"Famously. Was it our colleague Luke Smith, who once said, I love it when causes utter rights the word famously before imparting a piece of information that nobody but him and half a dozen other people in the universe either know or give a toss about. But famously, 42, the answer to the ultimate question to life, the universe, and everything, joining me to discuss this and other pressing matters of moment, a two people for whom 42 is just a number or a piece of purloined intellectual property. You've already heard from a very angry and animated Matt Q and a hello to Mark Gallagher. I can only dream about being 41 or 42. These days, that's such a long time ago. It's accelerating into the dim and distant past. I hold on to the fact that Tom Cruise is my age, and Brad Pitt, who soon to star in a Formula One movie, he's within a couple of years with me. So there's life in the old dog yet. I think it's funny, isn't it? And you thought Louis Sheeran was cracking on a bit. He became the oldest child. What was he? 44 late in his late 40s, early 50s, Louis Sheeran, because I'm not so do me a favor and somebody will tell you Google it. Famously, a former dancer for hire for the ladies at the Monte Carlo. He was basically a gigolo, I was going to say it sounds like a polite way of saying he was a gigolo. And in fact, if you borrow a tabard and walk along the harbor at the monarch Grand Prix, you can touch his bust as you walk past the swimming pool, but anyhow, enough of Louis Chiron. For a while, Formula One was increasingly a young man's game. Max Verstappen hadn't even passed his driving test when he made his first appearance in a Formula One car. But now that's changing as teams pass up rookies in favor of older and more experienced drivers. In fact, there have even been rumors of 33 year old Daniel Ricciardo being parachuted into alpha Tori to replace Nick de vries himself no spring chicken at the venerable age of 28. So on for whom 28 is a little bit of a distance off, let alone 33 or 42, Matt Q has written a cover feature this month and you can explain why old guys rule. Thank you for commissioning me for my first GP racing cupboard feature. It's quite an honor. But you came up with quite a hard brief because we had to cover everything really in a remit from the crop of F two drivers that don't make it to F one to why there's like almost a bias towards older drivers now with the regulations and on top of that Alonso and Hamilton of the older drivers are exceptional, so it was no easy challenge to get it all condensed into the poultry word count you gave me cuddles, but when our managing editor gives me the word counts and I've written my brief which usually goes to a quarter of that word count and I think good luck getting all this in. Then I just send it to you anywhere and go right now it's your job. Absolutely. Absolutely. But yeah, so spoke to quite a few people and I'm not looking for too much praise and adulation from your colors, but as you should know there's quite a few voices that we didn't end up quoting just to sort of condense it and pick the best ones. So it was good to canvas quite a few opinions and yeah, what stood out really are that Alonso and Hamilton are the exceptional ones, mainly for their mindset yes there are mitigating factors now nutritions and physicians and whatever that means they can sort of rage against the dying of the light as it were, but just what's really come up is how modern F one sort of better eclipse the older drivers so the example I think I use quite early on and I'll try not to sort of give too much of the feature away so that people were don't go and buy it but obviously Mick Schumacher getting flicked by house because he snapped the car in half twice last season and came back with a repair bill from the MOT garage of a couple of million pounds and in a cost cap era. That's just when it's so congested in the midfield and that 2 million loses you a front wing and a tweaked floor edge or whatever. It's just, it's not a trade off that can be sort of swallowed just for a sake of particularly for hask going, well we'll wait in a couple of years and we'll take 10% of his salary when he's a world champion it's just not a compromise worth making anymore, so welcome back to Nico hulkenberg and there's a trend across the grid for that. So it worked out the average age and ever since I think it was at 1986 was sort of where it bottomed out and then since then it has been steadily creeping. Oh, sorry, I've got my wise cross. It is a creeping down consistently since 86 until you get to Verstappen's arrival. 2016, 2017, never since then we've been sort of gradually climbing back up. No major step changes for when Alonso leaves or comes back, but a gradual rise, one of the factors is all the drivers are getting older, so it's quite a detailed average age analysis based on how many days and years they were at every single race, so obviously the longer people stick around to older it's going to get, but definitely a more gradual trend up. That was good, although I noticed that unlike Alex kalinka, you didn't send in your mathematical workings out on a separate Excel spreadsheet. And I can do that. In that case, well, we're crediting other people. I credit you for the brilliant royalties in their 40s line and I messed their credit our good friend jowl at motor sports start to I think within 20 minutes ago, is this possible sent me the average age of the grid at all a thousand and however many Grand Prix in F one history. So what I do, what a guy. For an older person like myself, gosh, I keep mentioning my age. For an older person, this is myself having been around this sport for in a four decades. It is really quite something to see Fernando and Lewis performing as they are. I wasn't being rude a moment ago when you probably noticed I was looking off camera. I was just double checking what I remembering about Nigel. You know, Nigel Mansell and those sort of dying days of his career in his 40s. You know, been away from Formula One, had done the Indy car thing and come back again, you know, he had, you know, there was a kind of the sharing of the driver David Coulthard, and then there is a popping up at McLaren. And it was all a bit sad that petered out really in a very unhappy way, really. And you look at Fernando today and you think, wow, this is something else. My own view based on nothing other than being an observer of the sport, is that it did him a power of good to step away from Formula One for a time. It reminded him

