Fresh update on "memphis" discussed on Lakers Nation Podcast

"I don't take the fourth quarter come back that seriously. The sun's obviously took their foot off the gas, they didn't even bring in Booker and Paul until last 5 minutes or so. Hope they bring it on Sunday. Yeah, look, I'm not saying, oh, the fourth quarter told us they're the better team than the sun's right now. And everything is fine. No, I'm just saying the energy. The energy they brought in the fourth quarter was more of what we needed to see. If even if they had brought that energy throughout the whole game, that doesn't mean they were going to win the game. Camarillo Anthony. Had a nice night shooting the basketball 5 for 11, four for 6 from three. He contributed to that comeback as well. But I'm not saying that that's the solution to everything, but I'm saying had they played with that energy throughout the entire game, we would probably feel a little bit better about this one even if it was a loss. That's what I think needs to transfer over is that fourth quarter energy because most teams if you play against them, you're probably in pretty good shape if you bring that kind of energy, particularly against say like the Memphis Grizzlies. Next game coming up on Sunday. I think we also have to mention again with the consistency that they've had. The first two teams with the Lakers had on their schedule, were probably the two teams that are in at least the top 5 of teams that are best suited to take advantage of the Lakers right now. In terms of teams that their offense is good enough and has enough cohesion that they will recognize any time you make a mistake, and they will punish you for it. The warriors and the sons are two of the best teams in the NBA doing that. So that's made things look even worse. Not saying things are good, but it's made it look even worse than it would have had they started the season off against, I don't know. The Orlando Magic and the grizzlies are something like that. Yeah, I agree. You know, for the comment, right? I actually also don't put too much talking to the fourth quarter. But like what Trevor said, at least it was encouraging to see that the team could get to a level where they're competent. They're a competent NBA team. If you want to take away anything positive from that game is that, you know, they have it in them to try and make a game out of something when they're down by a lot. That's always good to see. It's just now you got to stretch that out for four quarters instead of just the last one when you're getting your ass kicked like Frank mogul said. Yeah. Exactly. Exactly. I'll also say this. I don't know if this makes anybody feel any better in this situation, but the Lakers aren't the only team going through this. The Boston Celtics lost by 30 tonight to the Toronto Raptors. 32. The raptors team they got their butts kicked opening night. They're opening night. The Milwaukee Bucks got blown out by the heat last night. There's some blowout performances that are happening around the NBA, trust me..

"The mason minute. With Kevin mason. You might have heard the story last week about a Kroger and suburban Memphis being shot up by a former vendor, killing one in the store, injuring 15 and then killing himself. It's been big news around Nashville because he had ties to Nashville his family still lived here, so it's still in the news today. But one of the interesting parts of the story that just kind of freaked me out a little bit was when they talked to the police chief and he praised the workers in the shoppers, saying they did the best that they could do and knew what to do. People were hidden everywhere you could find inside refrigerators, wherever it had to be. He said, we entered the building and was obvious they the employees and the customers knew what to do. Run, hide, and fight. Have you ever walked into a grocery store or a big box store and thought what happens if somebody comes in and tries to kill us? Where am I going to go? What am I going to try to do? I thought it was never entered my mind. We don't live in that world. But sadly, it looks like in a way we do, and we have to think about those things. Every time you walk into a building, you have to think, what if I have to run and hide? Are you prepared? Hate to say this, but you need to be prepared for the worst.

The Murder Case of Yvonne Layne: Searching for the Star Witnesses

"At this point. I've been in touch with david thorne for nearly two years. David has been in prison for twenty two years for allegedly murdering his ex girlfriend yvonne lane on march thirty first nineteen ninety nine since then david has adamantly proclaimed his innocence and the bizarre murder case and conviction has been featured on multiple news tv e programs and so for the past two years. I have been consumed like dwayne poelman. Warned would happen and so i decided to finally enlist the help of professional private investigators. John harden danny wexler and jason baldwin from the west memphis three and his organization proclaimed justice so back on the ground in ohio. We continued our search for chris. Campbell remember john. And danny thought rose and chris were the most key people in this entire investigation chris and his girlfriend rose. Were the star witnesses at trial. Twenty-three-year-old rose an twenty one year old. Chris both testified at trial. They said they saw joe at the carnation mall around closing. They said he told them he was in town for a job and they said that job was to kill a girl. The card joe allegedly wrote his phone number on for. Chris was presented at trial to prove that joe was there with them the native the murder and at this point. We don't really question that they were all there together but what happened while they were there is what we wonder about by trial three months after the murder some details of what they remembered changed from what they'd set in their initial statements and then a bit more change between those statements. The time they took the stand six months after that rose initially said joe was in white pants and a white track jacket by trial. The pants were black. Rose also said that. The knife that joe showed them was definitely not a pocket knife. She said it was an eight inch knife in a sheath by trial it was a pocket knife. We tried to find rose on our first trip because we had many questions about her statement. We wanted to know why it changed and also about something. She told police in her tape statement. Because i'm scared for my life. Because chris campbell for me if i said anything he met me. And that's why i've been scared. His oliver nagai as race. People do things when they're scared. Like sometimes people lie and we wondered. was it possible. She lied

