"For sure. Yeah. All right, Craig fife in Scotland reaching up. Love the pod, my question rate is when was the last time you put on skates picked up a stick and just played hockey for fun, pull ten years? Really? Yeah, I mean, I go out a little bit in the summer. Well, I go out. I stand there and pass pucks to land and every so often I like when I'm all there and you know, he's catching his breath between a drill, while skiing down the ice and shoot a puck and I'm just a bearish at the velocity that comes off my stick, so I'm like, I'm not doing that anymore. I'll just, I can still pass as long as there's not any other traffic. On the ice, I'm a decent passer. Okay, here's a fun one too from Bruce. I have a questionable Lula Morello's no facial hair rule. Now number one, does it still exist or is it a modified? Okay, so we've established it's still exist. How the heck does he get away with that kind of rule? Grown men, I don't think there's any other workplace where a rule like that would be acceptable. Why doesn't the PA complain to the league about this? It just seems very odd. All right, I guess they could complain, like anybody cares to the player's character. The only guy that might care is Kyle Paul Mary. He could shave at 8 o'clock in the morning, and by 1130 he probably needs a touch up. Yeah. He could honestly he could grow a beard between the end of the regular season and the start of the playoffs. But I've always kind of, they're like, all right, no air. Remember when Matt Martin came to Toronto? He had that long hair and then he walked around the corner for the first exhibition or the first day of camp and you're like, whoo. Exactly. That's changed. Okay, last one did Josh. Ray to your kids collect hockey cards, or have they, and if so, how many of yours or any of yours did? They do not. Hockey cards know 13 year old he's a soccer fanatic. And so he's got this book. Honestly, I got to tell you, I just love it. He's got this book that he starts before the World Cup, and he collects the cards and puts the cards in teams, and then he moves the cards around if he was, he has like a kind of an all star team and so he's got like his best back line and his midfielders and his number ten and he puts them in this folder. I just collecting cards like a lot of things, for the most part, has gone by the wayside. It has. But the love of the game and you learn of the players and how you connect to it. The cards really do that sort of thing. And so I love that he does it. As far as mine, I get a bunch of my cards in a, in a little container, but they don't have any. This container in my cards. I'd have to go look for it. I don't know where it is. All right, let's give out some merchandise. What do you think? I feel like for Craig fife from Scotland or Joe. Sure. That'd be awesome. It's going to cost us Canada post handling and fees and all of that, but you know, we're kind of a big deal. So I think that's a good one. I do like the hockey cards one actually. Oh, okay. Because I don't know, it made me think of what I was a kid, okay? So Josh and Craig fife. There will pick it up some rain rigs hockey podcast merchandise. So thank you to Canadian club whisky for helping out with that. All right, time to wrap it up, get on with the weekend. Little golf. What do you got going? Milwaukee Pittsburgh. You talked about going to Pittsburgh for Boston and Pittsburgh, come back on Sunday, get back early Sunday. I don't know, there's always something on the weekend. You remember when your kids are growing up, there's always something. So Sunday will be busy, and then Monday, late morning. I fly to LA for oilers kings on Tuesdays. That'll be a dandy too. I'm looking forward to that. And you're going to meet up for dinner with one of the great people in the game. Mike el Terry, who's a director of communications in LA, is a long time. We met when I got to LA in the mid 90s. He was just starting there. Yeah. So he'd be at the front of the bus and with the management part and we'd be at the back and we'd be stuck in traffic and Kevin Stevens, just amazing. Kevin would fall Mike. Might hit the Toronto the bus. Yeah. And he'd go. You're whitey, what's going on up there? Because we'd be stuck at traffic. Mike would go, I don't know, already. We're stuck in traffic. He's like, okay, just checking. And hurting him. So he's just anyway, he's just he's an awesome guy. I look forward to having dinner with him. And I'm sure I'll run into Luke and so that's always a good trip for me. I love going to LA. Nah, good for you. What do you got going on? Pretty quiet. A bit of a flu bug last day and a half. Brutal. I'm going to lay low and try and flush that out of my system. No pun intended. And hopefully be better at some point in the week. And you know what? I just dive onto the couch, watch golf, watch baseball, whatever I got going, goes in and out and maybe meet some buddies depending on how I feel, but nothing heavy lifting and looking forward. While she'll better drags and everybody, thanks for listening and we'll talk to you on Tuesday. You got shut it down. Oh, dot C, now available in Ontario, the game starts now, since botanical, and by dewar, use code R&D pants, and you will save 15% of everything I do or not see. That is episode 52 of The Rain rigs, podcast, have a great weekend, everybody, stay safe, and we'll be back with episode 53. On Tuesday.

