"So what what are the liberal saying about how they're going to pay for these promises. Unsurprisingly they all cost cost a lot of money. So there's about seventy eight billion dollars worth of fresh spending here on on top of already existing spending. So are they proposing any new revenue streams while they're looking to to tax the rich more to help cover these costs which is a sort of popular idea on the left and centre-left of course they're they're targeting some of the most profitable banks and insurance companies. They promised to hike the corporate income tax rate from fifteen percent to eighteen percent on all bank and insurance earnings over a billion dollars liberals also say they'll create a minimum tax rule ensuring that top. Earners those who make more than two hundred sixteen thousand dollars pay at least fifteen percent each year regardless of the tax deductions and write offs. That they get to enjoy and the spring budget also included luxury taxes on cars and boats and planes. So i'm sorry jamie your days of living the high life in your private plane and speed boat could could potentially be getting more expensive. I just wanna be clear here. There is no promise from the liberals to balance the budget by xia. Correct correct That's not a. That's not a point that they bring up anymore. I mean there was something in two thousand fifteen about doing that. And now it's just It's gone so before we move onto the conservatives. I i just wanted to know that the liberals have been in power for six years now so i wonder if there's anything you think people should keep in mind as they consider this platform. Yeah well one thing that i think is certainly got a lot less attention This time around is. Is there pharma care plan. They have promised universal pharma care And it's not as if liberals haven't been working on it it's a it's a complicated issue that requires negotiations with the provinces. But actually i should say that before the election. The government did sign a deal with prince edward island to help cover some prescription costs. Their platform mentions that. We've been there specifically to lower the cost of prescription drugs for canadians over the past number of years and we will continue to make sure nobody in this country has to choose between paying for groceries are paying for the medications that keeps them safe and healthy. But it's definitely fair to say that far mackerras is not the huge feature of this platform that it was in the in two thousand nineteen with the focus really seemingly having shifted to to their child care plan which i say is again is there. Is there big ticket item. This time right right. I i guess that also serves as a reminder.

"Okay and then a studied them for seven thousand hours over eight years each anything for science and during that time period they would occasionally recapture them for closer health. Examinations sorta like an annual checkup with the doctor does. And what did they find well. At the end of the eight years when dr mackerras looked back on all of their yearly health checkups. She found that out of the eighty to slow lawrence's twenty percent or around sixteen of them had fresh open flight mark. How and some of those bite marks. You don't even wanna know you're right. I really don't think. I wanna know you can spare me the details. Okay fine i'll tell you some of the bite wounds. Were so bad that the venom caused the slow loris to lose years toes. Other body parts said. I did not need the details. The researchers also found that the males were bitten more often than the females. Well that's interesting. And how do we know. These bites weren't the result of another predator like a snake or and rangan oh so according to the researchers only one slow loris during this whole eight year time period was lost to a predator and that predator was a feral dog so if the slow loris weren't fighting off predators yup they were fighting off each other. The researchers concluded that slow loris is are extremely territorial especially when there's not enough of the thing they want. So if another slow loris treads on the wrong turf or competes for the wrong mate. Well i guess that's when the venomous things come out and the slow loris is used that venom to settle their arguments. Pretty extreme way to get what you want. So what about when one slow loris wants another slow loris is anybody being boosie because i'm seeing another slow loris creeping in on the first one we saw and he's got his eyes on that toy. You shot that argument back home between grandma jeep or thomas. Fingerling was bad. Wait till you see what happens when these two go at it. Okay well the first little lawrence is raising is cute little arms above his cute little head. Yeah what what he does next. Hey with his arms above his head he's now licking is cute little armpits. We'll it might look like. He's just licking his cute little armpits but what he's really doing is looking his cute little venomous oil secreting glands on his upper arms and how he seems to be looking as cute little teeth. Oh yeah he's coding those razor-sharp things nine teeth..

