"We had so many shady dopey stupid Republicans over decades like oh let's not argue about this culture stuff Let's just argue for tax cuts Brother I love tax cuts Get your freaking grimy filthy stinking mitts out of my wallet Great But that's not the only thing on Planet Earth There's a culture war out there where we're indoctrinating kids We're teaching kids to hate each other based on skin color We're teaching a generation of kids to hate America How are you going to have a country where this club we call America Everybody says the club sucks No one's going to want to be in that club and they're surprised that America is having problems So to have guys like you speak out and to have John at your back and vice versa And you guys to put out content and entertaining good songs great I just bought it myself That's what I was doing for those watching on Fox nation The song is great Staff guys like you break through and to produce good quality entertaining content this is a big deal Yeah I think it's like John said I think the bad guys have bought up all the real estate and I think that they've also convinced all of us people within America or North America or maybe even bigger in the world I think that the bad guys have convinced us to point the fingers at one another and be mad at one another and hate one another instead of point the fingers at them and hate men and have a problem with them So hey man Yeah amen And it goes back to what John said That's why it's so important for the white rapper with the blond braids and the face tattoos and the country icon with the handlebar mustache and the cowboy hat It's important for those people to look past the face tattoos And look past the cowboy hat and have the conversations with one another and discover that we all have so much more in common than the mainstream media wants us to believe And that's when we're going to be most powerful when we can shake hands and have those conversations and stand together

"Tom you're from a different world I know John's taken on woke ism and country music and John's in a unique place Tom He had John is such a powerful figure in country music He can basically write his own rules Now hip hop you think country music has gotten woke My gosh the hip hop is full of people who are well so you really got a tough road to hoe to you How bad is it in that space Patriots like you speaking out about American values and stuff You know what man From the hip hop community like I don't have a lot of friends in hip hop I'm going to tell you that much And there's a lot of longtime hip hop fans that you know sort of detest what I'm doing because it goes contrary It opposes what they're used to hearing from within the genre But you know like they're mad at me for talking about politics or talking about thinking for yourself or talking about how much I love the country or that our freedoms in jeopardy And the music that fills up the space in that genre is typically talking about romanticizing suicide promoting prescription drug abuse alcohol party and brand names determining yourself where objectifying women hyper sexualizing people Like it's a mess So I'm out here just trying to make music that can empower people And maybe it's not empower people at least give people the opportunity to think for themselves and allow them to empower themselves So at this point it doesn't matter how much opposition I get or how angry people are I'm a fully independent artist I'm not signed to anybody There's no manager There's no record label There's nothing There's nobody that's going to control me On the behind the scenes business side of things And there's no negative feedback on Twitter or Facebook or YouTube that's going to change the path that I'm taking right now

"We just had the distinct pleasure of listening to the new tune you guys have out During the break I took a little break from a regular rotation of tunes that was driving Jim crazy so you guys rescued us I got a sneak peek the song is awesome It's called end of the world So Tom you know what I'll let you take this one first and I'll get the job What made you guys want to put together this song I mean obviously times are bad but what was kind of like the road to Damascus moment and you're like we got to put together a song about this Yeah you know I think that I've sort of for the past four years have been making music that sort of goes against the performative wokeness and all the problems that that's causing in the world And you know I'm a big rock and roll fan and rock and roll's traditionally been about screaming the truth at the top here long So I'm trying to adopt a little bit of that And inject it into hip hop Which is rare in that genre And I've been a big fan of John for a long time And he's sort of a disruptor in country music in the same way that I'm a disruptor In the same way that I'm a disruptor in hip hop so I just figured you know there's anything make more sense than having this I came across you Tom

'Flash' actor Ezra Miller gets fine, probation after home break-in

"Actor Ezra Miller, who stars in the upcoming film the flash, has been sentenced in Vermont, entering a guilty plea to a misdemeanor that helped him avoid jail time. Justice League star Ezra Miller has been sentenced to a year of probation, a $500 fine and court fees, and continuing mental health treatment. How do you keep? Guilty. Miller pled guilty to unlawful trespassing in a plea deal with prosecutors in connection to a break in the theft of liquor bottles from a neighbor in Vermont's home last May. It's appropriate sentence and it is an interest of justice. In a courtroom in Bennington, Vermont, superior court judge Carrie Anne MacDonald Katie, told Miller two charges including a felony burglary count had been dropped, but could be refiled, if they failed to abide by details of the probation. All the conditions really are about mental health. Alexander Burke is a deputy state's attorney. Ensuring the compliance with the conditions, which we protect the victim, but it also allows the defendant to continue their employment. The Vermont break in was one of a string of arrests and reports of erratic behavior by Miller last year, Miller stars in the upcoming Warner Brothers movie the flash, which has had its release date moved several times. "What happened here In this case several years ago about The Republican governor Bob McDonnell who had a hell of a political career ahead of him Bob McDonald took a lot of gifts Mostly his wife did too At the time there was not a legal in the state of Virginia Was a wise No Did he commit a federal offense That's the issue The public integrity section of the criminal division of the United States Department of Justice was headed by this guy Jack Smith Jack smith's wife just done a documentary on excuse me Michelle Obama And is donated heavily to the Biden campaign So these are radical Democrats very very partisan You can assume this U.S. attorney or this head of the public integrity section is the same So what happened Well there's a definition in federal law in terms of bribes official bribes There's a definition for it In the bribery statutes in the interpretation of it Basically it's an official act The official act done on behalf of somebody as a result of receiving a gift a quid pro quo There is no evidence whatsoever The governor MacDonald had done an official act for anybody That there was any quid pro quo But that didn't stop Jack Smith the new special counsel investigating Trump From expanding it

"I am getting back to this fascinating interview with fela MacDonald. He's one of the producers of my son hunter, my son hunter dot com is where you go to get more information on the film. It is about the Hunter Biden laptop and the unfortunate disclosures that we find out from mister young mister Biden himself. You know what I like? And again, welcome back. I love the fact that you've got John James of dynasty playing Joe Biden. I like to call him uncle Joe. Some people call him President Biden. But because when I looked at John James, I looked him up recently because he's an older gentleman, of course, he's the right age, but he actually does look a little like Joe Biden. Yeah. And where do you see what we did with him with makeup and the wonderful Serbian makeup artists? I mean, he grew into the role. It was amazing. He just became Joe Biden over the course of making the movie. Even to the extent of walking into a glass door on his way into a restaurant on the weekend when we were making a movie. He said it was his greatest piece of mathematics ever. Yeah, he walked into a glass door and spent Saturday evening in the Serbian ER room. Not a great place to be actually any E or R on a Saturday night anywhere in the world is not a good place to be Serbia. It's got its own challenges. So you just need a few stitches, but that he was taking the Joe Biden the stumbling bumbling Joe Biden rule so seriously walking through a glass door. So that was not part of the movie. That's one of those outtakes, right? Yes. Yes, very much. And he was taken out by the glass door. He was taken out by the glass

