"Thinner in the W J R newsroom. Shows Guy, our neighbor south of the border in Ohio. The polls have closed their they were supposed to close in North Carolina. But because of some late precincts opening that voting has been extended to North Carolina, the other big battleground. Until about 8 15. We don't expect any kind of hard results coming out Until then. North Carolina again, one of those states where there has been ah, plethora of absentee ballots, but they were able to start counting them on September 29th. The polls close here in the state of Michigan in about 24 minutes. And we will be watching all of that. We will be checking in with the Macomb County clerk Fred Miller. In just a moment. The turnout Macomb County so critical for Donald Trump, especially if he wants to offset the increasingly blue county. To the west in Oakland County. He must outperform what he did in Macomb County. Back in 2016, which was so important to his path to victory here in the state of Michigan thus far. Fox News. Our partners at Fox News have called Virginia for Biden, Vermont for Biden, West Virginia for Trump and Kentucky. For Trump right now in Florida, with 66% of the vote in there is a one point gap with Joe Biden in the leaves around 50.3% at this point S o. We are watching that very carefully again. And in Miami Dade, it looks like President Trump is doing a little bit better than he did in 2016, but other counties. He's underperforming, which is why you see him trailing there, and we will stay on that. And do we have Ah, Well, we had a little problem with a single. He'll call back and we'll check in with Fred Miller again As we've been watching the The Macomb County numbers were so important in and in 2016 for Donald Trump. They remain important now, but we have seen a surge in first time voters there. Fred Miller joins us live from Macomb County clerk's office where he is watching the vote. Be tally different, Really good to have you with us, Gordon. Thanks for having me give me a sense of turnout. And if there are any specific geographic areas that so maybe a bigger surge than others. Well, at this point, we're kind of here. An anecdotal evidence of Ah, really good turnout at the polls. You know, we we still have about 20 more minutes left for people to Ah, vote And of course anybody was in line. I'll be allowed to Ah to Ah cast their ballot. But you know the real story of this election to real stories number one. I'm so proud today that report that no major incidents everybody was safe. We had a calm election. Here We are in the midst of a pandemic in rial, hotly contested race, and people really behave themselves and acted like Americans, and that's something we should all be really proud of. But here Macomb County we saw 310,000 absentee ballots being issued over 90% return about 280,000 Compare that to four years ago when we had 121,000 absentee ballots cast, So we're doubling creeping up on tripling. That number just shows that, you know, number one the impact of proposal three that allows for sure the vote by mail. But also the keen interest in this election. So it's it's really exciting to see people access their democracy just to set the table here in 2012 President Obama won Macomb County by four points. President Trump one by 12 in 2016. You had a 67% turnout Macomb County four years ago. What do you think you're going to end up are in recent memory. It was 2008. That was the highest turnout from Macomb County about 69.4%. You know, I am for what? We're here. We're here in different stories. And and nothing is really, um certain. I think that we will definitely approach that, if not surpass it, But it's really great to see all the different ways that people are voting in person on Election day and an absentee. You know, we've been really condition here by the secretary of State to believe that maybe we won't have an outcome here until Friday. But I'm hearing from some suburban clerks that the pre processing of the ballots that began yesterday morning. The opening of the A V s was very helpful. How helpful was it to you? And where are you in processing Those 280,000. A V s that have been returned. So unlike our neighbors in Oakland and Mick and Dwayne in Macomb, we don't have a consolidated absentee counting board so that initial tabulation is left up to all the local cities and townships, clerks on their team's Teo to do so where we know that they're working furiously throughout the day. And we expect it's going to take a long time. Like we talked about what those numbers guys. It's a huge increase. The good news is we've been planning for this for months. We have a great team of clerks, Republicans, Democrats, independents across Macomb County and their teams who are working hard. It's going to take some time. We ask people to give clerks from space of and be patient because we're going to follow the law. We're going to make sure every vote is counted and just keep charging through tonight into tomorrow morning, and we'll get those election. Unofficial results of a soon as we can assess far is you know Fred Miller? Do we have any legitimate challenges in the counting areas throughout your county? None that I know that I've heard of. No, it sounds like everything's been going smoothly and methodically, But look, look as the numbers show it's It's a huge spike in the Valium. So it's just a matter of of, you know, feeding those ballots through the high speed tabulate er's and and just the mechanics of how quickly that can be done, and You want to do it carefully and methodically, so that nothing gets inadvertently screwed up on DSO. That's a process that that will probably you know it'll trickle in over the next couple hours. Smaller communities will get it in quicker. Larger communities, Obviously, with a bigger volume will have more, but we'll start to get those precinct level results of the Election day results. Those will start trickling in. Probably in the next hour. Alright. Fred Miller, Decatur with a question for you. Hi, Fred. This is Dick. Hey, Finner. You know, we need to point out that Fred Miller is on the ballot to and Fred Miller's running for reelection. He is a Democrat..