"She said her face and her eyes were fixed so her eyes were open and staring into space while rachel talked on the phone. Joe nora stay near the foyer at one point nor tried to get to mother but joe held her back. The kitchen floor had broken glass in the door window panel which had been broken. The window had been broken. A odd spot though. It was not broken with doorknob was but broken near loch further up on the door which could only be seen from the inside. So this meant that jennifer's killer had to know about that luck. Well yeah because if you're trying to open a door you're going to break it near the doorknob unless you know that there's that unusual lock up higher on the door. Let gonna be some interesting evidence. I think that's significant. You're now when rachel returned to the sun room. Nora was still rocking and crying. And she noticed that nora didn't have a speck of blood on her which was weird because she was saying that she had gone to her mother. It's true his blood all over the place in their bedroom right so she noticed that nora was very sweaty and the paramedics and the police showed up within five minutes of that. Call memphis police officer. Russell tankersley arrived at jackson's house. At about five fifteen. That morning the house was dark with only a porch light on a few lamps inside nor came outside screaming that something was wrong with her mom. Tankersley entered the house with his flashlight and his weapon drawn inside. He saw blood on the floor. He saw broken glass in the kitchen. Nora came back inside and told him that her mother was in the back. Then she again start yelling my mom my mom and tried to go back to jennifer. Tankersley asked his partner to get nora out of the house. Walking slowly into the dark bedroom tankersley saw blood on the floor. Blood on the bed and blood all over jennifer's body. When he had cleared the house to wait for paramedics he looked at nor more closely. She was wearing a blue jeans skirt and grey long-sleeved sweatshirt and she told him she was tired and she just wanted to go to sleep. Which really was a red flag So michelle hobart. A memphis fire department paramedic arrived in order for her to examine jennifer's body. She removed a wicker basket that was covering her face and head. The basket was covering jennifer's face head and neck and her mouth was filled with blood. Hobart placed a cardiac monitor on jennifer's cheek to check for electrical activity the heart but there was none. She stopped counting the stab wounds at fifteen. She did not take a core temperature but would later describe jennifer's body as cool not cold five eighteen a m hobart pronounce jennifer debt. So why didn't she take the temperature. That something. I haven't been able to figure out current of the rule right yeah. There's no question that this is a murder right so there are some things. I think they should have done that. They didn't do parent a few hundred try to establish a time of death or estimate of time at death. You're gonna take a body temperature. He had just saying she felt cool. Really doesn't tell us anything. Cool not cold. Yeah that's an important distinction. Thanks a lot for that. Yeah so joe and rachel. The neighbors were certain that there had not been a basket on jennifer's head when they went in to check with nora remember rachel had gone in and check jennifer and saw her eyes fixed staring into the ceiling or whatever but when the paramedic check the room the basket was there so she had to remove the basket to examine jennifer..

We've been able to deal with the problems to give these people and landlords some closure so that they can move on. Detroit Pistons Sign Luka Garza

"Luke garza could actually become a real. Nba player that guy that one collegiate player of the year and yet nobody wanted and is drafted in the nba draft What ended up with twenty and fourteen or something. Last night he was. He was outstanding Again he has dow signed a two way deal. So luger's who does nobody been. It's he'll end up getting four The pistons but luca garza signed a two two way deal. He of course had a historic collegiate career at iowa. But he was you know by all accounts slow-footed big played near around the basket and so was of no use to people in the nba. And yet he made threes. He put up to huge double doubles and in their finale. Last night ends it with twenty one point and fifteen rebounds and got himself a two way contract so the luka garza dream is still alive after getting selected fifty second in the nba draft. He was good and he's fun. You know he's a real throwback but I i love the idea of becoming you know. Just the there's i went back and looked kevin. There's never been a guy like you by where this has happened work. I becomes the naismith player of the year in college basketball. Nobody wants him now. Not all of them have panned out. "The clippers have reportedly acquired veteran guard. Eric bledsoe from the grizzlies. They will send patrick. Beverley rajon rondo and daniel otaru to memphis and the deal. This'll be bledsoe's second stint with the clippers. He was drafted by the team in two thousand ten and spent his first three seasons in la. This is mostly a money move. It saves clippers thirty million in luxury tax and it creates eight point three million traded player exemption that they will have a year to us so it gives them some flexibility moneywise bledsoe's going into his twelfth. Nba season the average twelve point. Two points three point four rebounds and three point eight assists per game last season with the pelicans. He was traded to the grizzlies before the draft in july. So think this is a good move overall. Money wise for the for the clippers. The Battle Raging Over Antisemitism and Israel in the Kids’ Literature World

