"We are back for another episode of Kotoka split-screen. I'm Maddie Meyers. And I'm joined as by Kirk Hamilton. High Kirk what's up? Hello Matty it's nice to see you what's up. It's nice to see you too. Nothing is up really. Accept that also. Jason Schreier is here. Hi Jason Low. Hello Hello Hello. What's up Jason Year friends? I hope that you are both seeing safe from the virus so far. I don't know if you've heard but there's a virus going around interesting interest of heard some things about the last week last week we were talking about this and kind of a hypothetical terms and it feels like forever has happened. It feels like years. It happened since then been cancelled and postponed a lot of video. Game things and a lot of other things in life have been. Maybe maybe it was two weeks ago. It was superseded getting into in talking about like what it could potentially do That was when Sonia just pulled out of GDP. But since then it's like it's officially on the stage of Lake. Everybody Start Getting Ready. Bracing for full-on pandemic still feels a little bit like we're in a stage but yeah agree with you. Yeah it is definitely a limited stage But it is feeling very real and it's the only like pandemic and pretty much having played so I've played pandemic legacy and I can tell you is just like their little cubes on the board. When I look at one of those maps it really does kind of reminds you of the cubes. Did you see that plague INC is currently or at least? When I saw this news a few days ago could not be played in China yes Kentucky Dot Com. That's right. I saw several places and knock. But we'll see the thing I wanted to bring up. Is that a couple of weeks ago. We were talking about like. Oh My god Sony Pauleta. Gdp what are people going to do and we were talking about how we might not go to. Gtc now just that nobody's going to GDP handled overfell not yet and it looks like all all of the conferences. The only one I seen. That's coming up in the near future. That is still happening as of now. A south by southwest Which is kind of a Weirdo conference? Anyway I'm not sure there's a lot of like the same sort of everybody packed into one. Big Convention Center spread out movies. There's a of gets pretty similar. There's a lot of people getting pulled into one place. It's definitely a big convention. Even though it's more spread out venue-wise it's still a lot of people coming from near and far. I would be shocked if it still happens. But really like cut. Conventions and conferences in every single industry are getting canceled People are like being advised to avoid travel especially to a few different countries I think like China Italy Japan and South Korea. The big ones that you're like Rosa no matter what Enron yeah And Yeah I mean things are getting real. I think at this point like I would almost be surprised if three happens Which is good news? Because if all the publishers pull out of three then I win my prediction that Vo that rule Tony Specify no reason. There is no reason necessary so if he three v three doesn't happen. That still counts as a win for me because that just means everybody. Does that? Also mean that you know. You're you're infamous for delaying games. Is that means that you will be responsible. For cancelling E. three to say. I think it's fair to blame me for for things like that. I mean it's your fault you're causing which by the way. Well I actually am patient zero. I don't know if you guys knew that but I still making the rounds on the planet just like passing that on to last month when I was on and break. I was actually at this. How now this is the conspiracy that reset era needs to threat out? There was probably already a threat somewhere. Jason started this should probably the thing. That's comforting will say is that I don't think that I think that even though the number that was bandied around two percent mortality rate. I think that's a pretty small sample size and I think as more people are affected having the mortality rate. We'll go down and Yeah I don't know who knows what's going to happen but it seems like most people know how to stay safe and be careful and travel and Washington and saw it's impossible it's impossible you can't imagine your face can't be such face right now. I might as well just have my hands over my face. It's this has made me realize that that's essentially my only activity everyday is touching your face constantly as much time because it's not like you leave the house much so like you don't know what they do one. It's up in Washington and Oregon. I don't know I have to go to the nursery so seattle. Oh yeah it's really bad. I mean that's right next door to me it's I am. I am actually concerned about it. Well you can watch something then touch your face right like thirty seconds. Which.

"Of a tidy person and that's that's a good pairing But he there was a time when he wanted me to wipe out the shower. We just remodeled one of our bathrooms and I started using his shower because so much nicer than mine and then he said fine. Fine fine but just wipe down the shower when you're done okay. In his mind that was specific behavior. My mind was not and so I didn't do it and I didn't do it. And then he would say wipe down this hour and to me. I didn't know what that meant. Rarely until one day he showed me and so once. The behavior became clear and specific. As like okay I can do this so it wasn't a problem with motivation. It was. The behavior wasn't sufficiently clear. Wasn't specific enough in my mind. Okay so let's say you've got a goal a thing you procrastinating. That's like lose weight right. That's that's huge. That's a big abstract concept. How do you start to tackle that if you're putting off what's the first step? Do you determine what part of the beam at model is is Is the kind of the thing stopping you. Yes that comes up and the good news here is. There are specific steps that address this and other behavior challenges map out in my book tiny habits and the first is to get clear on aspiration and that can be very short step but if somebody wants to lose weight take two minutes and think. Is it really weight loss that I want or do I want to look better to others or is it that I want to have more energy or is it that I want to reduce my risk of dying early because those are all different things and so get clear on your aspiration so you're designing for the right thing? Let's pretend like really as weight loss. You Really WanNa see the scale go. Okay that's fine but clearly. The next step is to come up with a whole bunch of different behaviors. That can take you there. And that's a method that I call magic wanding. And there's a way to do it where you can generate twenty or thirty different behavior options and many of them will be habits so this step after you get clear on what you're shooting for than it's what all the different ways I can get there then in the next step you pick among all those options and in that case you're picking specific behavior so you get clear you generate a whole bunch of behavior options. That are specific. Such as I'M GONNA eat cauliflower every day for an afternoon snack. I'm going to put a big glass of water. My work desk every morning. I'm going to turn off the TV at eight o'clock. Start my nighttime ritual so I can get more sleep which weight loss and then among those twenty or thirty options. You match yourself with the best options so there's a process in a flow and it's it's straightforward once. You learn it so you can apply it to things. You're procrastinating But also things that you're not just. It's a very efficient way to fit got. How do I reach this aspiration or this outcome? So what does the thing the thing that you're trying to do to seem so large and overwhelming and you can break it down to little tiny steps but each step doesn't necessarily get you closer to that goal. How do you how do you serve