"He left wwe. I mean that's a very specific question but michael. I appreciate the call that i don't think the whole audience cares about. Here's how i would say. I've you see in puck is an lovie w graduate and i wish well all of our grads right shape very good answer. That's right graduate. I saw punk wrestle at the vfw. In london kentucky wants and. I didn't know who he was and i was like. Who is that man with a pepsi tattoo on his arm and I yelled at him and then a year later he was in the wwe. So i i view him as a as a wonderful young man. Five zero two five seven. Tonight we're going to do a couple more country songs. Let interested in how you look at ask you. Are you pulling for him do you. D- you consider it. The thing is rhyme very few of our players that have not succeeded here have played as much as he did. You know what i mean is who have kinda failed. Khalil whitney iran herro. They a lot of them are gone within a semester or they just spend a lotta time on the bench. There's never been that many dudes like him who played so much and then didn't have success right. Charles mathews baker using those guys can think of anybody else in the cow or even the tubby era. Who played as much as he did with out success. Maybe marvin stone might be the only one i can you like that. And that kinda minutes. He didn't get thirty minutes a game and he played a lot. Yeah nobody. I can think of had thirty minutes a game in laugh. Rodrick wrote a project looks good. Yeah i mean. Roger was good. I mean like sauce. Some people may say but he had he was good sometimes. Rodrick was really good sometimes. Yeah it was. I don't know about if we've had one like ask you. We'll take a break back. Talked to matt jones and the crew. Call the clark's puppet shop phone line at five zero two five seven one ten eighty or one eight seven seven. Nine four hundred eighty. Thank god blue and you would kentucky sports radio on talk radio ten. The song is proof. That guy's wrong. Yeah rose garden. Is rose garden by so much. Heck roses the flower she. you think. Lynn anderson's gonna sing a song. That's false shannon. No no. I think as long as you're planning something that can be a garden. I agree. Michael was wrong ryan and i think he needs to. Everybody calls it. This is my flower garden. You know. I've got to think about it later. There's a you said another example. A rose garden so brian. The intern turned post last week. Which i missed somehow. Which had the amount of minutes a game player has played and then transferred devon ask you play twenty eight point nine minutes a game this year. That's the most minutes a game. Any player under calipari has played and then transferred. Do you know who second in the cow. Period era quarte. No quality is fifth. Fourth is markedly off thirties. Kyle wiltshire who. I didn't realize how played twenty three point seven minutes a game but he did. That was off more year. The second most is ryan harrow. He played twenty seven minutes a game when he was here. Yes should have realized that yeah. Now here's the only one player. Since rick pitino has played more minutes a game than ask you and then transferred not rodrick rhodes. Rodrick rhodes is just a little bit below him. Can you guess ryan the only player since patino was here to play more minutes. A game than devon ask you in the season before he transfers. Gosh i keep thinking a guy tough. I don't think this guy's went had success. Like michael bradley. you know. He had a good career villanova but he's not ahead of him. Yeah man when. I say it you'll understand why shannon any gas No i was gonna say alison. That was ninety nine. The answer is derrick jasper derrick jasper jasper played twenty nine and a half minutes a game see. That's an interesting ryan. Because he basically left. Because billy was insane right right he he got out he knew long before we all did what was going on inside that locker room. So that's kind of that would be their jasper. He didn't transfer because it didn't work out. He just transfer 'cause he did like the coach. Yeah and in one of the weirdest things ever. He ended up being an assistant under billy. Did you ever understand that really. No never did. But you don't like you know we we've had remained talk about his respect for gillespie and the what the let those guys went through. It is tough to imagine that they still remained tight like that. Yeah well anyway. So so what happened with ask. You is a rarity a in many ways and you know but listen. I'm pulling for the kid. I hope he has success. I really do. I think he deserves. I think he's a nice guy. It just was not gonna work out here whether i it just wasn't in my opinion if he'd stayed one more year he mainly had half of those minutes next year. You know maybe he realized that and and like one thing. Aren't you kinda glad that with all the struggles we had in some ways. We didn't have a full full crowd because first of all if the arena would have had record low numbers of people there this year. Do you agree with that. Yup and there would have been a lot. More than we want more boeing. Yeah wouldn't have been a good. They just wouldn't have been good situation who's next. Let's go to john short. John short how are you hang out doing doing good. what's up. i think dante she can tell you. You're easing tangy or less than one. Hand very transylvania doors stamp something like that. I heard you got your shot yesterday in my right yes. So now you're fully vaccinated. How does it feel good. You just ready to take on the world. yep good that's what. I like to hear your. Who'd be coming for next year because we wonder is care either. I you know. I feel like that. I have not heard about the women's recruiting. Like i did the last few years. Yeah the wasn't a cassidy row. The girl from eastern kentucky. She's really the only one. I know of getting ready to come in. Yeah she's she's very good but besides her but she's been committed for like four years so i i don't. I don't really know the answer to that john. i think he's i think he's kind of quiet. Refer the then we will see what he's coming because we as right. He's come back. Yeah ron howard is coming back but the couple of the other. Young women are not that that were seniors alive to see john. I'm glad you got vaccinated. Nice talking to you. Thank you all right. Let's do the next song shannon. You're any candy. Okay we move. Brothers by the mercy of god to present yourself your body's as a living sacrifice holy unacceptable to god which is your spiritual worship and do not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewal of your mind be transformed by the renewal of your mind. Do not conform to this world. Detached from it detached from this world to him in communion with him. Let the world goal. Is it going to be easy voting. Good my dad used to like that song. It was lynn anderson. She was country singer. It's not going to be easy. He didn't promise it would be easy. It's not going to be a rose garden. He says make every effort to enter through the narrow door. Because many many i tell you we'll try to enter will be able to. It's a narrow way. It's an uphill climb. It's a heavy cross when you carry that cross this heavy. Some people in here are carrying heavy crosses right now some heavier than others. I can't even look at your face because all start crying. Because i know some of the crosses you're carrying because i know you and there's always simon of greens to help carry that cross but still dark of the night. You're the one carrying at some of the saints had bruised shoulders because they have that wound of carrying the cross. I think padre pio might have had. I have to look up which saints had it. It's very private one. They didn't tell it doesn't bleed or anything but it's just as aching from from carrying the cross. Christ lay down his human life for his bride. The church laid down his life. Every ounce of life he laid down for this bride. He loved the church. He gave himself up for her that he might sanctify her. Having cleansed her with washing water with the word that he might present the church himself in splendor without spot or wrinkle or any such thing that she might be holy and without blemish. That's what he did for us. We are his church. Corporately.

