"And just in doing a little research brushing up for the show I came across something from a web M. D. really enjoyed it the the clear creatine may not just be for jocks anymore they know creatine boosts athletic performance but it appears to boost our brains performance as well J. bottom line the brain even though it's just two percent of our body's weight it burns twenty percent of the body's energy that's incredible thirsty organ for energy increase team is there boosting our creatine phosphate reserves so that our brain is chronically in its high energy state that's how we can think really really well so researchers have done some amazing research here they found that creatine actually helps the brain to utilize oxygen they found that vegetarians who took creatine scored better on intelligence tests now seniors had better memory they had better number recall they had better spatial recognition and all rights in only two weeks and then add another as you walk into a room you put your keys down here where are they now that's spatial recognition that was supported five days I loved this one five days of eight grams of creatine just five days supported mental tasks in subjects that we're getting rapid fire question J. scientists were asking them math questions in science questions over and over and over they found the folks on creatine didn't fatigue is quickly mentally get this a group of people that were kept up for twenty four hours to see how creatine affected that area of health their mood state better and their their memory was sharp and they just were able to do things I twenty four hours when other people couldn't do it and you know you like to call it like your creatine reserves if you think about your energy a little bit like a bank account you know if you start running and using and spending all the money in that bank account you have like a deficit situation you would think after being you know push for twenty four hours people would have been absolutely exhausted they were probably tired but the people on creatine were less tired because when you boost those reserve right you've got something that you can use as fuel well we aren't we you said earlier we make less as we age but also a lot of people don't eat as much meat and certainly and that's where you can get creatine from its in meat if you're a vegetarian you basically get no creatine right I'm looking at a study where they looked at brain function in vegetarians they found anywhere from twenty to fifty percent improvement in some measures of memory and intelligence on these cognitive tests so it is absolutely crucial like chance said to make sure that your stores of creatine right R. S. filled up as possible and the easiest way to do it is with a good supplement like ever strong Hey you know here's a study that British journal of nutrition this goes back to two thousand eleven the influence of creatine supplementation on the cognitive functioning of vegetarians and omnivores just to what you were saying J. you get you're creating in this study they had a little more creatine twenty grams a day in vegetarians better memory but for both the omnivores and vegetarians right right now look one of the igus concerns people have as they start to get older is losing their muscle mass it's called sarcopenia it's a normal age related issue you get older your you tend not to be as strong as you used to be but it could be problematic in terms of allowing you to live life to its fullest to be able to do the things you want to do to list things maybe to play with your grand kids just carrying groceries becomes a little bit of a of a of a challenge sometimes as you get older so Dr Levin for people just tuning in let's recap real quick what is creatine and how can it help people especially older people build up that strength and vitality okay doesn't work so first let's just identify the problem you just talked about sarcopenia because yes we I see this all the time as people get older their legs get skinnier they lose their their **** off muscles there gluteal muscles is just very common we all know this but here are the facts beyond that age age of fifty your muscle tissue is losing strength to the tune of about one point two to one point five percent a year yeah I just hit over fifty you're actually losing muscle tissue to the tune of about point eight percent per year so in other words we're losing muscle every year and the muscle we have is not as strong however when you supplement with creatine I'd like a supplement with ever stronger as I feel it's the finest creatine out there I try to help formulate the.

D. because so many people talk on the radio and you don't know who they are what they're talking about or whether talking about things that make sense or totally nonsense that's true in life to so many people talk talk talk so many people give patients my patients advice serve patients who were told things by their friends and well meaning friends and trying to do the best they can to support their friends but often the people that are giving advice really don't have much medical knowledge or background or understanding of complex issues I could tell you that I've been involved in medicine I started medical school decades ago twenty forty this year forty more than forty five years ago and so for forty five years that's all they do.

