The earth was moving outside of Friday harbor this morning. Not a lot though, you probably didn't even feel it if you were there, a magnitude 2.8 earthquake hit, the San Juan islands around three 35 in the morning. We haven't heard of anything breaking, no major damage, no injuries or anything like that. You wanted the best, you got the best, the hottest band in the world Kiss. "Sunday Night baseball and also play by play on college basketball during the course of the winner. So Ravi, thanks for making some time for us between stops that you have today. My pleasure. I am sitting in an airport in Charlotte right now after the number one team in the land last night lost. We had Tennessee beat Alabama on the home court in Knoxville, Tennessee. So we are looking forward to the clashing of baseball buster and college basketball with the SEC tournament, but of course spring training games. We got a couple of those and then the regular season. Very, very good time of year. Very fortunate. Yeah, I got to say when you tell me about Tennessee number one team losing as a Vanderbilt graduate, I'm not broken hearted. I'm just going to put that out there. I can't say that a lot of well of sadness came up within me. I don't want to burst your bubble. They beat the number one team. Tennessee wasn't the one thing they were the team that beat the number one team. Okay. Now I am broken hearted. Okay. I appreciate it. Yeah, while you were doing that last night, we were digging through some of these rule changes and we'll get to those in a second. But we got a string of injury news yesterday and I love doing this where you apply the scale of one to ten on where you put the level of concern about these injuries. So I'm going to throw the match, let's start out in Yankees camp yesterday, Aaron Boone announced that Frankie montas who, of course, was their big acquisition midseason last year. He's going to undergo what essentially he's going to be exploratory surgery on his shoulder. He could miss the entire year, scale of one to ten, concern for the Yankees over this injury. Yeah, there's a look, this is the continuation of what's been a frustrating experience with Frankie montas and the Yankees. I put it at a tent. I wouldn't know any other way to look at it, but this is going to be a very long and hopefully successful recovery, but it's a ten for me. It hasn't gone well at all. And this is just the kind of the next iteration along those lines and I don't even know if you're going there, but the Steven strassberg situation is another disaster. And this is not Strasburg. But boy, it was a failed year last year after the deal, and here we go again with another year that he's not going to pitch. Yeah, he had a 6 plus ERA for the Yankees last year after the trade deadline. You know, the he apparently from what I understand in anything they wanted to start with a throwing program on flat ground. He just didn't feel right. And they're not sure exactly what's going on, but they're going to go in and check it out. I think this a case. Do you remember leading up the trade deadline last year? We wondered if the Yankees would be the team to get Luis Castillo. The Mariners make that deal because the Yankees didn't want to give up one of their best young shortstops in a trade. And at this point, I don't think with Montage eligible for free agency later this year, it's nothing beyond sunk costs. Except for the possibility that he might come back at the end of the year. This turns out to be a disaster for the Yankees. 100% and then what Aaron Boone and cashman and Blake, what do they do with maybe a reliever conversion into a starter? And again, this is another reminder, no matter how many starting pitchers or pictures you have, you can never have too many. You know, this idea that we're going in with 6 or 7 starters and some teams might consider a 6 man rotation. You never have too much pitching. And the Yankees are getting a bad reminder of it. You're even before we start. You mentioned that Stephen Strasburg injury, he's also out indefinitely scale of one to ten. What do you think? Yeah. Can you go higher? 12, 13. You know, I love the guy. I love what he was a capable of doing. I've known him since he was a collegiate player and playing the wood battling in Connecticut. You know, electrifying stuff when he's healthy, but I think we're passing when he's healthy because there's been no evidence that he's been healthy and just rinsing is one of these times buster where if you're not intimately involved with a team or a player, all of a sudden this appears on the radar and you're like, oh God, like really why are we just sort of discovering this in spring training? You know, whether it's somebody having surgery or somebody like Strasburg, who's had a setback and I don't know, I don't necessarily have great expectations going in. So when I saw that news, I think there was a bit of a here we go again part of it and it's unfortunate and sad. I agree with that a 100% and I also think there's a chance that we've seen him pitch his last pitch in the major leagues. And it's a reminder because they win the World Series in 2019. They don't want it without Stephen, who's going to go down in history as the greatest pitching prospect that we've ever seen, but it's a reminder that you can't pay for past performance. You have to look at the medical information and you have to assess the physical risk and at the time that he got that $245 million deal with the nationals. I know folks with other teams were basically saying, what are they doing? You won the World Series, but what are you doing going that far out with a pitcher who's had that many injuries and look, he was a tremendous pitcher at his absolute peak. He was so much fun to watch, but it's possible at this point, you know, he might be done. And he's told The Washington Post that he's not sure what's ahead for him. We get word out of the Texas Rangers organization that Jacob de Grom has had an early setback, it's some kind of a LAT core type strain. We don't know exactly what he's going to be back out on the mount. Carl, for you, scale of one to ten. How concerned? Again, just based on recent history, it has to be a ten. I think there's a reason that the mets didn't go all in on Jacob and Grom when they had a chance. I think there's a reason that Texas is the team that shot him. I fear greatly about what's just paid for and investing. I have a great fear about that. So I put it in a tent to be honest with you. Yeah, I agree with you. Because I think, you know, again, talk about strasburger reference Strasbourg in baseball.

