"Health service and doctor Macaulay and their high risk team just giving their expertise working with all the different groups together, communicating and the community members out there, you know, they have their unwavering contributions and continued 24/7 and it changed leadership because for me, you know, business as usual still, but the focus was on the pandemic. We need to save people, you know, the certain projects will have to just have a pause that doesn't mean it's going away, it means we have lives to save here because that whole thing, you can always replace a material item or you can replace something but you can not replace a human life. So that was very profound and especially our elders. They are our wisdom keepers. They are the people that lived the closest to the earlier times. And we needed that history, the oral history, the tradition, the culture, the heritage, the language, and we had to do everything that we could to make sure that lives were saved and unfortunately. We lost a few 63 total one from complications, which the total came to 64, but our total case fatality rate was .028%, our vaccine rates with some of the highest, it just changed leadership because we went from the day to day what we were working on to everyone go home. Shelter in place, we need to see through this pandemic. And in our lifetime, we've never had to endorse such a. Extreme measure, but families out there have their share of challenges and having to adapt and being innovative and these challenges made you think, okay, what do we need to do next? All for the sake of helping our white mountain Apache people and the people that live here, not just here, but elsewhere we shared our information. Other tribes would come and call and ask, how are you doing this? And we would share our information even with local communities because at a time like this, you need to share with one another to save one another. Right. And you know, I'm betting it was really difficult to tell people to stay away from each other and not gather because that was part of COVID restrictions back in back in the day, but what was that like for you to tell people oh, we're not going to we're not going to have this ceremony or we're not going to gather for this fair or holiday time.

"Victims. Put aside clay just that the due process violations that I think are just inherent in red flag legislation, right? And put aside all the ways that it could be abused and everything else, which I'm not saying those are important. I'm just saying, for our discussion right now, just in terms of efficacy, Illinois has red flag laws to prevent the purchasing of firearms, right? That's what Illinois has. We're going to take away to take away your legally owned firearms. If it doesn't stop this guy, if the law enforcement apparatus doesn't stop this individual with those kinds of laws. Who do they stop? I just buck Again, and I know there are a lot of parents out there reacting like I am to this. Your kid has 16 knives a dagger and a sword and is threatening to kill everyone in your family. And then you ate in a bet him and going to buy four guns? Even if he wasn't going to do violence to you and your family, which you evidently took seriously enough that you called the police. Think about the kid doing violence to himself, buck. I'm reading. They thought he was going to kill himself. So if you were a gun dealer, would you feel good about selling a firearm? This guy walks in. All right, we all know what he looks like. We all know he presents. Would you feel good about selling this guy a rifle? I mean, I know you say don't judge a book by its cover. This cover was insane. Obviously. Yeah. And again, I wanted the dad. I'm reading from this. When he bought was under 21 when he signed up. There was insufficient basis to establish a clear and present danger and deny the FOI application in Illinois. I mean, how many kids ever have 16 knives a dagger and a sword in their possession? That's weird in and of itself, all right? Let's just be honest. And then you threaten to kill your entire family. You threatened to kill yourself and dad goes out and helps this mentally unstable kid. Even if he wasn't going to behave violently towards others, what's the number one way I bet teenagers kill themselves, young adults kill themselves men. They shoot themselves. So why would you want him to have possession of weapons at all? So is it possible maybe here? 'cause I'm trying to make sense of this, you know, your parent, I'm not a parent yet, you know, you ever see the movie, the good son with Macaulay Culkin. He was one of the back in the day. Right, way back in the day. And he's this little boy, and I forget where it's even set. And he's basically evil. Okay, he's a little 12 year old boy, and he's evil. And the parents, of course, don't want to believe it. They don't want to believe it. Are we just at a place where their parents were in denial of the possibility that you could have a child who was actually evil? I mean, by the way, this guy's an adult. The problem is he looks 14. He's actually 22. I would buy maybe that you don't want to acknowledge that your kid's evil, but or and again, evil's probably the wrong word mentally ill, because is it the wrong word though? It's an interesting question. Yeah, he behaved in an evil fashion, but looking at these videos and everything else, I feel like the kid is so clearly mentally ill that it's hard to even assess, but what I will say is, as a parent, you took his threats to kill the entire family seriously enough that you called the police. That to me means that you don't just think, oh, I'm willfully blind. This kid's not a threat. You thought he was a threat to your own family. And certainly he's a threat to himself if he's threatening to kill himself, and you ate it and abetted him and going to get weapons. I mean, look. It feels like this is somebody. If you had a dog that was a danger to humans, and we all know what that is. A dog that had already bitten somebody, you know, drawn real blood, sent someone to the hospital, and he said, you know what? I'm just gonna let it off the leash and just run around the neighborhood, just to see what happens. You actually would be held criminally responsible for that. And it's even worse than it's like they had kids over and they said, oh, why don't you go play with our dog in the backyard? Everybody out there listening to us right now. You can be strongly in favor of the Second Amendment and gun rights. But if you have a kid that you believe can't handle guns, you need to speak up and you need to speak out. It seems seriously. So many missed so many red flags were just ineffective responses. We'll come back to more on this. Let us know your thoughts as

"Then the fiance explains it in a way that would have completely diffused the argument in the first place when he tells him that she likes to make things in a blender. She likes to make what's smoothies. And it's like, so and it was also he added a story about how Steve Martin's character did something crazy at his parents house. And she was like, well, that's a completely ridiculous line. Dramatic irony. He does the champs. And he could have owned up to that and it's a sitcom, but it could have been completely. Oh, there's a lot of moments like that. Where he throws the bank book into the pool. And then he's trying to fish it out and the dogs are trying to get at them. And it's like, I think that was a nod by the probably either the screenwriter director of we have Steve Martin is one of the best physical comedians who ever lived. Yeah. You're like, we have to give him something to do rather than be just the whiny dad who's the voiceovers. He's like, no, I can't believe I'm losing my little girl. We got to give him something comedic to do. So he's got to follow the pool, fall off the house or something. It's like you got one of the funniest guys on earth and you're kind of saddling him with a little bit of a mopey roll. He's kind of the milquetoast. He plays a good mopey. He does. He does because he has sort of that downtrend like woe is me. Comedy. And I will say that got a little bit old for me after a while. Because that's pretty much where his voice-over would always go. I can't believe I'm losing my daughter. I guess I'm just going to be the third fiddle, I guess everybody's going to ignore me. I'm like an old pair of sneakers. You know, it's like, oh my God, dude, you know, it's just like that's his constant thing of just like he's always easy or, you know? He is very eerie. It's like cheer up, man. I could easily listen to him like reading the horse whisperer why I fall asleep. I mean, Steve Barnes got a great voice. He does. And he's an excellent banjo player. He is a tremendous man. He's middling at best. No, he is pretty much better. Take that back. He is a phenomenal musician. But that gives you an insider's personality. He's a very bright. He is the bail of flack of banjo players. It definitely the bell fleck of the SNL alumni. Yeah. So have you ever seen the picture of him, I think it's from the 70s, before he went full gray where he's like rocking full denim head to toe with like a whole bunch of Turquoise and he's banjo. Just sexiest man alive. I'll pull up a picture. Hold on. Yeah, please do. So I liked it less. I saw it in the theater when I was a little kid. And I mean, obviously the pilot because it had a great soundtrack to peel me then. Like you said, this is playing basketball. And the character Kieran Culkin, Macaulay Culkin's little brother, plays the little boy. Yeah..

