Anthony Fauci Shares His Final Message From the White House
"To be thankful for this week. Including Anthony Fauci, no longer being in our government. Now I haven't seen the last of Anthony Fauci. I got to tell you. We got to get him back in front of Congress. We got to get this leadership fight figured out. We got to get committees filled, and then we got to start sending subpoenas out like frisbees. To every single one of these people. Fauci gave his final message today at The White House play cut 69. So my message and my final message may be the final message I give you from this podium is that please, for your own safety for that of your family, get your updated COVID-19 shot as soon as you're eligible to protect yourself, your family and your community. This guy never stops. Paid to you by Pfizer AstraZeneca Moderna and Johnson & Johnson. Fauci continues. He says the real danger is those of us that have not been vaccinated. Play cut 72. In vaccinated and unboosted versus vaccinated plus boosted. That doesn't mean you shouldn't get boosted, but the real danger is in the people who have not been vaccinated. So that's where we expect if we're going to see a problem this winter, it's going to, yeah, if you see a problem, it's going to be the unvaccinated people. Doctor Anthony Fauci is the worst of the fourth branch of government. There has to be a mandate for this new Republican House of Representatives. To put on full display the lying the cheating, the stealing the deceit. The self enrichment. Of Anthony Fauci.

'American Injustice' Author J.P. Mac Isaac Is Getting the Truth Out
"Think people are going to learn in this book when they get it? And the book, by the way, is American injustice, my battle to expose the truth. Well, I think it should be a cautionary tale. There's two stories that I think the more important story is not revolving around a guy with a drug problem and a sex addiction that left three laptops at my shop are one laptop in my shop. I think the story is more of this is what happens when our mainstream and social media collude with our federal agencies that have been weaponized politically. And this is the outcome. And they decided to block my story, replace the narrative with this Russian collusion. And push that on to the American people. And they took away my opportunity to tell my story. So this book allows me to tell the story. They can't shadow ban this book. They can't block it on YouTube. So this is my story and my effort to get the truth out.
J.P. Mac Isaac Tells Us What He Found on Hunter Biden's Laptop
"Us now is John Paul mcisaac, John, welcome to the program. Thanks for having me on the show. So John, tell us the story for those people that haven't heard. How did you come across Hunter Biden's laptop? Well, on April 12th, 2019, hunter Biden came into my shop with three liquid damage laptops. I was able to check in one, two, I left with him. That one laptop when I checked it in and performed a data recovery. That's when he came in for it. He didn't come in for a repair. He came in for a data recovery. So I was kind of forced to recover the data manually recovered, verify it. That's what I realized that there was a lot of homemade porn and drug use. But I also saw some other documents that were kind of a concern. It showed a lot of exchange. And the exchange of a lot of money and then ultimately I would discover that that was a lot of money in exchange for access to the office of the vice president. Now, there are some speculation that on the laptop there was illegal forms of pornography. Can you speak to that? You know, I've never felt really comfortable about talking about the actual contents of the laptop with anybody other than people of authority and the authorities. I can say that the 80,000 images of CP that were reported to be on the laptop, that's false. There is some, there's some disturbing images that are revolving family members, and I'll just leave it at that. Okay,
John Paul Mac Isaac: Hunter Never Paid Discounted Data Recovery Bill
"When he came in I know you just kind of alluded to it but can you tell obviously that he was not in the right state of mind putting it delicately Was it obvious the minute he walked in the store Yeah I was pretty obvious He had some mobility issues and the smell of alcohol proceeded him before he actually reached the counter Again when I saw the sticker I just assumed he was still in mourning His brother's death was I think a year and a half prior maybe two years prior So I figured this was an emotional time for him And I felt bad for the guy I mean I'm a Scotsman I don't cut deals but normally I charge $200 for data recovery And I felt bad for the kids so I charged them 85 which he never paid
John Paul Mac Isaac: Biden Asked for Laptop Back Day Before News Leak
"Just to get to the point where you have this Eureka moment where you're saying yourself my gosh this is the son of the president here You see this Beau Biden of course was Hunter Biden's brother who is deceased through the brain cancer now You see this sticker on the laptop And you put two and two together saying to yourself like you said it's not unusual for deceased family emergency command and want to retrieve data off computers But you figure out it's the sun Are you thinking to yourself at this point I mean I think this is a question a lot of us have John Paul What kind of an idiot does this with all this compromising data I mean that's that you're a smart guy That has to have occurred to you at some point immediately when you figured out who he was All I can say to that is drugs are a horrible thing And the commission that he was in when he dropped it off I'm surprised that if he remembers the interaction I know he has to remember the interaction because his lawyer called me up the day before the post ran the story asking for the laptop back
John Paul Mac Isaac Did Not Initially Recognize Hunter Biden
"Congratulations on the success of the book I think the story needs to be told again folks it's called American injustice You should pick it up today It's his story of dealing with this Hunter Biden fiasco which the John Paul you did not ask to be part of this You were going about your work in a store you run you're the sole proprietor from what I heard you say on Fox this morning And a guy walks into your store and you didn't immediately recognize him as Hunter Biden correct Correct Yeah I have a visual impairment So I can't really see too clearly past about four feet Right And I heard you say as well this morning that you weren't you really didn't care that much about the Biden family to go looking up what his family members look like and I thought that was a pretty good line I was listening to you on with my buddy Bill hemmer this morning So there was no incentive for you to for you to react any differently than you would have to any other customer when he walked in correct No you know and it's not the first time customers have come in with deceased family members devices seeking to get the memories recovered off those machines And when I saw the Bo Biden sticker foundation sticker on one of the laptops that's what I assumed It wasn't until the next day and after verifying the data that I realized that these were in fact hunters laptops and then after his father announced his candidate candidacy for the presidency I realized that well I was in danger because there was a lot of compromising stuff on that laptop and I knew somebody was going to come looking for it
Doug Breaks Down What Happened in the Recent Elections
"Go back. I mean, also, as I said, we were on the very low end of the races. Still being called, we still got some folks who still, you know, races have not been called in California. We've got one in a recount in Colorado. Just a lot still left going on. So as we deal with this coming up, the, I think the issues that we have to face artists. What happened? Why did the Senate in which Republicans thought that they were going to get a 51 seat or a 52% majority ended up getting a back to status quo? I've got many texts and many calls from folks saying, you know, just pointing out the fact that, yes, the Republicans flip the house, but if you look at the pure numbers, then what happened over a $1 billion was spent and we ended up basically in the same exact numerical position that we had beforehand. Now there's one change that could come. We could, you know, the Democrats are fighting for the 51st seat down here in Georgia. If Herschel Walker wins, then that seat, then it'll be back to 50 50 with Kamala Harris, breaking all the ties. Let's break this down a little bit. What happened? Why did it happen? I still a little bit early. But we're seeing some trends that develop. And I want to talk about the election and what does all this mean. And then we're going to go back into what happened in the last few days with leadership elections and how that the results of these elections have played into that. So first off, one of the things that I think that we have to just take into account something we've talked about here on the podcast with many guests before, and that is a Canada's Mac. At the end of the day, candidates matter. Endorsements are great, endorsements help you endorsements give you credibility if you don't have credibility. It gives you an edge if there's a disparity maybe or there's an unknown factor in your race. I think this 2022 election cycle will prove that out many times over, but it is not the only thing that you need.
Rebecca Weber: A Structural Voting Problem Promoted by Democrats
"Are reading Seamus column here, make some very good points for example. Mitch McConnell out there publicly endorsing and supporting candidates who were clearly anti Trump looking at rhino Lisa Murkowski, giving her money. He also spent big money on Murkowski, even though she voted to confirm kanti Brown Jackson while she voted against Brett Kavanaugh. This is an in your face move, meanwhile, you have Kevin McCarthy out there, and he is covertly and has been covertly supporting establishment candidates and trying to sabotage the campaigns of true conservative candidates out there. That's exactly right. And we saw that a lot of the candidates hand picked by Kevin McCarthy lost races. But again, major media knows that people know the Trump's name, the average person might not know who Kevin McCarthy is, unless you're paying attention to politics, right? And even if you look at what happened with the Oz betterman race, I don't think it's because Trump endorsed a bad candidate. I think that 70% of the democratic vote was mailed in prior to the debate. And we know that the debate was a bit of a goal. And we know this as a sediment campaign really misled the public. Saying that his stroke was not very severe. So we're seeing this over and over again. There's definitely a structural voting problem. We've seen that. We see how the Democrats are using COVID to implement and extend a vote by mail in early voting schemes. So this is something that we here at a Mac or very focused about or members care. We had over 12,000 amac members who participated as poll watchers, but this was an issue impacting the entire country and we've got a really work aggressively to remedy.
Rebecca Weber: Donald Trump Is Being Used as a Scapegoat
"Was reading on the a Mac website a terrific column written by Seamus Brennan, the headline, the absurdity of the blame Trump campaign. Again, going back to what happened election day. You got a lot of people out there trying to blame Trump, and I'm one of these people that doesn't, I just don't think it's Trump's fault. What happened? You know, Todd, we knew that Trump's endorsed candidates if they lost. We knew that he would get all of the blame. And if they won, he would get none of the credit. You know, it's my view that Trump did not watch the 2022 elections, but they are sure the major media and media plunges through making Trump look like a scapegoat, it's easy to try to get people to follow the herd, single out people who think differently than you and feed them a narrative, and this is what we're seeing happening. We've got to remember Donald Trump was an America first president. He brought us to energy independence. We saw tax cuts and deregulation, that's what we've got to remember. And also ask ourselves, do we want rhino do nothing Republicans? I would like to ask your listeners, what do they think is Mitch McConnell? And his allies behind the blame Trump campaign has Mitch McConnell's in furious about the border crisis and the national security disaster. We haven't seen for us of a government shutdown. Where was McConnell's considerable power? In the 50 50 Senate to set up really strategic fights forcing Biden to finish the walls, stopping the Department of Homeland Security from trying to censor our free speech. And then of course, amach members, we've got over 2 million of them. They were really upset when they saw that he greenlighted unpopular legislative policy initiatives. You know, it's one thing to say we want to help Ukraine. But what about our own border? Right here.

