"People speak on politics without really being informed right and you and you can get away with it because you have basic understanding of economy your basic understanding of social issues. And you think you can speak on it. The thought that anybody thinks they can speak on like the science behind this. That bothers me. Because it's like you know when when you say the phrase like it's not rocket surgery it's not brain surgery. It's not rocket science like you're usually admitting. Hey this is not that hard of a topic to talk about. This is like where people were yelling at. The Dude is a scientist. He just tells you the fucking facts about the disease if you don't like what he's saying fine. I know Dave thinks he's in bed with the crooks and all that shit I feel like it's just like yo I'm telling you I studied this for a living. I've done AIDS I've done I've done SARS. I've done swine flu. We're doing corona virus. Here's what's going to happen. Here's what's probably going to happen. We've done this readjusting. I think this is going to happen if we do this. Here's what's going to happen if we do that. Here's what's going to happen. He doesn't have that much of an agenda to even push i. It's like I just don't understand where people think they're smarter than a guy like that so I don't necessarily for me. Yes like for me. It's like it goes back to Marty and I actually talked about this on a the brain busting morning. Pick me up thing that I do with him. He's like why do we listen to NASA? Like why do we just trust what NASA says? Well because I don't fucking know anything about space or science and so I believe that the people who are at the top of their field are telling me the truth. I think that's the same thing here. Obviously a much different way because we're not talking about going to the moon. We're talking about a virus that we can actually see the impact of it. But it's like but but but that's the thing it's like so you you can say you've never been to the moon. But you're trusting that a scientist and somebody at NASA who knows more than you was telling you the truth they're going to be people that are listening to Dr Pouch and being like okay. You're telling me but that doesn't mean that I believe exactly what you're saying for me if somebody's smarter than me in their topic like I'm going to listen to them like I'm GonNa Listen. Jared about baseball. I'M GONNA LISTEN TO DR About this I don't know shit about it but there are plenty of people just like you guys with NASA. You're saying it never happened right. So you know Martin. Marty says a lot of weird shit but like his whole point about. I don't even know if it was him. I think it was him about how we went to the moon and then we went one time or just like we're good like why haven't we gone back if we actually went there? These are the questions that keep me up at night rocket. Some say some would say that we found. There's absolutely nothing. There's no reason to go back. Others might argue that. There's something deeper. Yeah I mean like we have way better technology now than the first time that we quote unquote went to the moon. Like I feel like that's something that we should revisit at some point Also side note a thought that I had when we were talking about Like A for corona virus. Can we can. We figure out a cure for the common cold. Like I know. It's not killing anybody but it fucking socks like there's gotta be a pill you can pop when you You when you get like a fuck in common cold that lasts seven to ten days. It's the most miserable seven to ten days. You're not going to die but you feel like you're going to die. Can we fuck in find a cure? Please apparently not rocket. That's the problem and that's why we still can't take. We can't take a pill for the hangover. Like how have we not cured hangovers yet? I thought they I thought in Japan. I thought they came up with a pill. That cures hang over here. They come up with these pills. You can buy it like Dwayne Reed but like those are basically just like a bunch of Shit that makes you think that you feel better. Like how have we not put some Brio in alcohol like pulling in the my bottle of vodka? That's not GonNa make me hung over. How have we not done that yet? No Hanover's the hangover is a necessary evil. If there was no hangover the world would spin out of control. Because you would have not true. You would drink that that. Ti question that we did last week or maybe it was. I can't remember where it was like. What would you do? Would you rather never drink in your team win? A championship always drink and never gain weight like obviously like winning. A championship is a big one. But if you can't drink to celebrate it plus like who wants to watch football for me and not have a beer or something. Easy answer no hangover. Because then you won't gain as much weight because you won't feel like Shit in the morning. Go to the gym and work out like if. I just wake up normal after a bender. I'd be drunk all the time here for the hanger here for the hangover when we don't drink. I don't drink Blake SNELL's comments that will keep it moving on C. K. Mac welded has one mission. Tomorrow that'll be a good day for some movement on those articles of impeachment however in a report by Margaret Talev and Jonathan Swan for axios. It sounds like Speaker Pelosi is not not planning to move quickly as a reminder. We're still in a form of limbo as president. Trump has been impeached but those articles of impeachment have not yet been transmitted committed to the Senate so the Senate cannot begin. It's impeachment trial reading from axios quote. A leadership aide tells axios. No Oh decision has been made and that it may be a couple of weeks before Democrats can understand the significance of new revelations about Ukraine related information nation being withheld by the White House and weather at least four. Republican senators are concerned enough to join forces with Democrats and demand. More more disclosures as part of president trump's trial and quote. Meanwhile as we discussed last week there are new emails and potentially other evidence coming out as has various court cases and investigations continue. Those could in theory anyway lead to additional articles of impeachment. The likely candidate there would would be obstruction of justice and or obstruction of Congress. But don't hold your breath reading once more from axios quote look for House and Senate Democrats to gauge sentiment in their caucuses in the coming days. Look for Democrats to lean on. Republican Senators Likely Murkowski of Alaska Susan Collins Collins of Maine Cory Gardner of Colorado Mitt Romney of Utah and Lamar Alexander of Tennessee. To Press McConnell to agree to some witnesses this is in document releases the White House is so far refusing those gop senators are either facing competitive. Reelection fights have previously the expressed concerns about trump's actions on Ukraine or are retiring in May feel freer to challenge the president. None is expected to convict Victor and quote and to add some complexity former national security adviser John Bolton has said he will appear in a Senate trial if if he is subpoenaed by the Senate while that is possible Democrats would need four Republicans to join them in making that subpoena request. It is unclear right now. Why Bolton would testify in the Senate but has still refuse to testify before the