These two guys are tremendous individually. What do what do you have them together for? I don't see the connection because of the tremendous characters and talents this, no connective tissue. That would connect these guys as a team for me nothing. And the guy said, well, it's come some very high up. That's how to boss wants and. Okay. So that's it. That's the man who pays the bills. That's the only give Cody personally, I think they're both great though. I I'm a fan of both those guys work, Cody the call over that give you a little insight. That's what I do. "And every something else I feel like is like specific just to the US Saint Patrick's Day, I feel like isn't really celebrated anywhere else. What does say Patrick's Day world? Like, that's I think that's what fascinated me so much about this movie because I was like I wanna go I wanna see a movie about like what the other worlds are like and like. I missed opportunity for a franchise. I don't magic we can agree world. Just the bunch of angry white dudes trying to claim Irish heritage gangrene like everywhere. There's to like Christianity world's there's Christmas world and user. Could be very grim. We see a bunny, but there's other shit that goes on and around Easter that is not so festive. Yeah. Stigmata jesus. Maybe. Also, this will okay. This is getting ahead a little bit. But there's like a part of this movie where everyone it how is not Halloween town. That's a better movie than this. How called Halloween town. That's. Who's a matron any matrons here? Ooh. You've heard our Halloween town episode. Yeah. Both Disney movies, and they recycled the name. I mean, it is a bad name. But there's like a part where they think Jack's kellington. They're like he's gonna die as isn't everyone here dead. Why is that a problem? Because at the beginning, they're like where all dead, and that is cool. And then at the end, they're like, no he's gonna but he was dead. Right. Sorry. Okay. So we meet Jack's kellington. He's like the. Contracts going to he is like the highly revered. He's like the celebrity. He's the pumpkin king. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So it's a sig town that has a king and a mayor. London. I think what is the moxie like there. What are the polls? So the thing is he's tired of how Lueneburg and he's like, I long for something more. And then we also meet Sally. She's like this like patchwork quilt ladies Franken. She's a fake and stuff. Monster Frankenstein, it's just an excuse to like weaken, their one female character in the story, and we can ripper apart. Whenever we want. Very scary. The her. I mean, the introduction to Sally is she literally has her arm torn off when she's trying to get away from someone. You're like, oh, cool. Let's set the tone. And she admires Jack from afar, but she is basically in slaved by a mad scientist who created her in his lab. So he's a man in stem, boo. Okay. But she's a she's a wound stem because she makes potions which is what scientists do. Yeah. Because she's actively trying to poison him and escape poisoning a lot of roofing, boss. Very of relationship. Yes. Anyone phantom thread because the relationship between her and the scientist is basically phantom threat, a deep cut good job. Caitlyn? Okay. So Jack stumbles upon the entrances to the other holiday worlds, and he's like really let me walk into the woods. Sure. Then he finds the second act of the movie. The door that looks like a Christmas tree. He's like. Ooh, what's this all about? And then he gets sucked into it. And he ends up in Christmas. Town, secular religion, right? Just takes your right is. Like a tax. Assoc shiny resist. So he he's like what's this? There's a song that really called that. And then he discovers what Christmas is all about. "Anti-god comes with him. Because some guy was mooning Manhattan. He had the door open and his bare hanging out the side of a helicopter. I bet that was him. That's how that's the real moneymaker. Yeah. Well. Oh, yeah. He was hired. They to put something like technically for job title engineer. But everybody knows. That's why this guy works here. Hang this is a special place this evening. Wolf and areas. Welcome to it. I'm so glad you're here. We'll talk about how Lueneburg we'll talk about all of your other amazing work, and I wanna start with. How are we in? If that's okay. Yeah. First of all if my calculations are, correct. You would have been like twelve when the first one came out is that right? Yeah. It was around. And I you know, I didn't see it. I didn't see it in the first run through the the-the probably best for twelve year old. Yeah. My folks didn't let me see any of that stuff. And and I ten. Yeah. I remember. There was a Manson TV show. Remember that there was a they did a documentary or few part four part thing about the Manson family helter skelter. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. So we could really remember that was an injustice because he was fascinating. It was injustice to your acuity. Yeah. So Halloween was totally off the off the table for years. That's funny that so did you sort of like try to lobby to see the helter skelter thing, and and you wouldn't let you briefly, but you know. You know, strict Roman Catholicism has a way of ending debate quick. So what can you do, you know? I was one man who wanted to see some, you know, murder pillage. Yeah. And he couldn't I remember litigating to my mom to let me watch godfather to and it was on TV. And she finally did. But how lean my babysitter sort of made me watch. When it was on I run kid, and I was really scarred me for life. You're babysitting. Made you all yeah. Which is kind of why I really wanted to talk to you about this. But this is one of the last episodes of this podcast. And I wanted to get this movie. I've such a fan of your work, and I loved your performance in this. I want wanna talk about that abate your character is very funny in both the film and the family within the film. Yeah. And I just wanna know how much discussion there was with David Gordon green about you kind of being the diffuser of tension. It's funny because he kind of are that way as a character. And as that device for the film, and that's usually left to the wacky teen friend of the final girl or something. Yeah. You know? I think David wanted somebody who could just improvise and be able to hang with him because he's a