"Moreno who's a terrific young catching prospect in that deal. Goryeo came in and they have a lot of good young players. You know, two of the teams that really look like they're much better positioned now and obviously Orioles came up last year. So that's no surprise. The other one, to me, the Diamondbacks, you know, looking at them a year ago, you're like, what the heck's going to happen with this? Right. Now, they look like they have a future. That dimension, it's tough, yeah. Your Padres, they look like one of the best two or three teams in the game. Wild card I'm not ruling them out. Yeah, what was interesting about the Diamondbacks? I don't know. It seemed like at some point in the season, they decided they were going to go all in on the young guys. They started calling some of these guys up. And they allowed them to go out and play. And so now they all have another year of experience to have a year of experience under them. They're going to come in a little more confident. Now, where does that get them in the NOS? Like we both said, don't really know. But it's going to be interesting to watch. The other thing I want to talk about is Otani. Now, he's not a free agent until after this year. But I think a lot of the moves specifically the Dodgers are one of those teams. And it sounds like the Padres are going to be involved in this as well. I think the Dodgers are basically going to get under this threshold this year. They're going to stay under it so that they can now then attack this ohtani thing next year without the tax hanging over their head. Yeah, I think that is it. I mean, I think we've speculated exactly what's going with the Dodgers. They were linked to judge early. They were linked to all the shortstops, basically, didn't do any of the big moves. Their payrolls down by about $70 million and that's got to be one of the motivating factors. I don't think there's any question. And you know, I'm Tony, I could see the Padres, I didn't put anything past them. I think speculation is probably good. They were in the mix last time. I know they impressed him. He kind of had to go to the American League last time because he needed a DH now. He can go anywhere. I think the assumption is he likes Southern California. So it could be a Padres, Dodgers, battle, but you know, Steve Cohen still out there still a lot of other possibilities, but the word was last time. And I've written about this is that he did not want to go to New York. Now I've talked to his people and that was years ago and of course, you know, they have to keep the medicine Yankees involved if they are going to be involved. So, you know, and obviously it's oftentimes it's about the money, although with him he really, it really wasn't the first time and he hasn't shown he's put up with, you know, he played it safe in terms of the money. So far, and he's going to be rewarded with probably a $500 million deal, which is something I wrote about a few weeks ago and I've seen other people have kind of latched onto that as a possibility. I mean, the Padres, I don't put anything past them. I mean, you can remember when they couldn't afford chase headley. Now they've got, you know, four superstars on the team counting Darvish and who knows what they may do, but the Dodgers look like, you know, I mean, that's obviously a big market. Was the New York thing? Was it just about the east coast? Was it about New York? Is it still true? We don't know. Is LA? LA was too big for Rendon, and he didn't go there, which actually turned out to be a benefit to them. You know, Willie, maybe he likes the idea of San Diego. Who doesn't? Isn't it what they call an America's finest city? They do indeed. You're there. You've lived there your whole life other than other teams that you perform for. Right. It's pretty nice. So John, I mean, we've talked about the moves and there were quite a bit. Teams were not afraid to spend in this first year of this new collective bargaining agreement. What's next? What do we have left in the off season? Any moves out there still available any teams lurking to do something. Well, I still think the Marlins are probably going to trade it starter. Most of the budget is about Pablo Lopez more than Cabrera or Rogers or luzardo at this point. So we've seen the connected now to the twins, the Cardinals, rockies, you know, I think he may get traded. There aren't a ton of free agents left. I think waka is probably the best in his prime, cranky, maybe the most interesting, still kind of a shock. He's not back with the royals. It's kind of settled in there. But he's a very competitive guy. I remember when he signed originally with the Dodgers, he told me I would have, if somebody had paid me a penny more, I would have gone there. So he's a very honest fellow. Zach doesn't sugar coat much. No. He lays it out there, so maybe he will leave the royals, but he's one of the more interesting guys left. There's still shortstops left. We've still got Iglesias. We've still got andros and we still have Josh Harrison. So there are still some players left, but most of them have signed. And as you pointed out earlier, they've signed for big bucks a lot of them. Yeah, yeah, well, that is really what we have remaining. Those few guys, as I said, teams are less than a month away from reporting, John, where are you going to be at? Are you going to be all over the place, come spring training? Yep, I'm going to probably start with the mets, even though there's no career there, they still have Verlander and single out of interesting stuff going on there. Obviously, still have the highest payroll. And certainly we'll get to try to see every team. And I haven't been to Arizona for a couple of years since the pandemic hit. I was had a flight out on that march 12th or 13th. And I canceled it the night before and then baseball canceled themselves the next morning. So I haven't been to Arizona since then and I'm looking forward to it because obviously after teams are in Arizona now and a lot of the more interesting ones as soon as all the West Coast teams, which all great stories, you know, certainly starting with your Padres. One of the most interesting teams in baseball again. Without a doubt, well, it certainly is easy to cover more teams in Arizona than it is in Florida. Yes. Come on down. Come on down and get some of that convenience that we have in Arizona. That's going to end it for today's episode of big time baseball. You can catch us anywhere where you subscribe to

"In triple-A in 2015 with the nationals. Trey Turner had, I don't know if he had to sit out the first half, but he wasn't allowed to be moved until the second half of the season. And I remember Trey Turner coming into the locker room and me and him having a conversation. And him telling me, at that time, this was 2015, so this is 7 years ago. AJ preller was doing everything he could to try to find a way to get him out of that trade and getting back because I think he knew that he might have made a mistake. As you said, he acted a little too hastily. And so it's not a surprise that AJ preller is once again in the hunt. He knows talent as well as anybody in this situation. You're a San Diego guy who has connections to the Nat. So it was a weird situation because I mean, poor guy, you know, he was on one team and was with the other team that he, for a while, right? So that's a drafted player. You know, I hope they fix that rule. I don't know. That was a bizarre thing that we haven't seen. We haven't seen it since. You know, they don't do it anymore. When you're a young guy that gets drafted by a team in your mind, you're thinking you're going to be with that team, your entire career. And I think that's where Trey was at the time. Now that he's got a taste of the big league life, maybe he feels a little bit differently once the stay closer to the family. He's got a family of his own now, so he's in a much different situation than he was 7 years ago. Right. He's from Lake worth, Florida. So I think he'd like to be spring training. You know, it turned out that Nats were perfect for him. You know, located in east coast plus there's spring training is only about 25 minutes from Lake worth. So that was perfect. Not now. Now it's not going to happen. The Phillies are the big threat for Turner, I think. Yeah. Well, listen, again, another team that got pretty deep. World Series. I know. That would be a bonus. And you have to remember in the same way that the Padres made the moves they made to bring in soda knowing they were missing tatis. It would be the same thing because Harper is going to be out at least for the first half of the season. You want some offensive products. You don't want to lose all of that and Trey Turner certainly could feel some of that void. Yeah, I mean, the connection to Harper with the Nats, you know, Bogart stare has the connection that Dave dombrowski who was with the Red Sox and Boris was a shortstop for them when they won in 2018. So Phillies got some connections, but they had a meeting with Swanson. They've talked to Correa, but it feels like Philly will get a shortstop, not necessarily Turner, but that seems to be the favorite right now. It would be Philly for Turner, I would say twins probably favored