"That day was spent covering the media Sessions giving it is the Thursday he's generally given over to media stuff, particularly for the drivers. I was interviewing Carlos Sainz in the media pen. It's turned up to the sessions for Kevin Magnussen and give this diner at Hass as well as Yuki tsunoda at alpha tauri. But the main part of my day was chasing down a fairly big news story, it turned into a fairly big news story. It's actually got a niche one that everybody got very, very upset about or very ritually about. And basically that is that it has emerged that after the Jeddah race, the FIA has opted to clamp down on the iconic and that is Christian Horner's word on the celebration activity that the winning team or teams, a team with a driver on the podium or perhaps even a smaller team celebrating a driver scoring a points paying result. Mechanics have done for decades now run across the pit lane climb up the pit wall and sort of wave generally celebrate their driver crossing the line. And now actually it turns out that's always been banned. It's never been allowed or certainly not been allowed since the FIA's international sporting code forbade it. However, it's just not been not been enforced and the teams have been allowed to get away with it, but after some scenes at the end of the Cheddar race last time out where the Red Bull mechanics and the Aston Martin mechanics were climbing up to celebrate Sergio Pérez, Max Verstappen and Fernando Alonso coming across the line. The FIA really didn't like those scenes. In particular, we were a bit ahead of the game of this on auto sport because I sort of found it so fascinating and spiked to various people about what was going on because there was a lot of speculation about whether this clampdown was just Melbourne specific because the pit bull is different here. It loads of big glass panels that everybody can see through so you literally can't climb up it, but no. This is a wider clampdown by the FIA led by their race director Neil's wittich. And essentially, what was going on was the FIA just became concerned at the mechanics high up leaning on the fence down the fence, folds away towards the track to stop any debris that might flick up from the cars if they're running it over or something falls off. Flying up and coming over the pit wall and potentially damaging people. And I'm told that their bank concern is actually with lots of people up there celebrating the end of the race. They're just not a 100% sure it can take the weight. So rather than risk anything, particularly grave happening because of course you can imagine a lot of people falling over the pit bull with a car operating at 200 miles an hour. It actually doesn't bear thinking about what can happen there. Yeah, there was quite a reaction to it. Lots of people feeling it's over regulation, it's a bit of a no fun police, things like that. And just a bit of a shame, really. I mean, I think it is a shame to lose those fantastic images, and obviously it's a shame for the mechanics because so few people in the world really get to be in that position of physically being right there to celebrate your driver coming across the line in a fantastic position, but ultimately it will be much more of a shame if somewhere to get someone to get really hurt or potentially even die. So ultimately, it's a safety thing these things have got to be respected. But anyway, yeah, my job auto sports is to sort of get stuck into the sporting side of things to do analysis, do lots of features, don't really tend to do a lot of news chasing, but I have to say, and I know it's going to sound extremely nerdy. It is the most exciting part of what we do, especially when you're ahead of the game, as I said, we were all the sites reporting that. It was just, yeah, it was just that it was really thrilling and sorted my jet lag right out. Also doing that also helping that was that I ran the track afterwards. And I looked really awful afterwards and stuff in the mirror down there. What the hell was going on? But yeah, bright red eyes, Bloodshot, goodness, man. It was terrible. Generally terrible anyway, but when I look in the mirror, but generally generally even more terrible at that time. However, it was I did observe it was nice to be running it in daylight this time as last year it was pitch blackness. When I was running, now that's because the race this year is actually two weeks earlier this time around and daylight savings is still in effect right now. That won't be the case on Sunday because the clocks are going back in Australia, which means I'll get an extra hour in bed, absolutely fantastic and what's really nice is that because it's autumn here, when I go back to the UK and the clock exchange in the autumn there, I'll get an extra hour in bed again. So there we go. Anyway, right. That's Thursday. I've waited on too much. Coming up very soon, part two of my travel diary. Hello again, it is Friday of the 2023 Australian Grand Prix, here's the second part of my travel diary, and my day started rather pleasantly. In fact, highly convivial, as I know, my former colleague Luke Smith would appreciate because it was he, who I had breakfast with at a cafe near my hotel, it was really nice actually just catching up with Luke, wishing you all the best in his new surroundings. And then we walk together into the track. It's about 20 minutes door to door from my hotel into the track all the way through saint Kilda. North through gate ten, the track already very, very busy, I'm told that Q's were building up at the access gates for the public from 7 30 a.m.,

