El Salvador Announces National Bitcoin Wallet
"Now to the other side of this peak. Twenty twenty one moment el salvador. Well the initial reaction to the el salvador news was jubilation among bitcoin. There have been some questions for international observers particularly those invested in the current fiat system. The concerns around environment crime that you would expect. We're all aired out. Libertarian minded global audiences. Meanwhile took umbrage with the compulsion inherent in the legal tender law. These folks argued in effect that forcing people to accept. Bitcoin was at odds with bitcoin locally. It seemed some people had the same concerns although it was less from. Some deep seated libertarian principles and more from practical questions about how it would actually work. What sort of additional infrastructure or processes it would take and what if someone didn't wanna deal with bitcoin volatility. I think the best way to give you. The flavor of last night's speech to actually use pull quotes as translated by alejandro machado. A honda is a co founder of the open money initiative and has been working on bitcoin and places like venezuela for years so as a particularly good source he tweets as address to the nation thread quote. Bitcoin will be optional. Nobody will receive bitcoin if they don't want it. There's no obligation to express any price in bitcoin. But it's possible to do so. The state will accept bitcoin for payments. If you don't wanna do this don't because currency so there will now be no capital gains taxes on it same as with dollars euros etc now. Article seven the opposition has demonized so much. Every economic agent must accept bitcoin as a means of payment. We can't take this article out of context. You also have to look at article. Eight and fourteen economic agents are obligated to accept bitcoin but not to accept it when a tourist from europe comes into wipes a card he or she will be spending euros but we are charging him dollars. This is what will happen with bitcoin. A tourist pain. Btc and if the merchant wants dollars it will get dollars. The government wallet will have to account one dollars in another and bitcoin the government while it will not use up any data all you need to use. The government wallet is a mobile internet signal.

'Dancing With the Stars': '80s Night
"Dancing with the stars. So it was eighties night, which meant a great deal of bad hair a great deal. Male and female bad hair bad here all the way around bad here for the host bad here for everybody. And costumes of exceptional cheesiness. And for Justina Machado, having to give herself a shower onstage. Stay true to flashdance you suffer for your art girl you go. And dancing that was. Generally not great but. Colorful. Shiny colorful. and. Harry. Yes Fair so much. So what did you think anything stand out to you. I quite liked Nieves quickstep it got dissed by the judges and I. Agree I thought that was good I liked. Watching Nellie tonight I did too. I pretty much enjoyed them all along. I. Think he's looked like he's throwing himself into it gratifying way but tonight was particularly good. Yeah I. It's not that I haven't liked him in the past I just thought that he he did a good job tonight. Yes. So he was fine. I don't know I did Kaitlyn. Doing the Tango. I didn't that didn't seem like a Tango Song Me Song. I. Think Law now with their like revenge of the nerds costs on. That didn't make any sense to me like no. The three, you know the combination of dance style music and production design was yes. Wacky and then yes, I had the same issue with this as I did with the Disney night. Songs, which is when they're all king played by Rachel live. Stay sound weird. Songs you've been hearing for. Forty years. Yeah that is that is distressing. I did like justinas downs and just because I'm predisposed to earn about what? And I liked AJ? Well it was hard to overlook the preponderance of bad hair. And I don't know how well his dancing necessarily was, but that's such. A Nice be wall song and Shirl was just had that big dress was just swooping all around. So beautifully, I really enjoyed watching that. Yeah. Yeah. Like a particularly good. You know wedding dance maybe look they practiced huge. So I would just you know done without all the hair extensions but okay. by I thought that was a really pretty down. So I give them some parts. For that Nice, and also just because Aj seems to be having a really good time and throwing himself into the. Spirit of the Mirror Ball. So I appreciate that I will give points for that. Yeah. Although I do I feel like most everybody is except for Jesse who said goodbye tonight? I think I may not. That was a merciful elimination though I shall be sorry to not see much Sharon in her pink hair. Yes but Yeah, he seemed like. that he is maybe than thinking better of this. This little plan. Yeah. Someone. Had for him right exactly. So, yeah. I don't think he's GONNA be bad. I hope not but Yeah. It was. It's an interesting group because there's nobody that really stands out as being pretty exceptional I mean. Johnny. Is Probably the best dancer, but he's not this kind of dancer and so yeah if you give them a contemporary teen that's right up his alley. Does well, but he's not going to do well at the ballroom. It doesn't seem right. So and there's some people who have a little bit certainly I'm sure the cheerleading coach has a movement experience need was talking about his experience. But there's nobody there's no ringers I. Don't think. Yeah. They all have a certain degree of uncertainty and counting. With, panicked is there dancing. So you know in various degrees of their pro yelling at them right? Well they're moving. Right. So it's it's kind of refreshing, but also makes it less exciting to watch. But. Holy Cow, the fake audiences excited. And they get mad when Do. Booing of the judges we know it's you know it's not humans stop at. Stop, that's reliant. Stop ferries to knock applause just I keep I keep getting into it and then realizing wait a minute. This is out of the CAN. But somebody's having a good time. There's somebody in the control room who is just having a ball. And I salute that person right? They are burning their paycheck. Hoots this is this is one we need the boost this favorite people clapping along yes. Yikes. They have something that's on the be where they can do that. Same Yeah. Well, I was complaining about this to my husband and he says, Oh yeah, they're doing that with baseball too. So I guess fake cheering yes. I was actually I noticed that the other day we were watching a game. Is, is that fake stand noise that they're doing? So, apparently, we are not to be trusted to. On our own without the sounds of other humans it would just be to ghostly. K.. Twenty twenty so. Heck Yeah. Stream. screamingly weird and you know we can continue to just. BE ANNOYED AT TIRA wasting time spending like half a minute talking to Nellie about arcades like s if anyone's GonNa talk let it be the celebrity themselves or let him read the judges like don't rush them right right through their critique only. So you can reminisce about arcades like yes. Yes. Don't rush into the critique in also A. Used to be on this show that there was time for the eliminated couple to say goodbye there was even a time where I believe they got a little last dance or like a little montage or something. Yeah. Yeah yes. If you could take all of the inane questions, you might have enough time for a proper sendoff or at least smile wave. Yeah, I guess they feel that they're outsourcing the send off to GM, and so it doesn't they don't need to do it here but they need to do it here because I'm GonNa Watch that right and it's just such a bum's rush every week. At least leave probably don't have to get on an airplane and fly to New York to Jimmy this year I'm hoping they letting them do it virtually. No may be so. Yeah everything is. Not, yet somehow I have not yet adjusted my thinking to realize that everything is that way, right? So. Yeah. That's probably right. Well. I don't know a theme nights like this are not my favorite. Especially when they just The. Speaking of the dials they turn up the cheesiness dial two, twelve year I just would rather have pretty costumes and hair and. You know dances that just exists to be a pretty dance