for Correa. Bogarts could be anything. They're having trouble with Boston, but you know, we assume that he prefer to go back there if he could, but San Diego and many other teams really like him. I'd tell you what, I feel like not enough people are talking about Xander, 'cause he is a fine, fine ballplayer, any team that gives him was certainly having upgrade. I want to talk to you a little bit about the trade market. We don't often talk about the trade market during this time of year. It's usually the free agents, but this trade market has been fruitful for some teams. We saw the Seattle Mariners and Milwaukee Brewers make a deal. All of a sudden, Brian Reynolds of the pirates has asked the organization for a trade now. That doesn't necessarily mean that they'll be willing to trade them. He's been on he's been in trade conversations, really the last two seasons. What is this trade market shaping up to be this officer? Well, I mean, there's certainly guys who are out there. I think the Marlins pitchers, they're not going to trade Alcantara who won the Cy Young, but they're going to listen on luzardo and Cabrera and Pablo Lopez who's been on the trade block seemingly forever. Milwaukee already traded Renfro and Wong. I'm sure teams are gunning for their top pitchers, burns and Woodruff. I think they're holding on to them. So, you know, I think we've seen a couple good trades, but I'm not sure we're going to see a bunch more trades. You know, Pittsburgh doesn't have to trade Reynolds. And I understand they're talking internally like they're going to keep him, you know, his agency, CAA, that worked with the Marlins when they wanted real Muto Dell. They said he wants to go, and they dealt him. That doesn't always work. And it doesn't appear to be working in this case. The pirates, you know, they've already lost a lot of good players. I don't think their fans would take too kindly to a trade around. They did offer him the biggest deal that they've ever given anybody beyond the key Brian Hayes offer. But we don't know exactly in the years or what, but he certainly should have been offered more than him because, you know, obviously he's a much more accomplished major leaguer and, you know, I think it would be good for Pittsburgh if they just signed him. I think that would be the better thing to do. Yeah, listen, at some point, at some point, you got to start trying to win some ball games. And continuing to trade and restock with young guys who, by the way, are no guarantee that they'll get up to the big league level and be successful. You're doing your fans a disservice. So hopefully, you know, I always favor the player and what they want, but if you're an organization like the pirates, I think you gotta hang on to a guy like this. You can't keep starting from scratch and working from the bottom. You're gonna get great offers for them. I mean, there are a few outfielders on the market, non judge, who's the top guy, there's nimmo and been in attendee yoshida. But I mean, Brian Reynolds is a outstanding center Fielder who can hit and they could get a ton for him, but that would not send a good message. And I think they're concerned about that. Well, let the games begin. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, usually will be where the action falls. John, I know you got to get out of here 'cause you're a TV star as well. So I appreciate you coming along with me and we'll do it again next week. All right, great talking to you, Tony. All right, John, take care. See you. This is your operating system talking.

"What was that? USC. It's central a little bit like a Trojan march, but it didn't get all the way there for me. All right. That's that part right there is what they play all the time during games at USC. When they're driving all the time. Yeah, I didn't get the intro, but when I heard that part, there you go. All right, Darren ruff takes strike one, but I won't take credit for that one. So there's no funny business. I knew it, but I'm not going to take credit for it. Well, I take care of credit for it. You did say it. Darren ruffed the hitter against Jeff Brigham underway 8th inning. It is 11 to two, the mets over the Marlins tonight, Carlos Carrasco's game to win. Pablo Lopez's game to lose is going to set up the rubber game for one 40 tomorrow when Jesus luzardo pitch against Taiwan walker. One wonder rough is a ground ball sharply struck right at the second baseman up with a Leblanc on to first one down. Ruff was batting for the first time. These guys are putting, they're throwing them under the bus. Craig is Craig asleep right there? Is he. Okay. I was gonna say, I hope he's just asleep. Because he was pretty still there for him. Yeah. It's been that kind of a night, even for the free and post game show guy. The host, the host of the most. Tyler naquin. It takes a ball. I went through his conscious the way he was just frozen there. By the way, do you think at some point in the rules instead of throwing a position player when it's like that kind of score that you just say, okay guys, let's call them night. 100 naquin a swing and a miss. You know, there's been talk about a mercy rule. One concern you have is for the fans who have bought tickets to see 9 innings of baseball. Now is this right now entertaining for people who bought tickets if you're a match fan, maybe it is. Well, I guess so. Now I guess that erases it right there. Bitch to make when it's fell back. I think that's the biggest argument against a mercy ruler. You're right, because you pay for 9 innings. And you want to watch your guys. You want to watch that extract bat. You want to try to get an autograph after the game. I think that's that makes sense. If you want to leave, you can leave, but yeah. I think Kyle left. Kyle go. I think he wanted to leave. Left with bob. We had a special guest up here tonight. One two pitch to naquin is lined out toward shallow left coming on, sliding down the crews can't get it ball gets by him backed up by blade and nake was in its second base with a win out double here in the mets 8th inning. While we are certainly firmly on team dolphins, we had the radio voice the New England Patriots bob sosi up in the booth with us for a good chunk of the night here tonight. Bob's in town for opening day in the NFL tomorrow. Big day for the fish. Big day for the fins actually. The Finns since tua versus Mac Jones. Hill first regular season game with the dolphins. Hopes are high. I asked bob to see what you look like for the Patriots this year and he said, well, it's off a lot better. Those are better. All right, all right. I'm looking forward to tyreek

"Myers and there's also a new show on that feed hosted by Sarah lings in Mindy bell in both of those come out weekly. So I was a pleasure reading and listening and watching happy to have you on the show. Thanks, Meg. Thanks, Ben. All right, that will do it for today. Thanks as always for listening. I have two quick notes here at the end. First is that we have a follow-up on one of the dozen stat blasts that I shared in the last episode of last week. This is from sir percival listener and Patreon supporter, and he expanded on the stat blast about which teams had had the most players who were the first to be born in a particular country, and he writes on the effectively wild Discord stat blast channel. I dug into that stat blast about players being the first two debut from their country and expanded it to cover all major leagues from 1871 to present, including defunct franchises as well as including players who were born in the U.S. but had parents or grandparents from the country of interest. This way, the pirates blame address and players like him are included because I had mentioned in that step last that we couldn't account for players being of a particular descent. It was only where they were born, so sir parcell took it a step further here. He says it's likely not a 100% accurate since genealogy is tough, but it's interesting and he notes that he took the result closest to being born in the country, so a player being born there would take precedence over a player's parent being born there, which would in turn take precedence over a player's grandparent being born there, and then the most recent one of those. So for some of these guys, there's an older player who could claim to be from there, but the claim isn't as strong. For example, Duffy Lewis, who played in 1910, had a father from Peru, but Jesus luzardo was born in Peru, so it overrules Lewis despite Lewis being earlier. Interesting research, I will link to his spreadsheet on the show page. And also, I have a new Tyler Taylor mix up to report courtesy of Rey's fan and Twitter user at slim scrappy, shrapnel, scrope, tropey, there's no pronunciation guide on the Twitter handle, but the point is that he alerted me to a case of briefly mistaken identity on the raised broadcast on Wednesday, Tyler wells was pitching for the Orioles against the race whose lineup featured Taylor walls. So yes, Tyler wells, Taylor walls, fortunately for broadcasters everywhere they are not teammates and so this doesn't occur all that often, but when it does watch out and the victim here, I believe, is raised color commentator Doug wechter.