"Can't tell if Kyle absolutely brought her absolutely didn't bring it with his first Succession. But there's just a lot of chatter out there. Like it's hard to have an original idea, and that's why my initial thoughts, yeah, you did that my initial thoughts was like, God, it's just the best when the kids are in the room together. And who hasn't said that before? And then also, the reason it's the best is because I think Roman ad libs, I don't know how many of his lines, but I think that's why you need to have mine to just ask me, what the hell's going on with you on screen? And are you doing that? Or if somebody doing that for you? There are moments in the show, like the dinner scene that they had when they were trying to do the merger in season two, I was asked somebody else. Can I actually see that script? Is there a script that exists? I would be shocked. I just would love to know how they even wrote that dialog. And by the way, you know the mom who's like the patriarch of the media family that they go out and visit all those a ton of blow. Yeah, the pierce family. It is below a helicopter. Yeah. Yeah, nannies, she's the she's the wife of the Portsmouth schooner in the perfect storm. Oh, yeah. She looked familiar. Yeah, she's barely aged. I threw on perfect storm the other day, which has some moments, but it doesn't serve Rudy knows it doesn't. Nothing holds up. No, actually. I mean, what we did. And you got some old salt in you. That's not that old. I mean, that came out when I was a kid, so it's not to me that's not that bad. It's 20 years old, man. I mean, I'm in my 30s. What do you want me to do? The theater with my girlfriends like relatives. It was a date night. It was pretty weird. That's a good call. And her husband. But I have a question for you guys. Have you seen Roman and anything else? I knew Macaulay Culkin had a brother, but what else is he famous for? Kia commercials. That's it? You know, it's a great question. He's amazing. He's an amazing actor. And I'm like, why is he not even more awesome shit? It's like another classic HBO casting win at which I think I don't know if a group of people or conglomerate of businesses have ever done better at like yanking people that you've never seen before, and then being like, well, I would really hope that there's at least three movies for this guy in the next couple of years. So I just think it's chalking up. Hey, by the way, through to your original point that you go from the watch, I disagree with that. I think real honor is so disrespected that no one gave a shit about his answer. And I think you had to really to do the to do the story right. You had to have the moment, which was cool and kind of clever how they pulled it off. It's like, hey, let's have all the kids meet up and talk this out. And do it the way that they would have done it over the last couple seasons. Let's have that moment here. Because that's a big moment. It's a big moment. It's all the children, talking this out and figure out. And Connor is just absolutely dump trucked almost in every possible storyline that him having any swear influence over any other siblings. I thought was irrelevant, and that's why Kendall's line was so perfect that as soon as he was like, you're out. And he's like, okay, you're irrelevant. No one cares anyway. Because he hasn't been relevant for two seasons on anything, and so I think that just reinforced it. So I honestly think shiv is not influenced by him. Candle certainly wouldn't be.

