Don't picked up by Alex to break it. Would pass up the right wing Patrick Kane at center ice. Just suitor over the jackets. Lined is your door after cane right circle, and he backhands went in on goal. The three onto its fedoras Backhand pass was not in the wheelhouse. So Patrick Kane had to stick handle that to try and make a play. After that. Here's New York strands carrying out a stripped of the puck inside the jackets lined by the Hawks, Monty, is he and Mark Then Bjork's Strand got it back, flips it ahead. Alexandre Tex EA will stick it down the boards in behind the hawk net. Lincoln and out to play it into the near corner. "Welcome back to the Fanjuls Sports Book. Chicago Blackhawks pregame show Chris Boden with you as we continue getting set for the rematch between the Black Hawks and the Nashville Predators at Bridgestone Arena in Music City, who My banking on is sponsored by Marquette Bank, Love your Bank, Wake up to a better way to bank with Marquette Bank and Fun rewards. I'm gonna bank on Patrick Kane tonight. He was electric over the weekend. In those two wins over Detroit. They had himself a down night last night for whatever reason, zero shots on goal and he knows it. Usually he is very much aware of those kind of nights where he has a quiet one per se, and he was also on the ice for the game winning goal. But I expected Patrick Kane to come out and play large here tonight in the rematch against the Nashville Predators. Some other Blackhawks News Little bit earlier on. We already knew that Adam broke. Listen, Alex to break it. We're in covert 19 protocol. The Hawks have added Lucas WalMart to that list as well and once again the definitions of those as determined by the NHL, sharing the names of players unavailable to the club to practice to travel or playing games, and such protocol related absences can result from a number of factors, including among others, and initial positive test, which remains unconfirmed until confirmatory testing is complete pursuant to positive Test protocol also mandated isolation for symptomatic individuals pursuing two positive test protocol required quarantine as a high risk close contact in accordance to their protocol. Also, another option could be isolation based on a confirmed positive test result. And our quarantine for travel. Or other reasons again as outlined in covert 19 protocol. None of those further details are given. All we know is that Wal Mart joins the brink it and bow qu'est in that cove. It 19 protocols. Some other news today. The Rockford Icehogs opened training camp just a couple of days ago, and they had themselves an exhibition today against the Chicago Wolves. Over in Hoffman Estates. Chad Chris opened the scoring on the power play goal early, but that's all the scoring that happened for them as they ended up losing to the wolves by a final count of 6 to 1, Scotty Darling, who is getting a player tryout contract. With the wolves are rather with the ice dogs who are kind of beaten up at the goaltending position. Hey, started out made six made 16 saves on 17 shots. But then the wolves variable open things up against Kill Morris, the former Notre Dame ER, who allowed five goals on 25 shots, some other NHL news today. Rather surprising news out of Pittsburgh that 71 year old general manager Jim Rutherford decided to resign for personal reasons. No other reasons given other than it is not health related. He took over that job back in 2014 and helped lead the Penguins to the Stanley Cups in 16 and 17. So Jim Rutherford is out, and his assistant GM Patrick L. Wien, will take over some. There's only one other game in the NHL Tonight. Now is a rematch between Ottawa and Vancouver. They played a couple of days. It's a go in the Canucks getting a much needed victory over the struggling sense. 7 to 1 was the final score on money that only improved the connection record 23 and five auto a meantime, drops to 14 and one is we get to the back to this game between the Blackhawks in the national Predators. Hawks, looking to score for a a straight game out of the gate on the power play right now seven in a row to start a season is second all time. To the 11 consecutive games back in the 90 91 season ox power play now nine for 21. They also killed off all four penalties called against them last night, although I'm sure Jeremy Carlton still wants that number to go down after Five trips to the box in the victories both Friday and Sunday against the Detroit Red Wings. Meantime, that Predators penalty kill is now just 12 for 22 on the season, so the Hawks need to feast on that with every opportunity they get over the present only called for two penalties last night. And that Preds power play is just two for 24. While the Blackhawks go with Kevin Lincoln in Nashville will go with you see sorrows in that he is two and two on the year so far with a 3.2 goals against average and lifetime against the Blackhawks. Oh, into with a 3.68 goals against an 8 77 save percentage and it looks like as the lineups are presented here this evening by Jeremy Collinson. Troy alluded to this earlier. He is going to go with seven defenseman so Lucas Carlsson remains in the lineup tonight as well. Nicolas Bohdan will be 1/7 defenseman Matthew Highmore, who got back in the lineup last night. Will draw out S O Bohdan can go back into the lineup as the Blackhawks looks to get a victory. Get back in the wind Come as they enter this 123 and two good for six points on the season and look to get back in the wind come for their first Victory on the road so far this year. That's a wrap for the Fanjuls Sports book, Chicago Blackhawks pregame show. Thank you for joining us. Stick around straight ahead. It's my partners in wardrobe. John Wadham. Enjoy. Marie give you the call from Nashville. Next on 7 20, WGN. Had food bags air covered in pretty pictures of healthy food. But the highly processed pellets inside are far from it. "I am oil coming to you from the first Midwest Bank studios. And it is our pleasure to bring in Mark Lazarus Senior rider from the athletic. Both He and Scott powers and And Johnny Puck. Is that what you call Greenberg? Johnny Puck? Something like that. Mark. I believe Johnny pucks with Johnny. Fuck. Got it, mister. Mark joins us now. On the Corona hotline. Good morning, Marco, are you Well, appreciate the Pearl Jam Insurer. Thanks for that. Well, let's let's get into this hockey team. So what you saw over the last few weeks They were in pretty much They still have their defensive issues that we saw. We saw the power play still struggle to find some consistency. We saw great, Cory steal a game steal too. And