"You about the real reason I called you was because I was amazed when I found out you also suffer from panic attacks and I thought wow this woman actually has severe panic attacks and is able to be so successful in and build these incredible houses which I'm just I'm amazed by both but at that moment a conversation I don't know that right you just go into the whole thing with your mom of you back when it's not silly stuff all right yeah I was shocked that you call me back okay initially by alkali people back so I can't simply me including my own kids okay because they always want something from me anyways there only consulates thing so anyways R. E. begins to tell a story and he says to me I've been following you half my life and I went well kid how old you he says I'm nineteen I'm like okay well I've only been the public eye for fourteen years so I guess that would be more than happy life and he said yes I saw you in the chronicle and then you show and I followed you and I can finally have put a face to the woman that I was driving by look at all these houses okay and then are he says to me you know I'm really impressed that you've done all this with panic attacks and by the way I don't know if I'm supposed to bring that up because my friends tell me that's not probably appropriate stop the conversation that way but it seems you're very publicly a panic disorder and I'm gonna be you know open about mine I'm like okay well let me hear from yours and then I went on playing psychiatrists and doctors I think I'm a frustrated M. D. that should have went to school for everything and I asked him I said you know Larry disease run in your family genetic you know mother father and then he went into a story that said they lost my dad at four AM yes my mom does suffer.

"You that I was you know one of the frustrations was and I hadn't checked in a couple weeks and I just decided to do it probably about a half hour ago when we got into the discussion of covert nineteen and you know talking about the specific you know demographics that it that it hits we know that we know the people that it that it hits in the underlying conditions and I made my same complaint which was I still don't know whether you have diabetes under control for example whether it affects you the same way and finally up as we were talking about it I was scanning the computer and I found web M. D. actually said you know from what they get there their research that it's the blood sugar level yeah now just found what they have to stand on high blood pressure and they're like we're not sure why it could be the high blood pressure or could be the medication you're taking for the high blood pressure that could make you more susceptible because they talk about the coronavirus attaching you know the the you know to the ace inhibitors or whatever and so they said they don't know they go we don't know but the question is that you know they're asking they're asking the question is it is it high blood pressure definitely but if you're on high blood pressure medicine and you're under control can that make you more susceptible not to getting it but cove in nineteen having a worse effect on you so at that point they don't know so just again just trying to find information on that it's something that we've talked about because a lot of people and for example I have with what they call the metabolic syndrome which means I have the whatever my Jean went off I can't believe it's four years now and but whatever went off called metabolic so you know my in my my metabolism and in my genetics kicked off the low blood sugar and the high blood pressure at the same time and so it's all under control I thought I was dead yesterday I took my blood pressure yeah that's why I really relate with Simpson what was the first clue was was he was ninety nine over fifty two with the pulse of fifty four yeah like what in my day yup my my pulse is been way lower than that before I was in the hospital one time and they had to wake me up and when you're running your resting heart rate is lower this is the him wake me up and get me my heart rate up the cyclone okay mind now once in a while it will be especially when I'm just relaxing right before I go to sleep or foreign I come into work and I'm just like this you know I've worked out during the day and I'm just completely exhausted I've been laying on the recliner for about half hour ago let me take it now and it's always my lowest normally it's like one my average probably be one sixteen over about sixty three sixty four is my normal blood pressure and my pulse is normally between like this medical information is normally between sixty two and seventy yeah so that's so that's so you just you just wonder and it you know and I'd lot of I think a lot of people do you know will it will it affect me more my part of that demographic so that's some of the stuff here that and I'll get you to research on you again this is not the be all end all now and I am not by giving out this information I am not advocating that you ingest fish cleaner I'm not no or else Nick no I want to maybe we wouldn't talk about that later I am not advocating the use of cyanide now yeah there's there's a lot of debate about alcohol about spirits online these days and I guess that is the case that people are drinking more because they're all more right now yes drinking up what I will say this I cannot say that drinking is up fifty percent but the purchasing of alcoholism fifty was up fifty percent in a Pacific time period in April yeah from