"Without the pain or with a manageable level of pain. I know what you think about this. Initial focus points. Yes sure makes sense as as just really again just really eager to you know we we play again next week You know we don't play all the time. But if i could get out there next week i'd really want to and i i don't know if there are things that could really you know kind of do in the next few days. That would just get me well again but Again just really happy to hear your ideas and normal to to want to get back edge lead to something you enjoy doing. Absolutely and and eric aena a discussion around how we can facilitate that. I'm hearing you wanted to in the long term. You want to in the short term what you wanna sustain it in a long term and hopefully hearing that we can work together the best way to do that to keep you active in the long term. I would yeah explore the ideas diagnosis as a point as well and as a potential focus point so whether we whether we need to be able to move forward or not an expo together can i mean we just jumping here nine just because i guess the audience may be entrusted to know what was going on for both of these gernot conversation and i guess the question is height. Beneficial conversation was for the patient. So can just maybe it started with just because was it like for you. Yeah no i No it was good. I came in wanting some some answers. and i also understand that you know people need to get to know me and understand what happened and understand the story before we get there lutts. I found it to be A really easy environment to share. I felt like matty really Was trying hard to to listen and understand how important You know being active is to me and shelter took time to really try to understand my history while on her efforts to.

"This wild work my way through but what i learned was that wasn't enough so i needed to do the next thing and the next thing and so i think for people with particular recovery with addiction. It's often a step. It's a it's a process of like all right. Well i thought i would try this and well. It didn't seem to work so now. I'll do the next thing and eventually you do you find the level that works for you. Some people need what i needed. You know forty five days in impatient treatment in six month halfway house other people. Just you know. Pick up a book and that's enough right at some people go. I mean there's all places in between that but the process is almost always very rarely. I think ever to have i seen somebody show up like this is my very first day meeting. I've never done anything else about this. And now i stayed sober permanently. I mean that's pretty rare. It happens but it's extraordinarily rare. Most people's journeys are a lot more Fractured than that. And so. I think you know if anybody's listening to the thing i would give is yet. Keep coming back you know keep trying keep there is a way out. You may have to keep looking for it and the more kindness. You can give yourself as you go through that because that self judgment shuts down our ability to learn. We know this scientifically we know that when we flood the limbic parts of our brain the emotional parts of our brain that that are learning centers. Our frontal cortex the hippocampus. All those things they get less energy they get less attention so we don't learn and so what happens with the shame. Spiral is that we judge ourselves mercilessly. And what that does is it. Just fires up that emotional limbic part of our brain and we can't learn so what i do with. People really work a lot on his. How do we turn that down. How do we stop Shooting the second arrow. You know. it's a buddhist parable of second era was basically feeling bad about feeling bad you know. How do we interrupt that process anywhere along the way so that we can move into. Let's just look really clearly like what what works. What doesn't what am i learning. I okay. I slipped up again okay. Great what what did you learn what happened. What can we do differently next. Time like lutts because i think of whether it's an addiction problem or somebody who can't figure out how to exercise every day i always think of this stuff is like a puzzle and we've got to get the right pole. All the right. Levers get the right pieces to the puzzle clicks together but it feels to me. I know when we're talking about somebody's life to say it's a puzzle. I don't wanna make it sound flippant. But i but i mean it in the sense. That puzzles are solvable. Uh if you keep you know if you keep trying to solve a puzzle you will eventually solve it. If it's if it's kind of puzzle. I'm thinking of anyway and i found that that's the way it is with most people and whatever they're going through in life i love that i really relate to that because you know we don't share the same addiction story but i i know what it is to say. Oh i'm gonna make this change in my life. And then i don't do it perfectly and then i absolutely get stuck in that. Shame spiral and and that's one of the things..

"I have seen it here in. San francisco is some of these. You know these spaces that can be predominantly white suspender. Gay men can be some of the most like racist and misogynist. And that's not what we're about. I think we need to go back to the roots of who we were where it was. This lake multicultural gender. Just fuck it up. Queer lutts you know Take down totally face. Well i think something else. That's really important when you talk about you know race versus sexuality or gender is that everyone has different levels of of privileged right. You may be You may be white but you're queer so that's a different level of privilege right or you may be a person of color and you're straight so that's a different level of privilege you know. You may be a person of color but you are not disabled. So there's there's everyone has a different level. And i feel like sometimes it's kind of like you get like either or about things and i think a lot of again like you said says white gay men are like oppressed. Because i'm gay and it's like but you've stopped. Acknowledge the fact that you're white technolog- factor. You're a man. He's acknowledge the fact that you like or have money or whatever is going on you know like those are all still really real like check your privilege at least in the coach all of us all of it everybody. Yeah that'd be aware you know there was someone who said it. I won't say their name. But i take a look at the mirror and make that chain. Okay just can't. It's it's a weird space lift anyways. Oh man i was going to talk about the r kelly trial also ratify with a weird notes. No what are we goes back to show evolving with the times and sometimes like there's something that's in our face it's like that seems weird but we don't have the words or language to call it out completely but actually really quick one more thing about that about language. Is you know Women doing drugs new concept when when we started and you mentioned tranny shack. But i was gonna say that like you know. That is one thing that i know about that time. Is that people like people trixie car. These are women that have been in the drug scene for for years not to date them now that they're old but they're distinguished they've been around and so there's a long legacy of that there's a long legacy of of of women alongside drag performers or you know especially when you talk again. Not just about repulse drag race and like that very specific type of drug or female allusion drag but the ball scene and there's so much representation and when yeah language is not always clear. We don't know how every person identified in the sixties and seventies and eighties. Wasn't the language for it. You know was poly murray word. There wasn't the terms that we have now for them to classify themselves..