"You have done for each of you i. I'm a huge face of the brand. Honestly i mean forging those interpersonal relationships with different clients that come come to the distillery and have that experience with me. I mean i still continue friendships on with a lot of different barrel groups and people that i've met over the years to i mean like i said i was a did some other barrel picks today from with some friends from new jersey. That came down. I mean we've we've done armagnac fix together. I mean it just kinda forging those relationships for that are gonna keep going forward things that are going to be beneficial for the distillery I think that's where it's at just those interpersonal relationships. Because like i was saying earlier. It's not. I can send you a box of samples and you don't get anything out of it. It's just transaction but once you come and see the place get to kick the tires. Say oh wow is a big distiller. I didn't realize it was going to be this when you pull up getting the vibe. How about that. Affiliate getting the vibe sir and i love that. Yeah i'd say Yeah it's different when they get to actually come down there But i said when the positive thing that he said just you can't you can't say any better just to connections the people i mean. We're in about forty seven. Different states by still think maybe just alaska. There's not a state on the go in and call somebody just to have met the barrel program or whatnot and been like hey crash on your couch or you want to get a drink or let's hang out and that's like the most rewarding thing in always tell people you know i've done the mashing i've done the distillation but like none of those are nearly as rewarding to me as running that program and One of the biggest to me is like when people come in they taste us and they say like wow like. These samples are so different like this is crazy like the flavor. 'cause you mean you work hard on that i mean that's When you're kind of the face and you know you grow to be one of the faces of a company or distillery and they come in you know you've put the hard work and it may only be three samples but they don't know what it took to get those three samples there and a twin the biggest compliment. Someone can give you when they love your selection. They're like can. I bow three of these. You wanna say yes. But you know you're like no you can only take one twelve. Yeah and that's just one of the biggest compliment i think is when people come in. And you just see the excitement in there pumped. We're going to sell all of this and you know and that's just it's so rewarding Could you seem even. Even though i didn't make the juice It still i got the curate. Those samples it out. You got your little stamp on it and they know that. I thought this one was good to be in the really lighted and they liked it So that'll to me. That's one of the biggest things in would run the program as long as the let me just because i enjoyed the connections. Enjoy being in front of people you know. They've done the dislocation. But i i did a couple of weeks guy. I can't do this like no. I don't wanna be. I wanna be in front of the screen doing this and that like put me in front of people's ties it yeah exactly. I think you've got the better part tasting the aged whiskey. Yeah that's the better pardon. That's absolutely guys. I want to say thank you so much for coming on. The show today was fantastic. Tiny quick on and see we start talking about whiskey in single boroughs. We didn't even get to the cookie. Cookies rack show. What's in those true bourbon nacre doodles. They were so nice doodles but guys doing to say thank you so much for coming on here and be able to kind of tell your story tell the story behind the brand and really what you do and now that we know that if somebody does have a close relationship you're now a potential couch surfer for him so yes also enjoy getting a nice gift to bringing ball. Armagnac might get a better barrel next year yet. Come finished stock one hundred pull out go go once the turn off the air here. We're going to go back room and start finding stuff for the shit we might as we might even white label one four this morning guys. Seriously thank you so much If people do either follow you online on instagram wherever it is like how do they follow you and and if they have like i got five three now i'm just kidding. But seriously how can they. How can they follow you or each year. Distributor out of you can actually. I'm on instagram. That's my favorite social media platform and the bourbon. "And how you guys came together on that. I think that's the fun part to about doing barrel. Picks with you guys is like yes. It's young whiskey but it it's has it's so unique and so different from your typical standard kentucky profiles you know yes. Those are great but they all have similarities in with you. Know your offerings. It's like something that you can be like. Look yes this is four euros but look at how much you know. Vibrant flavors are that are not in your typical kentucky bourbon profile. Yet you know. So it's it's what i like about. You know the the good younger whiskies out in the market. You know on his point. That's a good point. So yeah i guess it is a little bit. I guess from there like all a little bit older like you know our age. You know what a product yada is like you like. We have twelve year old whiskey. Sit in the back But if like you're like hey like the flavor profiles. I don't like things like that i can. I love the work around next mci. It will make sure you have you be. I would agree with that. Absolutely what if. I'm just getting I guess you could say greedy. And i'm just like i just want more sample that lettera. That's i can smell. I can smell that. Yeah we're not here to just get drunk. We're here to do business. This is a fun experience and maybe a lot of people don't do this on a day to day operation but generally let's just say we have six group size in their one person's on the financial line for it other guys that are on their day off for good dagda right. I get paycheck for buying. Its own barrels. I do this for a living. This series so kinda. Take all that in consideration at the same time i mean could. Yeah i mean. It's a little bit like a i. Guess your reputation on the line like you know i mean they are picking the bears. Same time like you're saying like hey. This is what i thought. The best product was out there too as well. Well a different thing that i see both of our programs compared to a few others is for better lack words in charge of trading in selecting these barrels versus somebody who is just getting x. y. and z. Box from bottling or someone up the corporate ladder that says hey. This is a is offering this month. Not everyone has the privilege which down with the d. wall and So cool to be a part of the there is nothing better like seriously them seeing that fresh barrel head and pulling first sample of barrels becoming a bauge taken back in taste. And i'm like yeah. I mean it's it's truly fascinating the be part of that. Not just being like you said. Hey here's the barrels. That we chose for the program so far. So yeah because you make a good point because a lot of master distillers or other people that they're not involved with the. The single barrel program are deciding that these are. Here's your allotment and whatnot. You mean you mean the medallion on the side that says the master distiller pick is actually master. Distiller pick ryan probably more of the quality. Control all going through that but it happens it happens. I'm sure he's one guy who didn't soul there. You go you go. So what is some of those things that you shouldn't do or like. Can you talk about some stories without naming names that are like bloopers of things that have happened. You're just like is just don't do this please. Well we don't need to stay up all night the night before and be drinking all morning. Have i'm sorry it happens. Every he took me to level before big one night. i mean. let's not blow out our pallets on indian food the night before. Or you know something funky on the way up. Like that's one thing. I i try to keep cognizant of when i'm doing tastings or a select and barrels like that might not be a big thing but i mean don't go eight like garlic. Alfredo i mean visits going to affect your taste buds. Stay as we all know. But i mean don't get drunk and show up and probably the number one thing. 'cause i don't know i was saying this is an experience of people just think it's all drinking off on but i take this serious. I mean this is my perception on how this is supposed to be done as an industry standard. So let's kind of respect that and have a good time and not overdo ourselves. Because do you want come back or you just want to have all star. Good time the one time you know. Yeah well get you blacklisted from barrel. Yes if you're able to. If you'd that controls the allocations you controlled blacklists. I guess i would say Mant coming from a former like person. I used to smoke cigarettes. Like people like waiting on like you know a person to get her. We're gonna go outside and smoke a cigarette smoking cigarettes and then i come in being in a room and you can you can stuff is potent like you can smell that on somebody or I've had people drink drinking coffee as for doing a single bros selection what these rakoff like literally drinking coffee like starbucks like in sitting in the barrel rooms dot one that trump's that off this guy is to get super upset about the cigarette thing too but i just kind of wash that out of my mind. I had a guy come in. He pulls out kodiak winter. Green dip looks at me. And i was like got to put that. He asked me for a spinner. And i was like no. And you've got to put that in right now and he's like yep he's been drinking whiskey with dip in my mouth ever since i started. I'm not gonna stop and long all right You guys are buying it. So all jam larry's man nothing like winter green skull. Louis say the only time. I've done that in my mouth. Oh yeah i want to throw up to like. I don't know if it's a blooper. But i won't mention what group away we had like a. I wouldn't a brand new bourbon group. That came about right like they just didn't even know all their members though worst the facebook groups yes are they really so this facebook group coming in so they haven't met all the members there in like they auctioned off like come in help. Pick the barrel will. There's just couple down. There that came in the steeler in like the lead of their group neatly greeted him right. Like like you're here for a barrel picking. They're like yeah so they come with this this tour they come up in the barrel room they do the barrel pick in the barrel pick room and at some point you know. We had a sample secured out. They slam him back like him and his wife and he says something like. I usually don't drink whiskey. Always try to fight people and like the whole the whole. Tom like it's. It's an awkward tension instrument. Everyone's like what is going on. And then they just get up and leave. They were never even part of the group like they weren't even be or on the tour. They sat through a whole hour and a half presentation of single barrel in I still think about. I still think about that. Like randomly barrel pick crasher damn posed. You felt bad for the guy leading it because it was like you know he just put together suburban group. And he's like guys. This is totally my fault. Like i told the come with us and come up here. He's thirty nine inches to be here. Preneurs from vermont. Middle company capitalist desk intercapitalist yet. So i wanna. I wanna poke one more thing. They're like wire facebook groups. Say why do why do you think there is it. Just it doesn't feel like there's a foundation there yet or is it just like as an.