"A few weeks ago. I did a chabad table. Talk segment about a statement condemning anti-semitism released by the society of children's book writers and illustrators. And the apology that followed but there's much more to the story in fact. A battle has been brewing over anti-semitism israel in the children's literature world for quite a while. Gabby deutsche the reporter for jewish insider who wrote about the wider issue is with us now to discuss. Gabby welcome to people of the pod. Thank you excited to be here. So let's first talk about that apology. Did all of this come to light. Share so in the world of As these writers all kids literature is shorthanded. Everybody uses there has been a movement toward diversity calling out racism and all forms of aid and several months years as there has been of course in american society has evolved and about a month ago the beginning of june this organization the society of children's but writers illustrators put out a statement unequivocally condemning antisemitism was a very strong statement it was not political at all. It's not mention. Israel did not mention the politics of the u. s. or elsewhere in the world and jewish writers in fields. Were excited to see it and it was actually. I found my reporting the results of a lot of work by jewish writers. There was an open letter sent around urging this organization to put out a statement. It's an organization that you have to be a part of what you are starting your career. As a writer of children's books and young adult novels it helps people find agents. It helps them promote books. It helps them get bite to give talks. And we'll a lot of influence so when they put out a statement condemning. Assumpta cemetery to wait what happened after that was a lot of controversy on a statement that on the face of it looked very positive which writers in the jewish community ultimately agreed that it was so about two weeks after that statement semitism issued the same organization. Put out another statement. That looked in part to be walked that back. It seems sort of like an apology for their statement on anti-semitism. It's we apologize. The people we've heard you know specifically palistinian american writers muslim writers and many people. The jewish community got the sense that they were saying we can't condemn anti-semitism unless we also condemned islamophobia and other forms of pay and of course the jewish writers also scab against other forms of paid as well. But they were surprised to see the statement following what had been said about anti semitism which did not mention israel. It did not even mention the recent conflict between israel from us it was purely referring to the rise memphis is in the united

Georgetown Law Professor Barnett on What to Expect From the Presidential Commission

"Pros and cons. Um, of in favor of the different report foreign proposals that they're listening to, so they're going to do the pros and the cons and I, the witnesses that they have are hearing from by and large. I think the majority of them have been against core packing, including Left of centre professors from Harvard, like Noah Feldman and from Duke, like Neil Siegel. Um, now there's been some Ford it but mostly they've been against it where I think they're going to see more pros than cons, and I already get that sense from listening to their questioning is on court is on term limits. Because I would say more a majority of people. They're hearing from kind of favorite term Memphis, and I think that's even true. Some of the commissioners so they're going to get you're not going to get a recommendation. You're going to get a balance. You're going to get a report that shows pros and cons and there is like there are like seven or eight right of center originalist scholars on this commission Which is kind of how I got to testify out of how many Out of 30 or more. I mean, it's it's imbalanced. But look, there's more balance on this commission. And there is at the Georgetown law School. "Reasons why this case was very controversial is due to the hastily selected suspects dubbed the west memphis three as ryan previously discussed these boys at the time. were targeted based on their appearances and their lifestyles and unethically obtained confession. From jesse miskelly led a storm led to a storm of court appearances in media frenzy that lasted for years. After many years of the west memphis three being held responsible for the murders multiple private investigators and individual activists conducted their own investigations to find out what really happened. This lead to a breakout of new evidence and suspects that had been considered suspicious and one who had never even been questioned by the police despite being close to the victims and even having a possible motive for the murders. So let's get started. There's a lot of fire here to like. There's a whole lot of possible suspects that the police just completely and totally didn't even talk to or completely overlooked even though there was like an abundance of reasons why they should be looking at them. It's it's a very strange thing that they they did hear. It shows how they they. Purposefully made this such any easy hidden hidden. Be done with it. Like close the case where good. We got the kid that we don't like any way. Yeah now we can finally put them down on something. We're we're dealing with three kids that live trailer parks. Nobody's gonna ask questions about a thrown in jail will get everybody off our backs it it. I mean we can make it look like they did it now. I don't know if i necessarily necessarily believe that these cops did that. You know what i mean. Because that's that's like a different level of corruption. Right i i. I'm with you a little bit here. And i'll tell you kind of very briefly. What i think their their motive here was. I think that they got. They got trapped. I think that early on they pinpoint pinpointed. These kids. it was a very high profile case. And i think any mistake or misstep was going to be analysed to death and i think what they did. Was they pinpointed on these kids. They got laser line focused on him and any disruption to that would have made them look bad in the face of national news. And i i really..

