"And gone after the the modern hellfire club man. That guy sounds busiest wolverine pretty much. Now it's kids in the excess. He shot was stuck in lucas shadow. He was brilliant fearless when she was younger and sometimes need of reassurance or rescue later on he'd end up getting credit for her achievements if they were out together so we're not only getting their history here as members of the c. but also the history of other dynamic because of loved over that time right and we know that chard will end up his bishops commanding officer. We heard in the bishop mini series before this that that was in large part. Because bishop just didn't want to rise through the ranks that he liked being a beat cop essentially but that's an interesting wrinkle to it. I kinda like it. Honestly just because she hasn't had a very distinct personality and that ambition based on a desire to actually be recognized. That's kind of cool. Yeah i like that a lot so that brings us to xy number. two future. intense is written by john stranger again art by didata studios and mozarts two colors by derek. Bellman letters by richard stockings and comma craft. I got to say. I'd like the art and this one much much better. That's interesting because to me. The fact that there are so many artists i think market was actually a member of the studios that makes it kind of jarring going from one page to the next but yeah the good art in this issue is genuinely very good. Yeah agreed the opening narration. I don't know if it's good. But i think it's great Jay would you do the honors. This is the danger room of the future. Where young newton's train and home the talents and abilities that set them apart from normal human beings. It's called the street coming to theater near you this summer. So on the street we see the incident that gets bishop actually promoted to being access officer not just a cadet right. A bunch of cadets are attacked by 'em plates and bishop organizers the cadets to defend themselves until excesses shows up to turn the fight. I guess we should probably talk about what employees are. Because it's been a while. M plates are vampires mouths in their hands. Who eat mutant bone. Marrow they are indeed the genetic mero we've of course seen 'em played in generation x. Who presumably is the person who created at least the first round of an plates that ended up bishops future. Got say. I am grateful to australia for sticking with just mero here instead of Genetic marrow and of course to descend big you wait. We don't mean like sarah the morlock marrow. She's a to running right now right lower case at meroe bunger exactly. There is a really cool bit of art in this fight. Though he mentioned the arts getting this issue and overall i agree bishop and this other cadet named shirley. I don't know why it's hilarious to me that there's a future cop cadet named shirley. I think that's because it was the name of my maternal grandmother and so it's such an old lady named for me. Oh it's super an old lady name. I mean apologies down a younger shirley's but were afraid you may have an old lady name. That's okay it's a cool lady. Name old ladies are awesome you ever see the triplets of belleville full of awesome ladies. Oh yes many times but yeah. There's this really cool panel where bishop shirley are just surrounded by employees closing in and they're not fighting back to back but they're still shooting in different directions and sees teather laser blasts like crossing over one another. You really do get the impression that these are kids who are being very effectively trained in st combat also shards powers manifest at this point and they are cool although there description is it doesn't make a ton of sense which is that she can turn the light into energy but like it's all right. I guess different energy like zap energy. Yes zap your energy. You know we've talked about this. It's the nineties. If a given mutant characters created their powers or probably just energy shit yep and so indeed are shards multiple unclear on how old they are at this point when when bishop has made a full officer because archbishop looks maybe like thirteen or fourteen. Yeah but at the same time if this is a messed up future where people live and die quickly and things are very dangerous see them you know basically considering somebody to be an adult earlier now once. Lucas bishop is an accessory officer. We get to meet his two wingmen. Those are malcolm and randall. These are the guys who had mostly interchangeable personalities than in uncanny x men two hundred eighty two two hundred eighty seven various previous flashbacks. We know that they were bishops. To best buddies and they were the two guys who were killed coming back to the present their only really differentiated by the colors of their their mullets and guns. Yeah but that was enough for me. I read their origin issues. So many times as a kid and the fact that like malcolm had hand guns that shot multiple lasers from his knuckles and randall had a cool little mustache and they both had awesome mullets. That was enough for me but they work a lot better distinct personalities and i will give this miniseries one thing it makes me care much more about malcolm randall as characters not just as character designs. Oh agreed it also definitely established as randall as my favorite of the two. Yeah yeah i mean. They're they're both pretty great but okay. Let's start with malcolm and lead up to your favorite on. What's malcolm's deal now that he actually has a backstory a personality. So malcolm has dreamed of xy being out on the street in doing good. He is also the rich kid of an influential father and so he gets what he wants but he really really wants to do things right as bishop puts it feisty. Little mutant aren't you. I like that in my men do yet. Malcolm's cool like he gets really annoyed whenever anybody thinks he's trying to coast on his privilege. He's also very very serious. And by the book i think because he's so obsessed with being taken seriously as his own future cop. Not just like a nepotism base future cop randall. On the other hand is an insubordinate swashbuckler bad ass who specifically swashbuckling. Because he absolutely idolises the classic x men night.