I'm the government for god's sakes of f. fifteens in nukes just go to the vaccine just but and then walked out of the room to get a snack. Many concerns remained around the issues of freedom and natural immunity but the president was already eating his apple sauce with crushed up pills in it and was unable to answer questions. Companies will be forced to comply with the mandate until the supreme court strikes down in just a few hours. So yeah you see like People on twitter really slobbering like excited about the sourcing vaccine them people yes. We've used the carrot now. It's time for the stick. Yes dablam stab them. All daven with the stick look at the polls there like this minute you know majority of americans support the vaccine mandy like there's a majority that supports isn't that many states are like nope there were a bunch right. There was like seventy states. Said no and then i don't know how many like two thousand five hundred fifty immediately. Yeah no doubt you gotta think he's doing this through osha. Which was that. we're thing season instead of passing it through congress or even an executive order just said this is a new osha policy so going through these weird like has nothing osha. Don't they just they just supposed to make sure you don't run over people with forklifts that sounds like a singer songwriter. Name their main job is to make sure they run over by ocean. Yeah it's so and then my wife we've already been over that but Like just creeped out by now. Yeah there's something creepy political. Yeah yeah well is like a lack of transparency in the conversation is the biggest issue. You might say it's weird. Sorta like when you ask a girl out but then you add onto it. Like i really like you a lot if you just said like to cup coffee like giveaway better chance with that girl and if you add added on like just say you've been thinking about you or years and i finally by the courage tay i wanna ask you out to coffee because the lord says we should be together forever. Yeah we're like my psychic. Told me the one or psychic or like the. I want to hear about this. I'm trying to think about like If they were like you know yes and a girl out. And then you say and i will call your employer. Get you fired if you say that. Level of creepy. Then you're an anti something. Yeah if i can't have you know cam provided at a press to the like fourth eleven year old girl of the you know to clarify. This article is hilarious. It is great. And it's written by our own frank fleming so frank. The balloon -gratulations. The first bomb of the because the thing about posting satire and social media is the articles that are not bound. A current political event are never going to get a lot of shares. Just frustrating for somebody just wants to be funny. You just wanna be funny. And that's all frank cares about. He's norm macdonald in that way in that way but he's good job bomb. If norm macdonald wrote for the mambi he would always get mom of the week number. Donald loved bombing. Yeah because he liked it. Yeah we'll talk about that in their norm portion but yeah he has a whole thing about that are bama. The week is a food review written by our own toddler critic which is a character that frank created named oliver bar. Oliver bartholomew as a two year old janet would be great voice to read. Okay the food reviews of ketchup. A complex well-crafted culinary delights. Let's see what bartholomew has to say bartholomew. However both he's like to okay. It's like the calvin and hobbes humor calvin his five but he talks like he's got it. Okay here we go. Should i speak in the voice now. Whatever filter thing. I'm not usually very picky when it comes to what i'll put my mouth except when it comes to food if i don't like the look of it or the smell of it or if i just feel like i'm not getting enough attention i will throw it. There is one delicacy am discovered that i will almost never toss catch is catch-up the perfect food in my multiple years of certainly never d- i've certainly never encountered anything. Tangy sweet beautiful color pleasing mouth feel also a pleasing face feel when spread it all over. My face now often alita by myself but also combined so well with other foods. I've dipped so many things catch it. French fries corn chips pretzels sticks. Ooh blueberries my sippy cup. And whatever is in region my highchair and it enhances the flavor of everything. That's why i demand catch up now at every meal. If i ever seated eat in. There is no ketchup. I will make my displeasure known. I'm a connoisseur. I only want the best and that means catch up with everything so just bring it over and leave the bottle if you know. What's good for you so cute limit. I see what you mean though. It's not about the context it's about the. Yeah it's about the clicks in the the intention grabbing aspect of activities. Sure and go. This is so true. I love the idea. I love the idea of doing video. Where like you see the baby and like you have the inner monologue playing like that at adult voice ask Thought we saw them the finger. Yeah looking will follow bottle. Follow babylon be if you want more oliver bartholomew because he's already reviewed Cocoa mellon one to channel and. I think we're working on a literature reviews for him and some music reviews. I liked him being outraged about a. What is it obama's barbazza can do for view. Always wanted to do a story. We have a apparently convicted of attempted murder by a baby judge because it tried to give him a bath because they think you're trying to kill them baby dare mind ethan. Sense of humor is just having babies. Don't think that's one of my many. I mean i have to. Let's do some weird news. This news is weird. Mcdonald's diner horrified turns veganism into right there as he turnip in his big enroll a beacon role case. It's a uk thing. God he says he found it in the car and he says it was a pig nicole once again. I don't. I don't get why you're eating all these parts of a pig and then the nipple grosses you out. That's what's gonna you don't know what's in that hot dog weight loss I'm sure as july couples. Galore and hotdogs i could be all nipples for all you know and other things even worse. Yeah it says. He contemplated turning. Vegans played in as he's just too big talker. Pull the triggerman. you'll become coming back to the bacon. You know becoming back. Ever tell them when i worked at a buffet restaurant. I used to read the chicken in the morning. And i tell the story about the chicken to connected chicken. I don't think i've found in this box. They have all the cut up chicken. You know yeah. I pulled out a fire which he knows. It's one side of the but yeah so then picked it up and then the other was still connected. An in between the two is was a little ring but to chicken butthole. He's talking about the bible. So i was actually able to like cut off and i had chicken butthole. "That's a nice zip good. Yeah it's a little bit of melancholy sip today. So look we're going to to touch news because obviously the millie. The blinken situation unbelievable pretty big from yesterday touch on that but doesn't necessarily from that people do for clicks wanted to really do attribute here norm macdonald. And let me explain to you why he's been one of the single biggest influences on me professionally on this show. I've talked about it at length as a matter of we'll show some clips of how many times of talked about my top two guests that i ever wanted to get where i were nor mcdonald and alice cooper. Yeah yeah and so. That's the real tragedy in all this. They'll never get to have on the show that's true it's really yes. There are other ways not to come on the show. You know that's the thing you don't hurt uber. Watch out because it's publicist doesn't like me so we're going and not only that but i think a lot of people. Now jump on this bandwagon. Look keep in mind. That mcdonald was reviled. Not very long ago by the me two people. Yeah by the. I don't even know what hashtag we're talking about. But people now act. As though they appreciated the brilliance that was people don't realize also would a devout face that he was yeah. He tried to avoid politics. But it was pretty easy to pick up on Where he lined up. So we're going to be talking about that today quite a bit and i want to paint a more full picture of who the man was an. And hopefully there's people out there who maybe don't Don't know about them too much. Have an appreciated him as much as you should really. He should go along. Certainly with the greats. I'd put him in funniest man that ever lived. I've said that many times. I said no. Mcdonald's is the funniest mentors ever lived in upset. The nick dipaolo is one of the funniest man's right now. Doing stand up comedy. I usually say to retire. Bring on nick dipaolo. Yeah and he considers a comparison even in honor. So i wanna hear from you comment. Just calm down. Your favorite norm joke. Pause this and comment your favorite doug and this is actually an important experiment. Okay i want all of you to pause this because we're going to show you the best of norm some of these. Some of these clips are longer because norm takes his time. A bunch of slow-burn. He's a slow burn. But i want you to pause leave a comment with your favorite norm joke before you watch the rest of this show But to lead this off. I just want to show you. This is This must be from somewhere in the nineties. Norm macdonald and dennis miller keep in mind. This is before dennis miller even realize before. Am radio dennis miller before. Dennis miller even knew that he was more right. Leaning nor mcdonald had not been open about anything politically. Yeah but again. This is why comedy is is is so it's such a window into people. Sometimes that doesn't mean that all of real sometimes it's just jokes. Yeah just like alice. Cooper lyrics doesn't mean that's actually who he is. These are just jokes but sometimes you can see that little shimmer. Oh that's what he thinks not to mention. This is a joke that may immediately get banned from youtube which again proves my point But here he is on dennis..

