Mcclanahan says there's a reason he's 7 and O. If you don't get wins, your boys behind you don't make the plays or contribute and these guys have gone above and beyond so do every single thing the right way and play hard and be great teammates and I'm lucky to be a part of that. I think being consistent is the ultimate compliment for me, you know, you kind of want to know what to expect every single time and said this for years, my only goal is to help this team win a lot of ball games and if that's what consistency means and I'm okay with that. Lowe's first inning double put the rangers on top when nothing, but he blew the game open when he drove in a pair in the 5th. Rangers manager Bruce bogey. Loads of that was big. He was violent up there to strikes and he fought off the tough fastball up in him and laid it out there for not to run single. Dean Cain on His Journey From Trailer Park to Princeton to Hollywood
"So dean, your life has been so fascinating. So I wanted to ask you a little bit about just kind of your journey before we talk about more of the news stuff. I saw that you spent some of your childhood in Michigan and then in California. And in high school, when you were in Santa Monica, you were excelling in sports, and you even played some baseball with Charlie Sheen and Rob Lowe. Is that correct? And what was that like? It's mostly correct. I grew up, so I grew up in I was born in Michigan, but I moved to California when I was three. My mom up and took off with her two kids. Her first husband was my biological father. It was not an ideal husband, was philandering and so she left and came out to LA to be an actress with two kids to the Asian kids. And we looked more on my given name as Tanaka. So she came out here with us too, and met and fell in love with my dad. Who she married a year later. And then through a really terrible story actually, a woman was raped and I believe killed in an apartment next to us or right near us. And then the next day myself and a couple other guys, my brother and another couple kids were out playing cops and robbers as they used to back in the day. And I was the youngest and so I wasn't able to have I didn't get to a gun. So I went looking for something and I found the real gun and it was apparently the weapon that was used and that day my dad borrowed, I don't ten, $12,000 from his parents in South Dakota and moved us to a trailer park in Malibu. And I grew up in a trailer park in Malibu, which sounds, you know, like trailer park. Yeah, but it was in Malibu. So we'd spend our days outside all day long on the beach, running around, and I grew up with kids like Sean Penn, Chris Penn Rob Lowe, Charlie Sheen, Emilio Estevez, all those kids were just, we were all just part of this one little Malibu group. I guess all our parents were involved in the business, not all of them, but in some way or another. And so through this weird happenstance, those kids all ended up being actors. Now I played baseball Charlie for a long time. Rob, rob was never the great athlete. Rob even back in the elementary school was just all the girls loved him and he's so pretty. And he loved the girls back. So that was the that was the skinny and rob, so to speak. Charlie very good baseball player. Played on teams with him forever. And then went to high school, Santa Monica high school. And I was a good athlete student. It worked out real well for me. A lot of the kids are madly when they got to Santa Monica worked able to compete at that level, unfortunately. So a lot of the kids stopped playing sports, Charlie continued to play for a while. I don't even know what he did to seeing it if he played a scene here or not. And then I was lucky enough to with my grades and thank you to get the president of the university, had a wonderful career at Princeton. Grew up a lot turned into him and went from a boy to a man there and played very well. I played football. I mean, football ran track and I played volleyball. And then I got a chance to play for the Buffalo Bills afterward, which was great. And got hurt right away. And then it's been acting and directing and filmmaking ever since.

"I actually was thinking about this. Is that your most, we all have fan bases that seem to come after us the most when we spend too much time on social media or wherever else, is that is that are they the bane of your existence. They're the ones who are going to come the most. Is there another fan base out there that haunts you? Oh, I love Toronto fans. Even the spooky Mulder contingent is just sort of fun. I don't even know anymore because I don't pay attention. I do know I ran into someone in Toronto who saw me on the street and was like, oh, Zach Lowe, hey man, I said some nasty stuff about you on Twitter. I'm sorry. You're actually you're a really nice guy. I like your work. Like, oh, okay, I didn't see it. But thanks. And I think that's just how most people are. The people who are mean on social media, if they see you in real life, like Kyrie Irving, actually to his credit, talked about this when the Boston fans were getting on him was kind of like when he tried to engage him and was like, here I am. If you saw me in a coffee shop, you guy calling me profane names would probably come up to you and you'd be like, hey, Kyrie just love your game. Yeah. Big fan. People are just different on social media than they are in real life. And so I just learned to stop paying attention to it. But this poor guy was like, I didn't even tell me what he said God only knows what it was, and he was like, perfectly nice guy. You're better than me for not looking at all those comments all the time. I probably spent too much time reading any of it. Yeah, when you say different on social media, what you mean is that people are far worse on social media. Well, people call you names. Like, you're a fucking idiot. You're an idiot moron and then they see you in real life and they're like, oh, there's a person. Yes. He's a person and he's like walking with other people. Also. By the way, I want to say this almost every time. Guys, it's just sports. It ain't that serious. By the way, a criticism or negative remark about your team is not a personal attack on you. You are not your team. I hate to tell you this. You are not your team. It has nothing to do with you. All right, last thing. Give me one thing you would change. If you could grab Doc Brown's Delorean, go back in time, save one team this summer from minor error, catastrophic mistake just whatever flight of fancy they took that they shouldn't have is there one thing you would undo on behalf of one team. Well, there's only one answer that there's multiple answers to this question, but there's really only one, right? I mean, there's only one. Probably one primary when I have a, I have an alternate one, but I'm curious.