"Hair though i guess. Alas trevor's portal was one way so bishop was stuck in time before he was born and after the usual number of misunderstanding based fights. He joined the x. Men along with his snazzy outfit and mullet bish brought with him to the present attack no bracelet the contain the personality memories and holographic appearance of his dead sister chard who had been his commanding officer in the excess after forge upset bracelet. Holo shark came to life and joined x factor so that brings us to the present as of the comics but what about the bishops siblings past which is to say the experts future which is to say possibly are present or future disa- future past happened. Like what eight years go. Now you know and we should say as we dive into this. This is actually the second bishop slash access the mini miniseries written by the same person. John ostra andrew. There will be a third but we've covered so much bishop charen access you stuff lately that we're going to deal with that another time. Yeah we'll get there eventually This one i got say is definitely the the the lesser of the two. We've gotten to so far and that brings us to excess in number one time lost written by john. Australia penciled by. Chris gardner by terry austin and tom palmer colored by derek bellman and lettered by richard stockings and comma craft so before we dive into the plot. I do wanna talk about one thing. I appreciated which is that the cover of number one is shattered charging straight ahead zapping while bishop runs behind her and then the first page is the opposite bishop is running straight ahead zapping while shard is behind him so evil time nice so before we get into the plot. I want to bring up something. That i'm really uncomfortable with that. Is that this. Whole series is distill. Coppa ganda yet. This is basically a story where the future cops are all good guys and the criminals that they face are all not just bad guys but lake. Sue bad guys. It's very black and white or blue rainbow. I guess because the criminals have multicolored hair and specifically the mutants who consider the accessing class. Traders are all super villains. Yeah yeah for the most part. I mean okay. So there's that and then there's the fact that the plot of the series can be summarized as hey remember that time that our entire origin story so coppa ganda yes but also recap again data that word. I mean it is in the dark future. Time line of earth. Eleven ninety one. I assume valid so anyway. Yes the the whole. The whole series is framed around bishop and shard reminiscing about the questionably. Good old days of the distant future. I think it really works a framing story. Actually because remember the shard that we have here the holographic chard. She only has her own memories that were implanted in that weird little bracelet. She doesn't really know. What bishops motivations were what he was up to when they were separated and she doesn't really have a full idea of what happened after she died in the future. I don't think she even knows how she died. I think memory cuts off a little bit before her death. I think it does. Yeah this does give the story a nice bit of continuity context. I mean otherwise it would just be a giant giant flashback and with this. It's a flashback. That has a reason to be told. It is kind of an as you. Bob story but only partially. I appreciate the effort so in looking at my notes and in talking about this. I realize i'm coming up against a very specific problem. And that is that lucas bishops code. Name the name. He goes by assists surname which he shares with his sister. So i'm thinking of them as bishop and shard and then they're not though lucas in chard bishop right they can be lucas and chard or bishop and bishop but he can't really mix and match there. I mean i think we'll get to it but later on a family member of theirs refers to them as bishop and shard which is just weird. I mean lucas is the older sibling. So i suppose it's feasible that his family started referring to him as bishop immediately and then when his younger sister was born. They were like well. Shit we can't call her bishops. So i guess we have to call her by her first name gas. I also love the name to kids. Lucas and chard. Maybe that's why. Lucas goes by bishop. Because otherwise he realizes that there's no way he can compete in the name department with. His sister seems reasonable. No speaking of their early life the bishops kids were initially raised largely by dude named hancock and their grandmother or at least someone they called grandmother who is clearly hinted in this miniseries to storm. Yes i wanna talk about both of those because here. We have hints. That grandma is storm in the bishop. Miniseries we had hints briefly. That may be handcock with cyclops. And there's some evidence for and there's some evidence against for each of those so who should we start with j. Let's start with grandmother. Okay so we do know that earth eleven ninety one bishops future basically follows from data future past or at least an alternate future extremely similar. Today's future past and indies. A future past storm died. We saw it on panel. We know that this time line didn't exactly follow that pattern and it's reasonable that she might have survived or that she might have survived but been permanently depowered. Grandmother is in this case and she even vaguely alludes to what might have happened when she's talking to hancock who brings up her past as.