"That. And I think that I think a player like Luke Shen can be brought to Boston for a lesser price. Luke comes in, Carlo has proven he's not solid on his feet and isn't that great with the puck. Yeah, I mean, everybody makes mistakes. I mean, even mcavoy makes mistakes and so on. But when he makes mistakes, it's not a tax season. Like it is with Brandon Carlo because technically like Brandon kylo is like the new whipping boy for the Boston everyone's fan base. Like it was Tuco rask at tuca rask. Everything is default. A coronavirus was super RAS fault. We're all gonna die because tuca RAS. And now we're all gonna die because Brandon car a little bit of mistake. I don't see it. I don't see it. I'm not saying that he's the best defenseman out there either. But I'm saying that he's very, very valued in the room. Coaching staff, organization, the league. He's a union rep for the team. Barzal and horvat together would be crazy good. Yeah. That would be amazing. And then we never hear about 2015 again. And oh my God, Sweeney, he sucks. Beth, Beth comes in with another question. Win and lose do think burr, you retires and creates you will be done. If they win, I don't think neither of them come back. If they lose, I think one of them comes back and I think Patrice burr's around. That's just my point. In my opinion, but hopefully, hopefully they don't. Sharon dietz, jazz diet, love this, love this woman. Let me light that up. Heard an interesting take on the radio yesterday that Lou might sign horvat and trade barzel. Wow. That would be amazing. What would that do to the center depth Sharon of the New York islanders franchise? I mean, to me, that's Lula Morello taking steps back.

"I don't see them. I don't see big assets coming in and immediately turning a franchise around like this and immediately becoming Stanley Cup relevant, but this might be Lou lamoriello's idea of a soft rebuild for next season and then he could make some make some noise. It's not out of the ordinary Jacob to be honest with you. But although it's not seen often, it's been done before, so. He says that there's a jam of teams fighting for two wildcard spots. Yeah, right now it's Washington and Pittsburgh that a secured the spots as we record this now, but buffalo and the island is in the Florida Panthers are all not that far away from that log jam that you mentioned, Jacob. Jacob also says if the islanders don't like where they are at deadline there. Andrew McPherson, he comes in and says some commentators on NHL network said if the islanders do not think they can sign Bo by the trade deadline, they may move him. To recoup what they lost, especially if they are still sitting outside the playoffs. Absolutely, Andrew, that's that would be Lula Morello. Lupo Lu at his best is to give away something. And then try to get it back if things don't work out. So I could definitely see that happen. But now now here's another scenario is like, you know, Boston everyone's fan is as old as I am. They know the trend and so on. Some teams don't like to deal with in the conference. Sometimes some teams don't like to deal with the division and so on. So now if Lou lamoriello is interested in flipping Bo horvat for assets and look into the bruins, I think that Lou would probably want a king's ransom and I'm still not willing to pay for something like that. If we can resign him, I mean, it's gotta be, it's gotta be a sign and trade kind of deal for me to latch on to it and say, yeah, you know, I mean, I mean, who knows? It could flip one more time before 12 o'clock on March 3rd. Which is a Friday, by the way. And we will be doing a live stream, I'm taking that day off from work.

"Of the lineup, And even if they lose a player due to attrition in a long series, I think they have the line of that survives it better. Get a goal scorer being a defenseman? Um maybe, And that might be the only place that would they already lost. And yeah, But listen little Amorello, Listen, I'm with I'm with you and Chris here. My heart is with the Islanders. I am such a huge Barry Trotz fan the way he handles his team. I'm a big fan of Lula Morello the way we talked about discipline earlier. This is a guy that Andrew, you can speak to more than anybody else about Lula Morello and how When you're with his group, you do things his way and you trust it. If you do it that way, you're going to have some success and then the players in my junior play by play career I work for the Toronto ST Mike's majors in both Casey Cizikas and Cal Clutterbuck around our team. And both. Those players haven't changed the way they play since those days up until now, and it's real truth that you're rewarded. If you play your game the same way, let the coach and let the team figure out how to use you. That's what Barry Trotz and Lou Lamoriello have done with this Islander team. So I I would absolutely love to see the cup there the Coliseum one more time, but I think And will predict the Tampa Bay will be that, um That team that the Oilers kept running into which were then the Islanders when they were trying to win the cup, just like the Islanders are trying to do now. Tampa is going to be there. Um, there Islanders