President Trump set to hold three rallies in Michigan
"Trump and former vice President Biden are competing for votes in swing states of the Midwest. The campaigns have planned a Siri's of stops in Michigan. Democratic governor, Gretchen Whitmer has accused Trump of stoking acts of hate, like the recent foil plot to kidnap her W deities, Quinn Klinefelter reports. President holds an airport rally in Oakland County today, his second time in Michigan this week. He's also scheduled to hit Sterling Heights and swing Macomb County Sunday before campaigning Monday in conservative Grand Rapids. That's where Trump held his final rally in 2016, an event that helped him win Michigan by just under 11,000 votes, his narrowest margin of victory and route to the White House. "President Biden ahead in key swing states, including Michigan, which put him over the top in 2016. From New York. Welcome to the second hour of Bloomberg balance of power. I'm David Weston vice President Mike Pence and Senator Kamala Harris clashed on major policy issues last night as the Trump campaign fights to come back from a deficit in the polls, including in key swing states like Michigan. Welcome now one of the congressmen from that state he is and 11 he's a Democrat. And he comes from the key swing state of Michigan. So, Congressman Thank you so much for being back with us. Give us your sense of where this campaign is in the state of Michigan right now. Well, David I'm not only for Michigan, but I represent Macomb County, which is the biggest swing county in the in the country in a battleground state Biggest county right twice. Obama and then for Trump and Wi I. I feel like Macomb County in the state of Michigan are gonna vote for Joe Biden because The mismanagement of the cove in crisis and the trouble in manufacturing has just been too great and people here vote on bread and butter and their basic security and they're gonna vote. So as I recall become County, which is, I think, probably Dicky ST Kate County in the States or like Maricopa in Arizona. McComb went for President Trump last time, did it not By 50,000 votes. David McComb County didn't just go for Trump. Last time, Macomb County has voted with the statewide winner of the race for governor and president. Seven straight times and 17 of the last 20 going back 40 years. So this is what you gotta win if you wanna win mission, so that means it's your prediction is it's going to come out differently in Macomb kind of this time. And is it the handling the covert 19, which we heard a lot about last night by special debate? Is it that voters there feel that President Trump did not deliver on those manufacturing jobs, which are all important? Yeah, I think it's exactly a combination of those two. So people you know, the natural Detroit including McComb in Oakland County, which I represent Super hard hit by Cove it early on. And then our governor has taken a very strong stance and brought matters quite a bit more under control. And the president has trashed Governor Wittmer over and over and so that I don't think works for him politically. And then we were in a mini manufacturing recession before covert, even hit, and then we've lost a lot more jobs. Even the trade deficit with China in August last way, have you? No data for was the biggest in many years, so his trade war with China hasn't worked. We've got auto plants in my district that have closed forever under his watch. And he just hasn't delivered for the working class of no Cone County, Oakland County in this country. So, Congressman you mentioned Governor Wittmer, your governor in Michigan and I have to ask about this. I have to say bizarre story now that there's six people charged in a plot to kidnap Mission. Governor Wittner. What do you know about that? Yes. Well, I just know what was in the news reports. David and it's very, very troubling. That report is that Of people of this Michigan militia, six men plotted to kidnap her and take her over state lines into rural Wisconsin. And hold her hostage and try her, you know, and I just have to say That way when you have vitriol coming from the highest Places in the land. It matters. Words matter. Calling people names matters little ing women in General Onda governor like that matters. And so I hope we get back to a much more unified, much more dignified politics in this country. I think Joe Biden's really, You know a person to do that, based on his whole life experience. And it's troubling. It's super troubling idea that people are talking about kidnapping. You know, Governor Yeah, I should say, finally, Congressman. I'd be remiss if I didn't ask you about this stimulus bill. I just talked to the Spirit House Nancy Pelosi a short time ago about where this stands, and she said that she's working on it. But she's not sure the Republicans are moving forward. This is part of what she had to say. We're legislating. That means we're writing.

