"Each other. Whether it's listening helping another veteran in need or simply being here wherever. They're at lunch wraps up. The group celebrates that months birthdays. There's a reason why heroes cafe meets toward the end of the month for veterans onset incomes. It can be a tough time. Funds might be low and they can't afford to buy food so heroes cafe provides breakfast and lunch and before they leave their sent home with boxed up sandwiches and extra food when walterman not organizing heroes. Cafe he's busy collecting cold weather clothing or personal hygiene kits for donations or helping veterans in. Need whether it's someone moving out of transitional housing or finding a used motorized cart for someone recovering from surgery. So little things in life that you know we try to elevate their quality of living and make sure that their quality of life is is the best possible because they serve their country. He rose cafe has inspired similar efforts elsewhere in the region. There's a hero's cafe in shoreline in edmonds. There's a program called. Got your six from the military phrase. Mother whose son steven was killed in iraq by in two thousand four and it was important for me to carry on what type of mission i thought would be a value to honor his legacy. Every month in tamaki organizes the meals and directs other volunteers to make sure guests are fed. Their coffee cups filled. Gary walterman i heard about a similar group in wisconsin. Five years ago the air force veteran knew then he wanted to start one in snohomish county for walterman the impetus was more than sharing meals and fellowship back in two thousand sixteen when we was kicking this thing around. The suicide rate among servicemembers was twenty two per per day and we had to. We had to do something and say we have to help. Stop this overall. The suicide rate for veterans remains high one and a half times higher. That of the general population walterman says the transition from active duty. Back to society is difficult. They're few people to talk to about their experience would understand. They end up feeling isolated. And you have somebody to talk to. You can get stuff off your chest you know. We all know something festers inside. It's usually not a good outcome. Walterman says heroes. Cafe is a safe place for veterans to open up until their stories. Isolation isn't the only challenge facing veterans fried shame guilt. Yeah shannon sessions a lynnwood council member served in the first desert storm in the air force as veterans. The key thing to appreciate and not try to reject is that we are moving to a digital first world for every industry and so it's really important that you begin to If you have not already done so think about your business from a digital first perspective i would say one of the easiest things that you can do believe it or not is the strategic social selling now that being said it's not that easy right. It's not a flip the switch. It's a big change in behavior. But i say easy in the sense that it's a training. It's a methodology. There's some coaching that goes along with it. Dennis stockton was moved into the cellblock. Dennis was convicted in a murder-for-hire plot in stuart virginia a small town in the blue ridge. Mountains dennis would keep a diary of his experiences at mecklenburg which would later become the most insightful document detailing what life was like inside. Virginia's death his diary was the basis of a book co written by joe jackson the first inmate to approach. Dennis was lynnwood a day or so. After dennis arrived lynnwood picked up a chair from the day room. Placed it in front of dennis's cell door sat in it and introduced himself. Dennis knew who lynnwood was even though dennis lived two hundred miles south west of richmond. The briley gang's crimes had made news all over the state not long into the conversation. Dennis and the briley served on death. Row the same time as another high profile inmate. Joe giradi tano. Joe had a history of crime violence drug abuse and mental problems at thirteen. He tried dying by suicide. His father had abandoned him and he wouldn't meet him until he was an adult. The to finally met in florida both of them were inmates. At the infamous union correctional institution outside stark. Joe was taking after the father. He barely knew not long after his return to virginia. Joe was convicted of killing a forty four year. Old woman and her fifteen year old daughter inside their home in norfolk. Joe was the mothers roommate. The home had been known as a party house where visitors regularly came and went one night. In february nineteen seventy-nine police found the bodies of the victims. They had been fatally stabbed and the daughter had been raped. Joe was reportedly in drug hayes when he woke up and saw the two bodies. He believed he had committed the murders even though he had no memory of doing so he panicked and took the first bus out of town. He wrote.