"People ask me about my process, and I'm like, it's really kind of just boring. I just focus and work as hard as I can. But you're definitely trying to get it would seem to me in part because you're doing the ten things column, which requires you to have, and also just your job in general. You have to have a feel for all 30 teams at all times. I can not do it to the extent that you do. It's something I greatly admire and envy. I'm also kind of ADHD. And so when I'm watching a game, especially if it gets a little bit draggy and I look at the app and I see that there's another game that's closer to the fourth quarter. I'm constantly doing the click around watching the last 5 minutes of a bunch of close games. I'm terrible that way. And so I also get sucked into the trap of, well, oh wait, the warriors are on again. I want to see what's going on with them or what the Celtics are doing or what Luca's doing or what jokic is doing. And so some teams just fall off the map. So that's the other thing. It seems like you make it a point to over the course of any 7 day span. If it's only two games a night, only two games a night. You're definitely hitting a lot of them. I also know this because we've sat next to each other, particularly at Barclays center for nets games occasionally. There's the game on the court and then there's the game that's on your laptop often. Two things I know about Zach Lowe during games. One, there will be another game on the laptop while there's a game on the court to do not bother Zack load in the course of a game. Zack is concentrating just as he is when he's chopping onions apparently. Well, that's I get, does that count as multitasking because if I'm at a game, the thing about being at a game, it's super exciting, it's wonderful to see it live, but there's three minute commercial break, 15 minute halftime this is stupid official review for no reason on whether this should be a take fowl or not that takes 6 minutes. You add all that up. All that dead time, I can get another game and knock it out while I'm at the game. And then on my car ride home, if I'm taking an Uber or a cab or something, I can sit in the back seat, dial up my Wi-Fi and watch like part of a third game. My whole life is just really actually sad. It's just about time management. That's the only governing thing going through my brain at all times this time management. So that's why I don't, that's why I watch a game during the games, and that's why when people say hello to me, I'm just like, hello, and then I put my headphones are the ultimate weapon for solitude. Just put the headphones on, wave and continue watching wizards magic. And I do watch every team.

"After only 25 games into the season, but that's not what's most important. What's most important is, as you said, with friends for a long time, I'm a loyal listener to the podcast. And I was rooting for Croatia just for you. I wanted Zach Lowe to be happy. I found myself watching that game and I was like, you know what? I do have a minor connection to this game. I know someone personally that would be absolutely thrilled if Croatia won. Therefore, I am rooting for Croatia and sure enough, look at you. You've got to be mister World Cup now. Hey, look, man. Pound for pound. Pound for pound. Little country of 4 million people. 4 million. That's it. How many cities in Brazil are bigger than Croatia? Several. Several third place in 98, second place in 18 minimum quarterfinals this season, the amount of screaming and running around that was happening at my house during penalty kicks. The other day was inappropriate. We had a babysitter coming because it was early dismissal at school. We had to have some child care. And the game was going so long that my wife was like, we can't be behaving like this. It was the first time we're using this babysitter. We can't let her into this atmosphere and think that we're these insane people. Pound for pound, look, man, Brazil, our win probability is probably like 5%. I know the deal. Brazil is scary. But I'll tell you this. They never give up, their tough as hell, and a lot of teams are scared of Brazil. This is my, I have no soccer knowledge, by the way. I'm just gonna be the guy who's watched like 30 minutes of soccer. A lot of teams are intimidated by Brazil, Chris. They see the yellow. They see the mustard yellow jerseys and they begin quaking in their cleats. Croatia ain't gonna be scared of anybody. And the last thing I will say is I've already alerted my producers. If Croatia wins tomorrow, NBA today at 3 p.m. eastern, it's gonna be, it's gonna be a little wobbly for me. If Croatia wins tomorrow morning, you should tune in to NBA today 'cause I don't know, I don't know what's going on beyond going out at my house and what kind of shape I'm gonna be in. But never give up, man. You never know. You know, you get the first goal and you never know. That's all I'm saying. I need to know, I need to know the setup. Is it just you and your wife at these Croatia World Cup parties or do you invite people over? And does your daughter get into this? Does she know what's going on? Does she have an awareness of it? Daughter has a Modric Jersey and has a dance has a dance she does, it's a celebratory dance, but she just does it at random times during the games. We had friends over for the game against Canada. Which is on a Sunday, I think. And one of them brought a one of them has at least one daughter, one of their daughters is born in Canada and is like 5 and announced that she was cheering for Canada. And I said, you know, you got to get out of here. You don't get any food, you don't get any snacks. And she was and she just looked at me like, no, I don't. And I was like, you know what? You look at me like that again. You may actually have to get out of here 'cause I don't need this energy in this house. So there's a Croatian restaurant near us that we were thinking about going to tomorrow, but it's just, I don't know.

