"Ant man and the wasp quantumania maintains its lead at the box office this weekend, even as interest in the movie dropped dramatically. I'm Archie's our letter with the latest. Second chances don't come around all that much. The ant man sequel made $32.2 million in its second weekend of release, but its box office take dropped nearly 70% from last week. It's gotten some of the worst reviews and audience scores for a Marvel Cinematic Universe film. Cocaine bear made $23.1 million in comes in second.

And that was something that marked down to not secure way. It's a much better firewall thing. "My train and thought there. So we saw the movie and as it turns out, I didn't even notice that it was three hours. Like my husband and I we knew going in, we were dreading it too. We were like three hours. We're gonna die. Like this is not gonna. This isn't gonna go well. We're gonna have to break this up. Like there needs to be. I was like, I hope there's an intermission because I'm a neat one. They didn't have an intermission. There was no intermission. It just played straight through all three hours. Again, no one took my suggestions into consideration. It's fine. No one cares. But we made it through and it did not feel like three hours. I remember that feeling. I remember not feeling like I was like, that was three hours. Sure enough, we looked at the time it was like 7 o'clock by the time we got out of the movie theater. Yeah, I mean, it was that good. Of course I cried. Of course I cried. Even my husband was like, I got a little bacteria. It's like, yeah. He was like, I saw you. I was like, I heard you. It was great. So we got with the whole thing. The whole thing we just got like, we got teary eyed, we were screaming, we shouted, we booed, we laughed, we did, and it was a true we. And that's one of the things that I love so much about the nerd community, especially the MCU nerd community. Is we all did it together. We all did it together. We were all crying at the same time. We were all laughing at the same points. We were all cheering at the same time. It was this beautiful collective experience. Really, with people from around the world, like just everybody collectively sharing this experience and all having the same reactions and laughing and joking and cheering. And it's just it's like, this is what life is about right here. This is it. This is this is the apex. If somebody were to try to.

"In that in that time period and I just I kind of needed something to like anchor me again. And once I found the MCU, it was like, I do remember this feeling. I remember this feeling, I remember that I love this feeling. I remember the community being amazing. I remember feeling very like at home in this community and within this, just like overwhelmingly. Diverse and comforting and just exciting and like electric community with that's the feeling that I got when, you know, like it's the nerd feeling, that's the nerd feeling that I get from that community and I love it. The Shire, the shires, my home, Narnia is my home. The MCU is my home now too. Like those are the places for me that I feel the most at home in. And so it kind of came into my life at like the best possible time. I needed I didn't know that I needed the MCU to kind of help pull me out of this. Out of sort of the darker place that I was in, but I did. I needed the MCU. And it didn't really need me, but I needed it. And so I did what I do. And I rediscovered my love of being a nerd and a geek. And just like re fell in love with being a nerd and a geek again. And so by the time and so then, you know, by the time infinity war came out, I was so pumped. I was so pumped and I was so excited and my husband knew and it was great. And so we went and we saw infinity war on my birthday and it was really great. And then we had to wait a whole fucking year..