Your answer is going to be. Because i can tell you from talking to hundreds of podcasters probably thousands of podcasters at this point one of the answers. I often get to this question is. How has your podcast going his well. I'm in research mode. Oh it's like it's a cringe-worthy answer for me even if it's well intentioned even if it's the truth even if you're like no literally i've been researching this and i'm starting tomorrow. I still have this visceral reaction when someone tells me that they are in research mode. So we're going to dive into it today. I'm i'm basically you're in a therapy session with me now. Because i'm going to get some things off my chest about how i feel with. All of these podcasters stuck in research mode. So let's get right to it. The pro version might have a couple of terabytes or you know whatever in it you know as far as memories. well yeah. He got transferred over wifi because they're not giving us earth under both. Am i foolishly. Think that this quote filters let me live there live and delusion for thirty nato. Let me believe that. I will not live long enough to see a portland phone iphone as sad as that might be that i die money too. I think there's a high probability that that it that it may be portland but it doesn't mean that it will not have those kind of contacts that we see inside the the ipad that could potentially pants sport forty gigabits as like way more convenient than uscc. Thank god thank you for giving us pogo pins. Instead of a usb seaport there's always a google pixel six with the calix on andy For you our i'll leave. I'll drive over that cliff in that convertible with ya. I wanna dog for editing way There's something satisfying by the way about moving to a cabinet in the woods and being the good. I'm just saying if you do a patent encumbered lennox. it's fun. Oh god so they do. Also gherman says a new filters like sister. That improves the looking colors of photos reading between the lines. Maybe a let system of some kind or what. What do you think that is. Maybe they'll bring gotham back now that i'm sorry go ahead. You know being able to apply lots would be amazing. Yeah kind of built in it. Opens up a whole new set of things that are In lutts for people who were listening are basically what they're look up tables and so they basically just say transfer. It's like a curve that you'd see in photoshop but imagine that in three d. and so it's just moving the color information In the color inside of if you think of color as a cube it's moving inside of that space So that you can do. Very delicate transforms And they come in different numbers of points the resolution but anyways how a lot of transform a lot of video and it's it's not to say that you would want. I know you would but i would want to do this. Three d. manipulation. But that if they used a standard like that for filtering people like alex could create lots that he could then down and there are absent. Lex now that you can do lots with film mc pro and and some of that stuff is already there. It's not like it doesn't exist but having it really easy and part of the phone and just something like oh. I can load a lot you know in to it. There's a lot of lots out there that that would be people really enjoying. Yeah so you get to see what it looks like when you shoot it. Am i crazy to read between the lines on the new filters like system and make. Maybe that's lots that's what a lot was. Might be how you describe it. Yeah exactly it's not. It's not real so it could be anything. We want it to be exactly what we can. Actually we think that it's actually a two hundred point. Let that doesn't it really. It would be amazing. It's a beautiful filters like system with with ari book and colors photos the look. It just sounds it sounds sounding very much like let's get a press person who who doesn't know what that is right. I bet margaret does does. But he's not gonna maybe he's not going to put that in bloomberg i dunno does he does he does. He really does Beyond the camera enhancements. Iphones will get he says relatively modest upgrades because of the. You know big redesign This year in the five g. wireless networking and so forth Same fire modem. I'm looking forward to that. Will we get a better modem. Not not qualcomm is still be qualcomm. It except last week the x sixty five Expertise the sixty which is samsung's five. Nanometer process was not quite so power hungry. Good so better battery life. Same five point four inch and six point one inch regular size is six point seven pro same design. It would be what apple. Yeah yeah it could still be. It'll be at twelve athlete but there are some marketing decision. It if if they want a goose sales full number if they wanna lower expectations are an s but if you like the small version of the phone that's apparently the last year they're gonna make at least for a while they're gonna make a small tiny mini. Iphones if you want that get it now. And then ride that into the sunset like john. Malts the pro res- feature he writes would fall last year's edition of pro raw Here's more the filters and other feature will let users better control the look of colors and highlights in their pictures users will be able to choose from several styles to apply to their photos including for one for showing colors either a warmer or cooler temperature while keeping whites neutral. Another option will add a more dramatic look with deeper shadows and more contrast and the companies planning a more balanced style for showing shadows and true-to-life colors with a brighter affair appearance it will differ from standard filters by precisely pine changes to objects and people across the photos using ai rather than a single filter across the entire picture. That isn't much but that's something interesting. Yeah that's content aware that feels separating lighting effects for foreground and background big. Yeah well and that's and that's using potentially using the lighter to know what objects and what aren't so can use ai but in some of the phones it'll actually know these are subjects for this and these aren't you know so it's it's really interesting at the very bottom of the article. He says the company is also working on revamped macbook pros with in-house chips likely to be dubbed m. One x redesigned ipad mini an entry level ipad geared. Students is also preparing new apple watches and entry level air pods. Obviously i i. We're not obviously. But i doubt they denounce all of that next month. The easy to float into knife announcement and then it just depends if they're ready because they want to sell them for the school season if they can if they're not earlier sped over. Yeah but apple's people like a lot of the stuff becomes practical. It's like apples is ready to ship. Yes what's the next event. Okay do it. It's like a much more complicated than that..

