"But i guess those are my five. I would go with those five firmly. I think all five of them are certainly going to end up with a grand slam title over the next decade but again that that's a hot take about yanic. A lot of people have been saying that about him for a long time in his career. Again he competes in the today against mackenzie mcdonald in terms of just quickly other city open takeaways. They're not gonna preview that match. Because i think by the time you're listening to this it will likely have started. I do apologize for that but again the other city open takeaways. Lloyd hairs isn't just a forehand. Backhand is rock solid. His ability hit through that ball. How condense on the back swing and then obviously the big serve big forehand holzer at a top twenty eight and again. I think he will more returns in play. I don't think there's any fundamental falls. I actually think pace to the forehand on the service. Probably the play as a server because of how big his backswing can get. But i was really impressed with his game. I thought i mean he had his chances against nishi. Just kind of slipped up there at the end and then again i sort of mentioned this already. Stevie johnson is fit mentally. I feel bad. I didn't interview with him. The audio didn't record. You're not gonna get to hear it. But he talked about how he does. Just feel comfortable back on court again. How much more enjoyable is to be a tennis player when he has the opportunity to play in front of fans and just you know again while he loves tennis. It's not you know. He wants to be a professional athlete as well. And just he's fit. He's confident into the quarter-finals two out of three events first time he's done that since i believe twenty nineteen or eighteen and again pig result for him heading into a critical hard court Summer for him to stay inside the top one hundred of course on the dentist ban Note he is back inside the top one hundred which is a place he belongs. You look for could lanao He will be ranked next week number. Ninety that's just going to give him options again. He should get into a bunch of different to fifty events and things down the homestretch able to go play the atp level. Give himself a chance to earn more points as opposed to playing challengers and then cleared the relationship..

"I was thinking isn't today day for but then oversee rosengard stalls in the sunday so is a day five day four yesterday. I'm getting the numbers. All mixed up i again. I think yesterday was the most dramatic of days. But i think allow us to kind of catch our breath after the like assault drama and more happy for stall of the week. I suppose we were talking earlier about american women how they were doing really well in the tournament and there was a lot of them still in an american men as well as also had a very good runner events and yesterday we saw a lot of them go through into the third round who amongst these men pops most excited by expecting to name fastest into the tournament. Joe well just before we get to that. It's it's really strange. 'cause in the drool is seems like over the americans Apart from a couple have been put into that quarter at the very bottom in daniel medvedev school to send a they will feel that they have a real opportunity to go follow there. And yeah we left with. John is ner radio poker marcos giron and steve johnson all threes around three really really impressive It could have been even more impressive if You know christian garin Gave heartache to mackenzie mcdonald you have to you. Match points in a third-set tie-break wasn't able to do it and garin one in five eight six in the fifth tony pools. I took the first set off. Daniel medvedev but lost in enforced. So we all left with is now a poker g ron johnson but that is really really impressive. Stuff given the the american men's tennis is not in the best shape. I don't think there is a as no american man in the top thirty. Which apparently is the the fast time that's happened since the atp began in nineteen seventy-three so that just shows you where they are in terms of that positions in in the rankings. And for me off go to say. I've been impressed. A hate to say. It came up in impressed by johnny's ner Really had much of him but he's come back with a bang 'field linda he is. He is such a tough nut to crack a few. But it could be at grand slams and he's up. I think he's up next and cisa pass and i think that's going to be a real hard test for fisa. Pasco's is an anti serve on any surface. It's just very very hard pass. He's going to need to be able to play and win the big points. Well because y- you suspect there are going to be a few tiebreaks get. Does anyone enjoy playing against stamina. Not great practice for light returning serves but also the only remaining slam that doesn't have a form of tiebreak in the last set. Is it still kind of play. Play in someone wins. So ooh could we see perhaps another fifty eight new. How could it happen. Every is involved in the t. Longest say there's a passion there. Yeah it's weird. Isn't it how they've all folded in this one bit of the draw. It's it's quite strange. Yeah i mean if beppayev's going to win this title he's gonna have to pay three probably coffee americans because they wouldn his section however yeah it'll be interesting to say how isn't doesn't sits pass a rally. Poco wasn't quite good form because he reached the semi's in room. I think it was Yet lost event before michael sheron. I date not watch bow Now she no. He was american. I've just his name is what i've seen in draws dating of that. She ever seen him play but he did quite well. It's big ego pair because a pay being argentinean very comfortable in the play say that was quite good performance but yet really good For the american men as opposed. I suppose in complete contrast to the frenchman. He would not having the best of tournaments as we just mentioned another player. Joe the i think you. We'll be. I think a lot of fans like this player. Like he's very popular acacia nishikori. You know he's been around for but he's very likable. And he had basel with karen hatchet off bought the nishikori. The is dominant in five-set matches. An always comes through in the end managed to say six four in the face. He's such a good record in deciding sets in slams when it goes five and he proved that the other day he's twenty six at seven five-set record and it's just. It's just so good because i feel that he's a player. We associate with injuries. But he's really really terrible as matches kind of go on. And i thought this match as i said i thought fitness was going to be one of his concerns going into the french open and not she. The longest match is going to go on the less likely. He was going to have a chance of winning it but it was actually quite the opposite and he came through four six six two two six six four six four against catch nov. So ready really impressive. He had a four match in round one against jan esi and yes just kind of continuing on where he's finding this energy. I think he actually said at his press conference. I don't like to play five sets. I'd rather not. But hey if i've got the vice that record of nishikori i'll just be like can we. Can we just to set now. Just pretend as i've said let's play one. Yeah approach beads site. Play every set like a fifth set. Well exactly to think why con players just a up. They gained from the word go. We rely on crunch time but Yes exactly so. We'll have to see how how he goes. He's actually go on luck lexington of thinking constant but it's noises lax and and so i think he's an raipur so he really not much about and i mean he came through bautisa which surprised a lot of people in round t but nishikori will definitely feel like that is is winnable lacson mood. Daphne also i feel like it's an opportunity for him to get a big scout to his. Yeah for sure..

