"Gambling show already, Acosta use that you've been with wide fit studio where nobody, nobody and nobody on top of that I texted are our boss this morning to confirm what time we were off because I heard rumors were staying until 6 30. He didn't say it point blank, Joe, but I took it as I think he just wanted to make up for all the short shows that we had when we got to get tomorrow. I mean, tomorrow we got a war. On What? Till 3 30 again tomorrow. Yeah, The Yankee met doubleheader, which begins at four o'clock. We're gonna get a first a seven inning doubleheader between the Mets in the New York Yankees, and we get another What Sunday and other one on Sunday. Yes, we'll talk to the manager of the Yankees Aaron Boone. He's coming up at five, and we will get back to your phone calls. But John Hammons reported sponsored by sport clips, it's a new season all stylist and clean certified and guy's smart. And locally by bed, MGM believing your game, download the app and make a bet today, John, How are you? My job? I'm okay. Are you guys doing good in a John Doe? Brody said to us about 40 minutes ago. Louise Ross is meeting with the team kind of gauging the interest on if they're gonna play tonight against the Marlins. How about the rest of baseball? Because I'm having a tough time keeping track to three games already off the board. Where are we now? My understanding. His twins and tigers are also postponed. I just heard that a few minutes ago. We know that the A's rangers was postponed and themselves. Berry in Philly old friend reported that the Philly game will be postponed a cz well, so we're looking at three on and probably more than that. John, Let's let's get what's going on in the field. We had Brody on as well. And you know the decision to put Seth Luego into rotation to me is we think it was and They've gotten away with it now in a couple of games here against the wall, and they got away with it last night, Okay? They got away with it last week. That game could photo hit the home run to win it in in Miami before they had their little shut down here. They pitch. They put him in the rotation, and he pitches three innings and they take him out. He pitches 39 39 pitches. You can't touch the guy, but we got to get him out of the game out three giants of Mistake of a steak. Yeah, I'm with you Why We talked about it last week where we like him in the Ben. He's their best reliever. You one of the best relievers in baseball. I would leave him there. I mean, it's difficult thing. When you've got a guy an employee wants to start. You know, he's probably going to be decent as a starter that first outing. You look fantastic. But you're right. The only fits one third of the game so much we have in those close games coming out of the pen. I think that would help the team or I'm with you. It's you know, is one of those things where remember the job debate the whole What do you do with job? Chamberlain and I think most people thought keeping the bullpen because they saw him in the bullpen and he was great. And I think that there's this reaction. If you see a guy pitch well in the bullpen, don't mess with it. I think history has shown. If the guy can start, I'd rather and be a starter. And I hate to use this example. Adam Wainwright. Me. Adam Wainwright did a great job filling in for Jason Isringhausen in 2006 is unfortunately, we all remember If they had, said Boy, he looks so good as a reliever. Let's keep him as a reliever. We wouldn't have watched what is not a Hall of Fame career, but a very, very good career. So I understand starting Seth Luego ideo. The timing of it in a shortened season where you're slowly building up the pitch count, and you don't have the greatest bullpen in the world. It. It just feels like it's a clunky decision, and in a weird way, it's night. It's kind of like what the Yankees did do with job. Remember the whole thing in the middle of the year, where they created the job of rules that stardom he's pitching, like, four innings and throwing, you know 75 pitches. They got to take him out. Except in this case, the game's matter more because there's only 60 of them. I'm with you. I gotta win as many games as they can. And then the penny can affect several games in a week. You know, pitching three innings in a start. It's not gonna cut it in my mind, much rather be in those close games late. He's fantastic and as a reliever. I would think about it for next year. But you know the ship has sailed already. He's a starter. I mean, there's nothing we could do about it. Even if the three of us agree it's not gonna help. They could change their mind. I mean, take it easily make him the closer in two days, and I don't see that happening. I mean, it's not the way it's going on. He looked good for a start. Even such a there was three innings. Really good s. So it's It's not trending our way on this one, and we'll see. Maybe it'll work out. But I'm with you guys. I like it better in the pen. Well, why do you think the Mets have struggled John, like they have with runners in scoring position? I mean to me, That's the biggest reason that their signature three games on the 500 right now. Yeah, I mean, they've been terrible with runners in scoring position..

