is that true? Yeah, that's true. But we can talk about that off the air. The thing about Peter is, this is unbelievable. You know, he's got good TV here. You know, that's like, you know, it's dark. You don't die it, do it. Your hair is that naturally. Like Ron burgundy? It's really good. But he also had when we had him on the TV back in the early 90s, he had hair between his eyebrows that was a connected. It was like who's that basketball player? Yeah. You called it a monobrow or a unibrow, and we used to give you more shit about that. I know. I know. For no reason. I haven't touched it. It's one heck of a. It's a bridge over troubled water, you know what I'm saying? You have to keep toothpicks in there for, you know, location needed one. That was really good all day. So Bill peto and I remember him constantly having to spell his last name to people on the phone. I'd say he'd say, hi, let's build Peter. PID is David T's and Thomas O. Right. So here it is. PEA, DO, GH. Ah, there you go. Phonetically. Phonetically, please. Now there's no one gets it right. I know. But it's ingrained in our memories. I got to tell you something. This is really, really weird. Now, you've gone on and done stuff. You're not MSG network and so on and so forth. You had a great care ESPN. But people always text me or tweet me or on Facebook and house peto. It's like they think I talked to you every afternoon. How's Peter doing? You like lasted in the memory of the viewers of that network indelibly. Well, we had a lot of fun. I mean, all kidding aside. You would come on, do your first block of highlights. The serious news block. Yep, that's right. Tongue in cheek. And I would come on, right? And then we would just remember we had Eric our producer who was the best by the way. He's very successful. What's he doing? Well, you know, he's a basically syndicator of original content. He did Amish mafia to the shark week stuff. He's like, he's big stuff, his company, hot snakes media is constantly booking shows on major national networks and he's just as good as we thought he was, except we didn't let him and he never called us. That's hurtful. What is he gonna do? So I go about your eyebrow. I mean, you have a job. We could do what we did back at necking on the New England cable news network. With Kevin Roche with Charlie Kravitz with Roy hops. The late Roy Hobbs. Yeah. Hey, Bill, tell us a story that Mike never told us about something Mike did. I will tell you I was a little bit late. I apologize 5 minutes late for this interview. But Mike, if Mike was 5 minutes late, we would have celebrated that as a fact that he was only 5 minutes late. There was the dreaded commute from Vernon kinetic. Yeah, Elliot, yeah, 86 miles each way. Right. Now what about your commute right now? You go from Connecticut to New York, isn't it just as far? I stay a lot. I stay over a lot. And you know what? The hockey and the basketball. So in the summer, we don't do a lot. So thankfully. Oh, good. Yeah. I didn't have to move. So Mikey was late all the time, would you believe now that he's always early and super anal and a pain in the ass if anyone's more than 30 seconds later? I've totally changed my stripes when it comes to that. I was true. I was so obnoxious in being late. It's like I didn't care about anybody else's feelings on any of that stuff, and I completely stopped doing drugs. No, I am really early now. All the time for everything. In fact, I'm never late. So where do you guys worry as you taped this? Are you all in the same spot? Yeah, we're at the epic studios of this is the what he called palom island studio where many famous bands have recorded their albums. Okay. And we do the on time. I'm on time every single week I'm early, actually, I'm early, you know, which is unbelievable. We did have kind of a loose, I don't know, loose formats on that show. Because it was live TV. Now, you know, and I know Bill Pito that there's a vast difference between live and taped anything. Right. And when the fun part, the adrenaline part of doing that show was we didn't ever know what was going to happen. On the show, ever. I've never and all these seriously, and I'm not just saying this because I'm on. I've never seen a guy just be able to sit down and just do it without any preparation wasn't our thing. On time arrival, what's not to say? Right. Right. And you had no idea in that first block. I don't think.

Atlanta Hawks-New York Knicks Series Preview
"Let's get to the four or five nacho. This one is interior. Going to be a lot more entertaining. Probably the one. Eight matchup gets underway. Knicks hawks sunday at seven pm eastern on live from madison square garden. The best place you could ever go to watch a basketball game. The knicks swept the season series. A couple of those games. You know nate. Mcmillan wasn't even the coach so they were earlier in the year but keys to the series before we get to our predictions for nick's hawks. Trade started on this one. Well i think. Julius randle has an opportunity and a strong chance at being the best player in this series. He was incredible against the hawks. During the year in three games he was over thirty points per game to forty point games. He had a game winning tip as well. Clearly i'm tap dancing right now. I'm trying to pull up these splits here. You know you mess around with your tabs so much during a show it just throws the was saying julius randle thirty seven points per game. Twelve rebounds six assists. He had the game winning tip as well. He dominated the hawks this season. There's no doubt about it. They just don't have a great matchup for him though. We'll talk about some things. They're gonna do a little bit later on. I'm sure but i do think randall is going to produce at the very least the question will be. Where do the knicks. Then get all of their other points. They've had some great shooting this season. They got five guys shooting better than forty percent i think. Derrick rose has a chance to have a really good series here but skeets. I was listening to your podcast with l g do set on the. I meant you were talking about guys. Who have tyler hero. Potential somebody to explode in the playoffs who also has a cool factor. Let me offer you. Rj barrett my pick for this season's tyler hero forty percent from three during the season. Hit some big shots late. He was at forty seven from three point line for the last two months of the season. He really heated up. the shot. seems real. And i don't know he seems like a bit of a cool customer after getting called out by anthony edwards gimme rj barrett to be the secondary star for the knicks in this series. Because they've got to figure out a way to get to basically one hundred points