"Just about you know what it's like in poland right now with sri on tech and or coach and hopscotch has been very vocal and supportive of iga and being inspired by her and they have this cool relationship back and forth that you know they view each other as inspirations. He also seems to be a good dude. You know. we're always hesitant to to say that publicly about any man on the atp tour or any man in general but the evidence thus far shows the mr hor catch is on the up and up. Yeah he's a very endearing personality. There has been this jeff going round of him trying to kiss his miami trophy today and the most awkward way possible song like he was trying to bite in the mid section jahnig center said today on court that who birch is probably his best friend on tour and ego and hubert are just superstars in poland right. Now he'll crack the top twenty for the first time i believe he's landing in a number sixteen and that's the with. Adp still protecting some ranking points. So for mr is verify that must really piss him off. Can we not. Can we just not this episode. Please we've talked about rankings. More than enough. Well no because the very next thing here on the agenda is. I'd like to move past that now i think we're going to mention verbal impress in miami's verve said quote. I could ask you guys this back. Do you think should be seven to world with how i recently played. You think. I should not move one spot up. Maybe maybe one spot to spot three spots there should be some movement otherwise the rankings are just the same kind of like this is your classic case of if it's not benefiting me if it's not mimi mimi than it's wrong wrong wrong. I think you should be careful. Asking what the press about where he should be right now. I think you should be careful asking anybody where they think he should be right now. The title of this episode is the methodist person you know is a man part about his inspired by binge-watching several seasons of below deck. But like literally everywhere you turn in life there so man acting of this is kind of a truism on twitter a mean that's gone around that the messy est person you know. The most dramatic is usually a man and his true and it's also just to kind of rejection of the idea that women are too emotional for certain things it seems as though vasek pospisil maybe a little bit too emotional to be a tennis player and co leader of the pta. Because that's what we saw oak in miami. So here's what happened the x. First match against mackenzie mcdonald. At the end of the first set he completely melts down. It starts over a line call. He's down three five two mackey mcdonald. I he bangs on the towel thing and gets a warning then. He smashes his racket completely and gets a code violation for racket abuse. Shortly after he gets another code for an audible obscenity which is point penalty and then on the change over. This is where it happens. He goes completely off at the chair. Umpire gaba who is a a recovered victim of another canadian who almost knocked his eyeball out. Remember that we're not supposed to talk about that anymore. Denis shapovalov been completely rehabilitated to the point where he acts a prince on court which we know not to be the case. But this i mean are no man i mean. He is like the white house in the war of eighteen twelve under attack by canadians. Pospisil is the on his his chair and our noise likely. What's going on. What is this about. And then vashchuk says an hour and a half the chair of the atp fucking screaming at me players meeting for trying to unite the players for an hour and a half the leader of the atp. Get him outta here fucking asshole. Why am i supporting this fucking tour. You want to default me through this whole organization and it was like skirt. What noise lola. What are you talking about. The tennis world was like oh. This isn't about a a line call or something within the match like something actually went on the reactions to this ran. The gamut was like you tell them vasic to atp those big bad bastards. You tell them. People sympathized with his plight of trying to get better conditions for tennis players. And then some people were like you need to just shut the fuck up onto your job. Honestly my reaction has run the gamut as well. This is this is really complicated. The things are true here but the one thing that i keep coming back to is a woman. Most times is not allowed. The grace wayne. She's in a situation like this. Where you lose your blob on work right. He's at work and he's doing this other work business on the side and he's unable to separate the two one from the other and performed professionally in view of millions. You know my my soul lens perspective. When looking at this my gut reaction was that is really petulant. And i don't you would grant the same grace to a woman that same situation. Of course men view women as emotional because they don't see anger as an emotion right so when men are angry it can be read as righteous as rational as important and masculine right. Anger is masculine but win. Women have similar outbursts. They can be called shrill annoying hysterical. I understand or. I want to understand what precipitated this tantrum because obviously there is a lot of stuff going on in the background but i resent the way that the immediate response from some people were like. Oh just be gentle on it. Like he is an adult right like he's thirteen years at the chair. Umpire grown man. What did the chair do to deserve that outbursts. If if there's stuff going on at the bargaining table you got to keep that at the bargaining table and leave mr chair. Umpire are no out of it. This precipitates an online campaign players are out here. Sending many different messages hashtag players voice very vague weird tweets about how the players need a voice or we need to be united and there wasn't a whole lot about why why were angry. Why vasek was so pissed off and therefore my main reaction to this whole episode is what the hell happened at this meeting. Nobody has addressed right. There have been a few a. We've heard from people at the meeting that russia was treated poorly and called ignorant and uneducated by gow density..

"Of all tennis plays at the moment. And that is vasic pospisil. And he had a massive outburst on cool against mackenzie mcdonald well. Kind of went. Viral didn't abacus. I it was pretty a from my point of pretty awful behavior. I think others maybe can can sympathize with him. But i mean what did you make of that joe. I mean. He had reached boiling point. Hadn't he not much. You was obviously very frustrated with how he was playing. You went on to lose it but really the result was not the you know the big takeout from from that match it was the outburst you know whilst he was kind of talking to the empire and it it just opened up a can of worms and gave us a gave. The regular fans gave ourselves a really interesting insight into what the dynamic is at the moment between the atp and the atp players to quite him He said for an hour and a half yesterday. The chairman of the atp exploitive screaming at me. It a play a meeting for trying to unite the players for an hour and a half the leader the atp get him out of here exploitive exploitative while supporting this on my god it was just serious serious drama and You know everyone. I think talking and does not seem well at the moment in the on the tour. I think there's a lot of unhappy unhappy players at the moment of c. Pospisil his voice. It in a way the i think the players look at and thought maybe it could have been done more professionally. But some yeah. I just think the mood at the moment is think this captured some of the mood is some of the plane carrying three. Yeah i think the he did. It was very unprofessional but osa if his claim is that the chairman was swearing him. That's also incredibly unprofessional. Like there should be no. I mean imagine uh staying in like a meeting at work and just swearing colleagues would be ridiculous so i i really don't like the. There's all seemingly being unprofessional j. I mean he's obviously frustrated like they've the he's one of the founding members of the p. t. p. a. Which was the kind of alternative a play account. So if you like for. At pay while for for all players but originate they just said. It was kind of for the men's tennis when it came out. Law summa so. I imagine that. Atp chairman is not particularly enamoured by pospisil and jovic. It's there and others the set the pta up and they do have obviously judgment concerns the the way. The ranking system is being phrasing into the covid restrictions gang on the prize. money issue. say for sure. They've got legitimate concerns that needs to be addressed within the the board of atp and then pants and everything but for me. Pospisil doing on call. You know in a in a match at miami first round match against mackenzie mcdonald eight kind of started with him. Splashing and then he smashes racket and he started having a go at the empire you know. He got verbal abuse penalty point which lost in the opening set and quite rightly for me. It was weird. Because so it was quite a protracted out thing. I felt like he was walking around muttering to himself thinking then. He smashed his racket and he was debating today he was delayed. He was like like. I shall a gopher and then he was like i'm just gonna go for it and yeah it felt like he always used like as a an opportunity to make his a fake. Yeah in some ways. It was almost kind of light was his pitch to other players in terms of you know this animosity. The older the players are getting and airing that and yelling a battle cry. I think to the rest of the locker rooms in the are you with me or against me. Because he feels like he's obviously very passionate guy about fighting for the players voice. Along with other plays like that djokovic. And he's feeling like he's fighting to fennell from the and for me it. It did feel like a bit of a pitch. I think to the rest of the locker tons of. Why don't you join us. Because they're all these things going on. At the moment that rule i think combining and making it very unhappy Dynamic at the moment as you said you know the play restrictions kind of getting on the reductions in prize money the ranking system. It all seems to be a bit of a mess and the pay is getting the brunt of it and pospisil. You wants to do better. He may want to do better. And i do. I sympathize with haz. Waste coming from. But i for me his actions on cool with very childish a hey if the and use of lash out quickly i can understand that because you know we will get angry frustrated but the fact that it was so protracted i feel like he was definitely thinking adrian has had and yet he still went and did it this way. More diplomatic methods for your voice and trying to get other players on board and for me. I'm such an anti racket-smashing that i just think it's so disrespectful. And he disrespected the cool and the game in many ways. And i understand that. He's obviously annoyed. But i just think there are other ways of going about and i. I know the players have come out. Oh you know. Unfortunately you know nations get the better better sometimes and you know. He's come out and apologized on twitter. But i just think you can't be losing headlights on a professional tennis court. And i feel sorry as well. Mackenzie mcdonald his opponent. Because he must have been sitting there thinking maybe he sympathised as well with him. But it's as awkward as well for your opponent. And i think that's what made it so extraordinary. I think this is kind of almost the first instance of seeing something that i think should have been baby discussed sort of pleasantly as the board ribs pillau onto a tennis school in front of the you know in front of the cameras and the fans watching what why did not swap makes it so interesting and i think i feel like this was naturally gonna come out given all of the you know the things going on at the moment but to see kind of come out on the co in that way it just was very was very. It was very surprising. I mean you just look at that match on paper. Pospisil versus mcdonnell. Dave you feel as a bit of a describe batch for the outside cool and unique. I think much is going to happen but yet it's a it's an interesting. It's an interesting statement. And i think it shows a the. Atp i think all taking the pta very seriously and i feel like andrei enzi the adleman he might be looking at the pta pta and thinking they are a threat they aw coexist and maybe that's why there was so much source of fire. Thrown it pospisil. Because he doesn't feel like the two can coexist and he's not. he's not helping his cause. And i'm i'm. I'm really interested to see how this evolves because that they're fighting the fighting the course but it completely different ways and it doesn't feel like at the moment those two ways couldn't can mesh whatsoever. Joe your your sleep at the time that when he said. Pta maybe think of school fates and keiko sales. Because that's the parent-teachers say. I wonder if gout enzi is a bit scared of scared of the parents and the governor's at the schools perhaps at possible social gay back to school and learns decorum lessons as well. I think that was kind of talk about wall was the may be kind of sat the atp leadership off and the i think a the moment sort of trying to find that they're trying to find their voice. I think because you know they came out doesn't feel like they had any direction dirty fill. I'd have any sort of strategy and as a result of that so finding what their strategy is about quite a contract. I think over time and it feels like we're in terms of what they have to offer what they can leverage a things a quite scary social things like boycott saw rep..