Family members noticed a small hole and traces of blood below one of the sleeves. A funeral examiner was asked to look at orleans body more closely. He discovered what appeared to be a small bullet wound below her armpit. Orlean had been the victim of a homicide. A richmond police. Detective norman harding took a four by four and saad down so that the length was the same as the victims height. He brought the piece of wood to orleans property and stood it on. Its end in the general area where orlean had last stood. Detective harding had tracked down the ambulance driver. Who found orleans body. The driver told him where she had been lying. And that's how he determined where orlean had been standing when she was shot using the board and factoring in the bullet's trajectory detective harding scanned the area and discovered that the rifle round could have only been fired from one spot. A window from the briley home a window from lynn woods room. A search warrant was served at the home and a rifle was found. The murder weapon belonged to lynnwood. Detective harding would eventually be one of the leading investigators in this series of briley killings. That was set up by lynnwood and this lawyer pierce and the lawyer rittenhouse now. Fear that pierce could get away with two million dollars worth of the bail if written houses acquitted so this guy has been trying to explain these various crisis situations. Another one of his former legal partners has come out and said that pierce as just a fraud and a con man. Who is to everybody which i think that is really interesting because that is probably what the case is. I did try to do a little background. This guy to see if his name was actually pierce. I haven't been able to discover whether changes name. Not but he might have just gone off the grid. He might have exploited a bunch of money from these defendants and he might be gone now because he doesn't really care. This illustrates just how conman reigns supreme in times of crisis. They will do anything. Read these books. About how conman operate and then apply to the bigger politicians. This guy's just a more lower level mid level conman but when we look at the actual politicians in suits that are speaking to television. They're doing the same thing just in a more professional slick way..

Vj motion where represented carter page in an unrelated litigation and that got appealed all the way up to the delaware supreme court collateral appeal and in arguing before the collateral arguing before the delaware supreme court lynnwood said the superior court the trial court here abused its discretion and should not have kicked lynnwood out of the state basically so the precise argument the supreme court the superior court that's the trump has abused its discretion by suicide bonday revoking appellant l. woods proxy j. privileges where the revocation was based upon conduct unrelated to the litigation for which would was admitted to practice proxy jay. Where the conduct in those other jurisdictions was not found to have violated any of those jurisdictions professional rules of conduct and where woods conduct before the superior court the trump met the requirements of the delaware rules of professional conduct and did not threaten to prejudice the fairness of the proceedings. This is a losing argument in the delaware supreme court it also reveals the shell game. He's saying delaware. I haven't been disciplined anywhere else so you shouldn't disciplined me here. And and then he's going to michigan and saying well. You shouldn't get section me here. Because i'd have anything to do with this case but the problem is literally the opening paragraph in this brief. This is the statement of fact section. It's page four. And these are his own words council. Appellate l. lynnwood is a well-known attorney who enjoys a stellar reputation in his home state of georgia where he is licensed to practice law. I mean there's an open disciplinary proceeding against him but he decided not to add that with woods. Reputation comes a degree of notoriety attributable to his involvement in numerous high profile cases around the united states where he has been admitted to practice before both state and federal tribunals on a proxy vj basis by way of illustration would represented plaintiffs challenging the results of the two thousand twenty presidential election in michigan and wisconsin period. So that's pretty bad piece of evidence if your argument is i don't even know where michigan right and it might shock you. It shocked me that in what amounts to forty nine pages of briefing by lynnwood. That repeat stuff. Like mr would did not file this lawsuit. He was not a party to it. He did not submit the complaint. He did not sign the complaint. He did not advocate in this court. It says that over and over again with citations cases at no point in any of those forty nine pages does paul staeblein try to distinguish woods own words in the delaware supreme court. That's not a good strategy. And i will tell you that. The city of detroit's supplemental brief mentions all of that again right and is like look for the first rate that various other council have said that lynnwood was one of the drivers of this lawsuit. Which again is represented in the record. That you know. Sidney pal tried to fall on her sword for the first time ever at the very end of this hearing and just don't buy any of them so for example