"Pro style offense that I think it would be more advantageous for we arrive at the beginning of the system like that before he can go if he can try to get into the NFL. So I think that that would be good for him, but I like what I'm seeing. I think that they're going to do well. I'm just not one of these people is going to 9 and three. Well, I don't think you can. But I would say at least 70 5, you know, you know, 75 is pretty decent, I think, you know, I think we can do that, but other than that, I can't go no higher than that. I don't know. I mean, to me, there's a couple of opportunities and I say this. Steal a home game. You know, you got that no issue game. You got a couple other ones. And the last time they played South Carolina, I don't know. We don't fare well against them. Well, that's a strange. Yeah, I mean, that's a game like never hardly ever think about. I don't know what the backstory on that game is, but they seem like they're from they're really, I can not remember. I'm sure there's a game. Well, Ricky, great to hear from you. You take care of yourself, glide you enjoyed the baseball. That was pretty amazing. David is in Georgia. Hello, David. Hi, Paul. How are you doing, sir? Very well. Thank you. I've got a quick question for you. George is obviously going in with an on preview and quarterback. But I think the biggest question mark would have to be. And I haven't heard a lot of people talk about this, but my biggest concern about Georgia is Mike boba, being the offensive coordinator. And I'd just like to get your thoughts on that. And I'm basically based on it primarily on is his body of work. I mean, he was a Georgia for 7 seasons. He had some a couple of good years, but whenever he played, you know, talk to your event. This is offensive. Stop stone cold. He goes to Colorado state. He was a bus there. And he was just acting. He was terrible there, and then he goes, oh, we're in here with fire then. Or did this win two national championships? David, but I don't know what the answer to your question is, but I can say this. I think he's got a lot of experience, which I do like. This is not a 30 year old who has a lot of hype. He has, he knows the terrain. Now, what Mike Bobo can be accused of is making some really poor choices. He probably had to take the Colorado state job. You don't turn down a head coaching job when you're not guaranteed of getting another one. He failed. Okay. Then he goes to work for will muschamp. Somebody he knows and his friends with. He just picked the wrong time to work for will much champ. That program was burning down. And he got some of the blame, but ultimately will muschamp was responsible. And then to be the offense, I know I'm sounding like I'm a friend of Mike Bobo's. I really am not. I really don't I barely know the guy. And then he goes to work for Brian harsh and who is the offense of coordinator and was one decision by running backs away from keeping his job for quite a few years. So I don't know. I have a hard time blaming Mike Bobo for the failures of South Carolina in auburn. I do blame him for Colorado state. That was his program. Right. Now, I definitely understand where you're coming from. I mean, you know, obviously he's not a Todd Marc and then no one's going to be another one. But even monk and did monkey make the right decision to quarterback a couple of years ago? No, you're right. You're definitely right. I mean, I hope I'm wrong. I hope I'm wrong. I just don't. David, I will say this now that I've sounded like Mike Bobo's brother in law here. That is a concern because we've never seen this guy have to make a play in an SEC championship game or a game against Ohio State, where your entire season is on the line. So that's really what we don't. I mean, we've seen him make plays. And when he worked for Mark Rick, they usually went the wrong way. That's primarily what I'm saying. Mike Bobo was a great play caller against inferior competition. I mean, he could rank the yardage of, but I think it's a fair concern. I don't know that many people that are really concerned about it inside that building Kirby smart's got a high level of confidence in him. So we've now completely gutted Mike Bobo's career here and laid it all out. Let's get back to reality. Let's get a guy that always has a good take. AC. Good afternoon. Good afternoon. Good afternoon. Thank you. Thank you. Fantastic. It's still going on. I'm currently got a 6 pack under my desk. Nice. Make a tent pack, mister fine, bob. What would you go for sex, make a ten already, man? But here's the thing. What's the point of all this? Well, there are 16 ounce beers. So give me a break. Oh, sure. Enjoyed that. I don't drink, but I really don't care, but here's the thing that's refined, but what's the point of all the hate on a thin guy Mike mobile? It's like same thing every day. Mike bob. You know what? You know what Bobo's problem is? Do you know what his problem is? Please tell me. His name. Well, it doesn't matter. It sounds like Bozo. Stop criticizing someone mister fine, bob. Come on, man. What if? Let's assume he does so much better this season. I guess we'll be the next won't be the next complaint. Stop making excuses. Well, the complaint right now with George of the last two years is how come they lost one game? Well, here's the thing. They went back to back national championship. I'm on the bandwagon, so I hope they get a repeat for your burnout Nick Saban and the entire nation. AC, why would you want to do that? I mean, Sabin's the goat. I mean, you're talking disrespectfully. Of course, you are absolutely correct. He is the goat. That's embedded, mom, man. Some mail, man. What you gotta say about that homie, but you know what? I love you. I did not forget that. You know what I'm saying? Doesn't matter what Bobo does doesn't matter what Kirby smart does. All that matters is they see love. We saw mister fine bye. I was afraid that the love had passed. That spring love had gone away. I don't even know what to do. I'm at a loss here trying to let's think about this for a second.

