Apple users targeted by 'mysterious' malware

"At both Intel and new M one based Max called Silver Sparrow. It's been detected on almost 30,000 Max. So far, those mashable reports there's no evidence of a harmful payloads of security experts can't pinpoint the malware motives. Security firm Red Canary first discovered the Silver Sparrow and it's been spotted in 153 countries. As for how it arrives, it comes by way of an installer disguised as a legitimate application or an update. With the generic name update, ER or update It's unusual for malware to Target Max and to have to type a minute existing Intel based Max and the New Apple silicone powered and one Max is even more rare. And Apple spokesperson tells me Apple revoked the developer accounts needed to authorize installation to prevent new infections and reminded users the Mac APP store is the safest place to get MAC software, though the Apple notary Service will protect users from acquired outside the APP store Fox on Tech, Brett Larson, Fox News. New Features of Safari 14

"I thought it'd be worth while to kind of dig in because safari got a lot of changes this year. It did work to now version fourteen of safari which is something that when we wrote it out like. Oh i feel really old. I remember once the fire was brand new version fourteen. It has a lot of changes in it and what it's cool like. We said earlier apples good about supporting older. Oh in terms of software update safari is is one of those examples it will run On mohave and catalina in fact came out mid september. So you probably already been using safai fourteen for a little while. But i thought we could talk through some of the features under the hood. There's some changes of flashes. Gone of course get better performance and things like javascript. Page loading apple always talents. That know safari. Superfast senate is. When's the last time you ran flash and safari though. It's been a long long time. I'm guessing me like six years. I mean flashes. Basically gone everywhere. Yeah yeah the The thing i'm most excited about really is this idea of them. Bringing in plug ins. You know an more robust plug in architecture. Yes so the the new extensions. Api we talked about this where a company or developer has an extension available to them. They've already written for chrome or firefox or something else they can bring that in through ex code. Gotta go in the mac app store. There's a new section in the maps or now for these things but they can pour these faraway easier than they used to be able to before this developing is a far extension was like a one off the way apple did it was an unusual than it used the the tool. So that's a ra- standardized or on chrome and firefox cts From a user perspective though because the far east of Based on privacy is that you can really control. The access is extensions. Have to your data so you can allow it on specific sites or all sites. You can say you only have access to this for one day. A lots of of really nice settings to limit what these things can do because a lot of these extensions work by seeing what you're doing in your browser and of course that does have privacy implications yet it gives you that great Ecosystem plug ins without the wild west mentality of like. What did this just due to my computer. 'cause and some other browsers you really don't know The so good on that. I haven't really seen the payoff on that yet. Though i mean there are several apps that i'm or plug ins and following. That aren't there yet. But i feel like that's only a question of time. Now yeah i think so. I think it will take a while. I think those will be more successful than apple's past extension programs. But i don't think we're ever going to see the wide range of things that see in something like chrome i think a lot developers won't bother with safari but for those who do. It'll be a lot less work for them.

