The story early chains guarding it out making the return from a hamstring. He would play most of the night he would struggle particularly first half gophers six from the poor with two turnovers presence. Team to lift is deep. He was out there doing good but the nets would struggled mightily in the first half down. Sixteen into the third week and kevin durant would say this is about to become line night here. We got durant in the lane. Plays it up in good news just getting started ensuing possession durant in transition. This was his running mate last night. Jeff green seven eight from three twenty seven points nets creeping back into it. They're down nine final minute of the third durant. Good the six point game into the fourth quarter under nine to play now with into the rain using the screen. My goodness that's their first lead since it was two nothing just over five minutes now. What a game nets lead by one the rain mid range over middleton yes. That's why three a buck twenty to go down by two janas goes to the line again down by two crowd smelling blood. I one no road. He'd make a second to one point game under a minute ago. Still one point track clock winding down. Here's the biggest moment of the night. "louis riddick" Discussed on The Paul Finebaum Show

"You back a week from now. Our next guest will be one of the busiest men in showbusiness. He will be getting ready for the nfl draft of course On espn louis. Riddick join us. Thank you so much lewis. It's took one of them. Were fascinating buildups. I'm curious if somebody who's been part of the draft as a player as as an administrator and now as an analyst how would how would degrees of these last couple of weeks compare to what you've seen in the past they did. There's a lot more interesting paul. Because of the fact that quarterbacks are expected to go at the very top of the draft you know obviously one through three. And then we'll see what happens at number four here with the atlanta falcons. And could you have four quarterbacks in the first round right on right out of the gate and there's a lot of intrigue with that and look. I mean i think we all understand. We all know that. Trevor lawrence. And jack jack wilson will likely go one or two. Barring unforeseen circumstances but what san francisco. It's the fact that there's so much intrigue about what exactly is kyle going to do there. Is it really going to be something where he dressed mack jones. Your audience has a ton of interest in whether or not he actually is going to go number three. Or is it going to be trae lance and then that number four. Could you have trae lance go there or could mack jones number for me. When it's quarterbacks it's quarterbacks that have an sec quarterbacks that have championship pedigrees like like. Mac does like trevor lawrence does. There's this there's this a lot surrounding that and then you've got a guy like kyle pits right. I mean another sec name. That is now right square in the mix for being a possible. Top five pick march the devante smith jalen waddell on and on and on. I think that's why there's so many explosive offensive playmakers and with quarterbacks being the headliners everybody wants to wants to wants to tune in and see what happens there. I know you've had some interesting things lately to say about trae lance especially with what could happen prompting eh What are your thoughts on that trait trait lands. I think is one of these people who you know. He's the quintessential scouting terms the guy with possibly a low ceiling. But probably the highest possibly a little floor. But probably the highest ceiling of all of these quarterbacks meaning this because we don't know a whole lot about him in terms of his resume being that he only played one game in two thousand and twenty and then played against. Fcs competition in two thousand nineteen. There's some unknown with that. There's some unknown there's a lot of projection involved with that but when you look at how he made up personally internally in terms of personal and football character and what is physical skills are the sky is the absolute limit for him and you think look if he could get with an offense of system that call shanahan runs in san francisco if you could get with an offense system like they run down like they're gonna run down there in the heart of sec country in atlanta with arthur smith. Those two offenses are tailor made for what he did. It state what he's going to do. It would be expected to do in the pros. And i just think that he is probably the most intriguing quarterback of all these because he's the one who knows the least about but ultimately he's the one who a lot of quarterback coaches believe can have the highest ceiling of a mall. And i mean that just adds a lot of intrigue about well as san francisco actually take him over jones who put together that brilliant season last year is he gonna fall back into atlanta's lap is atlanta gonna pass on them and take pits is atlanta go to trade back and try and get them later on as bill belichick gonna come up from fifteen to try and get him is going to come up from fifteen to try and get a mac jones people's all those different scenarios reason. Why next thursday night you have to be dialed in right from the get go and in particular. San francisco's on the clock lewis. Let's flip over to kyle pitch because he is such an intriguing personality and athlete. And you're trying to sign either between him or the aforementioned or then trying to decide between one of the most interesting groups wide receivers that we've seen. Yeah yeah he is Look i look at this from a defense perspective. Paul if i was back in the league and this was in the early nineties mid ninety and i want to get some really good tight ends in my day you know. Name the guy like keith jackson from oklahoma when he was down in miami with dan marino and he was kind of the standard as far as speed pass catching ability capable blocker but the speed and the route running in the pass. Catching ability was unique. Kyle pits makes jackson's athletic ability. Look childlike because here. You have a guy who was six five six six two hundred forty five close two hundred fifty pounds. Who runs four three. Who has the wingspan of a pterodactyl. What do you do with a guy like that from a defense perspective. There's no one who can match up with that from height weight speed deal. You need your passwords to help you out because otherwise if he gets on an island one on one which at some point in the nfl it comes down to one on one match up because that's the way the game is that's the way offense coordinator is like it. He's going to get you and there's nothing you can do about it. The only way you can slow it down a guy like that. Is the the quarterback on the ground. Make the quarterback go elsewhere. Which means you're dublin and triple team jam at the line double team. Once he gets down the field which means it's one on one coverage for some other people so he's the ultimate the ultimate weapon x in this new this new generation of nfl player. And it's not just hyperbole. He's going to be a problem. Paul he's gonna be a problem for defensive players. I'm just glad. I don't have to deal with guys like that. And as you're looking at it again from defensive standpoint how do you differentiate the alabama wide receivers your march. Yeah that's a great question. And look i think with demar damara has strength has speed has slot ability complete the x play the z. Meaning the split or the flanker. He's a guy who whoever twenty yards per reception plus in two thousand and nineteen when they had the championship run. He can do it all. He's got everything speed strength stamina durability. He's got it all. Devante has probably the best pure out running ability escape. Ability at the line of scrimmage and has got some of the best ball tracking skills of any receiver. You've seen come out in recent years but he's just a little bit on the thin side so it's just a matter what you prefer. Do you want a guy who has more strength or do you want the guy. Who's just really like picasso's far as running routes concern. Jalen is just i mean. He's a home run threat just that ridiculous tyreek hill type of type of speed type of pure functional speed and that's not hyperbole. either you can see it on the field. Would he can run in the forty yard. Dash is what he can do on the football field. And i've had more than a couple of different personnel people. Tell me the same way you see. Kansas city use tyrod is exactly how they'll use jalen. Because they the same kind of movement patterns the same kinda positional versatility the same kind of homerun ability and jalen. My probably be a better ball tracker down the field as far as being a pure route runner. I mean as far as being pure receiver. So you can't go wrong with any of those guys it's just a matter of this is the matter of preference. What do you want. What kind of flavor do you want. All three of them are going to be great pros louis before you go. I'm curious about about ver- quarterback conundrum that you addressed earlier. Because you know there's there's there's so many different schools. I thought we can wait for a quarterback or if there's a quarterback that you think can change your future go for now you've been in the front office. You know those decisions come down to in today's wide open world of the nfl. What's what's the right answer. I think you know. I always default to the kind of thing that andy reid. Usa continuously talked to us about when he was in philadelphia. Which is obviously quarterbacks..

What Is Wrong With Carson Wentz:

"Philly eagles and seahawks and birds and other birds only one type heading south carson wentz again trying to prove a starter status again coming up short another interception adding to his league-leading totally was also six. Times is back backup. Jalen hurts saw just to blaze last night. We'll have much more on him in just a second but first eagles get the win. Here's carson winston after last night's loss to seattle. There's been a lot of talk and speculation. You possibly getting benched or something like that. I mean does that way on you at all. Do you think about that at all. And that occurred during the game. Any of that. Come up. i mean. I said that last week you know this is what you sign up for as a quarterback member. Since you're a kid you know you're prepared for for any of those nothing's ever guaranteed and so for me i. I don't think about that though. I just try and go out and be the best player. I can be in practice. Prepare my tail off. Compete my tail off and You know hopefully we can get this thing turned around but I think about those things. I might give it everything i got every time i step on the field. I think i said the eagles went. Obviously the seahawks won there and carson wentz with the barrage of questions about his plane time plane status plane brandon start with you did carson wentz play well enough to keep his starting job moving forward. Well i mean i hell. Mary was nice. i mean how. How often do we see that at all. He but outside of that. Mary no he. He didn't play well. The coaches the coach. Well defense didn't play well enough. This is one of those years. Nick where everybody needs to be on notice when you play like this and miss division everyone should be on notice and then you can go back to last couple years outside of their super bowl. Run it's always been a struggle for this organization. If i'm the owner. I am looking at everything. I'm looking at the general managers there's other gaps. There's other holes on this team is not just carson wentz. it's also the linebacking core and it's not that the linebacking core isn't playing. Well they're just not very good they don't have any debt so with that mind like you gotta talk about. Who's making those decisions. And you got to hold them accountable. So this entire organization. Mic should be on notice at listen. I think might garafolo is the one who reported this morning that he can no longer report. That doug peterson is totally save. Despite being just three years removed from actually winning a super bowl something carson wentz is not able to say. He did what that means for our rose. One of the front office will see. And you're right brandon. This is a team that has a multitude of issues but their biggest issue is this in twenty twenty the worst starting quarterback in football now. That's not a statement of opinion. That's just if according to the numbers we can show them. The worst fulltime starting quarterback in the nfl is carson wentz and the spat back that up one hundred percent. He's thirty fifth worse in everything. And there's only thirty two teams folks and he is a turnover machine he runs into sacks he doesn't make the big throws anymore. There's been one game all year long that he didn't turn the ball over and in that game. He fumbled twice. They just happened to recover them so it does feel however wildlife carson wentz might be the one with the most job security because of the contract. He's been signed to based on performance. You have a twenty eight a guy that's going to be twenty eight this month. He's in year five and he's playing the worst football of his career. That is more than a sign for his future. But do you think that's all of his fault nick. Because morning i wake up. And i make a little menu and i called my my kitchen. Where do my work hot take cafe and on today's menu. Here's what we had. You can make your choice. Everyone you can have bad coaching with a side of bad. Play design you can have bad decision. Making with a side of bad throws you could have bad wide receivers and bad protection. Those your options at the take cafe for me. I want went bad protection. I went with the six acts. We're not his fault. The league leading forty six x also. Not his fault he also had some throwaways there and i was watching the game last night neck and i was like oh the one when he was chased out of the pocket to avoid an intentional grounding. He threw it to the first down. Even though it came up short i was like. Oh that's a. That's a good play. That's a quarterback you can build around. I'm like what what is happening. I'm calling a throw to save even intentional grounding a good play and he could say like. I don't put it on the offensive line. Louis riddick mentioned it last night when they went to the super bowl best offensive line surprise surprise. Takeout carson wentz put. Nick foles doesn't matter to me. It starts with the offensive line. I know there's a lot of side dishes but it's an offensive line thing for me.