"Know, that's interesting you mentioned that because obviously they did do a tribute at the beginning of the game where they started without an offensive lineman. They took a delay of game penalty, which actually was not reflected in the final stats as far as I have seen from the reports they handed out postgame, but outside of that, obviously they had the ceremony before the game as well. And so you didn't really get a sense honestly when you were around there that anything was wrong. And nobody really pressed him on that at any point during the postgame questioning is all about roster management and things of that nature. So you didn't really get a sense of that pressure. I know that he had to answer some questions for that in March after they had a couple of more instances I believe with speeding or things like that. So but as far as those things go that you did not really feel that in the stadium on Saturday or around campus, it was still very much a celebration in a football event. For the most part. And again, the honor that they tried to do at the beginning of the game with the late game penalty, it was a very quick thing and it quickly moved back into let's see what this quarterback competition is. Harry lyles was, of course, you hear about him all year long as he travels the country as part of the game day operation. And Harry, just from a bigger picture national championship contenders point of view, let's move Georgia off the table if possible. What else do you look forward to in terms of legitimate contenders? Well, I think obviously you've got to look at Ohio State. They've got their own quarterback question as well. And then of course, Alabama is still there for me as well. Outside of that, I still have confidence in USC, but not in a way where I would take them seriously over those first three teams I named. And then I am intrigued by Florida state and also LSU, but I also wouldn't say that I personally am as confident in those themes as it appears. I would say the general media is at large Alice use year was great, but they kind of ended slow. And I do really like Jordan Travis out there in Tallahassee. But I think I still need to see one more year out of them before I buy back into Florida space sort of being back for a lack of a better word in an overused word. Perhaps in this college football space. Harry lyles joining osan primarily the Georgia G day game. We appreciate it. Head to the break, your phone calls around the corner. "On ESPN+. You are listening to the Paul finebaum show podcast. We are back and we appreciate all of you for sticking around. We've got some really fantastic guests the rest of the way. Harry lyles joins us, you may have seen him doing the coverage on Saturday. At the G game in Athens and Harry, thanks for making time for us. Good afternoon, and give us your overall impressions on what you witnessed. Well, I will tell you that I will be shocked if anybody other than Carson Beck is the starting quarterback for Georgia week one. He definitely just showed it with his play, that's not to say that frock Vande grip was not good or gunner's thoughts and did not show promise, but I think among those three guys it was pretty clear that Carson Beck, this is his job. And Kirby, smart did not go as far as to say that necessarily. And in fact, when he was kind of asked about all three of the guys, he gave Brock a little bit more praise and talked about how some of his really good throws were dropped. Things of that nature, but when it comes to these guys, Carson Beck at the very worst is going to get the first crack at this started quarterback job come week one in my opinion. Harry, the obvious question, what separated him from the other two? He just looked more comfortable. He just looked, it was almost I can kind of compare it to some of those games where you could tell when Stefan Bennett walks into a game and he's just feeling like he's got that chip on his shoulder if he's feeling real confident and he's got something to prove. It looked a little bit like that. Now that's not to say that he's going to go out there and necessarily be in or be a Heisman contender which I mean he might end up being that who knows. But he just looked like he had a grip on the offense and what was around him in a way that the other two didn't necessarily had it. Which makes a ton of sense when you think about and considering Kirby smart mention this after the game. But he's had a ton of reps over the years and it's because of George's ability to not just have a second and third unit, but sometimes they even go and have a fourth unit. So all of their quarterbacks regardless of where they are at in the depth chart are going to get reps. And that really showed with Carson back on Saturday. Harry, when you faced a Georgia defense every day in practice, I mean, you have a lot of experience, but some have wondered, and we don't know the answer to this yet. But what's going to happen when it's live when he's up against the elite that will be necessary to beat for Georgia to three peat? Is there any way to get a read on that at this point in time? I will say that it is tough one thing Kirby smart was talking about was like, hey, we go up against the best in practice, right? Like there's not a game that's going to be on our schedule where we look at that. And it's like, oh no, this is something that we haven't faced because you're going up again against it in practice, but I think at the very least when you're going up against live talent and obviously George's part of the schedule is very light, UT Martin, both state, gets a little bit more difficult to South Carolina, but then you've also got UAB. So in terms of just seeing live game action, it's not a practice scene. You're going to have at least a cushion to see if Carson Beck really is your guy and figure that out. So even if he goes into this and starts off slow, they're going to have time to figure this thing out. And I think ultimately that's why this is going to work out for them in the end. Beyond the quarterback position, Georgia has had elite defenses now that are in record territory, not so much what you saw because I doubt you got a chance to see very much, but what did you pick up being there? You know, you hear the phrase, they look good coming off the bus often. They still look good. A bunch of size speed it's Kirby sounded like they wanted to make some improvements there. In places, but I believe they had 6 freshmen and sophomore starting last year. And I do think that it is almost a wild expectation that a team that had what 15 draft picks after the 2021 championship team reloaded. Obviously, they were not arguably the all time great defense again that they were in 2021, but they were still dominant. I think that's still sort of the expectation coming into this year. And that's honestly the benefit of that that I'm willing to give them at this point because they've shown that they are the dominant force of college football now. Harry lyles junior with us being in Athens over the weekend. Harry, you're forcing me to find the needle in the haystack here. If there's a concern about this, Georgia team, which has one of the easiest schedules in recent history, what would it be? You know, it's honestly tough. I think it probably would be just on that defense, but that is not even necessarily that the defense is a concern. It's just sort of like, okay, who's going to end up standing out in this group, right? I think that they feel like that they've got a couple of guys that can be those people, but it's still just one of those things where it's like, okay, they battle it out in the spring. They feel good about where they're at, even curvy mentioned, hey, like we felt good about 14 of the 15 practices that we had during the spring, including the game. And so I think it's really just going to be figuring out who are going to be those next landmark names like a Jalen Carter, like in the Kobe dean, like a Nolan Smith on that defensive side of the football because I think there's enough confidence in the transfer wide receivers. I personally like rah rah Thomas a lot in his skill set. And obviously they've still got Brock Bowers, but I think finding who those standouts are going to be on defense is really the biggest question mark coming into this because as you mentioned, it's certainly doesn't look like they're going to get beaten by the schedule. No, Harry and we've heard the roster and you alluded to it with the bus line. I mean, it's the probably not probably, is deeper than anyone. So considering the difficult off season in spite of the winning the national championship, the tragedy that everyone has talked about, how would you characterize the psyche of this team and what Kirby smart faces probably more off the field than on the field? You know, that's interesting you mentioned that because obviously they did do a tribute at the beginning of the game where they started without an offensive lineman.

