"The day. You had barely begun at London Bridge Station when the delay announcement started pretty miserable returned to work for train. Commuters only only made worse by this morning's average fare rise of two point seven percent. That's justified hike. According to Robert Nisbet from the rail delivery group which represents train in companies where an industry like any other that's facing rising costs the staff bill for example but said he'll costs as well what we want to do is we want want to cover the day to day running cost of the railway to free up billions of pounds of investment for the public and private sector. But this is an average figure. It's still just below the rate of inflation flation and that's for the third year running but for some passengers using South Western railways. The increased prices were compounded by cancellations. The aftershock of a twenty seven day strike by the RMT union. An editorial column can't quite believe it. The reason for the latest cancellations nations is the gods who inflicted the strike have been off-duty for so long. They need to be retrained to ensure that they are properly refreshed in terms of all necessary. Surrey safety activities. The same applies to some drivers. The situation would be farcical if it were not so serious it is yet. Another reminder of the damage caused by the unions militancy regarding its misguided grievance over the role of train gods it is worth pointing out again. An experience on other lines has shown that drive only trains are safe the fact that the disruption now has to continue even longer perhaps more legitimate safety safety reasons is a bitter irony that will be of little consolation to passengers implementation of the government plan. John Fashanu Union legislation banning future rail strikes unless the union concerned has reached a minimum service agreement with the relevant rail. Company cannot come seen enough city hall editor Raw. Slider we've been talking about the fare rises for a few months now now. They've hit and nobody's happy. Are They not happy for commuters coming into London today at the regretted certainly with a seeing the season tickets going up by I. Two point seven percent two point eight percent and also those own southwestern railways the trains that come into Waterloo had the added misery of having lots of the trains not running. And this is a this culmination of what's been a very long running saiga queer the RMT guards have gone straight. Take the the actually. The strike ended last night actually at midnight. It Run for twenty seven days making it the longest streak in Yuki real history. But I'm afraid. The fakes continued. TEND TO S- morning and hundreds of trains were cancelled again because bizarrely some of these girls had been off so long on strike that they were then judged to require l. safety training to make sure they were fit to print the trains again. That cannot have gone down well with commuters Gannett. You can imagine how few days would be as as we see to the. Ns this double whammy really if you if you. You wouldn't be happy to be going back to work today on a sort of chilly January for stay back in the office. I you're paying more for your travel and then you're standing on the platform waiting for the train to come in. It doesn't come and you just think it just couldn't get any more ludicrous. Really for people no fun at toll. So do we know when things will get back to normal. Well even Woz news is that there could be more strikes on the way the RMT has not given upon this the row center in what's called driver only operation which essentially means that the drivers open and shut the doors the MTA says this is not safe which is disputed rated by the train operator on the RMT's arguing to have conductor or a guard on all trains as is the case on some lanes. Just no those no say that Stroz going to go away and anytime soon and more stake. These could be announced in the next few weeks. There is some good news on transport unspoilt in London. The mayor of London has announced a new companion packs which means for those disabled under this. Those older Londoners who need a companion to get around the city. We'll have a free companion pass and often an a companion for a disabled landed. A as as bad as having a lift having step free access and this is another example of the difference we will make should. I be returned. The Math London will city has kicked off the New Year. By essentially going into reelection moods the middle elections are coming coming up on the seventh of me and CDC as part of his sort of I sort of a Rybeck intone. He saying that he's come up with this. Hi Dear we are if you are. A Disabled Londoner underrated qualify for disabled persons freedom. Come me he will then ensure that that person the killer gets a free pass as well. But the mayor's record in improving access to tis stations isn't quite promised as it. That's right you could see. It's probably a second-class Service so far from city he has upgraded taints shoop Stations to make them stay free since he was elected. Me Twenty Sixteen. His initial promise was that more than one hundred would have converted to being state deep-freeze essentially helping lifts or ramps to make sure you can get from outside the station to onto the train Byron Means Essentially using lifts and so on the hill of others. That