"Right before or right after it on making effective choices. Because that's what we're really talking about. So those two are critical for people that really want to go deeper into these issues. A couple of things. I'd like to say in response. I you talked about you. Know having tribe and support is more important than the the drinking or the smoking. If you look at sean tribal societies such as western prices research and many others. I have in my library when when they looked in when robert major general robert macaire was sent by the british military to find out who the healthiest people were in the world. Because in the second world at the beginning of the second world war fifty one percent of all recruits coming in to the war effort. We're rejected for reasons of medical disability or malnutrition so the british government saw it as a national security threat and they put their head physician. Major general robert mackerras and on the project of identifying who the healthiest people in the world and researching them scientifically to decide. How would we feed soldiers. And how do we inform the public so that we're not in a security threat. One of the tribes that he studied and ultimately determined was the healthiest was the huzzah of northern india. And what one of the things he identified was that there was men a hundred and ten years of age with multiple wives. Still faring children. Working hard in the fields every day many of these people had smoked all their lives and had no indication of disease whatsoever. The point i'm making is if you have four doctors then your body can absorb cigarettes if they're not toxic cigarettes. Obviously people grow their own tobacco. You can enjoy some alcohol. You can have a fun life without it being a threat. The other thing is is that one of the problems in our culture is that we have a lot of corporate religion but we have very little spiritual awareness and i define spirituality as connecting to a greater whole so a lot of mothers for example. Don't even have time to go out in their garden and b barefoot. Because they don't make time to do so if you connect to your garden you've connected to a greater whole when you connect to your friends you've connected to a greater whole.

"For the falcons that we can actually get a really good feel for because everything else if you're if let's say this upfront if you're freaking out about the offense don't it's the preseason it and honestly with the defense you may be feeling really good about the defense and with good reason it is different. It's fun but again nothing that you saw in that. Preseason game predictor or as an accurate predictor for let's go happened regular season except maybe special teams so that is again why. I think we started with that. So any last thoughts on what are special teams units. Did we did see young. Miss a long field goal but not the end of the world. I think and i discussed. He's his accuracy. Once you start getting into the fifty fifty three yard. Yeah it's changing fall off. Yeah yeah and and you know it's kind of been masked over because of obviously going to the pro bowl and have an onside kick talent that he does But yeah when if you're expecting him to make up fifty five yarder or something. It's a no brainer. Like don't end as not the case ending writer. He's not that type of kicker. But you know. I think it is interesting. That as it's been mentioned before cameras iliac or whatever is He was a placeholder for two when to win. Perfect fourteen fourteen in. As twenty nineteen So you know. They're familiar with each other. Maybe that helps play into cameron making the as a starting punter because as you know the team loves a good story anyway so that's a good one. Oh absolutely is and coup is for better for worse. Inside of fifty. He's very good And i think you even last year. I think out of the fifty plus range. He did fairly well. But i think he's had some shaky kicks there. He obviously missed the long one on friday. I'm not. I'm not freaking out about it. But i think that You've mentioned it before. And i think it's a valid point. I think that's just not who he is going to be. You know he's not brian in that regard So we should keep that much All right let's talk about the offense so yeah so first of all Arthur smith had a rookie tight end. Cal pits dress out. It looked like competence was going to get into the game and then he essentially sat on the sidelines. So we did not get the cow pits. We saw almost primarily backups except for one player and that one player who was not a backup who's legitimate starter was left guard. Josh anders and i was mentioning earlier on twitter. It's all that we can talk about in the comic writers chat because josh andrews against a bunch of backups. Was god awful at that left guard. Spotlight noticeably the whole line was bad but like andrews was bad enough to stand out in a bad line and obviously going up against backups. You would hope that one of your future starters Is going to be better than that. So i think there. If you're looking for an immediate take away at least for me. It's the falcons probably needs to look beyond josh andrews to shore up that guard position because he did not look good at all Am i off base with that. Evan do you feel like that's probably One of the more alarming things about an offense that looked like garbage. Yeah no i think anybody who wants the game definitely agree um in. I think he was getting more the focus anyways from fans watching it because knowing he potentially the starter there left guard. the rest of them are depth. So wasn't i mean unless you're really into the willie reverse Stop and he. He struggled just like everybody else With andrews it could be one of those things where he's better when he