"Are listening to the Paul finebaum show podcast. We are back and let's continue getting some calls on here and Dale is in Colorado. Hey, Dale. Hey, Paul, how you doing today? We're doing well. Thank you. Hey, so yeah, I just got a couple of comments and I would like to hear your rebuttal on them. And I'll hang up and listen. But so I was G day and I think beg did an adequate job. He made some great throws. I mean, ty windows, the wheel route, down the sideline, was a great throw. So that's one thing. And then I think he's probably pretty sale in the starting position. And another thing on the bare Alexander thing. I know we can't speculate on where he's going, but I don't think it's as big as a loss as people are going to try to make it out to be because of Georgia's specs next and fill us up on the defensive line. Yeah, I agree with that. Hey, thank you, Dale. Thanks for the phone call. Let's check in with will in Tuscaloosa. Hey will. What's up, Bo, how are you? We're doing well. Thank you. Yes, I was just wondering about the transfer portal for Alabama, the latest, heavy party big night. Well, I don't think you're going to hear much, because Alabama is still playing. I mean, they have a game this Saturday. So you're certainly no one's going to leave. Before they came, I don't think. And usually, if you have somebody in the portal, you're likely to tell them to wait until after the game. Let's say you had a quarterback. How embarrassing would it be? To have, let's say, Vanderbilt. Say, I'm going to Alabama while you're still having a competition going on. And we got into this earlier. This new rule in the second window, it's not if you leave after the first window, you can just show up. But this is a more complex window and start in terms of eligibility within the SEC for the upcoming season. Thanks for the call. Logan and Arkansas, you are on. Hello, Logan. Hello, mister Paul. So I planned on calling to talk to you about LSU baseball. But then you had two callers, Dustin and Duane. And I just want to let you know that not all LSU fans are like that. But I heard you say that you thought KJ Jefferson and Jayden Daniels were going to be good quarterbacks. For the teams this year and I was just wondering if you paid any attention to how they played. Well, Jayden Daniels last season and KJ in the past three C I believe he's been at Arkansas. Yeah, I've seen both of them play. Well, I don't understand why you think they should be good. I don't know what you saw last year. I thought Daniel's at times looked very good. Go back to the Alabama game. I mean, he was, he had some moments of absolute brilliance in KJ. I mean, yeah, there was some inconsistency, but I still think he begins the season among the very best in the league. This is not a vintage year for quarterbacks. This is not last year when you had Bryce young and Anthony Richardson levitt's and a lot of other players out there. Remember all the what we expected were or Georgia, excuse me, a and M players. So things are a little bit different right now. I really don't think so. Okay. Well, Logan ranked, how would you rank the top 5 quarterbacks in the SEC then? Oh, really? I really don't have an answer for that question. Oh, okay. I really don't. But okay, well, let me make it easy. So you don't have an answer, but you know it's not Jefferson or Daniels, right? I'm not saying that. Look, I'm not putting words in your mouth. You just called and corrected me because I thought they were both among the very best quarterbacks. So all I'm doing is asking you to give me one name. One name, I'm not going to make you give me 5. Just give me one name, you would put ahead of them. Well, certainly, his father doesn't hurt matters, but I don't agree. How about that? I think he's a good quarterback. I mean, he may end up being the starter, but even if he, even if he is, I'll still take KJ Jefferson. You're taking KJ Jefferson over no smarter. Well, Brian Kelly took Jayden Daniels over him, most of last season, didn't he? You got me there, but yeah, no, I think I did. Well, listen, I don't want to get you again, so I'll let you go. Mike is, I'll tell you, why don't we go to the break? We've got a guest coming in. I don't want to run into our guest time because he was at the Georgia game over the weekend. "So it could have easily been 9 and four yeah, absolutely. I think the liberty game inexcusable. I won't even call, that was but that was the liberty game was the last second game. So there's three last second games. Let me see if I can find another one. No. Missouri, yeah. There were four last second games by my count, correct? Yeah, you're absolutely right. A Missouri LSU liberty, a and M. Yeah, that's right. Yeah. And then we got to be pretty hard by Bama. And again, that was a close game for a minute. When Bryce went out, that game was in Arkansas came back. I am not laughing you off. I promise you, I'm not laughing at you. I'm just shortly. No, I don't think you're rude enough to laugh at me on national television. Paul, you would never do something like that. That would be horrendous. No, not anymore. I mean, I've done it in the past, but I promise never to do it again. I think he assumed that our Arkansas was going to beat LSU too, right? So that means Arkansas beats LSU to make up for that last second game last year. And Arkansas instead of LSU is Bama's biggest contender, right? Dwayne, you're from Louisiana. Welcome back cocaine on your show. You talking about all the stuff on the Alabama beat them people. You know everybody know how to start going over and beat nobody. It ain't gonna be no LSU either. Well, I think that's what he said. I think he had LSU in that group. And another thing to add a guy talking about the other guy you had on before that dumbo. Bring home and that'll tell me what it takes for an Alabama for helm and now the township. I don't know that township this year. This year. That's great. Look at that screen. And another thing I want to tell you too. Well, you tell Marcus Peter on that big guy that he found with ESPN. Yeah, I heard Marcus broke the bank. Yeah, he broke the bank. You know that. You know he broke the bank. You know, but he didn't call you and tell you. I heard about it. Yeah, no, you heard about it, but he called you, don't you? He did tell me. He told me Friday night. Oh, he told you, Bo, all right, Dave, yeah. All right, man. Let's go get a natural township this year. And everybody know that we the kings of the hill. We taking over the west. Like you said it was wide open. We got it. I mean, even Bama in Tuscaloosa Duane? Yeah, we gonna get him. We gonna get him a pen. We gonna get him out there. You better hope that Jimbo official don't get your leg, if it'll get you first. Before we get you, they won't get to before we come. Were you Dwayne? Were you alive the last time LSU? Well, yeah, it was only four years ago. So I shouldn't ask that question. What? I mean, outside of the Joe burrow win a couple of years ago, you have to go back to 2011. Where about that man? We ain't worried about that number because the year that I beat us is a we're going to last both of them down with last seconds. Last second, last second touchdown. Dwayne pardon me if I don't speak, but pardon me if I don't really believe you what you're saying here. You don't believe me. No, I don't believe you. You better check that up, then. Pick it up. Put the code. I'll tell you. I don't think you really know what you're talking about. I don't like this shit. You want to see what I'm talking about this year. I'll be able to beat the clap out y'all real big Tennessee too. We'll be alive. 