"And we can talk a little bit more about rob here and maybe we'll get to that because I think it's an interesting trade for mat two, but rob is basically went from what? Like 70, I think $72 to a $180 in three days, three or four days. So he's definitely improved his prospects for the auction and next season, making these deals. And it certainly seems like based on what he said to you in the chat just now. That he's got more to sell, which he certainly does. Any thoughts or any sort of surprise on rob zen, like he is three big pitch or he has four big pictures that were on his roster like last season, he had Joe mosgrove, his Aaron nola, Luis Castillo, and he also had the least severino Nolan being the most expensive and I think most people would probably opt for the grand option ahead of even though Noel is probably safer in almost as almost as good or like the 50th percentile outcome is probably about the same. And then Castillo is like $21 and submarine is 18. Which of those guys would you have preferred to have paid for? Or would you just pay for musgrove? I think musgrove must prove. I think, you know, there's a lot of different ways to look at it. I'm not a de Grom guy at the moment. I mean, the math doesn't really work on my roster. I think somebody who and neither does for that matter. So. Most of them, just a bit of fan must grow for a while, a and like them, you know, he's never really showed his seasons has just gotten progressively better. There's obviously the risk with the Grom 34 years old. So if you're asking who I'd like the most might be a different question, who I think made the most sense on my roster probably would have been much more than Nolan or de Grom. Yeah, I mean, yeah, I guess the other two I would have been asking for would have been Luis Castillo or Louis severino. I wouldn't push this up. I mean, I remember when he got him, you know, for a buck or something super cheap and different story, but I just I'll let someone else I wouldn't have overpaid for him. I happily take him on my roster for 18 bucks. He's able to Luis Castillo. I think he had such an awful start last year. I wouldn't overpay for him either, but I love to have my roster for 21 bucks too. The musgraves, yeah, I'm a must grow fan. I think the price is right. I don't think it was an overpayment. I think, yeah, like you said, it was the market. Good trade for both sides. If you look at a together just because again, I assume that a coon you would have been tossed back, right? So really Matt paid 29 bucks for musgrove Corona worth and Hanukkah yeah, he basically had Andrew pay for the deal. Right. So here the hell that off season so far is basically what's it been three days? Three days into the off season. He's a tough mudder list. Yeah, I think. Yeah, not had a really good day in terms of acquiring and selling. I think the weird part for Matt is when you look at Matt's roster, he has so many good players that are super cheap. Like I can almost fill out this entire column. I might have to increase the size of this thing just because he has so many cheap players that he can keep and I think this deal makes it a little bit more challenging to keep everyone. So he's going to have to sell some pretty quality players in my opinion. I'm just filling this out right now, so we got Joe musgrove now. That's going to add another 14. He's got he's got Lance mccullers. He's got Justin Verlander. He's got Michael Harris. He's got missing a big one. I don't think he keeps walking around. I think Michael gets tossed back. I would not keep walker Bueller for whatever he's priced at. What's the status going into the season? Do you know? He's off for the entire year. Oh, that's right. Okay, I couldn't remember what I couldn't remember exactly what you drew. So never mind, you get started there. He's probably going to keep Romano for four bucks. He could keep Joe Ryan. He could keep. He could bring singer, like, and this is just one variation of this. You could put in like 5 other names, but he's God, yeah, 14 guys for 89 bucks on here. Yeah, better all super cheap. Everyone is like Joe musgrove is the most expensive player on Matt's team right now. It's a Scott Vanderbilt team. It very much is. So I'm guessing some of these guys get moved. And maybe he goes and adds, I don't know. You get out of a big time picture he could add a big time hitter, perhaps like cheaper. But you get so Perez. He can go get Sal Perez. But he's got adley rushman. So which was always my issue. So stop them before you go. And certainly didn't. But yeah, I mean, we can go on AD nauseum over the Salvador Perez terrain, but and like I said last year, I would gladly cut Saul Paz. But Matt forced my hand and I'm very happy to have a very cheap Dalton var show for $4. Cool. So I think we've went through each of the trades that have went down over the past couple of days. I did kind of want to touch on just real quick. Maybe some guys that we haven't talked about much like it's pretty much been the same, we've talked about will. We've talked a little about me. Obviously you've talked about Andrew and Johnny quite a bit. We've talked about rob, but like maybe