"Of go to say as a fan i feel like around fall has been very much tale of two halls. I think on the sunday we had some up. See fantastic matches dramatic matches well with some blockbuster titanic tussles going on whereas i think today think we've come a bit of that level of competition. I think one of the reasons for that is injury has really been the the talk of the talk of melbourne. I think for the last twenty four hours of say absolutely show at the moment. It seems if you don't have an abdominal injury. Then we'll all you doing because they all going around like hotcakes at the moment. It seems that everyone's got some kind of nickel and seems to be the dominant abdominal area. That's affected which we will reflect on a bit later as we kind of round up the action but yeah definitely this morning at balti and then that was nothing And in mid. I catch up on the nights action but yeah felt very flats compared to the you know the amazing women's marches for example that we saw on sunday. But let's begin with with today. A perhaps a bit of a scrape. But we'll obviously touch on what did happen and for me. I was very pleased after. Say to see that rafa came through against fabio fanini in straight-sets. Because of see the last time they played slam it was a bit dodgy outcome so i was quite pleased. Rafeh was able to navigate that particular. One yeah this match was very Routine forever. I think it was a very impressive victory for him. He seems to be very much slowly but surely finding his form in in this competition and this match i think particularly showed that he has really kind of improved and he is. I think raring to go now full for the second week for the latter stages of of the men's event in it sounded from his post match interview. He's really excited now. I think he was going in uncertain. About what the two weeks might hold for him. But i feel like now with this victory in the manner of this victory. He's got lows of confidence. I don't think he came into melbourne. With yeah i think obviously having now played four matches the back seems to be holding up anything keys to affected by your fingers crossed in folk phony he. He didn't play sort of horrendously bad or anything you know. He had his child says but he just wasn't able to to capsulize like he was. You know break up in the second set. He was false you up. But we'll see rafeh manage to pick him back and phony broke graphite in the first as well but was never able to kind of actually consolidate so he had his moments where maybe on another day. If he was going to more on it he been able to her referee. Bit more and i didn't think rafa referee didn't serve particularly well today but he still managed to wait in straight-sets fairly that that's good. Isn't it to know that you can kind of have a fairly easy match despite not being at your best and Yeah i think you haven't seen rough at his best. But he's done enough to get through an overseas spas next in the quarterfinals. He'll be looking to raise his level even more. But i think considering where we were at the star of the tournament wherever you know hadn't had any match practice coming in it's it's really pleasing as a rough fantasy you know. He's daughter a. He's the quarters without dropping a set. What what more can you also ready. Yes and that's gonna be stunned test to come because he d feel his. Hof of the drawers is the tricky one to navigate from now on with some of the most informed players. A replica replica. Medvedev at as well. I think what was interesting. You know this was a day match and we were talking. I think we're talking. In one of our previous cat. Shops about the the conditions and the novak djokovic said that the court he felt was playing quicker and rafa also agreed with that and actually he said the day session the conditions. Aw are feeling a bit quicker than the night and he actually said that he preferred playing in the day conditions. Which i think so. I think it surprised The the interview. I think it surprised me as well. 'cause you think that maybe no doubt wants simple to kind of set up a bit more and maybe that happens on an evening session but i thought it was interesting to hear the. He prefers the day session where it is a little bit faster you know. The book comes on his racket. A bit quicker. I think it was a factor in his wind today. The fact it was a big it was a bit quicker and with fog niimi way he plays from the baseline and the the source of shots. He was paying. It was like he was just having no time really You know to prepare what was coming back from the dow. Yeah i mean rafeh will have to for the rest of his matches. Should he win beyond pas- would they would only be night matches you know. I'm sure that he's matching. His quarterfinal will be not the night match against. It's passe yet. I defied is much always into it. So i think africa's likes the heat though as well playing in the day. i think he likes the saban. I think it's kind of that aspect as well. So i think it's baby thought. Yeah i mean we were as she said relative. We say other results in the men's drew and yet we have medvedev. Who say one three really comfortably against mackenzie mcdonald he. It was a very quick match. It was just under an hour and a half. He didn't stand a chance radio..

"His wife wife isn't as married method of your were sitting and so he loses that third set foot at cranach is on a roll and medvedev is spinning out of control. And then extraordinary thing happens and medvedev's coach grabs his bag and heads out the stadium and it was very unclear at the time whether the medvedev had ordered him to leave or whether he left together the toilet. Well well given back. David given taken his bag. I assumed he was gone. But whether he just had enough or we'd been told to leave. I wasn't sure. I think it's emerge that he thought it would be best for medvedev if he left. He took that decision himself to leave. Because my presence hair is just making medvedev angry for some reason any needs to calm down. A method has one of those people who as we know. They can blow hot and cold very very quickly. Yes i'm going to quote you hear much because unlike david law you're too humble to quote yourself on twitter you said nobody loses shitting then gets their shit together so extremely hilariously and quickly as medford and i stand by every word because this was going on. I was cracking up. It was hilarious. It was really funny because he suddenly go. Unbelievable unbelievable. Yeah it was exactly that. That is really impression david for those without the benefit of zoom. Currently on david was throwing his hands up in the act just like medvedev did to looking to the sky when he said that the thing about medvedev is he knows that it doesn't help him to get angry But you just can't control it. And then suddenly he can snap back into gear and he was every bit looking like someone who could be in the conversation for the favourite for the tournament in the fifth. Say destroyed cranach in that fifth set and was brilliant. The exchanges are extraordinary. How much of a factor was the medical timeout. He took it into the fourth set. In ninety eight change mcenroe all but said that it was a strategic medical time out run on twitter. I think it was hannah. At that time. It was andrew o. Andri described it as a medical time. Out for brain cramp. Look he was five to dan. he was It was two cents to one am to five down. He takes his medical timeout down on his stomach. He gets his back back. Press to bet and then he goes off the court to have it dealt with and this quite a long break i don't know whether he's back spat off his head. That's the that's the really difficult thing about all that stuff. It's by that time he already. His coach had already left. And i think is his coach was was just had just become his excuse to mode he was just their fame and yeah i think extricating himself making him just face up to the maximum on his own terms and again. It's it's the one thing about a five-set format personally. I like it some hated. You have room to moan and feel sorry for yourself and then suddenly you've got to focus your mind because there's the finish line it's coming to get back in gear and yeah. I can't believe that it didn't disrupt cranach is momentum. It's it's hard not to but medvedev was brilliant when he came back out so clearly you not that bad and i think probably was least partially a strategic way to break it up. I think it might have been glued that he was talking about because the because the rain. Well the train is said to him. Would you like to go court for this. And he said well if you think i should rather than you know also thirteen night. You fine shorts. Wow that's do this Method of had some interesting things to say about cake in the post. Much press conference said. He's realized the importance of diet and eats really well during tournaments but then when he lets himself go he radio lets himself go and said i'm one of these people. That's really annoying his. I just like five. Cheney cake and i can't seem to put on even a pound so i hate him to memphis now play. He said he's got five cakes in his hotel. Room puck six zero today for your birthday. I'm eating them. He's got them in his hotel room and is saving them for whenever his tournament comes to an end. Will if you're intending to go all the way to nail those cakes have gone on. I think maybe just assuming that the price will probably get him a few more if he needs it. I mean sure but don't jump the gun by the cakes in advance. Then maybe focuses his mind. Maybe he's looking at cakes in the corner during the thinking. If i win this title. I get half those and if i don't have any anyway and it's not just cake. Said he's got tarum assume and other sugary lights. Yes a sweet teeth. He now plays mackenzie mcdonald's in the fourth round. He's a heck of a story mackenzie. Mcdonald's he is. The first is his first time in the fourth round of islam. Lloyd harris the south african in straight-sets mckenzie mcdonald toll a hamstring in a doubles match roland. Garros two hundred nineteen which is a massive injury that would that can careers a have a very major surgery. Couldn't walk for two months in terms of sort of building up the strength and the loading he could do on on that leg. It took months and months and then didn't play for the whole nine hundred and then hope a pandemic happened. So it's been it's been a rotten all time for mackenzie mcdonald. but here..