"Will take a quick break listening to the Paul Finebaum show podcast back continuing on a very interesting Friday afternoon. Let's go to Wendy in Ohio. Wendy I Paul. I think I know why they canceled big ten media days. Maybe 'cause where they have it at you know if they have seventeen on one day you know players certain come and oh they were never going to have a normal media days and most people thought it would be virtual but the fact. They canceled it. Altogether it's really interesting. I thought maybe where they had or the capacity or whatever. 'cause like Ohio. You know there's ten you know ten or whatever you know like full Memorial Day now. People that the comfort Where people have weddings or receptions if they can do it if it's three hundred people and you're six feet apart. You know the went. Wendy I I I let me explain again. I mean media days this year. We're not going to be normal. They were all going to be a completely different situation. But some of it has to do with uncertainty. You don't media days Nova season. You walked into a lot of questions so you have to be certain of the season starting. I think most people are pretty confident right now but it's still very interesting decision. We'll try to some. We'll try to get some clarification later. Rick is up next to Henrik Ricky. Either skip is up next. Hey skip we're doing great. Thank you when you first time. Caller five listen. Thank you very only be Since you there was any more information on the Bobby cremins book I have not heard Explain to me again what you know about that. I vaguely remember. We had a conversation about this but I don't remember the details on. This is the second time I've called just wanting information on it. Well yeah listen. I'm a big fan coach criminal. The only thing I I just don't know about the book and if somebody would contact me I certainly will. Thanks for the call. Appreciate it. Lynn Anderson South Carolina Helen. Hey thank you for taking my call in for hanging with us You it I two things real quick first of all I appreciate military. My Dad was a lifer in the air force. My late husband was one hundred percent disabled veterans. Let's take this opportunity to remind people that yeah. The service person serves but the family serves also. I think that's important by the way that I don't know if I've ever heard it said better that that is a that is such a poignant comment thank you guys thank you so. I got like I think. Okay I'm I'm a sports so Hollick in enforced remission Thank God nice course. Had some live events is all I can say I'm confused about this voluntary thing with the SEC. Is that the SPOL- voluntarily go back each athlete decides whether they're going back it seems like it's a very inequitable playing field Alabama. The yeah hold on the. Acc is not only The SEC the has done the same thing others will follow. It is called voluntary because it's The NC restricts directed workouts this time of the year. Even though I don't know why they don't wipe it out. Considering there wasn't a spring but anyway ultimately every player can choose not to go and talk to campus. He but the odds of that happening lunar pretty slim peer pressure. Of course. Yeah. It's like it's like when somebody asks you to do a voluntary anything you see a lot. You see around the country right now. Then you see Executives coaches all kinds of people taking voluntary pay cuts. Have you seen those? Yes Yeah A. I'll be careful how I say this but nobody forces anyone to do anything but when you when you work for an organization or you play on a football team or you're in the military or anything else you normally go with the flow. Yeah and and and I appreciate it. I'm ready again. Just it bothers me that you put athletes and their families in that but but let me let me say this to you in spoken to countless head coaches and I can't quote how many athletic directors and every one of them to a person. I can no longer say to a man because he. Sec now has a female athletic director advance in that one. No we'll have to. We'll have to. We'll have to be careful how we gender is but my point being. They strongly believe that the athletes are better under their watch even though it's loose than they are at home. And here's why if you have a football player in Anderson South Carolina just for the sake of argument. And he's trying to. I think the gyms are open now in South Carolina. If I read correctly yeah okay. So let's say let's say your son just for the sake of argument is Playing College. Football and South Carolina Clemson. He's got to go find some place to work out and I mean most I mean just like you I mean there may be some people have their own gyms. But I don't I you do so you you go find one and when you go find one. You don't really know what's going on there. I mean they say they're going to keep it clean but the there's a much higher probability that the University of South Carolina or Clemson University Gym Weight Room is going to be Kept a lot better than your normal neighborhood gym. I'll leave it at that valid point valid point. Yeah thank you I mean I again. I'm ready. I'm very ready But I'm also concerned I understand. Thank you for your. I WANNA equitable plainfield. If possible. It will to great point and thank you for what you said about. service As as we approach Memorial Day weekend we're heading to a break back with much much more. You're listening to the Paul Finebaum show podcast. Be Back again. The big story of the latter part of the day concerns the big ten. They have announced their media. But I'M GONNA have to ask the commissioner because it's a week later than everyone predicting yeah and farther down in the article and I won't keep you long but you'll hus- state Athletic Director Gene Smith. He did say they're gonNA start June eight so it is kind of conflicting. I don't understand the very top of the headline says football basketball. Ncw AA division. One voted going back June. That was a if I could. I think that was a recommendation. I'm just getting I'm just the the nobody has put that out. In fact I think as we're talking they They they just announced that they voted on it. Yeah Yeah I'm not really sure Basically what? They're basically letting their winning all Sports Kat. It says youth sports and practices can resume in high school. Sports will restart June one. Okay you down in Alabama. So I don't I don't think it's panic. Confusing conflicting You have you have stumped the band here. I have no earthly idea. I'm just going to be as transparent. Why why that is a rick great to have you on thank you? David is in Kentucky. You're on the air. You Know Paul. I've got a quick I. You know I love sports and I Love College Sports Football Basketball. You name it and pro but the thing that that this just the point to get me. They're complaining about going back. You know going back water about the and they get paid the pro for getting paid millions and millions of dollars. I mean crazy money. One about this Memorial Day. What about the troops has gotta go back? They don't have a choice and their close proximity holding what about Your awful works at a stave mill. You know he don't have no choice but to go back so you know. I understand you know sure I don't want to happen to. They're no different anybody else. If you got a job you gotta go back when I tell you go back now. You're I talked to a business owner the other day. I won't say where and how are you. How are you dealing with this? He said we're working. I got a business operate. We're essential in. I'm not trying to to moralize on anyone. I don't I mean everyone's different I'm the I like you off the. Espn you have a job if they tell you Paul. I'm sorry you're GONNA have to come back or you've got a choice. Paul either comes back Paul or another job. Yeah and I think you know what the answer I I would be back. Takes me fifteen seventeen minutes to get to work? I'll be there. I'll be there in seventeen minutes and I'm sure I'm sure pro athlete. Even a college actually look to look out for a lot more than than You're playing managers. GonNa look for you and most plant now your David and one other thing on that subject when you when you look at. What's going on around the country with the tragic the tragic unemployment? It's not going to be hard to replace anyone. Oh no there's GonNa be no labor labor shortage if the whole thing is just like. It's become the thing that we're just. I think we've become spoiled entitled generation. Everybody owes US something and we don't want to give anything in return.