"A weird kind of waste unusual unique way. He made everybody laugh getting apologize. A degenerate gambler. It was a big golf fan. He was a strange guy and in the end and people kind of picked up on this late last night. He had cancer fought cancer for nine years and nobody knew it. Nobody knew it. I mean. I'm sure the people closest to him might have known and maybe his family knew but in this day and age when people are live tweeting bowel movements e. You had a guy famous guy. Obviously i'm gonna guess. Went through chemo. Radiation over and over again with too many treatments suffered greatly And passed away at the age of sixty one of k and nobody knew nobis remarkable that there was no report of this news of this leaking out that he never mentioned to anybody. I mean he was a guy that just said what was on his mind and it never was about cancer was never a look at me on a heroic. Look at look at all. I'm going through a look. Look at the the struggle. It's real. I mean you just never heard from him and that to me is a very admirable and unique quality. I don't know if if if you saw this. But i definitely watch twenty. Eighteen norm macdonald. Did a ten episode shows called norm. Macdonald has a show on netflix. Still there are highly recommended. Good it's he's got gas on and it's Once or twice. And i do think a judge judy episodes very good standup is good. It's weird and odd and if used to say if you're on to call them and you get to chuckles to guffaws to laughs of calm. That's a good call. If you could write a call. I mean if he does stand up and he's up there for whatever half an hour you will certainly get a couple of chuckles. There'll be moments where you roll your eyes and say what the hell is that about. And he would do things just entertain themselves but he will make you laugh and you'll get the sense that you're just you know hanging with the guy just hanging with this this oddball. It didn't feel like it was it was scripted it of course it scripted but you never felt like it was like a performance. Which is the guy you know talking speaking off the cuff of the top of his head and making you laugh hysterically I love the tributes to him. I'm gonna keep reading today. Keep down that rabbit hole and keep watching video. Maybe i'll watch that show. What's it called again North haas show as an ethics and his imitation of burt reynolds was the best character he did on. Snl i it was. It was brilliant. I'm pretty sure. I told him that when we adamant studio. Don't remember all the things we talked about. I'm sure it was golf. Because he golf. And we love golf so we probably bored. The audience with some golf talk but his character is burt reynolds and when they do whatever the jeopardy like they do every week. The fake game show. He was burt reynolds and he was great. Just a dumb wacky crazy. Burt reynolds he did bob dole. He did a few characters. He was supremely talented as As everyone knows but unique and funny and he will be missed and they won't be anyone. Bill no shoes and now a look at colin jost and michael j. even with even more so watch that show do. I've gone you watch that show. Okay i know. I know you. Don't listen to everything. I say but i've talked about this hour times. I hate watch. i miss it. I remember when it was great occasionally. They'll be something mildly funny And i talk about it on mondays. A tweet about yes. I watched that show generally record it but It and generally sucks and it has no-balls weight again nor mcdonald's showed you what it used to be chose. You used to be the people that took the challenge to you know. The powerful took on the establishment. Now at ease the establishment just like oval late night comedians north. Del didn't play that game to the point where they fired him for which is a great way to go and a great opening line to his job it but We will leave it all. We gotta do the damn to the biden lie. It's not worth too much time. But joe biden was an idaho. This is again you know. The guy is just a compulsive liar and he's different than most politicians in that he tells lies that do nothing. They don't advance no. There's no political reason. He's just trying to create a connection with the audience Just get the audience. Ingratiate himself to the audience. But this is a great example. Of what what he does. How does you can't believe a word he says because he'll lie about anything i mean. Of course it lie about big things war and whatever three point five trillion dollars spending bills but this is a meaningless thing. He was in idaho and way back for from campaigning. For gavin newsom. And i guess that worked because you have a newsom is freedom. He's going to stay in office and continue to destroy our biggest state but he stops an idaho at a A lumber company called boise cascade. Yeah and he's just talking about Himself and lumber business and he's talking about Frank church former Democrats senator from out. There says i used to tell frank church this. I've got a my first job offer. Or i wanted my wife deceased wife and i wanted to move the idaho because we not a joke. It's such a beautiful place. And i interviewed for a job at boise cascade. And in the meantime there was a war going on anyway but the whole point was i used to always kid. Frank said he had a job interview he wanted to move to. Idaho well boise cascade. Spokesperson lisa a champion to champi. Yeah told the new york post we have no record of president biden's application or of or of him having worked for the companies we check their system internally and nothing has turned up of course nothing turned up he just made it up just makes up that. We wanted to idaho. And i interviewed for job here at this lumber company. It's i mean if that's a child if that's a twelve year old boy his mother pulls him aside and said know you shouldn't lie. Johnny a shouldn't lie joey and That's the people won't believe you. It doesn't really you don't want to be known as a liar. Why are you lying. Doesn't help you and you know they are. The company was there. Was this guy at the company. It's not like for someone company. I remember this lumber company and immediately people ask. Did that really happen. I mean this is idaho. Obviously if it's new york. Dc full they go into full cover up mode. Don't don't don't don't ask. You just believe when he says what was the other line told. What would he used to do that. We used to work somewhere and it was like you didn't. You are gonna hack politician. He was elected to the senate. When you're right he's been hasn't had a real job his whole life. He's been in the swamp for fifty years. Everybody knows that he didn't have a real job in work in the private sector. He didn't earn anything in his entire life. Create anything so we want you to believe. Yeah interviewed at this company in idaho when he was a young guy with his deceased wife. They wanted to move somewhere. Which i think that'd be kind of weird moving with your deceased wife to wait. You don't wanna do that. You want to know you still don't arrester totally makes it up and people go. That's amazing chicken a chicken. It's a lie and we move on. Nobody cares driving. Eighteen wheeler truck eighteen wheeler and immediately. They never had his commercial driver's license. It didn't actually happen. And i guess it's better than line about the big things but how can you believe him on anything. You can't totally made up. I will leave it there. Thanks to everybody for watching and listening and commenting and signing up at locals dot com. How we doing very well. Yeah there's a lot of people there People are posting content. Which is great. "My week. What tons not mine either. I'm being very nice. Good now norm. Don't wanna get into this. And i don't want to hear it and this is not the place to make those accusations and you're supposed to be funny but you have been properly chastised by barbara next recco. Let me do this. She goes over and she goes over and literally puts her hand over his mouth. If just brilliant images make them so uncomfortable on the view just by pretending that they're guy different. Bill clinton was killed the guy what he killed a guy i think you know. Sometimes he was telling joke the moth joke which we can't do. Now 'cause it takes like minutes if you haven't seen it. I tweeted out there. The moth joke somebody called the greatest joke in like late night. Comedy history is pretty good. It's pretty good but it's the funny part is the way he tells it. You know it's so long and involved conan o'brien like you know we got ten chauhan's we get to it and he finally gets the punchline inst- great it's funny it's weird my highest praise i can give is. Who does he remind you of. I'll i don't know. I can't i can't answer nobody that's the answer. I can't think of anybody say yeah. He's kind of like normal dumb. There's just nobody like norm macdonald. There never has been never will. Does you know he's originally. I mean i wouldn't say is the greatest character ever on us and allied put say chris farley was the greatest character innocent l. Even a great career you know in the movies but he he did things no one else. Did you know he took on the powerful. Didn't in.

"Have to laugh and others legless shaken there. Hey here's here's what makes him such a legend. I haven't really read all the obits today but this belongs in the first paragraph. it really does. If i'm right in the orbit of norm macdonald. Today i say no. Mcdonald's the quirky comedian who lost his job at nbc. Because he wouldn't stop making fun of. Oj simpson a man. Who murdered his ex wife an innocent waiter. that is the truth. And i read all about it Last night because i wanted to be reminded first of all great he was. But how ballsy was this guy. Had an in you know guys on. Snl that's a dream. He was on. I think he was on five years. He was host of Weakened update for three years. He was the best ever added because he took chances he made fun as i tweeted this out as a reminder to kids you know because i'm always talking about how much. Snl sucks and how they've no balls and they don't go after the of never. I believe them never mocked hunter biden which is amazing amazing but You know they. They didn't they. hardly ever biden. Were kamala harris. I mean when they tell these crazy lies and kamala harris thing about freedom when she was a little girl and she just wanted freedom. And i think that was a jimmy found cracking up laughing. It's jimmy fallon estimate cracking up laughing. When kamala harris the bp makes up a blatant lie. But what she said as a child. they're all together. Norm mcdonald was never part of that. You know if you're snl should be poking fun at pow at power doesn't matter just go after challenging the status funny. It doesn't matter we'll laugh right. Which which is what he did. Yeah we could play his appearance on the view which is just you want to but let me finish the olma. The dont tunnel minor was executive. Nbc who hated norma tunnel and the reason he hated him donal myer was a close friend of oj simpson. Who killed two people. And you know when you're a good friend you know what murder get in the way you know. You don't live murderer ruin a good friendship. So he didn't want the people on snl to make fun of oj simpson and nor madan didn't play along normally don't continued to make fun of a double murderer until he was asked to leave and then he had an epic return appearance. I think it was a year and a half after they fired him he hosted and you know what he did when he hosted he said. This show sucks literally. He said they got rid of me. This is amazing. Because i was a bit player for five years. They got rid of me. 'cause they said i wasn't funny. Which isn't the reason. But that's the reason they gave. And now they have me back as host to host his show he goes. you know. i guess. I'm funny again. i mean he just mock them. He went places. No one would ever go. He made people uncomfortable and he Pissed off don all my so much. Did they get rid of them now. There's there's a hell of a reason to lose a job isn't the hell does something to be very very proud of again. That would be my lead. If i'll rent neo but that he made fun of oj simpson and it pissed off nbc. If he were on their today you wouldn't be it'd be fired. He'd be making fun of hunter by joe biden and kamala harris and they would pull him aside said no. We don't do that around here. Those guys and nobody would go out and do it again. The next week live and they would finally say you know. He's gotta go. he's he's just not funny so he went out guns blazing he was. He did political stuff. And i think he was. I think he leaned right. Maybe was libertarian. Like you but you didn't hesitate to go after the clintons or other powerful people. That was his thing. He took chances. He had balls but he goes on the view years ago. I don't give a date on this but it's it's Barbara walters was there Joy behar was there and she was young. And i don't remember when she was young but the this was years ago. Two thousand two twenty twenty one years ago with joy behar and they and he starts talking about clinton bill clinton's a murderer and it was brilliant because he just says it matter of fact it says yeah. I thought everyone knew that. And he gets to the point where joy behar gets out of. Her chair comes over and tries to put her hand over his mouth because they don't want him making fun of their guy and you know he doesn't. I don't think he really believed clinton was murdering people but he just wanted to make everyone uncomfortable. That's how he entertained himself to make everyone around comfortable. But this is so good you have to see you have to listen to To norm macdonald on with the view girls. I think we should get the homicide out of the white house and get like a fresh because we don't want anymore. Murderers just go onto the next question would be murdered. You know accusations does worse. That's just go on to the next. Yeah.