david says would admitted during the hearing that he offered his services as a trial. Loyal to powell in connection with this case. That alone satisfies the michigan rules of professional conduct. Rule eight point. Five criterion of an attorney who quote offers to provide services. He's right that's the law. It's very very clear. Lynnwood is getting sanctioned. Couldn't avenue a nicer. He has one more argument. That that think rightly makes fun of which is well. I didn't practice in this jurisdiction. Because i didn't even try to get admitted. And that would be. Like if i went into idaho. And said yeah. I'm a licensed. Idaho thirty started appearing in various cases and was like. Oh well you know. i'm. I'm where there must be some error in the computer. Whatever and then take a whole bunch of people's money and flee the state of idaho state of idaho. Absolutely can sanction me for doing that. Because i'm evading the very rules that are tempted to apply. So that rule. Eight point five subsection a says all-year not admitted in this jurisdiction is also subject to the disciplinary authority of this jurisdiction if the lawyer provides or offers to provide any legal in this jurisdiction. Right the conspiracies around dominion voting systems basically gaining sentence and changing trump votes to biden. You know that started on a lot of these forms and wound up in those legal filings from sydney powell from lynnwood from the trump campaign that were an attempt to overturn the results and then also founded the belief of some republican senators congressmen. Who tried to deny. Joe biden certification victory so they consistently thought that those efforts would work when they didn't they deluded themselves with a sort of magical realism thinking that something would happen today. That on this stage will as joe biden's hand hits the bible that there'd be mass arrests that the national guard was really. They're not to protect the inauguration but to set the stage to have joe biden and his compatriots arrested. there was a pervasive belief. That a military tribunal would be set up in dc and that all of these folks from barack obama to bush hillary clinton joe biden kamala harris. Everybody would be arrested and tried for treason. I mean this is literally what many of them believed. I'm not exaggerating. This was the bedrock of the faith. The cunanan had that would turn out in their favor. Any word we're talking. You know to thirty on wednesday afternoon. There were still a whole bunch of folks who think that in the next ten days. It'll all the inauguration will turn out to be a ruse There is a tremendous amount of faith from these folks. Things will turn around in their favor. Any given moment that. If it's not now than pretty soon. And i think it's been horror on many of these folks to watch predictions consistently failed to come true will. Yeah you've been keeping an eye on these forums for for a long time off and on but you've also been Pretty glued to them over the past twenty four hours or so and as you mentioned. We're talking on wednesday afternoon. How of they've been handling it as you know. I trump depart. Says he wasn't supposed to then. Nothing happens at the inauguration. Then nothing happens when they inspect the troops and you know presumably knock on wood No mass arrests take place at the inaugural or whatever but like how. How do they deal with that consistent disappointment so i think there's there's kind of a handful of different camps right is a camp of coup non believers or maybe former cunanan believers who are accepting that things haven't gone their way who are posting right now on a lot of these forms saying you know what that's it i can't do it anymore. My face has been shattered. This was all a ruse. We it was sort of a triple fake out. None of the prediction come true Either q. is never real or they're overplaying their hand or whatever. Basically these folks have accepted that none of this is real I don't know that those people are going to turn around and embrace liberalism tomorrow but at the very least they seem to be disenchanted and done with this sort of far right conspiracy. Making there are other people who have kind of come to the same conclusion but to a different from a different angle. You know there were there. Were people who used to believe this or maybe who will always kind of in the same Area of belief but never quite trust the cunanan thing who are saying. Well we've been played. You know this was all just a gambit for people who make money you'll get power whatever but we have the double down on the same mission does not under the ambit of of cunanan. These are people who are probably very. Who are i know anti semitic who are you know. In some cases homophobic racist who are deeply reactionary and conservative on these are people who just fundamentally can't square a biden administration but who we're going to find a new channel for a lot of those grievances and there are going to be a bunch of people who who stick with who convinced themselves that this is all part of the plan. I've seen a theory emerged in the last day. That says the joe biden is in on it that actually joe biden