How Does Social Media Relate to Body Dysmorphia and Plastic Surgery

"Body via certainly not a new problem. It's being affecting men women everything in between for a long long time bit. Obviously the advent of things like social media and photoshop have soared unrealistic unachievable bodies are being flooded into consciousness most of the day every day. What role do you think. Plastic surgery plays into that good question. Maas pins on is probably slightly different. You alluded to the social media aspect and this is certainly an aspect of of aspirational bodies and appearances. Which the connections. Probably the the biggest example and i mean the. The joke of the whole thing is that your recently. It's all come out that a lot of that is actually fake. I think the role of social media and that is actually can be quite a positive one. And that's the way i wave always used social media to educate people and explain things and to craig realistic expectations and create a community whereby table can ask questions off previous patient for me. Social media has actually had the reverse effect on practice. It's made it easier because a lot of these patients are much better educated and so they come to a consultation not with unrealistic expectations but realistic expectations and a great knowledge of of what is available deadly into our podcast of watch their lives of fall. It is on social media. They've spoken there now. Group the followed previous patients previous patients. Give them advice and so they come in and they'll tell me what i'm gonna tell them they'll come in and they'll say i know you're gonna say i've got to lose ten kilos on i i would. I would totally agree. And i think patients that have true body. Small here is something that so it's not that we bang blind to it. I think it's it really is very very rare and i would say probably widely than one percent of patients that i would say so moist one or two patients a year that would come in with really unrealistic expectations. And sometimes it's not actually bodies dismore via that. They want to have the perfect appearance. It's maybe they don't have a true vision of where they're starting from. So they they come in and they show me a photo of. This is what i want to look like afterwards but it's an impossible expectations

Which i really like. It seems such an obvious thing. But this collaboration doesn't strike me as obvious so i want to know right away. How did this happen. Yes i always believed in collaborations. Corporate Media vs. Bolivian Democracy

"The on the show. We put the spotlight on bolivia as we examined the hypocrisy of western media towards the return of bolivia democracy following the two thousand and nineteen coup against evil morales in two thousand nineteen a right wing coup with support of both the us government and the organization of american states overthrew the government of evil morales following presidential elections that showed no proof of fraud or irregularities the resulting coup government led to several people getting killed following a wave of protests and arrest. This of course is a summarize consensus by the global south and certainly from the bolivian. People of what took place in two thousand nineteen western media on the other hand paints the picture of yet another authoritarian leader disliked by the us being quote unquote asked to step down from their post now following the two thousand twenty presidential election. Victory of evo morales maas party and the recent arrests of cool leader. Janine on years the corporate media is still following the same playbook of presenting bolivia as a country in turmoil with the type of objectivity that conveniently ends in a conclusion that favors the powerful

looted treasures will return to Nigeria at last

"Catherine. This is a fast moving news story. What's the latest with. The latest is a statement from the foreign minister. Heiko maas makes it clear that is part of the policy of addressing the colonial past. He says it's part of an honest approach. And it's about justice so it's obvious that moves definitely afoot What we're talking about here. Is the government preparing the groundwork with nigeria together in order to pave the way for the restitution at some stage but obviously the restitution will have to be negotiated individually by the museums in question. Love the intent to rest These works was sort of expressed. Some time ago by the german government right. They talked about that. It was legally immorally. I'm justifiable but this is the first practical steps have been taken by the german government. Is that right. I don't think you can say that. No because the government has been funding. Providence research of last couple of years and providence research should lead to something at some point it is also setup contact had station in gemini for claimants to approach in to ask for information to be put in contact with the relevant people out the groundwork has been of the past two years has been done. And as he said that has been this agreement so the intent between the states and the and the government on the municipalities so the intent has been there for a while and this was just a matter of time. Actually so it shouldn't really be taking anyone by surprise but of course is because it's such a big deal right. yeah dan. Can you say something about that because you know it is big news this right because as your book details. There's been such reluctance from museums to in any way engaged with the idea of repatriation. That's why it's a main. I do think it's an incredibly important moment. The idea that we now have a german official. Who has undertaken a visit to nigeria in order to talk about the returns and also importantly the fact that the display in berlin is being talked about in a new language in terms of consent that we're gonna display african objects if we're allowed to we're going to ask actually that's incredibly important. It's interesting for many that this is coming from the germans. They were not from the british. So what do we make of this moment of the german reckoning with the empire that was built by the british a very very interesting.