"Damn j i still cannot believe bishop's spent so long trying to murderous child in his dubious defense miles. He didn't think hope would basically bring about an apocalypse but he basically brought about multiple apocalypse is trying to get to hope. I did say it was dubious. What eventually made him back off. Anyway i remember that cable shunted him way into the future. That just made a mad. Ultimately bishop came around on his own. Okay but what do you do. After spending literal millennia. Trying to kill a kid well and bishops case you had back to the present risky but in character and get possessed by the demon what i'm jay and milestone six and we are here to explain the x. men because it's about time someone did welcome to episode three hundred forty jand miles explain the x. Men where we walk you through the inside the house and the records of comics greatest superhero soap opera and welcome to the future. Which is the past for some characters. Well we'll get to that The point is today. we're gonna be talking about the x. s. e. miniseries which is not only the future but the future as remembered as the past from the present which is actually in the past. Now since we're recording it in what's technically future obviously so now that you've got all that clear listeners. let's give some background on bishop and sort of what the deal is with his time line because we're going to be delving pretty heavily into that today right so remember. David future past Aka earth eight eleven. That was the future time line. Where mutant hunting robotic sentinels took over the world and mutants were imprisoned in concentration camps branching off from that timeline is earth eleven ninety one a slightly farther future. Timeline takes place chronologically right after something. Similar to days of future passed in earth eleven. ninety one's still pretty near but somewhat less near future mutants and humans rose up together after the sentinel started to attack and oppress pretty much. Everybody the name of that uprising was the summers rebellion Who led that one. I can't possibly imagine probably vulcan. Havoc was too busy working on his dissertation. God we're never gonna stop giving having shit for that are we. Were not not until he finishes it. I love the idea though that that the the rebellion against the sentinels was led by cyclops. Because he's got such a great track record with fighting sentinels You using the danger room while his depowered against knows in X. men first class and then of course my favorite silver age story where he convinces a bunch of sense to go. Fight the sun. Yeah i think the summers rebellion was a little less straightforward. I get the impression a lot of people died but still well-done cyclops and now all of those bills have gone to fight the sun Well society rebuilt itself mutants formed a police force to go after mutant criminals kind of the comics code authority but with more laser rifles like the comics authority but likewise governed by the comics code authority because it exists only in comic books. This is turning into the time. Travel thing all over again will anyway. This group was the access e the executive security enforcers named after the now mythical charles xavier originally named the executor school enforces but they realized early on that sounded less like a special police force. More like hall monitors. The xy was a group of largely mullet future cops clad in outfits shockingly similar to gary coleman's train conductor outfit from an old episode of the electric company. One member of the excess. He was lucas bishop. Who followed time. Traveling mutant criminal named trevor fitzroy through a portal. to the present day of the main marvel universe earth. Six one six now present day is of course early nineties.