you know, we saw guy also that was shaking off the rust after having dealt with covert 19 and very little training camp. So kind of where do you Where do you stand up on where the this franchise is at at this point. Well, I think they have made progress. I mean, this is the first time we really got to see a fully healthy black Hawks team that we expected to see way back and you know September because of all the injuries, they had your Calvin Mahan and Andrew Shaw and Seabrook and we got to figure out how Sean Seabrook's fit into this team next year. But we saw team progressive team that was started out the season pretty bad as complete with order and then got decent by the end of the year and then let go even better against Edmonton. It's still a team that I don't see the path to Stanley Cup contention yet and with the flat cap. I don't know how they get to that point. But right now Elizabeth team that can fight for the eighth seed the seven seas in the playoffs next year. I just I don't know what the path is for this team to really become great again. And that's disconcerting when you're just kind of stuck in that mushy middle and you're gonna be you know, the Minnesota wild with better star power. For the next three or four years. That's that's not where they want to be. And they have to figure out what the direction here is because they're three years away from being able to tear it down to the studs and rebuild. And at that point, it'll be what eight years They want a family cup and you know, the fans are going to get restless. They're already there. So mark. If the moves we're going to be mostly internal, barring some big trade, where you free up much more cap space Guys like Ian Mitchell make, you know, make the team and make them a better team. I mean, just Lucas Carlsson get that much better again don't even know who's going to be between the pipes. But, you know, indicate a bubble team at best next year going into next season is that with margin of error or is that everything has to go perfect for them to get that sort of three seats. I don't know about perfect, but I have to go pretty well. They got the talent and, yeah, I do think Ian Mitchell will make a difference. I think you're going to see him on Duncan Keith Side, sparing not Adam Bocas Bocas kind of took a step back here in the playoffs. I was dying away from contact was a little overwhelmed by Vegas or check he but he's got. He's got a lot of time. He was 20 years old until the year before. He was supposed to be Napoleon fire, I think, eventually planning more reliable defensive presence. That really sounds like Lucas Karl's a lot. There's a lot selective A Where do you fit these guys? If they ever come back the palace which is can't buy you don't buy out or trade only model who You know that seem to be an obvious thing to do, but he was also your best defenseman in the playoffs. They have a lot of questions that people have a ton of guys later, Kuku turned into a pretty solid player down the stretch, and you want him to be your number seven. I admitted on the creation to But if you also want to get Carlos from their vigilance focused their Alec Regula is a guy that's a potential back there. You know. Where do you 50 guys? Facility contract. That's the problem with that last head and he took on a ton of guys with terms that our God is with you, young man. Did you want to really have you know that development? You got all these batteries blocking the path? So these are the decisions. We're going to have to make the sauce, not just wait. Young players are going to play. But Hollywood Alright, So, with that being said, do they need to consider moving a core player? And when you look at me again, I know they have no movement clauses. Brandon Saad does not have one so you could move him and his $6 million deal. But when you look at it, I mean Seabrook's is pretty much unmovable unless you pick up at least two thirds of it. But I'm sure other teams want to see him play to find out how all that those three surgeries went. Duncan Keith looks like a possible Peace that would be of value at $5.5 million. Paired with the right D man on a good team. I think he's still Ah, solid three in this league a maybe. Or maybe a four. But he's definitely he's definitely minimum. The second pairing guy, and there's days where he still looks like a top pairing guy. Yeah, right. The black ones don't have someone to replace him right now, though. I mean, if there really are some kind of Success next year. They weren't like every year. They're not least concede that you don't get that set on trying class next year. You don't get better by training. You don't get better by trading Brandon Saad again. I don't want the direction of the franchise is there is some kind of tasks you open space. But you know what? That space won't be lost response or opening up cap space to go on. It's fine guys place in with, so I'm not sure one moment What Danny works wants to do here because of a very difficult to move those guys. Even Keith, I don't think she's more of a deadline trade to me that a greater if you're going to go take that drastic step. Every time I talk to don't keep about this. He wants to win another Stanley Cup with the Black Hawks that he doesn't want to go through a rebuilding process. But you know what? Put Mark He's in a rebuilding process, and that's the reality. Is he, though? I mean, are they really rebuilding? Or they just kind of making tweaks and getting young guys in the lineup? Well, that's what I want. It's I mean it running in place there, you know, like you didn't read wings are rebuilding and it's awful. It's a terrible, terrible process. The black holes are not rebuilding it. We put it. They're tweaking there. They're bringing over. They stole the tapes came saw Sabre teeth. Crawford, this is not a rebuilding team. This is a team trying to make one last run at it. They're going to get one more bite of the apple here. They're not and they can't reach 2023 22 2020 for you. When you came to the brink. It'll come off the books. You sit back and reassess, really decide what you want to do with the franchise, But this is not a rebuilding team. If they can be when you have that many, you know, high priced veterans on your franchise. Mark is Jeremy Colistin coach that Khun developed talent if it's there Or and or is he a coach that behind the bench can can win you games in Siri's in in a playoff if you get back there on an annual basis He's definitely a coach that can develop guys. I mean, he deserves a lot of credit, and we get a lot of crap from all from fans, and that's understandable..