really just having dinner with him last night street hotel. You town God doing a quick thing? And he's got a we he was shooting. I'm doing I shouldn't give that away. But I'm doing a serious for apple Dickinson. Emily dickenson. Right. I saw that on I'm DVD. Yeah. And he was shooting a thing last night with an actor. I probably I guess it's kind of a surprise. But anyway, this this actor was not well, not he's not an actor I, but anyway, and you mouth that to me won't say, I'll I'll tell you fair, okay thing off off recorded thing. But I think Dave wanted to keep that stuff pretty loose. And he was really smart about the tone in general. And he was just take your showed me some photos. Last night. And he said it we he said apparently because he shot it in Charleston. And apparently that street he kinda fucked street why because Halloween Crazy Horse. He showed me a photo. Somebody sent him a photo who lives in the house where the there's a not to get you look if you haven't seen it yet, then you haven't. But there's a there's a there's an incident with a knife and a woman's throat in and that's a fair fan. The movie essay about any horror movie. Spoiler. Exactly. And it's in the window of a certain house in status, and he showed me a photo yesterday of a family from France that showed up and they took photos in the front of that house, and the people live there Dave knows them..

April rich, and our guests. She's here limited time, she's going to be heading over across the pond as people like to say and everybody says thinks the first person ever say that very very clever. I remember when I said high school, I thought it was a fucking genius. And my teacher, Linda Deutsch just looked at me like. She's not wrong. Right. Let's check in over the pop culture. That's the infamous Montevideo pile dot com. That's garyk cockerel is Harry Potter themed outfit. Hello. So a lot of movies over the past week. I did I watched a few going on in the Garin Cockrel world is like this is the time of year for horror fans. This is like the bumper crop season to watch one every day and. Did you go back and see how Lueneburg just the one time in the theater you talked about going to see the second time. No watching a Halloween go, you know, who's gonna go, Nick. There's a lot of gross stuff. A lot of. I'm it's. I would put it almost style wise with like Rosemary's baby because it's very slow, and it gets really I thought mother Rosemary's baby. Mothers. Just passing. I remember that mother. Oh, yeah. Anger. Do so much garbage. See I somehow I missed the whole I don't I have never seen the riddle. Superior. Never really I've heard of it. "And I go way twenty four hours and you're going to think differently twenty four hours later. She was like I want to say it again. I saw how Lueneburg. Yeah. Us too. I was good. You like Halloween. Yeah. I get scared. Easy L. I don't. Yeah. I don't love it. I I just I get nervous. I know I just rough right now. I'm just emotional. I don't get scared easily in all I wanna do is see a movie that scares the crap out of me, and I can't come up with one. Why shouldn't we dig into? Why Ben is emotional? We skip it is there something from health for that. No. I'm doing brain training. Yeah. Rewiring my brain. Or are you going to a different therapist or something? I mean, I just watch a lot of videos related articles, and it takes work, but it's all worth it bent. So you could retrain your brain to. I don't know if that seemed really really intense. I don't know if I'm there yet. I mean, I'm just saying it's working. It's it's not cured by any means. It's working there's improvement. But it's slow. It's all about training, your brain to think positive thoughts and good thoughts. And when you go to the negative place. You just switch it back. You wanna know why? I don't want to go. See a star is born. I have I was just looking through my list. I knew I was I was at mad about something and why don't go to movies anymore. Lots. I went to a movie I'm sitting in this movie. I'm getting ready to emotion prepare myself for for the show for Colleen. Following the MU more than ever? I think this is a sign that I'm getting old because it never used to bother me. I know that I'm that whatever it's ticking inside of me is happening at a faster rate than ever. There's too high school kids sitting two rows in front of me three seats the left. I can hear everything they're saying, and they refuse to stop talking during the movie, and then they wanna come into each other during the movie like so when something funny happens good, you remember that one time, you know, was that during Halloween now. No because that's all all kids do is talk to her. It's absolutely. The most frustrating experience because I paid a ridiculous amount of money these as it'd be that movie. I only pay to that movie for the experience, and my experience is not going to be ruined. But you're immature Yang communication between. Whatever you happening where you listen and laugh at each other. And then poke your buddy in the side to make him giggle louder during us really scary movie because that makes me jump even higher because it makes it more real. I I. Don't want to go to movies anymore. I will sit on my couch and enjoy on my own just like most things in life these days. That's why I'm getting old. I. Unique I pick in your life. I think it's amazing. But also, I pick as a movie theater around here where your seat completely reclines. You have a Blanke like no joke that give you a blanket and a pillow wash before German. I don't do they do baby. Would definitely check that out. That's eighteen me thing. And then they give you wine and food, and they come and deliver it to your seat and the seats are spread out. It's more expensive. But you couldn't hear what someone else is saying do like one time, I'm not gonna lie. I actually brought my laptop in their work while watching the movie, no one here. To your brain rewired. Weird. That says nothing okay about that you paid to be in a movie, why would you pay to be a movie and work on your computer in your living room? Well, no because it was a new movie was elite Niessen multitask, multi totally does I don't one. One on one way. Go actually next week. Let's talk about that a little bit. Because I think a lot of women struggle with understanding that men only can do one at a time. Totally and we don't get it..

