"The world is watching what do you what do you make that? I mean, you know, I don't know. I mean, it's look if it's if it's bluster. To get people from the military to defect obviously, that's a big part of it. If there's a serious idea that that we would meet this with a significant response. That's terrifying. I think we've really should not be involved in any way responding to things like that. Because now in this political leader, I mean, journalists that friends of mine no is was detained yesterday. Don't know where he went. He's been disappeared. You can look at Francisco Toro's. Twitter feeds about that washing posted something about it. Leopoldo Lopez has been house arrest and was in prison cell that was four feet wide and six feet long or something some horrible little place. We could have we should have done all that then too because these people are being treated horribly. This is a long long history from one thousand nine hundred eighty eight early ninety nine to today of people being treated horribly. They're so don't come in and flex your muscles. And pretend that you're going to be the savior because you know, people I said this a long time ago is that the second Trump starts talking about Venezuela. It's you're just handing a weapon to the government and good God. Are they using it? And you see people on Madero side. He's still has a small number of people twenty twenty twenty five percents last opinion poll I saw that support him, and they just talk about the Gringo imperialists from the north that are going to come down and occupy the country. In be successful at what they failed at the bay of pigs. Don't give them that. I I want to pick up on the point that you made about kind of colliding with reality that you see on the democratic socialist left and sort of the the potential time constraints on their their moment in the sun. Here you could draw different of time line for the Neo cons like the intellectual ferment begins in ninety eight ninety nine at least in the modern terms. The actual for Manhattan, by the way, they had they had a significant amount of government experience. You know from team b the reassessment of the Soviet threat on. Even earlier that technically, but like the Bush in there is a lot of people that serve the Reagan administration that transferred over pretty easily. And there's a lot more than three. And plus Bernie, an interesting thing to think about is that there's going to be an already has been serial collisions with reality right Vermont past Medicare for all a couple of years ago governor signed it into law. They thought about trying it and looked at it and said, oh my God. We can't do that. That's Bernie Sanders is home state, right? The. Amazon tax in Seattle, Amazon tax and Seattle didn't work governor Cuomo in New York. Two or three weeks? Back said, oh, hold on. We don't have two billion dollars two point eight billion dollars of tax revenue that we thought that we had before this, partly because the stock market has been fluctuating law, and maybe some of it has to do with the removal of the state and local tax deductions. But like there is a finite. Limit on these grant schemes in the places that people have to deal with finite limits, and we're only beginning to see this. I mean, it's there's a lot of discussion of Overton windows of if we just say that we want the green new deal, or whatever it is that we want Medicare for all the holy and Castro's now talking about reparations busting Bernie's chops is a guys for Medicare for all in fifty dollar minimum wage and a thousand other things, but where you on reparation. He was pretty he was hard on Bernie about it. But also, Kamala Harris and Elizabeth Warren and Cory Booker have come on for some form of res- reparations holy cow to which I recommend John quarter..