"In a place where I needed to find something like that again. I needed to find some form of escapism for myself that was like positive and healthy. No, that's not to say that my entire relationship with the MCU is a healthy one particularly. It could be considered toxic at some points. I'm not going to lie. But on a hole, I would say it's a pretty, there are much more destructive ways. And forms of escapism that one could have. And I feel like the MC just sort of completely immersing herself within the MCU and the Marvel Cinematic Universe is on a whole, one of the healthier choices to make. So. "The time Avengers Infinity War came out, I was completely caught up. I was like, a 100% caught up completely. And I ended up so I didn't realize that there was a rhyme or reason as to why they released certain films out when they do. And there is they do have a rhyme like they do, so there's always one that comes out around my birthday and it just like infinity war came out on my birthday, like the day of my birthday infinity war came out. And then endgame came out the day after my birthday. And that was always kind of once I realized that there was sort of that rhyme or reason and I realized that it came out on or around my birthday, kind of the same times every year. I it was like even better. It just like, it just it was like, you know, the sprinkles on top of the Sunday kind of a thing. It was just like, this is so cool because it really does feel like we're all having this collective experience together. And it just happens to be around my birthday, so it always kind of like. It just kind of makes my birthday a little bit more special for me because it's like this collective shared experience that I get to have with a whole bunch of fans of something that I'm also a fan of, and it's really, really cool. I just, it just makes me really happy and it's like one of those things where it's like I always look forward to that part of the year because I know that I'm going to get some new sort of MCU thing and I really enjoy it. "Like, blown away. Just like, it was visually stunning. It was. The soundtrack was amazing. I loved the soundtrack. I'm big into movie soundtracks and film soundtracks. But yeah, I just remember being like blown away and being like, oh my gosh, I need to know everything. And because I kind of came in during Doctor Strange, it was a little bit like a stand-alone movie. So if you haven't seen Doctor Strange, it's kind of like its own stand-alone movie where there aren't a lot of you don't necessarily really need to know the backstory of everybody in order to get what's happening and Doctor Strange. Which I got really lucky with that because I had no idea. I did not. I was like, I don't know what this is. I don't know what's going on. What's happening? As far as the overall MCU is concerned, and so I think Doctor Strange was a really good sort of jumping back end point for me. Because you didn't have to know, you know, like all the stuff. In order to get what was going on in the film, which I really appreciated. But of course, because.

So my relationship with Avengers Endgame, I think, really, I have to start with my relationship with the MCU. And so just a little bit of background on my relationship with the MCU before we get into Avengers Endgame. I remember seeing Iron Man in the theaters. I remember seeing Iron Man in the theaters, and then I don't really remember much else after that. I didn't like keep up with it. I was like, my fascination was with books that had come to life. So like my journey with the comics and the MCU was pretty short lived, I really liked Iron Man. I thought it was really good. I really liked RDJ as Iron Man, I just got focused on other things like with school and those kinds of things. I don't remember how old I was when Iron Man came out. But yeah, I remember, I just remember seeing it in the theaters. And so it just kind of dropped off. I didn't really keep up with it. I was more into The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. Obviously, the Harry Potter series and movies. Those kinds of things. But I feel like I did. See of The Avengers movie? I don't think it was in theaters. I think it was like on one of those. Like TM not TMZ, oh.

A Review of the Newest Addition to the MCU: Black Widow
"I mean, the Marvel universe. Fans have been waiting for this for months and months and months, and now it's available. In theaters, and it's also on Disney plus so that you can see it there as well. It's going to be the apparently the only black widow films since Scarlett Johansson's character actually died in adventures and came this story has said a little before that. And she goes back to Eastern Europe in order to track down and ruined the great Russian spymaster who made her into a spy in the first place. And she also reunites with her fake family with which you were who she was an undercover spy in the United States in the 19 nineties in order to bring this fellow down, so it's a combination of family drama. Shall we say? With a big action, splashy action movie. I found the intimate moments in this film actually better than the action ones, which are in the typical modern way over cuts so that you can't really tell what's going on a lot of time and just overloaded with C G I the real star of the film, Although Johansson is very good is Florence Pugh. Who plays her younger, so called sister. They were sisters when they were undercover spies, and they unite along with their father and mother in order to bring down this terrible Russian mastermind who still wants to dominate the world with his army of brainwashed young women called widows. Uh, the people who Fans of the far Marvel universe are going to love this film. They're going to go out to it in droves. They're going to pay for it and dizzy. Plus, it's going to be a huge success. But it's really a kind of footnote to the series as a whole. It doesn't advance the overall