"Always a thousand twitter followers already in twenty twenty one. That's tough growing. An account on twitter is the most difficult place to grow and account. If you like who cares you thousand no big deal. You've got forty thousand talk. Two hundred forty two thousand. That's right speaking of sports as i mentioned last week. Speaking of sports again as i mentioned last week on patriots dot com slash. Ross bolan podcast in my column that supporters of the show. In our enforcer or og to your may have read. I do not have a fantasy football team this year. My first fantasy lists seasons. Since i was fifteen years old and to shawn watson blocked me and the entire texans franchises embarrassment so for the first time maybe ever in my life college football is somehow more exciting to me than the nfl. Even though i don't have a team it's more enjoyable without all the dread and the shame and second hand embarrassment So over the weekend i fully dug in. I rode notre dame minus seven. I was one of many. Who was reminded that mackenzie milton is a person at all. And i lost that bet and i didn't even care because watching this dude. Mackenzie milton come out was insane. So for those of you who didn't watch the game or haven't heard this story yet mckinsey milton. It was a tiny white dude on florida state. That was a top ten heisman candidate in two thousand eighteen and then he had a a horrible injury like his exploded his leg. Yes he played for. Ucf and was playing. I believe in the bowl game in tampa and literally his leg. This is like way worse than the dak injury or like one of the worst leg injuries in football history. Alex smith equivalent. Yes and he hasn't played football since Like his leg died on the field it was it was over. He returned to football for the first time since that injury in two thousand eighteen on saturday or sunday whenever the game was there was weird schedule this weekend because of the long holiday But one of the doctors that worked on him said that he would never walk in without a pretty severe pain after probably in. This dude is slang and get out there on the field. Like just one of the coolest most inspiring sports stories. I've heard in a minute. Like i was sitting there watching him. The first possession. He drove down the field and scored a touchdown. And i was thinking about. What is it about this moment. That i would have missed when i was a little kid. And it's the amount of work that went into him. Getting back there that i would never understood as a child that like now. I'm looking at it. And the reason i'm like you know my hair stand up on my arm is because i know this dude worked. I three years to give back for this one moment where everybody in. The stadium is holding their breath the entire drive because he's getting drilled every play because he's like five six or something or at least that's what he looks like out there it looks more than drew brees and it just. It's just amazing. The he didn't just say fuck this. I'm gonna go to student or a normal college career and find a job right. Yeah he he was still on. Ucf and eventually you heat this whole time. He was like. I'm going to get back into coaching. Staff like yeah. We're not gonna plan for that. You try in the mackenzie 'cause the doctors were like. That's yeah that's probably not going to have. Yeah and he kept trying eventually the. Ucf okay. yeah you're like. We're going with this guy. I dylan gabriel. Still and so. He transferred to fsu and the coaches. Hey we're not guaranteeing you spot because you being idiot again. He was back at this point. He's still recovering. It could have gone back out. There got hit once and been like. Oh this didn't work out. I think mackenzie number one. I've been watching it for years and my brother is an insane. Ucf fan oh. Dan rea gesture close. Friend of mine says true diluted. Ucf and i've been forced to watch mackenzie play for years. He's so good like if he was. He is a one of those quarterbacks. You get we're like oh he's only good because he's in the aac's in power six commerce or a group of six whatever five whatever the fuck whatever it is now. He's in a shit leak essentially and now. He is a phenomenal quarterback. And i hope that they go with him over this other dude because like what a story man you could hear it in. I could feel it in the stadium and you could see in his teammates. It was it was it was wild and then oh by the way. The seminoles covered as was him. Good teams win. Great teams cover. They fucked me. And i lost money but good for them but the commentators came close to making me ride the full roller coaster from like i mean literally was rooting against my own money and for mckinsey milton during that the first drive and then fifteen minutes later they had the commentators had soured the entire story to the point that i was like hoping this medical miracle gets trucks ticked. Because they wouldn't shut up. It was bad it would. And i know it's a crazy story. It's really cool. But the way that they overdid it like the sort of the amount of theatrics that i got. It made it to where people watching like okay. Are they exaggerating well. How much this kid had to do to combat like. That's how sort of over the top they made. It feel like they didn't do a great job of delivering it in a way that the audience would nearly understand to the point that it got annoying for me the call him a medical miracle. Yeah which even if he is like come on guys. It's a football game. Yeah people are. You know there's people who are like real world issues going on here like i hate that about sports. It's one thing that kind of weird me out like. We pretended sort of the end. All be all in. When we're in the midst of it like with the commentating. Everything and and i get it. I get it. It's supposed to be a distraction that helps us with the realities the harsh realities of the world. But like i. It's one of the things. I loved about the demonstrations that that started in the nfl that caused so much backlash because it was like. What the fuck do we act like. This is removed from everything else. It's not directly connected. We should be embracing that like sports. And life are very much intertwined in our society and everything that we have gone so ross watches. ted lhasa. One time assoc talking about politics and sports i'm I'm like halfway through season. I guess. I'm you're caught up. Primary four episodes three four episodes in a season to.

