Crillon also head on over smoking smithfield dot com where you can potentially on the committed cooks program. We'll find out more about that next month as smithfield is also renewed for twenty one. I think alluded to that earlier so looking forward to that. We are now into august. Because mike lane closed down july talking about steak. Malcolm was back on the show early part of august and he talked about the youtube channel hot barbecue. Right crossed over the million subscriber mark. That's right that happened this year about midway through and we talked about that particular benchmark and what it meant for him and his wife or shell. We did a little background again about how he got started into that. And you know little look back on the whole how to barbecue right life and genesis. First time guests to the show steve shea zor from lyon energy came on to talk about their solar power power options for all of us live fire cookers. Then i thought this might have been a bigger product in twenty twenty but perhaps twenty twenty one will be more of a breakout year for them amongst the lie fire industry. I'm not saying that it wasn't successful. The did seem to be quite a length of time literally days before he showed up on my show where they were out of stock. They were doing a lot of private label stuff. I believe steve said they were starting to run that back a little bit and take control to resell it on their own again through some of the big box stores and whatnot but lyon energy though is a great conversation so again if you were looking for something. That was a little bit more green and did require a gasoline generator depending on. What kind of a loggia running energy might have been an option for you so check them out. Also in august. Sean wall chef from kelley. Bbq media announces expansion during the covid crisis through the use of something called ghosts. Kitchens term. I was not overly familiar with at that point. Judging and she said that she score down like audio on tape that i had the cheese scores down specifically for a stake not having grill marks so terrel came on the show to explain her position while i asked her and she came on to explain her position and in the end. If you go back and listen to. She walked back quite a bit. It was a fun segment. She's a very accomplished judge. I wanted to have her on through the year. Just like i want to have other people on or are the people back through the year and then things just get away from me. So i wanna talk to her. She's like one of the head judges at world through championships at very cops. Also a very accomplished competitive cooked specially when it comes to dutch oven cooking so we'll try and get her back on in twenty twenty one. But that's why i was so jazzed to have her on august thirteenth so i could take her to task on her saying i score down on grill marks which is totally against the judge in august also. "But we also do in in Costco like the Costco road shows and so If you are lucky to catch a line energy representatives at your local costco on weekends, then they will most likely have elsies availables. Well, until you get the LT, what are you recommending to pair solar panel? Wise to make most efficient? Well. The we sell hundred Watt, twelve solar panels and. One of those. Can really make all the difference. You'll max out the solar it charging input with two of those so. A lot of the pro barbecue guys have ended up with two panels. Are It's very important to them. You know they don't run out of power even if it's a little bit cloudy or something like that outside on any kind of normal sunny day. One panel is going to be able to offset the power of one smoker. Pretty dependably, I would say very dependably. So having two panels to offset the power. Output of two smokers what I would say would also be a good idea with the safari emmy bigger that we talked about before for some of your larger teams. That can take up to. unperfect son six panels would max it out with a little bit less than perfect son up to eight panels. You know could max it out. So but a similar idea there you could get one panel. I may even say like three panels, every two smokers something like that. You know one panel is a bit more than one smoker needs. But, yeah, you can really you really offset how much you're draining your unit by just adding some solar panels and you could end the day full and then continue hours into the night with a long brisk cook or something like that, and not have to worry about losing power. What am I looking at all in price for a Lt Unit and then a pair of solar panels roughly. Good question on the Lt Five, eighty, five on our website as you were showing before we do have. Some kits that are available. Under the packages tab on our website, if you under packages, there's like an off grid camping. Package was pretty cool We also have an lt ultimate kit which I believe is right at right around a thousand dollars I wish will include two panels as well as the LT unit. So that would be that would be all in. Doron thousand bucks. Right for the Lt plus the two panels. So from a cost efficiency standpoint or or comparable to. I don't know what a Honda generate that seems to be like the real popular one because they're supposed to be very quiet. I would imagine the safari a much less quiet than even the quietest time to generator because there's no motor to be run. So and then you're not relying on gas and all this other stuff but thousand bucks. How does that compare to you know a comparable gas power generator pretty decent. yes. Especially like you were saying for some of the anyone that's just a backyard enthusiasts or even smaller teams that are doing one or two