Does Hard Work for a Given Community Pay Off in the End?

"How much does reality matter? Because you look at the four years of my old boss in The White House, president Trump, after if you look at lowest unemployment for blacks and Hispanics since record keeping began, you look at the first step act, the first serious prison Reform Act in years, if not decades, which should give him some credit with this population, but it seems nugatory. Yes, he got more votes, but does hard work for a given community actually pay off the dividends of popularity two or four years later. I would say absolutely, yes. Because failing to do that means you're guaranteed to not ever get any of those votes. You can't get votes from people if you don't show up and talk to them. I'll say this, even what you mentioned with president Trump, all right? If you all were consulting me three or four years ago. It's fine, you didn't. But if you were. Here's what I would say. As somebody who's lived in and around cities, my entire life, I would be more interested in hearing the Trump campaign tout the efforts of operation legend than the first step act. Okay, explain that. So I'm sure as you know in many of your listeners know, operation legend was a joint federal initiative, FBI, DoJ, ATF, that I believe it was a 9 cities, including Chicago, and I believe St. Louis and a number of other cities where, I mean, they were having issues with crime within the cities. It was named after legend, who I think was shot, not intentionally, but was the victim of a drive by shooting. And the purpose of it was to get guns off the street to get violent criminal suspects off the street. And I think over the course of 5, 6 months, there were over 450 homicide arrests. A number of arrests for illegal guns and those types of things that really impact communities on a granular level.

Delano Squires Describes Race Relations in America Today

"Show. He is a contributor for the blazes fearless with Jason whitlock. Welcome in studio Delano squires. Thank you for having me. Can we start you're an outspoken individual. Last time you were on remotely, we talked about an article you did the federalist. Let's just start with setting the scene. Where are race relations in America today? And how would you see their evolution compared to ten years ago, 5 years ago? Better worse. Where are we at? And what are the key drivers, Delano? I feel like they're worse than they were ten years ago to be completely honest. I think obviously the election of nation's first black president was a watershed moment that even many Republicans conservatives, this is a sign of progress for us as a nation. I mean, during the Obama presidency, there were issues that came up famously when the president said that the police in Boston were stupid. Yeah, I did stupidly or foolishly arresting professor Henry Louis Gates. That was an issue, his comments around Trevor Martin were an issue for conservatives. And then obviously with the election of president Trump, that through the question of race and racism, I mean, into overdrive. So then the left was saying that the things that the president said, whether it's about people from certain countries or about immigration and building a wall, those things were racist. So I feel like we teetered back and forth and now at a time where we should, in theory, before the down the road on race, I think it's even worse because one of the things that's happened is that this current president President Biden and left racialized issues that previously had not been

AG Merrick Garland Is Spineless

"Now, you could disagree with the federal statute, but there is a federal statute that prohibits the protests that we're seeing outside the house of the Supreme Court Justices. And you know something? Merrick Garland is spineless. Merrick Garland, I have to say, must want to encourage this unlawful behavior. How many people did you hear on the left, condemning buildings being burned to the ground? Because George Floyd died. How many people on MSNBC or CNN are from the Biden administration? Did you hear routinely condemn acts of violence? The police who were assaulted, people who were killed, remember the retired cop in St. Louis, shot dead trying to protect his buddy's business from being burned to the ground. This shot dead right in the street. Who got who's held accountable for that? They ever catch that person? That person ever been prosecuted? Now, I guarantee every last one of them of January 6th to be in prosecuted. How about the person who murdered Dorne in St. Louis? This is we are in a dangerous time. The Democrats are dangerous. And when they're trying to blame us for the buffalo supermarket, all they're trying to do is project what they themselves are guilty of. They're just deflecting their own guilt. They are openly at tell me where I'm wrong.

