"Kind of how the Chiron Hill. college era on unceremoniously for the. Back, to back to Mike Leach. The blame game can be easy to do and when players say something in the heat of the moment it's on them but as best you can. Describe where Is Mike Leach and all this other than obviously the head coach And like I said there were you know obviously with the a bit of a all I wouldn't say altercation 'cause I. I can't promise if anything was physical or I think it was just verbal after the Kentucky game. But anytime, you've got a you know two sides of a verbal argument oftentimes, you know that does not always going to be a solution and always going to be a consensus that the two parties come to that will allow you know a a hell. This is a healthy working relationship. You Know Colin Hill has to be willing to do what his coaching staff says and on the Flip Side of that the coaching staff has to be willing to coach a guy like kyle entail and I think their relationship just kind of turned sour and you know. You mentioned Mike Leach. We him literally used the word malcontents after I think that was I. Think I was the Kentucky Game. I'd have to go back and look. But so it everything kind of lines up and for him to say that there are some malcontents that we might need to get out of the program and we have to have guys. Want to do it our way, and he said we do have some of those guys but there are at least the handful that do not and just the way everything's lining up and transfers to what's happening with pilot. Hill I think it's pretty easy to to point out the malcontents. Tolerant. Don't want to be too reactionary, but it doesn't sound like things are going very well. What's the? Mood of the fans right now in relation to Mike. Leach. Early early in his tenure. And reactionary. His is what a fan is going to be all the time. Right. But they they kinda feel like this Irish ship is sinking now does that mean the the pirate ship is can't be patched and and can't push forward? No, we said this is only year one but I kind of look at it as a bunch of pirate ships and if year one is a pirate ship then yeah I think this thing's going down and It's not. Looking up by any means, they have to put Mississippi state has number two Alabama this week and through A. Five Games of a ten game SEO, only schedule with. Georgia on the back half and and a bunch of teams that Mississippi State's not going to be savored against. Yeah. This things going down I think the fans sense that it's kind of a sense of. What can we do to just kind of say facing your one and not make it a total disaster regroup get some of Mike Leach zone recruits in here and try to go out and Mcginn in your to because. we talked about that LSU NBA in one, and then later you snap your fingers and all the sudden you're one and three, and you're coming out of a Bi Week and playing arguably the best team in the country. I don't know if there's any way this season you know maybe be by beating all mess there in the in the last couple of weeks of the, you can kinda save a little facebook right now it's looking pretty eerie for Michael. State. Yeah, dreary I'm not sure even. Even even a good description I mean, it looks terrible as far as support for him. I know everybody was all in You've got a very respected president. There and Mark Keenum John Cone made this call after supporting. Moorhead and then changing his mind. Any anything from anyone on Mike Leach, because it looks pretty bad from afar. It's actually been pretty quiet and. I kind of expected to be that way especially from the brass because. Like we said, it's only been a month. So You Know Joe Joe more had had a little rocky month in his second much. Of his first seasons and he's still got a whole nother season after that so. I I don't think there's going to be too many fireworks. No matter what happens this year but no college coach life spans are getting shorter and if it looks like the Mike, Leach thing just isn't gonNA work out. You know in the middle of next year, conversations are going to start being had because You know there's some people and you ask me how to fans are feeling. You can hop on twitter and see multiple of them describing this as a train wreck rope we wanted to go back to that shift analogy shipwreck. It kind of feels that way so far just with. anytime you rack up losses the way Mississippi state hasn't players are leaving the program. Now you're star running back who you thought was going to. Be The all purpose leader in yards in the SEC is not gonNA play another down for you There's just one thing after the other. So yeah, the conversations will be had if this is a sign of what's to come. Tire always great with your time. Thank you. Thank you very much. Tower Horford joining us from. The Clarion Ledger in the great beat reporters out there in the SEC will take a break that is a grim situation I. Mean I knew from afar pretty bad when you lose your face, your best player but. Keep your and that story..
South Carolina vs. LSU Football Preview
"Certainly one of the most eagerly anticipated games of the day tomorrow night in Baton Rouge between South Carolina and Lsu. Castaneda joining us from down there Quin. Thank you very very much. Appreciate the time, and it looks like a weather. Is An issue for what's going on down there right now? Well, just for the moment I'm across the street Tiger Stadium's to my left in their facility straight across the street I'm about to record up and advancer for tomorrow and had a little lightening. got. Dark severe winds and pouring but you can see the nicer weather up on the horizon. So things should be back to normal about ten minutes. We'll good because. That is a place that doesn't need Louisiana does not need any more bad weather. Quinn let's talk a little bit before we get to the game just about your job this year it's different I'm sure. A lot of zoom calls a lot of unusual situations caused by the pandemic. How would you describe the the obvious difference between this and every other year you've been on the sidelines for ESPN and ABC. Well, it's taken a lot of the fun out of it taken a lot of the things that I enjoyed get on campus to meet with the coaches to talk to the strength coaches just to get a vibe for how that team's doing and you learn so much whether it's Roman down the hallway and talking to a tight ends coach or bumping into a recruiting intern about video, they just paint so so that. Part of my investigation is is far less exciting. This year there's no social aspects in terms of our TV crew, our TV team so it's just zooms and when I'm on the road I'm the only one here are our broadcast crew will will broadcast this from Bristol. I'm the only one here. So I kind of treat this like I'm a spy, I don't touch anything I talked to strangers and I couldn't. quit. There's always a challenge on the sidelines especially. When there is weather but is it any or how different is it i? Guess I'm trying to ask dealing with the crew. Fifteen hundred miles away or maybe longer or farther right upstairs nothing you can see them but you at least know that they were seeing the same thing you're seeing. Yeah there's a little bit of a time delay in the audio so it can be anywhere from two seconds four seconds. So I've been on a crew with Jason Bonetti and Rod Gilmore. The last couple years Mike spent hot the whole game this year I've changed crews almost every week, and because we're doing it remotely. They can't have my mic on because we'd be talking over each other. So we do it old school and I'll talk to the producer I talked back and say, Hey, after the third down, play I wanNA talk about upon her coming out for hey, if they make a first down here I want to talk about how they're tight ends doing a great job so. Do it old school and go through the go through the producer in the in the remote truck. In order in order to get on air whereas in the past I could just talk and we were seamless. Clean on the sidelines I mean to say the least there are restrictions what are they and how much do you have to tiptoe around? It's really not bad. I mean we won I. Did a game not they actually made me call the game from the stands in the front row was good seat but I really couldn't get a feel for what was going on on the benches since then they've just widened appalled widen areas it's actually easier now because there's less hangers on, there's less alums, there's less NFL scouts until the sidelines are vacant and it makes my job a lot easier. I also feel pretty secure in that the players and coaches have all been tested recently as recently as Friday or Saturday morning. So I, feel good in that regard So it's actually almost easier less fans less crowds more space. Speaking of testing. How often do you have to be tested? we test once a week it's either an ad home test, and then you mail it in test results come back in about thirty six hours or it's an onsite tasks on a Thursday afternoon then you quarantine. And then Friday, they released you so so far knock on wood six for six negative tests. That would be Kinda. Nerve wracking you show up at a game and you have to sweat it out and you hope you don't get a a Nick Sabin positive. Let's talk about the game because. It's a really interesting game. Let's start with South Carolina just your. As I know you do gather as much information as you can you probably would like to. Be Able to gather more in person but. Your impressions of what you've seen to them and and what you expect. Well they beat Auburn as you know, and they got the three turnovers and converted those in touchdowns. My issue was South Carolina's they're operating an offense with very limited downfield wide receiver threats shy Smith is a natural slot receiver. Colin Hill is is working Mike, Lobos offense efficiently and their offensive line in running backs or carrying the day. Okay. That's with this team is I'm not sure they're ever going to be a high scoring team defensively they're really good corners who can shut you down they add to the box so. I think South Carolina given that Lsu has a freshman quarterback. I'm leaning towards them having some success defensively in this ball game. So I kinda like Carolina's ability to negate lsu with a freshman quarterback but Carolina's physical they're tough. They're not nothing flashy about him and I think big plays are hard for them I. Think they have to manufacture find ways to manufacturer big plays but I think this team is definitely moving in the right direction I. Think they've improved each week. And the other side of that you alluded to the quarterback situation team that has struggled mightily on defense quarterback play has been pretty good I. Know I know it's impossible to gauge because we don't really have a lot of information but. What have you what have you been able to learn about where they are right now? Yet, teach gets the start a freshman Ponchatoula high school. He's gigantic six, six, two, hundred and forty two pounds nets down from to sixty s a big toll righty and you watch his high school tapes just drops in the pocket and he conflict the ball and it goes forty yards without him even trying he seems like he's calm. He's Louisiana product of this dream for him the ADRENALIN will be running. Also expect to see, Max? Johnson. The son of NFL, quarterback Brad Johnson a lefty also tall but more of a dual threat and when you think about calling the game around a freshman quarterback making his first start, you know any kind of run game would be beneficial and to put the quarterback in successful positions. Early in the game, get him hit but but get a couple first downs give him some easy throws and I think that'll be on the mind of lsu going to be a little more conservative game plan I'd. Imagine. You know he's got targets downfield terrace Marshall their running game I thought was anemic Missouri game that was the most disappointing part of the game in my eyes Missouri was without three defensive tackles in that game and Lsu had no running game whatsoever good news for the Tigers to get Ed Ingram back at left guard. But this is an offense through the air with Miles Brennan that's been outstanding. But now you've got a new freshman quarterback. So expectations drop again, I'm seeing a little bit more of a lower scoring game here. In Clinton's you've seen them. The. Biggest used on defense. Would give. Horrible And coach today sentence embarrassing. Alignment. Very, often they're they're moving at a snap making checks that is when the coverage changes on the fly because of emotion because of formation change that has been a dismal day of given up big play after big play against Mississippi State, it was more catching and run the air raid defense was was atrocious quite honestly continued to play man defense got shredded by crossing patterns but I was at the Mizzou game and That game was defined by busts. I mean just blatant bus where I got him. No you got to I got you got him guys wide open touchdown in the running game. Their linebackers are not playing physical. They're not playing north not playing north. They're not getting to the line of scrimmage and engaging blockers to waiting for runners they're missing tackles remember the tyler beatty runs Missouri fiscally untouched broke attack Lens. Gone So. Those are the headlines here new quarterbacks for Lsu and a defense that has had no answers.
Fresh update on "lsu" discussed on The Paul Finebaum Show
"Colin Hill was already the best running back at Mississippi, state and one of the best in the SEC and then he became the face of the program. A couple of months ago was this courageous stand against the flag and now according to reports. He may not play another down for the Mississippi State bulldogs title Horkheimer covers that team for the Clarion Ledger and it's always great to have you on tower good afternoon and. Take us through how we got to this point I even though it has not been confirmed by the by the school there is rampant speculation. The as crazy what can happen in a month? Right pretty much exactly one month ago September twenty, six Cowan house racing down the sideline at lsu scoring a seventy five yard touchdown host Ghana the record breaking win for Mississippi State and a lot of ways, and now he was suspended for the Texas A and M. Game The last game Mississippi State play two weeks ago they had their by week this past week obviously, and it's looking he's not only got not gonna be able to suit up against Alabama but probably not playing in Mississippi it's five games after that and like you said, you've seen the reports that he's going to opt out and I had some. Off The record conversations with some people that Kinda, make his future look pretty bleak in Maroon and white uniform for sure and you gotta remember this is a guy that after last season, it was pretty much a foregone conclusion that he might just say you know I'm I'm done in college I'm going to skip my senior season and see what my future looks like in the NFL but Mike Leach came in and he was promised a whole bunch of receptions and he was going to get some tape that he didn't have the NFL draft maybe even boost his drafts that as well. You're not going to boost your draft status if you're not playing and right now it looks like he is not playing. Let me pause on on on for a second tower because you mentioned Mike Leach, he had an. Off Season. Met A couple of comments. That created quite a furor he apologized. He. I I don't know what his status was. He was often difficult to find, but still he comes on. And does what Michael Leach is great at doing winning big game creating fuhrer becoming the talk of the SEC and since then. It has been a disaster. What happened? Yeah, we talk about the Lsu win looking like a long time ago but you mentioned Mike Leach coming in and doing some things that he probably shouldn't have. That was still this calendar year way back in March when just doing what Mike Leach does tweeting out means, and if anyone's a college football fan. Didn't have just be an SEC fan you. You could have been You could have been an sec fan with him being in the PAC twelve, you know that Mike Leach is. Often online off and on twitter and tweeting what a lot of people deemed to be funny things. But when you tweet a noose in the state of Mississippi in any context it's going to get. Taken and run with and every which direction, and that's what happened and you never want the. Director who hired you to have to make a statement on your behalf to months into your tenure? Saying this is something our head coach shouldn't have done. We know it very offensive to a lot of people in this state given the the racial history in this state and like I said that's two months into his tenure so that Kinda got you know like. I said, it feels like a long time ago because so much has happened since then but you kind of mentioned. That's what you get with Mike Leach you get the ups and downs you get the win at Lsu and you're on top of the mountain but then you get three losses in a row you get we haven't even talked to talk about. The the the transfer portal with derek trader looked like the future of Mississippi State at quarterback last year not even going to be on the team next year he's played his last game and A. Sippy state uniform and just today two more players albeit not guys like Erick, trader who were who could be seen as the future of the program but they entered the transfer portal today and third string quarterback, jalen maiden, and a second year offensive lineman in Nick pen-li. So your comment like I said, you're getting the ups and the downs with the Mike Leach air on four only. Four Games into it. So I mean it's gotta be an indicator of what's going to happen no matter. How long has tenure is still So Tyler, we're back to kyle and hill. What happened I mean where did it go? Go wrong. So I, mentioned the off the record conversations that had and I can't tell too much into those. But it was after the Kentucky game which would have been Mississippi States second straight. Loss in which the offense didn't look anything like what kind of hell was promised or anyone was promised and There was a bit of a blow out and we'll leave it at that. Kylie Hill had some remarks for some people in the locker room and probably some things that he shouldn't have said and that that leads to the Texas A&M suspension but. it kind of boiled over beyond that obviously, and like I said with Kyle and this is a guy who a lot of people did not even think would be in college football right now or at all twenty twenty and. it's probably a young man who? realized that he probably could have made that decision but there was so much optimism swirling around Mike Leach, coming in here and the Mississippi State Program in general and what it could look like offensively especially with the guy, like you said, who was caught on top of the world when it comes to see see running backs last year, and now it's Kinda face planted and It truly looks like from what I've heard. His days at Mississippi State are over and. Subsequently, probably his college days I don't see him entering the portal when he's all the lifespan of a running back a short and he was already an NFL prospect before this. So.
After Playing In Dallas Area, COVID-19 Outbreak Causes Florida Gators To Suspend All Football Activities
"Florida gators paused all football activities after a corona virus outbreak there nineteen people within the Franchisee Organization the program have tested positive over the last several days. They got a huge game coming up with Lsu. We will talk to Jimbo Fisher this morning at eight ten. Eastern he is the head coach of Texas a and M. They just played Florida. So if you want to think about where their tests might be contact tracing, all of that stuff will talk to the aggies head coach about what it was like to play Florida. GATORS. "The the thought is well, if if they could finish nine and one and I think that's asking a lot making in the playoff. Is Funny About. Three calls this week asked me that question. So I'M GONNA turn it around you brought it up. Let's take a look at at the aggies right now and what's left I mean they've already faced a number one team in the country they face a top five team in Florida. They were number four th time Arkansas this week at South Carolina mystery team at Tennessee and other enigma Ole miss which finds new ways to lose every week Lsu, which could be dangerous in Auburn which which is always a unpredictable difficult at home. So of those remaining games. Who would concern you the most? Probably Lsu. Auburn. Arkansas in has always had close games with Arkansas teams at weren't as good as this one I think with an you look at it and they may even be favored. in every game I don't know but I think he's a look at 'em and say you know they're they're good enough. to beat every team on their schedule, but they're not good enough to take any win for granted. So You know they always have close games against South Carolina. So I think that they're good enough to. Feel like they have a shot at ninety one but realistically, you're asking a team with. Very little margin for error to run the table and and you know maybe the feeling will be different a couple of weeks. If they beat Arkansas they beat South Carolina. But. I think if you look at it right now again, you're asking a team that that's pretty good but not dominant to You know to run the table and and I just think that's asking a lot right now. The fact is even being discussed. Maybe asking a lot considering five weeks ago we were watching the vanderbilt game going is going to win a game this year. Yeah That's true but I think when you look at the Just the way things were this year with you know all the Coleville and everything and and the way things are interrupted An didn't play well, obviously the first game our Georgia didn't play well, didn't star willing one. So there's been a lot of crazy things happened this year I am actually played pretty well against Alabama considering against it didn't played very well, it gets to Florida and and I thought played well against the Mississippi state could have been better. But they always have trouble in Starkville. So to get out of there with a win was know definitely a sign of progress. So Yeah. It did look bleak after the interview game. You wonder you know 'cause. Am had been looking forward to this season for a long time till like this is a year, the key they could be contenders, and in the way they started you know you started to doubt that. but they've rebounded nicely. Owen. I know it's a narrative going in, and then it changed and there were a number of opt out but. You know what is the reason why? Heke fans are just raging now with optimism. Well. I think it's because. You know you have the two best teams on on your schedule behind you? you got that win over Florida and you feel like if you beat Florida. You beat anybody and it's a young team you know if you look at Eight roster in starting lap you'll see a few freshmen lot of sophomores and the feeling is that they haven't played their best football yet. they the pass rush kind of. finally surfaced in the Mississippi state game they had six AXA, they spillers running the ball extremely well they've had some injuries at the receiver that's a concern but the offensive line is played really well, and you know on has showed. what he's capable of I think if he can avoid. that that game with you know where he's he has he's been. Had A tendency to turn the ball over. But if you have that massive a game massive turnovers and again, I, think they feel like they can go into any to every game left with not just a good chance to win. But a lot of they probably should win doesn't mean they will. Should. Only before you go I, want to talk about this game this weekend because I mean I've watched I watch it every year I mean basically just tune in for the fourth quarter because that's That's when it's. It always seems to Go at the aggies way Arkansas has a great shot and it comes up short or something bizarre happens but. We know the history of these schools being in the in the South West but. This game really seems bitter on the Arkansas side. Is it the same way on the on the Aggie side? Sherlock beat. Arkansas. There's no doubt about that. There is some history. That if you have. Want to beat the most since they don't play Texas in one of the police say Lsu. But Arkansas still high on the list. And You know I think it's it's a they recruit the same players just I-. You know it's very common now, but you know going back historically they always a lot of players from Texas go to go to Arkansas So I think that You know border schools and things like that. It's it's. Some, history I. I think. I think it means more to Arkansas right now because they'd lose it. I can tell you when when the roles were reversed in a Lo- whole lot. Takes An. You don't own the game. I think. probably is the better team probably should win if they can take care of the ball we've all seen what Arkansas has done with the What is ten interceptions three pick sixes they had nine interceptions and there to win. So am can avoid the turnovers I think they should be able to run well on Arkansas, but to ask him to avoid the turnovers, gets Arkansas is a pretty big ask because one of the reasons those games are so close and go into the fourth quarter. It's been an ems Tennessee to turn the ball over. So Orbis Keith field goes and things like that. So I. You I see the line and it's like eleven, points or something like that. But I expected to be closed like it always is like I said. I've seen worse Arkansas teams really giving him a hard time I think understand it.
Vanderbilt-Missouri is the first SEC game postponed due to COVID-19
"We welcome you back. Our is live and underway busy busy I our. Thirty minutes ago we learned that the first SEC game has been postponed of this twenty twenty campaign it will be. Rescheduled Vanderbilt Missouri scheduled for this Saturday in Columbia. Now, be December twelfth. We'll talk to coach drink in thirty minutes and get his reaction to that. So here we go more phone calls in a minute a lot of fans unhappy from every aspect of the winners and losers speaking of the latter. Let's talk about the Lsu Tigers two weeks ago Scott Rabble a came on. Wasn't ready to hit the panic button. Everything was calm. Scott's gotcha very scopes. Scott Seen It all before. Scott. Have you seen anything quite like the ending of Saturday's game? Good afternoon how are you? and got to the NFL Yeah that's that's you mentioned I'm kind of reminded of the and it's not a good time Lsu that ninety nine, Game Alabama when just food he tried to run the ball down like. John elway. Pin Wheeled in the air came up a yard short and and they you know they they threw the ball and the they did it. They didn't score. So yeah, it was. It was reminds me of you not good times for Lsu but you know. I gotta say the way lsu played Saturday. On defense but also on offense failing to convert a third down there really is kind of justice. They didn't really deserve to win that game I, mean they they you know they pulled it out and they would've pulled it out there. It would have been a win that covered up a lot of a lot of issues. So what? I don't know if it's safe to go outside I. Mean I know I know the version fortunately escaped the worst of the storm the other day was farther to the West but I mean what? What what is the buzz in your town especially both Pallini and and I mean three games in he seems like he's on the tip of everyone's tongue is it fair? Oh. Sure? Yeah. Absolutely. I mean this is the this is the defense that You know this change Dave Randall left defensor longtime defensive coordinator WHO's hard under? Les. Miles. You know the several years ago he left me the head coach at Baylor. So they had to hire someone like forced out or anything. So hopefully knew who was here under miles and those first three great years in the Mouse Oh, five Oh, six Oh, seven the end up with a national championship and you know just it hasn't worked at me. This questions is Bo behind the Times is not adjusted to those are some great defensive back then with Clinton Dorsey and Tyson Jackson and and you know you're a great players like that got a little on Landry secondary great players like that, and you kind of wonder you know the Adjusting but. It's just been Y- coaches you're on himself is trying to put it all on him and the coaches and they got a coach better. You said that, Saturday, after the game you set it on his press conference today, they just lost followed. They're they're good players on the Stevens, their high NFL draft pick on the defense Derek Stanley Jacoby Stevens to real cox the transfer for. North. Dakota. State people said he might have been a first round draft pick. Had He come? Out and said of transferring Ali Gay Defensive End they lost a lot of great players, but this shouldn't be this bad and aurons You know famously said, then the all season, the defense look better in practice than at any time last year, and obviously that is not the case and they gave up eight plays a twenty yards of more. Missouri averaged almost nine yards per play and five and a half yards per carry it and it just that's just not. That's just not winning football and worst of all they all she just looked. I saw gene gene Chizik said after the game. So you. Look, like on Defense Soft and lost, and Lsu looks like both unfortunately for them. By, the way everything you just got through saying you could replicate for three or four other SEC schools except none of them are the defending champions like Lsu. Scott we're three games in I. Mean we all know that and I'm not sure how much you can value. A. Win Over Vanderbilt Right now considering the state of that program. But as you look ahead I, mean you don't look any farther than this weekend against Florida. LSU will need to score seventy points to keep up with them. Immediate? Looks. That way and I'm not a betting Guy Pa, my government I think I've looked at the over maybe go for that Florida's defense looks pretty challenge to Alabama wins and gives up forty eight points to stole miss. But the the disturbing serving big frail issue. Yeah. Everyone's having trouble defensively No question. Do you wonder if that lack of spring football or the proper time to prepare in the off season has hurt them But you know you look at that once you give six, hundred, twenty, three guys and the Mississippi State, history has been dreadful offense against Arkansas and Kentucky the last two weeks Missouri scored like I think three touchdowns combined the first Games averaging like fifteen points a game against Alabama Tennessee and it just go wild lsu just look great. I mean that's that's the part. That's that's extra disturbing prelates pans and like the lsu fans always. Always wanted this offense obviously, they complained for years and rightly. So by the the plotting less miles offense, but there's a lot of pride in the school, the the the the billy cannon is the star up in you know and and now Joe Borough and players like that. But the tried is always been the defense, the Chinese bandits, Tommy Tests Inova Win Dorsey Laurent Landry mentioned, Patrick, Peterson, Taran Taran Matthew, and what else he doesn't play Great Defense I. Think this is this is like a core value of lsu's program that is not being being held a lived up to, and it's it's very troubling Tila lsu probably would take a little less offense for some better defensive as. Scott Realistically I mean this weekend looks like a long shot I would have to say I mean still Alabama. Out There Auburn out there. South, Carolina am I mean everyone knows the schedule? I mean before the season some might be hard to win them all but maybe maybe eight or nine. Where's the sliding scale right now? Ball I don't know it's sliding really. Really. Bad way down the hill. You know a lot of hills here in Baton Rouge but he found it. It's sledding Hill that way. Down Victory Hill Yes for the team marches down normally before the Games by Tigers stadium is not vitriol right now I I like everybody else said like the six games else who's GonNa win and four games where the season's going to be decided Alabama Auburn Florida and Texas a&M, and right now I don't think he can after South Carolina just banning by the same score Lsu did Arkansas has played. She's gotTa go to they'll South Carolina, comes here in in two weeks I don't I don't think. There's any Sherwin left for L. Share on the schedule I don't think they're gonNA go one nine but I think right now you just gotTa. Look at what can you do to have a have a winning season they're still good players There's on this team in town they lost a lot from last year obviously, but you know the they've got to. Change, the things coach today coach talk today about simplifying both offense and defense. Again remember the offense was Owen on third down Saturday that's a pretty bad step to although this court forty-one points should have been enough to win, but it's still some really great players on the House Brennan. Has Not Been, Joe Borough, been very good. You know he's had over three hundred yards passing game over four hundred yards Saturday tariffs, marshalls been tremendous hit two, hundred, thirty, five, yard service and three touchdowns Saturday. So this, this isn't good players in the team, but they just got to get tougher and and find a way to grind out a win somewhere and and this is not entirely similar fall I gotta say from twenty. Dissimilar from twenty seventeen she lost at home Detroit and went to Florida the next week and they won the game I'm not saying I'm not predicting she win. But this have the size, a lot of field of that when they kind of looked tougher and more determined and they found a way to win and they've never looked back games on order on, they're gonna be hard pressed to avoid doing that obviously late this week. He had I wouldn't call it a charm to existence because now that you mentioned the troy game and there had been some ups and downs but certainly coming off the best year ever how is he handling the defeats? A He's he's trying to take a lot of the blame on himself and deflected from his team Not exactly deflecting from the assistant coaches said, he's talked about, hey, on defensive we just have one coverage and one one formation. Let's do that. Let's and you said. Some things on offense too. I think he's kind of talking about Scott Lenihan, the new guy, a passing game coordinator WHO and Red Zone specialists who take the place of Joe Brady who who was on the staff last year and of course talking about Botha? Lenient? Coach, and he said something telling today I thought that you said, you know the most Ryan. The defense but he he's he's going to you know be checked in on every formation every plan that they use you know as a defensive line coach that's his forte he he's going to be I think maybe a little more hands on with the formations they use and the and the and the coverages, and but some of that are doing well, he's Got Thrown out I think that. This is the defense he wanted this is he talking about being wardrobe four three and they've got a great. Turn of Russia there plus six turnover ratio they're doing very well at that the they're causing some some big plays in that in that regard and turnovers just can't get off the field and can't Can't stop people and giving up a big big yards on the ground, and then these these huge places. The elected eight plays a twenty yards or more Saturday and gets very, which is