someone like Tim, I've been discussing trades with people in terms of someone that I've spoken with, I think he was also someone that was trying to make a big time deal tonight and fell a little short, but he has kind of a sneaky like a sneaky good roster with Darvish mcclanahan, he has Christian homme. He picked up Bobby witt. He's got a cheap all hundred Kirk in the catcher spot. He's got an intriguing Aaron ashby. You know, there's a lot of options that he can go for. But I think he needs to, but this is the thing. I think he needs to still add another player to, but I don't know how he does that with where he's at money wise. He only has a $184. And this is kind of the problem with what you were talking about a little while ago with Gary Cole was. Like Gary Cole should have ended up in Tim's hands. He shouldn't have been to Johnny. It should have been ten. And Tim should have won it in the off season with $84 and paid a 104 coal, but he decided Tim decided that he could

"For baseball is John Gant goes through his warm up tosses Cowboy. This guy is quite the enigma of sorts. He walks a boatload of people. But yet his numbers are still Pretty good. Yeah, I think when you look at Gantz overall E r a at 1.6 kind of pops your eyes a little bit. As you go through his stats, you think? Well, the guy doesn't give up any home runs. He's only allowed one home run in his 50 and two thirds innings, But yet he leads the National League and free passes. 34 walks in 50 innings. You put that together with the 43 hits, you think, boy. That is a lot of traffic on the base pass, But he gets a lot of chases on the change up Once runners aboard the Reds will have to be cognizant of that and be very patient. Once they put rallies together, you described that it reminds me a little bit of what we've seen from Luis Castillo in the past. So we'll see how it goes for Gant against the Redlegs Today, Jonathan India stands in to get it started. Hope you enjoy it. Reds and Cardinals from Busch Stadium in ST Louis. Being selective make can't throw you a strike. He's thrown just one of the first four pitches, and here comes the 31 and India slaps it right back up the middle into center field for a base hit. He just keeps right on along India with a leadoff single here in the first inning. You have to like what you're seeing from Jonathan, India. You talked about it day before yesterday about the change in the approach at the plate. Not really the swing as much as the bit of the toe tap for timing. If he stays like this is gonna be kind of fun. It has been very fun. In fact, over his last 13 games, he's hitting almost 3 80. Over the years. Let's wrap up the Bengals conversation on the heels of jungle to the hall event. So today, pro football focus ranks the wide receiver cores in the NFL one through 32. Where do you think they put the Bengals wide receiver corps on a scale of 1 to 32 number? 12. Number 12 Jamaar chased a against Tyler Boyd writing this Profootballfocus. Having chasing Hagen's takes the pressure off boy who has become one of the league's most dependable receivers. Auden, Tate returns as a contested catch specialist. The receiving corps is strong, but tight end has few legitimate reason receiving threats on the team. They were good for 29th in the league in terms of a receiving great at that position last year, Profootballfocus points out drew sample and see Jay Oussama sample leading the way of 40 catches 349 yards. They conclude the Bengals have an excellent group of receivers, but they could use a better threat it tight end around out there Group of pass Catchers C J is feeling good 100% coming off the Achilles injury a year ago, drew sample will be another year. Wiser and older. Look, Ultimately it's a It's a team that I think last year used used. The tight end finished 29th out of 32 teams. It's not a don't say It's not a high priority, but it is down in the pecking order. And I think if If they hold true to the word of Brian Callahan, Joe Mixon will become more of a threat this year and not come off the field. I don't think it's a stretch to say if Joe Mixon is on the field on a more regular basis that joke and have 50 to 55 catches out of the backfield. And then you're you start adding it up and you're figuring out you know how many footballs other and how much were you actually going to use the tight end? I was struck by something, Tyler Boyd said yesterday. Oh th s week number two. I want to run a two minute drill with Tyler Boyd. Here is Tyler on the issue of the wide receiver group and specifically starting with The vibe and kind of the impact early of the arrival of Jamaar Chase kind of the difference with him ages kind of. It's not a big difference, but I feel he's more versatile player like he can do jet sweeps. You could probably lined up in the backfield. He could do things like that, you know, toe utilize his abilities. Lot of in different positions, you know, not saying AJ wasn't going up, but I think we got a lot more ballots and can just call anything that we ain't gotta worry worry about guys being in certain spots. Have you noticed? Increased in the arm? Strength of job are absolutely you