House even though he was subpoenaed remember? His rationale for avoiding the House Subpoena wasn't ongoing lawsuit which is still ongoing. All right one last thing to watch for it's Pelosi's regular Thursday press conference when she will likely face a bunch of questions. About all of this next up Senator Cory Booker has released his cue for fundraising numbers. He brought in six point six million million dollars which just barely makes this his best quarter yet. This comes despite missing the December debate and very likely missing the upcoming January debate debate. He is campaigning heavily in Iowa and although his poll numbers are quite low. He is counting on possible turnaround in that state as a reminder finder. Booker is one of the senators in this race. Who could find themselves locked into an impeachment trial or not who knows but that's a factor that might affect his ability to spend valuable time on the ground with voters in the early states now? Fundraising does not always correlate with success in the race but given given the polling numbers I mentioned up top hooker may have a very hard time hitting fifteen percent in Iowa overall. So what else have to wait. Twenty eight days as to find out. How those caucuses turn out last up? Today let's start talking about the situation. In Iran and how the Democratic presidential candidates are reacting to recap last week the US launched a drone strike that killed Iranian Major General Qassem Suleimani. I'm going to read a bit from a piece by Sarah Jones Writing For New York magazine's intelligencer quote. The Mideast is unstable in part due to the actions of the US itself after failed wars in Iraq and Afghanistan themselves only the latest entries in a decades old program of direct and bloody interference. Democratic candidates should have to explain what if anything they change about. America's posture toward the rest of the world in tweets formal statements and speeches issued in the hours after the air strike the candidates provided some unclarity about the direction they take. US foreign policy most hewed closely to the same rhetoric employed by other Democratic officials. Sulamani was responsible double for mass violence and death but trump's actions were. Ill considered or as Senator Cory Booker put during an appearance on. MSNBC this is somebody somebody who is a bad person but we also have to look at the larger strategic situation in that area and quote many of these statements by the candidates are linked linked in that piece by Jones and there is a contrast between the more moderate Democrats and those in the Progressive Wing reading again. From that article quote on Thursday night Senator Bernie Sanders called Sulamani killing an assassination and in a speech in Iowa on Friday afternoon highlighted his older opposition position to the invasion of Iraq. He didn't mention Joe Biden by name but he didn't have to. The point was clear enough as senator and then as Vice President Biden made mistakes that Sanders did not sanders is staking out. Ground is the fields most credible anti war candidate other candidates ended. Its may try to follow his example after I releasing a statement that closely resembled those of other more moderate candidates Senator Elizabeth Warren released another other on Friday. That condemned pseudomonas killing in stronger terms. She called it an assassination just as sanders did the previous night. Maybe voters will care. Maybe they won't. It's too early to tell and frankly the opinions of the electorate have no bearing on the actual importance of the issue. You the questions in front of the fields candidates are urgent. Will they stop America's endless wars or will the wars go on run away from twitter and with different consultants and think tanks in charge. Their answers will reveal something profound about the way they'd govern burn end quote. Well that is it for one more episode of the election right. Home I have been your host Chris Higgins. Because it's it's a scam and they're using this impeachment hoax for their own political gain to try and damage the Republican Party and damaged the president. But it's had the opposite effect because you've seen the polls the highest. I'm the highest. I've ever been in the pulse not even remotely true. That was president trump reacting to the first half of today's public hearings on the impeachment inquiry and just moments the second can half of those hearings will start on Capitol Hill with two more witnesses. We're going to bring those to you live but first let's bring back. CNN's Kaitlan Collins live at at the White House Caitlyn The president making a false claim there about his polls being higher than they've ever been What else is the president saying? What is the White House saying about today's testimony? Well we just got a statement from the press secretary saying that essentially quote buried among the witnesses personal opinions and conjecture about a call at the White House. Long ago released to the Public Stephanie. Grisham says both witnesses testified that the July twenty fifth transcript is accurate and nothing. President trump has done or said amounts to bribery or any other crime. Now how that is part and true where been been the National Security Council expert who handled Ukraine testified that while the name of the company that Hunter Biden out on the boardwalk was left out out of the final transcript. He said he did not believe. It was with the various intent. But this White House statement. Jake leaves out that. The pence aid called the president's call for those investigations during that that July call unusual while Benmosche said it was inappropriate and both of those officials testified that they did not know I. They single national security official. Who agreed with the hold on on that military aid now jake the president? They are somewhat restrained in his criticism of these two officials as he said essentially that he doesn't know them and hasn't had direct contact with them even now just days ago he's referred to both of them as never trumpers something. They both denied during these hearings with vitamin saying that he is not a never-trumper that he is quote. Never partisan is it Kayla with the bottom half of that quote from the from the White House press secretary they said she said that the men and Williams testified that the president. I didn't commit any crime. What what what was that? I missed let me read it to you again. She said that both witnesses testified the transcript that they released late call was ACURA and quote nothing. President trump has done or said amounts to quote bribery or any other crime. She saying that they said that. Yeah that is not what they testified talked about how they found it incredibly unusual all an inappropriate especially vin men who was saying Essentially the president calling for a foreign government to investigate his domestic political rivals was wrong and something he had not seen before they didn't they didn't say that at all Kaitlan Collins. Thanks so much appreciated. Join me now. Is Democratic Congressman Raja Christian more. The he's on the House Intelligence Committee which is holding. Today's public airings congressman. Thanks so much for joining. Let's look ahead to the witnesses. You're going to have in just a few minutes. What do you want to find out from? Kurt Volcker the former summer special envoy to