"The need to be at fittest on call. And i'm not sure i'm not sure if she's like a hundred percent there at the moment yeah. I think it's the first match on. Because i think i'm going to try and stay up for that one. Was it nothing maruta sarka. Say that one. I'm going to be at the moment of truth when we wake up on. Live scores up. Then we'll be like what's up big. Oh my god anyway. Let's move on and talk about a couple of news poll. So the men inside for me as lon- corrosive qualify a russian player straight-sets victory over schwartzman. I didn't read anything about him. Until i saw him in the atp cop playing in the doubles and i was. Oh who's this guy making up the numbers Which probably very harsh of me. Because now is into the fourth round of the atp but yeah straight-sets schwartzman the eight see. That was an unexpected victory. And yeah well done to aslan corrosive. i'll he he plays his trade on the on the tour. But i think he's he was always talking a sleeping giant of the challenges too. I think he's a very good. He's had a very good a time of it at that level kind of in the build up to the australian open. I also was helped him with the cup. And probably one of the advantages. I think for players like Kind of third fulfill to replay in medvedev just being around those players being around the to the most informed players on the tour. I think that just helps his game. Naturally and being the i guess the the hitting partner with a practice partner doubles etcetera. That has helped him really kind of coming into this and yeah it was very surprising. See schwartzman gave out in three sets understand credit In the highlights. He just has has quite big game. Hits a very heavy ground strike on the baseline and yeah it was. It was very impressive. He's what came dropped a set yet. So either eddie qualify. I mean i. I feel very that feels very very very very special. I don't. I can't think of any times that has happened. Qualifier scott to the second week dropped to set in the process. That might even be the first time. I'm not sure. And i think he's got potential to reach the finals because he's got felix next. Who came through over fellow. Canadian denis shapovalov in straight-sets which was somewhat surprising. Actually i was expecting that to be a bit. Potentially four or five set match. But i mean if i overseeing in good form in making it through to the second week but i wouldn't be surprised if he comes on stock against corrosive. Say i think there's a real opportunity for of both of those players to oversee three to that kind of deepest grand slam. Yeah what did you make of the shapovalov. faa match. because i think they've got a ridiculous statistic. Whoever wins the opening set will ways to win the match continue aides because felix took that i seven five and yeah i mean obviously you know. He reached out final against stanford and so playing the day before the storm started. Hasn't done him any any problems. He's he's going strong on the year. He he's he's been most impressive is not let that You know the monkey and the back situation of seven. Five thousand seven defeats get. At-at him too much and he's just going about his business and i think that's really been really impressive and shop of an israeli seem. They must know each other's games inside out but i was surprised to see that to be a three-set straightforward victory seven. Five seven five six. I thought that could have easily gone. Five sets Yeah i mean. Canada lightly a doing very well at the moment and they particularly in the in the men's game with row as well facing probably facing novak djokovic in round four so we shall see just quick. He came back on corrosive. Good stop fi. I'm listening as well. He's just the v qualifier in twenty one years to reach the full round of a grand slam. Now i was trying to desperately find those other four players our listeners. Let us know if you if you think you know who they are. Let us know. I think one of them is david. Goffin the french open. I just remember that. When he i think face roger federer in in the forefront but let let us know because that is as seriously impressive seriously searcy impressive as well. The fact that he did that in straight-sets isn't one of them from last year at the french open was set quarter qualifier. Didn't he got to the fourth round and there was a gentleman that german guy. What was his name began with an a. listeners. Less help is shown. Ever to at last railing garros if that talking about all grand slams and yeah i mean that is quite remarkable and also aslan. That's the lion in the lion. The witch and the wardrobe isn't it is that was named off the lyod baby. He's seriously hitmen. Him and macdonald mackenzie mcdonald have come through very very impressively and i think it just shows you the this so Pandemic has kind of added. I think a bit more so of surprised. Intrigue into the the grand slams his opening up for players in the in the qualifies to go deep in the main drills. Yeah nice to see greco in the fourth round display. He's called team next. And this is a much less excited about dusan lavish recipes. Alex is not particularly foster about that. One no offense to either of those players but that doesn't flight my like let's move auden think we've got a couple of things less eo related. I suppose well actually no the first one related. I looked through the schedule tomorrow. Joe you we pay snow all the wheelchair starting under degroot and van keats. Aw show which. I knew amis as you. Great a so-called today forward andy murray as well was still going strong indiana challenger. He's in the semifinals today. Against 'em book is what my french wants me down bog book gay book. Day and yeah. He came through. Oh headquarters long tie-break yesterday against blades roller of slovenia doing well over that in italy and we had the phillip island which the w. h. e. fifty event that is of the obviously still in the state of victoria for lots of pairs of already lost at the katie. Boulter was in action. She was drawn against kazakina. The second tournament in ray Lost again and yeah fron jane so she did well to beat again. Monica niculescu to reach the major of that one say brits in action in phillip island as well and came. Let's look forward to the play on sunday Quick quick look. The order of play four matches in the men's four round four matches in the men is sort of the women's four friends. So i'm just gonna quickly listenable seem corrosive. Team of love have jovic row niche for the women. We've got mugabe russa. Asaka sue shave us through. Sort salamanca serena williams on texts. And where are you. Where are you looking for a way. Where are you going to be if you could be at the australian open as a fan as the only found that where where would you. Where would you be going of. Well i see a unique fan. Got lucky at my my invisibility cons. They call it c. May i guess well. Let's go to wrote les for for the for the women are saying meek aretha saw fully by sampling serena that is fantastic and then up griego. He's away quite a pleasant to watch. And then i think i would then have to stay on later. Fourche montek callup. It's sorry but it's all about the woman. tamara think. I think i think you're right. I think the matches all particularly in that baltimore for just some absolutely fantastic..