"And get caught up with emails is usually how it works. Yeah yeah andy. Noah shipping out samples on on that side things so starting off. We did ship out just because you know people like. I can't make it to you really. Are you know your reps out. There excited like these accounts have been pushing your stuff like they wanted to a barrel. But now we've learned our lesson I won't ship out any samples. Unless i have a selection date now so like are you wanna pick a barrel. That's great. give me an exact date. I'll make sure the samples or there by that time because it does free up being a craft. So i think they forget you know we. We make ten and twelve barrels. A day peerless. So it's not like. I have thousand single barrels in my arsenal. No problem. you know. We're talking maybe at tom. I may have fifteen barrels at that time. That i can we. We consider single barrel quality. Will if i got three out on the market for a month united does me. No good just takes two out of the inventory See we're very very strict on that part now with the cigarette just because you know we wanna make sure lee connect with everybody. We can and give everyone the same experience. So we've we've come to the conclusion now. That coming in person is by far the most authentic way to be able to do it. Your own coming. You're moving you're doing over doing over. Volume is is okay. It gets it gets the job done. It's nice doing them in your sweatpants the same time if you come in in we decide that we're the barrels that selected for us to taste that day aren't the direction that you're wanting. We can pull some other samples if you come in and say. This is what. I'm looking for x. Y. and z. Characteristics in this rye whisky. Then i'm gonna go ahead and pull those barrels or poll samples from that and not waste our time on something. You want full robe robust spice or do you want floor on delicate. Let's let's let's talk about it. Let's get this figured out instead of to kind of bring his tiresome one. That's ever been like so difficult and they're like i'm just not feeling it is in your like i. You know i i. I can't please you. You know well. At a certain point you got to cut draw line because you personally liable. I mean i can't just have it all all you can drink a fair there and just let them walk out the door so you you just have to draw the line at some point and generally i mean i personally curate all the barrels for the program and have a team that works with me on approving those too so i know there's something good on the table. It's not like i've just been circulating. See six for ten months way that other distillery might have other things to say exactly. It's a great point You know there's three of us so get the curate. Every barrel that goes in the program but the good thing is to make it in the program. There's myself caleb in nick. All one of his calebs niceness give everyone veto power so as he was saying like we know. These are some of the best barrels. We have that are in the program Just because if you know. I'll like it knicks. Caleb doesn't like it it doesn't go in or vice versa So that's one thing about. Caleb which i think is very respectful that he really does value. Everyone's opinion in everyone's on that panel for reason because we do have good palettes and buried different also love because i'm not a big earth guy on the palate so you know i look at those on my guy but is it bad barrel or is it just not my flavor snow years yeah in whereas kayla comes in. He's like he loves those. I mean that's like one of his favourite foot profiles in a barrel. Speaking of things that are kind of off profile abroad some bottles with us. And i think everyone has a poor of the wilderness trail pick that i brought the bourbons. Oh actually brought to teach bourbon sewer class at the distillery and we do a barrel pick at simulation at the end. If you will so we'll do a barrel pick at the end and will offer three different cash strings That you can select for it so the barrel that were we have poured right now is something that i actually kicked out of a a wine up one day and i was heading home to launch now is thinking about it and i was like did i really not like barrel or was it just different. Was it just the most off the wall barrel and the whole lineup and house like yeah it was as to go back and give it another another touch and i ended a bottle on. It said it is blended out small batch or something like that. But i'll let you guys try it out so that that's something i'm curate barrels. To like i there's a there's a difference in going through their for quality control and saying this has falls this has flaws like i need nick's it and there's a difference in going through in tasting and saying hey. This is a barrel that i needed for my program. This has these nuances the national profiles than maybe what were standard core. Kind of family is if you will so when you think about when ryan would come in like i know that you will have gone through extensive research if you will of tasting and whatever it is that goes then. It's probably the best part of the job. That makes sure that you're chasing the best whiskey that possibly can company distillery for this. If you give us three samples. And i'm like i don't. I don't know if something's here for us. Is that okay or is it like slightly annoying. You know it's you would think it may be annoying but honestly one thing Me personally i guess with our program. I love the brutal honesty. Like don't sugar coat like tell me why because it helps me figure out like all right. Was it bad barrel. It's like just not his like what are you looking for. So that's why also to before they come in always talked to the groups like what are notes that you liked. What don't you care for. Your consumers don't care for. I don't find it annoying. But may that's just me just because i do like a good challenge to. I'm usually reserved like how i'm like. I'm like i know like people like you. All put a lot of work into this and so when you bring up. I'm like okay. This is this is what it is. And i don't know what they're doing to be hate to be a you know a picky person be like odd guys like that. I don't know about. Fortunately we haven't had to do that at both. Your is operatives. Say one thing. Don't compare our products to eight and twelve year old whiskey. That is your favorite. That's that's not are offering. We're selling four-year-old year old whiskey. That it is what it is. Don't come in and say it's young. Needs two more years things like that. If that's your opinion that is your opinion should try to teach also loves sixteen year old weeded bourbon from wilderness. Trail trust me. I i think anyone at the table. I would want it more so it is what it is like. Don't say it's young things like that. I now extended by that. But we're not out here searching for ole whiskey if you're in the market for that then don't come to me. We don't need to buy something for the sake of buying it. Don't buy something because you're there by something because you loved that barrel that something that you want to bring back to your store your group and tell a story of your experience with us what you think about us.

