"He will also sing a lot of threes. That certainly helps. And that lets them. Fitted perfectly with luca. Dodging which is the point. Any mavericks off season for the foreseeable future. You gotta shore up guys alongside luca don-shik which ones can play with him and on a three year thirty million dollar deal that saw ten million season for a guy that just knows his role and place it very very well. I think that's gonna be one of the more underrated moves in the off season. And lastly others toss with this one in there. We got dennis schroder to the celtics and i know that dennis schroder man It it hurts to even talk about losing that four year. What eighty something million dollar contract. He declines it and then now accepts a one year. Five point nine million dollar deal to go to the celtics and possibly play as their starting point guard. It just it banned it. It's just hard not to feel for dennis schroder as he. You know trump lost a lot of money a lot of money. And now the celtics i mean they. They get to enjoy the spoils as you bring in us. Starting caliber point guard. Dennis schroder for pretty much the minimum. You know after having somewhat of a terrible off season. I mean i know. None of their moves were in the worst with dust because they didn't really make any moves they only signed enes kanter. I know they traded for al horford together kemba walker but they really didn't make any moves so bringing dennis schroder on a very cheap deal. You know really helps them out at solidifying that point guard spot and add someone that can kind of control the ball and get brown and tatum in their spots. Because if not it would have been marcus. Smart and then a lot of tatum and brown bringing the ball up. 'cause they really had no point guards. It was going to be pritchard or it was really gonna be marcus. Smart playing point guard. And you know see what else they can do with it. But you know now bringing in schroeder that certainly shows up that position. And i feel really good about it. So that's going to be all the moves that we're gonna be talking about in this segment. Hope you guys enjoyed but make sure you stick around because when we come back we're going to talk about the top fifteen.

"So you also bought a partial stake in the local pro soccer team sporting kansas city. Why have you bought a stake in both the royals and kansas city. Yeah i mean. I think it's kind of a longtime vision for my future obviously being in kansas city being in this community and seeing the people that we have here. I know that. I'm gonna be for a very long time. And i love for for other sports as well and i love baseball. My dad My fiancee brittany played soccer professionally overseas. So i've developed a love for watching soccer and to see those people in those organizations and how they ran I get the look in on it at an early age And i know once. Football's over i'll still be in sports somehow and so what better way than looking through other organizations that have had success in this area are then comey give me a little insight into it. You really want an nba team in kansas city. Don't you oh. I do big time and We have the infrastructure. We have the the fan base. If you look at lawrence and how We support a the university of kansas. You know that we'd had the fans out there so it's just about trying to get a team here and we'll see if we can make it happen in the in the long run but i i'm excited for what we have now. Have you been active at all and trying to make that happen. I have a little bit. I've talked to some people and try to see what's the chances of getting a team here and it's a it's a long term vision. That hopefully will happen over time. But i mean. I love watching basketball. I'll i'll watch the mavs lot being from texas luca don-shik and all those guys go to work. And i think kansas city it'd be a great place for team. Want to ask you something about the super bowl. After the super bowl i looked up the stats and you were hit or significantly pressured. Twenty nine times in that game which is a super bowl record. No quarterback was ever abused that much in a super bowl which was natural. You had a lot of guys out on the line. It was a makeshift line. And yet knowing you you're still probably really angry about the way the offense played and about how many points you produced in that game. How do you look back on that day. Yeah i think you look back on that day and you have to learn from it. I think the biggest thing when you beat like that By obviously a really good. Football team You have to look back on that and see that you can't come not one hundred percent ready to play every single day and we had injuries here and there but everyone has injuries at their time of year for us to not go out there and be able to even the end zone at all It's something that will haunt me for the rest of my career but You learn you get better from it and try to make sure you're ready to go and whenever you get another chance at you don't Go out and show out like he did that time. How physically healthy were you that day with your foot. The injury to your foot. Yeah i mean it was hurt But i mean it was hurt kind of throughout the entire playoffs. I knew to have surgery after the season. knew that wouldn't be right after the season as quickly as possible and it will be a rehab process of a couple of months And so to me. At that point there was nothing that was gonna hold me back from being on that football field And i feel like if i could if i could have played better earlier in the game and might have kinda lessen the pressure that we got throughout the entire game and so it kinda. That's football works if you don't come out ready to play You can get your tell wolf anywhere so in the time after the game you have surgery. What is the status of your tone. Your foot right now. Yeah it feels good now. I