"Not the paper ballots but balloting but just going to give you the public cast what records which are the digital patterns that the voting system finds can all be given to the public and that should happen the certifications so that campaigns can't look themselves and see. Hey you know we think. This interpretation srt online or to correct that one. Campus board can do that before they certify the election. then we'll have basically crowd sourced auditing taking place and that's what we'd like to see so then official audit taking place with paper in the county as required risk limiting audit minimum amount of paper. But enough to be sure that heavy correct and then had citizens be able to add to that and say hey we found these discrepancies so instead of sending the ballad images to clear ballot. We can just put them online and let people like me. Look for the problem. Once and people like ray. Lutts in san diego california. Who has a thing called audit engine. He can take dominion valid images and create a tabulation and castle records and compare them to what the dominion original was so we have real opportunities for building confidence based on evidence evidence based election and that colorado s could be the first state to get there. And we're we're looking like we're on the way right now. So that's where i think. That's what's behind a real gold standard. But we don't have it yet. We do not have that yet. We have definitely got obstruction of access to election records in colorado. And we have that depends on the county but we have so many different approaches to hiding the information being worried about it. And then we've got the post trump effect where we're clamping down. And that's what's happening at the secretary of state's office and at the legislature with recent cleanup bill. That actually eliminated the challenge opportunity for citizens to challenge eligibility based on signature. Where signature is the only way we can detect eligibility problems right now all the way to decisions based on a signature verification that takes place and that's another topic but that's where we need an eligibility audit to take place and the clerks association has started to talk about it. Well i think like you said we are not necessarily gold standard. We may be that silver standard right and hopefully we can get to that evidence based area where you that's where the gold standard really would be. That's where the gold lies. Yes when the voters any skeptic can get access to the evidence and say yup. I can see why that's the outcome. That's what we want. Get to we used to have more steps to do. We're working on that. So thank you again for being here this time. Thank you for listening again. We know this is kind of a difficult subject in some people are like. Why are you even interested. But it is very important for the league of women voters to educate you on these issues and this is again one of those just from an informative perspective why we're doing that third audit. Hopefully we're trying to improve right colorado's trying to always improve. We'll get to that evidence based election someday but we will

"She told her friend after the argument that she would find her own way home. A faded gray vehicle of some sort had followed them. Or was behind them and investigators said that Johnson either. Voluntarily got into the vehicle or was forced inside by driver. The girlfriend continued and somehow was able to drive home on that flat tire. But. That was the last time that Johnson was seen alive. Now after investigation. A suspect was developed. Daniel Wilson was taken into custody Anna DNA collection was completed with a search warrant. Akron police submitted the sample with a DNA sample collected from the victim from the autopsy. Now this was the beginning of the wait for lab results in this particular homicide. DNA test on suspects at that time could typically. Could typically take up to a year to get the results back? And I can attest to that as having worked in the early nineties in sexual assault investigations. Most of the state labs including state on North Carolina would not take a DNA test unless you had both suspect and victim to compare to. The main reason for that. I'm sure was because the. Developing database of DNA suspects the DNA of suspects hadn't really been done yet. Now results the DNA. Comparison tests were the key to whether Akron detectives. Mr Daniel Wilson with killing. AKRONS chief of detectives told the newspapers in Nineteen ninety-one that investigators. Won't have any good suspects in the killing. If. The DNA test does not link Wilson to the case. To quote? A major in detective unit our case win rise or false with this DNA test. Wilson is our only good suspect. If it is not him, we are back to square one. Now, what brought their attention to? Wilson was the fact that the crime was similar to a killing that Wilson was accused of committing previously. Wilson had been accused of murdering a woman. There's body was found in her burning car. Wilson at the age of twenty, one was arrested by the police in Ohio on May nine for the killing of a Carol Lutts. Twenty four years old, he was charged with aggravated murder and that investigation. In an attempt to link Wilson to Johnson's death. While he awaited trial for the killing of Lutts, semen was taken from Johnson's body during the autopsy was compared with a blood sample taken from Wilson to see whether the DNA genetic material matched. Now this request in nineteen, ninety one was just one over. Thousand, requests, for DNA test to be done in over a thousand rooms, such request police agencies in the United States with the FBI scientific analysis section in Washington DC. Now at that time because of the test complexity. And the fact that only ten analysts were trained and certified. To, testify in court to DNA comparisons, it can take up to six months before the F., B. I. Sends a final report to local police on on this was according to the FBI in a media interview at the time. Let's was found in the trunk of her burning car. Wilson admitted killing her. But. Did Deny any involvement in any other deaths including Mrs. Johnson Miss Johnson's death. Wilson's attorney denied that the Stan statements made by his client were actually confessions in the Lutts homocide, but simply a misunderstanding between the investigators and his client..