"They're happy. And that goal was set up by a really incredible backhand pass from Nikita kucherov. One time palat short side. They have been all over the New York rangers of this third period 51st shot. The first even strike goal this game gives the Tampa Bay lightning. It seemed like Tampa finally hit their stride in this game, so we might now be in for a long and wonderful series. Oh, we are ready for it. Let's go. Okay, let's move over to the NBA where the warriors got their groove back on Sunday Night in a big way. They absolutely crushed the Boston Celtics in game two of the NBA Finals one O 7 to 88. That's what's the series at one win apiece. And it was definitely a tale of two halves tiff in the first half, things were more or less even, but the warriors blew this game wide open in the third quarter outscoring the Celtics 35 14 to take a 23 point lead and ending the quarter with a Jordan pool three from D pool with the ball. Launches. That shot right there basically ended the game. The warriors won by 19, but led by as much as 29 early in the fourth. Steph Curry had 29 himself and 6 assists. Jordan Poole added 17 from the bench, so tiff this series now goes to Boston for game three on Wednesday. And in other NBA news, Quinn Snyder has stepped down after 8 seasons as head coach of the Utah Jazz on Sunday the team released a statement from Snyder that said, quote, I strongly feel they need a new voice to continue to evolve. That's it. No philosophical differences, no other reason, after 8 years, I just feel it is time to move onward. Yeah, this surprised some people tiff because get this, the jazz won 60% of their games under Snyder over the past 8 seasons. They had the best I know, the best regular season record in the NBA just last season, and they have made 6 consecutive playoff appearances, but they have never gotten past the second round, and despite Snyder saying this move was for the players tiff, it sounds like his resignation was a surprise. To those very players. ESPN's Adrian wojnarowski reported on Sunday that Donovan Mitchell, who signed a 5 year max deal with the jazz two summers ago, he is, quote, unsettled and unnerved, and wondering what this means for the future of the franchise, so interesting stuff there. Yeah, it could be a rocky road ahead for the jazz. Now, to tennis, the French Open wrapped up this weekend with Rafa Nadal proving he is still the king of clay. Even when he can't feel his foot. Yeah, the Spaniard won his 14th French Open and his record 22nd Grand Slam on Sunday, defeating Norwegian Casper Ruud in straight sets. 6 three 6 three 6 O after the match, he revealed that he had needed an injection in his foot to deal with a chronic foot injury. I was able to play during this two weeks with an extreme conditions now. I have been playing with an injections on the nerves to sleep the foot. This is crazy to me, Sarah. I hate sitting on my couch when my foot falls asleep. I can't imagine playing and winning the French Open with one. And if that's not enough, after the match, Nadal revealed that he was also suffering from a stress fracture in his rib. And as for that foot injury, he said on Sunday that he's planning to have a procedure this week that kills the nerves that send pain signals from his foot to his brain. We're going to try that works. I'm going to keep going. If that networks, I'm going to ask to myself about if I am ready to do a measure thing. He's going to ask himself, if he's ready to do a major thing. As in have a major surgery in order to keep playing tennis. So with Wimbledon right around the corner, Nadal's future sounds a bit up in the air. Wimbledon, three weeks from now, so hopefully everything goes well in the interim and we can see him there. Definitely. And on the women's side, the favorite at the start of the tournament proved she was worth all the hype on Saturday the world's number one ego SVN tech defeated American coco golf 6 one 6 three to win her second Grand Slam title in a pick up her 35th consecutive win. And for our last story from the weekend we bring your attention to baseball and my favorite topic, dogs. On Saturday, the New York Post reported that the New York mets star pitcher Max Scherzer was bitten on his throwing hand by his dog. The Internet kind of went wild as the Internet tends to, but tiff I know you're a mets fan, so what exactly happened here? Okay, so Scherzer, who is currently out with an oblique injury, is a big dog lover. He and his wife have four dogs all adopted. Lovely. Love it. And on Saturday, he tweeted that his dog Rafi hurt her leg while on a run. Poor Rafi, I know. But while Scherzer was trying to calm her down, she apparently bit him. Shows her then wrote quote, fortunately, it wasn't a bad bite. I took one day off from throwing and was able to long toss the next day. This will have no effect on my rehab and this is literally a non story. Yes, max, this is a non story, but there is a story, and that is you and Rafi are both okay. And Rafi is a very good girl. So it seems Scherzer will not go down in history alongside some of the strange injury grades like 8th pitcher Jesus luzardo, who fractured his finger while playing video games in 2021, giants pitcher Matt Cain, who sliced his finger on a knife while trying to make a ham and cheese sandwich in 2014 and cubs slugger Sammy Sosa, who once pulled a ligament in his back, from sneezing. Looked if I hate to admit this, but I can really relate to that last one. Me too. All right, that's it for today from wondery, I'm Tiffany osinski. And I'm Sarah kazel. Thanks for listening. "Did he think that Richardson had said? I don't know. It's just a strange thing to say. Whatever motivated it dismissive and condescending it passed. And I can appreciate how I won't pretend that I would know how that would feel being in shoes so I don't understand the baggage that goes with that. So I guess it is good that out of that moment seemed to appear some candid dialog that was really listened to rather than not. But yeah, it was a weird. It was weird backdrop for a very otherwise cool moment. So yeah. I don't know. But hopefully there are future circumstances where members of the coaching staff can take the field without it being the results of another member of the coaching staff, having been ejected seemingly for not a good reason. So there's that piece of it, but it was a very cool moment. I think it's important to acknowledge those first, even as we look forward to them not being remarkable. You know, it'll be nice when we don't. We don't have to feel as if they need to be called out as something special. Yeah. Let me just look around and are like, here are a bunch of our great coaches. They come from all sorts of places, and they bring a lot to our game, you know? Yeah, all right. Well, those were the watershed moments of the week, those who were all things that I think situated us in this particular time. I don't think any of those things, whatever could have or would have been likely to happen in an earlier era of baseball and, you know, for better or worse, maybe for better and worse. I think they to varying degrees reflected some negative and some positive and some maybe neutral and case by case basis changes in the sport. So we have discussed. There were many happenings involving many different people that took on a variety of tones and we have commented on some of them. Yes. Now, a few final notes, you mentioned Cobb looking good. One of my favorite things about a new season is just like seeing players who seemingly have suddenly reached some new level of performance or they have some new tricks, some new pitch. They ticked up in velocity, they're pitching in a different way, whatever it is. So it could be Cobb, it could be Andrew heaney, who dominated the twins in addition to Kershaw doing so. And he showed off his new sweeper that is all the rage right now. Everyone throws the sweeper or as the Yankees call it the whirly, right, the new sort of side to side slider that all the cool analytically oriented teams are throwing these days. So he looked good and Jesus luzardo looked really good, which I know Ben clemons wrote about for fan graphs. He was throwing a lot harder and he dominated the angels and had 12 strikeouts and 5 innings, so that's exciting because if he is putting it together now, then that marwin staff is scary. So that was exciting too. So I love that. I mean, love seeing, you know, Vlad junior come out and just lay waste to Garrett Cole and the Yankees. After having his fingers split open by a spike. It doesn't happen so much anymore. That used to be very common and very dangerous in the early days of baseball. Yeah, and before antibiotics, so there would be like life threatening infections when guys got spiked and they had like really sharp spikes like dangerous like can't believe that that happened for so long on fields in this sport, but it did anyway. He stayed in the game and what he hit a couple more homers after that. So that's just, you know, it's a cliche to say, go, the ball sounds different enough as bad or whatever, but it does. It does. I personally love this time of year. As long as we all go in, clear ride, the some of the things that we're noticing right now, and I don't mean to say that like all of a sudden like Alex Cobb sinker isn't going to be hard anymore. But as long as we go in, understanding that this is like, you know, what at most 8 games, 6 games, not very many games, and that it could all change tomorrow and that the stars of today could be the scrubs of next week. Like as long as long as we know that and do not invest overly much in early season narratives and think that they will persist forever..