smokers. you know those Honda generators are almost always overkill. They're almost always providing way more than you would need in that case and. That makes them really fuel inefficient to because you're running a very small power output, but you're burning the same amount of gas as if you were running a huge output. So it just doesn't make a lot of sense with these battery based units. You're only using whatever you're using. You know you're only using as much as you need in that moment and with solar, you can even offset that Yeah. So I would say it makes total sense. As you pointed out is extremely quiet. There's no gases. There's no smell associated with it may if you want to think about how loud it's GonNa get. Like the fan in a computer you know that's about as loudest that going to get. So. I think it's a no brainer. The people that I've worked with do barbecueing. Have said only good things right they've really enjoyed having it so. Steve their words Stanford Tries shaves her joining me here on the show and he is the director of technology over at Lyon Energy Line Energy Dot com is the website and for the competitors you're probably looking at these safari lt which are now in stock. So check it out Steve Guy we can link back up again and really appreciate all the insight for the company and what you're up to thanks so much for Donna. Thank you very much. Greg you gotTa have Larry Is. Steed the Shadier from Lyon Energy. And now I WANNA know who's down who's going to get on the solar bandwagon who wants to get all of this stuff. I KINDA DO I like new stuff I like to be semi green, all that. Fred. Sanford Greg can get a hello in Toledo Ohio hello don't. Home of Tony Pacos pickles. My? Favorite. Anyway aside from rusty and the. Anybody else has experience with the Lion Energy Product. Please write to me and let me know your experience. What's worse than when you're at a barbecue competition and you run out of power or the power goes out. That's not good. This potentially put you in age RIBISI position. Great stuff. And again, with two panels and the the bank or whatever the hell you call it. About grant than the packages said around a thousand bucks I. Don't know if they're shipping in that or not but. At least thousand bucks for the whole kit and caboodle two panels and the Lt. Pretty. Pretty gig done. So's Mardi rich he's in. By the way. Thanks for watching Marty. Let me talk to you quickly about Green Mount Grills as we talk about pellet cookers, grab that Lyon Energy and then plug in your Green Mountain. Grill of course, if you follow me on the social media's, you know I finally put together the Prime Daniel Boone over the weekend. The great news is this. Home I. It goes together. So simply out of the box even when you miss the very first directional part about keeping it in the box to put on the legs, you can still do it on its side I did. and. It only costs me like ten extra minutes I had it together in an hour or less. I'm pretty handy now that I think about. And then we did the burn in than we did pizzas. You follow me on social media. You tell me all about that but the prime line I can attest to this as much as I have said for weeks, and perhaps even a year now that the. Bill is more robust. It's got the great side shelf but collapses. The movable heat deflector they went back to the full. Stainless drip pan. "Week reboot and thanks to the Anthony Luhan from the pitmasters podcast, I bring back the director of technology at Lyon Energy Steve Shades of to show and to talk solar energy and how it could benefit you the backyard cook as well as you the competition cook and we're doing it from the pit master podcast in the Great City of Utah. So we raised to the hotline and welcome back. Steve. Steve Harvey Pal. Great. Greg. Thanks for having me back. Guess what Audio's great? No doubt. Anthony and I only for seventeen hours yesterday to make sure that the audio was good. So let's go ahead and run it right back from beginning little background you personally professionally, and then we'll build into the line energy stuff. Sure so My background is in electrical engineering degree huge barbecue enthusiasts, of course that doesn't hurt. I've been at Lyon energy now for. Seven years. And about the last four is the director of technology. And We make portable power. You know power storage is really what we're all about ad. In this case, the product we're talking about is portable. and. It has a great. Impact a great. Application when it comes to outdoor grilling, right because now these grills smokers, they need power to run, and that's what we're interested in providing people. Wherever. That may be. Director of technology sounds like a very important capacity with the company. Are you driving the technological vision of the company trying to push the envelope as it were? Part of it I was working primarily an engineering before which had a lot more impact on the individual products Now my focus is more on. The software that we use to run our business and on the website and. Everything that goes along with that. So You know our digital presence I guess. Is a lot about what I do but. During the time that the Safari Lt, which is the product we're talking about the moment was being created I. Did have a pretty large impact on that product the time Steve's Jay's joining me here on the show lion energy dot com, the website. So do you have a quick thumbnail background of how lion energy came to be and how it got off the ground? Yes Oh originally. Originally we had more focus in emergency preparedness and we focused more on doing whole sale and we focused on. You know we were selling to we were making price for other companies and putting