"Info you need listen right now on the SIRIUSXM APP or online at Siriusxm Dot com slash listen ESPN U.. We welcome you back and it is great to have all of you all of you here we were listening to. Dan Mullen during the break talk about the protocols getting back. What's going on down there after two weeks gone Alan Taylor joining us now from the athletic our good to have you back on the program always enjoyed the conversation so. Man You've been busy lately. Take us. Take us up to today and what's it like down there. You go back like two weeks that Texas A and M trip and. They got two games will a few guys tested positive and then a few more on Monday and then? two weeks ago today the shutdown papa activity they think somebody got on the plane you know with sniffles and didn't report. That's probably the source of that outbreak Most of those guys which I think got up to twenty five positives from that initial cluster in most of those guys based on the ten day rule. Are GonNa be back right and the ones who were exposed but did not test positive would have a fourteen day way to make sure you know the the virus w show up there also close to being back if it's not back now since then it added six more positives over the weekend. Those guys obviously just they're not GONNA be ready for Missouri. This week however you know most that initial should be. So now you've got the LSU game push back the end of the season got Missouri postponed the week and so after really almost. Two weeks of of non-activity the gators were back at practice yesterday and they were. Planning to practice today with certainly diminish roster, but it should be enough. As currently projected to get to the SEC's fifty three player minimum and meet those position group thresholds for offensive lineman defense of Linemen and quarterback. Alan I realized there's only so much. You know being limited. More so than usual but is there any way to gauge what? But this team's GonNa look like Saturday. Amal and plays the close of the pass under the normal. What's normal circumstances? Is One reason why guys and t shirts on the field pre-game they'll have to. Identify numbers on the desert. So you know making the other tasks work. So so he's not giving anything away and I've talked to people inside the football building. You know they're worried about a couple of spots Guys you know that our contributors who are not going to be playing Saturday So it it, it's GonNa be a scaleback group Know. How how much that affects the offense versus defense and what they can do you know I'm sure there's going to be. Some diminished play call. There have to do things a little more straight up and it makes the game quite frequently frankly rather if fans didn't look forward to you before the season will now it looks like a pretty intriguing game in the series better than anyone expected and Florida certainly not at full strength. And right around the corner from this game is the A. Game against Georgia and I know this is a there's always a tendency to look ahead because there's usually the time to look ahead this week but just described what the turn is going to be like from this game. To next week and then. You know the schedule gets a little lighter for well, not completely but Arkansas at home add vandy can't get any better stretch than Arkansas Vandy and Kentucky but the end of the season at Tennessee and Lsu these are critical weeks. Would you agree? I don't know Florida can can lose another game and win the East right? I guess you could. You can find the combination where they beat Georgia losing somebody else and and and I would work. But I, think there's a there's a pretty strong feeling that they need to win out to to win the eastern and you're right. Normally there's out by week before George game but all this stuff Creative some shuffling of the schedule and you know Kudos to C. for not you know Not. Leaving Georgia a bye week and taking one away from Florida and all that they shuffling on their end to sort of keep those games are at least that preparation time equitable But but definitely, I mean, you look at this game two years ago and Missouri came in there. And, it was after the Georgia game and I felt like that loss at Georgia. sort of beat the gators tries Missouri, would you rock smoked and like a swamp? Well, this time the gators have it loss at the swamp since that day two years ago to Missouri So also trying to keep that streak going in and set up a really big game in Jacksonville next. Allen let let's talk about a piece that you drop this week for the athletic about social media. So misunderstood it so controversial at times, but you dug pretty deep into how some college football. Programs are using it to their advantage. Had A fun teeth because you find out that just like assistance and. Staffers don't know what they have a new job. When a new coach convinced we'll somebody's rabbits people. Don't. Like coach Vincent at Arkansas, he's a football only. Social media graphic design got. Chad Morrison fired last year. He's he's sort of sitting around waiting to meet coach Pittman and wondering if he has a job. Does Not only do they have a job He has a coaching Pittman who trust him to to do some fun things, social media and they work with Athletic Department and that's why we have Fantin wearing an eye patch and brandishing swore about today you know knocked off Mike Leach in week two. I guess if you lose twenty straight SEC games deserve to have a little fun on the official twitter. Town and that's one of the things that you know. I don't know ten twelve years ago yet coaches trying to tell players to stay off the social media, and now you've got You know official football accounts for sort of embracing it and having some fun because it's all about fan engagement anti you look at what they did with the Leech spoof and then suddenly Thomas the tank engine derailing after they beat the Lane Train they even put that the Little Sham while mask on Thomas the tank to to bring home the link and part of that. It even got linking the tweet back of them. You know good job the creative about it. So they're they're having.