NFL players approve new CBA, runs through 2030

"Radio one big measure that allows the NFL to move forward with business as usual is the approval of the new CBA time for straight talk brought to you by straight talk wireless players this weekend voting in favor of the new collective bargaining agreement which means there will be labor peace for the next decade it also means that we will see a seventeen game scheduled as early as twenty twenty one the vote was close closer than many had expected ESPN analyst Damien woody clearly there's a lot of work going on as far as it relates to this new CBA deal you're talking about a difference with two thousand roughly two thousand please holding only fifty votes sixty votes were the difference on what this new CBA passing another narrative was you had the big money players you know saying no and rank and file is going to be it's going to follow through but that wasn't the case that was clearly not the case but it's both clearly there was a lot of racquetball player they did not agree with that with this new CBA also the union has some work to do CDA passes this weekend but as you heard passed by a margin of just sixty votes ESPN front office insider Louis Riddick yeah it's one of the situations where obviously you can you can tell that there's a lot of the desert there's a lot of uncertainty when you have the you know a boat that was separated by less than a hundred boats as far as accepting this new deal not accepting his new deal obviously there were people not just the top one percent of your top five percent with the rank and file as well that we're not comfortable with this you're talking about making deals like this but I understand that was part of the rank and file one point time and understand what our media hundred thousand dollar increase would mean but I you know I also believe that you know there really wasn't a chance of there being a work stoppage in twenty twenty they're gonna play games this year regardless and I think you know having been on the front office side of things and I've been around contract negotiators for the better part of the past two years of my post playing career twenty two years my post playing career when you have leverage you have time on your side the smart ones are the ones who try to lock you into long term deals early and entice you with cash flow immediately because they know they're going to make it back on the on the on the backside they're gonna make out it sounds like that's exactly what the owners got the players to do and I think once you start breaking it down and talking to people who really understand how CBA negotiations once before but the revenue sharing split actually really is and how revenue is going to explode once now owner start negotiating TV deals your movie centered on some one time prior to the two thousand eleven CBA that we were basically net net fifty fifty partners in now we're forty seven percent partners and we're going to forty eight point five percent part how did that were not actually fifty fifty partners anymore when we basically are the capital where the human capital and tried the game and we signed a deal that with the Europe tour early and we didn't have really any reason to do so because they were going to stop us from playing really this year anyway so there's a lot of questions I'm sure and that that right there it looked like it in the wake of both played itself out we really didn't get into this look man I mean I'm I'm I'm happy that he won because football is my life and that's you know I everything I have I owe to playing the game at the highest level inflated manifold the deal making deal making and owners are very good deal making I think they showed once again you're talking about the vote we have a lot of social reaction the Twitter reaction early on on the show in the ravens Marlon Humphrey tweeted that five hundred players didn't vote on the CVA we have the numbers last that's about right what do you say to that that's ridiculous man knocking Buhari's thing it's American will know what happens when you know you get into a situation involved voting and then you just don't even participate but then you're one of the people were complaining about how many things turn out if it doesn't turn out the word benefits you will you have no right to say anything that is one of the most important things outside of obviously what is going on a global basis right now which believe me I've gotten my attention and everyone else is but as far as your profession is concerned what is more important now than a ball players and his cast your vote one way or another educate yourself about how this new CD is going to affect you tell me five hundred plus people dissent I'm either on vacation I don't have time but you know I don't like don't we are you kidding me that's amazing to me that that the medically non participants when it when it comes to a democratic partisan voting there's just no excuse for his non otherwise don't don't say a word please don't say a word whether or not this is good or bad you don't they work if you have no you have no voice anymore you just elect not to participate that's very very disappointed new CDA passing by sixty votes with five hundred members

Bengals at the Combine in Indianapolis, taking a closer look at Joe Burrow

"With us here from Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis where we will be all week so much going on. I'm waiting next with Adam. Schefter Louis Riddick Todd mcshay and Mike Tannenbaum just to catch you up right now. Here's what's happening today in Indianapolis. It will be a very busy week. At Five o'clock eastern though owners are expected to meet players to talk about the new CBA which could expand the playoffs and move to a seventeen game regular season. We've got forty seven. Nfl head coaches and GMT. We'll be talking today. You're also hear from SEC. Standouts Joe Borough and to a ton of Aloha who also addressed the media earlier today. Jonesboro put on an absolute show as you know on route to a national championship for Lsu setting an FBI. Single season record with sixty touchdown passes and Ditto. While completing a whopping seventy six percents of his passes and not only that but bro won the heisman trophy in dominant fashion receiving a record ninety point seven percent of the first place votes here. Our previous comments from Joe Borough on February seventeenth during a reception. For the Davey. O'brien award. He had this to say I do have leveraged the Bengals have their process and I have my process. We haven't even gotten to the combine yet. There's a lot of things that happened. Leading up to the draft. A lot of information gathered bras. Mother Robin shot down the idea. Her son does not want to play for the bengals. Saying we have no idea where that came from. It's a story out there that has created that doesn't have any substance at least from our perspective here Hasbro earlier today here at the combine. Of course I want to be the first pick. That's that's every kid's dream you know I've worked really really hard for this opportunity and I'm blessed to be in this position. I'm a ball player. Whoever picks me on my go show up? How play whoever for forever dressing? You know. I'm just not going to be presumptuous. About what they WANNA DO I. It's the draft. You guys have been covered it for a long time and you never know what's going to happen so we played a month longer than everyone else and everyone else's been training a month longer than us you know. I wanted to put. I don't I didn't think I'd be able to put my best foot forward here at the combine so I wanted to wait till pro day had another whole month of training and just be the best that I could be when everyone when. Everyone's eyes are on me. You know coming in. If you're the number one pick the teen is picking number one. Is there for a reason? So you're going to have to come in. There's going to be ups and downs and you've got to stay steady through the process. Our research tells us about Joe. Borough is his own man. He's not going to be talked into saying things for other people's benefits so if that's what he said. That's that's fantastic. I'm looking forward to getting to know him getting to meet him through. The process haven't been able to sit down with them yet. But we've got that on the horizon. We'll talk more about Joe. Boroughs plans to hold off throwing here at the combine. But might I'll start with you in terms of do you want? Do you not want to play for the being. You have any issues at all with where we landed at least at this point. No I mean as I said last week Joe Borough at the end he does not have leverage. The bengals have the first pick in the draft. If they want to draft. Joe Joe Borough. That's where he's GonNa go now with that. Said I think it's incumbent upon sack Taylor in the Bengal organization to create the Right Environment. Where he could come in and they could build something sustainable and truly transformative so. I think where we wended. Wendy is appropriate last week. He could've handled that better but to Joe Boroughs credit. I think they tweak things I think they're in a good spot now. He's been well-coached past week. Tower doesn't it. Yeah and Adema to your Do All your contacts. It appears that borough likely young he's projected pick. I still think that's where the bengals ultimately go. And they're sitting there and that's about this a team that needs somebody to revitalize that franchise and they are expected to look to trade Andy Dalton at some point this off season and so when you're sitting there in division with Lamar Jackson there in Baltimore think that they know that they have to get somebody in there. That's going to put some points on the Board Baker Mayfield Cleveland and this is going to be the pick for the Cincinnati bengals. Even Joe was considering trying to exercise some kind of leverage really the only leverage you have is withhold your services and not playing not report even if he was thinking along those lines. Let's say he's doing a deep dive trying to figure out exactly. Just what the Cincinnati offer as far as developing me as a quarterback. Could you blame him? Could you really blame him for wanting to dig? Deep on exactly what? What does the future going to look like during over the course of my rookie contract with this football team would exactly? What exactly is Mike Brown's commitment to go ahead and building out this roster around me because we all know a lot of what's going to happen to him has nothing to do with him and has everything to do with everything that's going to be around him. Just look at the past three or four drafts. And how certain players have benefited from going to certain to certain teams? Just look at l a look at the difference between jar rookie year in his second year. Sean mcvay came in. It flipped his rookie year. People were saying Jared Goff to Canada. All of a sudden his second year is like. Oh wait a minute. Maybe he's not so bad you couldn't blame him. If that was a thought Lewis to that point I also think an opportunity. If you're Zach Taylor to say hey what's happened in the past. It's irrelevant we're going to myself with you and we're going to build something great and we can't worry about what's happened before we have a lot of work to do. But if I'm the bengals if I have a hey coach Taylor. That's worked with quarterbacks. Like you mentioned Jared Goff Joe Boroughs Billy and character. That's a great opportunity for the bengals. Sino three things one. Is that if something were to go on with. The bengals is not going to happen in public and this has been addressed in the past week if it's going to happen behind the scenes so whatever we hear from this point on. Don't even don't even look at it. Don't think about it because it has nothing to do with with what is going on behind the scenes. The second thing is this guy's different cab he beats. It goes a Beatles drummer. He doesn't care what anyone else has done. In the past what everyone else is GonNa do in the future? He's going to do what's best for Joe Borough but the third thing I know about him is he's a football guy he's his. His brothers played linebacker at safety at Nebraska. His Dad's a almost four decades coach in football. He's a football guy at its core. He's from Ohio. Obviously I think when it's all said and done he winds up going in Cincinnati if he's number one overall pick but again. If it's GonNa Happen it's GonNa Happen. Not In the media. It's GonNa happen behind the scenes again. Joe Bro not expected to throw on Thursday. He said he just wasn't ready yet. Not a huge deal. Sam Darnold Kyla Murray. The last two years have opted not to throw here at the combine as well. What did make headlines on Sunday? Oddly enough pros hand measurements the measurable quarterbacks took place on Sunday on the smaller side. Love listen here's what he said after it was suggested his aunt size was small considering retirement after. I was informed that we slipping out of my tiny hands. Please keep me in your thoughts while he's got good company because here's what Super Bowl fifty four. Mvp Patrick Mahomes had to say who had just slightly larger hands than did borough my small Andrew doing great so far all right he should say believe in yet. Here's borough earlier today addressing his hands. Yeah I mean these measurements you can. You can take so much from them if it's a glaring issue on film with turnovers. Yeah it's probably an issue but I didn't have a lot of fumbles or anything like that so I just tried to make a little joke out of it I think it's a non factor I don't get paid to talk about. Measurements and analyze. The measurements like played to play football. So that's what I'm GONNA do. I look we're not gonNA make too much of this question. Well yet about what? They actually do what they're actually measuring here so worry not. We've got a ruler. We've got Louis at. I mean really what you're really trying to do is just trying to measure the expense of someone and they put it down on the ground and you actually hear about guys actually doing hand exercises to stretch their hand as wide as possible although when you're grabbing a football you're actually going to measure from the tip of the thumb to the tip of the Pinky here and this is hard because this is a hard rule and you can't really get good accurate measuring you look tired type by just under nine right. Look I'll give you a non center's Oh that's attention and would have actually done something with my. I mean what's interesting when you watch the tape of Joe Borough? There are situations where people come from behind strip him when he's trying to move up in the pocket and run. I mean that's going to happen if you have nine if you have ten inches so I mean it's not a glaring obvious problem as far as him on the football field and that's why I think it's really. It's just going to be something that will hopefully wind up forgetting about certain the biggest thing is and you know this with all of these drills you know as well. Mike you go back to the tape and you're trying to find something after the fact that says okay. Now I'm going to look specifically at these things so you're gonNA look cold weather rain and then ball security and Joe Boroughs as good as any college quarterback you're ever going to see in the pocket in terms of two hands on the ball and protecting the ball. I saw him in two thousand eighteen the last weekend. In September against Ole Miss. You can go back and watch the tape. My suit was soaking wet when I did the open of that game. It was pouring rain driving rain in anyone who says it doesn't rain in Baton Rouge on a Saturday night is lying to you. Because it poured and he completed seventy two percent of his throws with three touchdowns and zero interceptions in that game. So you go back to the tape and you try to look at these things and what the tape tells you is. He's just fine. You know I had a theory here. I have an interesting experience with hand size so I was forced out in two thousand eight. We were we trade for Brett Farve and just as a fan of sport. I can't wait to go out to the first practice and watch Brett farve throw. There's nothing physically imposing about breath and he goes out there and he's throwing Abe I've ever seen and I ask them like what is the value. Where's this philosophy comes from it? He said you know what Mike I have long fingers and I actually couple of football the way a lot of people throw a softball. I could actually be over the top and that's where I get all my philosophy from just watching my practice. It was unbelievable to watch though. I know as Lewis show. There's a tradition of how we measure hands but finger. Length is actually an underrated aspect of playing quarterback so far so far small hands but long fingers and you know what my pinky and all the time strong throwing football pictures of the five. It's easily the least important finger in the hand and I can't remember it ever being a big factor. It's all there in the grip. The pinky to me doesn't matter. It's archaic. How we're measuring the quarterback's hand span now with that. Said there's thirty four quarterbacks in the last fourteen years who have been drafted that have had hands of nine inches and smaller and really only two of them had any sort of Sustained Success Ryan. Tannehill is one of them and Jared. Goff is the other. That's it so there are thirty two out of thirty four. Who have failed. But are we going to say that he's going to the Joe Boroughs? Not GonNa have success because his hands tells me that the reason for their failure wasn't because they were nine inches weight.