"Weaving. We won't be dreaming for another couple of hours. Right, bradley. We get a little shadow all, you know, you're here late in the morning, right? Yeah. Because I one morning I hung out with you. When bad weather is out there. So, hey, let me go ahead and get Ken back on the fold here. And we'll finish up the show with cannon, Dan and blind men and Pat if he calls in. Can I was talking to you a little bit off air? You said there are some new information coming out by the Kennedy assassination. You wanted to hit a little better that now you'll save it for next weekend. Let's save that for next week. Okay. I'll have more time. Yeah. And maybe we get Tony involved in it. Now. I just went we've been talking about the communist circus. Yeah. In the main circle is the state of Virginia. Yeah. That is an and I hope people see how completely bizarre this whole situation is they've got a governor and attorney general wore black face in college parading around and some kind of plays or skits, or whatever, and they've got an assistant attorney a Lieutenant governor that's raped one woman sexually assaulted another that we know for sure, but they don't they're all denying all the charges. None of them. They're going to resign. There are no riots in the street. Women the metoo movement is dead silent island. I hope people see that exactly. How one side spend Justice. All there wasn't a shred of evidence. Nothing. Nothing nothing. The woman was a complete and total liar. She was paid the lie. She was fade and coached and coached. Remember, she was coach share play. Yep. It was a three act play. But notice now not one word of the metoo nothing. Nothing woman. This woman is being crucified by the women's movement. If it's Democrats there's no way because if all three of these guys have to resign, a Republican will become the governor of Virginia. That's why they won't. It's all about power to them people need to see these examples. It's happening right before your eyes. What these people are they are communist they want to take over as Doug. Your money. They want the power, you know, in healthcare, I keep talking eventually under a socialistic regime. There is no healthcare in a year a year, the average age of the population will drop ten years in the first five years. There will be no medical care now only they talked about infanticide in govern in Virginia said that was great. Well, that also leads you know, older people. Your people, Sarah Sarah Palin said they were going to have the death panel, death panels. Yep. You're exactly right. Well, it's really a true socialistic say older people when they have terminal diseases are just put away. No, make it a humane caused people need to understand this. We're not kidding this. Stuff's for real look at what's going on in Venezuela. That's in war. Nncholas Maduro will be dead within the month. You know, it's coming to ahead. Hey, if you're the people down there, you're going to die one way or the other die of starvation, or or whatever you're gonna fight back in the fight to your last breath. But now supposedly murderers got his henchman stop and relief efforts. It's coming down there. So I mean, yeah, it's gonna get battle up. But then you're gonna have the mainstream media, you know, protecting that socialist Bernie Sanders and OAC, and because they sided up with Madero, and I'm sure there's bunch of others crackpot, probably the fake Indian warns on Madero side, and that Christian Kila brand or whatever be Dave. Trump could within ten days take care of Madero. You remember Ronald Reagan went down to Grenada. It took him three days to clean up the mess in Grenada. Okay. Cake won't take the United States a week to clean up Venezuela. Well, let's let's do it. Hey, I'm running out of time to get these other callers in there. So I'll talk to.

"Look, they're pushing for regime change and every time I see that. I get incredibly uneasy. Yes. I acknowledged that Nicolas Maduro is a bad guy. But anytime there's a push for regime change from outside forces especially outside forces who oftentimes are influenced by business interests. You're going to have a disastrous situation. So it makes me on easy. And at the same time. I recognize what the Venezuelan people are going through and buy like, yet, nNcholas Maduro might have not gotten elected democratically fairly, but neither did one Guido. Yeah. So look. If you came up with solution, the world did all the international community did and right now, the national communities split so on the side of and his Wella and Russia is also China, Mexico, erg, why Bolivia etc. So that's on the Madero side saying, no, why does not the elected leader of as well. But if the world were where to be United name decided, hey, look, let's have new elections as as monitor them either Jimmy Carter's organization or the United Nations or maybe Mexico. All right. I would love that. That would be the perfect answer to this. Because I I don't believe that Madero was democratically elected. But we know for a fact why does that we know for a fact that he's influenced by foreign actors, including the United States who he coordinated his announcement with Donald Trump tweeted minutes after guavas said that he was the the real leader of Venezuela. Now, the US has said oh Guido. We'll. Get to control the assets of Venezuela that is in US banks at I think, that's outrageous. So I'm not interested in other coup. So it you've got a series of bad choices here. The only good choice to one I just outlined with doing a another election, that's actually fair and monitored. Now, it's going to be incredibly difficult to get Madurai to agree to that. So I understand that make knowledge that but of all the other options, which are all bad. I think the worst one is a de facto coup where we have a total mess and and risk civil war within Venezuela and the military continues the back Madero, but what if the military was split. And then what we're gonna have another situation, like, Syria, Iraq, etc. On our hands and g it's another country in the world. That happens a lot. Oils all of a sudden, we're meddling in their elections. Now. What wait I thought we were guest mentally in elections. Now, we're principled here on the young Turks where he has a Russia's meddling in our like, she's but we're also against us meddling in Venezuelan relations. Yeah, exactly. And remember the US has been attempting to. Do a coup on Venezuela since two thousand two there was a failed coup back in two thousand two and it was US backed. And that was when Hugo Chavez was the president. So again, there have been business interests involved whenever there are these outside influencers trying to come in and do something like regime change..