Fresh update on "lsu" discussed on The Paul Finebaum Show
"Again for the gators. Pretty amazing couple of weeks Remember that. They went out. Austa Dan Mullen. Talked about filling the swap, not draining the swamp. That's Washington DC phrase. And unfortunately after that everything seemed to go wrong they announced football activities would be paused the game against lsu postponed. Game Too. Was Missouri moved. Back Mullen test positive. Everything back to semi normal. Thirty seven total positive tests six coming in the last week. So it has been. A roller coaster ride for them. Meanwhile, Remember when Colin Hill was the face of the sport. He was the cover of SL he was the man who saved Mississippi. And now. He may be gone. That is according to reports. He's unavailable. That's all we know from coach. Leach. What could it mean? Could mean. It can mean a lot. He's only the best player on the team. He's the best known player on the team. He's highly respected revered by almost everyone. Except perhaps Goetschl each we don't know that, but apparently something has gone wrong and we've heard rumors out of Starkville for a couple of days now on a disconnect, and we hope we hope to get some more information on that as we work our way through the program. Meanwhile in Wisconsin things are not good. Grammar. Who's the backup quarterback? By the way he was considered to be one of the best quarterbacks coming into this year he had a phenomenal game, the other night against Illinois, he's gone for at least three weeks that's new covid policies of. The. Big Ten. So he will miss twenty one days that will include. The Michigan game in a couple of a couple of weeks. So that is really a an amazing we diff-. Difficult break I mentioned Kirby smart among the guests and he will join us here in a couple of minutes. Let's get to. Also we'll talk a Carlos says. One of the great players in Florida history an sec storied on him tonight written Burg later on will give us some information. And we are going to get your phone calls right now at eight, five, five, two, four, two, seven to eight, five. What's new it and start. With Larry. In Virginia Larry. Hi Paul thanks for taking my call Paul. I have two questions number one at.
KJ Costello makes SEC history as Mississippi State upsets LSU