"What's going on big time? How are you? What's up chippendales? What's going on? Ah Stephen I'm all right. Listen man when you were watching. Lamar Jackson performed last night. Let's get right to this point. Watch it Lamar Jackson. Simple form the way that he performed last night. Did you learn anything new. Is it more of the same or is this just an elevated of realization. That should kick it with all of us to really really highlight what we're seeing especially this. Yeah I think what you're seeing is a young man. That's very motivated to Prune. Many many people wrong as far as what they thought he could ultimately do as a passer in addition to being a great athletes. That's what you're seeing and now obviously. He has a lot of support within a great championship organization nation as far as an owner who believed in them coach. You believed in all general manager who believed in them and a group of players that have been put put together around him to supplement. What is a tremendously gifted kid? And he's now he now has coordinators haters and opposing team's going. They don't want let's let's just say they are now evaluating exactly how they want to coach their players in order to stop it in. This players are asked to defend him in a way that they haven't been asked but then since maybe they were back in college and in high school cool which means all eleven players on defense at the tackle now all of them have to be very very very assignment conscious as far as making sure got bits and run responsibilities. They're taking care of every every play and then once you get that down the Margot's Oh guess what now I'm going to run play action pass and I'm GonNa throw it to you to my wide receiver here. Hollywood browser one's four the three and now he's going to be behind you now he's GonNa make you look silly so really. It's making defenses. have to go back to the drawing board as far as how the attacks dramatically approach him from a mentality standpoint because it's not just the more Lamar's having an effect on the rest of the both more Ravens football team to they All are playing physical. They're all playing with an attitude and they beat people up man to what learned is not only as good football player in his own right right and the guy who built his his game. He's also a hell of a leader and someone who who inspires his peers. I mean just look at how the football team react to them. Stephen allthough coaches react to him so he he's having an effect because far above and beyond. I think what anybody thought was Stephen. ESPN RADIO ESPN news. I'm GonNa Tell You I'm GonNa Ma Throw something your way because it's something that I've noticed and I don't know if you've ever been asked this question because no you can't be Lamar Jackson and I don't think anybody should expect you to be Lamar Jackson. But I will say this one of the things. That are fine very very strange. Louis Riddick is that I'm looking at a guy like Mitchell trubisky. He's got wheels on him mad name. He just said a couple of weeks ago. Well I'M GONNA pull arrange off. Let them run a little bit more Josh Allen for balls for Buffalo you know. The rains have been let unleash just a little bit. He ran the ball effectively against the Dallas cowboys. No you don't have to be. You can't be Lamar Jackson. We understand that but if you are quarterback that you who can run you're not to drew brees of the world and we saw Tom Brady take a seventeen yard scramble last last week for crying out loud but you're not a scrambler whatever but you can really really run with the football. Why do coaches appear to be so hesitant to let these these guys do what they can do when it comes to running the football from the quarterback position? Well I think it's two things one as good as athlete as good of an athlete as Mitch. trubisky is GonNa Athlete as as Josh Allen Is. They're not in the same category as Lamar Number One. I know that I mean yeah I know I know you know what I'm saying. See like memorial. It's almost like it's it's so damn good that you almost feel like I heard somebody come Jackson. I believe it was told home. And this is like it's almost like gale Sayers who can throw and I'm like well. That's that's I mean. Nobody's saying that about Mr Bisky is in okay. So memorials one of a kind. I also think that. NFL COACHES NFL. General managers owners truly do believe. Leave that quarterbacks just are not designed and that position is not intended for to have someone take the number of hits and put himself. I'll bet risk the same way. Lamar is hit and put at risk so to speak for an injury from an injury standpoint. But I'll say this owners are so right now hell bent on and rightfully so getting immediate returns on their investments. They WanNa win right now. They WANNA win today. They WanNa win this year. They don't care about the long term so I think people are going to start asking themselves this question when it comes to take an athletic quarterback and run. The ball made me nor more than at any other time timing football and the NFL football history. Are you willing to. Would you rather have a quarterback who plays five to eight years. And maybe wins you one or the two super bowls or quarterback who plays fifteen plus years like Philip rivers and doesn't win any super bowl. Which one would you rather have? Yeah that's true. You went to one that's going to. That's right so I think what's happening is you're gonNA maybe see especially when you have a guy who has. Maybe Mr Bisky type talent or a little bit better as far as running the football Josh Allen Type Towel maybe a little bit better in definitely guys who are run past. Lamar people are gonNA say. I'M GONNA change the way I think and say. Hey Look I don't WanNa get hurt hurt. I'm not trying to be reckless with them. But they look at what he does when he has the ball in his hand like this. And if I can get a con- you know one contract to who contracts out of him and maybe one or two super bowls. I'll much rather have that than to say. Well I protected him and he played fifteen years. We win it so I think that's what that's what I think eventually going to happen. Do you believe John Hough did this because he saw this or do you believe he did. This is because of what he never saw. Joe FLACCO since Joe flacco in the Baltimore Ravens won the Super Bowl. I think he's doing this because he sees he. He really is trying to utilize in about as organic and Truth Wilbur. Way What are this young man's best talents which is not not just being able to throw the football at a high level and then an increasingly higher level but a guy who literally is the. Tom's accident said literally is like gale. Sayers with the ability to throw the football like eight starting caliber. Winning Zuma going quality quarterback and I think he's. He's doing what he sees in front of him and he's not really worried about ten fifteen years at this. He's not worried about that right now. Oh He's just not and that's not the again that's not to say. He doesn't care about Lamar's long-term future and doesn't want him to play as long as he can. I think he's just utilizing what is a very very a unique weapon. No I will say this to Baltimore deserves. All the credit in the world is he's loosened deserves all the credit in the world drafted. 'cause they're the ones who moved into the back of the first trying to drive them not anybody else they did but remember in the same draft also took Hayvenhurst before they drafted Lamar Jackson. Okay they took a tight tight in. WHO's now not even a primary receiving tight end before they took what is now a guy who's revolutionizing the quarterback position so it wasn't like they were for sure it can it happened but give them credit because they saw or they were willing to do something that not many other teams? Were willing to do Louis Riddick right here with Steven. ESPN RADIO ESPN canoes. Let's get to some of the big games scheduled to take place this week in Dallas cowboys hosting the Los Angeles. Rams what are you looking for in this particular game specifically from the cowboys just want to professionalism you know just as Clay Matthews told me back in the ninety ninety when I was in Cleveland. Are they willing to be. Pros are willing to just take it upon themselves to do the things they've been coaching do football players since they were playing in pop. Water Block tackle. Do Your job do your job for sixty minutes do whatever it takes to play concentrating football when football game because if they'll just do that Dallas can win the division going away and they can win a game in the playoffs. Are they willing to put themselves in that mindset. Well Jason Garrett is who he is coming more is who years Christian chart is who Louis is. All these coaches are who they are. This is about the players at this point. They can get it to them right of themselves playing good you know why because he said you're listening to me. I can't do anything for you anymore. It's about you so here. Let me show you playing good. Maybe you guys go. Oh Yeah I am an all pro I hi Emma I am a pro bowl. I am one of the top ten players as my position. Oh yeah that's right I I'm pretty damn good. It's a shame that he has to do that. But that's what I'm hoping I I see from them. Are you holding you hoping that are you open at. UC Ezekiel Elliott. Get the football more. How about that sure I am I am I am hoping I but but you know truthfully I don't expect it? I expect the rams the Stop Them I really do because I don't think this is the mentally tough football team. Oh no actually. I don't think they aren't America. Football team otherwise. Their own quarterback wouldn't come out and say yeah. y'All know streaky team. When you say I know we're streak and that means he's saying I know we? We don't always play our best. I don't know why but we don't always sit there. They're they're admitting it themselves. So it is what it is right here with Steven. ESPN RADIO ESPN news. What about the rams and based on what you've seen from them I'm wondering what.