determine the model of how you're moving forward? Yeah so the overall flow. So I'm a person who loves systems. I'm just like systems and flow chart. I worked my way through as an undergraduate doing flowcharts of huge flow charts like five by eight five feet by eight feet of ice. Oh nine thousand protocols and I love system. So behavior is a system and the system basically for Procrastinations one for just looking at procrastination is is the behavior. Claire to is too hard to do. That's your question. Have so you tackle that and three if it's easy enough to do then you know a motivation problem? We can get to that but your questions about. Wow it just is too hard to do. There's a few ways to make it easier and again it's a system and I won't be as Geeky to walk people through the flow chart list some great approach. It's number one. One way is to take something big lag in pay my bills today and break it down into steps just right the steps down in bem which might take a minute. That has the effect of saying. There's my road WBAP now. It's seems easier to do so. That's one approach to making it easier number two. This is going to surprise people but one way to make it easier to do is just lower your expectations. One of the habits every weekend is to clean my car might beach card here in Maui which you can mess with Sand and boards inside it and snorkels and all that but once a week I clean it and it's become something. I don't procrastinate because it doesn't have to be perfect. All the have to do is clean one thing in the car and because it's like I just cleaned one thing I'm done. I don't procrastinate it. I guess what I do way more than one thing. So that's another thing is lower. Your expectations don't feel like you have to have perfectly clean house or car or you have to pay all your bills. Just do something another way to make it easier to get help either coach or somebody to partner with and of course you can delegate. That's part of that and then the last one I'll share to make it easier to do and we can diamond any of these more. Is You kinda trick yourself into getting started and so rather than thinking. Oh I have to like you know. Delivered to my accountant all of my bank accounts and expenses like no. Yeah eventually to get there. But I'm just going to set a timer for seven minutes. I'm GONNA work on this for seven minutes when the timer goes off. I'm done now. That is getting yourself to do what? I call a starter. Step the first definite process and most of the time you'll do more than seven minutes but you kind of tricked yourself enduro the drudgery of going through paperwork and well only seven minutes but once you get going to build some momentum in many of the Times you will keep going yeah. I've done this the tricking thing with myself. I for some reason. I always put off emptying the dishwasher. Which seems so small but it seems to just huge to me I hate doing. I hate it and I'll set a timer for myself and and the fact is you can do it in two minutes. It just doesn't take that long. It's on the there's just you know and even someone like me so. I've played her on my well. I grew up in a culture that was all about behavior and optimizing your life and the night studied it but even so There was a time a couple months ago where my lawyer had sent me. Something I needed to read and comment on and US like There's going to be so hard so delayed and delayed and delayed and finally she wrote me and said Bj. This is only going to take three minutes. And it's like Elizabeth thank you so once. I knew it was only three minutes then I did it but in my mind especially like are through legal stuff like this is going to be an hour of just stuff. I don't want to do so but even our have to remind myself. Just take the next step and I have this white little timer that US man. I can also use the time on my watch but the little hand held time right just set it and they just take the next step and you can stop when the alarm goes off and works and I can continue to successfully truck myself in that way. Video Games heard of him. I'm Maddie Meyers. I'm Jason Try and I'm Kirk Hamilton. And where the hosts of Kacoos screen we get together each week to talk about the biggest news from the world of video games. We also discussed the Games. Were playing from. The most elaborate blockbusters to the most interesting indie games. We're joined by a variety of guests from the world of video games from legendary developers to famous streamers to TV host to one time we had on an NFL kicker. Find US AT DOT com. Or wherever you get your podcasts so if following your model if we're trying to be map okay. So it's behavior equals motivation. Ability and prompt. Is that right yes okay? So if ability if ability is there and the prompt is there than motivation software. How do you determine we know last part of the flow as like so you rule out the other things I maybe? The big his start focusing on motivation. Like if you really focused on vacation but the behavior was something abstract like weight loss. You're just making yourself feel terrible and that's not I mean 'cause you're motivating yourself toward an abstraction that doesn't work so yeah motivation is the last thing in the troubleshooting sequence. You do here okay. So what if you determine you just you? Don't WanNa do the thing. Yeah well there are a few approaches to motivation. It could be that you don't have sufficient motivation to do the behavior like empty the dishwasher or and this is what I would consider before that there might be something that's d. motivating you something. That's making you afraid or something that you think. It might be painful. The way motivation works. It's like vectors. We have things that motivate us and things demotivate us. Let me go back to cleaning the car example. Yeah I'm motivated to have a pretty clean beach car. I know it's never going to be perfect. It's a Honda element super great sand in it. Fine but if it's the afternoon and it's hot then I'm d mode of it at the moment because it's like oh it's GonNa be hot. So part of me has hope that if I cleaned the car I'll feel better ride the other part is D- motivating me. It's like oh. I'm going to have to endorse pain because it's hot so those are like vectors pushing against each other. If I can remove the de motivator in this case the fear of being hot then the motivation can emerge l. to it so one of the things to look at if you feel like the problem is not enough motivation. Look and see if there's something that's d. motivating you then this case with. Well it's hot okay. Great I can either stripped down to my shorts and do it and try to stay. Cool are great. I'll just do it in the morning when it's not as hot so I won't force myself to do it and just be uncomfortable. I'll just do in the morning when it's not there anymore so it's often a step that people don't look at carefully enough and behavioral changes what is D. motivating behavior. Am I afraid of failing? Is GOING TO BE UNCOMFORTABLE. Is it going to make me look stupid to other people? And if you can identify those things and get rid of them are reduced them. Then your overall level of motivation will go up. I'm thinking about something like putting off writing a novel right like everybody has like three or most people have a dream of writing the novel of their lives. What how do you determine if you're afraid or you just don't want to such a good example? That's well I would go back through the process okay. What's my behavioral write? A novel is an outcome. It's actually finished novel okay. That's what people want so it's like what are the behaviors I could do? That would lead to me completing a novel. And there's a whole bunch of different wants. You could go on a three month. Retreat with no distractions. You could write for half a day you can ride fifteen minutes of the morning fifty minutes so. I explore all.