LSU faces unique challenges this season
"When you look at Lsu spots. I mean they've lost fifteen starters from lessees and Joe Borough first overall pick quarterback gone to March as their star wide out opted out he's gone the offensive and defensive coordinators are both gone having taken other jobs and just last week at ordure on said that most of the team had tested positive for covid and have apparently since recovered, not all herbal most of our players of it. So I think that hopefully, they don't catch it again and open enough a game. I just want to know when you watch Eddie order on on the sideline this season. Like what do you think you're gonna see what kind of Lsu experience are you going to get? It's going to be I think a rebuilding year that LSU'S GONNA be able to tolerate because one I. Don't think that they're going to backtrack entirely from a lot of the changes that made them. So successful last year Joe. quickfire chase has across the Middle Brits attack with the forty five baby gets to the far sideline twenty, fifty, ten high cut style taggers. College football is very in a lot of ways more scheme dependent. I think than even pro ball because everybody needs a relatively simple system that they can pick up pretty quickly and use interchangeable talent on. However this is my favorite thing when you go okay well, how many how much talent did they lose and I'm like, what did you see cloud Edwards the layer do for the chiefs he's reckon business town. Touchstone. Chance City what a night for the rookie clad layer upgrade. And you go. Oh, man where he was he was a Lsu and you go. Okay. Well, look the bengals almost one which is like a victory for any other team. And who was behind that? Well, Joe Borough as rookie turns out dude's pretty good for a time. Downfield Kat at the to by US. And he runs into the end zone for burroughs first NFL touchdown. You Go. Well that came from somewhere. Didn't it? Oh Yeah. It came from Lsu second be a step down. Yeah. It's absolutely going to be a step down. That is the best Lsu team that has ever played in Baton Rouge with their best quarterback and what I what I believe was their best running back and I don't think you're going to get anything close to that. However even if we come down a standard deviation, you still want me talking to nine or ten thirteen. You're just not going to get that kind of excelsior performance. You're just gonNA fall to like. acceptably excellent and probably lose to Alabama.
Literal Jock Sniffer - Season 3, Episode 4 - burst 1
"Question. How did he do? Okay. So here's the thing about Joe Brown. This is why I think you like him so much. Oh, it's a really great quarterback that just plays hockey team. So he's like your deck Prescott your a bitch. I thought you were like the light bulb in my head went off last night when I was watching it. I was like, well, he's a good little quarterback like Dak Prescott. He just plays for no wonder Jasmine likes them so much. By the way, I have you know you Optimus Prime Don the word shity so it cut out on you said shity team. That's all right. I show you going to say that we were going to like look we could be an item now. I'm just disappointed. Oh, I'm sorry. Now he's to you guys wouldn't match very well. He's back to blonde hair doughy eyed, you know, he still has his dreams and happiness. I was just that his way too innocent for you. You know, you just strip him of all of it off. I would fare. I tend to do this with all men though. Let's be real I tend to slowly take away their hopes dreams, you know their desk for Life their happiness any kind of happiness life. It's it's what I do to all the men that are in my life. Okay, so so that's your analysis which fuck off so that's no that's my analysis regards to jobber. Okay, my analysis in regards to the Browns. All right. Here's the thing about the Browns obj less. Always he had headlines Amy. Okay. This team has a boss ass offense page. There is no reason why they shouldn't be scoring touchdowns all the fucking time. I mean think about the players that they have Nick Chubb Fremont who both went off last night Jarvis Landry. I mean you couldn't get you can get that is a fantasy leagues dream right here, right? Yep. There is no reason why this team shouldn't be amazing because you know what their defense is really cool. Good to this team should be really competitive and making the playoffs and they're not understand now Grandma, who knows what's going to happen tell you what happened last night watching this game Baker Mayfield just he changed into a different person. Like when he like a human in a good way in a good way when he came off the field. He didn't go and sit down on the bench. He stood on the sidelines and watched his defense playing and then he I mean he rallied those guys. He was not going down to Joe burrow. I mean, you could totally he's like, there's no fucking way. This guy's going to show me up and there's no way I'm losing to the fucking bangles and you know what he totally carried his team. He really truly did stepped up it was offensive. Now if they can do that every single weekend this team is really like it has all the weapons that it takes to be a fantastic team which made me. Made me Ponder the fact that there's some teams that you just expect to lose and then there's some teams that you expect to win like the team's you expect to when you expect the steel real attacks right now. You expect the Cal you expect to win. You don't expect the Lions or the Bangles or the Browns. I mean the low-hanging fruit, you know, you don't expect those teams to win. So when they have when they have rosters long, the Browns have their own turning into a team that you they should be winning with what they have. So it sounds to me that the Browns are basically like if you're looking at it from a fantasy league point, it's the guy in league who basically cheese his way to get the best team because everybody else is internet either sucked or they were on auto draft or they forgot there was a draft right? That's the guy in the if you're equating it to a fantasy team roster birth. Okay. Number one. I liked it. You know I prematurely said shut up about the Cowboys cuz I thought you were going to say that you expect them to lose and I like that you're saying that you expect them to win because that's what you do you absolutely suck. Oh you that's what we do problem. That's where we are a we are an elite Lord team. Anyway, that's what you're going with I am. Well, I don't know the baker Mayfield is still a shitstain to me so good for him rallying his team. He's still a shitstain. I do love his Progressive commercials their home like the latest one. Yes. They are the latest one where he's like. Oh, it's getting ready to rain. Help me cover the furniture. And two guys like you mean the stance he's really good in those commercials. If you could only be as good a quarter as he is in those commercials. We would be set the dog pound would be set. Well, we are you a dog pound or now. I mean, I you know, I have a soft spot for the Browns just cuz they always lose. And ever since that movie came out draft day with Kevin Costner yet. Oh, I'm out. I'm done with you. done with you Amy. Your brown spot is showing. I know I know you know, I just I'm weird that way I don't understand it. Either it is I don't either try to figure you out every day and I just you know, I do too and since I'm like, oh I get myself today and then sometimes I'm like now he's nope don't understand myself today, but that's okay. That's most of us as well. Amy. So rest assured you're not in Company by yourself. I think it is twenty-twenty it is. Okay. Well that's sad because now Joe burrow Hollow be his name Falls 200 and two. Yeah, it does and but you know what this guy he's he's a good quarterback. He is is there he should be in his helmet I think time to get mr. Guys. Sometimes he tries to carry his offense which isn't great because then he gets pummeled by pencil like he got pummeled last night several times. Well, you sure. Why does LSU brain sure what he's trying to win? And I totally get it. But at the same time he needs careful because you know, oh, he's a starting quarterback in the NFL. Well getting them know and you just see a lot of what he was doing at LSU that worked and I think you know like every rookie has this learning curve right where you come out transition from college to the big leagues and it's like, oh, okay, it's funny cuz I was like really different style of football right? I said to Bruce last night. I'm like, surprised that they just threw this guy in the deep end. I mean they just started. Oh totally, I mean, they didn't granted he dangles. What else do they have? I'm. That's the problem. They don't have anything else but you know like places in my where to get backing up Fitzpatrick that makes sense. It makes sense for him to kind of, you know way into the NFL same thing with Dwayne Haskins, you know, he he was back up for a while until he kind of learned his name. Yeah, now Joe girl, man. They just threw him in the deep and they're like here you go, bro, you go bu. Yeah. Well, you know what gotta he is trying I mean, he's playing his ass off out there. No he is but he is and that's why I'm like super team Joe burrow like we gotta do this man. Like I'm telling you. It's the stogie. We'll do it get this guy that mean that you're a Bengals fan know how fucking no. No, I like. Oh bji in a Browns fan. I like Joe burrow Ina Bengals fan, you know, I will always bleed silver and blue Amy. That's the only color I would leave home. Anyway, let's move on to the Chiefs. Okay, love us and Pat Mahomes you love some Andy Reid do that cheaper mofo back, right? So Andy Reid's big old windshield mask that he had on. When was it last week? I can't remember. Yeah. We're only in week to segregated windshield wipers. Yeah, so people were like what the hell and so like it was fogging up. You couldn't see shit, but this may be a thing. This may be a thing coming to a coach near you because off on the first Sunday of the NFL season when this happened several coaches were seen either one not wearing masks or to not wearing them properly because the mask police were out and the league is not going to stand for that. It's currently vice president of football operations. Troy Vincent issued a memo this week saying protocol requires all individuals with bench area access including coaches and members of the club medical staff to wear face coverings at all times failure to adhere this requirement will result in accountability measures being imposed against offending individuals and or clubs. However, Amy, there is no word on what those accountability measures will be so that to me that phrase is what kind of sticks out to me. What does that mean? do you do find them? Probably I mean you can look dead. Here's the thing. They're coaching on the sidelines of talking into Mike's they have to be able bird they have to be able understood. It's really hard for all of the to happen on your face plus all these guys are around each other all the time. They're all you know, I practiced together around the field. They're hitting each other all in each other's faces, you know, I mean and how many people have tested positive since the start of season one? Yeah. They did a very good 2700 players so very good job with with that right off because like you said, they've been implementing measures. They've been following the rules, you know, they've been testing a lot, you know, we got into this, you know leading into this actual season. Jeez, how many coronavirus updates that we talked about on this podcast about hey, this is what the League's doing. This is what they're making them do kind of thing. So something is clearly working. It's really great to see that that's positive news that you know that they're only seeing that wage. Chat, I think I that they should I really think they should go with a handy read mask to be quite honest can still see the coaches face. The microphone can kind of be up underneath it. So they may be able to understand what the coaches saying and and you're shielded. You know, when somebody comes up to your face, you know, I mean, think that that's fine but having to wear them like when it's just, you know covering your face in your nose again, like it's hard for me to understand people when they're wearing a mask and talking to me. Yes, I mean, so imagine imagine being on the field the quarterback coaches saying the guys in booth coordinators up in the booth are trying to understand what the guys on the field coordinators on the field are trying to say, I mean, it's just it's a it's crazy. So it's a shitshow you gotta be able to walk. You gotta be able to your job. I would take that looking like I've got the windshield of a Camry in front of my face the whole time vs Lee having something on my mouth cuz that's frustrating me. Yeah. Give me the telephone number. Windshield all day long over the you know, suffocating face masks which by the way speaking of Tesla. Did you see that their reports of some them being janky like getting like parts that were like really cheap shity on some of the Tesla's that were falling apart marvelous. I know so yet twenty-twenty doesn't happen. Just wanted to put that in there for you. All right coming up next in offsides, you know fall like we said is upon us. Although you wouldn't know here in Texas. It's still like an anus outside but here's something for your home that will make it fall feel less anus e okay Mom handles some new ones that are coming out and they're actually already out and we'll explain to you with those candles our next. All right, let's get into offsides and we've got some candles to tell you about so Amy, yeah, you know football's back. So if you want to get a little piece so that game day experience at home along with fall. This might work. Okay. I know you love candles. There's a company that's owned by Anheuser-Busch call Babe wine. They just created three football scented candles one smells like an artificial turf field. Okay one smells like a Nachos not bad and one
The story of Trevor Lawrence's life-changing summer
"So we just discussed how Trevor Lawrence is influence has been growing this off season I taking on issues of public health and racial inequality. But last month. The very thing that gives Trevor Lawrence his enormous Megaphone College football was put in jeopardy as players in conferences. Having. These discussions about canceling the season. What role in those discussions did Trevor Lawrence play. It was a Sunday night early August enduring. Trevor. Together again. There at travers fiancee's apartment and rumours are starting to pick up steam that some of the biggest most powerful conferences in college football the Big Ten PAC twelve that they're seriously considering, postponing their fall season, and this is coming at the end of a week. When of PAC twelve players have released a statement on the Players Tribune using the Hashtag we are united. And they've threatened to out fall CAM even opt out of games unless the conference mixed their demands for fair treatment and safety regulations and less the conference addresses concerns over racial justice, and meanwhile on a nearly parallel track, you have players the cost, the country, trevor, and fluted tweeting the Hashtag. We want to wait to express their desire to keep the seasonal live. So, in the Sunday night when it feels like college ball is teetering, it's actually dairying who decides to reach out to Dylan bowls. One of the players the Pactel's we are United Movement because endearing mine Houston gain. If we all join together the players in the we are united movement and the players in the we want to play movement that would be undeniably powerful for players who don't have concrete power who don't have a real seat at the table at least not yet their collective voice with the really hard to ignore because truly. So many of these fires want the same thing they want to play football this fall, they just want to do it in a safe responsible way. Dylan Daring, trevor they get on a three way facetime called a hash all this out to make sure they're all on the same page and that very quickly evolves into a zoom call with a dozen or so some of the biggest names in college football right Justin fields chew behind nausea. Harris And matter of thirty minutes, they agree to roll out a list of demands from this new fused Mecca Movement. It was amazing. How quickly we all got on the same page put something together I feel like the majority was getting spoken for. And we were like, Hey, we WANNA play. We want it to be safe but we do to take a watt mandated and universal safety procedures for Covid nineteen and they want to form players association. And it pretty much the stroke of midnight. These players, Tweeden Unison. But it's trevor naturally whose tweet is hurt the loudest he's re tweeted some fifteen thousand times including one quote tweet from President Donald Trump, and it's just a few days later actually that someone from the White House reaches out to Amanda Lawrence Trevor Lines mom letting her know that the president would like to get in touch with trevor. So hold on. So he has the president of the United States listening to him. Now let alone all of his peers across college football. What was that conversation with Donald Trump? Like? You know I would have loved to be a fly on whatever wall in whichever room that phone call took place the president has said really that trevor just reiterated his desire to play this season but trevor for his part hasn't divulged too much about that phone call. Conversation it was good I mean we just talked about kind of the whole we talked about that. We WanNA play like how's it going? How's it looking for the season and? president trump was just saying, yeah, I think our country needs college football and. then. Some small talk. Yes. We a little bit about what was going on in my life and vice versa. So that was pretty much the conversation though trevor is twenty years old the president of the United States wanted to speak to him. That is remarkable crazy. No matter which way you cut it. So. Let's recap here Halley Grossman because since March Trevor, Lawrence Age Twenty has faced pressure to help mitigate a global pandemic fight racism save the College football season display a level of political savvy and or gamesmanship that is obviously well beyond his years. So what else can you possibly be asked to do at this point? I mean look putting your stamp of approval which he's done on a list of demands that includes creating players. Association is a big deal. That's a radical way to reimagined that amateurism model that governs. College football right now but I think what this summer has shown is that trevor doesn't plan to quiet down you just a few days ago a whole lot of guys that original zoom call we talked about reconvened because they revealing again from a police shooting of a black man again, and so in the days after Jacob, Blake was shot. Trevor and Darien and Dylan, and a whole host of others talked once again to hammer out ways to help to draw attention to the issue and hopefully bring change. Trevor Lawrence football season is starting tomorrow and if all goes according to plan. He's GonNa win the heisman before becoming the first overall pick in next year's NFL draft teams have been salivating over his talent. There have been rumors that teams might even want to tank for Trevor Lawrence this season. So the question really that is, why is he even putting himself out there like this? Why even play the season? I mean that is the question, right? We have seen plenty a high profile opt-outs this season jomar chase at Lsu. Mike Parsons at Penn State today. Oregon. These are first round top ten NFL draft guys but no one literally nobody has less to lose by not playing the twenty twenty football season than Trevor Lawrence. are in a player having a job borough like. Or I don't know an asteroid hitting the earth, his Cossacks to go number one overall are safe, and at the same time, no one has less to gain by paddling the status quo or shaking up the current system than trevor does this system works just fine for him? He is a young white man. He's a young white quarterback, and so I asked Amanda, his mother that seems washing. Why? Why do all this? I put himself out there and she said something interesting she said look. there. are players out there who do need to even if trevor doesn't and there are people out there for whom the status quo and the current system don't work even if it works for him and he understands that now probably better than he ever has and he just wants to help. That's really it know told me one of his goals for the senior only meeting because he wanted everyone to understand that unless everyone is good no one is good and trevor, his best friend took that to heart. Of the day, there's so much division in our country. Just word of some people that WanNa see people together, WanNa see people love each other and I think that's where a lot of the things I do. It stems from that just wanted to see people happy together not divided. With all this pressure now from all of these different places in our country. Landing Atop. Trevor Lawrence's shoulders. What are you personally expect from him when the season starts? Because of the ways in which Trevor Lawrence has stepped onto center stage this summer it's almost easy to forget what it is. That gives him that stage in the first place, he is extremely good at his job. Term Lawrence is an excellent quarterback. Making predictions in two, thousand, twenty, hundred, probably a fools errand. But tomorrow, there's football comes we'll pay wake forest, and if clemson continues to play if they and the ACC and the big twelve and sec are able to play a full season, don't be surprised to see Trevor Lawrence back on the national championship stage. Don't be surprised to see Trevor Lifting the national championship trophy and along the way don't be surprised to see trevor continuing to speak out and perhaps that's one of the safest predictions you can make in twenty twenty. Life to be reflection of what I say and what I believe I've been thinking about everything that's going on and I think there has been some some moments where I had to say some things because it's just the right thing to do and it's time really is just how I live my life I want it to reflect what I say. "GONNA have that with in the comments with the transcript of the show. So what the heck are you doing over there? Well. You know this this idea started because I when we talk, what am I doing? Oh Yeah I'm collecting aid of things that have ripening, which is this is the perfect time to keep your eye out for seeds especially of ornamental plants that you want to come back next year and I know you've got an abundance of Angelica goes. So those biennial, the plants that. They're so themselves right now or we can collect seeds and scattered them where we can collect seeds and start them indoors in the winter. But the time to catch those seeds before they drift away and You know like the JELICA I can't grow GIG US we've talked about that but I can grow Arc Anjelica and Atro- Perea you ever seen that one with purple stems so beautiful. And Paki carpet sorry he's talking Latin folks already we haven't even gotten. A bit Anjelica attr- appropriate is the purple stemmed Angelica, but I made that name up. so So yes and so some of those. Those Angelica are biennial Lsu, said, what are some of the other things when you look around that? You have in the garden that you would be targeting because you said you, you don't do well with that with the anjelica guess that I grow. That's kind of got those big wine colored. On bowls flowers at this time following that are followed a beautiful purplish green bud. The other ones do quite well for me and they're forming their basal rosettes kind of flat growth which next year just like a lettuce plant will bolt, they'll shoot up their flower spike sometimes with an Argon Jelica. Seven or eight feet tall got some moisture. Right, and and that's what you said when you said. Basal, Rosettes. One of the important things, and this is maybe we'll get to this later but. Know, how to recognize these babies because if they saw themselves or if you some of them outside, you don't WanNa destroyed accidentally later you know anyway. Yeah. So so sometimes takes a little homework looking things up and I always love when websites show or reference books show the seedling the babies as well as the grownup plant anyway. Okay. We'll get to that later we'll digital and. I don't have so much luck with. The Regular Fox glove that everybody loves for some reason I think this is all due to my sandy soil the one little more moisture. The other digital us like Vera Guinnea is that the one lend lend Tanai think is one and Ludia, which is this little plant plant's not that little bit of flowers. The Spike is covered with these creamy yellow little flowers, but it's covered with them and that's self sows or you can collect the seed or you can sprinkle the seed where you'd like it to grow and it's not a big thug just. Usually, one plant will drop a seed and or lots, and then you'll get one flanagan. I do so ver, bask them. I

Vanderbilt adds games against LSU, Mississippi State to 2020 football schedule
"About Mississippi State we showed you. Are traveling to Georgia. We showed you that on Georgia schedule they have haven't home game at added to their schedule obviously, and that will be vanderbilt. So it's vanderbilt making their way to start to face Mike Leach in his first year at Mississippi State. I imagine the Mississippi State folks for happy about seeing vanderbilt no disrespect to the commodores but I think there's worse opponents that they could have drawn particularly in Mike Leach's first year not having the benefit of having a spring practice or off season conditioning program. This gives kind of the opposite ends of the Eastern Division, Standings at least from last year and see I want to remind people to as you're watching this keep this in mind you don't see dates. No. The dates are not out at this particular point. In fact, the dates that you thought you knew erase them they are gone. There will be new schedule with new dates to
SEC to play 10-game, conference-only football schedule in 2020
"The SEC, making it official, they will begin the season on September twenty six they will play in conference games every school will likely add. Their next to rotation school. So let's We can take a look at what that means. In terms of everyone's opponent. Alabama will add I. Believe. This is correct. Again, this is not a well, let me check the official announcement and may be in there but they they will add Florida and Vanderbilt. Okay It is not in their correct. Okay. This this is speculation. Let me make it clear. This is not the. But we're speculating Alabama will add game at Florida and Vanderbilt Arkansas at. And a trip to South Carolina Auburn will home game against South Carolina, road game at Mizzou, Lsu, UK, and Tennessee Mississippi State Vanderbilt in. Uga. Tentative Ole Miss Tennessee in UK. Missouri and Florida. On the other side Florida adding Alabama and am, will you talk about some major till two if we get that for Arkansas and Mississippi State on Georgia's schedule? That's a significant break Kentucky. LSU and Mississippi. Missouri an Auburn. South. Carolina Auburn in Arkansas Tennessee, Mississippi state and Lsu and excuse me. Mississippi. And LSU and. Much. Sure. That game is I think that game could be a Knoxville lane kiffin in. KNOXVILLE. Again as a head co as first time as a head coach and other than Tennessee and Tennessee Lsu and. Vanderbilt Mississippi State Alabama. So again, the official announcement is out, we will talk to the commissioner in a few minutes. This. I'll just read you the commissioner's comments, and again, we will talk to him shortly after careful consideration of the public health indicators in our region. Following advice of our medical advisers we have determined that this is the best course of