"Nick was on with us right now what's up man how you doing you chippendales Rosen Noggin and the back is not the most attractive thing Louis Riddick I'm sorry I'm not I'm not I still manage to find a way to win the game led by Jimmy Garoppolo your thongs and put it perfectly he thought that was one of the best games if not the best game Jimmy is played that's been there construction everything's on time and it's rhythm he was accurate with the football quizzes dissipation throws when it wasn't perfect he did that too and he was again this hype when he came through form you know at his at his best any run the football playing great defense controls the clock and have great field position that means that number ten it's a great time to start getting into that kind of grew as you head into the month of November arrested I asked You a simple question Louis riddick nine touchdowns seven interceptions on the season Oh there we'd be scrutinizing and and that's what that's what I'm saying which make the first half of the season we know that's come from that's come from Kevin Coleman but he's hitting his stride at the right time you know someone who hasn't played a whole lot of football he's still so young in his career so I think I think that this guy is someone who is without a doubt still sending in his career AFC conference because the New York jets made news this week you saw outfielder calls about Aaron Donald Fielding Calls About Tom There's a person I don't think you'll have anybody putting him in that category at this particular juncture I think there's it seems like there's a lack of and I think clearly there's a lack of trust and confidence between the superstar unless there's back it up to even before Adam Gates was hired they arzu coach he dress all the new players for that new coach after all the draft is done they fired Adam Gates is someone who right now it's looking at how they're handling Colegio assembly how can we have you talked to your player no no no I haven't well why not 'cause he hasn't come the top of their organization and I'm not absolving Jamal as far as some of the things that then guys like Jalen Ramsey who found themselves in a situation they exactly the situation that Jamal Adams finds himself in he finds himself in an organization right now what's who would like to have a fresh start somewhere I can't blame him I wanted to say I'd he was lying when he sat up there said I told about they want to go nowhere I wanNA be who the Hell WanNa be who cares about how he's perceived both externally and internally recruiting class and you're you're being considered one of the people who are going to change the the program Ain't look when I'm fed up with the direction of the franchise I'm GonNa try and get out of here and get someplace that's GonNa utilize his right to want to do that and say he wanted to do that but then when it doesn't work now you any back in the bottle so to speak and can't really what's really at this time the best advice not just get this job how the hell is he in a position to fit and see people will accuse me of being hater saying well you know what you're saying because you're not a jam give it I don't know what he's done I just know this just like in life house some people who really do respect his coaching axiom it's behind you and sponsors you ownership in the NFL and in professional sports overall it's really understand INS and outs of the game many owners in the NFL hasn't been in they tell him and it's like you you sit there as someone another one and people say stop being a hater not being a hater this is the fact personally attacking Adam gays but I I don't have an answer for that are going to take place this weekend within the jets division the the what would she what should we be looking for in this game and obviously you got a lot of people that the from what you do best and to and make you do what you don't like to do designed running back runs play action pass they can do it all so then you're in blake that's what I that's where the game will be won or loss for New England on the defensive side of the hey at their best they are turnover producing machines they have great pass rush but that's what it's GonNa come down to can they get them third he has lost a step we as forty two years of age obviously or do you look at up do you view it as you know what Tom Brady is the disposal I think it's more the latter now I would just say they'll like this we're all know that but you won't you can't to the naked eye tell Tom has done more in the face of continuous change at a championships in two plays away from having eight championships cygnus you can't touch it and it's kind of foolish to sit and pick out him and go anybody in the history of the sport in continued to win and set the standard feeding directly off of what you just broke down could a legitimate in years that dare we say he may have been exposed to some unfair treatment for lack of a better way of phrasing it bill has it has forced operate at in order to win at the level he's wanted you can't even imagine makers are other than bill it the amount of pressure and responsibility audibles how the how things work the Patriot way meaning outside of the coaches so roster stability and you had much more roster longevity in terms of keeping guys together you guys together man Tom they've won the Pacers may have won ten eleven I mean he's he really is and I know people are going to be like man aren't you tired Brady Fatigue Louis Riddick right here with Steven A. ON ESPN RADIO ESPN news before I move onto some quick subjects is my buddy should be an executive GM executive vp do you move him or do you keep him and tell Tom is the way to go which way do you go with that Luella and you know what who wants to be in a position bills in or any GM there's a there's a deck blower Malloy did it did it might variable you know he did it the guys over and over Richard Accept Different not only with you but between ownership and the fan base and wanted to do that I'm sure involved more than just him there's a lot with Tom it just is whether we like it or not and I can't say whether or not I could you know nobody could have done it could have got him out of there who's the number one threat real quick I would've said I would've said I would've said the colts the top to bottom obviously the cheese you know how about the cheese and coach read and Komo say the coal NFC so many people popular saying who's the number WHO's the number one team in the NFC built to beat offense align they can play volleyball big boy ball.

"Let's get right to it. Let's go to Jason you live with Steven Steven. Thanks for having me on go ahead. I WANNA say first off. I think you should apologise to your boy. Mike Greenberg or Mike Greenberg and your boy Louis Riddick you know not not not many people can pull off the casual Adolf Friday. Look like you cancer pulling it off in it was at the shirts extra unbuttoned stuff like they were trying to audition for chip in days. Ah brought it up. We'll go ahead all right so two points real quick. I just wanted to say honestly I believe Russell Wilson's should be up there with names like Aaron Rodgers and and Patrick Mahomes is one of the best growers in football right now what he did last night was unbelievable unlike anything that's sort of lock it in the corner and that first quarter was was something beautiful second point. I think more importantly I know I heard you guys. I'm I take about debating about how if La La with lucky or not I think one of the bigger points is there the number one their their lack of run game that they've not only show last night for the past few games todd Gurley has yet to have a hunter yard game. The only ran for fifty five yards. I'll be the two touchdowns last night so do you think that if that continues not only their lack of run on game but their inability to stop the run the play calling of John Shatner Day sorry and now I listen I listen. I think their problem is you know obviously the offensive line is it considered having a great reputation. They're going to have to run block and let Todd Gurley loose and and I think long as they do that the rams defense despite the fifty five points they gave up to Tampa is the kind of defense that bends a lot and won't necessarily break all the time some afternoon some Sundays they will show up they will show up and they will get the job done but your offense has to be more consistent. Tog early is a stud without him then entirely different different team appreciate the call. Oh thank you John you lava Steve and they were subject. Hey Steven I I wanNA commend you on a call that you had last week with a guy that call all up complaining about Dak Prescott in the contract and and you not letting him off the hook and asking him the question. Why did he not call up when the other quarterbacks happen to have been white and you didn't say that which was brilliant on your part but and wouldn't let him off the hook it was obvious why he didn't recall those quarterbacks right but but here's my here's my point and we talked about this briefly couple of weeks ago the problem with the NCAA and this whole California thing extending into other other states and the final minute and stable swooping going to make it a national rule for the NCAA the problem? Is You know this affects other college athletes not only in the other sports other than the big too but also the kids that goes to let's say Fordham on a Division One basketball scholarship. Those schools are not gonna be able to afford to be division one anymore. There's only going to be a handful of division. One schools and everybody else will be something while you sit at the. Why do you say that the because they won't be able to afford that the Davidson won't get the Steph curry they that's a bad example but but but but the whole whole point is one could argue? That's the case now and that's been the case for many years but it's not how many pros come out of Saint Joe's not too many. That's what I'm that's my point but they do them back to Galloway you. Could you could give me Jim in Nelson's Allante West. You could give me a handful of guys. The bottom line is for the most part the reality is because individual talent scouts on the NBA level beyond they're gonNA find those guys no matter where they're playing but in terms of powerhouse teams joining big conferences big money programs etc.. That's that's already been happening for years. That's a fact you have to understand how schools make money they make an athletic program if they advance if they win the a ten they win the patiently right and they win a game around the NCAA they make money from that so in other words I cover sports for twenty. Five years usually got to know that well. I'm to the point that I'm trying to make to us that this always been an imbalance what we're talking about. Now is individual marquee walking names having the opportunity to profit off of their likeness. If you're Chris Webber and you have your name on the back of a Jersey being sold on MMA campus Michigan during the Fab five era and how come so violation of school gives you a Jersey but other people can walk in there and get jerseys anytime they want to understand that it's while it's wrong you're right. It's raw so what I'm saying. So what I'm talking about when I'm talking about is as long as the school doesn't doesn't have to come out of pocket to pay players then you're talking about Marquis guys being able to profit off their own lightness. Not a reality is to elevate your profile. You might go to those big time programs for the television exposure and things of that nature but you were doing it anyway so the only thing that's changed here is that because the individual player could potentially find a way to market himself and a profit of his own lightness. That's less money than advertisers and sponsors might feel the need to throw into the coffers of universities because instead they now allowed to give it to the individual and even then we only talk about a handful of individuals so what's the problem I I well. I agree I just I I worry about the other side of this where the Lower Division One conferences will not let me let me let me say this to you and fairness. I I can respect your concern. Here's my problem. My problem is this and I'm not trying to sit up there and say that you're just oblivious or you don't care about the welfare and wellbeing of those student athletes that have been exploited. How can we never have those concerns for the institutions? How come nobody had these concerns when the institutions were out there exploiting these guys and getting all the stuff that they got off the backs of these individuals that generated this money? How is it that the two revenue generating sports? It's is basketball and football primarily African American participants by the way and everybody suddenly concerned because a few of them would have the opportunity your profit off of their own name and lightness but universities institutions and excetera that clearly are run by White Folks Kasit up there and get all the money that if they can and all the all the advantages perks that they could get off the backs of these guys that nobody has any concerns. Why is that I I completely agree with you and I'm? I'm not saying you're wrong. I'm just saying I have a concern about the other side which also is can can be African American's wealth. I taught to that would be if you've been taking advantage of somebody for years. Why should anybody be concerned about what may may harm you? You've been unharmed. Everybody else I if somebody's a bully and they've been beaten up people you know for years and then Oh my goodness they were about to get into fight with somebody. That's GONNA kick their ass. Are you concerned about that bully. There's been beaten up people falling all the time I get it. I get it I just I like healthcare. There's no there's no answer. We have to take it. Piece says no perfect answer but there is an answer and sometimes the victims goes to spoil. Sometimes Tom Things have to happen too somewhat even the scales his I'll take it on a serious level for you just a second job before we get on Outta here. It's just like affirmative of action on its face of course no one should even come close to having an unfair advantage of course somebody should be given a hand. We should always have of equality and everybody should have the freedom to compete on an equal even playing sale. Nobody would disagree with that. The problem is from an historical stoorikhel perspective other folks other than black folks have had an upper hand systemically and beyond spanning decades if not centuries and so in an effort to try to make up for the lead that obviously you gave yourself for so many years something the thing was was implemented from a policy perspective to address that concern and there are people that will come along thereafter saying it ain't right right it ain't right but the stomach emily looking at this country any advantages there people have for how long they have had it. How did that happen? There was nothing about that that was fair but ultimately he demanded that something transpire to flip the scales to some degree so you could address the issue of inequality that is one one hundred percent true. I've I've got to think about what you've said and I agree with you. I I again. It's just a concern that we need to respect it and appreciate it and you're not you're not wrong. I want to be very very clear. You're not wrong to sit up there and say there's a legitimate concern coming from the other side. The problem is is is legitimate is that concern is they have been the one exercising unfairness and inequality to their advantage and now that something is not today advantage day in the ought roll. We'll let me get my car. Let me get my tissue instead of tier for them. Who gives a damn what they feel after all on their practices they've engaged in all of these US ears appreciate the call eight say espn? It's edited seven to nine three seven seven six back with your calls to close out the show in a minute. Don't touch the Dow. It's Stephen a Radio Serbian news. This is the Steven A. Smith Show podcast. Stephen Drops move lyrics. I said he eight straight. You know what I'm saying. They know has stepping were. I'm ready tune in for College Football Action Tomorrow's the Ohio state hosts Michigan State presented by Dr Pepper Coverage begins at six thirty pm eastern on ESPN radio and the and the ESPN APP back to the the phone to go before we get on Outta here Donald Jilava Stephen Go ahead go ahead. I listened to Colin cowherd. They talking all kinds the trash out the bad man and I wanted to know if now that he has a decent defense which you haven't asked for a long time and even even though it is coach every Roger Does Not make a strong playoff push to super bowl appearance this year or next year does that tarnish his greatness or anything like that could potentially happen if they if their defense holds up to snuff no question about it. I think the thing that you gotTa Monitor and keep your I on is him adjusted a rookie head coach and and the person now that they have available right now Devante Adam seems to be their only weapon scant Ling Toronto Ronald Allison and all of these guys. What are they going to bring to the table? That's a huge question mark but there is no question it of Green Bay's defense hold up to snuff over the next two years and you you don't get anything from Amer Raja's that could certainly tarnish him. No doubt about it appreciate the call Zakia Lava Stephen. They real quick go thanksgiving afternoon. Thank you ran man. I'm tired of the NFL making all these horrible rules that nobody understands like asthma I think last night I watched my rams get robbed of a first down when you know. Aj He goes up there and rarely puts his shoulder on Russell Wilson but in in the first half debut in comedy jumps on my boy Jared Boston neck and no call was made. You don't even you don't even need to make it more complicated located what it is that was not a rough in the pass a penalty on clay matthews that is bogus. It should never been called. It was an egregious miss it. It was agreed on a call against Clay Matthews by the referees there it was horrible. There's no reason with the show a below the neck there's no reason why he should have been called that foul absolutely not and I agree hundred percent hundred percent. My question is when does the NFL going to say hey look we all these replay officials the New York one guy radios down and goes. Hey pick up the flag. You made a mistake third down four hundred. I can't answer that question. I appreciate the call. Thank thank you so much Mike. You got thirty seconds go. Oh Yeah I think I have a solution to the problem is sports. You take the bottom five teams or wherever you want to set the fifth worst record actually get the first pick the fourth the second pick someone so forth it actually forces front manage front office management to put a semi decent product on the field and the players have to compete to actually win more games in the guy ahead of them got to think about that. I'm not sure about that idea but I'll give it some thought maybe when we we have more time to get into it we can discuss it but the bottom line. Is this why you think about the teams that tank that means they stink while waste time thinking about them. We got so many quality the teams to look forward to that's the way I look at it. I appreciate the call. Thank you so much. I'm looking forward to this. Louis Sunday's games can't wait to see Green Bay against Dallas of course keep my is on that interested in Minnesota and the giants as well and I'm GonNa Watch Carson Wentz.