"Needs a safety car to be recovered and I lose my ten second leader or whatever. It's exciting, you know, the restart is fantastic and I would do that every single time honestly. And yeah, the potential to be a professional, I think, is also greater in the states as a driver. There are more roles, not necessarily just in factory roles, I think the pro am landscape is pretty strong. Not just in imsa but across a lot of other categories as well. I think there's a decent amount of people earning earning money even in GT four, you know, you just don't get that as far as I'm aware anyway in England in Europe. Where you have a pro driver who's actually earning some cash, you know, it's far between bars and the states. It's pretty strong. Yeah, it's nice to hear a young drive with such a firm plan. Sometimes we speak to people at this time in the going, I don't know what I'm going to do next year and it can be quite difficult, not necessarily 34 of their own, of course, but yeah, it's nice to hear that Louis got such a good pass. Louis, shorter term, what are you doing between now and the 19th of December, you're carrying on studies when do you get to have a break from studying and testing and driving? Do you get to relax at all? Well, luckily, you've come at the right time because it's Thanksgiving break now actually. So all of the American colleagues have gone back home to their wherever they're from and wherever. So my roommates come back to Seattle he's not here. There's no class. So I'm just milling about doing whatever with other international students also and celebrate Thanksgiving because they're not American. So yeah, I'm just this week I've got off and then yeah it starts busying up again kind of like two weeks or so. I've got more testing than I've got finals. And then I come back at the end of my finals week to the oldest world award. And then I'm only in the UK for a few weeks and then I go back to America again. Yeah, it's kind of full on, but it's not too bad. I'm not like absolutely loaded with stuff. This is obviously the one off season part, but as Alex knows, there really isn't an off season. It's just the off season is cardio season. So it's not too much fun. Well hopefully you'll have you'll have the chance to at least open a beer at some point, maybe chill for a little while. 21 here, I can't. But you have to have that when you fly back then. Well, Louis foster, thank you very much for your time and join us. Alexander Sims, thank you as well. And thank you for tuning in at the listener and the old school. "The doctor of who rose to fame. Because he's the go-to injector of the kardashian. Sisters at some point. Yeah dr simon orian. He congratulated jeff bezos on his spaceflight and very quickly that was interpreted by twitter as jeff bezos went and got his filler done before his base. Just funny to think that jeff basis goes to the kardashians cosmetic dermatologists. This goes to show filler. Knows no gender no color no creed religion. I would never accuse filler. Discriminating and who it appeals. To say i think that the spaceflight thing is so disgusting. Hate it. I hate. I know. we're not even we're going to edit by omission about that whatever and so. I think that's all we have for news of the week. Let's just get into our interview so today's guest is someone who i've been following on instagram and twitter for a couple years and i'm always chuckling to myself at my phone. His name is louis pisano and he is an american who lives in paris a real life. Emily in paris on might say. He is a writer for harper's bazaar and sort of cultural commentator. He keeps the fashion industry on. Its toes is the way i'll put it. I think he has such an incisive tone and ability to kind of cut through the bullshit the fashion industry while also like celebrating and acknowledging the fun stuff the glamour the glitz he just went to can as a guest of instagram capital. I instagram and he looked at the best fucking time in the world. He wore some insane. Looks which will let him talk about. But he's also not afraid to like talk a little shit about racism in the industry and discrimination and the inequitable treatment of black and brown influencers which is prevalent. Of course the united states but also very much so in europe so we wanted to hear from louis just about louis. And here's our interview louis bassano. So when did you get back from. Can i got back. "Different games and different experiences that you remember and some of the best ones. I think that we've created, you know from the very beginning was the the development, you know, yep. And the passion that Hooligans brought and I don't know that there's a lot of sports, you know, sporting events and venues you can go to where you experienced that kind of passion and that group so it's it's brought a lot of different I would say experiences and a lot of fun and uh, I don't regret any wage even explain to people who don't understand if you don't mind because you know, it's it's part of what's happening and I think that even if fans and in the short-term, maybe that have enjoyed going to games or have enjoyed the club, you know, we'll miss that what we're all missing Sports obviously right now explain for those of us, maybe who don't understand Jim the way that things are structured what is happening why it's happening and eventually what it's going to mean over the next couple of years is the group involved with Saint Louis City continues to move forward. Yeah the you know, so there's no There's a there's lot of things going on and I think the sport of soccer football globally referenced of of European perspective, but it's evolving and it continues to grow and there's a and winners growth in anything. I would say, there's unknowns of of how that's gonna work in right now. I would say if you look at it, you know, st. Louis has been a bit of a I would say one of the early adopters and the leader leaders in soccer in the United States. When you look at Saint Louis University in st. Louis Stars, you look up the stationers a number of things that have gone on that Saint Louis has played a big role a number of coaches and people that have played for the eight of us, you know, World Cup team Harry Keogh, you know was my soccer coach at Saint Louis University and a big part of a World Cup team that beat England in the nineteen fifties. So a lot of history that that goes way back with soccer and then you kind of move through that and as I mentioned some of the things that have happened relative or national soccer here in st. Louis and indy the evolution of soccer and the development of soccer in the United States, which which also includes, you know, which is indoor soccer wage. Is very large at one point very large here in st. Louis. Then you had the the the Genesis and building of MLS and MLS continue to build over the last twenty twenty-five thirty years into what it is today. And you have u s l that has continued to build another league. So you bring all that together. You've got a lot of growth and you know, when we myself and Tom Strunk got involved with Saint Louis Scott Gallagher, we we just wanted to basically give back to Black sport and a game that was very influential to us and the development our development and give back to the kids in the community and through that process. We ended up bringing in a building st. Louis FC which was and professional team here in st. Louis. We didn't have any grand plan that that was going to evolve into an MLs Club, but I believe it was very strategic and bringing visibility into where soccer is going..

