"Spca to hire someone. Who's an azure experts. You can just let the power of automation. Takeover the second area of investment that we've made is pricing automation. We make it really easy for 'em as peace to understand. What is it gonna cost them to go to their cloud. Distributor and purchase. Microsoft azure and microsoft. Three sixty five so that they have this sort of demystified view of their costs which is really a big problem from peace. Who really believe that. There's no way to make money in the cloud. The third area that we've invested in is management so our nerdy. Oh adleman portal is a single pane of glass. Multi tenant management portal that allows an mvp to manage all of their customers and to do it in a way where they can accomplish any task. They want to accomplish in. Microsoft azure in three clicks or less and then finally the fourth area that we've invested in is optimization. We've built quite sophisticated but easy to use auto scaling technology so that an msp can turn off and on azure resources can expand and shrink azure resources when the demand dictates and as we know in a consumption based product like azure. The the more. It's on the more you're paying the lessons on the less you're paying typically so this is a real benefit for msp's so to summarize withn radio for azure. We've really taken the concept of automation and applied to microsoft azure and the market to make it such that. Msp's can build a successful profitable cloud. Practice in. microsoft azure even without a lot of experience prior to meeting us. So it sounds like you become the simple button for azure and also for these. Msp's the better build their practices. I understand that. Msp's generally they're smaller businesses. A lot of them tend to get stuck at a certain size. How are you helping them. To get unstuck can focus in. I guess i guess the automation is really helping here. What else are you seeing in. How are you helping them along. Well vince i'll make a bit of a provocative statement that i've been starting a lot of webinars with over the past month or so if you look at microsoft's last earnings report. They announced that they grew the azure business. Almost fifty percent. And if you think about that for a second. Microsoft azure is more than ten years old. And it's greater than ten billion dollars. So how many businesses are there out there that you and i can think of that are more than ten years old in greater than ten billion dollars growing at about fifty percent a year that there's not too many right i mean we'd have we'd have to stop and think about it for a minute right all if you're an msp..
More than 300 flights canceled at MSP Wednesday
"Part of the U. S. Is getting hammered by a winter storm affecting holiday travel. No wind. A nice throughout the Midwest is to blame for hundreds of canceled flights. We got on the plane and they got a side of the plane after we got on and we were at the plane for, like, At least 45 minutes. He tried flying out of Minneapolis ST Paul. And we hit the number of you know really Challenging issues that we had to address in order to take the company forward as we expanded both geographically and a more customers. So i was born born out of a real will will need to find another term what we see a msp managed service provider. What specifically do we need a really good question because it means different things to different people but in the context of we look at it. I suppose We're talking about the transition of organizations probably in historically been resellers or services organizations supporting communications infrastructure and as they develop and mature and move more into a managed service provider and would discuss a bit of what that means later on. So i think some from in the context of Besides the transition of organizations from being maintenance and service providers into being truly managed service providers and the level of By expertise and They degree of of management that they provide to their customers. So let's put these two things together. Resign them What problems you help. Msp solve Well if you go back to alpha the things that were really Providing us with with a need to do something different was was growing customer expectations and And think those expectations of only continue to grow over the teen years that You know we've been focused in the syria. And what i mean by by that is a la- also saying i think a lot of providers in the market we're really maintenance providers and then the demand was for More and how can you demonstrate that value to it so forced us to be based at what we did And the other which was which was equally important from a business perspective. Was the push on cost vice. So every time we acquire new customers moved into him huge graffiti we needed to employ more people more engineering resource and it was almost linnea so as we grew our cost base group. We never really We're getting hit commissioning. And i think the food and an equally important was the complexity of the environments that we were supporting mochi vendor environments often multi support partners and all the finger pointing between tone within those environments So we looked around and see. How do we do this. How can we come up with a solution that can help us. Draw provide greater value customers. Take pressure.

"Take pressure off our cost by and be able to deliver outstanding service and there was nothing about so we. If we went about building versailles with those things in mind. How how do we do it better. So even pre copen at the beginning of this year were there challenges facing the. Msp's were new and You know took some consideration to solve You saw a absolutely. I believe so. I think if you look at all these people with around the world the real drivers for for them. How do they increase the recurring revenue high margin recurring revenue. How do they reduce the the spice. And how do they increase the customer satisfaction and reduce chin. So what are those businesses issues with their product. Cova the i think the impact that code has had his really celebrated all of those issues for them and i think The the one of the really important questions that Myspace or asking now. Customers are asking now and We're asking is. How do we maintain the relevance of the pe- in this new world and as that celebration of change happens had we were gonna change to be able to make those challenges so really interesting tom fascinating town so before we move onto the the how to make them relevant or if they are relevant why why is there a relevant challenge. What's causing that I think it's it is the acceleration of change. Because every covid we knew there was a move to the cloud and the adoption of cowed services. And we a like proliferation of applications. That were being rolled out an enemy. We were talking earlier and you mentioned zoom And you know it. Those things will there. And i think a lot of organizations were quite I suppose sikkim speaks about how they're deployed across the force and The decision timeframe on what application said rollout and all. Those things were were quite considered with with cova. I'm all of those considerations were with thrown out the door and organizations had to deploy and they had to deploy quickly so that accelerated change. I think is is really being up the the big driver.