What worked for you? What didn't work about you and how I fade? You'RE GONNA commander. This stronger than you did going into it, which is not the case for everybody, so be great to get some insight into that the obsolete. It's been a fina testing challenge. Challenge in time I think the everybody globally in offset it on a couple of our podcasts. It's almost that I think that's helped us all little bit that everybody's in the same boat you know. I think is been a there's been a connection that people have made through this pandemic and I always a big believer. The adversity says a lot you know, says a lot about tennis. Pledges says a lot about people I have to admit I had a brilliant. Brilliant team over the last few weeks you know. I sometimes get some of the praise for the initiatives, but there's a law. Grad people behind me that doing the work and work and extremely hard, while so feel very fortunate and feel feel very connected to my team and brought us closer together, and you know like like you said I. Hope a law because things will come out of this as well.
Ed Orgeron is “almost certain” LSU will play
"Say hello to you on a Monday afternoon. We are marching through the. Month of July, we reached the twentieth day, and by this time in a week or two. Hopefully we'll have some good news or some news whatsoever about where we're going. If Eddo Sharana was in charge of college football, we wouldn't be having all these conversations. We would be getting ready for the season media. Days would be today perhaps, and it always will be telling us what to do. Well, that's what he thinks. And that's what he hoax and over the weekend with Mardi McGee he had this to say. This about my decision, the my gut feeling is gonNA play where we're preparing to play. I don't want my person like any other way. L. Coaches are thinking another way whether we start September a little bit later I don't know that for sure. Whether we play incomes outcome outburst. Whatever that happens I don't. That doesn't bother me. I. I do believe we're GONNA play. Certain that we are going to play I and you guys will agree with this. Sees, football. say Louisiana. These football pop culture needs football time to get.
Moussa Cisse is going to Memphis
"See say five star prospect originally in the class two thousand twenty one, but now I'm class. Two Thousand Twenty announced this afternoon that he is committed to the University of Memphis. Pippen Hardaway's Tigers over offers from Georgetown Georgia. Florida State Lsu and Kentucky for those unfamiliar. I guess you can on some level. Call him a quote local product because he did spend the past year at Lausanne collegiate school, which is seven miles from the Memphis. MEMPHIS campus, but he's not really a local product. He was born in West. Africa moved to New York, in two thousand, fifteen played at Saint Benedict's prep in New Jersey played at Christ King in New York, then relocated a Memphis, the plate laws and this past season led the links to a state title, one Mr Basketball and the state of Tennessee average eighteen point, four points, fifteen point, three rebounds, and a ridiculous nine point two blocks per game, and now we have college basketball season. He says he'll play for the Memphis Tigers. norlander break it down. What do you make a penny? Hardaway lending a five star center in two straight recruiting classes last time. It was James Wiseman this time Mussa. Break it down Oh. Yeah, here's what I got a question for you I. Mean Here's here's was Gary Perez? Is tweet on Wednesday afternoon breaking all caps course. This was an all caps breaking the way I don't i. You know what expected to go to Memphis. I. Don't know if all caps was warranted there. Can you take me inside the thought process versus not in a? Regular grammar versus going all caps in that moment, please. Young Mussa say follows exactly ten people on twitter. I am one of them, and so I wanted to make sure he he saw how much emphasis I put on his commitment. How do I just know that two four six years from now if and when Lucy say is? Able to earn a consistent NBA paycheck, and perhaps it's even a player of of importance in the NBA. Gary Parrish will never ever ever forget or forget to remind people that there was one point in time and Mussa CCA followed ten people on twitter. And he was one of them. I honestly don't even understand it. Because like he used to follow a lot of people on twitter, I noticed and. One of them was not me, and then suddenly he cut almost everybody, but added me I don't really even know the connection there, but. I want I knew he'd see the tweet. And once I knew each the tweet I wanted to I wanted him to experience in all. Caps tweet obviously as as faithful podcast, listeners will know. Also one Moussa, see say. was tutored by your own son so I think. That might also be an influence. Parish working behind the scenes to get it done for Memphis. You've gotta admire actually ironically enough this happening in a week where parish is not on his local radio show. The conspiracy only strengthens. Okay, so here's what here's my question for you. you say the six eleven likely one and done talent averaged. Eighteen point four points, fifteen point, three rebounds and nine point two blocks last season pick memphis over Georgetown. Tom Kriens Georgia bulldogs Kentucky and Lsu. My question is. Who the hell is this guy planning? Nine point two blocks a game what? I have not I have. It's private school basketball in the state of Tennessee so? Took it over people who look like my oldest son in some cases like the blogging. What after another like I don't know I never been to a laws and basketball game and I've never even actually met. Say although it is true, my son and Mussa. Were classmates in my son to tutor him in in certain classes I. I don't even know if say knows that. My son is his classmate. He might, but I don't know that I've never I've never even had a real conversation about Mussa with my son. Other than so, what kind of young man is he and was like really nice? Really Really Nice guy like you know doesn't walk around like some big time. Basketball player I the only other times. I would talk to myself about Moses. Like Hey, did you see that dunk? That was on instagram last night or something like that? Because like fans are crazy, and at one point, the two schools involved in the Memphis in. RECRUITMENT MOST HEAVILY WE'RE MEMPHIS IN KENTUCKY and I'm like it doesn't matter what happens I. will somebody connected to one of those fan? Bases will blame me for it if HE GOES TO MEMPHIS, Kentucky fans it'd be because I pushed into Memphis somehow through my son, and if he goes to Kentucky Memphis fans, it'd be like see parish eight says all the modern salads like I'm not even getting involved. The only time my son had ever been asked about Mussa as recruitment. That I witnessed was one of my friends recently asked him when they were over at the house, and my son's answer was he always talked about? Georgetown but I don't think he's going to go to Georgetown and that was the extent of it. So he was right. Maybe my son's got a future and being a recruiting analyst, right?
Pence urges school reopening in Louisiana amid virus surge
"President Mike. Pence traveled to Louisiana's capital. A Baton Rouge on Tuesday continuing White House push to reopen schools in the fall fence acknowledged the alarming surge of new corona virus cases across the sunbelt. Still he said officials have the needed tools to safely reopen classrooms to people of Louisiana and this team. Have what you need when. When you need it and we're GONNA. Stay with you every step of the way. The vice president heard there at Louisiana State University where he met with lawmakers, college officials and governor John Bel Edwards Edwards. Crat praised pence's response to the pandemic in his date. He has been paying attention close attention to the state Louisiana from the very beginning of of this emergency. He has communicated with me frequently and his team. He runs the White House of our task. Force has been extremely responsive. To the state of Louisiana but Louisiana is not throwing open classroom doors this fall instead his state is taking a measured approach to restarting schools allowing local systems to determine whether to resume classes on site. Some districts are planning in person instruction others, preferring online distance learning, and some districts of announced a hybrid approach at Lsu some students will be able to attend classes on campus, though many other courses will be held online.
Veteran quarterback Andy Dalton signs 1-year deal with Dallas Cowboys
"That a lot of people when we saw the signing of Andy Dalton to the Dallas Cowboys the first reaction was wait what yeah that that happened and so then you go through the process okay Andy Dalton's been a starter for a long time in Cincinnati obviously they drafted Joe burrow number one overall in the draft out of LSU so clearly he is going to be their future so Andy Dalton is signing with the Dallas Cowboys will war would be signed with the Dallas Cowboys what's the meaning there because any don't miss played very well at times he's been into the post season but there is the the offer out there to dak Prescott they're trying to work out a deal and there's a lot of things you can sort of surmised from that if you want but sometimes the map is the math and the numbers are the numbers and I thought that Edward you said this on on Sunday morning on ESPN radio basically summed it up best if you just look at what the two contract offers are it should tell you a lot
"lsu" Discussed on The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz
"With us on ESPN radio who wins that game the XFL team inside game. I mean Joe. Borough would be the best quarterback on the field but the other players and particularly the lions would be. Why else would loose? Wow Okay I I don't agree with you. Aerial Halawani though might have a differing opinion. What are your thoughts here Aerial Hawaii on whether or not Joe Boroughs? LSU team record breaking unprecedented precedent at Lsu team would beat the best the best XFL team. Before I answer this important question I just want to say I don't appreciate the catch up shaming that I've received from your audience over the past five or so days it's irresponsible it's not fair to Stanford I'm proud of WHO I am Andy in any event the team but I just WanNa say there's a caveat to the answer it's the two thousand one version of the XFL team the two thousand twenty version are very subpar talking about the Orlando rage. I'm talking about Las Vegas outlaws. The New York New Jersey Heaven Two thousand one johnny-come-latelies stuff but we're talking twenty twenty. It's but let's take a look at the two thousand one one version the XFL much better play highly technical stuff all. Thank you for more than I was expecting that. We're looking for short answer. I was kind of hoping hoping to keep the moving. I keep the Sagar get Outta here. So that's aerial. How long are Ma expert which she come from? Why shaam bag and on back? I'm back to convince you that the NFL's important and the XFL Matt. It matters stabbed. Because I've been standing by seething as you have pooh-poohed this league accusing us all of corporate toadies for enjoying football. God forbid but it also matters and for reasons that I think are pertinent to your bleeding heart. Okay which is you. Talk About Joe Borough and how he'd perform against XFL teams the XFL could be a viable landing spot for college quarterbacks. There's already a Saint Saint Louis Battle Hawk a former all big twelve safety Kenny Robinson who was dismissed from college and is playing in the XFL making money. This is a real option. quarterbacks in this league make hundreds of thousands of dollars so we could see the next Trevor Lawrence. There will never see the next Trevor Lawrence their jet you're on ESPN radio. Give me better analysis than that. Jed Okay there is no way that the XFL team could be Lsu. I mean the the the defense is they're just not good enough now the offense with tear them up. It's as simple as that. It is as simple as that new gods that it wasn't called Jed Jed. What do you can't even watch the exit of I feel like half the people were coming in here and just creaming? This leak. Haven't even wash including Dan on. It's actually pretty good people but Joe Borough would shred that defense. Sure you're on. ESPN radio instead of me. What do you have Joshua what's going don't dvr every XFL game? And I have watched them repeatedly and I'm telling you the XFL teams would just utterly the Lsu team not even close. It wouldn't be fair. That was good man Tom. He knows what he's talking about. Jason you're on. ESPN CBS radio. Jason go ahead. What's up guys so the battle hawks can fly over? Lsu Tigers so obviously they would beat the tiger agars because the Tigers can't jump up and get. I'm sorry Jason I gotTa Get rid of you. We've got field. Yates breaking in from his. Get her out of here field. Yates now coming from his honeymoon. What do you have for us feel bad but spending most of my honeymoon thinking about who would win this matchup between Lsu and the top XFL team very very much the entirety my trip so far LSU landslide? You kidding me. Tigers ridiculous to to tell her no field have you been watching. XFL On your honeymoon. Honest I'll probably wrong. Thank you guys back down. I just scared at the MENAS. XFL yipping just barking at people making them not and not give us the truth. Pablo Tori of high noon ex every Pablo fell against Lsu who wins best XFL team so the XFL is in. Christ I mean one of the things that you need to realize that the excess values at the act like does that still Stanford Stream. What does extreme about this as as football? What are they even doing to me? When you really think about what a minor league supposed to be? Yeah the X.. What does that even supposed to? They're taking the label from an old thing putting it on a new thing so to act. LSU can be the next F. L. Team I guess so because none of the XFL teams are actually XFL all teams. What's extreme about any of these teams? None of them even qualify for the League that they plan this is. This is bothersome conversation because nobody often tell me what it stands for. Here's the thing Pablo can you name an XFL player. WHO's not a quarterback? Oh yeah there's there's Adam Outta here. Pablo took.
"lsu" Discussed on Comeback Szn
"Who carries a bunch of fucking fake cash around with them? Odell Beckham if you tell me. He's carrying twenty thousand dollars cash or fake cash on him right now. which which one are you going to believe? Odell Beckham is New Orleans. He's carrying a ton of cash worth. It doesn't know where to get fake cash either like you think. That Ode L. Beckham is walking around rounding. Like where can I find cash. By the way he handed it to Justin Jefferson who's probably going to declare for the draft and we'll do a lot of guys well. Yeah just Jefferson's the one that went super viral like I. I took that as like he was like fuck you. NC Double A.. I'm just going to give these guys money. The fact that they're trying to say it's fake. Money is a slam. She was taking the wrong. The wrong approach here. They're out there trying. I don't say it was fake money. That's bullshit you know it's bullshit I know it's bullshit. What they should be saying is? Yeah in the locker room the players gave it back. It was a fun thing to do on the field. Yada Yada what's the NCAA Housing and Sierra going to approve. They didn't so that's what they should be saying. It shouldn't be saying fake money. You know it wasn't fake money. I know it wasn't fake money. I also know that the players didn't give it back. That's more believable to me if you can locker room and Lsu says you'll lose your ability you need to give it back. I can believe that. Yeah I can't believe they were given fake cash. Okay Yeah I guess this is degrees of what I could believe. Odell Beckham Junior finding anywhere that has faked cash and then getting that much of it and carrying it around during the National Championship. Benjamin is by far the least believable angle. I do love that. Odell Beckham Junior was finally able to get the attention. He so desperately deserves 'cause he walked onto that field any where the cameras were. He never made a big enough differences. Lsu To win a championship himself so he was able to find the players that were able to deliver that and potentially just take a big shit over that all over that just to get himself some attention but you know what though I bet the players loved it. That's the thing when you look at. Does that mean I understand would probably a lot of things. That aren't good in the long run. Well no but I'm saying like you know it's easy for us to sit up here and be like Oh that guy needed attention but like if you go to Lsu and you see one of the not telling me that the players love somebody walking up and giving them five hundred dollars. I'm talking cruiser. No no no. I'm not talking about that. I'm talking about just the attention. That Odell Beckham gets gets in the way he is. He's so flashy he obviously is a big name in the NFL. Like I would assume most players at any team would like a superstar. NFL player coming back and partying with them them. And then also the extra not fake cash raised. They'll just handing out money like an recruiting weekend. You sneak that in you know. I've got several more by by the way I've gotten to talk a lot about cheating in college football connected to this whole baseball scandal and I know it's apples to oranges with college and Professional Sports. But I've gotten a really working on on the radio. Some semi takes on college cheating. I've decided that people in on twitter and on social media that don't think colleges cheat might be my least favorite sector of twitter. There is there exist a A large percentage of college football fans on twitter that are just that are just mother fucking idiots and usually I'm just going to type cast here. They're going to be a mom between the age of forty and fifty five. Or maybe a DAB between the age of forty and fifty five that believe in the sanctity of good old university. And we're classy and nobody else's clancy and Blah Blah Blah. Even if they didn't win out still all support him because he's such a good young man you you wouldn't piss on the young man. If he was on fire he if he stopped in front of your house. You'd lock the fucking door and you are the worst. The person on twitter a college football fan. That just doesn't get shit. Sorry my bad no. It's okay I actually kind of agree with you. You actually kind of agree with you because I I do agree a lot. I agree with everything you said. It is really tough for me so I mean obviously we all liked like dunk on people on social media. Sometimes I do it too much whatever. It's very hard for me. Eight to dunk on. I do it anyways because it depending on how bad the tweet is but on a twitter avatar where it's like it could be my grandmother like GRANDPA. Fine don't give a shit like whatever but if it's a woman who looks like she's between my mom's age and my grandmother's age it's her comment has to be really bad towards me. GAUL's football we also deal with We deal with a fan. That's hard to dunk onto when a fan says something that is totally vowel about a player our about us and you WanNa dot com on you. Want to kill him and it's a picture of their fucking kid. Well that's usually the people that are hiding behind that that it exists a lot in college football world. Oh yeah or it's like their family. They have a Bible verse in their profile like just being completed and go to hell. Es Suck on a Dick or something. I don't know I got in that fight with that one Baylor other fan so casey we're also going to discuss. LSU being the best team ever investing over. I don't know I do know one thing that does qualify as the best ever the best. It's Mac and cheese of all time but he is food to make of all time the richest food of all time creepiest cheesiest. I think we're talking about same thing. VELVEETA shells and cheese. Yes yes yes. We're GONNA talk about if Lsu's the best team ever you can kinda decipher between is it. Talent wise is it the season wise there is no complaint. I don't know what word I was like. No denying there is no denying belva shells and cheese is the unanimous champion when it comes to the best Mac and cheese fulltime. It works for my kids. It works for my wife works for me. It is easy it is delicious it is quick it is perfect and you only need that one box and then you just kind of add a little hottest. Have you added the hot sauce. I am not how that's all sky. I I love cheese by itself. But you're GONNA have whatever you want. It's still just by itself. Don't get me wrong but if you want a little spice to it like you want that Ritchie and spice aloe hot sauce and while you're doing the body dances you know. I don't know maybe like a salsa dance shells and cheese makes this woman dance best team ever no no. I've I've seen this going around on. Twitter lies not. LSU's not the best talent wise or it's just not the best team. This is not the best team. People are confusing two different things. That's what I'm asking you what we're not confusing here on necessary. Roughness for people. I started saying this a month ago. LSU finishes this run what they got in front of them. This will be the best season ever beat five eleven when teams beat five. AP Top ten teams in the final AP top ten B seven top ten teams overall. It's the greatest season of accomplishment. We've ever seen it's not the best team ever because there have been teams in college football history that are better pound for pound than this team. This team had a couple of games that were they were tested. Had A couple of games for their defense just gave up way too many points and showed way too many weaknesses. They fixed that towards the end of the year and got better but there are teams on this in these grades of All Times Times listed. Didn't have those hiccups There are teams on this list. That didn't give up thirty eight Vanderbilt Thirty Eight to Sam Alan Jara in Texas sailing. Excuse me and Texas so great team. I think the best season ever put together. I there are there. Are you just got to recognize the difference. In the season they put together and the quality of team. They are like two thousand one. Miami does Miami team. That's the gold standard. They had seventeen first round draft picks. Seventeen that that's the greatest team in my opinion in college football history just off the top of my head just in my lifetime. I can't go back to the sixties. I could go back and look at numbers. But I'm not going back to the sixties or fifties of the forties and taking some of those teams but in my lifetime. I would say two thousand one. Miami is the gold standard Couple of Alabama teams at two thousand Eleven Alabama team that even lost in the regular season but ended up winning In the superdome beating Lsu. I thought those two teams were incredible. Lsu Lsu Alabama that year. But I would say that Obama team's all time team nineteen ninety-two Alabama is the greatest college defense ever. They were great and two thousand four. USC See who didn't really get tested because they were giving a gift by playing Oklahoma and the BCS championship game when they should have played auburn known. How good they really were instead? like Lsu this year they. We're giving the gift of a Shitty. Oklahoma team somehow always gets bio name value. Even though they suck. I would've said I think the Miami team. That's definitely the gold standard. I do think that and I I use is this phrase a lot but it is the truth. That's recently bias when you look at these teams but it also does have a lot to do with the amount of exposure these teams get and social media has so so much to play with that because like you're an encyclopedia brain. You can remember every single detail of every single college football season and the nineteen ninety-two team like I was four jacker even born yet. So it's like those types of things but I don't think that this Lsu team is the most talented team like you said. I would have probably taken a those early Miami teams but as far as the best team ever. It's an easier argument to make for a lot of people because they could see every single second of it. Yes I'm surprised he didn't say twenty. Thirteen Florida stay. I don't know why you'd be surprised that they they twin every player that started on that team ended up in the very talented. They just didn't leave. First of all James Coming back in two thousand fourteen and and then them getting beaten the playoff for some reason just colors at two thousand thirteen team. It makes remember. I watched that team walked off. The field is a loser the next year ear. And that's somehow sullies their name but I will say that. The the game with Auburn Auburn team wasn't good as far as a national championship goes I mean. They were a bad add team to reach the championship and floors date needed every second of that game to beat them. I I wouldn't consider Florida state two thousand thirteen in all time team very good team. National Champion Brim. That puts them way up there but I I don't consider him a national. You know an all time team. I all that team and I know we talked about this whatever episode. It was a while back when I was like. Oh what team has been the most disappointing in this decade. That whole run that for two statehouse Jameis Winston feels like it was twenty years ago..