donald trump working together. And this is. This is people trying to rationalize how these predictions keep failing right. You always have to find a new path to explain everything all there's always numerology that goes into it. The test is working into a bit of a standard that if you get a cycle threshold of thirty five or more that the chances of it being replication competent of minuscule. Somebody and you know we. "Hello and welcome to. Who Aviation Week's check six podcast where this week? We are at the Heli Expo. Twenty twenty conference in Anaheim California I'm Guy I noticed. The senior Serb based in Los Angeles and with me is Mike Hershberg Executive Director of the Vertical Flight Society and Tony Osborne who've courses our London bureau chief and well known rotor heads expert at four so gentlemen thanks very much for for being here Just like to say that sadly of course the start of the show was inevitably overshadowed by the tragic accident last week and which took the life of Basketball legend Kobe Brian. His daughter and several several other people on the S S. Seventy six. That crashed north of La so was a terrible moment And of course it did slightly overshadow the start of the show but and did put some sort of focus perhaps also on safety and the renewed focus. That industry always strives for but because of that accident accidents And because the accident is still being investigated the at this point. There isn't that much we can talk about on the podcast but Just is to say that. Obviously it was a tragic event. And the industry's recognizing that we we. We saw some several of the companies sort of moment silence before the press conferences. And so on. But it hasn't really been overshadowed the event in a way that perhaps we thought it might ride. Just think of one thing. There's a number of safety workshops were done on this past weekend. FAA Administrator and others it it allowed them to highlight safety even more SAFETIES core focus focus of the helicopter industry but is going to be I think a rallying cry to redouble our efforts for the Industry Roy Absolutely Mike and and so moving onto the events of the show itself of course This pretty well. The biggest news that broke in terms of the industry was the surprise acquisition of the Swiss helicopter Copter Company by Leonardo so Tony of course we're in the middle of all of that. Yes it was a real surprise. I mean they had a press conference tonight before they no clues were revealed it was. It was quite a shocker. That the next morning sort of been clearly been bubbling away for a few weeks or even a few months. We'll see aviation. We have been invited out to Sicily the month before. If you've read your most recent edition Asian of the magazine you'll seeing that Doing their flight test and Sisley. But this is a real big deal for Leonardo. It gets them back into the light helicopter market and so finally just got could be awol one nine Koala which is just one the US Navy Pilot training competition partition But now by securing the s eight zero nine. They don't have to develop a new one themselves. They literally bog in it costs. Release something like five hundred million to a billion euros to develop a new helicopter and they've got one for one hundred eighteen million euros essentially that Isabel and was is that a bit of a surprise the promise of all of the aspects of that story the fact that it was such a bargain basement price culture initially been looking for four additional owners had their their owners Lynnwood. They've been funding them for the past decade. I mean we I saw what was then. The Marinko says I helicopter in two thousand eleven and they managed to prove to produce a flying prototype in in four years and there was a lot of skeptics when I showed up here in two thousand eleven even but but since then I've gone from strength to strength. They had had some challenges. I mean they're on prototype free now and that's the one that really seems to be working. And that's the aircraft that seems to have given confidence to investors and in particular not to Leonardo that this might be a viable product. Roy Of course they did exhibit exhibit. Some design changes. Could you just talk about a few of those. Yes so we. We saw some changes to the upper. cowlings this is essentially a single engine helicopter POW by Honeywell H. E. S. nine hundred engine so two point eight five metric ton aircraft. So they've essentially made some changes to the top of the aircraft after justice of the aero-dynamics to better ride smooth ride which is something that they want. They want to try and get a smooth ride as possible because they wanted to make it easier. Easier to develop an autopilot which will then give them a single engined insurance rules and capability Rydin and Mike. Did you get a chance to go and see it on the exhibit floor. Aw I did Now also visited them at their headquarters at secon Switzerland last month and I was really impressed really by the team So they've hired a lot of X Airbus and Leonardo Bell really from from everywhere and they've really changed the the the makeup of the team that it's instead of being a Swiss helicopter using