Data Visualization for How You Shoot

"We record except data with every picture we take. But how do we use it? If we examine our camera settings over a period of time with a specific model. We can learn a lot about how we capture. This information can help us change the look of our pictures plus assist us with buying decisions for new gear. And the best part is this exercise is both easy and cheap learn how on today's TVs photography podcast? So this is super interesting. I knew the title. Isn't that sex whenever you have data in the title unless you're a star Trek Fan is not that interesting. Okay, but this is truly interesting, and here's the project that I've been working on that. I WANNA share with you today, so I've been shooting with Fuji Film X One Hundred V, since March, in the reason for that is not the only camera shot with, but when I've gone. Gone outside. Is the camera even shooting with? Because I've been doing street photography whenever I wander outside now inside shooting with the Nikon the Olympics, you know all that kind of stuff that you have been hearing and seeing, but when I step out the door in get into an urban environment pretty much since March it's been the Fujifilm x one hundred, and I'm getting to know this camera. This is my first. X One hundred I like a lot, but I'm still learning about it and me together. So the way that I do street photography. At least the way I've done it since March Is. When I get out there, I really want to be thinking about the composition about how I hold the camera about what's in the viewfinder. You know all that kind of stuff and I'm not ask concerned with the actual settings, as I am with other types of targets for example with portrait photography. I'm really thinking about aperture lot I'm really thinking about color a lot with product photography. I'm thinking about depth of field and I'm thinking about exposure. You know so different types of photography have me focus on different things in terms of what are the priorities? So when I go out the door with the FUJIFILM x one hundred I'm really thinking composition I mean. That is my prime thing, and so as a resolve. What I've been doing is setting the camera basically on program mode, so it's on auto exposure in aperture and I've even gone so far as to using auto ISO with. Now in the beginning, I didn't really know how that would work out. And I soon found that this camera is really smart and it a great job in the way that I've been making any sort of adjustments and I'm giving away a little something here from the data. Because I didn't really realize this until I started studying the data, the way that I'm adjusting. The exposure is with exposure compensation. And I know that for a fact now because I have data to back it up so basically what I have been doing is putting it in program mode figuring out what film simulation I want that fits the mood of what I'm capturing, and then I'm just letting it fly just lay, and I have to tell you I have been. Really pleased with the results. This has been a lot of fun. Have Done Street photography in Los Angeles for our March Street photography workshop. I went to San Francisco. As you know a right before they started to open up again and did some black and white street photography there. I've done some photography in Santa Rosa. Here I go out on my bike and that way I can. Get through the police barriers, and all that kind of stuff more easily than I could with a car so I mean I've had some really interesting spots each time that I go out to shoot. I'm thinking about okay. What film simulation do I want and you know one of my after here, but the primary thing is that I need to be able to react quickly and I don't want to miss any shots. I really don't to miss any shots and to be honest with you. I have missed a very few so rolling that all up. That's a big setup for this data visualization thing because when I heard about this APP photo statistic. All one word. Ph Ot O. S. T. A. T.. I STI FOOT OF STATISTIC UP IS A two dollar ninety nine cents APP that you can get in the Mac, APP store It runs on the MAC platform. When I heard about this I go you know what I would love to analyze my work with the X. One hundred V since I've been shooting street photography with it in March and really Kinda. See what's going on in this APP is perfect. What this APP allows me to do is I can point. At a folder full of just I can point it at a capture. One Catalog I can pointed at a photos library. and. I can say you know analyze it. It will analyze the data and shots, and then it gives me all these different ways to look at that information

Apple's first ARM-based Macs may start showing up as early as next year

"About an apple rumor? How about it? Normally I'd say no but Things you quote brought this one in Mexico as a very good record at these things. Being right new note from apple analysts Mingji Kopecks. Apple will release an arm based MAC in the next twelve to eighteen months. So he's not the first to predict an arm based MAC. As a matter of fact Bloomberg's Mark Gherman also who has a very good track record reported on an early stage apple initiative to transition Max to arm back in two thousand eighteen that is reportedly codename. Kalamata Mingji quo. Says we're going to get our first device with one of these in twelve to eighteen months. The chip will reportedly built on a five nanometer process and is expected to be used and the upcoming twenty twenty flagship iphone as well. So it's going to go into the IPHONE and main Chico is saying it will also go into a laptop. The switch to arm would give apple more flexibility with hardware updates because the same way they they own the chip with iphone. They would now own it on the laptop right now. They're dependent on Intel's development pipeline. I don't think they abandoned until altogether right away. I you still need the more powerful chips than arm could deliver in in your macbook pro but That means you to have to have a system. Where Apple APPS are useful across to architecture's not just across operating systems like at Os and Mac os but across Intel and arm? So maybe I'm wrong. Maybe they'll just holy switch over to the arm the way they switched when they went from went to Intel in the first place. My guess is we'll have to hear something about this. Ww D. C. And June because Steve Trout Smith pointed out on on twitter that if this is true within twelve to eighteen months then developers need to start preparing for it now and we would expect to see some kind of transitional arrangement whether it's an St K. Or an emulator or something like that at ww to make this workable. Yeah I I if we indeed get some kind of explanation of what apple is going for here. I wonder what the developer community you know. What what the what the mood is going to be? Does that mean more work for developers is something that is you know. They're excited to have and long coming a word somewhere in between I mean it's definitely more work and that's why Steve Trout and Smith is sent you better tell us something WDC. Because I want to know how much more work right could be easy work. It can be hard work. Could be somewhere between and I wonder also if if indeed like you said. Intel processors aren't going to be just like completely abandoned and it's going to be some sort of a combination of the two across a lot of apple products. What does that look like? How does that get? How does that get Explained to the consumer. Does it? Well in the how many people care in the Mac ups store? It's easy to manage. Just tell people like okay. You're you when you submit your your APP to the MAC APP store. You have to submit an arm and a Intel version and we'll put it out in the in the right place and if you don't you'll only show up in the APP store for the proper versions right but for people who like me like to go out and download things independently. It means a lot of rogue Amoeba all these independent software. Developers are going to think harder about going into the MAC APP store or they may have to offer multiple versions like they did for a while when there were still people with older Max on Non Intel hardware. Well we'll find out soon enough. Maybe we won't hopefully we. Maybe being she quos wrong this time. It's pretty good track