"Want to get in we'll have time for your phone calls coming up in just a few minutes. Always love talking to this man Chris Lowe joining us here from ESPN silo. Thanks for giving us a few minutes of your time. We do appreciate it before we get into some South Carolina stuff. I want you to take your reporter hat off for a second, put on your Chris Lowe, the human being, the college football fan hat and tell me your favorite college town in the SEC, your favorite uniform in the SEC and your favorite stadium in the SEC as a fan, not a reporter. What do you got? Well, I think my favorite experience would be LSU. I think without question, just being there on a Saturday and all the smells and the sites and the you just everything that goes into being there at LSU. So I think LSU, the whole game day experiences right there at the top. Stadium, I've always felt like Sanford stadium on a Saturday was his electric and then you got to there's just so much there's so much history there and I just love the red and the black and everything about that. Now when you're at Tennessee and a night game on the banks the Tennessee river certainly when Tennessee had it roll in the 90s, there is no better place. Uniforms, I think I'd have to go probably with LSU, the white jerseys, I've always loved that combo in that look. All right, just wanted to get that out of the way, Chris. And then we can now we can go back to being responsible journalists here. You just had a great story about Shane beamer and the job he's doing at South Carolina and certainly they massively overachieve last year. They go get Spencer Rattler to solve their quarterback problem because using graduate assistance is not a sustainable solution to that position. Chris, how much of what they accomplished last year was Shane Bieber instilling a philosophy and a principle and a culture how much of it was catching auburn and Vanderbilt in Florida at the right time. How much should we buy into what we're hearing about Shane beamer in the gamecocks right now? Yeah, and those are all fair questions because I don't think you can a lot of us media in particular won't look at one year in Sarah. What happened last year, all of a sudden is going to bleed into this coming year. I don't think you can ever say that the case. I think what happened last year is Shane was able to build a culture and believe those kids haven't been in that building and just sort of seeing how much they believe in him and what they're doing and you're right. They got into November there and they got Albert at a good time. They got four of the good times. But let's be honest, it's not like South China's history has beaten Florida all over the bunch period. Carolina was a team brain last year that was pretty close to being a four or 5 win team. You think about they barely be east Carolina. They barely Vanderbilt. But they also lost a close game to Missouri and they lost a very close game to Kentucky. So you count those as wins. You're looking at potentially a 9 one season and you look at the SEC, that margin is always very small between a file and a 6 one team and an 8 and 9 team. But I don't think there's any question as a kid in that locker room and believe in shame beamer and they believe in what they're building. And they see the ways recruiting, you see the way he's treating kids and at least one of them. So that goes a long way when you've got that type of culture. Chris Lowe, joining us here, Braden gall on the Paul finebaum show, ESPN radio and I had a chance to talk with him a couple of weeks ago, Chris about, you know, being prepared for the job. And he basically said, one of the most overrated things in the sport is being a brilliant play caller because he was never a coordinator. If you just because he said to me, he goes, just because you're a brilliant play caller on offense or defense doesn't make you prepared to be a great head coach. And I think what's interesting about what he's doing and I think I would argue Josh hype is doing this at Tennessee Mark stoops has done this at Kentucky Sam Pittman at Arkansas, maybe even Mike leach at Mississippi state is that with name image and likeness and just sort of this, could you make a case that there is a new wave of just like regular old dudes that are just ball coaches that are doing right by people in their program and that it's working in college football? Yeah, I don't think relationships have ever been more important. And coaching. With your right then, I asked the transfer portal moms and dads and kids feeling like they can trust you and that they connect. Michael Vick, when I talk to Michael for that historic or C and Shane go back 20 plus years and he said, you know, Shane's ability to connect and relate to people from all walks of life. Has always been one of his strengths. And he said, you know, listen to him, talk to his players, looking back 20 plus years. And I think that's one of Shane's strengths. He's genuine. He's humble. He's not afraid to be direct and honest. And kids love that. They love that knowing where they stand with their coach. Doesn't mean that there's an old cliche of being a player's coach. I think he's one of those coaches who believed in his players and instills in his players belief that he's always going to be behind. But I agree. I think you've got to have good people around you. And you mentioned a lot of coaches that I think all those people do. You've got to hire well. People you trust, you've got to bring in new ideas. People from different walks of life. And I think it's changed case. If you look at all the different people, he's worked under from his dad to Steve's further to Lincoln Riley. This is the best recruit Kirby smart Philip former Georgia Leary. All those guys are different. They have different approaches, different styles, different sides of the football. And I think he's been an excellent job and we can rally mention this to me when I ask him about Shane a blending all those things that he learned in those coaches together and sort of making those are taking those and still being Shane beamer, but taking components of those coaches is football team. Chris Lowe from ESPN joining us here on the Paul fine bomb show Brady and Gaul in for Paul ESPN radio and I want to go one step further with NIL because it does feel like so much of what college football was for let's say let's call it the Internet era. Since 2002 or three, let's say, being that just absolute insane recruiting assassin was so much a part of your job description. If you can