"And we are back for twenty nineteen. In retrospect we got up to June last last time. Now it's time to go from July. My name is Kirk Hamilton. Of course and I am of course joined by Jason Schreier. Hello Jason Hello. Hello Hello Hello and and also joined by Maddie Meyers. Hello Matty it's me. I'm still here it. Is You sure I guess a couple of things real quick before we get started first of all just as a reminder minder we will be skipping next week and we will be back again in a couple of weeks on January eighth around then. Whatever that Thursday is? I think it's a nice actually There's no just as another note. Um Merry Christmas to those of US celery and happy holidays to everybody out there listening listening to the show. And of course the U Kirk and you Mattie Happy Happy Holidays Merry Christmas. Thanks so much. Seemed seem to both of you. Happy Hannukah GSA then happy Hannukah. It's thank you hope. Everyone has a happy new year's they won't get to listen to the split screen but it can just recover from a fun night with all their friends in other words just beyond the edge of their seats to find out how our predictions Pan Down Pan Am sure. Everyone's realizing the hype. It's all about building up the important part of having a podcast cited for future episodes to those of you. Also have newborn children. Enjoy your going to sleep at nine PM. On New Year's Eves Newborn children going to go to bed early. Probably I'll celebrate goes time and go to bed Nano midnight Okay so Last time we did January through June so go back and listen to part one. If you haven't already and now he will do the rest of the year all of the Games that we played eight this year starting with July. So why don't we start with a sequel to one of My favorite recent games dragon quest builders too. I really really like at this game. I think it's probably beyond my top. Ten List TB and not sure yet though published your top ten list by the time in this episode. The answer will be out there by the time that this episode is but yeah just improves on the first game and a lot of really interesting in cool ways but also has some of the same flaws as the first game including a routine that winds up feeling very repetitive. Which is very Japanese game to type of thing to do you So I never actually finished it I got to. I think that third main chapter in the story and having gone back I might someday because it was really refund and there's really incredible to see creations that other people built like going online and traveling other people's islands. which is something you can do in this game and I just like hourly was just was like Holy Shit when I saw like some of ridiculous like building? Yeah that seems like a cool aspect of this game for sure his cool it is cool. You can see that some people. They created entire dragon quest towns and it's just remarkable to explore them and stuff like that So I really enjoyed it. Did either of you play this game now no I. I'm sure I'd like. Ah I liked the first one but then yeah it's just it's it's got some good stuff you get a paraglider so even moving around the world feels very different because as you're no longer just climbing and Following you you can actually like gliding around which is pretty cool Cook next up. We have a short hike. which which I literally just played and found really delightful at a fun little game very short as the name would suggest probably took me half an hour to play? If you're out there being like oh man. I won't play Games unless they're ten hours long at least than this for you but But if you have no time on your hands and you WanNa recommendation read a good piece by Patrick clapback. Our former colleague over advice. That was talking about how it like. It's animal crossing for people who aren't into animal crossing. He's got that charm form of animal crossing but is a lot more fun to actually play than if you're not into that specific style of gameplay which I thought was really good way of putting it and yet it's adorable all you guys played it or or didn't play Kirke finished it. I think I finished it was yesterday two days ago. I loved it. Yeah I played this on another a another friend from polygon. Fresh stick was telling me in. This game was great and that Game Mike made it pretty high in their top fifty games listening and he said Oh. That's one of my favorite the Games of the year. I'm like what the Hell is a short hike. This is maybe a couple of weeks ago so I thought okay founded on Stephen got it and played it. It took me more like an hour and change. I'd say I I took my the time. There's a lot of little stuff you can go find. Let's tell people what the game is though. So this is like a Indie game I think he's humble released it. It is very pixellated so so it's sort of looks old fashioned. Maybe it's a unity things so yeah you have to lower the resolution. If like me you the high-resolution monitor it automatically blew it up and minimize this little. Yeah it looks better smaller. And you're a bird named clair. I believe her name and she arrives Park Penguin right as an independent penguin. I don't think maybe she looks just like the bird bird and she arrives at a park where her aunt is a park ranger and the idea is. She needs to get to the top of the mountain to hawks peak. Get cell phone reception because she gets reception. And you don't know why and that sort of like part of the little story. It's a very little thing little story. Everything is very small and self contained. And Yeah I would say it's got. It looks a little bit like animal crossing the dialogue vibe very night in the woods it has that sort of like people talk like real people talk now now. There's a lot of Animals right unhappy because it's all lower case letters there no capital. There's no capitalization that is how I type. No one gets that joke but yes that's how I follows you on twitter at you. You're right so that's that's if the vibe is that chatty discussion and then you walk around and you kind of unlock the map a little bit and you can glide from high places back to low places leases. What's what I really liked about it? How it's so small like it? You could pretty fast set about beating quickly. But of course there's a lot of Nice little the characters you can be things you can turn people you can talk to you things you can see and the overall vibe of the game and the energy that the game is trying to give you is just the feeling of stopping salvin smell the roses. Like that's the message of the game is just enjoy that you're in this beautiful place and it's not like you do need to get to the top and it gives you a goal but then in the end really no spoilers. But they're like two endings. There are two aspects of the ending and I liked the ending a lot. I will say that one worked better for me in the other and and it's the more subtle one works better for me. which is more that the realization that you did all these things and metal? These people had this nice trip up to the top of the mountain and that in itself was a great reward. And your character like that. I think is like really neat. Message this game to have it made for great capper for the year honestly like especially like I've been playing Elvis resident evil two and it's like super stressful like to play a game or I was playing all that red dead to Jesus heavy big stressful and Dumi game to play this which says this very pleasant game. That's about just enjoying a pleasant space for a little while lovely lovely. I really liked it. Yeah Yeah Really. Cute really fund-. There's a really fun kind of message. I don't I don't want to spoil it like when you get to the top and you have this conversation. It's like so relatable voltage just about everybody. I know from music to really great really great music like the fire on one of the things that I found striking about this game. It's kind of it. It can be a little clunky to maneuver. And it's like Y- as you're hiking up these paths you run into other people and you don't just automatically passer Asu them like you'll bounce off them and so it's easy to accidentally hit someone then fall off into somewhere else and then what you'll find is that because the design of it all is really intricate. Chicken and cool and interconnecting. Is that like it's almost rewarding to bounce off because even though you you are losing track of where you were initially going you might find something else. That's cool or like find something making help you a little bit later on in a way where you were in like thirty seconds like there's never that feeling of US Shit it's just like oh well no what. I'm not transform restful game there's not a lot of friction to this game There are a little quests like someone wants you to collect fifteen shells and then other people try to sell you stuff and so there it is a game. It's not just like walking simulator. Anything wrong watching simulators. Yeah that's the way you're just saying to those of you who care because you've you hear this and you think like when I came into it I assumed it was just walking but it's not just one it's like it's like a three D platformer based. Yeah Yeah it's kind of Mario Ish anyway moving on next game. We've talked a lot about so we don't really have to you. Kinda relitigate here but fire. Three houses fire album is of course one of one of the standout games of the year. A game that I think will be on a lot of people's lists and just has been special to a lot of people for a lot of different reasons I found on that kind of dragged towards the end but still really enjoyed it. I know you guys both loves it. Cracked different versions of it. Right like Jaycee did you ever go back and replay it again with like a Finnish. Finnish had chosen like a weird tree. That you're you're we're doing the weird one you were the black lions with clients with the alternate ending path. Giving me well no go. You say they say the same thing which is that. We wonder how it would have gone for you if you had chosen a more traditional path. I think it's entirely possible. You would have enjoyed the game more not had the pacing issues. She's with with it that you did. Although I don't know I didn't play the path my main issue is the game play. Not The story was with the game. Play just becoming so out of of whack and in terms of balance and like some some of my guys would get one he killed by enemies and then meanwhile like my main hero dude is running around and just destroying everything in a second so it just wasn't fun to play anymore and that's why I stopped but I don't know maybe I'll go back to it. I kind of want to see the end. Yeah I do think like there's just something to like like the idea that having found the game extremely rewarding to play through his golden deer and like you know by the end of the combat was a little whatever like I was just my main guy could buy left could just like destroy everybody and that was fine but I also just into the story and into what was happening. I don't know I felt completely motivated to finish so that the fact that that's the major variable between the three of us does make me. You think curious what you would have thought of just playing it as golden deer but I you know I'm on blue. Lions now at some point want to go back to it. I love this game. This was definitely one of my top games of the year. Absolutely really loved loved playing. It didn't even care that it became sort of lopsided combat wise or whatever just loved love loved it yeah I really enjoyed it too. If I'M GONNA replay game. It might be second zero as disgust in another good one mother mother WanNa Replay Matt. Were you saying oh I was just GonNa say that if anybody listening hasn't played the game yet I feel like people. Should you just choose golden deer. Even if they don't feel that way because I've talked to so many people who played this game and I feel like that's what I keep hearing is that that's the good first path. INTRODUCES YOU TO A lot. The plot points that the other two houses. Just don't introduce you to as well or shopping or confusingly not that you would know. Jason is just something that I've heard like that. There are a lot of things about like violets birth and like ancestry and like things like that that were extremely clear to me playing golden deer but that apparently the other pathways are a little more vague about and just different other story story reveals..