Donaldson, yes, if at least a shorter shorts are coming back into into style and they just want to be. There too and whether you believe it or not. Hold on for a second one here on a pair of shorts. It might be dated reference. A lot of people might not know what that means down shorts. No. One person reacted like what's Bermuda shorts. That's are not no one else Adam. No. Okay, it's good. If, they're those are coming back back Danny get ready. For the next on? That means the leisure suit may be play here one of these years. The polyester down those are very. Minneapolis I heard this week that both the Jason Show in the weather tariffs are returning to the Studio Fox nine thirty Monday at the highly acclaimed program enough said will be returning soon. Inquiring minds want to know I'll say right now Kevin. You know as much as I do about When and if we're coming back, I don't think the program has been canceled. At least they have told us if it is. And we knew it was going to be a long slog and we're probably going to be the last to come back because you know we're a week. Lower Cute, little weekly show. And Jason Shows daily whether terrorists are daily. So I. Guess in my mind. I'd like to hope that it would. It might be September. But I don't know I I know. Technically speaking just about as much as As. As you. In that particular regard regarding training Camp Vikings Training Camp I. Think is more for the younger generation of fans. Yeah, I think that tends to be true, yeah? Apple who go forever. But there's most of the time it's. It's it's it's kids, and it's younger people who sort liked the idea of you know being relatively up close and personal. You might have a chance in an autograph. But of course, all that was going to be out of the went out the window. This year anyway, don't you think I mean that was never? There was never in ally, autographs or anything like that this year. That is one hundred percent correct, so in any case we'll we'll. We'll keep an eye on all of those things On the question of advice at Twenty Dr. Phil, from Saint Michael Writes Best Advisor Twenty Six. Maybe the dangers of wearing Bermuda shorts in Texas. Which is not bad? It's a pretty good line I don't know if how many people Even, know or understand. That story it was. It's too and I'm not even sure I completely remember. The, genesis of at the start of it, but. I think somehow. I think this was still I might have still been writing than. and. Somebody was mad at me about something. and was very dismissive of what I've written in wanted to be dismissive about me, and it was something the effect of that he you know. Why should I pay attention to him? He got fired in Dallas in Dallas. The Dallas Morning News for wearing Bermuda. Shorts. which was news to me? because a I wasn't a big Bermuda shorts wearer, and be I didn't get fired from Dallas. Morning News But I came to find out. Find out later that some in some weird way. The. The emailer head confused me with some. sushi array rant about Bermuda shorts. Somehow he put the two of us together. Invented a section of it, but it became very quickly part of the Fan Lore at that juncture. And so ever since I've kind of gone along with it that you know, one of my regrets is I got fired for in Dallas in Texas for wearing Bermuda shorts when there was no truth to it I think that's where it began. The funniest thing about this for me is I've known you now. I've worked here for ten years. I always just took that I thought that was real. I never knew that you were accused wrongfully accused of being fired yeah, it was. That was real, equally important, wrongfully accused Bermuda short right. What's the distinction? What are Bermuda shorts? A specific kind of shore? I just had to go. Look it up because I wasn't sure either. It's dated reference I've yet. So from the images I'm seeing when you when you put in Bermuda shorts and pops up with all these images. It's kind of like a Capri style pants, but they're cut off above the knee. Rather than you know your Capris, are usually around your calf so they it looks like they're almost like tight jeans I turned into shorts because they're either rolled up or cut off just above the knee cap above the KNEECAP. Well, what is fashionable today are sure as a fashionable short. The entire niyaz covered or is it less than that it's what is the current. Shorts are making a comeback can't stand though yeah I know back in the ninety stockton shorts. He used to wear with the Utah Jazz see that coming more and more I. Think we're GonNa Start in the NBA again. You know if you go to a you're you're a pool? If you're going out to Maui unfortunately, might guys in a lot shorter bathing suits. You didn't ten fifteen years ago to. They're making a comeback. That's too bad I. I But that yeah, that is sort of the the history of it and I don't like I said I I. Don't know that we've talked about it on air. People just like you as well apparently assuming yeah, that that was indeed the case email Peter I'm not sure what. Prompts this email. Why don't you guys ever mentioned that? The eighty percent accurate that gives a twenty percent margin. A false positives slash false negatives I. Don't know. Is that the percentage? It might welby. That's a subject we can explore with a male clinic. Big knocker Dr Maurice perhaps next. As early as next week. I I knew there were some false. You know not. Every test was accurate and a lot of times. It also has to do with how how. Safely the test is administered. Got It? There's there's procedure there. It's got to be administered the right way I don't know I'll be glad to, but if If! It's if the twenty percent false positive, false negatives true and they're equally true than. The numbers. So if the numbers are eighty percent accurate. What is that telling US I mean they're still through the roof and a number of states the. Positive tests through the roof. Even if you would make it from one hundred percent down to eighty percent, they're still. I think fairly historic in number of states in the south, and also in California's through the roof to which should not be. At all a forgotten Robert Rights to comment halstead a major part in law because he would bring it up all the time in the Bermuda shorts thing yes, he did. He, he may have some of the stuff. He has a better memory of than I. Do even though I'm meet. And it's about me so I. He may fill in the gap. I'll ask them next time I. See him or well. I don't really why do I guess him? Between shelves today was he got my rocket after the bad blood between him, and rose up the show common was he added he was ready to get out of here. Maybe it's good that Rosen's off next week. "Lots of change of course since the last time you were with me on the show as after news for you wonder what will make you very happy. United. I know. You don't fly united but if you were to fly again united as asked cabin crew to controlling to dimming windows of the liner essentially say allow the passengers do whatever they want these goal. I mean I understand why they dim them at certain points of a flight on mass. So the whole cabinet atmosphere changes especially when it's supposed to be time to to sleep what? I get frustrated by than when they're locked that's what management that it has to do not lock the system. Essentially I wonder if they're able to restrict the DIM nece. So if you say you can. They're unlocked but they can't be fully open which I would kind of understand. That would certainly a piece people like me. But that's interesting that they've had such volume of feedback that they've made that change exactly or they just listened to layovers. That's that's more likely exactly the second news I hinted at it in the intro