has not happened so there is a sense that yes this is a good idea to have the companion pass but he has actually not been delivering quite as much as he promised I initially when he was when he was first elected. Are we now at the point where we're going to be hearing a lot about relations. I think we may be. "Leadership. It's soon twenty six and the season's almost over. Lou leadership film, leadership from where. Nothing about general manager term, south. I wanna say Joe Giradi and you'll you'll say, maybe not maybe I don't know. But until the Mets bring in Madame Joe, like that. Always going to be floundering around like what they're doing now. you know to me i think they need better players i think they have to fix the bullpen i mean to me if you put a good manager in there right now he's not gonna fix that bullpen i mean you know if he can heal that bullpen then he's worth a lot more money than people think that bullpen is just godly bad it is it's it's historically baird Every night is believe every night. i mean they lead the major leagues and blown saves they need to in blown leads and blown saves they've legal legs can all those categories they're pitching is a trophyless And now tonight Vargas gets a chance, you know, with what's going on this week to be the guy who can maybe step up and do something. I saw a positive and a negative last night. From kano. Positive was an let me do a negative. I the negative was how we feel that his position last night. he really had trouble his range was extremely limited he had trouble going to his right for the for the baseball and he is i mean i was surprised at how limited his range was really was so that that i have to admit surprise me the positive was that his second of the game came in the ninth inning when they need it and then he got a lead off he was trying to work a walk he took a three one fastball and you said okay now three two and then he hits a double down the line and to me that was a big advantage thought that inning now they didn't wind up doing anything that anybody i thought that was a good at bat and even as bad as it's been the one staple that's been there has been the canot double the double has been canot staple his whole life and now he's not leading in you know he's not hitting bloop doubles he's hitting doubles because he hits the ball down the line and he hits him in the gaps he's got seventeen doubles which are which is canola like But everything else is not like in any way. Rob, and Tom Shiva. What's up? Thanks for taking my call. So impressed with. I thought it was four to this year. What he did. Today was that, that is what they mean. When they say, you know, not having the reliever I every every week impresses me more. I mean he impressed you because out have no came in and struck out the side. That's what impressed you. I mean that's. That's the that's the job I it doesn't seem like it's hard to bring him in. Mickey order talk seven. no i mean come on and and plus they blew leave i mean britain britain blue italy's the bullpen wasn't even efficient today i mean he blew lead volts the game today So, but listen, it's. i'm not knocking but it's an easy bullpen to manage you got five guys out there that can throw great it's a great bullpen i mean that's what makes the bullpen good is that it's an easy bullpen to manage you got a lot of talent out there No. I mean that's, that's really the that's really the difference. Sean in jersey. What's up, Sean? Mike. How are you? surprise they didn't call up frazier do you think there's something there's more to it and well first of all i first of all i think they wanted to see i think they weren't set i think this them by surprise so i don't think they wanted to make it change just for the london thing i don't think they probably wanna take frazier with them to london i'm talking about for the next two weeks stands out i think you'll see fraser here unless they are close to a trade for frazier which could be the case because phrase is going to come back because they're going to need them i mean so they're going to be a guy the if they need another bat he'll be the guy they bring back unless they just want caddy and they're gonna use gaudy every day and they just want a caddy in the in the outfield now but if it's going to be out say two weeks i would think they'd bring frazier up and showcase him some more all maybe they're close to trading him and we don't know maybe that maybe that's the that's the idea but i think what happened was my understanding this morning was that they thought stanton was gonna play as of this morning as they will pack in for london before the game they flip stanton gonna play saturday and sunday and even off this that there was negative the m._r._i. and that he was gonna play in london and then during the game they changed its out he wasn't gonna play so before the game it sounded like he was going to play in london on saturday so they and now i'm sure he's not making the trip or unless he wants to make because he wants to make it i don't know about that that i don't know but i think that changed a little bit but i think if he's out any length of time they would bring frazier up unless they close the trading for the weekend they don't need them i just think i think you would see him city field if they unless unless they are very close very close to trading