"For another episode. My name is Jason Schreier and I am joined once once again by Maddie Meyers. Yes you are. Hello Jason and Kirk. Hamilton you are you sure are hello hello to both of you. Kirk and Medi is December. Two Thousand Nineteen is almost over. We are almost entering a new decade. And today we're going to celebrate the past decade of we sure are but before before we get to all of that we talk about the Games we are playing this week and not just this decade. I have some exciting ones but Mandy I actually want to throw it to you. You are playing. What's I am playing halo reach is? I'm just really thinking about the decade. I'm really looking back on it. I really wanted to just just go back in time check out. The Courtney synthesized horn section of the winter contingency battle theme music inhalant. Oh this isn't just random it just came out on. PC you're right fine fine. The truth is I'm not booting up my copy of Halo reach. I am booting up my a brand new copy Paler on P. C. via the master chief collection that I now have and the rest of the Halo Games are also going to be a part of that collection. But they're not out yet. They're not going to be out until like twenty twenty and beyond at all stages the only one. That's actually gonNA sad about that. Because somehow I missed that memo Komo which is tragic for me to admit like I was really expecting to boot it up and have every single halo game be available. What why is it only letting me click on the reach with what the Heck Google that and I was like? Oh I'm dumb and missed the news. That is very important. Obvious giving news that all these Games are not going out on the same day and only halo reaches. It's still called the master chief collection right. Yes because I remember eventually going to be ready to be clicked on. It's just that for now. Now they're all in like a mild gray font and only halo reaches in a bright white five click of all only the one with no mass effect so then like odious t will be next so no mischief in that one as well. I guess they're doing a weird time. Line thing because so halo reach is like a prequel but it also feels a little cheap on their part. Because it's obviously a game that was made significantly later and so it has a more modern design ethos than halo which I really excited to go back and play the Halos. Because I'm sure they're gonNA feel mega weird and possibly bad but also nostalgic at the same time so I'm excited about all of that but I also wasn't expecting halo reach to give me so much of that feeling healing because in my mind I was like Yeah Halo reach that that came out like a few years ago it did not. It came out ten years ago. So that's wild L. and also it feels super dated in ways that are enjoyable but odd like it does start with this big cinematic fancy cut scene but then when you're just walking around like a little neighborhood and then you shoot some aliens and it just feels so small somehow like compared to the way that so so many first person shooter campaigns. Feel now it feels like you're entering disneyworld and you're seeing these massive things happen and you like walk into new area and like a roller coaster falls on your head and you're on the rails for a while like that is so much of what I position shooter. Campaigns are now that playing one from from ten years ago where it's like. Yeah you walk right and she some aliens like there's a cool vehicle and then you get a bet you drive vehicle against not that it's bad at all. I just was like wow this feels. I don't know it feels like writing the Kiddie train at Disneyworld as opposed to writing. `Bout ever is at Disneyworld. Or whatever you remembering that I encounter. Is this like okay. It's this is my memory of halo reach which I played through in two thousand ten when it came out on sixty which also is you know some of the explanation for why. That's it's so much. Smaller right is that it was designed for like an entire generation right. The experts six. He was very very small. It was tiny and they had to fit a tiny game and it does feel. I'm remembering isn't it like you're kind of with the group of people and then you go to this kind of Brown House and looks himself happened there and then you run around and some guys attacked you and you have to worry about them for one second second fighting aliens also like all. The colors are weirdly bright. I don't know maybe think about how greedy games have become since then like halo is such neon on colors. You know what I mean like every place I think of the late two thousands is like like the post gears of war like far cry to fall out zone that was like the real brown period. Two Thousand Seven to twenty ten and this and that halo reach already doing like a decade Hillerich came out. It came on a year after uncharted. Two and I feel like uncharted sue. That was nine right. I feel like that was like such a shot across the bow of lake all the Brown Games because that game was so so colorful and like Hilo is kind of a reminder like Oh Hilo has always been pretty colorful colorful series. Yeah and you can design your armor in the scam. That's my hot tip man. We were in when this game came out. My mind was Super Blount. Because you're not playing master chief you get just play as a spartan of your choosing you can play as a female character in this urge deal to me at the time and you can still do it in this version but it does not make it obvious to you like I started up halo reach saw the first cut scene and they were like addressing me as he and I was like hold on. I didn't I can make this not happen like I remember playing this game the first time around and not being addressed with a male pronin hold up and so I like shut the whole game down and you have to go into options. It will not prompt you to do this at a time. The game options. And then you can like there's multiple things you can select one of them is your gender. It's like buried in a tree somewhere. It's like actually going to find it's like so. Why do you want your resolution fourteen forty? Yes you want to see. Oh you know do you want an inverted whatever music controller. You've got to scroll pass all of that and then it's like Oh also you can customize.