"Louis replaced his girl singer at the time Willie, an carol with the person who would probably become his The person who was most closely connected to him in history who is Keely Smith Do you guys know who Kelly Smith is? You too have you seen her before? No bite okay. So if you have a chance, you have to watch some video of Louis Prima and Kelly Smith. The thing that made it work is that killed Smith is a very almost looks like Wednesday addams she had a very like. short haircut. Very. Sort of STOIC look to her she barely moved when she was on stage they were total opposites. He would jump around the stage, hit an overly expressive face, his voice again, his his sound was kind of all over the place he would. Marble his words and so on. Kili just stayed completely still most the time had a stoic look on her face and has a beautiful voice and it just worked the juxtaposition worked so well in their vocals and on and their on stage presence and. and. The two of them and. And Sambu Tara. were, who was the saxophone player and sort of his bandleader. The three of them were kind of the glue and just dynamic in their performances both on albums and on stage. So in one, thousand, nine, hundred, eighty, two prima divorced trae, Saline Barrett, and Lady, and married Keely Smith. How. They were married. Yeah. They were married. They had a child. At this time also Prima Louis Prima and Keely Smith recorded old black magic which earned them a grammy for best performance by a vocal group or chorus at the first Grammy Awards No. I'm saying. And they also appear together in the film. Hey, boy hey, girl which saw so a good song. A So. They had a lot of success. Frank Sinatra asked him to perform at the inauguration of JFK in sixty one. which was great year he was traveling lot shortly after that he and Smith divorced onstage and off stage. And he replaced her in nineteen, sixty, two with GM. And Guess. Who He later married. So. What are we on five year? We're on five we're at five and I will say we are on the the last. The last wife. They. Two Children Louis his only son Louis, Prima Junior, as well as Leena Prima who are both musicians. In one, thousand, nine, hundred, sixty, seven. Louis. Prima. This is what most people know him from lent ended the role of King Louis in the jungle book performing the famous I wanna be like you. If you have a chance, you should also watch the videos of him and his band performing they have you know back then they would record the people who were doing the voices to see if get anything out of them. He is King Louis jumping around this stage he is King Louis so they used a lot of his persona and personality in that character he went onto record albums with with Disney both this he did to jungle book albums and he also did an album four Robin Hood I think is called make way for Robin Hood. I forget but he did a couple of. Actually he did a a bunch of albums with bonus of his records for. which is which is Disney. Obviously you. I'm watching I'm watching videos of Lebron Smith and IT'S Phenomenal, the way even with the sound off. So they're singing like they're obviously do other cigarettes close together and then they rub their noses together..