28 points last year. At home in fear, Tiger stadium. The eagle that ball eagle is like the fly before the game. We gonna shoot that out the sky. Oh, come on man. We can't have that. I mean, we can have fun. But that's an endangered that's an endangered species you're talking about. I mean, you'll spend the rest of your life in leavenworth if you try that, I'm trying to help you here, Duane. Don't be going down that road about. War eagle, whatever its name is these day. "That pageantry of college football lives here. This is the Paul fine bomb show hour three podcast. And we're back. I heard a while shorting us from a few minutes. He was at the G day game and asked him over the weekend. We'll get his on the field take. Let's check in with Ryan, who is up next, a hello, Ryan. Hello, how are you, Paul? Very well. Thank you for calling. I've been watching for a few years, but this is the first time call. A few callers ago, the guy mentioned something about the quarterback to Alabama and you wasn't sure about that and whatever. So let's just skip past that. What do you think that Alabama has to do with this year to bring another ring to Tuscaloosa? Your number one thing on offense, your number one thing on defense that we didn't do last year. Well, I think offense, it's a combination of an offense of a good offensive line which they did not have last year and superb quarterback play, but on defense, I think the defense just needs to be more aggressive. And what was the problem last year in the Tennessee game? They got torched. Now, again, they got torched by the best offensive coach in the country and one of the best QBs with a complement of a couple of first round picks at wide receiver, but it was just poorly called, will that be better this year with Kevin Steele? My guess is yes. But there was no aggression. There was just nothing happening. And I think overall this is not what you asked me, but another problem last year was just a lack of lack of discipline. You know, penalties. I think that will be corrected. I saw improvement on that as a season toward the end of the season. So a quick follow-up, what are you hoping to see of in the 8 day game coming up this weekend? As far as far as determining the quarterback? Well, I think just how what kind of pressure do they put on those players, and I'm guessing not a lot. And just what, how do you look in a live situation? They've already seen that in scrimmages, but there's a difference between two young quarterbacks who don't have much experience. One has virtually none. The other one has started a game and filled in, what do you look like, however many people, you know, 50, 60,000 people in the stands in a real setting versus a controlled setting with a hundred of Nick Saban's closest friends. Yes, sir. Well, I agree. Thank you for your time. Thank you very much. I think I don't want to be dismissive of spring games. I mean, they have a purpose, but the purpose is whatever the coach wants. Now, what's the one thing Nick Saban really doesn't want, he doesn't want his two quarterbacks to go out there and lose confidence. Because I'll never forget it was 2014. I was down in Tuscaloosa for the spring game and I don't know whether we drove together or sat together on the plane. Whatever. Joey galley and I were together going back to Tuscaloosa from Tuscaloosa to Birmingham. And I said, well, what do you think? He just railed on the Alabama quarterback. He said, I'm not sure Alabama can win 8 games with that guy. That guy led Alabama to the playoffs. In an SEC championship. So he wasn't good enough to win the championship, but he was good enough. And by the way, I mentioned Joey. He's a far more knowledgeable than I am. So I was curious. I didn't know what to make out of it. I mean, I'm watching, because you don't know the setup. You don't know what in the world the coaches have laid out when this is not just a normal scrimmage where anything goes. The quarterbacks are live, but live to a point. Thanks for the call. Dustin is in Tulsa. You're on the air. Hello Dustin. Hey, there, Paul. Good afternoon. Good afternoon. Hey, wanted to talk racer back. Man, it feels like a pretty good week to be a hog. Swept the balls in baseball. Muscleman taken over the transfer portal and the spring game looks physical. I think we're going to be kind of a lunch pail team. With that blue collar work ethic, that thing that Sam Pittman's famous for really proud of your check is done with the program and to that end, I'd like to have a thoughtful answer from you. I know it's your show and you can answer however you want to, but I'll ask you not to just brush me aside here. Like I said, I understand I've got a little bit of bias here, but I really feel like there's some good things ahead for Arkansas on all fronts, especially in football. I think it's not outside the realm of possibility to say that we'll be at 9 from when team. I think we'll actually beat them this year. And I think KJ Jefferson is going to be a contender for the Heisman. Now, I understand you probably disagree with me on some of that and here's what I'll ask you to give a thoughtful answer instead of just brushing it aside if you do disagree. Why is that? Well, I'm not going to brush it aside because I frankly think the west is open. And someone has an opportunity like last year to come in and get it. That is as much of a statement about Alabama as it is on Arkansas. So I ask you this question. Why do you think Alabama? Is going down to Arkansas? Part of it is just due, it's been way too many years. Dustin, let me stop you. We simply don't allow that to be an answer here. That's what guys on here. That's what guys on the ESPN say. I mean, when they can't think of anything else, I go, wow. Stephen a baptist do. All right. Where is it? Where's the game this year? It's a game in Tuscaloosa. Part of it's a gut feeling, but really, I feel like when was the last time you got one of these gut feelings right? About Arkansas. Oh, I thought we'd be cancers in the bowl game. But for real Paul, I think that I think that Sam Pittman has made that a focal point and I think they've come close to getting it figured out. Other than other than quarterback play, and this is not how you always win, but it's an important if you look at the matchup between Alabama and Arkansas. Other than QB, where else is Arkansas have an edge? I think we've got the edge in running backs. I really do. Especially if we get Dominique Johnson back if he's healthy. Okay. I feel like I feel like we're going to have an edge at wide receiver. Now I know we've got some guys that need to come together in and coalesce a little bit. But that's the kid that was a freshman last year. He looked sharp. Dustin, if what you say is true, it's a bad sign for our Alabama. I don't know what it means for Arkansas, but I think Arkansas is capable of doing what you're talking about. I'm not saying it's impossible. I probably won't. Forecast it. But I think Arkansas was close enough last year. I mean, they lost two games. That's a very end. They lost to a and M on the final play. They lost to LSU in the final series. So those are two games. I'm sure I'm missing one. But no, no, you're good there. You've been there. So if you change that, I mean, what's the record of Arkansas? What was Arkansas final record last year? 7 and 6. So it could have easily been 9 and four yeah, absolutely.