know, every like, like earlier T he had you out the first ball because that that those smoking them they come in, you know, so we gotta anticipate that Joe got Stronger Lester as well, You know, so hand without this thing a little bit, but we gotta adjust to it. So I mean, we receivers. We gotta catch anything that's thrown us. You're kind of embraced and leadership role the last few seasons. Why does being a leader so important to you? Because you have to have a solidified God toe. Stay on. Stay on Every guy you know, hold hold them to the same account of the same Standard is myself, you know, So I've been here the longest and I have seen a lot more than guys and I've been through a lot more diversity, you know? So I just got do a great job of making sure guys is one of a game and Don't don't don't lose, like a confidence and just just just be Don't know. I just discovered a place. Is it a little surreal to think that you are the veteran in the wide receiver room is still crazy, because that's a look like I'm a young guy, you know? This is the first year I actually feel like a vet, You know, despite Still having years under my belt last year in two years ago, but I mean, I'm embrace it, and I mean I enjoy it. Tyler Boyd, two minute drill with him Good stuff. I was struck by the initial comment about him, stating that Jamaar Chase is more versatile than AJ Green Woz. Um, certainly at the back end of a J. J's career. Certainly I think that is a is an accurate statement. And I think that will play and pay dividends on what they can do with that trio of wide receivers this year with with Joe Burrow back, all right, let's go back to some conversation. We started early with the I want to call it the cryptic. I just thought it was a very revealing That was a great question by see Trent Rosecrans of the athletic, asking Sonny Gray last night after getting hammered 17 to 3. He asked him where they are as a team. And how did they move forward? And Sonny struggled over a minute to try to answer the question and ultimately could not, and kind of apologize for not being able to answer the question, And that led to our conversation in an attempt to kind of fill in the blanks on what he was struggling to say about This baseball team. Let's go to the phones in on a cell. Mark. Welcome to sports talk. Hey, Lance. Good evening. Good evening. I'm well, Thanks for calling. Well, you know, you know, I think I agree with that pass caller. I think Sonny Gray is frustrated. And I think really, how you fix it. I think first you have to realize and understand how you got to where you're at. Yeah, in. I think First of all, I think the pitching this year has been a huge disappointment. I mean, Look at that. Ti me. All right. What are they 30 out of 30 teams? I mean, you know That that that that that is not going to get fixed overnight. You know, Michael Lorenzen coming back could help you know is he really gonna be I will be going to be after this injury. Is that thing? Hell, I mean, there's so many questions there. I don't even know where to begin. Yeah, I file him under the category of all believe it when I see it that he comes back any pictures this year. Yeah, I mean again. I think the thing that the Reds have to understand that ownership. That's understand. I don't know that they do because I think you have an owner the face and he hears what he wants to hear and ignored good advice when he gets it. Because it doesn't you know he doesn't. He doesn't even understand the game long term that doesn't want to But the bottom line is the Reds. Talent is just not good enough. I mean, period. It's not good enough, and I went back over the weekend, and I looked over the last 10 years of Red's draft. You about picking one through three just to see how many of those guys have actually made it impact on this team. And when you look at that, you can totally understand why you're where you're at. Yes, they have basically the only player that was a top three draft pick that I can think of that I saw out there right now that's making an impact. Is Jesse Winker. That's it? Yeah, and Mark. Unfortunately, if it's going to be part of that part of the pain of a rebuild is supposed to be, you know, helped by drafting high And where. If this organization's going anywhere, it's gonna have to be the Tyler Stevenson's and Hunter Greens and Michelangelo's to their credit. In the last 18 months. They've changed over there, scouting director and some things in the organization But without having a season last year in the minors. We haven't seen the fruits you know, start to bear the fruits, but you're right where they are right now. Those drafts prior to those changes. Really put this organization behind the eight ball. Well, it's sad, but you know it is what it is. And they worst thing they could do right now, I think is bring one of those two pitches with dull ho are hunter green up here to sell some tickets? Yes. Agree. We've seen that play before. Yep. Solid Homer Bailey. Well, Homer billion in Tyler Malli came up and he really wasn't major league ready. You know, one pitch. I think you can look at Luis Castillo and look at some of his problems..