"There are all these bones and kingery is in moniac hanging around here who like, if one of them could click, that would really help quite a lot. And I know people are maybe excited about Mickey moniak, spring. He has a 1285 OPS in spring training, which is fun, although I will note that he also had 1000 plus OPS in spring trading in each of the past two years in fewer at bats, but that's something that has happened. So rookies, I mean, we mentioned start rate and is not veering rookie eligible. I don't remember how Ricky eligibility works. But he's around as well. Hey Matt feeling is ruche eligible. You like either of them or anyone else? Yeah, I mean, I think it having just mentioned bomb like it was interesting that that was a bit of a positional battle, but I think as Meg said, I think it's pretty likely we see get some time at short and yeah, it's exciting that he will be on the roster for opening day and I think that one should be went to watch out for. All right, well that's the Phillies. There's definitely a lot of reasons to watch this team. It should be frustrating at times and fun at other times. So I'm definitely looking forward to this Philly season. It will be unlike any other season that we will see this year, I think. So that brings us to the Marlins. They were also active. There are a lot of active teams in this division this winter. Do you have a favorite or best Marlins move? So looking like big picture long-term, I think it's hard not to pick extending a sandy Alcantara because that's I think a really good step toward blocking down this young rotation core, which is very exciting and fun to watch. But I also really liked picking up Jacob stallings at catcher to talking about how good this rotation can be in, especially a young rotation, having him there to manage his staff, I think, is really exciting. And so that one, I think, might be my favorite. Yeah, that's a good pick. By the way, I should mention that the Phillies have kind of overhauled their player development department. So maybe things will get better there as Nebraska said, we need to be better at getting players over the hump and producing good players from within the system. I agree, Dave, the Philly's definitely need to be better at that. All right, back to the so the strength, I guess the strength is probably what we've always talked about with the steam right the young pitcher. Oh, yeah. Yeah. I mean, it's hard not to, yeah. Yeah. There's a lot of it. It's fun. I mean, there are pictures on the staff who have already been great. Like, I'll counter and Rogers. I mean, people have projected our counter to make even greater strides I've seen according to stat cast. I noticed this because my colleague Zach kram pointed it out the other day. But Alcantara had the worst framing support of any pitcher. He had the most runs last two framing according to baseball savant last season. So with Stalin's hopefully that will not be the case, even though maybe stylings is a more elite blocker than a framer, hopefully that'll get a little bit better for him. But Trevor Rogers has already really good bubble Lopez. Eleazar Hernandez, they're so many guys here. Jesus, I guess the question. I don't know whether we're stepping on any breakout picks or anything here, but that's definitely one of the storylines of the season. How much will you get out of him? Yeah. And obviously 6 do Sanchez who does not seem to be close to returning from his shoulder surgery. So I just, I have no idea what to expect out of him if anything or when, but there are so many good pictures here that they've already traded a little bit from that depth, but they could continue to if they want to supplement the lineup still. Yeah. Yeah, I can't wait to see what this player does group can do with lizard, which isn't to say that like, you know, Oakland's not like bad at that, but I think that there's just the opportunity here for him to take a step forward with the combination of what they're up to and good health and yeah, and if 6 or 6 inches can ever figure out a better fastball shape like look at. Weakness? I appreciate that they try to fix the lineup some Jorge soler. They tried. You can't say they didn't do anything. They did that do enough for dirt cheaters taste seemingly. Yeah, weird. Because what we're saying, this rotation could be so, so, so good. And it's like if you could just do a little more here to give me confidence that you could at least consistently be a average ish offense. I would feel so excited to watch this you and instead you haven't quite done that. I think it admirable job of trying with what seemed like it was not very much to work with. Financially, but yeah. Yeah. Garcia, obviously Garcia is a good player in Jorge soler. I have no idea whether he's like the very not good player or the very good player who he was like within last season. I don't know exactly what to make of him and Stalin's obviously helps you a lot. Defensively at the very least. So it is an improvement, but yeah, they were linked to Castellanos and Marte, who, of course, was a Marlin in the not too distant past. And someone like that, I mean, yeah, it seems like they could use a real Big Bopper, but I believe in aspects of the lineup, I guess. Is there a breakout pick either on the offensive side or just yet another pitcher who could take a step forward for you? I think luzardo is such a good pick because I really do think that, you know, working with this staff, I would be really excited to see what we get from him if he can kind of fit in with the rest of this rotation. But other than that, you know, this steps on a rookie, but I'm talking about this lineup and what we might see. Can you curious to see what Jesus Sanchez does in the outfield? He does have some power that is other always missing from this lineup and I would like to see maybe we can get something from him there. But yeah, breakout wise, you know, I feel like it's hard because pitching staff is already so good other than luzardo that you can't really point to much there. And then the lineup is what we've discussed it is. So is it too late to predict well, I don't know if I'm predicting, but to hope for a jazz Chisholm break out sort of for him to elevate past what he did last year, which wasn't bad, but was not like, you know, he was a below league average header and the defense was only so, so. So maybe we could give some hope to just hold my suppose? Yeah, I think so. He's one of those players who in my head because he is so much fun to watch even if he hasn't like fully put it together that he has already transcended it in my head. Even though you're right, he was not a leak average hitter, even though he felt like one to me. Right. But very much felt like one. And so that's a great point. This close. Yeah, it was close. But not quite there. Yeah, no. His highlights are as exciting as anyone. And I guess it sounds like a cliche, but consistency that's kind of important for him, but also plate discipline and strikeout to walk ratio. He struck out close to 30% of the time last year and walked less than 7% of the time. So that's an issue, but he does have speed and power and it definitely wouldn't surprise me to see him make a step forward. He's only 24, so yeah, I could see it. And I'm with you on Sanchez as well. I could see him having a 30 Homer season. He hit 14 and 251 plate appearances last year. So clearly has a lot of power. So yeah, there's that..