"Him a stock up. I thought the best college football story of the weekend was Mackenzie Milton, who a few years back suffered that gruesome, devastating, just awful injury. And it was life threatening right? Very similar to Alex Smith when you look back at it, and it's amazing that Mackenzie Milton his back on a football field at the time, he was a part of the UCF program, one of the face of the UCF program now at Florida State. He got an opportunity. To get back in the game up against Notre Dame on Sunday night, and he did a wonderful job and that was a a a really good football game to watch between Notre Dame. And also F. S U Milton let a touchdown drive and then let a field goal drive to go tie up the game. Unfortunately, Florida State loses in overtime. Notre Dame survives And then Brian Kelly talked about executions after the game. But anyway, the Mackenzie Milton story I was watching that and all of Twitter, right? Twitter never agrees on anything Everyone was saying. What an awesome moment. This is. I can't believe this guy's back on a football field. And then you saw the Shot of his family and his mother and we had those nerves. I was holding my breath every time he got hit, or he slid. Imagine what his mother was going through. It was just awesome. It was just wonderful to see him doing what he loves. Once again. Probably. He was told he'd never be able to return to the football field than he did so the other night, So give Mackenzie Milton a stock up. Ren, heavily. How about what he was able to do for Presbyterian over the weekend? The former Michigan quarterback, he said, an FCS TD passing record and the season opener. He had 10 passing touchdowns. His team won 84 to 43. Over ST Andrews on Saturday. Give Rent heavily a stock up..

"54 now Wdbo Scott. And as with you, Brian killed me coming up after the news at nine. Here on Wdbo. I must admit I was very torn this past Sunday night watching efs. You and Notre Dame play football in the opener. I've been a huge Notre Dame fan as long as I can remember, since I was yea high, But when former U. C F quarterback Mackenzie Milton went into the game Graph pass you in the fourth quarter. I was like man, like I gotta root for this kid. I I I got a room from a Canada and how can you not? I mean, here we are. What 2.5 years, Three seasons after nearly losing his leg in a game at USF, he was back. And he almost let fs you back from 18 down F as she would lose the game in overtime. But if it's not for Mackenzie Milton that that game is is not even close. What a performance by Mackenzie Milton and I think he gave a lift to that entire F s u team to that entire stadium and perhaps even two The nation because the last time we saw this kid Joe on the football field that was over at Raymond James Stadium three seasons ago, when he was writhing in pain. And he would. After that you experience hours upon hours of surgery with with the surgeons trying to save his leg just so that perhaps maybe in the future he could walk again. And here he is playing football again. It really is an amazing story. Mackenzie milk? Yeah, it's it's incredible to just see where he's come from in. He's just got that. In fact, there, man. I mean, watching that the highlights of that game like He was the big reason they got back to that game. No doubt that's the first play he's in. He throws a 20 yard pass receiver right on the dot right in his chest. Right in the hands like it was. It was fun to watch. Just wanted to see him back on the field. And he's the better quarterback of the two. I believe I I hope he gets to play a lot more than I think he should be the starter going forward honestly, like he just he showed that he still has it. Yeah, yeah, The Notre Dame won the game, but Mackenzie Milton stole the night. Alright, It's 8 56 Now Wdbo one. Oh 73 FM and am.

"We had a great holiday weekend. I must admit I was torn this past Sunday night watching FS You and Notre Dame play football. Been a huge Notre Dame fan ever since I was yea high. So obviously I was written for my Irish on on Sunday night. But when former UCF quarterback Mackenzie Milton went into the game for F S u in the fourth quarter, I found myself rooting for KZ. And the entire nation was really I mean, when you take a look at it. What an unbelievable story. How can you not root for Mackenzie Milton about 2.5 years after nearly losing his leg? And, uh, you CF game at USF Mackenzie was back. Almost led fs You back to victory was four of his first for passing. Let f ask you to a touchdown. He was terrific, but more than that he gave the entire F s U team. Uh, the entire Doak Campbell Stadium and really the entire nation. An emotional lift. I mean, he was a kid again. His his leg injury was so terrible. That his doctor from Tampa showed up at that game on Sunday night just to witness it, like the doctor couldn't believe it. All the doctor wanted to do and by the way, they were a team of doctors working on Mackenzie Milton that day in Tampa 2.5 years ago, but all they wanted to do was try to save the leg and hope. And hope on down the line that Mackenzie would be able to walk again. He's playing football. For FS you against the University of Notre Dame on opening night. It's just It's an amazing story. It really a Hollywood couldn't have even scripted this story. But what an incredible night for Mackenzie Milton and he's such a great kid. I wish him nothing but the best from here on out. Um, it was obvious to me at torrents. I know you watch the game. It was obvious to me who the better quarterback was of the two. It was Mackenzie Milton. But I think that coach Mike Norville wants to protect him from himself. He was He was, at times moving gingerly out there. And you, You don't know you don't want to be as a head Coach. You don't want to be responsible for something else happening to this kid. But He was the better quarterback of the two and the way you saw that line. That line was very porous throughout the game, And when you've got a quarterback like you said that you're still you want to protect. That's not necessarily. Maybe you don't want to have them start. I mean, I think he sees the potential. Certainly if you didn't before he does now. But it is interesting with all the leg talk that it ended up coming down to a leg. The leg of the kicker who is the field goal, right right this into another. Well, it's interesting because the F s U kicker. After the whistle had blown, kicked a 