now go to your collective off the books, of course, I would never suggest that that was ever done on purpose. But if a collective could now handle some of that job description, right? Taking that part of your job away from, again, I think Josh hyper is benefiting from this at Tennessee. He doesn't have to be the used car salesman all the time. He can just be a ball coach. Is that one of the unintended consequences of name image and likeness at this point, outsourcing some of your recruiting to your collective? It can be. I think if you've got it set up the right way and you buy into it as a coach and you have, as I said, the right people now, are you suggesting the name image and likeness is actually become a part of the recruiting process. Surely you're not suggesting that. No one ever saw that kind of thing. I would never, Chris, I would never. I think it's a good but I think it's a good thing, though, because it meet to me if I'm an athletic director, it means I can broaden my opinion of what makes a good coach. If that makes sense. Yeah, no, I'm just joking around with you guys being facetious. I think it absolutely changes the game a little bit because, listen, it's no secret when Ohio State and Georgia and Alabama and Clemson are year and year and year in and year out getting the best players. And you go back and look at who's one championship for the last ten years, all of those schools and one championships. Have had runs of being in the top 5 or top 6

"One of the other stat indicators for the Celtics throughout the playoffs is when Mark is smart scores over 18 points. I didn't like it as much as the Tatum assisted. So I haven't talked about it, but the Celtics had been 8 O in the postseason when smart scored at least 18 points. He had 18 points tonight, but he took 8 teen shots. And there were times in the fourth quarter were Tatum and Jalen couldn't find the look and Marcus was like, okay, if you don't want to shoot it, I will. And I just don't think, you know, I don't think in the fourth quarter you want Marcus smart as the guy that you're going heavy with. I think he's a change up at that point. Not a lead dog. And when they go back and watch the film, I think they're going to see some possessions and say, I think even white had a few wild drives that I didn't love earlier in the shot clock. He was two of 7 in the second half. That resulted in misses and a few turnovers. I do think the words defense was really good. And Looney has been just outstanding defensively around the basket, making the Celtics think. He's going to come for the shot. Is he going to stay home? Is he going to try and get the rebound? Obviously Robert Williams burned him a few times in the first half with putbacks, draymond, I thought was solid, clay and Wiggins were really good hats off to clay, who's just tough as hell. By the way, cleaning the glass so I'm looking at the numbers now, shout out Ben folk, what's up? Has this as an interestingly, despite the fact that the words had a decent offensive game average ish, cleaning the glass has them awful in the half court, just neck and neck with Boston both awful. I don't know exactly what they count as half court and transition, but it does make you remember a lot of the Steph three's were like first action over half court. A lot of the clay threes and they did really well running clay off pin downs from whoever the Celtic centers were guarding because they do not want to switch their centers out on Stephen clay and a lot of that was early in the shot clock when the Celtics were kind of backpedaling and trying to get set clay got a couple of good threes, got on track a little bit out of that. I would love to see, I don't have the transition number in front of me, but it shows you that like early clock target the right guys for the warriors they got good shots and pool showed up like pools gotta perk has been big on TV this week about pool can't play in this series and I get why defensively they're gonna go at them all the time. I just think they don't have they don't have choices. He needs to be able to score for them to win. By the way, you wanted to know why the warriors graded out poorly and half court. Because they're not a good half court offensive team. That's why Steph should take more shots. And again, tonight, you know, I agree that turnovers weren't the defining situation for the Celtics, but they gave up 19 points off turnovers. You'll have a 107 points in 19 of them come off turnovers. That's you can't help them. You can't help them and Tatum, who you're giving a C plus, God bless you, had 6 of them. I was an easy teacher when I was a high school teacher. Were you really? Oh, yeah. Partly because I had no idea what I was doing, and I was completely disorganized and unqualified. So it's just easier to be easy. Yeah. No one should have hired me to be a teacher at age 24. It was a day. I feel bad for those children. Some of whom have actually turned out to be okay, but they all respected you though. They all respected you. They still call me mister Lowe and they see me. You're like four years younger than me. Can you not call me mister Lowe? That's a past life. One more thing before I think we will wrap up here soon. Again, I'm going to speak about Jayson Tatum's not great night. I don't know if it was three or four possessions. But he was getting, I don't know if I want to say locked up, but he was having difficulty with pneumonia belitsa. In the second half of this game. You got his pocket picked once. Was it Tatum, whose pocket he put? You picked somebody's pocket in here, half court. The mania blitzer, God bless them. Hey man, the guy's smart and big and he's not fast enough and one of them Robert Williams was under the rim and Tatum couldn't get by him and he just signed it had a settle for a floater and they are like a turnaround. They took Robert Williams out and put a Horford into space to floor better, but yeah, look, all the calls for camina, moody, nope, curse stuck with bay Liza for 9 minutes, he survived. And I think now 5 games in were starting to get closer to the point where the teams both in what they run and who they play and who they target are starting to coalesce into what will be the final versions of themselves in this series and part of that is Kerr signaling today even when he made a starting lineup change. Come in and play moody didn't play Iguodala essentially hasn't played since game one other than some defensive possessions and garbage time in game three tice hasn't played in two games..