"Than it is in the MAC app store. Yeah. But we both did it we scroll all the way down. And we we came up with our list. So some looking at mine and the the oldest five it's interesting. How many of these have stuck around and how many just aren't in the app store anymore? They've gone away or there's not updated anymore. But my first one was Twitter riffing, the the MAC Twitter client used it. Sure. For the app store. I don't use it anymore. But it's sitting there in my in my list, wait under the bottom. Ali the bird. Just looking at me. Yeah. I had Twitter. The the the MAC Twitter app from Witter course, that's no longer in existence. Now, let's go house also had Evernote which I don't use anymore. That was on the first count. That's that's great. The the one for me that I was sort of surprised to see was tech strangler, which is made by bare bones software, sort of the little sibling to be be at it. I don't go any more. I sorta graduated to be edit for those needs. Well, they don't even don't think even distribute text Wrangler anymore the way they do it as if you buy the license you get extra features. But I think the barebones you'll see how did that version of? That's good to of BB at it is essentially text rankled. Yeah. I downloaded one called sweat, which was a stupid up to tell you whether or not you needed to wear a jacket and also if you smash my first initial and last name together, so yeah. So maybe that meant something as a sign that I was I was being your life the kindle app, which is hilarious to me. I'm not sure I've ever opened it on any MAC, I don't have installed anymore. But I guess the thought was I could read kindle books on my laptop that never really. Out for me. But it's their down with to same thing. I'm like, let's they're absent kindle books. It's this. Well, it's cool. I guess also had a game that I totally forgotten about. But really loved called the incident. It was just platformer and you had to like jump around and not get squished by falling from the sky. It was amazing this retro art. So I ran that for a long time. Yeah. And I had one called quick cursor which allows you I believe to drop a cursor cash over remember what the app did by remember really liking it. I think what it did was allowed you to jump out of like a web service. There's somebody right now banging their dashboard. 'cause they were exactly what it'll it allows you. I think to like us BB at as a text editor from any other out. I don't know. I, you know, I'm just going to stop I found article a maximum in two thousand fifteen saying that it was dead due to sand boxing, so. Yeah. Rest in peace..

"It was buggy that the crazy thing in two thousand fifteen that I'd forgotten about until I researched for this episode that MAC app store apps began to fail to launch you launch it and with crash because apple had like an expired security certificate on their end. And it broke a bunch of apps for everybody. They they had some some rough times and that definitely didn't do anything to help the app stores reputation. Do you remember when they first opened the MAC apps store, all of the think pieces and podcast. And there were so many people that were saying, oh, this is the first step, you know, because when they released it apple said, look, you can sell your up through your website if you want or you can sell through us. If you sell through us you've got to jump through some hoops. But if you want to sell them, and you know, you can do whatever you want. But then there was a bunch of people that said, oh, this is just the first step. You know, it just wait a year two and then apples gonna shut down all those external sales. They want to force everybody through this map store, and I never really gave it much stock at the time because I thought it would just be way too disruptive. And and I didn't think they wanted to take ownership of everything on the MAC, and it never really did come true. I don't even hear that anymore. No. I I think people know that the the MAC app store is there for certain types of apps. If you want other types of apps you go elsewhere. If you want to Bill by apple you have to go there, if you want so like, a basic utility, you could go there, but there are still things this of us need that just aren't there either for business reasons, which we can which we're gonna talk about or for reasons like technical reasons. So a huge thing we have to talk about is sand boxing, which is a is a. Complicated subject, but more or less. What it does is it treats a MAC out kind of like an app where it can't have rights to everything on the system. You know, I was going to play in its own little space and maps were used to having access to everything on the disc all sorts of processes in the background and sand boxing began to cut some of those things off little things down again to make maps better behaved in more secure. But apple did it in a way that was too strict for a lot of like, well, meaning applications, right? It's it's not like transmit, which is a FTP client was removed from the Mack out store years ago. It's back now, but transit wasn't doing anything bad. It wasn't doing anything harmful. But by its nature it needed entitlements. That apple couldn't grant it. And so we saw sort of a prey developers Lee. Leaving. And we see the MAC app store. It self not really doing anything new, and it was kind of a dark time for a while. Yeah. Yeah. It was I felt like it was a good idea the map store, but apple got so aggressive and had it was so tied into this dream of we're going to have that IOS experience on the MAC that they were you know, they weren't really making something that was user friendly..