"Seemed like a similar place and you know he was thinking or just need to get through this this that not let this match go on because if you know he's got quiet a painful injury or he's just gonna wanna in a finish the match and get some treatment but he came through and he's go a day also off T recover before sits in the next round. So i mean that match hatchimal bertini always has the potential to go five sets and i think i will be quite disappointed that he didn't manage to get one of these tie-breaks both those payers. I think went into the australian open. Having prett- both in very similar situations in terms of having pretty indifferent seasons before in in twenty twenty. And you're just looking at that game styles. I always very very similar the way that they may. I think that was reflected in the school. I being so close to the fact that you're nothing was really separating them in the anything that was separating them with three tie breaks the catching of well the disappointed. He wasn't even able to snack one of them particularly in the second and third when it was close in the the school lime but bertini again is in a good run of form and we saw that in the cup. It's great fatale and tennis at the moment. I mean yes. Lost the first round but bertini and folk nina three to the the second week. It's it's really impressive stuff from these islands at the moment indeed and forgot. The annex was italian. I think is because he's obviously. It doesn't seem typical talion disease from the german speaking area but anyway he is so yeah. It's in is booming but just sit spots. He had a very very boring match six. Four six one six against mikhail. Ema who i think was his coronation practice. Bonuses little of quarantine matchups going on a really exciting me. They mackenzie mcdonald as into the fourth-round this is we've even talked abou he's been out for well with really bad back injury kind of i forgot. What about him to be on. but he's always uptight. I've enjoyed watching. And he came through against loyd harris in straight-sets so yeah it's fantastic to see him back up. Because i remember when we were there for years ago we slow him. Play greg all dimitrov in the second round and that was that was such a entertaining much when we saw it wasn't it that was You know that was really when he announced himself and he he he does have a. It does play quite well in australia now. He's had a few injury troubles. I've lost she seasons but he's being able to really put it together this tournament and he took out in round two i think and yeah he just is playing really well. He would thought lost last american man in the in the main draw. Mackenzie dude flying the flag for for the usa. But yeah he is yeah he he looks he looks really good. I'm really. I'm really pleased for him. a little stop few came. He's the lowest ranked player in the australian open round of sixteen since kanye back in two thousand four so he's making the most of his protected ranking and he's not as he's pigging that to really good use and getting some much needed i guess prize money and ranking points. And doing it for anyone cooled. Mackenzie whether that's your first name. You said i love it. Yeah i definitely really really get very peaceful him just on his opponent lloyd harris. He's south african. actually he is going to become the number one south african In the next atp rankings usurping. Kevin anderson and i wonder if that's Assault moments in terms of looking at the past now looking at the future. Lloyd harasses a very decent player and is very very good prospects and i think he will be disappointed in the in the manner of the defeat because by pay would've would've looked to that match up being like this is a very big chance to get to the the second week of a grandson but lloyd harris has a very bright future as well and i'll be interested to see how he does this season. Absolutely let's move onto the women's side of events because we didn't have very interesting matches. I would say today on the on the women's side a little of them were straight-sets. But i guess the most compelling scoreline was was don't advocate against kepi we'd spectrum. It'll about canopy. She's taken out severe. Kenan the defending champion. She's go a good record at slams against top players. And i guess the question when someone has a big win over top seed is can they back up in the next round. And could if he was going to she She had match points in the second-set but she couldn't confer and donovan catch came back to win in three five seven seven six six four two vac itchy who is into the fourth round of the australian apron. Full the fast. I'm say is always one of those plays. I think loves three-set toss. Oh she she will never give up. I love the fight in her. And we've seen that a lot especially had much of contra at wimbledon and on the grass but yeah this is interesting because i think can appeal. Be rueing a missed opportunity with swim. I'm just talking about don't evacuate. I feel like she's a player. Who i was as always remember that match. She had against in in wimbledon fees. Because that was such a fantastic match but don't really feel. I've heard a lot about her. Since then think i was. Maybe expecting a little bit more from her. In terms of you know performance particularly grand slam level. I think she's had know one quarter final appearance. I think that was back in two thousand and nineteen but now she's now reached the second week of all the grand slams and you can see in her you can see her on-court interview the that was a real milestone in a real achievement. 'cause she was fighting back the tears on on the on the court so you can see a lot to her and even think gonna rebecca even reaching the second week of a grad. Saab is is really impressive. If players is not all about. Oh can i with the trophy. There are different sorts of milestones. And you don't evacuate. She's she's really happy that she was able to come through a really tough opponent. Canopy and make the second week obsolete in going into i would've i would've picked connected to it and obviously it looked for a long time like she was going to dc. But i'm pizza. Always quite warmed to her. Say yeah. that's a nice. When the as as we said just of the matches today kind of straight-sets jennifer brady came through comfortably against van just gouda. She's continuing her a really good rana form..

"Coming into the French Open and I think that's why you're seeing seeing them prophet and a again we were talking before the cost basically point about the fact that it's great to see this because these players are you know they might not have reached this point. They might over even have this amount of prize money ever before Senate making the most of this. This we'd tournament making the most of these. This opportunity that everyone is GonNa, it's going to have to be. PEOP- pay people to fill the beats of. Yet that that going about it so. It's it's it's interesting. You know that no of course and not household names but. Yeah I'm sure that fear the Mugabe you know even further but you know we you know again, this will come seeing on instagram night Daniel fire he's one as much prize money I think in paying five hours of tennis at the French. Open this year that. He's done in the last seven years of his career. It's literally. It's not crazy. Daniel Altmeyer to win the French Open how Could you imagine that would really be the most strange thing ever ever to have happened. And actually talking about people doing well. Doing Pretty, well, go True Travek Lia in the third round Jackson Cinna chechen-aul. A former semi-finalist, his SINAGA and Larussa Bertini. So. Pretty decent for those guys, a tobacco is going to be playing Rafeh next a raffle came through against Mackenzie McDonald. Yesterday Nave which is also. One through extremely come to be today with the loss of five games he's reached his seventieth career when it and garrels now at Germany team who say cancer. Pretty Calm Against Jack. So so the the three candidates, the title if you like call. Strolling through at the moment dominate teams, Go Casper, Ruth Day tomorrow be quite interesting because he's been playing. Very well in the run up to you the tournament say quiet trade by that one but you reckon will we'll trouble him to route had a really topsy turvy second round match against told me pool which went five sets You told me pulls the body while because I, I actually think he's one of those rat Americans is is best surface I think is a clay-court A. Casper rude is GonNa be I think he's going to be quite tricky and definitely posts pro-putin but he's been able to. Given the lack of so time he's had to prepare for the French. Open he's navigated Chile, each tillach and. WHO's IT Kim who was the second round oak sorry Chile Jackson Pretty Well, that Jack sought match mean the third set I think went to a tie-break. So really pushing to take it to a full team was able to move get the job done. So yeah I mean it's not going to get easier for team I mean. It looks like he comes through he's got Vava rinker. In the fourth round and then even may be Dega Schwartzman lucky as well. So. he is going to be battle ready if he does get through to the to the business end of the talent to the near the semifinals say. We shall see but yet differently kind of a lot easier a lot more plain sailing. Fa Djokovic and an Raffarin that kind of second round matches I mean Jovic brand case was auden. I've my lunch break and in. The end of lunch break. Pretty much well as if a Bagel lost five games, seventieth career seventieth career, win at Revlon Garra. So I mean that game pursue while I'm sure we're going to be talking about the middle more if ever on. down. The line. So you know we shall see but some yeah, I mean CISA pass as well a lot more straightforward in his second round match about T-, surkey chronic pistole also through breath as well. You know the kind of I think all of the. Contenders and the DOT courses kind of making their way through kind of. kind of bubbling up nicely. But there is also, I feel some potential have some. Some first name is kind of. Like a check in auto run from a few years ago. Yeah, that's a good point not to there could be a rook rubric semifinalist lurking at PAPP's Pablo arena pasta can make it to. Actually he wings playing a next. All. Who is it? Because I was like, Oh, it's the battle of the ACRONYMS. Dovish mckean to turn up as well. As all the three. Three letter acronyms. But I. Think we should end today on Greco Dimitrov because he sneaked through actually into round three in straight-sets. Both of his much say quite noise but today I think the main thing was that he couldn't get his trousers off and. Had difficulty with his his his tracksuit bottoms, and if you saw. Me This is the best thing. The happens day. Watching, him try to his right trouser leg. You've his right shoe and then realizing