Dodgers Out-Slug Padres to Win High-Scoring Affair
"A stunning finish on the double play off the bat of the former dodger manny. Machado as the dodgers hold on at pet, go to win seven six, they win the series as well over the Padres, two games to one John Shea Jim Russell back with you here on the wrap up show, we said the padres lead baseball by the way and runs per game last. Last segment. They entered the day third in runs per game at five, and a half runs per game on the season and against scored six runs here today. So they've been very, very good offensively. But again, with the loss, they fall to seven and six on the season. Let's hear from the manager who was jacked for the first time in his career. Here's Jay Taylor game. Yeah, it's always good to see. You know the guys continue to battle and. You. Know we've we. Kind of felt that you know inside the. In the DUGOUT when we've been down never really feel like we're out of it and you know get get the heart of the order up and chance to you know always be in the game and. You know look at the end Mandy you know squared a ball up to to left field and and They made a hell of a play I. Mean it was A. Had to be you know a perfect throw and it was a perfect one hop throw and a intact. So but dancer question Yeah. It's. It's good to see him battling back and chip away and. You know we. You know we we came up short. Your first managerial ejection tonight. That's something that had been building up over the course of the game with Margaret Mature, as more of a spur of the moment reaction to that dish. Now. It's a, it's not built up minutes. Look. I think manny thought the ball was down I. thought it was down and. You know it either I go with me and he goes I'm guessing. So it's simple as up. Your thoughts on how? To. Handle. I thought you know Came in You know we were looking for a little softer landing but. The NFL west, there's there's no soft landing especially with the dodgers and. looking for a spark and. He gave up to ground balls got through and and then obviously Peterson clicking man you know. Peterson Click a couple balls tonight. You know and. But but I was impressed with how he went back out in the second inning and. I thought that was good and it's always nice to kind of You know finish on a on a higher note, and hopefully he gets some confidence and you know continues to go forth. Interesting admission there from JAS Tingler. We were hoping for a softer landing for Luiz Patino. Remember we heard yesterday literally yesterday when he was called up, he would not initially be pitching and high leverage spots. He makes his Major League debut, not not with the lead, but trailing four too. So you could argue the leverage component of it, but Jim again, he went left left right left with the VP that a left-wing cory seager who's read hide Jock Peterson three homers in the series including the homerun again. Again Against Patino and again, you're going to have to get him at one point or another. If you call them up, there's a reason you call it Emma but Jeez in the history of big league debuts, can it be much more difficult for Patina than the inning he had to deal with there could not have been more difficult. You're facing an MVP facing the guys at thirty six bombs last year who was notorious for being i. mean you saw in the home run Derby last year he. Is. Ball's. Chris Taylor their professional hitter. It's not an, there's no easy ways to face the dodgers especially in a four two game. You put him in there hopefully to have Jason, Taylor said this thing and there by the way it's four nothing before with two outs, TAT tease homers. So all of a sudden the dynamic of the game has changed it's chain, but but seniors already ready like you've already said he's GonNa Pitch the sixth, right? Like you wonder again at four nothing there you go. Down seven nothing whatever. But at fourteen like well, I'm back in the game and you don't want him to get up and then sit down again and I'm sure that's the reason why they put them in the game like look he's already ready. Maybe. It might be not the best time to put him in. But look, we just hit a two run bomb to to get us going hopefully and putting a guy in there where he is one of if not the top prospect on this in this organization, hopefully, we can get another spark on this guy route that is

Now, the pitch a slider just missing on the inside that Again that was very close to being a strike up about belt high, maybe even a little bit of both. Call the ball one ball once right? "We got Machado. And once again, the narrative of the pitching was overshadow. Hopefully this year is even not us fact that our pitching's outstanding. It's deep and deep. Yeah. It it's the depth of it. That is is really sure you know, what the story is going to be this year. And it's not gonna be the pitching, Cory Seager. It's they lost Manny Machado loss teams. Like a exactly the this is not a they pursued him in Manny Machado opted to go to San Diego. This was a World Series ends shake hands. Look them in the is it many. Thank you for everything. Thank you. We wouldn't be here. Without you. Really? Appreciate everything you've done. Good luck. Have fun Petco. Right. Right. That that's not a good. That's going to be. Corsi? If Cory Seager when the MVP only it'd be shocked. He's that good of a player. No, no. We wouldn't be shocked. We make it back to third straight World Series, though. Even with a healthy pitching rotation. Even with Seger teams still making the three World Series in around. It's very very rare. And I forced to pick. I think I would agree with you. But then a hairs what I'll flow who's better in the National League than them. I don't I don't know if there's a team that's better just on paper. And that doesn't mean a whole bunch, but at the jump I don't know if there's anybody maybe the cubs are on equal footing a threat to our through good the Phillies should be better with Bryce Harper. They seem to be on the ascent at the end of last season. But the dodgers are certainly no worse than any other team in the National League at least on paper. I would agree with that. All right, Lonzo he cut ties with the big baller brand. This mean first career, we'll tell you next..