if you will. Yeah. Yeah, They didn't have cases Cizikas last year in a bubble in the conference finals for the Islanders, So that was a big thing. Boston lost to the Islanders because Boston Florid line mainly did not compete. And they had a goaltender that was injured to harass by the way out, probably 5 to 6 months with a thorn labrum in his hip, so he's got to have hip surgery won't be ready for January or February next year, and he's a U F A. So that's going to be interesting. Um, but I'm gonna go with temper as well, because I think they're strong up and down the line up. They have no weaknesses. Um, And that's the way I look at it. Okay, good. And a good coach to we talked about very charged. How good years. I mean, John Cooper's are pretty darn good. John Cooper. Jeff Halpern, former teammate of mine, Jeff Halpern is on the bench and assistant coach. I think they're great. Who you got this or that The Canadians are the Golden Knights Dan. We'll start with you disorder that Montreal or Vegas Unless somehow Patrick Waugh and Cary Price are the same guy. Um, and history repeats itself. I I just Vegas is a freight train once they get on track. I don't think Montreal Will be shut out in the series. I think they'll do their Montreal thing and surprise people and win a game. But once Vegas gets on track here, um You know, I just don't see who stops this team. I think they're just I'll tell you who start a freight train and it's going to be Montreal. They're going to stop Vegas. It's going to happen. You watch You mark my words. Montreal is going to beat the Vegas Golden Knights. Do I want this to happen? I do not want this to happen. But it's going to happen. I know you want it to happen. It doesn't matter. I have personal reasons. I don't have to tell you that Dan is none of your damn business. Dan family and appreciated. Stand in my personal affairs. Dan, listen, if Vegas was to win the Cup we the instigators are invited to Alex Ducks Cup celebration. We're doing the show from his Yeah, I said I want Vegas to win, but it's not gonna happen. Okay? Well, here's coming. I mean, come on. Here's the thing. Montreal, Montreal in Vegas, both of them. It's so funny because coaches make decisions and you scratch your head in like what? But if it works, it works. Right. So, um, McDavid's dry Seidel was together and then they take him apart. And then you're like, Well, what are you doing? Take him and taking them apart. Matthews Marner were together. They don't take him apart. You're like, Oh, you should take it apart, but It only works. It only is a good decision if you work if it works, so Vegas start letter in Game one. You're like, What are you doing? But they went so it works. Dominique Ducharme in Montreal doesn't play cold Caufield and yes, very cut Kanye me in Game one against Toronto, and they win and they beat Toronto and you're like what? Like It only is a good decision. If it works. Those two coaches have made some weird decisions beat the boar and Dominique Ducharme, but it has worked. So, um I still think Vegas is going to win. But Montreal we should learn from what has happened the last two rounds. And say Montreal is better than we give him credit for so, But I still think that Vegas is going to win that. Okay, quickly. We only have a few more minutes. Who wins the Hart Trophy, or I should say who has a better chance to upset Connor McDavid's for the art trophy. Matthews are McKinnon because it's Matthew's McKinnon and make David for the heart. I think we all think McDavid's going to win the heart, but Who is the closest to upsetting Connor McDavid's for the Hart Trophy. Matthews are McKinnon PD Go first. He didn't want to go first. I did not. You're right. I did not. Look at what? Wow, I don't think Connor McDavid's should be winning the heart, the heart, but that's just me. My heart trophy winner is not on this list. I'm not trying to be difficult, but I would pick Nate McKinnon closed guru is not on the list. You're still wanted. Marty, would you give that up? Would you give that was five years ago? That was five years ago five years ago, and I was the only person that said Clo Jerusha should be a Hart Trophy, The Hart Trophy winner You had 100 points that year. Okay, So who would you pick? You said MacKinnon as a better chance to upset economy David, which will not happen, But who would you pick for the hard this year is not on the list. Crosby. Okay. He was voted by the players go to for the Ted Lindsay Award, So that's pretty good. Then this or that match Wait. Crosby won the Ted Lindsay or nominee was nominated. So it's uh, It's Matthew's, McDavid's and Crosby. I believe, but it seems the players know the players know right there. Look at the Hart Trophy and look at the look at the, uh Ted Lindsay. That's the players. No, thank you. Okay. Dan, who is closest to upsetting Connor McDavid's Matthews are makin em this or that. Closest to upsetting boy. We're talking minuscule of a percentage vote between those two. Um, well, okay. For sake of conversation, I will say, although I don't really want to, but I'll do it for the show, The Austin Matthews With the number of goals that he pumped in for that team..