"So <Speech_Male> <SpeakerChange> <Speech_Male> I think it was a pretty upbeat <Speech_Male> mood from LP and they've <Speech_Male> got obviously ocon <Speech_Male> and Pierre gasly now <Speech_Male> as their driver lineup. <Speech_Male> There was the inevitable <Speech_Male> question about all like <Speech_Male> you guys eager to get <Speech_Male> on. And <Speech_Male> guys, I want to say exactly what <Speech_Male> he said back because <Speech_Male> I can't. But he <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> was up to the <Speech_Male> effects of I've not seen <Speech_Male> you for three months and <Speech_Male> that's the first question you asked <Speech_Male> me, really. <Speech_Male> And it was <Speech_Male> quite funny, but <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> there are <Speech_Male> no good <Speech_Male> spot, I think. Again, they <Speech_Male> have their engine reliability <Speech_Male> issues last year, the water <Speech_Male> pump was very <Speech_Male> problematic for them. <Speech_Male> They've done a lot of work to <Speech_Male> fix that. Again, they're <Speech_Male> pretty Compton about <Speech_Male> the running on the diner <Speech_Male> that they've done. <Speech_Male> They've got, I think, a really <Speech_Male> exciting driver line up <Speech_Male> two very good <Speech_Male> drivers there with ocon <Speech_Male> and gastly, I think it would <Speech_Male> be very well balanced. <Speech_Male> And yeah, <Speech_Male> I think that for our <Speech_Male> peen, it was <Speech_Male> an evening <Speech_Male> where a lot of it was <Speech_Male> about, as you said, the <Speech_Male> race, her program, which is <Speech_Male> fantastic. It was <Speech_Male> about Zinedine Zidane, <Speech_Male> becoming their new <Speech_Male> ambassador. <Speech_Male> But underneath <Speech_Male> all of that, I think that <Speech_Male> really the car <Speech_Male> does sound, <Speech_Male> it does sound like they're in a <Speech_Male> good point, <Speech_Male> particularly compared to this <Speech_Male> time last year. So <Speech_Male> I think if they can <Speech_Male> start the season stronger, <Speech_Male> they'll put them in a <Speech_Male> really good spot when it comes <Speech_Male> to that fight <Speech_Male> to be topping <SpeakerChange> the midfield. <Speech_Male> Well, that's our look <Speech_Male> back at launch season. <Speech_Male> We haven't got a weight now <Speech_Male> along until <Speech_Male> Bahrain testing <Speech_Male> is here. You'll be jumping on <Speech_Male> a plane and <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> sadly, we won't <Speech_Male> be hearing from you on this <Speech_Male> podcast, but <Speech_Male> fans of <Speech_Male> what you do <Speech_Male> will still be <Speech_Male> able to <Speech_Male> follow you. <Speech_Male> I can say no <Speech_Male> more. I don't do it very <Speech_Male> well or very frequently, <Speech_Male> but <Speech_Male> yeah, <Speech_Male> that's where you can keep up with <Speech_Male> me and yeah, <Speech_Male> I guess just <Speech_Male> finally to <Speech_Male> just say, again, thank you <Speech_Male> so much to <Speech_Male> everybody to everyone at <Speech_Male> autosport. You've all been <Speech_Male> absolutely amazing <Speech_Male> friends and colleagues <Speech_Male> and I'm going to <Speech_Male> miss you all so so <Speech_Male> so much. <Speech_Male> To <Speech_Male> all the podcast listeners, <Speech_Male> thank you so much <Speech_Male> for <Speech_Male> listening to my <Speech_Male> thoughts and <Speech_Male> ramblings over the past <Speech_Male> three years <Speech_Male> and yeah, <Speech_Male> I'm really excited <Speech_Male> for the next <Speech_Male> chapter. I'm <Speech_Male> going to keep <Speech_Male> bringing people fantastic <Speech_Male> coverage from <Speech_Male> the paddock. <Speech_Male> I hope it's still fantastic <Speech_Male> coverage. Obviously, <Speech_Male> but I'm <Speech_Male> going to be there. <Speech_Male> It's going to <Speech_Male> be a different <Speech_Male> <Speech_Male> set of colors for me. <Speech_Male> So I would speak, but <Speech_Male> I'm <Speech_Male> excited for it. <Speech_Male> But also <Speech_Male> sport has said, it's unmatched <Speech_Male> by anything else <Speech_Male> in motor sport media. <Speech_Male> And <Speech_Male> I'm <Speech_Male> just so excited to see what <Speech_Male> all of you guys go <Speech_Male> on to do. And <Speech_Male> yeah, we're still going to be seeing <Speech_Male> lots of each other, I know. <Speech_Male> Our paths are going to <Speech_Music_Male> keep crossing. So <Speech_Music_Male> <Advertisement> yeah, I'm really <Speech_Music_Male> <Advertisement> excited to see what's next for <Speech_Music_Male> <Advertisement> auto sport, but <Speech_Music_Male> <Advertisement> <Speech_Music_Male> <Advertisement> thanks so much. <Speech_Music_Male> <Advertisement> <Speech_Music_Male> <Advertisement> I <Laughter> got a go. <SpeakerChange> <Speech_Male> Very sad, but <Speech_Male> also very happy. <Speech_Male> Luke, thank you so much. "News gary. You know what i mean. Good news for a change. I think yes yes absolutely. Yes no sometimes. Sometimes these things are just self evident. What do you say. that's not good news. Good news exactly exactly right. I think it is great news. It's nice to do that. You know like how much money are they gonna make on that patent that they really want to keep that locked in right. Correct me if you're on your own and the seems like something you know. It definitely seems like something. Kevin window which company invented seatbelts. Or whatever invented the crossover seatbelt and then just made never patent it. They're like everybody take. This is going to save lives. That's a good way to do it. Yes gary we need to invent something and then dominate but then make money off of it. Nothing lifesaving we're not gonna make