"But speaking of wolverine and speaking of the work that follows from this in hamas series at the end of number one hundred. We saw a character. Being sent after logan to help rehabilitate him and that character is kind of surprising one. That character is the daredevil character. Elektra the greek ninja electron agios right. She shows up here as well. She secretly helps with a fight while keeping herself in the shadows. And she's going to be a major player in the wolverine Solo series for awhile. And it's kind of awesome electron wolverine actually in an alternate universe that being earth nine eighty two ended up having a kid together. Her name is wild thing and she's kind of great. She had her own series briefly. That's that's quite a name. It is but you know it was the nineties. These things happened Speaking of the nineties in the nineties there were of course a lot of marvel action figures. And i think we were both at the thrift store together when we saw a ceylon and intellectual one and realized that they were just caller swaps if each other were exactly the same sculpt. Yeah they're outfitter just so goddamn similar like what is it about one pieces with tall boots and random strappy bits. That was a thing in the nineties and the eighties. I guess for elektra i mean. I guess they're sexy for some value of the term Well what i will say as those are absolutely reasonable outfits for ninjas who definitely don't want to have any visual contrast on their bodies as they are being stealthy and certainly wouldn't want to wear bright colors right. Maybe it's like gambits metal boots may be it's like a challenge level thing that could very well be. He edged to show how bad ass they are. I'm into that exactly well. Anyway during the fight. Logan is being really protective of scott like he shielding stott from the stone. Warriors projectiles with his body. He's carrying stott around by scots chest. Strap in his mouth like he's carrying a kitten around. I mean it's kind of ridiculous but at the same time it's also genuinely endearing like if we assume that logan losing his humanity and intelligence just brings him down to the very core of his identity and that core is protecting his friend even though they haven't always got along like that's kind of endearing it's really sweet and also really funny both of those things great combination so as amandus realizes that he's losing and thus he knocks down his giant prophecy column that he's been working on for presumably thousands of years to crush the team which shatters at the column not the team. The team is intact. They're fine they're fine. And yeah we close with like you were alluding to jay scott talking about the very meaningful mysterious thing. He saw at the bottom of the column which doesn't really go anywhere. Because it's the ninety s but wolverine is back with the x men we now have wolverines new animal status quo. Established we've met as and es thus leading into some later apocalypse stuff and honestly kinda cool plot stuff is going on here speaking of cool stuff the second storyline. We're going to be looking at today. Features one of my sort of surprise favorite characters from this era and that a shard shirts really great. She seems to get a lot of shit from the x. Men fandom and i don't know why 'cause she's pretty cool a fight him. I'll fight of all fight for her holographic holo honor. Yeah so we are still staying. Uncanny x men train. This is uncanny x men annual nineteen ninety six but it feels almost more like an x factor annual to me at least yeah definitely and that's largely due to shards presence because she's been hanging out with x factor for a fairly long time She died in the future so it let's let's go. Let's start with bishop. And sort of workup to chard as we're giving the background here because i feel like it. You gotta start with bishop for this one. Oh yeah lucas bishop one. Oh one shard bishop is bishop to. Oh one so. Look as bishop was a member of the xavier security enforcers or originally and hilariously at the xavier. School enforcers hall monitors of the future. Exactly their mutant cops in the future. Who hunt down. Mutant criminals Roughly seventy years into the future. That math gets wonky immediately. We'll talk about that. But bishop came back to the present day after chasing some mutant criminals through a time portal and being stuck in the present joined the x. Men soon after long with a truly exceptional mullet huge guns and energy channeling powers bishop brought with him a bracelet containing a recording of the personality and memories of dead sister and former commanding officer shocked which the mutant inventor forge was able to turn into a seemingly