did about you is that. Berlin seems to be happening actually happening because thunder as actually scheduled flights on October thirty first. Which is the opening. Apparently the soft opening date for a full opening November eighth. It's pretty unbelievable. You set yourself that you were not believing and I wasn't believing it either but it seems stupid will open I. I don't know why it is changed times. It's interesting. There is a third party setting a date for their moving as opposed to the airport authority or anybody on behalf of the airport saying this is going to be the open day. It's it's an airline saying this is when we're going to shift and it's all their operation right. It's not it's not just a test. It's this is when we're GONNA start flying out of that airport and remember when we did both of the airports of berlin-tegel and Schoenfeld lift as it doesn't fly there. They send eurowings. I mean does Fi of course but I'm wondering now if we will actually have proper operations as Frankfurt in they don't they don't really so far so I I still cannot believe it. I mean I don't watch. I just can't believe that he's going to happen. And you know we running Joe too was was going to arrive. I Will Italia Fail I. It seems that they will never fail. Will the Max Awry? I A berliner. After these two are still in contention the Mexico to arrive before Berlin. I duNNo. It's very because with strange times. We'RE LIVING. I don't lie about answer window. So there on office and depends on Crete where you sit and Jeez. I want to give up to Andrew. Curran is a writer for a site that we both read quite often called simple flying and so quoted us like mentioned us which is very nice. Exactly that okay. Because we were saying like who's going to be I you know the Max or and well. He said that we did. Put our money onto Max coming. I was still have a shot of that Andrew. You're basing northern New South Wales in Australia. I I'll show her friends will maybe having a strap. Is it coming up at some point this year? Maybe maybe so into you will have it. His favourite airline is a Singapore Airlines. Here you have very taste I was gonNA say fair enough. I'm just wondering what's Your airport. Because you say northern New South Wales Brisbane is probably close to you. But that's already Queensland believe so which one is it Andrew? Just reach out to us and thank you for for listening. And since I'm on simple flying they also have a podcast. It's a very cool podcast as well. Everybody's doing podcasts Alex. We're we're the okay boomers podcast now because we're like the og in like everybody does podcast. It's very close. The I think they started like early. Feb they also have like these kinds of thirty minutes once a week. Type of Schedule which is really cool for those who don't want to listen to US venture for two hours every odd weeks that we we. Do we do this? So simple flying. You can find it on apple podcasts and everywhere and this is Super Cool Bravo guys. Congratulations more the merrier. Since we're talking about okay boomer of Aggie podcasts. Ourselves to reviews I on apple podcasts. Five stars thank you. The title is where has this? Been all my life from BIG CASTS. Eleven from the. Us These guys are awesome. Content is always amazing. Well thank you so much. They really open up the world to people through their travels. I'm not traveling and personal experiences. I love their personalities. Spot guests is great for any AV geeks such as myself or someone who loves travel. Thank you so much and the second one is from already in MS ready in MSP. Of course Minneapolis which we now covered as you heard. Alex great details on Global Airlines Five Stars Great Show. I always enjoy your shows and look forward to the next one is interesting to hear where you have been and the airlines. You flown on question receive people. I love it that people use reviews. Us question looking at booking a trip to Rome on American Airlines with miles and seem to be able to get much better rate if I had to stop in either Madrid on you barrier or London. Nba would you recommend this? And if so which city in our line? Well Man Rudy going to Rome today not sure. I don't think that here experience. If you quite what you hoped it would be the. What would you do for when if all this stops because Italy for those? Who Don't keep track of isn't a full lockdown. So I mean I know that Ryan ourselves fly Suzanne set from Rome but besides that I think no one flies there. Would you if you weren't? Us would you fly direct with a? Would you prefer a barrier via Madrid? I know our love for Narnia and or we e throw with. I don't know the long haul product. I don't really know the shorthaul product either so I don't know but between the two I would still go a in premium an above but be a in economy. Yeah and if you really want to stop so meaning if as out of the question be. I think it's still a better choice in because you will not be changing terminal in Saudi throw. You'll be fine. Yeah passing so I. I know some people might disagree. But and it's not that we don't pay you better. I think the whole product I've done because I've done to Madrid three forty I think. Yeah it's okay. There's ochre like looking at each other as the be a business for instance but it's it's okay. I think still better. So how's your flu Alex? Well just waiting for the inevitable. I can't do this all any of us can do anything. Yeah exactly it's it's so strange man. Up China Eastern has introduced a new coronavirus glass. Oh on top of visas. Glass preemies coronavirus. The last three row after starboard side off their aircraft will be reserved for those who show potential signs of sickness. Now it's not called the coronavirus. Plus that's me actually making that up but they are actually segregating a bit of the aircraft for people that might have signs of sickness. I I don't know how it works but yeah people that develop the symptoms during the flight. Surely you shouldn't be traveling if you already have this and maybe an epidemiologist would be able to tell us if this is complete waste of time it feels like a complete waste of time. Yeah I said in my very long intro in the previous episode I'm sorry guys it was thirty minutes of renting that Yeah you should be flying if you if you're sick even James Von for crying out loud is my God. I'm like I'm so unhappy about that. That was you. Were not traveling. At least seeing James Bond like a month would have been called but no we don't even get get oil. You can't go. I mean people are not supposed to the movie theater anyway. That's what we're doing right now. Alex Social Distance. What exactly I don't know man. I I think I have a lot less apocalyptic view than this or more A. There's very little I can do about it. That's true however I think that's that's very true. I'm being mindful as not being panicky and I. I see people being panicky. I think that I mean we'll come to that. Actually know what planes it becoming the safest place for social distancing because they're at and the prices are dropping some of the. I mean I think what we see on. Social media is the extreme cases where there's four people on a flight to wherever it may be but the data is now emerging to that showing that these these flights are tanking. And you know now. These reports are coming out. That airlines are running virgin. Nba running empty flights. Just to keep the slots alive gump to that. Yeah Yeah it's not. I mean I think it was of all of the industries that could suffer the most initially. Who knows what the future holds travel and particularly airlines. We're going to be the ones that got hit