Paris Hilton Wants 10 Wedding Gowns
"I started talking to my Paris Hilton the other day, which we called. Wonky Mac valtrex, which I think is disgusting. But the fact is she wants ten dresses for her wedding. She needs a dress for all these different moments. Multiple outfit changes, she is a diva. There's gonna be multiple camera angles, you know? It's gonna be televised, we all know that. But basically why she's wearing ten wedding dresses, don't be stupid, is because she gets paid to wear these dresses for her Instagram. So of course, she's gonna do that. That's where the money is nowadays. It's all about product placement. I think she's trying to get her wedding to her sister's level, but 100 dresses is not going to erase the fact that she's Paris Hilton and her sister married a Rothschild. So Paris can never surpass that. That's as big as it comes. But ladies answer me. How do you enjoy your wedding if you're constantly in the changing room the whole time?
Already Taken the Vaccine? Here's Dr. Peter McCullough's Advice
"A couple emails here of people that are saying Charlie, you've been focusing on the vaccine, but honestly, it gives me great anxiety because I took the vaccine and now I regret it. Is there anything I can do? Doctor what's your wisdom on that topic? You know, the government is not recognizing vaccine injuries and that the damage that the nucleic acids, the genetic material, and then the spike protein doing the body paper by Stanford from Stanford by rolfe and colleagues and then in cell DX Bruce Patterson preprint format shows the genetic material and the spike protein may not ever get out of the body. It has a toxicity to it. So people are scrambling for things to do, no prospective, randomized trials, the best thing I can tell you is I'm following my patients carefully and beyond a year, I'm not seeing the emergence of problems right now. I hopefully this will hold up. The main point is, don't take any more. The toxicity appears to be cumulative.
The Kids Are Not Alright With Dr. Peter McCullough
"Watching television the other day and the Arizona Department of Health is still running commercials, saying get your vaccine, get your booster and here comes the Florida Surgeon General saying, yeah, actually, the vaccine shows an 84% increase in cardiac issues for young men. 84% increase. Here's cut 43 pediatric ICU nurse talking about how they were not allowed to talk about heart problems. They were seeing due to the vaccine, play cut 43. I took care of those children who came in with myocarditis after the vaccine. It was an unspoken thing that we were not allowed to talk about openly on the unit. The day before I was taken away from my position, I was actively giving compressions to a child to keep him alive. Your thoughts, doctor McCullough. Well, I'm seeing the survivors in my clinic, Charlie. They're coming in in large numbers. Heart damage. We see it by MRI. Sadly, it's not going away. You know, it leads to heart damage leads to a scar. The scar is the nidus for an abnormal rhythm called ventricular tachycardia, degeneration and ventricular fibrillation, a systole, and that's death. The daughter, the 17 year old daughter of democratic congressman Sean casten from Illinois, she takes the vaccine. He discloses this in the report in the hill, and then she dies in her sleep. Again, it's my opinion as a cardiologist. That death is due to the vaccine until proven otherwise. He discloses she's perfectly healthy. She had perfectly healthy visits with the doctor. She was planning the rest of her life. You can imagine the grief, the shock the remorse, the guilt that he has in having his child undergo an unnecessary vaccine.