"Little build with technical issue this morning, So apologize about that. We think we're shipshape moving forward here and apologize to Ray. We went Teo, You want to chime back? You're more than welcome. 877337 66 66. Let's head up, Tio. My neck of the woods, Stamford, Connecticut. Beautiful Stanford. It's been It's the fan. What's going on, Ben? Hey, guys, How you doing? Great show. So obviously frustrated with last night's performance for 15 with runners in scoring position, you know we're dead last with runners in scoring position. But you guys talk about you know how bad the Mets are. We actually are the best in baseball. We have the best batting average per team are best on base percentage. Um, we have the number one hits per game. But this been there. The O P s. I got this from Tim Britain this morning. This is the best o PS in Metz franchise history. They say it runs in. Yes from bank. They're changing the approach approach. When runners are in scoring position, it is why they're tight. I mean, that's the other way to put it. I mean, when they feel the pressure that They understand They're not hitting with runners in scoring position. One point of time they're hit 1 72 rollers talks about being You know, maybe you're a little extra jumpy. You're looking to try and do something a little bit more. You realize the team struggles, whatever it might be. It's all it's all based on individuals as well. I mean, not not every single individuals, every single batter has the exact same approach. So Yeah, it's it's really overtaken the team, so yeah, you could terms of, you know, I don't know. I think I think they're tight. I don't know if it's me. You wanted to find his mental toughness or you want to define it as something that's kind of It's overtaken the team. It's been a story in the 1st 28 games or last six. They can't hit with runners in scoring position, but there, but they're a good hitting team. That's that's what I know. That's what makes it so frustrating. But how many rooms do you have your 12 and 16 team? That's what the Mets are. You could look at the stats and say, Okay, well, great to get guys on base. It doesn't mean anything if you don't score runs Sure over 12 16 right. We've had seven games where the difference has been either one or two run right? If we could have had if we hit that just an average level with runners in scoring position, we probably being 18 and nine right now. Listen, we could say the same thing about about you know if Edward Diaz had given up 15 home runs in the ninth innings last year, could say the same things if they had just sort some some runs for the Graham and his, you know, first Cy Young season. There's always those things bends we can point to, and I think the frustration is that the at bats are actually good, except when the runners in scoring position and all of a sudden Approach changes swinging at everything. And you know you have two rookie pitchers shut you out last night, you know, and to work E pictures. Excuse me started both games. Shut you out in the first one hour rain delay. The guy comes back in How How often does that ever happen in Major league baseball These days? We get an hour rain delay and the team actually throws the starting pitcher back in there. Doesn't happen. Appreciate your call that gotta talk about Seth Luego, but first Ray in water Berries back. Hey, Ray, how are you? Hi, guys. Thanks for give me another shot. Now that's really impatient. Starting from the announcement that the ground wasn't pitching one of those double header games plus Ah, not pitching against the Yankees. I mean, it took the air out of the honor their sales, you know, just Got off to a bad start. And then you're letting Sanchez back when you have backup catchers. You know, you got two extra backup catchers with the expanded roster for the doubleheader. He's up with the bases loaded. You gotta strike even and shit early when you're not scoring runs, you know, And then he let Luke go. You pull the master after three innings given another inning. You know he's failing along, you know. That's not really stretching them out. You know? Well, they only had him they only wanted to use him for three innings. That's really what should have been the minds that they didn't want tohave him go up down up down more than three times when that is not part of his repertoire of what he's been used to doing as a reliever. So instead of what the Mets should have really done Instead of guesstimating that it would take 52 55 pitches to go through three innings. What they should have done is basically said we have luego for three innings. They set the expectations for people when they said 50 to 60. So then he gets pulled with that 39 the guys cruising. You're wondering Well, what's going on here? Turns out that was never gonna happen. You know? Luego said afterwards that he was fine with it. He understood it. And you could almost tell most of the post game that RoHaas He seemed almost anguished by it like, even if he knew he obviously understands what he had in Luego and how he was going in that, you know, Luego most likely could very easily handled another inning of work easily could've handled another inning. But This was pre determined and it goes to the heart of the matter of whether or not this is the best role for luego. If he's going to be on such tight restrictions, and we don't know the next start feel if the leash will be longer. But it was a curious decision this late in the season. Teo say that he's going to go with starting rotation is a desperate decision. We know that I mean they were desperate. They had nowhere else to turn. So that's why they decided to finally give in to Lugo's requested finally go back into the starting rotation. Now, the question is, how do you? How do you judge the innings? Where do you think you're going to get the best use, even though Luego wants to be there? And you don't have a lot of other viable options to be in that starting rotation. Where do you view? Lugo's innings is being more valuable? Manning the Magi the three innings that he got last night or luego being available, You know, three games or three games over a course of Ah, six or seven game period where maybe you can use him six innings during the course of those three games. I mean, that's something where the Mets obviously felt like they were going to be. They needed him. Maurin that starting rotation, you're right. The curious nature and reeking of desperation is to do it at this stage when they could have done it earlier, when they could have maybe given into his request on the course of the offseason, instead of signing both Porcello Wacha and mates that luego a starter and then maybe added another bullpen arm or two outside of Della Betances. In the off season to try and strengthen that weakness and make great use of what I believe is the second best pitcher on that met team in luego and putting him into the rotation so that I don't know what's he going to be available next time you want to say Okay, Well, he's available for four innings or 70 pitches or 65. Whatever. I mean, what are we going to get from Seth? Luego. Next go around, But, yeah. It was, Yeah, That's where the Mets get themselves into trouble instead, guesstimating the amount of pitches that Lugo's gonna need to get through three innings..