"I think I'm going to have to do this now and again there are moments when I have to just geek out. So it's a perfect place to do it. We've noticed him falling out of the tree. He manages to suture himself up. How does he manage to suture himself up because of this costar of the movie, which is his knife? Soon, we'll see the scene of him with teasel. This is an iconic image of the whole movie after he's downed all the other members of teasers team. He just comes out of nowhere out of the dark, puts this massive knife up against his neck and he says, don't push it, right? Leave it, drop it. What is that knife? Well, when I was a kid, I wanted that knife badly. It was designed by this man, Jimmy lyell. That's the knife. That's sly with Jimmy. A legend and utter legend in the industry. I bought cheap Chinese knock offs when I was 14 years old, and then eventually when I got to a certain age, I afforded myself a real one. And here it is. I brought it into the studio. We're going to geek out. This is one of the knives made by Jimmy lyell exactly the same as the one that sly used in the movie. They took the classic U.S. Air Force survival knife, doubled the size, hollowed out the handle. You've got the compass that you see him using the movie. You've got the sutures. You've got the needle and thread, the fishing line. So the only difference between boys and men are the price of their toys, Chris. It's such a cool prop. So that was an actual produced product before the film. No, no, no, no, no. No, no, no. No, no, no. That was made. Sly went to the most famous knife custom knife maker and said, we need to come up with something that's iconic that he could have as his only weapon. That became the first blood knife and then Lyle made one for each of his movies, so

"Jumping into a game? I mean, does it really do we really just say the bucks are good and the pistons are bad? Like one 17 to 89 bucks. Still missing starters box. But yeah, they still missing starters, but the pistons are really bad. Jeremy grant kind of bounces back with 21 points, but Kate Cunningham, two for 14 from the field, including zero for 9. Yikes. That's not great. Still very early, and that's not reason to suddenly beat only two guys in double figures for the pistons in the game. The worst out of all 8 for 47 for three, if you take out Jeremy grant and Killian Hayes, who combine to go 6 for 12, they were two for 35. That's impressive. That's hard to do. That's yeah, Trey lyles was two for 8, Frank Jackson was over 5 Cunningham. We already said over 9 city bay, two zero for four, only two for 13 from the field overall yeah. Just about as bad a game as the pistons could play in the box did enough to win behind Yanis. And kind of munchkin type lineup. So his brother's not small because he's kind of bulky, but the NASA is starting at the 5 right now for Milwaukee. We'll see because there's no real clarity on holiday or Lopez. We now know Chris Middleton's going to fail for ten days. So at least, and we'll see from there. Let me ask you this. The pistons minus Jeremy grant or Killian Hayes, shooting from three in a three point shooting competition against blindfolded Steph Curry, who are you taking? Oh, that's a good question. I assume. He gets up and it's just muscle memory or the pistons, no blindfolds, just shooting. So like last night's pistons, staff takes 35, three pointers, staff. A hundred be crazy. I was thinking the same thing. Yeah, it probably. Now I'm caught on. That's a good question because now I'm wondering how it makes..

That's not a great deal to me. it's That i don't wanna say that it doesn't matter but like considering like i think it's just kinda like it's whatever that's movable I don't mind watch. And he was fine in detroit on no big deal. It's tiny money and they signed Trey lyles to a two year five million dollar contract. So i don't entirely hate that like like whatever miles could be useful. Assault floorspace pacers. That's really all. I have andre. Lyles like he was really weird with him with. Aw chan tonio. Last year. Because i know he was almost involved in a trade at some point in the year and then it fell through and or he ended up not being part of the trade then it just kind of made things weird between him and the and the team in front office in general Which was just kind of weird. But overall i'm interested to see what detroit does stokes. They have some room to work with What do you wanna talk about the draft. How'd you feel about the draft. So yes so for detroit's draft they drafted cade cunningham number one overall. It's an obvious home run. It's the pick. Everyone thought they should make the pick. They should've made. And it's the pick midday and made They've got a legitimate number one on their team. Now i think keith. Cunningham is going to be a franchise player. And he's the exact kind of player that i think he'd want to build around when you're early in your rebuild at least early ish. I think he'll play pair pretty well next to killian hayes. Although there are some some your turn my turn. Things i think to work out in terms of Killian getting a little bit better as a catch and shoot player. But that'll come with time in caid will encourage that kind of development because killing. We'll have to play off baltimore. You will have to get used to that. And it's something. I think he's capable of They drafted isaiah livers michigan at number forty two. I generally generally don't begrudge second round picks. He's you know he's a from a state school. Which is kinda neat. Nothing that i think is a huge benefit per se. But it's fun. And i like it. And he's a shooter and the team needed shooters. I don't hate that value at all. He's pretty fun. Look garza fifty-two. Honestly like i wouldn't have drafted luca garza personally but if you can take a guy who was that good in college. That late in the draft picks..