"You know impending free agents on really bad teams usually get traded. We saw that happen all over the league right now with rockets held onto him. Trevor story wasn't particularly happy about that and I think these are going to be an interesting last two months for him. Colorado there are two perennial contenders. Who have no money tampa bay and oakland year. After year after year they contend and they make the playoffs. Most of the time. Oakland goes out early but tampa bay got to the world series last year. Did they at one point. It seemed like nelson cruz was a high value. Money guy to tampa bay did oakland and tampa bay. Did they go for it. I think they did. You know oakland oakland got starling. Marseille a very good center fielder. They traded a big time lefthanded. Pitching prospect hase's luzardo for him But miami's paying all of martinez salary. Which is something that a team like. Oakland needs to do to pick up a guy like him. They also got from the cubs. They got your guys. Yawn gums and josh harrison so they really supplemented their roster In a number of ways. And i think You know they they certainly did What billy bean david. I always do which is may see a window to get to the play offs and contend. They do what they can to try to upgrade that roster billy bean as always said he feels he owes it to the guys in that clubhouse ended the fans that. If there's a chance you gotta go for it. The raise nelson cruz. I thought was a great acquisition You know they they were in talks about much bigger guys when they were talking about bryant. kimbrel it didn't didn't pan out Eric sanders great executive. And he always finds a way and even if they're adding nelson cruz traded diego. 'cause theo they're closer. They traded richhill because they have so much pitching depth. That you know once these guys are no longer necessarily you know either. They're making too much money or they're just depth. If they don't need i mean forty-one-year-old guy richhill the rates. Have you know twelve guys in the minor leagues throw ninety eight. They can bring up and and be just as good so i think both those teams did did their jobs and accomplish what they need to go into that deadline. Wasn't it kevin cash. Who said last year when raw this chapman through it somebody he said we got ten guys and throw ninety and you want to go down. That road wasn't that him. I thought stable guys and inspired very interesting t shirts around the tampa bay area. So the the two teams that sold off that really sold off dramatically or the cubs and the washington nationals. Why do you think they did that. I mean the cubs. I feel the washington nationals selloff more than most other people do but the cubs. They're three best players. Rizzo and buyers and brian. They're all gone. Why did both these teams do. That is assumed they did just to give you wilbad something to talk about on. Pti but You know i think the cubs they had all these guys who are coming up for free agency together You knew that you weren't gonna be able to resign all of them. They tried to talk to each of them about a potential extensions but It just wasn't it just wasn't happening so They held onto kimbrel. He was he was controllable for another year. But once you're trading as and bryant and rizzo and you know that that there's gonna be some sort of a reset here. Kimber was one of the best assets on the market. And they were actually able to get Starting second baseman future. Nick madrigal and a really good young reliever and co two hoyer for them I just think this is the way that that you know. This goes sometimes. And i think for the cubs. I remember walking out of progressive field. I think that's what it was called at the time. it may still be in cleveland. After the cubs won the world series in two thousand sixteen. And i was walking back to my hotel with another writer. And i said so. How many of these do you think we're gonna see the cubs win. And he said. I don't know probably three maybe four and and we just thought this was going to be the beginning of this young unbelievable dynasty the cubs have a ton of money. They can keep. These guys can be like the nineties yankees all over again and you know it's really hard to win and i think the cubs proved that with what we saw in two thousand sixteen. That's a different story. You you know you ensures her headed for free agency. You've got strasberg's physical situation Turner was a year away. And i just think if they were if they were in it they wouldn't have sold but once once they got swept by the orioles. That pretty much was the clearest sign that Selling was the past even though they were only what five. Six games out of first place It just wasn't meant to be this year. I think. Mike rizzo realized. You know for the national tv sellers. That's not micras. Dna is not a guy who likes to pack it in you. I'm sure that was a real long hard decision for him. And for the front office and ownership but You understand where it comes from. I didn't understand turner going at all. and but let's say let's say everybody is now right and it means that they put all the eggs in the basket of juan. Soto if you want soto. Why are you going to sign with team. That's a forty win team. Why are you going to do it. Well here's the thing they got young young prospects and one sodas not a free agent for what two more years three more years. He's got some tiny four twenty okay. So they've got some time to show one so we have a plan here and by the time you're going to be a free agent because you know he's not signing an extension before then By the time he's a free agent. Their hope is that they will have turned themselves back a contending team And be able to sign him and you know when he signs the world's first billion dollar sports contract That that's going to be a for him is whether or not He thinks that this is a team is going to be able to win. He's gotten a taste of ready and You know so. This is setting that plan in motion almost two or three years ahead of time where You don't want to be a good but not great team. Have all the free agents leave and then all of a sudden soto is the only player left on a fifty win team So now they've got a chance to spend a couple of years of this rebuilding process and get themselves back to contending point To convince soto that this is the place you want to spend the next year career. Let me go to fernando. totti's junior. He's on the dl again. I think this is the third time he hasn't stayed on for a long period of time. But this is the third time and it's the third time with that same shoulder. How concerned would you be that. This is an injury that that is going to be persistent and he will never shake it. I'd be concerned if he doesn't have surgery. And you know if you have lingering thing that keeps bothering you and you know there. There are ways surgically to repair these things that i think will hopefully get rid of it. That's not good news for the twenty twenty one padres if he has to have surgery They review the reevaluating him in about a week. It seems like from people i've spoken to..

"For this episode of this segment. I should say and also. I do apologize a little bit about the echo on doing the best i can about that. You guys might not even hear it. But i'm gonna try and see if i can get rid of that. But as you all are aware of starling. March is the last one last person or starting martinez in. Hey zeus rows. Though excuse me luzardo. I do that every time and i don't know why. But the next people that we're gonna be talking about is the brewers acquiring infielder warno escobar from the diamondbacks for infielder outfielder cooper hummel and infielder alberto. Seyran the diamondbacks alone. All-star has fought at least found landing spot because he finally finally get gets to go to a place where he's going to be competing the switch hitter who is split his time between second and third base. This year is hitting to forty six with three hundred on. Base percentage four seventy eight. Slugging percentage with twenty. Two home runs on the year. He's also in the final year of the three year. Twenty one million dollar contract and now. The brewers sent a pair of minor leaguers to arizona in return and twenty-six-year-old hummel and eighteen year old superior. Hummel also switch hitter. Spent time in the twenty twenty one in aaa as the as a primary outfielder but sees action at first base and behind the plate super rainy or super and was signed as a sixteen year old international free agent by the brewers in july two twenty nineteen when he made his professional debut with the dsl. Brewers worry lasts lashed. He hit three seventy eight with a four sixty five. On base percentage and a five fourteen slugging percentage with five doubles and his twelve games and then on july twenty ninth. Cleveland threw in the towel in traded away sesame hernandez to the white sox for left handed pitcher connor plinking or pinkerton hernandez definitely does fill out the chicago's in for a second baseman. After nick madrid suffered a season ending right hand in right ham string tear in june one on one year. Five million dollar contract with six million dollars club option for twenty twenty to the thirty one year old hernandez has lugged a personal best. Eighteen home runs this season albeit with a career. Low batting average of two thirty one blinking though twenty-three-year-old southbound who was selected in the third round of the twenty eighteen. Mlb draft is posted to three forty eight era over sixty two innings at aa this season and he wasn't ranked among chicago's top. Thirty prospects. According to mlb pipeline. But i think with a guy that you're giving that much work and somebody who has a high of an era i think especially given cleveland's like notably of the i would say definitely i would say his note ability that he i don't wanna say he's definitely a guy is definitely a workhorse. And i think the with cleveland pitching through their station. And what they've done developing guys. I think that they have a very very shot at potentially. At potentially making linking to a a decent pitcher for them the rockies acquired on the twenty ninth iraqis acquired randy pitcher ashton gordo from the reds for cash considerations and after acquiring michael gibbons from the rockies for two players that prior wednesday the reds completed another deal to colorado that following thursday that brought some cash back to cincinnati. The red selected godot. Who twenty nine off of waivers from the rockies earlier this season before designating him for assignment on tuesday and then obviously traded him back to colorado on july twenty ninth. The blue jays acquired a left handed relief pitcher brad hand from nationals for catcher riley adams now brad head has definitely been shaky lately blowed. He actually has blown his last blowing. Three saves walking six batters and allowing seven earned runs on four and two-thirds innings from july eighteenth through twenty six but he did retire three of the four batters. He faced this. Past tuesday against the phillies. He's a three time all start and he joins a blue jays bullpen. That has absolutely been crushed by injuries. With kirby