"It backfired down if they agree to go and the Islanders since they've entered this bubble and their eight into they've played for the most part brilliant hockey, especially on five on five. They don't give up goals when it's five. Not many, by the way love not many penalties in his game last night, either was it was a bereft of penalties. Last night was great. No, it was great. It was good to game moved all night long. It was good. Well, it was great for two reasons. Eight moves, so it's better on the ice, and it's better for the Islanders. Joe when they have the man advantage that not taken advantage of it, and you don't want to play shorthanded. I mean, it's it's incredible. Since this post season has begun. When they've played five on five and they play 10 games. Now there's a big sample size. They've only lead 65 on five goals. Six. That's the fewest and that includes teams that were eliminated early on that includes a team like the Rangers. And so it's It really has been remarkable how? How Well, they've played five on five. How brilliant the goaltender was last night. I think in a lot of ways it was finest performance. It was a reminder of what a good job Lou did at the trade deadline, bringing in a guy like Andy Green, who made those two just monstrous plays. And they're off to a great start in this serious and they've picked up right where they left off. Which is? Ah, great. Great sign that they can keep this mojo rolling. Yeah. Hey, look, there's no reason they can't win, man. I mean, look at anybody playing right now on the NHL can win as faras officer. You know, especially in the situation that they're in what they're being, You know, not that home Wise is that big a deal. But with there being absolutely it's just you just playing these games on neutral sites, so it really changes changes everything. You know, Nobody has any kind of an advantage in that regard, So I think we're playing great, though. Man, you really are, I think and then this affects everybody. But I think in a lot of ways have benefited the Islanders, maybe more than most teams. The other thing that's really been greatly affected by this. Is the NHL is a tough, tough season. It's 82 games. You guys play hard guys get hurt. Guys wear down. The Islanders were banged up going into the shutdown in the middle of March. That's a big part of why they were struggling. Getting pelican back has been monstrous, and I got hurt. Last night. They took a shot off his ankle or something large and he might have been a puck off is the line that was nerve racking, but luckily he's okay. Right, right. Even if it's not just recovering from an injury because guys have had four months to recover its the wear and tear of a long season that you've sort of taken out. I mean, you've kind of taken that away because March in February That's a long time ago. And is no travel. Yeah, not that, you know. Looks Philadelphia. Tio. Ah, Long Island is not, you know, brutal, but there's just no travel it all you know. Well, you know, I was I was thinking about this last night. You're right. It's not a bad trip, but think about You're done with the game and you walk. How many feet to get to your hotel and go to bed as opposed to all right? I gotta get on Amtrak or a plane, right? They take right. It still is when you think about it a much bigger deal. Where were you? We think New York to fairly well, It's not that long to the travellers in that bag right? That travel isn't that bad, But they're just going right back in their hotel going to sleep now and safety with the N B. A. I think that's a big fact that there's absolutely no Kenny Smith even said it. Yes. There. We had him on. I mean, they're just There's no travel. I mean, that's that's a huge part of of this thing, no doubt about it a great win for the Islanders. They're off to a fast start. They're gonna have to deal with back to back now. That wire's obviously, too is that game tomorrow is an afternoon game at three and what they say at night on Thursdays at night the next day, so it's back to back, but they do give him a kind of a couple of Game six and seven. If it gets that far would also be backto back. Yes, And that was the plan in the first round, where six and seven would have been back to backs that we're the only schedule back to backs at the Islanders, and the Flyers had In this round, and a part of it is they're trying to move this thing along, which is understandable. Surely, you know a little bit, of course. So we'll have a back to back between Game two and Game three. But great start for the Islanders. I spent A few minutes before he went on the air watching fine manager of the Mets, Louise RoHaas, meet the media with a zoom call, and there's a couple of things I'll start to the thing that's going to take you off the most. That Rob's not pitching today is that the ground's not pitching. How is he not pictured the ground today? Especially in this ice cold? I know gazelle, but I think it's picture wanted two games, right? No, no, Seth Luego is pitching one of my God. You know that's ridiculous. And who's teaching the other game? Well, Rick pour Sello is going to pitch Game one. And Seth Luego is going to pitch Game two. And Jacob deGrom is going to pitch tomorrow. The reason Louise RoHaas gave for why he made this decision was Jake needed tohave a bullpen day yesterday. So even though Jake could've pitched today he wanted to pitch today. Why not give him an extra day and to keep or sell Owen Luego Khan on the schedule that they had prior to the shutdown, and I got a smile on my face. But it's an anger smile because I think it's ridiculous to go should not be starting. And when you have an opportunity you have to Graham actually, maybe pitch a complete game seven innings without having to worry about the bullpen and you have them online and we've talked about for the Yankees on Sunday. It makes absolutely no sense at all..