"This is I think you prefer. The other in the outfield. You don't really care. You know? I think Senator fields the most fun. Everyone says the easiest to play. Yeah. You get the best if he can run and play it. Right. Exactly. And and obviously there's the most space out there. But you can see location of and the break on the pitch you see swings better. So that's that's that's why it's the easiest have you? Obviously as everyone knows Mike is a guy who comes from a a great background as far as great athletic background with his parents. Are you happy with what you've accomplished so far? Are you wanting for more? You gotta say, hey, look what I've accomplished in four years here. You know, I've had this year had that. Yeah. I did some big things, you know, people expect a lot from are you are you content with that or not content with what you've accomplished? I can't say that. I am content. You know, I think. I've been left with less than I set out for each of those four years, you know, we get so close to winning the World Series. Led most of those games. Most most innings in those games came up short next year. I got sent down twice the year after that was a great year. But, but you know, left with that injury. And then last year was was part of the year was great part of the year wasn't so great. So. I've reached some milestones. I've reached the big leagues. Probably a little bit quicker than I anticipated. And I've been in this league for for three years plus four years. I guess I've been in the big leagues. And and so those are some milestones and a proud of. But I'm still hungry. You know, I want to get a lot better. I think there's a lot of room for me to grow. There's a lot of guys that I can learn from in this clubhouse. So. I won't be satisfied until we're the last team standing, you know, the one thing that has been pronounced as you've had a couple of slumps that will long a couple of prolonged slumps. Are you really hard on yourself when you get in a slump? You beat yourself up with the first choice where you were very young the second one. I thought was more probably injuries than anything else says you weren't you play into suing last year. It was at that. Or you just real hard on yourself Dr to slump. I think everybody beats him up. We are all competitors. We're all perfectionists in some ways. We we want to see the ball land in the grass, we wanna see Atlanta seats. So nobody's harder on our on, you know, on us than ourselves. But what I've learned over the over. The course of four years I've been in the big leagues is it's those guys that stay on that even kill, you know, whether they're mega confident, you know, the the Bryce Harper Machado Machado's, you know, those guys or you're the Mike trout just steady right in the middle. You know, those guys that stay in the middle. They don't get too high. They don't get too low. They stay at the same level. And so that's what I've learned from from from watching some great players. You're a veteran guy here who is a big Coggin in this thing. I mean, they're not doing anything without you. You're right in the middle of their plans right in the middle of the lineup got London faces. Now this year they brought in a catcher they brought in Kano. They brought in the closer. They brought familiar bat. They've in some offensive guys. They brought in some guys the play on the infield. They got a couple of youngsters coming up from the minor leagues. Who hope? Can hit a different group? Very different. Maybe some better depth the baby little longer lineup. What what do you sense when you look at this group this year, a lot of new faces lot of new faces on the front office in the training staff and the medical staff, obviously, the clubhouse like we said earlier, I think lagaras is the longest tenured met now. So. You know, I think I see a lot of very very good players. Very very good workers. Robinson can no surprises me every day with with the extra work that he does. His ability to to bring Rosario along with them. Peter Lonzo the everybody gravitates toward this guy. In in brief conversations. You know, we got a lot of guys right now. So it's tough to really get a lot of time with with the guys that are going to be going with this New York. But. Just good guys. I mean, just. Less. You got really ugly for a while you play through all that. And then late in the season. I know everyone's ignoring you guys ended that point. But you guys played hard and played pretty well. The second list fifty games or so after having a dreadful stretch there for a couple of months where men you were the only guy was doing anything offensively. You weren't your numbers were Nimick as a team that was a tough time to go through. And you guys came out the other side of it at least and didn't stop playing. I mean that was that anything you gain anything from last is experience. So I think we took some pride, you know, as as the young young core was was was able to kind of play together a little bit in that second half, June was June was tough man, June was was a grind. But. You know, we we kind of looked around. And we we said, hey, we got fifty games left. You know, sixty games left. Let's make the most out of this. Let's let's win as many games as we can. Let's do some things as a team. Let's let's try to be a little bit better with that situational hitting put the ball in play do some things on the basis and play good defense. And I think, you know, we rallied around, you know, maybe just just a little thing or may not a little thing. But degrom in that race for the Cy Young. I mean we wanted to put up runs for him. We wanted to put bronze for great starting staff that helps a lot when you. Oh, yeah. Unbelievable, great starting staff, and you know, so I think we rally around each other a little bit, you know, being a young court and guys that we've played together for for a long time in the minor leagues. You know with all this stuff that goes on now with the shifts and everything else, and the all the analytics, you guys been around sports your whole life. Have you changed your approach with all that stuff has made? You change your approaches ahead do things the same way. Well, it's something that I want to work on for sure. When I when I see Robinson. You know, just hitting a line drive right through that whole a few times this spring. You know, I think that's a that's a big part of the. Do that. He said it to me they said he was working in you, can and you can tell that. He's he's looking at go that way, you can see it in the way, he works in the cage, you can see it. And he you know, he he takes pride in being able to manipulate that barrel and shoot the ball. The other way. I think you know, I can definitely use a little bit of that in my game. You know, not so much homerun or nothing. You know, let's take with the pitcher gives us and. Team stay away from left handed hitters a little bit too. I think it really is having a right handed hitters in the lineup. Yeah. I mean, keep keep two guys on each side of the infield. And you gotta righty up there. But. You know, I think that's definitely something that we as a team can adopt and try to work on. And I think that's the mentality that Mickey and chilly and Brody are trying to help us with is is let's be a little bit more team oriented. You know, we don't we don't gotta hit the ball in the seats. Every time we we can play baseball. We can play small ball times and beat the teams that just want to hit the ball and seats. Well, listen to stay healthy this year. Thanks for a couple of minutes. Always a pleasure. Thank you, Mike. Appreciate it. Mike. Michael Conforto back after this. Thank you. Calling all wine lovers. Come out to Meadowlands.

"Would you do that? Where you didn't get the ten because now this is all about the average salary that you're going to get each year. It might not be the totality of this that over three hundred million dollars. Because that's that's what Scott Boris is up against Machado got three hundred what Bryce Harper's better than Manny Machado, these more marketable than Manny Machado. He deserves more than Manny Machado would've. Nobody's going to give you that. Because the Phillies are giving you an offer that it looks like you can refuse because I don't think Bryce Harper wants to play in Philadelphia. I think he liked the offer from Philadelphia feels like he's not or can't go back to the nationals. And then you start to shop the offer. And then you're going, wait a minute. I got crickets out here. Hey, scott. You said that they're going to be all these teams the Yankees and the dodgers in. Well, the dodgers had feels like, you know, may back door the Phillies here, and you know, but you got a big payroll there your third in the league and payroll you've made it to the World Series twice. Granted you've lost DNA Bryce Harper. Could you spend the money more wisely? But if I'm Bryce Harper, and you say I can be in a dodger uniform for five years, and it's around, you know, two Hyundai. Sign up signing up. I don't know if his agent let him that's the key. Because I would rather do five where I wanna go instead of ten where I'm supposed to go. That that would be my philosophy Bryce Harper in LA you live in Vegas. You wanna be in Los Angeles or New York, and that would be the approach I would take. Absolutely. 'cause I don't think he wants playing Philadelphia apple, and it's a great point. You brought up the what the livelihood or the lifestyle of the player is not the priority of the agent. I'm guessing the agent wants to set the market. So he could get more guys like Bryce Harper to sign up with them. So they have to divergent agendas. Yes. And Bryce Harper..