surrounded better talent That's actually thing. So i don't know One game i'm not gonna go ahead and write everyone else but yeah that definitely was not start where you come away on. Yeah this guy should be are left guard okay. Well let's see what else we can do there but you know maybe give him one more chance but yeah that leaves a bad taste in your mouth and that's fair you're right you know. We should give it more than one game but if we see anything similar because more than likely the next preseason game The falcons will probably have their starters out there. I would expect for no more than like two or three series mayday four series at most depending on how things go if he is to your point. If he's with the starters and he looks better it could be a very valid point that he's just someone that has to be surrounded by better talent for for him to lay well Which is not the other world but also outside sorry to cut you off go ahead go say you know. And also arthur smith is lynn. Like literally was an offensive guard at. Unc coached offensive lineman. So it's not like we have a defensive coordinator trying to figure this out like e should be able to figure out who he wants there And we'll see going forward but definitely have an offensive line binded coach Making the decisions whether they end up bringing somebody else or they give him another shot. Maybe maybe he was on purpose to see how he does with the backups. I don't know and honestly this is one of those things where a lot of times in the preseason and the coaches admit that they do this and this is something to keep them on. They put their players in the position to be in one on one and they want to see how they hold up. Even though in game situations it may never come down to that But they wanted to know how these guys can you know. Hold up One on one against a defensive tackle Defensive end and this is something where it could just simply beat it. He doesn't accelerate situations. I think we'll have a better feel next week Again i do think. We'll probably see the starters out there for a very brief period of time. But we should see them and if he's out there at left guard as our starting left guard it will be our best Indication of where he probably stands. And whether or not the falcons new to replace him but he is a name sort of my red list right. now we're going to certainly pay attention to him Now the quarterbacks know matt ryan didn't even dress which was no shock and in fact no meaningful starter on their side of the ball actually dressed for this game And we we ended up getting a half of aj mccarron first. Half in the second half was fully bay. Franks i for one have not. I've i've been harping on. How boring mackerras is a quarterback. He he doesn't have a very big arm. He's sort of a generic quarterback that you would know what you're getting with him. Yes yeah. I mean like you know. His ceiling is yes and he's hit that like right now. He is a marginal backup at best in in the nfl. He is a journeyman backup. That is it. And that's why he's why he was available that's why he's here I actually think if you have between him. And matt shaw. It's not even close like shaab is would be leaps and bounds better than aj mccarron but franks at least has some potential some upside. So what are your thoughts on what you saw from the to. Qb's again with the caveat that sorta like everyone around them was sort of terrible. So it's hard to really get a a solid assessment of either of these guys. Yeah that's the important. A the offensive line was awful for both of them Franks obviously has more mobility and he displayed that on that huge Fifty two yard run But yeah if offensive of lines broken down both of these guys you know are naturally gonna struggle but mccarron made some bad throws one of which went for an interception There's actually two. But i think it was like it was pass interference or something In franks a you know. He went to for nine. But i would say like three or four. Those passes were literally just dropped draw He was pretty accurate for the most part I would definitely give the leg up to franks in this battle. Mccarron just did not look good at all. Even you take away the offensive line was it was bad for both in. Yeah i i just..

They won 30 games that your they were a one seed. Ah, you know, everyone just expected movie back in the final four again, and they won their first three games handily. And then they ran into a Utah team. This was before Utah joined the Pac 12, of course, and, uh, they had beaten. Arizona beat Utah earlier in the season and done it handle it. And then Ah, and I've gotta backtrack here a little bit. I was a Man of the Seattle SuperSonics. I grew up in the Northwest and then when they were in Seattle, that was my MBA team. And, of course, so one of their coaches over the years was George Karl and so obviously became kind of one of my favorite coaches will That changed and I mean that Sincerely. I mean, that's somewhat kiddingly here can is that wreck Mackerras was coaching Utah was very good friends with George Karl and the story is and I don't know this for a fact. I understand that After Utah and Arizona had one there. Ah, ah, sweet 16 games and they were ready to face off for a chance to go to the final four that Rick matures called George Carlin said. Not play in Arizona. You know, they beat us handily earlier this season. You got any suggestions? And George tells Rick put a box and one on him that there's no way that you know they'll be ready for that. And so the majority, install the box and one defense in one day and unveiled that against Arizona and the Wildkits were never able to figure it out. And Utah won the game and went on to the final point. I again I don't know. If that's entirely true story, that's