"When you look at the serious that they played against sandals a way back in 10. You look at all these just the little things that made the difference in the game. We're going Blackhawks ways and they were kind of imposing their will in their style and listen, we've got Kane and tapes and all these guys that could score the goals when when we need him to score him. The Blackhawks need to have that mental toughness that they did before, even though they don't have the personnel and the confidence that's a bad word to use the The type of players that they had, where they're able to dominate. And if you're Patrick Kane, you're trying to create something. But when you're playing Vegas, they're big. They're physical. They take away time in space. I thought that he was much more. Focused in what he was doing. A couple nights ago, he was engaged more He was the one that was forcing them to try and adjust to him. And I think that's what you have to have that mental toughness to play through the bad times and wait for those opportunities. And when you do make it count, and that's what Vegas has been able to do so far in this series that serious against Edmonton averaged 8.5 minor penalties called per game. So it was a special teams bonanza, whether you like it or not, but through two games in about seven minutes of overtime so far in this series I've been a total of seven miners called even though this is a much more physical opponent that Jeremy's team is facing. Yeah, it does Feel like they're letting a little more gold. Probably benefits Vegas. Their physical team, and they definitely taken bands up at different times. So No, we gotta learn a few more power plays and Um, hopefully few. Those hits are penalized. Ah, well, half of the Hawks four goals have been on special teams. So you know, Jeremy can certainly you know, throw those thoughts out there. If anyone of such influence is listening, I know that's quite the Mike Keenan and Jeremy Roenick thinking the playoffs way back in the day. But the other side of that also just says The need to be better and finding a way to be harder to play against five on five because that's how the Golden Knights have scored all eight of their goals. They just keep it simple and they just they work hard and they're not cutting corners. They're not taking chances. The other night when Patrick Kane took a nice little pass from Alex to break it, and then fed Stroman the backdoor. That was William Karlsson. That was his responsibility, and you could see him. He just didn't have the purpose of skating down the ice. He kind of thought that he had Patrick Kane E was in between to break it and Cain but Kane was a step ahead of him. It was a perfect pass by to break it to kind of lay it out there. But that doesn't happen very often. When you when you catch Vegas, not really playing to their system and I think that this is a non opportunity for the Blackhawks in this Siri's in this game. They played well in that last game. You could build off that you can say Listen, we stuck with them. We hung with them. We need to know that we need to know that we have to pick it up another level when the game is on the line, and the pressure starts ramping up a little bit. So I think they could take that into this game tonight, but they really have to have that mentality that when we get our chances were going to bear down, and when we get in the offensive zone, we're going to create opportunities. Move the feet a little bit more. The one thing in the last game That was very noticeable in my mind when Patrick came came into the offensive zone throughout the playoffs, a lot of times we've seen him stop and stand still. When he stands. Still, all those little passes all those little opportunities that he has to open up some ice for other players kind of gets taken away. In the game last night or two nights ago, when he stopped in the offensive zone, a returned up. He kept his feet moving one way or the other, and that forces Vegas now to kind of react to him and follow him a little bit. And then that opens up other areas If he just stay stationary looking for and that's what When, when they have some problems on the power play. He gets stationary on that half board and it's easy to defend against the same five on five so He has to have that mentality. And everybody does. Once you get in the offensive zone don't be stationary. Don't be a target because these guys they're big. They're physical, their defense, play the man, move your feet, and that way you could draw some more Palin news and if you keep moving your feet, they're going to get a stick in there. They're going to get an arm in there and make it noticeable on the officials that they have to make those calls. Finally, here are the only line up move that Jeremy made the other night sitting at invoke wished for Lucas Carlsson Bo Quist. Out there right now during warm ups will see if he draws back in after observing Game two. Here's what the coach said about what he wants to see from the first round pick who turns 20 years old today whenever he returns a lot of beer tonight, somewhere down the road from what he saw in the 1st 5 games of his first NHL postseason is young players. The high level. We're asking a lot of them, but we think he Kenbrell injustice put poison his ability to Break yourself clean and as offensive blue line, the things you do on the offense, Apu. I'm just provide a little bit different dimension. A different size. Growing pains were going to be felt on this stage for different players. Troy appeared, you know, with a future Hall of Famer. Has certainly helped Adam Development of the playoffs. They're different animal and this this opponent is a different animal with a style that Adam's going to have to continue to have to adapt to, as his game hopefully keeps on growing, You know, he's he's going to be a target, and if you're playing during the regular season, you might not focus. On Adam Ball quest all that much. You go in there and say, Okay, this is what we've got to do, But I got 182 other games 81 other games. We're not going to worry too much about Adam focused. But when you're playing in a seven game series best of seven series you focus. On those type of players, and they say, Listen, he's a smallest defenseman. He's 19 years of age. Let's make it tough on, Um, let's let's really make it miserable and let's take the body every time you can, and he's going to have to make that adjustment. He's gonna have to understand that that he's The faster that he gets back there in a couple of times when I've seen him in the playoffs. When there's somebody coming in, he slows up a little bit. He's kind of looking around to see what he needs to do. The best thing for him to do is use his speed. Get back there and make the player chase you rather than kind of be a target in somebody coming in strong on the fore. Check there and you've got to have that mentality to get away and skate away from the pressure rather than kind of standing there and then absorbing it..