"Part aside and then at the other end of the spectrum it becomes a moral question again on the financial side in that Most companies. You know really. All companies have shareholders or owners somewhere that they owe financial fiduciary duty to to maintain the financial viability and protect the company. And if all your data is encrypted and gone and all your backups are gone and you've got nothing and the company faces almost certain ruined and maybe complete Evisceration financially and maybe you know bankruptcy or liquidation If if the data can't be brought back then there is the moral obligation to The shareholders whoever those may be the pay the ransom and get the information back and get the company reconstituted as as possible. The really have You know a a pragmatic solution. In some cases book ended by two moral decisions that you have to make and And those moral decisions can be conflicting but So in that case I would say yeah I mean as unpalatable as it is if you have a bunch of shareholders in a bunch of company value in a bunch of people working there that have jobs that they're counting on it the company and your only way to really Resurrect from all that is to pay the ransom and get going again then as unpalatable at it. Is You pay the ransom. Unfortunately that's tough and I hate to leave us on that note but Let's turn that back around a little more positive again. And just just a hit back on the the points that we've been addressing today so we've seen that the ransomware attacks are becoming more sophisticated. They're they're learning to hit US better. They're learning to ask for more money. you know the image of of some you know young teenager in their in their basement as it were and and just messing with companies really isn't the reality there's some sophisticated Attack operations happening out there and they're making money doing this so So we wanted to strengthen our individual security postures within the providers. We want to build up a library of information so we can analyze these attacks. We want to be able to combat a PR move. That may say hey. Msp's you're not safe. Don't you know they're lying or they're not as trustworthy? They want you to believe we have to be able to combat that message as well so I'd like to end those more positive tones of of. Hey there's there's work to be done but it does look like there's a path for us to follow. Would you agree? Only what you just said couldn't have been said better in summary of what we just talked about. That's exactly what we need to be doing. As an industry as professionals within the industry awesome. Well thank you for your time and for sharing this information. I'm looking forward to seeing if we can do more. I think as as I said as a the liaison between calm and our it security community. This is something. That's very interesting to me. And I'd like to to raise it again and see what else we can do with us. So thank you very much and everybody. "To To the IT service provider community so that we know exactly how these breaches happened so we can Build in specific protections against those types of threats. And you know I've had with you Recently I had a chat as well with The you know presidency of of I think company isn't a good unique place to be able to confidentially reach out find. Nda's with these companies and find out what happened you know and talk to them and say for the good of the whole industry and even your good you know we need to get on top of this you know. Tell us what happened And we'll publish information without revealing who you are. I think that's an essential role right now for for our industry and and there's not many companies organizations that are in a position to fulfill that role. But I think that's one. That company is uniquely qualified to fulfill. Yeah that's interesting. I think that would be Worthwhile to bring that up with are the Executive Council group with our community so that would be fascinating and and I think maybe related to that can be you know some other research around it you know to to show the effectiveness of of working with an MS versus not. Yeah absolutely you know. I don't have hard data myself but I our client. You know the the incidences of ransomware that I mentioned at the beginning of this program were new. Clients COMING INTO VODKA ARC clients. I can tell you have almost zero incidences of getting ransomware. And I don't think I know it's because they follow a lot of good practices practices set forth by you know my it teams and you know VCR's and whatnot who we have you know counseling our clients and my staff that helps them implement security measures and all that so You know fortunately our clients have a very very low incidence of ransomware And I believe that most other. Msp Clients Fall into that same category where they're incidence of ransomware is vastly lower than the population of companies without an MS peak guiding them. And helping them through the gauntlet of you know security things that have to handle so while. I don't have a particular date on that again. I'd like to see you know sort of association might come to you. Go Out and gather that information I am. I was talking in the in the past two or three weeks. I've been talking with the cyber insurance provider. And they don't have the data that they're willing to provide me at least in certainly not for this purpose but their evidence evidently shows that clients that Clients of MS piece are safer than those without. And that's the kind of information that we need to be able to get to publish Because my concern is is that if we get another bout of MSP's getting breached in their clients getting Ransomware and we get a big noisy. You know Amount of negative press on this as a profession. It's GonNa hurt all of our business within within the industry and the message that that's going to get that. Hey yeah this is a problem and it needs to be addressed And what's going to get Mrs that as an industry we are taking steps to address it and the most important thing that will be missed is that. Msp clients are safer on the whole sure. There's been some Problem at tax but on the whole clients or save for what the P. Without and that's the kind of Proactive PR messaging And leadership that We need to provide as MSP's and Security leaders within within the IT community. That's great that's I hear here right. That's that's great stuff so before I let you go. I do have the the the the big question that maybe people are wondering themselves that if they get ransomed and they receive a demand you know be be a ten thousand dollars for for you know over a million dollar value of data or it's more equivalent than that. I've seen an array of recommendations up to this point. What would you would you recommend that? They pay the ransom today if they if they're unable to recover it if everything's locked out what do they have an option. Yeah questioning in a totally legit question to ask And it's a tough one because it involves question of morality you know. What's the morally right thing to do? It's a question of pragmatism. And it's a question of you know. Financial Fiduciary duty and you know first off on the morality front. Yeah you don't WanNa pay these guys because it just makes that their business model more profitable and might be a criminal business model but it is a business model nonetheless. And if you feed them and make them prosper They're going to continue to do it so you know. I've seen some people in the industry and I've seen some people in law enforcement. Say Oh you just never pay it. Well that's the moral answer and that's certainly answer. There's a pragmatic answer that you know if everything's gone You know. How do you reconstruct it? And the only really pragmatic thing to do might be to Pay a ransom to get it back..