"I six icing, but it makes me happy. This year is thirty fifth anniversary of the MAC, and I said a very good time right to an article about the good old days of when it started to like, the MAC, it'll MAC never talked. I'm getting I think John kid saved another thirty five years. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I guess so I have in my garage because I have a problem. I have I have a let's see let's go through the list. I have a MAC classic. Oh, yes. I those I have in front, but I have a MAC S E. My the first my was messy, and then very soon upgraded to an SE thirty quite fascinating. Watching about happened in front of me in this office was in the two the two I thought this wasn't SE thirty until I went out and looked at it and low and behold, it's an SE, and I have I have four Elsie tues-. Oh, yes. I my Cup from his self was one of the original Elsies, and I have a Quadra something or other. Pizza box thing. And I have a let's see there. I've got an imac original Bondi blue MAC, I've say maybe personally, but I never thought they without attractive, very bulbous ugly. I know the rest of the world has fantastic design a you on the side of they were wonderful the nine hundred ninety eight at a ration- is is nice. But I think it really came into its own when it became the MAC TV, and it went from the translucent to transparent shell it was a better design, a better implementation of it. I'm afraid I liked it. When they went to the head popping one. And then the last. Two thousand two thousand three sunflower I MAC. Yes. Yeah. Yes. Does it bigger than you think? When a funny so into flesh. I was quite surprised one of those as well. Okay. Okay. Because I entrusted you count there. What else I had a load of power Macs? But I actually got rid of them a summer though. And I have a bunch of power books and old macbooks. I've caught a few powerbook's none of them working all of them wound down, you know, metal with. I got rid of my first two powerbook's. My first one was a Wall Street that I had upgraded and was running ten ten point. Oh on and you do that. If you do things carefully you can push limits on that. And actually have that work. And I built that machine. Bought it for two hundred dollars without a keyboard and without a display working. And I fixed display back light and bought a keyboard from an ibook g three which worked inside it. And so I had a white keyboard on this Wall Street black PowerBook. Then I got an a PowerBook twelve inch g four. Oh, yes. Yes. Loved Abbas machine. I think I owned an eye book g three for a week or two to ended up turning that into the twelve inch PowerBook along the way. That was a fantastic machine. And of course, it's ridiculously thick now. It's absurd now. But back then my God what a machine. Yeah. We've coming cause to the anniversary of the I Pat on. I was watching the Steve Jobs presentation the other day on the areas thing you can thin it is. And you know, it is well time I mean, it was I had half my original ipad, right next to me. I waited up until three am I went at three AM and waited until the store opened for the original ipad. I can remember buying my fest. I but account remember fest. I patch will I remember is. An baby office where because you cannot in the states couple months. I think before it came in the UK they flew on over because what can websites needed to see what. Like for an average fascinated. Yeah. I was fascinated by have small seemed I write mine I was buying it for some British people..

"Which is ten to twelve dollars per month. Depending on the phone includes apple care, which is decline of a good trick because Verizon themselves when they sell you a phone do not do this. They're selling you insurance based on one of the other insurance providers. And it's it's not as good as apple care. I'll say I hadn't even heard of. I mean in the UK head of horizon of never had horizon, visible, you know, Reisen visible is not really known to a lot of people. They just launched in may last year. And it's. It's not clear exactly what the pitches for Verizon visible. They're a bunch of MVP knows mobile virtual network operators that use these other networks like total wireless is Verizon MVP. No. But revised invisible is actually Verizon carrier brand. So it's sort of a weird thing, and I'm probably going to try and investigate it a little bit more. But I'm firmly locked into variety for now. And I know this doesn't apply to our friends in Canada, or or other places. Canada's got Rogers and bell and. A few others escaped me at this moment. Please forgive me. And it's a very sort of each country has their own little quirks about how the telcos work with stuff. Yeah. You know, I was talking to another friend of mine in the UK was telling me that he he's basically on a plan where he's pays the cell phone company pays the carrier and every year, they ask them. Hey, would you like a new phone, and he says, well, sure, I guess so and takes fresh phone without really thinking about a whole lot and sort of pays them in perpetuity. But as long as long as he can do that and everybody's happy. I guess. Exactly what you should probably be on WhatsApp will sink cold. The upgrade program says like the best to deal with that. But well, it depends on whatever they're giving him as a benefit. But I wish that the upgrade program. The only reason I didn't do the upgrade program. This time is because Verizon offered me a free iphone ten are as long as I agreed to buy a phone and and open up into digital line. Excuse me, a free iphone ten right here seemed pretty irresistible. Here's what what happened is in December. And December twenty fourth of all things I looked at Verizon's website, and they had this offer going on. Now, I had a child I set up a phone line for one of my children previously, and I had not set up a line for the second child. And so the offer made complete sense to me because it was by phone and get a free iphone ten are as long as you add an additional line of.

