"I'm shocked. Again, I don't know what other response we can give to each other other than to say it's on no level from a rockies perspective, does it make sense? For a buster. And it's not as if, by the way, that there's an unlimited fund here where we can still go out and bring in Carlos Correa, bring back Trevor story. There's nothing about that that indicates they're actually going to use this as a pivot in their franchise's history to get better and better and better. Nothing. So again, it's like a one off that just doesn't currently make any sense. And I'm not certain that today or tomorrow or the next day we're going to hear a plan that explains it really well to all of us. I just don't. No. And from what I understand, dick montfort, the rocky's owner, front of these negotiations. Tip of the cap to Scott Boris Carl. He absolutely will find deals like this and it's a shocker. All right. Before we go, I want to talk about the American League. That was in Red Sox camp yesterday when they announced that Chris sale has a stress fracture of a rib, he is out indefinitely. They don't even know when he's going to pick up a baseball. Alex Cora is his job, but speaking very glass half full and talking about how, you know what? We've got other depth and the good thing is that Chris's arm is okay. This is within the context of the Yankees improving their defense, the J's yesterday, adding Matt Chapman, other moves to come. I think for these teams, but I'm really surprised that the Red Sox are not being more aggressive this off season. In fact, I thought Carl, when you really look at the numbers where they fell on Freddie Freeman, he would have been perfect for them. I get it. They've got young first baseman, but in terms of trying to win, knowing that JD Martinez is contract expires after this year. I mean, Freddie Freeman at that rate to help to try to win in the American League east would have made a ton of sense to me. 100%. And in that city, look, again, Freddie has established himself as somebody that's going to improve teams both on and off the field. And we went to a team that's got a lot of character already. Boston would have made a great deal of sense. I clearly thought the Red Sox would be more aggressive. Look, there's still a bunch of free agents out there. Let's say Luke Lloyd gets traded to the ace for a pitcher to the Red Sox then turn around and make a trade for Luke Voight and the other pitcher, the a's don't get in an effort to bolster both their first base right handed hitting infielder that they need, as well as a pitcher. Maybe, but your point's well taken and I love Alex and he looks really distinguished and dignified with that beard. But reality is the sale injury is a mystery. And again, this could be Clark Schmidt and peraza, I would keep one of Opie or peraza. That's sort of where I fall right now. I would do I would do peraza Voight and Luis heel for mattson. The Red Sox trade Adrian Gonzalez and Josh Beckett to the Dodgers in a complete fire sale. They're giving up. They're waving the white flag while it doesn't matter. It gives them the financial flexibility to sign 7 bad players in the 2013 off season Shane victorino who was never good again after 2013. Johnny gums, who would never get again after 2013, Mike Napoli, who was never good again after 2013. Koji O'Hara, who was never good again after 2013, and they all lined up to win the 2013 World Series. I am beyond done with Red Sox fans acting as if every time they get a magical break, it is the first time that ever happened. I'm not saying Red Sox fans aren't owed something. Red Sox fans and you're going to want to clip this Red Sox fans. Red Sox fans are a good fan base. They're very passionate about good winning baseball. And when they need to bring the noise, they do. That's good. They are, however, Teflon, nothing sticks to them, they feel no pain and they create their own pain for situations that don't merit pain. And they continue to be rewarded in differing cycles with championship ish endings and good mojo endings. And Yankee fans pour their heart and soul into this team and never end up with the ending. Not it's been it's been 12 years. The regime is the same, the players are different. The regime can reload up to a certain point and pull people together and end up in playoff esque scenarios and end up flatlining again when the moment is at its biggest and brightest. And like I said earlier, I can't wait to see who the Yankees acquire and sign this off season who ends up disappointing while the Red Sox sign or acquire a lesser option who ends up succeeding. That's what I can't wait to. How is Corey Seager going to fail? Is he gonna start swinging and missing more after we sign him? Has Trevor's story gonna fail. Is he gonna sign a 7 year contract and then start arguing with the New York media and then come down with plantar fasciitis? Like, what is the outcome? What's gonna happen? It's always exciting to see. Are the ink he's gonna trade Luke Voight within the American League and he's gonna end up hitting 47 homers for the Oakland a's next year while the Yankees have DJ le mayhew at first base hitting two 64 with 12 homers. Is that what's going to happen? That's pretty interesting. Are they going to trade geo Rochelle? Does somebody want him? And then we're going to go, we have enough infield death. We don't need you or shallow, and then Corey Seager and Andrew Velasquez are the left side of the infield by June. Is that what's going to happen? "And you bust your ass and you get the you get your boss the result that was and sometimes even exceed expectations. And then, you know, you just get a great, yeah, that's what you're supposed to do. So cool, no raise and no summer Fridays. Get back to your fucking desk. So you see how it affects the morale in the everyday workplace. Imagine if you're Luke Voight, who went on a two week terror and was they all player of the week and then just doesn't really play that much anymore. Imagine if you're Tyler wade, who's on an absolute who was on an absolute heater and he's watching glaber Torres just flat out suck. Like just weak kits can't feel and he's like, well, dude, I'm hitting four 50. Why can't I play a couple times a week? That'd be sick. So Aaron Boone's instinct, I don't know, once again, we could talk about how the front office has used him as a public. We could talk about how the front office has too much influence because that's a lot of the case with most of the rest of baseball. It's happened with the raise Dodgers fans, whether you