"Years ago. Never believe him do what i'm doing. Now that's awesome great story. Yeah we'll more question like what's the most exotic animal you did handle. Can his way into this got. Where do i start from. But i i guess. I'd say the coolest one is an al if you've never seen an like spread out like under like sedation. Like an owl mess you up like or oh my gosh. She had just the talent in the clause on that thing and they can spend their head around. That was probably the most fearful animal. I saw like a price on through the pigs. I mean you name it man. We had it in their besides like larger animals we dealt. We didn't deal with horses or anything like that but it was a crazy crazy crazy experience. They are working at that place. All right back to business running back so you talk valuable taste everything and you know you kinda like say all right. You're going to the single bureau program or small batch or vice versa. Is there like a formula. That are in your head like okay. We need x amount. We wanna do for just single berle's x. amount for small badge x. Amount for sir. Is there like a like a certain percentage that you're able to allocate towards just single barrels. See i mean. I do get only a certain number of year That we are allowed single barrel just because you gotta make hold enough back for you know x amount of years. We have older age statement. Said the toughest thing because at that point when you depend on what you're allocating for the year. You have to say no to people which i hate doing like. I'm sorry we're four this year like that's probably the hardest thing about the program for me. 'cause you always wanna had that connection and stuff with people because the brand new probably want emphasis on the everyday you know brand or whatever but your whiskey geeks through this went to the single barrel. So it's gotta be a a hard ballots. You gotta take care of your stores that helped push you know your small batch and things like that but then you also want to get your product in the new hands to and you both are different skill levels as well as about. How many barrels. Per day both your around four to six years of some of the oldest whiskey that that you are producing or putting out today so you are kind of like in in parody in regards of age and stuff like that but in regards to scale it's a little bit differential. Peerless is a few less barrels per day than wilderness trail. I got just a few. There is awesome at will mistrial. Yeah so i mean when you are trying to hold stuff back yeah. It must get a little bit tougher knowing you've got hold step back to get more maturity but you do want to release something. Yeah it's it's a it's a little rough Just because you do you said you always wanna push and always ask for more you know like hey. Can i get a couple more bear. I mean you gotta try at least but You know we're very good. It's it's like. I said eventually we'll do more eventually future. We're just trying to make sure we have enough for older older stuff. All right macauley on the so. We just felt discussing how we have. Different production means gone on so when we started out our program we were still on our pot still at the beginning. So this year we've got onto our larger production used that sixteen inch column. So we're just being able to tap into more barrels at this point so right now we're running around three hundred fifty barrels for our barrel pick program but per year per year that might in twenty twenty two. That's going to increase because we're going to be on our larger call so we're have more juice that we can tap in but we're still gonna keep it around that forty-five-year-old mark because Last year we didn't offer any weeded bourbon for example because we we had our six year old released. So when i'm hitting those barrels for the barrel pick program at a barrel that takes away from eight-year-old that's one less burrow for six year old program. So it's kind of like come on chain and give it up well exactly so and it's always having to deal with those requests like i got a charity group. I've got a friend that wants something special like so trying to take all those things into consideration and keep the the big game pitcher as the northstar objective is difficult to do. Because i am also yes man. I would like to make everyone happy. Give her whatever. let's drink. Whiskey have good time do some business. But there are large contracts. So that too we do have to figure out case allocation it is the way we do our allocation. It's gonna be based off sales across our core skew. So our small batch of hiram urban are single barrel bottle and bomb weeded bourbon and then that cast strength railways. and that's kind how we spread it around and it is what it is. I just can't pull more aged whiskey out of a barrel and that's one thing that people on the other side of the phone don't realize is when they're calling me. We're getting backed up on sample requests. Well i only have a window of barrels. That are now four years old just because you saw the news the other day or read an article. It says we have one hundred thousand barrels. It doesn't mean you're not hundred thousand barrels that you want to pick right now. Most of those are super green. Still if you will so being able to just get into that Bright now. We're starting to trick watt of our different warehouses as well to last year. Most of our product was in aids. The small warehouse are two thousand barrel recounts. Now we're start pulling some items that of be which sixteen thousand barrel recalls and then next few years will get into those larger rick houses while too so being able to play around with rick position location and things like that is something. I look forward to As we start developing more of these age spirits very cool isn't global question that you brought up in. I wanna pose. It's y'all because i'm sure that you get requests all the time whether their private barrel groups like like us and we're like hey can we get in like though i wanna get better. We need one for you know. And they're like oh you know. We're doing a fundraiser for this children's hospital like how do you deal with that. Like how do you deal. And try to figure out like it's hard to play favoritism and then you've also got your allocations to stores that are based on sales the talk about like the internal turmoil that you have to face to try to figure out like who gets berlin in analysis. Yeah i'm not gonna lie. Usually i Imagine come down that. I may pass on to someone else like someone higher up like. I need you to make this decision but no you know it just. It's a darn good question I think a lot taking the. I mean a lotta times on those situations. When it's an extra group like that from razors. We just pour next year barrel for the for the year. We'll we'll find an extra barrel just to give him. Now you're gonna get all these calls fund raiser showing. I got a new charity. Go one just started exactly foot I think you know with that. You know just depends a lot on reps which. I don't think a lot of people realize like your you work hand in hand with your reps in every state and things like that and you just gotta make sure it's a good fit And i hate saying no. I really do. It's one of the hardest things and we really do like do everything we possibly can to try to see if we can't fit it in but sometimes she's gotta give them the big. No but you put him on a waiting list like we still stay in contact with that. Being said always make sure. I know forever. Yeah i try to reach out to at least one Once a month just to check in with them make sure like hey can keep up to date on where we are with the program and everything too.