"See say five star prospect originally in the class two thousand twenty one, but now I'm class. Two Thousand Twenty announced this afternoon that he is committed to the University of Memphis. Pippen Hardaway's Tigers over offers from Georgetown Georgia. Florida State Lsu and Kentucky for those unfamiliar. I guess you can on some level. Call him a quote local product because he did spend the past year at Lausanne collegiate school, which is seven miles from the Memphis. MEMPHIS campus, but he's not really a local product. He was born in West. Africa moved to New York, in two thousand, fifteen played at Saint Benedict's prep in New Jersey played at Christ King in New York, then relocated a Memphis, the plate laws and this past season led the links to a state title, one Mr Basketball and the state of Tennessee average eighteen point, four points, fifteen point, three rebounds, and a ridiculous nine point two blocks per game, and now we have college basketball season. He says he'll play for the Memphis Tigers. norlander break it down. What do you make a penny? Hardaway lending a five star center in two straight recruiting classes last time. It was James Wiseman this time Mussa. Break it down Oh. Yeah, here's what I got a question for you I. Mean Here's here's was Gary Perez? Is tweet on Wednesday afternoon breaking all caps course. This was an all caps breaking the way I don't i. You know what expected to go to Memphis. I. Don't know if all caps was warranted there. Can you take me inside the thought process versus not in a? Regular grammar versus going all caps in that moment, please. Young Mussa say follows exactly ten people on twitter. I am one of them, and so I wanted to make sure he he saw how much emphasis I put on his commitment. How do I just know that two four six years from now if and when Lucy say is? Able to earn a consistent NBA paycheck, and perhaps it's even a player of of importance in the NBA. <hes> Gary Parrish will never ever ever forget or forget to remind people that there was one point in time and Mussa CCA followed ten people on twitter. And he was one of them. I honestly don't even understand it. Because like he used to follow a lot of people on twitter, I noticed and. One of them was not me, and then suddenly he cut almost everybody, but added me I don't really even know the connection there, but. I want I knew he'd see the tweet. And once I knew each the tweet I wanted to I wanted him to experience in all. Caps tweet obviously as as faithful podcast, listeners will know. Also one Moussa, see say. was tutored by your own son so I think. That might also be an influence. Parish working behind the scenes to get it done for Memphis. You've gotta admire actually ironically enough this happening in a week where parish is not on his local radio show. The conspiracy only strengthens. Okay, so here's what here's my question for you. <hes> you say the six eleven likely one and done talent averaged. Eighteen point four points, fifteen point, three rebounds and nine point two blocks last season pick memphis over Georgetown. Tom Kriens Georgia bulldogs Kentucky and Lsu. My question is. Who the hell is this guy planning? Nine point two blocks a game what? I have not I have. It's private school basketball in the state of Tennessee so? Took it over people who look like my oldest son in some cases like the blogging. What after another like I don't know I never been to a laws and basketball game and I've never even actually met. Say although it is true, my son and Mussa. Were classmates in my son to tutor him in in certain classes I. I don't even know if say knows that. My son is his classmate. He might, but I don't know that I've never I've never even had a real conversation about Mussa with my son. Other than so, what kind of young man is he and was like really nice? Really Really Nice guy like you know doesn't walk around like some big time. Basketball player I the only other times. I would talk to myself about Moses. Like Hey, did you see that dunk? That was on instagram last night or something like that? Because like fans are crazy, and at one point, the two schools involved in the Memphis in. RECRUITMENT MOST HEAVILY WE'RE MEMPHIS IN KENTUCKY and I'm like it doesn't matter what happens I. will somebody connected to one of those fan? Bases will blame me for it if HE GOES TO MEMPHIS, Kentucky fans it'd be because I pushed into Memphis somehow through my son, and if he goes to Kentucky Memphis fans, it'd be like <hes> see parish eight says all the modern salads like I'm not even getting involved. The only time my son had ever been asked about Mussa as recruitment. That I witnessed was one of my friends recently asked him when they were over at the house, and my son's answer was he always talked about? Georgetown but I don't think he's going to go to Georgetown and that was the extent of it. So he was right. Maybe my son's got a future and being a recruiting analyst, right?

"You for joining us to the second hour of Memphis morning news goodness gracious me thank you for joining us for radio today as we are here on Good Friday and not great to be here with you today and we have we should appreciate you I tag along for the ride and that we've got plenty of updates for you we're not gonna do the cable news networks saying where we got the data and infection and a death ticker up there the whole time trying to scare the stew out of you we'll give you some facts of what's going on what's happening in the community we got some other news to talk about as well so we're we're we're gonna roll around long we're gonna get through this together we'll get through some of the news it's a little hard to swallow but we're gonna move on from that we're not going to dwell on it we're not here the spread misery fear anxiety we're we're here because we're gonna get you ready for the day and we're all gonna have a good day today whether we like it or not so my mom used to tell me all right let's talk about the the corona virus here in the mid south we will give you the numbers here off of the top and you've got some other news here as well in the state of Tennessee four thousand six hundred thirty four positive test at this time in Shelby County now where it has topped one thousand positive test in the in the county by the way out of those four thousand six hundred and thirty four positive tests that's out of almost sixty thousand total tests over fifty five thousand have tested negative now in the state of Tennessee let's talk about it I I some of the the counties the numbers in the counties for a the positive tests here within the state he in in Fayette County in Tennessee those numbers at twenty five positives tutored in fifty three negatives in Shelby County one thousand six positive tests four thousand seven hundred and twenty seven negatives listing twenty fatalities at this time and then in Tipton county thirty nine test three hundred and after hearing that CD thirty nine positive three hundred seventy negatives so almost a ten to one ratio of no two ES on those in Mississippi in the state of Mississippi two thousand two hundred and sixty cases one hundred and fifty of those positive tests are in desoto county twenty six in Lafayette there in the Oxford area twenty one in Pinellas county nineteen and Tate forty one in Tampa seventeen in tunica county was seventy six fatalities in the state over Alton and ninety four in the Tennessee in Arkansas one thousand one hundred forty six positive tests for the corona virus seventy seven of those in Crittenden county but again as you've heard them admits they use these numbers loosely when it comes to fatalities and that if somebody was let's say for instance if somebody was was killed in a burglary and then in the autopsy there they find out that they had corona virus it's listed on the desktop get that they've got coronaviruses considered a corona virus related deaths so take that for what it's worth let's take a moment yesterday president trump addressed the media for his daily briefing regarding the corona virus the task force and and some of the things that are going on let's check in and take a moment to listen to some of the snippets from yesterday with president trump we passed a two million test completed in the United States first time most anywhere in the country it's a milestone for our country is a milestone anywhere nobody's done anywhere close or suggest a highly sophisticated and highly accurate not only as the virus inflicted immense physical suffering that many people but also mental and emotional suffering as well even though we're staying physically apart no American is alone and we're all in this together the deal is different from the standpoint that production will be lower but we have a deal was a sign deal it's a deal that say that one of the worst deals that we've ever had was after one of the worst trade deals ever made by any country anywhere will be terminating that and the new deal is a great deal for our country Boris Johnson prime minister has been moved out of intensive care that's a tremendous statement and we continue to pray for him and his fast recovery that's a very very positive development as president trump from yesterday some notes about how things have been going on we've got one other quick snippet from him as well and this is regarding hydroxy chloride you know what Cllr o'quinn hydroxy Karoq when that's I think that's what it is anyway he announces that companies producing the anti malaria drugs he's been promoting as a treatment for crying of ours are speeding up production here's a snippet on that the companies that manufacture hydroxy Clark when are massively ramping up production as you know many people are recommending strongly Zee pac be added the Z. pack and also zinc and the federal government continues to build our stockpiles and distributed millions of doses for doctors to use as they see fit president goes on to say states like Michigan will receive large quantities of the drugs very soon Memphis.