Ukraine. Well I think Mr. Volcker was one of the three Amigos No Volker Sunland. Perry were basically commandeering Ukraine policy under the direction of Giuliani and the president and They were at the heart of this pressure scheme to get the Ukrainians to investigate the president's residents political rivals here in the United States. That being said you know Volker does in his deposition say things like you know Joe. Oh Biden's a man of integrity. He's not someone who should be investigated for anything. Same with the son. He also disparages the former prosecutor general. Paul who came up with all these conspiracy theories about Americans and so forth With Morrison the July twenty fifth call. And so what's very interesting is that he ran straight to the lawyers as soon as he heard the call and he also vouches for pretty much. Everything that Bill Taylor said last week. So You know it's GonNa be interesting to see what they say today but I think those points will probably come out among others. And what are you GONNA to ask. Morrison about specifically Morrison obviously obviously talked about how Gordon Son told him that he had this song. Lind told US Alinsky if they want the paid released they need need to publicly announce the investigation. John Lynch had asked Tomlin head told him Morrison that he was coordinating strategies and taking direction from President. President trump. That's right and so you have three people by the way who back up that very scenario that you talked about you have ambassador Taylor you have sunland and and of of course Morrison and I think that probably honing in on that conversation and among others. Because it's so important that is a clear linkage between aid and basically investigations as someone said the other day missiles for misinformation. And what did you make of the Republican turney on the committee. Steve Caster bringing up something that I don't think we'd we knew about before which is that. Apparently the Ukrainians were so taken with lieutenant. Colonel Vin men who we should remind people has been described even by his critics as a patriot. Who who bled for this country? The United States that he was offered a job. I don't know how seriously as defense minister. What did you think of castor asking that? Because I've heard Democrats criticize it as a question. Meant to impugn the loyalty of lieutenant colonel. He may have intended that. But I think the net effect of it was it just to me bolstered Mr Lieutenant. Colonel vins skills as a career military terry man and somebody that a lot of people looked up to Lieutenant Colonel Vin men took it as almost a comical offer. He didn't take it seriously. But out of an abundance of caution he reported it up the chain made sure that he documented it and He of course he declined a what he thought to be. An unserious areas. Offer an unserious way I think. Now what did you make of the White House issuing a tweet attacking the colonel pointing out that one of the other witnesses. We're going to hear from Tim Morrison said that he had lost faith in his judgment. That's that's completely reprehensible and unfounded. Morrison was with him for like all of two months. I don't know the exact time period but it was a very short time period. His previous supervisor was Fiona Hill Hill. And the interesting thing is that lieutenant colonel actually brought his last Performance evaluation to hearing Just because he knew that the Republicans Lukens we're going to attack him and he read the very sterling review. That Fiona Hill gave for him. So I think that his character his performance it's You know Were were Excellent and unblemished and I thought he. They didn't lay a glove on all right congressman Roger Crystal more for the. I'm told that you have to go back in. Because they're about to gavel the second part of the open yes thank you so much any moment. The two witnesses called by Republicans Kurt Volker and Timour Center GonNa Start Their public public testimony in the impeachment angry when we come back the hearings will be underway. Stay with us. Are you interested in learning how great companies grow.

"Obvious and yet it seems that there is remains Republican resistance to considering those facts. So is it a good thing. If the President provides written answers to your questions uh-huh well. It'd be a good thing if he were actually forthcoming. I unfortunately think this is a distraction. Sit Down with Muller then he never did then. He provided selective elective written answers to selective question so I think he's just trying to grasp across distract from the new cycle. Obviously we would welcome his testimony deep but I'm dubious about his intentions. carnoustie Ro Khanna. Thanks for joining us. Thank you well up next. We'll have more on the breaking news. Impeachment Inquiry House Democrats just announced a ninth witnesses to testify this week. That would be David. Holmes who overheard the European Union Ambassador Ambassador Gordon Sutherland's phone conversation with President Trump at a Ukrainian restaurant homes will testify Thursday. Let's ask our experts and our analysts about what they're expecting expecting this week and glory up. What are we going to learn? Well you talked about Mr Sunland. We're GONNA hopefully learn who was directing him on Ukraine crane policy clearly. He was the trump whisperer in this group of people he was in the meeting on May twenty third in which the president said from the Oval Office talked to Rudy. And we're going to have to hear why Mr Sunland did what he did. And the question. Everyone is asking of course. Is he going to throw the president under the bus. Or what explanation will will he give. Will he say for example that we were all just trying to figure out a way to get around rudy. Giuliani who was the person standing in the way of getting that important important aid to Ukraine. We're also going to hear from a few people who were on the original listening in on the President's July twenty fifth phone call so they will be able to tell l.. Everyone in the country what it was that they heard and whether or not they thought it was a beautiful imperfect call like the president or was he trying to please the precedent event. This was a donor paid a million dollars to become ambassador. He really wanted to be doing this. And I so so you please the boss and I just think was Sunlen. I agree with everything. Glory and Jimmy said my thing is we now have two people who have said they wall in Taylor and then homes who directly homes until Taylor to people said Gordon Sutherland called Donald Trump on July twenty six th. A call was placed a day after the other perform that they heard it and the gist of it. Was Gordon. Sunlen saying Ukraine answer. Ready to play ball. Simple question gourds Lynn. What was the nature of that phone call? Did you tell the president that Ukraine's what did you mean by play ball. I mean we know that some of is already in the past changes testimony revised and extended extended his testimony over what he told the top Ukrainian official about military aid in its ties to the investigations. But that call is new. We forget everything but that call is new as of last week we didn't know about it so now they didn't get to ask Sunlen enclosure testimony about that. Now they will. You heard row congressman. Ro Khanna say that if we don't know if he will but let's say he does hypothetically plead