"Know I. I don't particularly have a great memory for that stuff. It's hard to remember but also about the life span of running backs in the NFL. This is the showcase position or our weather showcase position in the sport. And you know the careers are so so ephemeral. The guys were superstars. Seem unstoppable. It just takes so little time for them to fade from the scene and you you know one of the guys I do remember is Frank Gore. Who actually is still in the league piling up yards at an advanced age for running back but there are other guys who seem like they've just been gone forever? Like Eddie Lacy Justin for set Lamar Miller. I haven't thought about that guy in a in a long time and so it's it was a it was a quiz. They made me sad stephan some quiz do that. I'm busy not really listening to you. And I'm typing the names of a pro sports teams that have the same first and last name better her. I'm not done but I got Chicago Cubs Buffalo Bills New York Knicks Tennessee Titans. LA LAKERS. Boston bruins Miami. Marlins do they count Washington Wizards. This is the Florida Marlins. Or is it the Miami Marlins. Now I've lost. Its Miami as Miami. Thank you Washington Wizards Philadelphia Phillies Philadelphia Flyers Cleveland Cavaliers. And that's where I stopped. Stop Typing to talk to you Pittsburgh pirates so you think that New York Knicks Philadelphia Flyers Star with the same. The nickname start with the same letter. Well that was my question in. Does it have to be letter or is it sound letter. It should be sound New York next. We're talking about alliteration. We're not talking about Pittsburgh Penguins. I don't the quizzes but I think it makes sense. Maybe maybe that's off. Take them off of my list. See if I care all right. Are you in the listeners. Ready to hear the fullest. I can't believe I'm taking the flyers off I mean they should have just spelled p. h. l. y. e. R. S.. All right here we go. You got a lot. That was impressive. You did a good job ignoring doing what I was saying. All right the answers are in baseball. Philadelphia phillies Miami. MARLINS CHICAGO CUBS Pittsburgh. Pirates and Anaheim. Manhandles the handles come on. They're really Los Angeles. Angels of Anaheim does that count in the NBA..

"From Lsu with a degree in petroleum engineering though is Very common so there are six completed passes says I believe in that game which is kind of a bad drive for Joe Borough also a thing to note about college football back then is it. Lsu won the national championship and the Clemson Seven. Nothing in the sugarbowl. Those things weren't related. They determined the national champion forest and Bowl Games. I was before the bullet totally sensible. The Ball System Link Games. Yeah it was just like a little bonus at the end to. They did it for fun just to so you think you'd get any extra injuries at the end of the year. Just a little little bonus round all right Stephane. What is your Mickey Mangum on twitter? The other day Listener Ryan Caulton back noted noted that bugged on Bogdonovich Utah Jazz scored thirty five points with zero rebounds assists blocks or steals in a game against New Orleans Josh you then reported that the NBA player to rack up more points with nothing in those other positive counting stat. Categories was Alan Houston of the Knicks in two two thousand who had thirty seven points impressive achievement. But let's talk about the totally inept performances player sue enter a game and do nothing. No points snow shots no free throws no fouls turnovers. You might be aware that this achievement is known as a trillion when the box score line shows one minute followed by a string of zeroes the first reference to the trillion. I was able to find a story by Mitch. albom in the Detroit. Free Press of April Eighteenth Nineteen Ninety Wendy album profiled to Pistons. Bench warmers Scott. Hastings and David Greenwood grabbed a sleeping bag. Fill the canteen album wrote we. We are headed for the end of the bench. Each of those last five words was capitalized. It isn't exactly the end of the world. Also capitalized. It's worse. Even even Columbus never looked for the end of the bench. I could do a whole after ball. About how bad the story is. But it's a little bit off point anyway. At one point in the story hastings in Greenwood talked about garbage time hastings recalled that he wants entered a game with twelve point eight seconds left and came out with eleven point. Six seconds left. Yeah I got what we called a trillion. He said a trillion album road yet. Hastings said that's when the box score reads one minute played followed by a row of Zeros. I got lots of those a trillion album road again and didn't follow up at all. Hastings said and or album type nine Zeros which would be a billion billion not a trillion. which as far as I can tell was the case in box scores of the day? Poetic License. Whatever but the rise of big box score led to an actual actual trillion twelve potential zeros field goals made field goals attempted three pointers made? Free throws made offensive rebounds total rebounds assists steals blocks turnovers personal fouls points. There's been even more box score. Creep over the years field goals three pointers and free throws attempted to pointers. Made and attempted. Did plus minus some boxes include minutes and seconds played which really messes up the Zeros aesthetic in any case the basic box score on ESPN NBA dot. com includes fifteen categories in a players control. So the QUADRILLE is the new trillion now a lot of players have recorded multiple trillions trillions in their career Jeb Bush ler of the one thousand nine hundred ninety s bowls had fifty five the former player Mark Titus now a writer and commentator has made sort of a career out of it. I think his twitter handle is club trillion but I wanted to find the most futile individual game performances the biggest trillions in NBA history. Fortunately originally historical searches on basketball reference. Show full minutes. And ignore plus minus they also include separate columns for two point field goals made and attempted that bumps us up to seventeen potential Zeros. which would be a hundred quadrille Ian for one? Minute played play ten minutes though and do nothing and it's a one followed by eighteen. Zeros the Nice Round Quintillo. Ian The QU- intil. Ian Is the new Quadrille Ian all right so now it's time to remember some guys who piled wild up. Zero's the record for minutes played while recording. Just one counting stat. Is Stan McKenzie of the Baltimore Bullets. Who On march eighth? Nineteen sixty eight played played nine hundred nine minutes and accumulated one and only one foul but there were only ten counting stats at the time which works out to a measly one hundred ninety billion and ten in the era our one stat champ is Kevin Gamble of the Celtics who on May Seventeenth nineteen. ninety-one played eighteen minutes and had one foul foul but that is not perfection for all eras. The dubious distinction of most minutes played with nothing at all to show for it in the box. Score that I was able to find belongs to Kenny of the Knicks. Sears was the fourth pick of the nineteen fifty five draft. He twice led the Nixon scoring but not on February fourth nineteen fifty-six fifty six against Syracuse sears. Played fifteen minutes and tallied no stats so fifteen minutes all-time mark but the NBA of nineteen fifty. Six of course didn't have three point shot. It didn't breakout offensive and defensive rebounds. It didn't tally steals blocks or turnovers so sears US fifteen is followed by just ten. Zeros rose a mere one hundred and fifty billion in nineteen seventy six Steve. Kubersky of the Celtics had thirteen minutes of bupkus in eleven categories. A one point three trillion in one thousand. Nine hundred eighty seven Keith. Star of the Bulls went fourteen minutes. Fourteen categories one point. Four Quadrille Ian Allan Level of the rockets. It's did twelve minutes in fifteen categories in one thousand nine hundred one a twelve Quadrille Ryan but still no Quinta Ilian and then I finally found it the high water mark the leader in the clubhouse the gold standard of null sucking void in modern. NBA Box score. History is twelve minutes with seventeen goose sags. A one point two Quin Chilean. It is a three way tie among Kenny. Walker of the Washington Bullets skywalker baby on December Eleventh Nineteen ninety-three Damon Jones of the Cavaliers on June seventh two thousand seven in Game One of the NBA finals. No less. Wow and Rishaad Vaughan of the bucks on January Fifteenth Two Thousand Sixteen. I should note here that the basketball reference box includes a final column called Game Game Score which is a stat created by John Hollinger Walker Jones and von each of course registered a game score of zero point zero which if view include that makes nine thousand nine hundred Zeros so the number to beat is not one point two Quin Chilean..

