"Suit to go back to our budget analogy. I'm just gonna throw numbers out there. I'm going gonna get into a little bit of logistics but not not too deep so when we talk about macro that simply stands for macronutrients if you look at the nutrition label on any food. There's tons of information three of those pieces of information or your carbs. Your carbohydrates your fat and your protein carbs fat and protein are your macronutrients there three nutrients of which you need the most. That's why they're called macronutrients. We call them macara's so let's say i figure out your personal macro-plan and again i'm just making up these numbers so i don't suggest to use them and your says you're going to eat eighty grams of protein hundred fifty grams of carbs. Sixty grams of fat everyday. So you wake up tomorrow. And you're like i need a doughnut in my life right now like this day is not going to happen if it doesn't start with the donut so you eat the donut and you plug it into your app. Because you've put your goals into your free appliqued. My fitness pal. That app is going to automatically pull out. However many grams of carbs and fat were in that donut. Because unfortunately there's no protein in doughnuts and it's gonna show you what you have left for the day and this goes back to our financial budget. Everything you have left of your personal numbers is yours to spend so you didn't cheat with that. Don't you didn't break your diet. you chose to quote unquote spend a bunch of your carbs. Fat on donut. And you're going to be a little stingier with your mackerels the rest of the day and this is true. I use donuts. Because i love them. But if you're going out to dinner you a lot of people when they're on a diet they're afraid to go out to eat. Yeah what i do. When i go out to eat is i plug out. I plug in whatever many eat in the morning so that it's already spent the rest of my data just budget accordingly so a burger and fries is no longer a cheap meal. I'm just going to budget the rest of my day around it and again when we do this. There's no more cheating binging splurging. There's no more good foods bad foods again. We can talk about nutritious nutritious but we get out of these labels we get out of these cannon can't and we're literally hitting our weight loss goals wall eating donuts pizza pasta burgers love that i love that because now you don't have to go out and have to sit at the table with your friends and say yeah. I'm on a diet. I'm going to have a salad. You don't have nobody. One-lane item declawed solid at home. That's great but wants to do that. When you go to this amazing pasta restaurant you know or anything like that house. So beautiful thing is that it works for every lifestyle. So if you're a vegan of your vegetarian if you're gluten free if.

Jumping Into Markdown

"Many Stephen Hackett, and I, have joined is always of my co-host and friend Mr David sparkes. Hello. Steven. How are you? Today? I'm good. How are you? I am ready to talk about markdown. We're touching the third rail here. The podcasting Faux Pas, we're going to talk about a little bit about coating on an audio podcast. I, think mark down the big exception. As we get into this. The whole idea is that it's really simple and so I think we can talk to this syntax and be just fine. Yeah Yeah. Well, this is a good episode we're going deep on markdown today Marc out something that a lot of people are aware of, but not as many people know how to do and it is really easy get through this podcast today. Down pro. I think so too before we get into all of that just real quick it is. We are in August. Now, I don't know how that happened. But we we will be working on and planning episodes around Iowa's fourteen. Macara's Big Sur. Couple of people had had asked about those I. Think we'll do what we did last year and and have A. Episode per release win. That is nobody knows and so we we're kind of keeping an eye on apple said in their results at the phone will be later this year by a couple of weeks does that mean? In Big Sur. Later, by couple weeks to WHO knows nobody knows. So this is going to be a fun adventure all in together this year. And related questions I've had from people are what about shortcuts and the photos field guide the most of those areas got up with this new operating system I. Think I'm going to have an a free update shortcuts when they launch Iowa's where team, but the question is nobody knows when they'll launch it. So if they launch it next week, I will not have an update ready, but there will be an update eventually or hopefully on launch day for shortcuts followed by a free update photos both of those will be free last year. I had to charge for shortcuts because apple rewrote shortcuts I to do the whole thing from scratch fortunately, that's not the case this year. So I'll have some so free updates. If you've already about those field guides also today we are going to in more power users. We're GONNA talk some tech stuff stephen is getting ready to prep for the annual the podcast on and right there's a bunch of technology involved with that. So we're looking forward to talking about that more power users today. So technology and sobbing both. Both. Right now. I really this is a stranger I have a lot of questions. boy Yeah. So let's get into. It's going to mark down. Just. A touch of background markdown was created by John Gruber the writer of daring fireball. We spoke about this episode four, hundred, sixty, six AMAC power users where he was a guest talk about the history of it. He's given other interviews about the history of markdown. and. It's really cool I. Mean it is sort of the definition of writing a project to scratch an edge. You have. He wanted a tool for riding on the web that wasn't. Junkie and Messi like html is and markdown came out of that desire I. think that's pretty cool. Yeah I mean John had a blog. He was one of the first that I was aware of the did the linked posts you know where he would link something and make a few comments about it, but it also have more extensive posts. and. He wanted simple method right in. So he did He created his own tool, and who would a guest that it became such a big thing. It's everywhere and we're GonNa get to that later in the episode of