"Yes. I am forever. Dropping it. And always picking it up the wrong way round. But other got here here, the two things that I have for US practical advice, one by a silicone jacket for your touch remote. You're me out. A when you drop it will bounce instead of breaking and cost you eighty pounds for freshman, which is a good thing and be the way that it will cover. It will be that will cover the bulk of the bottom portion that goes in your palm and leave the touch surface exposed giving you away to oriented by feel easily kinds of thank you for saying that impound stowing as well. That was a nice touch. You're welcome. I was talking down carpet, and I must have dropped fifty times. And I'm from safer. Yeah. I'm just gonna risk it. There you go. Missing his his that is important. I think apple suffer so nicely done. Wrapping it up in cases. I don't even like putting my iphone in case. But it's so expensive. I can't not do it. So I strike a blow. I I used an iphone tennis max to fifty six gig model without a case or screen protector for a month. Was somebody else's that? Yes. Yes. It was. Living dangerously there. But surprisingly nothing happened to it. So it's it can be done. But if you were a person that we're concerned about that. Well, Verizon is one of our carriers in the US and Verizon has a carrier brand called visible and the Verizon visible carrier brand. Just now started selling iphones. They relied previously on a bring your own phone kind of scheme. But but now they're selling iphones and interesting variety than they are selling apple care. Only apple sold. Apple care is that just L. It used to be that that apple would sell. You apple care through best buy whoever else and things like that. But not for phone for iphone, specifically went through them. So visible selling point is they have a forty dollar all unlimited plan with access to Verizon's network. Data is limited to five megabits per second below which is blow at the networks capable of. And the you have access to what's called visible protect add on package for coverage of loss theft and damage.

And then the government to school at apparent if you don't have enough physical movement it actually impairs your learning as well. So I'm fascinated by the fact that we're all going this way. Well, there's there's tons of research that suggests that fitness exercise is key to maintaining that mental fitness. What about chocolate? You know, I'm not aware of chocolate and mental fitness per se. Although I am aware that if you were able to eat a staggeringly large amount of chocolate like an impossibly large amount of chocolate that that there is a small psychoactive component to it. But you sometimes just as a human you can't consume enough to actually have that happen. Okay. I was just playing a hunch. But there was something there you found it. Yes. And you saw me I could never actually of it. But challenge accepted there. Gene Munster supposed to in monster. Yes. The pundit so Jeff analyst fan list, if you please analysts. Yeah. I'm very sorry. Right. So gene monster for one is the fellow that has been for years beating the drum about one is apple going to make a television. Oh, yes. Yes. That's forgotten about him. Yes. Yes. Yeah. And so he is an analyst for Luke ventures. And he's saying that quote, we think the street has not fully factored in the repercussions of the miss in the fiscal year two thousand nine hundred estimates. Basically he's suggesting that Apple's two thousand nine hundred revenue will decline five percent year on year, which is more than the two percent. That's indicated by the Wall Street consensus. He's he's thinking that iphone shipments were flat for two thousand eighteen financial year. And that they'll sink another seventeen percent two thousand nineteen okay? Sarah. Basically, he's saying more than double what Wall Street is. Okay. Seventy years time a to be right won't be wrong. Actually, more likely forgotten missing moved onto some of the doomed Laden. Yeah. Now now he says that on a positive note apple declares record quarter in terms of per share up seven percent, thanks to a lower share count. But revenue he expects down five percent. As opposed to the two percent. Other people are predicting. He says we're revenues expected to be down. Five percent earnings are seen dipping just one percent, which he calls unprecedented Representative of resilient business. So. You know, he's saying these things that that would normally sound to be quite bad. But at the same time Santa there's sort of silver lining here in that, apple weather it. Okay. So apple isn't doomed is that what he's saying. Sort of mixed right? He thinks that the margins will be about flat that there will be a little bit of rise based to two services. But you know, the I phone is going to decline is what he's saying. So on the one hand, it's good. And it's bad. It's up. It's down it's over and it's under and he's a pundit who hasn't had the best record before. Yes. Right. Okay. I think I'd probably forget about it better. You feel knowing that? It's taking some thoughts on prices. But I am I'm going to wait to see what happens and probably forget about. It. The meantime, yes, though, I wish into that by the apple TV because I'd forgotten little bit the TV room said he was saying every year that was going to come out. I mean, it's still be nice way. "And the store wants to licensed to film, and neither person knows which of them is supposed to be paying the other for the deal. It's. It's a. Because of a quite a while. And that's that's just life. That's just real. It's I'm sure it's comedic, but but I've I've seen that. And usually it's I mean, I in practice right in practice, film, licensing and and. Film property licensing is a big big business. And so, you know, whoever's going to get to use that is going to pay at we've got quite fought on the Lyon. We could have just said much offices out, but we couldn't midway well half. Yay. Three-quarters? Yeah. Yeah. There are other things that are out though, for instance, such as our developer betas. So if you have a developer account or or like to wait for the public betas IOS twelve point to TV OS twelve point one point to watch us, five point two and Damascus beta for ten point fourteen point four so updates all around, you know, anything about what's in these. I was gonna say betas beater releases in the UK different flavors heater releases. But it's beta releases over here and it's unclear a little bit. What's going on in each of them? Now. One of the things that is speculate is inside. Them is for at least IRS there's been a weird bug that that people noticed in the past week or so where will actually it's been going back to the release of twelve where we're for some cell phones, they would lose cellular collectively completely. And we reported a story on about sprint not too long ago. And so I would imagine a fix for that would be in. Of course, read the release notes for some of the past releases via twelve there was supposed to be fixed for that as well. So hopefully, we get at this time. There. There are other features and functionality. But it's not exactly clear like I say, usually usually it's new bug fixes and small features added. It's rare that we get whole new things. But you know, if you're on the beta track in if you like to get these sorts of things now, you know, they're available. Go get him. I was on the beta track on IOT Chevy to some trouble to get off it once Mohave was released and the other day. I think I ended up finding that. I was accidentally still on it because I. Does not have been working on. And I had to resign various things in somewhere along the way ended up beta testing again. But so if I suppose anything, obviously, I'll let you now there you get well, don't let me know go ahead and file a bug track report. But from the file radars. They call them in Apple's world, this one of the things that you could do is when we were on the beat track for the phone for IOS with our iphone sixes. They install a profile on the phone. Oh, yes. Yes. And so if you check you can remove the profile, and you might find the same is true from the havi you could remove the profile from system preferences. And that would take you off the beaten track. I think it is. I mean, she wrote an article on how to do this. And I forgot Nile of C pay. No attention to myself, but knives at profile that rings it sounds. It sounds it's us. So does. Now, why would you ever leave the beats per gram ch? Ch. The stability to anything can happen. When you're testing software that has not been deemed ready for release. Yes. Or afterwards as well. But that's yes. You know?.