"Testing and that was the only reason they had a recoverable backup where they would have been paying a big ransom as well. Wow so that recoverable backup. Obviously that's that's that's the game changer. Now that's that's what's making it from a hassle to crippling for business absolutely. Yeah you know. Whatever you're doing with your backups. You GotTa make sure that it's you know completely segregated disconnected separate credentials than what you normally do on your on your backup systems. And don't just think coughing stuff up to the cloud is going to be good enough because I've seen planes with that strategy. And if it's if that cloud access is the same credentials as admitting the network Or if it's a map drive up into the cloud that stuff's going to be encrypted as well while so it gets back down to the the classic struggle between the convenience right of all single sign ons everywhere and everything all connected versus than that that layer of security that that we're losing with that convenience an era of perpetual disruption much of it propelled by breakthroughs in business technology access to industry insights and expertise is more essential than ever so as to you three or nonprofit. And all the levels of your organization succeed through unbiased industry insight credible guidance and support of collaborations that help you transform the way you do business become a member today at commttee dot org slash register so it seems like there is a role here to be played from from security providers for managed service providers in general. What can you know? Maybe what can they do? Or what should they be thinking about as their own organizations to combat this so they don't have to tell their client? Everything's gone well first off You know there's an existential threat to our business model going on right now because the ransom were purveyors or criminals. Whatever you WANNA call them They are specifically going after. Msp's today and other it service providers because And they've gone over after service providers of all sorts not just It service providers. And what they're finding is that if they break into an IT service provider and MSP. There can be a treasure trove of access to dozens or hundreds of of additional potential victims And if the MSP is not handling their information correctly there might be a bunch of log in credentials and other information available. That's GonNa be a complete treasurer to these guys to go navigate and exploit other victims and. I don't know the first hand information because I wasn't directly involved but There have been a number of MSP Breaches in the past few months a couple of months and I know in one case it was an MS P with about eighty clients and as it was reported in things I read on Reddit and elsewhere. They had about eighty clients of which The ransom where people within went and ransom those clients and You know this is just a huge potential problem for our profession. You know You know I of the belief that most. Msp clients are better off and safer than clients or end user. That don't have an MS p working with them and protecting them but I think if we get a lot of outbreaks like this the message is going to get picked up by the likes of the Wall Street Journal and NBC News. And whoever else is Will cover a story like this. It's GONNA be. Hey you can't trust your service providers. They're they're placing you at risk and and I think we have to take some extra steps as a profession to make sure that we locked down our system's and protect them and I'll give a plug for the security trust mark and trustmark plus programs. We are All vodkas lung for a long time..

"Now open at MSP international so cleared it off getting at least one runway back open as flights will continue back into MSP international. And we just we hope that it clears off the rest of the day could be okay. But man, a lot of snow and now the snowiest February in Minnesota history man second month in a calendar year, April two thousand eighteen same thing. Well, when we look back at history, I think that we need to what's the popular sane. You know, if we don't learn from our history, we're doomed to repeat it. I might be paraphrasing. It's something like that. But we need to learn from history. We need to reflect on history we need to improve from from our past mistakes. Right. We need to make sure that we don't repeat those mistakes, we need to we need to learn from them. And we need to do that to make this a better more welcoming place for our kids and even right now for the people around us. But I also think we have to be careful in how we re rewrite history. So this happened right here in Sarasota, Florida. Just this week. So the World War Two navy sailor from that icon ick photo in Times Square. You know, when the war ended World War Two ended there's that famous iconic photo. And this Taylor is is holding and dipping in kissing the nurse who's wearing all white will on Monday that sailor died. Ninety five years old. Tuesday. There's a big statue here in Sarasota, Florida, Tuesday, the statue that is of the sailor holding the nurse was vandalized. And said hashtag metoo on it. Now, the story behind this iconic photo, which took place in one thousand nine hundred eighty five in Times Square was that the sailor in the nurse. They didn't know each other. This taylor. Everyone was just so crazy that the war was over and so happy and celebrating the sailor ran and ended up just kissing this nurse in dipping her in the the shot was taken boom and the two went on their way. And it wasn't even until years later that they recognized or heard that that was them that they found out that that was them. And there was no relationship. It was just wasn't romantic. It was just celebrating. And there was relief that the war was over. And I don't like that me too was was painted on this. I just don't. Here's the thing. Yes. The me too movement is has been extremely important, and we're learning, and we're growing, and we're understanding that certain things that have been done in even said that are harmful to to other people in that is absolutely important but to rewrite history and now I'm not advocating that people when you're celebrating can just go and kiss whoever you want and dip them. Of course, not. But to rewrite history on this iconic photo and say like seventy years ago that was inappropriate. Well, okay. But the two people who are part of it. Never had a problem with it. And it just seems like okay. Yeah. We happened that happened in nineteen forty five people were celebrating. That's neat. That's the way our country was at that particular time, it's not like that anymore, and it shouldn't be that way anymore. You know, there should be more respect for each other now than there was in. But we're learning from our mistakes, and we're learning from our history, and this metoo movement is helping but we don't need to rewrite history and say well, look at this. This. This was assault seventy five years ago. Here's a lot of things that happened seventy five years ago that we aren't proud of. But hopefully, we're growing from it in learning. Did you hear that? I did you hear about the sixteen year old in Kentucky. I again, I think this is another thing we need to be careful of is the we'll see a video on social media, and will instantly have a reaction, and then we'll fire off a tweet or a message and say like, hey, can you believe this or whatever will? But we don't understand the full context all the time. And I think that's that's something we have to be aware of because there are people out there on social media that have agendas, and so what we saw this this sixteen year old in Kentucky who had on the make-america-great-again hat this red hat and last month. He was at the center of the confrontation with the native American at the Lincoln Memorial. And for two days. We thought this kid just a horrible kid, right? Everyone just on social media ganged up and said look at how this this racist kid is doing this and this and this and then we found out. Oh, wait a second. There was somebody that took that video out of context. And that actually the native American went over to the kid and the kid was kind of like, I'm not really sure he was uncomfortable. He wasn't sure what was happening. Well today, the kid is is suing the Washington Post two hundred and fifty million dollars alleging that the newspaper made false and defamatory accusations against him. Now, two hundred fifty million that's about the same amount that Jeff Bezos paid for the paperback in two thousand thirteen the Washington Post and part of the lawsuit says engaged in a modern day form of McCarthyism because the paper wants to advance its well known and easily documented biased agenda against President Trump. So they're seeking two hundred and fifty million dollars in damages and again, this goes back to our conversation. And I think there's a personal responsibility about it. I think we as consumers as people who consume social media also have to have to be proactive. And and and look at the source where this video is coming from. It's easy to look at that and say, wow, look at this. How can you? But you know, what that may not be the full context. And as it turns out in that particular case there was there was somebody with an agenda a social media agenda that took it out of context framed it this way and got the narrative going and then. Everyone ran with it and said, wow, this is what happened and then they had to backtrack. I think it's got to be careful, and I think there's personal responsibility there too. There's also a responsibility. With the planet grove dot co all natural eco friendly products. And it's easy right now, it's snowing. You don't wanna go outside and get shampoo or paper towels or toilet paper, especially in the winter. Well, you can have them delivered right to your home withdrew grove dot co. It's easy. It's in all these products are are, natural and sustainable, and and it's a company that stands for something. They believe.