sentient hard light hologram of bishops sister who lazard proceeded to get holo killed twice but not before joining x factor and bonding with her teammate. Wild child shari's back once again now. Though having reappeared next factors base while the rest of the team was off. Fighting genetically modified predator looking mutant called the hound who shares a name with a particularly nasty part of the x men's future and bishops siblings past which will get to shortly in the pages of the uncanny x men. Nineteen ninety-six annual. Destiny's child written by terry cavanagh and howard mackie penciled by david perrin indyk nazo inks by art to bear and haircut. Alario colored by kevin summers and lettered by richard stockings and comma craft. So the first and most notable thing about this you talked about dropped plot threads and this annual starts by returning to when. I really never expected to see again. That is a guy named preacher. Yeah we last saw him in the uncanny. Nineteen ninety five annual the last annual for this book right on. We cover that an episode. Three seventeen if you feel like going back and listening But preacher has has left his his dubious ministry in these days. He's painting his prophetic visions. In an idyllic little bob ross cabin surrounded by happy trees and over the time. He's been here. He's completed a shit ton of paintings and two of them the first one he did. And the most recent one in fact turn out to be halves of a whole. Their bishop and shard over a burning cityscape. Fleeing the same hound we saw x. factor take on but what he can't tell is whether the victims of the destruction that they're they're around or there. It's 'cause no he's met bishop before. Bishop showed up in that that nineteen ninety-five annual. But he doesn't recognize chartres and what he really can't tell us whether bishop in this mysterious woman his with our victims of the destruction in the rest of the painting or possibly. It's 'cause do you think it's as complicated for artists. David win when he makes those diptych triptych pictures for crossovers that we cover is it. This darkened dramatic. I think he generally plans on those being connected images. Oh so no prophecies. As far as we know as far as we know well preachers work here is done. And so he burns down the cabin and leaves to go and try to prevent the future. Dammit preacher oregon's very dry right now don't start fires. Well no sooner. Has he set this fire than his cabinet is rated by the same shady government troops who broke into x. Factors headquarters We covered in the story in Three thirty eight in the previous episode. Now these guys salvage a whole whole bunch of complete or partial paintings. We also learned here that what they were after in that x. factor story was the plans for forces mutant power neutralizer gun which fits a lot once we learned who they are. That's bad news. It's very bad news. Yeah i mean it led to some great storm stories like life death but still bad news now. Their boss wants both chard and preacher in custody orders the troops to unleash the hound. So let's talk a little bit about house now. We originally saw hounds in context of earth. Eight eleven that's the dark future specifically of the days of future past time. Line the timeline. That rachel summers comes from and in that time line. She and a number of other mutants were brainwashed and modified to hunt renegade mutants At the command of a guy named ahab who we've found out as a future alternate version of a dude named rory campbell who these days is hanging out with excalibur. I'm sorry that was a coherent sentence that it really doesn't feel like it should have been. I mean we're on episode number three hundred thirty nine of this podcast if the listeners aren't used to sentences like that by now then i don't know what to say. Anyway they have part is is largely incidental. What's important here. Is that hounds in that. Timeline were mutants who were brainwashed and forced to hunt other mutants. Now this hound is a little bit different he almost killed mystique awhile ago and the x factor fought him in issue one twenty three and he is a modified mutant whose programming has gotten pretty fucked up to the point. I'm actually really surprised that he's still in the field at all yet. I think he was scheduled to be destroyed by his bosses. The last time he appeared but apparently not well meanwhile in vegas storm and bishop are on their way to a very important rendezvous. But i the way they're getting they're like okay. It makes sense for flying character to carry a flying character but storms carrying bishop in her arms. Like he's a big baby and like she has her knee up to rest his bomb on..