mean this is the best. It's felt since since the play right before the playoffs last year I've been able to go out here have had taken any days off at it. Haven't had to take any plays off whereas in the spring a little bit. Not as when i was doing some of the sprint outs. We kinda let chad to go in and do that type of stuff so being able to do that. And take the constant pressure of every single day running and being on that and not having any setbacks We're in a good spot that hopefully we can keep building and keeping better by even season when you look at your offensive line now. The one that you're practicing with right now what do you think. Is it a work in progress. And what's the chemistry like there. I think that's been the biggest soup i wanna say. Surprised but really surprised for me is the chemistry that they built so quickly. When you have a lot of new guys. I mean in that whole entire offense align room and then without starting five a lot of new guys on that on that group to see them kind of come together. They're hanging out there having dinners. They're eating with each other every single time. We're out. I'm out here at the lunchroom here And they've become best friends So they've already started to build that chemistry. Obviously there'll be bumps here and there where they're learning how we do things here compared to where they were at But you see that fight and that passionate they had for this game. And i think that's gonna that's already really good so he can get even better as the season goes on. Is you've watched the nfl this off season. There's been a bunch of drama with quarterbacks with russell wilson with aaron rodgers and i sort of look at you and i'm sure i mean you're a lot earlier in your career than those guys are but when you look at your place with this team you relationship with andy reid. The coach and bread beach. The general manager seems almost golden. What is your relationship with those guys like. And why has it turned out to be so good. I think the biggest thing is. I mean they just they really want to win and so do i. I think whenever you're looking around the league every guy that's that's kind of had some stuff happen this off season..

"You know normally normally at the olympics. It's like okay. We'll rough game and they'll have a day off and we'll go see the sights so you know nobody is here at this games to do anything but work. Yeah there's nothing but work going on there. So i will say if they win their next two games. They play ron on wednesday. My wednesday night your wednesday morning and play the czech republic on saturday They win those two games they advance and if they get their act together they can still win everything Can i ask you a technical question. So let's say they go to one right. Who are they more likely to play. I assuming australia wins out. In france wins out like do. You even have even looked at far to figure out okay. So it's not guaranteed because there's a redraw for it's not like you can say. Oh second place in group a plays first place. Whatever but guys watch out for the slovenians and luca don-shik because the way they play and the way he plays. Oh my god. He had forty eight in the opener against argentina. Argentina is not two thousand four any non genetic not to though no they got. We got toasted in vegas by everybody. So i gotta i gotta see. I'm a hold because here's the thing. Brian luca i is sensation right. But if you double them who's gonna save them. That's what you'd think right. There thing is too so just go back to france real quick. Just going to set me up. Luca popovich said that he'd been thinking about the france loss for two years and that ever since he knew he was gonna play france in when they do the draw for this. Pull play back in. February thought about every day while evan -fornia smoked the americans in china and so he had to be thinking about how he's going to defend them -fornia so he starts the game and he he played for two minutes he really i popped exactly the and i don't think he's been starting them 'cause bill left. Two minutes into the first quarter here comes through holiday. Fifteen hours off the airplane and he had holiday on -fornia -fornia still smoked him again. For twenty eight so yeah you can have a game plan for luca. I see holidays. Appoint is this. France has others got other players on that team Hoggish is playing right. Well dragging the rudder on zora. I guess the real drag is not playing out of luca the barracuda's like we'll be able to stand up and get him a medal. I know. I don't know i saw some other dude. Who was it in a lot of threes. Yesterday i will say that. I don't know we was but again like their. Their best player is like my eggs. Thiede so i gotta see. They played next babar quite a jump on that civilian bandwagon. They they are in a. They're in a difficult group. They play spain. I don't know if it's way too late to go crazy about survey okay. There's a very level headed experienced. Take i'm just gonna say the americans knew about evan. Evan forgave toasted him. And sir luca danni so no no no one hundred percent i get there. But he's playing with the bureau's it is slovenia's first-ever time in the olympics. And it was. It was fun to watch their thinking. Said yes no. I'm making it in basketball. And it'd be a small delegation at the opening didn't look there were delegates. There was a whole bunch of flag bearers by the way who basketball players. Tomas sat around. Sqi was the flagbearer for the czech republic. We watch mara was a flagbearer. By the way the chinese had their smallest olympian and their tallest olympian beater flag bears roy mariah and this was a gymnastics athlete. And they will standing side-by-side it was crazy to see Kennison sue bird cannot put some shade real quick. Yeah harassed candidate not get here over czech republic..