50 yard field goal and went through the uprights. And then they Isom for about five minutes. He comes back and Mrs Wide left from what, like 38 yards or something like that, so but look, F s U loses the game. I think they're going to be a lot better this year A and B. McKenzie. Milton is back, and it's just it's It's such a heartwarming story. You know, we're talking about that. That horrific story down in Polk County. This is the opposite way. Right. This is, um This is just an amazing story. This kid was going to lose his leg. I mean, multiple. He was in surgery. Multiple multiple hours. You've talked before about many divisive stories and sports. This is what great great story. That I think everybody could rally behind. What this guy's done what he's overcome. Yeah, it was interesting. Seeing after the game, all the Notre Dame players going up to Mackenzie Milton and hugging him. I mean, they they don't know him from Adam, obviously, but they know his story, and it's just It's an incredible story, and we wish him nothing but the best this year. "Courtney where I don't care if you're Florida State fan or not, when he comes into the game with a chance to win everybody's in Florida State fan because you're rooting for him. And it really changed. I think the vibe of the game it seemed like Notre Dame had everything in control. I think they were up by 17 at one point, and then Florida State gets the momentum back Mackenzie Milton comes into the game, and that in and of itself is a miracle for him to put them in a position to win that game. That was just remarkable to see and that's what college football is all about Those comeback stories Uh, those bounce back moments and there were none more special than what we witnessed with Mackenzie Milton last night. Mhm, and that was such an unbelievable game, too. I don't feel like anybody would have gone to class for a whole week at Florida State won that game against Notre Dame, but just being able to witness his story, and we've seen it documented for years now, um, these comeback stories from like, you know. There are a lot of catastrophic leg injuries that maybe just I don't know. Like it kind of feels like from like Teddy Bridgewater to Mackenzie Milton. In all these situations that may be just because of the day and age that we're in right now. It feels like we see more of these. Or maybe they're just more documented. But the comeback is just like, unbelievable because this is a situation where he nearly lost his leg. Remember watching like an SC featured about it and just kind of that, that ambulance ride that he had and kind of the realization that This is not. That's not only just like the end of your football career, at least what he thought at the time, um, that it could be, you know, losing a body part, But I mean, what an incredible comeback for Makenzie Melton in such a great story, um, highly emotional, uh, to be able to watch him take the field yet again and this time for for a different team. It's It's just remarkable. Um Really, really cool story and excited to see him continue. "For your Next advantage While college football week one wasn't all touchdowns and upsets, um, my alma mater, the Indiana Hoosiers somehow came out. As one of the blunders of week one. And it wasn't just because they got trounced at Iowa. Um there was a jersey of one player that was misspelled instead of Indiana. I n d I A N a It was spelled in Denia and I don't know how this happens because it wasn't like the whole slate of jerseys, all 80 or whatever for all your scholarship players. Um, got misspelled, but it's a situation where the photos circulated, and now it's kind of the laughing joke. Even head coach Tom Allen comes out today and, like takes his hat kind of looks at it like today, is it that I want to make sure it's spelled correctly? Um So, Yeah, that was that was a fun one after, uh, not so great game in week one for the Hoosiers who enter this season with some pretty pretty high expectations. Did you? Did you happen to see that? Like, I don't know how they caught that? Nobody really mentioned in the game. It was just, you know, more of an afterthought. Listen, I know how that happens, Courtney. That is the intern who doesn't want to admit he made a mistake. So we just slides the jersey and hope nobody notices and then the guy puts it on and he's sort of like, Oh, man, what happened right? Because I don't know how you go through the jerseys because you're looking at all the jerseys and my question is like When did he see his jersey? And when did he notice? Did he notice that Nothing was wrong? Uh, that was one of the funniest things I saw this weekend. For sure. Yes. So that one, um Cash. I just I just don't know how I want to get that jersey and frame it. If that player um it is willing to come sell me that Jersey, which you know, it's just just a fun little blunder. It's kind of like when growing up. One of my friends had a Ken Griffey jersey, but it was actually misspelled Ger fee. There's no I and so we used it like I always used to joke with him like Hey, Where's the girl features here? You can like where the school today And became a collector's item. I think it's hanging in his man cave somewhere. It's Spain and fits here on ESPN Radio, the ESPN app Sirius XM Channel 80. Okay, so one thing that was not funny and just rather grow, so I'm watching. The end of the Florida state Notre Dame game last night, took a break and was looking at the ESPN app on my phone, and there was some of these featured videos, and one of them was something so offensive that I couldn't even make it through two seconds of watching it, and it was The Duke's Male Bowl, which was a game at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, where the Panthers play between Clemson and Georgia. There's video of a fan That game day, dousing himself in Mayo like, you know, And look, I know some people love this stuff. Bills. Fans end up doing this stuff every single year. Ketchup and mayo got ketchup and mustard guy. Then jumping on tables. That's great. I have a visceral reaction. Whenever I see mayonnaise. It is top five Most cringe e things I I could ever imagine dousing myself in and just crunchy. I would never eat it. I'm scared of it. It's absolutely disgusting. Um so yeah, I I saw that video. And I know that college football has some fanfare. And, you know people do things. Maybe when they're not exactly sober at college football, tailgates, this