the fifth refuse to testify. Congressman Ro Khanna Member Oversight Committee says Congress should grant immunity in exchange for full and truthful testimony to get to the bottom of. This is one of the big questions. There is certainly a gap between what we understand. Is the current record Gorn Gorn Gordon. Someone's revised testimony anytime you've critic client has created that kind of potential legal exposure for themselves oftentimes will counsel somebody to invoke the Fifth Amendment in order to protect themselves now in that case. Congress has a choice ordinarily I congress can choose to immunize. Ordinarily Congress does not want to immunize cases in which they think thing that might hinder an eventual prosecution There's some precedent for that that essentially Congress can't immunize just for its own purposes. But in this case there's no chance that Gordon someone is actually really GonNa be prosecuted. Certainly not by a Department of Justice controlled by Attorney General Bill Bar and so really the risk that offering this immunity is going undermine an eventual future prosecution. Just isn't there. And so Congress would certainly be wise to to give them immunity and ensure that they got that full testimony. I just WanNa say for forwards Southern District of New York. We don't know what they're doing Rudy Giuliani and his friends. Lev and eager. If someone was involved in that there may be some legal jeopardy. Let me let me get Sean. Turn it away. and Go ahead Sean. Well okay I mean I think Susan Hennessy lays it out perfectly for Gordon Salim. He's got he's got a couple of options. I think that there are three key. Words that we we are likely to hear from him. I don't recall. You know he is. He is someone who knew someone who who certainly is going to be absolutely key to this. You know another thing about this. This phone phone call here. You know for the people who are around here him supposedly heard this phone call. I made this point earlier. You know he has to consider the fact that it is very likely that there were other You know foreign intelligence agencies would collected this phone call so as he considers whether or not he's GonNa be the fifth or whether you know he's going to say I don't recall whether or not he's going to be completely forthcoming in the back of his mind. He has to be thinking to himself. You know it is. It is possible that even if I say I don't recall. This still might come out at some point. That's an important point. Gloria because is a hanging over. This is what happened to Roger Stone. Only a few days ago when he was convicted on all seven counts including lying to Congress. That's right lying to Congress not a good thing and I think that Sunland has said there may have been other conversations with the president but he wasn't clear and and now we know what substance well think of sub. So don't remember that phone conversation at the restaurant. But here's the thing he may talk to. I don't I don't know how he couldn't remember it to answer your question. But he may say look. I talked to president all the time. I can't remember any conversation. That sort of was was important. Portent that popped into my head. This was yeah. We're getting the job done Blah Blah Blah. I'm dinner the dog ate my dog. It is not credible not credible the one other thing that they could press him on Moore is again in his closed. Door testimony initially said no not aware of any connection connection of military aid to investigations in the three page revised testimony. He filed he said actually on September. First I did tell a top aide a two presence Alinsky that it was my belief that these things are tied again he hasn't really been written addendum to your testimony. He's not being questioned questions in public court. So I'm with Gloria. I think it is likely he tries to finesse it but there are pieces of things that he has acknowledged knowledge that he has not been question on including that September one conversation. What prompted it? What led you to believe that military was tied? There are ways to not answer almost any question but it gets harder. When they're specific details thing about Sunland is that he was regarded as an interloper by by the State.

"The weekend and I just wanted to read to you. The operative line of what he said about colonel of Inman and he says of vitamin quote. I had concerns about lieutenant colonel. Vitamins Vince. Judgment and Fiona Hill and others had raised concerns about Alex's judgment. It obviously is a crucial witness for Democrats. Does this give you pause. No not at all. I had the opportunity to see lieutenant. Colonel Vitamin testify. The American people will have the same opportunity this week. This is a man who has served his country. Extraordinary ways A decorated military officer someone who is credible able and trustworthy who provided very very important evidence during the course of his deposition. The American people will see that. I think there has been an effort by some of my Republican colleagues Alex to attack this war hero. I think it's disgraceful. This is a man who has served his country who had the courage to come forward when he saw something that was wrong and reported it. We should remember number. Ukraine is a country that was under attack. An Act of war with the Russians military agent United States was really their lifeline and the president United States held up until really could get a promise for a meeting and promised to open a phony investigation. Call eight five five six five seven nine one zero for licensing in terms and restrictions breaking news republicans tonight shaken. That's the word in quotes by the testimony. State Department official David Holmes. Our homes worked in the United States Embassy in Ukraine and he is the one who overheard president trump's phone call with the EU ambassador. Gordon Sunland homes described the call in his under under oath. Testimony saying quote ambassador. Sunland went on to state that presidents alinsky quote loves your ass I then heard president trump. Ask so he's going GonNa do the investigation and quote Ambassador Sandler replied quote. He's GonNa do it. Adding that presidents Alinsky will do quote anything you ask him to now. That was behind closed doors. And that's the latest. We heard until tonight when Democrats have just announced moments ago. That home will be testifying publicly. And that will be on Thursday of this week back out front now former Nixon White House counsel John Dean CNN special correspondent. Jamie Gan Gallon David Urban and advisor to President Trump's twenty twenty campaign and in Washington in corporate lobbyists. Jamie let me start with you. This is your reporting. A shaken is the word that you are using of how some Republicans feel about David Holmes testimony. What exactly are you hearing so so? This is a reporting also with my colleague. Kristen Holmes and what we're hearing is according to one congressional GOP source several GOP lawmakers were quote more shaken by David Holmes testimony than that they have publicly let on that behind enclosed doors. They expressed a lot of frustration about sunland testimony in light of what David Home said. And that we're also hearing during that they're now very worried about sunland testimony. We've been told by multiple sources that he was ill fitted fitted to being a diplomat that multiple sources in the diplomatic