"He's like get out. I'm like okeydoke. So so i back my office. My phone rings and it was the dreaded eighty three hundred extension. which was david. Stern's pick up the phone already with cold sweat on my brow. Knowing that i was going to get the thrashing. He's like does it goes i. I don't know you would let me in. He's like why not isaac well put-on get back there. It's like awesome like toggle between two titans as a young aspiring executive. So two weeks later invites me back are. I begged my way back over. You wanna you wanna remember the story. And so i go back in saint in a comfortable chair pacing rounds office. I finally get lead in any sitting behind his desk. Throws a book at me and says. Don't come back until you read this. I catch the book. I looked out in. Its a vince lombardi. I was like i. I have to go read this now like out a like in the car. I go back to new york same. Eighteen hundred calls same routines like a read. The book you know anyway. So it's funny like i. I went back and third time. And this i asked to take. Take now commissioner adam. Silver and burning. My longtime boss could both amazing friends of mine. Now and i'm in the car. And i'm a low totem pole. I'm thirty years old. And so i had written notes written up notes as. Here's what i think we should say like because i said to stern on like i don't think you send me back there by myself. Like i don't think he cares about me. i don't think he. I don't think it's any respect to say. And so he's like you know. I can ask him. He's like well whatever. I can deal with toll thing so. I grabbed my boston. Adam where the car over there. And so i prepared these notes you know for these guys like three pages of notes. Here's what i would say. Here's why would lead the questions out. Ask teed up. Because that's what i did for the nba off consultant for the team. So i would go in particular when new people took over the teams. I would go in and kind of run them through a you know. Here's a don't list effectively and here's a to do list. And here's an evaluation of your organization. And here's some recommendations etc so we're in the car and i was like okay. You guys have this right got it. So we sit down. Lou says you know bernie and they had known other back from the providence days and brings like adam adam scott. I'm like you guys got kidney. So here i am about to get slaughtered. So i go into my pitch because i know the organization very used to work there. Then that's a start as a marketing assistant so new new. The players knew the organization. So i go into my life hardcore. Here's where i've found. Here's what i think we need to do. But i went through and he was putting me to. I mean keep. He put me on the hot seat and i was going to hold on my own doing my thing so i went down to hear the ten things i would change. Tomorrow i did a whole solo thick and so he's like are you done now. I was like yes i am. You know figuring. I was gonna get thrown out for the third time. Why not tons of charm and he goes and he opens his board. Had this big like covered forty opens it up everything that i walk in through. He had written down the board walk dinner. So that that's Is a good lesson on so many fronts. One is never underestimate the great lula morello in business in hockey as a friend. He's one of the one of the great human beings in the sport of hockey. And i've cherished my friendship with him and and hope to have a statue of him outside the prudential center at some point He's that good i mean. He's the vince lombardi of hockey. He's he's the great of the great human being and as hockey executive and so that's one two we ever you go into his office. You better put a tie on you. Better have read something from vince. Lombardi and you better be prepared. But he funny twenty one of my one of my all time favorite people. I got two more quick ones for you. Number one. how. Many madison square garden executives can adam graves pinned against the boards at the same time. So i i listen. I am a basketball junkie. Okay i think hockey is the greatest live sport in the history of the world. But i grew up skating a little bit of hockey on chadwick lake in newburgh new york but no skill at all none. Okay good hands. They say but but moves like a a sloth on the ice if you could imagine a sloth and skates so the first thing i did when i got the amnesty was like hey when we played hoop. We don't play. This is madison square garden. And what we do now so for the first six months i was getting my regular bre in on the court next on your kid so on the court. Madison square garden wisconsin dream. And why didn't have any legs even then my mouth. I'm a world class shit talker world class and so the hockey guy started. Give me a hard time. Oh you're guys not. I love hockey. And they're like can we play on the ice outside. Yeah and so if there were a fifth line. I don't think i would have been on advocating for the games but we did have rhonda gay played added gravy played. I mean it was kind of unbelievable and a lot of guys played with. Were college hockey player. So and i'm not but we had like there was a group of us that couldn't play and play. Now i'd be on that group and adam graves like ever hit anybody. Not he's like take me and i literally. I stayed as fast. I can't which is slow and try to put him into the board. And i bounced off like a like a super bowl like memory. Were katya super bowl. That was me. An angry is the nicest in the history of the world. I don't know if you know. Maybe it all but literally i mean he eats all. You cannot believe me i meet. You can't believe that someone can be that authentic in that wonderful net night on the not so much so i bounced him off him like a super bowl and and i was my mouth the whole time. Which wasn't a great idea. And then at one point the puck into the corner of course would be twenty minutes skate over there. And i felt pressure on my body. Like i've never felt before. And i felt like i was pinned to the glass. Almost like a bad sitcom where your face is like against the glass and it felt like an hour. It was probably a minute but it was way too long so he had me and two other guys pinned and immobilized for way too long but not not a fun night. that's for sure. And here's my last one. If chris jury was kidnapped and replaced by you would anybody be able to tell the difference through our cat in. When i was at the rangers people that have been with been around kind of big market big revenue teams at small market Lower revenue teams have. So it's of fun to think back. Those meme reason and chris was drew as a elite elite leader and a wonderful human being. When i was at games. I would either be asked if i was chris jury or if i was brother i mean it was. It was almost painful. Like i took it as a great compliment. Scott both professionally. And if you're comfortable personally what makes you nervous. What makes me any kind of technology. Uncertainty logging onto this podcast. I hadn't used his platform before cold sweat getting in the car. I'm an awful driver. I'm not as bad as my daughters by the way. I don't know if you know this but my daughters are such bad drivers that the insurance company called and said we're not willing to carry you anymore. Oh wow and i said there has to be some price we can pay and they said not with us so yeah three. Crashes and several tickets later the not destroy their lovely ladies but not their strong point. But when i'm driving. I get anxious if i'm going but but not too much else and the final one if commissioner gary bettman called you this afternoon and said scott. We're giving you the ability to change one thing in hockey. What would it be. And you can't answer by gary. I'm the commissioner. Actually you could. That would be even funnier..