"Julia Morica so two bombs have exploded during a service at a Roman Catholic cathedral in the southern Philippines, killing at least seventeen people and wounding. Dozens more reports suggest one of the bombs went off outside the cathedral on the island of hollow. While mass was being celebrated a second exploded as the security forces responded. It comes only days after a referendum on autonomy for the mainly Muslim region. Returned an overwhelming. Yes, vote the BBC's. How Johnson in Manila has been telling me more. Yeah. The Philippine army has said the eight forty five this morning in the southern Philippines on the island of polo, which is close to the rest of island of Mindanao. We saw two explosions take place in the hollow Roman Catholic cathedral. The first one was inside the church. They say the second one outside as people were fleeing and rescuers. Coming to help those victims of the first bomb attack. Details are still emerging as a how many people had been killed and casualties. The Philippine armed forces Defense Secretary has come forward Duffin Lauren's honor and condemned the attack he said that he wants the public in the area to remain calm to as he says deny terrorism any victory in today's events and tell us a bit more about hollow and the significance of where this has happened. Hollow is an island in the south of the Philippines. It's a stronghold of a terrorist organization called Abu Sayyaf Lucienne affiliated with Islamic state. They were involved with the battle of Marawi in twenty seventeen that battle went on for five months between the armed forces. Abu Sayyaf and another group called the mouth. Lots of casualties there. The city was razed to the ground. There were a lot of internally displaced people, and they still internally displaced the conflict there really hit that city hard. Now, what we're seeing in that region is a peace deal that has emerged in the last year also brokered by the Turkey and the more Islamic Liberation Front. That's the BangsaMoro vote and that was voted on approvingly last week on Friday. It got the green light from people in the region and that aims to be set up. Now as a way to try to bring about peace in this very restive region. Presumably though there have been opponent to that peace deal. And that might give a clue I stress might to those behind this attack. Yeah. This is a very complicated. Peace deal now, the Moro Islamic Liberation front at the Moro people. Muslim majority people who live in the area, particularly on the island of Mindanao, but some of the islands close to it. They have different forces like Abu Seif as I mentioned before one of the fiercest and most vicious terrorist groups in the Philippines. There's also the new peoples. Army a communist groups, still fighting for land rights and for our rights for poor people in the Philippines. There are lots of conflicting claims to the island of Mindanao. Lots of demands on the government are these Peacedale hopes to bring around the region that will give a bigger share of the pie more money from imperial Manila as the people in the south put it and also there's a hope that they'll be greater self determination, there'll be more money, so that groups like the Moro Islamic Liberation front and the moral National Liberation Front. They can use money to promote themselves not as fighters, but to promote their culture and to perhaps get. More tourism into an area that for many years. Lots of westerners have been told not to visit how Johnson in Manila, the United States and Russia have clashed at the United Nations Security council over the political crisis in Venezuela. Addressing the council the US secretary of state, Mike Pompeo blamed President Nicolas Maduro for the country's humanitarian crisis. Now. It's time for every other nation to pick a side. No, more delays. No, more games. If you stand with the forces of freedom or you're in league with majora and his mayhem. Some countries publicly taken former president Madero side, China, Russia, Syria and Iran are just four of them. It's not a surprise that those who rule without democracy in their own countries are trying to prop up Madeira while he is in dire. Straits, the Russian ambassador Vassily Nevada accused of plotting against president Maduro he described as ridiculous a call from the European Union for Venezuela to hold elections within eight days eight days what why is this deadline? This is not this is not the way to resolve the crisis in Venezuela. We strongly object any external interference we strongly object any ultimate what we need to do is to facilitate political sites in Venezuela to resolve the crisis peacefully and to get country while the American secretary of state, Mike Pompeo, urged council members to recognize the opposition leader one Guido is Venezuela's new leader. Meanwhile, the defense attache at the Venezuelan embassy in Washington said he now recognizes Mr. Guido announcing his defection from the government of nNcholas Maduro. Colonel Joseph Jose Luis Silva called for fresh elections, Mr. Guido