which is this thing possibility Allen acquaintance. What's about? They should be MVP, especially trout and should he be. he won't be he he will not listen unless he has a really beefs up his stats he won't be trout for the m._v._p. i mean that's just the way it is trout's having another incredible season now get into value we can get into a what the team reckitt and all the thing the problem is with the yankees you're going to have guys i mean if you have a catch you as forty home homers or thirty eight home isn't one hundred twenty avi is it's hard to say somebody else's the m._v._p. on your team if your catcher has forty homers in one hundred twenty all the is i mean how many catches in history that do that so i mean sanchez has got as many avi is and as a bunch more home is and has a higher opie that lend the mayo nella may who is leading the major leagues and hitting runners in scoring position that's his deal but sanchez got as many the is the guy and he plays catcher so i mean again it's not that important but it's still very hard to be trout because trout's going to come up and put up outrageous numbers And unless you just dismissing trout because the angels aren't good enough. you know and then you just wonder if the other guys would cancel a mayo out because there's so many of the yankees would big stats he say well he's got fifty four hundred as well as a whole bunch of yankee's right around fifty avi is says the the catches got fifty two you know the catch has got fifty two what is have forty-seven tolerance as nineteen forty seven the is A middle infielder. having that kind of year i mean you know a big numbers voight is got seventeen homers and forty nine obvious sanchez has got an opium of nine fifty and is playing catcher and has got over twenty two twenty three homers and fifty to lobby is So I mean there's a lot of guys have big on that team. Ray in Waterbury, what's up, right? i mike what's calloway situations reminding me of the ben mcadoo situation of a couple years ago when john mayer on your show said he had a firearm in season because it was getting ugly Well, I listen, you might be you. I like I said the Mets it had been pointed out to me. as soon as i bring it up just because that's what i was told that they really didn't want to make change now they may be changed with that was before the yelling incident that was before the non apology to things that day that was before the story came out about mickey and brodie and brody you know giving orders from the couch that was before they fell six games on there and now since the incident with the writer a lot of the media is calling for his head london the fans equivalent for his head as the mets fall father and father out of first place do they give the fans immediate what they want that's the.

"Seven w ABC. Okay. We have a new year. And we get calls all the time and texts and emails so restaurants, where do we go where do we eat? And I am a big reader. Of the one only Adam Platt who's the restaurant critic for New York magazine for grub street, and who is the Adam Platt who has eaten his way across New York City and all the places I'm always happy to have him on. How are you happy new year? Adam if you knew your dome, how's it going? It's okay. We're still here. We're having its New York. What can we do? And you know, that's what we're gonna do. We're gonna we're gonna we're gonna have stuff are feeling our star. I know. And it just depends what we want. It's I always love restaurant. Translate. Get such a kick out of them. You know one day on every corner. There's a new Italian restaurant there a new version of pasta with tomatoes and basil now, it seems and you are the that everything is Asian. Well, no, I don't know. I mean a lot there's always, you know, there's always Asian influences. City like New York. I mean, if you want to be more specific there's a lot of Creon stop. Yeah. That's become big bubbling around Bobby Korean cuisine. I don't know why you don't mind I want to call it. The Queen of the moment. New York lasts for about five seconds. But there are a couple of places which have. Young could young Korean shops. You know? So so anyway, that's that would be one down there. Expensive. Dame? Yes. I love windows trendy. It's one of the places. And as you know, because you're a New Yorker the trend for a long time now in in what used to be called cuisine. Fine dining the trend is being because of the Rams because of the economics of the city. The grander fancy. More ambitious restaurants have ironically, become small, right. And they've they've they've gone to tasting menus which are easier to manage, and you could charge more go too much more space. So the city. Discreet, very expensive tasting rooms. And. The trendiest. All right now a place called paramedics. And Adam is. Of Park Avenue thirties. I think it's you. You. The neighborhood called no mad, and it's a very again. I think you know, if you've been to these places they all follow the same rich will very hushed like going to church there twelve or fifteen little feet surround for. They serve you these cocktails in champagne get you in a good, dude. The chef at the guy that. Junkie on par with the young. American. Chef you may actually just he may have been brought up and create anyway. You'd say it's a dissertation on and he's crooked. Lot of fancy restaurants