"To sports talk radio there at nauseam over the last few weeks and to be feeding clear Phillies fans display all they've done. What they've done has been extraordinary despite all they've done. This off season would be considered an utter failure as affiliates. Don't walk away with Manny Machado. I can I can guarantee you for certain the front office is here. That. And I think no matter what it takes whether it's three thirty or three fifty or even north of that. I didn't the Phillies will do whatever is required to get done. Yeah. I said to Scott Miller, my sense was that John Middleton who made the comment about the Phillies, you know, perhaps spending stupid money. He would basically have to grab the steering wheel away from the front office analysts. What do you think? I I agree. I mean, those if they find a way not to to pull in Harper tho those are going to be word that he eats for very long time. I can assure you of that. All right. Let's talk about Manny Machado earlier in the week. I wrote a column in which I suggested that. I mean, I flat out don't think that the timing of the Machado signing is right because I don't think they're pitching develop enough. We we know that they have is tremendous wave of prospects coming you, send me a note after that though that maybe disagree a little bit both to an extent, I agree into an extent. I don't offer you both sides of the aisle. Here's the Padres. Lost ninety six games last season. And now have agreed to three hundred million dollar deal with Machado in that dynamic is practically without precedent. Before yesterday. There had been thirty nine nine figure contracts handed out to free agents in major league history. But only two of them were signed by team that won fewer than seventy games the previous season the oath. Dick's cubs. Went sixty six ninety six signed Alfonso Soriano to one hundred and thirty six million dollar deal. The twenty ten nationals went sixty nine ninety three. They signed Jason worth to a one hundred and twenty six million dollar deal. But the Padres of the top ranked form system, according to baseball America among other outlets, including our own law since two thousand five thirteen of the fourteen teams with that number one distinction made the playoffs BUSTER within two years. And the only exception was the twenty eleven royals and they wound up making it to back to back World Series in two thousand fourteen and twenty fifty. So let me ask you if you were Peter Seidler who is the owner of the Padres. And he's the one who's making like that not a general manager like AJ prowler. Would you have made the same decision that would have made the exact same decision? This is this is a city. In a franchise now that has the opportunity to explode because of the because the chargers have left they play in as we all know the best climate in America. Now have the opportunity to be the biggest show in town. I think Manny Machado though, he isn't Bryce Harper. In terms of celebrity is probably that present a better baseball player. Just in terms of his tools, Dan, Bryce Harper is I will go on record as saying that he will be well worth three hundred million dollars over the next ten years. And I will also point out that the five year player option is not something that shouldn't should should go without being mentioned because as you know, the collective bargaining agreement expires after three years, you never know what the market might look like in five a really shrewd move by Manny Machado when his representation to give them that player option after five years. Yeah. Dan, Lozano the agent for Manny Machado has gotten a lot of compliments from other agents that I've heard and executives for getting this deal done. I wrote a piece the other day about Bryce Harper. Manny Machado, essentially that whichever guide takes the Phillies money. If in fact, they take the Phillies money, they'd better be ready to get dirty to go there and play really. Hard you as a Philly guy..

"And we're serious about it. It's not just talking. It's not trying to sell you guys on something it's actions, and it's going out and doing something, and it's motivating us players, especially when you see the front office doing stuff to to give you the right pieces that you need to be successful. So the beautiful thing about it. Now is it all is on us to to go out there and perform and do we can do. Eric hosmer is a great teammate known to be a great teammate. And he was asked the question. What does it mean for you to drop from the best compensated player on the team to the second best compensated player on the team? I wouldn't mind dropping a three to we. Go ahead and get some more guys a love, man. I want to win. That's that's that's the most important thing. That's what anybody else wants to do here. That's exactly what we're talked about this morning. That's the goal for this year. We wanna win no matter what it takes. And we're gonna do whatever we can max Scherzer nationals pitcher talked about Machado's contract for the game. Good for the stars in the game to get signed. Facing the game to get signed for a ten year contract. You see players this yon reach free agency. I know we have aging Kerr's. But when even when I've seen these eight incurs employers are still productive outs age thirty six so from a free agent standpoint to see a player get his prime covered. All the way out the h thirty six that's good for him. Here's Clayton Kershaw. The dodgers. Honestly, that's that's great. You know? I I don't know. Anytime you're in that echelon the player with being young. I don't know if it necessarily right number, you know, because you're obviously trying to set the path for future guys get to that point. But not the many guys get the free agency. If that's our level that a twenty six years old. So ten years seems fair for sure, and you know, getting that thirty years grade. So can't say I'm happy for forms. I guess Padres now. But you know, it's it's good to maybe get the market gone a little bit. Yeah. I know Clayton Kershaw. It says something, but it was completely distracted. Josh by the ping pong in the background Forrest Gump sign with the dodgers BUSTER. Sure sign of that one. It water para has on sportscenter with John Bucci buccigross. And he was asked the question are the Padres contenders. There will be yeah. Absolutely. In twenty twenty one. I just don't see it this year or next year. And I think this is where Manny Machado is going to have to be patient. He's already gone through some growing pains in Baltimore. He's seen what a winner looks like in Baltimore. He's seen it also last year in LA. So now, you have a winner first base and Eric hosmer and a winner at third base. Amanda machado. Let's see if the Padres. Now can get some pitching and get that young crew of guys up to the big leagues to see if they can come through our old friend. Bob Nightingale of USA today was on with Freddie and Fitz Simons, and he was asked as we move forward. What about if the Phillies don't get Bryce Harper records had a good winter? But I think it'd be perceived as a bust if they'll get a Harper, particularly since we're not getting Machado. So I'd be surprised if he doesn't end up there it we'll see we'll see guest over three hundred million or not. What Jared Weaver the former teammate of might try out a funny tweet overnight. He said, look if Manny Machado is going to get three hundred million dollars, Mike trout, it's gonna get a billion. Here's what Bob Nightingale said about what Machado's deal means for Mike trout. Interesting. He's what you know, your you're and a half older than Machado, you wait two more years while you're talking thirty years old or twenty nine so we'll see, but I think certainly the sweetener million dollar, Mark. It's like, okay. If you're giving this guy that kind of money when I'm gonna get it operated all the stuff for you regarding the angels..