their name on it. For several years and So in the past few years with you know at least five years of experience. During, the time I had been here we started going more direct to consumer and started to push more of the line energy brand instead of making products for other companies and so That's been going really well for us and this barbecue market has really been a big part of that as well, which is always a market that I'm happy support. Is there a good margin in or is there? Is there a better margin going direct to consumer versus private label? Typically in the market people would say, yes. Really we just want to be able to have a positive impact as a company and have people know that it's line energy? Building a brand, US is not so much about going direct to consumer and having a better margin It's more about having people know that there's a company out there that's got back and it's going to provide good products and good service and being able to be recognized as that company. And just be powering a lot of pellet smokers. Successfully let's talk about some items that you are offering. The consumers were obviously going to be talking about the far as lt but what else have in the portfolio? So. At like I said we focus on power storage and we try to cover the whole spectrum from very small all the way up to a very large so. If you go to our website, you'll see that we have products ranging from power banks. All. The way up to Y- batteries that people can use in their RV's We also do whole home storage, right. So you could you know the converters in the battery backups that people use for off grid homes and cabins and things like that. Are also available. Right now are lithium batteries are also very popular. Like I was saying for those typically used as replacements for our or they're used. Like for trolling motors and boats the Safari Lt has gained a lot of. Traction in the barbecue community because it's lights ten pounds, it's has the.

"Now come be known. And he revisits US right here in August as we make the press through Q. Three. So catch up with Stephen, after Stephen couple of weeks ago we will We tried to talk with a Steve Shazier from Lyon energy that didn't work out too well phone gremlins of some type or another, but it did make for a great production. So we cut it short and. Two weeks later. Here we are to rebooted again. So if you are down with solar power, if you WANNA get away from generators if you want some of these kinds of options, then you're gonna WanNa stay tuned and check out Steve Shazier as we talk about line energy and the products that they have to offer and who's in best position to take advantage of these products. So that Steve The shazier it's a full hour of Steve and Stevens believe. Totally coincident. Then we moved to the second hour. We had a little shuffling as well this month because Sam, the cooking guy was celebrating a thirty fifth wedding anniversary in the first Tuesday Robin Lindores slid into his spot SAMA sliding into Robin's typical spots. So Sam, the cooking guy will be filling in here for the second hour plenty to get to as it relates to Sam not the least of. Which is his latest few recipes amongst many other items? So we have a jam packed I our one, six, two, two, zero, zero, nine, six, six, and we have a jam packed Second Hour Greg at the bbq central show dot com, your email address. A lot of you took time to wish me and my oldest and my wife safe travels getting her back to college this past weekend, of course. She wasn't there twelve hours and her and the rest of her dorm mates. Fourteen Day Quarantine because. One of those six dorm mates, the rooms are not set up as your traditional hallway, and then you know rooms all down the hallway you get up to the room, and then there are two separate hallways and at the end of hallways, there's four separate doors in within those four doors are contained four rooms, two singles to double. So six persons or six people Peru. And one of them. Tested a symptomatic thankfully. Positive for corona virus now. Getting back to me, we're all here what's going on in the bigger campuses UNC's already shut down after a week college kids are going to college kids but these guys are athletes they were doing it the right way. My concern in this particular instance is the lady that had tested positive for corona virus. was tested a week ago Monday and the results didn't come in until sometime Saturday afternoon. Yeah. What is going on? You can't give them in two days or three days or four days hell. If we could have got him on Friday morning, we could have. All of this but instead, they're all hanging out on Friday? And then through Friday evening and then Saturday the call comes in they take the one that is positive. Put Her in the isolation dorm that they have set up on campus to the girls that were coming out on Sunday immediately sent out somewhere else so they're not involved, but then three of them, which one of them happens to be my daughter. is now quarantine in the dorm with her two other volleyball mates for the next fourteen days, which begs the question at the of fourteen days. Do they get tested. I would imagine. So do they have to then contain Utah isolate for what could be another five or six days until they get the results back they can't go out any earlier how can you leave without result? Can Be that long. It takes that long. For some people you can get tested and you get immediate results or they're within twenty four hours, people and high ranking government states are getting tested daily. This. Lady was tested on Monday and didn't get the results until Saturday. Wow. That's troubling. So we'll see what happens. Good. Thoughts are