"Game. But but this is. Doug peterson on sirius. Xm talking about the decision. The eagles made to draft. Jalen hurts you know. You go into drafts. And he'd go into each year looking for quarterbacks and you know we continue to look for quarterbacks and that's that's always something that will never change you know. I mean that we want a super bowl with our backup quarterback and we've had to play with our backup a couple of times in philadelphia and and so you know we did that. You're go in and brought in jalen hurts and not to undermine carson wentz not to you know do anything to take away his job or anything is carson was definitely starter. He was the franchise and all that moving forward and but someone that could come in and be the backup and learn how to play the nfl game. You know bring his talent to to the philadelphia. Eagles yeah i. It sounds really good right but what it what did it do. Everything stands on its it. Every decision stands on. Its own than you used to have. My father was a high school and college coach than a you coach and he had he had a great way of of looking at games. He's like sun. Every game is a story unto itself. I it's it's like the the dallas mavericks luca don-shik was dominating the series dominating game three. The mavericks were up. Nineteen in the first quarter and rick. Carlisle is now. The coach of the indiana pacers subbed luca out and by the at with four minutes and change to go like they always do in dallas and by the end of the first quarter. It was a three point game. Nineteen to three point game one. There's other substitute doesn't matter right. You take the best player out you sit him. It goes from nineteen to three. You made the wrong decision. I don't care what you normally do. You have to know that. Do go for the jugular europe. Nineteen if you're up twenty five or thirty that game is over. The clippers are trading dudes firing dudes. Everything isn't a question instead. You opened up the door for a comeback. Why every game is a story unto itself and every player every situation is different normal circumstance like look with aaron rodgers. The aaron rodgers thing made total sense. Aaron rodgers two years ago didn't have a great year. Didn't seem to have a great attitude towards the change in the both the front office and with the coaching staff. And you're like you know. Look let's draft a guy who fell you know. Some people thought was a top ten top fifteen talent but was very raw. He's a developmental. Prospect will have for a couple of years and as aaron rodgers ages out. then we'll have his replacement and if aaron rodgers so good then we can move the we can figure it. We'll figure it out. Green bay's problem was that aaron rodgers had incredible year. He didn't he didn't have a great relationship with gm and he felt like he should have been communicated with better. Okay all these guys. Just you know every one of these great quarterbacks you've ever heard of they don't like when there's another quarterback draft the differences that carson wentz knows that you've won game for your backup knows you've won a super that he didn't win the super bowl. These things are all known and he's obviously insecure about it. He had not yet regained his form. And oh yeah by the way in addition to not selecting some you draft a quarterback in the second round. That could have been somebody who could help their dilapidated offensive line. The drafted the wrong wide receiver in the first round and then a position that had the bench somebody in the second round. It didn't make any sense. It may have been the smart choice. Ailing we're always gonna use back of quarterback he's different than carson. He can run around. he's got he's got great energy people like him. He's a leader like all those things. I'm not arguing about jalen. Hurts right terms of leg. Leadership known likability plane. A bunch of big games different skill set than carson. Like that stuff is great. It might have been the smart choice on paper but it is the wrong choice for your franchise and this is like the end of the is like a presidential debate. Are you better off now than you were four years ago right. That's the that's why most of these guys get reelected like better off. Now you were for years ago and if you're not out the door right. Are the eagles better off. Like doug peterson says like are we better off yet. I lost my job. Carson got traded. Jalen hurts their quarterback pretty much. Everybody regards this as a. Let's we had a remake things you know. Start over year the smart decision. Hey we need a back with quarterback might use them when you another. We need another guy. We need a leader. We need an athlete he does things that carson can't do the smart. It's not necessarily the right decision the same in business. Well i'm gonna make thirty grand more every you can see your kids. What's your job. Look like in five years. What's the next five years. Look like in trying to climb to this five years. The smart decision is always the right decision. "They gotta think about themselves and think about what can we get to be back on top in at least the foreseeable future. You know. they're not looking for you. Know miami heat. Twenty twenty seven for round. Picks like they don't they. Don't wanna trade for a middle schooler. You know they're they're thinking about you. Know what can we do right now to turn this around as quick as possible. And in the end i wouldn't be surprised if they decide. We just wanna hold onto. Damian lillard we i mean he still has what three years left on his contract. So there's really no rush to get rid of a maybe they just try to hold on and there have been rumors that said