love or hate Dave Roberts. I think Dave Roberts is a solid manager. I think that he is orchestrating a lot of what the front office wants and prefers and that's the best front office in baseball. So what they want and prefer is usually the right decision. The Yankees front office as we've seen over the last 5, 6 years is very flawed over relies on certain things. Doesn't really go after the obvious fits, which we've seen. How many times have you ever talked about Charlie Morton and Michael Brantley or whoever else who would have fit perfectly with the Yankees issues over the last three or four years? And they just don't do it. They just do something else. I don't know if it's like we said their quest to be the smartest guys in the room. But back to Aaron Boone, he just, I don't know if the Yankees have sucked that instinct out of him because he has to do so many things by the front office's book, but it is clear that Aaron Boone, whether it's him or not, has doesn't have the human element that we've talked about so many times that Alex Cora has pushing the right buttons with certain players, putting players in the right position to succeed. Once again, dude, like Albert, bray, you coming in yesterday. Albert Brady really not that great. Why are you putting him in a tough spot? He gives up 5 earned runs on four hits, like the guy has decent stuff. He's really not been able to put it together. And, you know, Yankees are down by three. It's the game isn't over, but like you're putting the kid in a position where it's like, all right, dude, stop the bleeding. Let's figure it out. Nope, okay, get show. We'll leave you on the mound. So just weird stuff that you look at and when the people will understand most people watching the TV think they know better. You're like, oh, why it doesn't matter what decisions made if it turns out wrong. Someone's gonna be like, oh, why'd you do that? It could have been it should have been this. It should have been, it should have been that. There have been an odd number of times this year where you are sitting there and you're like, but why is this happening? And you say it before it before the result happens, even if the result is something positive or if the result is something negative before the pitching changes made before the lineup changes made before the lineup card is before the lineup card actually takes the field when it's released, you're like, why is this what we're doing today?.

"For the blue jays to not be in the driver's seat in the al wildcard sir. Half game back and by all accounts are in the driver's seat. The red sox have lost a lot of ground to the blue jays. Yankees of course just lost four games to the blue jays. The blue jays are in the driver's seat and right now there's no excuse for them not to take over that spot now. This is the optimistic part of us talking when we say the blue jays have no excuse to lose anymore but it's true every part of their game is clicking and like you mentioned bryson standout to me from this series we had seen the success of the starting rotation before but to me. It's the hitting in late and close situations and the bullpen. Because all of these games it seemed like with the exception of maybe one you are tied or at least one run up going into like the seventh inning. But in every one of these games bluejays tacked on the seventh eighth and ninth. We saw the blue score. Four runs in the seventh eighth and ninth last night. I think they scored three runs in the last three innings on tuesdays gamer or wednesdays games so you have all these opportunities at the blue jays are getting that we've seen them screw up before and finally there's cashing in those those runs. Of course they also missed some key opportunities you have that game where they got eleven walks and they only scored what five runs. So you have these games where they didn't take advantage of all those opportunities but then that's where the bullpen comes in. That's where the strong starting pitching comes in. You don't have to take advantage of those opportunities. Bullpen is throwing zeros and for almost the entirety of this series. the bullpen was throwing. They didn't give up a single earned run until the ninth inning of yesterday's game of this series. Finally that was appears and of course we saw him come in struggle. Gave back to back solo shots to gary sanchez. In luke voight but besides that it was a spotless day a spotless series for the bullpen. And that's what's impressing me. The most we've always talked about the potential of this team if the bullpen just comes along does its part and we saw that in this series. We saw that to some extent. Not totally issues jens oakland of of course you have that game with the blue jays almost give up what was a lead so it wasn't always there but in this series against the yankees it was and that's part of the success for the blue jays and why they could win these close game so i think that was so impressive and yeah. They're getting reinforcements. Julian meriwether we haven't seen in pitch yet. But he's up in the majors now napier's and of course. He came back in the oakland series and we saw him. Have you know struggles. In his first outing. He was successful in a second hunting struck at the side and then now struggles again his third time out but again. It's just having those options having those hard-throwing guys those guys who can put out fires before you get to jordan romano that's really important in the bullpen. And i wanna ask you about jordan motto. Because at no point this season have we seen him come in into three consecutive games. But it looked like last night. The blue jays were preparing to to do so if pearson and knock on there that ninth inning. Do you think he should be used more aggressively as we head down the stretch through september through a postseason race i should the blue jays tried to push him push limits get get him into three consecutive games or since what they've done for the rest of the season has worked and we've had injury scares with romano in the past. Will He Ever Heat Up? Diagnosing Joey Gallo's Skid Since the Trade