"While Mama's Apprai- rob would be some Eugene by Merle Haggard and I you know there's a number of these songs Mama tried is another one. That sort of definitive was a special favored of my mother. She would always lecture me. You know what listen to this boy and how Mama tried and she never never shame me by going to prison like that. What what is I mean? Merle haggard as we know now did spend some time in jail he. He didn't turn twenty one and he did turn twenty one in prison but he wasn't doing life without parole. He did get paroled and he got out but he was actually in San Quentin and saw johnny cash. Tell us about about about haggard and prison and his relationship with that. Why was there a slow to publicize that? Yeah there's a lot to unpack there I'm going to. I'm going to push back in one part of your initial premise. In that while on the one hand it's definitely true that haggard is identified with present songs and particularly with him back home and Mama tried right. That's some of the greatest records but he actually didn't record very many prison songs. You'd see I When I was doing the book I saw that in over three hundred sides he cut while he was at Capitol records which is basically like nineteen sixty five to nineteen seventy seven thirteen. Most of those were early and and they're interesting and that they tend not to they. Don't tell us very much about like what life in prison is like that. They tend to be more existential songs. about how it feels maybe to be trapped but not not actually about day to day life in in in prison fugitive is interesting so because it certainly begins to help establish his identity as a kind of outlaw. Some hello right in the sixties But it also reminds us that while haggard is a great songwriter. He recorded tons and tons of songs that probably a lot of people assume he wrote but he didn't. That's all. It was written by Lynn Anderson and her husband I think then Anderson and mature forget Which they wrote partly inspired by the fugitive television series. I'd also point out that it also pointed out that The fugitive I would say that's technically not a prison. Saw back on the run criminal on the run I was trying to get two categories in at once. You know if he's trying to. He's he's on the run again. He's running kind again. Just recently occurred to me but senior back home. One of the greatest prison song is also a running. It's another other running song it's about how can I get out of this prison even if it is just with my imagination. Where where the songs the discreet singers can take me. Yeah it's it's it's fascinating and I didn't realize that until I read your book that that he despite the big presence of the prison songs in his legend and outlaw songs like you say it's a pretty small chunk of it but there's another two categories that want to cover together that are pretty big chunks of his of and that's and that's working man songs and drinking songs. The drinking songs were kind of where he came in. I I you know hit. His first. Big Hit was strangers. All my friends are GONNA be strangers. Which by the way is another one? Anderson saw But then he had swinging doors and the bottle me down drinking songs kind of where he came in his first. Big Hit for national top. Ten hit was All my friends are GONNA be strangers. Which coincidentally was actually another was Anderson Written Song But when he when his first big hits that he wrote himself were swinging doors and the bottle. Let me down those a lot drinking songs of sort of fallen out of favor and country music or at least I should say this particular kind of drinking song where you're drinking to drown your troubles like It's it was he he was. He became quickly expert at it. One of the things that he talks about a lot in both of his autobiographies is how before he'd had any hits he and his His manager Fuzzy Owen. Would you know sit down and go through the billboard country charts so by Song it's supposedly would sort of like just say okay? Here's why this is hit. And he would burn down here about. Here's what strong about it. Here's what it does and I kind of feel like. That's what haggard is green on those early country songs country drinking songs that he has his whatever. He's like trying to figure out the form. How do I have yet? He's a good study. It's when he gets to the fugitive and then the follow up song branded man That he begins to sort of distinguish himself those early drinking songs classic and Great. But they're also sort of There's a lot of other artists around like that. Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah exactly And he actually you know you pretty quickly leaves them behind his single stop being that and he turns to what you talk about The working man songs. The most famous of those of course is working man blues Which I probably might say after hungry is would probably be my favorite. It's such a great record right. It's got that like you mentioned earlier. That James Burton was a key part of Haggard Studio Ensemble. The lick that That Burton is playing on that record and the groove that he and the rest of the band Get going is almost immediately transferred always Presley in Las Vegas when he was making those comeback shows in nineteen literally the same band. It's the same band and it's the same groove that thing that always I think people sort of Don't you know here as well today. They might have in that moment And it's just one more way. That haggard was sort of like you know playing around with top potential In that in that moment like Bucko and the Bakersfield sound and you and you go into some of the reasons this isn't entirely or it's kind of an oversimplification but the basic stereotype is that the Bakersfield country sound in the sixties was wilder and closer to rock Richard Drums. A lots of electric guitars and steel guitars less fiddles whereas Nashville was gone country politics with strings etc etc. Like you said that's a little bit overstated. But I think it's generally true and grown up here Merle haggard and I would hear him on the radio and I had a couple of greatest hits albums but Intel. The you know. The day of the celestial jukebox dawned on us and could acquire his whole out in our at least listen through his whole album collection. I never went back and you know through all the first fifteen albums or you know the things. I did preparing for this interview. And so it's it's really fascinating. I definitely never knew that James Burton and the the taking care of business band was backing up. Merle haggard and the next sort of theme or wanted to talk to was his tribute songs that he did a whole album of Jimmy Rodgers songs. He continually covered lefty frizzell and was very clearly an acolyte of great lefty prevail. He did a whole album to Bob Wells but the one that he really kind of fell flat on her. The most disappointed those four is his elvis tribute and real you know reading and realizing. Oh my God. He had played with these guys for years. They played for three years. Why on Earth do it upright on that Elvis? Yeah it's it's it is an odd odd thing it's It's a it's a testament to what a big Presley Fan Haggard was was that he was already working on those presley tribute album before Elvis died And but you're but you're right. I think that that's a pretty doug album wanted. The I'd put it definitely the probably the bottom third of haggard entire career and it doesn't make sense is a huge haggard fan. You came up in Bakersfield scene. Where all those bakersfield bar bands new their Elvis Presley cold could play it hot and you listen to that record and you think my God this is just a dreary sort of going