community thought that he was in over his head and they're really worried about what is going to say on Wednesday and how far he will go. I mean look this is obviously silence. Testimony is now going to be crucial. I mean you know David Look some Republicans you heard Jamie talking about this. You know say homes has made the most convincing argument yet and and and obviously a big part of that is that he heard trump's voices that's what he testified under oath. You heard trump's voice through the phone because it was so loud. The Gordon Sunland had to take it away from his ear and he was able the very clearly here the president of the United States. So in that case it's not hearsay. That takes away that argument. How how big of a deal could homes testimony be? So let's ask what is home. What point is homes making right so hold her? This is the day after the twenty fifth. Call this is the twenty sixth. He's listening to the one one end one end of the call and he says he hears the president say so they're gonNa GonNa do the investigations. That's what that's what he's alleged. Testimony is so. I'm not quite sure what whatsoever shattering about that. That's been reported. You Know He. He heard it in in a cafe is okay. Let's assume that hearing was correct. I still don't see what's groundbreaking about that or is the cost of all this breathless reported. So so you know. Just make the simple point. I don't know David What you've been saying. But many Republicans have been saying it's hearsay. No one had heard the United States. Say It's so homes. Obviously if indeed he heard heard what he says he heard It's no longer say. That's the president of the United States. So John On that point for Gordon but Gordon Song says too. Doesn't he gordon. While Gordon Silent is going I want to ask ask you about that. Because he is going to testify publicly and he's obviously changed his testimony. Originally there was no quid pro quo and and then there was John There's in-home testimony And again this is the part that's been publicly released because we did get the opening statement. He said quote I asked him buster Sunland if it was true that the president did not give a blank about Ukraine ambassador sunland inland degree that the president did not give a blank about Ukraine. I asked why not ambassador. sunlen stated the president only cares about quote big stuff. I noted that there was quote. Big stuff going on in Ukraine rain like a war with Russia and ambassador Sunland reply but he meant quote big stuff that benefits the president like the quote Biden investigation. That Mr Giuliani Liane was pushing So poems is not going to testify to this publicly. How significant do you think that will be John but this is going to be public that we can hear it not just read it? I think there are a couple.

"But I don't think it matters so much in this particular instance as it doesn't a broader sense of of the sort of drip drip of him reacting in the in the sort of bombastic way to everything at the impeachment goes on. He only make things worse for himself look tweets but this is the other side of it having been someone who was called in to testify in the Whitewater in front of Ken Starr. It's terrifying. It's personally terrifying. They're your questioning your integrity there in questioning. I mean that's how it feels like in front of Congress even worse you're paying your own legal bill so to your point Jake. These are people who at their own so at some risk to themselves decide to. I'm going to serve my country in this way and now they're paying legal bills. There are being attacked but I can imagine the Bill Clinton would have attacked people who had to go in and testify. I mean there was none of that and so it just completely just for these people to then have to deal with that and then go back to work and let's be honest secretary Pompeii or not. They're supportive speed this speaking of Pompeii. Oh take a listen to the secretary asked today agreed with President Trump's tweets attacking the former. US Ambassador Ukraine Maria von. Ah that here's pompey's answer. I'll defer to the White House about a particular statements in the like. I don't have have anything else to say about the Democrats impeachment proceedings so not exactly standing up for his own people. And that's why what we saw from the vice president's office was kind of part of the pattern here and as Karen is pointing out Democrats raise this question of witness intimidation with how the president has treated mattress Jennifer Williams but other witnesses. We saw Adam Schiff do that kind. Kind of in live motion during Maria. Vich is Testimony so look there are no republicans are no White House. Officials who I think are happy with the president doing this. But that doesn't mean that they're publicly condemning it either. No they're demonstrating fealty as we're used to now. CNN gets an inside look at the Ukrainian restaurant where that phone call between ambassador. Gordon Sunlen and president trump was was overheard plus house lawmakers investigating whether president trump lied in a separate investigation. About what that's next with us. Nine hundred zero for licensing terms and restrictions in our politics lead. The House is now investigating whether president trump lied the special counsel Robert. Muller Trump told Muller in written statements that he did not recall discussing wikileaks with Roger Stone but during stones trial last this week in which he was found guilty former trump campaign deputy chair rick gates testified that in the middle of the two thousand sixteen campaign trump and stone talked about information coming soon that it could help trump's campaign at the same time stone was trying to get details but what was coming from wikileaks joining me. Now is Democratic Congressman Joaquin Castro of Texas. He's on the House Intelligence Committee which is a force leading the impeachment investigation congressman. Thanks for joining us. Have you seen any conclusive proof. That president trump lied the special counsel. Robert Muller about this I mean. He said he didn't recall which is kind of a lawyer trick for not answering the question. Yeah well as you remember Jake. The president refused to go in front of and give live testimony to special counsel Bob Muller and instead submitted written answers to certain questions in those questions oftentimes he would say that he didn't recall so you you know of course my mind has been wrapped up in this latest impeachment inquiry but I have to go back and check his responses to see whether he was truthful truthful or not about that. The White House aside a Department of Justice policy that sitting president cannot be indicted so if Democrats conclude the president trump did lie to muller or I guess that would be added to the impeachment proceedings. I gas or or or to the articles of impeachment but not necessarily any legal action would be taken you wouldn't ask DOJ to intervene. Yeah that's that's a great issue that we're going to have to take up and figure out whether in fact we believe the president did lie and certainly if he did there should be consequences for that and you know we'll have to consider it in the articles so you're going to get a question. All of the witnesses this week. Eight of them in three days much of the focus. Obviously John Bassett or Gordon. Sunland who other witnesses say claim to be taking