"Accounting help and we're bodies of legal help provide some marketing and branding guides and so it's been an incredible platform doesn't cost us much. The only thing costs this time. And it's an easy platform for teams to jump onto the that. We have which i'm really proud of. Is diversity spending like when you look at the money you're spending and you do an audit you know. Sadly most of the businesses that we're spending money with on the vendor side are white businesses. Why don't businesses which is fine. We just wanna represent better represents the communities that we live work and play in and so we have a very aggressive initiative to make sure that our vendor spending is much more balanced so there. There's two like really simple programs. We've pledged twenty million dollars to black and brown communities. We just acquired a theater in jersey city new jersey and a lot of what attracted the mayor of the city and the governor of the state to us was very focused on impacting communities. That could use a little help and we all we had we've been gifted with these platforms and they're wonderful like for team is the greatest gig in the world. It truly is anybody who played a sport growing up. You get the thrill of the win and a loss Like you did back when you're a kid but the gift is that this is a platform for good in a platform for change and we have an opportunity now to take that leverage it and make a difference and that's a it's it's filling a thing i do as anything in my life. Let me follow that up with With something that. I hope you're open to talking about because it is a private thing amongst your amongst your group and that is a lot of the video calls that you do with staff and you'll have elton brand on the calls. Pk soubanh i know has been on the calls before. What can you share about what happens on those internal calls where people like brandon. Soo sudan are involved. Sure when it when it comes to to just generally our calls we to have access for our team to our coaches players are gm's because this is a family has been will be will be. We are working tirelessly to make the experience for our players. A world class experience in philadelphia newark and We do With our our trainers our health and wellness folks are ticket. Sales reps are marketing people and everybody in between We wanna make sure that we are one we're family and so the opportunity to bring big stars into the mix the have a ticket. Sales rep talk to pk. Sue ban or lindy. Ruff or tom fitzgerald or elton. Brand or doc. Rivers or ben simmons during the days of social unrest in the us. We were very fortunate to have a black general manager of black head coach and pk. Suzanne who is a global icon superstar. And so what a gift to have. Strong men Who have experienced racism in their life. Come on and provide an lead three back to back to back sessions. A ninety minute sessions. Where are black and brown. Employees were detailing their experiences with racism growing up and what an education for those of us who are white to listen and learn and ask questions and in times like it was really emotional so there are times when it matters most that we had our greatest stars in our constellation of stars show up at lead and other times we bring them on and we talk about their favorite hockey moments or their draft night. Or what is like to be drafted. It'll be do all that stuff because it's fun but the moments that matter man it's been pretty special And i think having that type of access having working in a culture where we truly know each other as people care about each other as people. That's what it's all about okay. Why did lula morello throw you out of his office twice. You know i. I talked to yesterday to wish him. Luck into series against the bruins. I love him. He's he's a mentor and friend of mine will be for a long time but i i was a young young executive and you know if you know me as confident now you see me back then so i- loo- had just taken over the nets so it was a funky time. It's like the nets and devils and yankees were somewhat merged and a until taking over the nets and so so i was working at the nba league office at the time. And and my boss david. Stern said get over to new jersey. He never seen anything nicely. But he's i get over new jersey heck's going on so i was like okay. You know so. I reached out to lose office. Were enough to get a meeting. Two days later. I waited outside his office in this awful uncomfortable chair who was at the meadowlands at the time. Continental arena arctic was named. I don't think it was is out yet. So forty five minutes on waiting chat my foot and i mentioned before i got cancelled. Still getting opera pacing around and come back sit down for two minutes taser on so i walked in his office. He looked at me. Like who are you. I was like well. You know. "Sierra four elliott today our special guest is the ceo of the new jersey. Devils also Ceo the philadelphia. Seventy sixers of the nba. Scott o'neill Real interesting guy. Real interesting background. Think you're going to enjoy this conversation. should also point out. He is the author of a new book called. Beware your feet are Seven principles that keep you present grounded and thriving from your perch before we get into the peace year. What do think people should know about. Scott o'neill he's got a really interesting background. He's been at madison square garden. He's now as you mentioned with the devils and sixers one of the things we talk about is the process what they went through on both in on-court and