"Getting quote is easier than ever before afford any minute now we should be having NFL inside an analyst Louis Riddick contributes to I take contributes abuse to get up see him on NFL live definitely see him on Monday night football and account down all of that good stuff so if anybody knows what's going on he does if anybody can provide us an accurate perspective about what's going on he can so. I'm looking forward to talking to him any moment now. Whenever we get him on a line he will be here it eight say espn? It's intimate two three seven seven six a couple of things zero. I may have missed field goal last night blowing the game for the Los Ause Angeles Rams but Aram certainly didn't help themselves either a delay of game penalty right before that can ignore that Everett Britt letting the ball go right through his hand so Thomson could intercept it for the seahawks on the ensuing drown on dry before that that definitely definitely played a role allowing carson run four hundred and eighteen yards or twenty seven carries that didn't help matters. We all know that and Russell Wilson looked like like a star. I mean there's no other way to put it Russell. Wilson Right now is number two to he's number two to patch mahomes fully pianist. We can slice in any way we want to but if you're paying attention as hard to ignore what Russell Wilson is bringing to the table. The Dude is completing. Nearly seventy percent of his passes will actually seventy percent of his passes. He's doing twelve thousand a single interception on the season in the first five games. He's passed over fourteen nine hundred yards. He's got a quarterback rating. I forgot what it was it was it was third tier one twenty six Qbr of eighty he's he's been doing it on the line. Promises Louis Riddick right now was going on big time how you got Russell Wilson is number two in league MVP EPA if I had if I had to vote today second Patrick Mahomes and dammit. I don't even know if that's right your thoughts about what you saw. Last night from him is Seattle's victory over the Los Angeles. It was ramps yeah. I think you're right on track with it simply because the way I'd like to look at 'em be pieces this if you took that particular player off of their football team what kind of tangible effect would it have on their fortunes. Look you take Patrick mahomes off Kansas City. They have a lot of great weapons but I mean they they they become. I don't know maybe eight one team nine one team. You Take Russell Wilson off of Seattle's football team. I don't even know if they're five hundred and the things that he's doing for them. The schedule stuff the stuff that doesn't come within the normal structure of a play call is this it's incredible. It really is is I think sometimes the play calls might be Russell. Drop back and do something Russell's dropback. Just create something. We're going to run down here and it's probably not gonna be the way it's it's supposed to be but you just got to make some stuff happen and he he's he's incredible the way he avoid hits in the pocket he never really takes a big shot down the field when he is running any these scrambling beyond the line of scrimmage and he never changes. He's always the same guy always eternally optimistic always has the right outlook on things always never never talked bad about his teammates never talked bad about it he just he embodies almost everything that you think about when you think of MVP so if that's the the case and look at what you said here not only is that the case but you talked about the likelihood of what Seattle would be without him. What does that say about the team that they have? I mean we look at the Rams Johny defensive side of the ball. There's an donal does keep to leave this. Marcus Peters this brokers and others on the offensive side of the ball. You got girly. You've got golf you've got would did you got cop etc.. Where's what's Seattle is seems to be Russell Wilson or bust yeah? It's it's one of those things. Where were you sit over the past couple of years you start to wonder you know you think man I mean why hasn't Seattle been able to really put together a a more formidable roster roster on on its surface as far as weaponry for for Russell Okay and that's not to take anything away from decay metcalf does not to take anything away from Tyler Lockett? It's not not to take anything away from Doug Baldwin when he was there because Doug Bollinger was one of the best receivers games ever seen so these are. These are good football players but they're not you know they're not They're not brandin cooks. They're not Cooper Cup. They're not Robert was they're not tied growing. They're just not so what Russell is doing in that. That context is just extraordinary especially in an offense an offense that really is philosophically predicated on the run. I believe right now. Seattle is six overall in rush percentage. Meeting percentage plays play calls that are run place. Okay I think the right around forty five forty six percent which is where Pete wants it. That's where they were in their heyday. When when marshawn was you know in true beasts mode and the and the Legion of boom was really going on so Russell? It's not like they're it's not like they really emphasized. Is it downfield complex passing attack so what he the numbers he puts up and the efficiency with which he plays the game outside of normal structure makes what he's doing all the more incredible right now did stem and it's. La and that's the way it's been for the last several years now. San Francisco appears on the come up we're porn star Jimmy himself Jimmy Garoppolo my my my thoughts from You r rather I'm interested in your thoughts on San Francisco and how legit of a team are they. They are one of the undefeated teams in the game right now sure when they traded Jennifer Jimmy Garoppolo I thought given the price they pay to get what I was perceiving the B. Premium talent all be someone who you can only gauge it on you know based off very limited resume. I thought San Fran was getting was making one of the great trades that they ever made misery that organization and I know that sound that sounds that sounds dramatic but I really thought Jimmy would be that good baseball for some of the things I had heard from the people in New England about how high of assuming they thought Jimmy ahead so if you if you say that you think that they're that they're in good shape long-term at quarterback they have three very good pass rushers. They need another young corner. Which is why I thought Jalen Ramsey would be someone that they should target? They have a young wide receiver young group of wide receivers fevers led by Deebo Samuel. I think are going to be very good okay they have one of the best young defensive tackles in the League and deforest Buckner they have some of the best last year linebackers in the NFL inside libraries in particular starting with Quantum Alexander so they've got guys all throughout this roster that are sneak. Not I sit here and say sneaky. They just don't get a lot of pub because they're not really you know at the forefront of the discussion. When we're talking about teams that are that we're talking about as you you know potential super bowl winners but they continue to stack win? Stephen and Jimmy can stay healthy and live up to what I thought was tremendous potential based on what I saw in New England and then in the first couple of games that he played there in his first year there San Francisco's go all of a sudden announced themselves onto the scene where people are going to hell. Did they come. I'm from but they've been kind of slowly building it. They've been slowly building it slowly building and they have a big day the big match up this Monday night against the browns. Although the Brown's haven't really proven anything either to go on Monday night and with these two teams that are both on the come up if they can put a woman on Cleveland People Start taking notice and then once they get into their their divisional schedule schedule and they go ahead and bang heads with the Rams and bang heads with Seattle and you know unstop out Arizona people will take them serious and I think that's what's coming those karate was stephen a ESPN radio ESPN news. Let's transition to the NFC or stay with an NFC. We'll go up north are the giants have a game The Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings and Minnesota Vikings in the NFC north. We heard we heard the news. We heard what Phelan said essentially about kirk cousins we see Stefan eggs wants out. What do you make about what's going on in Minnesota and how can they remedy everything really stuck? They're stuck because they have tied themselves to kirk cousins. Obviously the powers-that-be who make the decisions up there. I'm sure thought it through thoroughly Leeann discussed it thoroughly as to what it would mean to go ahead and give him a fully guaranteed contract and what the what that would mean as far as not not being able to get rid of him designing offense that would suit his needs surrounding him or his skill level rather surrounding him with players that would fit fit the kind of offense that Kirk Thrive in office coordinator would WANNA run Allen down the line so I would assume they thought that through thought that out very thoroughly and that this is something that's come. That's coming along right. Now is not something that they thought was ever going to happen so they're stuck there. I just flat out stuck so now it's going to be up to Mike Zimmer Gary Kubiak who's up WHO's coaching staff as well to figure out what do we do as far as now being able to open up this offense more to where we are getting the return on investment that we made incur cousins utilizing him to the fullest was to most not just relying on Dalvand Cook not having our to our number one and number two wide receiver who he paid all this money to now be ticked off of the fact that they're not being utilized allies they way they were because eventually what that's going to do. Is this GonNa tear at the fabric of the franchise and the next thing you know they're gonNA start. Underperforming people are GonNA start losing jobs salary caps going and get thrown all out all out of whack because you're GONNA be starting to try and move and or cut players were gonNA count against the cap in terms of dead money. That's how. GM's get fired. That's how teams get thrown in the cat purgatory. That's how you wind up drafting at the top of the draft because you're having to start all over again. So how do you fix it. You get your heads together and try to emphasize the strength that you have on your offense and roster minimize the weaknesses and they better get that done in a hurry otherwise all those things that I just said are gonNA come to fruition and Minnesota going to be in trouble Louis Riddick. "Hold all the other <hes> set of issues to deal with for short no doubt about and i'm just giving both sides of it 'cause. I'm just trying to read. The tea leaves here about where this may be heavy yeah yeah if on the surface book never liked that could basically render your g._m. In effect and making a a g._m. Bye bye bye title because if that's what happens you're basically saying look winning. Football games means more than guys towing the line here and conducting themselves in an appropriate manner not being in subordinate and not being aligned and then the whole the the whole time conduct conduct detrimental means something totally different for this guy as it does for the other fifty two guys it could set off a firestorm as far as other the thing. I guess that's why that's why it's going to be interesting to see what happens. The seventy two hours louis riddick right here was e._s._p._n. Radio e._s._p._n. News obviously you know where i'm at. I'm in in arlington texas right outside of dallas home and a dallas cowboys or what have you now that they got zeke elliott side. They actually think that they're going to do something this year daily david woody marcus spears have them going to the super bowl. A game has not been played jet. How are you viewing the dallas. Cowboys this year louis riddick. I liked the team on the super bowl though but i know you like all team but they're not going to the super bowl the eagles will be the n._f._c. represented super bowl uh-huh okay and they'll play against the kansas city cheese. Andy reid will get his first super bowl and everybody's gonna be happy. That's how the seasons going to play out so to settle in. Let it play itself out but the cowboys have done fermented job of really getting their their philosophical beliefs in line and then executing like in lockstep as far as how you traditionally and realistically bill so roster. They built the office of line. They're taking okay the defensive line. They're trying to be strong down. The middle have a good running back trying to lock up. The event have one of the best young centers in the league. He's healthy. They got two great young inside linebackers. Byron jones flipped concordes safety. One of the better known players in the league. They've got some nice philosophical underpinnings to serve this football team for a long time and they. I don't think there are when they're not gonna make it to the super bowl this year but there's going to be around for a while. I think dallas is here to stay now. I think they they have now got their base underneath them and they've got their core group of players and i think every year now legitimately your that deal with the cowboys oh boy and that hasn't always been the case every i think they are set up for the long haul now riddick right here with steven a. who got coming out of the a._f._c. last question to you. Oh that'll be that'll be casey onto the super bowl. We're gonna win. The ferrari pattern homes a win the super bowl this year so get onto the super bowl and we're going to beat the philadelphia eagles in the super bowl correct. Okay sure sure you say you're. He can switch back on stuff right roy. That's true i'll give you. I'll give you that. I'll i'll give you the last year. I couldn't find you for weeks now. Come on go back they will oh my a little bit more. It was hard. I got you appreciate this week in all right..