declared himself interim president last Wednesday. What I've been speaking to PJ Crowley, former US assistant secretary of state in the Obama administration one has to figure that having endured this mismanagement. I. The traumas regime and now the Maduro regime. The pressure is building on Venezuela that something has to give a real question now. And we don't know the answer is whether what unfolds next will be relatively orderly relatively messy. It could go either way. What part should the United States be playing in influencing what happens next what we have in Venezuela for the first time in several years is a viable opposition institutionally rooted that now has the ability to challenge nNcholas Maduro in ways that he hasn't seen and so the United States the organization of American states, the European Union have chosen to recognize the interim presidency of the speaker of the national assembly one white, oh, and that certainly has put the Madero government on its heels. I think going forward a lot will depend on. Public opinion in Venezuela and critically a lot will depend on what the Venezuelan military decides to do. It's a plot against president Maduro as far as the Russians are concerned. Well, the Russians and the Chinese obviously in the United Nations objected to any kind of international sanctions, I think they're doing this for geopolitical reasons, they have ties to the Venezuelan government. I think they're all also doing this for philosophical reasons, they see this as international interference. They're very sensitive to the idea that the people could rise up and force a change in government. That's something that. Zhang ping and Vladimir Putin both fear. What if the fact that we still have American senior figures figures of significance within Venezuela within the embassy in Venezuela? What bearing does that have on the events of the next twenty four forty eight hours as you're in a situation. Like, this is critically important that have reliable is in ears on the ground. If you've got an embassy that's functioning they can report we've talked to these people. This is what they're saying. This is what we see on the streets. And then from that that informs policy going forward if you don't have those eyes and ears directly. Then you're relying on other third parties to credit give you perspective. So it is risky to keep American diplomats present in Venezuela and the capital under such difficult circumstances, but it's very very valuable in terms of understanding what's happening in Venezuela. And what perhaps the United States can do to support what's happening there. But what about the defense attache? Shea the Venezuelan embassy in Washington who said that he now recognizes Mr. Guido and that fresh elections are needed. Does that say to you anything about the wider picture concerning the military invalids? It's very interesting. If you if you go back in recent years to other similarly unfolding events, I remember in two thousand eleven the Libyan embassador broke with the government of more market offie, and that turned out to be a fairly a fairly big deal. I think the real question is was the military attache who was he talking to back at home? And the question is whether that reflects a growing sentiment within the Venezuelan military that it may have to take sides. You know, secretary state Mike Pompeo said today in the United Nations that you know, it's time for everyone to pick a side. And it's very interesting that the military attache has responded to that PJ Crowley, former US assistant secretary of state during the Obama administration. "AM six thirty. What happened in the US Senate votes do or not do and what's the next step with partial government shutdown? Stephen Dinan, political editor at the Washington Times will join us. Narping five o'clock hour and also in just a few moments. We're going to be joined by organization doing something for the coast guard who is sort of stuck in the middle on this partial government shutdown without pay but still doing their work as a member of the armed forces. The one branch of the armed forces not getting paid. But we got some friends stepping-up forum over there at hope for the warriors and by extension with some help the Fisher house. We'll tell you all about it right now, we're joined by a columnist for Bloomberg opinion, ally lake to sort of help us sort through. What is a bit of a confusing story with regard to Venezuela and the turmoil there ally good to talk to you, sir. Great to be here. Thanks for having me. Well, let me start with an easy question. Who's the president of Venezuela right now? Well, I mean, it depends on who you talk to you. Yeah. I mean, the the the president who won, you know, an illegitimate election last year about eight months ago is still nNcholas Maduro. But one Guido who is the president of the national assembly declared this week yesterday that he was invoking a section of the Venezuelan constitution, which allows him to sort of say, I am the interim president use this period to