direction from the president directly and that he told the Ukrainians Directly Sunland to announce the Biden investigations investigations. If they wanted that aid to go through. What are you planning to ask sunlen about this week? Yeah that's right now. Each of the witnesses the ones that we've heard in the skiff and then the ones that the American people have been able to hear from have a firm. This idea that there was something wrong with the president asking for apolitical favor. ABOR in trying to trade government resources for that favor but ambassador Sunlen is a key witness. He had obviously direct contact with the president of the United States about this and so in terms of what we want to know. We want to know what orders president trump gave him to ask for the investigation of the Biden's and why it looked like they were trading of government resources for a political favor to take out a primary rival in the two thousand twenty elections are all witnesses including Gordon Sodden expected to show up and testify as opposed to blowing off the hearings or pleading the fifth. Yeah so so far. I know that's the case We certainly hope that everybody will step. Step forward and cooperate and again I think you see each of them is one piece of the puzzle. Here the president is also tried to block other people from testifying people like John Bolton have refused to come forward rick. Perry has refused to come forward Mick Mulvaney but even with the evidence that we have as you can see from the polling and the surveys. The American people are convinced that the president has done something wrong and the the poll I saw today said that fifty one percent of Americans believe that the president should be impeached but that he should be removed from office. And there's more evidence to come one of the witnesses at the this week is Jennifer William She's a State Department employee employees and an aide and advisor vice president. Mike Pence President Trump tweeted quotes. Tell Jennifer Williams. Whoever that is to read both transcripts of the presidential calls and see the just this release statement from Ukraine? Then she should meet with the other. Never trumpers who I don't know and mostly never even heard of and work out a better presidential attack unquote well first of all obviously Jennifer Williams. Listen to the call. She doesn't need to read the transcript but she listened to directly but she said she found inappropriate. I guess bigger picture. Do you see that as witness intimidation nation. Yeah absolutely I mean this. is the president trying to bully people trying to scare them and he's got a huge megaphone as you know and so when when he tweets something out you're talking about tens of millions of people mostly his supporters who follow him who then jump over that person on social media some people who make threats so this can turn into a dangerous situation for witness so I absolutely believe that it's witness intimidation. Is that a possible count of impeachment. If it was up to me it certainly would be our democratic Congressman Larkin Castro Texas. Thank you so much. Good to see you sir here to see.

"Just what's going on in Austin because it is really at the center of this battle let me break it down Brooke Britain bring advance advisers fed the frenzy with a report blaming homelessness on overrated relation on too many homeless shelters and on decriminalization now here's the thing the nation's democratically controlled cities especially Austin are in fact some of the most popular places to live in visit all over the country and no Fox News Republican slander campaign is going to change people's actual experiences people love Austin this past week in a ridiculous caveat e story a local news story there in Austin a reporter tried to find a downtown tourism problem and report was going on reporter was going all over Austin a solder art trying to find tourists to say yet is cities falling apart and they couldn't find anybody here's quote from them it says while tourists that we spoke to don't seem to mind in say there are fewer homeless people here then they're own hometowns business owners still worried let me interpret what the local reports say and if you didn't know this more and more and more all the local television stations are being bought it by conservatives and they're using them as tools for propaganda they said hey we actually came here all to downtown Austin to find some tourist who would complain and they actually loved it but we hear that there's some business owners who are worried and then they went talk to business owners who also said they couldn't find the problem they were just worried about it why are they worried about a problem they cannot find because Donald trump party chairs party leaders local local conservatives are creating it it is it is a figment of their imagination. Here's the thing homelessness in Austin is a function of the high value people place in the city the rapidly increasing home values rents make it hard for people who want to be there to be housed and this is a huge part of the nation struggled to address the gap between rich and poor people want to be in Austin as they should I lived in New York people want to be here but it is it is at the point where even with a minimum wage fulltime job it is almost impossible it keeps your head above water in this city and here's what we know when politicians talk about criminalising homeless in homelessness they're talking disproportionately about people of Color while the city of Austin is now less than seven percent black homeless Austin is somewhere between a third to forty percent black on any day did did you catch that the city is less than ten percent black but his homeless population is nearly forty percent black so again when we're talking about criminalising poverty and homelessness instead of treating it and coming up with Act she will sustainable solutions they criminalize ns easy to criminalise something particularly when it's primarily people of color that are experiencing it Hugh common decency recognizes that sitting and lying down are necessary activities for human life and that non aggressive tation is actually constitutionally protected no matter what you say it is legal for someone to ask for your head nope listen I get it all the time and instead of being angry by it I have compassion even if I'm not able to help in that summit instead of thinking lock them up clear them out and send them away somewhere I see that in my heart breaks and here's the thing at the point in which these men women and children are criminalize if if you haven't basing the studies some studies show that as many as seventy five percent of America's homeless are struggling with mental illness they do not need to be sent to America's jails and prisons jails and prisons are already chewing up people and spitting them out they are horrible they do to treat and care for people with mental health problems particularly not the chronically homeless who have unique issues that need to be addressed in in play cases that were built and designed just for them and our cities all over the country are developing some of the smartest most compassion Senate homeless shelters to help people wherever they can transition from H- out of homelessness into a sustainable way of life many people that are homeless and if you had ever just had a conversation or