a vaccine or something most of the point. If you don't make your money paid again. Played looked it up greg. It was volvo thank you. Yeah good offhand. Knowledge that kevin would absolutely had so. I did some research because we to rewatch that commercial. Joan van damme did the did the splits between those two trucks. Remember that remember that but did he really do at that time. Because he's old now right. It looks really did it as a whole behind the scenes video about how they shot it like it was all jet. It's all in camera. No visual effects. Let's get to number three here on the rope report. It's about the destiny stuff that is happening. Like i said there's a destiny Thing going on right now for the old witch or something like that. Looks like destiny stuff leaked before this event. But maybe it's live now. And i can confirm it at some point. But i'm gonna read over here playstation store listening for destiny. Twos new witch queen expansion has seemingly spoiled bundy's big surprise announcement today ahead of the big witch queen showcase event eliciting. The expansion was published on the australian playstation store in a reveals the release date new gameplay information preorder among other things true trophies. Viewed the listening. It has all the details. The released is going to be february. Twenty-second twenty twenty two or two twenty two twenty two. According to leak the date shown in listings actually february twenty third which some remarked was odd. Because that's a wednesday when destiny to normally updates on tuesdays but this could be due to the fact that it's an australian listing listening also reveals which queens setting savant funds thrown world. The page also mentions how the expansion will take players in two savant throne room world to uncover the mystery of how she and her loose and stole the light. A new weapon type. I'm jones and go to sifaw throne room one more time for me greg. Oftens growth owner of. I'm making you say it over and over again just to make chat really mad. The chat super pitch. They're saying Foon but to that that you call yourself paris we welcome. He's about he's probably right now. Backstage at the xbox games com conference getting ready the x. gas parris lilly. hello paris. hey. I literally told xbox told phil we gotta hold on just a second. I gotta jump into kind of funny daily. Because i hear you talking about destiny and i know both of your destiny noobs so i i had the platinum undetonated. Another by played at quite just didn't go back. That's my point. I'm still a no. Gee i still play my. I just watched the whole which queen thing and i wanna say it's year seven and this is probably the best that destiny is ever been all the content. That's coming all the changes that they're going to do for the witch queen. I'm just as excited now. As i was back in two thousand fourteen so credit the bungee and just everything that they've done to state. It's a roller coaster. Not everything's going to be perfect. But they stayed on the path and they continued to invest in this game. And i think we're about to see this culmination in february twenty twenty two with the witch queen where they have a plan they have a roadmap they have content that hardcore people. Like me about the fact that we're going to have a dungeon or raid every three months to be able to do on the way that they've evolved. The story with the seasons were seeing. You know there. There's the west weapon crafting. Now you know you got trans mog with armor just all. These things are doing the really starting to push destiny towards being an mmorpg's which for people like need. This is all ever wanted. I i got us. I am not a destiny expert anymore. I played it quite a bit when it first came out. I haven't played in years So i don't. I don't know what they've done recently or how they're doing it. I just know that. Just from the what. I'm seeing from the outside looking. In bungee the fact the fact that like seven years in and the game is still relevant and still going strong and his parents are saying arguably better than ever ban it does seem like bungee. Whatever is they're doing. They are showing their laying down a road map. Like this is how you do it guys for every light division anthem game as a service. Wannabe that's out. There bungee seemed like they've as close as you're going to get into very difficult jeunet to crack to cracking how you keep a game relevant over multiple years yeah. I think that's what we were having. I'm having a laugh. Obviously because it's one of those where. I don't even think you can come in and act gary and i couldn't win. Never would we wanna act like we understand where destiny's at right now and what people want from it so i was going to deliver the news for sure but if you want to dial it back to your point of like it's fucking incredible what they've done and united. We had a great conversation where we have cooled friends right Jesus studio so must have been two thousand nineteen twenty eighteen or twenty nineteen twenty where luke smith came on and talked about everything and the fact that it's been able to go like this. The fact is still going that it had so many people watching it. Today i wanna policies tweets from thirty one minutes ago while tassie from forbes of course twenty million new guardians since the activision split the activists not life to date since they broke up with activation. That's crazy you got. I got to say good. Because i know you're a fan. This has got to make you excited for where veggies is going to be in seven years right hundred percent one of those things as it shows that you know in the same way you and i are waking up today gary going man destiny. We should give that another look eventually. Paris is going to do that with avengers. He's going to look at it and go. you know what. That's what i should be playing right now and the long game would avenge is like just you wait. Give me five more years at a vengeance. free more. here's by spa. Waiting.