"And through cloud computing, MSP's ABT ten targets victims in the following areas. And this is what they have listed. Here. Agriculture automotive defense, contractors, electron IX, energy, financial, government, human resources, manufacturing, medical, military, mining shipping. Technology services and telecommunication any activity related ABT ten detected on a network should be considered an indication. Of a compromise requiring extensive indication in contact with law enforcement, the FBI is providing the following information with high confidence. So, you know, I guess bring the stuff all together. And what are you have you have a threat or a possible threat? It is out there about the cyber infrastructure or whatever. I mean, take the information. Do what you want with it think about it. Let's go to Josh in Georgia. Hi, Josh on ground zero. Josh and Georgia you're on ground zero. Okay. What is wrong with? Josh. We hold on. Josh there. Don't hang out. Go ahead. You're on the air. Go ahead. Hey, man. I want to compliment you on a wonderful show today. And earlier I was listening to NPR and they did a short report about what you've been talking about. But they came at it from a completely different angle that we were actually Charlie was playing catch up with us and all technology was far outweighing. They're still our biggest threat was the maneuverable satellite. So I just wanted to make that comment on how I heard it portrayed on another side of the media today. Okay. I know idea MPR was doing it from that angle. But it looks like I mean, we're all circling around the same nail waiting to hammer it, and you know, I guess interpretation is is part of this. I mean, I'm interpreting and one way NPR interpreted a whole nother way. And I guess we'll see in the end is what is happening. But I think a lot of people are in denial about just what is going on in how the distraction right now is the political anger. We're seeing on CNN MSNBC and FOX I mean watching Nancy Pelosi hit a gavel over and over again all day is far more boring than hearing about what's going on with Chengdu four. What's going on with the base in Argentina what's going on with its stock market? I mean, you know today there was a plunge. I don't know what was happening in China. But it just seems to me there. We're seeing zigzagging of the stock market. And when I see this happening. I worry that you know, there's there's rumors of something going on somebody gets wind of it and stocks drop, and then when they apple shares, actually. Yeah. Apple and why is apple shares dropping because of China? This is I think people need to understand. This is going on. And sure it all sounds like conspiracy theory because I'm talking about it. And I talk about. I appreciate you, sir. Your so appreciate it. Thank you so much. Thank you. Josh forgive me that information I really appreciate the NPR angling indication I'll do some research on that tonight. Thank you so much, and you know, and that's the thing is that, you know, I'm in the bubble and truth is, and I'll I'll tell you the truth. You know, when I see things like. I'm reporting this. I don't know if anybody else's reporting it is because I'm in a bubble. Really? I do not have the luxury of watching the the main talking points of the mainstream news coming on the air and going down them one on one. And when I mean by this is you can listen to any talk show on any station. And the agendas are set and people are using the same talking points over and over again. And like, for example, you know, yesterday was all about Mitt Romney now I could've gone on the air in ranted about Mitt Romney. But you know, what what I mean a lot of people all our political. Well, okay, we'll save that for political save that for your bitching and moaning about how somebody said something about about Donald Trump. And now, we're all angry about it. Okay. But you know, what you hear that every damn show, and you try to find something that's going to be different. And you have to dig a lot harder than going to the mainstream. And so if you dig a lot harder than instead of going to the mainstream you find yourself sounding like you're alone. And I don't mind being alone talking about things that other people aren't talking about because I know that in the end if they make them to the mainstream which a lot of times, I've heard people like Tucker Carlson and others talk about what we talk about like weeks afterwards. I mean, I'm realizing that yes, we are the first we are the litmus test ground zero listeners you who call in and discuss things with me. We are the ones that are the sounding board. We have been the ones for many different shows. We have been the sounding board and the beacons that have started the conversation the ball rolling with certain topics that wouldn't even dare make it to the mainstream. They'll they'll have a different angle for some different saying, I don't listen to NPR because I have to come in every day, and I have to pace I do my own reporting on my own. You know, I have to go and find other sources where I can at least get an idea or paraphrase, or do whatever if somebody else has some brilliant idea that I wanna latch onto and using my notes that I'll do it. But this is why he's so nice is so amazing. When callers call in. And they say I heard this from a different angle today. It's something that's what I like the I like to hear that even if there's no agreement here because I hear people say, well, I don't agree with you a hundred percent of time. Even if there's no agreement TJ called in. And he didn't agree with me. But see we didn't go to fisticuffs over it. And we don't always agree politically. But TJ is a very very articulate human being. And you know, and he's amazing to be able to get his point across the way. He does. And I think people forget objectivity subjectively. They forget how it's important to understand that sometimes perception and opinion is not fact, and I say the same thing about what I talk about. I say because I used to say here on this program. I give you the truth. I give you the you know, what I gave up on that a long time ago because he was such a cliche axiom to be using after the X files. I thought you know, what I may not be giving you the truth because the truth is hard to find anymore. So what I give you is honesty. I honestly see. These circumstances, which are somehow mitigating the warning that we need to be vigilant. With regard to what China may be doing and what they're planning on doing with the infrastructure of this country and whether or not. They are planning a cyber attack. Russia could be planning to but Russia is talking big about their nuclear weapons, and there's certainly dangling there rockets in front of Donald Trump's rocket. And I mean that metaphorically. And the FCC has been suspended. So I don't have to worry about that. Really? The FCC is is shut down tonight. So that's as close as I could get to being