two with someone struggling with homelessness many I'm just can't get out of it they want to desperately but our systems were really not designed to get them out now here in just a second I want to break down this issue just a little bit more and give us a few quick action steps on how we're able to how we're going to be able to back P boo in Austin but I I want to tell you about who today's episode is sponsored by this is just our second sponsor and we're proud to have them on board in today's episode of the breakdown is sponsored by my friends at Mac Weldon listen I am a simple guy and I'm a jeans and t shirt kind of dude I'm not even into name brands but I'm outta point in my life where I appreciate quality simple things for my whole life I have bought the cheapest underwear socks and t shirts that money could buy and I never gave it a second thought until I realized that you could spend just a little bit more and getty central items that are being place my very first order they're not listen they've got pants and jackets and hoodies but I just got socks in draws and t shirts and and I love them I'm wearing some of that stuff right now right away they are the best socks the best draws the best t shirts that own the website was super easy AK w. e. l. do in Mac Weldon Dot com and enter the Promo Code Break B. "So could it be someone berry had sued who wanted him and his wife dead was the some sort of retribution. The police went to work they. They always say in every investigation. Follow the money now. I'm sure that the Canadian police have done that what's come in and what's gone out but there isn't anything easy about berries finances after helping a friend post bail a lawyer Ashbury where he got the money from barrier responded. I don't Oh no my banking is very very complex. I simply instructed my staff to have the money forwarded. I tracked down the man who spent years working alongside Barre filing. All those lawsuits Shangqiu Die Schenk was the chief lawyer for Berries Company between two thousand seven and two thousand thousand twelve. I have to say Shank got the job in the first place in the most Berry Sherman Way Possible Berry was surprise surprise is filing. A Lawsuit Shank represented. The defendant and Berry lost the lawsuit. So what did he do. He actually said I want that guy to work for me. Whoever it is that guy is that just basically shut me down and I'm wondering why he doesn't and they hired a recruiter to basically we pursue me and I took about eight months. You know for recruitment process getting back to Berry Sherman's complex finances shank saw saw firsthand. All of the businesses Berry was involved in. He wasn't just the pharmaceutical side you know at. You know you name it. There are probably dozens and dozens of you know. Corporations are numbered numbered companies that had appetite says the address so he headed Byzantine corporate structure that was invested in and you know everything from gold mines restaurants and paint ball and Jews companies beer companies. I mean you name it. You know he had some investments. They're not all of them that went well and as a consequence of that people were wondering who may have done it and what was the motive it seems like an investigation with endless possibilities and the police had the public's attention shosh. Shank said I mean we have to kind of take back a little bit and that is a crime to that level of murders and everything else just doesn't exist in Canada right. I mean we kind of joke about there's thirty or forty handgun or gun fatalities across Canada in a given year and there's thirty in the first thirty minutes in Chicago right you know once the New Year start so as soon as anybody gets murdered ordered candidate that becomes a big thing then on top of that it's Burien honey Sherman right. We're talking about Canada's elite. Billionaire level of people people right and the honey was more into social circles berry was not it's still big news right because this is just you know. Berry Sherman you know being murdered murdered during law enforcement's first press conference. They clearly had a mountain of information to date close to one hundred fifty bulk doc or packaged items have been seized and are currently being reviewed and forensically analysed a total of one hundred and twenty seven witness statements have been compiled breath. This number continues to grow each day neighborhood campuses have occurred in the area surrounding the Sherman residence. This is included the collection of approximately roximately four terabytes of security video from both commercial and residential properties. There are approximately five hundred hours in each of these terabytes and finally three hundred forty eight investigative actions have been assigned and are being vigorously pursued but they didn't have everything the only surveillance cameras at the house which happened to be in the pool area hadn't been turned on in months possibly years. The Sherman's hadn't been seen since they both had left work two days prior. There were at least nine entrances into the house friends say that the Sherman's wouldn't think twice. If someone knocked knocked on the door there was also an outdoor lock box so real estate agents could let themselves in to show the house this created more unknowns said Geoffrey Robinson most murders get solved within the first seventy two hours in fact in in many police forces if the murder investigation is not solved in seventy two hours. It's dropped. It's put on ice until something else happens and the reason and why is because most people who get murdered are killed by people. They know it's a husband and wife. It's the boyfriend girlfriend. It's the neighbor. It's the you know angry business partner. Whatever so when you do a murder investigation the police come in and they immediately look at the closest the suspects and eliminate them one by one so they looked at Sherman and he looked at his business associates and they look at his family and there were problems with certain members. The Family Jeffrey is referring to carry Winter Barry's cousin Berry was of course in a lawsuit with with carry over money and after Berry's death. Kerry gave an interview to Canadian news outlet. He claimed that years ago. Berry had told him mm-hmm. He wanted his wife honey dead. Carey claimed Berry hated his wife and in December of twenty seventeen sources sources told the Toronto Star that law enforcement was probing the possibility that this was a murder suicide did bury Sherman kill his wife and then himself after all honey Sherman had marks on her face well Berry did not and although it seemed like authorities had no motive for Berry to commit murder. There was also no signs of forced entry into the house not to mention. There weren't any obvious suspects the Sherman family was outraged at the idea funeral. His son took aim at such accusations. We've had to navigate through terrifying maze of non information mation an unfounded speculation all while trying to support each other emotionally through their lawyer. The family went on to say a we are shocked and think it's irresponsible that police sources have reportedly advised the media of a theory which neither their family their friends nor their colleagues believe to be true. Family members have said that. Kerry who had also been a crack addict has had psychological problems his sister-in-law