Okay right on so great reviews of lennox de stroz and lennox desktops not just tolerant went on the energy but more tradit- law desktops wealth For the most part Though he does occasionally express political views he believes in keeping politics out of the free and open source software movement. He's part of there. Seems to be accepted which i'll betcha bet. Okay so we're gonna get to what i don't like occasionally has political leanings. Do come out which i mean. I'm fine with political leanings. Coming out i might not agree with the but sometimes it's a little distracting. I think but at the same time. I do think he's more said skull than like someone like luke smith He seems to be libertarian. But not far right like luke smith might be now Libertarians are kind of funny thing. as there are some and he seemed to be someone regarded like cova. He's like believe the science had sub. Libertarians are not like that some were like no. I'm trashing the mask. And i'm not getting a vaccine. You know the the problem with like you know with. I think when you try to like i. Guess group people into certain groups based on the political views because someone's libertarian republican or democrat or green. Or whatever doesn't mean they all have the same political views just means that they support the space. This latest support the same party. Yeah i know you know you can be republican and you can. You could get could be just an old person you just. Yeah and i'm gonna give Destructive this he's like you do not have to like toe the party line on everything. He said that it's like yeah just because you have liberal doesn't mean you have to agree with every single thing that the democrat i'm gonna give him that He did a video sade. Free and open source software outfits should also be advocates for gun rights and be against gun control but those are two entirely different things you know and no one's going into elementary schools and killing children with open source software or windows for that matter of course. Yeah of course. He's a huge open source software. Freaky let's get people off with those. You know pirka. Yes and quite frankly. I think i've become more of that too. I'd like i would prefer people dot using wedel. But that's because. I just know about all the privacy concerns about but that's a different story well not totally different but whatever Yeah so yeah. He did that video. But that's possible. The video may have been done to k kind of trau- people then kind of like maybe weed out. The people who walked let past has political ideologies know. Okay yeah that's a very good possibility or like the my ought to have people who would have a serious conversation rather than just people who just like stop listened to because he disagreed. Yadda i gotcha. Yeah that's why i think you know. I still like as videos. Even though i wasn't crazy about that one. That's like me like i used to. A lot of podcasts So much anymore. 'cause my job but back when i was cooking whereas working amazon podcasts. Always listen to adam crow crow. He's pretty conservative himself. But you know. I thought he was funny. And and someone has different political views and myself as an can't find them entertaining you know. Yeah and he yeah. He has had times where he didn't research the for video at gave information for example when he said the gates hall for the arch user positive was no longer be maintained. When at fact that was he was telling people about another told stabbed peru. I think was peru and so he's like his peru instead but cubs find out. the tall was still maintained after all the via sometimes he gives advice that might be bad. For example. Recently heat suggested cd's dvd's at blue raise for long term. Archival storage. Another youtuber brody. Roberts said just a video today The banking that he talked about why it's a bad idea. And he mentioned. Those formats are subject to describe. So yeah i. I mean i have. But that's because it happens floppy dusk it will happen to your cd's dvd's a blue rays. Over time. ed. So i think a lot of it is if you have exposed to lie for a long time i guess i mean i feel like i mean i guess it's possible but like i've listened to like old. Cb's obsolete as long as they're not to scratched up or nothing like fbi care of them may not be as subject to describe but eventually at well suffer that same thing up and he does so. That's something he didn't take into account their search.

"Used to look at Was linus tech tips occasionally. He's pretty interesting thought. Yeah he's not strictly lennox cage he does talk about lennox and lately. He's been talking about it more of a positive light to so yeah Some of these lennox youtube channels out there horrible audio quality and some might be speaking with a foreign accent and nothing against that. It's not my intention sound nationalistic racist but for me an accent could sometimes be too strong. Be to understand. Antonio joe agree. Say so i mean. I think like i don't really watch too many youtube channels with like or an accents. But you know sometimes you talking to the customer service. Sometimes i have trouble understanding some people get the. I don't think that makes you sound racist. Just did not use to hearing a certain accent. It can be difficult to understand what they're saying. Yeah i'll be look it up a specific topic relating to lennox and i'll come across these videos that their accents are so thick i can't understand them at all or they're the subtitles on her. They usually have available sometime. They did about those. Youtube subtitles are not perfect by any means. I think the kind of funny subsets Now with some work. And i'm speaking as someone who's had speech therapy myself growing up. A content creator with an accent can make themselves more understandable takes work and even with the english language while some people don't always speak clearly but there that's another subject for another time and not really for this channel or whatever so Part of the cargo criteria for this is i can actually understand what speed said of the videos and also having a good quality of audio not perfect quality because sometimes these youtubers have hit or miss audio quality bullets well enough that i could still understand them. Gotcha and i'm going to start with my least favorite of these and Somewhat problematic because there's some videos of his. I like but then he doesn't talk about lennox all the time and then sometimes when he does bring like religion and politics at some of it too so and that's like far right politics and i've made it clear a very liberal guy but i don't bring politics too much should to this podcast and i think i mean that's i was moves like some people like they're really passionate about their political views. So gotta talk about them. But yeah i feel i feel like for the most part. You say pretty Bipartisan around here. Yeah this podcast is not about politics. I mean we might get politics a little