yates who leeann. Mary weather david phelps. Aj coal carl edwards junior tyler chat would anthony castro all currently on the i l. The thirty year old signed a one year. Ten and a half million dollar deal with the nats in the off season and adam whose twenty five meters. Mlb debut earlier this year and he's gone three for twenty eight twelve caves before being sent back aaa where he has an eight. Excuse me eight fifty eight opie and thirty five games. He's played this year and be pipeline ranked him seventeenth on the list of toronto's top thirty prospects and then also on july twenty ninth. The yankees started making some moves to they acquire joey gallo and left handed pitcher jolie rodriguez and cast in and cash from the rangers. Four second baseman ezekiel doron shortstop. Josh smith and infielder outfielder trevor. However as well as right handed pitcher glen auto the yankees definitely definitely needed to bolster their underperforming line. Ah but it's it's it's i don't know if gallo is the guy that they really were sure searching for i think that he's he's definitely a a going to be a beast hitting into that redfield into that short porch in right field any stadium but like i mean it's gonna be fun and and you also have a former teammate. In rough netto door leads. His new team in home runs with twenty five this year. Rbi's with fifty five and runs scored with fifty seven and is tops in all of baseball was seventy four walks through july. Eighteenth gallows outfield defense. Particularly his arm. Strength has been really impressive. And he's already racked up nine assists. This season rodriguez who has thirty strikeouts. In twenty seven two third innings in two thousand twenty one will also be a welcome left-handed left hand armed joining a write heavy pitching staff in new york and the rangers. Massive hall includes a number of the yankees top thirty prospects as ranked by eno be pipeline before the start of the minor league season the twenty three year old smith number fourteen the twenty two year old durant whose number fifteen the yankees top prospect number twenty two however who is excuse me the twenty two year old however who happens to be number twenty three on the list as well as the twenty five year old otto who's number twenty eighth on the list. All of them are ranked which is amazing in the rangers. Absolutely got some guys.

"After that they had traded for traded for those two features went out and got michael gibbons from the rockies and he's a thirty one year old having an amazing season but they did have to give up the reds. I mean the case williams Right handed pitcher and no davis the rockies got a couple of really good pitching prospects like. I'm going to be honest with you. The nineteen year old right hander case williams is ranked twentieth and as the reds in the reds prospect rankings. And the twenty four year old right. Handed noah davis was ranked number twenty six across the number twenty six prospect. It's it's a massive massive deal and then the on also on the twenty eighth of the mariners went out and got tyler anderson from the pirates for carter bins and joaquin to hate carbons a catcher and joaquin is a right handed pitcher. The astros also went out in acquire of astros and out acquired yemi garcia from the marlins for a rent hated. Austin prut and brian. Date is excuse me brian delacruz from the astros at like that is a big big big deal and we still have a lot of trades to go over so what. I think we're gonna do right here. Is i'm gonna keep talking a little bit more in depth as to everybody that we've we've really talked about so far and then next segment we're gonna keep talking about these amazing trades and so the astros ended up going out and making their second trade for a A reliever in as many days on july twenty eight. They grabbed garcia from miami. After landing kindle graven from the mariners. The thirty year old garcia has fifteen saves any three forty seven in thirty nine relief appearances. This season pruitt was designated for assignment to make room for the acquisition of rafael montero. And now is heading to miami daily crews a twenty four year old out minor league outfielder is batting three twenty four twelve home runs and eighty opie s in sixty six games at aaa this season and then the last one will probably be talking about two or in this segment so the probably the biggest trade i would say on july twenty eighth. Is the oakland athletics. Going out and acquiring starling marseille from the marlins for left handed relief pitcher. Hey zeus luzardo. Oakland miami hooked up for a very rare one trade that features intrigue on both sides. Martin was definitely one of the most sought after position players this year on the trademark entering wednesday with career. High eight fifty nine seven home runs and twenty two steals. He's been a solid defender with five outs. Above average recorded centerfield personality cast and more will debut for the as debuted for the as this past thursday for four anaheim and with oakland hoping to really boost the middle of their lineup. This is a massive massive pickup and the marlins covered the majority of their roughly four point. Six million dollars left on martin salary this season but netted a high upside arm in lazardo. Luzardo is was the as top rank prospect as recently as the season. Like it's pretty. It's pretty well. But don't go anywhere guys because we still have the rest of july twenty eighth july twenty ninth and july thirtieth of the trade deadline on telling you this was in the craziest trade deadline that i've ever seen and i think maybe even ever but we'll talk about more of that in next segment. "I like that gamble. For the marlins. But i also would recognize. This is not a deal that small market teams make unless they have major concerns. Yes yes it's a chair point. I will also say that despite the floors but with the as no that we might not. He's lazardo is still a better acidy. Greater asset than a potential compensation they would receive for marseille and actually do sort of like the strategy like the philosophy. We saw with the rangers as they decided to go. Four volume decided to go for four prospects. None of breaking the top ten of the system. This is just taking a shot at a guy in the talent like you said. Even if he winds bussing in miami he was a shot worth taking based upon the track record. Especially when you're giving away two years in a player a two months of a player control. I'm betting on luzardo flipping around with the marlins. Unless there's something medically upto but if if if if the issue is just inch ability disagreements with the organization plus the etc etc. My the in warno escobar going to the milwaukee brewers. I walked away from seeing bruins on sunday. Baseball the other day thinking. You know what this is. A team with the right moves or the deadline. That could win the world series. When did you think of this trait. I think craig counsel is as good chess player as there is in baseball and escobar's nearly another chest. We pigs for his lineup like. I think it's fairly obvious team can really really pitch. But they're offense still has a long way to go. It would be among the worst. Offense is at least in recent years of teams that reached the world series. Should they be lucky enough to do so. And he's a switch hitter. Plays multiple positions even fit in nicely there and obviously there's not a long term commitment. I am all in a as i said. many times. On the brewers in the fact that right now christian yelich is out and when he's been in really not hitting the way that you know he did you know in the in the pre in two thousand eighteen twenty nineteen when he was the best hitter in the national league we have to add. They just needed to add something the lineup. I wouldn't be surprised if they did one more small thing. Escobar's league average hitter switch hitter. That can play most positions in the field. He is a council options. And there's really no manager in baseball. Who's better at using those options in craig counsel so i give them i give them a bravo for that. You mentioned before you go. You mentioned the the pitching staff and you doug addict rate number on that. It's actually your number buster. I'll give you the credit again at your stat called crush bullshit. does is measures. You met of total bases that you either generate persuading or in a pitcher enforce allow i ling and as i was perusing the top leaderboard yesterday it struck me that brandon woodruff freddie peralta and corbin bruins ranked first second and third respectively among all qualified pitchers in baseball by at least one standard. Measure the bruce. Dennis three-storey pitchers in baseball in history says these guys are as good as any rotation ever earliest the top of any rotation ever rate. Now all three of those guys Owning erase plus of one eighty better in other words. All three pitchers have been eighty percent better than the league average or better. There's never been a team in baseball history. Who has three pitchers that can say that. If i were to put money on one team right now the commander the national league it would be those guys. I'm confident they're gonna win their division. When you combine those threes orders with hater and williams on the back and i think will be slightly better lineup. The last couple months of the season. I think those guys are a rocket to the moon buster. You know it's funny For years anytime the topic of betting would come up because of the you know the history baseball has with bedding is almost run the other direction about the common But now that it feels like it's a it absolutely is all the you know it's all fair in. It's all out there. If i were someone who bet on baseball. I think i would bet on the brewers to win the world series. So you were just there. You were just there over the weekend. What were your impressions of watching them. Play the potential world matchup for some. What were you oppression. Yeah and by the way their odds of winning the world series as of today eleven to one ruling insider dot com. I think pitching his phenomenal and their defense is phenomenal. And they are clearly limited offensive team but with pitching deck rate. You could see them. Winning reminded me of You know the team that. I grew up watching the dodgers in one thousand nine hundred eight dodgers that orel hershiser in some other great pitchers with a fairly mediocre offense especially when kirk gibson when out. Drain the postseason yet. They found a way to win. And i would be proven wrong. I could be proven wrong. But given this run-scoring environment this year. I teams like the brewers are going to be the ones that are the last one standing in the playoffs. The house depressed offenses even within the absence of this sticky substances the brewers and teams like it is to be the team's i'd be betting on to make a deep so i'm very curious to see which teams add those arms dominant arms power arms whether it is starters relievers today or tomorrow the deadline because those decisions might very well when determining who wins each of these leagues. Exactly all right hembo. Thanks for doing this little boy. Hembo raynham.