"The only podcast that uses the force responsibly. It's December fifth two thousand Nineteen and Beaten Star Wars Djeddai fallen order. I have Jason's playing hero land and the Star Ocean remake and Kirk is revisiting Baba. Is You we just mentioned in Disco Liam. Then we take a break discuss the news including the thoughts on half-life Alex and the two new xbox as we can expect one of which won't have a disk drive. Then we do off topic. Talk mostly about watchmen. Spoilers first and then as are closer we get back to games. Again with a spoiler filled section on star wars di- fallen order. Let's get to it and we are back for another episode of Kotoka split-screen Green I'm Maddie Meyers. And I'm joined as always by one of my co host Kirk Hamilton. Hello Kirk are joined by me here I am. I am but I'm also joined by the other one of my co host. Who is Jason Schreier? Hi Jason Hello. Hello hello my illustrious friend who is Jason Ace insurer who is a man of mystery. I'm doing a long term investigation on that for years now and I still. I still haven't fully figured figured it out but I'm finding more all the time you know. Yeah I'm looking forward to that. I could see the headline. Who is a picture of Jason Holding a PS work control and like giving a thumbs the camera? PS Four Control Jason. What is your console allegiance? First of all first of all. I think it would be a switch if anything or second second of all. I WOULD NIX that headline because I'm not a big Fan of question. Mark Headline so the question isn't going to be an is going to be answered by the story. That's always right exactly. I think we need to have something more Maybe that'll punchier. Maybe get the gist of the story. In that headline maybe figure figure out the angle is and work from there. Like the thesis verb in there. I think we need a verb. Yeah and like does the Jason Franchise have enough name. Recognition to carry a headline align journalists. Brought this guy is a great opener. I assure you guys talk about some video games. Really I just WanNa talk about watchmen like holy fuck watching. That's I wanNA talk about that lady. That will definitely be talking about. I guess we can get into that later but my goodness I watched it all Are caught up with my wife over the past week off topic section. I just WANNA I just WANNA say real quick. It was not at all the show that I expected and I was blown away by. They had get it as bad. We'll get to that later You guys want to talk about some video. We're playing yes I do. Yeah I'll go first because I don't have a ton to talk about just two quick make things because I was traveling a bunch and dealing a baby steps. I haven't a ton of time against something I play this game called hero land on the switch of you guys heard of it what I liked the name you on the video game while you'll really like the premise. Because the premise is that it's this Meta game where you play as the sky works at a theme park that's built to create Dungeon Adventures for heroes so people come in and they're taking a long on this theme park ride and the bosses and enemies are all employees of the of the theme park in Urine employee of partake. That's actually where I would've guessed. I would've guessed that it was like a theme park or something so it's funny that that's actually what it is. And it's a good example of a game that it's it's a good example of how even writing and like clever premises can't save adult game from being dumb because the actual game play is so dull In that it's like turn turn based RPG combat but you're not even controlling the heroes you're just like giving them guidance occasionally and it just works really really poorly. It's really really boring and Grind Ian and just completely turns me off But the writing is so clever in the premise is so good. And it's so funny and like interesting and well localized and it tells this like anti-capitalist the story about this this theme park owner. who like traps you in by getting you put in debt for like a basically a private equity sorry them feel like anti-capitalism the hot the new hot thing and video pop? It is. But it's even even rarer from Japan like I've never heard of a Japanese story. Italian started like this Japanese game telling us like this But it's such a shame that the gameplay is just so boring that bums me out because I want to keep playing but I also have have no interest in continuing to play so I probably will not play much more as much as I would love to see the story through and then the other game. I'm playing real. Quick is the remake of Star Ocean. Wine which is a PS one game that launched pretty successful sci fi franchise and I've been playing on the switch played much of it but I'm into it For an old school. PS One chair PG pretty cool stuff. I'll probably talk about that more next week. Played and Naff to be able to sink my teeth into it Kirk Eric. What about you? What are you playing? I have been playing a couple of things three things a few things. I've been kind of catching up. It's I have this impulse right now because this is the first fall fall where I haven't been at talk you as a Kentucky writer which has been. It's been interesting. Your impulse was that you were going to play through entire games. That's been your Mo Yeah it has yeah and it has remained that way. I'd say the fall has been the most challenging time for that because there was just this period whereas playing death stranding and whatever other things but I've been kind of sticking with that I'm in this hour I'm like well I'd better catch up on the stuff from earlier in the year. That was good so I can make my top ten list which is going to be a tweet. That's all on this show and yes that's true. That's true and I mean honestly maybe that's all a top ten list needs to be but We used to make where we make articles out of the talk. You and I'm I'm loving the idea of you just like stressing out. Oh well no no. The tweet had better be good and let me know if you need to netted better. Be Hope you'd better not miss out on best games of the year for this tweet it. That's the thing I've been thinking about it and then I'll think this doesn't really matter but I do still care and it still matters whatever Aminu like people still care what my car's matters right right. Surprisingly nihilistic take but yes that is true in so far as anything matters it matters what my ten games the era anyway. I was looking back over the year. And I've been kind of like playing things so I played more Louise Mansion because I feel like that's GonNa be my top ten which is great. I guess just quickly. How far are are you in that? Now Jason in Louise's mention I haven't played anymore since since we last talked. I just got the button for level six. Oh okay cool man. That's where it starts getting being really good and now there's a plant level that's very clever. In how some cool stuff and and then there's this TV studio level. I won't say anything I don't I I don't WanNa hear him once. I once in a SEC. But it's really cool. I think of listener emailed us about it and it's really hard. It just has this puzzle. That's really hard right and I solved it on my own without looking it up and I'm kind of shocked that I did. It's one of those puzzles where you figure out. It's like an adventure game puzzle where you take the like You know the chicken with a with a pulley in it and you realize that you're gonNA use that to go across the zip line and it just sort of works in and you're like wow how did I ever figure that out. I kind of had that feeling on this level of but man. What a good game? It's so really good so I really liked that game. I think the element of that game is amazing. Like there's always I find myself always forgetting that. I have greasy and then realizing Oh. This puzzle is a million times more complicated than I thought because I'm supposed to be controlling two people at once and it allows them to do so so much more than needed impasse game so it's really for good but the game that I've been going back to play from earlier in the year is actually Baba is you so I my brother in law got a switch for my sister for their family and so my nieces were excited about the switch. And he's excited about the switch and they got but I think a copy or switch that came with a copy of Mario Kart so they were playing that son and it was fun. I was down there for Thanksgiving and we plugged in the switch. And they're asking me of course Kirk. Like what Games should we get. Because I know games to get and I told my brother-in-law Mike I was like well. There's this game Bob Baba's you that I think you should check out. And he downloaded it and it made me want to play more Baba is you because I got kind of a ways into it and then I know Jason you would set like holy crap. This game gets so amazing the farther you go but I just kind of played for a night. Emily and I amplitude on the couch. And I kind of like a hard puzzle and then I just didn't find time for it but I was. I had been playing it on steam. I had press copy on steam and steam just isn't kind of the place to play that game. I feel like I need rich. Yes so I was like okay. I'm just buying this game. It's obviously good and worth paying for it again and getting a copy that I'll actually play so I've been playing it on switch. It is really good. I'M GONNA play a lot more of it. It's it's such a cool thing all explain the premise and I've gotten pretty good at explaining the premise which is kind of kind of its own. I'm puzzled in the case of this game is like is how to explain to people how yeah but explaining to people how it works. Does make people really excited about it and they want to hear more more like people who don't play video games guys might tabletop group and stuff so I've been playing that again. That game is amazing. And I'm psyched to play a little bit more and I've also making my way through. Let's go on my top three games. I WanNa talk before you motivated to talk more about Baba's. Yeah that's what I tap games of the year. I think that's like one of the best things I played this year. And it just gets a frigging clever. The more you go. How far did you wind up getting on your on your latest playthrough? Oh I haven't actually caught up to where I was before. Displayed displayed a little bit but restarting carryover. Not Super Far like in the water zone. I was probably like twenty puzzles in or something like that Just.