especially politics regarding say up at source software free software that is a political subject something that actually spans both right and left. We have a open source. Software advocates or free and open source software ag. Acquited sites should say both sides of the spectrum. Okay yeah so this first one. I'm going to talk about. It's a guy named luke smith. He's a programmer. Who makes Videos of both youtube and odyssey. We've uploaded in the past Podcast episodes odyssey as well. But i've not putting anything lately because Back at the time it was a library dot tv. And they were said by the sec. We are earning. The library tokens. I cashed that out already. Okay yeah that was before you really the podcast into audio gotcha so That is Something that we haven't been on for a while. I thought about putting stuff up there again. But i don't know about the future because of the sec sui library Dot tv and now. But that's a different story. Most of these people upload to youtube ebb odyssey by the way so look speth does that. He's a big proponent of the dwi window manager which has talent window manager and the creator of. I can't remember what barb stands for. But basically install doc files or configuration files. Running suck lous software on architects lennox so software. Okay yeah definitely so you're member cyclist being mentioned when we were talking about alternative web browsers. Okay yeah so like sir. Yeah okay. What i like. He has great videos on terminal programs as well as tiling window managers he was on night three four wild than he switched to I can't remember who. Fee i switch to be p. Wm i or just went straight to. Dwi my thinking went straight to the wm. If i remember correctly okay. But he's a huge proponent of that but it gets kind of elitist about that. Nal explain that in a bit What i don't like he uses a lot of language used by people on the far right these days such as soy and even uses the term soil wear for software that he doesn't like and also he uses a lot of memes. That are popular with the far-right such as paid the frog right I dunno zafar right knee at didn't again that way but sped 'associated With a far more in more recent years okay. Yeah and we won't get too much. That i know the david pacman show has talked about it a bit The guardian even says the smith has promoted far right political ideology and smith even preaches. A war against the modern world pretty much Read a luddite or something. I guess i'll know. Read editors have said luke smith as a white supremacist. And i haven't found anything to confirm that quite But i have blotches all his video. So i think it's one of those things that kinda like all conservatives kinda get lumped into like your conservative than you must be like supremacist dislike. I feel like a lotta times like liberals Jumped into light certain groups to possibly. But i need to do sabar watching of his videos of this before i can really make a judgment call but.

"Best segments discussions. Skip shannon let's go. how about. This skips clippers. Won't be joining the lakers. Within early playoff exit. Thanks to twenty points from quiet. And twenty. Two from paul george. The clippers also shot an impressive twenty four for twenty four from the free throw line in the one twenty six to one eleven win over the mavericks to complete their series comeback. After being down three two they gotta done fox sports nba analysts. Stephen jackson is joining us now. Stephen i gotta ask about this one. How surprised were you. The clippers came back to win. Well one thing about me. I'm a guy that's not surprised by the things happening playoffs. Obviously beat the one seed in the first round so anything can happen. And it's about making adjustments. The clippers made the best adjustments after game. Five six or seven made a lot of judgments they were able to win the game That is not that talented they have a lucas great but everybody else no team has average. Kp is really been planned average. Even though he's a hundred dollar players a lot of parents making a hundred dollars in the league Stars that are not on the court they don't show and so luke was basically out there by himself the whole series and he is great but in order to win the series. You need more any detainee other players to step up. You can do regular season. You can't do that in the playoffs. A kudos and a product the title. He made some great adjustments. And this point. Cash from the clippers team really stepped up a game and sixty seven. So you gotta give props for stepping up and stepping up to the tries to get the job done thank you. You mentioned the address. Miss the judgment that they made that late. The ball game. Say we don't get the ball out of of hand. We gonna make his role players. We're gonna make hardaway junior gonna finished meal. We gotta make kluber. We're gonna make someone other than luka beatles. If for whatever reason rick carlisle seemed to be unwilling to do that in game six because he let kuwa- operate one one for the entirety of the fourth quarter. Even though he saw why had it going. Okay was i see a guy got it. Going law will get the ball at your hands out going to make these other guys last night. The other guy did do even though quiet going. You look at marcus morris. Ties steph curry for the most made three and a game you look at reggie jackson terrorist man had thirteen points in the first half links between with putting them all on the floor going to the real wt. Dominique wilkins are three days. Peeved that he comes in here. Three or five threes in. That's the difference in the ball game. You mentioned it. I know what luke gonna give me. He gave me thirty five and a half ten point three eight rebounds. I know that okay. What about the other guys yesterday. He beats me not of eighteen from everybody else. Not named luke. Smith one of eighteen from three. You're not beating this team. The clippers get back yesterday what they had been all year. They were the best three point shooting team. They proved that yesterday there. The best free throw percentage shooting team in history so they proved in his thank. You know what. I'm saying when you leave something. Can i call on it. Were they needed those three justin. They needed that free. Throw percentage and they were able to get it so for me. It was all about the role. Because i know kuwa- kawai sensational in this with bible. One games skip the quarter. He missed a couple of shots but he will sensational gave. You won't find bury their mini playoff performances. Better than kawass game six lucas toll for total winning but luca supporting cast didn't give him the counter. Backups thing that wild. They're not at all. okay back to my man. Stephen jackson makes a very profound point. Stephen is saying he wasn't that impressed. Because the clippers finally did what they should have done to start with. Well that was my point from the start. I was outta my mind sitting in this seat. Because they blew