"Fans hope that they will be hearing that song. Ah lot today box could sure use a handful of goals to take down the mighty Vegas Golden Knights. They trail the Siri's two games to nothing. My name is Jo brand. This is technically the beginning of sports Central as we get you geared up for Blackhawks Hockey Game three of the best of seven. Siri's will have John in Troy with the puck. Drop it. Seven. Chris Bones pregame at 6 30 Right now we've got Charlie Room L E. Otis of NBC Sports Chicago If you are a Blackhawks fan You're not following along with the things that Charlie is doing. You're doing it wrong. Tell you right now you can follow meant on Twitter at sea room. Ellie, Otis. That's r O u and e l i o t I as Charlie. I miss you, kid. How are you doing? I'm just looking over in the press box and seeing you because we sit right next to each other so very much. The feeling is mutual. Joe. I love the times where you send out a clever tweet and I will say a bad joke on that tweet and then we just look over at each other's something we could have done in person, but we have to do it over the Internet. Because we're millennials. But let's let's get to the Blackhawks because Here's my take game, too. They improved each period until the third came along. They could have won that game. It was a one goal game. And they did. So what do you tell a Blackhawks fan who's thinking if they can't come away with a victory in Game two? How can they overcome the Vegas Golden Knights in these next coming games? Yeah, I think that's what makes the Vegas Golden knight so difficult is that I thought the Blackhawks really did go toe to toe with them in the 1st 40 minutes, the play, and then you kind of knew that the Golden Knight had a different level or that they were going to make some sort of push. And the Blackhawks just didn't match that energy in the third period and over time, And it was really only a matter of time before the Vegas Golden Knights break through because they're so good. And you know, they really come at you in waves and even their defence and our pretty active to from their top pairing to their bottom pairing, And so I think if you're the Blackhawks, you look at the first game. Was a very tight checking game like I thought it I thought Vegas really didn't dominate or really didn't secure, you know, play the way that they're used to playing. But they just didn't give up much right? 20 shots on goal for the Blackhawks, which tied a season low, and so I think you hear the Blackhawks you look at that the 1st 40 minutes of Game two and you're like if we can replicate that. Over the course of a 60 minute game. It'll give you a better shot to win, but it's really difficult to put that all together against the biggest called the night's teen. What did you think about Jeremy Collins lying changes in heading into game too? And how much do you think that played a factor into the little offensive surge that they had what they Move, Matthew. Hi more to the second line. They reconnected with that chemistry between Strom and to bring it what you think about that. Yeah, I thought the line changes. We're fine. It was really, You know, I guess the defense in pairings are a little bit different. Obviously, with Adam focus being a healthy scratch for Lucas Carlsson and Carlton was obviously on the ice for the very first goal of Vegas then obviously The overtime goal as well. So it's easy to kind of look at that. OK, well, you know, obviously, it's a rookie playing his first career postseason game, and he hadn't gotten into much action off the You know, since the exhibition game or even before that, So you know, it's a tough position. There's tough ask of of Lucas Carlsson. I think you know, we're probably going to be on a boat in the lineup again tonight, and I think it would be. You know, I don't know how exactly the pairings going to shake up. Maybe they keep Calvin on and keep it really looked like Duncan Keith was flying. The other night having that dependable defends been with them, but they're gonna need guys like Adam. Both question and their defense meant to really chip in because that's what way shot and the second series only modern Yakubu there. They were chipping in on offense. And so I think the defense money to get active and help out the forward. Well, yeah, the defense was. He was huge in that opening Siri's against Edmonton. The other thing that keeps getting brought up is Vegas is physicality. And I know they're just they're They're a bigger team. They hit more than the Hawks. It's not quite the Hawks game. But if you if you're outsized, if it's not your game, how do you work around that? How can the black clock's still figure out a way to, I guess neutralized the physicality of the Vegas Golden Knights. Yeah. I just think you really try not to play into their hands like I really feel like the black need to stick to their game and not get involved with those that sure curricular activities and I know I know that this is I. Even as Jeremy call tennis before the game, you know, like The theory is very clearly being officiated differently than the interiors that were not seeing in many power plays for either side. And so you know if it really does stay at even strength, like I think we only saw three penalties in Game two, and they played 3.5 period of hockey like I don't really know And you know it. I'm sure it's difficult adjustment for the Blackhawks because everything was being called the adventure in serious but I think they just have to. They have to capitalize on the opportunities and Jeremy Collins said it before the game as well that the Vegas Golden Knights are very physical team and because this is being officiated differently, they're going to impose their will their physicality. And so I think the black are kind of Have to get back to doing what they do best and capitalize on the rush. Chances. Shoot the park more which we, you know, obviously, we were all probably screaming at the TV after no Kirby document. You passed up on that passing opportunity a minute into the game. And so I think you just have that shoot first mentality and try to impose your will, by by playing a speed type game rather than more conservative. You mentioned the less penalties being called and I feel like it's ironic because correct me if I'm wrong, but I feel like the Blackhawks. Power play has actually looked pretty good in this. Siri's whether they've been able to capitalize or not at least their quality chances..

"On the hockey show on ESPN 1000 with Brian Hanley. I'm Pat Boyle breaking news out of the NHL. The Boston Bruins have announced their goalie to harass. Has opted out. He has left the bubble in Toronto, a statement from to grasp saying, I want to be with my teammates competing, but at this moment, there are things more important than hockey in my life. And that is being with my family. I want to thank the Bruins and my teammates for their support and wish them success right now. The Bruins are tied up with the Carolina Hurricanes in their best of seven at a game apiece. Interesting timing, though, right to do it. In the middle of a serious Brian and it comes right after comments the other day after game, too, where this doesn't feel like playoff hockey, right feels like an exhibition game and you know what we do like what's the point? And again if something's going on at home, that's an entirely different situation. But if it's just it feels like an exhibition. I'm not into it. See you later. If you're a teammate, how do you feel about that One's Syriza's even and you're just getting started here. And the great tradition of an original 16 and you've been a stalwart there. I mean, how do they look at him? If you know if and when he comes back, Let's get Steve Conrad's opinion on that. He's my teammate on NBC Sports Chicago You could see him tonight at 6 30 for the pre game show and the postgame show which Jamal Mayers and he joins us Now on the hockey show on ESPN. 1000 morning, Steve, How are you? That Brian, I'm good. How are you guys doing? All right, So this interesting breaking story about two harassed, opting out? Let's say that it's not because of something dire situation with a family member. It's just that He wants to not be in Toronto and wants to be with his family. How do you think that goes over with the rest of his his teammates? I mean doing it, You know, mid Mid Siri's. Well, there's a couple of different ways to look at it and you know if I'm a player, and I know my guy's heart is in it, and maybe his mind is somewhere else, and is Brian mentioned, we don't know exactly what the reason isn't it And it could be something dire happening at home, although that doesn't sound like the case, but If I'm his teammate, and I know that he's not in it. I don't want him there. You know, I think that you're helping the team. You're hurting the team. I want somebody who's fully invested. It is all in and And you know he's all about winning the Stanley Cup. But that being said, you know, he's got term left on his contract. I'm