Swiss suppliers is a global helicopter using global talent and global suppliers so I think think That the new road ahead the new the the The new prototypes. That are flying. I think they've really turned the corner in the last year and obviously their her Their new owners saw that as well pretty important to remember as well. This is going to remain an autonomous unit. Going to be separate of Leonardo this is pretty. The more crucial aspects is that Copter wants to try and remain small in quite agile and speedy so Hopefully away away from the Bam off. The Leonardo it can still develop an bringing new technologies pretty rapidly. Leonardo management of talked about the copter being used as a as as a testbed for hybrid technologies for electric propulsion. And so on so the next steps should be interesting and with the backing of a big group that should help push sales els change the supply chain. It could be a game changer. For for the copter draft and Well of course talking game changers and the segue potentially into the electric field Although there weren't as many e veto type concepts here this year the with the the bell nexus showing up at last year's event There was of course still some activity and Mike. Let's see later this area so not all of those are really be likely to end up on a product right But yeah almost two hundred companies or or inventors are looking at this base and didn't do say that it's the if you average out the rate at which they've been added added they seem to be coming out of the woodwork about two two per week to March one hundred year so every January two fifty. Now it's one hundred and fifty last year about fifty the year before so it's It's almost like a mass hysteria where everybody is so excited. Needed about The potential of electric vitale. That anybody who has this idea starts to design something or maybe even flies a drone or something subscale but It's really much more complicated than that and You really have a really holistic view of of an airspace. product development because safety is really key and understand system. "Listen. There are a lot of things that changed since Friday or a lot of additional information that came in. So I thought I we would just sort of talk about what we now know about the terror attack that took place at the two New Zealand mosques one man Abdul Aziz was in the mosque. He was praying with his four sons he was in the Lynnwood mosque when he heard gunshots rather than run from the noise he ran toward it. And he grabbed the first thing he could find which was a credit card machine. And he flung it at the attacker. He hit him and the man the terrorist dropped his shotgun. Mr. picked it up. He said I pull the trigger. And there was nothing. In the meantime, the gunman ran to his car where he had other weapons and Mr. Z's followed throwing the shotgun at the vehicle and shattering a window. Mr aziza's. Actions, which and others described and interviews might just have prompted the gunman to speed away rather than return to kill more people. And it was only minutes later that two police officers from another town who were in the area ram the suspect's car into a curb and took him into custody. That's how the worst mass murderer in New Zealand's modern history came to an end the officers apprehended, the suspect only thirty six minutes after receiving the very first emergency call but interviews with dozens of survivors in an analysis of video that was recorded by the attacker as well as one that was made of his arrest by a bystander who was there suggests that the violence ended after a near miss by police at the first mosque and acts of Kerr bridge during and after the attack on the second if not for the two police officers, and they've not yet been publicly identified and Mr. Z's who had by the way, he fled Afghanistan. A quarter century ago that slaughter might have just gone on the suspect had two other guns in his car. According to police as well as two homemade explosives that. And he distributed a manifesto of white extremists hatred. Just minutes before he went on that rampage. The police said forty two. People were killed at Christ church's, Al Norma and then seven at the Lynnwood mosque. And a lot of people are saying that the reason there were only seven killed and seven is way too many, of course, but there were seven compared to forty two was because of Mr. Aziz his decision to confront the gunman. There was another victim who died at the hospital. So now there are fifty dead. And I believe forty eight injured I I'll have to check that. But it's in the high forties. The police they said they received the first call for help and officers arrived within six minutes the video recorded by the gunman which was live streamed on Facebook. Which is something we need to talk about showed a man trying to tackle him inside the first mosque. But that man was shot and killed. It was six minutes after firing his first shot that he drove away three minutes later, a siren can be heard on the video as he's Dr. To the second mosque the siren gets louder than it fades suggesting police in the gunman may have just missed each other with officers and medical personnel