through the motions thing. Why didn't he tap James Burton? Who had been as bandleader in the studio when all those records He didn't actually have the T. Cd Band Backing him in the studio ex- except on Surprisingly enough okay from skokie on brushes and Glenn Harden is playing the piano in the studio version And hardened played onto the tracks but it's just burden but why did he get One of the reasons I'm guessing is that you know. He grew up as an elvis fan in the moment right. He was where he goes to prison. He's it's in nineteen fifty seven and so Personalities already a superstar at that moment right and that's kind of the the direction higher tax on that record as he tries to not do contemporary elvis seventies late sixties Elvis. He's trying to sort of do a fifties all this thing that Fo- fifties does it. Work does get the Jordan airs Like those fifties with Elvis but I would have preferred that. He tried to get like Jd. Sumner and the stamps or you know the backing vocals in the later years. Yeah I sir and and you've got slow go I do before we leave this idea of tribute records so yeah. That is such a key to the haggard aesthetic and two. I think how country music works country. Tradition works as if you if people want to sort of you know have a model for how to ensure that the country tradition continues as we go forward. The trick is always not to make new records that sound like old records. It's to make new records that same sound brand new but that also managed to sound like or connect to the old records right. So that's what his Jimmy Rogers tribute album does. It does not sound like Jimmie rodgers singing in nineteen thirty. It sounds like the album road. Haggar put out right before that pride and what I am. He updated that old. Sound you Jimmy Rogers. As at the at the best of the class because he uses his state of the art sound.

Lee Jones is like always picks I great musicians all these guys play with rich and Joni Mitchell as well David Sanborn Tom. Scott As well as he played on kiss albums he's on music from the elder and creatures of the night he's also he was both Larry. Gary and Robyn were ghost Musilu. We should talk about this real quick Actual ghost artist. Ghost musicians. Are Guys that play but you. You think they don't tell you that those the is there une credited so you think it's the band that's playing Gene Simmons out talks about this extensively extensively in kissing makeup about how Peter Chris and as freely were so messed up on drugs that and they would bring ghost players in and I believe that Robben Ford is probably on Robben Ford Lyric. Carlton are probably on more Carr's albums than anyone really knows. And there's a lot of other famous musicians that played on on a lot of those records but this was a very common thing to do because the label didn't want and they wanted to give the illusion that the band that you were on the cover as the band played the played songs. And we're gonNA talk about the wrecking crew. A little bit later added Iran and that was an example of those guys are on a lot of sessions where nobody knew that they were on. They got paid but nobody knew that they didn't get the crap and speaking of ghosting. I want to mention one other thing in terms of ghosting and this guy is famous. But you don't know on a lot records that he's on. And that is Duane gene. allman Duane allman was so in love with playing music. It was just so passionate about it. The winning the whenever the allman brothers had like a break. They have the day off or something like that. He would go to the closest recording studio and say I I WANNA play. Just let me play. And he got paid cash on a lot of stuff and was happy and never said anything and he's on tons and tons of record. How but the one? That's it's the most famous that came out because it came out in the documentary about the allman brothers is the him working with Wilson. Pickett on Wilson Pickett's version of. Usually I'm pretty good at the TV stuff this show now five episodes would get his so far some stuff for just shoot him in the head tied him up up in two minutes left in Montgomery Rapper and Peroxide Kosovo two or three car with a match got a car would imagine gentlemen yes US Thursday versus. I got the rams and we got the joker. The joker opens nationally on Thursday initially. I wasn't wasn't interested in seeing the film because I thought Heath Ledger dropped the Mike. Why pick it back up but I gotTa tell you these. Little commercials makes it looks pretty good. It's pretty good. It's one of the reasons why we like. The joker so much isn't because of him trying to kill people because what he says he's trying to kill people. He was a woke Dylan. So I put together my favorite top ten pop culture moments of woke villainous all right that means. They said something that is actually spot on listen. You come in at number ten from reservoir. Dogs reservoir dogs couldn't Tarantino. I couldn't get into it though it wasn't tried. I'll probably try to watch bungee. Are you gonna you. Are you GONNA burn all day little Doggie or are you going to bite. I love that line because how many people in our lives all they do is complain Complain Complain Complain and never do a damn thing raw number nine from one of my all time favorite movies yours to travel but never wears product. Yes the scene in which the protagonist is sort of laughing at the notion that you know they're trying to figure out this blue that blue and miranda the priestly yes the tagging. It says oh I see you. You think this has nothing to do with you and she begins to shred her because seeping because she somehow doesn't think anything that's happening. Room is important that as a detached from her and there's so many things in our lives that we think as happening that you know we have anything to do with actually the people who are deciding that aren't fluency every single moment of your life is one of the most fantastic monologues to me in cinematic history in hathaway number number eight introduced little anarchy from the dark night. I love this moment fight club because we said he was like I never thought of that. Consider the possibility. Thank God does not like you never wanted you in all probability eighteen. That's very mean. It's also very woke. It's like we all believe just because you know you ask for prayer that he's GonNa Answer. Everybody's prayers you have to consider the possibility he's like knows on the other side consider that often number six. There's no nobility in poverty. I love love this line because there's so so true we have this idea. You know mostly because there's this fractured his way politically deep that if you're rich then somehow you're bad or you even if you pour somehow. That's better your real Americans. I love that moment and Wall Street with Wall Street. You know in poverty. I've been a rich man and I have been a poor man rich time now. I I mean come on. I know which door was really day. Which one you like better every well you know my saying is. I like lobster statement. I boxed macaroni tastes like don't like you. We did number five was his madness is like gravity. Sometimes you need a little push. AB number four from the usual suspects ooh yeah yeah and this line here this line. Here's pretty spot on the greatest trick. Nick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world. He didn't exist one story. The guys told me that to me is is killing two good way because obviously it's a metaphor for larger things in life all the conspiracy theories that are out there and it's like the greatest trait that anyone can ever pull oh and saying no we will never do that and once they start