But that just means you've had an extra year to celebrate privately or with those that former teammates at such that you can keep close. But what are you most looking forward to now as you look forward to the weekend? You know, I keep hearing from everyone. I've been to the Hall of Fame ceremonies a bunch of times, but of course, it's different when you're sitting in the audience, but from all my former Euler Hall of Famers have told me that, you know, be prepared, it's, you know, it's pretty emotional time. I guess unfortunately because I'm just, you know, on the heels of the banner raising and Edmonton, so that was a little bit of emotion there, so maybe I'm dulled down a little bit. But just a lot of some old family friends haven't seen for a lot of years or instrumental in my early days. Drake's and yeah, just to see, you know, it's been a couple of years, right with the pandemic. So no Hall of Fame typically, it's a nice gathering place for people in the hockey world. So looking forward to the weekend. Everybody that gets inducted say one of the most nerve wracking parts of this thing is is to get your speech together. You've had two years. How many speeches have you written? I wish I could say lots. I'm the classic procrastinator right. And I always do my best. I always do my best work on deadlines. You know, I've spoken a lot in recent years when I've been primarily on the business side with the oilers. So by the inevitable, you know, I'm a day out and I'm cramming away to get my speech done. This one I've got a little bit of the earth, but I really didn't start to, well, I went over to visit my son, Keegan, my wife and I, Karen, went over to visit Keegan's plane in the Austrian league this year for ball's adult. And so we just got back. So I did a little bit on the way over in a little bit on the way back and been just fine tuning it this week. Well, maybe not that you're nervous, you'll always through this. But we get up there, camis inducted and her induction and she turns to me right before she goes up on stage and she says, do you have the first page of my speech? I'm like, why would I have the first page? Somewhere, you know, we had our little guy. She was trying to get him settled down. Somewhere she'd lost the first page. So her speech is amazing. The fact that she lost it only lost it. I don't know how the hell she did it. So hopefully you got yours written down where you're not going to lose it. Yeah, yeah, no one to give you the option for the teleprompter as well. So.

You can get a treatment, but there's no cure. So many people think that my story is inspiring. How I became blind at just 17 years of age. They always want to know how I've done it. And how I've kept smiling all along the way. Well, I just chosen to focus my attention on seeing the positive side to life. And here on the podcast, that's what I want to do for you. Because no matter what you may be going through in life, I hope to inspire you to focus on the positive. And you know what? I hope that I can also be a source of inspiration for you to just keep on smiling. Hey, my name is Kevin Lowe and I am the host here on the lowdown with Kevin Leo. And I'm excited to be bringing you episode 58 where I am joined by guest Joe rinaldi. A beautiful thing about life about human connection in my opinion is that below the surface we're all the same. We're all human beings. Despite what people may look like or what their voices may sound like. What they may classify themselves as whether that's a career or nationality. We're all just human beings. And we're all just trying to make it in this crazy thing they call life. That's what I think is awesome about this realm of podcasting is because I get to make this type of awesome human connections with people just like Joe Ronald. From physical therapists to performance coach, Joe rinaldi, how's it going to leave this world a little bit better? Place than when he found it. Through appearances on podcasts like this plus co hosting his own podcast and to writing in public speaking, Joe wants to share his story of sight loss of struggle and the power of a positive mindset. Me and Joe, we were connected by a fellow podcaster who connected the two of us, both based on that positive mindset and the shared comment bond of having problems with our eyesight. What happened was an awesome conversation, two guys, two totally different walks of life, sitting together, and just talking about life. And, well, I'm super excited and the fact that I get to share it with you today. Here on the podcast, episode 58. Listen, if you're not already signed up for the email list for the podcast, please be sure to check out the show notes where you can find a link to get signed up. Awesome way for me to be sure you're getting the latest episode delivered right to your inbox each week. And a cool way for us just to connect right there via email. Okay. Here is my conversation with Joe Ronald. So I have something called best disease and best disease is also known as juvenile onset macular dystrophy and for everybody who has no idea what I just said. Basically, I've been losing my central site since I was ten years old. And so right now I'm 27. And I am legally blind in my right eye. My left eye knock on wood is pretty good at this time. So I can function pretty much how anybody else would function who cited and I can read. I can drive. I can do those things. But the reality of my condition is that it's very sporadic and unpredictable. And so I've been lucky enough to have stable site for the past few years, but any morning I could potentially wake up and not have that site. So I just try to do my best live every day to the fullest and not take anything for granted. But I really view my loss of sight as a blessing. And I'm sure that's something we can get into later if it's feels right. But that's a little bit about my condition. Yeah, no, wow. That's interesting. So now, so you said that started at around ten years old? Correct. All right, at least that's when you were diagnosed with it. Well, yeah, I actually woke up one morning when I was ten, and I realized that something was off with my eyesight. I couldn't tell what it was. I had just woken up and I opened my eyes. And I knew something wasn't right. And so I just, you know, I closed one eye and then closed the other eye and I realized that I couldn't see out of my right eye. And it had just happened overnight. So my parents had rushed in to New York City and we saw a bunch of different specialists and we finally found a Doctor Who diagnosed me with best disease. And the way the condition works is that you can get a treatment to slow the progression when you have a flare up. But there's no cure. So every time you have an episode or flare up, your site gets worse. And then you can stop that from getting any worse at the moment, but it never gets better. So it's kind of a you have to stay on top of it and you have to be always aware of what you're seeing with best disease. Absolutely. So did you did you do those treatments that you're talking about? Yes, so that first day when I had woken up early that morning, we ended up getting a I ended up getting a laser surgery that night pretty late. It was like 10 o'clock. I believe the doctor had stayed way past when their shift was the only ones in the building. And I had a laser surgery. And so what was happening was there was a fluid build up behind my retina. And it was happening because there were some blood vessels behind my retina that shouldn't have been there, and they were leaking fluid. They were leaking blood. And so the laser stopped that from getting worse. But the interesting part about the laser said it was a cold laser and it was light activated. So they actually gave me an IV of this very light sensitive drug. And so I actually had to stay inside for three days completely in the dark like sweatshirts, sweatpants, like in the basement of my house because if I got exposed to the sun, then that chemical was still in my bloodstream and it would get activated by the sun and basically really.