business perspective from the seventy sixers when they basically scorched the earth and that is a hotly debated thing you know. I love in the interview. The stuff about lula morale. I think i think people in in our sport are fascinated by lula morello and what he's like and the stories he tells are pretty hilarious. The thing that i think about this interview. I like is it. It really veered into different topics. Jeff some very serious and some very light soul. I think in this one. There's going to be something for everyone. The one that i was curious about with his work with the devils. And we saw this with the seventy sixers. He goes into it in some depth here. We've seen teams just for the sake of this podcast. Considering its hockey will focus on hockey. We've seen some teams start to come together on the ice but the organization around the team sort of isn't ready for success and the organization scrambles and it costs the team on the ice elliott. We've seen this countless times. We don't talk about it a lot but it does happen. And it happens with some frequency with the philadelphia. Seventy sixers. you know. This group had a depress team a team. That couldn't win but in that moment and around that time what they went about is sort of what they're going about in new jersey right now creating an environment around the team so when that team is ready to be great the organization around the team is great as well so there isn't any conflict or friction or they'll be nothing that the organization does that affect negatively. What happens on the ice. I agree with that entirely when you're in in his position. You know everything that happens reflects on you whether it's your fault or not It reflects on you because your the face. It's funny when. I say this a lot but know what you're signing up for. I tell it especially to young journalism. Students are are young reporters. Know what you signed up for. There are great rewards but there are also great risks and one of the things out. There is that when you go into this business. You put yourself out there publicly jeff. Every mistake you. And i make everyone sees it. Oh yeah scott. O'neil you get the great tidal you get all the perks and benefits that go with it but that also means that everything reflects on you and i think the best understand and it's clear like there's a point in the interview where he disagrees with one of my and he says to me you should get your facts straight and the the the reaction i take from that is this is a person who has incredible pride in the job that they do and the company that they work with and i think that's the way it should be. You should be willing to say. Hey i defend what we're thinking. And i defend our process and what. I think the best leaders do that. They admit mistakes whenever they happen. I loved his book. Talks about failure and how to handle it. I think being a leader is to things accepting mistakes and blame for them. But to having pride in where you work for and wanting to be the best. And i think in this interview it shows both of those sides of you agree or disagree.

"But i'm mike well on his national best friend's day. Tony how should we celebrate. I'm tony kornheiser. i'm sorry. I got plans with pablo man. Oh blow placed me. All righty this since. How is pablo very funny gonna. Pti boys and girls in today's episode sons pizza nuggets. Aaron rodgers misses the start of minicamp in the katie. ends suddenly. look on beatable. But we begin today with the brooklyn nets simply destroying the milwaukee on roasting the nets were up by seventeen at the quarter twenty four at the half thirty. The third and by as much as forty nine points in the fourth will pick the box in this series. Exactly what to the bucks. Have to be optimistic about now going home. That's it that's all they got to look. I i told you yesterday. I thought in game one. The bucks majored in dumb by just firing jack up threes as if they were you know golden state or somebody. Isn't that what they do. If big strong tough guys allegedly and guys who could play defense and do any of that. Let's just go jack it up and they look like morons they did. They played that when they're not is a bright team with bread individual players in a bright coaching staff. And i don't know what the hell they were doing and they doubled down on that last night. Tony they seem overwhelmed. They seem not prepared. I get it. I don't get it because coming off with they've come off of the last two years where they got aced out and embarrassed then. This is a shock. I did not see this coming. I can see coming but not like this. Yeah so i mean. I know what lula morello would do these devils. He fired the change. Because it really. It can't be much worse. I mean they got beat soundly in one they got torched in two hardens. Not even out there. You know for brooklyn and you just say to yourself. Well what is going on here. Let's go to some individual players. Janta compo. I want to get the numbers right. He's a two time. Mvp he had eighteen thousand last night. What's that like. He's to pretend from the foul line so now we're talking about ben. Simmons land the second third best players. Chris middleton to holiday. They were lousy again in game. One they were thirteen to forty two. They shot better. this time. Brought middleton was minus. Thirty holiday was minus twenty seven. What are they doing. Blake griffin hasn't dunked in three years. And he's talking on screen. People both games tony i. This is when i heard several former recent former players in the