"Save welcome to mentally oils. Thank you thank you for having me event. Thanks for coming on. So you're wanted with the Samaritans held on if you've been working with them actually not long about two years. I started doing it when I start work and I'd worked in a very busy high pressure job. That really left no room for anything else and when I stopped doing it uh suddenly thought I really would like to investigate Samaritans And it was thought that just came out of a clear. Blue skied at know. Why but it did I discovered that was a branch quite near me and I went to the information evening. I was really impressed with what I saw. And Went straight into the training and at all it all the way through. I was thinking if I feel this is quite right. You know just stop. It's fine but I never once felt it wasn't quite right and I've never felt wasn't right since And I look forward to shifts at Shelly. I find them really interesting and ment- mentally you know mentally stimulating and So I have no regrets about about volunteering tool. I think it's incredible. What am on the podcast. We always refer people to some of the end just because some people might have been Things come up if speaking about difficult issues and it's it's really fantastic to know that the Samaritans that just to listen in to have chats what sort of things that you deal with On a daily basis in terms of chatting to people oh my goodness Coolest issues are like snowflakes. There are two that are the same Era kind of broad categories that they can fall into such as `isolation loneliness mental health issues. Physical Health Issues Worries about work will finance family could be violence or abuse or things Those are very broad categories and when you to king to Kula it's completely incredible unit. You Cou- you couldn't you couldn't make up what some people have to go through And everyone everyone is different before Marson. I went to newspapers. And I thought I'd seen and heard do. But I realized when I when I became a smash in that hadn't even scratched the surface of what goes on in people's lives on a day to day basis. It's been very illuminating. Have you seen things change during the epidemic? Because I'm sure this Martin's being inundated during the stressful time interesting. We'll always inundated to be perfectly honest Shift and you take a cool and he put the phone down and immediately rings again. This just never any less up the calls. Just keep coming through and it's the same now And we have had a category added to the categories that we deal with one being covered. How the in my own experience of doing shifts through the lockdown I haven't had any cools specifically about Kovin. And when I think about it. I think that possibly mental health when it comes to mental health. It's a little bit like physical health. So people who have mentioned Cova to me have also go other issues. So it's a bit like you have underlying issues and then code and the challenges of coded Sorta the exacerbate these issues as it has done with physical health unit so the people who were suffering most with covert was the people who had underlying issues. And that for me. in the cools. I've taken has been the case. That people have got issues going on in their lives. May they may be prone to depression. They may be feeling very lonely. Anau lockdown has sort of those issues into much sharper focus. I haven't had anyone cool specifically about vid frightened of that actual many peop- law I think a lot of people to listening to the Picasso's probably relate to that because just vanik totally sort of from friends and even family who have sort of long-term half the she's Winstons if you sort of have anxiety General anxiety disorder that sort of become west because of to defensive in my case bipolar disorder in. They've been issues in terms of getting medication. Because of Kovic so it is also give lots of things become west sort of people yes I admit rishton about the unnaturally People with mental health issues and depending on how acute those mental health issues all often have quite a good comprehensive support cap package in place with the NHS and because of social distancing and because of not being able to see people face to face the many people with mental health issues. That support system has evaporated actually during lockdown. And we do. We do see people calling us because they can't any longer speak to that key worker. Will that support worker And Yeah I think I think it's. It's very difficult for people in that situation. Because the the package they used to be able to rely on. Isn't there the same thing happens a bit Christmas and Times like that holidays? People are away and doing other things. And it's a bit like that with lockdown some Jim Peas and mental health. Wise are offering example. Counseling defy laptops obsessions over the phone. I think it's probably pros and cons. Who Different people? I think some people find that helpful. Princeton's if you're depressed you might find easy to just sort of pick up the phone chat someone not she go into a surgery but then as he signed for a lot of people. If you're used to seeing the same pass in face to face it can be quite difficult to get used as a new way of talking to them or if together. I think doing what they can where they can. I think I think doing an incredible job. But it's inevitably gained be a bit patchy and maybe you'll key worker has to a self isolated is an can't be there for you I also had another cooler. He couldn't go to church for her. Church was a vital part of her of her weekly routine really was a point where she saw to touch base every week with the community that went to Sch- and suddenly that was taken from her and that was very hard So yeah it's it's people are finding that that regular support system has been taken away and therefore it leaves you feeling very on anchored and bit A little bit out of balance and I think there's no question that lockdowns been huge adjustment for all of us in. Its massive. What what has happened? In the last few weeks countries come to a standstill lutts huge. And you can't pretend it's no huge. It will have an impact on all of us to one degree or another. You know someone must have more resilient than others But you know being less. Resilient is not a sign of failure it is just the person you are and you may need some support and certainly smartened serve to support anybody. Who is struggling through this time?

Ice Skating

"Grace what's your first question for a bash. St Can you tell me about your job? What is it typical daylight who I liked that question so my typical day starts really early in the morning because I teach my students before school at an ice rink. So get up at about four o'clock and I'm on the ice four in the morning or in the morning four in the morning four in the morning. It's very quiet. And then we head to the rink. I warm up my students first and foremost and then I'm on the ice teaching them from five. Am till about seven forty five. Wow how did you get involved in ice skating introduce skate when you're a kid I did? I started skating because I saw Tolan Dean. How're British ice dancers on television? And I nagged my parents to take me to the ice rink and I started skating when I was three. Wow there's a four in the morning and there's three year old on skates. I'm learning a lot today. Okay grace back to you NIA. Is there something you really love about your job well? I used to ice skate when I was younger. So what I love is watching. People do the moves that I couldn't do like I could never do a triple toe loop and seeing that. You know three times a year at the competitions that I judge is really exciting and just seeing all the families come together and to really nice culture and environment to be in to be able to escape for your job it helps. I mean I think the big part of the trainee is to not get too emotional about the performances. Because when you're watching somebody do something. Really incredible like a like a a triple Lutz. Or something you know you're you get really pumped up. The music is driving. You and you really can't show any emotion when you're a judge because you've got parents surrounding you and they really want their kids to do really well. So if you look like you're favoring one person in the other That's really bad so you have to try to stay as neutral and professionals possible fast. Is there a skater? Who IN SPIDER? You UAE definitely? I was very inspired by escape at Cold Suray abundantly. She was a French figure skater and she really changed the game with figure skating because she was what we call a rebel so she did a few illegal elements like the backflip competition. And she always will the coolest costumes and she had really colorful makeup and she really broke boundaries. In what we'll figure skating was so I really looked up to her. I thought she was really cool. She was also the first one to do it on ice. No I don't think she was. All carpeted different sport. Fash can