Candace Miller, Macomb County Public Works commissioner, former Republican congresswoman, former Michigan secretary of state all time always all round good person on the other end of our line right now I'm a member of the Candace Miller Fan club have been Sunset Inn owner Nice to have you here, Commissioner. Hey, Paul W could be on what your takes. And so this was your business as well. What's your take on your view of the Democratic National Convention of the Republican National Convention? Well, I gotta tell you choose. I didn't watch the shame on you. I know I should have, and I'm sort of a junkie for those things, but I thought I can't take it for sure You would have watched it, But I understand the can take it because now, as I think about it, it was so dark. In such a bad view of what America is and should be. It was a little disheartening. And Congressman Tim Walberg kind of put his finger on that. You watch the Republican and I don't know yet. If you have what I'm assuming you had, you would feel good about America. You see the naturalization of five people who love America so much they want to even go through the process to become official. Americans. You watch the about freedom. Freedom opportunity, right? Yeah, That's what it is. You wouldn't know that from much of the institutional media. With what such a bad place this is, but Be that as it may You know, I have to tell you watching in the last couple of nights here, and I didn't watch all of it the first night, But I really have life watching all of his family members. I mean, what Remarkable American family, Donald Trump Trump Jr the first night then Tiffany and Eric and then Melania Trump. I don't know how she remains so calm. She always looks so elegant. She's been, I think such a gracious first lady Justice. And got no credit at all. In fact, without that, the fabulous opening video that they ran, we wouldn't have known about so many of the things Important things good things that she's been involved with his first lady because they don't give her that coverage. They want to just play the idea that she's frankly she's exactly what the Democrats and liberals would be totally against the idea that just because she's beautiful, she's a beautiful, dumb blonde. They don't except that except it's okay when it's the first lady of a Republican president. Well, you know, I'd listen to her speaking about Children like you say then that video showed so many of the things she's been involved with, and mothers and I thought she showed so much compassion about this terrible pandemic that we're all in. And you know, I have a very Paul W. I always think that you can tell a lot about a man by the woman that he married. Like you, my dear. Okay like you. You know what you know, for sure is that I'm very lucky. And I guess I kind of what you're saying to is that Donald is very lucky. But this The the way it's been portrayed by the late night comedians in such is that she's Ah prisoner and she's trying to escape from Donald Trump. And they feel sorry for Can I get away? That wasn't on display for one iota last night. I mean, you know, it's It's hard to say that she is just a beautiful woman, obviously, but I mean, I think inside and out inside as well, she just And she's such a She's brilliant, You know, you hear all this stuff she speak various languages and Denver etcetera and her story anyway, I thought that was all a highlight. And you know, conventions really are always about the future. Right? So how did one party you America like we talked and our future versus the other party. And so there's always sort of a breakout as well. I could tell you what. When I saw that Daniel Cameron speaking last night, the attorney general of Kentucky, African American, Wow. Keep an eye on that guy that you know, I didn't went to the national stage. I just went to the national stage. I did not see all of it. I saw bits and pieces of it. They were speaking about it. In glowing terms, so it must have been a Fox news. It couldn't have been CNN and in glowing terms and saying They were remembering when Barack Obama burst onto the national stage. I looked at that I thought, Oh, my gosh, I remember watching Obama. I think that was the four years that convention before he ran for president. I thought Who is this guy? He is going somewhere. I mean, written all over him, and I felt that same thing last night with Daniel camera. And so I think that you know, there's always that. But you know these conventions is the party's trying to solidify their base, and then they have to try to appeal to the undecided, although I don't know how many people are undecided. I can hardly imagine there's many undecideds anymore. It's really unusual. I think they're started. I think you could have the vote right now. I don't think there'll be much change. And it's interesting because I kind of think that last night