just how many places you can use markdown and it shows up in some pretty surprising projects and websites across the Internet. And the idea of it really though at its at its foundational level is just something you can write with any plain text editor that at the end of the process gives you usable text for html at least that was the original idea now since then it's become so much more because now you can export as rich text and you can do all sorts of cool things with markdown but having a starting point where you can sit there with the keyboard and not have to fiddle with code snippets and make something that's usable later. That's right. So the initial pitch when Gruber announced it is that this is a tool to convert plane tech's to html for people who are riding on the web, and so if you're blogging and you need Italics were bold or links, you don't have to do that in html you can do it in mark down and then they're marginally two things. It's the syntax and there's an interpreter and you can. Get it on your website and it Lowe's html and everybody sees a regular web page. But like you said over the years it has. Shown up everywhere. It's even supported in x code now as of a couple of years ago, which is gonNA. Feel pretty good. If you're if you're John Right this product you built being blessed and put an exco that's gotta be pretty. Cool. Talking about those two pieces of let's break them down for a second because the first piece to me is almost is definitely more important than the second piece in the first piece is it's a text syntax where you can include links and rich text items without having a rich text. You know nobody in air quotes here, word processor at your disposal, and that is something that's very useful but the syntax in addition to being something that's easily convertible he also made it and I think this is the genius of markdown he made easily readable. So when you read if I put a page of html in front of anybody listening to the show next to page of mark down. It would be obvious how much easier it is to read markdown than html because h inasmuch codes and tags and other things in it that really get in the way of finding the words whereas markdown is all about the words and the very simple syntax we're gonNA teach you here shortly. embeds all that stuff for you. So you don't you don't need to worry about.

Heavy bias on that one. But when you think about that awarded like it's another one of those like inspirational ones where you pick up an organization and took the ball and ran with it the way that you can do it to be so successful and not one that is always trending on a high of success. I think something to do with the rebuild in a lot of these. award considerations, but Yeah I. I want to get it. I think Elaine Videos, the guy that's not winning this one. I think Bruce deserves it. But the person never gets credit when they just happen to be a really good coach on a really good team. That means that thing venue he's GonNa win it like he has to for what's been going on in Philly and then limbaugh you know just it's spent a year in Philadelphia and they were finally coming into their own right before everything shut down three great candidates though I can't. "Hitting my. House Ryden. It's supposed to save. Our Larson shouldn't actually built. That are by Amru it. In you mentioned about the sixties and cases how fun to sixties and how any action has steaks with sort of. Fun playful tone. I love that that it's because when you look at sci fi in any kind of reasons, love off from the sixties. Winning usually. Hide in stream whereas. And the man have do the rescue and the shooting up and all his and I love that we're taking that paradigm throwing on its head by using the sixties model, but we are ass women, you know we don't need to wait for the cavalry to say. We have our own ray guns. And James What was what? What's really cool is talking about the production design design. Andy Special Effects. Everything had like a a pseudo nineteen sixties. Almost the prisoner kind of look to it. It was I saw a lot of. A lot of influences to me seemed like we're from prisoner in this as well. So talk about that part of it because it's I. Love the style of it. It's just has its own rhythms and its own feelings that you don't see these days very off. Thank you, thank you and yeah, well. It's interesting because Macara topic wrote the play in one, thousand, nine, hundred nineteen, and although he didn't. Play most literary scholars believe that it was his attention descended exactly fifty years. which would be nineteen six not? ICED. Stage productions are in the inactivity either set play back in the twenties, a came out or said it in our future, but neither of the really work, because certain advances in technology are forming on what we have today in certain ones. You're behind what be out today. So what I wanted to do was I said, let's just take this literally said in one, thousand, nine, hundred, sixty nine, but kind of like do what they did in watchmen at already nineteen eighty we, we have an alternate nineteen, sixty nine, in which there have been certain technological advances, and not other ones, and like I, said it's perfect period. That exemplifies in American culture. I mean like in in ten years. The decade of the sixties Western culture are textured. Ashen Sexuality Civil Rights changed more than in any other period modern history. It was a bowling pot of fear and hopefulness and optimism at the same time, so it's the perfect setting to set this story, which is fun and sexy, but also about human rights so to achieve that I work with her deke Jason Coach. And our productions Jas Ford to to both locations and dressed those locations in a way that wasn't just nineteen sixty nine, but the way that people in Nineteen, sixty nine for the future would look. That was really the trick to it. Because that arbiture doesn't really exist in very many places like you said a few select places that we were able to find out how that prisoner, Barbarella, Star Trek original series kind of look to them and it was really important to just go away with that, but like hippy said took all also not go with the cheesy Damsel in distress girls framing element, so it was combining the..