Louis Kotov Louis Gone Live, Salei the King of France between sixteen, thirty, eight and Seventeen fifteen. This is the guy who's most well known for absolutism for founding the old principles of the unseen regime, the divine right of kings he ruled for seventy two years in one hundred and ten days, which makes him the longest reigning sovereign in European history, and he got to the throne at five years. Old Story of Louis is mostly. Quite pleasant, he did take over at a very young age, and had Cardinal Mazarin and his mother, and of Australia rule for him as regents when he was a little child, but at twenty three he took control and man, he take control. He centralized the French state. He tried to eliminate feudalism completely. He built palaces like Versailles and retreats like me and they're still there for you. You to see, and they are own inspiring. He managed to survive fron rebellion when he was a child, and that informed him in a very direct way about his hatred of Paris, he tried to uniformly gathered the French Catholic Church as a kind of religion for everybody and revoked the Edict of Nantes which abolished the rights of huguenots. He had brilliant people living during his lifetime. And France became the leading European pie he's involved in a number of major was and most of the time when he wasn't will, he was planning the next will. But win new. He died at an advanced age. He died leaving France in an absolutely incredible position didn't last long, though because the seeds for the revolution had been son. Antony measure is here with talking about King Louis the fourteenth and you know about this guy. Right this I do and Napoleon sit. There was anyone king. Map is leave. The fourteenth and an opponent said that about any king because he hated the bogans. You hate them, and this is the guy who really gave that surname wait. Exactly, he grew up under the famous king. Louis the thirteenth who will probably from the three musketeers. And his mother was of Australia. Apparently very beautiful, very vivacious and quite power hungry woman. His father died when he was four or five, so he didn't really have a lot of time to get to know his dad and his dad tried to make. A rule that there would be a regency council, so he wouldn't just hand part it. His wife King Louis the fourteenth. She just overturned. The will she was that path made a self. Head of the councilman hired a bunch of people mostly from the church because she was very religious. To help run things until he was twenty three. I think that's been caught on. God Yes, so that's been Louis took over. That's ran Danny Lynch. Match up until that point. When people came to the court when he was young when he's a ten years old, impeccable manners so well brought up, there was same priest by him a radio, very young age that is such an interesting thing to bring up at the beginning, because that was really the hallmark of his age, he made France the center of Manas of etiquette of respectability of art of culture of language of performance, and his whole life was a performance from the moment he was born until the day he died, he was putting on a show of. Of what he thought kingship should be and everything he built, was there to enhance his kingship, and his glory war was for him just an instrument, and ons his glory, and he lived eight breathed and slipped kingship. He was famously quoted. Perhaps Apocryphal saying Litas Wa which means I, am the state. And he believed that and lived publicly Oh everything. Everything woke up in the morning. There were people around him direct. When he went to sleep at night, there were people around him when he had sex with his wife. There were people around wrecked when his children were born. There were people around him. There was no such thing as privacy. He was the first Kardashian. It's very much. except I think he had slightly better, manage them the actions, but when he was very very young, their rebellion that you talked about a little bit earlier witnessed it. You're the front. They mooted Henry, the fourth and Henry the third. and the billion founded immune is bad, and that just left it when he was a little child, and apparently this mob of Parisian's broke into the palace. They found him sleeping. He pretended to be asleep because he never forgot about. And then they looked at this child, and so we kind moated this kid they lift, but he never forgot and as a result, he never wanted to live in Paris exhibited it. Went to gave the Louvre away and turned it into a museum. That's why it's a museum today because they used to live there, and he said I don't WanNa live in the face with his mad Parisian mob, maybe saw the revolution fair enough because it wasn't long often rain. And he went and built Versailles, which used to be a hunting lodge for his father, and it was a small. You know very pretty, but not particularly grand`place, and he turned it into this absolute monstrosity, and I mean monstrosity in terms of size because it was beautiful from into end. The Biggest Palace in Europe with gardens that I don't think anyone has ever been able to rival, he had complete command. He wanted to rule of a nature and buildings. He was obsessed with architecture. He's obsessed with plants. He was obsessed with water. He loved fountains and he would walk through the gardens of SL the whole time and they'd switch on fountains as he walked because they didn't have enough pressure. Make all the fountains good. Once a he always thought everything was working at once little did he know that they were actually as he moved, there were people shouting at each other in the Bushes Sing Tao now. Turned it on and move postulates which it often go to the next one, but you know that everybody wanted to be like him so even jolly monarch Charles a second and Catherine the great and I mean they wanted to make court slack resign. Ludwik of Bavaria was so obsessed with King Louis the fourteenth that he built palaces all over noise. Von Stein Castle built. Hang him share which he also built in replication, really of a small version of Versailles, but that place was just absolutely astonishing that anyone could pull off something of that magnitude, those rooms which are painted by Lebron and have guilt everything marble floors, fireplaces. The Hall of mirrors you know mirrors were really hard to make in those days and really expensive. Expensive and no expense was sped. He wants advice I to be the jewel, but united something interesting in terms of what we do, we make shelters, and that people talk about this being the start of wish, shatters have come from because he had shatters inva-. Yeah, and he still see them even in the hall of Mirrors and he would open the Chattan peek through there because there was lots of beautiful women that used to pay in the little that you fan. And, I used to bathe in that, but he says that he was more concerned of the cards, not concentrate on guarding, but looking at the woman. Would Pekan them invest them, but also many of the fortresses he built around northern France and northern. An and Francis were still using the second world. War Yeah, said says you what he did, and also the other thing from Louis. Let's be frank. You wanted to take over the world. Lonzo he was definitely one of those. Well, he did take over Spain effectively he put his own family and control of Spain, and he eclipsed the holy Roman Empire. From the point of view of being the most powerful Empire in Europe, and made a difference, and.