offensive. Yeah. I can say well, I was going to do that whole of talking to Andrew my producer. I was going to do that whole thing. Whether or not Grover, I've got this thing about it's kind of the new laurel Yanni thing. It's Grover say the F word or saying something else from Sesame Street. I wouldn't that be great. If I could do that. But now, I use my discretion. The FCC because you know, one time I did a show and this was back in the nineteen ninety s where I actually brought on klingons people who speak Klingon conversational Klingon. Yeah. Live long and prosper Klingon. Brought them on to talk on my program. And I said, can you swear in Klingon for me? And so they would swear in Klingon on the show and somebody actually called the FCC on me and said CLYDE had a group of geeks on his program swearing in Klingon, and since the FCC could not push any issues on swearing in Klingon because no one else would understand it. They lacked it off, but I still got a phone call. From the SEC saying were you having people swearing cling on on the air. I said, I don't know. I I did swear in Spanish, I said something in Spanish that was because I said, well, the only thing I know that it's in a foreign language. That's whatever. And I use it. I use the word in Spanish that would be considered a swear word, and maybe that got me in trouble too. But you know, it's just how silly the FCC is how silly this all is the fact that suspended them in the fact that you can get away with a lot of things they can still send a complaint when they get back to work whenever they do. Come after you. So I'm going to be on my best behavior. So the best you're going to get me is dangling rockets in front of each other. Because that's what I see it as my missile is bigger than your missile triple eight six seven three thirty seven hundred. That's triple. Triple eight six seven three thirty seven hundred love to hear from you tonight. Triple eight six three three seven hundred we'll be back. Eight ten and one zero three one WG. Will Tech Sector Finally See Growth in Wages?
"As it stands. The tech industry has yet to see gains in hourly wages that have reached the broader market some say, those wages are poised to increase. Others say you shouldn't believe the hype just yet. The Wall Street Journal's JR Waylon has more although employers have been in a hiring streak for nearly one hundred straight months. It was just recently that hourly wages have risen. That's good news for workers and for Wall Street, but things aren't as rosy when you shine the spotlight on the tech sector where wages appear to be defying logic and remaining in a holding pattern. Well, here's somebody who can help explain things for us Harley Lipman, a CEO of Genesis ten one of the nation's largest tech Steph and companies so Harley like in most other sectors demand for skilled IT workers is very high you'd think that would be driving a wages. Employers have gotten far more sophisticated and Savi in terms of understanding pricing of services. So for example, they'll they'll manage you. If you're a large vendor at a big corporation, they'll work on getting price discounts volume discounts. So that's one way in which if kept wages lower also the views organizations called MSP's managed service providers where they basically outsource the talent for IT professionals, and these MSP's all their about is basically keeping costs low the bid vendors against each. Other naked fiercely competitive drive costs down that's the benefit for corporate America. So they've been somewhat affective in keeping costs down a wage is down rather is what I meant to say you also have H one B visas where people kind of held hostage to a one employer from overseas typically from India, but not only from India. So the employer says you're going to be in United States you have to work at this salary and people on each one b visas are trapped by that. So that they can't do anything about it. So. That has also kept wages lower and corporate America has like that. This is the best market in history. You know, I've been in this industry for over thirty years. So I've seen the two areas the two times where wages. Wages were low. And then it went high in the nineties when it was booming and also in two thousand five two thousand six and part of two thousand seven and I've never seen more demand for IT workers than today. It other words it's greater today than it was in the nineties and greater today than it was in two thousand five to two thousand seven both to periods which appointed out when there was a boom in hiring IT workers so Harley something has to give here, what will eventually trigger a substantial rise in wages. Well, I think that process has been ongoing while it's made it's not visible behind the scenes, if you will IT managers across the country are complaining because you have not workers that are leaving to get more money. Elsewhere. You have a situation where they're not getting the talent because IT workers today for them. It's a great marketplace in terms of choice because hiring the soul. Robust that today IT workers have more options than ever had. So that is putting pressure on companies to do something about wages because partly why the losing people if not the major reason is because a lot of people are looking elsewhere to get more money. What role does immigration play in the current world of tech employment? The concern is each one be reformed. So what's happening? There is that there is huge uncertainty with IT workers who are on the H one Bs. They make up a large part of the landscape of the ID workforce each one b visas IT workers. So that's the reason that they've given to get the H one B saying this shortage of skills in the in the United States, which is actually really not true. But that's what they've said. And so they come here. And now because this administration is tightening the existing laws and they're not renewing H one B visas. Or at best is uncertainty companies need reliability and they need stability. So what has happened is companies are now reluctant to bring on any H one B visa people and not only that but people that a working at America's companies with H one B visa a solely being replaced because they feel that when the of these comes up to be renewed. They're going to have all this knowledge of the business of the of the technology applications and is a big learning curve and IT. So if you lose it employees, Tori, painful, it takes three to six months before even a trained IT person becomes optimally productive and any IT environment. They have to learn the processes the systems this specific applications etcetera etcetera. So what is happening is companies? Don't want to bring on any more H one B visas, that's creating a greater shortage now, which is propelling IT departments to go to the finance. Department or to go to the board and setting I need to increase salaries because I even have a deeper Gulf than I thought I would. And