"In order to do dude that very thing which is get on the football field helped him win football games so what i'm saying is. I said i said this this morning. I said this little bit yesterday. You're listening to john talk about antonio. It sounds much different than when you listen to my talk and i think that ultimately when you start reading between the leading. I didn't bring between the lines here this to me. Lean down the road. You're going to see him on monday night. Louis riddick here's my issue money talks and we understand that and we know that the n._f._l. Is all about two things money and control and when you look at the fact that one game that's all it would be one game suspension of antonio brown ultimately positions you to potentially void his deal with eh dish that extra twenty nine million guaranteed because he's got a one million dollars signing bonus if you could potentially void to twenty nine million guaranteed dollars if he continues to act up up and give yourself that leverage. It's hard for me to fathom that the raiders would forfeit the opportunity to have that kind of clout that kind of cachet when all that you pay for it is a one game suspension that doesn't it. It makes sense but i mean there. There may be no and that's what makes this one so tricky so tricky. I think that's what makes this situation so interesting thing because you're dealing with human beings that have subjective opinions and are governed by motion the same way the rest of us arc mark and people get very attached to have become it can become very stubborn and become very narrow minded but very narrowly focused on what they they want to have done and how they want to see things done and how they want to ultimately see it turn out and many times they will do that. Regardless of what objectively seems like the best course of action would be and i'm just saying i think that's a very real possibility here in this case because of the fact that you know in the n._f._l. Right until like last night described obama's lucy green bay packers most people would say often when he warned game so if you lose that one game we still have fifteen more to go and that's something that some people but it was a division game aimed at home that you lost. You'll play sixteen home. You can't give away any so what if the people who are on the side of saying well a._b._c. News the play because it's denver denver broncos. It's at home. It's division game. It's on monday night. Football big spot lots of lots of star power in that game lots of spotlight we wanna blue want to roll out our signing new toward we want everybody feeling good about what the raiders are going to be both now and in the future so we want all of our done out there we want it all out there and if he shows the appropriate level of contrition and the team excess them and the rest of the other guys say hey we're good with it and we can kinda like this over with mike and whatever happened on the practice field which i've heard varying stories about just how explosive that was that hey let's roll with. It and i'm telling you see sometimes even when you're on the inside you know how it goes right. I mean so people may be misogyny a situation to where it all adds up to let have this guy was a bonafide radio all pro superstar that we are here to help us do one thing win game. That's just have him elba's windows. Get all right well. If you do that louis riddick what kind of position does that put mike mayock in if play absolutely that can cause a hold all.

"Guest on the line n._f._l. Analyst extraordinaire for the family e._s._p._n. Doesn't outstanding job when shows up. I take obviously doesn't outstanding job when he shows up on get up doesn't outstanding job constantly on n._f._l. Lob n._f._l. N._f._l. countdown all things n._f._l. One of the great ones in this business my buddy. The one and only louis riddick is on with us right now. What's going on lou our. You met all all good you do it. Okay down there. I'm doing all right. Listen minnie's cowboy skin these cowboy fans. Don't scare me man if anything. They said this can't be going to stay. I got but i know you do that. Let's get right to this man. I mean because obviously the biggest news and and i just you know just highlighted everything you obviously already know about antonio brown and i'm of the belief the rate is would be absolutely stupid not to suspend him because not only does he deserve it because of his insubordination he deserves it because if the raiders you're now in a beautiful position of not having to worry about losing all of that money in the event that you let him go all you gotta suspend him for week one. What are your thoughts about it. Yeah i mean it does seem like they they are. They're set up right now to where they could tip the scales in their favor in terms of sending the right message to the rest of your team <hes> doing something that obviously would enhance their credibility l. d. when it comes to running the overall operation and and and and respect the fact that this is a team sport no one's bigger than a team and all those other things that we aw basically believe in as far as team sports are concerned a lot of right now setup for them to go ahead and make a decision that basically not many people very very few would disagree with but the fact of the matter is. This is the real world the n._f._l. What i'm about to say and that is paid the win. Football games players are not all treated the same as we know we've seen people who have been giving given a lot more leeway who has done a lot less and we know this that wants coaches or people who have ultimate decision making power are fully invested in someone and it is in their own interest to make sure that that individual shines and does everything that they thought that they could do to win football games for you that they're probably going onto side with <hes> those err on the side of making sure that that person has every opportunity that they could possibly get in.

"What does the hillman have to do with running sprints. What does the he'll have to do. We're running routes and catching passes by derek hough but this brother took his old helmet at went home but still expected his paycheck and mike may the raiders nah you want here. Who the hell you think you all to just disappear. Don't show up to work and expect to get paid this. This is what i'm talking about so every time we condone something like that rick and don't catch on a come up to act that way whereas let's get you get you know where this is the reality of the situation. This is what antonio brown. I have not recalled. The only complaint ain't tonio brown had against the oakland raiders was the letter announcing his fine prior to that he didn't have of any issue with the raiders yet. He's been causing him trouble since he arrived so they finally said you owe us money. 'cause you haven't showed up to work and if anybody else ended showed up to work would have had to find them so we can find you and this brother was like nah. It ain't going down like that. Well yes the hell it is. I promise you he lose even more money now. This is the reality so for me. Here's my deal we. We don't want to go as far as saying cut tonio brown. Let's not be stupid. The brothers all world wanna greatest wide receivers in the history of the national. The football league clearly wanted grace in the game today kate he be cancerous to a locker room evidently so we got to address that we can't have up antonio brown acted away that he's been acting but real world talk to greatness greatness comes tolerance those who are great tolerate it a little bit more than those who are not and so we we wanna tolerate antonio brown with the oakland raiders but only to a point to me. The oakland raiders have been handed an absolute blue gift. Here's why before you had to worry about losing him having to pay thirty million dollars and still leaving him to end up on the patriots or somebody else who you know pick them up on a cheap because he's phenomenal dramatic. Tom brady having him to throw the football to me and my god what in this way in this way all you have to do. You got to remember see under that scenario. Antonio antonio brown's still gets his thirty million. He just gets to go elsewhere on the this scenario where you suspend him but you keep him. Oh he's in danger. Having this whole thirty million dollar deal void how about y'all wanna make betty behaves now now if y'all recall oh if you recall antonio brown was heard a few months ago talking talking about he don't need the money is not that important. Y'all see play law. Sometimes you'll see those. There's lots. We tell you i bet you. He ain't saying that today. Lesson learned lesson learn and at eight say e._s._p._n. "And the one thing the one provision that would eradicate the guarantee is that you act like you have some damn sense and you can't even do that. There's nothing to talk about. I if i am the oakland raiders antonio brown suspended right now now because guess what i'm gonna pay you week to week seventeen if you act up if you act right. I'm a pay you you only. Are you gonna miss one game pay and but i have the freedom to get rid of you. I have the freedom to cut you now. Everybody wanna talk about mike. Mayock doc mike mayock is the general manager for the oakland raiders. Mike mayock is an individual that used to work in television doing doing what i'm doing matter of fact. Mike may have me ask an m._b._a. Why the hell do not have a president of basketball operations job. I mean then we give and television commentators and analysts g._m. Jobs in the n._f._l. Hockey get one in the n._b._a. That's our sticking our thinking but i knock in may opt for taking that deal and i'm certainly not questioning his football accurate. What i'm saying is talk about nepotism at its height. The the only thing i said about that is that don't have it for the brothers. I say it again. It don't happen for the brothers john lynch san francisco even though he played mike mayock media do don't happen for the brothers like that but that's neither here nor there. The bottom line is this. Mike mayock hasn't done a bad a job since he arrived in oakland and i find nothing wrong that he did hear the oakland raiders. Ah antonio brown no problem with them. Antonio wanted to forces way out of pittsburgh he did that. He wanted to do so so he could get his money money he did that. He showed up on a shot with lebron. James maverick caught in the crew brother got paid right or is about to get paid. This is what he was talking about right. What oakland raiders gave you your money guarantee. You show up in oakland. You got jacked up feet like a layover. Yellow stuff under your feet look like code. You have this nasty god. Okay you try some cryotherapy ropy treatment in france and forgot to put on your damn socks that was it. The rate is fault then you turn around and what did you do you then have a problem with the helmet now the n._f._l. Has been sued sue for billions. They fixate themselves on addressing safety issues in the national football league. That's what they did so they come not only did they come up with new hill ladies and gentlemen that obviously tested and are considered to be considerably safer safer rather and they've been certified lied etc which leaves antonio brown's film. It's outdated. They informed the players five years years in advance. This was coming for the last five years. They said changes coming this year. Here's what we're going to to prepare yourself and in training camp with eighty nine players on a roster at least over two thousand players in the national football league. Antonio brown is the lone player the low player their father grievance events about what what two thousand plus people played in the n._f._l. Guy what complained about the helmet antonio brown. He was also the one guy that flew in on air balloon right. He was the one guy that missed practice bansi. Oh by the way people usually hide their feet when it looked like that this brother showed it on his great okay then not not only that you go against football league. You're on the phone with the national football league trying to plead your case to wear hillman. That's been outdated because it's over over ten years old and you tell n._f._l. Go f themselves. I'm telling you what i know. Okay so not only did you do that. Then then you fall a second grievance against them uh second grievance against and then in a process because your helmet you didn't like your helmet. Let me ask the question..