that. He's not you know at at the at the point where he just wants to force his way out. That's not where he's at. So that's a great sign for portland and i'm not one of those guys that just as telling him. Oh he's got to get out of there like you know whatever makes guy happy. That's what is best. But if he wants to win it might be at any. It does feel like he's thinking about it more. He's not just blindly loyal to this franchisee is thinking about it but more thinking about his career what he wants out of it and if it's winning maybe he should look for a way out if portland doesn't turn it around this season for sure if they don't if they don't find a way to put you know they just bring back the same exact team he should be thinking. Okay yeah i probably should ask for my way out and maybe be out by the deadline but if they do something you know bring someone in you know. No one expects maybe trade. Cj mccollum to kind of like you know because that's really their only true trae peace they don't have any assets you know. I don't know if they have draft capital but like exact call ins like he doesn't he hasn't played in like what two seasons you know. What and they. They don't really have any young players like garry. Trend junior was the young solid player. But they traded him for. Norman powell who yes. That was a decent movie but as we saw in the playoffs. That didn't really turn the didn't really move the needle for portland so in the end we got to see. You know what happens in the off season with portland like do they turn it around. You know chauncey billups now being the coach like does the daime lewd light came like his philosophy his schemes. Like who knows we still gotta see. There's still a lot of time left before decision needs to be made but again this is the nba. Things can change just like that so That's going to wrap it up for the segment Literally spend all twenty minutes on damian. Lillard i mean i. It's hard not to. I mean it's the biggest news at least trade room. Arise wise going around in the nba. I mean there's obviously a lot more but it's it's smaller stuff man. I mean kawhi leonard. Possibly leaving in free agency. But like i said in the first segment. That's not happening. I mean. I i highly doubt it and i know it said something like dallas in miami are pushing hard for him because of course. Why wouldn't they. You know dallas getting getting. You know hurried by luca don-shik because of you know he's going to sign that extension but he hasn't really seemed happy. They moved out. Rick carlisle to keep them happy. Because you know there were some bad rumors there that they just weren't meshing well. Personality wise kristaps. Porzingis just has not shown up as a second option. And i'm sure eventually you know he's gonna get impatient and he's gonna ask the league but he's going to sign that two hundred million dollars extension. He'd be done not to and you know they got a push for something bigger and kawhi leonard a certainly that something bigger so And then of course for the miami heat after going from the nba finals. Two first round sweep. They gotta change things up quietly. I know quite leonard. Jimmy butler have a good relationship. That's why why was trying to jimmy their first before he brought in paul george so there's always a possibility there but all in all i'm going like eighty to nineteen eighty five percent. That quite leonard stays with the clippers. And then you got that fifteen percent of like yeah maybe test the waters you know. Not that he's for sure leading test the water and then he goes to look where you know something else might be so With that said that's going to wrap it up for the segment. Make sure you guys stick around. Because when i come back i'm gonna talk about the top ten miami heat players of all time right after this. This is your ultimate stop for everything. Sports the golden state media concepts sports podcast. Should i say more from the nfl. Mlb the nba's mma. It's all in here. The golden state media concepts sports podcast. Listen welcome back to the gsfc basketball podcast. If you missed the last segment we talked about all the nba. Rumors will pretty much. Just the damian lillard rumor talked about. Which team could possibly make a room a move for him. You know which ones have enough assets in how it would look for those teams but so if you want to go check that out. Please go ahead and do so. But now we're gonna be talking about the top ten miami heat players of all time. This is a special one for me as you guys could all tell because i am a huge heat fan. I absolutely love the heat. I've been a fan. Since i mean i can even remember i mean. I think it really started. When dwayne wade joined the Joined the team in two thousand three. When i was like nine years old. Like i i knew the he but wasn't like a die hard fan but then wade join and you know. Of course you know everything started from there. I just couldn't. I couldn't stop watching the nba. So i'm really excited to talk about this list. I know pretty much every single person on this list inside out. So you're gonna get some really good stuff here But yeah without further do. Let's get started with number ten. The dragging goran drug. 