"You can't say I I'll have them tomorrow. No, you get here. Are your updates? And by the way, we're shutting down now. I know I was sitting again rice skilled meeting took him to a guy. Check something on his book. Just for the meeting went up to the desk sat down fifteen of us. They're big financial meeting up his notebook to tough, some rain potent figures at it was no windows is updating standby re lost four hours if a six meeting to just doing this nonsense. Yes, it's absurd. It's as if Microsoft has no respect for your time or or your situation. Right. Like that meeting. You know, it's when I presented meetings, and I used to do this quite a lot. I would have the MAC in the bag just in case. But I would want to present on an ipad and at want to do it because with an ipad. There's nothing that's going to happen. That's outside of your control. Right. The I think will just touched would that. But yes, I completely agree. Right. In theory in practice it worked out reasonably well. Most of the time I can't recall. Instance, where let me down actually, you know, you have to get the right file formats or get the right formatting or whatever keynote for ipad or fonts and stuff like that. But those kind of niggling details crop up and presentations and have been for years. But for the most part, it was reliable and it never once said going down for update. Now, see ya. Oh, no. I did. Once this is window super normally done, Pat point. I think every Papworth looks assignment it's really clunky. But I was set a precedent with bio guy went to his name. But he made her point look fantastic. I'm made such a good job. Except the moment. He turned away from the screen to say, something up Cain, the windows genuine advantage sign. This is a player license fat. And as he turned back. It went away. It was just like coding. Brilliance. Yeah. No, I. The problem with PowerPoint. And this is something that I call death by PowerPoint or death by bullet point is that everyone uses the same templates. And when you do that, they all look the same. And and apple gives you a bunch of keynote templates to try and help you differentiate. But my habit has been to put up one word or one image per side. You said this to me works for us. It's it's it's sort of. I mean, it's the zen of presentation where when you have just one thing on the screen, then people are forced to focus on what you're saying and trying to communicate as opposed to if you have bullet points up on the street, and they try and read them, you don't know if they're following along or not at least neither of us. Does thing that I'm sure we have saying of people putting up your two or three hundred words on a slide and then reading them to us. Yeah. That's death by point. And death by both point actually comes from the space shuttle challenger postmortem, the where where they found that the part of the information about the owning seals that failed due to the cold temperatures a mention of it was possibly buried like twenty four bullet points deep on a slide at China that. Yeah. That's that's the apocryphal story at any rate and. You know? So there really are are things where you're if you're trying to communicate you have to figure out what's going to help, you communicate your point. And honestly obscuring it through twenty four bullet points. You're not going to happen. This is a somewhat trivial sampling president. But I I am conscious of that. I think Papa mix actually very hard to see how you start the slide show on I was in a meeting this afternoon, and they just didn't bother they had the edited slides up in front, and they scroll through it rather than searching for the play button. Right. And so this is the thing about office and so- office has always been in the position of adding features and never taking them away. Because when you take something away there's going to be that user who was wedded to that feature and will cry bloody murder that you've taken it away from him. Joe, right? And they have tried to fix this through the interface over the years..