"Was pretty happy when he took more colors, I don't know what I would have done if he asked luzardo. I really felt lazard was going to be pretty good. And that was definitely not the case. At least this season. Like, there's still a lot of time for him to turn around. And with various, it's taken forever for him to become what he's become this season. So it might just take lizardo a little bit of time, but yeah, he was Wheeler was definitely very available, I wasn't just going to give him away because he had a good price, but he was there. The context with that. I'm not even critical that he chose mccullers because I don't know at that point who I would have chosen if those were my options. I don't know that I had a really high I mean, it's easy to say, you know, two months in the season, everyone wants to be like, oh, you should have done this. I don't know who I would have picked. Yeah. So I'm not critical that he chose him. It just could have turned out a lot better for him if he chose someone else. Yes. Unless you chose lizardo. That would have been preferable. I would definitely take what color season over lizardo at this point. You know, and I think the thing is like with Zach Wheeler, he's always underperformed his expected strikeout total based on his fastball velocity and he's always struggled with a putaway pitch. Like he gets an O two counts and into a second strike, a lot, or he hasn't his career. And he just, you know, it ends up being a ground at it. It ends up being a flyout. So like his ability to not pitch to contact in that situation has really benefited him. And a variety of ways to season which has been really nice for my team. So hooray. Let's go to gour. I just want to kind of envy his young rotation because I really like what he's done there. I don't really understand why he hasn't fielded like an offensive team throughout the season. Like there's some guys he could probably get rid of. I don't really know that I see

"Come on. That's embarrassing. That's humiliating. If the smartest guy in baseball quote unquote doesn't know the rules of baseball more than a month into the gig, and more than that, because it's not like he got the job. April 1st. That means he's definitely lost the speed on his fastball and This hiring is stupid. Whereas I couldn't believe that's what I saw. This is it. Of all the managers. It's LaRussa who used to basically be the bell a check of baseball. He knew every rule in every loophole is gonna try toe. Expanded for his own use. He doesn't know the rules. This is humiliating. When I saw this, I didn't even click on the rule. First to read the rule first, this simple headline. Maybe hold my stomach and crack up because this is so Tony LaRussa. If you would have asked us Hey, which manager Baseball you think is not going to understand any new rules we would have said it's Tony LaRussa. And it actually happened now. Full disclosure. I personally didn't realize that you could substitute in and out of the picture run. I don't realize that was part of it. But again, I'm not a manager of a major league baseball team. And you would think Tony of a Russo who's been around baseball's whole life. And this is the new stuff would have, you know, studied the new stuff and been ready to go is a manager. How do you not? Your job is strategy. How do you not know the strategy behind the most important part of the game extra innings? When you're trying to win these games? It's ridiculous. It's embarrassing for the White Sox. And by the way, if you're LaRussa, you gotta make up something on the fly. You can't admit you don't know the rule, either. No, that's embarrassing. No, it's like the injury the other day of the guy that introduced thumb Luzardo playing video games you've got alive. If you injured your pinky or your thumb and you're out playing video games. You can't admit it. And if you're Tony LaRussa, and you didn't know the rule, you can't admit it. Because now what is your clubhouse? Think? What is your locker room thing? What do your players that roster Think? Oh, yeah. 76 Year old skit doesn't know the rules of the game were toast. Oh, terrible, absolutely terrible, embarrassing and it's LaRussa of all people. Here is Mike on the Aaron Rodgers Stuff D A. I really don't like this idea of the team's superstar complaining and moaning. They're not consulted on trades where the teams make up. Your player, one of 50 whatever. Unless it's in your contract that you should to be that you're to be consulted. Stay out of it. This is all about the Brady thing. I just think that Quarterbacks forever never felt as though they had a hand in assembling a roster. And now because Brady does in Tampa Bay, everybody else wants it. It has empowered. Maybe falsely Russell Wilson, Carson Wentz to Shawn Watson. And now Aaron Rodgers. Now Watson just wants out. Maybe doesn't want more say in the personnel of the roster, but he wants more say in the front office. That's why he wanted.