"The right. Not the females are the everybody we tend to look for information that confirms what we already believe is proven with science so. My father is very conservative politically and so if we talk if we watch the exact same news conference he will say did you see how xyz reinforces and i myself independent. I don't like either side. But i'm very much extreme right. So i'll say but what about abc. I saw those things that reinforced my belief. And so we can literally how the exact same experience and take it completely different ways and that's because of confirmation bias so i think knowing that can help you understand better and your tendencies and it can also help you communicate better with people. So that's one thing that setting psychology can help you in life in business. That was laura. Peterson involved in ten for you to go back and listen to that in its entirety but here is how important confirmation bias really is i was introduced to my next guest and i met the man he is today. Not the man. He was two and a half decades ago and because my biased kicked in. I missed the whole reason. Lyle may is in prison. My team had to come to me and ask me if i had really been unbiased in all portrayal of history to that i want to say yes. Loud may is on death row for committing an unthinkable crime. But i'm not going to address details of what got him into prison. You can however read about them in his memoir waiting for the last train. I've decided to approach this from the perspective of the man. He is now because the truth is there is no easy way to talk about this subject. We need to talk about it. So especially for an entrepreneur like you listening in here knowing the bias. You have is paramount so today we are talking with laude and i have to say that this is one of the most intellectual conversations i've had in my life. You know what i mean. Because he starts by talking about social psychology. I think i really advanced my understanding of not just social psychology but his and its relation to economics trends when i began reading a malcolm. Cloud will I'm a big fan of his work and When i read the book tipping point. It really began me to look at large-scale social psychological phenomenon. And how they influenced are thinking through trench. Another example would be I think one of his books. What's called blink. And it's this idea that we form our judgements about people and events and situations in in a matter of seconds and that a lot of times that we don't we don't stop to go back over our thoughts about those events. We just go with that. I stereotypes judgment of a situation and a lot of the balti- thinking falacious thinking occurs in that period Because we don't revisit it again we go through. This idea of confirmation is that we don't need to seek this confirming evidence you haven't piece it all together yet. While may is on death row. He's also the author of multiple books and The most important book which i have read in its entirety is called the crimson letters. Would you can find on amazon. The link to that will be in the show notes which you can find. Add psychology of entrepreneurship dot com. Lyle what can we on the outside learned from you on the inside. The major thing that people outside can learn about people in prison as we were just like you. We just didn't have the same background. Or maybe we had the same background. We just didn't have the same opportunities. Or maybe we had the same opportunities but we made the wrong decisions. It's important to remember that people in prison are human beings and that they have the greatest need for understanding and the greatest need for the people on the outside to remember that prisons are public responsibility there not holes in the ground or you'd throw people forget about now. They are a system that catches the failures of other systems. And the sooner that the public understands that. I believe that we can begin to change that. This is fascinating. What don't we know about prison. Lyle so i think it's important to know that Even though a lot of people are most people believe it. Prisons are are there to keep society. Prisoners are in of society is failures not Any proactive or preemptive attempt to Dress public safety there. You know what happens when those efforts fail The people who are in prison are educated. They're mentally ill. they're poor. They're marginalized and all the things that led to their commission of crimes for those that did commit crimes You know are just really indicative of the failings of multiple systems and society and that's kind of the heart of what prison abolition is about. I have to admit. I've i've come lake to the conversation on snape. Listen i have. I have My education clang of from the ladies the digital abolitionist so calamity columbia university and they've really educate me on on what prison abolition means and it simply not that we're just doing away with prisons is that we're doing away with the societal lead person and i think that's important distinction. That people need to be aware of that at prisons. Are you know the catch. All of society's ills of economic disparities of of racial injustice of police brutality and The reaction of the marginalized to those Disparities in and justices prison. Abolition is a movement. That believes that incarceration in any form harm society. More than it helps. They're working towards the future in which vital needs like housing education and healthcare a met allowing people to live safe and fulfilled lives without the need for prisons. If you would like to know more about this movement and what they're doing to achieve this you can find a link with loads of useful information in the shards so here is an interesting idea. I was told that law was a moscow networker. He knew lots of people even before they were even phones allowed in prison. You know all your excuses of not being able to network will the old kinda go out the window.

No michigan is attempting to practice. But there's no guarantee that game goes on. so how does this committee Look at look at ohio state and what is the big ten due to try to help their their prize bull because it's all about ohio state in the big ten this year. Yeah i think what we're going to see is no matter what the circumstance is. The big ten is going to find a way to make sure ohio state one gets in that title game and that you know assuming that they're going to win that because i personally think that you know ohio state is headed shoulders. Better than everybody else. I think he could have. Probably honestly you take. Justin feels off that team and they would still be much much much better than the second best team. Whoever you want to pick their whether it's our indiana who else And it's kind of funny right. Ohio say always ends up finding itself in this position. Where if they're not already in it's like hey like j. Should be the fourteen in or maybe they shouldn't be the four team in But i think no matter what here. They should feel pretty confident about their circumstances. You know whether or not they actually play on saturday or not. Because there's just no way that the big ten is going to send any other representative to play off other than ohio state this

Britt Lyle II on design
"Your host Maris cherry and this week. I'm talking with Britt Lyle the second a Motion Graphics designer here in Atlanta, Georgia. Let's start the show. All right. So tell us who you are and what you do. My name is Britt Lyle. I am a motion graphic designer. I'm a graphics assistant at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Now, I've been asking everyone, you know kind of starting off for these interviews how they're sort of holding up right now, you know, we're recording this right now in late September. It's pretty easy. I think well known that we're going to be in the states for a while. Now, how have you been holding up during this pandemic? Oh, wow, there have been like there been good days and bad days. I've been holding up generally well, but like there have been, you know good days and bad days. Like I said I tend to deal with anxiety sometimes so that has been kind of a struggle wage. Kind of cope with along with like just regular anxiety Then the election and covid-19. Like one of the things I learned in grad school is like you have to take time to for yourself, especially in stressful situations. And this entire year has just been one big stressful situation off. So it's very very important to like make yourself as comfortable as possible. Especially someone