"And he looked up and he's going to do this or what i mean. He's just a total jerk. And and i. I can't stand him they this other people And then i'll i'll think of more about it but Nor mcdonagh was very cool. Came in chicanes laughed till jokes had a good time. The reason he was such a genius and the reason he was universally loved. Well maybe not by oj simpson or by hillary clinton but people just not just fans but you know people in the business other. Comedians other actors just adored him and really really respected him because there was no he was one hundred percent. As far as i could tell genuine he was real. There was no act i mean. He was occasionally actor and performer but he was the same way off. The air is on again. It was a brief brief time. That i was with them but the jokes. He told jokes he told off. Fear similar the ones who told on letterman or on. Snl let's just. He had a weird sense of humor. He told jokes. Any didn't really care whether you laughed or got them. He told jokes that he thought were funny. That his probably his loyal fans. I mean. there was some times last night. When i'm watching some of the the video from his appearance on snl letterman. And he's making a joke and nobody's laughing except him up saying that is so that is great because you know that that is real that is genuine nothing more than a comedian scolds the audience. If they don't laugh at his jokes. I hate them more than anything. The tell a joke and it's a bit this time allow you know. That's that's a joke. you know. Feel free to laugh. You go make us laugh your job. Better job yeah. It don't complain if the audience isn't howling in the aisles. Your lame joke mcdonald didn't care. It didn't fluster him. He didn't get hung up on it if he told the joke. It just move on the next one and some of the stuff he told was just a sterile. If you're twisted and i don't know what would you have for for sound but it's all good you want to hear the woodson. Oh this is too okay. We'll let me set it up this. This is my favorite one. Yesterday and again i love watching the reaction to some people in the audience when he's live when he's you know in front of a live audience reaction and he. I think he was at the white house. Correspondents dinner sometime in the camera was on hillary and he was making jokes and she hated. But he's at the sp's and this was when espn used to take some chances they didn't you know they actually let a guy like norm. Macdonald appear the which is the case in many applies in many cases norm macdonald could never be on. Snl today never he you know he's he's a thousand times better than cohen. Joseph and michael che but he wasn't a hard core liberal. I mean he could never like be host on late night. Tv like cobra. Kimmel i mean these are just hardcore left wing cancelled culture mob people. I mean he could do could be on with bill maher because he's an independent thinker and he's got balls but he could never do what these people do late night seth meyers and the rest of those frauds. I just watched Bear do a monologue and it was like three minutes on millie and it was so awful and it was so unfunny and just really sucks. So sodas kimmel and they suck even more after you watch the great nor mcdonnell but this is hosting the sp's talking about charles woodson winning the heisman and making lots of people in this audience of thousands really uncomfortable. Charles woodson about that season became the first defensive player to win the heisman trophy. Congratulations charles. that is something the known can never take away from unless you kill your wife in a waiter in which case and.

"Check that out as well at shake. Concrete dot com. But before we do number goal then we. We might as well do nicki minaj. Because it was great the fight she gonna fight with joy reid. She questioned in her own charming way. The effectiveness of the vaccine because her cousin cousins friend not her cousin or cousins friend and trinidad took the vaccine and his testicles will swell swollen up swell up and his fiancee left him. That's her warning so be careful but the backstage in say don't take it. Just be careful and that's still up. I believe right. I taken down. I i didn't scroll down. alex berenson. Who again was very thorough data driven. He was banned for life from twitter for just expressing any vaccine. Hesitancy or a skepticism. Just trying to get the facts out. There they banned him. It's not acceptable to ask questions about the vaccine on twitter on facebook on instagram. You just can't do it. That's what you were just referring to khurana that it's Been the case for for anyone. I mean you can't it. Doesn't you know you could be donald trump. you'll be president. They will not allow it. They ban him a ban alex berenson. They've been others but nicki minaj. Just fine i guess. Because she's i don't know what she's a famous rapper and she's twenty two million followers and she said that warning out which is not exactly data-based. No out just says my cousin's friends nut swell up so you better be careful. That brought the ire of joy. Reid Oh tucker calls the race late and ms msnbc. Everyone's racist everything's racist. Everything's systematic racism. That's all she does. has few viewers but she always says something outrageous to get you know. Get the twitter world going and get the publicity. She's looking for one thing about systemic racism if you're so afraid that racism is systemic. Then why would you wanna give more power to the system. Why would you want to grow the government if you're afraid that it's racist that's a good question it's like more power. I mean what solves it. Give them less power. Well they know it's not true the least racist country on the planet the least racist time in this country yeah Go back to a man. Bill maher when when kevin kevin. What's his name. The actor The little guy. I don't know do what's a little guy. Kevin bacon kevin smith kevin lack black. Come on he's a comedian. he's comedian. You can't tell me that. I mean i can't you don't know it either. I'm old kevin. Hart's kevin hart said. This is the worst time for a to be black in american history or the worst time. White supremacy is worse than ever and bill. Maher just took them apart so worse than ever to be jim crow. Laws used to be slavery opposites the best time ever But we love to go over that again right now. Nicki minaj Join me goes after rips for Shame on you for telling that story but your cousin's friend and creating more hesitancy in the black community. And then immediately nicki minaj tweets out a couple of joy reid tweets. Yeah joy reid flat out says. She will not trust the vaccine. There it is yes this is this is what she says. This is trump trump time right. I mean we'll anyone anyone at all ever fully trust the cdc again and who on god's earth would trust vaccine approved by the fda. How do we get a vaccine distributed after this broken trump's nonsense has infected everything even if buying wins so that's that is as clear can get that vaccine vaccine hesitancy vaccines skepticism she. She says she can't trust the c. D. c. or the fda or the fda won't trust the vaccine and she is ripping nicki minaj for just telling a story about some poor kid into trinidad with swollen sales. Do some research. i couldn't re tweet it though because this kind of went under the rada. Yeah she does She's she why this right. This is nikki. Manashe chaz nikki notch directing it at joy reed. Yes homophobic so we know that the case she also tweets a story about joy reads blog posts homophobic blog posts which he blamed on a hacker later on confessed and as. He knows she just apologized. I don't know that she actually confessed. You said it was a hack and then she apologized so she. She's a homophobic she's racist. Obviously everything's but nicki minaj. Calls are lying homophobic. I don't think you said that word seaward but not that seaward. I mean a really violent race slower. Yeah tour twenty two million followers and it's still up at as they got different rules for rappers. They for you know. Alex berenson or or donald trump true because that violates like every every rule. You know this vaccine. Hesitancy this racism. It's it's crazy put it in our chaplain. it does have the nice little like This little nice little smiley face. And they're so that makes it better. Yeah right well well. Hopefully that feud continues. I'm sure if your joy reid you wanted to continue serve. Nicki minaj has twenty two million followers. And she only has two million so landing. I only have two menu of twenty two million. How dare you spread such skepticism. Which is exactly what joy reid. And by the way. Joe biden kamala. Harris did a few months ago because that was a trump vaccine and now they're any put people in jail if they if they don't get the job or no madness don't believe in it one hundred percent enough of these these these vile people get to american hero nor mcdonald. Yeah i i don't think people fully appreciate nor mcdonald. Because he's so he was so odd and strange and he wasn't a movie star. You didn't turn into you. Know adam sandler. Chris rock when he left. Snl he was a stand up comedian. He occasionally was in movies. And adam sandler stick a movie. And he was a weirdo. If autumn on twitter. Like i did for a while. I had to stop because he would he was a big gambler. Gambled a lot and talk about pets but he would tweet about golf all the time and i'm not just saying tweet about golf. Say really i like i. I love Jordan speeds chance in the major in the masters. He would tweet every shot and he'd literally tweet saying well. Justin rose's got up and down from the bunk girl on Four he's only three back and you'd go. Oh my god. I love golf. You know i'd love. I will watching golf talking gulf but it was incredible. This guy had a lot of followers and a lot of famous people and a lot of comedians and that to me was the charm of the man and i tweeted. The saudi was in the studio one time on the radio. We had them in promoting an appearance promoting one of his shows and he was very nice. You're always afraid that these guys will let you down. You know when you meet your heroes you meet these suit these stars and you're always afraid they'll be kind of a dink off the air and then turn it on when you go on. The air are no trying to think of the. I'll give you a quick example. And andy north speaking of golf on. Espn not a big star. But you know we had them on. We're at a golf tournament. "And that's what's happening with true but consider what they're doing then they're doing is they're saying the duly elected president. I don't i didn't like him. You know he was a little temperamental. Whatever he blustery entrust him because he was a rational. Well that's not your call to make first of all secondly he was as in. We'll play some some trump. She was Talking about sean spicer. There's no evidence that trump was going to. You know nuke someone who just the opposite You're much more likely to get nuclear war with a seventy eight year old Senile swamp creature like joe biden I mean the idea. That trump was on the brink of you know nuking. china is absurd. that's only one of the allegations. The other one is that he colluded with nancy. Pelosi and chuck schumer and his his officers and told them you know you to me. You don't answer the president. I mean he did quite just read summaries excerpts from the book there's four or five things that are absolutely criminal and he should be if if one of them is true or if he were Doing this in support of a republican. He would be gone today. He would be fired today. The only reason he's not fired already the only reason there's not unanimity in the media is because as usual trump derangement syndrome trump hatred. But you read this and you say. I knew the guy was arrogant. I knew he was in a whole. I mean i've seen enough see enough press conferences especially during the withdrawal or testimony about white rage that he's so concerned and he's busy. You know reading rubber dangelo. And abraham kindy just so woke a whole you just knew it. He didn't realize he was a criminal. You didn't realize he was a traitor. I mean this by any definition you read any sober analysis of this. It is certainly worthy of a court martial going behind the back of a president saying. Don't listen to him listen to me. That's something out of a movie. I mean that's that's that's some some something you know. Tom clancy would right if he were still alive. It's bizarre and the. I was wondering this when i first heard it. I said how are they going to spin it. How are they going to present it. They going to defend them and they're found a way as you said. Oh trump was unhinged. He had to do it. Well first of all. That's not his call to make second all prove it. Prove it unhinged. What did he do other than you know. Stupid tweeting and an insane. Some dump stuff. What did he do on. what did he say how. what did he do. That's on trump. Didn't do himself any favors. I mean as much as his the ways tweeting style and and his aggressiveness. when he was with the media helped him get elected. That's also sort of proof. At least to you know to some ears into some is that he was unhinged. So i don't think it's going to be It'll be in the you know. The the court of public opinion is where this is going to be. Tried and most people agree. Most people will think he was unhinged. So oh this seemed like a reasonable action by. It's going to be tough because bob woodward wrote a book. He's worn many many books for some reason people talk to him. i wrote a book. Critical of trump. And i blame. Trump one hundred percent for that trump sat down. I believe it was I forget the number fourteen times fourteen hours with bob woodward upward woodward her clearly hated trump and didn't want to do favors and trump's ego got the best of me said i can convince him you know i. I'll change his mind which was never going to happen. you can go to trump said some dumb stuff to woodward game pullout quotes to promote the book. And i'm sure the book sold well. And i'm sure everybody who is now going to question the veracity of of a what's in the new book is going to say previously said. They believe what they believe. The things would would wrote about I don't bush or a or a or trump or their political enemies. Well what are they gonna do now if they believe it even if you spin it and say you know. Trump was irrational. It is by definition. Treasonous what he did so this puts. Bob woodward has put his friends in the biden regime. Put his friends in the mainstream media in a tough spot because this makes me The accusations against milly are as bad as it gets. I mean they're literally a punishable by the death penalty if you prove treason. There's the idea that he would survive this. The idea that he remain as the chairman of the joint chiefs remain a general the highest ranking a person in the us military. I mean that that can't happen. I mean that cannot happen. He has to be done and again if he were doing this. In support of trump against biden he'd be gone to be gone by now by by bud today by. What is this wednesday. It's wednesday had become by lunchtime. He'd be gone by by dinnertime. It'd be a warrant arrest. You know he'd be this. He would be disgraced in every possible way. In the quarter public opinion in criminal court military court there would be no but here is why a system is so screwed up right now there are still people in jail in dc in a probably right down the street from where millions right now is probably having breakfast at the four seasons A sitting there you know with stack of pancakes and the big big good eggs benedict drip it all over himself. The slob right down the street from where. Millie is there people in jail in solitary confinement for trespassing on january sixth. If you don't follow again. Julie kelley on twitter. You should because she chronicles in every day. And it's amazing this yesterday. She got a letter from a veteran. A combat veteran from iraq who trespass that day and is still in solitary in the reason given by the judge is that he was a veteran. And that means he's dangerous because he was in the military so he using the guy service against them keeping them in jail as we know the viking man he's still in jail he. He assaulted nobody. Could it be broke. Nothing you just trespassed and made howl like a wolf in the in the senate chambers. That's it. he's been solitary for eight months. All those people grandmothers veterans people with red hats who took sophie's in the capital. We'll do more time than general milley who committed treason. It's so bizarre to me that there's no we can't even agree that what he did what milly did is wrong..