believing you would never do that. That's when that just happens. Free flowing uninterrupted. Oh yes no next number three comes from superhero movies but it's not from a superhero of course from the greatest villain and M. see you. That's marvel cinematic. Universe famous be fulfilled whose future well done suspected. Nothing arrogant never do they suspected nothing. Nothing the arrogant never do when I heard that line item mealy started thinking about just all the things that powerful men do that. It gets them in trouble and the biggest thing is when they don't bother covering their tracks when they're doing something wrong and why don't they cover the transplant the wrong because they're arrogant won't get caught heart. I've been guilty. the arrogant never do shouldn't deleted that tex there you go number. Two GOTTA have a game of thrones and you gotTa have have mercy and Sursee when she looked at Ned stark and this when you knew that this series was real she looked at ned stark and says when when you play the game of thrones you win or you die. The TV show has done so well how you thought you were rooting for the guy even as it became clear that Walter White wasn't a good guy ewing your head trying to figure out a way to still keep them in in that way because he started off as a good guy and so innocent in that moment it became clear to his wife his TV care to wife and the audience and most important himself. He's not good guy knows. This is when physically appearance wise he was bought and had the goatee right assets. We're GONNA Little Tokyo started changed teacher haircut was gone he almost looked like a bag and you had to decide as a TV audience whether or not you're going to keep lying there. Have that stupid cut of radios that yeah, that's that's the thing. Parents housewives. Oh, I'm going to tune into the whatever show. They're talking about relationships that we don't get that stuff. Here. We do the real thing for you. This is a big thing to know. Normally we start with headlines, but, you know, these, these lists are just too good to miss here. The first one is from sort of segue that went over my head. This is. Charity Alamo just throws. In words, for no, good reason. Do you have extra words, do you get deposits on words that I worked out by Konami? I'd like to identify hear more when I was when I was younger research in New York state where they put the nickel on deposit on every canned good or bottle sodas. Right. And then when you were done you'd have you'd have a stack of cans, and every once in a while you take them down to the store, and you get the money back. I feel like words that with Jared Yamamoto sometimes you just has to get rid of some and get his deposit back. I don't really mean anything he just kind of tosses him out there. All right. Go ahead. This first list is from bustle, and it's no no BuzzFeed, or bustle. Yes. In this first one believe bustle is still in business again. It's another. Do they get the same people who listened to the fake radio with the relationships women? No, they get worse. People bustles women, though. Selenium millennial women. Who are interested in social Justice kinda, but then they also have makeup tips. Oh well, I guess you wanna look good behind a Bullhorn Bullhorn. They say that men are misogynist, but no one's meaner to women than other women. That's true unless it's the editor of bustle. Yeah, they do nothing. But pander I think maybe a horrible website. We'll maybe we could find something that we agree with this, I listed from bustle, more words that he just got deposit for. They. This is eleven healthy morning habits that may not be as good as you thought. All right. So please don't. Tell me relieving myself and I, I wake up is a good for me because if it isn't good for me, and I have no shot of being healthy. Well, let's start with the first one here, jumping right out of bed, stop, right there again. I want to say more words, let's start with the first one here. He's a present. Okay. We'll just hit it. I know I'm being pick a union. Yeah. So I mean, I don't know what that means. But I assume picking on me, sort of okay? So the first one is jumping newspaper in Louisiana. Jumping right out of bed is not good for you. If you bet who leaps out of I do I get right up? I do. I do not. Oh, yeah, I leave out of bed I wake up. I'm up. Oh I do too. I do. I get up. I have I have my phone plugged in, and it set for four thirty four forty five and five. It's never gotten the four by four thirty get up turn because the only once you have your feet on the ground, and you're standing up, and you're walking toward the bathroom as I just indicated the first place to go once you're walking you're, you're halfway home. It's when you continue to lay in bed, and also in the morning my routine. Is. So it's just it's the word routine. Absolutely. I do the same thing every morning. And I know in my head if I just get five minutes behind I'm gonna be five minutes behind until I walk out the door. So am I wrong or I'm right? So the rings at four thirty I roll over, I turn it off. I get up immediately. Yes, you're doing well not leaping out of bed. But what leaps out of bed? Well, I think that's what I mean. It's the turn of phrase to leap out of bed jumping. They're just getting out of bed. Quotas. According out of bed. In the in that Christmas song. Eleven lords aletha. Yeah. Lord either leaping that they mean is right. They want you to like to sit up and put your legs over the side and sit there for a minute, and then get out of a hot air balloon out of the bed that's exactly what I do of cocaine if I do that on the floor. So I gotta get up and go here with Dr Karen Katherine Jackson has to say about it. She she knows about waking up in the morning. Jackson when it comes to your here is right now Cesar waking up in the morning expert. Yes. Nobody does an extensive research on care on Catholic Jacqueline awakening events that happened typically after long dormant period. Yes, so you're, you're log your Longley doormat and then you have an awakening event. Yes, that's correct. Expert. It is not advised to quote leap out of bed. But to instead gradually depict yourself. Through the phases of awakening action. Hold on. I know you have a question, but I always hear about, like, maybe it's good to visualize yourself. I then ease yourself into easing out of bed, I have a question here from the audience. Yes. Thank God, couldn't he said, you're and then. I'll go back sleep hit snooze Cup time now it does depend on your mental state of mind. And typically the path of the journey that you are on, on a path of my wife left me. And I'm looking for a roommate. Yes. What do you say to that? Kathleen. What I would accident Kathleen Kelly Jackson. Yes. Katherine Kelly burning. Yes. What I do recommend do nights, forcefully eject yourself from your sleeping apparatus, but instead of name Abed hanging. Yes, I guess some do call it a bed. You gotta kinda talk down. They're not sleeping. I'm happy drank all night. And you got two hours sleep. You gotta go to work at the grocery store and alarm goes off. You get up right away, now I would call and make them. Employer. Your boss to possibly give you a me day. Whoa, whoa. Whoa. What about what about what about a Java p but about by the bed? Yeah. He is that some sort of Campbell CIA that I'm not familiar with. So you don't have to keep walking. If you leave it, there, long and hope it turns into Pam Bujan. Well, then I would recommend drinking that deal. Our expert. I'll have to look. Well, you know, we live different lives cultural definitely do we're not. We're not sleeping. Jackson's quite quiet. Resume, she's