"I didn't see this story until this morning. And I found it during my before show show prep, which involves talking to Duane. And at that point, I just couldn't believe it. First of all, you got to know. You got to remember the cringe inducing video that vice president Kamala Harris for at least last week with the kids visiting her at the vice president's mansion. So let's play a couple of those clips. Cut number 7, Kamala Harris at the what is the naval observatory in the old days? It's now the vice president residents talking with 6 kids on the porch cut number 7. Do you have a link? Welcome. Thank you. The residents of the vice president. Here we are. Check it out. Okay, so it's kind of cringe inducing. And you think it sort of like a knockoff of the veep series starring Julia Louise Dreyfus. It got worse, by the way, second clip clip number 8. One of the things I most excited about. But the other, you guys are gonna see, you're gonna literally see the craters on the moon with your own eyes. When your own eyes are telling you, it is gonna be unbelievable. So that's one of the things we can do here too, which makes it. So that's okay. The beep doing deep things. From the Washington examiner. The first installment of vice president Kamala Harris's YouTube original space series featured child actors who addition for their roles in the project. So louise i don't know if you've got a chance to Check this out if If you've gotten your hand on a ps five. That's part of the other problem is that there's a ton of people that don't even have the ps five yet. Yes i'm lucky enough. I love my five. I got my time for review last year. And i think we have had really quiet year from sony. Really i mean we had ratching client which is magnificent. In terms of announcements meanwhile microsoft dropped up ee three with their twenty-seven new titles coming to him. You know that was. That was that he. Three showcase was unreal for microsoft and it was tumbleweeds from sony. So we absolutely needed what we saw there. Last week it was just i loved seeing more of go to war. Thelma and louise who decided to take a weekend trip to a mountain cabin to get away from their lives in small town. Arkansas where. Thelma is housewife married to a controlling loudly firmly abusive husband and louise as a waitress dating a musician. Who has never around off of the actor who plays Toba husband her ex. Yep from all of the Quentin tarantino movies. She recommended him. She was like. I say that as a positive. But we're talking about this a little more but his character wasn't like this likable. He seemed like the typical you. But at the same time he was still one of the more loyal. The it's interesting. I haven't thought about that and we're definitely going to get into it. Okay so thelma and louise stop at a bar on their way to their destination worth elma. Who's like so into this idea like i needed vacation. I wanna have fun. She dances with a very flirty stranger named harlem and later in the parking lot. Harlan kisses her and tries to take off her clothes her consent and when she resist he gets violent and attempts to rape her. The we's arrives with a gun and threatens to shoot him. He reluctantly releases thelma. As they're walking away he insults. Both of them says he should've raped thelma. Furious louis shoots and kills harlan and the pair flee the scene true yes also. I feel like i have a lot of behind. The scenes factual said like a so susan sarandon and made it clear. It was clear script as well that it was a very split-second decision on her character's part that it was like not premeditated but he just called her. This and it was like a lesson and it was just like final straw snaps which i find really interesting and acting is amazing this movie. Yeah okay so the pair go to a motel and they discuss what they should do about the situation and they discuss it on the car ride on the way. Thelma wants to go to the police. Louise disagrees thinking. No one will believe that. The man tried to rape thelma. No one will believe them. Especially after bar. Patrons saw thelma dancing and drinking with harlan. This man and that they would be charged with murder. Eventually they decide to go to mexico or at least to louise decides to go to mexico but she insists they do it without passing through texas so while on their way. They meet a handsome and often shirtless drifter jd. Played by brad pitt. And thelma quickly becomes smitten with him and persuades in begs lewis. Allow him to ride with them for a little. While louise contacts are boyfriend. You'd have to transfer her life savings to her but he surprised her by showing up and he proposes which she refuses. Because it's obvious that he's just scared that he's going to lose her right so therefore this is what he's doing must leaves with j. d. and finds out he's a thief who is breaking parole when the pair wake the following morning how they realized that. Jd who went to a whole thing about how he liked to rob people hasn't been all of louise's savings and is nowhere to be found. The leaving louise devastated and vilma incredibly guilty so she robs a convenience store with what she learned from. Jd she had to get a play by play on what he did. Edge decided. i know i'm going to do this. Yeah i mean that's so it's such a sweet inside seen especially if you know what happens. 'cause he's so happy because she got like good sex. I and you're like wait. He definitely robbed so. Fbi closes in on the following eyewitness accounts of their vehicle. They questioned the newly apprehended. Jd they questioned louise's boyfriend they'd tap the lineup films husband who hilariously and sadly enough to me. He's like she hangs up like now. There'd be tap because she knows right he wouldn't be nicer. The head investigator played by harvey. Keitel seems to understand their actions especially given the wheezes past. And it's kind of implied. I guess the story shifts but it's kind of important i. Louise was the mastermind buying the whole thing. And then it's like a weight almaz. The one stood up this place which is important to to the alternate ending or discuss later. But he is harvey guy tells. Character is unsuccessful in convincing.