game one and they blew game two at all. The clippers are the best team in the west. I told you this all year jeff. Van gundy kept saying the most talented team in the west. They're the deepest team in pro basketball to me. They're deeper than even the nets are but they didn't play that way in games one and two an early in game three on that fateful friday night they fall behind thirty to eleven before a mad house sellout crowd in dallas as the mavericks are making every three they look at. They made thirty five of seventy. Three's in the first two games at staples and and then they go home and make twenty in game three. No team in the history of this league has ever lost a home playoff game making twenty three. But they did because the clippers finally said. That's enough watch this. And it started with kawhi and pandemic p went along for the ride and he had some stretches but he did a lot whole lot of good stuff because when it comes to make him free throws assisting the basketball rebounding the basketball. He does a lot of dirty work for that team. That that is irreplaceable. Less talented you can rip and slashing all you want you can ridicule him but even yesterday when he went one for nine in the second half that you look at the overall numbers. He made all ten of his free throws and had ten rebounds. I'm sorry tennessee says right. That's that's gold in a game seven so in the end. These clippers showed me some true grit. I didn't think they had. They actually showed me some heart. Some guts and some stamina. I did not think they had because the world ridicules them as the ugly step children living down in the basement a staple center yet yesterday at staples. I thought they turn into the lakers. Because everything that they did. At the highest level during the regular season came to fruition. Yesterday there are the best three-point shooting team and they outshot dallas twenty two from three. That'll work and they're the best free throw shooting team in the history of the league and look what they did. They were plus thirteen at the frequent plus forty three points from three and free throws. That's who they are and what they did yesterday so it wore me out. I'm still exhaust this morning from there. The most frustrating team to watch that. I've ever tried to figure out but in the end they look like a team that can win it all to me. Let me identity. you know. it's never too late to happenings. Dot declared shannon. It's it's never too late. The playoffs anything can happen. When you start to clinch the places the perfect time. I think they're starting to find the identity. I got started buying their rose when they're going get shots but this is the perfect time with todd. Been a been a a coach and a champion. He understands the justice. You have to make round-by-round dip level basketball each round of nasty ball and and it doesn't matter how how how tough the first round was when you get out of it. It's about round to knowing whereabout the first round stay six six eight six seven and a half. Okay so you think seven you gotta find nine guy playing behind you. Why the hell you shooting three. What when you get on the block. Christopher zinc is seven three inches tall. Why but to paul george. Marcus morris plays behind him but he wants to hover around the three point land toward tall but down on the block. Turn around his shoot over the top of them. Why was that so hard for you. Nikki unicorn unicor. there's nothing unique about christoper's acres. He's seven point three any plays like he plays like a two guard. That six that wants to shoot three pointers thirteen. Thousand points is not a score to some people but to me. It was like and i wouldn't. I wouldn't have this assess. Obviously i wouldn't have in my career. Steve's live when they told me my third career my third year my career. You can shoot threes. you're gonna have to get on that block to be success but have a successful career. And he told me that. I i was to guard so i was bigger than a lotta to guard. Six shannon. right. Oh he said he's seven foot. You got exposed guys who you've gotta take a better. Your size and kp is definitely not doing that. These are big guys play small. That's the worst that you can have. A guy is tall that place mall. because he's seven put three. They got they plan behind him nichols between is playing behind it. They gotta be fixing so he's giving up with thick theban inches and he liked the shooting jacket up. Threes can come down.

But it was Super Bowl Sunday and lots of folks for weighing in on just what the heck happened How Kansas City was just completely shut down there. Yeah, I mean, you got to give Terry I don't mean Tom Brady. Yeah, he was the m V P, I guess and in name and that kind of thing. But Todd Bowles was the M V p last night because he coached and had a masterful game plan against that Kansas City offense, and I know They were, You know they were they were the line wasn't that you know, wasn't what it had been early in the season or throughout the season, but still the pressure that they got on Patrick Mahomes. And you saw he still made place. But still it got it affected him enough innit effect that the other guys enough that what tied bowls created with the game plan? I fought one the Tampa Bay the game last night. But if you put two guys on Tyree kill on every play, somebody's gotta be open. I mean, it just seems like they were masterful and mixing it up and confusing Kansas City offensives, treachery. It was. It was confusing more than anything if you Yeah, if you watched it and you looked at it, they had two guys on him, but it was a different way that they did it and they will the way they bracket at the the other guys. And that's why that's why Travis Kelsey was able T o to have a couple of those drives where it seemed like, Okay, Here's where they're gonna kind of take over because they're just gonna feed Travis Kelsey. And then for whatever reason. The Chiefs would get confused on the next couple of plays and be like, Where did Travis Kelsey go? Well, he's right there. It just the way it was. It was. It was a very masterful plan by Tide bowls and executed very well by those guys on that defensive front. And I mean to tell you, by the way, Shack Barrett, an undrafted free agent. Well, when he when he came out of college, and I thought Of all the guys I know Devon White had a great game, but I'd like shock. There was the biggest difference last night, putting pressure on there that Patrick Mahomes even sideways. Even horizontal, was able to throw a laser into the end zone and hits a guy in a face mask. I can't hold on. Kelsey dropped a couple of passes. It was just fascinating on so many fronts. It totally wa so I would have never in a million years wagered that the outcome would have been what the outcome was last night. But I can tell you this. I think a lot of people if you're drunk fan, you've probably won some money because he was a pretty good price. Now