"But cone again was not arrested or charged and then writers. Dan saw cone as the hero in this case and someone who would overcome something as somebody who had the greatest game of his life when he thought thought he might get arrested and it's played as this kind of Hero's journey for him. It's incredibly disturbing. Yeah so the cone rape allegation happened happened on the last day of the season in Nineteen ninety-one so in October and it was a story that lasted as a news event. It was like a three day story. Maybe it was unfolding exactly at the moment of the Clarence Thomas hearings so you know if you look at the newspaper covers back. Then there'd be like a big thank picture of Anita Hill and then a little box at the bottom. You Know David Cone Accused of rape. That went away almost immediately Philadelphia. Police decided that it was not a credible allegation and they dropped the case. And then as you say yeah cone that became part of the legend because while he was still under investigation you know. There's this this whole story behind the scenes that came out of how you know met's GM frank cash told him it's the last day of the season. Were not in contention. Wanted to just sit this one out and cone said you know no you gotTa let me pitch. And he went out there and he just pitched this like bonkers game. I mean I think it's a one hitter and struck out. Nineteen something like that and then stories were written about. How did you do it? What did you draw? It was like that kind of sports reporting about this thing. It was just totally assumed that this case was indeed totally without merit again. The police did drop brought. That gives an another thing. That's going on here that we should talk about is the way race played into all these stories so You know one might reasonably we ask why David Cohen was accused of rape in October. Nineteen ninety-one and you know. The case was dropped almost immediately by the police. And and then three black players on the mets Dwight. Gooden Vince Coleman and Daryl Boston were accused of rape just a few months later and it was just a massive story and you know taken very very seriously by the police in an investigation that unfolded over a number of weeks. I think that's worth considering to and and yet. The police in both cities ultimately chose not to attempt to prosecute years. Later you report that the Philadelphia Inquirer discovered that multiple accounts of accusations of sexual assault by women were rejected by the Philadelphia. Police Department. Out of hand there was even a nickname for the office. The lying bitches pitches unit. I was stunned when you interview. You did with one of the investigators in Port St Lucie Florida who who all these years later sort of rehashed. These suspicions that he had that ruled out attempting to prosecute the case that amounted wanted to nothing more than the sort of poor conjecture about what he thought may have happened and whether he could trust what she was saying and that seemed very little to do with physical evidence. Yeah he told me that in his opinion what was going on there was Powell had been jilted by David Cone Own. She wanted to make him jealous. She'd picked up. You know gooden and the other guy is at the nightclub and concocted this whole thing kind of to get cones attention. She made Google is at him he told you she made. Google is on him and you know one of the things. I found very striking from that interview. Was You know I mentioned that. This all unfolded on the same night and very close to to wear the William Kennedy Smith incident unfolded and I don't know to me learning learning about that in two thousand nineteen talking about in twenty twenty. I mean that's just speaks to first of all how prevalent these sorts of stories were at that moment that they we're finally coming out but more importantly the underlying issue of how prevalent these incidents might have been. So that's kind of my perspective on it but then talking to this detective detective. who had worked the mets case? He thought that the fact that these two things had happened on the same night was rather damning. was just evidence that you know they were one was a copycat happy cat claim of the other. And what are the chances so it just kind of I think shows how the same piece of information can be interpreted in radically different for ways depending on your priors about women's inclination to lie about such things perhaps Stefan Dan working as journalists back then and we are both fans of of the team and would read coverage and follow them just as kids. Who are interested in baseball? But you were working as a journalist year at the AP not at the time. What did this story kind of call to mind for you about this era about reporters and about sort of societal views about sexual assault in my memory of the case is yeah? I remember the accusations. I don't remember much of it in detail I wasn't I wasn't covering sports at the time but I did read the tabloids when I was living in New York so I don't have a stark recollection other than to put it in the context. Oh yeah all those mets were assholes and this was one more story that likely the in your mind has a high probability of truth and yet it was not being prosecuted. Because that's what often happened with athletes. What's that we overlook their their sins on the field and that our institutions are very bad at following up? And Look Clarence. Thomas was confirmed to the Supreme Court. Right William Kennedy Smith was acquitted. This was part of a pattern of the way our systems our institutions are systems jurisprudence. Didn't also seem to function and I'd be lying if I say I recall thinking like there's an injustice been done here but I probably just didn't pay that close attention to the details of this case and its conclusion and the thing down that really strikes me is that yeah. It reminded me that I was essentially ancient working adult at this time and I don't have a strong sense or song memory of of outrage about what had happened that we were inured to the way that sports and bigger institutions function in cases like these I think one thing that sort of complicates for me certainly looking back and situation complicates. What's the situation and what I think might have been complicated at the time? Was that when the prosecutor declined to press charges. It's not like he came out and said you know this was a false allegation. He came out and said this is an unwinnable case and I think that was a reasonable assessment of the evidence. I mean there were things as they were about this case that would have made it really tricky like the fact that it had taken her a year to come forward the fact that you know there were no other witnesses like. They're these were there. You know there were as a as a rape case it was kind of a stinker you know so I think and you see that in the coverage Ridge at a of the wrap up of this investigation. It's not like the you know. Even the tabloid columnists are saying. You know these mets are innocent. Let's move on. They're saying things things like this is really awful. Who knows? Let's move on. So what what I found. Maybe more outrageous was not the way the legal system handled handled it. Although some of the stuff we talked about with how the detectives investigating the case might felt about our alarming but the way that you know confronted with this tricky situation should wear this was perhaps an unwinnable case certainly in one thousand nine hundred eighty two it might have been an unwinnable case so it was dropped and then everyone just kind of said okay. Let's never think about it again and I don't think it was never think about it again because were all certain individually certain that this thing never happened but rather it's unpleasant you know. Let's play ball. You have to think about the fact. This was also the beginning of the baseball season. So there's for the sports writers at any rate there's like a propulsion to like. Let's put this. You know weird spring training stuff aside and now the games means something so yeah I mean there were those kind of post mortem columns on April Tenth Anthony April eleventh of Nineteen Ninety two and then by opening day. It's not even mentioned. Gooden pitched the home opener at Shea. And it's just like how did he look well He. He was pretty good but he took the no decision. Or whatever so like it just it evaporates. Meanwhile other stuff that had come out in that spring training you know some of these other tabloid stories about the mets acting like jerks or buffoons lived on so for example that same month of March nineteen. ninety-two allegations came out that David Cone had masturbated in front of female fans on two occasions. That story got the full tabloid treatment. There is a famous New York Post Headline Weird Sex Act Bullpen. That's one that I've now just talking about myself as a mets fan. I remember that vividly and when I think back on those teams weird sex act and bullpen is the first thing that comes to mind what I find again this I can only speak for myself but I thought it at the beginning of this project. I was like it's so crazy that I remember the cone masturbation stuff and that happened like two weeks into this massive massive story about the alleged rape and I just I like I one has been wiped from my mind completely. It's not like Cohn ever admitted that he did this quote unquote weird sex act in the bullpen has always said he he didn't do any quote quote unquote weird sex act in the bullpen. So but but for some re- like that was just an easier thing to talk about and you can see it in the in the columnists at the time to they. They were just uncomfortable after bill with this rape story because it was so awful and I think from their perspective who knows but the cone thing like. That's it didn't seem like anyone was really hurt that much. I guess there were no other repercussions on these players. Taken by the mets whereby Major League Baseball. But for Cindy Powell. The woman at the center of the case. This was her life life. How in your reporting Dan? What did you find out about how this affected her and what happened? Her will the experience of coming forward was devastating for her reporters knew who she was ause but her name was never was never published And that is not the case for some of the other people who came forward around this time as I said but she was hounded at at her place of work. She was followed to her appointments with her therapist. It was very very unpleasant And again it. It ended with no charges in the years that followed her friends. Tell me that you know and this is again. There's there's no way to know for sure but this is just what her friend said that she the change that Her life did not go well from then in terms of her mental health and she struggled for quite some time. She had a lot of tragedies unrelated to this in her family the death of her brother of the death of her biological father and then she died by suicide in two thousand twelve. It's impossible Dan. Santa.

"Between crane and now who is really responsible and these incidents and it was if we are going to criticize Manfred it is extremely inconsistent to say that Liu now bears responsibility for everything that everyone under him was doing but the crane bears no responsibility for everything that anyone was doing underneath him. Couldn't have Put it any better and and the farcical the I think the most farcical part of this his that rob Manfred very clearly and explicitly stated. This was a player driven scheme. With the exception of Alex. Cora of course a player driven scheme in which players ended up getting suspended. I mean Ed this this just enlist I understand why no players got not suspended because the easiest route for baseball to punishment into trying to wrap up this very ugly and Sordid added chapter of its history was too disciplined. People quickly and quick disciplined came via this memo that Manfred sent out September fifteenth. Two thousand seventeen and this memo said that if there is illicit use of technology by a team and the general manager and manager will be held responsible responsible and that is exactly happened in this situation. You didn't see anybody else get disciplined. You're probably going to see Alex Cora Because as of his time as manager of the Boston Red Sox and what he did as bench coach of the Houston Astros end up wearing it awfully hard and probably lose his job because that was a bit right and Manfred said in the statement that he gave players immunity in order to testify and Manfred also knew that any punishment of players was gonNA. It'd be litigated by the Union. And he also said he couldn't determine which of them did what and I've been trying to sort of sort through what would be ed more draconian or or more appropriate level of punishment. I mean what what can baseball do what could not rob Manfred. Had done. Sure he could have suspended the owner the way George Steinbrenner was suspended for life and returned a few years later. But what can you do hear stripped the championship. I mean I don't think it's give them extra losses I mean you know you can't do. What soccer dozen Europe like demote the team to the minute you could ban them from signing free agents? You could do that. Maybe you could count fifty million bucks against the luxury tax. I'm not saying they should do that. I'm just saying that's a mechanism that is very common in international soccer right. They think we're Manfred. Had A real problem Jeff. Is that if you go too far. You are indicting your own sport in a way that you're not right now by giving out these suspensions that lead to firings of one general manager and one field manager. Yeah I think that's a that's a very fair and reasonable. Appoint on the balance that Manfred strike the needle that he had the threat. However you WANNA put it? I do think though that the clearest path for him to take to hold everybody including Jim Crane accountable would have been a fine. That was larger than five million dollars that's the most laughable part of this whole thing and I understand that he would be expanding his powers by doing that. But what this does is it. Reinforces the notion. That Rob Manfred is a commissioner who is beholden to the owners that every commissioner in every sport. It's not raw manfred Manfred. Yeah I listen. I know that was what the response was going to be. And that's fair but can you give me another situation or another sport. That has had something like this. This where the commissioner hasn't stepped up and been draconian I mean don't you think Roger Goodell. The case of spy gate in the suspension of Tom Brady was taking draconian measures. And eventually you know it got walked back but at least he endeavoured to do something like that. I think the best analogy here is how David Stern handled Tim. Donaghy situation where he pretended like it wasn't actually a problem where he got up and explain that it was just one guy in elite. Didn't actually have this this problem and he just kind of convinced everybody that the League was was clean at had done everything right and and it was like total bs but everybody bought it because stern was such a wizard at a public relations. And that I think is getting to Stephen's point is is that Manfred wanted to paint. And I think everybody's willing to to buy because staffers are so heated. This was a rogue organization. And I think where I want this conversation ago and I'm interested in both of your takes. It's like this is obviously bad for baseball. Have the story out there but the the actual crime the quote unquote crime even if Manfred cinema or whatever. Everybody is stealing signs. Everybody has stolen signs and baseball baseball since baseball was invented. So even if you think that what. The Astros did was worse than typical science dealing. It's a matter of degree. It's not like they were doing anything being so extraordinarily awful and so I think the reason these yeah. Are you really trying to say. Hey that stealing signs from second base and touching your kneecap to let a hitter no that fast balls coming as equivalent to banging on a trash can to let them know literally every pitch that's coming and not only in a trash can but using the best available technology not the trash Ashdown and and doing it basically your they were exploiting the extension of video video into the game itself that Major League Baseball adopted in two thousand fourteen. I mean they major league. Baseball gave teams approval Russell to put replay rooms ten feet from the dugouts. This was a slippery slope. Manfred deserves to be criticized for not recognizing the potential for exploitation of technology. Here so I do think worse than you weren't the giants tipping every pitch in the nineteen fifty one world series. Yeah they were trying to is this. How is this new? Like it doesn't change my belief about the nature picture of you know whether you call it cheating or I would call a cheetah it doesn't change my view of how teams are cutthroat and are are. We're trying to win. This is not make me disillusioned about the sport or at. You know it's GonNa be punished and it should be punished but this idea that the integrity of the game has been breached and some unprecedented way doesn't carry them water with me. I don't know man. A team like won the world series in a year in which chick was cheating. But I I don't I don't know how much more plain and simple it gets. Then that and I want them to lose the world series though hypocritical..

"Accurate and mobile and is also extremely good at diagnosing. What defenses are doing? It was only a matter of time keeping with the narrative where LSU is not dominant athletic force and if they did have to fight and work to win this it is worth remembering that these are all disparate parts that Lsu. Let's you put together the right if we went back three years ago and said Hey Joe Borough Clyde Edwards healer Dhamar Chase like. Are you going to be able to dominate college. Football with Jessica Jason Jefferson was a two star. LSU beat out Kansas to get your mar chase. Joe Boroughs. Other option was Cincinnati when he was looking at transfer from Ohio state and lost Out to Dennis Haskins Clyde t layer. I mean he did get a scholarship to Lsu but like nobody would have thought that he was on the level of various guys the guy who preceded him at Baton Rouge Catholic in Lsu. So yeah I mean this is all a testament to like the work that Lsu put in and their ability to put people in the right place and we haven't even brought up Joe Brady. They vary youngest systems. They brought in from the New Orleans. Saints who you know kind of revamped their offense and made them into the unit that they are. Today it's really a testament to like I mean I know there's a sound corny but but it's really a testament to the idea of reinvention teamwork in work ethic Because none of this was given and if you go back to you know early September when Lsu was barely edging out Texas at home a Texas team. We later found out. Wasn't all that good and then you go to what we saw last night. Obviously you know a lot of things to come together and LSU's responsible notable for a lot of that and even you know if you do have really amazing players. They have to play well. I mean it's been all thing to say but Trevor Lawrence it's not like that came discredited him in any way. I thought that he made really good plays at various points during the game and he looked really scary. If you were rooting against inst- clemson. But he didn't have a good game. I mean by his admission by Dennis weenies in Michigan. He had all of those overthrows whether it was just because he was a little bit off off whether it was because Lsu was doing something but he just didn't play well and in every game this year and then in the SEC championship game and how Obama game and the semi against Oklahoma and against Clemson job road didn't have a bad game barely had a bad series all year. A and you know he's twenty three years old his fifth year in College. One of those was a redshirt year. He's a grad transfer already graduated from Undergrad. He only takes classes online. He goes to the Facilities Professional Football College.

"Was in the superdome for it in the press box and I was happy confessed. I was raising my fingers. Enjoy so says not to violate the prohibition on cheering in the press box you weren't worthy to people that was cheering for shrunk. When he came into the I heard about that story in the press box but I was very loudly seething but but now but this was the culmination of objectively one of the greatest the seasons in college football history? LSU Had the most points of any team ever in the AP poll era. I believe and this was Clemson. Paul is the best defense in college football this year and Lsu and Joe Bro put up as they've put up all year record passing numbers and that Forty two twenty twenty five win so you are definitely dispassionate. And not fake dispassionate. So what can you tell me and us about Lsu and their victory. I think you know what's a testament to how good Lsu was this season in particularly last night is that there was a point in the third quarter while felt sorry for Clemson which is which is unbelievable. They're on a twenty nine game winning streak. You know they beat Ohio state team. That was as good is any I saw in the country all year right in in late in the third quarter of like. Oh clemson doesn't have it and I mean think about this. Lsu Put up six hundred twenty yards scored forty two points on Clemson. That's still thought they did pretty good. All Things considered which just shows you that. LSU's offense is just totally changed. Like I guess the scale for what we think is possible with offense like it used to be that you could win a game in college football. You know rolling four hundred yards. That was a lot of yards in a game and like they almost had that by like I think like halftime or something like that it just would would just say about this as objectively one of the best teams in college football history. It's hard to think that that's not true looking at the statistics in the way that they play. Because this is almost. Don't even tell the story it's the W- it's like looking at them seeing them. See Joe Berle escaping from pressure throwing it up to Jim Arches in Jefferson borough handing off to cloud Edward C. They're like it's just really difficult to imagine what couldn't offense due to be better than what. Lsu was this year even talked about the defense but they just weren't the most unstoppable applicable force. I've seen in college football history and Clemson just unfortunate league for them ran into a buzzsaw. I don't think there's anything they could have done differently. That would change the outcome. What struck me is that it felt like Lsu had the best offensive players on the field at every position? My Far Clyde Edwards Hilar- was was fun and like Barry Sanders last night. He was ploughing people over Randy. MOSSES chugh didn't even mention scored two or was it three touchdowns I lost count. The wide receiver core seemed to be three inches taller and two steps faster than anyone that Clemson was able to put on them. It it really felt like a a mismatch which is crazy in a championship game against the team that had lost in what two years I mean it feels I like that. In retrospect but the feeling very stressed out partisan you know you have to remember clemson was ahead seventeen to seven. LSU had not had a ten point deficit set all year. There is so much talk going into the game about Brent Venables the clemson defensive coordinator and his wizardry with scheme and how he's able to confuse views opposing offenses quarterbacks and offensive coordinators. And that certainly was true for the first three series of that of the game. LSU punted three consecutive times which. This is the first time they had done that all year. They're also playing really well with field position. Lsu was pinned deep every time. And so you know it did not look like Lsu she was indomitable and unstoppable and that it was a pure talent mismatch. And so. I think you have to give credit to burrow.

