"Jamaica wilson and then sergio lopez were on your team. And how did the three of you work together. Yes so rica. They are violence personal travel by all whatever vials working on the two that and as so it really was like the best chemistry ever the three of us popular Yeah it was fantastic. It was like Jamaica it's a perfect hero viola and making sure that her hair was cramped really tight in talks underneath the way And she put the wigs on her every day and shape them round phase with the scarf on her and maintain the continuity onset so it was fantastic that way because i was still able to run apartment in viola had her people that you know she trusts in who have hurt and in sergio designed or make that Okay now must have been crazy. Because she has to look fabulous on you know. Gotta get away with murder and then not fabulous but fabulous in her world. You know for this film and that must have been really challenging. How did the continuity for the for that grease paint makeup work. I know right. Yeah yes sergio will want him. Viola have such a special relationship. You know where the trust is there so she you know entrusted him to really go there and gave him permission to really do it you now. What a challenge. Yeah she's really unique actress that way because she wants to remove herself completely imb really embodied that character and so vanity and all of that is not is not a part of the performance. You know like she is coming again. She wants to get marengo. G was not coming in to get my rainy. A couple of houses of viola davis you know is so in that sense. She sort of gave us all permission to totally go. There know band well worth it. Well worth it for sure Can you tell me a little bit about juilliard because a lot of our listeners are like the the how you got here story and and it's so interesting to talk to people. We don't talk to a lot of people that work on movies. You know it's mostly so i. It's very different world than you know the photo shoots and whatnot. So i just wanted to talk to you a little bit about. Was that always your goal to do movies or did you find yourself there I know juilliard was a big turning. Point for you. It was i so i never. I didn't move here planning on doing a film i was. I was this school in mississippi. And i met a woman kristina myers. We both worked at the match together. She had just been hired. She was awesome and she had just finished The juilliard internship programs you back to mississippi and so she was telling me about it and i was like you know i would love to to do something like that. And she's like you. Should you know and after working together for a while. She's like you really should think about that program. And she's like i will write you a letter of recommendation. So as she did. And i went there interviewed and got into the program and julia has a really good program. Especially if you're finishing college in you're trying to find that sort of in between like before i entered the workforce arm not quite sure especially when you deal with the arts next sort of creative field you know..

And it looks so strapping it's important to have lots of people around him and making the most strapping. He did very strapping throughout. I kept thinking that strap all the way through like relationship between you and a. I'm a little putian compared to you on all of area like the film. I liked the film a little a expected how how ended up. But that's kind. And i think i think that the book would probably be interesting to read as well in terms of viking that sense of dryness in drought and how how difficult it needs to be in the community depends on the weather as much does it will look i mean. It's been remarkably successful this film. It's like an eighteen million dollars north of eighteen million dollars in box office which is a very very good result. And i'm glad to hear that not altogether surprising. I mean he's got the Let's go banner it's got jennifer levi riley puffing terrific in the film and it's got the sort of bruna papin dry Might up stories kind of production imprint. Which i think he's probably more useful in terms of how it might travel to seize than here but still a factor. I think this is the bound the production team behind big little lies the doing A whole range of things that have got big attention and in recent times. So they're on the right our and my joy but probably the biggest factories that there's not hollywood films in the cinema. Something else to say in innocent. They're out that. And i mean there's been quite good for straightening films in some ways at the moment. I mean penguin bloom done very well as as well. I'm high ground. Which is a really terrific. Don't just sit in that. Yeah i think she and a gentleman after a couple of things that we would talk about the But it's kind of like it doesn't give does give it on true sense of how. Straddling phones connecting Maybe this year. And i think it's it's great things quite the getting shot are being watch And it kind of says well might if there's spice for streaming films at the cinema as they got more marketing support lang got a bit more of a clear ronn. I didn't go on for a week. And then all the people knew that were coming then than they might be across the board not for everyone. What was that film. The dressmaker transmitter. That was really successful at a time when there was lots of hollywood competitior. But you're stray film. But with an important and people can quibble about that. But i think i think of perfectly fine film and write their resumes people but i mean they don't come along that often and and that's that's a shine but you know the box office across the board is tracking..