a license, I collagen a board certified at one of the original Charlie's angels. Well, that was my life, I would say before I what the kids might say bimbos, got braids. Whoa, I'm sorry, ma'am, you for her as a Bimbo, I would never say on millennial all my goodness gracious. This chair, Joe motive, we gotta get rid of them. Okay. Keep on going with the listings now she Kathleen Kelly, ATI Jackson bunny. Yes. I want to apologize for that statement from Jared Yamamoto. Yes, what he said, was indeed troubling. You know what I think he's sleepwalking because he doesn't he doesn't get out of bed, the right way. The second thing this is what I do everyday hitting snooze seventeen times. Don't hit snooze. We just talked about this is not good for you. I don't care if it's good for you. It's not good for. You get up set it damn alarm when you wanna get up and get your ass up. Look, if you can't start your day properly, nothing. Good is going to happen, if you're going to lay around and be coaxed out of bed, if the last minute every morning what the hell do you think you're going to get done? And I don't know what they have to say. Oh, that stupid, bustle of psychotherapist Lynn Anderson, and she's right here. Mainland. Erin stern say. Thoroughly? Lovers or you just working on now. We're just were partners. Okay. They both tell bustle quota in a given night in average individual, we'll go through three to five sleep cycles. If you hit the snooze button. You're breaking goes into a into another sleeps like she promised me, a rose garden and never delivered. You see promises us all of that, and it never never promised he wrote guard. We got it wrong. So if you if you hit snooze button for seven minutes, what's going to happen is you can go back into a Rhames cycle. And then you're gonna wake yourself up in the middle of it, and you'll, you'll be more exhausted. That's worse for you. Listen, get up if you don't want to, but life is full of things. You have to do that. You don't want to the best thing you can do is face the day, what you're going to slink into the day, and then expecting something good to come from it, get up. Get up go out there. I used to say to my kids, but when I was leaving. And they're getting ready for school back in the back in the day. It's like just get out there and beat the hell out of this day. It's your day go. They'll get it day. Go get it now the third thing on here is checking your tour. No, that's wrong. Now, the third one is checking your phone because what bustle says while it's good to stay informed to catch up with friends consider, how scrolling through your phone first thing in the morning. Truly makes you feel oftentimes those notifications. Your stress. Bob, blah, blah, blah, blah. No. Get up and go. It's the new day. What you don't want to do is you don't want to be looking at the phone as you're going to sleep number one. It was kind of blue light is that kind of makes you awake shouldn't watch TV. Is your phone save? I found this out for years. I watch TV and now I don't I just lay down in bed, I turn off the light. I get caught up in some memory from a long time ago. And I just kind of slowly, go to sleep. But if you're if you're checking your emails for you go to sleep. You'll be yeah. That will excite you to the point that you can't follow it causes anxiety. Once you wake up, get up, go get up go. Get that first Cup of coffee and meet the day. If you if you expect anything out of the day, that's going to be asking now on a Saturday. Yeah. Just lay there and, you know, fart on the mattress for a couple hours on a on a work day on a work day. What excuse me? So I said on sorry pumped. I meant to say pet scan now the four family show, the fourth item on the list is a little surprising having a glass of juice in the morning. It's not that good for you know it's terrible for sugar. That's, that's why I'm a real man. I drink black coffee. I don't have any meal, let me sugar and nothing certified health coach Marissa's motels by have her here. Here. She coach. Get on out there. See a life coach coaches she she, she say hell certified health health, go, not only a health coach but certified lazy. Book board-certified us, right? That's right. The seven to nine hours of sleep, you should be fine. But most people don't do that. I do want to take up for like the new moms with babies. That's a whole different university. Arose. "We had some rain and we have Rose's. How do we put the two together? Mr harper. You know, who this is singing this give me a second. Linda. Clorox? No, that's not my girlfriend hang on. It's not Linda, it's Lynn Lynn Jackson has a rose named after this lady. All right for the sake of the listening. You'll you'll never Anderson. Yes, man, listen to country music. It's an oldie too. You can tell I'm a little off, you know, with kids that kind of changes. I never listen to anything that was newer than George strait's first album and this'll be older than that. Oh, yeah. I mean, I mean back to I mean that was this new as I would go. Gotcha. Gotcha. Yeah. Oh Conway Twitty old old Waylon Jennings. Back from the fifties, Lynn Anderson, Tammy Wynette. Yep. Yeah. Rose gardens. But it's more like Dirks Bentley. Now, the kids, and I don't even Pratt. John pratt. Jove? I don't even know. I know Brad. Sanderson hit record anyway, John now, you're going back to the own. That's an oldie. So he was just here. Not too long ago. There's there's some new John guy out of California that they all likes anyway. You got me on that one rose garden some handsome do that needs to shame right. Yeah. So coming up. I mean, this is the time to be planting roses in your garden, trimming roses, pruning roses, planting roses, taking care of roses and the Mesa east valley road society has a arose auction is fund raiser for their club every year. This year. It's the second of February. So in a couple of weeks on Saturday at Mesa community college. So they have all those roses in the rose garden out there, and they have their auction their it's at the the student center, if you if you pull into Mesa community college off of southern and you kind of the first thing he sees the big clock tower. That's that's where the room is just looked for that clock tower. Doors open at noon, the auction starts at one pm. They have over one hundred roses, and I know Tyler Francis. From Francis roses, which is right out here in the west valley. They grow a ton of roses for the market. They've donated a bunch of roses a bunch of new ones, and they've got some goodies. All these talk about old music. They got some oldies, but goodies like double delight and some different varieties that are just tried and true there. It's a fun thing to do. There's lots of there'll be lots of experts. They're what we call consulting rose areas. People there have in a nutshell been doing this a long time. If you've got questions about roses. You can get those answered I'm going to be there for from maybe eleven to one or two with some of our Hickman's farms choice fertilizer products. If you've got any questions about those want to get a sample of some of those come by and anybody that comes to the auction and mentions Rosie on the house. We'll get ten dollars off their purchase at checkout. Very nice. So they've offered that as an incentive to come on out Mesa community college. Couple of weeks February second. Doors open at noon auctions at one I guess it goes till they're done tiller and. If you have existing roses. Now's a critical time for pruning. I believe next two or three weeks. But by the middle of February, you probably want to be completed, but you gotta you gotta prune roses back. They