crossed the line for me. This was not acceptable whatsoever. I just I mean, I'm having like goose bumps in like the worst way like I feel like I'm going to projectile vomit here on air. Sorry for the TME, But the Mayo is just disgusting. I just can't get over it. I just want to know what the next like 12 hours were like for those people who were I don't munching on may. Oh oh, my, And then And then the dude who ported all over himself like my thought was like okay? Maybe that's what I'm talking about. That grows. You get on TV for 30 seconds. Like, what do you smell? Like? By halftime, You know, like, what is male dude smelling like, Does he leave it? Go take a shower. Is he just hanging out with his friends like he didn't pour mail all over himself. Either way, man. I just don't understand why you would do something like that Would Mayo of all things That was that was gross. That was really Yeah, That's that's the video that was referring to. I know there's been people who have, like eating it. And like everything else close to absolutely disgusting. Um Yeah, uh, do better college football Like I understand that gets the Duke's male ball and like they give people like for the bowl game last year, they would send people from Wisconsin. These jars of mayonnaise like the winning team, remember, like Wisconsin, like broke the rose ball or they broke the trophy and the higher the Duke's Mayo people thought it was absolutely hilarious. So like they like, um Have, like some play on that, But, yeah, absolutely disgusting. But, um, I mean, called fans are gonna fan, right? Yeah. One thing that actually, you know, it's pretty cool, though. That came out of week one. That I know that we can all appreciate a really good come back story was Mackenzie Milton, who started his career down at UCF and suffered a horrendous leg injury a few years ago to the point where we didn't know if he was going to be able to play again. Um and then to watch him go into the game last night. Um, you know, it was absolutely incredible. Just being able to see that situation 34 months removed from an injury, which he almost had to have his leg. Amputated. Um, you know, he came off the bench like he hadn't missed any time and like I know that that sounds kind of cliche, but watching him go five for 7 48 yards to lead Florida State back from that 10 point deficit. Um, when it wasn't even a situation where he was in the quarter, other quarterback didn't get pulled because a bad play. I believe his helmet came off. So I mean, that's why Mackenzie Milton had to go into the game and to be prepared like that, and to play like that. You know, in a nationally televised game where the Seminoles were that close, and, you know, help force overtime, which is an unbelievable week, one storyline that I know that we're still talking about here. Yeah, if you haven't had a chance, go read Andrea Edelson, who has done a remarkable job of documenting Mackenzie mountains, entire story and everything that he went through and everything that he endured. She's done some incredible work with him. And it was one of those moments..

No. 9 Notre Dame Escapes With OT Victory Over Florida State
"Florida state. Are they better. They have to be better. They're down thirty twenty. They hang in there. George travis quarterback in a weird way they got back in this game running the football because notre dame stayed with a three down linemen formation and then florida states. Like this is what you're giving us. We're just gonna keep taking. It kept running the football down. But mackenzie milton if you remember him at. Ucf to top ten heisman finishes had played a game since november. Two thousand eighteen. He gets back in. It was the story of this game. A starts i think five or five numbers actually could have been a little bit better than that and they tie this game up and send it to overtime for state missed the kick at home. So notre dame's probably gonna pretty get no one's gonna care for state might be better. It's kind of one of those momentum losses when you've been down as florida state but you have the expectations that you should have when you're in tallahassee. But i'm not sure and again notre dame no one's gonna care because the playoff losses.

"Gray area and way too much colour and they need to start pulling back some of that and get some more black and white and clarity when it comes to some of the rules, But that's my own soapbox. I don't know if you can ice your own kicker in this scenario. It was going to be a 50 yard kick. In my opinion, Florida state then made the correct challenge. Gain 17 yards for an easier kick. Sometimes you do nicer kicker. He dismissed To me. Your job as the head coach is to put your team in the best possible scenario. If there's a situation at the end of the game that you feel you could gain 17 yards by having the officials look at it. Then you either have them. Look at it now. We could debate whether or not that decision should have been made earlier. Because if you remember Florida State goes out there he does kick the ball for the 50 yard. It goes through the uprights. They then go back and challenge the play. So if the argument is that Florida state needs to make that challenge almost immediately. And not even let their kicker get out there in that situation, I'll listen to it. I do think there is some time that has to go from all right. The play happens alive. You then need your people in the booth. Whoever you trust to then ring down to you. Hey, challenge that. I don't think that's a fumble. I don't know if that's a seamless, instantaneous process. The way it is for us on television, because we're watching it. In so many different angles and in real time. But I don't think you can I short kicker in that scenario. Think you realize that there was an advantage to be gained You were right in your assessment. And the college kid missed. Which stinks. It's unfortunate. It may have cost you the game. But that's life. It was a fun one, though. From Florida State, going down the field to the story of Mackenzie Milton. To the drop from Notre Dame at the end of the fourth quarter that would have put them in field goal range. It was a lot happening the last 15 minutes a real time in that game, and I thought that was clearly the best game of the weekend. There were some good games this week. I thought last night Florida state, Notre Dame was by far and away the best game of the slate..