could have Changed some minds, but I'm not. I really don't believe that the people Who maybe had their mind changed to go for Trump were even watching because they've already made up their mind. They already think they know from the the narrative given to them every day by the institutional media. They've already decided that Donald Trump is his horrible man. With a wife who's trapped in the marriage with spoiled kids that are stupid and any number of other of the messages that have been put out there time and time and time again. And with this absentee voting or mail, voting or call or whatever it is, they don't go in exercise their right to a vote the day of the election. Ah, lot of things and decisions have already been made and are starting to be mailed in. So almost no matter what happens for either candidate, it may not matter as much. If it doesn't happen in the next week, or two B, That is well, it's going to be expedited that the whole election process because of the Malin is expedited by, I'd say three weeks about three weeks. One thing that I do think is sort of unique about this election. Here. We are talking about what you're talking about Trump or binding. I think more than any time I can never remember. What's unique about it is that it's as much about Kamala Harris as VP as it is about Joe Biden on the Democratic side because I think it's generally I thought that she certainly would be his successor if he's elected, But you know, very high likelihood that she ends up being the president during that first term Somehow, I mean, the guy's struggling a bit right. Just be honest about it, so people are really looking at her, You know, she stands up and talked about. She wants sanctuary cities and You know, I mean, if you're a second Amendment person, you're not going to be interested in her candidacy, or, you know, health care for illegal aliens and all these kinds of things, and I don't know, I tell you sitting here in Macomb County..

Worth one point, four, billion in potential revenue, which is good news. Apparently, this company has attracted the interest of investors here, which is pretty interesting. So San, what do you know about the truck? Well, there's still a lot. We don't know that we've seen plenty of it. Fairly modern looking truck looks a little bit like Riviera, truck has. Has, fancy led lighting going along the body. There's still no real specks. There are in Wheel Electric Motors, it'll start at fifty, two, thousand, five, hundred dollars. That's before the seventy five, hundred dollar federal tax credit for vs here's what Steve Burns the company's founder and CEO said in a video accompanying the news this morning, it is the first electric full-size pickup truck to come to market It has zero missions, its all electric. Although, there's a pandemic people are still using public transportation and they're planning for the future over at smart. That's the suburban bus system here in metro-detroit among a slew of possible changes. One that caught my eye was allergic extension of service for the Fast Woodward bus. The line has quickly become a flagship helping drive increased ridership numbers, pre pandemic, and providing a reliable spine to what's been a moribund underfunded public. Public. Transportation System here. This new change would take the fast Woodward bus all the way from downtown Detroit to Great Lakes. Crossing Auburn Hills. Also adding stop at a Meyer out that way. There'd be two additional stops in downtown Detroit as well. Including one right out front of Comerica Park some planning and public meetings still need to take place for this to go into effect and you can find out all. To and I get it, but I don't have to. So I'm not going to, although I saw I got a push alert from the New York Times on my phone. I think yesterday talking about why riding the subway right now during the pandemic is actually a lot less risky than you might believe and I haven't had a chance to read it. "The pictures you know we have a ride. Along one of our reporters was out there. He got very brief ride in the new mock E. and You know you can see that. It's all very forward looking very futuristic futuristic. I think it looks cool. Yes some of the feedback online that I have seen include that you know. It's it's definitely different. Look to a degree for for the Mustang brand to not be just A. It's not just a car per se. It's more of a crossover right. Yes so that is probably like the big point of controversy for this. Is that Ford. Put the Mustang name. this crossover vehicle I actually don't think the electric occasion part of it is all that that controversial. I think it's frankly a natural step to make the Mustang Electric. I think we're seeing. The future is going to go electric in most segments concern. I think frankly you know I think making a electric mustangs brilliant move you got a ton of