bloom on new growth. So we want to get rid of old stuff. We want to get rid of. Maybe they've gotten to choked up there too thick. They've got some old canes. We wanna keep some new canes regenerating. So if you're not sure how to do that a lot of our local nurseries have rose pruning clinics. They'll have these consulting areas from the various rose organizations come out and conduct a clinic. You could also take a picture now with modern technology. Take your iphone take a picture of your roses. Take him to this event. Go find one of these consulting areas, and they could very easily point out Yod take that Cain out that came out on leave that one cut it back this far. And there's nothing short of just really diving in and doing it to kind of help you with. But people get a little. The Gila frayed to start pruning, and you really aren't going to screw them up. If you if you prune them pretty hard, but. My grandmother baby has kept roses for years on the north side of their house. When you say, you can't screw up. Chop off to the ground summertime. Come back. We get together for the fourth of July have this beautiful huge Trump. Yeah. Yeah. People will gasp, sometimes when I tell you gotta keep up gone up more more more. Yeah. So, yup. They grow fast, and you get all that new growth, which means you get all these new terminal buds and ends and flowers and controls the size because if you don't do it. You're gonna end up this ten foot monster full of thorns not going to be a lot of fun to prune next year. So. I'm sure they'll have all kinds of goodies there besides roses. They usually have fertilizers and gloves and prunes and in all kinds of cool stuff. So and we've posted that I've Rosie on the house dot com in our vents. It took me a second to find it because you've got to read the whole thing. Just look for rose auction. I should put the abbreviation, right? The Mesa east valley road society at the end. So you see rose auction. I, but we've got all the details there along with the website location. That's February second that's a Saturday. Our broadcast is over eleven the starts in may have to go grab. It'd be it there. You can get there at roses to our landscape. Let's go to the phones. Now, we've got a few callers that are in line to talk to Jay one trip late seven six seven four three four eight. That's one triple-8 rosy for you and Georgia. You were actually a called. You must've been you stealing my mind. I was going to go right to citrus next. And you're you beat me to it. Well, good morning. How you guys doing today? Fantastic. I want to say, God bless our buddy rose day, and he continued to heal properly. But I wanted to ask you a question. I'm thinking about planning a naval orange tree. And I've seen one advertised, and it was the Washington. Naval orange tree. And my question is do Washington. Naval trees, grow in Arizona. Washington. Naval is the old original naval variety. That was planted in California. The. Nineteen forties thirties. Forties and continues to be planted. It's it's the commercial naval orange. It's a it's a very fine. Naval the only issue we have with navels here in general is if you only have one citrus tree in your yard. And you have gravel desert type landscaping. They are they prefer, California weather. They prefer cooler summers. Little more humidity. They sometimes we'll have an issue setting fruit. And the fruit stain on when we get those really hot, drying winds and may. Which can knock a lot of fruits. So they they have been cutting notorious notoriously inconsistent or. Light producers or sometimes the fruit doesn't have as much. Moisture content. However, if you've got multiple citrus trees, and you can kind of Nestle it in the middle of the row or maybe in on the side yard where it's a little gets a little more protected from hot dry late spring early summer wins. They do very well here. People with flood irrigation with grass yards those types of situations. You're going to be fine. I just caution people if you if you got room for one citrus tree, I don't think a Washington. Naval would be my choice. We appreciate the question, Georgia and the call. Good luck. With those citrus. I. He can't go wrong with any type of warm. So no, not really. And there's another one if you want something very similar, but it's very reliable. It does have a few seeds in. It doesn't quite peel as easy as enabled. But electro Vitas very well. Good quality fruit. Good, heavy producer nice size fruit. But not really trying to talk him out of planning a Washington naval. But just make sure it's maybe situated right location. Let's go to Doug wants to talk about his mulberry tree. Oh, I gotta do that. Come on. Dr welcome to the program. Hey, how you doing very good? Thank you. I have a simple question. I have an ancient mulberry tree. And I noticed that I had some whoring critters that were making the tree bleed last year. I I would the chemicals in try to kill them. But I noticed last week. That the bark starting to peel off and one side, and I've got about four foot long swatch embark missing. Okay. And I don't know if that tree is on its last leg. Visit. The thing has got to be thirty years old. Well, typically, what's happened with Mulberries over the years is people over prune them. Expose the the trunks of the major limbs to too much sun we get sunburn, and then we get borers. And then we get city canker or other infections that take place under that loosening or peeling off bark and just kind of spirals into this. Decline and death. So if you've gotten ahead of it, and you just got one spot number one. I would be very careful as to how much are pruned them. All berry. Number two. I'd get some of the go natural the natural color tree paint in. I'd get that peeled off spot, and maybe even the whole trunk up to the first main branches painted. So that you don't get any more sunburn as far as the boring insects. If they're in the main trunk of the tree about the only thing you can do would be to try and treat them chemically. Keep the tree wealth fertilized regularly fertilized and watered and hopefully it will it will go good longtime yet. But over pruning, people just they just pull our does Treasa cut him way back for some reason in the sixties and seventies. That was the accepted way to do it. It's probably shorten the life of most Mulberries. And of course, you can't plant a male ball berry in miracle county anymore anyway, so you don't see very many of them around. And that's not the only county with restrictions on Huma county was actually the first to do that. And this we're going way back, but I don't think there's any cities left and miracle pa- county. It's not a county thing. It's actually was a city thing. But. You gotta go outside. Outside the county to find one if you I'm just saying there are places that still sell them, and they are hardy trees, you'd mentioned that cutting style. I'd I'd never liked that. Anyway, why would you I think people did it to control the size of the trees, you mentioned they grow fast, and they get big. So they just you know, in the wintertime when they started losing their laser sometimes even before, unfortunately, people just come back to the main scaffold limbs lopped him off. And he used ended up with this really pretty round headed kind of a tree. But what happened is we we exposed so much of the trunk so early in the season that they they still then they sunburned badly. And once that once you start losing that protective tissue off of those trays a lot about things happen, and then secondary in for the city canker gets in there, and you got all kinds of issues. Whether you're looking at some old.