"So before we started recording. You're telling me about something. That's that's going to directly impact you, which is a change for Microsoft Office. Oh, I love this. I shouldn't surprise when it came promised six months ago. But as of now as this month through record, I can get office three six five on the MAC app. Still kind of to explain that. Because people tend to use my Cup store even fracture as much as the IRS up store. On office has been on IOS up still. I've seen since the stop for a considerable amount of time. So I downloaded my copies from but up until today you've got to go direct to Microsoft com and sonnet Tofas three six five and then download the MAC versions to directly. I can't remember now off see there's no way to check anymore. Whether it used to be able to download them for trial at least now in the mockup store. You can you can download them for free. You can't create anything. But you can read things I get so many PowerPoint things sent to me even though I never use PowerPoint that even that is a really nice handy thing. But of course, if you want to create something you open up any of the apps, and they will protect you into signing for three six five. I don't know the US pricing in the UK pressing I presume it's the same for. However, you pay off three six probably quite similar. Yeah. You know in was looking at Microsoft's site not too long ago, and they were doing a hundred. Forty nine dollars for a single. Download standalone version for office two thousand nineteen and then they have their monthly costs.

Sen. Rubio takes Apple to task for slow response to Adware Doctor's data harvesting

"To the other side of the aisle. We go where we find Republican Senator Marco, Rubio, asking apple, adware, doctor what's up with that. Specifically, apple insider says, Rubio wants to know why it took up as long as it did to remove the app from the MAC apps store. You may remember the story. The one that had security researcher, Patrick Wardle finding that that app was expo trading, some user data, the servers in China. He warned apple of the issue, and apple did nothing until the story. What public now Rubio wants to know what took so long. The p. says the Senator has sent a letter to apple CEO, Tim cook seeking answers and offering suggestions quoting up, lend cider apple waited until after the adware Dr story became public to address the issue, including pulling the app Rubio complained according to axios

"Yeah i i don't know what direction they're going with the ipad like it it was the it was the bare minimum they did the minimum possible amount of work and it almost feels like they didn't put in a smart connector just because they wanted to keep differentiating the ipad pro we're all soon the ipad pro is going to be upgraded later this year and they're going to pull it the home button and put face ad on it so that seems silly i don't know i have no idea what's going on like the i pat it just like they just put out another one because they wanted all the ipads to support the apple pencil except the ipad mini in which still exists that's as near as i can tell the the question for the mac is like we're assuming it's going to be an arm based processor but that's actually going to be pretty hard they went through one processor transition already back in the misty myths of time from the you know whatever it was the motorola based stuff to intel i feel like the transition from intel to arm on the mac in two thousand hundred twenty twenty is going to be a little bit rocky for existing mac apps i think that they're it it's just going to end up being like a harder shift this make well they'll be an emulation mode but it'll be really really bad and everyone is just going to port over there iowa's apps to some sort of mac style interface i don't see any other way to do it and because it's not like the there's a great like the mac app store is not a not a good not a good place to hang out i'll say but like mac apps are still good but there's so many more electron apps that's like we're all the excitement is and there's lots of reasons electron apps are bad and yeah i don't know how they pull this transition off as smoothly as i did with the transition until i think the transition would be easier than it was to intel you think so because the compilers have gotten so much better at at being able to target because any code that you're writing and c or c plus plus you wanted to run on arm and you want it to be able to.