The Inspiring Story of Margaret E. Knight

"So margaret louise night. She was a prolific american inventor of machines and mechanisms for a variety of industrial everyday purposes. Margaret was nicknamed maddie mit. She lived with her widowed mother and older brothers. Charlie and jim in a little house in york maine. she was born in eighteen. Thirty eight by the way so after her father passed away mattie had inherited his toolbox and she liked to think of things that could be made with these tools and she drew them in a little notebook that she labeled my inventions. Mattie demonstrated knack for tools and mentioned from an early age making toys kites sleds and household items in as little girl. She preferred to play with woodworking tools. Instead of dolls saying that quote the only thing she wanted whereas a jack knife gimblett and pieces of wood. She knew she wanted good for her so when she was eleven. Maddie's finley moved to manchester new hampshire to work in the textile mills there and so matty was going to continue going to school only going so far as a complete her elementary school education and she got to know the head engineer there while wandering around the grounds after school waiting for her family to be done with their like fourteen to eighteen hour shifts. Sure textile mills. Yeah including like her twelve year old brother and fourteen so at age twelve. She started working the mill herself and aloom ow function and injured a worker So it turns out that one of the leading causes of serious injuries at the mill that she had observed was the propensity of the steel-tipped flying shuttles so those were manipulated by workers to unite the left in the warp threads in their weaves. I'm so these shuttles would come free of their looms and they would like shoot off the machines high-velocity even at like the slightest employee error. So like there were people dying from this. There are people like you know basically like you're getting almost shot. Yeah basically tipped metal thing like flying off a machine you know so it was really dangerous and so matty what she did. She created a guard. That would stop the shuttle from coming off of the machine if it malfunctioned. So like the exact details of this device have kind of been lost to history but mentions of it came out throughout published stories of her work and her Mentions articles that will get into so again because this was the mid nineteenth century. And why would anybody document what they actually did anyway. So workman who installed these types of guards all the looms and all the males in manchester. So this sounds like a big deal. She clearly didn't make any money for sure. You know maybe save some lives so after she turned eighteen. Mattie left manchester for better opportunities She worked in several different factories on new england along with other short-term technical jobs too so that she could keep