"He's just a weird dude man. Hey, good for the game, but he's weird. Takes played golf with them and and and not even with numbers in the sign, like the mad scientist, I think that's great. The guy's just kind of a jerk, sometimes unnecessarily to people who deserve to be treated better. Yeah, like, you know, camera people and and and rules, officials. Come on, You know, it's funny. We're supposed to be talking baseball here. But we get on golf, Ted, because beat and I love golf. You know, we both suck at it. But I did play with him. And one of the things that's so interesting is that he's calculated like the guy who cuts down all of his his his irons so that the same length to his seven iron because that's the club he it's the best, and it's just the lost that's different, and that's how he gets extra distance. Not that he needs extra ditches because he's driver pitching wedge, basically everything because he hits the ball 3 50 But I think he's calculated and how he plays and I can't help but speculate. I don't know this for certain speculate that he's calculated on how he's presenting himself as of late because when I played with a BT This was at the vault's bar. Open down in Tampa involve my brother is a part of. Yep. He's on the board of the vaults bar in his Brooke, which is the club that they play it and, you know, he sticks me with Bryson like those to be fun. And Ronnie was like, Yeah, your geek. You'll like talkinto him way had this great conversation. Good man, and it was just he was cool. He was chill. He was nice to everybody was giving guys pointers. Great. This is a non competitive if it were playing it because it's a celebrity am But it was, like, two years later, you start to see all this. First of all, get big and then he started to see all of this like antagonistic behaviour, and I can't help but think that that's calculated. I've obviously got big calculate because he was bored of this game, and he wanted to crush it so calculated. He goes off on a rules official, Maybe calculated, he says, odd, like weird if he wants to live to 140 calculated because I think he's trying to create this villain. I mean, it's working. It's working, and maybe it doesn't make golf more interesting. Of course it does, eh, So if it's making golf more interesting, and making us interested in him, got one tour one win on the tour this year. I mean, it's worth it. Right. Let's not say this. If he doesn't he could drive it. 3 90 doesn't tighten up that pitching, which you don't win anything, but that's right. We'll keep an eye on the golf for you. Tickets here to hear on the fat 877337 66 66. Okay, we'll get to the Yankees a little bit. Let's jump into the Mets here. Boy. The Mets needed that crisp, crisp, crisp all around, buttoned up game and they got it. That's the positive and you know what this is. I don't want to set it up like there's a negative coming, but Here's the reality of of the 2020 New York Mets. And I think most even the most ardent, you know, objective Mets fan would have to agree with this assessment. One night they're gonna catch the ball One night. The defense is gonna be pours one night taking a mash One night. They're gonna look impotent. One night, the pens gonna melt one light depends gonna be solid. You know, there's outside of the Yankees and the Dodgers and the twins, who are already plus 30 in run differential. Twins again, Machin Those other teams that are in that second or thirds. Here. There's just going to be wildly fluctuating performances and met fans You better be prepared for because that's what you get in the season. Yeah, and I mean, that's what you had to expect. We know how good the starting rotation is for the mess, but it's really what the bullpen does. And what did I What if I slack you today? Like all hail Luego if they get two innings in relief, and that's how you dalit up. You get seven out of your starting bordello and all of a sudden you get your bullpen and you don't have to take him out. If if you're in the game the way it's supposed to be ended, and you feel good about the rebound game after all the things that have gone on earlier this week with the New York Mets, but The question that will perpetually have. Is it sustainable for New York? And will we get this type of bullpen? You know, I guess perfect existence. Yeah, consistency going for luego. You will, But But until talent you can't pitch every night. I mean, he's getting six outs. That's right is not the closer you but but maybe should be given how he played last night. But that's the thinking of a met, right. That's the first thing I thought it was like. Maybe Luego should be the guy that closes gave from now on, but still That that's what you're going to get O. I think all season long with the meds, but you, but you can't. That was my point between. You can't win that way when there's not a plan, and you're just kind of haphazardly jumping into the scenario that work best last time, you're going to get yourself in trouble. Yeah, I mean, there's a lot of different theories and you and I talked about this nationally. Obviously, when we start to project ahead like artist 60 game season, my thought was the teams who At least on paper have Maur flaws than the Yankees. The Dodgers that twins the A's or good, we continue..