"Louis using the ground zero there's about this the go I don't know how far we can go on the one seventy a hundred years maybe more let's go melania sightings of unknown things in the sky go to your Bible I mean go beyond the Bible go to the modern era that's that K. the monitor the contemporary would probably be nineteen forty seven just after World War two after World War two flying saucers were part of our culture and from then on there were sightings in crashes and reports of aliens an alien abductions and Calamy relations and all that stuff and so what happens we have project grudge that's created short lived project by the U. S. Air Force to invest the I identified flying objects and then of course we have projects sign and then came project blue book I don't like you but I'm a big fan of this TV show it's on history channel right now I just saw the episode this morning I woke up and see it because it was in my queue to watch and I'm really enjoying every it's fictitious right in a lot of people say I there's nothing about it it's real but it's based on true stories it's just not with the details of your ninety by the details the details are kind of sketchy here see that's the thing what it demonstrates to you about is that siding after siding after citing was met with the Nile Roswell was a plane crash but it was a balloon thing that it was dummies being thrown out of a plane that's a and the thing is is that if if the Roswell story was just one thing why did take the Air Force to actually we right six times the explanation for Roswell I love you know this but they they did it six times on the anniversary the fiftieth anniversary the Roswell crash they came out with a case closed story big case closed door that didn't match match up didn't measure up I talked to the mayor of Roswell and then he and I were discussing it saying that nothing about it was factual but see this is where we have a problem because there's facts about Roswell but there's folklore about Roswell there's facts about kicks Bergen folklore about K. expert you know there's Betty and Barney hill all the stores and the people who don't know anything about you follow G. what I'm saying to them is all Chinese say so the fact is we have facts that are buried in the mythologies and what needs to be done again I mean after so many years we have to go back we have to revisit the timelines revisit the histories and the reason why is because you're in a fit of deja vu at another mind bending time warp paradox we have the military now that's interested in telling us released giving us some information about UFO sightings and again it's it's damn ominous thank you kindly honest conclusions when you see the pardon fence and the military revise our position that revised again revised it's just like what happened was Roswell I mean they don't know what they're dealing with obviously I mean to me eight it's the official wording from how their policy is that this is this is the official wording from the military quote there have been a number of reports of unauthorized and or unidentified aircraft and ring various military controlled ranges and designated spaces in recent years for safety and security concerns the navy and the U. S. Air Force takes these reports very seriously investigate each and every report as part of this effort the navy is updating and formalizing the process by which reports of any such suspected incursions and they use the word encouraging which is like invasions or or invading your space is it is a here to say that as part of a separate the navy is updating and formalizing a process by which reports of any such suspected incursions can be made to the car dissident sorties a new message to the fleet but will detail the steps for reporting is a draft meaning that the navy is endorsing the idea they did say was are seeing alien spacecraft what it is doing is it say okay Lainey of strange things have been reported a lot of credible and highly trained military personnel are seeing these things they need to be documentary courted they need to be you don't scrutinized and studied at bandit bear kooky and stupid and and strange and science fiction we'll just write him off as nonsense so you know it's all about now what they said it's all about safety S. security concerns okay they're going to investigate every report but they're not going to say they were investigating the aliens good idea it looks like it would be irresponsible for them to say all these are all aliens we don't know what they are the military's expressed that they are not endorsing the idea of UFOs being alien spacecraft there's no real way to distinctly classify something like a UFO in such a way so it gets reported that his investigation and then there's a level that of top secret but then things interesting about the whole secrecy paying is that after so many years the secrecy just kind of wears off and we have the classifications of stories and that is happening to U. K. recently United Kingdom just released a lot of their you a full reports the ministry of defense is now disclosing a lot of you oppose of once again part of the drip drip drip of disclosure but this time.