"What is your your understanding of civility in the workplace? How do you think about it? The interesting thing is that in very recent history. We didn't even really think we had to put those two words together in a sentence. Civility and the workplace somehow in the in the late twentieth century, we lived with a different kind of structure and role expectation in every aspect of our lives. Right. Even in the family people played roles in inhabited them and compartmentalize their lives, including their live, you know, distinguishing between their lives at work and their lives at home. And somehow that that worked and it doesn't work anymore. And I think new generations in particular are just not willing to divide themselves up in that way in terms of the civility piece. I mean, this is also one manifestation of the fact that the human drama has entered public life and political life in a way that it wasn't out on the surface before and it, and it has entered all of the aspects of our life together. And life at work is one of those. Somehow we used to be able to pretend that we could separate these fears out, but I think any leader of an organization now in on. I am one. Has to take in and acknowledged that people are coming to work feeling all the feelings. Having all the reactions around the things that are happening in public life. Now. Do you have a good memory from your own career? How you thought about the workplace? Yeah. Earlier on and how that's changed for you. Well, yes, I mean, I was very ambitious in my twenties. I was in Europe. I was into vita Berlin. I worked as a journalist. And then I worked we didn't have an embassy in Berlin. We the we had the US mission to Berlin. But that was a hierarchical workplace. You know, the the the diplomatic hierarchy I've reflected on this lot as an organizational leader because you know. I have said to I don't say this any more, but a few years ago, I would say to young employees. You know, do you know how I knew I was doing good job. When I was your age. I can't believe I said this. But I would you know, I think it I knew I was doing good job when they asked me to do something even harder next. Right. I had no expectation that would be complimented. Or really nurtured? And and then there were all kinds of other ways that manifest like, you just, you know, there was such a strict boundary and so much more expansive essense for what counted as personal life and private that you would not let intrude on the workplace, you know, even being sick, right? I didn't have any expectation that the fullness of my identity and. My personal values would necessarily find reflection in my job. And that is a new kind of expectation now to me that's about the fact that in the twenty first century, we are developing an expanded sensibility of what it means to be a whole human being. And I mean, we're literally getting new information from science about our brains in our bodies, and how something like trauma is actually something that we carry around and that it transmits in our social spaces, including a workplace, we know things about human wholeness that are about the hard side of being human. But also about we know that people who are who are able to feel to feel good about what they do who who who are. Well, who are healthy are also going to be you know, more productive. It's funny. I went back and looked at the academic research on workplace civility, and it really took off in nineteen ninety nine right at the turn of the century. Where interest, Lynn Anderson and Christine Pearson wrote about the spiraling affects of incivility in the workplace, and no sense than there have been so many studies that show how when people feel like their workplaces uncivil or they're treated uncivil at work there work effort goes down. Yeah. They also spent a lot of time thinking about it and ruminating about it and how much that affects their productivity and went study put a monetary cost of fourteen thousand dollars per employee. I mean, I think a lot of that stands to reason we understand now much better how especially in the knowledge economy, how satisfied employees are just more productive. But the other thing that is changing just this merging of the individual with the organization, and then that creates new prob..

"Use that opener concept to their advantage. I think it makes a lot of sense for them and you know, we'll see probably test out that Britain and some high leverage roles. So this is a guy who had a crisis of confidence of Baltimore had a lot of uncertainty for awhile between injuries and trade talks. That's a guy where you would expect him to probably thrive a little bit in this situation. Orioles also made another trade sending Manny Machado out to the dodgers again, downgraded park factor, but he fits right in from a walk standpoint, power standpoint, dodgers are in great shape once again to make nice run out there in the National League Shung Hawn. Oh, going from Toronto to Colorado a guy I wanted the Indians to be in on, but this is a great move for the Rockies and these are moves that people don't really think too much about. They're not factoring in the betting odds. But from a live betting standpoint for Colorado or from a standpoint of playing their full games, expecting them to have a bullpen advantage. This makes a lot of sense. Oh, has allowed a one ninety eight weighted on base average to righties. Were they forty five to three strikeout-to-walk ratio? I love these matchup Centric moves. I think they're really smart. The smart organizations do it. They organizations that are still lagging behind the time. Still think that relievers have to go full innings. Oh, is a great pickup for the Rockies here I think it's a very strong move at one where I think that it will have an impact on my handicapping with them with starts for John gray and Herman Marquez, and Tyler Anderson, and Kyle Freeland you'll Lynn Anderson. Some of those guys are kind of five and five and fly types of dudes, adding bullpen depth critically important, and always a great addition for the Rockies hear Diamondbacks picked up met and drifts. They needed some starting pitching depth and some bullpen. Depth injuries provides both high ground ball percentage, low walk rate. I also presume that Diamondbacks little get his numbers and said, this guy that fits in the humidor for us. So good addition there for them to add some depth. And finally the Red Sox getting eight jawohl d. They need starting pitching depth as well. Also guy you can use a multi inning reliever in the playoffs who throws upwards of one hundred contenders are making smart buys here and the trade market. While I think the teams that are making moves haven't been screwed over by any means. It looks like it's relatively reasonable market for contenders right now, you know. So we'll see if that does continue here throughout the weekend and we'll examine the next round of trades on Monday or exit velocity update time. And we'll do this real quickly here since we do it every week..