"Honey's welcomed in natch Butte. This is the last episode featuring my frights and delights as we've come to an end of October. And it's been very exciting and fun. Thank you for being on this journey with may, this is the last episode Nash that will come out before Halloween, and we have some Halloween exciting. So get excited. Speaking of Halloween. My fright of the week is that I got to see the movie Halloween the reboot that came out last week. I got to see it in completely empty huge theater by myself. Just my husband Shu-chen me. And it was amazing. Everybody saw on Instagram, and they said Jackie how did you get to see a movie with just your doll? How did you take to the movies? Everybody wanted to know. Where's this magical theater that allows dogs because I filmed her running all through the theater and everybody loved it chewy was like behind the she wasn't behind it. But she was in the lobby, you know, eating popcorn remnants and running around up and down the stairs of this big multiplex. And everybody said Jaguars as maj. Theater? How do I bring my dog to the movies? I'm going to be honest. You can't. Okay. So here's what happened if I'm being real my husband's best friend, Mike out, Mike. I don't think you listen Nash byu. Maybe you do high Mike is the manager of theater, and I'm not gonna say where it is. Because I don't want him getting trouble. But after hours this was like twelve thirty A M the last showing venom just let out and he loves going there and watch Lueneburg alone in the big fancy theater, and it was a this before movies even out this Wednesday night. Okay. The movie and come out Friday. So I got to watch the new Halloween movie alone, just me and Adam and chew. I've always wanted to take to the movies. She loved it. Everybody asks what she scared which. No, she was scared to loves violent movies. Okay. I don't know why. If there's a violent scene show, she perks up and watches it intently, I don't know what that is. But she loves it. She loved the movie, she loved the music. She was fine. So. Thank you to Mike for letting us have that frightful moment. Now in terms of the movie, you know, I don't wanna get into a review of the movie, I'm not a movie reviewer. I would say I give a six out of ten. Read reviews, and and do what you want, and I'm not going to spoil anything as I really hate. When people spoil things on, you know, podcast radio TV Facebook post, what say the move if you wanna say it. Okay. My delight of the week was I bought a car, and it's very exciting. I think I'm going to do another intro later about this because there's so much to say, and I don't wanna keep everybody right now. But I bought a car. My car was ten years old and wasn't serving me anymore. And I just felt I deserved something. A little newer and safer. This is the first time in my life that I've financed the car. You know, welcome to adulthood, right? Welcome to adulthood. I bought a car, and it's a previous which is a many. It's like it's city Prius city is the smaller addition, it's a used car slightly used, and it's really cute. If you wanna see it, you can go all my Instagram jagged. Michelle Johnson with one L go look at it. But anyway, it was the delight of buying vehicle. It was just such an adult moment. I learned a lot about what's going on in our country. You know, the APR rates are not what they used to be. I didn't know that. If you're wanting to buy car right now, I have an exceptional credit score. And I still couldn't get very low financing because our president doesn't want that. What can I say? So I learned a lot about that. I'm gonna get into it in another intro about the dance of buying a car and like making offers and they going back in the office and coming back out an hour, later and negotiation. I learned so much about this. Because this was the first time I bought my last car, but it was a different vibe this was like a negotiation..