you just to catch a touchdown, But I can't imagine what it would have been to catch two touchdown passes. So if you're a drunk fan, and you made any wagers you probably made Ah little bit of money last night. "And not only are you seeing kind of the celebrity influences who look very kind of stereotypical, attractive you also seeing your friends who also at themselves in the very attracted to then you compare yourself in your Oh, I look terrible. Look at me now, you know, and then it just goes into the cycle. So the fact that more people using social media during the pandemic because nothing else to do means that people are feeling worse about themselves because we already know that social media has a really negative impact on body image. S so like you said earlier like it's super complex because it's so many things going on anyway on. Unfortunately, they all come together to put pressure on people. Maybe people feel like they're you know, they're not attractive enough. They're not good enough. That body's changing too much. And I mean, there's so many things to talk about. I was gonna talk about social media after you know, sort of the zoom, But I want to focus on this to this actually seems like a good way to start it. I mean, not only are so many of us on social media and is the only way we were relying. I mean, I am meeting you. Yeah. Dr Luke Smith. I know nothing about you. And here I am. I'm meeting you and getting to know you via, you know. Elektronik platform is the only thing that we have, and I obviously Dad's exacerbating it because even if you don't want to be on social media, you'd be there is no alternative. And can you talk about how That in the past, even if we were on social media lot you would you could balance it with you'd still go to the supermarket. You'd still go for walk. You go to a concert. You go toe community event. Whatever was you'd go to your church or religious affiliation and you would see people in person you would see Hundreds of body types and people looking different, though you know, having positive interactions. I don't have any of that anymore. All I have is the social media interaction or nothing. Those are my only choices, so there's nothing to balance it off, subconsciously in my brain. Yeah, exactly. That's exactly what you just said. And I think I know what you say. I really like that about how you see people who look differently. Actually having a lot of our body image programs. We have an exercise where we purposely make people go sit in a cafe say, and we get them to kind of purposely. They have toe watch the 10 people that happened to walk past them so they can select to be compared them. You know how you do someone goes are you know you look at that person because they look really attractive and then or whatever, because the point is, you want to show people that actually when you just want Much every Tom, Dick and Harry that looks past you. Everybody looks completely different. There is diversity, but then, like you said, when you shift it, social media there are such kind of narrow parents ideals, you know, And I also think we need to think about what they become. Not so back in the day when Facebook first But then that was, you know, let's say for college university students. Onto communicating, you know, sending messages? Yes, photos as well. But now thinking about the platforms we have, like Snapchat instagram, or what's the new one that ever all the kids use? I can't lift your keys in the other room. But she wrote she is it six tac Tic tac? Yes, I'm she. She's doing a dance right now. I'm sure. Instead of being so think about and even on these, the Karen right, The word limit is limited to the whole thing is, it puts the focus on the image on said That's why, because the platforms of change and they've evolved. There's even more focus and how they look because you have built which is available like some kids, will you snatch out and they wouldn't even have known that they could do those things. Those things Faces, you know that they could add some eyelashes that they could cost me about the complexions add freckled, and I think if you're let's say your your teenage girl and you're going through puberty and you have spots and that's very, very natural, right. Have we all went through it. Some people still are. You know for that Dutch then see her face fairly smooth. Of course she's gonna you know is gonna make her feel better to put that photo up there. But then think about the impact it has on her friend. And then obviously we could use. Oh, yeah, exactly what you said it like any impact on her. I mean, I don't want to My my, my lovely daughter who's in the next room, But she's 14 years old, and she has a complexion. Looks like a 14 year old. And if she were actually to put a picture of herself with clear face, not only would that have an impact on her friends impact on her. Oh, this is where it should look like. Oh, don't let anyone take a picture of me. I don't look pretty at this moment or can Don't post that picture Mom until I put the filter on it. I mean, she's single. I'm what's really interesting finding is that might surprise you, but actually the people who post the most sensation major, the people who frequently put photos on of themselves, the ones we get validation. You have the comments saying, Oh, you look gorgeous, babe, and you look beautiful. Whatever fire is actually those people who have worse body image. People. Oh, they're constantly getting positive reinforcement on again because it taps into this whole thing of you know, the investment is so invested in their parents and we've heard from teenagers actually, by your daughter's. There's not always dragging your daughter into war there. Yes, friend Grover. Yes, sir. They've told us how when they use instagram, they're very tactical about how they use it. So if they post the photo, and if they haven't had any likes or comments say after 24 hours, they delete it. You know, there's so much thought that goes behind what these young people post modern during the reponse the community response to it. You're saying I didn't even think about that? Yeah, And that's why Facebook have removed so they haven't removed comments that they removed the number of like so nobody could see how many likes you got. But you can see, But the problem is, I still makes you feel bad because Do you see you and you got to like you feel bad about yourself? So unfortunately, essentially what we know is the more time you spend on state media. The more time you spend on your photos, the more you edit your photos, even if you get nice comments kind of the more invested in your parents, you are to the more It's going to kind of determine your self esteem, which obviously isn't what we want, because then it all becomes about your parents. Talking right while with Dr Helena Louis Smith. She's a senior reaches fellow at the center for appearance Research at the University of the West of England.