around town. And the meal, although it's expensive and very refined. You take it for tation. Sort of the. Texture murders and techniques of creating cuisine which involves from. And I can tell you fascinated. However, if you don't want to spend, whatever it is two hundred bucks or more. This little bar. Up up up on the top level, which is a very nice neighborhood bar serving the kind of cream influence food Alicarte, which you and I. As New Yorkers are familiar with most notably possibly some of the best fried, spicy chicken wings with the city stuff of rice. That sounds good. Chicken wings. You did good. You know, the Korean thing. My kid one of them lives in California. And you know, they all love food. But he calls me the other day very excited. He was having a lot of people over during the holidays, and he was making Korean brisket. I said what what's that? But what it is? He said a delicious and Kim, she coleslaw. So there you go. There you go. This is folks do some change probably cook, certainly New York Korean-American. Small Fukuda bar open legendary heredity somewhat legend into thanks the internet. But you know, had a. Had a lot of influence and that that kind of food special team, and that's a Korean specialty. Haunches be simmer. Spicy pods flavorful. Mommy, plays seventy. Yeah. Good thing. And there are a lot of good things. Also, we have a prolific a veracious of of fairly new Chinese restaurants. He used to be we have to go to flushing to get really good Chinese food. Changing. Well, you know. Yes. I think I mean, we talked about Chinese food before. And. I think we've talked about this. But there's a new generation of. Young. Chinese restaurant tours and cokes who didn't really from from China. And they're attracted to New York for a lot of reasons that come here to go to college. Various reasons. Classic Chinese food difficult. We New Yorkers grew up in ten different provinces like Sichuan needs food or. It's an approximation of of those leans, right? You're American approximation, which is never liked the real thing. Day come here. They go. Listen. This is about like the real thing. They're also coming from from China, which is undergoing. Other going. Great economic renaissance whenever you have an hour, granite thoughts. You're gonna also have a culinary rid of. So there's all sorts of you know. Fad revolution. That it. Exciting stuff going on in China itself. And a lot of what's happened. These old regional? Silos regional styles of been using together breaking down. So you have restaurants for the first time. He's happened. Since the sixties when you have this influx of cooks coming out of. Really by way of thought. What would you? Anyway. And so they are all sorts of interesting things we talked about. My favorite Chinese restaurant called Madame Joe's how noodle not Madam Joe restaurant tour from. Sichuan, but she has restaurants a big team at Shanghai. That's a that's a great little restaurant. Little on the west village on six avenue. She has opened a second restaurant close meatpacking district out fourteenth street. Casual how's it going? But I think it's doing okay, I like. But my favorite of these new restaurants. Is a weirdly named restaurant in the east village. And a lot of these places are popping up in the east village. What's that called listen place who down? Hunan's slurp was is was open again by the guy from Hunan. Gardens. Not putting this is not what I grew up with. And so he's opened a small over it quit stylish restaurant at communal tables. And the specialty of the house called me, which is rice noodles that are popular in southern south western China as opposed to the weekdays noodles which regions to which. Elsewhere. It's a big bowl of rice noodles. Mixed with all kinds of fires sauce. Fraud or sounds delicious of stuff that you would encounter in a market food market in one of the cities around along with a lot of quite other delicious. Fish buried in pepper. David delicious gifts while people stopped after this which is. All these smoked meat cold smoked style. Which are popular not just in China. But especially anything on. Yeah. You know, and it's not expensive. And so. So a lot of young. Kids from from Hunan when you go feasting that which sounds great. You know, we have a piece I think it was from grub street when you were talking about restaurants on the upper east side, and in those neighborhoods, even Upper West Parise. There are so many restaurants headed sorta clubby that you have to be part of the whatever to get a good table, but especially up near. Yeah. But you mentioned a restaurant that even though it's gotten a lot of reviews has been sort of under the radar hard to get our table because it's small the Simone on eighty second street. It's sort of so civilized you like I like it because. Equal these folks. It's very pleasant. I have the crazy person who doesn't object to noise in restaurants. I like the feeling of everyone having a good time. And to me eating out is like theater, you know, in addition to food, I just like to feel our stuff going on this among is different. In a weird way most old fashioned traditional, dining neighbors. Yeah. Right. You have people have lived there for a long time. We'd like to go to their rightful place in right? They wanna fly. Thoughts. You have little played. Have the fancy down. Joe? And they almost