sure and you know it doesn't It doesn't look good for the remaining years of his contract, because There's a teammate who was bailed on his team, and I think he's gonna have a tough time returning next year. You know, especially if they get knocked out of the playoffs now heading into these playoffs. Boston, I think would be in one of the top three or four favorites to win the Stanley Cup. And of course, he's their number one got goalie now. I don't have a line of sheet in front. But I think it's your spot. Lock their backup. That's correct. Yeah, so I mean, he's you know, he's a good goalie, but he's not a to grasp and ah Like I said, I I think as a player if I know my goal is not in it, and this heart's not in it, I'm fine with them leaving, but I think he's gonna have a tough time coming back next year. I'm sure Bruins fans no matter what the teammates thinking I'm with you, Steve, but I think it's going to be very difficult to go back in that room when you're making $67 million a year after you just quit on him. Bruins fans are going to forget this very easily. But you wanted t get your thoughts on the Blackhawks and and I were talking about the defensive pairings and there's really been no ideal here and it has to be a whole lot better, but let's start with the young guys. Vocalists gets a sat the other night. You know, we expect him back in there today. When you look at him. What do you see? Is the ceiling and what do you see? That's not going on right now that he became healthy scratch the other night. Well, he's gotta be Brian. He's got to be better defensively and I don't I think he was on the ice for a couple of goals against it is in that game one against the against the Vegas Cold Nights. And I think that's probably the biggest knock on him is he's not strong in his own zone defensively and keep in mind. He's just 19 years of age. I think it turns 20 actually here pretty soon. But 19 so he's probably still going to grow. We know he's going to get stronger, but you can't wait for that in the playoffs. We're in the playoffs now. So Thea upside That feeling is I mean, he's just a highly talented offensive threat, but we haven't seen it yet. And And that's kind of what concerns me. Because you know if you're if you're a Brent Burns are you know even the other Carlson Place in Ah in San Jose. You know you can. You can make up for your defensive deficiencies by adding goals by, you know, keeping the puck in the other end by B being an offensive threat, and that has not happened with him and Nope. And I were both down its 5th 3rd arena for the training camps who point on he really stuck out. He was very noticeable playing with Duncan Thi. Getting involved in the play, You know, keeping keeping the play in the offensive zone, creating chances and, you know, they say it's sports. Sometimes offense is your best defense and And that's what they were hoping from from him, But it didn't happen really against Edmondson. Hey, did not look very good against Vegas that first game, So now he's had a chance to sit and, you know, take a look and I'm sure he's been watching tape of the way he's played in the previous games, but he also got to sit and watch. Up top, and sometimes you get a different perspective like that. It really helps your game. You realize that maybe you've got a little more time than you think. So I hope that's the situation. I think he'll probably be back in there tonight. I feel bad for for Lucas Carlsson because you know he didn't play a bad game. But At the end of the nineties dash to the minus two and that certainly doesn't look good. He only played about 10 minutes, so I would suspect he comes out and vocals probably goes back in time for him to be effective. Ryan. Here's the short answer. He's got to be better offensively, and I think that will help defensively. Steve Conrad joins us on the hockey show on ESPN. 1000. You bring up Lucas Carlsson. He was out there with Connor Murphy for the game winning goal. We broke that down on the post game show. It's been an issue with this team now the last couple of years breakdowns in the DEA's own, leading to high danger chances for the opposition this past season before the pause, the Hawks Gave up the most high danger chances. They did not allow the most high danger goals and that's because they had really good gold, honey, but it's been an issue the last few years so far in this playoff They've allowed a playoff worse. 14.5 high danger chances in six games. Three of the four Golden Knights goals in Game two were hiding from the high danger area. How did they fix this? What? What is the is it? I think you're going to say a combo. But system problem or or is it Is it Maura Personnel problem. Well, you know, I think it's all the above. You know, when you look at the black Hawks, they're not. You know whether it's you know, Patrick Kane or or you know Kubel ICO are, you know? Oh, gosh, The break it, Alice. Bringing these guys aren't real strong in their own zone, and you give him free rein offensively because that's where they do their damage. So you know, and even on the back end, you know, we talked about both quests and maybe some of his defense defensive shortcomings. But we're not. We're not a shutdown team when it comes to No Clanton things down in your own zone, and all you have to do is watch the Columbus Blue Jackets play and they've got some great defensive back there to whether such Seth Jones or exactly Lewinsky, but they can shut it down as well as anyone. The Blackhearts aren't really built that way. So now you've got to come up with a system that will enable you to do that..

"Back in there right from the start. So last night on NBC Sports Chicago You hear the old check and Pat Foley in the Hawks lose 43 over time, Brian and they're now down to O in the Siri's. Do They have a shot to extend this series? Or is this really Vegas? They're going to sweep the Hawks here. They might win a game this weekend, but I wouldn't bet on it. So there is a shock but no shocked with Siri's, obviously and they just they They were the last team in this modified tournament. For good reason because they still have a lot of issues and they run into a very deep team, a team with guys like Riley Murphy and Paul Stastny, who can score goals whenever they take a shot at the net. And it was good to see jump in their steps and guys having fun. It was an entertaining game last night, Chris no doubt and I was on with York and Jeff Miller the other day and I said, really want to meet like guys like Caner were frustrated with the attempt the game plan going into Game one. Where it was all about discipline and not jumping in not being playing fast and loose. They started playing fast and loose last night and was much more enjoyable. The watch. I think much more enjoyable for the team to play and you saw some good results now. Unfortunately, Jeremy Colleton made some you know. Put the lines in a blender and the defence of parents in a blender, and I was shocked that Bo quest was was a healthy scratch, apparently said just near the day's rest, we'll see what that means. But, you know Lucas Carlsson Young guy needs experience of playoffs, too, but focuses the guy you really want to get experience, But he and kind of Murphy were on the ice for the first goal of the game winner so and they had some breakdowns in communications. So Lot of wards there, but they gave it a pretty good shot. But when it comes to shots, 36 to 16 in attempts and 21 date and scoring chances that's not going to get done in the final 27. No, it won't and you're right in the second period. The offense did look like it was faster. And look, you know you have Doc Kubelik and Strom all getting goals in the second period. And then you get shut out in the third and really when you look at it, and the shot advantage to the gold Nice 39 to 25. You're not going to win these games going outside by that much, and especially with a team like the Gold Knights, who defensively they're able to clear the pocket away from Leonard and and you see a situation where Corey Crawford has to make 35 saves. He gives up four goals. Yeah. And Chris Here's the thing is I was trying Tio verbalize with the York and Jeff. I'd rather go out play my style of hockey again. Whatever experience you get in the playoffs for these younger guys in particular, and you want the corps guys to get another run at a Stanley Cup long shot odds or not. But you know, it seemed like Jeremy Carlton and staff came in with a game plan to just play to defend the goal night's game. You know, rather than to play their game and Yesterday. It seemed last night seemed like the Hawks were playing war their game and dictating at times. You know, Peter, divert the head coach of the Knight said. Yeah, you know, we almost fell in the trap. Write a letter also said, We always fall in the trap of playing the Hawks game too much, so I'd rather go out trying to play my game than trying not to lose. Do you want to see more from Patrick Kane? We'll hear from him next. You're.