"So i did an internship in the lab with them for about six months before they ended up hiring me to be a distillery operator at that point Handled that job for around six months before. I think i got tricked into this position. Being the Bottling manager when we started bottling But so bottling and shipping receiving manager so hand labeling That was an hand. Bottling is not a fun task and tedious. Things have changed a lot since then but after that. Got into the visitor's center operations and then one day we started a side. We were gonna kick off our barrel pick program and then started that out with doing a katy a barrel pick for the bourbon affair. So we had all the master distillers in there Laid out really good spread and it was next level for them. They just been in rick houses all day. Spit on the ground. And when you come in have a nice setup nice crystal and charcuterie and things like that Go impression on that so Got phone call. 'alliance came called was like asking me for some pointers on c. Had to do pick. So i knew i had made it at that point. We got out young giving you give a phone call to figure out what that was that was. That's when i knew. I had the hat and the feather right there. So we've been kind of just more from that program grow in that getting it into different markets and kind of try to man the ship this point. It's it's been a spaceship brad to the top right now. I mean we started out just in two states distribution a few years ago. Now we're in thirty three different markets and get into the international market as well too so sky's limit on that. And i'm just interested to see where i am a few more years at the position. Now we do a little bit more quality control so tasting barrels kind of getting on on that side a little bit more so the roles have been defining itself a little bit Moore's goes there. Wasn't anyone before there. So i was able to go in kind of protocols really developed some a program that i wanted to do because i did a lot of corporate espionage as well to see got shopper. Yes i did little corporate espionage. This morning as i was telling you guys too but it's it's good to go out and see what everyone else is doing. Barrel pigs kind of what they're offering knowing what's out there. I always had this misnomer of with kentucky and distilleries that we always kind of have their reception of everything being a little bit more rugged. But i think we're getting past that we're starting to find spirits a little bit better and we're having more educated consumers and people were just dial on into things a little bit more so being able to know what's out there and being able to take that back and fine tune your program a little bit more too so it's nice being all doing that. So that's my that's your inter- yeah. That's a good pitch so john will move over to you now so kind of same question kinda talk about you know how you got into whisky how you got peerless and into this position and you know more about the program crazy. I always tell people just right place right. Tom like just so many variables that led up to even be in there at peerless Sorry came from like a bartending background. And i met kayla are master distiller through a mutual friend and we started doing just like game nights cocktail nights. I come over make drinks. We eat and stuff like that and You know Tom is working with animals. Like you know bartending. Working with animals enjoyed that stuff and he approached me and was like hey. I think you'd be really good here. And this is like the beginning phase like we didn't have any product out or anything and he brought me on. He's like if you don't like it. No hard feelings. And i never left after the first day like i kept coming back every day every day and it was about three months into it They followed like come work for us. Full time Started working there. Started off Learning the mashing like adding the grains water yeast all that kinda stuff From there Distilling which is crazy like just learning are still process and programming. Considering that i'm sitting here with the master distiller that program code and design this whole system here so it's like you know. Listen to somebody talk about their baby. so great hands on experience and then product became of age. We were new. There was only like twenty employees there and it was one of those days where we started pulling barrels down and taste them and i remember walking to the lab is caleb. Our master distiller. Nick cle- one or other distillers and i just asked to sit down tastes with you all and they were like yeah pope to see like we need all hands on deck and I just tell people i guess. I have good pallet. Because caleb said hey come back here tomorrow we need you to come back and taste and then had a barrel program coming about. People are asking about single barrels. And i guess. I showed the most excitement about it like i was like. Can i help. Select these like i want to do this. And at first. Caleb started off with it and I'd set up everything form. Have everything laid out by the groups. Come in and I think about two weeks into the program. He approached me again and said hey i think we want to let you run this program and ever since then i've just been You know leading up to program and as he was kind of saying macaulay It's so nice. It's so hinge on at a craft distillery. So you know our program you know we have like we taste every single barrel that goes into it Because from barrels become of age. We're not just looking for single bureaus we're for small batch once the whole bag so it's really so hands on from beginning to end. I mean we're hand selecting curing these barrels that we put in. So we're making sure that we put I believe she said the east drake like just the best the best barrels we can possibly put in there and from there then on we still curate like when it becomes selection days You know myself Nucle- are there still. Are we sit down. We taste them. Hand select the barrels. We put in the program because not only do. We want them to be different. We want them to be just different from each other. We want to show off a little bit of that range that we have within our causses and yeah it's been great. I being able to kind of shape. The program in kind of lead from there and set the standards And speaking about young young came down the peerless day. Like you said that's when you knew like when you're like all right we must be doing something right when al young's down there hanging out asking about your program that's very cool so talk about Hold on before you get there. There's the question i want to pose you. What were you doing animals Working or question. We're going with exotic animals like a vet tech. You know And we also had like a dog boarding place like doggy daycare and stuff like that there. i just really enjoy working with the animals is just so rewarding. It really was They don't give a shit. But i'll be. I'll be honest. it's hard to make a living off. You don't get paid much in that field. So that's why i was doing bartending. So i'm born and raised here in louisville kentucky Always had a passion for a member sneaking into my mom's liquor cabinet and drinking whiskey and bourbon at such a young age It's okay you're not. You're.