"Stranding Maddie and I both played a healthy chunk of Cogema's latest and she and I both like despite Jason's skepticism. We talk about the good the bad and the just plain weird of the oddball backpacking reversal game. From bridge babies to delivery delivery addicts deductor mads Mikkelsen. We also talk some about last week's blizzard con as well as the predictably delightful Louise's mentioned three and close out with some off topic. Talk Gardner minhsiu trick. Mirror for in Jordan peels US along with Elvis tastic music. Pick of the week stick around. It's going to be a fun one. Welcome back to the show. We're so glad as always that you have joined us. My name is Kirk Hamilton and I am joined by my two lovely co hosts Mr Jason Schreier. Hello Jason Low Kirk and Jason. I are also joined by Maddie Meyers. Hello matty hello. Hello Kirk and Jason. When I see both yet another week here we are here? We are here just a little tired tired just a little rain but here we are once again to talk about expenditure. It's been a couple of weeks so did I say fun. We're drained because of how fun it is drained laps a minute over here. It feels like we've been carrying boxes across the hines and deserts and Karake Mountains Jason. You're ruining the metaphor that I was planning on introducing a little later in the show I really thought about so. Please allow me the space S. attacked out and elaborate analogy between. I hope it's not settled because if anyone is not into take a director real quick before we jump into some video game talk. Should we talk a little bit about what's been happening because it's been extremely public. The story love our company with US Week and since the last time we recorded deadspin has become no more the staff of debts first of the staff of deadspin quit it then the editorial director took over and then the staff of deadspin quit again when he resigned early twitter joke. This is the St Louis sad and re all three of US love Deadspin Matt even worked with deadspin time and it's just extremely depressing. It's been extremely depressing to see what this company has done to them And Yeah I mean I just love those guys and I wish that things said knock down this way because it's like it's one thing to see a website get shut down because it's not profitable because it's not getting a lot of traffic but in this we saw that with splinter and that was very depressing as well to sit in a different way in a different way but yes but like for websites shut down for a website to shut down because certain people don't read it and don't understand what it does so well and therefore decide to try to fuck with it for no reason so many any other people do read it and understand exactly right but it's about all of that but all that all that needs to happen to people or one person who doesn't understand it does it read it needs to fuck with it and boom. That's it game over all the staff to quit anyway. It's really sad I'm really depressed about it. There's a lot of good reading. You can do on the subject to go out there and and read about it kirk any thoughts from you. Yeah I think the slate podcast that also has a transcript. That's an interview. Do with several of our former colleague as former deadspin colleagues. That's really good. I think gives a good rundown and is really sad and bummed me out but also was sort sort of you know just had all the information there. If you're curious what happened if you're listening to this kind of people talking about if you're not sure I thought that was probably the best summary I've seen of the explanation of the timeline and people's feelings about it was that podcast in the transcript so we shouldn't show notes or something. Yeah Yeah we'll put a Lincoln and one other thing I just want to link is for all the things that have been said about deadspin and all the articles that have been been written. You know a big part of this. Was this whole idea of stick to sports. Can you stick to sports. There's a ton of very thoughtful Pieces of analysis out there but I think the thing that stands in for all of that is that I think one of the best things I ever read at. Deadspin was about Gamer Gate. Eight am there. There's an article that Kreil Wagner wrote way back. When Gamer Gate was first happening? The headline is the future of the culture. Wars is here and it's Gamer. Gate will Lincoln and show notes. It is is still t- to me at least reading it now. I reread it yesterday. It's one of the best things anyone ever wrote about Gamer Gate. It is like frighteningly Prussian if you read it and know that it was written written before the two thousand sixteen election before the current thing world that we live in. It's like it's an incredible piece of writing and there are so many articles like that on deadspin and that don't have anything to do with sports because that was like Desmond was just more than that and I'm with both of you that it just completely sucks that this happened. It sucks to see something so great right and so beloved by so many people including me just sort of end like this. So yeah it's a bummer and All of my respect and support to everyone who used I work at a few things. A lot of devastating things have happened in media and at this company. But I don't think any of them have been as devastating to me personally as deadspin Jus- chattering for no reason so yeah all right and slightly. Later News Blues con up this weekend we should kind of talk about it a little bit before going into video games. We're not GONNA have a new segment this week. 'cause segment two of this week's show is all about death stranding So just real quick time just a Catholic bath like all the Hong Kong discussions. We've been having other WISCON- discussions we've been having Overall impressions obviously they announced the before and Unser Watch too. I was surprised. They didn't announce Diablo two remastered. I wonder if that's been cancelled or if it'll be announce another time. I'm not sure I should ask around about that but But the shit. We're out of a little busy this week. A little It's it's my show. Do a couple of interesting things. First of all so blitz con started keynotes started with the president jail and BRAC coming out and basically apologizing. For how how. They handled the Hong Kong situation but not actually like apologizing about it was a strange apology and he didn't actually change the the the ban any further like it was suspended for originally twelve months. The dude was suspended and then it was reduced to six months. But now it's still at six months So a lot of people will criticize that apology for being soft and then there were some protests at the show but overall it did not seem there was no big viral moment. The way there was last year with the Diablo. More at all April fools joke guy there is no big storyline that like that that the Hong Kong narrative took over the show. It just seemed like a another blues con went by and and who knows what whether people are still going to keep talking about Hong Kong when it comes to Blizzard Games and talk about what happened to blitz Chung but But it didn't seem like it made much of an impact. It seemed like the Internet was exploding over the announcement says we had kind of predicted they would last week Maddie do were you following coming along did you. Did you have any thoughts on and all that. Yeah I mean it was interesting to see people react to the apology in a somewhat positive way and then certa unrealized an hour later that nothing had actually changed. The apology hadn't really been much of anything. That was kind of fun to watch in real time but he sounded emotional Russian. Also I think that good way to start the show from a marketing perspective which we certainly I remember on the show. He criticized lizards. Lay Out of the show last year and their marketing decisions and this year starting without apology even with no action behind it. I think actually it was a good choice on their part. But the fact that there's no action action behind it is Kinda sad and so that is a shame to me. What I liked was in overwatch to trailer when the guy stood up on his own against Hansen overwhelming force and it was too much for him but then all of his friends and other people stood with him and solidarity they triumphed? I thought that was a really special message. Sued Overwatch to that. It was in no way in any kind of tension with other things that were happening. A blue-sky intake man. I was I was blown away like I. I A new by all the overwatch stuff. I knew that overwatch lower but like watching these trailers especially that first one that was just this montage of overwatch story moments as like. Wow this should all it feels like this is so wasted on a competitive shooting game. It should be like a big RPG or something and obviously tighten the original MMORPG's was was the original original B. before it became overwatch is cancelled and the vestiges of it became overwatch So they tried to make it a number of it's still. It feels like such a shame to have all this lower and now put it in a game that really can let you dig into that lower. Because it's pretty good evening. Isn't that nominally. What they're about to do they're trying to have their cake and eat it too? You by having overwatch to with some stray elements and still all of the multiplayer elements. That overwatch already. Had I. I don't know if that's going to succeed or not. But it is the balance they appear to be trying to strike. Yeah I mean this is a this is a observation as old as overwatch reading those original overwatch like short animated films. That are always really impressive. And it was always that feeling of I I would just watch a movie of this. I don't know if I WANNA play overwatch more like I think it's almost like I don't even know if an M. O. would be the right fit fit for all of those moments. Each one works as this perfectly encapsulated little very manipulative did of emotional bullshit kind of like not to to knock them. Because I really like all those over watch movies. I've watched a lot of character movies but there is more of a feeling this could just be as sort of a mini Pixar but like a dreamworks movie. That would be pretty good and I would watch it. That's kind of where I where I said. I like watching those watching those movies. I do yeah. Blizzard cinemax team is incredibly talented and it almost makes me wish they were making movies. I'm speaking real quick Diablo. Four thing Game looks like new Diablo game. Certainly I was actually. I actually Kinda loved that cheesy cinematic no matter that played before they like as reviewing the game is just so hardcore. Yes I'm ready for Lilith till I have horns and stuff. It's frigging cool and awesome logging. That stuff kind of still works on me as annoying as it is like an emotional trailer where people are working together or like a lady has devil horns like yeah. This is going to check my boxes. You're going to check my boxes. I like the I watched the gameplay trailer and it is always funny. How they're these extremely sturman? Mundarain link amazingly made cinematics and then they show the game. Little tiny people showed up and it's just the Oslo well okay. Hopefully this'll be fine. I guess that's so funny. Funny in Diablo three. And I'm glad they're just continuing the tradition of having just these extremely laverick cut scenes. That looks so beautiful and you just get back to this you know it was slanted view of your tiny little guy who's like swinging thermal jumps from the other it. I'm excited for before I will play the hell out of it but part of me wishes they had tried something else especially after hearing reporting guys. I'm sure have read the big story of Iran last year But knowing that they tried and experimented with this dark souls e like third person behind the power behind the shoulder view Even as like a spin off game I would just love to play like that. I'm just just yeah. There's a lot of games like that. Diablo is the owl at works. I feel like like that's fine. If they want to just making that same game it's true but even even the classes they announced like all classes more classes better that are very similar to previous classes tone and style. But maybe they'll be totally different. Maybe a blow my mind All right enough have games that are coming in the future. Let's talk about games that are out now so Before you knew the games were playing as I said before. We're going to talk about that stranding a little bit later after the first break so let's talk about games playing that are not deaths chanting Kirk do you want to start us off sure. Well I know you and I are both playing Louise's mansion three which we can talk about a a little bit. I before that just a little bit. I've been spent playing Disco Liam more rain continues to be wonderful game man. It's funny that's my main new observation is that it's just so funny..