passed long. I know I. Thank you in advance for that. So that's how our weekend looked this past week now getting back to the show last week. And specifically meet had not covering his grills and this is why the show was great meathead and I get into an argument over him not covering as grills last week. If you missed the show, you didn't get the podcast yet. Here's a sampling of how that sounded. Never had an issue with rust. What do you keep outdoors in Chicago not covered uncovered. I'm coming. I don't even have a cover for. For seven years now, not a spot arrest on. Can you believe this guy? Unbelievable. Three Thousand Dollar Pellet Cooker and refuses roundly rebuffs the notion. That he should have. A grill cover on that grill three, thousand dollars I mean. If you have a collector's edition car I, see these people that have large amounts of coin. "And ways to use this product or these products is the director of technology at Lyon. Energy. We. Welcome. First. Timer Steve. Steve. For having me. In and out, Lick your finger and stick it out the window. Better. It sounds like it might be getting a little bit better. Appreciate you making time here for the show before we get into a lion energy and the products and all that stuff a little background about yourself professionally personally, and we'll build it from there. Okay, yeah, just let me know us I can't hear me. Don't move you sound gold right now. Oh. Perfect. Okay. I won't move So. Yeah. I I went to study electrical engineering. Working. Right before. And now, I've been here. seven going on eight years now. More in a few hats during that time. But like you said that the I'm director of technology. You know it. Or website or internal software and systems and stuff like that. The past also. Work especially face and am an avid lover of all things barbecue. That's most important here on the barbecue. Center show. You're not an avid lover of all things barbeque although if you can believe it or not, and I don't want to digress too far. But back a number of years ago. One of the most prolific and successful competition cooks on the scene actually hated barbecue I I'm not sure exactly what drew him into the competition barbecue. It was just something he thought he could be good at, but I remember asking him. You know a couple years after we had had our original introduction to each other and he had been on the show and I said. Something in regards to how do you eat it at home or something? He's like Oh Greg I. Absolutely Detest Barbecue. I, won't eat it and it was completely mind blowing especially as something as intimate is cooking and especially barbecue, there has to be a passionate. Let me rephrase that you think there would have to be some kind of passion within their or family bloodline or lineage that kind of draws you in but. Evidently. You don't have to like it in order to be one of the best barbecue cooks on the competition seen around, you find that to be surprising Steve. That is. I can't believe that Jeremy I'm i. wish everybody had TACO Tuesday. And I actually made my first brisket, just two weekends ago. I got inspired. Steve, we seem to be breaking up a little bit again. Can you start wandering around and see if we can sell? I'm often struggling with brisk at and I've probably cooked damn near fifty I. Think I need to spend more time? Dedicated to cooking a number of briskets in a row to get the process down, I think I become frustrated with a mediocre brisket, and then I might take a couple months off before I cook the next one, and instead I probably should be doubling down and you know cooking another one, the next day, and perhaps two or three the following week. Exactly. Yeah. That sounds. So from a lion energy standpoint, Steve talked to me about how the company begins It's a genesis story and then how you got on with them. And came out of. Our. Steve I'm struggling here. Man Like It's really bad. So. I don't know if there's some other way we can connect or. There's somewhere else you could go. I don't know. It's pretty bad connection. Do? Yeah. I'M GONNA. Terminate on my end if you WANNA try and call back in maybe. Maybe that'll work a little bit better. I'm not going to sit there struggle through that I can tell you. Sir. That's too bad I'm I was all geeked. You know the one thing that you can't anticipate. When it comes to testing phone connections. Is. Any type of reliance on text messaging because text messaging works. No matter what. You could have the crappiest cell phone signal ever. And a text message will get through. However. Right. One more time. Only one more time. Steve. Hey. That sounds bad. Okay, we're. We're good for now. So we'll see how it goes I was asking you to give us a little genesis story of Lion Energy. Of course. Yeah. So the original idea of wind energy. Came from people. And then quickly grew into. Wanting people were. Able to you know. Independence. In whatever, wherever situation? and. So. You know one of the things that we talked about I was on the pitmasters podcast a couple of weeks ago. And we talked about how you know with a small unit. Like our Safari L. Products, it only weighs in pounds. You can facet definitely go anywhere whether it's your backyard. In the shade whether it's camping. You know me where you WanNa, go like a ten town. My son can carry it around. US enough power. that. Some guys that are going to these competitions can run to smokers all day Saturday all day Sunday. and. You know be totally fine. Right? So they don't have to worry about. Having our accessible or any kind of interruptions and power that could ruin a brisket. and so that's really what letting energy is about if. Our. Preference, I'll power charge.