A. heart away says you know wants with all of that road rage that was going down last year you know we had about three dozen of highway or interstate shooting see said you know what it's time to get a key got to got to toughen up got to toughen up the game for sure and try to have some stricter laws on the books because apparently some of the gang members had been shooting no will some of the loopholes in the law were able to get really off with just some probation which is a which is a wow it seems like if you're gonna do that that seems like that does not fit the crime J. hardly says it's essentially domestic terrorism what's going on on our roadways with the way that people are a firing their weapons the way they did last year member we had operation grizzly bear dial with the Shelby County sheriff's office the Tennessee highway patrol involves trying to help out but it seems to no avail still have plenty of shootings last year it did seem to slow it down at least for a little bit but if you are member that was about the time that Ben Ferguson started doing his heinous crime report every week day right off the top of the show it for clock man oh man yeah G. A. heart away definitely is he he's definitely try to take a step then in a little bit of a direction where folks can maybe feel a little bit safer on the roadways yeah we'll see if that passes there I think that's gonna get bipartisan support though where it would upgrade some of the punishments for folks that would commit these crimes I mean you had truck drivers getting shot acts just Hey you basically vehicles of all shapes and sizes I don't know if it was some part of initiation offers mistaken identity I think some of us just just just pure I can get away with it for the thrill of it it's amazing what people will there the lack of respect incredible incredible man oh man not this morning news it is seven twenty seven twenty one and we have we have about a minute or so let's go to the phone line this morning and say good morning to our friend Mr engine parts in your hands how are you Hey good morning this is a hello well it sounded like Andrew but that is not injured we will put them on hold will talk to them coming up at the break for sure coming up a little bit later on we got on this day in history we've also got Jeff right well coming up at seven thirty five we've got Abin brown coming up at seven forty five on Memphis morning news and we're looking for two I have in a conversation window all of them and that should be coming up quite soon right here on this very radio station hot we got thirty eight degrees are gonna get up to around fifty a little bit later on with a little bit of rain fall out there and yeah we'll have that full forecast coming up in just a moment right here on six hundred W. "Memphis morning news it is six forty six and we have a temperature of forty degrees we have to fifty live it later on today my only talk about some of the night eight o'clock taking on two lane pre game will be at seven o'clock and we can't wait to get back on the basketball courts not Tigers eleven in one search engine from the court too I guess the Kocsis we're just weeks away from Iowa caucuses joining us this morning author founders revolution in political analysts Michael law joining us one last time here in twenty nineteen and then I guess it's game on for twenty twenty but for the Democrats you know it seems like there's a big question mark right now what's going on Michael good morning good morning to you for having me great to have you back on yeah what's what is going on that really is that is the question I mean you have too many candidates in the rain and none of them none of a more exact great so I think it's going to be Hey we're going to really understand where hall the candidates are at not in not in the next month or so but in the next really in the next three months since we have three fourths of the delegates that will be awarded awarded by the end of March and if there isn't I think if there isn't clear front runner fight then we may very well see a brokered convention that would be that would be pretty interesting that bring some interest to it is it you know I see the S. N. Biden still up there course Sanders and Warren for some reason in my gut it just feels like this could be a redo of twenty sixteen where they just throw all the super delegates to Biden and Bernie Sanders is like okay but what yeah Bernie Sanders all went down that road before and he was not thrilled with that so I think you would actually see a little bit more of a fight than just at this time around the new with the that you did last time around he's speaking against the Clinton machine he didn't have much choice there but by that might be a little bit different however either one of those two choices the they're currently at the top who would be would be a disaster for the Democrats the I don't I really don't think that either one of those has any kind of a tense against president trump particularly with Sanders being have socialistic if he is and that doesn't sit well I think with a lot of Democrats blue dog Democrats and of course with the biting you're gonna see trump tear him apart to especially with hunter Biden and and that this whole impeachment thing that went on over the last mantra that those would be the worst choice of the bank and it really is interesting that it could come down to a a a brokered convention at this point because it it does not from the surface seem like that there is one candidate that could be trump I mean heck two hundred and thirty people in the house of representatives can't beat trump so how are they gonna find one at this particular time it is an interesting dilemma for them yeah and and and one that nobody is really talking about yet and I I think actually you would stand the best chance in the regular vote is actually Michael Bloomberg not simply because he has the finances and the ability to can make it and and enough name recognition and he has of course of Bloomberg news that he can used to benefit to help him to win but I don't know if the Democrats so much like him but and my opinion I think he would be the best choice against president trump up there looking for somebody who could possibly be president trump Michael long joining us on Memphis morning news course almost kind of quiet up on Capitol Hill right now just simply because they're in recess for another week or so but it your gut feeling I would suspect would be that they're a impeachments not gonna get fast track no I don't think so pulls it doesn't want to do anything with impeachment because she knows the outcome like they did in the in the house and that outcome she should already know but she doesn't want to throw her hat in the ring as far as playing the game until she knows that she can win and that's never gonna happen yeah yeah so it's a I I can't believe twenty twenties actually here we've been talking about it for top three and a half years in twenty twenty comes in less than forty eight hours Michael we wish you know your friends and family a very happy new year and look forward to getting more of your insight to as things really get for real here in the coming months thanks so much again Michael you're welcome have a happy new year and let's hope twenty twenty is a year of more for you then I hear yeah absolutely met this morning news it.