"Four home runs and a career best one hundred ribs again similar numbers except for last season. When Machado hit fifty points, higher forty eight points higher, but they're different players. Now where does one have the advantage over the other on the field Machado plays a corner infield spot, please the hot corner better defender couple Gold Gloves in his career considered a four better defender frankly than Bryce Harper, but you heard passing talking about the other? Things. This matters marketability building a franchise around them being somebody that younger players can look up to that's all Harper. And there is none of that in Machado. None of it. So you're going to get very productive player in San Diego. Frankly, CD was probably the best fit for Machado because he doesn't have a lot of veterans that are going to hold him accountable for some of his interesting or less desirable actions. Harper. You don't have to worry about that. So there's pluses and minuses to both now ten year deals. Let's look Stoorikhel here at ten year contracts. I'm gonna give them to you Albert holes signed a ten year deal with the angels that runs for three more seasons. He signed that at the age of thirty two. He's not getting the twenty five million dollar a year production that he is getting paid. He's not showing that he's a different player. Now when he's even play Robbie canot back in fourteen signed a ten year deal with the Mariners at the age of thirty one. He's a met now in the middle of this contract. A rod actually signed a couple the one in two thousand one with Texas that he ends up a Yankee and signs one in two thousand eight remember at the end of that they couldn't get rid of them fast enough, and he kept hanging around and hanging around prince fielder signed a nine year deal with Tigers. But about four years in couldn't stay healthy and retired in two thousand sixteen that was a two hundred and fourteen million dollar deal. We've not seen ten year deals work as Stephen a Smith points out. Many Machado who can ball without question that this the brother that basically has the attitude I work when I want to work I wanna basis when I went to run a basis I'll show effort when I want to show effort that who you give ten years to ten years. I'm not feeling I'm so happy that the Yankees didn't do that. And by the way, don't do it for Bryce Harper either. Bryce Harper is a stud. I love Bryce opera. And I am in no way saying I have a problem with the money. I don't give a damn if it's four hundred million of five hundred million dollars with a health problem with ladies and gentlemen is the years that ten year. I mean think about he's twenty six now Doreen okay with you. It's first and last always presented by progressive insurance guests including you in moments..

"Huge news yesterday, of course, Manny Machado ten year contract. Three hundred million dollars guaranteed. Opt out after five if he wants to take it with the San Diego Padres, which now leaves Bryce Harper. What happens with Bryce Harper? All of the news is about the Phillies. That's the only team that is the giants. The nats. Have the big offer on the table. It seems like it's a matter of win. Not if he signs with the Philadelphia Phillies baseball insider, Jeff passan on how the Machado deal impacts, Bryce. I think Bryce Harper almost sees himself in his own stratosphere. It's almost like Manny Machado was the the baseball man's player this off season. Whereas Bryce Harper is the businessman's, and that's not to say that Bryce Harper isn't a great baseball player himself. But the impact that he can have off the field in sponsorship in marketing in ticket sales in growing the game in whatever city that he's going to be in is truly valuable. And that's what Scott Boris his agent is banking on. I think ultimately when it's all said and done whether it's Philadelphia Washington San Francisco team, we may not even know about still Bryce Harper's probably going to end up with a higher number, but likely tenure do. And now you give Harper tenure deal don't feel as concert. They're both twenty-six and Machado. But there are all of the other issues that you wanna go statistically fine. Let's look at the numbers. Listen to this. This is there. These are their numbers through seven seasons both of them through seven seasons. Both of them twenty six years old. Career average Harper to seventy nine Machado to eighty two pretty close. Average number of home runs per year..

"And he is that what it's going to be like from Chato or is he going to make too many questionable decisions. And caused too many questionable acts where we can't forget about. What are the Padres? Getting. That's what we don't know. But what would help them veteran leadership that USA today's Bob Nightingale says on Spain and Fitz. They don't really have. I think the only concern there is the Padres on have a whole lot of bench leadership. You know, the Yankees have been right there as they play with veterans in Baltimore in Los Angeles. You know to to sell it was going to be the guy who kind of disciplined people around there in LA. No, Adam Jones in in Baltimore. So we'll see you don't have that presence now. So they're not winning. I think it will be interesting. Yeah. It's the richest contract. Of its kind ten years three hundred million dollars. You are investigating investing thirty million bones a year into Manny Machado, and there are a lot of people including our own, Freddie. Coleman on ESPN radio who are suspicious cynical. I think those words fit to say the least Manny Machado is going to disappear because the San Diego Padres are not any good, and I'm understating this sniffy wins last year. Seventy one win the two thousand seventeen sixty eight to two thousand sixteen as a matter of fact, the last winning season for the sandiego Padres was two thousand and ten so you're going to get paid that kind of money if demand Machado, there's no doubt take the money and the tenure contract because for the next two years. The only time we're going to see or hear about you will be on highlights because Abe. Go Padres are not going to be any good for two years three years possibly for years. So take that money and run if you are Manny Machado, and he got that. But don't you have to know Dari nowkhah with your first and last that was pretty Coleman. You heard him last night on Freddie and Fitz him, but don't you have to know? If you're Machado, you're not signing into this deal with any expectations of winning this year and possibly not the next. But I think and I think a lot of people think the Padres will be one of the bigger surprises in baseball. It might be one of those teams that intil September is at least in a wildcard chase. They could be interesting. And by the way, Keith law the SPN zone who I have one thousand percent respect for because the dude knows his stuff says the Padres have the best farm system in baseball, those that think about this if they're in contention. They could if they're in contention at all come the trade deadline, potentially have the pieces to make a massive deal for a big time edition or to to help that team. "But but even if I don't. Like the numbers if the only way to get Manny Machado was three hundred million and ten years. Maybe it's worth it. Because you've got other teams seems like the White Sox who need an injection of stardom who need a player that can change the way their team looks to potential free agents. And if they're not willing to put up that extra two years because the White Sox reportedly were at eight years in about two hundred and fifty plus so more money over each year, but less money total and fewer years total. Is it worth saying that our valuation doesn't play out to that ten years? Or is it better to say we're going to eat it on the last couple. We might not even still have them around. He does have a five-year opt out, by the way. Many does. Of