what we're finding is that companies wanted source domestic talent. Now, it don't want to go off shore. Because what they're finding is the quality is not as good as what they'd like it to be. There's a lot of miscommunication. When calls at language nuances you so we it's called rework. So companies have complained that a majority of their work has to be done over. I hear numbers spend the gamut from twenty five to seventy five percent of whatever work. They give off shore has to be done over due to miscommunication. And part of that is that if you're working with India, for example, which is still the epicenter of all show work. You have to be on the phone at three in the morning. So an eight person typically doesn't take a job that requires you to be working three in the morning. So our people speaking to their eight people advice versa. There'd be people speak into our a people. So that all speak. To that. Plus in India, you have a lot of turnover India because it still an emerging economy, and people are gaining a lot of opportunities in wealth that didn't exist. Let's say years back. So people will jump very quickly. It's not a Mitchell workplace, let's say where it is in the states of western Europe. So for a very slight increase people will quit so turn over an India somewhere in the mid thirties, which has a dramatic impact on productivity.
U.S. indicts hackers working for Chinese spy agency
"The Justice department unsealed charges today against alleged Chinese hackers accused of penetrating networks of US government, agencies and companies deputy attorney general rod Rosenstein, says some of the hackers were affiliated with China's main intelligence agency charges include conspiracy to commit computer intrusions against dozens of companies in the United States and around the world. This case is significant because the defendants are targeting uncompromising managed service providers. MSP's? The indictment says the Chinese hackers managed to steal the personal information of more than one hundred thousand US navy
Body found on Lake Michigan shoreline
"Making headlines across the state. I'm Michael Cohen state. Police are investigating the discovery of a man's body on the shoreline of Lake Michigan. Detective sergeant Bryan fuller of the MSP Waylon post says it was found in a deserted area. There's a few homes along the shoreline that are up the hill quite a distance. It's just north of the city of south haven. So this time of year, there's not a whole lot of people on the lakeshore. However, there was a person who was walking the lakeshore this morning who who discovered the body there fuller says the body was that of a white man authorities now working to identify the victim Michigan's unemployment rate dips to three point nine percent. Why people should stop building rock towers

"msp" Discussed on Packet Pushers - Datanauts
"Shifting the cloud versus building internal infrastructure so okay if you think about the implications for vars and msp's in that space who may be would've made a lot of money helping you stand up that solution in house our vars msp's go kind of hurting are they going to keep hiring engineering staff if i'm a career minded person think maybe i make a living there working for a reseller cloud changing the equation or maybe that's not going to happen that's not much of a career path for me anymore i think it's again i feel like enterprises are still going to be wanting to work with ours you know the var value proposition has been somewhat questionable for a long time but i'd say overall they're providing you know a decent value for their customers and especially in helping their customers navigate the cy think that's the the biggest value that they're providing is basically being able to to answer customers questions and they're still going to be needed in fact maybe they'll be needed even more because maybe their customers are gonna have no idea what some of the stuff is and they'll need somebody who can come and discuss it with them the best bars that i know are the ones who do that they answer people's questions not you know here let me install that for you where it's not just about services that get added to a big medal by now it's while and as you say stephen it always has been although that consult consultation service the wisdom that you bring because you've got technical knowledge and so maybe the question isn't which storage array should i buy or which server vendor should i pair up with its which cloud gives me the most bang for the buck for this kind of an application that i wanna host and yeah and you just end up shifting your wisdom into a new knowledge domain exactly and that's that's where i think you know companies can really see a benefit still from even even now from you know working with vars and so on and there and there's companies in that space to i was talking to company just the other day cloud genera that was talking about how to compare different you know different cloud solutions and they're still a market there yeah as i think that the the main value there is the exposure all the different vitamins and it's hard to put a price on wisdom and experience that's that's really what you're trying to bring in as what are other people doing what has been successful in and how can i be successful versus you know i don't want to read the manual install my surgery for me that kind of thing it's a switching gears just a little bit i guess kind of an adjacent question would be the independent contractor i wanna go down that route i wanna work for myself within the current it landscape is there still a gap that the independent consultant or contractor could fill instead of becoming other faceless number by a massive corporation that steals in blackened zero soul yeah absolutely in fact i think we're getting to the point now where independence is becoming even more attractive than ever think about it this way if companies are going to try to implement strange exotic things like open stack you know the chances that they'll be able to either train in house staff or hire quote captive staff who really focuses on the stuff it becomes much more challenging for them to do that i think there's huge opportunity out there for people who really know coup bonetti's to sell their time kind of time share themselves on different companies basically if you can get really deep and really know something you know the huge opportunity there but speaking of someone who has been an independent and now runs a small business it's also very very challenging because the whole running the business side of the thing is maybe not everyone's cut out for oh baby you're not getting oh that's a whole other show yeah when you want to have that show we'll have that so yeah well okay stephen i think we've covered a lot of storage and you're weird love for thanks etcetera one of you very much for being on the show and we're really happy to have your thoughts shared with the.