performance and power out of that You sort of future proof it if you will in some ways I think some of the controversies come. From the fact that this is more of a crossover a crossover if you look at it it's You know got that sort of silhouette the wet The stance is a little bit different than Traditional sports cars sports coupe like the Mustang But it also has a lot of mustangs styling cues and you know especially if you look at the the headlights. The Hood. The tail lights So I think I think basically what they're trying to do is take their strongest name. which is Mustang? It's like conic it's been around for decades really resonates with consumers with Buddhist and put it on Perhaps one of the most important vehicles going forward which is an all electric Crossover so I think they're just going all in on this It's risky but it's a very aggressive play and it could really pay off. Do you have any kind of like background on the infrastructure for these kinds of things. Because I know that there's like charging that that works in that tends to be a concern for folks of like. Where are they going to top off this thing? I know there's varieties on on range but it is kind of. I believe it is comparable comparable to the test as far as rain. But what about access to charging basically topping this thing up yeah So there's a wide variety of ranges actually all the way from two hundred ten miles to three hundred to even more than that depending on what size You know battery options you take or if you want all wheel drive rear wheel drive so once you kind of figure that out then you would sort of sketch out. How are we going to use this? You know your Mustang Machi And there's two different kinds of chargers as you can get. There's a home charter. which would you know? Certainly if you're going to buy a vehicle like this. You probably very seriously look at getting a home charger. I I think that's a very logical practical thing to do. There's also a mobile charger. which you could also purchase so that would sort of maybe alleviate some some of the Ranging Ziobro a little bit if you could get somewhere where you can set up your mobile charger And you know a lot of that is to come this vehicle isn't going to be You know available until late twenty twenty so I think there's going to be a lot more As we get closer to the launch as far far as Ford plans for it infrastructure and really just setting up the rule out of the Machi and just first impressions for you. Then how do you think this is going to stand up in in the big electric car. Debate is is something that Ford really should be able to hang their hat on. Yeah I think so. I think As far as making this watcher car I think this is a really strong move. I think if you kind of look at the landscape and say hey. The future is electric and consumers consumers like crossovers. What's our best name Mustang? Okay let's roll with it. I mean to be this is taking all of your strongest elements and looking at the competitive appealed. It just going for it. I think I think that's a great play I think Ford is probably going to run into is running into some distance from its hardcore hardcore Mustang Bass reading some comments on our site and you know some of the tone from some of the other maybe more enthusiast sites. There's a little bit of. I'd say mental calibration calibration. is they try to sort of bigger these new elements of the Mustang But I do think once you get past that and I think that's actually very like vocal vocal minority. Perhaps if car people. I think once you get past that having electric Mustang is a very compelling thing it's a sort of thing that if this was just called like something generic like the Ford you know the Ford something like a green kind of ten for the name before the week you in order to steal like a Nissan name or something like that. It might struggle to cut through the clutter but now you've got a name universally known by all kinds of consumers and you had the element of what Trysofi and you make it Fairly you know practical. It's a crossover that's going to give people who are maybe crushed shopping Tesla's or some of the other electric offerings from Jaguar. And Audi and take a look at this 'cause this could fit their needs. And then you like I said You roll in the Mustang Element and people are like. Oh that's cool. It's not just generic electric crossover. It's also a Mustang so I think it's a risky play but I think the payoff is is very. Hi potentially very high. Well Greg. Grade schools ban Uber Eats, GrubHub deliveries during school day