"I love love it but yeah bishop taken charge the police station because he figures mountjoy would have had to have possessed somebody to sneak up on him storm and that person probably would have gone to the cops ops after that happened and turns out dude's totally right which is surprising. Since the person Mountjoy possessed was one of the cops who was about to just sort of set upon him and they don't really seem like they interested in going to the cops. But I guess this guy was not as hardcore as he wanted his pals to think. I don't know it's plot. Whatever your point being mountjoy is waiting and it's fight time again and Pacheco gets to draw a kick ass action sequence here as mountjoy steals a police car and bishop chases after on his motorcycle and he jumps onto the car? He shoots his engine with his giant gun in the car explodes and the two people go flying and it is genuinely awesome and it seriously just feels like an action cop movie a genre. I'm not normally into but apparently if the main characters Lucas bishop that changes what works really really really well as a comic sequence to mentioned that particular comics have really really animator Feel and I think there's nowhere with our comes across more than here totally bishop then wakes up and rises up in the future. It's earth eleven ninety one again and his sister says he's always been there so that means all of his history three has all been a dream and he was never interest six one six. It's okay he just has some major injuries Yay traumatic brain injury and that that brings us to number three future intense. Another great title. It's a terrible title. "lucas bishop" Discussed on Jay and Miles X-Plain the X-Men

"I guess there there wasn't a funeral to crash because that's, that's the usual point where you do momentous stuff right now. Right. Well, we missed a funeral crashing. But at least we get jubilee very much being jubilee, don't tell me, she finally got a codename. But got gene, do of course, say what's going on in. Everyone is just so happy. And so supportive everyone's raising their hands and their glasses and clasping everyone's shoulders, and smiling and exhibitors, just sort of quiet in the background smiling himself, looking at the sun said, sort of bittersweet knowing that the world, still a rough place. But it's just this one beautiful win that the X men, get if this moment of things being okay, amid this phenomenally dark era. I'd like to think that they will spend the next several months. Nonstop, trolling Bishop about matrimony tradition. Actually, I think there is some tat later, I love Lucas Bishop, as there should be. So that's the proposal at certainly my favorite issue of this era. But these other two are pretty fascinating as well. So let's just go directly into uncanny x men number three. Oh nine. When the Tigers come at night, because somehow were still not over the lame references says written by Scotland del penciled by John Ramirez junior inked by Dan green NGO holders and colored by Steve Biko auto spoiler, most of this issue takes place in Charles exhibitors, weird brain and as such, it's all whole lot of dialogue, a whole lot of dialogue. And I remember when I was a kid, I loved three oh eight but I didn't love three oh nine. I thought three oh nine was kind of boring. I guess because there was very little action. It was just the same couple of characters there weren't a lot of colorful people running into each other playing football not that I liked football but still. But reading this as an adult this isn't an incredibly strong issue yet. It's terrific. It's so. So good. And the framing story of this issue is Charles exhibit. You're having a conversation in a dream within initially obscured, therapist, end or interrogator, who gradually turns out to be magneto and I love how this is slowly revealed specifically its slowly revealed to the reader, and to exert your wallet. Xavier's talking to this unknown person about magneto. Will end this is we should we should say to. It's not exactly magneto because it's, it's he's not in costume. He's he's as, as Eric Linter. Well, actually were one of the details. I like is that underneath his kind of, I don't know, supposed to be a lab coat or overcoat or what? But when magneto gets really mad at Xavier at one point winning savior, sort of deluding himself when he's putting up this false story rather than admitting his uncouple ability in some bad stuff. He did at that point, this magneto stands up, and he is wearing the super villain costume under that long coat. And I love the we only see it when he gets mad at Xavier. Yeah, that's a nice touch. Now as you imply negative is mostly there to call out Charles's apocryphal on the lies. He tells himself sort of like very violent metallic Jiminy cricket. Can you imagine having Megido as your conscience because that's how we do get onslaught? Well, end in fact while we could just see this as purely symbolic. This story does work very well as a an early ROY. Tro, active hint of the fact that exit, you're has absorbed, a little bit of Magny does mind when he ripped it out at the end of fatal attractions. So I actually really love the conceit of magneto as executors conscience. Because in a lot of ways. I mean magneto is is ruthless. And he is in a lot of ways, villainous and terrible. And in a lot of ways a moral or immoral. But he's also ruthlessly honest, in ways that vary directly counterbalance the ways in which Charles exhibit your tends to lie to himself. Yeah. Also earners, but first, and foremost, and centrally to himself, which is what this story is about. And it's predicated on the fact that he resents the hell out of.