you tell me about the different jumps in figure skating? How are they different? Well jumps a kind of graded in terms of how many revolutions you do. What Direction you take off. So everything starts with the waltz jump which is half a revolution which is about one eighty degrees and that takes a Ford and then you land backwards then you progress to a South Cal. I call it a sad cow. Well you do a full three sixty. Before you do your one eighty so jumps have different takeoffs and different landing. Sometimes you'll land jump in the position to take off for another jump which is called a jump combination. The hardest jump is a Lutts because you go into it one direction and then you pivot use your topic and you jump the other direction loop jump is probably my favorite jump ego from backwards backwards and you use your edge. Not Your Toe Pick. Neil what is the most surprising thing you've learned about ice skating? Guess what surprised me as well a while ago if you know but They change the scoring system so it used to be out of six points and now it can be up to three hundred points. So there's a table of different moves you can do like vastly mentioned a flip. Sal Cow Lutts. There's a toeloop. All of these different moves have a different man. Points scale values trite. And so you have to. There's a a table and that table changes over time and that's something that I'm still getting used to because every year I have to get trained and re certified to be an ice skating judge. So that's something that's always something I have to keep learning and keep up to date on five state. Can you tell me about what were the first gates made out of the first skates were made out of bones? They weren't very versatile. Good question great question so the first thing is it helps to have skate experience. You don't have to be at an Olympic level but at least at college really helps you have to take some tests that show that you know as Russia saying what what a what a flip is You you need to know the what side of the edge that you're looking for so two edges on On escaped the left edge right edge and so knowing what side the skater is skating on You you can really Take no on. "And find out if money is correct. I think it's important that we learned some history and find out where the stereotype even came from before we can prove or disprove it. So I reached out to perhaps, the most preeminent expert of crying here in the US. This is Tom lutts. I'm the author of crying the natural and cultural history of tears. So what is the earliest record of tears? When I found the earliest one I found was the clay shard pottery, shard in the Sumerian desert that tells the stories from the fourteenth century BC tells the story of the death of ball and his sister, ISIS finds him dead and weeps over his body. And those tears bring him back to life. So it's kind of classic story. Pre-columbian groups like the aspects were known for crying specifically to reinforce requests like when a provincial ruler would ask the aspect emperor for aid tears would have been offered to the rain, God clock in exchange for the end of drought anthropologists have found artifacts that depict notches aspect but also Incan God's leaping. But as far as European culture goes, it, seems the obsession with crying or at least its depiction came a little later. Painters had couldn't quite figure out how do tears for awhile, last Memling in the renaissance the first one to really do good, representations of tears in painting. While tears may have been having their heyday.

But we'll drivers cash in on the stock to from American public media. This is marketplace tech demystifying the digital economy. I'm Molly would. Uber is going public tomorrow listing its shares on the new York Stock Exchange some employees of the company stand to make millions even billions of dollars and Uber is giving drivers with more than twenty five hundred rides on the platform. Cash bonuses that they can use to buy stock at the initial public offering price the amounts ranged from one hundred bucks two maybe up to forty thousand dollars depending on how many rides at driver has. But how much of a benefit is that two drivers who are already unhappy with their pay Shaly Ramirez, drives for Uber. She's eligible for the stock. But says I don't think it's enough. I think they're China throw crumbs at us at the end of the day. What we need is something that is guaranteed on a weekly basis on a daily basis on a yearly basis. On Wednesday in New York City Ramirez and other drivers protested outside Uber's headquarters calling for higher wages from Uber, and lift and better treatment, they were similar protests all over the country Ramirez drivers simply need to make more money. That stock is not going to stop us from becoming homeless that stock is not going to have that help pay our rent and care for our children. So they need to come up with something a little bit better than that. One academic says the ideal scenario would be for companies to give drivers equity before the company goes public as if they were engineers or product managers designers. A Cinderella Zhang is an NYU professor who wrote a book on gig employment and how it's changing the economy. He says securities law hasn't really caught up with the gig economy. The challenge for the privately held company is that it's extremely complicated to have hundreds of even thousands of people who don't have sort of a strong relationship or an employment relationship or onto credited investors to own sort of small numbers of shares in a private company, but he says he thinks the law will involve to allow private companies to give equity to their part time workers that would be a nice outcome. It would be sort of reflective of the fact that the made important. Tribulations to lake you know, the evolution and success of the company. Now, of course, having stock in a company doesn't mean you'll actually make money when it goes public lift also led drivers by shares when it went public, but its stock price has fallen since its public debut. Some drivers like J crater who also writes about the rideshare industry are pragmatic. You know, I think if you have the right mindset, it's it's not a problem. I mean, this is the relationship we have I am an expense. And they're gonna try and do everything they can to pay me as little as possible when Burgos public this week. It says it will reserve five point four million shares about three percent of its offering for drivers to buy with their cash. Bonuses, anything they don't buy. We'll be returned to the public market. Related links lift reported its first earnings as a public company on Tuesday. And although it gave a generally encouraging report it also held back some information that it used to give investors like the number of total rides and bookings. It had in the previous quarter, which is obviously fairly useful indicator of whether the service is growing, and I mean lift also lost over a billion dollars last quarter, which is more than it lost an all twenty eighteen, but okay, investors were mostly worried about the lack of data lift shares closed at an all time low on Wednesday, but lift did in partnership with Waymo the self driving car company owned by alphabet, which investors do like because they don't wanna see the company get put out of business by someone else's army of self driving cars, although obviously long-term that's not great news for drivers either. Because if the cars drive themselves who needs a human. I'm Ali would. And that's marketplace. Tech. This is a PM. Hi, I'm Zach and I listened to marketplace in Arlington Virginia. I think what I appreciate the most about marketplace's their ability to take the economic news of the day issues such as tariffs rate hikes and tax reform cut through the political noise, and clearly and concisely explained not only how these issues affect our country and the rest of the world, but how they impact people like me. "People are suffering. If that's the right word with is snow storm as blown across the country this past week. There are people who have been trying to enjoy it going skiing sledding tobogganing people building a snowman. So here's the story of a snowman that was built in Petersburg Kentucky. This past week the. Apparently, somebody was there was a little the the fun. Quotient here. Kids built the snowman in the yard of Corey lutts down in versus in Kentucky Mississippi sorry row. This was in Kentucky these people from Mississippi. And people were looking at this huge snowman, and so they thought oh snowball fights having a little fun the widow. So anyway, they build this. These are adults by the way, these not children, and they built the snowman around a tree stump. And so the people in the neighborhood looking at it kind of fun. Apparently, there was at least one person who didn't like the snowman. And so he drove into the yard and smashed he wanted to he was drunk smashed into the snowman. But unfortunately for him carbonara.