marble saga very much. And as I say, it's probably a one off for Scarlett Johansson's Who cares whose character unless she miraculously comes to life will have to remain dead after this episode. "I wanna talk about something that we brushed that with their we briefly talked about. But that didn't makes a lot of sense in this which is low keys being confirmed as bisexual in this episode is. It's very Matter of factly done but it is a huge huge moment in the history of the mcu on. There was something that happened earlier. This week was nfl player. Named carl nassif. That came out as gay. And what struck me about. That was that this was a player that was already in the league and they had already had success. So this wasn't somebody that had retired or this wasn't someone that had that we're just getting to know. This is a guy who has proven himself to be a good nfl player Has a thirty million dollar contract and it just changes things because that leads that changes the world that lets people know that. I don't know if you didn't think that there were other gay players in the nfl right now. A lot of guys right there who are trying to find reasons. Not reasons are ways to live there truth almost kind of the same thing with low key in a way because lucky is a character not a new cancer that they're introducing that you really don't know that well not a character that afterwards. We're speculating now that they're not in the mcu anymore. You know what i mean. It's a character that we've known and loved and been around for ten plus years. Yeah i think almost thirteen at this thirteen right because he came in the first store. Ten plus years. Who is now is has has confirmed that he is bisexual that he is clear. "I'd be really curious to get an authentic answer from fi at all like what the thinking was there because with taika for example was a smaller director heading into you know of a smaller status heading into thor right but as someone who had watched those movies you knew there was like incredible energy and humor that could potentially work and then it and then it did and then some i. I'm fascinated to see what this movie is going to be I'm i'm hopeful it still. It remains honestly a great. mcu pick. Because i just i might journals. Knowledge is so limited in the amount of turtles reading that like ninety. Eight percent of moral fans have done is so light that it just feels like one of those rare untapped franchises Which honestly makes it a lot. more appealing. the there's less baggage. There's less to dig into. So i'm surprised i guess i'll say this. I'm surprised the trailer didn't do the obvious. Hey thanos remember him. Here are some people who are related thing. I'm surprised it didn't it. Didn't set that up. Yeah yeah it didn't set any. I mean like at the very end. There's the one little link wink at like them. Mentioning the avengers. And it's like okay. They have to prove themselves. Just overall they can still exist posts. Captain america. thor iron man. You know well. I mean but yeah the they do. I mean endgame is a great jumping off point. It is because it is. It's a it's the rarest thing in the superhero style which is like it can be treated as an ending you accepting game as you're reading can be done and it's not a bad place like like desperately where my wife's at like she taught almost like 'cause she loves ragnarok for example and i was like oh like if there's a movie in that style or you know the next door like interested in that even and she's like not really like like i'm just done with marvel stuff which is fine like it. That's that's where people are at i. I do think there's there's a lot of the cynicism in the snark that comes it can kinda only exist again in a vacuum where the issue is in producing a lot. I don't really know if this is true. But it does feel like we are hitting just incredible saturation of superhero television movies. Right now and that. Black Widow to be released on Disney Plus and theatres simultaneously
"Had been or at least i had been anticipating the film black widow. Had you been anticipating black widow. I will watch it and try to enjoy it when i am able to like. I'm not against. I wouldn't say i'm vociferously pro either. I just. it's this world that i live in so we're going to be living in a black widow world not until july ninth. Because that's the new date for this film. However the film is not going directly to movie theaters. as we suspected it's going to disney plus premier access which means it probably will cost twenty nine ninety five to watch at home. It will also open and movie theaters but this is a pretty radical decision. Obviously the mcu is the surest bet in theatrical movie going so there was some some outcry about this there were some other also announcements around the disney movies late in the coming year. A bunch of movies pushed back. We also saw the crew. Ella is additionally arriving on may twenty eighth on disney plus this same premier access approach. What do you make of this This disney shift. I feel for the theaters and especially the smaller theatres who i think. Disney Plus Launches Star, A Streaming Outlet With More Grown-Up Fare