"Shoots are David preachy with a wrist shot at the high slot that finds the net. The crew into the power play Goal league game to one, Nothing. That's a familiar voice Judge Surat on the sports hub in Boston, with the call of the David create, she go, but that has been the only goal the contest so far. They're midway through the second period. Boston holding that one to nothing lead Carolina and Rod Brind'Amour, who by the way was fined $25,000. For some of his postgame comments last night, criticizing the officiating Brenda more winning the Yesterday's game by benching Justin Williams and Sami Vatanen. Guys you would normally expect to be in the lineup. Those two are back in the lineup. Today, however, Nino Niederreiter is one of the regulars that we usually see in Carolina who is taking a seat in street clothes up in the press box for Carolina's game and remember, a lot of people are wondering about Boston some serious concerns about the way they played in the round. Robin. Here's a team that had the highest point total until the pause during the regular season. But they really seem to have some difficulty getting on track, getting all their personnel in shape from being unfit to perform. But now after going through the round robin and finishing as the four city having to face this Carolina Hurricanes team whom they swept in the Eastern Conference finals last year. Now they could be on the verge of going up to games to none on that Hurricanes team. It has to be frustrating for Carolina right now. Yes, it's still early in that serious, but not even he have an answer against the Boston Bruins. Just when I thought They might be facing them in a vulnerable spot with the way they have been performing of late. It's one nothing Boston midway through the second of game number two as the Bruins seek to take a two games to none lead the late game in Admin 10 tonight. Will be the Calgary Flames, looking to take a 12 games to none lead on the Dallas Stars, the flames as AH, the eighth seed and Dallas as the third seed. The Calgary took care of business 32 in that series opener a couple of days ago. So that'll wrap up all the action tonight if you missed it last night. Vancouver got off to a one game to none lead on ST Louis with a 5 to 2 victory. Colorado and Arizona were scoreless into the second half of the third period before the Avalanche scored three times in less than a minute and 1/2 to account for all the goals in that game, So they won that Siri's opener by a final score of three to nothing. And Arizona got just 14 shots on goal for the entire game. In that one. We'll see if they can wrap themselves up offensively. When that theory Siri's resumes tomorrow. Couple of other NHL notes Montreal will be without its head coach Claude Julien, for at least the remainder of this Siri's with Philadelphia. As AH clothes. Julian was hospitalized with chest pains after last night's Game one versus the Flyers. He is not expected back behind the bench for this serious the associate head coach Kirk Mueller, will take over and when Washington resumes its Siri's tomorrow against the New York Islanders after dropping game one of that series, the also be without Niklas Backstrom, who is in concussion protocol, so capitals shorthanded is they face their former head coach who they won the Stanley Cup for a couple years ago, Barry Trotz, now behind the Islanders bench. The Islanders took a one game to none lead in that particular Siri's yesterday with with the victory there, but no Nicolas Backstrom for Washington as once again for this black Oxiris against the Vegas gold. Tonight's It is to nothing. But you have to sense backs are against the wall here with the way the Hawks have performed historically against Vegas, we mentioned only one victory and 11 games now and doing much better in this game number two tonight, actually having stretches where they did control play for much of that second period and getting that three spot But nothing in the first nothing of the third period and nothing in overtime. Reilly Smith ends up winning at the 7 13 mark to give the Vegas gold Tonight's a two games to none lead in the series and again the numbers for Riley Smith against the Blackhawks three goals and two assists. I should say in this Siri's against the Blackhawks before his career in 20 games, he has 11 goals. And 20 points that line with him. Paul staff named Jonathan Marshall so has really ratcheted up in this series. So far the 1st 2 games, Blackhawks will have to find an answer for that will be interesting to see what Jeremy Carlton has to do from a lineup standpoint as well, as you said to sit at a bowl Quist in this game, bring Lucas Carlsson in Carlson was minus two in this game, but Bo Quist had been having his struggles as well. So maybe one game while watching it from a distance. You kind of allow an ambo quiz to it. "Hold onto the puck and whistle will stop play. 15 34 left in period number 333 is the score. You know that Vegas is gonna pick up their game Blackhawks a little bit on their heels here to start. Period number three. Little mistakes come into play in a big way. Last time we had Matthew Hime are getting to about five feet within the red line and not getting it in deep and all of a sudden again you have the Vegas team coming back counter attacking And you don't have some numbers back and support. Those little plays gotta happen. There's a past Ramada from deep in the Hawk's own ahead of the Vegas line tapes has the puck moves into the right wing corner Vegas zone. Outnumbered by a couple of Golden Knights lost the puck. Hi, Corey Crawford. The other way. Kirby Doctor Center ice on the right wing. He spun down to the ice by Chandler Stevenson with a stick and no penalty is called. And then Lucas Carlsson runs into William Karlsson. The hawk. Can there not be two penalties on that play? I don't get it hears. Talk down the left wing Hawk zone tried to go from his back and to his forehand in front. Get a shot away. But Crawford definitely check the puck away. Look in the left wing corner. Doc battling there with water. Put it around, not out, and then tuck from the left wing board. Shut the fuck toward the right point intended for theatre, but it's over a stick to center ice. There's good jeweler entering the Golden Night zone. Right point moves the puck left wing corner for Doc. He had the puck stripped away by Theodore and you'll start the rest. "Back with you for the Blackhawks pregame show as we mentioned a little bit earlier, a bit of a delayed start today as this is the first game in the hub city of Edmundson earlier today, by the way, The playoffs. The qualifying round got underway in Toronto, where Carolina was a three to winter over the New York Rangers. The Rangers had swept the season Siri's in the regular season. Against the Hurricanes. But it's the Kanes, who get off on the right foot to begin this playoff run with a three to victory a little bit earlier today in Toronto, so as we await the puck drop in