"In the world that i love that. If you told me dryer's ago that's where you'll end up being your most comfortable. You're happiest and i would have would have a very big surprise express. It has been expressed so adopting your daughter and then the subsequent years of spending time there. Was that how you found hope north. Yes when i first went to ethiopia. That was the first time. I'd been to africa and i met my friend. I know that does go back to my daughter. Because i remember the person who introduced me to my friend. Okello that will mary. Louise has ties to africa. So i think that is how i ended up meeting him. A lot goes back to my daughter and it's interesting. We're talking about this time in history and how were examining things that we do that we thought and ways we've had of behaving or not aren't as useful anymore. And so many of those. I feel so grateful for and relieved about for my daughter's sake because i don't want her to go through some of the things that i went through and there are other things ways in which i worry because i have a son and their preconceptions that people have a handsome young white man. I don't know interesting time to have a lot of different conversations but both my kids are so passionate and they have traveled so much and they've been exposed to so many extremes. Okay so this is something that interests me unluck. I i think we all are on a journey to understand ourselves right and like no what our emotions have a tendency to do. And i'm so curious about how you figure out where you do want to open up you know. You're you wrote this book. Dear mr you and it's it's a direct address to men you know some real life and then some who are these fictional archetypes who've impacted you. It's so i felt so seen by it. And i imagine so many women who read it did and it feels so open and honest and i wonder how do you as mary. Louise figure out where you really wanna open up. And you know crack crack your chest for the world c. n. n. what ways you want to keep things on the inside. How do you make that determined that you understand that metaphor having seen the same thing i love. I think it's instinctual. You know i think In the same way that it's just more animals right and for whatever reason I'm showed up. You know. I think i know i know how to do that. Not so much on phil phillip on a stage like that. That's kind of mine. Even the worst even when i feel like i'm dying out there at night ever whatever the is it still feels like something i understand. That's primal. That's like ancient. That's got that sacred. And i love it. I mean feel that we about writing as well and writing. Sometimes i write things that are really can be quite bald. you know. And that's just how they fall out of me. There's a lot of. There's some stuff in my book. That's such violent. There's some of the Nc seventeen you know it just comes out like that and i love that process and i love that now and this'll be great for you in like seven years like once you're just like just past like forty three or something people treat you just a little bit different. I remember when i like. I had mike buck and i was going to..

The Three Most Important Charts in the Market

"We kick off a new trading month with the three most important charts in the market at least according to our traders. Let's get right to you. Then i up the iwan russell. Two thousand small-cap etf guy this is your chart. Tell us what it tells you about. The markets well. I'm not one to speak in platitudes. But i love these games at the beginning of months and i happen to think that the i. Wm is as an important to chart was. We're gonna look at you. Go back to last. September twenty twenty. The russell was explode into the upside is a matter of fact. I think it went from one. Forty five to two fifteen pretty much in a straight line but since january it's been going sideways in a very well defined range in a two ten to two thirty five and here. We are now the great louise yomata who is as you know. She's on the parthenon of great technicians. Out there she will say the longer in space the higher and outer space. And i think a lot bowls will believe that as well. It feels like it wants a breakouts. The upside i bring it up because as you know the most economically sensitive names believe it or not. Amc the top holding with half of one percent. Healthcare big component financials industrials and tech. But this has not validated the move and the snp five hundred the russell to break out sort of above two thirty five. Then it's off to the races and the s&p five hundred. That's why i find it to be the most important chart or one of the three. Considering that this is a quote that we often refer to on the show guy given by a person who we regard so highly as to put her on the pantheon of technical now analysts. It's amazing that you've got the quote wrong the longer the base the higher in space the long does exactly what i said higher in space. That's what you said. The thought is their thought. Is there what do you think about the wm. As as a chart that that could portend what what will happen in the markets so yeah. I like guys premise. And obviously i'd been in value. And i probably a little too deep in value to be honest because it did have a nice run.

"In every episode. I hand pick a different piece of short fiction. And i read it to the only thing. These stories have common is that i love them and i hope you will too well. Your own. today story is another one. That just hit me like a brick. If by the author. Louise urge who won the pulitzer prize for fiction earlier this year for her novel. The night is a member of the turtle mountain band and has written many novels as well as volumes of poetry children's books and a memoir of early motherhood. She also runs birchbark books. An independent bookstore in minnesota. Now much of louise's fiction including this short story considers and reflects aspects of her mixed heritage. Which is german. Through her father and french and ojibway through her mother. She's got a new novel out on november ninth called the sentence which can be preordered right now from the usual places including local independent bookstore. Don't forget our indie bookstores. It is appropriately enough a very funny ghost story set in india bookstore. So look forward to that now about the years of my birth which was first published in the new yorker our protagonist linda. Who was nicknamed tuffy as a child is someone i believed to have. Great inner strength and vulnerability all at once tuffy is a white child adopted by a native american family and the author has said that this kind of story was one. That was very familiar to her from history that of native people adopting non native people into their families and it was also informed by her own grandmother who adopted children. Who were in need. This story is sometimes very darkly funny and it made me think deeply about the nature of love and generosity. The root of the cruelties. That we can show one another and navigating all of those human impulses. Please check out the written content advisory if you're so inclined and if you're ready let's take a deep breath.