"Jason fits hanging out with Jay will and we're joined now by ESPN College football analyst Trevor Manage on the Goodyear Hotline. Trevor, Man, I I I love the way you breakdown films. So when you go back, and when you're watching Georgia take on Clemson, particularly. We've talked so much about the matchup, but really, what was the difference in Georgia's ability to get after Clemson's quarterback? It was the pass Rush. Georgia has astonishingly good defensive lineman in the middle, led by Jordan Davis £340 Monster who should be the NFL right now to push the middle of the pocket back into the face of the quarterback, and then they've got outside linebackers that have just Blistering speed the club around the corner of that combination with something that the Clemson past protection was not able to deal with. Well and and with that being said, I mean, how does cleansing quickly correct? Can Clem's incorrect that Well, yeah, they won't face the pass rush like this again for the rest of the regular seats, so that would make it easier for the offensive wanted to come together, but also they really need a lot better performance. Out of the quarterback and receivers because there were opportunities that were there that they could have moved the ball that they didn't hit. And part of it, I think was that quarterback DJ Yongle l. A played like a guy who was wrapped Now, most of the problems of the Clinton defense were caused by great She's a Clemson offense were caused by Great Georgia defense. But there were a number of unforced errors that really made a big difference in the game. By were younger L. A On one of them early in the game. They were backed up deep in their own territory, and he was sacked. And it looked at first glance like the pocket just collapsed. Well, no. They were rushing three men. Georgia was three. And well before any problems began to occur in the pocket were younger, Li like, didn't like what he saw downfield, So we bought time by drifting to his left. He ended up drifting all the way over to where his left tackle was having a pretty good block on a very good pass rusher and basically ran into the pass rusher sack on another one. The shotgun snap hit him in the hands. And he dropped it because he was looking up at the coverage before he secured the catch. That was an unforced error, like the first one was, And then, of course, there's the pick six. It was third and short, the safety was playing deep. The slot receiver on the right. Justin Ross had an easy slanted to pick up the first down. Just catch the snap and throw it fast to Ross instead were younger than they watched rocks and he stared at him, and he stared at him, and he stared at him in the safety Christopher Smith started coming up and up and up and up, and by the time we younger living, finally threw the ball of the safety was in position to catch you and run back for a touch them. That was another unforced error, and not a day when the clutch of defense played just as dominant as the Georgia defense. It was those unforced errors, especially to pick six that made the difference. How can they fix it? They just need to take a breath, settle in and get things right against the schedule. Now there won't be nearly as tough Trevor, speaking of taking a breath and letting things settle in, and I know Notre Dame one last night off that field goal, But what did last night's performance by MIKE novels Florida State Seminoles say to you after watching them claw back with Mackenzie Milton and the way they played with Jordan, Travis You know that Florida State performance, I think has a chance to be one of my favorite of the entire season. Once we look back at this season in January, Florida state for so long, Joel has been A program with problems in the locker room, right guys that weren't on board with anything other than themselves and has taken a few years for those guys to kind of age out or to be invited to explore their college football opportunities elsewhere until they got a locker room of guys that will fight for each other. And Notre Dame was up 18 points in the fourth quarter, and Florida State was still playing with fire and fight. I love the way they're running backs run, they run with such burst in such violence. Then, when Mackenzie Milton came in a quarterback, of course, that that after spark, and they made up that 18 point deficit and took him to overtime, and so the thing that I like I mean, you see some talent there, which has been lacking for a while. But you also see more than anything else. A different mindset for the Florida State Seminoles instead of playing for themselves, quitting on plays, which we've seen in the past so often, these guys just thought Even when they were down 18 in the fourth quarter, and I'll just give you one example of quitting the year that Lamar Jackson won the Heisman Trophy it Louisville. In the second half. The Florida state defense quit. They quit. They were plays where Jackson would break out and start running. And when he got past the level of a couple of guys, and they just started jogging now, well, you know what? What if he stumbled? What if somebody else with an angle made him cut back into the angles that if you ran hard, you could catch it. Didn't matter. They just jogged right? That did not happen with this version of the Seminoles. I am very impressed with how they played. Well, we're talking to curb her saree, and he was saying that there might be more depth than the C than what we really know. But what we saw the first weekend, Trevor as we saw Miami get blitz by Alabama. Right. We saw Virginia Tech beat North Carolina. What does this say about Clemson's hopes for making a college football playoffs? I think they still do because this ultimately I think will be seen by the committee as not debacle by Clemson, but rather an amazing game by Georgia that turned on one play that turned on the pick six. Just for all the things you can say about Georgia's offensive failings. Excuse me. Clemson's offensive failings. Georgia's offense only scored three points to And if you told the Clemson fans before this game that their defense would hold Georgia's offense to three points for the entire game. I think there's a crimson fan. You would absolutely love your chances. And so I think the committee will look at this game and see that it was that that tight Hard fought close game where the loser is not out of the playoff hunt and Clemson has the easier path certainly in Georgia to get to the conference championship and win it, So I think Clemson is still in the hunt and crunching with that defense is going to be in every game. They play, so in this case because of their defense Let me push back on that a little bit, though, and get your thoughts, Trevor, because I'm not sure I see the runway in the schedule left because you're right. Clemson has a schedule that they can just dominate the rest of the way. Can they get a signature win if the turns out to be down this year? Not really. I think it would be tough Virginia Capital effect, They might be pretty good. I mean, that was an outstanding offense that they traveled of North Carolina, and they throttled it. They got six tax on Sam. How With a veteran offensive line. I mean veteran how is known to hold onto the ball for longer than he should. Sometimes simple facts are on him. But still, Virginia Tech is looking pretty strong. That might be a strong victory of Clemson plays them and beat them. But at the same time you're still looking at Clemson and you're still looking at the A. C C, and if they go on and become a one laws ACPC champ where their only loss was seven points. George, a team that is very likely to win the SEC East and maybe the SEC. I don't think the committee is going to grade them down so far that it would bounce them all the way out of the playoff hunt if they went out. Trevor. How about Georgia? How? How about the style in which we see? Can they be a team like Alabama? Oh, absolutely. Georgia right now is able to do that. And here's why they're built to beat Alabama. Haven't done it yet to come agonisingly desperately close. It's just been. There's been a couple of years, starting with the national championship game, which was the the Coming out Party of True freshman to a tongue go below and eventual Heisman Trophy winning receiver Devante Smith right where they beat Georgia and over time that George has been so close. But they're built for Alabama. First of all, they've got a strong running game. Second of all their defense is stout upfront. Forget stop Alabama's run before you can do anything. And with Jordan Davis and most big D lineman they've they've got as good a chance as anybody. In the country to slow down Alabama's running game. You've got to affect the quarterback Bryce Young. He was a coming out party for him against Miami, but Georgia has the pass rush individual specialists. To be able to do that. Then they.