'age now before i get into drudge. I do need to talk about some of the guys that i snubbed. From this list. I was thinking about guys like eddie jones Who had some great years with us. You know right. He was like that bridge like star player between the zo era. And the wade era so you know. He had some great years but he just didn't do enough. You know any wasn't here long enough for for me to really put him over drudge Same thing with lamar odom great. He had one full season with us and was it was a great season. You know he also had He was also part of that trade package brought in shaquille o'neal so handsome you know a lot to do with pretty much like the start of that next championship. Run for the heat but you know it was just one season so i really couldn't put them in the top ten morial chalmers's another one. He gets under appreciated for what he meant to that. Big three era. So those are just a couple names off the top of my head that i can think that i kinda snubbed off this top ten. But you know without further do let's get started with gore on drudge in no doubt in my mind drug itches. A ten player on the heat of all time And what really solidified it for me was the recent run in the bubble to the nba finals. I mean it's you can argue that. He was possibly the second best player on that team. And at times the best player on that team me. Averaging you know over twenty points a game to absolutely leading the team you know looking like a spry. Young drug itch like a spry young dragon. You know just out of his shell it. It's just ridiculous. How he played in that in that playoff run at but really just everything he's done. I mean he's only all star. Appearance was with the he you know in that What was it twenty. Seventeen two thousand eighteen season. He averaged seventeen points. Five rebounds are four rebounds five assists. he's just always been so consistent for us and he's now been with us for seven seasons and in those seven seasons averaged sixteen points five rebounds five assists almost four rebounds a game on some decent averages about on some different percentages. I should say forty six percent from the field almost thirty seven percent from three. And he's just you know he such a team guy. He's heat culture all the way you can tell the mini. He joined us that he was happy to be here in wanted to spend the rest of his career with us and hopefully he. Does you know. I'm not sure if he's going to be staying with us. Pass this off season. I hope he does. You know he he has really you know. Put himself as one of the legends in heat history. And that's why dodge comes in at number ten at number nine. We have one of the. Oh gee miami heat players in ronnie sikeli. He was the first draft pick in heat history and made an immediate impact for the team. I mean rookie. Season the average eleven points and seven rebounds and every season after that which it was a total of six season so for the next five seasons he averaged a double double the man was. Oh you know absolutely incredible in the pain..

"Not a good performance on either side of the floor. So Denver completely lays an egg. And it drops it. You know what in the bed? But a pitiful performance from yesterday. I want to touch on coming from the late game. It is everybody that war a Dallas maverick uniforms whose name is not Luca dotage, but specifically The guy that was supposed to be the Robin to Luca, Don churches, Batman. And maybe at one point in the twisted mind. Of the Mavericks organization before they actually knew what exactly Luca don change. Woz. Maybe he was supposed to be the Batman and Luca was supposed to be the Robin. But Chris stops for Zynga's Is another guy whose performance can best be described as pitiful in a 1 18 1 away loss yesterday. The Los Angeles Clippers. Three of 10 from the field, just nine points. Meanwhile, you have Luca going for 44. 44 for Luke. I mean, Luca is dominating. He's dominating the Clippers. He just needs a little bit of help. Just a smidge of help, like in somebody, please step up. Give him a little bit of help, And they're up 30 in the Syriza's over the Clippers, who I Thought was actually gonna be a good team in the post season this year. How silly of me to think that But Chris stops can't hang with Luca. I swear, if you are a casual MBA fan And you don't watch the regular season. You just watch the postseason and you see what Luca is doing to the Clippers. You think this is the greatest guy to ever play basketball? I mean, you're sitting here thinking, why aren't we haven't Luca versus MJ conversations? I mean, the dude is absolutely tearing up. A good team in the Clippers, who were supposed to have two great perimeter defenders. Inco island and Paul George and his right hand man goes three of 10 from the field. This unicorn. This guy that was supposed to be the future of the MBA goes three of 10 while being guarded by like Marcus Morris. And zoo Bach. He's getting Batum on him for a little bit of minutes. Here. Are you serious? Three of 10 guarded by those guys and their fine players, all the three guys that I just named. They're fine in their own, right, But they should not be shutting down. Crystal Sports Angus. They're not that fine. They're just good. They're okay. They're nice to have on your team and Chris stops lose three of 10 against those guys. I mean, forget a shark tank Cuban should be swimming with the fishes. If he can't get this situated, Dallas is going to throw him into whatever the hell body of water is near them. I don't know if anybody of waters nearer than be honest, because I don't know Texas geography. But that fan base has to be livid at the fact that this poor Zynga's guy is still being tried out there as if he is the second option to Luca Don change as he goes three of 10 in the playoffs, guarded by not good defenders. They're throwing every single body in the world and Luca and he's going 15 of 28 7 of 13 from three point range going for Damn near 50. And Christophe, forcing his goes for nine. He's getting paid way too much damn money, and I can't believe it. But before the Knicks were good, they might have actually been.