aw wrote in an affidavit. I did not approve of carries recent statements to the press attributed to his illness. The police ultimately ruled out out that this was a murder suicide. Carry a taken publications around the world for ride seemingly for just a bit of attention what people will do to get on TV. This left everyone wondering who else could have committed these murders when Jeffrey told me the following and I nearly jumped out of my crappy little desk chair it was something I hadn't thought of an hadn't read about as a real possibility but but then you have to look at something else because it wasn't only Sherman who got murdered was his wife. You see you say well. Maybe one of them was simply collateral liberal damage so if it's not Sherman maybe it's the wife maybe somebody was out to get the wife and he was in the room at the time. Jeffrey has no proof but he's keeping a wide net. I think the neglected aspect is her. Because everybody talks about him getting knocked off she she was murdered two and I think that a lot of questions have to be asked about her. It is very possible civil that she was the target and he was simply collateral damage. I go back to the idea that this was retribution. After all some of Barry's lawsuits and some of the lawsuits against him involve people accusing each other of stealing high valued secrets and formulas to new medications for example only months before his death various companies sued a former employee claiming he had plans to build a factory in Pakistan Stan using stolen drug formulations. There was another case where berries company was accused of stealing secretive material barry hit also helped L. doubt white collar criminals he'd gotten no over the years after all Barry Sherman like to help people so is there a chance this was a professional professional hit job or am I out of line. Maybe my creative side of my mind is getting carried away but if you're doing business with very very shady characters at times sometimes could there be a hit out for someone like this. Yeah you get you know lie down with dogs you catch fleas and when you do business with shady people you can expect them to act in a shady matter. Sherman had lawyers and could fight most of these things in court and most of the people he was dealing with had lawyers and can fight them in court you know big. Pharma employs lots and lots and lots of lawyers and if they had a problem with him and and they did they took him to court. That's not to say everybody does that and that's not to say that if there was a debt some place that wasn't getting paid or if he you just piss somebody off for. I don't know stealing something. We're taking advantage of something and was properly warned and didn't believe it. that's kind of what happens you. You can't fool around with bad guys. There's a reason why they're bad guys I'm walking down the men's department store looking for boxers and socks. There are a lot of options too many in fact. I'm getting getting dizzy. I look at the dude working. There just need some boxers man black boxers. I don't need patterns and logos. Just whatever you get honestly he pointed me to a general direction. He said they had like a dozen different boxer colors and other dozen with different patterns in about five different sizes. I ended up in some sort of toilet section now. I was losing breath. "Use the promo code Rica so they know sent to their that's MAC, Weldon dot com. Promo code Recode. All right. So we have all these people. Now out here who are putting together these Email newsletters and selling them for up to thirty dollars a month, you tr traditionally, when you have this profusion of channels, someone eventually comes along and tries to sell a bundle. Is that going to happen with a system like this? I think that's probably eventually going to happen, right. I mean, you know the the first stage of this is kind of a Degray Gatien, right? It's saying I don't want to subscribe to one big combined thing. I want to subscribe to this one person that I really care about, and that's the sort of level of brand that I care about. But you know, at some point in a future world when we're super successful and lots of people have this problem with like, oh man, I don't want to subscribe to my ninth five dollars a month, Email newsletter like this is starting to add up to a lot of money which there's like ten people that have that problem today, and writers tend to be tend to be with them. But eventually, you know, if as we as we sort of predict this model becomes more unpopular, eventually you'll get to this world where bundle economics just. Are incontrovertible right? Like you can't. It won't make sense to not have some sort of bundling and the way that I we're so far away from having to worry about that, like we have somebody freedoms to solve before that even becomes we have the right to sort of have that problem. But the thing that excites me about when we get there is the idea of doing it kind of bottom up rather than top down. So instead of saying, we're going to be the net flicks for Email newsletters and we're going to sort of like force everyone to to play by our rules to give writers the tools to sort of like self federate start to form kind of like bundle alliances where they can sort of like, say, like, I'm the, I'm the writer about this, but here are the other writers that I love and that I grow cross post with, and we all support each other, and we're kind of banding together to form a bundle. It's going to be this good deal and take advantage always bundle economics like that future is very exciting to me. I would love to think more about that world is going to look like. You know what I mean? If somebody who writes a newsletter that consists almost entirely of other people's journalism in a way, I feel like I'm already. Sort of creating that Peter rating the the same people show up. I'm my newsletter time after time because there are only so many reporters on on the Facebook beats, and you know a world in which some of those other people had their own news on it. I mean my gosh, like I would love to promote those and because you know, because everything winds up being in conversation with with everything else there. Do you have other newsletters that you read and sorta swear by one hundred percent? I mean, so you know things out there that I encourage people to try. You know, probably every single listener of code media listens or reads Ben Thompson on Matt LeVine. Bloomberg, another one amazing has been doing some like career defining stuff on Elon Musk. Lately, there's a guy named JR Rafael who writes a newsletter about Android once a week, and I'm an IS person, but I just love at once a week. I get kind of deep dive into Android that lets me know how the other half lives. So that's great contact you have with the Android. G. siegler has started doing a newsletter and I've always loved MD's blogging, but he's gotten interested in in newsletters. And so now I hear from him like once a week about some subject and you know, I follow him on Twitter and I would read most of his blog post, but I would miss stuff now all just comes to my my inbox. I don't have to think about it anymore. Also, people should all start subjects by the way. Yeah, I'm trying to think that there is at least one sub stack that I know that I subscribe to. It's called famous people and it's by two months way..