you know I'm assuming they're drinking at well they could be using it for disinfectant mmhm yeah go with that sure there okay I'll never forget when I first got diagnosed with diabetes mmhm or forget going down to the restaurant there was a guy of telling the gentleman why no guy wants a boat down there and I told body goes yes same with me says not here's a solution if you want to drink what he said I'm also diabetic now here the things that you can drink vodka diets you know detainees at the diet diet seven up he's given me all the low carb low carb alcohol drinks right what does everybody converted to sugar though yeah that's what I don't I don't know about well I've I've really never I didn't I didn't take that as a okay I'm going to have ten coming today he righted down zero carbs right now I'm going through a half a gallon I have zero car I have a a all day in the I at my current employer it's been way down yeah yeah I I don't know that I get my dietary advice at a bar then again I don't know that I don't get it at a bar hi so I was I was I told him I'm perversely impressed yeah could you have done you have done all this figure eight I look I mean you know the way I look at it it's kind of a fifty fifty shot isn't it I mean it's not but who knows see that's that's I'm lucky to have really great doctors but I think to myself you know at some point along the way you know I'm gonna I'm gonna get the you know Martin mall off off of two and a half men there he was the pharmacist what do you look up and I love him I would get that doctor who cares what's what's wrong with the doc and it's none of your business you know it would be it would be my luck and then sold immediately I'd go to a bar and get some you know dietary advice from from someone at the bar and drink accordingly yes by the way I did love the get this goes back years ago but it's the one when Charlie walks in to get medical marijuana yeah from I can think of the farmer's Mart mall the pharmacist's name I mean what I forgot his name on the show yeah in he he gets a prescription and I think it's a guy from India yeah it's S. okay turn around a coffee goes oh that's bad yeah you guys are outside the prescription by any still on the cameras the prescription is faxed to him and he's still there and you can hear me hang on one second the phone's ringing he goes hello direct TV Martin goal greatness man I'm telling you but yeah I did and I just I tease my doctors well I haven't in a while they probably got sick of it but when I first got diagnosed you will does does medical marijuana ply here now now now my cholesterol is going up a little bit it can medical marijuana help no stop it in our state it doesn't help anyway yeah apparently no looks like shin that I've ever had does medical marijuana help not help so many other people but apparently it doesn't do anything for anything that I have Willie Nelson must be one of the unhealthiest people on the planet he's a friend of the show we can say that yeah that's I I I think that you know I I look at it in in in in my mind my my take out of this yeah I don't don't leave it up to me to self medicate and that's a bad idea I will let I want that I don't want that responsibility I drink it I pass out that I don't feel any pain yeah my email I wake up in the majority yeah yeah but it is in your reflection right yeah so that's my problem I hate hang overs well I can't that's one thing that I hate as I've often said to a lot of friends before certified I can have a glass of wine but if I'm two glasses of wine I can figure I can feel a small dullness in my head it's not a hang over by any means it's just and you probably recognize this error because you do what I do your mind works so quickly and we scanned stuff so much and it's developed over the years and because now everything moved news move so quickly you actually no I know how my mind is working every day mmhm I just know it and it it's a certain level of being able to scan and analyze and put it in your head to be able to do a five hour show overnight five days a week well when is specially with everything that's going on right exactly so the you know you get to know since you're doing it every single day even on weekends and you're storing all this in your mind when you're analyzing it you're doing it you get to know how your mind actually works and how quick it processes the things right I know that a five like of two glasses of wine the next day my mind just doesn't work the same way it's not a hang over any kind of way it's just a very slight don't miss that makes sense and I gets that frustrates the daylights out of me mmhm yeah it drives me crazy it's like I hate that more than anything I had a conversation with a doctor friend of mine not too long ago a couple months ago saying and we basically have the same take on it I just don't like not being in control at any point my concern was when my kids were young was that I may have to jump into the car and put my kids in the car to take them to get help or something I may have to drive somewhere now with uber throw the kids in a number and say good luck or not you can see the temptation yeah yeah no I mean I just I I don't I don't because I I always feel like I'm kind of I guess on call I don't know why you just always feel like you might get a phone call something might happen and I don't want to be in a position where I I'm not able to help or do something or drive or stand up speak speak you know yeah right well that's I will say one thing as I've gotten older.