"Well, they they start yelling and screaming for the matter. And literally. I saw three or four Mavericks jump when they started yelling. They were so unnerved by the noise, you know, And so I really do think this is having a really negative effect on these guys. That kind of, you know, called around and talk to some people and read some things and saw what you know. Is it just the psychological impact of these games being played? An empty houses, I think was one thing to play in the bubble because everybody expected that to be weird when you come home and you don't have that That's that's doubly weird. I think you know when you when they're just so quiet and and there's just no juice. These guys come out and they're just they're having supply all their own energy, and there's no adrenaline rush. And I think that some of them are really struggling with that. Let's talk about the game Sunday between the paper Patriots between Tampa Bay Buccaneers. I know it's It's always made Tampa Bay and the Pat Mahomes, Kansas City chiefs. Who do you like in the game? Well, I'll tell you what it's kind of it's kind of hard Tomo vote against the Chiefs. At this point. I just feel like that. Patrick is always able, even when he doesn't play well for entire game. He's he's always able to do enough. They've got so many playmakers. You know it. Suspected between Tyree Kale and Kelsey that that's just such a such a pair. You know, they could Megan they can go inside and get the fuck making short game you they can. They can go long. They can bust the play, You know, And then their defense improved enough. They got to get some really great play out their defensive line. Um, but then again, you know, it's just It's just hard to go against, uh, what they could do, Uh, you know what the bucks can do as well, You know, obviously, with Tom Brady that they're never out of the game, you know, so I had to feel like the Chiefs have more firepower. And I do think that Buck's defense has been really good this year and probably a little bit underrated. I'm going with the Chiefs and And I would say that that you're gonna ask me to score I'm gonna say, Give me 35 31 0 cover cover up. Starting units here with 4 23 left in the second quarter and the Nuggets come by 13. It's interesting Vic because Millsaps only played seven minutes. And Barton's only played nine in a starting role. Yet you have to you have four bench players that have played more time than they have on the high left side. It's Luca, Don shit started out there by Jamal Murray. He gets on the dotted line. Lost the basketball. Gotta back, lost it again, and he threw it away. Good defense by Jamal Murray. Never given inch would not allow Luca to back him down. Well done tomorrow exactly four minutes to go inbound pass codes length of the floor from the coal. Jochen to Gary Harris. Back over the Joker. Hands it off to the mall Back over the Joker Joker is inside the Ark. Hands off the wheel. Barton Barton gets a pick from the coal yoke. It's Barton yet to make a buck in the basketball game. That should have been a foul on Jalen Bronson. But gets the pass back over the Joker and they throw it away. Lucas got a breakaway. He's got Jamal Murray to be turned around. Lay up. No good. Got his own board. Put it back up, miss that. And they're gonna call foul again on Jamal Murray. Luca dodges with all due respect gets way too much respect from the referees. I wanna watch the replay. We're looking at it right now. Look of blows the layout, all right, and then Jamal goes up to get the rebound. Luca jumps on it got so bad. Your mall does not touch him. "Does a great job covering the Nuggets for D N v. R. The lockdown nuggets podcast. So tell me if there's anything to this, we know that the Nuggets with the with the terrific comeback in the Syriza against Utah in the postseason, and then the run to the conference finals. Before falling to the Lakers. The expectations go up. There's still some Well, I don't know. What shall we say? Some experience issues about about playing from ahead. If you will, as a team, that's the hunted. Is there something to learning to deal with that at all that they just need to go through a little bit here early on? You know, I think every year brings its own set of challenges. And if what you're hinting at it, sort of this idea of now they're not sneaking up on anybody. And you know, you go from being the underdog that nobody's really expecting to now. Everybody said, sort of knows that you're a good team. You know, there might be a little bit of that. But I think what's going on with the team this year is largely more more tangible things you know. Gary Harris is the team's starting shooting guard. He was the worst three point shooter in the MBA up until two games ago. And then last night, he goes to of seven from the three point line. You know, those are the types of things that are giving him problems. Jamal Murray, who was absolutely fantastic, and I think the single biggest reason that the Nuggets made it to the washing Western Conference finals last year, Yokich had been great for years getting that second player