"Knew that star was launching february twenty third which recording this yesterday. I am in canada. So i have access to it along with australia. New zealand parts of europe in singapore. So a few countries have this new section on their disney plus app. And it's a big deal. It's a big deal for me. Because we get all the wes anderson movies. It's a big deal for some other people because they get like twenty four and richard devine from window. Central is tweeting about how much she loves. Twenty four and jack bowers back baby and all that so. I just wanted to talk about where we are in terms of streaming. I know disney or marvel disney made a big bunch of big announcement this morning On when the next set of mcu in star wars shows will be released on disney plus. And then there's all the other services right. There's hbo max there's peacock there's discovery plus there's Paramount plus. I guess if you want to call that new and all this leads to confusion for people who just want to find the show to watch. So let's start with disney. They now have ninety five million subscribers. They are doing really really well. In terms of expansion into new countries. This new star lodge is a big deal so give us the t. l. Dr if you will of why star launched now and why. It's a big deal for people outside the us lawyers. It's always the lawyers. Yeah i say why did it launch now because this is when they could finally agree on. Okay here's where the contracts in so we can pick things up. Yeah the the. The really oversimplified version is this in the united states. We have hulu and hulu has basically everything. That's not under the five pillars of disney plus in those disney star. Wars marvel pixar in national geographic. Anything outside of that. you what. You're forgetting well. I was gonna say you're forgetting the pillar of twentieth century fox and twentieth century fox which is on hulu so so virtually anything outside of those five pillars in the. Us will find on hulu yes. They're exceptions the problem is hulu is not anywhere in the rest of the world. It's a decidedly american phenomenon and so disney needed a way to get all this content to everybody else in pay by the way they get to charge a little more for it too and that became star the way they first announced it they do it. What other earnings calls last year It was a little like just weird. I didn't even fully understand it at the time and it took a little while to sink in and then the developer not developer days there investor days into simmer november december whenever that was explained. It a little better really. It's just that simple if it's if it's content you can probably find on hulu here in the us it's going to be on star everywhere else. So given that disney twentieth century fox. They bought a. They bought that from fox which was previously a shareholder in hulu disney is now the majority shareholder of hulu. Why can't they just bring hulu to the rest of the world. What is that. I mean i don't know the brand well who owns. Who is the issue there although disney now entirely owns who if i correct right they finish tying their last pieces of hulu like two years ago for for all intents and purposes and there might be somebody with a little sliver but it it's a disney joint partially owned by comcast but they're buying it slowly over the next few years right. Yeah that was an agreement that was made a couple of years ago but But that's why comcast is okay. All of our stuff is leaving hulu at this date because we will no longer have a share in it and it's all going to peacock But yeah the reason that who didn't exist in all these other countries was media streaming lauzon like entertainment and streaming laws vary by country by country. It takes a lot of money to get the rights to a decent amount of shows in places other than the us so it was a matter of hulu. Didn't really have the time or the or the money to spend on investing in trying to build up a catalog and other countries the only other country that hulu is in outside of the united states is japan. And i'm not sure how much longer is going to be there since they're probably going to roll it into star but it's disney had the clout to roll around the disney also already had rights to a lot of these things or the released they in contracts and have the rights back right so it's just easier to bring a new sub domain umbrella underneath disney plus put all the twentieth century fox content in there called star and make it a separate kind of expansion for everybody who already has disney plus. All star is disney. Plus for grownups. It's harder to always you know proper phones not anymore. But that's a. That's a good analogy. Yeah all right. So we we have star. It's got all the twentieth century fox stuff. I think it's got more than that. That's also where a lot of like. Abc television stuff ended up. It's also where a bunch of other like indie stuff that disney and fox had bought up over the years. Anything fox searchlight his ended up in there. That's why it's it's a huge a collection of content. I'm amazed that they were able to get the international rights for those together quickly. Enough for star for the international launches. So the question. I have is is disney. Plus going to host new content in star is that is this where they're going to compete with netflix and hbo for adult viewership or are they still kind of not really aiming at that audience. No actually. I think you've got that right in. It's going to get a little weird because contents can vary by country but you can see that a little bit in the in the Release lists you get you get stuff that is decidedly more adult in there and and part of that is just from the content. That's coming out of those houses in the first place. If you look at specifically fx stuff here it's called fx. Hulu it is it is. I don't know that. I'd go so far as to say it's r rated but it's pretty damn close. Fx is yeah fx is definitely not child-friendly content like ninety percent of it like isn't fx. Were archer lives yeah. Fx is is archer archer archers ethics original sort of But yeah we look at the. The new exclusive stuff like fx on hulu like depths. Was one. I loved last year. I thought it was excellent right up until the end and it went. A little off the rails. Mrs america was on there as well. I mean there's stuff that the you wouldn't even otherwise necessarily see on cable but that they're streaming in that fashion. lets them. do you know just a little more than they. otherwise would have And it's not something that you would see on disney plus so this gives them another conduit for that stuff as well. Yeah and the brand new original content is also going. It's going to vary by the audience category. 'cause like anything that's marvel or star wars is not going to be listed under the star brand period. If it belongs to one of those temples it's still going to be disney plus branded and everything starts going to have the both labels at the bottom whenever they're advertising it but it's a matter of if we're going to do original series if it's pg or if it's pg thirteen below it'll probably be disney plus branded and if it's not pg thirteen disney and pg thirteen and up will probably be star