longtime former players. Say you know what forget about practice. Go and sit down and talk this out figure out where you are and what the hell is gone wrong and this coach who is not known for rallying people in the main right. Obviously his team's always prepared to enter a season. They're prepared in an overarching way. What is he going to do. Is he the guy to even rally them and so tony. Wow this is the shock of the playoffs so far them getting torched like they are over in the west. The phoenix suns topped the denver nuggets in game. One chris paul when six for six in the fourth quarter de'andre aiden played nikolai yokich to draw throughout the game. So who was the more important son last night. Tone paul or eytan. Yeah the temptation is to go with the obvious answer which is crispell because as you say in the fourth quarter. He was six for six. I believe either scored or assisted again. Let's get the numbers right on twenty of the sons thirty four points in the decisive fourth quarter. But you're gonna pick crisp because he's your boys not my boy. I'm gonna pick eight because as you say. He held the guy that you voted for. Mvp yes. He held him down and let me give a little bit of credit here to the coaching staff of the phoenix suns. Because they saw with yokich to backup centers in portland in that series and so every time yokich was out there every minute every second eight and was out there with when yokich sat down eight and sat down when yokich went back in eight and went back in and not only did he need twenty three shots to get his twenty two points. He didn't go to long. All which means that eight and guarded him honestly. Now seldom young played great. He did and i'm not gonna argue against any of that. I've just not but if you watched the post game which means you have to be some kind of lunatic up. Awake like me watching from the west coast three hours to him. You hear the andrea eight and say as he did. Chris paul chris. Paul chris paul chris paul. 'cause i know the tutoring that goes on tony chris. Paul did this and put his arm around eight and sometime around the first day camp instead son and could be sunny so young. You're gonna listen to the omega. Listen to yoda. And chris. Paul tony eight and said that chris paul just being on the floor having the ball help calm him in the whole team down and it does and then that fourth tony phoenix was down. Nine right down. Nine and with chris paul just starting to light it up. The sons had sixteen zero run. I'm not saying they would lose the game without that run. I'm just saying yes the easy answer because the answer and it can always be the answer. Is chris paul everything eight does. He's improved on doing from his tutoring from chris. Paul period may just let me just put this in the biggest surprise eight. Yes holding yokich even yes Eager surprise big big not a surprise. No surprise right over an nfl tone. Aaron rodgers was a no show for the first day of packers. I guess it's a mandatory minicamp as opposed to optional minicamp. That's not unexpected either way. Br andrew brand sports illustrated tweeted quote. Packers will never admitted but they would be fine with aaron skipping minicamp and maybe some training camp close quote because that enables them to better jordan love who they drafted toner you with brand that. The packers are secretly.

"It's Paul Hamilton. I am. Here I go again. Alright, I'll be right there. I'm sorry I'm behind and I'm just not going to get caught up. So let's go to the West Irvine. You tried to get caught up in trying to get a trivia question together and put some clues together and do a little put a better forget it together. Kinda trivial Instant trivia. Yeah. Well, it's not really instant for me because I'm working on it. But, yes, instant hockey related instant trivia, and I think you guys will get it, But I just like to have some clues just in case. So we'll do that ate all three old 5 50 to join us. Miss Hamilton is standing by on the West. Her hotline and his segment on WJR is brought to you by equitable advisers. Planning for your future is about more than just money. Let equitable be your guided by. Relax, Sanda. Relax. We got this. We got Paul. Hi, Paul. Knew. How are you? I'm good man. How are you? I'm doing well. Um, I want to start with some of the stuff in your article. Jason Karmanos set a call yesterday as part of the end of the hammocks season and Paul we have an article wjr 5 50 dot com. Oh, by the way, One of the quotes in there had something to do from Carmen. Oh, she was the assistant chimp had something to do with getting a culture. He and Kevin Adams figuring out the culture and the identity of the club. He mentioned the coach is a big part of that. I'm I guess where to start the call. What should the identity of the club B has have those guys said anything about what they're trying to establish as the identity of the club? Well, I think it depends on who the coach is going to be. I mean, if it's going to be Granado, it's going to be a high paced, fast offensive type team. That, you know, try to spend a lot of time in the offensive zone and probably is going to give up more shots than maybe Ah, Ralph Krueger would like to have because you know, playing that way. Sometimes you're the other team's gonna Wind up comic transitioning and coming back at you so but everything with pace if it's done, Granado, that's what they'll be looking for. I don't think They're going to be like Lula. Morello is and it's like, well, you're going to coach this style. If you don't coach this