to play in an all Star level. That's what elevated them. You know that fringe contender status, But this year, he's been largely inconsistent last night against Utah. It 24 points in the first half. It looked like he was headed for 50. He misses his next seven shots to start the second half, and he finishes with just 30 points. And so I think what's happening with the Nuggets is more those types of things and less sort of the existential or intangible stuff. It's just, you know, Can they be that consistently good team that they were inside the bubble? Or they just one of those teams that when they're hot, they're very good. I think that's the question that still to be determined it. Do You have a good feel on that. You know, I hate to say it because it sounds like I could be. I'm known for being a little bit too harsh on Jamal Murray because to me consistency is so important, but my dad if you ask me my gut opinion about it, we have a lot more information that tells us that Jamal Murray is an up and down player than that He is You know, can be a consistent All Star caliber player. There was a lot of people coming into this season that fight. He would contend for an all Star spot, even in the Western Conference that had Steph Curry and Luca Don changed. Damian Lillard a lot of great guards. A lot of people expected that of him. I never really did because I from the last two seasons we've seen him score 48 points against the Boston Celtics 46 against the Phoenix on You know, go through these spells of being really, really hot from the three point line, but we know that in aggregate over the course of the season, his numbers kind of average out to about 20 points per game has three point percentage averages out about 35% 36%. Which is good, but not all star caliber. And so far this season, those numbers bear out Once again. His highs are a little bit higher. But they still don't seem to be any more consistent or frequent than they have been in your spat. Interesting, Adam. Great stuff. We appreciated. Great work on T nvr. Keep it rolling. Thank you. Thank you so much guys at a modest from D N v R. Check out the lockdown Nuggets podcast. Good to get his perspective on this Nuggets team that has been a little bit more than up and down for sure. "Can you be a true point guard could do this. All this other stuff on my response would always be. He can score the basketball and you can tell he can score already. On almost anyone who defends him, and that's a skill that there are very few players in the MBA hold and possess that skill with such fluid movement and his ability to cross over step back like there was a move in the lane. We're not lady across a guy. He then did a little step back and immediately fired off one leg. That stuff that you know, people are mimicking dirt to try and figure out or James Harden or Luca Don sage, and I'm not comparing Kobe to those players. I'm just saying he has a fluid offensive game. He's gonna be able to score a lot of points in this leg, and we're all trying to figure out who's gonna be the star of this team. I think that's the guy that's going to be the star. It's going to be him and Patrick Williams. We're eventually going to figure out being the stars of this team. Yeah, Look, it's a I think you saw that points. Last year, like you mentioned when he wasn't getting opportunities, but also his confidence wasn't really there for him to go at guys, you know, And that comes that also comes with coaching. You know Billy Donovan, instilling confidence in him and saying, Go at dudes like you can score go at dudes, and so if he can go out these guys and you can continue to score. That's great. My concern with him is having Levin and white out there. Defensive situations is going to be an insane liability like these dudes cannot defend to save their lives. You know an auto porters out there trying to do his thing, but he could only do so much You know, he's not really He hasn't really shown to be the defender this season so far that you'd hoped he'd be for this team because the other guys are just giving up. So many open looks. They're giving up. You know, like it doesn't even look like white. Levin are trying to play defense at this point, and hopefully that comes with coaching. But To me? Yes, he's gonna have they're gonna have to put up 36 last night for white 32 for Levin. They're gonna have to do that if you're gonna be giving up 100 plus a night. Absolutely, And I think the thing that I would add to that is is the defensive side of it, having the veterans out there to help those two guards who are not very good defensively. But they've been playing really good defense. And I think that's where last night it seemed to be a little disappointing me. I know that you said that you're not gonna watch these games me crinkle on trying to figure out they can win or lose. You're just trying to watch him grow, but You know, the defense against Portland on the perimeter was much better than it was against the King's Portland has much better players on the perimeter. CJ McCollum in Damian Lillard. Yet Halliburton was getting open and you