course, the team doesn't maybe still won't be around. Then or maybe we'll have made such good on the early years of the contract that it'll be worth it. These are of course, the questions the Padres were asking themselves in the rest of the rest of the league as he was willing to wait until he got the deal that he wanted. Now, there's at least one person who was pretty happy that his team didn't go all in. On on Machado's the little Yankees fan that s NY managed to catch with an immediate reaction to the news that Machado and sign with the Padres. Why not? Bye. Bye. Baby. I kid as Ardy secured deal on WFAN. I think I think that's the word going around. We might have to just lower his voice a couple actives because it sounds like a chipmunk, and that's not me bashing a small child. He's got incredible knowledge. Just my dogs have now run away from my house never to be seen again because of the pitch of that kid's voice. Yeah. He's happy. The didn't go after him a lot of people speaking out about the fact that they're okay with their team not being willing to go ten years three hundred million for a guy, especially guy like I said who said hustling ain't his Cup of tea, but this could be a massive deal for the Padres. And coming up next. We're going to talk to Richard Justice, MLB dot com. Correspondent to see what can be expected to the Padres. Now that they've added Machado. Also, what does this mean for the Harper deal and how quickly that might happen? And how big it might be. It's all coming up next pain and Fitz on ESPN radio. Spain and Fitz Manny Machado, three hundred million ten years to the Padres. A team that has never won the World Series has been out of the playoffs has been sort of irrelevant. But is this enough to make them relevant or was this just a money grab, and I get to live on the beach kinda deal. What does he expect from the team? What should we expect from the team? "Welcome to Spain. And fits the podcast big money. Big money big money. That is what we're talking about today. Manny Machado getting paid most people not necessarily arguing with the money and whether he's earned it more so arguing with the years. There haven't been that many ten year single contract deals in baseball. And the results are still out on a few of them. They're still a couple players that we don't know how it worked out with vodka canot Stanton among them, the more recent ones, then there are some players Albert pool holes that you can look at it and say for certain that ten year deal wasn't worth it. You can look at Cabrera what the Tigers and say he did a lot for that team. But that extension that made him into a ten year deal. Is not paying off for the Tigers that he's already hit replacement level with you know, midway through the deal, and he'll be forty when the guarantees run out. And he's he's not the guy that he was when he signed. That's the problem, of course, Spain infants by the way, Sarah Spain fits is going to join me in about an hour on ESPN radio ESPN app and siriusxm channel eighty the problem. Of course, with these deals is that we want to react to the the player that they're getting now and presumably the first couple years of that player how he's gonna play and the real gamble for the Padres in signing. And like I said for this hour, and this hour only I am broadcasting on my home station, also six seventy the score here in Chicago, and Jeff passan reporting and Hector Gomez also putting some numbers on the deal that the White Sox have officially offered Manny Machado, an eight year two hundred and fifty million dollar contract. The Philadelphia Phillies still involved it's reportedly down to just those two teams. The White Sox in the Phillies. Bob Nightingale from USA today. Earlier had reported that the Phillies see themselves as the favorites for Bryce Harper. And it's still we're considering going after both. But after a five hour meeting with Bryce Harper. They think that they're going to be able to lock down the right fielder, and in theory that takes them out of the running even though they're gonna still try but White Sox could be seem like they are the favor. For Manny Machado, and that would be monumental for a ton of reasons. He's an awesome player. He's polarizing player. They signed his brother-in-law yonder Alonzo and one of his best friends in John J so it would be a truly unconventional recruiting pitch for a professional sport signing. He also. Would have a legitimate claim to being underpaid. Like, if that's actually what they get him for eight years two hundred and fifty million bucks. If that's what Manny Machado signs with the White Sox for it would be a historic signing for the White Sox their previous largest contract ever is sixty eight million bucks to Jose Abreu. So you'd be talking about nearly two hundred million dollars more than the previous highest contract in franchise history. So on a local level, it would be a remarkable accomplishment and their front office and ownership group should be applauded locally nationally. But. There's a really interesting story going on with wage suppression in baseball because all the tapping into baseball. Revenues is going up up up and up TV up Bantac media up franchise value up. Everything's just going up. Yet last year's free agency, really weird. This year's free agency, really slow. If you think back to what our pool signed his contract for what Miguel Cabrera signed his contract for those guys have contracts that runs through their age forty season. Now, you could say it's just baseball teams smartening up. Everyone doesn't smart enough at the same time and. Fans. I like my team being smart. Okay. Cool. But they're not you want them to spend the money that they're making on the players and try to win baseball got a little bit of a problem with too few teams trying to win and all that happens. It's pay the money back to the fans like ticket prices. Go down ticket prices go up but owner's pocket more money because they spend a smaller percentage of their raising revenues on payroll, and they convince you that it's okay to not try to win and not trying to win for a period of time is smart for rebuilding. But then when it's time to win you damn well, better spend the money. So if they sign Manny Machado at twenty six years old to a two hundred and fifty million dollar deal and the last season of it is when he's thirty four years old. Honestly, that's a bargain. That's a hell of a story. I really really hope it happens. But that is a that is a fascinating fascinating development. And we could be living in a very weird world where? Somehow some way Manny Machado is underpaid at two hundred and fifty million which by all accounts, obviously, a lot of money, but speaking of a lot of money, I said before the break I wanted to get into the motivational story that went viral in the NFL from over the weekend. And then we'll get back to your NFL calls at eight five five two one two four CBS before we take a little departure and Cuyler Murray Heisman Trophy winner. Who today? Monday, Monday on the east coast has to make a decision on whether or not he is or is not going to enter into the NFL draft the Heisman Trophy winner. Who also was a top ten pick from the Oakland A's and got a five million dollar signing bonus that he'd have to be give back if he forgoes baseball and heads into the NFL, but we'll get to that story in a little bit. Sean Payton to motivate his team. Had armed guards bring in the Lombardi trophy from the last time the saints won the Super Bowl. A Super Bowl ring from the last time the saints won the Super Bowl and two hundred and twenty five thousand dollars in cash which would be the player share. If the saints win today, which they did next week where they host the Rams, and then obviously the Super Bowl and three playoff games playoff share, two hundred twenty thousand bucks and Ian Rapoport from NFL network had the picture, and when you