How Forgiveness Can Help Us Love Ourselves

"We hear over and over again how important it is to love ourselves. We are aware that love is the most powerful healing force. There is and yet no matter how hard we try to love ourselves. Many of us keep hitting a brick wall. Something is in the way. It seems impossible for us to break through. We begin to believe that we just can't love who we are that there must be something wrong with us or perhaps we're not worth loving this frustration and anger at our own inability to do what we know is so important to us can lead to depression. We can feel hopeless and yet there is an answer. There is something we can do to open the most stubborn doorway to love. We can forgive. Forgiveness opens the door way to love so that love may flow most abundantly in our life. I have noticed that when the door to love seems to be stuck it is usually because there is someone or something that we are unwilling to forgive. Yes it may be true that in the past we have had a very unpleasant experience and that is so unfortunate however it is not unforgivable. Forgiveness is a gift to ourselves for. It sets us free when we were fused to forgive. We sit in a prison of self righteous resentment and stay stuck in the past. This hurts only ourselves. The other person may not even know we are in pain. I know that you can heal your heart now and that you are worth loving

"George stevens film giant and it looks beautiful because really makes it look down. Does that weird thing of refuse to take him earlier in the film and they come across them again and she kind of looks at louis and she just starts doing that weird whimper like how i forgot about that. Yeah that was weird. Yeah i mean. I just to be funny but but then it also watching this time was like whoa men are the ones that are typically referred to being the hound dog dirty dog chasing after the opposite sex and here is a scene. Where thumbs physically doing that. Because she's she's begging her to pick up that hot dude by the side of the road by acting like a like a bold hound dog oh to go back to a saying about playing transformations dalma. She starts off cheap when they first take off she. She takes a cigarette which is not let and plays act that she's smoking a cigarette and look like i'm louise like she physically pretends to be louise so she pretends to be her and then the funny part is one. She has good sex and once she discovers. The jd has stolen her money. Factor factor over. Louise falls apart and it's almost like when a kid sees like mommy or daddy crying. They're like oh fuck like. I gotta fix this. You know what i mean. Yeah and that's what happened to shi over sudden door about it. I'm gonna fix it and she's the one yelling. Come on we gotta go and she told me totally switch roles was she takes control and takes rain because of what happened and when she sees louise lose it. She's like well. I have to step up. And she was drinking before that but then after that is when you see her drinking and she actually smokes okay but yeah and daddy terms of role playing. Jd pretends that he's pretending to be a college student needing a ride and then he tells dumb. There's one line that really stood out to me..