"From my jealousy for all the people that i see which huge steam library's lawyer either games on pcs and are like i hope to wanna have esteem library but i don't wanna use steam on the map back i i as in its current state you don't wanna use that happy that that is not an i don't wanna is the applegrowing use that does i won apple too i wanna apple to make steam y'all's yes there on their own version of state matt would like there's a lot that apple could learn from the gaming industry i think dominguez even sony fez figured out how to allow somebody to buy a game on on the web and have a download to their ps4 so that sort of thing there's a lot of things like that that they could adopt even if they aren't creating their own sort of game store but i have the same not super optimistic about the mac app store i feel like having just gone through this big iowa's redesign of that app store it's still too soon i feel like that was a lot to bite off and it's hard to see refocusing on the mac app store to make it anything like the iowa this version that's why i kinda feel like maybe the easier path just is to scrap it and throw everything in with the iowa sap's i have to agree honestly i don't see i don't see apple at this point there so behind the irs ops or a just wouldn't make sense to jump on stage and say hey wor rebooting domecq ups or who's gonna believe you after all these years with a store daddy stock before two days of i a seat were talking 2014 here it's four years later and i honestly i don't believe that developers are going to give apple the benefit of doubt again with the makeup sir so why not say we're keeping the makeup surround we're giving you a was the transition period were announcing some new features for gatekeeper we are redesigning the entire send boxing engine and also we are going to launch a sink.

"That came out of add gherman article and bloomberg and we talked a little bit about it with james thompson last week and i i it it isn't clear and i do feel like it's going to be a a multipronged story it'll be they'll be developer tools potentially i think it makes a lot of sense to unify more the underlying code but this very well could be also a business combination type of programme as well where as you said there are apps that are offered either as individual purchases or maybe universal binary is combine all the way across we've already got it with iphone an ipad maybe it will add the mac as well i'm going to builds on your idea and then and i'm going to see that the apps should be under one single app store and apple is never going to do what a heavy mind but i will lobby the makeup sore became something more lakes team for mac os basically a game sore is what i want i think the the the makeup sir the makeup sorry fap all cared about gaming on the mack i could imagine some kind of new initiative but the company to see we want to make sure that people don't have to install windows or to build pcs if they want to play the latest pc games with powerful graphics and the latest ap eyes for exam right affleck vr or if i wanna play something like an of what what's a popular pc game uh john you you you're building a pc pub g pop g so let's say i wanna i wanna play pup g and i don't have a p c why do i have to build a pc these should be on the mac again this never going to happen but i i would love to see the mac up sewer rebranded as a game store so that people like me that i don't wanna touch a windows ever again in my life.

"I tunes is i'd like to have some kind of web store yeah i agree it would be perfect to just go on the web from any browser and say i went to buy these and download it on my computer or my iphone or my ipad there my tv whatever right but i honestly i don't think apple is over going to dwell at a web store the just because i don't see i don't see them thinking that a web sore is a priority because he is the reasoning i assume as if you have an iphone you go to the apps or if you have an ipad you get to the ops or if you have a rag you go to the matchups or or you go to the developers website so i would love a wept sore big but i i think that apple doesn't doesn't care about it but the idea that you bring up of combining ice him at cox's under the same store is interesting if you consider the rumor of these new initiative that apple might announce or may not announce a w deputy see in a six months of having some kind of unified framework between iu essen and the max of the developers can combine or use some of these technologies for my us from the macro have some kind of shared interface between them which is interesting is i wonder if you know maybe a couple of years from now we'll have a store where you open up page four an like saeb ulysses and you get three icons for stuff like ranson iphone runs on ipad ron's on mac and rain that could be interesting yet at avalon remi fixations from a business perspective because does he mean that you buy something once a runs everywhere or does he mean that it's the same app but it sealed separate purchases so that's a that's a question that by police gone to do this uh it'll have to answer for developers yeah that's one of the biggest questions.

"It's test flight bundles and analytics those are all things that the mac app store does not have and they were all introduced on iowa us with iowa's eight and that's one of the things that really bugs me more than anything else is to think that all right not only do mac developers not have things that were introduced with iowa sate but they don't have the store that was revamped with i was eleven either were were several generations of of refresh behind here now from iowa switches to bat they don't have bundles at all in the mac but would i'd really like to see your bundles across platforms right why shouldn't there'd be a bundle for ulysses on on the mac and iowa us for instance or bear yet whatever heck that that guy but they do have subscriptions so that is something that they do of that and they have responses to to roll release hey so how would you like the the makeup so to change if you wearing charge what's the first thing a you would do to the makeup sir i i think i would burn the current mack upstream outer island all right that's uh that's a strategy i think i would get rid of it and i would combine it with i'll wes i don't get why they're separate and i think there's a hesitancy to cause confusion between versions of apps and things were for what platform there on but let's face it on the irs app store we've already got some of that confusion and it's been handled to varying degrees of success so we've got i message apps we've got apple tv apps we've got iphone only ipad only you know universe laps we've got quite a few different options on i was already i say just throw the mac apps in there too and you know apple ids if you ever gordon is settings you can see all your devices that are set up with that apple id and if someone doesn't have a mac that set up at their apple id maybe you could just high those apps so they're not even visible but but what i'd really like and we talked about it when we talk.