"No doubt the company is trying to capitalize NFS tip season, though it's one that some worry will not be as festive as seasons past. While searching online to learn more about India's festive season, the first article I came across was one from quartz, lamenting a festive season without the spirit. It's not a piece overly concerned with spirit, nor festivities, but with economics. Quoting that peace, Indian consumers tempered by inflation and with their hopes dashed by an erratic monsoon, may not spend heavily this coming festive season. Some 35% of them do not plan to spend anything at all, according to a survey by social community platform local circles out of the remaining 65% who may, the budget was 10,000 rupees or about $123 U.S., the comparable figure for 2020 was 15,000 rupees, or about 184 bucks. And now, two things you probably don't want to do with your Apple watch ultra. Thing one, just because you can open the watch up relatively easily. Does not mean you should. Apple insider has word of a tear down of the device by iFixit, don't let the screws on the thing fool you, the screen looks challenging to repair, according to the report, with the test model breaking even under the professional hands of iFixit. The fix it yourself folks have not published a full tear down the Apple insider piece was written based on a video tear down, which you can catch on YouTube. I've exit does not appear to have given Apple watch ultra, a one to ten score at this point. Thing two, you probably shouldn't do with your Apple watch ultra. Just because you can beat the bleep out of it with a hammer, does not mean you should. Cult of Mac writes up the SmackDown delivered to apple's $800 watch by YouTuber tech racks, yes, that is the same tech racks who tested iPhone 14 pros crash detection feature last week. For apple's rough and tumble wearable tech rax dropped it face down on concrete that produced minor scratches to the case, but no hit functionality, he then shook the watch inside a jar of nails, again, no hit to performance, and so out comes the hammer. As a more extreme test, says the cult, the YouTuber repeatedly slammed the Apple watch ultra's face with a hammer and surprisingly the wearable survived them all initially. In fact, the table on which the test was being done broke first. Eventually the piece says the watch stopped working a few more wax in the sapphire crystal glass shattered. That's kind of incredible actually. The watch stopped working then the glass broke. Kind of trippy. You can see tech rocks put the hammer down at repeatedly.

"To another video that seems to show the physical camera module itself also making a grinding and rattling noise of some sort. Indications in the 9 to 5 Mac piece are that this is only happening when third party apps are activated. The piece says it's also iPhone 14 pro specific, though I'm not a 100% certain whether that means that model specifically or the pro end of the iPhone 14 line. Either way, 9 to 5 Mac thinks the issue is software, not hardware related. Quoting the report because this iPhone 14 pro camera shaking, rattling problem is only affecting the camera in third party apps. It's almost certainly a software bug of some sort, it is likely that these third party apps weren't prepared for the iPhone 14 pro camera changes. In particular, it could be something related to optical image stabilization, hence the rattling sound, the camera module itself makes. No word on any sort of fix for now. 9 to 5 Mac figures fixes will come in the form of individual updates to the effected applications. It's not just consumers catching issues with apple's latest and greatest, a piece from Mac rumors as developers or people in apple's developer program are as well. According to the report, the iOS 16.1 beta is preventing the GPS from working properly on at least some iPhone 14 pro and iPhone 14 pro max, units. If you are among the effected, the report says you'll either need to downgrade the iOS 16.01 or go without working GPS until a later iOS 16.1 beta fixes that issue. When it comes to bugs, new hardware and new operating systems, the phone isn't the one having all the fun, a piece from Mac rumors says watchOS 9 breaks streaming to Apple watch from Spotify. According to a message from the streaming audio juggernaut, Apple watchOS 9 introduced a bug that causes Spotify streaming on the Apple watch to stop working, we urge Spotify Apple watch users not to install watchOS 9 update until Apple has implemented a fix for the issue, users who are already affected can instead download their content to their Apple watch and listen offline or stream from their phones. It's kind of a funky bug use a report seen by Mac rumors indicate that streaming stops after about a minute, while the audio is no longer audible, the track progress bar just keeps right on progressing. Unconfirmed reports say the developer beta of watchOS 9.1 seated last week fixes the problem. However, the piece says Apple does not mention the issue and its release notes, so users won't know for sure until apple rolls out the next Apple watch update to the public. Only to have somebody else figure out a solution that was staring you right in the face the whole time. That is sort of how therapy works. No therapist is going to solve your problems for you, but we do talk to therapists about stuff we don't necessarily discuss with other people. So that problem that's got you down or holding you back, that problem with that person that's troubling you talking to somebody else could help solve it. "Started today at better help. Dot com slash macOS can. Hedging is bad for the near term and being just so him going forward. Ladies and gentlemen, word on the latest words from Bernstein research analyst Tony sakuna. Barons has written up the latest from the soccer leader, basically he thinks the street is too pessimistic about the June quarter for Apple and two optimistic about the next few quarters to follow. On June numbers, the piece says Apple had warned that supply constraints could reduce revenue in the quarter by 4 billion to $8 billion thanks to the actual impact might be at the low end of that range or below. Meanwhile, the beast goes on to say he thinks of Apple could outperform consensus estimates for both Mac and iPad sales, he sees Mac sales up 13% above the street's consensus forecast at three and projects iPad growth of 9% far above the street consensus forecast for a decline of 6%. Given those numbers, sake nagi has raised his June quarter expectations. He had been looking for revenue of $82.8 billion. He is up at 84 billion higher than the streets expectation of 82.4, he's also been looking for earnings per share of a buck 17. He has raised that to a buck 19, well above the streets expectation of $1 and 15 cents per share. After that though, ragnarok. While things do seem to be straightening out for the supply chain, sake nagi says incremental consumer weakness and foreign exchange headwinds could rain on future results parades. He doubts Apple will offer financial guidance given hashtag these times in which we live. That said, Barron says he does think that any hints that growth in the September quarter could be in the high single digits or better would be viewed positively by the street. Pass the very near term he is still pretty psycho nagi. With worry about consumer spending weakening in fiscal year 2023, his take on apple is neutral to modestly negative for the next 6 months to two years. Quoting his note again. We worry that growth may slow as consumers are increasingly pressured by inflation and rising rates. Apple is consumer centric, and it's highly transactional with less than 10% of its revenue and profits being recurring, meaning it could be vulnerable to a downturn. Second Aggie has a market perform rating on Apple shares. His price target on the shares is 170 bucks. No news of layoffs, though there is word this week that Apple is slowing hiring and spending for parts of its business. Mark gurman, Bloomberg's guy in the nose says secret peeps have told him that moves are being made to cope with a potential economic downturn. According to the report, the decision stems from a move to be more careful during uncertain times, though it isn't a company-wide policy, said the people who asked not to be identified because the deliberations are private. The changes won't affect all teams and apple is still planning an aggressive product launch schedule in 2023 that includes a mixed reality headset, its first major new category since 2015. The report says the slowdown in spending will not affect planned pay increases for retail and tech support staff Apple declined to comment for the Bloomberg piece. I guess we are always selling iPhones. You are always promoting iPhones. But likely just a couple of months between now and the next round of iPhones, Apple has launched a couple of new ads hyping the durability of iPhone 13. The Mac observer highlights the two spots, according to the piece, the video called edge demonstrates the protection Apple ceramic shield technology offers the iPhone 13. The other video called Sheik shows off iPhone 13s spell and splash resistance. Shake and edge are both available now on YouTube. With all the stories of iPhone surviving falls from amusement park rides and dips and lakes and rivers, one wonders why Apple bothers making and making up commercials. Why not a series of testimonials from people with true tales of iPhone survival? Maybe they don't want people doing stupid things with their iPhones, trying to get on the 21st century version of TV. Still, the stories of falling, sinking iPhones do come up, like the one this week of a phone lost for a few hours in the Atlantic Ocean. 9 to 5 Mac highlights a tale told in a Reddit post, said the eventually lucky so and so, phone sank to the bottom of the sea after 5 minutes of paddleboarding, 7 hours until the tide went out and it turned itself back on, I tracked it down and remarkably no damage after being in the sea for over 5 hours. To say it was at the bottom of the sea is a bit of an exaggeration based on the map the redditor posted. Still it was in the drink for between 5 and 7 hours. It is an impressive machine. Word of yet another RC early last week, we heard word of release candidates for all of apple's current operating systems. Last weekend did with second release candidates for iOS and iPadOS 15.6, now a piece from Apple insider says developers have been seated a second release candidate for macOS Monterey 12.5. Performance improvements and bug fixes are all the site expects with no visible user facing changes to report. It's been a minute since Apple arcade made news. That minute is up. Launched in the fall of 2019, Apple arcade gives subscribers access to ad free and micro transaction free games across a number of genres for $4 and 99 cents a month or as part of an Apple one subscription