"Yes. Okay. So first of all, Becca says your interview with Sarah last year was one of my favorites of the show and what finally got me to read her books after knowing about them and how enthusiastic our fandom is for way too long. I started with a Qatar which I then got my sister to read and almost a full year later not a week goes by without talking about those books and those characters birth. After a Katara spent the rest of the year going through her entire catalogue in many ways. Sarah got me through 2020 and that's not an exaggeration. I'm honestly just love to tell her thank you. I wanted to ask about her writing process. There is no small amount of world-building seriously all caps. How does she do it? My theory is that the reason you would live in a multi hundred year old house is that the walls and the floor is need to be sufficiently strong enough to hold your story Bible, which is probably forty-five pounds, but that is only a working Theory off. Well, they don't make houses like they used to so I needed this the old floorboards and the brick foundation and whatever crap this house was built on but I so we have story Bibles a world Bibles, but I like don't really use like like most of it's like up in my head off. Which is like I've started having to write it all down like in a Word document just because now that I'm a mom I think like most of my brain got eaten by my child. Yeah. I'm I'm brain is very very real, but the World building. I don't know it just kind of comes out of like It's been curious about the world and asking questions and pause it and like it doesn't like when I write a first draft like a lot of the World building details will just be left blank like characters have many conversations in empty spaces where like like, I don't even have like the setting for them yet and then in like subsequent drafts, like I'll start going and layering like the full details that I think really make it come alive, you know, everything from the street food that's being offered to you know, I don't know there's a lot of food detail food and clothing sales which like even though I don't like we're close anymore. Like I'm like wearing like my dirty old workout clothes right now. Like there's a lot of like dress details have your food is always eating. I think that's cuz I'm usually eating when I write like one hand on the keyboard and the other ones like, you know, pop and Cheetos good. Yeah. Yeah, so But I mean the world just I don't know the world's often feel like their own character and I try to develop and like as their own character where it's not like I'm literally true in this one. Yeah. Yeah exactly. Like, you know think about the the history and like the layout of the world almost as like a character with their own backstory and like they're you know, how do they appear in all of that? But I'm not like a scientific typewriter my any like, I'm not like talking like planning out like histories and maps and all of that stuff. Like I just last set of languages..

"There is some like weird shit happening there that like causes me to like obsess about things that absolutely like a custom horrify me mister Collins keeps invading my thoughts. What does this mean? No one no one deserves the oil the oil oily looming presence of Mister Collins. I should all be free of oily obsequious toadying and grossest Islands. You deserve to be free of emphasis. Thank you for that. So yeah, let's definitely exercise that. Yeah exercise mystical. I did want to ask you about the portrayal of anxiety this book if you don't mind talking about that because Nesta experiences anxiety as cold water in a lot of ways and cold and and emptiness and I hadn't I hadn't really encountered that sort of an allegory. But wow, yes, does that ever fit? It's the cold of The Cauldron and the cold of water and just the cold of being trapped and in the faith Solomon. She wrote that it's not exactly your experience. But those moments needed to be written what has been the response so far been like to those moments and was that something that was was was challenging for you to write down. Okay, so I don't let go online and read stuff about myself. That's not like got my jam. So like I so but like from the friends who have texted it seems like you know, next has mental health Journey has resonated with a lot of people and that means the world to me cuz I So even though I began writing this years ago, I wound up deciding that. I was just going to like kind of go back to page one and rewrite nearly everything and a big part of that decision. Was that during those years this story kind of sat in my mind. I went through like my own mental health journey and struggle and you you know, I talked to you as about this last time, but like I said, I have now, you know, it's been a year now since I talked to you guys and I've done a lot of therapy and reflecting since then and I really learned about my anxiety in a way that like when it's happening. Now, I'm able to like almost take like mental notes about it's like that sense of like that cold like the acid like going through Nest along those were details. I was able to add because like that's how my anxiety manifests and it was like it was easy and it was hard to write about it. Like it was easy because I knew exactly how Nesta felt like and even though a lot of the details between us are very very difficult. Like I have been there and I you know, I'm still going through that and it was hard because putting myself through that Journey with nested like going on that emotional like walking that path with her literally like as I was going through it took you know, as I was.