S. city ordinance requiring white and black residential areas in Baltimore still just I know I'm not naive it just still just blows my mind and I know it was it I know times have changed and often times for the better but it's just still I just a weird me out and it's just so wrong all right on this date in nineteen nineteen the American meteorological society was founded so whether folks I guess rejoice at that the state in nineteen forty one Adolf Hitler takes complete command of the German army also the US office of censorship is created to control information pertaining to World War two on that very same day wow also on this date in nineteen fifty eight we skip ahead just a bit here on this date first radio broadcast from space as president Dwight D. Eisenhower's Christmas message to all mankind America's wish for peace on earth and good will to men everywhere on this date in nineteen fifty nine the first liberty bowl game ever expense state beats Alabama seven to nothing no Nick seven was not the coach then also on this date in nineteen seventy four got it the man with the golden gun it's the knife James Bond film starring Roger Moore Britt Ekland and Christopher Lee a premieres in London on this very same day one year later John Paul Stevens becomes the US Supreme Court justice but maybe pop culture wise just as big Ron wood joins the rolling stones in the state in nineteen seventy five on December nineteenth in nineteen eighty six the also platoon directed by Oliver Stone is starring Tom Berenger Willem Dafoe and a very young Charlie Sheen is released it makes Best Picture from the Academy Awards of nineteen eighty seven also on December nineteenth in nineteen ninety one Boris Yeltsin takes control of the Kremlin but probably more importantly if the six thousandth episode of one life to live on ABC yeah I also Nancy nineteen where we on one more nineteen ninety one is that it now nineteen ninety eight one more item the US house of representatives votes to impeach president Bill Clinton fording the articles of impeachment to the Senate for a trial and there you have it on this day in history December the nineteenth two thousand nineteen all right let's talk about those local headlines I mentioned a few moments ago according to Attorney General William Barr as part of a seventy million dollar block of money to come back crime Memphis will be getting a share of that seventy million dollars he made this announcement yesterday in Detroit as part of operation relentless pursuit bar was in Memphis last month on another project apparently has an affinity for Memphis and trying to help the city here part of this according to local officials yes that they are looking to use the S. to reassign a number of federal special agents to certain cities as well as building up task forces through collaborative efforts with state and other law enforcement partners there's no word exactly on how the money will be divided but they're hoping to increase staffing at the sheriff's office and with the Memphis police department course Memphis according to William Barr said quote in Memphis it's the second most violent city in the country with the violent crime rate five times the national average our guest in about six minutes will tell you all about that too because every day he kicks off his short for clock with the heinous crime report talking about all the violence in the city of Memphis been Ferguson will join us in about six minutes right here on this very radio station let's talk about some other news it's not all about crime okay well maybe it is a local nurse going to fox thirteen was busted stealing from the hospital where she worked Bailey Solomon I worked at Methodist low Bonner as a registered nurse I July audit revealed that someone stole drugs from work and even use the medication while she was on the clock in an email to the hospital someone said to her clinical director after her license was suspended quote I can't believe I allowed a drug addiction to surface and screw up my future going to fox thirteen they found some records showed in a two week period solving had one hundred and thirty instances where the administration waste and waste of controlled substances were not documented properly that includes twenty one different medications and a total of four hundred and sixty one individual items such as pills or surrender syringes according to the records found a fox thirteen looking in Tennessee Mississippi and Arkansas hundred fourteen nurses had their license either revoked or suspended after they tested positive for narcotics admitted to being addicted or were punished for mishandling narcotics our license you currently is suspended enter multi state privilege to practice in any other state is the activated so they don't allow the what do they call that when you can practice another reciprocation you can't yeah she can't do it in another state but you know that temptation is there when you're with with drugs I mean I can see that if somebody has a propensity for that maybe doesn't even know what but then it happens in Germantown a nineteen year old has been arrested for stealing keys out of the locker Germantown athletic club and then stealing the car was found around town a little bit later on and they arrested a nineteen year old in that case it didn't take too long but he did get busted coming up we got been Ferguson on the show we're gonna talk about some local and some national issues on security has a take regarding the increase employment about city council on trash and also on your utilities will talk to him about that we'll talk about impeachment of course again top story two articles of impeachment passed in the house representatives essentially on party lines you did have a few Democrats defect to vote against impeachment and now we'll wait a Senate trial.