some ceremonies that will go on before the Blackhawks face the Oilers in Edmonton. You want to catch up on a couple of things that happened during the pause, and that includes the signing of Ian Mitchell, the Blackhawks 2017 2nd round draft pick, highly touted prospect from the University of Denver, who probably was ready to play this season for the Blackhawks, but instead decided to go back for his junior season in Denver. As the captain of that team hoping to win and championship they were certainly capable But like the Blackhawks, college hockey came to an abrupt halt due to the Corona virus pandemic. So he finally side a couple of weeks ago with the Blackhawks isn't with them now, but is preparing for training camp whenever that should happen. It is scheduled for November 17th if the Stanley Cup playoff run plays itself through, and the regular season will begin on December 1st, But there's so much business take care of here. In the meantime, Ian Mitchell met with reporters a couple of weeks ago following his official signing, He talked about not having the chance to fulfill the dream he had in returning to Denver for his junior year, being a part of a future core of young black Hawks defenseman the biggest adjustment that he anticipates translating to the professional game and a familiar name he admires and tries to emulate with the team. He will soon join. But in the end, he began his discussion with reporters about finally becoming a Blackhawk. That's very exciting. This is something that I waited my whole life for him to get this opportunity is really special. So Obviously, I would have liked maybe able to meet some of the guys now on beauty team now, but I'll just I'll be ready. Come come whenever the next season starts to What went into the decision to have your contract start next season and offer in the first year. For me. I felt that just Hyman extra year gave me another year to prove myself to the organization that hopefully the end of that third year. I can earn an even longer contract to stay in Chicago, a supposed toe After two years. You see a lot of Yes, young defensemen getting bridge deals, whereas I was hoping that if I can come in and play well for three straight years, you'll learn a chance to stay here for a really long time. How disappointment for the reasons you went back to Denver to see this thing through. Have it full short and not even get to the finish line there. Yeah, it was. It was definitely devastating. I know that. When we got the news in the dressing room, I don't know. It was a march 11th 12 days have been canceled. We just got a taste for practice and It was pretty pretty tough in that room. A lot of guys were getting pretty pretty upset, so to not even have the chance to play in the tournament, Try my national championship was Was definitely pretty tough to swallow. But on at the same time, there's a lot of people that are going through a lot tougher things right now than that, But for me personally, it was his top because I thought we had a team that could have won it all and we didn't get the chance to prove it. So That's something that I'll always be a what if for me and for a lot of other a lot of other hockey players, too, for sure. Ian. Congratulations. When you look at this black Hawks roster on the backend you Brent Seabrook. Duncan Keith. They're obviously too Long stage, but there's a lot of young and upcoming defensive talent. How do you see yourself kind of fitting in with this group and kind of what's the excitement of maybe having a well stocked prospect for like that? Yeah, It's definitely exciting. I don't Maybe it could be not so dissimilar to 2009 and 2008 when they're building for for the three cops. I know they had a lot of young defenseman in the pipe, then Okey C Brecken. Johnny Oduya and Brian Campbell and guys like that. So you know, I hope I can be a part of a big part of the future. So you know there's a lot of talent there and hopefully I'm part of it helps team win. What have you been working on during quarantine and then this summer to try to get ready for the NHL season. And what do you think That adjustment will be like Once you arrive for a training camp in the fall or whenever the ends up being Um, I think the biggest adjustment for me is just going to be the schedule. Playing 82 games is a lot different from others to two games a week that you play in college. I think that's going to be something that It's gonna be a tough adjustment for me, but I have been trying to push myself stars that can in the gym. Totally had my body and body ready for that on the season time. I'm just gonna circle back to basically your decision to go back for your junior season. If you could go back to that time how difficult a decision was. That wasn't the correct decision and why, and just kind of hard to grow your game a little bit more this year. Yeah. I think it was definitely right decision for me. I just I just felt I wasn't ready to leave, and I didn't want to leave him for me. Tow have the opportunity to be the captain of dinner is a huge honor and something that I also didn't want to pass out. Just You've become so close with the guys on that team going to class and living with them every day. So you know I love going back and I love it there. It's kind of like we said earlier would have been nice to be able to finish it off. But You know, I think I I was a lot better. This year's. There was my my software. You're just more of an impact offensively and played in Florida. Other teams tell players defensively as well. So I think this year gave me great chance toe really grow my game and show that I can kind of play any role that that's asked of me. They're a Hawks defenseman or someone in the league. But you you feel your style compliment for that you emulate, and he also kind of layout what she'll be doing over the next few weeks or months. Sure, Yes. Um, I guess growing up. I always loved watching Duncan, Keith and Tyson bury. Those were two players that I tried to be like and tryingto. Emulate my game after so getting toe. Hopefully me Duncan soon would be definite sign of you pretty cool in your private starstruck, But, um, I mean, having opportunity, hopefully maybe play with them would be really, really cool. I think, since since we're both skaters, and then we could definitely compliment each other in that way, Andrea just for for my plan moving forward. I'm actually in NBC on a little family holiday, so just enjoy a little bit of time off. And then once I get back home, Oh, In the jam on the ice skating and, Yeah, I was trying to stay ready and continue to be ready for some season time. So at some point, I'll get down Chicago and I'm not sure quite when, but I want to get down there a little bit early, so I could meet some of the guys and Just kind of get get used to things before camp starts. Ian for for a long time. Now fans have lumps you in with that ambo Quist. And you know Nick, Bohdan Lucas Carlsson, Have you gotten to know those guys?.