"Like it's been so hard to read lately. Yeah. So I've like, I've barely done any time during this pandemic weird enough. I watched a lot of T and movies but I've read very few books and then the ones that I have read like I like reread Pride and Prejudice like three times like I'm crying I can't get out of it right now. I guess that duck in like a pride like all I can think about is Darcy and Elizabeth and like their wedding night, like imagining what boobs I'll be like, oh that must have been like I was like, oh like how Darcy have like, you know seduced Elizabeth and would Elizabeth have kind of known what to expect or what it all have been shocking to her but then always this always happens in the middle of thinking about this I think about poor Charlotte and Mister Collins and what time The wedding night with them would have been like and I actually like literally Googled this at one point like did Charlotte like concert May Arrangement Mister college? Cuz she's pregnant again and I was like like that can't be that guy's baby. Like she actually had sex with a guy and I read this whole like scholarly analysis of like how like Charlotte's of you have said versus like Elizabeth view of sex and like, you know with Charlotte, you know, she would have just been doing like a thing and like there would have been no gross Ness attached to it for it was like this whole analysis and it's like yes, I I can understand your intellectual thing but like like gross like Mister Collins, like I feel so bad for Charlotte, and I know that like she probably was happy and relieved that she had a good home and all of that but like you imagined that guy like like on inside of you off..

"It is an important safe. Harbor day is important. Electoral college deadline and well. It might impact the trump campaign's efforts to overturn the election. Because once again it could become even more of heavy lift as we mark safe harbor day. This is when states. With legal fights and recounts behind them can receive assurance that congress maas their electors. Yes this is so called safe. Harbor day law requires that congress recognized the slates of electors chosen by states that have resolved election disputes by today now the deadline comes as the trump campaign has lost well. Numerous court challenges in michigan. Pennsylvania wisconsin georgia arizona and nevada. Each battleground states that President-elect biden currently has one in seeking to overturn the presidential election now federal judges in michigan and georgia just yesterday dismissed separate lawsuits from a former trump attorney again. The trump campaign has vince distance themselves. Apparently unless it some form of an overarching strategy that i'm not party to but You had federal judges in michigan georgia dismissing those separate lawsuits just yesterday from former trump attorneys sydney powell. Now rebecca green. That's according to a piece by joey garrison out of usa today. Rebecca green is director of william and mary. School of law's election law program. Ms green says with each day that passes particularly once the safe harbor deadline has passed. The possibility of changing the result becomes well even more remote without credible evidence to support the idea that there's a problem it just becomes less and less likely that anyone is going to disrupt schedule as it unfolds in state statutes and in federal laws. Now the safe harbor deadline outlined in the electoral count act of eighteen. Eighty seven falls six days before the electoral college meets on december. Fourteen two formerly cast votes for president based on the popular votes in each states. What happens next. That's when congress meets. Congress meets january six to count those electoral votes and to certify a presidential and vice presidential winner biden at this point in time is set to defeat president trump. Three hundred and six to two hundred and thirty two in the electoral college based on these certification the certification of election results by states. Now it's unclear how many states will actually meet the safe harbor deadline. Governors are required to communicate if they reached a safe harbor status to the us archivist. Safe harbor protection applies to states. That have quote settled any controversy or contest concerning the appointment of all or any of the electors states. Don't have to meet the safe harbor deadline to have their electors counted but for the states that do their determination quote shall be conclusive and shall govern in the counting of the electoral votes.

Why Is a Brain-Shaped Blob In Canada?