he didn't have enough time and sort of. weirdly limping with one leg down on one leg up to the to the next the toying. The coin. Toss. Johnson laugh and yeah he's always kind of creating waves with his truck seeds isn't he? was talking about this before able that crazy I and now he's he's drawing more attention to the get off say that we route I mean he's he's going through. No one's really talking about him. So maybe maybe we're in for a number of Detroit run who knows but I'm sure we'll find out over the you know the coming days and yeah, you can stay tuned with us at the passing show for the rest of the tournament at remember to subscribe to us on wherever you are listening to us whether that's an apple podcast spotify overcast cost book. "I mean the Dow lost very few games. Didn't he? He was also playing somebody I think who is perfect for in a bit light jock of it yesterday in Macau in this was Mackenzie McDonald quite a similar plan away those two in the way that they play good baseline games but no real teeth to them and the Dow looked better than did on day one I thought. His his shots were going through the courts more. He just looked more comfortable not not no great surprise. Their team had Jack Sock to play in the first two sets were comfortable third-set. He actually had to save two points and and I think he would be pretty relieved team to have got out of there in three sets not because I think he was under threat of losing the match because if he's going to go all the way here, he's got to conserve some energy somewhere and his drawer is really tough. I actually think the one I'm impressed me the most was the. RINCA, and that's even though he lost set against Dominic Cup for that guy has had good recent results, but the rink has level again. Just. Made me think on the surface in these conditions, he looks really really dangerous him against team in the fourth round if that happens. Wow I mean that is a clash of titans and the way he responded to leasing set loose just a will that's not happening again. You can put away any hopes you've got if that being more than A. FLASH IN THE PAN BUDDY? He's got such confidence scoring for him seemingly out of nowhere buffering I mean he loves to Mazzetti in the first round of Roman I watched the first that match and he couldn't find the call of Rinca he was. He was really really bad and suddenly got to Roland Garros and he looks incredible and he's talking with confidence. He's he's really talking up his game talking up his chances thinking that he's feeling physically strong to go deep in this tournament Yeah. He was the one that really stood out for me the most kind of expected team in Nepal to be excellent and they were I think team is teams had something interesting that he he has really decided to copy Novak Djokovic in tiebreaks he said I've studied your conviction rights and he never makes any errors and he said I've I've really Sort of take that approach myself and it's and it's true. I was looking back on his record in tiebreaks this year and it's it's really really strong in the big matches in the slams and it was a tie-break today and that third against Jack sock and. You know that's that is smart I think from team and. He's he's becoming a player who I really trust in big moments and tight moments to get through them and knuckled down and not make errors and it was interesting that he is. He's he's consciously. Made. An adjustment in his game does so interesting that he said that because I was watching that. Thirds that against against Drexel today and I I got to the end of the action. I thought he probably would have lost that sen even maybe even a year ago an still would made through the mansion would've been talked about is still a contender for the title but that is a shift that that definitely is a shift in Dominic team the he doesn't lease these unnecessary sets he somebody that. Finds the GAYS WHEN HE NEEDS THEM To just navigate his way through these early rounds and get to where he's supposed to have maximum energy in the tank for. For for when he needs it and he he knows that matches lurking he absolutely knows that. Russia I think. More than any think that that's probably why I regard him as. More or less in the bracket with the big three. Now, in terms of being a contender full the major titles. We were watching commentating on Alexander's verbs matched tonight, which was five sets against Yuga. Baron he squeaked out a victory fairplay to him. He won another five set match he's loads of them but I was Thinking after his. Two cents to one up. If this was dominant team right now, he would become an all three as well. It become an and trying to head off for the next set. There'd be no relaxation there'd be no way back in for the opponent. The idea would be to crush every bowl and go four one up in the next ten minutes and it's over and still let's people back in your right cathrine dominant team used to play so many events and he used to have so many long matches and waste so much energy early on and have unnecessary defeats but it's kind of he's kind of just learned how to do it over the years and maybe it's also advice from Nicolas Massu the disappear to be an. An intensity about him all the time now. Rather. Than just select moments and. He seems to have the physicality to pull that off. I think he's He's I love that about him the intensity. It's slightly scares me but I mean I'm so impressed with it. But Dominic team. He's don't. You think the way it goes after the ball lucky wants to just. Kill it. Yeah. This contrast isn't it between his own COPA in of His tennis is. Fearsome on as a human being he seems. Not Fearsome. Well, he does seem very nice but then I think of when he stood up to being told to move rooms a year ago it's Children Chopin. It gets more Jodi. Every time didn't impact. It was Scotland. But. I but I like the fact I mean, okay it's not been nice. It's not nice being told that sort of stuff when you're just trying to organize the rooms and whatever I kind of like a play to show teeth a little bit not be pushed around Mary clearly finds He destroys the mall and I think that was the one thing that when. I. Was watching that match that slightly missing from Piero Bez game fangs I mean he is. He's a lovely tennis player and he's got such intelligence on a and he can move forward such good volume and he's a solid from the baseline but he's he's missing an ingredient type of trying to put my finger board. It was maybe a bit more power maybe a weapon. Well. Let's Fund. It got lockdown hair with alice bond and top not in psyches playing for Leeds does. Not a good thing around these potent. Sorry Chris Savory. A now you leads fan, but now we're not having it. Footballing General at the moment. But then I thought its fangs isn't it? I mean there was Alexander's verve was I hesitate to. Say that. On the court will no I mean I hesitate to say was there for the taking free because we've seen? This. So many times before I, mean has anyone ever made less of more when they're in a winning position. As you said, David I mean when he's in the lead, he doesn't hit the accelerator he gets he has more passive and it's weird because he hasn't got a bad record when he's in in front, he ends up winning gets there in the end but isn't I mean it isn't half unconvincing and you just thinking if. I had some fangs. He would have won that match and I think you could. Also be. You could apply that to the number of the players that were faced in the US Open as well. They're also very familiar. Maybe that was why it was weird. Grand, Sam Day because it was very, very normal Alexander. Zverev match is funny. I was watching that much feeling. I really enjoyed it and I, I was impressed by the the fighting Zverev in daily anyone ever downs how much he wants it and I always enjoy watching in somebody somebody that just isn't prepared to filter how much a they wanted But I was pretty underwhelmed by the level of tennis. Yes. Pir Berries lovely watched. But there is something frustrating about that lack of killer instinct and with those this lack of bite in in. So much of his tennis. So many of his groundstrokes just lacking conviction He he can. He can hit them with conviction and every now, and then you'll have this moment anything, right? Yeah. We'll. The will realize on verve please stand up but I do end up feeding a underwhelmed quite the time but then I I I was switching between the US bought and the IT. Coverage of the match because they take breaks at different times sometimes say when one gates who outbreak all they'll switch over to the other one And they had jim courier and for be Santoro in commentary on TV and Jim Courier was with saying.

"Think I would too. All right scrap that one. boob lick versus Senegal. Good match. I was GONNA say it was like that's a sneaky good second round match. An and like. Both of them are better on other surfaces even the Senegas? Italian finless done. Okay. On clay that right didn't even. Though. They're both better on other surfaces, but it's still gonna be a solid clay-court match. Yeah. I don't think that it's best on clay. He's just like an awkward player. Certainly isn't but. We've got some momentum that. He made the most lucky loser be mafia so I'll take Bouba. I'll take as much as I. Love Sasha, bubbles on the last episode of NC are actually I'll take go because I. think if we let down Matra public s still that is appointment listening I haven't listened to. People have enjoyed it. Obviously, Gavin roll-over versus Bouchard Mile, wildcard? Genie Chard. When he matches, it slammed first time while protected ranking Dr Gabriella. Have to say it's surprising that this is the second match Oh. Yeah. Both unlikely entrance and second round, and it's even more surprising that genie's opponent is the one who is even less likely to be in the second round hard. To do genie at, I don't know people noticed, but she made a final of Istanbul tournament. Yeah. That's open beating insensitive I'll take genie Bouchard I seriously cannot not believe governor level on that match two days ago. Yeah. I'm inclined to take Bouchard too I. Think she's got a lot more per of momentum. So take sharp off the table merit ca few more here to go sets one by Tommy Paul Against Casper Rude. Zero Point Five? I'll take the under. That's GONNA be a straight set for rude he's bowling right now I will take over I think that Tommy will have focus for one set. Of that much. Right he's. Pretty. Good on clay one of the few. Americans he in San Antonio. Junior champ of the French friendship. All. Right. Next one beating Taylor its final sets one bike qualifier Sarah Irani. Currently ranked one fifty against number five Kiki Burton's and I would point out that Sarah Ronnie is five and Oh in her career against Kiki? Burton's. Despite the one, hundred and forty five ranking gap currently. Zero Point Five sets or Sarah Ronnie will