"Terminator two judgment day which ally okay. That was a big one yet at the big one. And this wasn't a big you know particularly big one but it still fit into a woman action lead. Diy shelf scheme with the kathleen. Turner film was that any good. I saw on. Vhs do not remember a single faculty that good that good but but whatever it is good or bad. Oh here's a funny one. Don't even my list. But i did see this. I actually put it in a paper. Did a paper for a class. Action class called feet. Female automatons in a sci fi film examined bladerunner metropolis. Cherry two thousand one. No melanie griffith cheapo like almost like the video kind of good low budget independent film of a future where most have robot girlfriends or wives and his his cherry two thousand breaks down but in order to get parts has to go into the wasteland and he has to get a guide that guide. Is melanie griffith. Weird he so that. And then the other film i included in in that paper was eve of destruction. Gregory hines film where there was the female robot that looked human. And i don't remember why. But for whatever reason she goes rogue and she has a nuclear weapon inside of her as most robots would sure most robots do. Yeah any case was in the water in nineteen ninety-one but i guess it was time for women that try and have their day of at least on the big screen. Wow that's really interesting yeah. I didn't even realize silence. Lamps came out if the same year until we started researching thelma and louise. Yeah when i love don's lambs it's great. That also had a tendency bursary cannot february fourteen. Okay there are a couple of notes ahead. Some some anecdotes. Behind the scene stuff that i thought was was interesting in when i various commentaries and the making of that was on the dvd. The car of course is very important there in that car for most of the film the nineteen sixty six cream thunderbird t-bird convertible yep. They had a bunch of those but one of them caught fire within the first couple of days of shooting. Three were actually thrown off the cliff. Okay apparently two of them and it's funny in the commentary. Serandon gena davis and kelly corey. They talk about it. The irish go. Oh yeah well those two. What the ridley sons So really scott sons. each got a ninety ninety-six t bird under this nice to be nice. Be one of his kids. Yeah the other thing. The other thing that that was very interesting in ties into the impact that the film had socially and culturally but sexual politics really scott. Apparently the earl gross can truck driver that they keep coming across the driving in that giant phallic symbol chrome tanker. Yes so his hat.

"They didn't change anything they just cut back. But so the zoom in the other time that the zoom in is used and it's also very important is at the end of the film when they decide. Let's just keep driving right right. Got fucking fbi helicopters. There's no way out of this. And they seventies fucking driver you sure. Yeah and they they have. It's that sequence shot beautifully. It's fucking great. Also the filming of that they did two takes they were losing the light and in the second take that he got and he's like okay. I think we got it. He said cut and gena davis. Susan serandon claims that the sun literally went out like it just like it turned a soon as they were done. Shooting that sequence. Wow like it was almost like it was meant to be so. It's pretty fucking great but that secret towards think okay. We're going to do this. And she. She gives that beautiful non sexual just like like last kiss of life to her friend before they're gonna drive off the cliff and when they grab each other's hand there's the zoom into the hands an interest zoom into the original colored that they took together which also shows how much they tricked movies when i get to themes and motifs. Transformation is a very big part of this film and you see that was supposed to be that first polar they take at the beginning of film which is used for the post deer and also the stuff for the marketing of the film. And you see a zoom in as you see that one photo fly out of the car. So there's actual. There is a piece of remnant of of the legend of them. Louise that that will stay with history in that photograph so uses zoom ins for important very subtle in psychological things like with the women but then for very important things at the very end of the film love. The zooming totally caught the end of the film. I did not catch the thing with the old woman. But yeah i i totally see what you're getting that with the at the end the thing is there's so much in this movie that i like and i mean it is a female but he wrote Does it has a very modern western. Feel in other. Two female desperadoes on the run to mexico and i also like it says important and relevant issues in modern feminist feminist perspective. But it never it never succumbs to being militant or diatribe whatsoever. It managed to keep a balance. It keeps an amazing balance between being serious and being funny and always being entertaining. Always looking gorgeous movie looks gorgeous and the editing is. There's there's a sequence. I love this. The editing sequence. The editing in his film is fucking spotter. as is the is the score. You gotta give a shout. Out the hans zimmer who has become one of my favorite guys. He's always the solid fucking work but he does early one biennium and it's great. This gordon did but going back to the editing. Tom noble at the film. And there's a sequence that i particularly like where following that sequence. I talked to a women and she throws lipstick way. And an dalma comes running like we asked the help because she's just fucking rob plays jumps in and just like what the fuck you do to the guy robinson on my god. She's a what you say. Well i just walked there. I said an bucket hard cut to harm you. Tell you know how. Slocum and daryl and steven. Toby hausky is max. The fbi guy. They're watching the surveillance footage right and dumb picks up from there. I was like that. That was great..