"The first reviews of the 13 inch M two powered MacBook Pro are out. Called the Mac has gathered a bunch of those. Bottom line, they like to perform and hate the form factor, except they couldn't have written that last part without trying the machine. According to the cult and gadget says, it seems like a bit of a relic from another era, according to seeing that the M two MacBook Pro has a throwback design, its look can be traced back more than a decade, and wired harsh is on the device, saying it as a machine that is quite literally a processor update, and nothing more. Points off for bulkiness, allowing for a fan that called the Mac argues is unnecessary reviewers are also upset that apple's touch bar lives to fight another day. The M two is a dream, though. Though perhaps a confusing one, while it is faster than the M1, it is apparently not as peppy as the M1 pro nor the M1 max, but those are 14 and 16 inch machines. If you need small and now, this is the best apple has to offer, according to seeing that. Of course, the M two powered 13 inch MacBook Air is due out next month, so work that into your calculations before you do any buying. Work on the future of apple's ecosystem continues 9 to 5 magnet with a few pieces on Wednesday saying that the second betas of iOS 16 and one assumes iPadOS 16 macOS 13 Ventura watchOS 9 and tvOS 16 are available to developers..

"Steven, we got an email that was like irresistible to me from Greg. Greg says, unfortunate enough to have a dedicated office space and I'm looking for the ultimate Mac office design, budget is not a huge concern, but it's not infinite either. So what would you guys do to set up your ultimate Mac station? Oh man. And I thought, you know what? We could go so many directions with this. Yeah, I had a vision that we had like some sort of Mac set up consulting business on the side. People would just fly us in and we just have, you know, we can just order anything and it shows up next day and we can just like build people's desks for them. I don't know how big of a company that could be, but I'm here for it. Yeah. Yeah, it would require it. We would be extremely expensive for that job, but it would be it would be very sweet at the end. You'd be very happy with your setup. Yeah. And Stephen would have like a Batman belt that would have Velcro and zip ties on it. Yeah, ready to go at all times to manage these cables. Yeah, exactly. The cable management would be chef's kiss, right? All right. Well, let's talk about it, because I am building a room. And this, of course, this question got to me a little bit. It's like, oh, yeah. Wouldn't that be fun setting it up from scratch? What would you do? If you could start from scratch. Yeah, I mean, I have twice now, really. Yeah. And I think you start with the desk and I think you put as much desk in as will fit in the area. It's like when I moved to like the new quote unquote new side of my studio, I've got a much wider or I guess much longer desk now and that lets me spread out a little bit more and not feel as cramped and I really don't have room for a second display, but if I wanted to use an iPad as a second display or something I can do that, where previously I really couldn't work because I was where the old desk was. So I think having big open desk space, a nice desk that you really liked that's sit stand probably like, I think that's the cornerstone of any setup. Yeah, so let's break that down. First of all, you said and I totally agree with is desk size. I would get as big a dust as you can fit, it's really nice having space that you can work on when you're on your computer. I have added extra speed. I've got a three by 6 sit stand desk that I bought kind of early in the Mac power user. I was thinking the other day, this thing is probably over ten years old now. I don't think the company is even in business anymore, but it's got a motor in it. It goes up and down. And I use it all the time. And so sit stand is an important to me. But before you get to the sit stand question, I think get as much space as you can. Last year I added a shelf to mine. And I really like that because it also gives me, in essence, additional space on my desk. And space to stretch out a bit, I think, is important. Yeah, definitely. Comfortable chair, I think, is also really important. I mean, you don't have to go super crazy, but I have always owned a $100 chairs in the last two or three years ago, I bought it at like an $800 chair, and it is so much better. I really, 'cause I'll sit in this chair, you know, 6, 7 hours a day with breaks when we have like, you know, squirrel hunts and things. But I really find it much nicer being in a comfortable chair. So as comfortable with the chairs, you can afford. And you don't need to buy the most expensive ones. I think the really expensive ones. I'm not sure you get the same bang for your buck with those. Yeah, I actually agree with that. Yeah, I think a chair is huge. As far as the Mac part of this, you're picking a really good time because we've got the Apple silicon transition is almost complete, but also you can buy a studio display. You know, you're not stuck putting an LG ultra fine on your desk, you don't have to buy a pro display XDR. Studio displays a great fit for almost everybody. It's got built in speakers. It sounds pretty good. It's got a webcam that is supposedly getting better with a software update any time now. And it's a good size, 27 inches at 5 K is a nice size. And you can pair it with anything because all the Macs have all the current Macs have thunderbolt. Three or four now that will push that display just fine. From a MacBook Air or a Mac mini all the way up to a max max studio. And so, boy, what a good time to set something up from scratch. I think studio display plus your Mac of choice if you want a notebook, you know, to take it with you or a desktop, it's a great time. And I think the studio display is like really, it is a little expensive for what it is, I think. But I think it's a much better situation than we were in 6 months ago. Yeah, I mean, the fact is there really isn't anything that competes with it, except the LG ultrafine, which doesn't really compete with it. So, yeah, that's the problem. Greg, who wrote in as an engineer, he works with electronics with his Mac. And so I would think that if he wants a stationary one, he should get a max video, if he wants one that he can move around, get a MacBook Pro. One person that right now I would tell to wait is somebody who feels like a Mac studios too much, but they want a little bit more than the entry level Mac mini. I feel like that's probably going to get solved in the next year, if not 6 months. So I feel like apple is going to fill that little void in the line. But generally, if you want a fairly powerful Mac, now it's a great time to set up with this another thing I would say if you're setting up space, make it space you're really comfortable in, I know a lot of people listening live in cubicle land and I worked for an office at an office for 23 years where I couldn't put what exactly what I wanted on my walls and I couldn't put a Yoda on my desk when I was in my office. But and I get that. So if you're stuck in a place where you can't control it, take what you can, you know? Figure out whatever makes you happy and try and make it as much your space as possible. There's actually studies on this, I read this great book last year, I keep referencing it called the extended mind by Annie Murphy Paul..