"I was about to do this show and I see that the great Norm Macdonald died like ten minutes before I started putting the equipment together. That sucks I'm not a great what a funny, funny guy. You know, like a lot of people didn't get them, but if you didn't get norm McDonald to me, you just didn't get comedy. Like that was a guy that really knew what a joke was supposed to be about. He didn't care if he just didn't care if you laughed in that. He almost did it for his own enjoyment, but also he knew how to craft a joke. I hate to sound like an asshole. You guys don't get him. But really, there are comments and there are comics comics. And he was a comics comic, like he's one of those guys that comics go and see.

Live is they could fuck and things could bomb like really only live and the early letterman. You could see people fucking borrow. Yeah no less. And there's no other place on tv every other place every every joke. It's it's amazing moment even when you watch old decapa shows like and that was a popular show and you're watching if you watch them now. The audience almost does nothing. You know he'll get a joke off and he's nothing because people didn't have the same expectations that they do now. These fucking people who run the run. Tv right made it like that. You know there's something about you can be funny without there being a ridiculous moronic joke. Every thirty seconds can accept people just being people for a minute. Sure there's at harvard. Wish talk shows with. Maybe you can do it or something. That the You know carson. You'd never see the audience know you never see. The audience listened to audiences. We are touching the audience. I mean that was the first thing that i noticed about jay and i've never done a show. I got no beef with them. I just don't want you to show and all of a sudden out there. Touching people doing is a zoo. It's funny because letterman and leno do that and really the guy who let me doesn't touch him well but i mean there. He's theater feels like a real thing. It is but it's not completely separate like late late night right but We're up in a little pen. The audience they're up there in the and six feet up in their in a box and just talking about it. Now i think probably the guy who Changed it did it. The best was Vuk and arsenio. He was the guy that could get there. That's the only time this is being said in this country right now. No but he leno's looked so after we'll slapping people's hands. Yeah i'm in This guy was the genius doing the monologue were. I don't even remember jokes. I think you just do topics. Yeah he was just talk. He was not anything he was not about saving a a moment but the audience. I mean the audience in that show was so Into the so part of the show you know so now what happened with sports show. Oh i don't know it was just a. It was on comedy central and i i watched it was funny and sports guy. You're funny it was nice not yeah it was it was it was because i think i don't know i don't really give a fuck but it was really. Don't give a buck now. You talking about to match that The the it's funny. Because people think i should like when i got five i still get asthma. Snl thanks thanks for not asking me about it. I don't know why now. I just brought it up but when i l people still ask me like fact. Don't you hate that guy. Got what no he was the. He didn't think it was funny. I get it i understand. Also there's so much politics involved that bullshit. I got actually a weird question in. I don't know if you can answer for me. But i'm obsessed with it and i discussed with people that have been on. Snl but but you come into it specifically there before you got fired. There was a point there where you were negotiating. The you might not go back to the show correct. No there wasn't ever a point where you were sort of like the not deciding whether or not you were going to renew your contract. No me no. Why well no. Because they brought me in like i met with lauren. I did the high. Jump what i yeah. I jump through all the hoops. Really i was. I was the guy. But what. I what i understood later i just i. I didn't get it obviously and it went nowhere right but i like someone came up to me a fucking writer who. I don't remember his name but he had written. He was like he was on the beat back then. I can't remember his name. But like after you know. After i went through all that he came up to me and said yeah they were just trying to pressure norm. No that's not true because i told I will learn at one point. I do it forever. I said what if i was like walter cronkite on ask for much my. I just thought i could just do until i'm sixty five. And he's like yeah but No that could have been it but it could have been. It was probably they were getting ready to to get rid of me because they always pretended it was don almir but i think it was. I don't think that's true. You just think of it in house. I think it was everybody everybody because it was a particular thing where we had A lot of autonomy on update. Well this and they tried to taito jay and everything else. And and what do you think will say. Will you just think it was a business decision. i think i think it was That we had a lot of autonomy on update which didn't make people feel very happy division hell networking and we. Jim downey it was me. And jim and jim was was very learn. Little like a Rightfully respective of jim jim on his own. So anyways I think the whole show is tired of me. Not taking marching orders. All really i think so like lauren would learn hints that things like he would go like. I don't know if you really. Because i do michael jackson jokes. Because i don't really know. If you want michael jackson to you wanna lawsuit by michael jack suggesting pass like retard just answering questions i go. That'd be fucking cool. Michael jackson suing and i'm in court with him and then he stuff to later and then right. Yeah so he would say basically in in a slightly passive aggressive way. Maybe you shouldn't do that word. And i'm such a retard the passive aggression does not work on the. I need aggression. Let's innuendo thing have a problem with. Don't do i keep missing. And i wish the guy would just go. Don't do it. And i wouldn't do it but he says suggests that i gotta that's hilarious. Are you working on some now. I'm mostly do stand up. I mean there's always like a always like poker anymore targeted thing. Oh now i do. I don't know fogarty illegal now. So i'm not sure it's illegal. It's yeah they shut down on the site. So so how you doing with that thing. Oh ambling enough Man yeah gambling is a. I don't know you know. I kind of Like i went broke like a few times when i actually had lots of money gambling three times gambling with gambling and i mean broke dead. Brooke like and So would you call yourself a degenerate gambler. Degenerate has a negative attitude certainly compulsive yeah and but I don't know what it was i. I'm not a psychiatrist. But i do know this when i would go broke because they say gamblers to lose and stuff. Yeah always seem odd to me. But i will say the three times that i went broke for a lot of money i had a very freeing feeling. I would go to the coffee shop and have a cough yet. It'd have nothing is a lot of me is Trying to get the fuck Ascetic as i can in my life really so is his anything like you would recommend if you wrote a book on zen. It would be like go out and make a bunch of stupid bets. Lose everything and.