"Memphis morning news it is seven forty five we got a temperature of thirty four a wind chill of twenty four it is at a little bit of flurry activity out there as well no surprise a high temperature only thirty nine for today city council will meet today and the term if they're going to add seven or eight Bucks a month trash feed to keep from letting go up to three hundred employees and limiting your trash to basically one pick up per month and also you may be experiencing a rate hike from emoji W. soon incremental increases on the different services which would be spread out until twenty twenty two sh man man oh man it is a it's a could be a time where you get them separated for more money in your wallet we'll talk to give Khan right about that tomorrow following the city council meeting today which would be a little bit later on also in the news by the way Grizzlies when again last night they moved to ten and seventeen pick up a win over the Miami Heat and they are a just a couple of games out of the last playoff spot at this point twenty seven games in about a third of the way through the season and I know that their ten and seventeen but they're a couple games they probably could have won and just lost late in the fourth quarter it's not a bad grizzly steam not bad at all also in the news a house fire in Memphis in Cooper young area this is caused by lightning strike yesterday morning over Peabody near Cooper several thousand dollars of damage that's a strong storm tornado damage and counted cross parts of Mississippi Alabama we did not catch the brunt of that yesterday thankfully all right joining us now is the host the been Ferguson showed catching every weekday at four o'clock right here well then I guess tomorrow old breathlessly awaiting air the nation will be for the articles of impeachment and whatever else they're going to be going on I know the the house Judiciary Committee just finished up on I guess whatever rules they're going to go over yeah it's going to be the rest the rest impeachment and that's exactly what the plan is there going to hurry up and do this go and check every box that along the way and make sure that the members of the Democratic Party don't have the option to leave town without impeaching the president then they can you know make sure that they don't have more people to fact and not present in the new polls are out it's a big swing in there was a poll simple the came out so Levin point swing and the last two weeks of people that were in favor of impeachment you are no longer in favor of impeachment are among independent it's four and a half points overall nationwide but in swing states the numbers are significant in swing states and so I think what you're saying now is Democrats realize they made a mistake and their chart hurry up and see the mistake through I guess to put it behind them so that may be it's forgotten in time for the twenty twenty election is that the font no because it looked when you've got a big civil war this growing within the Democratic Party right now and that is look Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer and Jerry Nadler and Steve Cohen for example these types of Democrats they are in districts where they're not having to worry about losing their job because of impeachment what the problem is and and it seems like in leadership the only one that really realized this is Nancy Pelosi but she also wants to make sure that she stops because I house she is is trying to figure out how do you do this without losing these other member these other people like I said they don't care I mean you know if you impeach Donald Trump it's a personal you know then data for Steve Cohen he hates him you hate him since day one anyone to stick it to the man he's in a district where you can do are irresponsible partisan hack relax yes or a cute you know which is what this really is literally overthrowing the will the people because what his mentality is I don't care about trump's orders because I don't represent the misty color does not represent you if you're concerned that if he doesn't listen to you if you're a Republican he doesn't listen to you if you voted for Donald Trump so he doesn't care that he alienates you because in his district he can do that what with the Democrats have done those and lefties other Democrats literally let them hang out to dry and it's it's pretty pathetic then Ferguson joining us on the show this morning and I guess they're supposed to be a Democrat debate Thursday night but I was talking with tiny J. powers a few moments ago and that may not even go down due to a worker strike there in the area yeah which is in that ironic yes don't you thank I mean it's it's hysterical those strike would make you not have a debate it would be an embarrassment but it's a match and if this happened in a Republican debate it would be wall to wall news coverage I'm sure the Democrats will you know just kind of in the media will just kind of overshadow it and do the bare minimum reporting act like it never happened yeah Ben Ferguson joining us on the on the program what else you gonna be touching on look at later on today yeah I think we'll be talking about this the politics of these poll numbers are errors interesting that come out while this talk about that one of the crime report as well as for Clark with some of the crimes committed in which you get it on this really cool weather as well all right then all right get a few flurries this morning thanks for getting up and have a Cup of coffee with us and we will look for this afternoon at four o'clock presaging thanks for the truck you're saying I mean there's been version follow him had been Ferguson show right here on six hundred W. R. C. in ninety two point one FM get him on Twitter and die you can be up to date Oct city council meeting today will find out a little bit more on potential hikes on trash and also light gas and water tiger basketball this Saturday at noon that's the tipoff against Jackson state at FedEx forum the pre game will be at eleven we'll have it right here on the home of your tiger seven fifty two thirty four degrees and some flurries here's traffic with heather good morning right now it's still a delayed due to an earlier right how much about two forty just east.