I gotta shift gears and i gotta get into this news about antonio. Brown star receiver are now for the oakland raiders formally the pittsburgh steelers who got himself in a hot water because after the oakland raiders led by g._m. Might find him. Chargers, Melvin Gordon And Ten Million Dollars discussed on SportsCenter AllNight

"Time Joseon adders are reporting the agent for Chargers running back Melvin Gordon has requested a trade because charges are not backing off their offer of ten million per season which represents a roughly twice the salary schedule to make in the final year of his rookie deal they remain at a record you know not wanting to report because he feels like he's valuation is higher than ten million when you have to put that in the context knowing that Todd Gurley right now is what at fourteen point three lay beyond del thirteen one David Johnson at thirteen million my understanding is that the comp that in being out there right now is that David Johnson and Melvin Gordon are similar in terms of how they should be paid and they are definitely still at a gap between those numbers and so right now he's going to stay out until the situation gets resolved nice of Gordon toll charges that if he does not receive a new deal that's acceptable obviously he'll sit out demanded trade he's followed through on both threats Louis Riddick Damien woody Chris Mortensen with insight on how this plays out in if Gordon has any leverage in this hold out he doesn't have the leverage because the charges obviously feels so his replacements is number two or number three players like Austin Meckler Justin Jackson will give them enough of a of a level of production a percentage of production may not equal what number will give them enough to where they have enough other weapons on the field to make up the difference and they're just going to go with the you know one year at a time type of philosophy and if he doesn't like it then they're gonna trade I think he's out on the football team before the regular season starts and hopefully he can find that one suitor who not only is willing to pay a high price to get him but is also willing to pay him long term which is what he's after after lands a former running back and running back coach and the one thing I know by if the land he's very confident that he can find another running back you mention it already the fact that Philip rivers in the last year for the of Joey Bosa is coming up they have players in the pipeline so to think that Melvin Gordon's going to get you know the levy on bail early heard Todd Gurley absolute because are guaranteed a lot of people looking to toggle the contract and is like wool we don't want any part of that so okay Melvin Gordon is in a situation where he's not gonna get paid by the Los Angeles Chargers and more likely he's going to be sued no with another team actually ten million dollars is the charges off and that's kind of where the value him and they do have other contracts to get done and they're not a cash rich team we've established that for different reasons that without getting into details Melvin Gordon's only played one full season out of a source for any is a good back is he an elite back you can argue one way or the other but the bottom line is the charges are going to get permission for Bilbo is represented to go get a trade they want to control the situation he's not levy on bills he has a contract levy on bill did not have a contract last year so it's not a similar situation ten million dollars is the charges off and that's kind of where the value him and they do have other contracts to get done and they're not a cash rich team we've established that for different reasons that without getting into details but Melvin Gordon's only played one full season of the source for any is a good back is he in the league back you can argue one way or the other but the bottom line is the charges are going to get permission for Bilbo is represented to go get a trade they want to control the situation he's not levy on bills he has a contract levy on bill did not have a contract last year so it's not a similar situation ultimately I think the charges feeling and we talked about this yesterday and make your Damian Moore and and the lens perspective is they do fill like if necessary if gore insanity assigned eventually then you can put them on the market as a team it is the one with the agent do the shopping Eric Williams covers the Chargers for ESPN provided this take on why the charger should find a resolution with Gordon if they have aspirations to make a run in the playoffs he was on Spain and company yeah I mean it's basically a stand off at this point you know Gordon wants to be paid amongst the highest running backs normally he thinks his his statistics over the last couple years point to that he should be pay you know like David Johnson girly let me del the Chargers obviously disagree on that date they are pricey them again according to reports and and I believe they're accurate about ten million per year you mean another structure the contract how much of that is guaranteed how much that is fully guaranteed when he would receive that type of money so those are things that are going on in terms of negotiations to try to get Melvin in the camp I did the things that are promising if both sides want to get a deal done Melvin Gordon wants to play for the charge the Chargers want Melvin Gordon the place so you would think at some point there there would be a compromise that could be made to get Mel in the camp because he remains to be seen you know Melvins representation that told the Chargers that you know that they would demand a trade at the contract demands aren't aren't made the charges are willing to trade him they basically haven't control for the next two to three years due to make five point six million in the following years rookie deal and they get franchise in another couple years no but it is important in terms of where the charge you want to go in the post season they can win games without knowing the crew that last year they want **** when no one was injured the issue is is can they want simple without melon and I think the answer probably is no and so I think that does give me a little bit of leverage yeah well he might want to look Gordon at levy on bell scenario the now jets running back doesn't second guess himself for sitting out last season a decision that cost them fourteen million in salary he did say you wish you could have told fantasy owners some type of way to not draft him or pick him never made it on the field

Get excited! Only 50 days until 2019 NFL season starts

"His Well well well. I think we've made it today. Marks the first day of training camp for not one but four teams the broncos Raven particles and seahawks and his team now Jaguars quarterback Nick foles joins the show he'll chair his expectations for his first season at the helm in Jacksonville Seville and Hugh the countdown clock. Today marks the fifty day mark until the start of a brand new N._F._l.. Season and we covered the fifty they storylines between this happy to have you with us as we mark the fifty day mark between now and the start of a new N._F._l.. Season I'm Wendy Next Bill Gates Victor Cruz and Louis Riddick and we're going to look at the fifty biggest storylines that will face over the course of the next fifty days and none more pressing says training camp against today at least for for four teams which players Lewis might we not see show up to training camp. Why think to to really that headline villier being cloudy? Melvin Gordon in particular has signed his franchise tender. We don't really know what's going to go on with him as far as when he will report if he's going to you know he'll report at some point or the regular season Starts Melvin Gordon. He's one of these situations where he wants a long term deal. You'RE GONNA play on his fifth year option. He wants to secure is long term financial future right now nope as all running back Zeke Elliot who you saw brief clip there also in that clip right there. I mean he's a guy who has two years left that he can play unders rookie contract. I mean these running backs right now. They feel the accelerated sense of urgency to try and get their long-term deals deals done because they know teams are going younger and cheaper younger and cheap way running back and they understand why and these guys know. They're not going to be fooled into thinking that you can that. They have to prove themselves before they get paid because once they proved themselves a lot of times teams won't pay them. It's a whole different discussion to talk about sort of resetting that running back mark but there is no question that's where we are and that's the reality those players are having to work within right now. Let me ask you this. We've we've seen a number of quarterbacks who are also in line or looking for a contract extension victor who gets one. I think Dak Prescott mainly because obviously his age. She's the youngest of the crew. I mean when you look at Tom Brady as well as Philip rivers. He's the youngest quarterback out of that group that we're talking about. Obviously these other two are phenomenally more accomplished than than that Prescott is at this moment Eh Dak Prescott given his statistics given his age. I think he gets done. I I think the other two guys obviously get extensions maybe much smaller in years because of their as and just kind of give them they've earned that year to year kind of thing and extend them for not too much tom longer but I think that gets paid out of these and when he talked about his other two of course talking about Tom Brady and Philip rivers both of whom will likely say pudding continue playing for the team a little bit different right. I mean the threat of those players to party and go in somewhere else feels unlikely at at this point. Both of them want to get a probably two or three year extension done demet not necessarily conclude their career but it prolongs the current tenure with their teams more familiarity there as compared to Dak Prescott who for the first time and perhaps last time

"The worldwide leader in sports Louis Riddick you're on the program. How are you Lewis? I'm doing good rich. Absolutely. Okay. And I appreciate you providing the inside in our Honda insider report here on this program when you heard Gettleman say that at the combine, what did you think? Well, I guess they'd be compared to what happened yesterday. I was I I didn't see this. I really didn't see this kind of thing happened. And I don't know what kind of interference. Maybe he was trying to run at that time if he was trying to drive up Odell price. Ultimately, he knew he was gonna trade him. Then when people think he was on the block, I don't know really what is tax were. But it sounded believable at the time. Even when our own just Anderson was reporting that people were still calling. What would the thing that? I kept saying was this you can easily squash this kind of thing, but just not picking up the phone. But the fact that they were picking up the phone lead you to believe that it had legs. And I and I was shocked. I was shocked owners you really aren't in the business riches. You know, pant somebody twenty one million dollars in cats. We're not let's not talk about accounting mechanisms like cap space, and all that cats, and they're letting the guy walk, and I know from interviewing there and talking to them Mr. marrow wanted delta workout in New York. That's why he signed him to that contract last year. He wanted him to work out because he knows how special the kid is. He knows and we all can see it's easy to see how special he is. So for this to actually happen some things had to go terribly wrong. As far as the relationships in that building with the people who he's working with or something in order for us, then to turn around months later. Weeks later after day makes that statement and trade him for a mid mid level one a late three that basically four and Djibril peppers. That is not the kind of return. You get on a guy who just gave twenty one million dollars in cash and let them walk up. It doesn't make sense. And I I was shocked. I was right out sock. It doesn't make sense. Because all I'm hearing Lewis is that you know, that he is a handful that he his his personality is so dynamic that sometimes the all always being on. Kind of maybe rubbed people the wrong way. But it I mean, you work with people like that. I mean, everybody listening to this conversation watching right now could probably point out somebody in their workplace just like that. But yeah, I mean, this is the National Football League shouldn't be incumbent upon the coaches or or or ownership to figure out how to make that work..

"But Louis Riddick as a person that's been associated with the NFL for so many years. Do you find that the NFL is being a bit more victimized than they should be in light of the fact that when we talk about? The issue of domestic violence, and what have you it is clearly a pervasive issue throughout our society. It is something that goes on a lot of different places in corporate America and beyond. So to point the finger at a few athletes to sit up there and excoriate not just the NFL brand, but professional athletes as a whole because that's how people tend to look at it some time, you know, it seems a bit unfair in is of many, what do you say that? Yeah, I agree. I don't think it is the fans right to get lazy. And then start to paint everybody with the same brush and say, well, the league is made up of a bunch of women abusers. And I don't think it's fair to stand up and say the league absolutely doesn't care about domestic violence and doesn't care about women's rights and doesn't care about women are treated, but I think the league needs to do a much better job at being vigilant as far as their efforts to find out information and makes her players. Learn a lesson that look in our. Business in our world. We can't save everybody. We can't you know. I wouldn't say let me let me back. I'm say this a lot of people look at sports fair or not Stephen aid to kind of set the standard for how maybe they live their own lives and kind of how they define their own raise their kids. Exactly. And that's not right. But it's the truth. I mean, parents all the time are saying look at that athlete. Look at how hard he worked in how he was able to pull himself out of poverty and take care of his family. You need to be just like that guy. Not even knowing anything about the guy. Right. So you what happens is now the league is putting position. Now, we're all tell you what society overall looks at sports, right? Sometimes say, look, we just want to look at sports as a way to escape sometimes society looks at sports to set the example for them because no one else has set an example for them. So they go or well NFL, why don't you show the world won't you so society how we can actually punish people who do commit acts of violence against women. And so is this your vigilant about it? And it's you are very serious about it. So do something about. This stuff when it comes to cream hunting Reuben foster. And then when they don't then they rip them apart and see leads the league in the league. It's put in this position of wait a minute. I thought we were like football. You know, we were about we're in the business of playing sports. We're in the business of playing football. Exactly now their responsibility has expanded exponentially. Because of how popular sport is. And how important people view sports, and it is kind of a double edged sword it is kind of unfair. But it comes with the territory..