see the picture of two hundred and twenty five thousand dollars in cash there's a few things that stick out to you one is oh my God. That's a lot cash was like, I there's millions. But then you zoom in a little bit. And you see those are all singles. Sean Payton did not want to get hundreds because that would be only air quotes two thousand two hundred and fifty one hundred dollar bills while we'd all take it. And that would be the most. Economic way if you will to get two hundred and twenty-five Jesus in cash would with hundreds Sean Payton was going for the wild factor. So he got two hundred and twenty-five thousand George Washington's two hundred and twenty five thousand singles, and because social media can hate everything and anything that's not really two hundred and twenty five thousand dollars yet was that's not that impressive. It looks kinda cool like if you are well actually in. Yeah. Budding two hundred and twenty five thousand dollars in cash because it's in singles, you're a special kind of hater. And how about the fact that if they actually paid out the player shares, and this isn't how it works. But if they actually played out the player shares in cash, and they did it on the spot. Right. Neither of those things happen. It happens in direct deposit. It happens after the fact, and it doesn't happen in the host city, but yo- the super bowl's in Atlanta. Magic city. King diamonds are you with the strip club capital of the world, you give those guys, and then they leave Atlanta, and they fly back to bourbon street and New Orleans if the saints win the Super Bowl, and you gave them their player share in cash. None of them would have any of the money back. I mean, they put a wide a nice young ladies through college. And support a lot of people be it'd be trickle down economics. That would be that'd be an unbelievable economic stimulus plan. If you know what I mean, but two hundred and twenty five thousand dollars in singles in Atlanta is a dangerous place. That's like that can go a long way, but you can go away quickly Zalm Sanso, Sean Payton, be careful. Get two hundred twenty five thousand dollars in singles to a team that might be going to Atlanta. But I was thinking of. How happy the executives are that. They'll get to parade. Tony Romo Jim Nance in front of a hundred million plus Super Bowl audience, and these are the potential matchups. Chiefs saints chiefs. Rams patriots. Saints patriots. Rams. There's no bad Super Bowl. There is no bad matchup. Now, I personally. In terms of what I'm rooting for based on interest level, not any sort of gambling or fandom though. I do I will admit that. I do have somewhat personal connection worked in Kansas City for six years covered the chiefs. My mom's family is from Kansas City. So a lot of lifelong chiefs fans in and around my family and friends, I do have a personal connection to the chiefs. I'm also rooting for them because they're just much more fun than the patriots. So to me, the least interesting match up the the match of that I have the least interest in for the Super Bowl is patriots. Rams because if it's patriots Rams, I feel like the coolest story storyline for the game is Bill bell. Check against Sean McVay, the to coaching wizards, which listen, I'm here for their there to the top four scoring teams in the NFL you'd get Brady going for six Super Bowls. You'd have the prolonging of dynasty you'd have. Best coach in the history of the sport against the coach. You seems to be poised to be the best coach for the next generation. Like, Sean McVay is poised to be the next best coach in the NFL. I think right now the ranking goes Bill bell one Andy Reid to Sean McVay three which is why it's really cool that all three of them. Plus, Sean Payton are still alive for championship Sunday. But patriots Rams to me the best storylines are on the sidelines and not necessarily on the field. It's still really good on field up. So that's the quote unquote worst, even though it's still a great Super Bowl matchup. Patriots. Saints would feel like a little bit of a throwback to me. It'd be about the old quarterbacks. It'd be about the old coaches breeze going for a second Brady going for a sixth. The guys, you know in their late thirties early forties. It would feel that even though we hadn't seen that exact thing before in terms of a match up. It would feel like we had seen it before. It'd be great. It would do a huge number. I'm here for I'm here for all of this. Obviously, it's the damn Super Bowl. But. The the match ups with the patriots do the least for me for both of those reasons. The game. I would like to see second. Most is the game that I think the country probably wants to see more than anything else. My guess is did this as a poll question? Chiefs Rams is the game that most people want to see because fifty four fifty one Monday night football was an instant classic a crazy game these singular memorable game of this NFL season and running that back would be wildly entertaining. And it would be amazing. And obviously, I agree with all of that. It would be incredible. The only reason I like chief saints more. Is because it would to me it has the biggest like heavyweight title fight feel to it. It has both one seeds. The top two MVP's. And and this is the thing that I'm the most interested in while the AFC and NFC championship are both rematches and they're both rematches of top five games of this season. Right patriots. Chiefs. Chiefs lost in Foxborough, Mahomes, hung forty on the patriots at Gillette, but lost crazy. Classic game. Forty five thirty five was saints. Rams saints gave the Rams their first loss of the season. Got down early came all the way back saints held on awesome game. Chiefs. Saints would be the best offensive matchup that we haven't seen. We've seen chiefs patriots. We've seen chiefs Rams like we've seen those games before. Seeing a game that we hadn't seen before this season with two one seeds with Andy Reid going for his first Super Bowl with the top two MVP's with the drew Brees legacy debate the breeze legacy debate. If you get the second ring will be fascinating because I've always said that drew Brees is Dan Marino with a ring. But what if Dan Marino gets too? What if breeze gets the say, no one's got more passing yards finished with more touchdowns. And I got two rings. Why am I not in the conversation for greatest of all time? I know Brady has the five and he's got that claim for awhile. And we all watched it happen. But. Breeze a shot at the counting stats and at a second ring to it. So. To me. Chiefs saints is the best Super Bowl matchup that we could get. That's the one that. I'm most excited for. I said I was pumped to be on in Chicago for this hour, even if we're not talking about it. I'll take a call from my guy can don't know you. But I appreciate you calling The Danny Parkin show on CBS sports radio. What do you think? Hey, Danny first of all, I'm a regular listener of yours on WNYC are here in Chicago. And I want to congratulate you on getting this national gig. You certainly deserve it. And boy what a great show tonight. We'll thank you, sir. I appreciate you in your opinion from following the bears and seeing their place placekicker issues. What would you assess the probability percentage wise of the bears making an offer to Robbie goals? What are you saying? Fifty fifty. I mean, I think it makes all the sense in the world. He's made eighty three of eighty six kicks since the bears. Let him go. Obviously, Cody parkey was a disaster. He was in attendance. It'd be a great story book. But they're not going to have a ton of money to spend on a kicker. I'll put it at fifty fifty. Got exercise the demons that double Bank coming up next collar Murray has a really high class problem on his hands. And I think people are missing something when they discuss whether we should do baseball or football. We'll get into it. It's a Danny Barker show CBS.