"Honda dealers time to visit with Reds manager David Bell David kind of a weird day yesterday and it really felt like Luis Castillo threw the ball. Well, just a few mistakes there. Early on, kind of put the team behind the eight ball. How do you size up the way Castillo threw the ball He's getting there. You know, It was just kind of confirmation for Louise for DJ that they're working on the right things. He's going the right direction. You know, they think we all have seen Louise where he's Even better than he was yesterday. But that was a good start, You know, And I think if he if he can give you that, on a regular basis should be really happy because he's Kept us in the game really pissed. Well, you know, the only Saying it was, you know, maybe they're at the end, you know, walking the first two guys, you know that was other than that. It was a good day for him, And then again, it was just confirmation that he's going the right direction and you know it. And build on that between starts at the end, there is that just kind of a lapse in concentration at the end of the start, or how do you size up the two walks? Yeah, I don't You know, I don't think it's there's so much a lack of concentration is I do think it was a long inning. Um, you know, I think that's a challenge for for starters, especially towards the end when you know they've already have several innings and Trying to stay loose, trying to stay with it. He was on deck and knew there was a chance he was going to get hit for S O. There was some sweet a bit of the swing and You know adrenaline, maybe. And you had all that up and, you know way asked you guys to do that all the time. And I do think that all those things combined did affect him when he went went back out. We're visiting with Reds manager David Bell. The conversation continues in a moment on the Reds radio network. Reds fans.

"What else you got? That's better. Do you really want to be the franchise that bails on players after a bad half a season plus I'm always struck by people who would call me or tweet me about how the Reds never should have given up on Edwin Encarnacion known and I'm not saying that I Eugenia Suarez is capable of having the kind of seasons that Edwin Encarnacion had in Toronto, but they moved on from that dude after he had played in over 500 games and by the way, what they got for him is what they wanted older, experienced guy who had been through the wringer before, and that was obviously Scott Rolen. You can't beat up on him. It's like Anthony Diesel. Funny. They moved on from Anthony DeSclafani. The Giants paid him six million bucks. He got off to a great start last year that had five bad starts. Now you kind of wish will wait a minute. We kind of should have kept him around right? He was fixable. Disco Funny last year had an area of 7 20. Everybody was ready to move on. Guy who has experienced a guy who has a track record of relative success. Was able to tap into what he used to do, and it's having a good season for the Giants, in fact, beat the Reds Week and a half ago. You're going to do that whole thing about how well they should have been more patient with him. Don't do the same thing with the Urania Suarez. By the way, what else you got to third base on a consistent basis? That's rock. Alex Blandino. You may not believe in a Ukrainian Suarez. The red certainly do. Which is why, instead of benching him Instead of banishing him toe, you know, not being on the team or barely playing instead of sliding him down the batting order. They instead chose to show him a degree of confidence. And hit him lead off the three games in Washington. I liked it, not just because he played well and had a couple of home runs and got on base. I do think there's something about showing somebody that you're their guy. Think that spoke to David Bell. We always here, you know, people in baseball talk about what with the manager. It's not necessarily the line up, or, you know maneuvers managing the bull. All that stuff's important, but it's managing people thought David Bell managed Urania Suarez from a human standpoint really, really well this week. And there was a bit of a payoff of the way he swung the bat against the Nationals. Not today in a pension, enroll 10 minutes away from seven o'clock and the news will get to a Chris Greg and you 513749 7000. And 1 800 the Big one. In Major league baseball. It goes without saying, but I'll say it. If the Reds have any hopes of going in a direction they hope. They're gonna have to do it with a much better version of Luis Castillo. His opposition Tonight is 31 year old Anthony de Sclafani, the right