"You square this PC is with a dot in and he breaks down those numbers for us from twenty seventeen to twenty eighteen we did chief, you're fatal crashes, fewer injury crashes, if you were injured, people, fewer alcohol related fatalities were unbuckled fatalities, fewer motorcycle, fatalities your spe talent. So those are all encouraging things to see the number of total fatalities did go up by one percent to one thousand ten traffic fatalities Olivera zone is roads in two thousand eighteen so we all have more work to do. We have drivers need to make better choices behind a wheel. Don't don't speed. Don't drive recklessly. Don't drive impair. Don't drive distracted, make sure you wear your seatbelt and be a courteous driver. So this is this, what I'm to make this Pamela. There were fewer overall crashes. Yes, but there were more fatalities in other words. Crashes were deadlier. Yeah. We, we actually saw traffic deaths in Arizona at a level. We haven't seen in will over a decade. So what's going on? I don't what's going on. How do you have fewer crashes? Right. But more deaths because you would think if you've got more crashes, you've got more deaths if you've got fewer crashes, you have your debts. So how, how do you square this? I'm not exactly sure. I it seems that the crashes, we are having our more severe and to leading to more def what I'm saying like an but I don't understand. Why would crashes be more severe today than they were few years ago? I don't have any statistics. But I have a theory, I'm ready to entertain a me entertaining theory. Okay. There are so much more technology and car stay than ever before. Right. And not just technology, but safety figure features you get a new car today and a lot of them just come standard with lane departure over rental car. The other day that had that. So I if you start to cross over into another landing. Breakthrough something even in your rear view. Not your rear view mirror, but your side mirrors a might have a little light that pops up if somebody's in your planning. Okay. All of these different things you could have that car that slams on the brakes. If you're going under twenty miles an hour and a kid runs out in front of you. All of these safety features technology are these safety features through technologies cutting down on the number of crashes, you would say, yes, this possibility there. But is that then giving us a false sense of security? Are we relying so much on these safety features that we are forgetting to buckle or safety belts, or we're taking more risky behaviors behind the wheel, maybe speed all more? Maybe a little more distracted driving because north Macara will let me know if I'm texting and into another lane. I don't know. But I think you could probably make it anecdotal argument about that. I just I think about we, we had a number with twenty six percent of fatal crashes involved alcohol. Okay. Alcohol issue, Franken more. Or are we just getting to the extremes? Are are the average person driving better, but the bad ones just that much worse. Are I gotta believe distracted driving plays a big role in this in some way, shape or form? An and all I could my theory. And again, I'll. Yours. Is distracted driving in the sense that people literally are not paying attention, when they're driving leading to more severe accidents because they are not bracing slamming on the brakes. They are, you know, they're hitting them with never never touching the brakes type that you see what I'm saying is it leading to more, severe impacts and or injury and death because they are so distracted that they never take evasive maneuvers. The it's not a glancing blow. It's head on saying, yeah. Probably make that argument, which means with the hands free law that has been passed in a state of era Zona in grant. We have over a year to kind of get used to that, you would expect that in the years to come these numbers would go down. But we don't know what we don't know we're going to have to keep an eye on that, and you're also gonna have to keep an eye on the road folks. Keeping up put the phone down. He's a big coast fan, and he welcomed with open arms down there. So I want to mention to that when I got back from my trip. I was catching up on all the news that I missed when I thought interesting I found this story of a big cat sighting in England. I don't know if you're familiar with these this phenomenon huge every. Out of place, giant black cats. Well, this this guy he knows that something had scratched his pet. Labrador anyone out to the garden to look and he had his flashlight out there. And he saw two large green is reflecting the glow of his last night. And he realized okay, I need to get away from the situation. He started kind of backing away making noise. Trying to look LARs all the stuff they tell you to do in these concentrations. The frightening part is this had no effect and the cat started coming towards him. Luckily, he was able to get into his house. And you know, we call the already layer they came out to check it out. And this is the really mind blowing part time, you see these videos, and they can't really kinda tell the perspective is a house cabin. Just looks really bad goods far away via th- authorities found on his property feline Popper that was five inches wide. Yeah. Unbelievable. In the course of the week three or four more sightings popped up in England. So we're we're in the midst of a big cat slap going on in England right now. See how that develops? I found this story of a big cat sighting. In england. I don't know if you're familiar with these this phenomenon. Huge every out of place giant black cats. Well, this this guy he knows that something had scratched his pet. Labrador any went out to the garden to look and he had his flashlight out there. And he saw two large green. Reflecting off the glow of flashlight and he realized okay, I need to get away from the situation. He started kind of backing away making