"How funny it is and then you get anxious because you can't stop laughing. I guess it's that. Like i laugh a lot like great as a comic. Yeah again i tell you. I've never trusted people. That don't laugh like i've worked on shows and shit sitcoms and stuff like that where the mother doesn't laugh. Yeah he's the head writer you're not a laughing and nothing. Yeah and then. It's all math to him. It's mad haiku and like the best. Guys i've met are guys that are able to laugh and fucking you know. So what with the so when you grew up. What you folks do My dad were poor and stuff But later my dad became an teacher so we had a little bit of money. Yeah we live in a rural with animals. For what was it dead farm. Yeah it was my father's father's farm but that by this point it'd become dead but it was interesting because everyone old where i lived except me and my brothers was so i i was with old men all the time. Yeah i like them Yeah i really like them. Do you still hold people love them. I love super bowl people because it's like it helps you with perspective. You know what i mean like. There's a fucking tha- there's a thing. Like i love country signs and shit. But there's a this myth about old guy that never forgot about the girl and his drinking. And that's not true right when you meet people go hey heartbroken. They in and they don't care how you remember like comedy to them. Yeah there was shit this morning Everything's they have incredible perspective. And then i was thinking you're only get that perspective instantly. Just pretend you're fucking old man and a and Forget it instantly. It's so funny that so many young people dismiss old people as as burdens or like. No one dies in the house anymore. Everybody put out to pasture somewhere and Like i have to fight. Sometimes when i see really old people. I immediately i get this visceral. Oh god they okay oh that they might die that they might die or that like you know like i'm going be like if i'm lucky to be the guy that might make it across history You you know that. That's the big payoff in like. It fucking throws my mortality might in my head. Yeah but like i. I mean i'm not saying i like it. Firm people are being deathbeds. No no no. I know you mean but like if you like when you talk to old people that They've lived through things. They have a perspective and a wisdom from actually living life. Yeah and like you. Don't learn a lot from an older gore phobic. I remember a. What's his name. Rodney dangerfield said a great thing to me. I mean he was. He came to do a saturday. Remind me to show you this picture. I have of him. And i never met ryan. Yeah so he came to do well. There's two things that are very funny. One is When we were booking rodney lawrence at rodney is going to be in tampa on update. Updated always do that. We'd have to somehow forced this person on update and we would know what to do. You have respect for him. Oh i loved. I loved reading. So so jim downey who is a great writer a harvard true intellectual and he said he's like how are you gonna do rodney and then so he had an idea where i would go rodney. You know you've been in the business now fifty years and has it gone he goes. I get no respect respect and do a couple of jokes. I can't believe that what about you're certainly our children and respect. What what about your bartender. I mean and He'd bartender doubly read guy looked like me. I can't believe this your bartender. So that was my digit. Rodney daddy pitches rodney over the phone. Goes here's what you're talking him and let me talk to norm. Then he goes out with me he goes. Who is this fucking guy. Doesn't he know my whole thing is. No respect is bugging sega things so that i told down. He said yeah. I like rodney just thinks writer as a guy who paid five bucks right. Rodney came to the show. And we've had you know dress rehearsal and then the show. So why don't we have the fucking new dress rehearsal. I had to run. yeah Why can't do dress rehearsal. You know i know my fucking jokes. I just. I don't know rodney. Like i don't have to do and he goes i fucking shit because it's because i tell you kid he goes. It's all weight. Fuck it because you know movies are shit in a trailer. Way too fucking. Tv shit is shit. Because you're always remember this and he looks me in the eye right. he goes. Stand up and stand up the only thing. Then there's like a two minute pasi of standups fucking shit alone in a room of them. So shaka's negated. The entire world are the funniest thing was. The josh. Josh with us was Was an internet saturday night. Live so i guess. I have a bit of cruelty. Sometimes in me but josh would always tell this joke to me and i him to tell this joke to everybody thought was funny and he'd say Adjust as he talks these right here. Yeah he would go to gay guys and And one why gay guys goes the other. Gay guy avenue game for you hide and seek. I'll hide you try to find me and and if you find me get fuck my ass behind the couch retarded jug said-magomed eleven. Yeah so then you remember. I made you the fucking rodney were Stuck in this real narrow. Does rodney knows dan. There all curmudgeon twitching and moving around rocking and so then josh stumbled through the joke and the writing looks at it he goes. I'll tell you kid. I'm not much for most for most of our jokes in the history of ever will you. I remember we're talking about rodney like i. I never really met him. But i was did not do well. I mean i like because i wasn't established comic. You know really in Like i worked the door at the store. And he came on once I used to see him around a bit but like what broke. My heart was weird. They did this roast of him like our tribute at the aspen comedy festival and then the dudes that they got on it was like paul rodriguez. I think saga was there. And they're like three or four other guys. And i had this weird moment where i realized that he was sort of a marginal character within his own generation two comics so he was so depressed and miserable truly right and and like.

"The word what was that part of lawrence thing. I wasn't that the season where he's like. Let's let's you stand ups you know it's sort of like that scene in the right stuff whereas i want test pilots. I want stand up comedian. And and what was the struggle. How often did you deal with lorne around that stuff. Well the great thing about lauren. As he'd do you could do anything you want it. He would tell you why is like wisdom when buddha guy right there never make sense or you always walk. there'd be like i remember one time he wanted me like this is actually a weekend. Update they wanted me to do weekend. Update with a lady. Like two of us and i was like that. Sounds like in fucking shit. Like if there's a lady anna do like what are we making fun of local news. I know now he's like you'll be hit some crazy like i think he liked me because i didn't understand what he was talking and he goes like you'll be a fred astaire and she'll be ginger you'll like you know give her the sex comedy and she'll give you the sax and i was like the dancers i know fucking so anyways i i don't know if i can do with a lady left franken. Yeah so Franken was going to do it. Yeah this was franken me so I care that much about so Because i could just stand up but anyways what happened was was funny. Like steve martin walked in because he is hosting. Yeah and lauren to embarrass me. What let's see. What steve's thinks about steve martin the fuck about anything but he goes nor wants to with the thinks. Big on on steve minds completely interested in dragged into something no part of but luckily he said out of the blue goes off. Lucky because i did this award show with some broad and they paired me up with her and she fucked everything up. I guess they stuck them and long as. Oh there's some support from an unexpected place that's how you got update. Yeah steve martin lawrence bad experience with an award show and get to run the so on the update us. Vazza fucking good moment. But i would have been in big trouble with a lady but then later did they did it with a late in dude because he kept saying. Oh remember because. I know saturday night. Live like all of us right. Yeah and he's like remember. Remember jenin jenin dead and that was shit like i remember january ignorant slut right but i also remember all the rest of the fucking shit like he had a hat on and pretend to be from the late they played character. Yeah and i. I was not interested in that. Because dan is kind of changed to dennis miller. Where where you do joke joke said you don't you're not doing a parody of a fucking did now. What what was the reaction to you when you first took update because i remember and it was definitely made it your own. Because you're one of those guys as you're sort of establishing here that you can only do what you do. Yeah i can't do. Well i can't. Yeah the big problem. I guess with me with update is i'm not politically aware at all so i was like why can't Political right you know. I can't don't know how to do it but it was interesting though. Because you're updating the way you do comedy a ride that line of like you're almost like the thing that makes it so cutting and shocking. It's so fucking plane we said this is what bullshit. No but it's a good thing was my plan to cut through the bullshit. Yeah i thought. Because i don't like cleverness that much like i always was Again what's an example of that like sexual innuendo out rather than sexual like you know what i mean. I don't like that. My mother can giggle at some joke on. Will and grace and then i can say to a no. No you know that means right it's Gonna fucking another guy. No i'm like it's the same thing. Why can't you just fuck. And why can't they say he's gonna fuck them in the end. Yeah and you get the same something cowardly about like cloaking or. I don't know psychological ship but it must be some level of dissociating yourself slightly from what you actually know the truth. Innuendo protects you from seeing the reality able to laugh at it. Yeah yeah but why god in these days why would you need innuendo. Yeah no i to me. I'm shocked that anyone thinks you could be shocked by anything. Yeah i i find that now. The only thing that's shocking is when someone tells the fucking truth which is a guy can't come back. Update i was saying i. I said the perfect joke would be at the punch line. And the and the setup were almost identical. Yeah and then we. I think we ever get a joke like that. It'd be cool and then we actually did get one joke. That was pretty close. They're not perfect. But it was a lyle. Lovett is li- eleven and And julia roberts are getting a divorce and You know people close to the couple say. The reason is because He's lyle lovett and she's so i was pretty close. That was the grail. And i don't know if we've completely got him when that that youtube thing that was going around i think it was. Where were you at a. Where was that where you did the the old jokes at the rose. I have is a roast. Yeah what was. What was your agenda behind. That i mean. What were you thinking. 'cause like out very popular and everyone thought it was so fucking. It was like they put genius. It wasn't it wasn't it wasn't genius. But i just want to know. Why did it well. The reason it was because it was a roast. For bob sag right. Who's a friend of mine. Yeah and i don't. I i guess i don't like roasts..