hander, three and one. The earned run averages to 14. "Bolts and pitches and I think you would tell you the same, but you made a lot of really good pitches. Specifically with his fastball into righties into lefties. I thought going in, we really wanted to try to do that. And just because We feel like it. It makes all of his other pitches better. Yeah, and he did that He did. He made a lot of really good pitches. Just not enough of them. That's Tucker Barnhart last night talking about Luis Castillo, who couldn't get out of the fourth inning last night and look give up 10 hits If if you watched her listen to follow the game, and not every single hit that he gave up was an absolute rocket. But The home run that he gave up the kind of set the tone by Josh went is that was certainly hit hard, and a number of balls were struck pretty well. And more than anything, you just watch Luis Castillo. You see his inability to put hitters away. You see an inability to consistently work ahead. You see an inability I believe that I know Chris. Well, sure, Jeff Brantley, but but to Ah, you see an inability to put the fastball Where he wants. It all added up to a three and two thirds inning effort. Last night, 10 hits eight runs and an E R a Now of 7.71. Here we are, midway through May, the guy that we thought was least likely to be the staff ace is has pitched like anything but so far. Here in 2021. Good evening on my leg. This is sports, talking A Friday night in for Lance McAllister on 700 wlw in. It begs the biggest question of the season so far, And frankly, this question has been asked And with with each passing bad Louise Castillo outing, it becomes a louder question and a more important question. It's really kind of become two questions. If you think about it, Number one. What's wrong with Louise Castillo? We've explored whether or not there are chemistry issues between he and Tucker Barnhart well Tyler Stevenson has caught him as well. The results have been the same. Ah, Is it the selection of a certain pitches? He throwing his changeup too much? Is he not throwing his changeup? Enough? Is he throwing a slider too often? What's up with his fastball? I don't know what I do know Is this this team, which I think still does harbor postseason aspirations doesn't go anywhere. If Luis Castillo continues to be as unreliable as he's been so far this year, he has struggled at home. He has struggled on the road. He has struggled when he's given runs early. He has struggled when he has to pitch in close games because the team doesn't hit. He has struggled regardless of who the catcher is. He has struggled in all but one start so far this season. The other question is, what do you do with him? It's worth pointing out. Louise Castillo does have options. Can you imagine how jarring it would be? Who take the guy. Former All Star who was your opening day starter. And send him to Louisville. It also seems somewhat over reactionary and it does feel like that. There are some steps in between doing nothing. I'm sending him to Louisville. One of those steps is Derrick Johnson. One of the best pitching coaches and baseball. We've given you a lot of dudes like the CNO Perez and Jeff Hoffman and guys like that. Pitchers who, quite frankly, are not that central to this team Success. You've got to get Luis Castillo fixed. Luis Castillo is a cornerstone of foundational piece off this franchise. We've talked a lot over the last two years about giving Derek Johnson reclamation projects or giving him guys that used to be good, but haven't been good before, like Sonny Gray, seeing what he could squeeze if you can squeeze even more out of a guy like Trevor Bauer, seeing what he could do with guys that you know you sign on the cheap and maybe Derek Johnson can get something out of them. Condemn Eric Johnson Fix Luis Castillo If he's as good of a pitching coaches. Everybody claims the answer has to be yes. There's moving him to the bullpen. Uh, I guess I would ask fine. If if you don't want Luis Castillo toe start What else you got? There's having him skip a start. That's gonna be kind of hard to do because this team doesn't have another off day for about a week and a half. There's out writing him to Louisville. There is a lot of things that involve him not getting the ball every fifth day. But what else should God like legitimately? What what other for for a team right now. That's giving the ball to Jeff Hoffman every fifth day and has run Jose daily own out there and doesn't have Michael Lorenzen filling out a spot in the rotation. Right now, The news has been good on that front. And is cycling through in the