she went to said Can we do an over under slowest serve miles per hour If, that, if if we had the full IBM, Max would absolutely do that. That'd be good filing. We have that at this tournament. I can't believe Ani's in the second round. Elsa I'll take the under. Over. Over I'm okay with that. All right last one, this is a this is some math involved here. Unless starts this is the last one of the non predictive Thursday. Sets one in singles. On Wednesday by American men. And the American men who were playing are Taylor Fritz against Roger Abbott. Tommy Paul Versus Casper Rude. Jack sock versus team. Mackenzie McDonald's isn't the doll and then the twist Korda is ner playing each other. I have the lines that at six point, five, six, point five actually that already seems low I mean we were just seven point five and put it said five 'cause I do think for it's GonNa win probably against think I think for its is GonNa win to. Instill. A. Now like I also think it's GonNa. Win So that's three. Everyone, else is going to lose them straight. So that means is ner in Korda would have to go five to go over this line correct yeah. I don't think that's GONNA go five I'll take the under I think over seven point five. Seven point five. For instance game three I think is ner and a quarter is going to go to four I. think everyone else poses rate. See I'm nervous about free. I could see her straight setting Korda which makes me nervous about this. and. So that comes that I'm Kinda screwed but. I think Paul will get against rude I think I think Fritz will get three so feel okay about this. McDonald get set. It'd be wild. All right. The next one you might need to look at the draw for these next three these last three. About the Thursday schedule. So the order of this will be creating the order plays come out tomorrow Wednesday for Thursday. Okay. So yeah, it's a bet for Wednesday placements. Yeah. All right will. Catch off at versus vassily. Be placed on Matthew or better. Basically will be the top three courts or not. Wow there will be original assignments if it gets relocated that doesn't count. But so basically, we're looking for catching off vassily will be one of those three basically will be a top six men's match. Tomorrow we're looking for do women's and men's on each court every day. Will it be considered a top six-match. Right, I can tell you I believe that veteran is Asari. See me seeming believe that hatchet off is the sixth highest rank man playing tomorrow. Arts are on Thursday. So joke of issues be playing, Bertini, will be playing. Possibly playing rube level be playing shop evolved we playing other factor I point out here is that off did win bear see relatively recently, and sometimes the French Open does like to acknowledge Peres success. In a weird way and is done decently issue at the French Open before. So will he be a one of those topic courts against Eerie vessels, which should be a good match for to. Trump. Good there's a good prop. As was the American number of sets. One that was also good. So. Basically comes down to hatching off or Dmitrov. Is My thinking yeah I think you do. In a pretty, not interesting matching. It's Andrea Martin. Yeah I mean Martinsburg small name, but he's actually good at the French. Open Muster. Around. That one year if I'm not mistaken I, think you're right. and He's certainly not annihilated Sousa. Ask, tough I mean Dmitrov a bigger name than hatch even though he's ranked lower. Like you said, had no been no French. Open success speak for Dmitrov in his legacy there. I'll take what what is. There's also the sleeper alive each Anderson pick, which may be some consideration as thing Anderson was too far off the map right now got hatches only fifteen seed. Yeah I think. Dmitrov. Is GonNa get I'll take the worse than seem Okay I'll take over. Okay with over. Finding either way there the next one on this level. Same question better worse than Simone Matthew on the women's side for Elena Rebecca..
"mackenzie mcdonald" Discussed on No Challenges Remaining
"Welcome to new challenges remaining on day three of the twenty twenty you know day three of the twenty twenty French Open coming so fast and then Rothenberg on what was the final round of the day I. can't talk at all final day of the first round of the French Open. How about that on day three? Ricky diamond is here back on the show very frequent guest usually around this time of year ricky when you're in DC at so you're going to be on the show here trying to replicate what we normally do at the French Open but I ricky thanks for being here. Yeah. Thanks for having me bizarre that usually in DC running the marathon announced French Open. I know it's all been weird. I mean I was. Just like how does this French Open field to you so far? I gotta say it feels between like the roof and especially the lights which are adding night matches, which never were thing previously at the French Open and it being in September October it feels like an entirely different tournament like I don't recognize much this French Open at all. Jopin. Yeah I mean it's it's bizarre like like you said by the roof and the night matches like it's just like even weirder than we thought it was going to be and plus it's like freezing everyone's bundled up and yeah. Yeah it's so bizarre and then just like in the broader like sports were by it's going on at the same time it was like the Stanley Cup finals in the NBA finals the baseball actually usually happens we're late. Yes same. Finals. Yeah. So it's just weird everything's going on. It's just bizarre. Stem, NFL. It just feels like it feels way more different from the normal tournament. Than the US, open did US Open. I thought was much more recognizably US Open the terminus French. Yeah having I mean, both is bizarre with no fans like the atmosphere at the US Open was just totally different because. Usually. Night matches their out of control. So that was. That was kind of striking. Agree that this is. French Open just wild. What do you think of the level of tennis so far I mean I think it's been pretty good. All things considered. Pretty entertained by a couple of minutes five-setters CINCY possum. It was actually really high quality. TEIGEN'S G Estino Steno yeah. Yeah. That was a wild one in the quality was messy good throughout that I mean a lot of entertaining ashes so far. So given the circumstances, it's not bad good. Stuff will actually have a question ask he later in today's show up the Justino he's GonNa come up in what were you gonNa we're trying to replicate here normally French Open time when. It's the one slam that I stat with friends ricky and I have stayed the same house there. The last several years along with Courtney a couple other people You may know or may have been on the show at various times, and so we're GonNa try to replicate what we usually do at the kitchen table each night there in that house or sometimes the kebab place. Blocks away debating basically making our predictions learning out over weird details of the next day's play prop bets basically these are. By the way I was thinking I was saying my late late it's about place would have been this year with. Lights in the roof like play with would have ended like midnight and we'd be at the KEBAB place like four. Am Well I. Think the lights are going to be a pretty permanent change. Right? Lights are not in a what I'm thinking. So they're not gonna be from now on we're going to be. The push for late night dining options in Bologne billancourt is going to be even more extreme than it is already. Pizza. Place we found is going to be crucial that the kebab place, which is a little hit myth last year, but generally pretty good did these things will be crucial. So normally we we have the next order play and we look and figure out things are going to happen and we wait we do this as we come up with basically an odd number of things we disagree on the who who wins the next day's props. So hopefully, this makes sense as we go along for people were. Pretty different kind of. Florida prediction making. What would do on the show but I was looking to order play came up with twenty five possible things for us to possibly disagree on. If we don't if we can't reach a disagreement on them, we can't figure out some way to predict different outcomes with relative confidence. Then we will scrap that one. So a lot of spares in here not expecting to actually institute all twenty-five maybe we'll narrow it down to like thirteen fifteen tonight that ideally but one have a lot of spares and give people a sense of how they work. So the first one I have ricky to get right into it is in the twelve time champion Rafael Thirteen this year against protected ranking entry Mackenzie McDonald. I Have Games won by McKenzie McDonald as our first one and I will start the bidding for you at eight point five, which basically means do you forgo hit on how the point fives and the the betting works if Ricky thinks canton will win eight or fewer games he will take under if you think so when nine or more games he will go over So that that is the first lineup suggesting and if we if we if I, don't feel comfortable taking on the other like I'd be okay with either side of this one can say right now but we can sort of adjust massage the number as it goes. So Ricky, what are your thoughts is I thought that I? I offer I have to say that's a good line eight point five. Basically, that basically means like a two three and three would be under right? Yeah. Three, three, three, three, three, three, and three would be over for McDonald. Yeah. Three three and threes blow out Nidal lost eight to garage Zima of. Here that I think he those ten maybe no. Lost Ten four point two. Yeah. But he's a big hitter than MacDonald MacDonald basically got a bye in the first round against D as. Man. I think I think I would go over eight point five just you know the conditions aren't that good for Nidal I. Got I. Don't know if he's completely wipe out like a consistent baseline like Donald. Yeah. Yeah I will take the under good I was going to take you to one of those I'm okay with that. Okay. All right. Guard, that was a good start we're off to broaden running I'll recap all these at the end now, and I will also the other thing we'll do is post all these on twitter and our Patriot guys play along make your own picks and we'll keep scores and see how does hopefully get picks in in time for played starter close enough to it. Next one, I have number two is fewer games lost tomorrow dominant team versus Jack sock or Sasha's Vera versus Pierre Air Bear. Who will lose fewer games. Just pick pick teams I think Dominic team will lose fewer games. that. Expand your thoughts and it will be even in these conditions better on clay than Zverev. and. I mean soccer's sake like. Yeah, he won his first round match but. Is Still Jack sock like he's not the player was two, thousand, seventeen. He was first round.