"Stuff. This is Krista. Sager. lagoons are famous for creepy swamp preachers but in Canadian Park in Vancouver British, Columbia scientists have found something possibly just as outlandish a slimy gelatinous brain blob. Well, okay. It's not really a brain and it's not really even an it. It's a collection of tiny creatures collectively called a magnificent bryozoans or also known by its Latin name as Pectin Tele. MAGNIFICO this colony forms a brain shaped mass can grow to be larger than a human head and I think we can all agree that's a really weird now bryozoans sometimes, they're also called Maas animals there an. Ancient Group of filter feeders. The earliest fossil evidence of one of these colonies can be dated back about four hundred, seventy, million years individually each tiny invertebrate called Zo Lloyd Ken just barely be seen with the naked eye it's only about half a millimeter or about point zero, two inches long. But when hundreds of them assemble, they can glue themselves together with a special protein to form all sorts of shapes, sheets, columns, and even branched tree like structures. Now, actually, fossilized bryozoans are among the world's most abundant fossils as well, and you can find them in rocks originating more than four hundred. And fifty million years ago up until the present, their colonies start with a single zoysia which asexually reproduces until it's got an entire army of clones to hang out with most bryozoans, species live in marine habitats but the one found in Vancouver's Stanley Park belongs in freshwater it just doesn't really belong in Vancouver Canada this August the Stanley. Park Ecology Society held its annual bio blitz a community event in which citizens scientists survey the park identifying hundreds of organisms in twenty four hours in the lost lagoon, which is the parks bio filtration pond blitz goers discovered the giant slimy football shaped. Bribes zone thousands of miles from home. Their usual range is decidedly to the south of Canada and east of the Mississippi River and it turns out. This isn't the first time. A magnificent bryozoans has been found in this part of Canada and nobody can tell whether they're staying either. But why they're there is a different question like with most migrating or these days warming global temperatures might have opened the door of the great white north to these probably ecologically harmless blobs they need a water temperature warmer than sixty degrees Fahrenheit or sixteen degrees Celsius in order to make a go of it.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Heiko Maas spoke after a tour of Beirut's devastated port or thousands of tons of ammonium nitrate exploded August 4th, obliterating the facility. Killing at least 171 people and wounding thousands in the capital city. It's still not known what caused the fire responsible for igniting the ammonium nitrate, but documents have emerged in the wake of the explosion. So I guess the first question that comes to my mind is you know you work with a lot of mazing Amazon sellers in your skincare collective and programs work there in London. What have you heard from them in terms of their fears frustrations concerns by way of migrating or adding you know a different channel away from The stations can sense I mean he took into Amazon Selah. How long have you got about I mean but Most of them concern Amazon rather than. The fear of moving across course. It's. have. So much fair as a resistance on because I was just so much for you and when we bitching Amazon I, guess he's good to remember that the of qualified traffic with buying intense. Of people who have their credit card on file is amazing and the conversion rates she got on Amazon I mean I was looking at somebody the day in the United Nine Percent Convention right and I'm like, wow, that's great. We could be a fifteen, twenty, twenty, five percent. That's kind of eighty I in the context anywhere else on online, right? For. Those understandable reasons in people on in a hurry to get and they like to bitch about it and I guess every. So often the FE Simone Amazon and that's when they consider maybe making the move uninformed to be fair to the tank Muslims have very active people who do a hell of a lot of stuff and a lot of them have got their own websites. Some of them look beautiful designs when the functions he's pretty good. But does only a couple of people I think actually have any serious percentage of their sales going through their own I'm known Amazon sites. So. I guess that tells you a story. Nor. Does what do you think the The kind of the. Underlying real issue is there is there time? Is it there education about the other side's is at their capacity of their team? Our finances? I mean well, what do you think is that actual barrier to success? Is just good question I I organization of the of the work or it could be this very good question not something. I should probably ask people. It sounds like I'm about to pitch them into a shop if I but I. It is probably an important discussion points allies because I do think. On. The one hand, there is a growing awareness and interest amongst more more members of the Maas bonds. In being able to grow you an audience and specifically contacts, you are not as it tends to be sort of add ons. There's not so much the sales channel thing as a traffic strategy things so that or even being able to control things like reviews are a lot of people building a facebook chats audience in order to then get more reviews on Amazon but the sales China's by much. and. It's not so much a traffic channel as sort of a channel of contacts as the traffic for shopping is still very much about Amazon. Channel Four getting reviews. Is. Stuff like e mail I'm likely chapel design make some kind of say assured like the direct to consumer communication stuff they want to be in touch with them personally for email marketing, those kinds of interactions. Sure. Exactly. But on what the resistance is I guess the here's the thing that the growth sucks cash and also as a capital intensive growth model, a business model and I'm great at selling lots of stuff, which means that people constant need to apply that capital two thoughts channel neff while having a capsule spa and especially to drive traffic, which is my perception of the problem with your in websites Isn't that, and then of course, if you're looking in the short-term medium-term cashflow than if you put money into Amazon odds, I'm not tends to convert better than your own site would it's kind of becomes very hard to justify taking the money away from something that is going to produce an immediate cash flow to something as in. This is my conjecture. Sure. It's true or not but I something already she got an Oscar combined with because it's an excellent question. Okay. Yeah. No I mean that's very interesting. What one just response to what you just mentioned on the ads side of course, the mental shift there is. On Amazon if you're doing ams work, you're really spending money to make sales. On CHIAPPA FI. If you do it right I mean through other advertising platforms he really spending money to acquire a customer.