"The nationwide number here on on a lighter note. Well, maybe not for the driver of this vehicle. But this is just fantastic. This is like the ultimate where people do something stupid, and it comes back to bite them. Big time. Out of Petersburg Kentucky. There was a driver of a vehicle. Who decided that he was going to vandalize this giant snowman that was built Petersburg Kentucky. And well, there are multiple sources on this w x IS television w j w television and out of Kentucky. Is. It is where the story originates. So it turns out that these people in this Petersburg Kentucky. They built this giant stolman nine foot tall snowman with the snow that they had with that system that that rolled on through and dump the whole lot Saint Louis got wacked was snow. Parts of Kentucky got with snow. And it turns out that a guy named Cody lutts. Not to be confused with lutes which is a nice little enclave. Just to the north of Tampa in Florida. But Cody lutts that was also the name of the Amityville horror family, by the way, lutts if I'm not mistaken L U T Z. So Cody lots built the snowman over the weekend. And he told a FOX affiliate W X. I television that they were playing in the snow and they decided they were going to build this massive frosty. The snowman nine feet tall. Guess what happened? There was a big stump Emily yard, and they decided to use the stump as the base for the snowman. So the big big stump? Only looks to be three feet high. Maybe just a stump. So they get the snow pack it around the base. And then they build the snowman and apparently about nine feet tall while some schmuck on wheels. I mean, literally schmuck on wheels because he was driving vehicle is cleanliness schmuck. So that's a that's a schmuck on wheels. Like was it who is it from goodfellas was it Maury Maury the wig guy? Hey, you gotta get MAURICE MAURICE wigs. They stay on your head. They don't come off at the wrong time number and was deniro wack Maury Maury uses the line. What am I my wheels in goodfellas one of the greatest movies of all time, obviously? So they build a snowman. And some joker. Decides is gonna take his vehicle drive across their lawn and smash into the snowman. Well, what the driver did not know is that. The base of the snowman underneath was his big water tree, stump. So the driver drove across their lawn, and then smashes right into the snowman but hits the tree stump. Apparently. Anyway, big tire tracks across the yard. The vehicle was not seen doing this. And the vehicle must not have been incapacitated by the crash because the vehicle was gone, but the people who made the snowman the snowman still standing because the front bumper of the vehicle. Smashed into the stop. And it did not topple the rest of the snowman built on top of the stop. But again, I'd love to see what damage happened to the vehicle that tried to smash into the snowman. I'll be talking about instant karma. Hey, let's go destroy these people snowman in the yard. And then you just you're just tool at across. You hit something and suddenly all my God. What was that? So this particular case, hopefully, this Jack wagon I did some serious damage in the front end is mangled in the bumpers. All smell. It serves them, right? Instant karma serves them, right? I just wish that we could see what happens to the vehicle, but they got the vehicle out and they were away they weren't in the house at the time. That would be awesome. If the vehicle was just smoking in the put was all smashed up, but they got the vehicle out. But still I got to imagine this damage because the tire tracks. Are they only stop right at the stump? And then there's a whole it looks like at the truck probably a pickup truck, and there's a whole like a grille and bumper all smashed into the snow on the snowman base built around the stuff. So it serves them, absolutely, right. All right quickly. Let's get into Rudy Giuliani. Then I want to grab a series of phone calls. You let me grab a couple of calls first and then we'll get into Rudy Giuliani. Just a busy day. I got scratched the surface today. This the a lot of ground to cover in the forty five minutes, we have left. Let's go to Tucson, Arizona. Let's grab Connie in Arizona, Connie, your Schnitt. Welcome to the program. Thank you. What I want to know is what are we going to be told the truth about Ruth Bader Ginsburg else? Are we going to be continually lied to like they did John McCain? Well, I'm told that Ruth Bader Ginsburg is already expired. And that could be. Hang on. I hope no one just tuned out. Right. At that. I'm I'm joking. I'm making light of the the the situation which lesson. I I wish you the best health wise while I don't agree with her supreme court decisions. I don't agree with her her ideology or her jurisprudence. I listen, I don't want the lady to suffer. I want her to recover. Disagree with that. Holding that position that should be filled by someone else. Well, all eyes are on Ruth Bader Ginsburg will Trump get a third by the apple to nominate a third supreme court Justice and really any talk of. A swing vote. Now going to chief Justice John Roberts, for instance, potentially any talk. It's out the window this Iraq, baiter Ginsburg, if she retires or something happens and Trump gets to nominate another conservative Justice. You don't need a swing vote. At-at also much you could do is play little Egypt that ought to satisfy Pelosi. We can do that as well. Thanks for the call. Appreciate it. Yes. Listen, I I'm sorry. If that was all tasteless, though, Ruth Bader Ginsburg did not already expire. But now, it's been pretty quiet. I mean, she's still not back to work. I hope she recovers. You know, I I hope she's survives and beats this latest health challenge. Even though I disagree with her and to retire and enjoy her time, and you know, she can roller blade and scuba diving, and, you know, run decathlon, for instance, I just I prefer she's not on the supreme court, but I don't want her health necessarily to be what what does her end. So to the best of our knowledge, she is still alive. I can imagine. If somebody tune be out or just you got to the destination turn the radio offer, turn the TV off last. And was she did say, oh, yeah. She's already