"Of the French Revolution King. Louis Sixteenth was indicted for high treason and crimes. On this day. In seventeen eighteen ninety. Two demand would become France's final king before the French Revolution was born. August twenty third seventeen fifty four as Louis August. He was his parents seventh seventh pregnancy but the first child to survive to adulthood Louis August was born during the reign of his grandfather. Louis the fifteenth who has also known as Louis the beloved and ruled France for nearly six decades. Now Louis the fifteenth Louis the sixteenth predecessor died of smallpox in May of seventeen seventy four normally. Louis augusts father would have assumed the throne throne but he had died of tuberculosis nine years earlier. So in seventeen seventy four Louis August became Louis Sixteenth King of France. I know it's a lot of Louis Louis but we can keep track now. Louis Sixteenth was nineteen years old at the time and he was already married to Marie Antoinette of Austria they'd been married for about four years of that point Louis the sixteenth eighteenth. We'll just call him. Louis from now on Louis started his reign with an eye towards values. That came out of the era of enlightenment. Greater freedom of the press religious tolerance and scientific inquiry among among other endeavors eliminating certain land taxes increasing acceptance of non-catholic Christians abolishing serfdom supporting the American revolution and even deregulating leading grain markets. These were all undertaken by Louis Summer resisted and shot down by nobility while other reforms were successful it says last two though that would prove to be pivotal title deregulation of Grain Markets in France led to wild fluctuations in price. The common people struggle to afford bread or even the grain to make their own and a number of riots broke out in seventeen seventy five. That was a series of events often called the bread war and supporting the American revolution. The following year put France into serious debt and the ensuing financial crisis prices was compounded by a Byzantine system of taxation the next decade saw an erosion of the monarchy's credibility and people came to view. Louis and his wife Marie Antoinette figures of not just an outdated system of governance but one ignorant to the plight of the common people violence civil unrest and political turmoil became more prevalent and Louis became increasingly irrelevant when it came aimed actual governance and gained a reputation for being indecisive unskilled political maneuvering and just generally being out of touch with the realities of the day and the need for policy compromise so in July fourteenth seventeen eighty-nine a group of revolutionaries stormed the steel. which is a political prison Paris though it only held seven prisoners at the time the best deal was viewed as symbolic of the monarchy's rule? Now here's a side note. You may hear that Lewis Journal for that day. July fourteenth seventeen eighty-nine held it only a single word. Nothing which a lot of people say signifies how out of touch was that Journal was actually just hunting journal or hunting log. So it's not really indicative Louis head was at and anyway at the time Louis was at the palace oversight outside of Paris and he only learned of the storming of the best deal following morning to following these events. Lewis forced to to accept the dissolution of the monarchy as it existed and a constitutional monarchy was established but after a failed assassination attempt on Marie Antoinette. Louis and his family relocated the from outside of the city to the tweet palace which is right in the heart of the city and the intent. There was to be closer to the people now. In Seventeen Ninety one Louis tried to secretly flee the city in response to what he considered indignities and restraints placed upon him and his family by the constitutional government. He was being treated. He felt away. A monarch should never be treated on his way out of town though Louis left behind a political manifesto which outlined his dissatisfaction with the constitutional system. He considered it illegitimate legitimate. This manifesto was published in newspapers. Though making his true feelings public and just four days after leaving Paris Louis and his family were identified. He was recognized because his face was on the national currency and he was arrested and returned to Paris at this point Louis lost all credibility even with those who had stood by him and he was viewed as more loyal oil to foreign governments rather than to his own people late about summer on August tenth of Seventeen. Ninety to the people of Paris had had enough a group marched on the tuileries palace. The royal family again fled taking shelter with the Legislative Assembly. Louis the sixteenth was found and arrested a few days later and eventually taken to the Parisian prison the known as the temple while he was imprisoned there the government officially abolished the Constitutional Monarchy declared a republic and stripped Louis of all his titles and honours discuss so.

"The. Is that game misconduct podcast with Don league-record and welcome to the Wednesday. They should have game as conduct. I'm down the Greco. Thanks for the day off yesterday had some things going on. But there's still lots to discuss and talk about the last night's games. But of course, the big story of the Saint Louis blues blues have gone from last place. Now, not just a playoff team. But a team that now can find themselves maybe getting home ice advantage in the first round of the playoffs. They win in overtime. Over the Toronto Maple Leafs last night three to franchise record twelve consecutive win. They had won eleven straight or excuse me eleven th straight win. They had one ten in a row in two thousand one two thousand two so a franchise record eleven consecutive wins. And now they're in third place in the central division. They're just six points back of Nashville, but with three games in hand on the predators. So the blues it's really a tremendous story. They had a shutout streak of two hundred thirty three minutes and fifty seconds snapped in the third period when Toronto score two goals and thirty one seconds to tie it. But they win the game at overtime. Saint Louis Tarasenko is now showing up the Bennington story between the pipes has been great. But even Allen has played well when he has gotten his chance to play shutting out Minnesota over the weekend. Shannon's played, well, there's just so many players right now that have stepped up for the Saint Louis blues. It is quite the story and this winning streak just keeps going now. They're a playoff team in in a wide open Western Conference, why not Saint Louis? I mean, the team has never been to a Stanley Cup final since their expansion runs back when they first came into the league going to the Stanley Cup final in in sixty eight sixty nine and seventy now they've got a chance to maybe do it in what I think is a wide open Western Conference. Do I think they're Nashville? Do I think they're Winnipeg? Maybe if they continue to play the way, they're playing me. And why not I I think the sky's the limit for this team. And it really just gives a lot of faith. I think two teams out there that are on the outside. Looking like if you're Florida if. You're the Rangers. If you're Philadelphia and you look at yourself and your your nine ten eleven points out of a playoff spot, and you think are the season's over. But hey, got twenty three twenty four games left. Maybe you rattle off eleven straight wins. And find yourself the next thing Louis Blues. I mean that that's the kind of faith that you have especially in the Western Conference where you can make some big time moves so right now, if you're Anaheim if you're Edmonton, and you're kind of sinking a little bit. But maybe you find a groove certainly some of those teams have talent certainly are in a position that Saint Louis was any rattle off six seven eight nine ten wins in a row next thing. You know, you can find yourself with a playoff so you can have faith. And of course, we're getting closer to the deadline. Looks like Duchenne is going to go looks like penins gonna go very interesting situation. Montreal last night, which on Twitter, rela Canadians the three two win over the blue jackets, obviously hurting Carolina's chances of trying to win that division. Catch. The islanders released got home ice by finishing in second the metropolitan division and Panara scratch because he's. Hill. So everybody speculates the penins gonna get traded..