"Is. Now that said if you remember about a month ago, they said, oh, boy Phillies they wanted to spend all this money. They can't get anybody to take it, though, the way this thing is set up. It looks like there's a real chance to fill is going to get to spend all that money. They wanted to spend and there's a real chance that not only do they get Manny Machado, but they also get Bryce Harper and they make themselves an instant favorite in the National League. Well, yeah. I mean, you did get Andrew mccutchen. They've made some moves there to you Robertson. But you're right. Dr winner for them if they don't go ahead and grab Machado Machado of Harvard. So if Harper does go back nationals. You got no choice. I guess the place. I gotta go. If you remember last off season, nobody spent any money because what was everybody say, they're all saving it to spend this year everybody that's over the cap wants to reset their cap. Well, now, we come this year, Bob, and we kinda see more of the same. There are an awful lot of quality free agents out there. And it's January twelfth more. Money's being spent this year than last year. But it's not exactly a frenzy in the off season. An awful lot of good pieces that aren't going to get the year's average annual value that they expected to get this off season. What's going on in baseball that these teams making boatloads of money are really reticent to spend a lot of it. Yeah..

"Starters. I may even ask about Coimbatore. But I bet the Yankees going to say, no, I think with more Wiggins Zalis his market is gonna material is the minute. Manny machado. Bryce Harper make up their minds Machado because you could see a team baby. Like the Phillies. Let's say if Machado ends up in Chicago if Machado ends up with the Yankees would affiliate say, borrowing exhaust. Let's bring them Yankees miss out. Manny Machado, maybe they're in on more. Wiggins alice. See I like a player, and I see your point plays all over the place. It's played on somebody teams. But for the Yankees. Knowing I have all these young guns any infield. I want to tie up three or four years to a guy who doesn't really have position. Be careful there. Tells me the Yankees with more wins solace. The question is are they truly out on that? And machado. Like, I've always said luxury when it comes to Machado not in the sesame thirty six on this Monday morning or it's a Friday morning. I'm always in my mind. I mean it happens, you know, your brains fried. It's every day is groundhog day. This point Friday JJ after doc lot more on the NFL playoffs. Lot more on gays lot more on the team with the most pressure the player with the most pressure remaining here in this postseason. Give him my answer when we were return right here on the fan. Robert here. Robert,.

"Hopefully, puts about on the ball also still him in the postseason when you watch them swimming ally. Crap man that was good in the NFC us. He was pretty billion kids Bruce series the World Series awful. And I but y Toca rob is enough. And a highlight would Chris sale. I can't watch it makes me ill. It makes me sick. It makes me. Wanna bomb it every other time? I love him. He's a good kid but enough enough enough because I coped that the two of you when the AKIs not if when the win their next championship, which hopefully will be in twenty nineteen you guys got to give it back, especially you. Yeah. There's a big revenge tour plant don't worry not way of magical for me. Thank me every tweet a like a retreat. In the world. Because after what I've seen from his Twitter page. He he needs to be brought back to reality at the twenty eighteen this place one hundred percents putting this place. We gotta we gotta get creative with that. The first step isn't any Machado. They don't they don't win a World Series. I don't think that Manny Machado. I or Bryce needed splash all of this. Yeah. You case. Like, okay there two years removed from being one game away from the World Series. And then they added the MVP who I think I think Giancarlo is poised for eight struck of season. You know, what all you need to know about Stanton the hubs in the LDS. I have more confidence in Neil Walker. Yeah. Then I didn't Carlos Stanton. That is a problem yet as a problem, and he could fit the at home runs, and it means nothing kind of go over in the plastic c-. He better figure out a way that he could pitching he better lay off the sliders. His pitch that bat against Kimball when kimbrel couldn't. Yeah. Getting that was stuff from Stanton. So he's kind all my crap list right now, I'm down on Stanton. He's gonna put up numbers. I agree. We sit fifty issue. I always thought he's on my shitless. I always thought his second year was going to be the bigger year. Owen takes to Justin the organ still hit thirty home as one hundred guys via the playoffs for awful. But like, I don't think he's I don't think he'd never been in the playoffs before. So that, yuck. That's experienced and shit. But I don't think he's afraid of the big moment. Because when they did play Boston in the regular season he Deke killed them. And those are all big games. You know, the the the the microscope is on you completely in those games almost as much as playoff games, and he crushed them. So I don't think it's a big moment. I just think he was inexperienced. And and now he's got that in the back of his head, and he'll have a big time here. I would not be surprised at all on the VP the American League now, it'd be awesome, though. The biggest fuck you ever all hitters just the winning UP? You know? You know, I in twenty that'd be awesome. But Machado, and we were talking about Enda Har. I think why can't he just be the D H? Why can't that happen? Why can't John in? Yeah. Why can't he just beat the everyday D H? He doesn't need the bother. Luke. Would I keep void there? He's god. And then you move stint to left and you make him there. Make a play a hundred fifteen games of in love is that really like that hard to do. I don't. Old. He's thirty five years old. He's fucking what twenty seven to one. He's twenty seven twenty eight play field. He's dead. I don't under- like there's definitely room for Machado an Endo because when dis out Pado place short and do I play third and then. Yeah. When de comes back who I mean who knows what it goes back, then we're hoping he's backed by July. But remember no with no drill. Like that. You know when he does come back. You move Machado third store and I had to Arkadi h into Carlo apps. I do think there definitely room for both him. I don't think getting Machado is necessarily saying we're done with Andujar. Why wholesale fell is? And one thing the Enke's cannot do any off season. I think both agree with this. You cannot move on. From Utica gory. She's to impl- he's the horn of grade team. He's the guy you went up in a big spot..