Golden Globes 2021: Complete list of nominees

"Let's start off with the major categories. First of all, for best picture. For the Golden Globes. They break it down. Best picture drama and best picture, music or comedy. So let's start off with best picture drama in which the nominees are Nomad Land. This is the amazing movie with Frances McDormand. Who, you know, play. Somebody who's her life is sort of falling apart and she gets in a van and hits the road and lives in RV camps and recreational areas taking on you know little seasonal jobs along the way. It zest a very sweet and very thoughtful, touching movie. I think this is going to be the big winner for tonight. You know People love Frances McDormand. I think that this is gonna have a lot of Lot of success at the Golden Globes tonight. It will be up against the trial of the Chicago Seven, which, if Nomad land doesn't win trial of the Chicago Seven is going to win. This is the Aaron Sorkin. The written and directed production about the famous Chicago seven trial that took place in Chicago 50 years ago. The Carrie Mulligan movie promising young woman Is a revenge thriller, also an outstanding films nominated for tonight and also the Anthony Hopkins movie called The Father. Those air. Your nominees were best Drama for performances in the dramatic category. For actresses. The nominees are Violet Davis on Drew a day, Vanessa Kirby, Frances McDormand and Carrie Mulligan. For best actors in the drama. The nominees are Riz Um, Ed Chadwick Boseman, Anthony Hopkins. I think the winners are going to be Frances McDormand and I just I don't know how Chadwick Boseman Doesn't win. He's amazing in the movie Ma Rainey's black bottom. But you know the fact that he passed away the young age and nobody knew that he was fighting cancer. I think that probably is going toe play into the Planted the decision making also for best movie, musical or comedy. The nominees are Boer at subsequent movie film Hamilton. When they put together a television version of Hamilton in the put it on Disney. Plus, this got nominated. The motion picture called Music was nominated, as was the comedy with Andy Sandberg, Palm Springs. And the Ryan Murphy directed production. The prom. Which has Meryl Streep and has just AH, whole variety of very talented actors. That's also nominated for best picture as well. I kind of have a feeling that Borat is going to want to ping the winner tonight in the musical or comedy category. For best actress in a motion picture Maria Buckler Cova, who is placed Borat's daughter in Borat. Subsequent movie film Kate Hudson from music. And, uh, Anya Taylor, Joy dominated for the movie called Emma for best performance by an actor in a motion picture, musical or comedy. Sasha Baron Cohen is nominated James Corden from the prom Lin Manuel Miranda from Hamilton Dev Patel for the personal history of David Copperfield and Andy Sandberg. For Palm Springs again. I think it's going to be a kind of in a reverend pick, but I think Sasha Baron Cohen could wind up being the winner. Now. The Golden Globes also give out

"78th annual Golden Globe Awards were the nominees were announced yesterday. For the show That's airing on the 28th of this month with Tina Fey and Amy Poehler co hosting for the fourth time. I didn't notice this yesterday, but There were some snubs. Always snubs. There were some snap it up, Dubs Love is dead to me was shut out. Completely. I wasn't surprised by that. I get So I wasn't surprised because I remember. I feel like you guys weren't loving it. I feel like I liked the second season more. Then most people did. But eh, so I'm not. I'm not surprised because I didn't feel like it had the same critical acclaim that season. One did when it felt very unexpected, But I guess I would be surprised just because you think of the total Number of releases this year, which didn't seem like a ton. I don't know. I just feel like this Christina Applegate, especially and Linda Cardellini. They're just So good. There's like so much great. So many great performances out there. I get it if they were nominated in the first season, it's like, OK, we already did you let's move on to the next person Ma Rainey's black bottom, which I just watched last weekend. Did not get a best picture nomination. But Chadwick Boseman and Viola Davis did get acting nods. I think that's accurate. Sure it was You know, I know it was. I believe it was a play, right? Yes, And it felt like you were watching a play. It felt very Like what? That's a weird thing to happen. But if you're watching a play, you kind of have a different suspension of disbelief. Sure, oftentimes than you do in the, you know a movie. So, but Violet Davis outstanding. Chadwick Boseman. They did a dedication to him. Also at the end of that movie, by the way,