call an election to fill the office which. Easy this vacated because most of the doors opposition not recognize of that election. More important though in twenty fifteen Medeiros opposition one two thirds of the seats in that national assembly. The response from the Venezuelan president was to strip the national assembly of its power, and to effectively pack the legislature and create his own kind of national assembly, which was clearly, you know, another graze in violation of Venezuela's constitution on top of you know, what really was going back to nineteen ninety nine the election a few. Shabas was a strangulation of democrat of democratic institutions to Venezuela. Yeah. So what the Trump administration did? And I think it was the right decision and several other allies followed most of the countries in the western hemisphere at this point. And also the European. Union have recognized. Why does the interim president of Venezuela and support his plan to hold these election? So that's the the sum of all, right and Madero. It's fair to say as sort of a strong in the in the model of who. Shabas? He's sort of these. He's shabas. Reductions I know that simplistic, but but it's good for the sake of this discussion. Right. Well, he's a less. The less charismatic demagogue Shahbaz. I mean, he's. Without the charm. Okay. Good. Well, and, but, but you know, clearly strongman is charitable. Yeah. In the case of nNcholas Madore. You know, he has presided over the suicide of his ancient. I mean, the, and I think he's he's he's sort of a modern equivalent of a hero where he has done nothing to address the miseration of his country, and it's important to get a sense of this. But I think the latest statistics something like sixty five seventy percent of Venezuelans extreme poverty, it has caused a refugee crisis in Latin America, which is response at the hyperinflation at this point. Approaching unbelievably like a million percent. So you know, there is. People who have jobs do not have enough income to feed themselves family. And this is what was once a very wealthy. I was going to say this with their natural resources. This is a nation that should be one of the wealthiest in that area. And that's that's yeah. So so given that and listen, the Trump administration has been quite consistent on this even from the campaign in into the administration despite changes in leadership in the State Department and the national security agency they've been really consistent on Venezuela. How does this play out who has the military will this end up being sort of a bloody situation in Venezuela? Because Madero doesn't want to go anywhere. Well, what we saw yesterday was after a period where we didn't know where they stood the leadership of the Venezuelan military has sort of pledge their loyalty to Madero, but that's not where the story in. There are a few things to watch at this point one is what's left of the Venezuela. Elon army because they don't have enough really to pay their soldiers. It'll be interesting to see if sort of rank and file middle rank officers and enlisted people will turn and shoot demonstrators or follow orders to arrest opposition leaders. Yeah. So that's the first question. So it's a little unclear because I don't think I mean, I think that it would be foolish to assume that there is a stable chain of command right now in the Venezuelan military like all institutions now in Venezuela. It's really, you know, we're seeing really deteriorated. So that's the first question will the military follow the orders of the dictator to to kill and arrest. The opposition. The second thing is that. Harsher bounce on Venezuela, politically, we're now starting to see today with a statement with a speech before the organization of American states saw secretary of state peyot begin to announce that there's a lot of economic relief coming if they just sort of follow, you know, the past towards having elections, you know, and and and start this transition back to democracy for Venezuela. And that could be a real incentive because the country is as we talked about as starvation country is a misery. Finally, Eli lake we only have a minute left. But the other angle of this story has to do with Moscow Moscow through Cuba, and and various other satellite states has always had some interesting, Hugo Chavez, and the communist regime there, and they are they're on the Madero side here is there a is this a proxy face off between the US and Russia, and it is telling that Trump is defying the Putin agenda here because we keep hearing. He's a puppet of Putin. Well, I mean, leaving all the domestic politics aside, if the Russians wanna make claim that they are allowed to annex Crimea because it is in their neighborhood and traditional influence, then they ought to respect. The fact is traditionally the western hemisphere has been America's sphere of influence. I don't expect to see from the Russian. Yeah, they have move some David ships and other sorts of things which are very troubling. I am more worried right now about Cuba. In.