"Last night where Mackenzie Milton came off the bench the old you see up quarterback for Florida state horrific knee injury in 2018. Doctors told him he'd never walk again without immense pain. And there he was trying to lead Florida State to come back and almost dead kid missed a short field goal in overtime. There was a tuck rule moment in the game. Where There was a fumble ruled on the field. Florida state challenged Officials evidently thought the tuck rule still existed and said it was an incomplete pass. So it created a chip shot field goal for Florida State and then the dude missed it from 37 yards. So that's what it took for Notre Dame to survive last night. Notre Dame's problem is that they win. They win a lot. They're winning 10 games a year under Brian Kelly, sometimes more. There in the mix for the college football playoff every year. But my opinion is no one really ever takes them seriously. That college football fans. Sorry, Notre Dame. The college football fans think Notre Dame Always gets ranked Too high, and they're always competing for college football playoffs, Not because they deserve it, or they've earned it, but because they're Notre Dame. And last night fed into that narrative. So I want to know what Notre Dame how Notre Dame fans feel about that. And I wanna hear from college football fans, too. Well, I think get bothered by the amount of coverage and analysis that Notre Dame football gets. 855 to 1 to 4 to 27 is the number Andrew Philip Pony in for D. A. This morning. Here's Mike in Ohio on CBS Sports Radio. Hi, Mike. Hey, what's going on, man? Happy living it, Um quickly. Thank um two part thing I was going to say. First of all, I think Florida State and Miami. What in the front door happened to They used to be. You know, a 18 down there in the top floor. They were They were the top dogs. Right? So I guess for college football fan, I'm hoping that they sort of get it back on track. It looked like they were trying last night. Um, they're in as far as Notre Dame goes, I go there Wisconsin, Cincinnati and Bartek in three weeks and you know, coming up, and I think they're going to be in trouble with some of that. So I think Notre Dame is definitely not Two people. Are you a Notre Dame fan to me? Where are you coming from with this? What's your perspective on it? Do you even give a damn about them? Mike? I mean, what's your take? I have family that went there. And there Notre Dame homers and there's a lot of Oh, if you got on the phone with one of them this morning and said, Hey, Happy Labor Day. What did you think about the game last night? Would they make excuses for him and make him out to be better than they are? Are they those types of Notre Dame fans? Probably. Yeah. Oh, jeez. You think they're going to play Alabama almost every year and I go. Well, you're never gonna be those amber, you know? And and I'm in Ohio near Columbus. So You know, that's my. If Ohio State played Notre Dame on Saturday with Notre Dame, would Notre Dame lose the game by fewer than two touchdowns? They would probably lose by 21 points. See, That's the perspective when you're not and that and well, I guess he's kind of in the Notre Dame family. Kind of in the Notre Dame family. Even though they win 10 games a year. America thinks Notre Dame football is overrated. And they fed into that last night with the way they barely hung on to beat Florida State a program that is still I think in Maybe not disarray. It's not like they're mired in scandal. It's not like they're a team. That has, you know, besmirched itself with something? Um Something embarrassing or something within the programme that has given it a black eye. They've just had too much turnover. Jimbo Fisher left. Willie Tagger came in and flamed out and was fired after two years, and now they're on their third coach, and when that happens, it transfers are rampant in college football as it is They get kicked up to a whole another level. Your recruits go to SEC schools, they go to the other Florida schools. And that's how you get Florida State as a team. That, you know, maybe if they're lucky They get bowl eligible, which I guess they could in the water down a C C. I guess they could find a way to get to seven wins. 855 to 1 to 4 to 27. I know it's super early. I never thinking. What is this guy doing? Raising his voice and getting all worked up? Because I'm trying to wake myself up right now. Okay? And the best way for me to do that is by, uh, talking about Notre Dame football because that gets the juices flowing for me. I'm not a Notre Dame fan. But like Mike in Ohio. I think everybody You're from the North East like I am. I grew up in upstate New York. I'm in Pittsburgh now. Everybody has someone close to them. Who Likes Notre Dame for one reason or the other. My step brother was a diehard Notre Dame fan. I think I haven't asked him this. I think it's because he went to a Catholic school when he was a kid. And so he got inundated with the Notre Dame stuff and then just adopted them in his as his college football team. I think that's the reason why he likes them. But we'd have to put up with that every Saturday. We have to fight for the living room TV. He won NBC on so we could watch Notre Dame play Michigan State. Something like that. You know, he'd have his You have his Carlisle Holiday jersey on You know, he had delusions of grandeur about Notre Dame. You know, competing for national championships back then, I guess the measuring stick would have been teams like Florida State in Miami. I don't know. Maybe that's how some Notre Dame fans look at it, You know? Well, we could be Miami. We could be Nebraska..