function as as as any. Restaurant. Ultimately doesn't New York as joint right then because you have these. Upper east siders don't sort of adventurous, but they're not fatty right to patronize he places again. And again, they tend to have cats so they can support the variety of acquaintances restaurants Simone is very classic old fashioned French food, which is going out of fashion somewhat. Right. But very well. Done. We're well done. Very nice wine. Least a couple who run it. The husband and wife. He cooks, she's FRANZ, Ron. They still have a linen tablecloths, of course, of cable, which is we're, but they still do it more power to them because obviously those linen tablecloths costs money to salon and. And you know, I like, no, I don't like noise fan. I don't mind it at all. My husband hates it. So for him. The smallest like this perfect place because you can talk the portions are big the drinks are good, French, whatever and Tokay. You get what you used to another work. And I still love is. Because I think they have the best chicken scarpie, L and New York. Why people what's the what's the knock on Elliott? Tell me why look as I. Been there a few times of years. And I always right. It's got good for regular up around there. Right. Yeah. I hear people saying I can't because I put this. Right now. But three number three God forbid people were. I like it. Play it. Anyway. Avenue. Eighty four hundred restaurants towards all this gentleman. It used to be any lanes Quattro Leany. Anyway. Very popular classic old Italian restaurant gaining from the seventies. Right. That you walk in there. And it's crowded in a bar tender to think no you say, Mr. flat, right, welcome. They didn't say that to me. The venue has changed ever accept optically. He's got more and more expensive. But of course, it's this kind of. Play again. In the neighborhood. I'm doing joy again yet. Plaque for the. It's a little clubby. But on the other hand, there are a lot of young people crowding at the bar this Tom Salik who eats. They're like at six o'clock at night to avoid that. I'm telling you. He's like a regular good. I would be too. And if you like those issues like you were saying chicken scarpie allies, really delicious. All the buttery thoughts. Bills much cost you forty or fifty bucks. It's ridiculous. But it's fair. They're pretty good, and you reveal too, and then we'll leave the upper east side about a place that my when I first came to New York, I started going to Donahue's a bar that again looks like if you didn't know it just like any VAR. And yet it's got some of the most celebrated names in New York. Make out their dining room. What's wrong with done nothing? It's good. Listen. Literally on a on a crowded avenue. I think sixteen it's official naming cloud. Little owning could fish does the little TV up above the far for cancer. Look like recovering alcoholics. Right back in there, the clause and full regular again inside and. I mean the birth. Good mistakes are not bad. But today's takes us back. Now, not the way we used to think they were great. They're not gonna they're not great anymore. But very good cheese. Burger. Can get these weird old-fashioned dishes. Grilled liver. That again, nothing's changed over comforting. Right. It's very old. Our? On that list. People think it's their place again designed to upset people. So I think I think it put down ahead of George origins restaurants. Yeah. Which is interesting. I thought you did good because people who ate there really love it. That's the place that was the place. I think what a famous art dealer when he passed away his favorite waitress person there. The final for fifty thousand dollars was unreal. Let me come on. I know well said the steak is in that good updates. Okay. It's the same people. I think he would go there. Yeah. That's a great New York store. Now, it is. And and New York is full of restaurants and stories with thankfully, we have an implant of New York magazine in grub street to take us by the hand. So before I let you go two thousand nineteen anything that you think is really worth getting in your car taking the train or the bus coming to New York City. Let's forget price for the moment. I I I direct. The listeners to a new feature that we developed over months of slaving, which is a list of top. Sounds in restaurants. So you can go to grocery top thousand type in anything. Everything is also we switched from the star system of judging things to eight miracle. Yeah. That's interesting. I know you don't don't like it. But that's okay. I don't dislike it it's gonna have to get used to it. Anyway, this is all the stuff. That's all. They're all restaurants are talking about. You can look people. People. The new thing. If you want to be I guess if you to be. We're talking about Chinese. You're part of some sort of wave and you're gonna train train balanced meals from two thousand eighteen but I understand new branch of the restaurant called mission shining. Yeah, I'm you know, what I haven't been to that one. Tell me Bushwick. That's why I haven't been. Chef again in America Boeing. Came from San Francisco Oakland restaurant downtown Chinese Red carpet. Us out colonizing, Bushwick. And you know. Expose very. For coal. Crowd-pleasing? So if you wanna get a sense of, you know, dynamic. Donald there in Brooklyn. And have it make it a bit of adventure?