who like regularly deals with anxiety and off. Yeah, so I just basically just tried to make sure that if I feel like in some type of anxiety attack coming that I make sure to remove myself from the situation and ground myself before coming back to reality so to speak gotcha. Now let's talk about your work at sports and entertainment and can you kind of briefly describe what a MB sports and entertainment is and just sort of what is a regular day like for you right now since you're working from home, so am be Sports entertainment. We are sort of like a company within a company job. We do work for the Atlanta Falcons and Atlanta United. My job specifically is Graphics assistant. So basically that means I help out anyone else you need help with any other big project whether it's coming up with Gameday Graphics video editing color correction or any other regular or irregular occurrence. I might occur to you today. How did you get started there on a whim a lot of a lot of the jobs that I've gotten in particularly designed jobs of Applied on a whim. So I was laid off at my previous job, which I was very very sad about and I was just applying applying everywhere that I can and I saw the post for graphics assistant at a MB. And again, it was one of those things for me. It's like I can't in good conscience past this up and say Thursday. I tried everything that I could so I apply thinking that like I wouldn't hear anything and they turned out to be one of the few people that actually gave me like like three rounds of interviews and hired me within like a month. Nice. Yeah, so you mentioned, you know kind of working on these, you know, not random projects, but you kind of work on an ad-hoc basis as an assistance. So are there any sort wage projects that you like take the lead on or you always kind of working in that second kind of capacity mostly in a secondary capacity because there are people who have been there since the building open since as soon as construction ended they hired a design team and those and some of those people have left but there are still some people have been there since its Inception and they kind of know they build out the process. They're the ones who really like all the assignments all of the the dimensions birth. All the renders all of these little details. They're the ones who built it from the ground up and I'm essentially follow the process. I'll give my two cents every now and then if I feel like it'll help but for the most part they have pretty much have like a game plan laid out for how certain things are done and how certain things are processed. And so, you know, just so folks name Mercedes-Benz stadium in Atlanta is fairly new. I think it was opened and what 2018-2017 2017-2017? Okay, and then prior to that it not in the same space, but pretty close to it was the Georgia Dome that's where I used to work actually years and years and years and years ago. I worked for the Georgia Dome the the Georgia World Congress Center and since Olympic Park, so I'm familiar with that whole kind of campus area and I know back then I mean Georgia Dome all that is owned by the state, but Mercedes-Benz is privately owned. Do you know if off? Any of the the Congress Center staff works there also since it's so close not intimately like I think some people transferred but I mean as far as I know most people have been there since MBS was a thing. I'm not sure if any other people from Georgia Congress moved on to other projects, but I do know that they got a lot of different people from a lot of different places to kind of help build this team up. Yeah. I was just always curious about that cuz I still know a good number of people over there so long what's the best thing you would say about the work that you do? All of the work that I do is like kind of unconventional and well, I guess not unconventional like sort of a dimension sizes that I do that I work with like no one else in the world really works with these type of Dimensions cuz inside the stadium there's this song Halo board, and it's like six feet high, I think it's got like Fifty four thousand LED lights on it and the the file sizes and the dimensions that we work with are just pretty unorthodox and pretty wild to kind of like work with and when I first got started, you know someone I got trained in art school or just doesn't in designing was as the standard 1920 x 1080 and then suddenly I have to deal with sizes that are like fifty thousand nine fifty thousand five thousand or ten thousand sizes and it's kind of weird but it's also kind of cool cuz like you you kind of makes my portfolio stand out a little bit off and yeah, I guess that would be the best thing is that like I do I do the type of design that are very different than anyone else does and it may be kind of hard to put on social. Which is why I tend to put it on my website, but at the same time like not a lot of people can say they have designed the stuff that I designed and

Dallas Cowboys make handful of roster moves, activate Brown from IR
"Tyron Smith is now gone for the year it was announced on Friday two days ago Mike. McCarthy confirmed the report from NFL networks. Mike Fellow and Jane Slater Day before Mike McCarthy confirmed the tarrant Smith will undergo season ending surgery next week the cowboys are hopeful that he'll be back in two thousand and twenty one the Dallas cowboys already down there other offensive tackle in Lyle Collins Who Unlike Tyran Smith did not play a down this season. Also, it's worth mentioning that Travis Frederick. Retired shortly after Mike McCarthy took over as head coach his replacement if you want to call them that in Joe Looney. A sprained MC l. he is scheduled or slated I should say to miss the next two to three weeks just depends how that's going to go tyler beyond the cowboys fourth round rookie out of Wisconsin. Same place they got Travis. Frederick. Of course, seemingly is a much more stable option than anybody that's going to replace tarrant Smith or Lyle Collins but I bring all of this up to say that when my McCarthy. Signed his contract to be the head coach of the Dallas cowboys he did. So with likely knowledge that at the very least tired smitten, Lyle Collins would be playing for his football team and quite possibly unless you knew at the time that Travis Frederick was going to retire the Travis. Frederick. would be playing as well. So he's now down sixty percent of the offensive line he thought that he. Would have their many defensive players that are out Joe McCoy. One of the teams biggest off season signings is gone because he got hurt on the first day of practice and so this this team and where they are a month into the season is very different than the one Mike McCarthy sat down implant. That's all I'm saying it is definitely true that you have to adjust in the NFL. That's life things happen injuries happen with stuff happens that sports that's life like I said and so Mike McCarthy ultimately has to be held responsible for that because he's the head coach that's the hat that he wears, but it is worth saying and that's why I said now let's talk about some of these injuries and some of the roster moves the Dallas cowboys made ahead of this game on. Saturday day before this that you and I are talking day before game. Day the. Dallas. Cowboys made a handful of roster adjustments. It had been rumored all week long that Anthony. Browne would be returning from injured reserve and remember that injured reserve operates differently due to cove nineteen protocols and now nfl players only have to be on injured reserve for three weeks before they are eligible to return Anthony Brown. Is Eligible to return. It was speculated all week long that he would rejoin the cowboys they are in massive need of help in their secondary. So they officially Anthony Brown bag he is the first player that the Dallas cowboys have brought back off of injured reserve so far this season other candidates for this potential obviously include Sean Lee late and vanish. We'll see about cam irving things like that. But Anthony Brown I one. So the cowboys activated Anthony Brown. He is now part of the fifty three man roster, of course. So is Francis Bernard a fan favourite linebacker, undrafted free agent linebacker out of Utah many people, Francis, Bernard in the training camp portion of the year. Obviously no preseason he is. Now on the fifty three man roster, the cowboys have needed massive help in the linebacker. Department So far this season

Farming Releases Carbon From The Earth's Soil Into The Air. Can We Put It Back?