"That's fine. But just let's all be positive about this because the end of the story is we are in a period of transition of rough waters. As I said earlier, they will come, you know, Apple had the same rough waters with their hardware a few years ago. And I think we all feel pretty good about it now. I feel like software can get there too. I do too. So some other listener feedback, Alfred wrote in writing about touchscreen Macs and the iPad is a secondary monitor, something we spoke about on more power users last week about how you're using your iPad. In conjunction with your Mac and Alfred brought up brought up. Sidecar. So the ability to extend the macOS screen and interface onto an iPad and you can use the Apple pencil there and things like they mentioned illustrator in particular is useful in their workflow. But they say that this quoting Alfred commercially, apple may not want to publicize this because it is far more expensive than the Microsoft surface, but it works, and it solves a bunch of problems for me. Yeah, so I mean, I agree like sidecar is really cool, and I think if you have a Mac and an iPad, and this is sort of workflow you have, it can be a real game changer because for whatever reason Apple isn't willing or able to put a touch screen on the Mac at this point, but I don't think it's like a, I mean, it was like a headlining feature a few years ago. I don't think apple is shying away from the feature or talking about it. I think it's just, you know, it's just kind of there now. Yeah. And we talked about it on the more power users, but I am just so happy with my situation of having a big iPad under my Mac screen between sidecar and universal control. It gives me so many options and I don't know. You know how technology gives you sparks of joy. This does for me. And the more ways I figure out to use it, like right now, I'm looking at my recording tools below my Mac while I'm sitting here with all this big screen real estate dedicated to data for the episode and research. I just, I love it. I'm very, very pleased. Someone wrote me said, well, are you going to buy one of these studio displays? And you can put it next to your big screen display, and then you have extra screen real illustrate. My external display at this point is my iPad, and it's just the right size for me. And it's also important importantly in the same focal distance as my main screen, looking at my main screen, or just the vertex down below, to the iPad. I don't have to change my focal length, if that makes sense. Totally. Whereas because the screen is so big, if I put by hung another monitor to the left or the right of it, after she changed the focus of my eyes to read them, I don't want to do that. People talk about touchscreen Macs for well over a decade and I think in talking about and thinking about what that would mean for touch to come to macOS. You really got to look at windows, which well over a decade ago, probably two decades ago, Microsoft was playing with windows for, you know, at the time it was called pin computing, right? You'd have a laptop and have a stylus in it. I had a ThinkPad for a while, like 15 years ago that had a stylus in it. It was fantastic. But Windows itself had a lot of growing pains to support it because any time you add touch to a keyboard and mouse driven operating system, you just have some inherent problems. And so windows solved it by pin computing that, well, really the stylus basically acts like a cursor and it wasn't until more recently that Windows went under Windows went through a visual redesign to a degree to make things like touch targets bigger to make things like UI elements more accessible by using using a finger or two. And Apple just hasn't done that in macOS, right? Things are still pretty small. It's still basically driven by a cursor. And where they've added support for touch is through gestures via the track pad, which they've done since like 2000 and 8 or so. So you can zoom and rotate and pan and do all these things through the track pad, not the screen itself. I think Apple just they don't want to turn macOS into an operating system that is more touched for me, but then it looks kind of weird for most people who are just going to use a laptop or a desktop and maybe not interact with the touch display. I think there's also the ergonomic issue, which Apple, I don't think Apple wants to go down the road of like two in one max or max it like flip around. And so they seem willing to stay in the traditional form factors and let technologies like sidecar, fill in the gaps where people who really benefit from that workflow enhancement. Yeah, I think that my I keep banging on about this. But I think my current situation of big iPad directly under the center of Big Mac monitor, and I'm using the element listed elevation labs or I always forget, it's called a draft table..

"That gives them an interest in how durable such devices are. By all states account the site of iPhone SE you talk into or really stare into is pretty solid. Drop them height of 6 feet onto its face, eye more says the phone only suffered minor scrapes. Drop it on its back though, and it's a different story. All state protection VP, Jason siciliano, sings the phone's praises while sounding an alarm. Quoting the VP with the third generation iPhone SE, Apple has created a truly durable phone that doesn't break the bank. It survived one drop from 6 feet on its front side, which is impressive. While it didn't survive a back down drop from 6 feet, putting it in a case should help while it's $429 price point makes the new iPhone SE a more affordable option, it can cost up to $299 to repair. To limit financial risk, siciliano suggests a case, a screen protector and this will come as a shock, a protection plan. I wonder if he has any he would recommend. Mag studio seems to ship with apple's usual technological keep outside a piece from Mark rumors as the SSD storage on apple's latest desktop is easy to take out, but not easy to replace or upgrade. YouTuber Luke miane says that is thanks to a software block, according to Mac rumors, initial tear down suggested that the Mac studio storage could be upgradable since it is not soldered in place. Each Mac studio contains two internal SSD slots and the SSDs themselves can be freely swapped between the connectors. Miami wondered whether that made upgrading on his own a possibility. So the piece says, he wiped the SSD of a Mac studio, removed it from the machine and inserted it into an empty SSD slot and another Mac studio, but the max status light blanked SOS and would not boot. The piece says the machine sees the SSD, it recognizes it as an SSD, and it won't play. My groomer says such behavior suggests that this is a conscious decision by Apple to prevent users from upgrading their storage themselves on its website, the piece continues Apple claims that the Mac studios SSD storage is not user accessible. And encourages users to configure the device with enough storage at the point of purchase. The site figures the lack of solder on the SSDs is to make work easier for authorized repairs not to accommodate people who want to go under the hood of the thing for which they have paid several thousand of their own dollars. Apple's new studio display is turning into quite the mystery machine. Over the weekend, we learn that it runs the latest version of iOS, now a number of reports, including one from 9 to 5 max, say the 5 K display packs 64 gigabytes of onboard storage. Why? Make up your own reason. It uses less than two gigabytes according to the report. 9 to 5 Mac says it makes sense that the studio display would need some amount of onboard storage, primarily because the display supports software updates and storage space is required to perform those updates. 64 gigabytes, however, seems incredibly excessive if it's there simply for software updates. Then again, it may just be leftover storage. The piece points out that studio display is powered by apple's a 13 bionic processor at the same processor that powered iPhone 11. That phone ship was 64 gigabytes of storage minimum. 9 to 5 Mac figures Apple probably produced millions of a 13 bionic chips with 64 gigabytes of onboard storage and is simply using those for the latest display. I may have missed this when studio display was announced, but we know where some of the a 13 bionic strength is going. A piece from Mac rumors as some older Macs that do not support hey apple's virtual assistant, gain that support when plugged into a studio display. According to the report, while hay apple's virtual assistant normally requires a MacBook Pro released in 2018 or later, the feature can be used on 2016 and 2017 models of the 13 inch and 15 inch MacBook Pro, while connected to a studio display. Likewise, while that command normally requires an iMac released in 2020 or later, the feature can be used on 2017 through 2019 models of the 21 and a half inch iMac and 27 inch iMac while connected to a studio display. If you regret not going with the $400 adjustable stand option for your studio display, good news. Well, it hadn't been thought that the stand chosen in the initial purchase would be the stand with which you are stuck. You are not. A piece from my download blog says it had been reported that the mountain stands for studio display were not interchangeable, the site says it turns out that that is not the case and that Apple store or Apple authorized service provider should be able to switch one for the other without switching the whole display. And finally today, studio display has an unremovable power cord that can actually be removed, but totally probably shouldn't be. According to a piece from the Mac observer, Apple says the power cord on the 5 K display is not removable the device actually ships with the cord attached. But you can remove it. But you shouldn't. Nowadays special tool anyway. Doing so safely says the bees requires a special tool, this tool, a large circular drum with a handle,.