"For the four star telegram she's been with us three now going on three time flies M. D. S. is been a loyal and faithful and trusted an important part of the operation for a long time he was with us and he was gone for a while back when AOL had the fan house operation remember that they want to import time they had a full time and then they allowed him to come back with this part time and then when fan house went under he doing this full time he's been here ever since all right I posted a tweet with some questions well asking for questions that may be accurate here I'm a I'm a professional I posted a tweet asking for you to ask me questions and now you have ask questions and I'm going to scroll through and answer them and I haven't read them in advance so it's like opening a Christmas present from you know somebody you don't know all that well you don't know what's going to be inside of it I do know the PFT PM policy account very well and he wants to know how we're gonna be back on NBCSN on Monday how will it get out to us on Monday what's gonna be on NBCSN it's here look we're just gonna have a a skeleton crew the usual number of people in the control room for the show's gonna be reduced to one Kristen Coleman is going to be there and she is going to be in charge of threading the needle and I don't think we have a lot of B. roll that's the industry term for highlights they relate to the people were talking about while we're talking about them so you know instead of a camera being on us it cuts to if we're talking about Tom Brady to be images of Tom Brady throwing touchdown passes or whatever else so it's gonna be scaled down operation but we will be back and I don't know when we'll be back to regular capacity because the idea is to minimize the number of people the NBC sports group studio up but but Sims was able to go to the studio yesterday there's hardly anybody there and we're concerned about seems Sims it seems because he does not explain and that could compromise him in the event that he contracts the covert nineteen virus next up another one from PFT PM policy now that we are potentially experiencing the apocalypse except the isolated folks in West Virginia being protected by the moth man probably are you ready to try a Chris Simms Daddy cigar before at all potentially ends yes yes just me knowing what I know and I don't know that much about the positive aspects the medicinal value the therapeutic benefit of the Chris Simms Daddy cigar I could use it right about now the way things have gone for the last week you know it's funny it's only been a week in twelve hours since that feeling that everything turned upside down the presidential address the news that Tom Hanks was positive for code nineteen and the NBA suspending its season it's only been a week and less than twelve hours and it feels like it's been a lot longer than that Jim Lovell has an important question two questions why are you called pro football talk when you don't like the hall of fame being called the pro football hall of fame that's the first question well and that's an important question Jim has something do with copyright laws see I think the hall of fame should be called the NFL hall of fame because it's not like they're letting people from the CFL in it's not like there's any arena football league standouts there are enshrined in the pro football hall of fame it's just always been called the pro football hall of fame but it should be called the NFL hall of fame because instrument arises solely and directly from your exploits as an NFL player and every once in awhile is a great NFL player and if you can boost his credential little bit by pointing to what he did in Canada like a Warren moon right or bud grant his time coaching in Canada before he took the Vikings who three super bowls the fourth one was Joe cap is the head no joke cap with the head coach who was the head coach he taken before maybe it'd taken before I'm sorry he did taking before I'm thinking Fran Tarkenton print target in with the quarterback for three Joe cap with the quarterback for the other one but Graham was the coach for all four but you know you pump up the resume a little bit with what the person did in Canada that's the only time it's ever relevant for me I can't call it NFL talk dot com if I did at some point in the past twenty years the NFL would have forced me to stop R. when I first got.

"He J. you know if you talking about technology computers are based off of the internet something related something's not always optimistic and having a good time that's right our man every day is another day to shine that's right and be successful and have fun and spread some light you know I know that sounds a little Pollyanna but it's true be happy let's go to the phones let's see what Scott is happy about Scott what's going down good morning Leri you know at least if we have to be shut ins with this covert ninety nineteen none you could be master stairway to heaven on everyone of your guitars I would take a while oh god boy that's an old song one called escape it was like the longest guitar solo so anyway I I was gonna really ask about A. M. D.'s new Threadripper series the they look really good in terms of speed and everything there is to beating everything except the problem I think because I've been hearing about the heat the excessive heat and I don't really have a good I know you know unless you get some exotic cooling system for the chips I don't think I really want that machine yeah I mean he becomes a problem and with these guys second generation or newer generation chips that's an expensive trip to he is is that something you gotta look out for you know cool properly things are okay when you're cooling fails it's a problem I don't know I I don't chase Z. every bit as speed anymore I T. C. six and C. and some other things I think you know for people chasing every frame per second the camera are mostly video gamers and or data miners I'm trying to do crypto currency mining these GPUs for that but I don't know yes I think the machines are built properly.