"Inning and everything was a okay embrace last. until lost. and we don't want to blow the blues of the Atlanta Braves all year has been do they have an off in their bull pen in order to win in October. well their bullpen fail miserably when dad Chris Moore and open the top half the eighth inning he's feeling something is oblique so all. give me the only thing that again the goal Jackson Jackson comes in bomb the Paul Goldschmidt couple runners on and you could see this coming from a mile away if you're watching the game knowing the cardinals knowing their postseason history it was basically given that Matt carpenter was gonna get ahead I don't care how bad a year he has had he came all game on the line I expected him to deliver he did and he gets a bold double down the left field line. the card is that again. then you go to the top ten for nineteen eighty and basically say lowest draws all not worn to beautifully plays doubles down the left field line by Marcelo sooner and then down by the right field line with cold long dead end up making that a for one game and they needed every bit of those four runs as the breeze came back and scored three in the bottom half for the ending to a Ronald de Kooning it and his home run the other on a Freddie Freeman bomb but it's a big win for the cardinals. did down to Rollins band in their final six ounce they get a win on the road they steal game one now with Jack Flaherty one artist pages internationally goal lined up the pitching game to that's a big boy when right there and unfortunately for the Braves. the story alive for them it's the double whammy because not only do they lose a game in Haiti is fashion. you got to go to the bottom half of the seventh inning and is what a lot of people going to be talking about throughout the day rob the Goonies one of the bright young stores and all baseball is one of my favorite young players one of my favorite players pureed in the sport. but if you go back to the regular season there was an incident where Ronald the **** you wear he didn't run out of the box. should have been on one second and third base she's only offers space and. senator pulled from the game and said he's going from his mistake. where's the mall but try to send a message well in a playoff game game one of the division series a yeah it's a ball down the right field line well basically he's Chorlton face getting it out of the box thinking that it's going to leave the yard he was in he should have been on second base he's standing there are first. inexcusable base running from a Konya I don't care how talented you may be this is the post season. the time for cattle lacking and dog around the bases save that for a July game against I don't know the Miami Marlins do not be doing that in the post season when everybody is watching. so who is not on second base he's got the third on a ground ball it was hit the right side and then the infield is played out he probably scores on the borderline drive that was quite a chart except he gets doubled off because he's their second best. and let's just say a lot of his teammates. Freddie Freeman. made their feelings what in Korea we don't appreciate that sort of plaque. and good for Freddie Freeman and could feel at a brace FOR calling about I like while the crew you kids this study was in the ninth inning. his talents on full display but he was fifteen dearly. his lack of hustle. let's face it occurs gonna send a message by benching while the coding game to be stoned if that happens. he's too good a player the Braves meet him. but that lack of hustle ended up being very very costly could have been an additional insurance run for the breast. and I'll be the storyline to come out again wanted at Sirius the Braves yuck it up in a ball pan but Kunis lack of hustle. looms large. the other game it was very simple the brilliance of Walker Buehler. that's a name I've been talking about for quite some time and he showed you why Dave Roberts started him in game one of the division series stuff nasty six shutout innings one head strikes out eight. couple of gas by the Washington nationals in the field Harlem. Nobody really diagnose the story of how like what talk means other than i think chris color suggested it many years ago and i thought it sounded cool. People thought that means means like an ota ku combined with co which is the japanese word for young but i also recently learned that cho awesome means old in japanese so i like to think it's actually a website for talky. That'd be more unbranded at least given how i feel these days as an optical illusion of the old lady the and the young lady like kotoka is for old and young people just no one in the middle middle middle age polygon uh-huh.

"And we are back. We are here live at GD see of the game dollars conference in San Francisco. My name is Jason schreier, and I'm joined once again by Maddie Meyers. I am still here, and we are very pleased to have the one and only I guess it's fair to call you a game Dev legend, formerly of Sony and Microsoft where you worked on the PlayStation AmEx box. And now, it's your hat trick with Google Savio, the one and only stadia man, I keep doing that hires in. How are you doing great? How many times have you been called it Google stevia? That's I wanna know. I keep calling stadia as easy a, but I keep calling see via. Well, no one has done. Skew fell we have Sony questions Sony on answer questions after today's thing. The biggest question that everybody is asking is. So this thing the streaming platform that you guys have announced is very dependent on internet connection and on having a good internet connection. Order streams play them, which is good for those of us in the bay area or New York where we are. What is your solution for people who don't have great band with bandwidth caps or who don't have great internet speeds? What do they do? So we were able to test a lot of this with our project stream test late last year starting back in October. And to get ten eighty p sixty frames per second record a proximity twenty five megabits per second. In fact, we use less than that. But that's where we put our recommended limit at. But with innovations that we've made on the stream aside on the compression side since then when we launch we will be. Able to get to four K but only raised that bandwidth to about thirty megabits per second. So if you have less bandwidth will give you a less, we'll give you a low resolution, and this is up to the user, it's up to you. Yes. It's up to the us kind of in the middle of nowhere. And I have a inner connection. I say all right. I'm gonna play ten eighty thirty Francis. We of that for you in the and the background, and we will only offer up to you, the the appropriate band with for the infrastructure that you have got at. So if I have bad internet, I will get to choose, and I'll only have a few limited options. Yeah. Nothing. The great thing about the internet is that as time goes on everyone's capability rises. You know, if I think back to when I first got access to the internet like one megabit per second. Was that felt like I was breaking the world speed record. But then that has continued to innovate overtime not just because of what Google doing, but because of I ESP s. and because of competition and a lot of good things everyone benefits from that. I think that will continue to be the case and then longer term not immediately. But longer them some innovations around cellular technology. I think we'll start to to help with that. And so I think we'll start seeing five g Komen ze focus in relatively Schule. And yeah, but even then it's like data throttling is always an issue and having to worry about your your eyes Ps data caps that seems like it's going to be a consistent issue for you guys to face. Have you talked to ISP's about finding ways to deal with that? We we observe over the history of streaming technologies both from music to movies and TV is that the only piece of being really good at keeping up with the demands of the the uses and keeping up with the demands of modern streaming technologies. And there's no reason why that won't continue to innovate. One one thing that you guys did not talk about today is price. What does the service cost users and are people going to buy games, there'd be some sort of subscription? Am I gonna spend sixty dollars on whatever game to get it on my Google stadia? We chose very carefully GD is the announced point stadium because we wanted to share technology platform vision with the most important starting point journey which is the game develop. Other words, you're not telling us we're going to talk about it today via further down the road. We will talking great detail about that in the summer. Okay. In the summer e-3 in the summer in the summer..