Don who writes me on fred. Minic dot com okay. I'd be lying to you. If i didn't say i wanted to be the above the char question. I'll ride george here you go. You're you're here on above the jar. What is your dental routine before competition tasting. Wow i've been asked a lot of things george. I don't think anyone's ever asked me about my dental routine First of all this is actually a great question early on in my career. I was around a lot of a master somali as and a lot of people who were in like wine tasting competitions and they would always tell me to not brush your teeth before a major tasting To don't eat any onions or things like that. And i remember weighing my my dental Prowess over my palate. And i would go through times of not. You know brushing my teeth and i would taste and i was like i felt like mike tastings were actually off when i didn't brush my teeth. And here's why there's a film you know there's like a gunk. There's a a grossness to your mouth when you don't brush your teeth daily or floss or use mouthwash now so you have a layer of like crap on there. I can't give you like the scientific terminology here. I can just give you that like when i don't brush my teeth. I got me some dragon brad. So i'm trying to prevent Dragon breath tasting scenario so Yeah i do brush my teeth. I use mouthwash i've lost. I mean i don't wanna be tasty and have last night stake hanging up in there. And the on the top half the decaying out and creating flavors on my palate and i just don't want that so what i have found over years of experimentation. Is that if. I don't take care of my proper enough. I don't take care of my teeth if i don't go through that process Then it will have a huge impact on my tasting for the negative. So i have no issues of whatsoever with brushing my teeth going through my daily stuff. What i've learned is when you try to change something then you screw your palate up and that's just my take Every taster is different. And you know when. I am doing competitions or be people who won't brush their teeth. Am i talking to them in close proximity absolutely not. But that's gonna do it for this week's above the char. Hey if you want to know about any my grooming techniques before tasting be like george. Hit me up fred. Mimic dot com. That's fred mimic dot com. And maybe you will be read on the next episode of bourbon pursuit. But that's do it out there. Everybody be safe out. There cheers back to burma pursuit. The official podcast of urban kenyan here today talking about one of the most favoured subjects that we get to talk about on this show and that is private barrel selections. We've got our own private barrel selection program we've done almost over a hundred of them now and it never gets old. That's the point is not. It's i mean it's the tours geld but not the barrel. There's nothing wrong with tasting more and more whiskey and so we're going to be joined here by two guys today that are gonna kinda give us an insight into more of the the nuances that you see behind the scenes of a barrel selection program. We've talked about barrel selection ryan you talked about being unicorns all time. Yeah i mean everybody used to get geeked out over a limited editions which is fine. But you know the true unicorns me are single barrel selections. It's y- you're getting your own. Pick your own peril and it's something you know. The perfect thing about bourbon is like with a single girl selection. It's never going to be replicated. You're never going to have the same. Would you're never going to have the same climate that you know that barrel experience for the forwarded however long it's been and so it's a truly unique barrel for for you or your grouper. Whoever is foreign. It's always special. On like i said they never get old. They're so much fun. And we talked about the experience a lot but we never talk about the actual people behind it and what they have to go to show up all right. Where's the whisky guys. But you know there's there's a lot of stuff that happens behind the scenes of actually going through taste testing and make sure these barrels fit the program and ling coordinated all these you know. I thought her cat if i was good at excel spreadsheets. Guys are probably masters at it. So there's all kinds of stuff they gotta deal with crap like that so let's go ahead and introduce our guest for today so today on the show. We have macaulay mitten. He calls himself the barrel guru over wilderness trail distillery and we have john way del he is the single barrel program curator over. Peerless guys welcome to the show. Thanks for having us. Yes thank you. So thanks for bringing whiskey. Yeah absolutely got it. We always unless we have single barrels with us ear ends a good. Peerless distilling We got an absence finish here. So it's getting crazy here now. Let's go ahead and we'll rammer station. Might get weird absently. Guitar have seen cake to. Yes dash that in. Yeah we need to look into that. So i want to talk a little bit more about Each one of your programs macauley kind start with you first You know kind of give us an idea of like. How did you get into you. Know the whiskey and bourbon side of it. How'd you get into the single barrel side in kinda talk a little bit more about the program too. I guess we'll give you a little bit about my background. When i was in college. I decided i didn't want to go to law school on to pursue get into bastard. Brewing is in at that time actually went to wilderness trail on a field trip in college and got to meet dr heist and see the lab firm solutions. And kinda put the together. If i could get in there on noah fermentation know-how yeast works a little bit better and do quality control. I could get a job. Landed anywhere..