"I will go back in there. I don't care if no dudes go there. I'm gonna meet Kristin Cavallari. Did they run into her husband Jay Cutler, and you told him that he was weird? You just I said something like man, we're Kristin Cavallari, and then a love to meet her, and you say, she's not here. And that was the end of the conversation. Pretty mad. What are you gonna say me Cavalieri? But I'm just saying, oh, I don't I don't really care. But I learned that because I said cavalry cavalry all the time. But her show is very Cavalieri. So they rhyme that on purpose. Oh, I don't. I didn't know that. Yeah. Learns everyday, right? Raimondo keep it up. Definitely keep you guys updated. It's not just a one and done. I'm going back. Absolutely. Get that picture force. What are posted on the website, right? Watching the news last night and had a story about how Lueneburg and when you go trick or treating if someone's lights aren't on. That means what any don't not there. Don't ring their doorbell. There's no candy leave them alone right in. That's all it means. Because here's what's been happening. Is that people assume they have been assuming that of someone's lights aren't on that they're on these sexual offender list. What? Yes. And so then they go and bust the windows and told over the house, so the whole story was just because our lights on doesn't mean their sexual offender. Right. They may not for one. They may not celebrate Halloween. A for to behave. Just might be somebody else's house celebrating a what that is. The craziest thing I've ever heard to just make the assumption that their sexual offender and to like, you know, vandalize their house because of it, right? Vandalizing house anyway to move to the next house. All right. So that was on the news that guy on the Powerball who one hundred million dollars. It was like the lottery ruin my life. That was on the news is pretty good newscast. I'll be honest with you kind of entertained by that here's a funny thing. So your friend goes in. It's what she's doing like a lecture to a class about business. Entrepreneurship. Okay. And so what happens if she's taking questions from, you know, all the kids that are there really eager to just talk to them and help them out and one kid is like, hey, excuse me. She's like, yes. And he goes, do you think you could help me grow my flipping bricks business, and she's like, wow. Okay. I'm so you restore bricks. All right there. Hold right there lunchbox. Yeah. In bricks. Head. I know I deal with flipping bricks is, but I guess he has little Br like bricks like they build a house with and you sell construction. Yeah. Like ones that are left over to construction site. He gets the leftovers, and then he sells them. Eddie are video producer, which means sounds like a bad sign like flipping someone offline bricks. See, I do know what this me business. It's a business. It's flipping Brexit cocaine. Yeah. High school score in front of the whole guy. And my friend was mortified when she found out because here she was like so excited. Like, hey, come talk to me after I get done. And we'll talk about how we can grow your business. And of course, like she saw some kids were laughing. And she didn't know why kid it was just being an idiot. He's really flipping Brexit cocaine. He might be I've never I've never even seen cocaine. Guys me neither. Okay. Like, I don't I don't. I never done a drug, but I I've never seen cocaine. Yeah. I know one time at a brick already. I was at my heard some people were doing it. But I still didn't see I've never seen it or seen someone do it only in the movies. And just still seem so weird to me. So we're someone sniff knows we maybe the weirdest show. Listen, I've never smoked a cigarette or had a drink alcohol. So for me, that's really create. But I've never seen it. I've never seen a brick. I've seen the bricks. I've actually laid never flip bricks though. But I thought that was a crazy story. I know. So she later found out..

"I'm glad you're here. I actually have to be honest with you. I was I was I wish I was with my daughter today because she we have spent the weekend making a volcano. Impressive by the way. Yeah. Tony yell at me about it. She yelled at you about. Yeah. Well, she didn't yell at me. She just came over. And she said, you realize this is only extra credit, and I said. Honey. You're dealing with an alcoholic. I'm either all in or I'm all out. We made a paper volcano, and it's a pretty spins pretty elaborate. But then I I have to post that. And I have to post what my sister sent me last night. My sister, Michelle who is probably the most talented in the family. She sent me, oh, we're working on our gingerbread house for contest, you know, again this year, and they always win a ribbon and whatever and she's like, a massive overachiever. So she said this year, we're doing a wizard of Oz theme. I'm like, oh, okay. The wizard of Oz as she just showed me, she just finished the witches house, and she showed me and see it goes up here and she's making a gingerbread tornado. And the house is sitting in the tornado. It's crazy. It is raise the hand even begin to think about what that would look like I'll show it to. Yeah. Posted I posted next to my volcano, and you tell me which one sicker. Okay. I mean, I met my family is with illness, mental illness can't stop can't stop. But I'm healthy compared to her. This leads me to a bizarre question. I can't believe I'm asking, but is big gingerbread making a move here for an additional holiday. Have you noticed this lately, I've noticed some Halloween gingerbread houses now gingerbread houses are Christmas through saying right Christmas? Maybe thanksgiving. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. We have to how Lueneburg gingerbread houses at our house. I won't do it. How did that start? I won't do it. What is being gingerbread trying to do? Yeah. We're gonna have this July fourth gingerbread houses, they're red white and blue the damn Russian Austrians or whoever is behind that. You know, that's a foreign influence definitely rushing us because there's so many Russian Austria gingerbread thing. That's right. Where I am telling you, we we know about picked big tobacco big pharma. We've got a big gingerbread. I hadn't seen that. Oh, yeah. But that is something that's something. I would March in the streets for. Or against aghast. Exactly against you. More houses me. I don't like the along Gatien of all these holidays. We're gonna be in one giant Christmas. Rama Honda Kwan's missing kinda holiday year round. If we don't say.