expired. No, no, no, no, no. Let's grab Davis in Nampa, Idaho. Hello, dave. You're on Schnitt height. Hey. Doing fine. Well, everybody is not pleased about the government shutdown at Trump is this. This closely affiliated doing well. Not not supposedly. I mean, he certainly has his hand. He's got his hand in. It course. Hey, Dave, hold on a second. But before you go let me be clear that I'm not happy with the government shutdown. I don't like government shutdowns. I've been very vocal about it. Go ahead. Well, he's he also stayed saying, oh, I can solve the government funding of this wall within fifteen minutes. I'm thinking to myself, man. I did it in twenty seconds. It's not less. My question is what about the drug cartel FBI in the DA drug seizure money? They have these. I guess you can call them storage facilities where they store drug seed money drugs seized drugs, and it just sitting. We have these places are filled with millions. If not more than billions of dollars. Dirty money. Good for like all the cocaine heroin. That were holding a pretty sure they destroy a lot of it. But if they got a ton of it, they ought to just sell it on the street and use that money to build the wall. Well, like we did back. Let's you didn't even bat an eyelash, I'm joking around. But listen, it's a good thought. But let me take to something we do know is that Senator Cruz from Texas has reintroduced the Bill or I because we did this story last week. I thought Senator Cruz because he had made rumblings about this. I think last year, and he did he reintroduce the he wants to use L Chapo money and El Chapo with seized assets. El Chapo, a multi-billion dollar operation us, El Chapo money to build portions of the wall. And since you know, there's a concern about illegal drugs coming over even though the bulk of the illegal drugs come over actually smuggled in through legal channels in trucks that are transporting other merchandise lot of the drugs come in that way, not by mules carrying over illegally. You've got. Underground tunnels clearly the drug tunnels or another way that drugs come in. But I I like I like Senator Cruz idea of using El Chapo money to build as much of the wall as possible, thanks for the call. Hey, folks, I wanna talk about light stream dot com, and the fact is if you are not using light stream if you don't have a credit card consolidation loan from stream you my friend are paying too much interest. In most cases, the national average, you it'll make your your toes curl on what the national average is on the interest rate on credit card debt, the APR. What are you paying do?.

"New care about on the move. So the migrants have left Honduras, Guatemala. They're coming. They're coming in other ones. Come and last one worked. Now, they're they're all practical purposes, a work, and they're all people from South America, of course. Yeah. In the meantime, we got the prayer rugs being found in. Along the southern border. We've got reports of Germans and others and middle easterners. It was yesterday. I haven't watched the CBS evening news for a long time on TV. And I haven't watched local news for a long time on TV. And so I thought well watch my alma mater channel five. And so I turned on the CBS evening news. And again, I used to I worked for CBS. I worked in New York for CBS off and on. And so I I know how I know as I always like to say, I know how the sausage is made the sausages may thank you. I know the sausage is made. I can't remember what's in my mind. I just turned to Katie. She tells me, what's. Is it for you? So watch the CBS evening news and yesterday. This was a big story. There was a Muslim man charged with trying to blow up the White House. This is a big deal. It's a big story. And fortunately, he was caught by federal agents, and he was federal federal agents were posing as fellow bad guys. And and he was trying to buy bombs and stuff from them. I mean, this is a big story. I was trying to blow up the White House. He had he had had written sketches of the west wing. Where did he get those from? This is a big story. Last night of the CBS evening news. He got fifteen this. This story. Got fifteen seconds. Really that should have been the lead story. It got fifteen seconds. If it was Obama. Oh my God. It would have been that would have been all over the place seconds. Then they wrote a story about our vice President Mike Pence is wife she's decided to start teaching again at a Christian school in DC were apparently she taught in the past. She's gonna teach parttime at this Christian school Christian school has a policy. They do not admit homosexual students. That story got two minutes. Two minutes of coverage. The guy who tried the Muslim who tried to blow up the White House got fifteen seconds. So I tweeted about this said Muslim and charged with trying to blow up White House gets fifteen seconds on CBS news while VP's wife teaching at Christian school that does not a bit homosexual students. Get nearly gets nearly two minutes editorial bias question, Mark. Yes. Of course, this is crazy guy had a plot at a scheme, and he's from that, quote, unquote, religion a piece which we're never supposed to talk about. He's trying to blow up the White House. And to me those troubling part of it is not only, you know, you could write it off as well. Just a crazy wack job. He had sketches of the inside of the west wing that to me is incredibly troubling. Even get that. In the meantime, okay, I mean, should it not surprise you that a Christian school has this policy? No. It's just it's is absolutely maddening. So that was a big story yesterday. This guy tried to blow up the White House. I think that's huge. I think it's really huge. And is what he wants to talk about it. So we've got that story. The news. Then we've got let me see the other story the news, we could talk about the government shutdown. But I just don't know where to go with this. Because I don't know how this is going to. I don't know where how this is playing out how this is playing out as eight hundred thousand people not getting paid. And that's the story. Maybe the other stories should be goodness. Life kind of goes on with all without without all these people being paid. There's some