Top Twenty five twenty twenty. I'm putting putting this on you. He has clemson one which I think is Ohio state to Alabama three. I think Mack Jones and I guess he'll be battling a a five star. True True Freshman quarterback Bryce Young He it'll be a new receiver core. Because I think Jerry Judy and Henry rugs both declared but Devante Smith and Smith and Jalen waddell still there. Georgia four Jamie Newman. But they returned some some studs on defense. I don't know how you feel about Jamie Newman. I think we're going to probably do a transfer and new look specific show with coaches and transfers popping up all over the country LSU Five to low to high with quarterback uncertainty. Let's say you might be pretty high. Okay yeah that might be. It might be Pretty High Dan. I guess quarterback and coordinator Uncertainty Penn state at six. You gotTa Love Kirk Cheraga. Your hotels You you know where you're staying the whole the whole thing so I don't read too much into doubt you're already in the The walks phase. When you get here? You're not really really getting after it in practice so I think that was too much of a big deal will Lsu have a significant homefield advantage. Tonight it really fun. I keep bringing this up with people that That I've worked with that. Were here in twenty eleven twenty eleven obviously was the rematch. Lsu and Bama You know and I I was actually talking to Lsu people yesterday. I still think that is the most impressive resume I've ever seen in in a regular season college football and the the idea that they had the play Bama again just wasn't I not fair but it just it you you you look back in it and that season doesn't get do So you know in that game. I was talking to people on like I thought Obama had more people Blair than Lsu and all the people were really quick to point out like we didn't have one thing that cheer for that game was twenty one. Not right they. You didn't get the ball over the fifty yard line until the fourth quarter So that that kind of made sense to me But that's the most people I've ever seen here in the city when that game LSU Does have A more more presence here obviously and I think it's only going to increase today as you know. The majority of their fans could just drive into the city today. for the twenty the twenty eleven title game was the year the ninety six regular season. Game right yeah the yeah you know. Sometimes these things get overrated. You know in terms. I mean Clemson's going to get their fair should share tickets and they've got they got a fan base that travels big time and they won it last year but it it. It's not like you're walking into the superdome to face the saints. It tonight Clemson in terms of the crowd. I don't think any chance this game. How does this game state under sixty eight You know that that. I think it's an absolutely perfect number. The one thing I was thinking about those I was out at the first of all for Clemson in Ohio state and dropped a pass on the sideline. Thanks.

"Nick, only die hard Alabama fans. From CEO and hurt staying there. All right. What about though safe Alabama? You say saving promoting from Dan or I think there is a reasonable chance. Dan, he knows or someone else on his staff could get it. Yeah. I mean that has been Nick Sabin practice in recent years. Hi, paul. That's all I got say today's thanks to take him a call. Neal is up next Neil go right ahead. Hi, pal. Thanks, take my call. Thank you. I coke little bit bad mix. Lakes. I think he won't though fifty and over this year, but the first coach team to do that. And this time period. And also I'm thinking he's wanting to win next year in being first team to go three back to back national championships. Now, neil. Let me ask you this. By talking. We're talking about Nick Sabin here. Don't you think he wants to win every game every year? Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. But I'm thinking that no other coats could ever do that. Well, he he came pretty close. He was undefeated and how to lead in the twelfth game of of a shot at three p he'd let it slip away. It's very difficult to do. I listen. I don't know. I Nick savings basic method methodology is not to think about anything other than what's right in front of him. So whether he would ever admit that it's unlikely I think Nick Sabin, if you I mean just think about if he wins this year. That's another undefeated season. He had one in two thousand and nine one less game. It's a seventh national championship. Right. We stay as mayor while. No, no, no. It doesn't tag it. It it. It breaks bears record. LSU but nail Nick Sabin is not equivocating over. Ooh, I only have five or I mean seven seven doesn't matter where you get them. That's right. That's right. It's one more than bear. All right. Well, you have good day. Okay. I'm thanking the call. But I really don't think Nick saving is going, man. I could be undefeated. I can be fifteen or no. He was fourteen to know in two thousand and nine is that was a pretty good is fifteen in no better than fourteen in from a percentage standpoint renting. No. It's Bama math. We'll take a short break. More of your phone calls at eight five five two four two seven two eight five listening to the Paul finebaum show podcast. Okay. We're back here on the program. And so glad you are with us. Al is up next in Illinois. How are you? I'm doing good. How are you Paul? Why? Well, thank you. All right comment on the playoff for people talk about expanding the playoff to six eighteenth. And that. Be careful. You're the objective of the playoffs is to find the best team that's out there. And when you start getting down to places like six seven and eight on the list. I don't think you're anywhere near the best teams in the country. Also on that, you know, they they have heartburn over a couple SEC teams in there. If you looked at the ratings two three weeks ago and took the top teams it had Georgia Alabama LSU all in the playoffs at one time. It's true. Listen. It's it's a subjective conversation. But you're right. It should be the best. But everyone I it it usually is the best unless people want to come up with reasons why then shouldn't be like two offices to SEC schools. Yeah. More deserving deserving should never be used in this conversation. One man's opinion. Here. I think the best four teams the best man chip would have been to see Alabama play Ohio State and the other matchup would have been Clemson playing Georgia. I would agree with that. I could have lived without without Notre Dame in this fourteen playoff in an Oklahoma's. Well, I think but we just couldn't look past Ohio state's loss to Purdue. And we couldn't look past LSU LSU beating Georgia by double digits. Yeah. Then the last thing being from the north here with the Green Bay Packers without a head coach up here. There's a lot of noise about looking for Nick Sabin to come there. Your thoughts. Yeah. I mean, I think Nick savings agent probably gets a call from every NFL owner or in the cowboy excuse me in the Packers case someone someone who manages the team. And I I just can't imagine him being interested..

"Do I'm gonna ask you about a team and give me your impressions as they're doing today. LSU LSU boy, I'll tell you the thing I like about LSU, Tony is they're not fraudulent at all. They don't go out. And try to be who they are not in what they're not capable of being they play good defense. They play physical brand of football. They go out, and they emphasized the running game and they protect their quarterback who comparatively to some other guys in the league is probably limited a little bit physically. So I think they protect what they're good at. And what they know that they can do they understand they have some limitations in there. No fraudulent aspects to Ed ordrs football team, the university of Florida had bounced back after that loss to Missouri at home. Where do you think the Gators are right now, I'm sorry. You're breaking up a little bit. What team are we going with university of Florida university of Florida after that tough loss to Missouri. They bounce back. Whereas Dan Mullins group right now, I think as a team that's still searching mentally and emotionally to sort of figure out who they are. They have some talent they have guys watch their edge rushers attack the quarterback. What's Jordan scarlet when he gets in space watch the Michael p Ryan run the football, but you've had inconsistencies at quarterback and you've had inconsistencies with physical play in the middle of the defense and along the offensive line for the majority of the season. So still attempting to find out who they are as a team what kind of team they can be. I know it's late in the season still to be doing that. But sometimes with the coaching change when you have to mix and match maneuver, different pieces of your team. It takes a long time to sort of figure that out. Call a new I wanted to ask you about this Texas am against you. I'm trying to convince people guys UAB is a is a good football team. They're very well coached. Does you babe? Do they have enough weaponry, Ken, they go on the road and give Texas saying Emma, good gang. Well, they'll need a little bit of help..

"No it actually goes back to Los Angeles coach Tracy is from out in California in LSU special teams coordinator who had been in the NFL for years had. Kind of put out feelers that they were looking for grad transfer. He put out some feelers to to scouts in in NFL scouts in in other assistant coaches and someone I guess name MRs aim, but he's he's a special teams coordinator believe in Iowa State and key is he he played at he played it USC, and he actually played under ORs Ron believe in the late nineties Pete Carroll era. And so there was that little connection there. He and he got he knew of code frac- from California told LSU LSU, you know, reached out the whatnot assumption. College code Frazier that division to school in Massachusetts in boom. You know, he ended up arriving arriving LSU within a few months of being contacted, and he was a grad transfer. So he plays immediately. Get one year of eligibility. And yet he's been incredible for him. I think he's missed two or three field goals. I don't know. Exactly. Number around twenty twenty two makes like that. I mean, it's been it's been pretty incredible LSU record made popular goals and game earlier this year. I think it was against a Mississippi State. I it's just been he's been incredible. I really have. All right. We'll stay on the topic of grad transfer is obviously a huge story was Joe Burroughs, arrival and performance thus far as they've won a lot of games. What is the what would you say is there is consensus about Joe borough season, thus far with you know, -mongst the people whose eyeballs are most trained on him coaches fans, anybody in general is there a general feeling of like he's not the most consistent guy, but he's definitely a timely guy. And he's ours. Is there any sense like that? I think would would you wanted in a quarterback is. Honestly, somebody that they've had in the past at crazy that sound they they want somebody who just managed the game. Well, doesn't make mistakes. They know they have some pretty good skill players around Joe, and they always have a solid running game. Even though that it return a big running back. So they just kinda needed that guy with with that. So call you know, moxy in that leadership Gill and in that ability to make plays with his feet a little bit in not turn the ball over in. Joe has checked all of those boxes Pacific ly-, the leadership kinda moxie box in his numbers aren't great in. They don't you know, LSU because 'cause this is so good. It's running game always so strong. They don't really need the numbers to be great. I think deeper into editors rights tenure here two three years from now. I think he would like a quarterback that can make a little more plays and have a little more passing game. But right now, this is. Eating them in. Joe hasn't made a lot of turnovers but more so he's really kinda won the team, and he's with his leadership, and and just to his his ability to be that gritty kind of player who in key situations make place. It's debts aren't great. But in key situations. He makes plays and he's got that kind of leadership ability and again across across the ball from him, the defensive show strong that he doesn't need to go out and be crazy. And you've got a great kicker that. Yeah. That that would they feel comfortable when they cross that thirty five yard line that they have least three point. So all that kinda helps him be the player that that he is. So you mentioned in two three years because borough will be back next year has another year eligiblity in two three years coach, oh and the offense of staff imagine or picture or have excuse me, a vision for what perhaps the quarterback of the future looks like for LS your the system the ski. Team of the future looks like for LSU. Are we in a one point oh of this offense with you know, the transition from from Canada Stevens bigger, and if so what is that grand vision? Does this offense look appreciably different in two or three years with time? Well, it's it's weird. Because when when Anna was wrong to over he preached having you know, a balanced offense with a passing threat. Ben hasn't had it if you're years he kinda one that you wanted more of a spread offense they are slowly slowly making their way toward that reds game..

"Did you make out of Penn State yesterday is squeaking, past, Appalachian state well I didn't get to watch the whole game I saw mostly bits and pieces I'll watch. It very closely in the next couple of days because I. Have an state and Pitt next weekend in Pittsburgh so first of all I'm glad they won right because of our game next week But obviously they got. All that, they can handle and ask for and more by very game Appalachian state team their quarterback. Played extremely well they did not back down and you know they went for the win with. The long field goal at. The end knowing it. Was gonna, probably be tough. To win and over overtime but. I'll tell you what I give I give. App state a lot of credit because they went in there they were not intimidated and they gave Penn State everything. They could handle yet the other messages big ten teams you might wanna stop scheduling Appalachian state for your openers on eleven years. To the day some some debuts yesterday Cuyler Murray at Oklahoma JT Daniels at? USC, rallied the troops in the second half from. A second half deficit and Trevor. Lawrence came on put some time with Kelly Bryant at Clemson Trevor Lawrence three touchdown passes five scoring drives Nettie engineered of. Those quarterbacks tied who, made their debuts which do you think had the better debut You know it's it's hard to say I heard you talking to coach Brown about Dwayne Haskins he's another guy he made. His debut, as a starter you know and and was spectacular as was to Tunga by law Loa. In his first time as a starter in You know I gotta throw a couple of other names in, there your in all those guys, were impressive, but I look at the competition too I think what Jarret stidham did yesterday against a very good Washington, defense in, gutting out that twenty one to sixteen win twenty. Six to thirty six to seventy three and a touchdown and then will Greer against a you know a pretty lively athletic Tennessee defense put on a performance that Heisman guys do and. Heisman hopefuls do twenty-five thirty. Four four hundred and twenty nine yards and five touchdowns so I I, really tip my hat to those two guys even though were established starters because of the caliber of team they were. Playing and this is the beauty of college football we don't have a preseason so when all of these guys step on the field in week. One we, haven't seen them for a. Quarter or two quarters like you do in the NFL. And I think. You're right a lot of it is, coming into, this year at college football early on your question marks Todd Blackledge calling the game tonight on ABC television With Sean McDonough return of Sean to college football LSU in Miami entitled leads perfectly into our game because. Again what are the question marks coming in is LSU's quarterback situation half they finally found one in Joe, borough I think we'll answer that question Tonight. I don't think we know, the answer here's Joe Burrows appeared appeared in ten games he's got very, nice statistics never started a game and obviously the bottom line is he couldn't beat out Dwayne Haskins that's why he was looking for a new home he, found one at LSU and so, he's hoping to have a great show tonight at ordure odd and Steve ends winger are. Hoping for him? To have, a great showing and what a better stage your opportunity for him against a very fast and talented Miami defense on the other side you've got the Miami hurricanes. Last year offensively Melik Rhodesia and then just figure. It out has that changed you know, I don't know that it's changed a whole lot. Because the reason so much fell on his. Shoulders last year is because they don't have a dominant offensive line I think Travis homers a very good running back I think he's a high quality player but they didn't have a dominant line last year I think they'll be. Better upfront, this year I still don't know that they would be a, dominant group and and this defense they are. Going to face tonight and LSU I think will be the. Best defense they will face all season and. Less they get to the. ACC championship game again. And would face off with Clemson I think one good thing for. Me Rozier is that he gets them on Richard's. Back healthy he was only, healthy for one game last year he's the most dynamic player on the, Miami offense and him being healthy is is really good news for a quarterback eight tied at the end of the first quarter what indicator are you gonna, be looking at where you may, have a have the temperature of how this game is going to go I think which. Offensive line can? Block because, these two defensive fronts are both really active really fast the front sevens bolt defensive coordinators Manny Diaz for Miami Dave Aranda for LSU they liked to get creative. And how they bring pressure in past situations so. A lot is going to be determined, early by which offensive line can keep their quarterback. Upright keep the cleanest pocket and also established. A little bit of a run game so I think it comes down to which one of those big groups up front has Has the best show of it early in the ball game is Todd Blackledge calling, the game. On ABC television tonight with Sean, McDonough and Holly Rowe, LSU and Miami coming. Up next kickoff in this game the hurricanes offense powered by Melik Rozier. On defense you've got the turnover chain for the LSU Tigers they've always had defense they've always had, running backs do they actually have a quarterback we begin to answer that question. Coming up next tech.