"We don't have the luxury of time. But see if you People are his first save of the year. He blows it looks like here. 2nd 1 Well, the promise you can you can you, Seth Luego as you would a normal closer. That's the issue. Right on. Because he's got restrictions. Got a partial tear of the UCL. It's hard to sort of in that rolling. You can't do it. There were limitations. I mean, you know, there's a year ago. I mean, Chris, I mean, there were limitations on Seth Luego a year ago, the limitations air still there. He will eventually wants to be a starter. You can't use him. Like you would a traditional closer. You just can't. They had restrictions on him and no one's disagreeing with you about luego what it could be and how good of an army is. I think he's the second best pitcher on the team. What? Given those limitations. That's why you're seeing and given the investment that the general manager hasn't Edwin D. As let's not forget about that. I mean they are. He's a guy that's connected. We talked about Robby Cano, but he's also heavily connected here to have Wendy has now. They're not going to fly away and let Diaz implode their year. Ah, you know, cooler heads will prevail. But that is a factor here. They want to see Edwin Diaz succeed and give him every opportunity to be successful. But the limitations on Lugo's an issue Well, The thing is, maybe these labels are going away. We talked to more courage yesterday from the athletic A good point. You know, maybe the labels are going away where you're not just using luego as you're closer or whatever and putting that label autumn. You're using him, whatever he's a available and B What's the highest leverage situation? We saw it two nights ago in Boston. The highest leverage situation for logo was that they needed him to come in and close out that game for them. Once they were up, seven nothing at one point, and then it became 7 to 4 and things got a little bit too comfortable. So you needed Seth luego at that point, And maybe because most if you have set Luego as your quote unquote closer, you also need someone else who can close out games because of the limitations that he has All right, but that's where you know you do have Edwin Diaz and you do have Delon Betances. But you you don't know when the highest leverage to Chul you might look at the seventh inning as being the highest leverage situation and all of a sudden you use that luego and then the night Then it comes up and you can't have anybody close out the game, So it's easy to say. Look at that and say, Well, this is the way I'm going to use luego or we're going to be. You know, we're gonna look at the matchups and we're going to be open and nobody's gonna have set rolls. Well, that's easy to say. But, you know, guys do settle into roles as we've seen historically in Major league baseball. We all understand the brilliance of luego here. I looked at him. I think his future is going to be in a starter. And I think because of those limitations, it's hard to cement him in as being the quote unquote closer, Let's head out to Rockland County. It's Rob. It's the family's going on, Rob. Not much. Listen, I agree with you are moose hitting hitting people is never going to go anywhere, and I also agree with you, Maggie. You know the head. It's just not called for and quickly on luego. You know, you can't have luego started, you know, going 56 innings and in the book and, you know, just blown the game. I think he's way more valuable in the bullpen, you know, going out there to three times a week. And ah, and securing the way you know, as opposed to every five days. Just ahead. Well, just have somebody are relieved coming and blow the game. But you're so not a failure. But you're also assuming failure in that argument, So no one's going to disagree with you if you're going to tell me Yes, Luego gives you six grade innings But then Edwin Diaz implodes and they end up losing the game. Will rob. I mean, your answers are going to take the drops stars that you're you're basically you're you're leading the jury there to reach only one conclusion. You're dead on correct Now it could work out another way to right. I mean, there's a way where Seth Luego pitches really, really well, the offense hits and the bullpen doesn't implode and you have a solid number two starter. You could go down that path as well. Rob I'm gonna strongly implode then. Yes, I agree with you. Rather do we have enough time to go through the psyche of Mets fans when it comes to bullpen situations and wife at some point or conditioned to think that the worst is going to happen. Hey, sweetie. Murdy is going to join us next. We're gonna get the latest on what the Yankees have been dealing with over the last 48 hours or so They will take the field in Baltimore tonight. "A visit window robin dot com So the Mets needed some lousy damaging to really wait the bats up and they did really, with only two of the pictures that they saw last night that you made his first major league start longtime reliever And then Jeffrey Springs. They hit the three home runs, which gave him all their runs. Conforto hit that bomb. Tom Smith and the robot home run really were all bombs in many ways. The only negative is that after that, I think it was once heat. Embry came in the game in the fourth inning. The bats went to sleep. What forces for shutout innings? I think he threw last night after the fourth inning. I did nothing. I think they've got maybe one or two. It's after that, that maybe we've got a hit in the ninth inning. And you were you were you were a little concerned. I mean, obviously, Walker was terrific. I mean, you take away only pitched five innings, but you give up that one homerun with seven. Nothing leader had no issue with that. Kemal and I thought he pitched really well. I thought that was good to see. I thought Shreve pretty well. I give up the homerun tube again had a big lead solo home run, And then that was all he gave up. After that it was to a Bogart's So I thought he did a good job familiar, obviously was not good. Those typical unless I mean you just right now. It's so far. It's gone. Toil. Okay, Pretty much, you know, familiar, and D as Yu right now, Through four games, you say I got no confidence in them. And obviously you got complete confidence in set Luego and again. I liked what we saw from chasing Shreve last night, but that was okay. I don't know what he is yet, but I thought he did a decent job. He stinks. Don't get used to it, but he put up a wall of saying is you get a decent job last night over? Sure, sure. I'm not going to kill him for last night. But he's not a major league pitcher. Onion what you are right that the relievers from last year basically doing the same thing. Justice Wilson's off to a good start South. Lu goes off to a brilliant start and after familiar and Diaz gave you little tease with their first performances. Their second performances have been awful. I mean, yesterday familiar comes in with a big lead. He walks J. D. Martinez on five pitches. Endeavors rips that double and in Lugo's gonna bail him out. Yeah, And so you're forced in a game in which I thought in the fourth inning. This could be a laugher. This could be the opposite of the night before. You know, they're up seven. Nothing. The Red Sox deep into their bullpen. They've got no arms. Walker looks great. This could be last night Reverse. And while they won the game, and that's great, but it wasn't it turned into a relatively close game to the point where Louise RoHaas needed luego to get four outs. He ends up going 22 pitches. So who knows about his availability today? But the reason I'm not surprised RoHaas went toe walk, it went toe logo is at the early returns on Louise RoHaas. Is that he is not afraid to know, veteran like Robinson Cano and basically tell him with his actions. You're not the same Robby Cano. Well, I didn't hear this said, but when he said it, roll us, But what did the guy said it last night? Maybe was Gary met one of them. That when Roland's got here, he basically said, You're gonna have to check your ego at the door and, you know, so far we have seen that. I mean, you didn't play suspicious last night he's dropping when I was to me