"Zocdoc for their support of the Mac power users and all of relay FM. Okay, so onto some feedback in this supposed feedback episode. Yeah. We gotta talk about the stream deck again, because we touched a nerve with that one, man. Stream deck stuff. So many things. Yeah, there is a lot of follow up in the forums. We're going to put a link in the show notes, and there's a lot of people talking about it. A lot of people buying new stream decks, a lot of people that already had them. They're doing cool things with them. I just feel like the stream deck is one of those things that is a perfect fit with Mac power users. You mean give me buttons that I can customize the look of and make my Mac do cool stuff. Sign me up. It's not a very hard sell, you know? Yeah, and that's where I wanted to start. A lot of posts in that thread were talking about ways to make buttons. And that's something we sort of touched on in the episode, but then it really go down too much. But several really nice applications, the first one is button creator. This is a Mac app, it's in the Mac App Store. And it lets you create buttons just for the stream deck. It's like pretty single purpose. It's $4. But it has some really cool tricks up its sleeve. So you can set a course like backgrounds or gradients, which gradient buttons can look really cool. Mine are mostly solid color, but this makes me want to do more gradient things. Yeah. And it has a predefined library of 2400 icons. Or you can use any emoji or you can supply your own image file. And it will export square P and gs that you can go and drag into the stream deck software to make your buttons and honestly, you probably don't need anything more than what this offers. This is so impressive and the list of these icons it can do and how it lays them out is really nice. It was, it was an instability for me when I saw this. It just makes so much sense. And for four bucks, it's cheap. And these icons are SF symbols as far as I can tell. So the trick I was talking about in the show of taking SF symbols and exporting them and then all the nonsense I was doing this app has done the work for you. Yep. I don't think it's the full collection of SF symbols because SS symbols is now up to like 3300 images. Yeah. So maybe this app will get an update to include them because I think there's some weirdness about an app basically like showing you the full libraries of SF symbols and the apples that picky about that. But if you're looking for like one way to make buttons for your stream deck or other products like it, this button creator for steam deck application gets my full thumbs up. Yeah, me too. Me too. There's another app called bakery. And this is another App Store. App, and you can design assets and screenshots, but people are also using that to make their stream deck buttons. Yeah. Yeah, it is more full featured than the button creator app. Bakery does a lot of things. But you can definitely use it for just this sort of simple use of making beautiful buttons. But you can also do the same in app stores. Yeah, App Store previews, app icons, lots of things with this. It's free with an in app purchase. And it's pretty cool. They can do a lot of stuff, but probably a lot of stuff that most people don't need, I think, is maybe how I would say it. Yeah. And then there's another app called image to icon. Which I have used in the past this app for creating icons for drives and things on my Mac. When I get into the custom icon phase and I want to grab an image. But that would work too. Yeah, so this you're giving it a photo, say, of your dog, and put it in there. You tell it what sort of icon is going to be, and then it sort of takes that image and makes the icon out of it. So if it's a folder, you can make it like cropped to the image of the folder or like you said like a drive, then you could have it as like the label on the top of the drive. It's really cool. And it is, again, really flexible, but a nice way to make these make these buttons. Even if the name hurts me, the name hurts me a little bit. Yeah, well, you know, it feels very like 20 years ago how you would name an app. That's okay. But the and it has in app purchases as well. And it looks like it's because it's been updated since the last time I used it looking at it here as we prep. But yeah, there's a lot of ways. And even the ways we were talking on the show just take an image file and crop it to a box, works too. There's a lot of things. But people do want to have cool looking buttons on their stream deck and.

"Yeah. Yeah, yeah. But I did take the storage all the way up to 8 terabytes and I did the memory up to 64 gigabytes. So I maxed out the memory and storage with the M1 max. So I feel like that storage is like one of those buy ones cry once situations because with people like you and me who are doing a lot of video, it is so easy to fill up your drive. And now, are you going to be replacing your Mac pro with this? I am. Yeah, this is the Mac pro will go on sale. My Mac studio doesn't show up until like the first week of April because it's a custom order to take a little bit longer. Yeah. And I'm going to move everything over. I was contemplating a clean install. And I may still do that depending on what just how my schedule looks when it gets here, but I'll probably migrate. I actually think a clean install makes a lot of sense when you're going from Intel to Apple silicon. Yeah. Yeah, and I haven't done it in a long time on my main machine. I feel like if there's a time, I'm going to make the time to do it. Maybe I take a weekend and rebuild everything. It doesn't take as long as it used to. That's true. And so yeah, so I'm going to have that. I'm keeping my pro display. Keeping I did buy a new keyboard, which I'll have a touch ID keyboard floating around, which I'm very excited about having touch ID on the desktop. I just don't think about it. It makes me so excited because I love having it on my laptop and there are times where I sit down at my Intel Mac pro and I put my finger on what is the eject key. Like, why doesn't why am I not being logged in? It's like, oh, right. Not touch ID. So I'm very excited about it. You know, I'm going to sit it behind my display somewhere. And I've got to still work out. I mean, I have my backup drives obviously internal to the Mac pro. So they will have to come external, so I have a to do list after vacation to look at OWC and look what I have and make sure I get a couple of enclosures that work for me. But I can stack those drives on top of the Mac studio behind the display. They'll be hidden view. Or put them under the desk the way you do. So I'm excited. You can repurpose so you can repurpose the drives inside your Mac pro for that. Yeah, because I have in the Mac pro, I mean, the internal SSD obviously will go with the machine. But my other storage I have, I'm using 2.5 inch Samsung SSDs that you can just put into an enclosure and even into a laptop. So those can just come off, they're all on a card. And so I can take them off the card and put them in an enclosure and reset them up. So that I don't foresee being any problem. It's kind of a bummer to have a external, but I'm really excited about this machine. And it's already going to be so much faster than my Mac pro in a lot of ways. Some ways, they're pretty neck and neck in some ways. It would be noticeably faster, but I'm excited about joining Apple silicon across the board. And your electric bill will go down. Yeah. Yeah. And part of it is too, like, you know, this is a business, right? And so getting out of the Mac pro before the values really tank is important. My curly in particular is trying to get me to keep it. But I was like, that's a very expensive collection item. So I don't think I'll be doing that. No, don't keep it. I would absolutely sell it while it still got some out. There are pros that want until. I did the same thing with my iMac pro. I felt like it was like a stock that was about to tank. And when I got an offer on it that gave me something that was useful in return, I took it. And I feel like you should do the same thing with your Mac pro. You will be able to buy one cheap in a few years. So a couple of things. First of all, the decision of max versus ultra. I want to give you my formal blessing. I think that's the right move. I suspect that the first of all, I don't think you need the ultra for what you do. No. And secondly, I think the cooling situation is going to be really good for the max version. And for the ultra, it may be really good too. It's two pounds heavier, apparently the heat sink is copper and the ultra wind. But there is a chance I feel like with all that silicon burning in there that it may be more of a challenge to be silent. So, and if you're not going to be using the power, but it means that the fans below more because it's just so much bigger. That could be an issue. So I think you're probably right. I mean, we'll know once these things start shipping and people start testing them. But all Apple silicon so far is ran really cool. So maybe that's not even an issue. But I think you're probably bought the right one for you. And the storage I totally get where you're coming from. I'm already almost full with four terabytes. The max.