See him as a guy who can just fit in Play a role. Yeah this is an important summer for this bull's team. And i think billy donovan mark averagely their gm and of course. Our tourist garnish abyss. Their president trying to figure out what what the right mix of players looks like. This was a team that was playing really fast last year. And then you trade for vucevic and it slows down a little bit. And i think ilson. He's a great. You can play a lot of offense threw him. they've gotta figure out and play making. Certainly you know a big part of that. I think you know this is a team that you're exactly right. The they've gotta figure out their identity they've got to get a playmaker to run it and the use of its trade sped up the pressure on this team to not just like you said not. Just be able to get in the plane but be like. They think they should have a team here. Now that is a is a perennial eastern conference Should be contender. There's still ways away from that and we forget things like this but another guy that went out in that trade was otto porter who the bulls and give up a ton fraud reporters jabari parker and bobby portis who now feels like a ton. Because he's fresh off the final stage and otto porter just didn't work out. He was part of their core. He was the the big three that they wanted in those things. "All these teams are working through. Well i mean there's just a ton of subplots interesting when you talk about the pelicans number one if they're dangling at ten pick as part of a salary dump. I hope they're getting another first round pick and returned. There's just lower at trading down in the draft right because to me just giving up a first round pick. I get the reason. I get the salary mechanics. All that they're st-. I know that they have a million picks coming from the lakers. There's still too early in this rebuild to start just giving away picks to me unless you're getting move down seven spots of memphis or something. That's us so bad. You can get roughly equivalent players that seventeen and ten but this. This sort of is almost reminding. The of anthony davis two point. Oh when they got a d. Realized we have transcendent talent. And then just went. Whole hog rushing to get veterans around him and the team just wasn't good enough and i think zion williamson. I just think they have to be careful. Feeling the pressure is one thing like zionism transcendent talent. We saw with trae young. Just now if you're if you're young guys might be twenty two twenty three if they're ready to win with talent around them. They're ready to win. I just just be a little. Just try to thread. The needle like dogs did and i think the pelicans hope that. If let's say they got kyle. Our veteran point guard that it is in some way. And i don't think it's they're not going to be in the nba finals next year. But in some ways it could impact their roster. The way chris paul impacted those young players in phoenix. I think it's i understand the thinking Certainly he'd improved them. They want better decision making immaturity all all the things that certainly lowry would bring you. But there's a big market for kyle lowry and you're talking. Potentially twenty five million a year thirty million a year for kyle lowry. It's going to be Expensive to get at him. In free agency or sign and trade after phoenix. I'm hesitant throughout anybody making the nba finals like ten months advance. That was that no one if we had sat on this show a year ago. So you know we might make the finals. Phoenix keep it. I thought hey listen when they made me all trade. Hey they're gonna make the playoffs team. We thought they'd be good but finals was was. I want to go back to chicago for a second. Because i think it was kind of an under talked about story at the end last season. They put in a lot of draft equity and wendell carter junior. Who's a decent nba player to get vuckovich. Didn't make the play in tournament. couldn't even make the plan tournament. These house zach levine was in health and safety protocols. I was a huge deal. That really hurt their season. But i think it hasn't been talked about enough that this is a team. That's under pressure to win next year. They have to get in the playoffs year. They have to make a leap next year. And when you look at their core it's they don't have this giant hawks young core of guys and that's why the lonzo thing is so interesting to me. Are they going to be able to get him out in free agency. Is it going to cost them. Lower market which is named. And he's like you barely hear anymore that that was the rumor deal with lonzo for market was going to happen because they need to put together a team. They're they're alarmingly dependent right now on like thad young and tomas sanski they.