could know doesn't play tonight. If you're going to take somebody out of the lineup tonight, I would sicken. Oh, Play McNeil. It's second base. Put Dom in left field. J D Place. Third cess pit is th is that would be me tonight? Yeah, I'm not sure I would, though, how he's going to act because there's a left hander on the mound today bought, you know he wasn't afraid from starting Dom Smith yesterday. So you gotta level the amount I'd rather see. Don Smith it then it will Smith at the home run off a left yesterday, did no, I know. I got to see Smith play then. Cono could also hit anybody right now. And Robby Cano is not completing games, which I think meant as I've been finishing the game's defensively now weaken, you know, kind of second guess and I'm still kind of debating when is the right time to go to the defense of alignment. When you're only off by a run? We saw that the Saturday game was quick and Yoda was quick. He was quick is in the eighth inning in that game with the Mets only up by a run. Here's Jake Marisnick getting an at bat. Here's Andres Jimenez getting an at bat, but what I like and I think this is why I was confident He's not going to be married to Diaz. Is that he's hitting Robinson Cano seventh and pulling him in latent games for defense. Let that marinate your head for a little bit. Robbie Conal, who's making $20 million a year. You know that big trade that Brody made a year and 1/2 ago. He's batting seven, though, and being pulled for defense. Wait, son. It's only four games again. Don't you know? Four games. The early for GAM. Return on Louise Roll Haas to me is positive. Right now and here. I think this guy's got a chance to be a good manager. I think he's got a chance now. I'm not saying he's going to be saying that through the 1st 4 games based on somebody stuff you're talking about Robby what he did last night, but it was not seen the as. You know, even sitting says finish yesterday, which turned out to be the right move because don Smith's it's a three run, alma, you know, so I s so far. You know, I like what I see from Roz so far. Yeah, And I think he's gotta use a luego. Not as the quote unquote closer, but is the guy you bring into a game in the biggest spot of the game? It's justice was that cannot be in the rotation. I mean, I understand and the kids going Peterson against is going to pitch tonight. Joan. I've heard a lot of people say divergence on different places. I will see the names of the guys that I've heard say, but you know, Luego should be in a rotation. He's the second best picture on a team. You know what? That's why I want him in his bullpen because he's so versatile in the bullpen. He's the one guy in a bullpen. Deny Guy have confidence in if you had to go two, maybe even three innings. On and and so I need him, especially in the state of the game today. What good is luego going out there and pitching five tremendous innings, you know, or six innings like match there the other day and then at the end of the day, he added that the end of the day the bullpen winds up giving a game up. You know that that's that's me. And I set my mind in this season with the way this team is built with the lack of trust in the arms that they have. That's where he makes the most sense. No question. Is it a different debate in 2021? It may be it may be, But right now I know I know it's only two games in terms of how much they've pitched. Nothing has changed with generous Familia. Ned Windy, has not looked at the two games Theywant. To me. It's no coincidence where Luca was involved. Yeah. And look last night in the eighth inning after Mitch Moreland got that R B I single to make it a 74 game That was the biggest pot of the game. And that's where you you, Seth Luego, and sometimes the biggest spot in the game is going to be in the sixth inning. Sometimes it's going to be in the eighth inning. That's when you You said he's already shown you not just this year in a couple of games, but last year Put him in a big spot. You can trust him to get a big out now. The question's going to be, though, Joe. He threw 22 pitches last night tonight, especially when you've got a kid making his major league debut. You're probably not. Getting a lot of innings out of Peterson will see Is he able to go backto luego tonight? And if so, let's say he is in the game. How much can he actually picked? You probably wouldn't get more of it than it ending on a luego tonight. So if you want to use Luego tonight is the closer strict ninth inning closer. I got no problem with that. We'll come right back and get your calls. 877337 66 66 Mark Find San will join us. Albert Breer will join us. "66. That is you're a number to call. Let's head out Tio Jersey it Steve. It's the family's going on, Steve. A guy's been on the show. You'll do a great job. Thank you, Steve. So is it just me or I remembered like Ludo. You know, when he became a starter, I think 16 then he had like a partially torn UCL or something like that. He does. That's why these restrictions correct. Right. So I mean, I would like to see him in the starting rotation, too. But at same time, what happens if he goes out? He's gonna throw more innings. If he's in the starting rotation, and then he goes on his arm. You can use him in all this. But you could go there that round. Well, that's why they have the restrictions or what's better for his arm. I mean, I can't answer to you win. That arm is going to give away. I mean, there. There are restrictions to it s. So Are you going to tell you that with Tanaka for a really long time to say that it's been fine. Bright eyes use in the bullpen or the fact that he knows when he's going to pitch and pitching every fifth day, which is going to be worse in on the wear and tear. Now he's a guy that's openly said that he wants to be a starter, and I think, ultimately at the end I mean, Seth Luego at some point in this Met career is gonna be transitioned into the starting rotation because that's where guys get paid. I mean, sent Luego ultimately wants to make money. I mean, being 1/6 and seventh inning guy or eighth and a guy or a closer at times, I mean, even as valuable as he might be. With the wear and tear on the arm. I mean, you're going to maximize your value as a reliever. Ifyou're used, especially if you're a closer that can't be used like normal closers could be used. I understand you got to write by the player eventually, too, right? I mean, you know, using them in special to roll for a couple years. You want to be sorry. Want to get paid, But I mean, I just, You know, I'm afraid of not being on using first of season. You know, most you're acting like you know, Mats and Walker when I would have horrible outings their first time around. I mean, I'm not saying one of not at number two, but I mean, they're absolutely useful, you know? So I'm not saying that I think in the bullpen, but let me ask you this. Let me ask you that question. Where are they useful at when you look at the expectations. For both pictures. The realistic expectations. I'm not telling you that Walker can't be useful, and I think Marcello will be bounced back. But look at where everyone gets moved up here. In in this met rotation after the Stroman injury, so mats instead of being a three is now a two Guac instead of being a five is now four poor cellos. Now, all of a sudden, you're number three starter. That is not a position of strength when you look at the Mets and the starting rotation, undetermined number five starter I think it's going to be Anderson tonight, but the Mets have yet to make that declaration against the Boston Red Sox. That's not exactly a position of strength. Think about how much better that rotation looks. If I go to Graham Luego mats, walking Torsello or pour Sello Wacha, whatever it might be, But if I just have that top two combination off the Graham and Lugosi I look at that is being more valuable. It supported contention in a discussion and interesting one. You know, Maggie looks at luego and the creativity and the way that you can use him in that bullpen as being more valuable because the very fact of the uncertainty with the other relievers in the bullpen and I could understand that The bullpen is at issue. I think you know my mind that'll hang up to is we got a game or length out of the starters. Two So we don't have to be going to the bullpen. Old time. So listen. Ah, enjoy the show. Thank you so much. I mean, listen, I think you got to be smart there with the really abbreviated spring training summer camp. Whatever. And I know that guys were still throwing, and that's why the pictures are ahead of the hitters. But most I don't know about you, but this is going back to their opening game. The Cubs had Kyle Hendricks threw a complete game. That's not something I was expecting to see. It's like Whoa, you're throwing a complete gave up on opening day. Like what? And so I think it's good you're getting you know, anywhere between five or six for some of the absolute best pitchers who maybe feels comfortable. They can. Maybe you're getting seven out of somebody. But I think a couple more times to the rotation, which is a bummer for the Mets because the bullpen is shaky and Wiki, but I was not expected guys to be thrown more than five innings anyways. Yeah. I was surprised by that. Now. Hendricks is in store in the game like the Graham did at 99 99 199. 