"The goal here with Gallo was to lengthen the lineup and diversify the lineup. Left handed bat, he gives tough at bats and he's able to give protection to other guys in the lineup. Perhaps, I mean, it not perhaps. It is certainly paved the way for John Carlos Stanton Luke Voight and Aaron judge to be on the hot treats that they are on right now. And we're thankful for that. But a lot of fans have been sitting here saying, oh, dude, when Joey Gallo heats up, forget about it. Forget about it. This team's gonna be unstoppable. But we have no evidence of him heating up. So Anthony Rizzo heated up right upon his arrival in The Bronx. Made his statement. Singlehandedly, I will go out and say single handedly won that series against one that series sweep against the Marlins. Was it colossal reason for that? That kick started the Yankees incredible run throughout the month of August. But Joey Gallo has yet to really come on. I know we have that go ahead home run against the Mariners. That was an awesome moment to signature Yankee moments since coming over on the trade. But since then, he's grounded into three double plays. In four games, he didn't three double plays before, so it was Saturday Sunday Monday and Tuesday. Over the course of those four games, he grounded into three double plays. He grounded into three double plays in his previous 95 games with the rangers. What how does this how does this even happen? Before that, he grounded into 8 double plays in his previous 346 games. So bad luck, sure, but like, what? When is this gonna stop? So my question is and my doomsday question because I love asking these because I like seeing people freak out. Something I'd love to have Adam on here because this is where the discourse just gets really good. But we got to talk about a couple of things. A couple of things that are going to affect the Yankees down the stretch, stretch that are going to affect the Yankees in October that are going to affect the Yankees in the off season probably in 2022. Let's start with Luke Voight. What is going on with the management of Luke voigt? Or let's call it mismanagement because that's what it is. I don't know if it's Aaron Boone on the surface you have to blame a boon here. Why he's the manager, he makes the lineup cards. To our knowledge, I understand that largely nowadays front offices have more influence than they ever have. They tell the manager what to do. They tell the manager the matchups to play. They tell them what personnel to sit. That's just how it goes. Is Aaron Boone, that kind of puppet. The Yankees front office claims he's not. So if that's the case, then we're gonna simply have to blame the manager for not having void in the lineup more times than he should. Luke Voight won American League player of the week. It was two weeks ago now. It was last Monday. He was announced the winner of the player of the week. Before last night, the Yankees had played 8 games since he had won American League player of the week. Luke voigt had received 17 played appearances over those 8 games. That's two plate appearances per game. He started three out of the 8 games. And then pinch hit for the other ones or came in, it was mostly pinch hitting. Either way, like it can not be like this. This is the time to start pushing your gut. I don't know what the concern is. I think I don't know if the concern is they don't want, I mean, obviously, one of the concerns is they don't want Luke Voight playing first base, because Anthony Rizzo is much better defensively out there. I understand that. But guess what? Since Anthony Rizzo's come off the COVID injured list, this defense actually looked a little rusty and he's largely been bad on offense, save for an RBI double on a solo home run. This week. So. There is no excuse for the team not to not be able to make room for Voight in this lineup, especially when he was that hot of a hitter. He was hitting almost 500, he was OPS in like 1.2 something. It was absolutely out of this world and he was among the main reasons why the Yankees were able to rip off that 13 game win streak. So I don't know how you reward him with that much. Look, we've discussed previously. We know, we know there's not enough room for Luke Voight in this lineup on an everyday basis. But four or 5 times a week if you have 6 or 7 games in a week, that's not unreasonable..

I mean let's let's let's go down a rabbit hole in the fact that they resigned. Anthony rizzo and he goes back and he goes the first base There's an opportunity for glacier to not shift over. Who's on this team. He's going to be playing second base if they don't side anthony. Let's said they don't and they bring back luke voight you're gonna see a lot. More shifting around. He's probably going to play. First base. some You know a lot. Probably and then you'll have an opportunity to potentially go after a shortstop slide glacier over to second base because lemay who could play i play third. He could play second he can just kind of rotate around and i think that it will dictate it will be dictated by what is available and how the yankees proceed with for space one And then availability. We we know that. The market's coming up for shortstop there's gonna be a big market for shortstops. I still don't think that they should moving from gleyber. Glacier still has the. I think they should work with labor. I think labor has the ability and his defense to me has been better You know since the first two months of the season. I haven't really seen too many glaring things that have striven me nuts about him again i don't i don't take stock in that last. Play of the play from this weekend as something that was like so crucially bad that he doesn't have the ability to play defensive A defensive position. I didn't mind it Unfortunately the execution wasn't there so i think that they're going to stay with labor that that's not that's not going to change the fact of how he's going to be on this team but if he's going to second base it really just depends on what happens at first base. I think i don't think they're going to be moving. Glacier tours this position for someone like angelsen simmons. if you're gonna do not move his position and sign. Trevor story or seger i get it. And then you're making a long term commitment this shortstop koi seger trevor story and then glare your new position for the next ten years is second or is third but i don't think you do it as like a. We need a better shortstop for a year or two. Because then you're kind of in the same boat in two years. And i also don't think that if they don't so so you're you're scenario of. They don't sign rizzo they bring back loop point that allows lemay who to go to first base when needed. I don't think then gleyber becomes a rotation spot. He's still the starting shortstop unless they sign a shortstop. Well that had the point. I think if they don't sign a i ba resort they have coming back To first base one. It's an uncertain uncertain player..