front end of the bullpen. Ah, whole slew of guys who have been ineffective from Carson Fulmer tow the newly DF aid Sal Romano, too. The aforementioned CNL Perez. What do you got? That's better than Louise Castiel. What do you have? That's better to fill the role of a guy who's supposed to be your staff face. Mind you this. We're not trying to find somebody here to make a couple of starts and fill out the back of the rotation and occasionally pitcher Jim but usually just keep his team in games. Luis Castillo is on this team Police. Castillo is a big part of this franchise because the idea is he pitches that are high enough level that you can give him the ball and feel really damn good about your team's chances of winning. The problem now, though, is Give Louise can steal the ball and you almost expect the worst. I'm kind of a track record guy. Luis Castillo has a really good track record. I'm wary of overreacting to small sample size is this is not an apples to apples comparison, but I think of Jesse Winker. But a lot of time in this room and down the hall on ESPN 15 30 listening to people tell me how the Reds needed to move on from Jesse Winker. Right now. There are not three better hitters in baseball than Jesse Winker. By the way, Jesse Wanker prior to last year, had no real big league track record to speak of Luis Castillo does. He was great down the stretch last year. He was obviously very good in 2019. He was an all star that year. The problem is this year, the regression has been real. The other problem is I don't know what you have. That's better. I don't know what the viable alternative right now. I do know what it probably isn't and we'll get to that. Coming up. It's 705. Your phone calls are welcome. What do you do with Luis Castillo? And if the answer is send them somewhere else remove him from the rotation. What do you got? That's better. What do you got? That can replace Luis Castillo. 513749 15 30? No 513749 7000. Do that all the time. 5137491 7800 the big £1 as 700 is a free call on a TNT. Your phone calls are ahead. "Jack, do you have any thoughts on this trade? Do you remember this? I mean, creed was looking real good last year. And by the sounds of it, I haven't seen him pitch this spring. I mean, he's back, right? From his history. He's good. I haven't seen how he looks, but. Yeah, a 130 bucks there was a lot of money. I don't know. I don't know how to evaluate this. Tim, what are you thinking about this? Well, considering that walker buehler fetched $200, maybe I don't play. I could have gotten a little bit more. But Luis Castillo is young. Young ish and has a lot of great sort of sub metrics, you know, is sort of ground ball raid. Those types of things. He's $14, I think, is a keeper. So for very, very cheap, I was, I was excited to make and this is what I'm trying to do now, artfully is Jack and I have discussed is how can I make sort of lateral pivots between certain players and try to catch value when I can? And it's not great that Luis Castillo has gone for my rotation, but I felt like I really needed that infusion of cash. After I bought a lot earlier in that season and I could do away with at least Castillo and it was a good enough amount of money and I thought freed being $6 as a keeper, just a nice little something. I felt confident about him overall and you know what? Getting a starting pitcher for $6 is ultimately still a good value in my mind. Any thoughts about landslide? No. I respect lancelot in a lot more now than I did when I traded him. I turned him like this guy is fucking old and fat. I don't know how. I don't know how he's still throws the ball as hard as he does and gets strikeouts, but I feel like this train is gonna come to an end at some point. So I was fine to let him go in that moment and be done with it. Yeah. It's funny you say that. I think it's beneficial for you that he ends up south side of Chicago where he's probably going to give up more home runs than at the globe, which is going to be a pitcher's park. And I did like this trade for you at the time, which I'll go into in the write up. But yeah, this was a fascinating trade to me because as you said, loose Castillo's is a good picture. I think most people would recognize them, especially since we had so many NL central guys in the league. But I don't think people realized how good Lance Lynn had been even at kind of an older age and only costing $4. But with that said, love max freed long-term, you're getting them cheap. You're getting them young and you got a 130 bucks for them. So I thought this was a really good trade actually on both ends for you and Tom.