"Learn number one so you get better care so if something god forbid happens to you or your loved one you're better prepared and that's one big issue education number two was just learn about the human drama the human condition and there's so much drama on Broadway you're sure to buy a ticket for a hundred dollars for a play well here is set back then learn true stories about people true stories about people going through tough times learning how they solve their issues also learn what happens when they go to some of the super duper his biggest hospitals around what they do to the patient so sit back and learn each good to have a paper and pencil you can write down some numbers and some information which I'm sure you'll want to have handy so please have a paper and pencil handy owner but introduce myself later in the show other than to say that I'm a board certified real doctor medical doctor M. D. because so many people talk on the radio and you don't know who they are what they're talking about or whether talking about things that make sense or totally nonsense that's true in life to so many people talk talk talk so many people give patients my patients advice serve patients who were told things by their friends in a well meaning friends and trying to do the best they can to support their friends but often the people that are giving advice really don't have much medical knowledge or background or understanding of complex issues I could tell you that I've been involved in medicine I started medical school decades ago twenty forty this year forty more than forty five years ago and so for forty five years that's all they do.

"R. M. D. save a lot of people wonder what's the right age to retire is there one age that's right for everyone does it just matter how much you've saved in that determines your date no see these are big questions I know that you get from a lot of the people come to see you in your office and one of the big ones is this have I saved enough for retirement is is there a way to know that that's for sure that we get that question all the time and I'll tell you imagine the basic answer take all of your assets that you believe can generate income if you have stocks and bonds and mutual funds if you have a four oh one K. take everything that you have got dedicated towards generating income now multiply that by say three and a half or maybe even four percent that's your annual income before taxes now add on your social security benefits if you're going to be receiving social security if you're one of the lucky ones who actually has a pension remember those links pensions not too many too many of them around anymore you anywhere between yeah really so if you have a pension add that in as well this is going to give you a very rough pre tax idea of your income but I gotta tell you there is there so much more to discuss on top of that that can truly affect the results like do you have too much risk in this type of portfolio will this income be sustainable if you live past age ninety is the income inflation adjusted yeah if you're married if you're married is this income is it going to be guaranteed for your spouse because I got to tell you one thing hate to talk about this but it's a life we got a face the facts and that is there's a very very very high probability if you're married that one of you will pre decease the other we know that is a fact so what happens there one social security will stop tax filing changes income could be twenty thirty forty percent lower but the living expenses many times are the same so there's a lot in addition what about taxes what about health care what about your family you've got to have a written plan it's got to.

"Supposed to take my R. M. D. for the first time at the end of this year I know I can delay it until April first is there anything I need to do before that time well you want to make sure that you're you're paying attention to the secure access the that's been passed in in to change the arm the age of seven and a half to two seventy two so if you had not yet turned seventy to half by the end of two thousand nineteen you don't have to take your arm D. until you turn seventy two now so that's a change has been made so that that may push off your arm D. for some time if not we can go ahead and and just sit dress the the question there there's really nothing you need to do other than take the the the Sir distribution by April first like you're saying it's just important to note what year you do turn seven and a half for example thought was in twenty nineteen then you have the April first of twenty twenty three going to take that RD distribution so it's just a matter of of getting with your financial institution and making sure that that check gets cut so to speak before that date or you'll be on the hook for pretty significant penalties so yeah you're you're taking or they want or not as soon as they have been always on top of it there's no stopping it there's there's no way to really get around it at this point the game theory there it's it's going to be required but yeah just make sure that if you are taking it that you need to take it like I said the secure out change some things up there at the end of two thousand nineteen and the whole really the whole industry is still making sure we have that figured out and and that and all the institutions or making sure all their policies are in place to to follow it correctly so get maybe give that a little bit of time but certainly he you're very soon that that should be figured out and everybody will know what's going on but that was a big change from RD for your situation was that was a big change army chaining from seventy to half two seventy two so if that that affection I we congradulations you can put it off for a little while longer if not make sure you get the distribution out by April first the R. does stand for required so keep that in mind but that is a a really good question to ask you got to make sure you stay on top of those required minimum distributions and there has been that recent change with the secure act so you want to learn more about the secure act about some of these other common retirement mistakes in issues that often arise and you want to learn a little bit more about these things with some of your peers we do mention all the time here on the show that you should come to one of our dinner and discussion seminars we can get not only dinner on us but also some great financial and retirement education will talk about the annuity trap taxes what to know about why procrastination is such a big problem for many people when it comes to their financial plan especially for talking about required minimum distributions you don't want to cross the Nate on those which in this case the.