style, you're not going to coach the New York Islanders type of thing. But so I think it's all going to depend on the coach. What kind of identity the team is going to have. Do You think it will be Granada? Would you put odds on this if you are ah, a betting man, And you don't make predictions. Paul, We don't ask you to pick games. But if you you know, just your feel for do you think that grotto has the inside track? Yes. I think he has the inside track on it. I think anybody being interviewed now, and they've done some interviews before the season ended. I mean, They're still doing interviews, and there might be some people they want interview. It's still playing right now. You know, in the Stanley Cup as an assistant coach, or or something like that, Um But, yeah, I think definitely Granados, the guy to beat and I think Adam's is pretty much indicated That and Karmanos is pretty much indicated that they want to go through the process. They want to make sure they have the best person for the job, No matter who it is. But you know, they both are very impressed with Don Coronado and it seems like he would have the inside track. Do you think Granted, this would not be something that would be, um You know the reason he gets the job, but it's Kevin Adams says they have toe. Reconnect with their fans. Do you think Toronto's ability to in the short time he was the coach? Connect. People reacted to him. People appreciated him and thought, at least you know the list. Dawson talkto us thought this is someone that I can understand the way he speaks. And you could. You could speak to this as well. The honesty that The guess the forthright nature of the way he talked and how his actions backed up his words. I wonder if it can. Kevin Adams has any value on that. Honestly, I think the way fans saw him communicate with the media and on zoom calls. I think maybe gives you a bit of a window and how he communicated with his team. I think it was forthright. I think it was honest. You know, uh, you know, I don't I don't think it was any, you know, fooling anybody. It's like, OK, this is the way we're going to do things. And this is how we feel you're playing. This is why Maybe your minutes have been reduced and teach Thompson's case for a couple of games. And this is why And basically, he said, This is the way it's gonna be. You know the You know you're gonna practice hard. If you don't you could play. You're gonna play hard and you know you're those types of things, so I think he had a firm hand with them, and it's kind of the way he came off in interviews, too, you know is It was for your firm. I It seemed like it was honest when he talked, and that's all you can ask for, you know, And if he didn't want to tell you something he would just say so. I'm I'm not gonna talk about that. You know, Okay. I can deal with that. That's fine. You know, I would rather a coach, church GM or somebody just tell me. I'm not going to comment on that. Or we're not gonna talk about injuries that way or whatever, then lie to me about it. Home, You know, to your point about Granado and the pace when it comes to these guys deciding who the coaches to their point about culture and identity. What do you think in your opinion? Would be the most important criteria to consider. Is it philosophical the paint? You know how you play the game? More up tempo, more attacking North South. Okay, you're going to give up shots, but you're going to get shot. You're going to get generate chances, or is it more? I wanted a next Erian's guy who's been on He's been head coach in the league before plenty of times. He's coached in playoff games before he's got a winning record stuff like that. I think of all that stuff will go into the decision. You know what kind of what? Of What is your career Been like? What is your coaching career Been like? Um, even look into people who have been on teams that this person has coached on. And get some input that way. Uh, You know, just because Adam's talked about he's talking to a lot of people more than just the candidates. I think he's talking to a lot of people about the candidates. You know, what have you seen from this coach? In what he's done, You might talk to some scouts who is one who have watched teams that this particular coaches coached. And talk about how organized are they? You know what kind of what kind of system are they? How did they react in certain situations When things are going well, how did they react when things aren't going well? Um, can they adjust to what's going on during the game? It's you know that the adjustments probably aren't as many as you would have in a football game. But they're still adjustments that you have to be ready for. Teams can all of a sudden have a different for checking system on you. Then they what they have done before and then you've got to adjust to what things are so those of the conversations that are going on and it's not necessarily just with the coaching candidate. Well, Do you have a preference? Whether you whether there's ah specific guy out there that you think would be good or whether it's the older veteran coach was to say a Granato, who might be more better suited, I should say to coach young team, Maybe it's AH, successful collegiate coach like the guy Providence, Nate Lehman, do you have a particular preference for is what they should do. Well, Don't forget Granado, one NHL coach of the year he won the championship. I believe it's the Kelly Cup in the East Coast League. S o. He has done been successful in his coaching career. Both the H L and the E..