"He's he's working on his Louis C K level that he was on. And then like halfway through. It's like just quits. It's like he just decides fuck everything I'm going to say offensive stereotype based not funny. Get off my lawn comedy as not even is not even. Polished zaidan. It's weird. And it's it's just how about don't, you You know? know? Why weird? Agreed. I mean, I think in in some ways he has to he doesn't seem to be considering this a PR exercise. He seems about it sort of just reinvigorating his career in the perception of this is really bad. This is it I honestly when I say I want to forgive him. I he just hasn't given me the basis to justify yet. And these kinds of shows where he just shows up. And he does these things it it doesn't. I if I were his PR adviser. I would say don't do that. Because it looks like you haven't learned your lesson. You've hit on the head. He just doesn't these not doing that? He doesn't care. He's not. He's it's a we're in it's disappointing. But I think he must think there might be a certain part of him. That's like well. And here's the fact about Louis CK. He's always had those fans, you know, he's always had a bit of crossover with the with the, you know, the idiots who think it's funny to be offense. Always said these words that are offensive, and that's awesome on opus. And Andy wasn't he though in opioid? Yeah. Opening Opie and Anthony, I think yeah. That was the the racist TV show back or radio show back from the nineteen thirties. Amos, and Andy or something I think confusing it I knew. Yeah. And it's like he's always had a segment of Ozzy his audience that is that. And he may be already. Yeah. I don't know if it's conscious or not. But like, maybe he's going to be like, well, here's what I can get away with I can do this. And not I I think he's right now, my guess is that he thinks he doesn't or doesn't need to or doesn't want to or we'll never put in the work. And so he's just moving on. It's like all right. Well, then to the people are saying wins it going to be enough. When are you gonna move on Thomas from what he did? Well, he did never did anything. He didn't you know? He didn't try. So never would be the answer for me. So that's my final word any an closing dots. I need some help because I'm not Marica. So I know him, but I don't know his name. I think it's Michael he's one of he's the black news reporter on the L day. Yes. Michael J? Thank you. I watched his stand up the other night. It's New Year's like what are you doing New Year's? I don't think I've seen standups great for like New Year's day eve for you have to go to work the next day or Newsday night anyway. So I knew of him, but I didn't connect some of the controversies he's been involved in because of things he said in his comedy. This is watching his comedy because I recognize him from L, and I also wanted I also tried to make an effort to I'm not making an effort. I'm just seeking out people of color and women comedians because on Netflix, it's actually really easy in commercial media. It's not and there's so much enjoyable comedy that be from a different perspective. So it's new and fresh, and so I've been really open to hearing from a lot of different comedians lately. But in his set, he talks about learning and having dialogues and being open being honest, and he talked about when he he messed up sounds like about a couple times from. In his in his standup. But one of the one I'm thinking of in particular is adding an interview how would he feel his son was gay and his sponsors? He's I answered honestly because the world's really homophobic, and it's hard..

"I can't watch him talk about how it's difficult to have normal conversation with a woman in not wanna rapper hair around his penis and jerk off to it. Now. Like that joke is forever now put in the context of what he's done. He's never apologized to us. And I think that's actually part of it. Because this is like I said when it comes to a fandom there is a relationship between the artist and the fans, and he didn't just betray those women, of course, he did. But for those of us like you and me who really believe that. He got it and believe the image of himself a guy who actively is involved in life of his daughters who loves his daughters wants to be a father wants to spend time with them. Even though he's divorced set up his life. So we can be with his daughters and bring them to work in involvement is life, and we had that image of Louis and arc his jokes. For us. Are always textual is in that context. So when he blew up that image he ruined himself for us and he disappointed us as well. And he hasn't quite acknowledged. I don't think how much of an emotional betrayal. His actions were to people who admired him, totally agree. Well, put. Forgive him. I want. Yeah. And two along the lines the examples of what you're talking about two so hard because so much of his art is still so good to me like the show Louis is legitimately one of my favorite shows of all time. And it's not even just comedy. It's actually less comedy than just interesting and kind of dark scenarios that make you think there was one, you know, this is this is largely in eighth ius show. He had one if you've never seen it. It's forever taken away from me as something I can be like watch this. If you're an atheist because it's so interesting and moving and funny and dark he had an episode where it was him as a child so his child actor, you know, doing it in and it was two kids, and they're going to, you know, maybe this is part..