9900 So he's not a power guys. More of a, you know, pinpoint dart thrower. Maximize control, but still yes, I do. It's still and then you saw Craig Kimbrel. Very impressed. Like maybe maybe they don't trust their bullpen. E George is a unique county had George, How are you? Georgie. Hey, so, ah, just just going back to yesterday. I know you talked that solo. Just just want to say it. He sounded very coolest compared to what you guys are staying, So I just want to throw that out that I was on your guest side. Going to the bullpen. Right? George? I'm sorry with regards to what you broke up on us. What was that? I'm sorry. I was saying with that soul. Yesterday was your guy's side? God, that's all you know. He found a little clueless. And I know Joby. You know he he enters shouting master than last year, too, so Anyway, I want to talk about luego. I think he had the Mets performed last year, right? I don't know how many games of the blue but I think we need to keep going the book and there's no way we can take him out because You know it. I think we would have been in the playoffs if he if you no if we won those games, right? No doubt. Definitely. Definitely. So, so I think he needs to stay there. And I think, Maggie you mentioned that you know, are maybe logo can't You know, he can't handle what back to back closing or whatever it may be. But if you start that one Yeah, I'm sorry. When the other caller spoke. I didn't realize that he had that injury. But I regardless, he needs to stay in the bull pen. Because I don't trust you. No strict lander. Oswald and I think the 1,000,000 Diaz should just stay up in Boston because I don't want them back at all. Unfortunately, and thank you, George for the call. Unfortunately. You're going to need everybody. You're gonna need everyone. Now, listen, here's here's a positive spin ideas. You want this one? To trust myself in a pretzel on this one. "Ah, big time, batter or four outs or five outs at a pivotal point of that baseball game. That's the negative off last night. Yes, you have not seen the early returns on familiar not great. The early return on it would Diaz. He is one of two and save opportunities. Not great. You look Adela Betances like I mentioned, I think Betances when he's right is the best that you thinning men in all the major League baseball. They had him in the offseason. Now you get to luego the question. Maggie, is this for met fans out there? What do you value more? If you look at luego because I'd be honest with you, I think right now I could plug Seth luego into that starting rotation. He's my number two starter, and I think that would be a tremendous pair of diagram and luego at the top of my starting rotation. Where I don't have the grave concerns about my starters. I'm not reaching for a starter, you know, first turn through the rotation for my number five spot. I can quell the concern about Poor Selo. I can quell the concern a little bit about the inconsistency with Steven Matz, even though Walker looked very, very good last night, Michael Walk only give you five innings last night. I've been beat down, so you look at it. I think I could plug set, Lou go in, and he's going to be my second best starter on this team. But the question for everybody out there for me. That's what I value more. Out value. Steph Luego as a starter more now, the question for everyone out there would be this. What do you value Seth Luego as Morris because the Mets is an organization clearly clearly value Seth Luego right now, even though he is based publicly come out and said that he wants to be a starter. They value him clearly. Mohr off what he conduce with that bullpen. As a reliever, and I do think that's a mistake. I do think that's a mistake because I think I can get Maura out of Seth Luego as a starter than what I have with the restrictions and the concerns I have off of use of him in that bullpen, even though I know he's going to be a dominant bull pen Reliever. Right. Well, here's the rub. Right? So if you make him a starter, while yes, that does answer a big question mark that you have in your rotation right now, considering there's been injuries, it also answers the question like for a guy who needs rest. Does. It is a starter schedule kind of make sense. You know you could have him go out there empty the tank, and then he's got four days where he could recover and then maybe, you know, and maybe that could work for him, but think about what Mark Eric said when he joined us earlier this hour. You trust luego. You want him in your highest leverage situations. Very rare. You're high leverage situations common in your 1st 456 maybe in the fifth, but very rare that those high leverage situations are common in the early innings of the game, so I think they because they trust him so much he becomes Too important if I can not that Not that starting pitching is an important but in some ways he becomes too important just to use early in the game, So I guess I understand it. The problem is, is that I don't trust yet the back of the bullpen. So I don't know if I could make Seth luego a starter when I like having of their sort of my back pocket to know that he can't come in close games. Three if I need it. The problems aren't open close games two days in a row. I rope in close games two out of three. I don't know if he has the if his arm kid hold up, and he could be used in a way that he could be a closer at a proper sense and listen. That the past was, though approach doesn't seem to work. You know that That's I would say you could. You could deploy him for high level situations. I think that works best those when you have other arms in the bullpen, who you trust Tio. I don't know. Close out a game when it's 72. I I get that, Maggie. But what? How many games that get out of reach early? Are we gonna witness here? Save poor sellers. Next turn through is just as bad, as was his first started the year against the Atlanta Braves. Say Peterson starts tonight. We flip on that baseball game, and it's six nothing red socks in the third inning, and that game is out of reach. One. When do you get to a scenario? Where the pressure point where you look at the starting rotation, which is one point in time was a tremendous strength. Now you've got a ridiculous weakness in there, and I don't disagree. Listen Seth Luego is so good everything when Gary Keith and Ron were were speaking so glowingly of luego at the end of the game last night, it's true. He's a strike thrower. He has tremendous work ethic. He works quickly, darling pointed out. If you're a young pitcher, look at the way that luego handles himself on the mound. This is the way you want to conduct yourself as a professional. He is at the top of his craft right now. I would me personally, I need a guy that I can lean on in that starting rotation. I do. Even the walker look good last night. I need to see a little bit more. I have concerns about Rick Porcello. We've talked about how many times we have floods. Well, not even just before, even before that. I mean, I think he is what he is..