"Dallas in that mix. But i think people have to look back at this postseason with dennis schroder and remember. He had kovin late in the year and was out for ten days and not in the gym and sick and then showed up and played in the playoffs. The performance wasn't there but we saw plenty of other players in the league who went through that at different points in the year. They traded for him from oklahoma city year ago with the idea that they would resign him. And as you said they cannot replace him if he leaves they have literally offered cow. Kuzma and casey almost almost every team. I've talked to in. The league has been offered some combination of coups and casey p sometimes both of them one of them. And that's not going to get them back up point guard of of of dentists his stature and so i think listen he's got options again chicago new york. I still think in the end. There's a deal will be made for him. To stay with the lakers Because all of a sudden now you're talking about could we go get ricky rubio like some good players but i still think shooter is a player who who moves the needle and let's get him out of kobe's season getting back with a training camp with this team and it's probably going to look a lot different. They need another playmaker to take some of the low from abroad and that was the idea they badly need that playmaker to be able to shoot better than dennis. Shooter shoot shot last year. Finding that player is going to be very difficult for them. You can start making a double sign and trades with schreuder for another fridge applaud. Those are very complicated deals. There is another point guard who can shoot really well. But it's probably out of the lakers price range. And that's chris. Paul who has a forty something million forty something million forty four player option with the phoenix suns. Just made the finals with them. Wants to be near his family on the west coast phoenix. Check that box. where do we stand with. Cpi three and free agency. That is a fascinating question in this off season. Because it's not. Just chris paul. But they've gotta cameron payne. They have to pay to keep their. They have extension eligible the andrea in miquel bridges. De'andre what is gonna wanna max contract and he's going to get it next year in restricted free agency. If you don't give it to him now kill. Bridges might be a twenty million dollar a year player. Now you can. There's a might be there. I think he's getting paid a lot of money. Absolutely now. you can push those guys off a year and deal with restricted free agency. But chris. this is a test for robert star and his willingness to spend. It is not inconceivable. That chris paul ops out of that contract and comes into this free agent market and then all of a sudden the sons are not the sons are competing with everybody else in and other options and he has a lot more options in free agency right now then he had trade options coming out of. Okay see last year even at thirty six years old well that would be a huge store and like you said they have a year window left bridges and eight and are on their rookie deals. The pain financially comes in the next year. A team that is experiencing a lot of pain financially. But that's what they signed up for the brooklyn nets. We haven't taught to brooklyn nets. The fact that Simmons has four years left on his contract. Means that the sixers don't just have to do a deal this week. All the scenario you're laying out are going to be there and you can't approach any of those if you do something real. Quick here and hastily. Well we did just see another team with another point guard make the nba finals. And that's phoenix with chris. Paul and the point guard market. This summer is saturated. Who have a big decision made within. A shooter turned down a big money extension. They don't really have an easy way to replace him. Despite the fact they had a slightly disappointing season. What could we see from tinseltown. Well as you said schreuder turn down that four year. Eighty four million dollars extension. Which was the most. The lakers could offer during the season knowing that there was more for him in free agency and you have teams like chicago and new york with cap space new orleans trying to create the cap space to have to get a big point. "Up that dunk in game seven. That was just frankly jarring to see what's the latest we have on. Ben simmons the sixers are engaged out there in trade talks and they're talking. They're taking on offers. They're making offers around the league. They're trying to get a sense. Listen who's the best possible player. They can get back because they're doing a trade to want to continue to be a championship contender. Like they don't have to take. They can't be in of a mindset. And i don't believe they are of. We just have to move him. He's got four years left on his contract and they can't overreact to that ironclad years no options no nothing for ironclad years which means he really has no leverage and where he could go. If you trade. For ben simmons. You know you've got him under contract he's going to come and play not opens up the landscape of teams But i think. I think it'll will be serious this week. And they're certainly if there's a deal out there they're going to do it but they also know they get one crack at this and making the wrong deal. It takes them out of championship. Contention with joel embiid in his prime. They've got to be really careful. But you know. Daryl morey like it is hard for him to win. There's a deal to be had in the air. No one loves making deals with him. Well you know. They went after harden didn't get harden and everyone thought well if they'll get harden beal's the next logical target but i think it name that's really interesting as an inflection. Point is cj mccollum in portland. A simmons from column swap. What who has to throw in draft equity they'll argue about that but that has made theoretical sense theoretical. I say because mccollum comes to philly and he's the he's the guard that they don't have the shooting playmaking fits well with joel embiid. But then if you're philly you start to say well boy that puts a lot of pressure on joel embiid to carry the defense almost by himself and we saw what happened to rudy gobert in the playoffs when utah bill kind of roster with them and as you said they don't want just anybody for ben simmons. They want an all star player. For ben simmons the. Cj is a very good players. there have been all star team where they look at portland. They see the other the other guy they see the other guy who's not available. He's not available and say we want that guy which to me makes it for very interesting situation. If the sixers can get a guard some other way just in theory if they can sign and trade for kyle lowry then make look at their okay. We've papered over one need. What if we keep simmons see how he functions in this ecosystem where we have a legit lead guard ups his trade value. See what happens in portland. See what other situation goes haywire around the league because something always goes haywire. Somewhere.