"Yeah you're gonna work yeah. It was a great place to start because First of all there's no industry in canada. There's no movies or television. Isn't there a little in doesn't just there might be now but when i was doing there none because it's horrible if you stay there long enough and you don't leave that you will be given television show of some kind of a certain amount of their awful canadian. Everything about the candidates sucks really well in terms of of entertainment. Yeah like all the entertainers leave and most of them. Don't wanna go somewhere mad. 'cause 'cause they weren't recognizing canada but But so we didn't anyways. We didn't have a movies or tv to do. Yeah and so we just did stand up and we thought that's all there was was just going which was fun. I just being standups going around the country. Doing stand up and then When i got to l. a. is suddenly i was like holy. Fuck everybody's handsome dinner. 'cause we weren't handsome handsome louis. Ck once said that to me like furious at some point. When i think when jay more i started doing comedy right when jay more showed up on the scene and this is not meant to piss off jay more in any way. You louis was aggravated. Because he's like it wasn't four. They're looking you know letterman before i'm fat and bald now. It is very true handsome. I used to really have problems with handsome people Like friends you know would bother me so much. I watch friends. And i said fuck. These are the funniest super handsome people ever i. I'll give that to them. Who are you guys probably harder so fucking handsome. Well yeah because people expect you to have your shit together. So i think that's the hardest sell for handsome people's like my life is fucked up. You possible can fuck really bad. You've got all your hair as hard to be sympathetic character when you really attractive it is when you started out the who your guys with the guys you hung out with it. They still around you. Still keep in touch with them. and canada. they're like The guys that were big most people canada's like it's the same every fucking Goddamn city i go to everybody. This is the fucking best comedy city rush worship and i remember i'd be on the road wherever the fuck you were. You know you'd be dallas on. We'll man. He's the funniest guys ever way to the and there's there's always one mythic guy. Go fucking kenny. That guy the funniest guy ever. But he's a heroin and if he wakes up and then he would sham. The and saturday night says in about aids or semi go. what the. It doesn't seem that funny. I guess he's funny. If you own the local hero that could never get out and then you win. Whenever they're past that prime of whatever made them popular small then they finally going to do it. I'm going to go to la rogin. Men used to be the guy meant Rodney dangerfield because i Do you remember the book. I think it was the last laugh. Or something lenny. Yeah there was a secondary. I wish i remember his name. Joe something there was. There was a character. Wait wait s. Joe answers so. I know i read. That book was like the bible. Lenny bruce biography by go and so ances- was the funny guy right that never went on onstage. That's right brilliant. Funny guy right and they all you know. I and i met him dangerfield. You did dangerfield came. And did saturday night live and he joins us with joe hansen and then i waited two hours for him to say anything funny and i was like. I don't know maybe just fucking drugs for them resentment or maybe it just took longer back. Then you know. Maybe it wasn't something about laugh efficiency. Well yeah and maybe also he was stuck in that time. Maybe lenny bruce like if he were here now would not be very book. I think goldman probably be exploited that because like in my mind behind every genius or some dude going fucker stole my shit you know and usually there's a reason then why didn't you get on stage. It's like i don't do that. Shut up and also the officers. Don't know shit yeah like you know. Every time they do a fucking article they come to you. I'm sure they've done articles. And then you you try to tell them like what's the real story. Yeah and they still fucking right what they want what they had already seen it. They taken out of context. They frame it the way they want. If you had a lot of experience with that little bit like a people i've There was a time when i was alive. Everyone hated it. You know when we were doing update the they hated the headed sandler and farley. You mean critics at critics sam so It was pretty everybody. Oh it's dad's dare nausea and so They came and the guy had an agenda obviously and But he was very unfair. Like sandler was very funny. And nobody's finding it was funny farley and Then he presented his. If these guys were all doing stick and everyone's looking away embarrassed. And i remember him laughing so he. It was very frustrated. They made farley. Never forget it was uncovered new york new york magazine and they had farley. Do a photo shoot or hit a television on his head. And i was. I was kinda funny. Farley's doing a big like crazy physical thing with this. Btv as head and then they put it on the cover and they said his comedy comedy dad. And how did he respond to you. He wanted to go. Beat up the guy. Lawrence lawrence really can't beat up beat up the reporter but he was angry he he was so he was more angry because they not for him but because they attacked sandler actually he was very protective. Well that that whole crew you were you were part of that crew that they seem tighter than most. Snl cruise like farley sandler spayed. You like you guys seem like a real kind of rat. Pack of comedic We're right because we're except for farley. We were i'll stand ups So we kind of fucked actor and like before us chris to or now chris. Rock iraq was there too. Yeah so you're all sitting around going do a character Women so all we knew has had a directly into the camera right. And that's the only good thing we were good at and but the rest of it was was was real tough and so i wouldn't. I would plead with people. Not to put me in sketches. You know because. Sometimes i would think of a good idea right. The sketch do it but but so but anyways the point is before us there was this great cast and even now does this great cast of actors right which probably should be what saturday night live is not yet and as a matter of fact thing all acting she probably preclude standups for the most part but now you know they're so there they know how to talk to each other's channel baid and i just can't remember. I can't imagine the the cynicism approaching a sketch with you guys know that's what we'd mostly do is. We'd spend the first half of the night writing the sketch on the second of the night. Crumpling it up saying i should. It was because this is another thing that i noticed coming from stand-up into because i was never had any desire to be anything other than a standup everything else just accidentally happened from. Stand up you know. But some for some reason in hollywood go i guess because of bill cosby. Roseanne barr some people who've had rice and standard. Well he can. He can build a show around them. You any children throw no living room not an xs..

"I used to love be booksellers. When did you do there. Oh lord you're going back to nineteen eighty you know my my parents and family moved down there with my dad. Got transferred and It was as close by. I a job there. You know and ended up for the tunnel. Always there Started out in the back room. Receiving the books getting them all the labels and stickers and stuff and putting them out and then got beyond the register in that kind of stuff you know so ended up stocking and working that i love being down there because it was right down the street from the windmill dinner theater and a lot of actors came through doing plays there and a few of my she stop in the store to buy some stuff excellent but i got instilled in reading. Men was watching spenser for hire series on television. And one of the ladies that worked percent if you love the show who should read the books to read in the books and behold from their own. Isn't it interesting. How things often start with television I know that my love's mystery started with watching honey west way back in the day now going back more. Yeah but yeah. It's just funny. I'll have like that. You know when i got into reading rubber parker than but display in john d. Macdonald's just went from there and you know is started loving whatever. I can get my hands on all. Great stuffs well Tell us about arthur nikai. He's an interesting character. An excellent reign of former member of the special ice unit and a native american correct. Exactly how did you come up with this character not to mention his wife. Who's a news reporter. I thought that was interesting. Please tell us more. Sure i mean i. I started thinking about developing i. I took a two week vacation out there. And i traveled the route. That's in the book. So whatever i saw one that way dictated into a tape recorder and came back and transpose. It all down. You know this sort of developing characters and backstories the characters and I stumbled across. I wanted to be different in a lot of ways and other writers out there writing about that and not not as far as police goes or whatever it may be you know. But i developed arthur nikai based on my love for our kalashnikov by the native american flute player. And at the time. One of my friends. Where i worked a million years ago. It seems like now Whose first thing with arthur. So i liked the way that rain together. So i use that they'll to character that As far as his. Wife sharon goes. I actually was texting back and forth in the mornings with one of the local reporters in the nbc station here and chicago and Wanted to ask her some questions about you. Know what you give up to have this life you have. I wanted to make her real and things that happen In their life once you have that job while things you don't get to do You miss a lot of birthdays. Anniversaries you're always on the air doing something you know so. She helped out a lot with that. And i developed that curator of the other ones of jake. Bill cody which is loosely based on my grandfather large barrel chested man. You know With that so i start molding these people into what i i have now needs really interesting the way your travels informed your fiction writing. So yeah i. What was the whole plan to do that. Because you know you can't just look online and find pictures and things and do things and men do searches. you have to be there. And that's what i found out a long time ago. I told on hillerman once at the her father helped me understand the importance of descriptive sentencing. You know surrounding sect place I think robert parker helped me develop a dialogue kind of conversations in books. So i use those along with that. I had to be there. You have the smell that you have to see to taste it and feel the heat feel the cold in order to convey that to the reader in the book and a lot of people who have read my books feel like they're right there in the situation in the area. I love that.