just one that's kind of floated around noon time. It's probably been embellished a little bit can, but to me, I thought that was probably the toughest one simply because I thought Arizona was the best team in the nation that here I think they had all the talented and could have defended their title. But it comes down to one game and comes down to match testing and luck in that it didn't work out their own idea. Yeah, I know down when you're the tie one of the top seeds everybody's always gunning for you. You know, there were some of those times where Arizona was one of the top dogs and was taken out early. And you remember those as well, So sometimes it's great to be with a powerful program. But you know, you're always being hunted, You know? You mean that's just that's just the way it is Your You see some of these teams that you know the Steve Nash lid, Santa Clara Broncos and some of these teams that are able to rise up to occasion and it's just a memorable victory for them. They don't have that run, where they have five final fours like coach Olsen had in his career there at U of A but they have that one victory and sometimes that's AH, game where your call in the game and you're walking away. You're packing your stuff up at the end, and as a broadcaster you going like What the hell just happened. I know that. That's why the basketball tournament is in my mind. You know the greatest three weeks in sports because anything can happen like that, and fans are always rooting for the underdog. And if you're in one of those arenas when I was neutral sites, and you've got Ah 14 or 15, seed and And they've got a chance to knock off. A high CD of the fans are going to get behind the underdog, because that's what they want to see that the Cinderella store, it happens here and you're out. And of course, we missed that this last spring, and so it's like I said, it's It's very difficult. To win a national championship in college basketball field by back in 1988, Arizona, went to the final four for the first time in school history, played in Kansas City and lost the semifinal game there. Can I? I did not buy a single souvenir when I was there, Okay? Because in my mind, I thought, Okay, Well, I'll just get someone we're here next year. Little Did I realise that? No, you just don't go to the final four. Every year. It doesn't work that way. I mean, there's just so much that goes into it. And so it's Ah, and I've seen enough of them. And you described it well, that It's It's the toughest three weeks in sports. It can't be the most exciting But when you're a high CDE yet everybody's coming after you and and you cannot be over confident. You've gotta bring that a game if you want any chance of surviving That's great. Great point. I mean, Dan Marino first year in the league goes to the Super Bowl. Never gets back there said the same thing, said, I thought we were going to be there every year after that first year, and Itjust doesn't just doesn't work out there. Was there a time when maybe you looked and said, Now the team's not so good this year. You know, I I I'm only going to pack clothes. We're going to be out of here by the weekend that maybe you had to extend your trip a little bit somewhere in a tournament where he maybe had to go out and buy some new threads. Oh, sure. Yeah, absolutely. And you know, it's it's in an embarrassing story, and it took me years to admit to coach Olsen that it happened, but it was actually 1997. No. Arizona had gone down to Memphis, and actually, they beat South Alabama in their first game, trailed by double digits in the second half. And I thought, Oh, this is going to be a short lived stay rally to win the game in the beat, Uh, College of Charleston. And they advanced on to face Kansas in Birmingham, Alabama, the next week. Well, that was Kansas was rated number one in the nation. I mean, Roy Williams at a power, they only had lost one game. And they were the odds on favorite to win it all that year on And so when we packed to go to Birmingham, I took one shirt and one tie and and one pair of underwear and one pair of socks. And said, Yeah, we'll be back. I mean, there's will be back in Tucson, and there's no way we could be Kansas. Come on. And so, yeah, And then, of course, the you know the upset happened and I'm scrambling around Birmingham, trying to find a department store on a Friday toe. We'll find another shirt that fits me and I thought I'd better get another tie. Because Coach will notice if I'm wearing the same time. You know it was you that absolutely happened. I learned my lesson. Never did that again. But it was It was a pleasurable. I can't forget how much money I had to spend that day. But I was just buying with it in the end. Brian, Where did you broadcast before you of a Because you know the horror stories for me and some of the smaller venues and some like the division to U Know, U. C Riverside was a great story. The first year I called their games 1995. They go all the way to the national championship game against Bruce Pearl in Southern Indiana. Down in Louisville was kind of bizarre, but I remember you know, I was it. I was the guy that basically had to set up everything. And I remember getting the Cal State Dominguez Hills over in Carson, California. And I get there and I've got you know the the phone line and everything in it. And the car, the coupler and the commerce, everything and all of a sudden I'm there and I'm like, Okay, So where is the table? You guys? Oh, yeah. You know that. Don't worry. That'll be all set up within a half hour and then this massive Jim, but there's no no phone, Jack, and I'm like, well Where is there? A phone Jack. Somewhere close by is it could be under the tape. He goes. Oh, no, no, no, but But there's one older and he points..