"And I started tearing up, and then what happened was he led a touchdown drive. It wasn't one play. It was two plays and three plays. He went four for four on his very first drive as a new Florida state quarterback, replacing Jordan Travis. And they left him in the game. And he led another drive to make the game tying field goal happen. Game goes to overtime, and you're like, dude, is this gonna happen? Is he gonna lead a comeback against Notre-Dame? And unfortunately, it didn't happen, right? Unfortunately, in overtime, Florida states kicker missed a field goal, Notre-Dame's kicker made their field goal. They win the game. But I just, I don't really care. It's a movie, still, it just had a bad ending. Just because it wasn't exactly what we wanted. It didn't make the moment any less special. It did a little bit. I would have loved to see. I can acknowledge that. I wanted to see we all did Mackenzie Milton make a comeback win the game. We didn't get that. But the fact that he even made it interesting was like incredible. And I thought, of all the games I watched this weekend this game Florida state Notre-Dame was the one that stood out to me and I was like, wow. And he had to throw on third and 11 to it was like a 15 yard throw down to the four yard line. McKenzie Milton, I put it on my Instagram stories, a video of him throwing over the middle. Geeks drilled as he's hit. It's a throw up and over a linebacker into a perfectly small window, that's an NFL throw. And I don't know that Mackenzie Milton's an NFL quarterback. But that one throw was like, dude. This is what Florida state needed at all game. They needed a guy to hang in the pocket and deliver the ball rather than whatever Jordan Travis was doing running around. They talked about before they gave him how Jordan Travis had all these problems and was struggling with confidence. And I'm like, why is this guy you're starting quarterback? No offense to the guy, but it was so clearly Mackenzie Milton, who was the better quarterback at Florida state. And I think everyone watching was like, where was this all game? I don't understand. Now, here's the last kind of weird, crazy thought..

It only gained one yard Well, Mike Norville has a head coach for Florida State has a decision to make you put back in Jordan, Travis. Do you keep Mackenzie Milton in when you're down here, 10 points with 6 22 to go member now. Mackenzie Milton finished sixth in Heisman Trophy voting. The last time he played a full season. It's fantastic. At center, Florida over 9000 total offense yards, he faces third down 11. On the shotgun drops back Santa, far hash throws over the middle, complete to the five yard line and tackled right away. It will be first and go up to five. They snap that ball just a few seconds after they picked up 15 little substitution 12 men on sale activists and city game post down and that's Mackenzie Milton, using his veteran savvy one of the things he leaked quarterbacks do experience quarterbacks do when you get down in the red zone. They get on the line of scrimmage right away and call the play because they can see more than anybody else who's on the field. Who is struggling to get off 5 52 left in the game and county. "Ranked Notre Dame leads Florida State 38 28 J. Ram with the Notre Dame punter. Was knocked down. As soon as he punted. The ball was fourth down and nine penalty flags came out If that would have been a 15 yard personal foul automatic first down, there was a long discussion with the officials and the Notre Dame sideline consisting of Brian Kelly and Brian Polian. They decided it was just a five yard penalty. That means the ball did go back to Florida State. They begin first down and 10 On their own 12 yard line. I think the coach Polian and coats Kelly were upset because if the player is making a play on the ball typically, that's just the roughing the kicker in five yards, But the player for Florida State hit the mid side of J. Bramblett. He wasn't even trying to go towards the foot in the ball, and that's where coach Kelly and Post Polian in my opinion. Very upset. Still upset. Lawrence to affiliates the tail back to the right of Jordan. Travis. He's gone the entire way. We have not seen Mackenzie Milton at all. Last time, Florida State had the ball. They went. 15 plays 75 yards. Touchdown at a two point conversion. Travis takes the shotgun snap hands off inside. So a Philly breaks a tackle the backfield out across the 20 yard line Heck of a run there that could have been a lawsuit to but he fought off that tackle and split out to the left side. And picked up 11 yards. JD Bertrand, with the tackle, just finishing through the sidelines. Excellent finish. Minorities Defense, First down and 10, Florida State on their own 22 moving right to left. Come right back to the ground game up the middle drew white. With a tackle at the 23 yard line on Lawrence to affiliate wrapped him up from behind and dragged him back. Only again of one clock continues to tick, 9 48 and counting left in the game drew white, just faking right there, too, making to affiliate come back inside, even though that's exactly where he was just by showing his shoulders a little bit. Notre Dame three down linemen they do bring one extra linebacker on the blitz. Travis stands in now runs out to his left across the 2025 30 in the near sideline across the 40 45 steps out of bounds, help the ball in the pocket for quite a while and saw that space to the left. Took off by himself in game 21 yards down the near sideline. Notre Dame's defense is gas. That was the first time Florida state's offensive line has kept Notre Dame's defensive line off of Jordan. Travis. They're getting tired out there, and that's right right now, Sometimes they have a plan, not saying this is happening. But if you go down as a player, the clock stops, you've got to get taken off the field. Some coaches I've played for had that call. And we'll take a break. 9 20 left in the fourth quarter time out on the field for a Notre Dame player who's down at the 45 will check on who that is, and let you know when we come back. It's Cam Heart the corner. He is sitting up as they tend to his lower body..