"I came here from las vegas that and air. Airplanes go from airports guys were asked everyone. My idea had occurred to me. That ide- is strange abbreviation. Because i is short for i and then d. this short for identification seems to me d. is doing most of the they were on but vegas was called them amado in they got their own slogan for the city is what happens in vegas stays in vegas which is not true. You know you can't kill a guy and then just leave now follow you. They'll find you. They'll bring you back and they'll try it in front of a jury of your peers. So i thought well what does it mean. Anyways i ruminated about it days and days and nights. Sleepless weeks became sleepless more weeks and finally it occurred to me. Here was so simple. It was right in front of my face the entire time. Whatever happens in vegas stays in vegas. All really means is you can go to vegas. You can have sex with a prostitute. She will not tell your wife. They're very discreet. The laws vegas prostitutes. Yeah now it is gossipy small town ores back where you live plugging blabbermouth down at the beauty parlor with that pale. Blue thing over their head wherever the fuck that is on your jeers. "And this is this. It's bad mothership right there. Terrible mothers cuckoo's or whatever ogden nash but then in your essay you take a person who has been kind of doing that and then you put it back onto the project. So there's there's even a little espionage. And i love that. It's just cover. That's one of my favorites But speaking of bird watching. I couldn't help but think about how this many of the essays in this collection involve birding and bird and the first book of course is about falconry and. I wonder if it seems like you have occupied both positions in your life. And how does it feel differently. How does it feel different to be someone who is writing about being a bird versus somebody who's writing about being trained falkiner. It's it's different an interesting. That's interesting cultural differences aso In britain there is a stark. It has been a much wider. Division between. Full kinison buddies. So the kind of burning tradition in this country will bird watching as we call. It tends to be quite It's generally quite a working. Class has been quite working class thing. It's also being something which It's been aligned to a certain kind of scientific naturalism and it's also being kind of set very much against hunting culture which is much more kind of portion involves landed gentry and people like that So falconry is very much hunting in britain. And there's a lot of distrust between falcons and burgers for that reason it america. That's been a much much closer relationship between those two disciplines. I guess and So a lot of the raptor. Biologists in america hurt have been focus. And you know this sort of general sense. I don't if it's still the case. But there was a general sense that focus the ultimate form of burning. It allows you to be close to an animal is behaving as a wild animal. It's flying free. It's doing what it does in the wild only you don't even oculus right. It's it's right there. So i think it's really fascinating but that you know it's such a clear example of how social history can completely impact the way that we think about the ways we interact with the natural world. I have had angry comments from burgers. And i've had angry comments from focus and i have had people refuse to believe that i can do both really trust me honey. I can do but it's a fascinating area. And i think those kind of boundaries between acceptable and non-acceptable ways of interacting with nature. Really interesting places for me to look at. And when i was a historian of science i spent a lot of time being really interested in what's called boundary work in the science. It's and that is. How do you police those. How do you differentiate science from non salons in many ways. It's very easy if you're doing physics it's kind of easy to know which is in which isn't but if you go down with binoculars watching birds that's kind of what ornithologists do. And what ethologist do you know how do you sustain those boundaries. And there's a lot of really interesting On that particular phenomenon why is it important. Or why is it becoming less important to establish those boundaries of when you're doing science and when you're not i think the case i was looking at was the early days of the Animal behavior in the field studies. So you know So for many sciences you had a situation where the technologies of science or the spaces of science were extremely obviously professional so laboratory's particle accelerators have them then. But you know that's that's science right if you're an ethologist what you're doing is wandering around field to the paramount killers. And there's no way you can really differentiate yourself from a bird watcher except you write papers or you..

"My parents moved to a little house in the south of england on a happened to be on an estate owned by the theological society. I don't know if you know much about this. Wondrously strange nineteenth century spiritual society. But they all wear all the theo sophis- so my mom and died were not only agnostic but also pretty hard bitten journalists. It was a really unlikely place for us to suddenly be sort of to find ourselves and growing up there. Was this really unusual education. People wondered around in that pajamas. Sometimes you know there was naked man once posting a letter outside my house. That was quite alarming but quite normal for this place. There were meetings and fires and all sorts of esoteric goings on but there were also italian gardens and huge. Claimable cedar trees gingko trees parkland ponds and i sort of went farrell. In this place there was a summer house across the road. That apparently was a favourite of arthur conan. Doyle and on neighbors were. they were immense. They were all pretty elderly ladies one war egyptian necklace that she being given by howard carter and another great walk in a draw. They all had passive luminous eccentricity and strangeness of the refugees from nazi germany fuel sipping band during the war and they made their way to prison and looking back on it. I think these elderly ladies had a huge impact on my life. you know they. They were very privileged many of them but they had turned their back on the expected way. Their lives should go. They just did what they wanted and they did. It took new prison israeli and idiosyncratic and glorious and they really made me feel. I could could call the life i wanted. I didn't have to do what i thought i ought to do. And i was very lucky growing up there because the park was kind of wild had it was very safe and i had a childhood that it was very unlike. I think many sheltered lives. Today i could just run free across this sort of fifty acres. What i did was look for life. So everything i tend rock for bugs and i feel johnson aquaria with tadpoles and knutson spend a little time in this sort of meadow with my face pressed into the grass. You know looking into this tangle of roots and stems and king these tiny animals the size of a sort of punctuation mark crawling around. I wasn't unhappy child. But i was quite alone child. And what these animals did was really special to me They made the world bigger and more interesting. And i crave that company and i learned all the names from field guides because i wanted to know their names the same way that i wanted to know the names of my friends at school..

An essay collection called vesper flights in this collection and in this episode mcdonald moves back and forth through topics ranging from scientists to swans and into childhood memories and then forward into an ominous future. Mcdonald's skillfully links her own experiences. Not only with the natural wild world but with a very human world there is grief to be sure about the irreparable damage to this world in sixth grade extinction already in motion but there is also all mcdonald's work abundant wonder and beauty. A little later in the show mcdonald will be joined by the oregon writer. Elena passarella here's mcdonald. Who spoke to us from her home in england. So it's a real pleasure to be with you all and i hope that in Bright at times to calm able to see we'll in person right now. I'm i'm here in my house. In england with a cup of coffee and Before i start talking I guess. I wanna make a confession. A lotta people recently have told me that convinced. I'm i'm coping with This grim pandemic by spending all my time wandering around in the countryside taking solace from the natural world and i have not been coping with pandemic that way. I to just confess to everyone that that's been a lot of sitting on my sofa eating pint of ice cream watching action movies and we paying so i want to just put that there as a kind of to start with so as many of you know. My loss ages for hawk was a memoir about the sudden death of my father. And how i dealt with that by training a goshawk. Very ferocious boat of pray. I don't recommend that as a way of dealing with bereavement generally but it was very instructive experience But my new book. The flight is a collection of essays and for years the word essay would sign me into a kind of blind panic. I was the kind of child. Never get their homework on time. I would constantly in trouble and at university. It got worse. I'll never forget the look on the faces of my cheetos as as like yet again failed to produce the we're supposed to produce the faces turned to sort of exasperated frustration. But i've lent now. I love essays to absolute distraction. They seem to me to do things that longer. Pieces of creative nonfiction. Just can't they seem like exercises in fierce attention in love and wonder An fashioned from those things and i increasingly feel are a little bit..