motivation for the people who do those jobs, then the other stories why did Nancy Pelosi threaten the president. Well, why did Nancy Pelosi suggested the president that he he cancelled his state of the union address? And then threatened him basically single you you can't do it because you're not going to be safe. Well, she did this to make a case before the American people look at secret service department of homeland security not getting paid to which we kind of turned it around. You know, you're the leader of the house of representatives. Couldn't you put forth a Bill right now for all government shutdowns. We're going to demand that secret service and department of homeland security get paid and they get paid right now. She could do that. Yeah. Essential Bennett pass lickety-split. This is pure politics. It. Yeah. This is just a political game for her four one five eight zero eight fifty six hundred on Kosovo. All right here, we go. Here's the driver in Kentucky. So I don't know what the deal was this guy guy named Cody Cody lutts, Cody, let's build a snowman over the weekend. Because they that a lot of snow in Kentucky. And I mean, it's a big big snowman things. It's big. So some jackass decided to take it down some jackass. I'm getting in my truck literal net dang thing over I'm going to blow it down. I'm gonna blow down. This guy takes his truck and Rams into the snowman the snowman had been built around the Trump of the trunk of a large tree that Ben cut down. There's some instant payback. That's it. That's it. Let's say it was hilarious. What goes around comes around? Does. Instinct. Let's go limp. Jerry, you are quick. Blow that went up, right? Please drive drive your truck through that. Okay. Yeah. Yeah. He is issuing a recall to fix a problem that could cause engine fires. Tell you what could cause an engine fire a snowman built around a tree trunk and you try to crash into it. You want to build a?.

"And the northeast apparently going to get buried by a foot or two from the same Salem coming up at six o'clock. We will talk about the retirement of Marty Brennaman speculate on who might replace him in the reds radio booth and fifteen minutes on News Radio seven of and just a bath five forty eight right now, and one of those things where you wish you had video of this. We know what happened, but there's no video of this and Petersburg and k y they decided to put a little snowman together. This is from FOX nineteen Cody lutts build a snowman over the weekend. And then someone tried to run it over with their car a nine foot snowman that is pretty big. Then he comes home yesterday day before and sees tire tracks across his lawn with someone ran down his snowman not knowing the base of the snowman was on a huge tree, stump. So you can see where the hit the snowman and hit the tree stump. Snowman did not fall down snowman made it through. But it would be great to have video of not just a car, but the look on the driver's face when he thought he was gonna plow straight through this nine foot tall snowman. And. It looks like he backed out of the same tire tracks that he went in with because only once at a tire tracks. But let's say instant karma instant karma is that the situation was hilarious and added what goes around comes around and good ways and bad ways. I guess everyone learns a valuable lesson here from frosty. Yes, they do. Just wish there was video. It is five forty nine right now and my friends at Kroger and your friends at Kroger for that matter always do their best to make it as convenient as possible for you to shop with them, and you can do for the most part right there online. Go to Kroger dot com and two big options would be to simply fill out your grocery list, and send it to them. Tell them. What time you got to be there then show up and they come out to your car with a big old smile on their face. And you eat a pop the trunk of pop the hatch, and they put it in there. And you take it home and put it away. And that's very very simple, especially you got the kids in tow and stuff like that. You have them trekking either through the snow to get to the car or through the snow into the into the the.

"Vernon in the breakfast club. Now in two thousand nineteen we have don't mess with frosty or you'll get the stump. This after a driver in Kentucky seemingly got a rude awakening. When he tried to run over a neighborhood snowman Cody lutts built the snowman over the weekend with his family and Petersburg when let's return home from work on Monday. He spotted tire tracks stretching throughout his yard to the base of the snowman. He believes someone tried to run over the nine foot tall frosty before meeting head on with a tree trunk upon which the snowman was built to give it a sturdy base. Let's call the failed attempt to take out the snowman instant karma. And I'm sure folks around town are now on the lookout for the car with the tree. Shaped dent in the grill. Snowman built on a tree very formidable looking tree too. I mean, so it looks like a super huge snowman it was actually like a four foot tall. Yeah. Five foot tall tree? Man. I I I'm gonna guess there some alcohol involved here. But again, just speculation on my part hard for me to imagine that somebody intentionally drove on someone's lawn with the intention of wiping out a snowman perhaps perhaps maybe some youth. You know, maybe on the way home from trying to create a little mischief. See perhaps my people that I knew not me. But people that I knew maybe in high school who might have tried to do something like that to further that point where you in that car, perhaps as a passenger may have been in the past surfing the back seat in the front seat nine shotgun. Maybe in the back seat. No further questions, and if Africa Gordon plays on repeat in the desert in Africa. But nobody's around to hear it isn't actually happening. We'll have to take one man's word for it. I guess an artist has set up an installation designed to use solar power play. Africa by TOTO in a Namibian desert indefinitely. The twenty seven year old has titled the installation TOTO forever. And put it up at an undisclosed location, and the twelve hundred mile long desert and sent along a video clip as proof..