"And then it's like, yeah. The doctors dodger says I. Yeah. I need to is my knee now or something's I okay. How long do I do that? Until it's better. Now, it's forever. You just do that. Now, it's just like that. Like, it's that kind of humor to say. I just bring it up because it's it's not the case that like he was always this offensive shock, jock, whatever. And that's why it was funny, and you're a hypocritic now, you don't like that his target was transpeople or whatever. It's like, no. That's not at all for me. Anyway, what what it was what I thought about myself is that I I realized very recently because I've been watching more stand up comedy because I've net flex is that I prefer comedians who tell stories I don't like the punchline Saddam here sign it really boring and a good story can be funny. But also just be a good story. Yeah. I totally agree with that. And it's so he could do that. I think. Yeah. And so I wanted to talk to you about what you thought of I guess the the article and kind of resetting. Back to twenty seventeen little bit the article in how he dealt with it. And how he I I mean, given if you were Plum plop, down in two thousand seventeen with Louis CK's past you know, like how would you try to deal with that or how could one or can you do you just quit life? I don't know. Yeah. I may I still think that the gold standard is the Dan Harmon admission you recently talked about on this show. So I think we can probably have people just refer back of couple episodes when you talked about that. But yeah, sorry. And so in terms of owning what you didn't understand what was important about. The Dan Harmon discussion was one he owned what he did. He also owned the pain that he caused the person and the pain he caused people around him because he was sort of like pursuing this thing in not being not criticizing himself, not looking at himself, and then owning those failings and what he did wrong. And just saying, I'm I'm so sorry, and I've learned so much from what I've done wrong that I will definitely not be doing it again and his career is gone on. He's got like a contract with the whatever the Cartoon Network or at Evers in the state. So I do think it's it's definitely possible. But with Louis he just if felt initially with. The metoo movement. I think it was mostly almost like PR companies were advising guys what to say without really understanding what the audience or what the public needed anymore. So like Spacey own also, I'm gay come do seriously. And then Louis CK's mostly talking about himself and other people too. And I think his head. He said his apology and now he can just get on with it. And there's a disconnect because part of his audience is saying, yeah, come back Louis. We miss you and society at large is like, isn't that the guy who took a stick out in front of women? He had power over..

"Christy winters. Welcome back to the show. It's so good to be on. Thank you for the invite. It's always so nice to talk with you. Absolutely. Is my pleasure. I'm so glad you're here. Thanks for taking the time. This is this is a tough one. I know that we've kind of referenced Louis CK in the past. And when this latest recording came out, it's just this is one of those topics that I just I can't help but think about and try to work my way through and I was thinking all do some monologue ING about and I thought what's it'd be better than that as having Christiaan some smart person to sound off with and maybe kinda check back and forth and see see how we feel. So I'm really glad you're here. I put myself through the through the pain of listening, the whole set, the actually I didn't I didn't even know. I was going to do that. I just kind of at the last second. I was like, you know, I guess I'll see what else is there. Maybe if there's there's anything that would explain or justify kind. The leaked bits. But just to reset slightly. I guess there was a Louis C K kind of leaked audio recording of a set. He's working on now and to one one a half or two minutes leak that was really incredibly boring. Offensive anti trans stuff like circa twenty ten jokes about identifying whatever. N? It's so tired and unfunny like is not even a creative right wing offensive that stick, you know, it's it's really not what I would ever have expected from Louis before. But you know, now, obviously he's in a different different situation. But so that kind of leaked and it was he's bashing. He can listen recording. If you want, obviously, if people don't want to really shouldn't. But he's kind of bashing young people like oh young people testifying congre. Why aren't they just deer drinking jello shots and having sex with each other and do whatever, you know, why they identifying whatever that kind of like get off my lawn humor. And do you. Do you heard that clip, right? Just the short one. I remember seeing people pass around the script of it and talking about whether the script was a good representation of the audio. What that's right. If I it was a script the script was one hundred percent what it was in the clip..