Kareem Hunt apologizes, says NFL never interviewed him about assault

"You know, it's been a tough time for man. I'm extremely embarrassed. Because of that video I last Michael junior here on ESPN radio and the ESPN app, the videos disgusting, like we I hope we it's being spoon fed to us. This is disgusting. And this is the unfortunate part is it always seems like we need a video to believe these kind of acts are possible in these situations that the burden of proof always seems to be that high. So there's that which we can help with all of this begins and ends with Kareem hunt did an awful thing. And then we are led to believe in the chiefs came out and said Kareem was not truthful to us about the nature of these events back when they interviewed him after this incident. And so the chiefs said this video constitutes new information to us were making this decision. He wasn't truthful with us we can't condone this. He's gone. And a lot of people said that feels reactionary now I wanna play to bits of sound for you from Sunday NFL countdown yesterday. This is Louis Riddick are ESPN NFL front office insider talking about why he believes just including the lies that Kareem hunt was released by the Kansas City Chiefs in that interview, rather it just doesn't come off. Right. It doesn't come off as cream really grasping. Exactly. What is going on here? And how explosive this situation isn't how important the situation is. And he really let the kids see cheese. No choice. I don't believe that. She's just cut because there was no video. I believe it was because they really just didn't know exactly what had happened. And he they asked him what happened. And they and he's still did not know rather didn't come forth. This becomes the confusing part here is because the chiefs interviewed him within the NFL takes over this investigation. And it's league protocol where if the league starts an investigation the team will stop investigating and let the league take over. And I assume that just in a general sense seems to be trying to avoid a conflict of interest that makes sense in my mind, but the question. And then can be asked if the league didn't interview him and the chiefs couldn't get a hold of this video a lot of people are going to ask the question. I don't think it's unfair to ask if the NFL or the chiefs didn't know how much did they really want to because it seems like now this came up, and it's it's very reactionary doesn't seem like a lot of this process was proactive, and I was talking to our ESPN senior writer me at times yesterday. And the point got brought up that this in part could be due to the way things went for the NFL when they dealt with the Ezekiel Elliott case in the suspension surrounding that. And how so many people thought they were overstepping their bounds with Ezekiel Elliott based on the amount of evidence. They had their disposal. And so if you're the NFL you've got that swing of the pendulum after it was the complete other way with Ray rice and with Greg hardy and with Josh Brown. And with all these players were people in think you didn't nearly enough. And so that's the other part of the Sam ponders the host of Sunday. NFL countdown spoke about the message this sense from the NFL going forward message. Hopefully that we're going to start sending two women and two men who care in this country is that it doesn't matter. If you love the NFL in rushing last year, it doesn't matter if you're on all our billboards, or whenever you put your hands on a woman, we're done, and I hope the NFL can make that a little more clear the investigation process than they did this time I last year on ESPN radio and the ESPN app, and I thought Sam did a good job of resetting that conversation coming off of Koreans interview. Because there is a lot of we sit around, and we judge the interview, and we judge the suspension links, and we judge all these things I always wonder how productive they are. Because again, it's easy for us all to get up here. And obviously talk about how disgusting this is to see it on tape and how wrong it is. We all know that. We're not dumb. But then we get Jasper Lucas tweets is in cream hunted that interview because he's trying to line up another opportunity with another team. He's still lying. He hasn't shown remorse, and if I'm an NFL GM, I wanna see him out of football for at least a year during which he's doing domestic violence related community service, etc. That's the other thing is I don't think any of us know how to handle this. And we don't listen to enough of the right people in this because I sat and I thought man what's the length of the suspension going to be like for Reuben foster cream haunted. How far will that go for the league? And again, you can address PR in that way. But when you're trying to address the heart of the issue the way so many people in the NFL claim to want to do what do you do outside of just signaling to fans because this is a guy Kareem hunt is going to be back on an NFL football field. So in the meantime, what do you do to make sure that he comes back better? What do you actually do? That's becomes the part. That's infinitely more important. Here's how do we protect the victims in this? And how do we make sure that if these guys are going to because of their football town, we know end up back on the field. How do we? Ensuring if you're the NFL, how do you go and actually live up to some of the things that you're talking about as far as player development and ensure that these guys if they're going to be back come back better and not just come back punished in a way that's going to satiate the mob outside of your door. It's a it's an extremely complicated issue one that won't have any resolution now, but one that will certainly get into more later coming up on golden window as well. We'll switch gears completely getting back to the world of sports and get to the one staff that caught me completely off guard this morning, that's next. It's first and last here on ESPN radio the

"Can they can they win three games in a row and played some of their best football just for that short amount of time. Yeah, I believe they can told up you did it last year when they got the off why can't Dallas do it people? Just don't expect them to do it because they expect them to fault or they expect them to kind of regress back to who they've been which is a team that just blows chances when when? The stakes are the highest this this team looks a little different Louis Riddick. He has been NFL front office inside right here with Steven ESPN radio. ESPN news. We saw we've seen rather Aaron Donald get paid. We saw a Khalil Mack. Get paid particularly when you hear guy like DeMarcus Lawrence opened his mouth who've got franchise tagged before this season began. And now, you know, you're in a position where you you might need to take care him considering how much money they're worth how much money's DeMarcus Lawrence worth to the Dallas Cowboys, the Marcus says the top jeez. As far as ED's Clair's concern as as good as anybody in the league. So. Does he work? What Justin Houston's getting paid as he works somewhere in the vicinity, where von Miller is getting paid. And That's that's what I'm what asking. I'm asking. I'm just talking about one. Is he end when other guys he's there? He's there. He's there. And I'll tell you this the greatest compliments says you can get as a player as when other people respect you. And I know the teams that played against the Dallas Cowboys last year in particular and worrying about this. And I think he's playing even better. Now, does this the first thing you do when you're playing Dallas Cowboys figure out what number ninety s 'cause he will wreck your whole afternoon. Will wreck your whole afternoon. Let's transition to the AFC before we get on outta here. What are your thoughts about the patriots? And where they are right now. They scare me a little bit. I'm I'm a little concerned about him. Because when you're talking about margin for error again, their margin for error is very slim. They don't have the we're we're gonna see what we're gonna see if gronk can stay healthy because he changes everything they can do offensively. We'll see Josh Gordon b can become that deep threat Julian's going to always be Julian and the Sony. Michelle can remain healthy image as white or great one two punch the kind of play off each other. How is Tom feeli Brady? How's he feeling? He just hit a slump is he feeling better. Now is there something wrong with and physically? They're not some we're there's a lot of question marks with them. So that worries me because there's so many question marks depends on whether or not dominant by any means by any means, they beat you cerebral defensive with God knows what's coming. They don't beat you physically. So it worries me a little bit with them. How much of a threat do you perceive? Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens being. He's gonna make his third straight start. This week. Well, they'll try and be the same way. Dallas tries to beat you a great defense. Strong running game opportunistic passing game. It's just a dachshund better passer at this point to Lamar is. So if you're if you're gonna compare those two teams, but that's one meal hand win this that if they really want to win big if they really want to be taking very serious Lamar has improved his passing especially outside the numbers and down the field if he can do that. It's a scary football. What were your thoughts about Big Ben Rothlisberger open and his mouth and being critical of his players this week?.

"If if Jalen was a quarterback, I still think Alabama would be undefeated. They're just that good there that and you look at the running back. They got four guys that will be legit running backs in the NFL. They got three receivers that will be pretty high traffic. They got tight in. That's a mismatch for anyone their offense. Align has to all Americans. There has been getting better all year. Maybe there's a one of the best defense is in the country. Now, it's a ridiculous team from top to bottom. Listen, they have backups that are better than some teams starters. Even in the top ten. It's a ridiculous man of riches that they have. And I and by the way, Jalen hurts would also be a top twenty quarterback that led his team to two national titles.

"It's gonna take a lot to beat them. It will take a lot to beat them on a consistent basis, but in the NFL they don't play series. They play off games, especially when it counts the most in the playoffs. It's do or die single elimination. So I'm just worried a little bit about the fact. I don't wanna hear the players saying that four games in the season. I want to hear that Louis Riddick which you're talking about getting to the quarterback and the importance of doing that generalizing, we know what the story has been over the past. We clay Matthews complaining about the new rules and how soft the game is become an hour. It's compromised, a team's ability and. Willingness to get to the quarterback, Josh Norman has done the same thing. DJ swearing you went on a wreck and talk about it's an insult of football and what football is supposed to be about. You talk about the importance of getting to the quarterback. But right now there is I, I don't know how much fun there is in getting to the quarterback in looked like you might get flack from having bad breath for crying out loud. That's how bad the rules appear to be right now. What's going on with that situation. And why did the National Football League who met for a couple of hours this year, the competition committee and others, and they said, you know what? We ate in anything. What does that about? It's about they want protect their moneymakers. That's what it is. They want to keep Aaron on the field. They wouldn't keep big bend on the field. They're going to keep Tom on the field. Patrick Mahomes. They wanna keep these guys on the field at all costs because they know when those guys aren't playing fan interest starts to go downhill because they think the game gets affected adversely to the point where they don't wanna watch. Look, they, they don't wanna watch backup, quarterbacks play. They just don't in the league, knows this. So they're going to do everything they can to protect their investment in protect. The guys who really drive viewership in the NFL that that's really in a nutshell. That's what it is. I will say this though, still the only way you can slow down offense of scoring and slowdown from being an aerial salt every game is to affect the quarterback because the further you move away from the ball, the more likelihood there is for high impact collisions in the league doesn't want those either. Now they're not calling them at the same rate. They were calling them in the preseason, but I promise you this, let some guys start laying some people out. They'll start dipping into players pockets and suspending me get some of that. They shove Big, Ben RAF I noticed shows about, and I mean, getting caught for the way the most ticky tack vows Magic's. You know what you have to continue to try and affect the comfort, the level comfort of quarterbacks. Otherwise you might as well not even go out there because they have, we know everything's in their favor, but you have to affect the last night. What we saw was this remember when Aaron when Aaron he took. Kirk cousins. It's slung around to him to the ground, right? I mean for a while there, I thought that's going to be called a personal foul because this look disrespectful way to them on the ground so you can still put the quarterback down..

"Now you're fighting for a wildcard spot instead of fighting for division title. So it's predictable, but it's alarming and they need to kind of turn it around best in two thousand. I'm telling you feed me league wide. This is, I think one of the number one reasons why you play from some teams. There's one because of how they're putting together, meaning their butts guys or maybe familiar with each other. And mostly because those guys weren't really with other aren't playing in the preseason very much anymore because everyone's trying to make sure that their best players healthy, no, keep them healthy until the regular season. Start that off something. I talked about a couple of different times and I could just play itself out Louis Riddick right here with Steve name on the ESPN radio and ESPN news. Let's transition AFC west real quick. I sorta charges lose, but it was to Kansas City which is relatively could give considering at high powered offense that they have. We saw Denver would von Miller just reek havoc and handed it business defensively last week against Seattle. And then of course we had the Oakland Raiders now to me Oakland. Jon Gruden, Derek Carr. They've got to work some things out. Amari Cooper being targeted just three times that's problematic, but. Also the return of Montana's Brian. I understand it from a business perspective, had you not cut them and you'd be obligated to guarantee those dollars for full year by letting him go and then bringing them back the team control, not him, I get it, but considering the fact that another suspension could be lurking. Okay. Or is lurking. It's possible. I don't know if I would have brought him back Louis Riddick. What about you. Yeah. I mean, look, a lot of that the raiders right now are doing don't really make a lot of sets could be in terms of do a Sophoclean, how you build a football team in the hell. You basically run your football operations and you know considering what they're trying to get done there. But look, I think right now they're team that kind of they're doing some pressure right on right out of the gate here because of how poor the performance was because of the expectations that are on their head coach right now because much money, he didn't pay. And I think they're going to try just about anything that they w and they don't really care what anybody else thinks about how they're going about their business or how much they make it make sense or it doesn't make sense. But I am alarmed about that football team because I thought it would look much better as I stood down their own the field watching play the Rams. They looked out classmen that really did book out class that I know and John these types of things up out there and get everybody pointing direction and believing because when things are going south in the NFL like this. Scary. Anything goes south in a hurry with people don't believe in the leadership at the very top because they're making moves like this that don't fly in the face of conventional wisdom. So I hope they're able to turn that around AFC west Liz is a powerful most division as far as concern, not they're running the right way, their coach the right way them Broncos there that I think is going going to surprise people. And I know we've both like case keenum and I think that's going to be a team that's going to be in the end is forest fight for that division title chargers? Unfortunately, continued to underperform. They're going because it's one of those teams that I expected them to be much better. So it's like the raiders have to keep going. The ladies figure some stuff out very quickly. And I think see them makes move. They make you scratch your head. Then it's all about trying to get a job loser in a group to get on out of here..