Reds, Pirates games postponed as Cincinnati player tests positive for COVID-19
"This is sports talk later for Lance Encounters for 700 wlw. By the way. Hope you had a great weekend. As of right now, we are expecting the Reds to take on the Kansas City Royals tomorrow night. In Kansas City. That'll be an 805 1st pitch. We go on the air, with the Arnell carriers inside pitch at 705 Luis Castillo is said to get the ball against Brad Keller. Trevor Bauer is now scheduled to pitch on Wednesday, followed up by Sonny Gray. In the first game of a four game series against the Cardinals in ST Louis on Thursday, this after the weekend that was lost after Friday night raids beat the Pittsburgh Pirates and then a couple of hours after the game. We find out that a player tested positive. For covert 19. Saturday's game postponed Sunday's game postponed Ah, couple of things worth pointing out here. Seafront Rosecrans, who, by the way, covers the Reds for the athletic And doesn't awesome job. I've tweeted out a link to a piece that I think will guide you through everything happening with this team right now. But since Saturday, every Reds player has tested at least three times. The players were tested. Saturday, Sunday morning and this morning. Pittsburgh Pirates. Players were also tested in Cincinnati before they flew to Pittsburgh last night. Um As of now. Based on reporting from a couple of it from people who are close to this. There's only been one positive test on the Reds, and it was the player who found out that he was testing positive work over 19 on Friday night. That player has since tested positive again. But as of now and again, there's the latest round of testing results that they have to get. No other Reds player has tested positive. The Reds have yet to fly to Kansas City. They are supposed to fly to Casey tomorrow if they're cleared to play. The player who tested positive would have to be placed on the injured list. Somebody's going to have to be brought up to take his place. The The Pirates will be here in mid September, September 14th to the 16th so there is ample time to make up. Two games They missed right now. The Reds have 40 games remaining. There are 41 days between now and September, the 27th which is the end of the regular season, and so obviously they're not playing today They're going to play 40 games and 40 days to get to 60. They already have a double header scheduled Against the Cubs next weekend. But there is not only a Pittsburgh trip to Cincinnati, but the Reds also going PNC Park and so you can make up one of the games there if you have to. But as of now, The plan is to play. Tomorrow night against the Royals. Again. All of this is very, very fluid. As we've seen with the Cardinals as we've seen with the Miami Marlins, the good news is again. After the one player tested positive with that result being released. On Friday. Reportedly. No other Reds player has subsequently tested positive and also know Pittsburgh Pirates player As of right now 6 26 on Monday night, no other Pirates player Has tested positive. So there you go, Uh 513749 7800 The big £1.700 free call AT and T. Jerry is calling from Claremont County. Hi, Jerry. Jerry. Hope something happens. Jerry. Your wine? Yeah, sure. Go. Oh, well. And so there are awaiting the latest the Siri's of results and they hope to play tomorrow. The Pirates also hope to play tomorrow. Yeah, this time, noting the Reds go to Kansas City before they do that they need to get to clear And for that to happen, they want to ensure there is no other players testing positive. Your city's okay. Well, yeah. I mean, the players are routinely testing positive testing, which is why we found out that a player tested positive on Friday night. Yes. Okay. Okay. Is that all right with you? Yeah. No. There was just a bad weekend without baseball. Yeah, Wass, I I don't I can't disagree with that. Ana would do anything about it. I wanna thank you very much. Thank you. Ok, thanks. Have a good evening. You you you do the same. The Miami Marlins. You may recall after the first weekend of the year they were in Philadelphia, and then again, they had a game scheduled against the Phillies. And on Sunday morning. They found out that a number of players on that team had tested positive for Cove in 19 And instead of baseball, swooping in and stopping the Marlins from playing. Instead, the players were allowed to vote. Whether or not they play now, I'm not sure why that would ever be the case. But that's that was the plan. That was the plan baseball let the Miami Marlins players vote via text by the way. On whether or not they want to play. They did play the game that day in Philadelphia, and then As it turned out that they had close to 20 members of their traveling party. The majority were players, obviously not all of them. The majority of players that a bunch of guys in there traveling party test positive for cocaine, 19 And then it took them forever to get back on the field where baseball is trying to do. Is prevented outbreak now. It is worth wondering. This. Today is the 17th of August regular season baseball ends on September the 27th.