noise. Trying to look LARs all the stuff they tell you to do in these concentrations. The frightening part is this had no effect and the cat started coming towards him. Luckily, he was able to get into his house. And you know, we call the authority layer. They came out to check it out. This is really mind blowing part time, you see these videos, and you can't really perspective is a house cabin. Just looks really bad goods far away. The authorities found on his property feline Popper that was five inches wide. Yeah. Unbelievable over the course of the week three or four more sightings popped up in England. So we're we're in the midst of a big cat slap going on in England right now be to see how that develops. I got one more for you here. That's really interesting. It's in the number two spot in the carousel. It's kind of funny as raining cats and dogs here right now a Boston. So it works perfectly. We just did the cats now gonna do the doggone demon dog photographed in England as I said, it's in the number two spot right now women in England was visiting a site known as round, hey park. And there they have a decorative castle that was built in eighteen eleven rumored to be the home override spirits wall. She was there. She took a picture, and there's this you can see the number two spot on the carousel. This very strange long. This dark blob that looks like some kind of creature and she believes that it is, you know, a folkloric demon dog known as a JiJi tr. Trash that's the name of it never heard of that people. I know me neither today. And they're and they're supposed to lurk in the individual parks in this part of England. So I thought that was pretty well. People can check that out in the number two spot and to judge for themselves if they can figure out what this lady photographs love it. We'll talk to you next week too. Stuff. Tim banal? "Few updates for you now on some stories. We've been tracking lately on the world last week. We told you about the national portrait gallery and the Tate gallery's in the UK. Both said they were done with money from the Sackler family, the Sackler zone Purdue pharma, which makes Oxycontin and critics say that side of the Sackler family is largely responsible for the opioid crisis. Well on Friday evening, the Guggenheim museum in New York City said it was following the lead of his British museums and announced it would also turn down philanthropic gifts from the Sackler family. We also reported recently about a bad sign for the road to peace on the Korean peninsula. The inter-korean liaison office was supposed to be a place for increasing dialogue between north and South Koreans the opposites close to the border between the two countries but last week Pyongyang abruptly recalled their North Korean staff from the office suggesting a backslide in negotiations. Then today the North Korean staff returned in the morning to the office as usual. It's weird. But at least they're still dialogue and in southern Africa more than a million and a half, people are reeling from cyclone. Isci. We reported on the storm and how it ripped through the region ten days ago, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Malawi all seriously impacted half of the people affected. Our children Mildred Macara is with mercy corps in Zimbabwe. She says the waters have started to recede, but the landscape is almost unrecognisable. They used to be hundreds of houses at it's now, it's such a challenge for people to even explain how it used to be on what it has become. We'll hear more from mercy cores Mildred Mkhori about the situation in Zimbabwe tomorrow.

"And consequently of or as a consequence of there being a lot of code overlap at increasing amount of app overlapped and a common code base between IOS and MAC OS, the MAC OS update that was Mojave ten point fourteen point three which was also known as for for high Sierra, they simply called it. The Sierra the security update twenty nineteen double o one and the same thing for Sierra. Most of those things were also affecting MAC OS. So all of us. You're right. The of late. You get updates on on both IRS Macara's at the same time that that's code base. That's interesting. Right. And and so the good news is web kits the same on both. Yes. And and the good news is when you fix it on one, you fix it on the other the bad news is you you're you got vulnerabilities on both. So, you know, that's not so great interesting so observation yeah. Yeah. There were some additional web. Well, so first of all all of the same ones were present. In the MAC, OS, bluetooth FaceTime, web RTC sequel light the I o kit and those effecting the Colonel and then additionally specific only to MAC OS, high Sierra, high Sierra Sierra high Sierra are there was remove a remote code execution vulnerability in the Intel graphics driver and a privilege elevation issue in the OS. Hyper visor, and then all three MAC OS versions that were patched were affected by an out of bounds flaw in the courts core that could allow an attacker to read unrestricted memory so update now and update often. And then of course, we should mention while we're here that this face time bug, which has been much in the news. You know, I mean that the headlines were all screaming with the hair on fire. As I understand it. You guys talked about on MAC break just before this podcast. It was it would be possible for someone to call someone that to us face time to call someone else then add themself to the face time group, and as a consequence of a bug in the indexing of the identities in the group management somehow that the the the recipient of the call the fate FaceTime running in the in the in the in the recipients phone would would misunderstand. The addition of. Redundant group membership to be answering and as a consequence without the recipient of the FaceTime, call answering the fo the call would be answered at their end, thus enabling the microphone and camera which is a mistake..