"Of packing lunches, many high school students now pack their cell phones ordering food delivered to their school with apps liked grub hub door dash and Uber eats the deliveries have become so frequent and disruptive that many schools have banned them. Pat Watson is the principal at west Bloomfield high school in west Bloomfield Township Michigan he said, quote, it was getting to the point where you'd have eight ten fifteen deliveries a day. It's a building policy. You can't have food delivered during the school day unquote, other schools have done the same thing. School officials have addressed the issue in states from California to Florida. Diane Blaine is spokeswoman for Chippewa valley schools in Macomb County Michigan which is north of Detroit. She said, quote, we view it as a safety concern. Having strangers and people that we don't know coming to our buildings with delivery bags. We just don't allow it. I'm quote, Blaine said, the district's Dakota high school band the practice about three years ago, and it's other high school Chippewa valley followed suit some schools have policies explicitly prohibiting it others frown on it. But don't formally van. It all them say the practice has exploded with cell phone use. And the proliferation of delivery services, high school students are the only ones who order food deliveries to school. That's according to Jeff huger assistant manager of the jets pizza about a mile north of west Bloomfield high. He said that some students in elementary school. We'll have pizza delivered for lunch. I mean, it sure beats a carton of milk in some cafeteria pizza. Huger said, quote, the parents will call and say my kids lunches at noon, can you deliver a pizza to the office and maybe throw in a bottle of water, unquote. Looser good. They're staying hydrated. Parents typically pay what the credit card or through the jets app on their phone. The delivery driver will bring plates. Napkins if requested. Jets charges three dollars and fifty cents for delivery compared with four dollars for grub hub. He said that his pizza places across the street from a middle school and a prep school. In addition to two nearby elementary schools. He said all of them are good for business. He also mentioned that teachers are known to order pie for lunches. Well, that's what I was going to say is going to say the ban on this seems like it would hurt teachers more than students whose poor teachers. They just want to have pizza delivered to their teachers lounge. But now now students of even ruined that for them. Poor things they work really hard to wouldn't it be nice for them to just be able to do not have to run out and drive somewhere. Go through the drive thru not all the schools in the same area addressed the delivery issue in the same manner. The Plymouth canton school district just northeast of an Arbor Michigan, which operates three high schools in one location does not have a formal policy about food deliveries. But the building procedures don't allow it said spokesman, Nick, Brandon he said that the main reason for the ban of school safety, but there are other reasons as well Brennan said quote, the second that food enters the school office. It becomes the school offices responsibility, unquote. He added that it created concerns of food safety foodborne illnesses and allergic reactions. He said, quote, it's also overclouded issue for office personnel. If they're having to manage multiple food orders at a given lunchtime. With all the other things they have to be responsible for that's a concern as well on quilt. Brandon said that the district works hard to provide healthy good tasting food and. Cafeterias and students are always free to Brown bag it the principal at west Bloomfield said deliveries aren't always on time. Tardy deliveries made for tardy students. Watson said, quote, it's supposed to be here at twelve and my lunches done at twelve thirty now shows up at twelve thirty five so no I haven't gotten to class. But now, I've got my Panara, and I go to class to eat in their unquote Watson's at teachers object to kids eating class. But the students would complain it wasn't their fault that the delivery was late Watson also has heard plenty of excuses for why an order was placed. What's instead quilt kids say, oh, my mom forgot to put money on my lunch account. He said that one student claimed a cousin ordered it for him not knowing it wasn't allowed Watson said that claims seemed doubtful when the delivery driver knew the student's name. The school does allow deliveries to school after class end so students staying after school for a sport or other extracurricular activity can order all they want. He said what's said, quote, when I was in high school, we knew to pack two lunches one for lunch and one for after school, I guess the new normal as you whip out your cell phone and order some food unquote cell phones have become so pervasive in high schools that Watson has used them to his own advantage. When he wanted to remind kids of the no food orders during school hours policy. He sent it out in a tweet just goes to show that if your parents really love you they'd take you to Pinera the night before. Give you