"Well, they want to win that game. They need him on the field, and you know he was in a walking boot was 100%. That's something that's going to get talked about all week, as you saw early in that game, the hit he had on the Fresno State quarterback and able to Create that havoc and Ohio State you know they they struggled at times against Minnesota, but the big play potential is Ridiculous in that offense with the receivers with freshman running back Trayvon Henderson and CJ Stroud once he got warmed up and kept it simple. They were able to put a bunch of points on the board. So yeah, I've organized any chance to win in that game. Gotta hope that cave home can be on the field. You have any concern about CJ Stroud? The way he looked in that first game, or that's just, you know, first time on the field first start kind of thing. I think it's first start kind of thing. I mean, they've They've obviously, um It's just he looked like a freshman. That's what I keep telling people. We looked like a fresh historian, and that's pretty much older is to it. He, uh, definitely Got going in the second half because he kept it simple. It was just getting the ball in space to Garrett Wilson getting the ball in space. Krystle other, um, quick, easy reason. He's just got to settle in. But I'm not bad for a first game. First Road start a big 10 team that Minnesota came ready to play, too. How much credit do you give? Chip Kelly and U C l A for handling else you now they were at home, but a lot of people have thought. U C l A is a joke, and they're not going to be any good or their fraud. And then here comes the big, bad SEC and LSU. And last night they win. 38 27. How much credit are you giving Chip Kelly. I mean, a lot, fellas. He to win that game, and I thought, you know, I thought that was a no brainer. But, uh, the way they came out, ran the football. They're starting to turn a corner there and during Thompson Robinson, I think They may compete. Or Pac 12 championship, and it's been a little bit of a long route for them. It's kind of like they came in the season the same way as Nebraska with Scott Frost, but With that brute and brown and, uh, That sharpen it in that Russian attack. It was pretty relentless. So it reminded you a little bit of those old organ teams with Chip Kelly. And that's bad news for the rest of the Pac 12. So, yeah, very impressive Win and Obviously probably going to put else you in that order on that hot seat talks going to continue. Yeah, I think so, too. Before we let you go build Notre Dame, Florida State tonight. Notre Dame coming in ranked ninth. Mike Norville down there. Florida State. I don't know if he's Has enough to turn that thing around. I still like Notre Dame to be one of the top teams this year. What do you make of this game tonight? Doug. Be fun. You know, I think it will be definitely, uh Lot. Um, you know, on Jack Cohen and perhaps Mackenzie Milton if he starts to transfer quarterbacks, Milton obviously a great story tonight. Um I think Notre Dame Touch, undervalue some ways the team that we always want to co call overrated. They've got a lot of playmakers back. Karen Williams, Michael Meyer, good.

It just doesn't It doesn't mean and I might add the guy on the phone who is a huge supporter of U. C. F is a man who flew a plane around a Gator game that said Gators both taste and schedule like chickens, so It's not like chat is the we got to do it. We got to do it. We got to do it. And you know what? We're fighting for five years away from this really mattering anyway, because you know we're getting this in. We're lucky. You know, now we're not going to have any other big, big time opponents. The next four or five years coming in. So so we've got to do this. We have to do it now. Roof, and you know what the game means as much to you. CF even on the road. As it does at home, So you know there's still a financial benefit to them. Even with the road game with TV revenue, and all of that, all right, real quick man. We have a huge argument today. I'm siding with Chick fil A. I think Chick fil A is rightful in charging 25 cents for a cup of water. Nick says they are a bunch of nutjobs Kevin Ray views I think started cursing them out. My question for you. Is there some sort of legal standing either way for Chick fil a charging 25 cents for a cup of water. Well, they can. They can do whatever they want to do. Really. There's no statute that prohibits them from charging for water. Um what they're really charging you for? Is the cups and and probably some some energy and time spent with making the ice which their ice is amazing, so I would pay 25 cents, particularly ice. But I know you sent me a statute earlier. You wanted me to comment on And it's a statue that talks about requiring restaurants to provide potable water. And really, that's that's a health and sanitation statute, and what that says is, you have to provide clean water for people to use for sanitation purposes. And portable just means that it has to be up to the standards of being able to be drunk. So there's no requirement that they give you free water. Um and I think that those stair this big Styrofoam cups are expensive. The ice is amazing. People are going to pay 25 cents Amazing How many people like that ice? The ice is great. It is the chip ice or whatever it is go to public. It's the same ice at Publix. Go to Publix. Get free water at public, So I do it all the time. All right, man. Big deal came out earlier in the week. Dylan Gabriel, ranked fourth among 100 and 30, available quarterbacks this season. Did this catch you off guard because it sets him up for what Nikki Football says is everything he needs for a run at the Heisman. Yeah. I mean, it might not be this year. I have a strong suspicion. He'll be back next year. Um, but this year next year with the with the core of wide receivers running backs that can that can change the game up, opening up the downfield passing And the Titans that we have coming in. Not to mention the fact that we have a very strong returning offensive line. Think he's set up perfectly for the Heisman. You might not get it will be. I think he'll probably be in the room this year, but I think next year if he comes back, we'll have a very, very strong chance. So we just don't know what we're going to get with this mouth on offense, and a lot of people are speculating that Might not be as good as we think it is just because of what happened in Auburn, But you know, I got high hopes, and I'm so pumped up for the season to start. I think that makes a really good point about that, By the way you would have. If I were to have to bet on the futures of Dylan Gabriel winning the Heisman. It would be the 2022 not the 2021 Heisman for a few of the points that he made that is Year two of the mouse on offense this year. I would expect some bumps early. Let's say I haven't looked at their schedule next year. But also there's a chance the college football playoff goes to 12 teams in 2022, which means If Dylan Gabriel has an outstanding season this year, kind of like Mackenzie Milton did in 2017. He finished eighth in the Heisman voting that year, rides the momentum into 18 Milton Milton Road that momentum into 18, where he finished sixth, actually, and then Dylan Gabriel did something similar. But you, C F is in the mix to make the playoffs. I think that's when he has a chance to really capture it. But he has to, and I just want to add. Go ahead. The tip The nine or 10 losses that we had under high poll were all defensive losses. We didn't have any Offensive losses. I mean, those are all defensive losses where we gave up. You know, 60 points, Um and so I think the defense is going to be stronger. So these kids come in, and it's amazing, and so that's going to open up the offense as well. All right.