racing toward the second mosque as he was pulling away. The nearest police station was a little more than a mile. Although responding officers may have been farther away than that. And by the way, the frontline officers in in New Zealand. They're not armed. They're not armed and for. They have a protection the kind of protection that they wear. They wear stab proof vests, not bulletproof vests. So those responding to the shootings would have to have had to pull over and retrieve weapons that would be there a pistol, a Glock or a semiautomatic m for rifle, and then they'd also have to get ballistic armor from the trunks of their cars. The police that a special armed tactical unit also arrived at Al nor Maas, but that was four minutes at the first officers instill, it was only ten minutes after the initial emergency call it was pretty amazing. The response time one of the paramedics who entered the building with a police escort said there was a river of blood coming out of the mosque. It was literally flowing off terra cotta tiles. The authorities have. Instead an awful lot about what happened next. It's not clear when the ambulances arrived Christ's church hospital reported receiving several wounded victims in cars that were driven by relatives. I not by the ambulances initially. But the speed of the response everybody is saying the speed of the response definitely saved lives. And then as they're trying to deal with that massacre. The gunman attacked the Lynnwood mosque the imam who was leading prayers at Lynnwood Latif, a lobby said, he heard a voice outside, and he stopped and looked out a window. He saw a man in military gear wearing a helmet and holding a gun. He. Saw two bodies on the ground. He shouted to the congregation there were about eighty people there. He shouted to the congregation to get down. The gunman turned and fired through a window and just kept firing. And then Mr. ran toward him through that credit card machine. That's like the size of a small of a large rock, not a small rock a large rock. Both of them were similarly built ozzy's and the terrorist. And Z said he took five or six shots at me. He said I dove between the cars, and then he followed the guy. I mean, he not only through this thing. Adam and disarmed him. He went after he followed him the guy dropped the shotgun. Because the the machine at in him. He dropped the shotgun and picked it up and tried to fire it at him. But as he pulled the trigger it was empty apparently all the rounds had been spent and Z said his children were screaming for him to come back. And the gunman seemed really agitated he was swearing, and he was talking about killing you all when he was at the other mosque, by the way because we're talking about Lynnwood now. But when he was at L, nor he had gone back to his car. He had started the massacre left. The mosque went back to the car and picked up another weapon in went back inside and resumed his killing but not at Lynnwood after as these through the shotgun at the vehicle, and he said, he threw it like an arrow. The attacker drove away Z said it was like my mind wasn't working. It was automatic reaction. Like anybody? I was prepared to give my life to save another life. God bless you, Mr.. Because that's not like anybody. I'd like to think it was like anybody. That's like you. The officers arrived at the mosque soon afterward. And a thorns began locking down the neighborhood in searching for the gunman, but they got him quickly. They haven't talked yet about how they found him and managed to capture him without without some sort of assistance. But they were able to do just that eight hundred eighty eight ten is the telephone number eighty eighty eight ten. Yeah. So there's that. And then I want to mention one other thing, and I want to take your phone calls on this as we're still processing what happened, and let's keep in mind too that Lucille and is moving immediately to change their gun laws as restrictive as they are. And they're pretty restrictive they're going to do more. And it may involve an outright ban of certain weapons, also social media. The fact that this guy live streamed what he was doing live streamed. It it hits so many places so quickly. You know, this is dangerous to us all. Free speech is one thing. This kind of speech. I don't think should be protected speech, and how do you? But how do you stop it? What do you do? You've got the technology. What do you do? But before we do anything else. I wanna tell you about one of the victims. His name was Maud Imber him. He was wearing little White Sox the type with grips on the bottom. So that toddlers don't slip his shoes were still at the entrance where they had been removed when he entered the mosque at the time his body was carried out. He was three. He was born to Somalia family who had fled fighting in their home country more than twenty years ago. This was an outlandish movie that at the time could never become a reality, but twelve years later. In one scene, they showed the outside of a hospital where the site inch was just not thought out properly. Let alone the name, something that obviously could never happen in a real life scenario. Right?