"I also asked Jonathan tapes. What's the biggest challenge when it comes to facing this Oilers team? The obvious of our place? Staying off the county kill? And I'm really trying to limit this point chance, especially big gun so You know, a lot of our talk this week has just been our defensive game. I think we're you know, we see strong was lying. Kirby's line, um, card. I mean, everyone's playing pretty well. Cream on offense and looking good in practice, So we know the office theories. Make sure we got the sense of being wrapped up. Staying out of the penalty box. That's something that Calvin Don did not do in his return on Wednesday night, took a took a couple of penalties in that game. That's one thing that Jeremy Collins and spoke about. Avoid those stick penalties, Brian. I mean, just, you know, I know that the Oilers air fast and they're going to get behind you at times, but I don't Compound the problem by dropping your stick and committing a penalty. Like like tripping or hooking. Yeah, and I mentioned that when I was talking to Carmen, you're clear you're going. Take penalties, right? But those are the ones where guys that you know, step Pastor. You can't just put a stick in the blade and upend them and You can't take this stupid penalties because this team will make it pay for it more often than not, So you know, I was going to ask you when you're watching the practices. You know, we know that Calvin had his injury issues, but I mean, Connor, Murphy and Calvin don are going to be key. To this Siri's, You know, certainly with the offense we know it's got became and tapes and Jubilee. But defensively, you're going to have to get these guys on the power play. When Ed Vincent's on the power play, we're gonna have to watch Connor Murphy and Calvin Hart and see what you have here moving forward, and I thought they got better as the game went on against ST Louis. I thought the Han and Murphy settled in Keith and vocalist are your top D pairing, and then only Mata and Slater Kuku are your third pairing. We also saw Lucas Carlsson out there, so I think you actually see him in this. Siri's At some point. We don't know yet. Who is going to start in that for the Oilers? It's either going to be Mike Smith, the veteran Or Mico Koskinen. Now Koskinen has the better numbers right? He doesn't have playoff experience. Smith doesn't have the numbers that Koskinen has and didn't play as well as Koskinen did in the last two weeks during Oilers training camp, So it's going to be interesting to see who Dave Tippett goes with. He started costuming the first half of their exhibition game the other night and Smith came in second. If you read the tea leaves there, it seems like they're leaning to Koskinen. Yeah, but I'm a contrarian and I would almost think that most coaches go with the veteran experience. And that doesn't mean we won't have a quick hook today. But I would I wouldn't be shocked and matter of fact that if I was betting on it, I'd say Mike Smith, even though costume is deserving probably earned it as certainly as you said, with the numbers and the better play throughout the season. But I would think he would lean on the more veteran guy and I would accept expectancy. Smith in there Start the game today, So it's been 143 days since the Blackhawks last played a game and I know over at NBC Sports Chicago We played all the victories from the three recent Stanley Cups. I asked Aves if we watching those cup victories make you appreciate it more now or doesn't motivate you. To go for it again for me the shutdown in March and literally, you know. Sit around. You know, for a couple months and not have it must do because everything's locked down. No one's leaving their house. Send me a silver lining was able to look back and you know it saying about those cup runs where the entire cities Chicago was along for the ride with you. It is a player you'll really get to stop and smell A rose is that that takes away your focus. It takes away from you being onto your job and You know, it was kind of nice to be able to look back and Enjoy that. Appreciate it for how special it really is Also not actually beyond clock. Um for next season because everything was so up in the air, so I think it's been 13 seasons for me now in Chicago, and I mean it's scaring all fastest flies by and me having that time, too. Kind of reminiscent. Think about that was really good to just slow things down. Appreciate what? I've been lucky enough to experience your You know when you think about it, Brian been 13 years. First of all, it's can't believe it's been 13. Just really, really is that it's amazing, right? Yeah. And their summers have been so short. Most of that is because they're so damn good, and they played so deep into the summer that they didn't have much time off. So For a lot of these guys, a lot of them, probably most of them. This is the first time they've been able to get away from hockey. Since they were a little kid. And it was interesting to hear how he reflected upon those accomplishments earlier in his career, and how the last three years being lean years may have stoked the fire a little bit too, to get back to where they once were. It's great to hear, and it's great to hear from the leader of the team that he feels that way. So I imagine that permeates throughout the dressing room I'm really interested to hear from Ox fans are they is excited if they missed it for 143 days. Are they looking forward to this? I mean, the Hawks were gifted into this tournament. So does that take this it all for a hawks fan, Or did you? Frankly do they just think they're not a very good team that we're not going to make the playoffs, but for this tournament And this pandemic, And so the excitement level is not where it would be. Normally, I'd love to hear from Hawks trance. I'm not really getting the buzz. I thought it would be leading up to this afternoon's game. What is your prediction for the Siri's three? 123323776 You've got a question for Stan Bowman. Give us a tweet at me. At ESPN hockey shown by the way, the hockey show is presented by Coors Light.