"Great news for this week's updates. It looks like the watchOS 8.5 update and the iOS 15.4 update fix an information league tied to mail on Apple watch. Last year says a piece from Mac rumors that emerged that apple's mail privacy protection feature was undermined by a lack of Apple watch support. Basically our researcher named Tommy misk found out that if you had email activated on Apple watch, the device was downloading all of the remote content associated with an email using a user's actual IP address, even if they had male privacy protection turned on on iPhone. That happened even if the user didn't open the email, basically undoing male privacy protection. We actually talked a lot about this on an episode of the checklist by secure Mac. Checklist two 56, a lack of male privacy protection. At the time, the only way to keep male privacy protections in place was by disabling male notifications on Apple watch, now though. Apple has very quietly fixed the issue. Mac rumors had mister misc, one of the guys who found the issue in the first place, posting about the fix. Yesterday on Twitter, he said, good news as a bio 15.4 and watchOS 8.5. The male app on the watch no longer leaks the IP address when downloading remote content, remote content is blocked on the watch even when male privacy protection is on. "Pro and have not been available to purchase separately. However, Mac studio comes with no peripherals and since people are spending money anyway, mag rumor says the magic keyboard with touch ID and numeric key patterns available for $199, the magic trackpad is available for one 49 and the magic mouse is available for 99 bucks, they are all available to order now from Apple's site. I said yesterday that if you were considering getting an Intel based Mac pro don't, I should apologize. There's nothing wrong with the machine as far as I know, and there are probably use cases for which the Intel architecture will work while Apple silicon will not. Well, it's unlikely to have much more in the way of updates ahead. It's gotten a couple of them this week. On Tuesday, AMD added a new GPU option. Now a piece from Mac rumors says Apple has bumped a couple of specs on the device as well. According to the piece, Apple has upgraded its base model Mac pro to include 512 gigabytes of storage, and AMD's Radeon pro W 5500 X graphics for the same $5999 starting price. Previously, this configuration included 256 gigabytes of storage, and Radeon pro 5 80 X graphics. Still seems like Mac studio might be a better bet. But if Intel based is the only thing that'll do, apple appears unready to abandon that older pro at this time. Heading into this week's peak performance event, some had hoped that Apple would update the 27 inch iMac with Apple silicon instead, apple sent that machine packing. On the same day that the company introduced max studio and had sold separately display are technical says the 27 inch Intel iMac disappeared from Apple's online store, the site has since confirmed with Apple that the super big, all in one desktop has reached end of life. "Words automatically add period with double space. A bunch of stuff. I do not want on on my mac. I've turned off all three of them. Yeah and then shortcuts button. That has like another. Like twelve different entire sub-systems built into it we did. We didn't entire show on services with south going which is a sub menu of the shortcuts in the keyboard. Yeah that's a whole world in there. What is cool in here. Is you can sat custom shortcuts per app. So there's app shortcuts section and you can add your own so how it works is you tell it. Okay women male. I want to assign this keyboard shortcut to this menu item. And you have to name it afternoon. Exactly the same you know A little abc's at the end. You got the ellipses but you can build your own keyboard shortcuts. And so for instance in notes. I added some to automatically create dashed or bulletin lists. Because something. i'd do a lot and notes doesn't always do what i wanted to do. In that regard. So i just set up okay. These are menu commands. They don't have their own keyboard shortcuts from apple. I'm going to assign my own. You're somebody like me. We're used a lot of apps at a really complex logic right. Logic has thousand things menu items and there are a couple that i need that don't have shortcuts like i couldn't use logic without some of these changes because it gets really quick access to something that otherwise have to dig through a menu for several times. A week agreed powerful. It's really really good. I really wish they would enable they would combine this in shortcuts for the mackinac. It's not out yet. But i want the ability to trigger. Specific menu selections shortcut. That'd be awesome. You know you can do that with keyboard my stern but you know why people don't want to go that extra step so there's one under keyboard shortcuts if you go to the bottom of the middle tab use keyboard navigation to move focus between controls. I love that that's another settings like why is that not turned on by default. So imagine you're working on your mac and a dialog box comes up and you just want to cancel or hit okay. If you hit the tab key can move between them and then had the return key to enter it and it just allows you to dismiss dialog boxes and move around controls and it doesn't work also works like in the save dialog box and other places where you wanna move around while keeping your hands on the keyboard and If you're somebody that gets annoyed every time you have to lift your fingers off the keyboard to go to attract matter mouse. You're gonna love this turn it on. Yeah it it should be on by default. I agree and it's it's intuitive. I mean i think anybody. I think there's a lot of people. Who have max that would try hitting the tab key and say oh i guess that just doesn't work on the mac and notes there for some reason. They've turned that off but either way Yeah i agree..

"No like the fading time basically the zero. Yeah no delay heels the animation. It just appears yeah. I don't like that. But even then it's i i'd prefer being able to see it and get to it more easily. I do that like we have this time. We've had this conversation on this show in like you. Sold may put it on the side. I kept it president. And i just found. I never used it. You know. I just for whatever reason i just don't. I'm just not into the dock. But anyway so i so i just i hide it in all that stuff but the actual system preference that That deals with the doc. Also deals with the menu bar and that has really changed a lot over the last couple of years. Yeah with the the inclusion of control center. You can now half things that used to be in the menu bar like bluetooth or do not disturb or why fine you can have them in the control center. But this is my other big. Gripe about system preferences is the window is not re- sizable like some preference. Panes will make it bigger than others. But you can't dis- dragged out and the dog and menu bar preference pane and big sur is the worst example of this because there's so much scrolling around to like see where things are. I think it's actually pretty confusing. Yeah and and also just kind of a little bit user. Hostile like the clock. Settings i i like to put a twenty four hour clock on On my in my menu bar. But whenever i screen cast. I don't wanna clock on the menu bar because you don't need to see that it took me ten minutes to record this thirty seconds of screen pass or or worse like an hour but the But there's no way to turn it off now. They've because they've turned the clock into the button. You press to get the sidebar to open up you know the The notification center So there's no way to turn it off. And and even when you go to the clock settings and preferences there's nothing in there about the menu icon you have to go into the dock settings. Scroll down this eibar. And there's a clock thing there that has the twenty four hour analog setting. So so what. I end up doing screen cast. Now i just turn on the analog clock. 'cause it's almost indecipherable the corner tiny but you know they just feel like they kind of like in in their effort to combine all of this. They didn't think it. Through as as far as i wish they had Do i was reminded of this. Looking at these settings there's a setting for flash the time separator so the kalinin between the hour in the minutes of do you remember like in the olden days. You'd have to do that because then it would tell you if you're mac was frozen or not. If the clock quit blinking you were you. Were hung was a diagnostic tool..