"Okay Dan. Let's dig in digging in return. Lol. was in Nigeria trying to improve agriculture by making the ground more fertile running into some big problems. You should know something about how he is not the sort of guy who's going to give up I am by nature. Competitive. You're either going to be in the top one, two, three, four hours you're not under survive. This attitude goes back to his childhood He grew up poor in India, his ticket out of the village was a government stipend a few dollars each month to study at university. And only keep getting that stipend if his grades were in the top five in the class I've always scared if I did not get good grades. Ira Not got these type and. So that was the motivator always. Fear. It was fear. Of Insecurity He that's. In security never really napped me even when. He found his way to the US for Grad School at Ohio. State. got a PhD in Soil Science. And so now picking up our stories back in Nigeria determined to find a way to protect the soil in his research plots. And one day. A famous scientist came to visit Roger rebel one of the pioneers in what we now call climate science. So Pretend Lau tells rebel about his problems how this organic matter just keeps disappearing. And reveal says you know the organic matter is going into the air as carbon dioxide. That's the main greenhouse gas. Any asks reten lower question. Can you put it back? Can you put it back like put the carbon back into the soil Yep? That's simple statement. Can you put it? was. My introduction. Climate and so it stuck with you. It's stuck with me. It's still there. Dude. Yeah. It sounds like a question that changed his life. Yeah. It's sort of brought together these two worlds. On the one hand there's farming which loud had been focused on and on the other hand there's climate science our heating up the globe releasing greenhouse gases and Dan this problem we should say retain was trying to solve in Nigeria where too much carbon escapes when you use land to grow food this is it's not a problem specific to one country. Oh, it's it's happening everywhere. it happens perhaps faster in Nigeria where the because of the hot climate and the physical structure and chemical makeup of the soil. But same thing happens everywhere that people are growing crops. So you know just an example, the American Midwest couple of hundred years ago when that was all covered with grass, that soil was really rich in carbon then settlers arrived plowed it all up. And immediately that released carbon dioxide into the air tons of it from every Acre of soil and today roughly half of the carbon across the Midwest is gone well, scientists have actually come up with an estimate for the total amount of carbon released from soil around the world. Since people started farming, you want hear the number of course I do. What? One hundred thirty. Billion metric tons of carbon. With the be okay. That sounds that sounds like a lot. So it is a lot. In perspective at the current rate that the US is burning fossil fuels, it would take us a quarter century to release that much carbon dioxide okayed. So Dan, you're saying that while he was working on ways to get that carbon back into the ground, how exactly did he start to do that? Okay. So this idea what people call carbon sequestration in soil really became his calling card. When he came back to Ohio state, you know to teach in the late nineteen eighties he was writing articles giving. Describing the soil as this vast global reservoir of carbon. So farmers have been depleting the reservoir releasing carbon into the air. But he started doing experiments to see if they could also refilled at reservoir with the West malts experiment. And it was setup totally back in one, thousand, nine, hundred, and nine. So, this isn't an all moon allow. He's a PhD student at Ohio State in one of lyles students. and. He is showing me one of these experiments was going for thirty years small squares of soil. Universities. Research Farm. Dedication. Experiment keep going and see these long term phenomenon inaction anyway. So some of the plots have been covered with mulch made of Straw every year others have stayed bear and those bare soil plots now contain less than one percent carbon versus the carbon content in plot the receives maximum amount of Mulch is probably upwards four percent. Okay four percent versus one percent. That's a lie. Yeah. That's actually a huge difference. If you have that big of a difference in an Acre of soil depending how deep you're measuring, that would be thirty tonnes of carbon. If you extended that across all American crop land, it would be billions of tons of additional carbon in the ground. It would cancel out the about one year's worth of the country's total fossil fuel burning. and. It also makes saw better in a fertile at holds more water contains more nutrients like nitrogen, the life blood of soil organic

SF Giants Off to Successful Season Start
"It's a new world of Giants baseball. And frankly, it's been a very good week for the Giants and a continued last night as the Giants beat the Texas Rangers 7 to 3. It was a close game for a while. Look like it was going to be 4 to 2 of 5 to 2. And then the things happen a little bit later. And the Giants ended up winning the game 7 to 3 over the Texas Rangers for the Giants. After that, 1st 2 games down in L. A Things are much better for them. 43 runs scored for the Giants. They've given up 50 so they have a run differential of minus seven. But you start the season might is 15 after a couple of games and you see they have whittled that down. But for the Giants last night against Texas was men and boys, really the Texas pitching staff 11 walks And a hit batter for the Texas pitching staff. Last night, Jordan Lyles was all over the place and helped the Giants tremendously with all the walks that he gave up, and for the Giants, they took advantage of it, and it was really nice to see A ball club that is doing something offensively and To those of us who've watched Giants baseball for so long. You know, that offense has always been somewhat of a question for the Giants over these last 10 or 11 years of tremendous results with great pitching. But the offense has always been a question. Now. All of a sudden the offense is leading the way and the pitching is doing fine. You know, Drew Smyly last night. We'll talk about the game. But you, smiley I ended up going four innings than leaving the game with the discomfort of the index finger. So that means a trip to a Dr Scott Hampson. I'm sure and two of the hand therapists, Nancy And I know them both very well. And he's going for an M R I on that index finger, so ligament issue or something like that. But Smiley did go four innings last night for the Giants and continue that streak of no starting pitcher going five innings. For the Giants, and that's the longest streak in the history of Major league baseball. So today they look to Jeffs a margin to try to break that. See if he can give him five good innings today. But continuing with last night, 52 at our be eyes. For the Giants to out and they got the hit to drive in a run three for 10 with runners in scoring position,