"Welcome back to Kentucky split-screen, the only podcast. It's about kickin ass taking names and making gains kirks off today. So Matty, I convene to talk about the games. And what born and Danghan Romford as those news of the weekend. Intendo of America's presidents Harding's on the rumors swirling about Nintendo XBox falling in mile. Then we take some listener questions about anthem and games as a service followed by some off topic top ex two and Russian doll and very special. Jason's music pick of the week that is rate. Jason's. My time are let's go. We are back for another episode. Mine is Jason schreier, and I am joined by Maddie Meyers. So Hello, Maddie. And we are not joined by Kirk Hamilton who is off on jury duty. What the heck how dare he as really a disappointment and just a just a severe discipline? He was texting me a little bit about being surrounded by chairs and other co workers are like he was co workers co workers are jurors. For some reason, I this image popped in my head of a blood borne level where it's just like jury duty. Plug for now. See now, I would think of Danghan rump. The far more obvious comparison to make because are actual trials in that game. So yeah, not quite jury trials. A little it's a jury of your peers, it's a jury of who may or may not have committed the murder, it's a very different version of it. But still. Bloodborne, but we'll be the how far you endangered for. Now. I am playing through chapter three, and I have a lot of buts, MS. Let's just go ahead and dive into it. So we don't have to worry about Kirk interrupting no, finally finally we can spoil this game. So I am now I have opened up yet another floor. And now this is the floor with the physics room that has a machine that bear may not be a time machine slash air purifier. And there's an art room a bunch of hammers in it. And all of a sudden hammers are now the murder weapons. None of this major spoilers. If anybody ever wants to play this game, which I would love to have listener stoop, by the way. So and I've I'm enjoying it. But I also the more floors opened up in this game the more. I am noticing how incredibly tedious it is to check all of the rooms and see what is new in each room. And this time I was really thinking about how much like a detective I feel when. Do that and not necessarily in a good way. Because I am realizing how tedious it is to be a detective because I have to go through all of these locations and try to find on the tiny Vitas screen if something is out of place like the hammers are really small. And so I'm having to like notice where a hammer is in a room, and like rotate, the camera and find stuff and also you have to talk to every single character to see which character has a new plot point that they are going to reveal to you which in real life. You would never know that and also in this game. There's not really any way for it to indicate to you which character, you have to talk to which is an interesting way to design it, and I haven't been looking up any walk throughs or anything. But now that there's a whole other floor. I've started to get kinda tempted to just be like which rooms do I need to enter which person. Do I need to talk to a haven't done it. But I'm really hitting that level of just being like did you do that at all? When you play these games. Jason did you? Buckle down and be like, which one do I need to talk to. Well. So like with with these Japanese games, Japanese games and designers tend to love their routines and their rituals. Even when the really repetitive. Yeah. And so once you start to see whenever you're playing a Japanese game. And I'm curious listeners, you should pay attention to this next play Japanese game..

"Welcome back to Kotoka split screen. The only podcast that immediately shows you all the cool stats on that. You just picked up. It's February twenty first twenty nineteen and we're talking about polished and unpolished Tripoli video games this week. Kirk is playing far cry new Don the loot shooter that satisfies and he and Jason are also playing anthem a loot shooter that has left everyone called. Meanwhile, Jason I talk about the benefits of not using target locking in bloodborne and kingdom hearts to very similar games. And we all bond over Wayne's world memories during kirks music, the week, the Elza above has a devil. But aside for me. Welcome back to another episode of Kentucky split-screen. I'm Maddie Meyers. And I'm joined by Kirk Hamilton. Hello. Matty, nice to see you. Nice to see you too. And I'm also joined by Jason schreier. What's up Jason? Hello. Hello. Hello. Hello. Hi. It's nice to see you both after another week of playing games and other various pursuits weather experiencing weather, total high after beating martyr laguardia's this morning. So I just. Woke up going to the gym. Fighting virtually it's funny. You mentioned that because I did actually skip the gym today and just play born. I feel like blood borne while video games as we know. I like playing video games in the morning as we discussed at our live show and born is kind of a good morning game because they're little caffeinated. You're not in that, you know, late night kind of freaked out zone. It's your little fresh. Congratulations. Jason that is the hardest fight. And I'm psyched to hear more about it. I guess when we talk about Wiggins playing. Well, why don't we just right? I was thinking that we could waste. Everybody's time. With like, five minutes of preamble. But let. Knowledge ING now that it's people's time. I think that I thank you for being honest say that way. As I say wasting time. Just like a really awkward at enriching people's. People just turn on the podcast for the first five minutes. And then they turn it off and start talking radio game. So this is gonna be weird. Sorry, every because we're gonna talk about blood borne. So yeah. So for two weeks three weeks I've been trying to take on martyr areas. Every so often and just failing over and over again. And so this morning. I was just like, you know, what I keep getting him down to like a quarter health and then dying. So I'm just gonna fucking do. It this morning. I'm a morning person. I get things best done first thing in the morning. So I got him with you and picked up the PS four and just did it. And I was like. Yep. Now, he's dead. And it was just better. You know that mean that's on Twitter. That's like Sex's cool. But have you tried this? That's exactly how I felt about Marla. Guarenas? Speeding this frigging bloodborne Voss. Yeah. Couple of things. So first of all you, and I cook you watch me try to take him down a few times and fail. I think there are a lot of different strategies for beating bloodborne bosses all around the world and everybody has their own opinions on what works best, and what doesn't let me tell you how I beat him. So the way martyr lagaras works is there to phases phase one is pretty straightforward. You just go in you get hit him a couple times Dodge's attack get out. Look like, maybe can you set the stage described the the location?.