"Of is analogy that out on a shot back. Grocery store and plummets, Not the lyrics. All right. We have your chance of those tickets coming up in just a little bit. I would like to just tell the sports talk listeners. This is not a bit either. Oh, Mike. Hey, let's play Let's play a song and had just randomly make up names. That is true. I'm this this summer tour. I'm limited. I'm limited with my knowledge of these. Fine if it was the Beatles. If it was James Taylor it was stealing. Then I'd knock your You know what the dirt but not with these. These jokers. Hoover stand who who was sink It was, uh, a Baltimore Orioles pitcher just threw a no hitter. Do you care about that? That's a perfect game, though, isn't it? Don't say the opponent, though. Ah, yeah. Oh, yes, it is. Brandon's Seattle Mariners was a Jim Palmer for the Orioles. No, no, it's John means perfect game right now. It was a guy reached on an air. So count, no perfect game and non perfect game. No, that's all the more 18 to nothing. Sunday. Mariners got no note again that that team a lot then no, not true. Looking like three years to find six runs, eight hits and no errors for the Mariners. No runs. No hits, no errors That should count is a perfect game. Well, I gotta go. I got on base. It's not well, but yeah, but he's the picture. If you see if you walk a guy, I'm over your no hitter to begin with. You could throw a no hitter and, you know, walk three or four dudes. I'm like you know where it doesn't. There's not an error on the box score there. What? What is going on? Struck out and he dropped ball catcher didn't get it. Divert. Oh, no. Uh, that reminds me here. You guys want to hear a moment of Jason Dick baseball excellence from his bus boy story had been ninth grade playing junior varsity baseball at round Rock High school on my friend. What was your Stephen something? Steven Johnson. Why? You gotta bring Steve Johnson and well, Steven Johnson's has gotta be a record. I'm almost positive. Because he struck out 22 batters in a high school game. 22 batter stop the math for a second seven inning game. Okay? Oh 22 batters Only 21 out's okay. How can you stretch? How do you strike out? 22 batters? The guy got no basis like you got the ball. You got a lackluster catcher back there. You dropped the ball chasing Buster Boy. Dick is not on me. You're like, Hey, let's break a record states that I'm gonna drop the third strike on this guy throws heat. He throws in an insane, like just dives into the dirt slider. And so yeah, these guys, they're just swinging and missing involved that are uncatchable and Yeah, there's some of them advanced made it to first because the other catcher's got throw anything. Where whatever, and I don't know. I guess I didn't complete the play enough times. And so you have my guy struck out 22 batters in a seven inning game. You're welcome, Stephen. Yeah. I mean, is there for you? You did that on purpose just so we could get 22 case? Yeah, let's do it. So, what happened to him if I didn't go on to greatness? Um, I don't know. We were there. The competition levels were all over the place, and we might have been playing some guys who had no business being on the field. With the incredible round rock dragons When it came to baseball, we're gonna baseball, all right. They were getting baseball. I was also along for the ride, Bucket Boy Round Rock Express opening day home openers tomorrow. You're gonna be there, right? Peter taking on that team from Oklahoma. Uh, seven. Oh, five. First pitch tomorrow. Dell Diamond. I'll be out there for 32 6 30 tailgating and tasked to here's a fun baseball story for you. Jesus Luzardo. You guys know about this Calzado? Yeah, hey, was supposed to pitch for the Oakland A's yesterday but was unavailable after he broke his pinky finger. Playing a video game, huh? Tell me that he got so mad. He was like banging the control like I used to do in elementary. She insists that he did not do it in anger or frustration. Simply bad luck. He doesn't really fully explain, it says here on a video conference call, Luzardo demonstrated how his hand came out to his side and hit the top of a table. What he called a reaction to something that happened in the game did not share what game he's playing. Excuse me, but he says it was not out of anger or frustration. Was it like I mean, I could see if you're playing like one of those interactive we games like if you're playing tennis or bowling or something like that, But I still have my old school nes controller. I only have one. I still have some games. I don't know. I think my mom sold the actual box which still kills me to this day. But on it One whole side of it like this whole side just has like chunk marks in it because like when I would die about to beat the game with one guy, you hit it like a bank. Oh, let's see here you feel Hey, Seuss's pain, apologized to the team, says, quote on the 23 year old kid. I make mistakes. I feel like a lot of people don't realize that we are people as well. We make mistakes, the same mistakes that fans make same mistakes that people Work normal jobs. Make no two people who aren't normal jobs. Don't miss you work because of a video game injury. What kind of a guy would get her about? Come on, broke the glass on the table. Once it was his pinky was hand still sent me to school the next day. She don't need your pinky finger to picture catch. Back in my day You go out there and say Don't be a what did you do? Rub some dirt on it and climate spit rub, sir. Just get out there, man. Sports talk with your chance at Summerland. "What Chris Davis could do when he's on, you know, and if that comes back, it's gonna be hard to see him hit 40 home runs for another team, and I think there's you know, certainly a possibility that that's what is gonna happen because You know, there doesn't seem to be any real reason that he had the fall off that he had beyond just something mechanical. He hadn't quite gotten worked out 100% yet as of last year, So you know, if he makes that come back, it will be a little bit hard to swallow on the flip side. Where he played and the fact that he was a right handed hitter, you know, was somewhat redundant with what they had already in the roster, and so if you were going to move somebody, he's somebody that you could replace with the guys you had internally Plus. Now you bring in a Morland. You know who gives them that power but from the left side So you know, from a baseball perspective, that's that's fairly easy to replace in terms of what their personnel was already set up as an Andrews even though he's not the Elvis Andrews, probably that he was five years ago is still an upgrade over what they would have had internally at shortstop. At this point, you know, within a gallon being a year so away from being able to be, you know, Major league ready, and Andrews is a guy who's gonna handle the defense. Well, especially with Chapman, able to, you know, bring in a little bit of rain. She's got the big arm. He could be the lead off hitter and give him a little bit of speed up at the top of that order, And he's also a very infectious personality, You know, really teammates just absolutely love him fans and loved them. So you know, I think he's somebody who, if you're going to take away a guy who was is important to that clubhouse is Chris Davis was bringing someone like Andrew's back in that deal was important because you're not kind of Saying that you're giving up that kind of presence in your clubhouse here, replacing it with a different kind, But he's still you know, a very well respected and sort of, you know, brings that kind of gravitas to AH Big League clubhouse that Davis does is well, it's all good point. And it's funny. If you look at the team. Now they've become AH War veteran presence team right with mentioning Elvis Andrus. A lot of these guys have been around now for a few years and Have had playoff experience and had some success in the playoffs. So all good stuff The one element of the team that I think is still sort of a question. Mark is his pitching staff. Right? AJ punk is supposed to be the big number one prospect and thean Juries last year. Sort of, I think, Derail some of that a little bit and 2020 think we don't just like to call it a wash. Sort of wiping away and not really remember it. But what is 2021 getting mean for AJ Park? And how is he heading into camp here in 2021? Yeah, I mean, I think until he ramps up to 100% game effort, we won't know because last year when things fell apart for him, it was because he got to that point where all of a sudden it was supposed to be in game and that's when the you know the shoulder really started barking on him, So he had a bullpen session yesterday, Melvin said that he looked really good, free and easy. Wasn't holding anything back or babying the shoulder. He spent all off season working with Jesus Luzardo down in Florida at Eric Kress is sports performance Jim or trainer Center. Whatever you wanna call it, and you know, Chris. He's got some of the best pitchers in baseball, You know, they're kind of peak performance, and so you know, if his body's and shape the amount of innings he's going to be able to throw on what role he's going to be in, you know, sort of you think remains to be seen. If he's healthy and in shape to give them even 60 innings. Those they're going to be 60 pretty high value innings. I think you know, it could be. One of those things were now that they have all this veteran presence in these extra bullpen guys. That they've just signed. They could start him. Maybe even in the minor leagues pitching. Maybe once a week is building up slowly and then towards the end of the season, when things really start to pick up. Maybe he has enough innings to kind of come in and help him get into a postseason And maybe even be a guy like a Julio areas was last year for the Dodgers and and kind of come out of nowhere and be 34 innings and key games throughout postseason and performances, So we'll see. I mean, he's got that kind of talent to be. That sort of X factor for them, But now they're not counting on him. And I think that's something that it's important when you're coming into a season like this one. Yeah, look like their roster was gonna look much differently. Two weeks ago, all of us said they look like they can still like, really be competitive in the ale West. So, Melissa, Thanks so much.