"At seven thirty two right here on Memphis morning news it's six thirty five let's turn our attention to. well let's turn our attention on maybe having a little more time to ourselves joining us this morning is specialist on data privacy doctor Edward Peters doctor Peters thank you for joining me in Memphis how are you. why are you doing I'm sure rific at least once or twice a day I get a text. ed front and it looks like I don't know is it called a robo taxed at the from from something or somebody telling me I have won something or they have a great deal for me and it is annoying as all get out it just happens happens at all hours of the day. yes one forty we're all victims of these these days these are actually called believe it or not Beijing as opposed to fishing which were fraudulent emails sent out to try to get your information. change is actually the same concept but by messages and and many times I mean this is really just another form of cyber fraud okay now. how did they do they get our numbers the same way as spammers. our miserable callers. they do the same way you know anytime that you entered it someplace you could have entered it for a lottery online or given your number out or something they get it from there and then that wallet the legal they will use that to try to rob basically scan your information all right and I would assume that some money play either trying to get us to hand over information directly or to see as you said scams out of information to somehow sell that data I guess to somewhere else. yes all photos and the most dangerous ones are the ones that tell you there's been a problem with an account and you need to check right now to someplace and then once if you do that then of course you've now entered the game and they will start asking you for more information and try to get you to actually do something or give them access to an account we'll buy they can start to either don't you know download money from your account or or anything of that nature so it's it's a very serious situation so it's more than just an annoyance it can snowball pretty quickly are are there any remedies is there anything we can do other than simply ignore and I guess another part of the question is are the are the big cell phone companies are they aware of this and then can they do anything. what makes yeah as a matter of fact the best thing you can do is. first of all never reply. secondly if you actually copy that and forward it to seven seven two six which is out which is a free of charge you know spam reporting live from that all the major carriers. the next thing you could do is actually reported to the FTC themselves if you go to the website the F. T. C. complaint is that all of that will will help you start to. build the case to get rid of these things and now there are legitimate cases where you may have signed up for that a baby at your up for an account that you waste with your bank or maybe it's something where they Bob your pharmacy where you're going to get you know notifications about Medicaid today well and the key is to really understand which one do you decided to allow.

"Of Memphis a school he had no plans to attend but allowed him to go through the tour without any pressure he was able to ask questions as they came to him to see things that interested him and that experience eventually helped him to be better prepared and also as well for the ten colleges that we visited with him so yeah this is a great example of again bring it back to trying just really have some fun with it as well. since the school so that. lower the pressure our next emails from Tom listen to us in Vancouver he's asking why do some cruise lines and tour operators charges supplemental for solo travel I'm single and can't always ask a friend to travel with me to help you save money is there a way around this unfair policy well Tom merry and I have some thoughts on this and we also asked our producer Valerie to look into it a merry where you wanna start well she did a great job helping us research this I know you really can't get around get around it if you see it and it exists however what you can do a solo demographic is much of a solo traveller demographic is much larger these days it's a lot easier travel companies have gotten on board with enticing solo travelers and that market so you'll find cruise companies that will waive that single supplement fee you'll find tour companies willing to waive that you know you have to do your research sometimes you have to be willing to travel kind of last minute you may have to be willing to travel shoulder season if you can only travel in the summer and you want to get around that you definitely have to do your research but it is possible more and more today travel companies are beginning to really anti so what I I know. they certainly want to attract a saloon travelers we talk about that but some other companies out there that are not affiliated with the intrepid travels one classic journeys another we've had Bruce Poon tip on with G. adventures they do a nice job with it I can take it now that's going to be for a younger audience but I think you might be somebody will yeah intrepid has a lot of solo travelers and again you may pay with them sometimes a single supplement fee but much lower fees they have and if you're willing to have a roommate you don't pay anything on the older side our country walkers will be another crazy thing extractions so you don't have a roommate yeah we've got more emails I think we're gonna hold those will do more next week folks of please keep sending them to us at our end world travel dot com and we will get to those are for sure right now I want to thank Tom and Lisa further questions today you can send us your travel questions or comments or stories.

"Associate editor of the Memphis business journal, our friend Megan Nichols. Megan. Thanks for joining us. How are you? A hope you are thawing out like the rest of us doing well. Good morning guys. Yeah. It's great to have you back on the program. Okay. Big announcement from Electrolux that seems to be making all the headlines what's going on with Electrolux? Yeah. So this is certainly the big headline. Yesterday was news that the Electrolux Memphis plan is going to be closing in twenty twenty so at its peak plant employed more than a thousand people currently has about five hundred and thirty employees locally, but the company is apparently consolidating its cooking products appliances business to Springfield, Tennessee. And it's going to be reinvesting in that plant Electrolux has previously stated how about ten percent of its North America revenue came from a Sears, essentially, so Sears bankruptcy has certainly had a negative impact. But Electrolux received a significant amount of incentives for its Memphis facility. So still lots of questions that need to be answered. But there were apparently not clawback provision for those incentives. So currently the state in Shelby county remain on the hook for a lot of that original investment to get them here. Now, meghan. I know what a clawback is. But for those that may not know in our audience. What does it clawback when it comes to a pilot? So essentially, it's if they were to leave before the pilot wants to expire, there'd be some provision where the incentives, and they might have to pay back where they then send it to be called off. So you kind of it's a safety net for our investment. But that was not in that contract. No, we're going to have to wait and see on this one. Oh, I wonder if that was a cut and paste wonder about that Meghan Nichols associated or the Memphis business journal joining us this morning. Other big company news FedEx retirement age. I changed their. Yes. So there's two kind of things that came from the board of directors this week with FedEx, I other notable news was Dave bronze Accu the president CEO. Fedex just was elected to the company's board of directors. So that decision is effective immediately. But the board also announced changes to the company's corporate government guidelines so previously. There was a mandatory retirement age for seventy five years old now that age requirement only applies to nonmanagement directors. Fred Smith is currently seventy four years old. So that's the adjustment in that rule. It'd be yeah. It'd be kind of weird to boot the founder of the company. Yeah. Meghan Clark tower getting a new tenant. Yeah.