"We know. Because you know i don't care if he's injured. Teams will up to get. We saw kevin durant. If you're a top five six player teams are going to line up to get you. Even if you're gonna be out for the season maybe what do we know about koi. I've gotten no indication that collide leonard is interested in doing anything but resigning with the clippers. Rehabbing that injury And you and you talk to other teams agents. Who might be talking with the clippers. You know the way. They're proceeding certainly seems to be with. Coed leonard in mind and listen. You don't know until a player signs that contract that you just said it zach. This is the torn acl. And there's an expectation that he could miss next season. You tear a seal in the playoffs especially in in a season. We're pushed up against next season a month later. Like they can't assume he will be on the court next year so they've got to proceed accordingly here in free agency and the draft with their own players But i don't have any sense that he plans to do anything. But continue forward with paul george group. So if it's status quo in la with koyi and the current intel we have is going to be status quo with damian lillard in portland for a while. I don't think that deal. It's now that doesn't appear to be something that's happening this off season That leaves us with the other. Big name that we've got a mention that will absolutely be in played. This off season is already play right now. And that's ben simmons and philadelphia. Which is the other obvious. Beal team that. I mentioned This is a very complicated situation. His value i think is at an all time low after a just a really bad series against the atlanta where it looked like the free throws and everything was in his head he passed.

"Into the league. Soy on sensational player. Great shooter it's not just gonna be golden state if it ever happens i think there'll be so teams that try to get into this. You'll attic boston makes sense. Miami makes sense golden state philadelphia. We can go. We can go on and on we start with the warriors because you mentioned in the prior segment to me. If i'm washington. Unless i love james wiseman less i love him and that's a game changer. If i love him wiseman seven eh. good pick not a great pick fourteen and wiggins a like unless i love wise. That's not an incredible offer to me. If i'm the wizards i'm asking for warriors you gotta give me twenty twenty six unprotected and a swap and the warriors you know then you could flip like what are the other teams can offer right like tyler heroes value for miami. I think is a little over there. Encumbered with first round picks is boston can offer jaylen brown. I don't think so to me. There's not much point in giving up one star for another. If you're boston so you start to suss out. What is the marketplace going to look like. Golden state can reasonably look at it and say. Hey even if you don't love our offer go get something better. That's exactly right and with one year left on his deal. Bill has leveraged because the team trading forum wants to know that he wants to be there and plans to resign. But i also think because of the kind of player in person. Bradley beal is. I think there are teams. Who might not be glamour markets. Who would look and say if we win that we could sell bradley beal on winning in. Stay in a situation where we could be really good. That isn't an l. a. or new york or chicago. Boston miami so i do think his the teams out there. There'd be a wide pool. Everybody in the league would love to have bradley beal. Listen he's been very loyal to washington and he is legit. It's fake no wants to win. You know listen. There are some players who look for reasons to leave and some players who look for reasons of state. He has always been about finding reasons to want to stay there and certainly they can sign him to the supermax next season. There's a giant extension awaiting him. If he wants to do it. I think he is legitimately been torn and he's always been looking for reasons to stay there. He loves that organization. He loves that city But he wants to win and he's got to look at the landscape with that roster that team and how they can improve themselves Two way both of those things against each other. There's another bill to admit we're going to get to them. Second in a second with separate names but let's stop for a second. We do need to acknowledge. Leonard can hit free agency this off season. He did just tears. we don't know what he's going back. You could miss the whole season. We just need to acknowledge it. Is there any leonard leaving the clippers. Possibility what do.

"Not in the playoffs next year but can they get closer to compete for the plane turmeric and it just be a better product. And they've got to come out of this with a potential star nba player. That's been mobely three assuming that jaylen green cunningham go one two. And i don't see a scenario here where they're moving either garland or sexton for more like more pick. Arlington garland would shock me after the year. He had right like to get younger. I don't think they're looking to go get younger in a trade But listen there's going to. There's a lot of interest in getting up at the top of the draft. They don't know yet. What may be offered to them this week. The warriors are a much different place but the same mandate win right now. Steph curry proved to everybody. I have still an mvp caliber player. We got to win now. They have number seven. Courtesy of the timber. Wolves number fourteen a really young player in james. Wiseman we know that. They're looking around for veteran. Help using those two picks have they been able to find anything. It's hard to find someone who's both available and good enough to justify giving up two picks and you may not be in the lottery again for a long time with the talent they have. They been able to find anything. There's one player who i think reaches that criteria for the warriors whether it's weisman the seven fourteenth pick other assets. That's bradley beal who is not yet and may not be available prior to the draft or prior to this season. I don't sense that golden state Has has a great interest in being involved in the ben simmons talk certainly at the level of assets. It's gonna take to try to get that done. And so i think like a lot of the league. Golden state's gonna wait. See how it goes with bradley beal but short of bradley beal being available i expect golden state to draft their use. Those pictures seven and fourteen this week based on what we know right now. The likeliest scenario is that golden state makes pick seven and fourteen and russia's mit team. That's based on what we know right now at one. Thirty whatever eastern time. The bradley beal situation could similar one way or another. And that is what we will lead off next segment with coming up the biggest names.