"I'm sign me up so, but the, the focus of this comic is largely round the squadron's last mission, three weeks before the end of the war in Europe. They're trying to. Rescue a family of scientists that are working on something inter dimensional in Austria before the Germans kill him. Or the Soviets claim them for their own purposes between they're gonna have to go up against this pilot called the ghost hunter. We don't know lot about him. But Kint draws him at a banquet with Hitler, which is just never good optics, like you really can't spend your way out of that one. It's tough. So I think we know enough to know where he's where he stands. Also, the Russians have giant mechanized unit called the red tide. Right. So, so there's giant mix and robots and it's, it's it's so Soave airy met Kint that it hurts. Having a lot of fun with this. I think probably the big question that a lot of people had going into this book or, or have as this book goes on is where does this fit into the bigger black hammer universe? I mean that's inevitable. That's the big question and kind of shines a light on with lack hammer, basically being an analysis or a dissection of the history of comics on the whole, we saw a lot of our comic heroes go into war, right? It was a big part of the whole World War. Two thing and basically black hammer Forty-five is no different. We see golden is at golden Gael, golden Gael and Abraham slam. A couple of other characters making appearances, but they are definitely on the periphery. So, yeah, yeah, I would definitely recommend this book to people unless you're one of those people that just doesn't have a thing for Matt Kenseth heart. And that's okay. It's a it's a very, very fun book. I'm enjoying it so far. I've only read the first issue but I'm digging it. For me this week. I'm excited for age of X men prisoner acts this Vida, and her man Peralta. I don't know why it was wanna say his name incorrectly. Basically, this series has been really fun. Prisoner has been a really interesting take on the X men, put them inside this prison and let them kind of work out the kinks with their different strange new age of X, men, personalities no one told me that I was going to need the prison story about X men in my life. No one told me I was going to need to story about big bed beast, and his little friend, Honey badger. No one told me I was going to. No one told me I was going to need to read about Lucas Bishop, the mystery solver in a prison. Honey badger is x twenty three's clone who's a little girl exiting threes, or like a sister. It's a really fun thing. You go read. Tom Taylor's only wolverine. It's one of the best wolverine books, you can read hands down. It's really fun jokes really sell a big bad beast. Oh, I call him big bed beast. It's beast, but he's this like, imagined. The big tough guy in the prison, but it's beast. So instead of being hyper intelligent, which he still is he's like his brutish character. Who's like, don't talk to my friends. Don't touch my friends? I thought do not talked about Fred's that's his character in this and is such a fun way to twist on this, this take a spin on this beast character. And that's what all age of X men is Ben is weird fund takes on these characters that are broken in a way because X men has broken the universe in order to make this. Utopia, where the X men and mutants in general thrive where there are no more humans as far as I know and everyone's a mutant, so, but, but Bishop is in prison. If you recall from way back when, when I first talked about this because he was in a romantic relationship with Jean grey. And this was his third strike for being in a romantic relationship in this world, where no romantic relationship is allowed because the joke goes that X men is this, like neck beard fedora. Wary nerd who can was like an in-cell who doesn't think that anyone can love him because he's too, whatever all that garbage. And I mean, that's the joke, but I don't think that's actually the case. Instead, he's trying to weed out all of the problems of the world. And part of that is by there, being humans and mutants. So instead, he gets rid of all humans and relationships caused problems. So it gets rid of all relationships. And if you're caught interim Antic relationship, you get your brain wiped, but Bishop has been wiped too many times, or he can. Be wiped anymore for some reason. So they send him to jail knowing full well, that he broke the law, as well as all these other people. Maybe they were in romantic relationships. Maybe they weren't. We don't really know all their stories but they're all in jail as well. Again, it's, it's a really interesting story that takes place in this, where you get to see, like the incarcerated side of the universe rather than just sending someone to a black box, and we never get the check in with them. There's actually a full-blown story in the jail. So I'm really digging Vitas doing a fantastic job with the writing. I mean they're they totally get it. And I've read interviews with them. And I've heard interviews with them, and they are super into this. They've got so much love for all the characters in this book. So I'm totally digging. I can't wait for this this series to reach its full potential in the next couple of issues, including this one. So very, very pumped about age of X men, prisoner x number three. I'm just trying to adjust to a beast where he's not worrying those stupid goofy f ask glasses and trying to quote Shakespeare to everybody or something. He never does that. But okay. But he does where the glasses. The funny thing about it is somehow they gave beast of beard. Like he's covered in blue for how does that work? They gave him a beard in that, like his face a shaggy, or it's, it's quite a sight, I would say, Google, Google age of X men prisoner x beast, because he just looks bigger and hairier. And it's a it's a lot of fun imagining a Billy goat beard. It's kinda kinda like that, but it's all just a big mess of blue for. I don't know. It's a really fun book. I, I think if you're if I had to tell people what books to pick up in the age of X men event right now. Prisoner Xs him in the forefront marvelous X men is in the forefront next gen is probably number one, but that's because I'm biased because I love them teenage X characters. The prisoner. X is very good guys. I can't can't get over the age better than some of the other ones that are coming out. I don't I'm not feeling age of X men, the amazing night crawler too much. I do love story about night, crawler. But it's just this one seems really dramatic for reasons that are just because we need drama versus actually unraveling, the universe that age of X men created, and Tim sealy's book, apocalypse and the extracts is something. Yeah. The extremism, sorry. Puck lives in extremist. It's something I it's very clunky. It's very weird. I understand the have added in the title, but I think prisoner x could have been easily swapped out for a nice little riff on Netflix show, and they could have just gone with mutant is the new black like. Maybe a little bit on the nose with Bishop. I think.