"Recovering in the area. And if you're travelling on Bart, still good news there no problems to report. Everything's fine will be back on Monday. Now let's see what's going on Carol. Good talk. It is Chris Marilyn for Armstrong and getting Busy. Busy hour here, my friends. We'll talk about defunding the Po Po. I'll be joined by the attorney general from the state of Utah. The Great State of Utah. Shun raise joins us here. Ah, coming up in a little over 10 minutes, So we're excited to have Sean on as well and then The cannon, Karen's and Karen's going wild. My favorite thing to come out of 2020. So far. Favorite aspect of 2020 is the Karen culture. Oh, just It is so fantastic because there doesn't seem to be any shortage of people acting absurdly, who tend to fit into this category that is being affectionately called Karen, So we'll talk more about that coming up this hour as well, Starting with the funding the police. What is that? Even me? It's a good question. What is the fund? The police I mean, And sadly. It seems that if you were to ask any two people who are pro testing on the streets and asked them what does that mean to fund the police? They probably would not have the same answer. They wouldn't They wouldn't answer that the same way. So how in the world can you have any sort of Any sort of conversation is gonna lead to any sort of reform. If you can't even agree on what your message is to start with. This is where I have send this all along. I've said this for the last couple of months, and that is that the protests are disjointed. And there's a There's a good and it's good and bad, and I'll tell you why it's good in bed. Contrary to popular belief by some people in the Internets. Disjointed protest does not mean that you've got a well funded organized protests, well funded. Organized protests have their acts together. Nobody's funding something that's just completely willy nilly. They want to have a message. They they have a purpose. They have a goal in mind. That's the nature of organized. Anything's all right. If you're a member of an organization, that organization has a goal, and they work toward that goal. So I think when we start seeing the villain protests And I keep hearing about how antifreeze in the middle of the Senate chief was driving and all this other so there is no organization. There is nothing here that would lead us to believe that there is a centralized mindset. Seems to me a lot of angst and anger and people say we want change, But the message gets completely deluded after that, Alright that Is indicative of an unorganized. Grassroots organic movement. The problem, however, well that well while having an unorganized grassroots organic movement is indicative of a group of people who demand some sort of change, and they can agree that things are not status quo is not OK what it does, however. Is, it leads us into this. Sort of quandary of now What What do you want from it? I don't really know the answer that I don't know. Just go. Ah, Something's bad. No. There have been people along the way that have tried to identify what we want. What are those demands? If they can't agree. They can't agree on what that might be. In fact, I was here from from CNN. And I know a lot of you hate CNN. But here this is great. Does defunding the police mean disbanding the police? According to Phillip McCarron said a doctoral candidate in sociology at Yale says it depends on whom you ask. He's also a lead research in policy associate for the community resource hub for safety and accountability. So he's the kind of expert that Rand Polders wanna listen to. Some supporters of divestment want to reallocate some, but not all funds away from police departments to social services and reduce the contact with the public. Sure it is the likelihood of police violence. Those seeking to disband police considered to funding an initial step for creating an entirely different model of community lead public safety. The concept exists on a spectrum The two aren't economist but interconnected, both interpretation Center on reimagining what police safety looks like shifting resources away from law enforcement toward community resource is it also means dismantling the idea that police are public stewards meant to protect communities. Many black Americans and other people of color don't feel protected by the police, according to Mackerras, So What does it mean? Hyung. I got a word salad from a doctoral candidate, and it sounds like some people want to completely disband police forces we know and come up with a totally new system. Of public safety. Community lead public safety. What is that going to look like? Because I'll tell you I have a lot more trust in somebody that's gone through a police academy. Right. They've gone through the police academy. They've received some iota of training. I trust that person long before I trust Willard on a golf cart. Right. If we're talking about community, lead, public safety and that turns into the same kind of community lead public safety like the guy was in forcing my way. Willard isn't protecting us. Willard is not going to make the community better. And Wheeler lets the power go to his head. You see the new Geico commercial, incidentally, about the people that come through cutting off the mailbox because it was two inches too high. That's the H away people. So is that community lead public safety. I don't know. I'm willing to take a look at other systems. Don't get me wrong. I'm certainly willing to take a look at other systems. Don't throw out the baby with the bathwater. That makes sense. I don't want to say Well, it's not perfect, so We throw it all out. Let's start from scratch. Okay? What does that perfect system look like? How do we head toward a more perfect system. It's not gonna be perfect, but how do we get Closer to our idea of perfection when it comes to policing. And I, and I'm really concerned that We have a lot of people saying defund or disband the police, and I think there's a difference between de funding and disbanding. We've a lot of people are screaming this They don't really know what What that's going to mean instead. I want to know what that looks like instead. One guy that may have an idea on this is a law and order gentlemen by the name of Sean raise. He is the attorney general of the Great State of Utah. And he joins us next to talk about What does that even mean to funding the police? It's Chris Marilyn for Armstrong and getting Strong talk Radio 5 60 Meet Chuck. Now.