Spiderman is back in the marvel cinematic universe at least for the foreseeable future in a surprise announcement today today from both Sony pictures and Walt Disney Studios the two announced that they have struck a new deal Kevin Feige to produce a third film in Spiderman Franchise that will be released on July sixteenth twenty twenty. One with Tom Holland back as Spiderman and on top of that the deal also includes an appearance France by spider man in a future marvel studios film though it has not been named specifically which movie that might be in the press release. "Yesterday. There was some public negotiating going on between two movie corporations. One of them is disney and one of them is sony. Amanda can't even she's like. She can't even look at this going. I do unfortunately okay. We've talked about spiderman quite a few times. Actually on this show and spider man was was the political football of the movie industry yesterday because sony owns the rights to make spiderman spiderman movies marvel has been helping them do so and generating a small profit and working closely with kevin feige who oversees marvel studios and as the most successful producer probably only in the history of hollywood if we're being honest and it seems that didn't even wait. Let's pause on that for one second here. We go about it. Okay never had remiss he's going to have so many achievement awards named after him. It's truly well. That's if we still have movies by the time we get to his age of having achievement awards with his name on it you said and it and it seems the kevin foggy at least for now will not be involved in making spiderman movies normal marvel. We've been overcome by technology technology in real life and now there is the perfect time to make the matrix four to retroactively fix the matrix two and three which could have been one very good movie rumor was i heard this this was back in the early two thousands that the animatrix and the matrix two and three it was supposed to be a trilogy but they wanted to do one before the matrix one after the matrix but because of the star wars. I don't know if this is true. Through warner brothers like no no no so they made the animatrix and then they split two and three into two movies but it should have just been one and that's why this movie's filled up loaded. I don't know if that's true but now they can fix that the matrix is more timely than ever keanu reeves is back in another hot streak carrying moscow's incredible and jessica jones. I love the idea of. I don't know why it's it's one which hausky but i love the idea of original crater coming back to a franchise that actually changed cinema. We're talking a lot about ret cons lately but we were talking about something even before the show started that i think might be important to point out here when you say you know do things retroactively ret con whatnot. You're not talking about necessarily just like wiping the slate clean and saying this never happened. You're talking about adding it <unk> adding to it enhancing it. I haven't watched them in years. I've watched the first one planning but the second to there's an entire sequence if i remember correctly with the architect where there's a bunch of nieto's what easier franchise to fix than one where there's that many reality is easier. It's a movie about coding recode. The damn matrix is right there. So all you needed was the people that want it and the technology to catch up to make it different enough to make it worth making and the talent and we got all that in this announcement one of my very favorite things in this announcement is a quote and it says many of the ideas lilly and i explored twenty years ago about our reality are or even more relevant net lake more relevant now. That is the key terms phrase whatever that suggests that this franchise is worth bringing back. I could tell your super into into whatever <hes> was pitching this now well. It's just something i'm really passionate this year in general and storytelling is all the use of parallel realities alternate timelines justice that is also in any property and immediate fixture problem like it's not annoying. It's interesting it's exciting and and this is a- an ideal property to do that with you have to you we also have seen so with halloween. You can go that didn't happen and people will be okay with it. It's totally fine but by incorporating these sort of parallel words or re recoding as you said you don't have to do that you can satisfy both realities without pissing off a fair legion of fans who probably would be like what we saw that happen. You know there's a lot lot of possible reasons for that but it's it's interesting from a creative perspective if if that is solely lana on her own that i'm curious to see okay how the world might feel different when it's just one mind sort of creating this time around what's interesting to me is is that in conjunction with how many incredible creators came out of the matrix as we have like the john wick team and so many people that we now have directing their own work whether or not they come back to be like first a._d. Or any sort of second unit what the assemblage blue-chip the matrix is because we only have one which hausky instead of the pair so i'm really curious what the movie feels like and we'll be able to tell it's one of them instead of the pair of them because we've only seen them work together to my knowledge.