"And he's like i'm casting body double and she's like you don't need to do well hell no. I'll do it myself. Probably because she thought that brad pitt was pretty attractive. You know yeah why the hell not i saw the out takes stuff. That they didn't use crazy. I read something. I don't know if it's true or not but a read something really quickly. I think it was today. i came across. The outtakes of the sex scene. Apparently won some sort of soft porn prize. I don't know if not all right. We'll have to look into that. we'll add. it must be explored. Yeah we we need to know the truth behind that. But i think he's very good. He was perfect for the role. If you're going to have if you're gonna have the the loan drifter guy that dumb is gonna be into. He would have to be attractive. It's amazing in this film is it's nineteen ninety-one and at the end of the film. I wrote down somewhere but when the cops are chasing her the fbi you hear their date of birth and even the louise very much seems much older because she's very much at the outset of the film. It's very much a mother daughter relationship. Even though they're best friends with trying. Louise dhamma the only like a year apart the Watch at seems moved many times like i said cup. Four times at least in theater owned on laserdisc on dvd. Seen this movie many times but cut this time that it or its franken when jd asks her in the car at some point he's asking her how come you you know you're married. Have kids she. She mentioned that she she got married at eighteen and she had been dating darryl for four year right. So i'd like seventy something it's like. Oh yeah minimum is a fourteen and then we got married so not really an emotionally tapping You could see the why. She's not as developed in her personality. As maybe louise's she's been with darrell and she was fourteen. Yeah i gotta tell you their points in the movie where i would get genuinely mad at her because she just do something really dumb and then i would have to kind of remind myself wait. She's really sheltered. he's really sheltered. She's really naive. I mean i agree with you. Everything transpires in his film because because she does kinda stupid she she continually does stupid things or stupid naive make stupid and naive mistakes which propels them the plot the story forward but if she had she had not done if she did one less mistake nobody the the end result could have been different. Yeah yeah it was funny. Because i i kept going. It was really funny. I would get mad at her. And i kept remembered. I don't know if you've ever heard Sam raimi talk about making movies. No and he said you can't have a movie unless someone does something stupid..

These opportunities kind flooding in like partnership that is, it's a weird thing, but I remember a boss said to me years and years and years ago and and whenever you do those interviews and people go. What's one tip you'd say to someone? I always say it, which is things? Don't happen until you let go like even if you're thinking about leaving job, no one's going to offer you any additional work until because they think that you've got a job. You know the same thing with this until you commit to it and they go right. She's really GonNa do it. I. Love it that that happens to. People. Don't realize that they just see the loss of the job and they don't see how. It's opening up their world absolutely, and it's exactly what it did. It just opened up myself to have conversations with paypal that I wasn't able to have conversations. We've because you know. I was scared to open up these conversations when I was working in corporate. Because what if it deep blow up and what they was these huge opportunity and I didn't have the time and I still had two little kids working full time, and you know it's just that internal dialogue that you constantly constantly going through, but. I still say that was in October last year when when I resigned and. I'm still sitting here we. Still at one with my decision, friend in May, as having really amazing conversations with paypal where rebranding. We're doing all that stuff that I would never have been able to do. If I was still working corporate. Not at all! Talk to me about covert and the and the isolation, because obviously that would have well I assume that would have affected you because it's been going on for quite a while, but I'm thinking about the kids as well who have been stuck at home with with with that friends again like all kids. It's quite funny actually because. Amb what elise based on `isolation right so people run isolated and all of a sudden. We have old. Of isolated, we all fandango salves feeling like those little children. Do you wish stuck with the now full bowls? We can't go out. Out Our emotions a heightened. People that we want to say we can't pay for all of a sudden way feeling all of those feelings so when carbon happen first of all when it happened, we had a fourth major event coming up in March so. Just, before everything started going crazy I had to cancel out a vein. I was so sad because you spend the whole year working towards this might. And you know you're dealing with Simon and different people and we were I..