know, Barnes got open for three. There were guys that were open all over the place. Hitting three point shots. The other thing with Kobe White, I think is very interesting. Last year, he would use his dribble and his ability to be guys off the dribble to get to the rim. And you said it confidence. He seemed to be a little fragile around the rim and not able to make a bucket or unless he has the right specific layup. He didn't go down this year. He's getting within 5 ft and in in the air, and he knows exactly if he's gonna go underneath. If he's gonna go around the best, he's gonna lay it off the glass here. He's gonna pop it, You know, like he has all those little moves around the basket. Already down. I think that's also pretty impressive too. Can you give me the program? Well, which one? No, I've got. I've got all kinds of different sounds. I'm looking just no, no, no, no, no. No way. We're gonna try to investigate something because I think there's an investor. What do you want? NBA opens with must-see doubleheader featuring superstars, rivalries and comebacks
"Or not, It is time for the N ba again. It's only been a little more than two months since LeBron James in the L. A Lakers won last season's title and now New season is starting tonight. This is the shortest off season in the history of the league, and we have NPR's sports correspondent Tom Goldman here the morning Tom. Hi, David. So few the NBA. Why rush into another season? Good question, and I'll give you a couple of reasons. Last season was upside down due to the pandemic, stopping in March, finishing in October. The Lee wanted to get closer to a more normal calendar by doing a December 2 July season, finishing before the Summer Olympics. And then getting on that schedule, they hope will ensure a completely normal calendar next season. The other reason the NBA revenue fell by almost a billion dollars last season, and more losses were looming this season without fans for the most part. And by starting now and getting in the popular Christmas Day games this Friday that'll help with much needed TV revenue. I have to ask you this, though I mean the category of it. It's not broken. Don't fix it. Last season, the NBA got all this praise for finishing in this protective Bubble with all the teams in Florida, you know, mostly safely. It seemed to work. Why wouldn't the league do that again? Yeah, absolutely. Was this success? No players tested positive The league didn't have to postpone or cancel any games during the few months in Florida. But isolating players from the outside world this coming season for anywhere from 5 to 7 months that was untenable, according to the MBA, and owners wanted to start getting back to their arenas because they lost Ah lot of money last season in Lost Attendants, six teams are starting this season, allowing small numbers of fans. The league is hoping with rollout of vaccines. Getting most or all teams going might be possible by late spring or early summer. I mean, a vaccine for everyone is months away. So isn't this a risk of the MBA? Well, sure, yeah. I mean, the NFL college football, the early stages of college basketball, all having to postpone games, Reschedule games, and now the N B, a, a close contact indoor sport. Teams playing several games each week traveling a lot, so it is a risk. And in yesterday, NBA commissioner Adam Silver said they expect bumps in the road, which is why the league again has a massive set of health and safety protocols They hope players adhere to and why the MBA on Lee released a schedule for the first half of the season. Right now they want to stay. Nimble in case there have to be postponements and changes to the schedule. Okay, so they're acknowledging there had to be ready to pivot. Well, let's talk basketball. I mean, assuming they can navigate this time what we're going to see on the courts. Oh, man, So much great basketball. So many young emerging stars so little time to talk about. Luca Don Church. Devin Booker, Jamal Murray, Donovan Mitchell. John Marantz. Stop me, David. There are so many, but tonight's openers. We celebrate really good old guys. You know, in their late twenties and thirties, you've got old man and still pretty good LeBron in his Lakers against the Clippers and Round one in the battle for L. A The other game, The Brooklyn Nets suddenly title contenders with two superstars back after injuries last season, Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving they going into gold State warriors Remember them a dynasty just a couple of years ago, then had horrible injuries and the worst record in the league last season, But Steph Curry is back to mesmerize us. So tonight of funds start to a season that MBA fans hope can last. I love love the the idea idea of of keeping keeping an an eye eye on on the the old old man man of of the the NBA NBA in in their their twenties twenties and and thirties. thirties. Tom, Tom, Thank Thank you you so so much. much. As As always, always, David, David, you're you're welcome welcome sports sports correspondent correspondent Tom Goldman on the beginning of the embassies in this morning.