"Hey, welcome to stuff to blow your mind. My name is Robert land and I'm Joe McCormick and welcome to October. That's right. October for us is just a full month of how Lueneburg flavored spooky creepy monsters content. We would put out monstrous and occasionally hard theme content at other points during the year, but we really try and make sure that October is just jammed packed. We take our the, we take this one holiday very seriously anyway. It's monster science all month. That's right. And so today, Robert, E wanted to talk about horror movies and masks. Yeah, I kind of I just kept thinking about this recently and I, I don't think there was one particular movie that that that inspired it because obviously I've been watching slasher movies for a large portion of my life. I imagine you have as well and I and I don't imagine we have to explain this particular trope to anyone out there. You don't have to have seen a single slasher. Film to know it by heart, a masked murderer is on the prowl. In perhaps by the end of the film, you'll either discover the killer's identity or the nature of the disfiguration that forces them to wear that mask. Yeah, you discover it through this this unmasking. That tends to happen at the end of the movie. And I think it's interesting that the unmasking or face reveal trope happens in horror movies now. Okay, I'll frame it into is one way is that it happens in horror movies that are also mysteries. Yes, this makes total sense to me. Imagine a slasher movie like the scream movies, where it turns out at the end of every movie that the killer is a character known to you and you've discovered it was this person all along in the mask revealed. The face masks, pulled off. The face revealed tells you who it was. It conveys information get is the Scooby doo trope exactly. It was old man, Grizzle bums all along. But then there are tons of movies with mass. Killers that have unmasking moments, but the killer's mask is removed and it is not. It's not a mystery. It's not a character like there's Halloween and the Friday, the thirteenth sequels in movies like this yard, he know who the killer is or the killer is not a previously known character. And in these cases, I always wonder what purpose does the face reveal serve? It still tends to happen at the climax of the movie as if like this is all what it's all been leading up to. There's the face, but it's not like it reveals anything about who it was just like, well, that's what his face looks like. The I mean at one level is just kind of like the fan Goria magazine, like gore hound ethos, right? You know, he just building up to that point where you're seeing all his grisly stuff, but you want to reach peak peak grotesque. And that's where it's going to occur when that mask is pulled off, I guess so. So this is of course all just a very well worn trope, but a trope that we keep. Utilizing in our horror fiction because let's face it, it works. It's fun and I realized that it can. It can be a little bit problematic when we start to dissect our love for pretend murder films, which essentially that's what we're talking about. Pretend murder movies, and I just want to warn people at the top of this episode that while we often talk about horror, movies, monsters, ghosts and so forth. We don't usually talk about real world serial killers and stuff, which can arguably, at least to me be a more disturbing subject matter. And so it was a point of illustration of our topic. Today. We will be discussing a few real murderers from history. Just fair warning. If that sort of thing is likely to bother you..

Since we've been talking I noticed that know in the last five hours, it's only gone ten miles. So simple math. And and so they said, yeah. Really, it's really only going to miles an hour. What is the biggest issue going on right now? Well, you know, our biggest worry right now is flooding. We don't really know. Exactly. What's going to happen? We know there is a lot of rain. And of course, the flooding in North Carolina. You know, those those waters have to come somewhere to we are intimidating some flooding. We hope it's minimal, but we're prepared for the worst. Well, the little PD river near gala apparently is a concern. According to the army corps. And then you guys have one more the PDF ever again looks like it's just short of a record crest at is that sure our chair off. How do you say that Cheryl, Cheryl, Cheryl like this song? I couldn't resist. So that's supposed to crest two feet short of the record on Thursday. So there is definitely some issues, but I can see on this topography map. All those rivers are coming out of North Carolina and draining into your state. So folks along the northern border heads up on some flooding for you. And it looks like when I'm looking at where the bands are right now. Gibson, Makul and. So is there a way in your state to safely and securely donate to support the folks in South Carolina? Oh, absolutely. We have the one SC fund and data on our website at WWW dot S, C, E N, D dot org. And so it's a way that, you know, people can go and like you said safely and securely donate.