Off Maas Maas. quota most often by you and or I, I guess it would be both those who won't start. I was like to go last clips. Do you have five five? Clip have you? Let's get right to it. Then I mean, we're not gonna like quantification about the I thought about it. We should probably give a lot of credit to the writer, but I started doing the research there. And as soon as I saw more than one writer Mike, I'm not going to go down. Who knows? Plus, a lot of improv that goes on, who fucking knows who knows all, I know is, these are great lines Online's for me, it's much less about, like if you saw any of these lines on the page, you like all right? But then like the way they're delivered. So write big credit to the actors that's gonna come up a lot of the, the actors delivered these lines. Adleman number one is in red down the actor's name foolish. I didn't write down any other names is no some of them. Okay. All right. Who starting you? Number five. I do like this movie. Favorites. But it's dependent how I feel that day to forced our five star movie. I loved this movie. A one point I'm seeing the longtime but. There's a line reader. I'm right in the name of an actor from the ruling citing I know it now, but I could see myself drawing a blank when I come to it. My number one number five is from a film that I that I enjoy, call chasing Amy. One point late in the film. Holden has just laid out an elaborate plan who's holding pulled in his Aflac of the, the, the goateed Ben Affleck, the young teed. Ben affleck. You've just laid out an elaborate plan to repairs relationship with his girlfriend Lissa Bill has been and his best friend BankE played by Jason Lee. Here's his plan. Anderson, remember what it is. I don't recall the on the asleep together. Okay. That's other than repair. Their broken relationship. This is in your, your everyday speech. This lie. That's coming. Yes. Let's, let's fuck. Actually, he lays out a very elaborate plan to take several minutes. And. This is and I believe homeless cute. Yes, as the, the gravity of the Rosal, sinks, in BankE, who is a straight man reluctantly agrees for his friend Holden. And then he goes to Elissa immature, turn up. Does works. Here gar. Thank christ. I do every time out of anything anytime I don't have to do something anytime Christie is like we're not going to be able to my friends. Call thank rice. It's from that, it's, it's, it's the way he says, oh, thank Chrysler played again. Thank christ. I miss that guy. I missed Jason Lee. The lead up, you know this. Thank christ. Right. So who was saying, you know, I need this household Aflac those young athletic trying to talk to the everyone's leaving again. That's a solution say, every time I get outta something Christ. All right. Moving on my number five. This one took I'm not. I'm not gonna hit mother FOX. What happened? It took forever to find this clip. I found it deeply buried in one of the to YouTube videos that I found, which is like an abridged version of this boy's life. Now, this is life for those of you who have not seen this boy's life with Robert deniro alum barkin, and a young hidden gem doesn't come up, like on cable. Nardo caprio..

It's eight thirty pet's supposed to be over at eight. My daughter had homework and the night football's about the start. Bingo. Stugatz I said, listen, you have more than enough gas to get the kids at school in the morning and get to a gas station. He'd get gas and then come. She said. The thing was reading. You have four miles of gas remaining, right? This school on the way is about fourteen miles away from the house. Oh no, I'm still not certain if she got the girls at school, I'm not certain. She got home. She called me at one point frantically saying, what do I do when I run up Gaz? It says two miles ago. She could be cemented walked to a gas station. These are show with the stugatz on the ticket. It's a big week around these parts, huge event on Saturday, Maas Miami, and I just wanna say something personally about moss Miami went to last one. I had a great time if you care about this show and you care about this market, an ounce of what Dan cares about support this because Dan's doing some really cool south supporting local artists supporting local musicians. It's a really cool event. I think the fans had a really good time at the last Maas Miami event. Everybody who went from the show is very accessible. So. If you're fan and you want to take a selfie with me to go out there and have some fun that being said, we've been trying to do some sort of promotion for Maas Miami on the show this week, some sort of give away. And I've been utterly confused at what exactly we're doing. I still don't understand. I got this of aside. I got this by the way. First of all, I just want to clear something of about Tommy adult. By the way this the guy we got from the Diamondbacks yesterday. So I said, you never played baseball in high school or college? Yeah. So this is what happened. He gave up baseball in tenth grade. Okay. Started doing football. Then he tore is ACL in two thousand fourteen that he walked onto USF to try to be quarterback. He ended up being a wide receiver and then he retorted ACL. All right. And then he tried to play baseball in college, but you know, ACL tear so dudes and athlete. Yeah, that's clear. We did play baseball in high school just ninth grade though. Yes. And then he started playing football, and then there was an ACL tear, you know, whatever he's going be a star. All right. Moss Miami. All right. So here's the deal people. There's a lot going on Saturday. I will be there. I would playing dominoes as part of a domino tournament. And by the way yesterday we got our biggest get yet for the domino tournament guys, Don van, NADA, what we'll be playing dominoes tournament deviant will be playing in the dominance in rent, but he's bringing a ringer who just goes by the rooster..