Which one though the yeah like. Why are you need to just like. I need to make sure that person behind me knows this information about me. I don't yeah i don't. I'm not a fan of swear. I don't care if people swear but like it bothers me. People like shirt. That's just like off. Whatever something incredibly unclever it's like. What did we book kid shirts. Pretty funny that is actually. I was just picturing k. Coochie walking around and that does make finding the right person. Yeah yes that would be. Incredible in makuuchi. Still look as young as i remember looking. Yes she does yes. She's she's small and young looking kind of answer those. You're get no no. She looks so old like literally overnight. Eight fifteen years. It's scary looks fifty honestly. Although i do have to say almost everyone i know thinks they look younger than they look. Yeah don't you think everyone thinks they look a few years younger than and nobody does. Not like i feel like i did for a long time and i've lost that and it's it's been something that's very noticeable to me and photos now. 'cause i'm like what the how old face on my as if you don't really know somebody okay and then you see the always look the age they are but it's like with macaulay culkin when you knew them as a kid they still kinda look like a kid. It's weird you can never see them or ricky schroder. Who's like a nightmare person right now but you look at and you're still like like you're your he. There's something about knowing what the face looked like when it was young. That keeps you from seeing it. Mainly as it is that makes sense. I just have a lot of actresses and none of them think they can play their age all play their age. I don't look thirty five. And i'm like no you're forty two forty two. They look good. It's not a bad thing. I just don't think it's bad to look your age. Yeah everybody i think i. I've i've been a little bit self conscious lately about my looks. Just a all talk about it. And the plug thing this book coming out too sexy into the only time i stopped having sex is the record podcast or read the or read the rules right Anyway i've had to like give people publicity photos for stuff and i don't. I don't think. I look good at any of them kind of got one recently that i kind of like but i i i don't like them. I'm kind of like okay. I have to send something small suddenness. So i've been kind of self conscious about my looks but the other day i was in a panera bathroom and i looked great in the narrow bathroom mirror. I'm like why do i look so good. In this lighting get married. I wanna have my wedding photos back with outfit changes. I joke. You should go back with a couple different outfits. go to the bathroom. Get all the photos that you need for a while. I should be kind of wondering like where are you like. Don't worry about it someplace. Disodium.

ABC news and NBC TV in his writing has shown up in Forbes entrepreneur, success and other publications. Chris has customers like Cisco Hewlett Packard, Salesforce. The navy seals and many more. Here's something really interesting. Everything's been interesting up till then, but here's even more interesting. Chris Westfall has coached business billers onto shark tank dragons den in Canada and sharp. Shark tank Australia, and he's written a great book. The title of that book is leadership. Language to subtitle is using authentic communication to drive results. Chris again, welcome to the business builders show. Thank you, Marty, it's a pleasure to be here. Okay, so fundamental question, but it's always an important one. Who are you trying to help? What's this book? Again, leadership languages, the title. Maybe you needed help yourself. Maybe that's part of it or maybe you're experiencing something with clients so me, who do you who do you want to help with the book? Well, I think books always come from the author's experience, and certainly that's where this book started, but the objective is to reach out to two types of people. One actual leaders, people who are owners, entrepreneurs executives who have responsibilities for a team for an entire organization in many cases. And then the second group is aspirational leaders. Folks who may be aren't in the c. suite or haven't launched their business yet, but they know that it's on the agenda and it's something that they they want from themselves. So for for folks who look at their career, their life and look at business and say, I want to build something that's not here yet. That's that's really who this book is four. Interesting. I'm going to use a phrase. I'm going to mention a phrase that you mentioned throughout the book. I saw it as a theme now that's me saying that not you folks. You've said you said several times throughout the book you are never more than one thought away from innovation. Let me repeat that folks. You are never more than one thought away from innovation. So I want you to keep that in your head folks as you're listening to Chris talk because that kind of catch me kept me on the edge of my seat. Okay. So we have actual leaders who are doing big companies, small companies, everyone in in between and those who want to be leaders. You also. Kind of make a differentiation. I guess I'm going to ask it this way. So you talk about clients, but you also say clients can also be, you know, folks who you may be leading in the boy scout group. It could be someone it could be your own family. So is that true to or your thinking in terms of defining clients? Is that also part of your thought process when you wrote the book? Well, when you think about clients or another way, in other way to define client will be to say customer, and for me a customer isn't someone that you sell something to a customer is someone that you serve, and that's

"It's recess and all out of episodes of nailed it. So now I'm watching sugar rush on net flex. It's pretty good. If you like to watch people do something, they're actually good at as opposed to a hilarious parade of failure sugar Russia's, a cupcake car show and nailed it is like a monster truck rally. I just referred to watch an orgy of pastry destruction. Speaking of violent release, it's time for the entertainment news or as I like to call it your recess from the real news. Here we go rapper and Pulitzer prize winner. Kendrick Lamar will make his acting debut in the stars series. Power opposite fifty cent. Kendrick, Lamar rapper turned actor will Kendrick be the next Queen Latifah. The answer is absolutely not no only Queen Latifah, Queen Latifah, that question was a trap. A Frazier reboot might be in the works at CBS. I would love this not just because I loved the original Frazier, which I did because I love a family. Comedy centered around a man with a giant head, but also because Frazier would be an interesting character to catch up with in present day circumstances. What would Frazier be doing in two thousand eighteen? Probably trying too hard to be woke and drinking sharee before, watching the news every night. So basically the same thing as the rest of us, Sherry Niles. Ooh, bring back Niles speaking of rebe. Boots, Ryan Reynolds is rebooting home alone. Sorta the new film will be called stoned alone. And instead of a precocious young MacAulay Culkin being left behind during his family's trip to Paris, the movie will follow a twenty something we'd grower who misses the plane for his holiday ski trip and then has to fend off burglars will one of the burglars be Joe patchy, probably not, but I'm betting there will still be a scene where the protagonist orders pizza because that's one thing, eight year olds and stones have very much in common. Thank you for your service. Pizza delivery. YouTube has deleted certain videos posted by info wars, the bananas, Alex Jones channel that deals and conspiracy theories such as the sandy hook, shooting being a hoax. Eaten all the grandparents who still use Facebook regularly, warn your grandparents and then tell them that if they want to see your pictures, they really have to join Instagram. The HBO series, dead wood is getting a movie. The show aired from two thousand four to two thousand six. It was a western crime drama and its fans were very intense. So intense that after several months of being told that I absolutely had to watch dead wood. I decided on my own in a totally non reactionary way that I would never ever watch deadwood. But I do look forward to being told to watch this movie, people recommend because they care recommendations are the sixth love language. If you've never read the book, the five love languages are quality time giving gifts acts of service something to do with words, and then physical touch, which is the one I always try to explain to my dog when it's hot outside, and she doesn't want to cuddle with me.