"For me too I barely year where is the last three years my college Guerrero's basically number one in the country all through through the majority of the time for those three years. So it took me a good while to get used to and I didn't do anything really that. Impressive my freshman year I'm you know one the regionals when I got here but that was about it So it was definitely a transition. So all of that that was hard to get used to and then need changing a bunch of stuff in my game and getting used to the hardcore because you know back in Denmark replay outdoor clay, we don't really have any outdoor hard. So that was also thing to get used to but once you know I, Kinda settled in my, I got my second year going at it. was. A lot easier on the but definitely the pressure of playing one my freshman year was was intense. 'cause I didn't WANNA. Let anybody down I didn't WanNa let my coaches down and make him feel like they have recruited this guy from from. Northern. Europe. Who couldn't who couldn't live up reputations Orissa Every week was was a was a battle against my own mentality, all end and the pressure and everything. But I believe that that is part of what made me successful. Now if you want call it bad whatever is that the pressure you know you're able to handle that pressure, you feel that pressure every week and Challenger and so on. So I, feel like at the end of the day is helped tremendously in the transition to the pro. Well, I Just. Went bad there but you say for a new, you're number one NC, the Labor will you number one for three years? The majority of its I think a little bit into my sophomore year I broke number one and then. I was pretty much of the rest of the year. I did lose a match at home or away really for my entire junior season. So more the majority of those two and a half three years I was number one year where I was there effort like who is a Mackenzie McDonald? Did He do here on he decided to go pro will you ever sane number one haired? I'm not too good for this. I'm going pro that ever enter your mind it did by the end of my junior year whether I was. Going to come back to my senior year looking back at it I definitely made the right decision to stay because I got all these contacts and got the setup going in Columbus that allowed me to be am right now but it definitely crossed my mind I mean my I believe was September of my sophomore year when the first Columbus Challenger will stare and I got a wildcard and I ended up winning beating you know Polanski Sang Grin and Benjamin Becker in the final there I had no ranking and I just immediately. Jumped to top three hundred. So right off that I definitely thought about going pro butts. You know a bunch of factors played into me staying and I definitely think made the right decision staying and and now you know I'm I'm I was career-high before corona on. had a really good streak at the beginning of the year going and. Unfortunately up to pull out of the last tournament that I felt really confident into So I think I, I made the right decision Dan North definitely. Looks like the. And in the meantime you call the Tennessee, get a call up to play some Davis Cup for Denmark and you playoff the dial. Tell me what was it like Bean Young College kid having to meet the legendary the Dow. Come true ever since I was very young You know I've looked up to the guy I admire his mindset more than anyone's it doesn't matter to him food he's playing he's playing or any like what tournament slang or or what the matches no matter what the guy's playing the next point like it was this last that I admire that so much. So going into that match, I was extremely excited I got to take time off from college to go back and play a both net al and for David David. Baron. Those two matches. But it's funny I remember still. Going back there and and I, let me put it this way. I don't think of ever had so many people tell me congratulations for getting my ass kicked before. You did a good job at that match. Still that's that's still haunts me a little bit because they were all in the first and I had I believe three break points to to be able to serve the first set home, and honestly that was a huge turning point in my career. I, actually often the match remember even though the the to law sets clever. into the mirror and I said, honestly, this is the first time. I truly believe I have a chance at making it s a successful ten splur- like I had never really been given the thought that they had already. I always just showed up and played but that was the first time I really really believed that I had a chance to to make an. That was just such a cool experience hearing Rothesay ads is going to be good and and all this stuff after the match in him. Just you know figuring out that these guys are human too and that I can play with them and and all this stuff is just it was a it was a life changing experience for me where was the match in Democracy Spain? Yes it was in Denmark. Oh, case at a crowd helped you a little bit there. Definitely definitely. So four all breakpoints you say you're cool under pressure Howard narrows it was actually at that point in the match it was. Great I felt really in the phone in the beginning like before the match I wasn't nervous at all night before anything because I think it was so star struck but. I remember the nerves hitting the at one specific point and it was him serving the first game of the match and I'm like thinking to myself Oh. Wow. Like I'm actually about to return and start the match against the doll. besides that as the as I held the two games kind of easily I I believe also I had like fifteen or twenty in the first set. So that might have helped a little bit but my serve was on point and and that kind of helped my nerves what I'm when I feel like I have a good disturbing day it's easier for me to to kind of contain my nerves and to go for more in his service games and that kind of stuff. So that's what problem in that situation and then you know, I, just have to say for an off because all three break points I had. There was nothing I could do with the guy played. One to ten is just heads really good for servant and knocked off the second ball. So I. It's not like I bricked up all your something to approaching but you know I want to stand in that situation again I do believe I've gotten a lot better as a tennis player. I think mentally physically even gamewise wise I would love to stand and the same scenario, and that's why I. Put in the work every day to to be able to do from a mental point of view, go back to that much against Rafa and your plane Rafeh at the French this year first round your John again throughout at the French. How has your mentality changed in a situation like that I think that just a maturity level also having the experience of one year on the tour of going through the college just knowing game better I think out be a love more comfortable and I mean at the friends just a little spicy you know. Out Sorry. Attending other services I got rather Blair on. Let's say fast indoor. On, carpet. So French may be a with the I would hope that I was serving extremely well that day but I think just mentally I have a different point of view on it. I play my patterns better..

"Enough. Mackenzie mcdonald? And finally a protest. There has been filmed eating raw pig's hat outside a vegan festival. The man was surrounded by pro vegan activist waving meat is murder. Lacquer outside veg fast. Eat fast in Brighton as he ate the flesh. Organizers of the festival said the man had been part of a planned demonstration by carnivores some meat eating members of the public who saw his protests that they were sticking by seeing the faces of the animals they eat. For all the latest, headlines and information. Sportscenter on ESPN radio all throughout the day. So quote down the stretch try to come in and help us as much as possible, we should've probably trapped Kemba a little more like every team does in the league. But we didn't torches us every time we play him. So it's no surprise people are taking Kyrie Irving and saying that that is criticism of Brad Stevens is scheme. What do you think? They're STAN when he says of Kemba Walker scoring thirty six points. We should have probably trapped him a little bit more like every team does in the league. But we didn't tortures us every time we play them. So it's no surprise. Yeah. I mean it is criticism. But it's pretty mild. It's nothing Brad. Stevens is going to worry about Norwood any coach. It's not a big deal. I mean, he didn't like go off on Brad. Stevens was one minor point. So. I don't think there's a big deal. There might be a minor point. But the last drop in the bucket can be small and still make the bucket overflow. Like he has been. That's a good point. I mean, he has been the season. Like, he won't shut up every time. They lose you get something like this out of him. And I found it jarring a little fun that team is having and that it's always talking about how not fun. It is. Yeah, we'll look I mean, I think Kyrie is feeling the heat a little bit in that. This is a guy who wanted this situation where he was unquestionably the guy and was going to make the team go. They went to the conference finals without him. They're struggling with him. There's people starting to question whether or not Kyrie Irving is good enough to be an has the leadership characteristics to be the guy who can who can lead a team deep into the playoffs. And. So he's making sure over the course of the year that he can throw everybody else under the bus. To make sure everyone knows it's not his fault. He doesn't and he's not going to. And the Celtics seemed to have a lot of fun when Kyrie Irving wasn't there last year in the playoffs. That's when they had the most fun to two years. He's been there. The most fun. The Celtic team has had STAN is when Kyrie was on the bench watching them get to the Eastern Conference finals. Yeah. But but to be fair, I it's always easier and thus more fun win the expectations are low and you're playing with house money so to speak. As compared to the expectations that there were on the Celtics with kyri and with Gordon Hayward coming back, and they haven't been able to, you know, be overwhelmingly good. And so people have been down on them throughout the year. And that takes away a lot of the fun. So you can't put all of that on Kyrie. It's not him being there necessarily that takes away from the fun of the game. It's the fact that you can't meet expectations and last year in the playoffs. They had no expectations. Let's do something fun and funny here funniest thing from the sports weekend..