"You can rearrange things where maybe you don't ever use tags like i don't use tags and so i have the edit tags button Gone from there. You can rearrange what goes where and it's it's pretty handy And i think it's something that you should spend some time and even if you turn on these other things like the path bar Will you can add a little path. Drop down there if you want it. Because apple is hiding the proxy icons and big sur. See you have some flexibility with what goes there at the top And you can like in male. Say i want icons and text or just icons. Some of the icons are a little confusing. Like some of the grouping icons aren't some it's not super clear so maybe start out with icon attacks. If you really change things up and then go back to just icons once you feel comfortable with where everything is. Let's just put a pin in proxy on because once they release monterey. I have more to say. But i don't wanna get too excited until it's out of beta okay. But i have thoughts. I have thoughts on those proxy icons anyway one that i think you need to think about is they turned on by default. All of the cloud sync settings and I know a lot of people that are not that comfortable with cloud. Don't trust it Stephen uses dropbox for most of his big in sinking for instance and I think that you should have on your mobile viable mac list. You know checking with cloud and decide what you want to sink like. Do you really want it to sink your desktop files or how far down that rabbit hole you wanna go on that is managed in the cloud Icon of the system preferences and some of those are surfaced in setup assistant so we were talking earlier about migrating to a new mac for how long like the sink of my desktop. a documents. thi- cloud that has been checked by default. And i definitely don't want that the way that he's my computers and so the spent some time in there. I think one thing that's a little bit. Tricky about the cloud system preference pane in particular. Is that You don't necessarily kind of pay attention to it. But there's an options button next to high cloud drive next to fund my mac and in there you can really fine tune what you allow sync with cloud drive and that's where the desktop and documents setting is if you enable that and you put a folder on your desktop on your i'm ac. It'll show up on the desktop of your mac pro if you have this turned on both places and some people want people who use it. It's not for me personally but You do have some flexibility on whether that's on or off. Yeah so and everybody. That podcast. That i've ever listened. Said says don't do that. That's crazy you're asking for trouble. Two years ago. I turned it on and i've been running it for two years. I have. i had any problem. And it's really nice because my my office slash studio setup is great but At three o'clock every day the sun lands straight on my face from a window..

"It could be the start of something really exciting for your project. Our thanks to memorable for their support of the show and rela- fm so you've been doing these migrations along time and you have had no problems. It's been really solid for really time for me and even through big changes like i was doing this. Obviously before cloud was a thing now. We'll talk about us. You can use i to get a lot of stuff onto new mac. But even in this modern era with hundreds of gigabytes of data. I've got multiple terabytes of data on my home folder. On my mac pro. I had any issues ever. We had a So i have used migration assistant primarily with my kids more than myself Although i use it on myself occasionally and my wife But when apple came out with the intel macbook air with the new keyboard with a bet you know when they return to a good keyboard. My kids computer. One of them were both of their computers. Were just like barely. They were like original journey generation. Macbook airs Actually they weren't original. They weren't the ones with the the usb flap door but they were the first the wedge the first of the wedge macbook air so they were old computers and i migrated those zero problems they just worked and Then so when my wife she had a very old mac pro when the gun gov i bought her in m one mac book air and that migration was just doomed for some reason. I don't know what went wrong. It was connected for five hours and then it finally said it was done but it was clear from the get go. That hadn't gone right like and she keeps a lot of stuff on our desktop. And things weren't there and then we started looking at in the finder. things weren't there either and And i realized that you know something had gone horribly wrong and this was like very early days with the m one. Max and i can't but wonder if there was some kind of software bug with migration assistant between intel and apple silicon in the first couple months after they release them and it but either way i mean it didn't go right for her so what i did was an. I really didn't trust that old mac to keep going. I mean it really should have been retired long before we did. So i made a. I just took a a spinning driving copied all of the data onto i didn't do a carbon copy cleaner backup. I didn't do a time machine backup. What i did was literally. Just go through her files and folders manually dragon all the stuff. I know where she keeps her stuff and just gave that to her and as she's needed it she's put stuff on it and then i've still got the old the old mac pro drawer. I'm going to have to. I think apple will recycle it. I don't think there is any way this thing worth anything at this point but them i wanted to Just keep it around for awhile just in case anything else went wrong. But that's all kind of settled down now and she's got the data she needs. I believe there was an there was an update to big sur early on in the apple silicon timeframe that fix migration issues and so you may have just been there before. That's all update. I think it was my You know unfortunate wife became a victim of my early adopter. Oem's no yeah happens. My family all the time. Yeah but but so it happens occasionally but even if you have a migration go wrong. It wasn't the end of the world. You know we were able. It's not like the migration like zeros out the drive on the source computer. That mac is still there and it still works and you can still get data off of it so you're actually selling me really on migration assistant today. I'm thinking like the next time. I have great. I'm just going to do that. Because is a lot of work to rebuild. Yeah i think. I think it'll be smooth sailing from here on out with the m one's at one thing..

"It's it's really fast and so two to use what comes out of the box and like setup assistant it's gonna wanna do whatever the network but you can put your old mac and what's called target disk mode and then connect it with a thunderbolt cable. you can use a thunderbolt two to three adapter. If you have thunderbolt to on a machine. I don't know how far back you can go. I don't know if you could go to like fire. Wire thunderbolt three. I mean you can with a doubt. I don't know target this mode would work over that many parallel port. Yeah oh man. Now visited challenge. I i have to go deal with And so if you're if you're moving from an old back that's another option if you don't wanna do it over the network in the case that you're moving from an apple silicon mac to another one a getting into target. This mode is a little bit different a little bit more complicated than it used to be. But it's still relatively easy just a few steps and basically what this does. Is it turns your mac into a big external hard drive and set up. Assistant can go in there and pull all the data over that super speedy direct connection. Yeah and we've got articles in the show notes are all this stuff. We're not going to go into the nitty gritty of it. But be aware to in one max or to also future steps. Which is i think what. I'll probably be doing that at some point. You know like. I don't know what i'm gonna buy next but i probably would get if they came out with an m one extroversion of the mac mini. I would probably buy that. I think i probably at this point would just do migration for that. Yeah i think so. You know if i ended up with a fourteen inch pro some point i would just migrate over thunderbolt and be done a as as you would expect with apple's tool you have a lot of control over what you move so you can move. Just your home folder. You can move just applications just settings and you can drill down. Say i want my documents but on my downloads and and one nice feature of it is it tells you how much space The data that you're moving will take up and how much space you have left on the the new mac. And so if you're in the situation where you're moving to a mac with a smaller. Ssd it will let you know before it attempts to move too much stuff over so it's It's very helpful. Lots of nice little touches and setup assistant so you have lots of really nice control and information about what's going to happen and then you can also recover or rebuild or migrate from a time machine backup. So if you're if you're mac falls lake and you still have your time machine backup. You can still migrate. Yeah yeah absolutely. And it works the same as coming from another mac you can use either setup assistant on a new computer or migration assistant on existing computer. You just plug in the time machine drive.