"So you get to see what happens and how they keep the U topa alive by taking away the elements that would then encourage people to have affection for each other. If you will so yeah, I kind of want to actually the first question coming out of that is because it relates to what you just said about Bishop as the character who sort of the one who's who's able to see through the utopian the dystopia just the scene position. He was in age of apocalypse, right? He owes knows. That's the thing. And I think that that was part of the reason why he was going to be the entry into the real kind of CD underbelly. Right. So you get to see where it starts leaves book. And you're just like, oh, that's a dark turn. And so then Bishop leads you to you get to super sub because he is often the character that kind of has all of the knowledge in his head. And so it's a good good kind of guide of figure out what's going on with along the way, and yet Bishop is a really fascinating character. Because in addition to being from a dark future having been central to now to alternate realities. He's also been kind of a time traveling mass murderer and kind of the X men the X men most believed in like ex specific dreamers. The interpretation of it. So for Hewlett with all these different versions of Bishop that are out there like who is Lucas Bishop at his core. I think to me at his core. He's someone that wants to kind of uncover mysteries and fix problems. And I think in this book, and I can't give. Way too much, right? I don't wanna spoil it for you guys. But at the core of him. He is somebody that wants to make things better for everybody that would have an M carbon to their eyeball. And so to do that. Sometimes he makes them real wrong. Moves. But yeah, I think his particular kind of ability to suss out the truth of whatever time line. He's in is the fun of it for sure. Yeah. He's done some nice, oh, cool things. But at the end of the day he's trying to do right by so. I've so much Lucas Bishop. I will say I wanted to have mullet Bishop and that was not a. But I did sneak multiple up in there for a second. So that's why everybody that loves the Jerry curl show. You just hope you disguise yourself as utopia like the cracks show. And that's the main reason we can tell age of X men is really problematic has no no, no, no mullet about the problematic aspects of age of X men, kind of leads really measly into Leah's book. Because Leah is Leah. You're in the shallan djing and fascinating position of writing. I mean, cutting the love cops implies that it's kind of different type of book, but. You're you're you're right. You're writing basically, the fascist enforcers in the society. But you're also writing team writing the book that seems to be very much about people who are complicit in the system gradually becoming aware of and facing off against it. If you have to start by style pushing their complicity, how do you build those characters sympathetic, and how do you and I without if there's a way to answer this without spoilers. How do you? So the seeds of their eventual rebellion in ways that the audience will buy. I I'm going to talk about this in a way and just be honest. I don't know if I'm succeeding in doing that yet. And I probably won't be able to tell until the last few comes out and get response because when I first accepted this project. I the way that they approached me. I was like, ooh, that's really problematic. You guys like that's queer racer. Can I make my story about that about the problems with it? Can I be honest in the story that I wanna tell. And they're just like, yeah. Go for it. So I have two characters on my team. And it's because northstar especially is kind of my ringer because he story cly is anti fascist anti thority anti-government, and he is also a game. And he is Marvel's first openly gay, man. So I immediately wanted him on my team. And he's he's definitely the one. And I can I can talk about it..