"Good Thursday to one and all. Moussa, Maggie, Mark looses Maggie Gray with you mon. So back at the shop 3 45 Hudson Christmas monocle as well as we roll right up until two. Joe and Evan do come your way, then. Opening night. Happy opening night, everyone out there and I gotta be honest. Yeah, I am. I am so excited that baseball is back and that is returning and you're going to give Yankees and gnats and then the Dodgers in play late and you get a double header tonight And then the rest of league opens up tomorrow. Maggie and With that, and we'll get into Yankees. That's we've got a cavalcade of baseball guest for you, Ron Darling will join us. C. J. Nitkowski, Sweeny Murti later on this hour as well to talk a little Yankees baseball, so we'll get you prepped. We got some predictions as well, coming your way a little bit later on in the program. We'll get to the Yankees here momentarily because you got to kick off the program this morning talking about the Mets and the news that came down after Eddie called in to us yesterday, where, after the RoHaas zoom call that Louise said that Marcus Stroman was dealing with a little bit of a catfish you news comes out later on in the afternoon. That Stroman as a slight tear in that CAF we're going week to week placed on the injured list was Marcus Stroman penciled in to be the number two starter, We know contract year, acquired by Brody from Toronto a year ago to kind of Stem the what was going to be the perceived an actual loss of Zack Wheeler and free agency didn't pitch particularly well as a Met wasn't nearly what he was, is a blue Jay in the first half last year, and you're expecting good things from Stroman and Senate Linen right behind Jacob deGrom's You're Number two starter and now you throw that up against the wall because you have no idea Exactly when that calf will heal, RoHaas said. We're going to take a week to week and now the Mets have gotta starting rotation issue as dominant as as as loaded at one point in time. Is the Mets starting rotation Wass, You look at this rotation now. And it's to Graham and it's mats and its Wacha and its poor celo. And then it's unknown. I mean, as it stands right now, so that is not exactly the way that you want to start off the regular season. If you're the Mets, it is terrible news. There's no other way to cut it. When you look back on that deal by brought in that wagon, and I'm not going to kill him. You can't destroy him for injury. What they gave up. Other people around Major League Baseball were ticked off that they didn't have to give up all hell of a lot in order. Get Marcus Stroman, so he tried to be aggressive, tried to be ahead of the curve. In that move. The Stroman injury now for the Mets, with this rotation, compounded with the Syndergaard injury. It's an absolute disaster. Well, Can you blame this one on 2020 right? Because this is just here We go again with the Mets, and you're always waiting for this bad injury news to happen. We have already called me yesterday. Most. You're right. We're talking about Louise RoHaas and Eddie say, you know, it's just calf tightness. You know, and calf tightness of these day to day and then just a mere hours later, it's like now, actually, it's a terror of the caf. And you always hate to see what a doctor's quoted in The New York Post today, calling the injury quote unquote daunting. Now Marcus Stroman himself has taken to Twitter. He said that it's really minor setback. He doesn't even feel it when he's pitching. It's really just when he's running. He has to be 100% before you get back out on the field, But he doesn't see it as a major setback, but It's hard to look at it any other way in a 60 game season because the depth is immediately going to be tested, and, honestly, the options that the Mets have are not really all that appealing. Quite frankly, Corey Oswald. We just saw him against the Yankees. That that that good last year IRA over five you have David Peterson. Never pictured the majors so he could be high, and he could be a breakout star. This year. It's possible, but he's still a massive question. Mark let alone Ah, former Cy Young winner pour Sello and a former Siri's EVP and walk a postseason. Siri's EVP and Wacha, who we still thought were question marks and Steven Matz is a It could be a head case at times, and he struggles with his confidence. So you know, it's a real kick in the teeth here for, you know, feeling really positive about the Mets and feeling really positive the start of the season, But I just need somebody to answer the question. About why the hesitancy is there for Seth Luego, too? Try to get stretched out. To become a starter or As close as he can get to be being a starter for the Mets this year, because to me, it makes all the sense in the world rather than go with someone unproven and You're going to be asking a lot of one of these young guys rather than do that. Because if I'm not mistaken, didn't Rossmore Ramirez get put that he didn't even make the 30 man So if you are asking me what Who do I trust? And in the 60 game season that's going to be who do you trust? I trust Luego trust logo in local can't pitch back to back days. Mean Heap it. He did it seven times last year. They like himto have days off, or they have in the past. Like the death days off in between his relief appearances. It just seems like a good idea for logo to be that guy to try, Tio Patch things up right now. And he gives me confidence that the fifth starter is it going to be one massive question, Mark? Why don't you screw the about Luego and I tweet out as much yesterday? The problem you have is you hit upon it is stretching them out. I mean, the organization didn't lead or he'd ah, the coal from Luego after last season that he wants to be a starter. We talked to set Luego down in Port ST Lucie in early March. We're down there right before the pandemic hit Maggie and You know, he wants to clearly obviously be a starter. He understands it. Listen, you could only make so much money. Doing what he does on a day in day out basis over the course of 162 game season, right if you're in the bull pen, you want to either be a closer or if you're in that bullpen. Certainly you could make a good living, but ifyou're luego and you've got the talent that he has, and you can pitch back to back to back days, given the reservations that the organization has regarding your elbow in your arm. Then I don't understand why you would not plug him into the starting rotation. You want to be a close. You want to be a starter just as Java Chamberlain. That was the police that he had way back when when he was a Yankee, So we all understand that we get an I grew there. The problem his time. I mean, that's the issue. I mean, the reservation of the Mets have clearly when you know they decided not to not to go in that direction and give luego an opportunity to start this year by bringing in, walk it and pour Sello even though he was on record, saying that he wants to be a starter. They did not want to They did not want to further weakened what was perceived and what was, in actuality, a weakness a year ago because luego was fantastic. It was one of the best relievers at all the major league baseball year ago coming out of that bullpen with that being said you did at Della Betances, whose fastball does look live. When we have seen him on occasion here, coming off that slight tear of his Achilles tendon to the back into the bullpen, you're gonna need Edwin D. As at some point to bounce back and show a little bit of life after a pathetic performance in 2019 and then you got familiar who people are speaking glowingly about as well. So my question is. Where is Seth Lugo's Mohr? Where is he? More important right now. When you're dealing with this Is he more important plugging him in as a starter. The issue is you got to stretch them out, which is going to take some time because that can't happen overnight. That's not going to be a two or three day process for Lou Go to be properly stretched out. So you don't you don't put him in harm's way and risk. Any sort of injury time is something the Mets don't have. That is. What I think ultimately would probably stand in the way here of Luego is that he's not properly stretched out. But I grew the he's the most viable option When you're looking at the options to replace Marcus Stroman in the starting rotation, the best got to do it would be Seth Luego, and I think he pretty proved to be more valuable as a starter. Given the limitations that you haven't Maggie, you're right. We do have questions. I mean, let's be realistic here. Oh, the method Metsa one point in time at a starting rotation with the Graham and Syndergaard and Zack Wheeler and Mats and Matt Harvey..