I imagine the be less studio interference. It's probably going to be a type of film but she wouldn't may. I'm trying to a of trying to like have look to see. Who's which studio is behind it. But cleopatra the sixty three movie with elizabeth taylor richard burton. Richard was huge media like in terms like budget. So i think the guy to need. I think they're gonna. I think it's also going to be a giant and bowl moving but at least it's tied into like it's soon it's not tied in to like you know toys sales in licensing rights and shit like the problem. Well if you want to get into fucking toy sows dirt. The golden egg lama did shuttle. Like i mean come on. Yeah like on. I wouldn't be surprised. It's probably warner brothers. Raden a superman sixty four which is considered to be one of the best video games of all time and apparently pot of the blame goes to at the time those a new new people hired for the licensing division at dc comics that will vary interfering with the price of the game and they'll saying shit like suit man's all out of punch people men would not punch someone econ have anything break around him because men would not destroy property which is the opposite of men still and at the end of the day that game ended up being anything allowed to do as a man fly through hoops. Siam agean when it comes to a movie there would be like problems with our brand for this character and shit which is why again. I think it's sarah amazing. You'd say something. Like these. Even fucking chris nolan doing such a unique. Take on the dock. Not in our. How many fucking pitches the dot have to do to to get to be allowed to do his vision. I measured be. It would have been a would have been a battle or don't or a bit before i'll be a anyways. Thank you touched on. A lot of the other stuff was going to say. Saw soul is just honestly just the movie that twenty twenty really needed. Like it's just it's it's such a insightful. Deep and hot woman's story but at the same time it's It's it's a little bit tragic. It's a little bit you know. It's exactly what i want from pixar movie. you know. it's not this It's no 'cause riley caused does this thing where we're going to appeal to kids. We'll be loud bright and shiny. And whatever i'm like you know we're we're not going to try and do anything data when we're going to try and worked for more depth. I think i could argue that. I think 'cause is the only picks off franchise it's like that. In my opinion. I feel like that whole franchises dampened the reputation of pixar. Because when i think of pixar. I think of like what you're saying. Now these big emotional stories and describe yes and nar I mean. I think i think there's only really three movies that really go this deep inside out car and saul really kind of like on a different level. They can also they can earn. They can pretty much be on a trilogy like those three films especially they can be like a trilogy about like the The you know the the whole perspective of feeling like you know anything about anything in your mind Psychologically speaking all three movies Just so intense. Like in what they do and i was like i i didn't i didn't i didn't love it. I really wanted to love. It was initially a bit like Okay i'll go with it fine Seconds john sort. I kind of like really fell in love with it. I wanted to trent reznor and atticus ross. Did the skull fucking love that man because the music and this was really different like like i can't believe it was trent resona man like he really stepped out of his comfort zone. Like two different projects. I'd say mackey did the same right. Yeah if you'd like 'cause. I was watching that first time and i was like this feels very like century. Feels very like soc milwaukee. And i'm just like why does it feel social network and is it's so yeah fantastic. The animation is absolutely beautiful. It's stunning like does the same like kind of like in a hospital. Bed and mike. The cat is walking on the hospital bed and it looks like a real like blanket like that is walking on. And i'm just like how you can pull that off The this this is a really deep story it really hold hearns in on the idea of depression. Harnes in on the the need to fuck and live every day as if it's the last I do think it's it's it's a little weaker than carter..

There's plenty of music, too, with works by Irving Berlin, Duke Ellington and George and Ira Gershwin. Blues from W. C. Handy and Ma Rainey works from 1925 were supposed to go into the public domain in 2001 after being copyrighted for 75 years, but Congress extended their copyright Taunton 95 years. Which brings us to today, artists who want to create their interpretation of public domain works can do so without fear of a lawsuit, leaving a range of creative possibilities.

We're talking about Ma Rainey's black bottom now on Netflix George in her final moments, Is there one thing in the film that you would love for audience to pay particular attention to one moment? One scene one. Costume just something that you just when you went back and looked at the final cut. You're like chefs kiss that's that's the moment. I had the whole films like that. Hello. Thank you. But I don't know. You know, I do feel that in your district. It's just extraordinary detail in everything I think when my rainy drink Coca Cola is such a wonderful moment. Because it's so indulgent, but and it's so defiant. I think there's this early moment when when Levy shows up with his new shoes on their yellow and Toledo Who looks at those shoes with such Desire like I wish when I wish I had That in a pair of shoes like that one day and which is which is ironic, given what ends up happening because of those shoes to him, So they're just these these special little moments that happened. So, um Those are two good ones, but that's um so it's you know, it's just moments like that moments like that. And their times of them at the time of their times with the cast is extraordinarily brilliant. When you know juice on Brown to play, Sylvester finally gets his his intro to one of my songs correct and the way he dances and the way he beings is just glorious. I hope the whole cast is I feel very, very glad for all of them were so wonderful. She she gained some weight for this role, she eyes this is amazing, and sometimes unsettling performance as my rainy. What does what did Violet understand about Ma Rainey as an artist? I think she understood. I think he understood that he was. I think she understood that my understood. Awoke. I think she understood that my was a warrior. I think she understood that there is an incredible degree of exhaustion, You know, spiritually, physically emotionally exhausting. That comes from being award. I think she understood that. My is Deeply. Deeply driven by her art and the potency of art and wanting to protect and honor that and do whatever she needed to do to protect her music because the music, but that's only Just reflective of horrible reflective of the culture that she came comes from, So I think she was she, you know, so I think she knew all of that. And I think she imbued all of that. And I think that That That in some respects, Biola gave Ma a certain kind of power. Emma gave Iowa certain kind of power. And I think it was a real I think it was It was fun watching. Watching Violeta flaunt. How difficult self around and you know that's part of that. You gained some weight, but also and brought the customs and crafted a bodysuit to expand it. And I just think she She enjoyed that there's a kind of voluptuousness and fullness that I think she really enjoyed him, inviting him on one of the things that I love about working with my own is that There's no shallow vanity that you must negotiate a relationship where Mm hmm. She gives herself to the role and and that means her intelligence for her craft her everything. Take a listen to Violet Davis playing Ma Rainey. Here she is talking to her Trump own player. Cutler.
