"I go straight to labels on identity but i think that there's other things in here to talk about the emotional system energy the various narratives being two older too late or too broke. Leave all of this stuff behind to get to. What's next well. we don't. I mean that would be amazing if i had a magic wand and could do that. Oh my god what. I do that for so many people but we have to start noticing where we are saying because of ax. I can't even consider the future. That is the essential part of leaving behind how we are creating ourselves a little prison or a big prison of our own making because the past is no longer possible or the past has created conditions in the present that we say that's it why future is doomed. That's what i wanna keep pointing out to people and we do it in different ways if we're ill. We do at around sickness energy. If were old we do at around age. I'm not saying that there's there's lots of things. I'm not going to do in my life at fifty seven in the future right. That's just not going to happen because you know i'm certain physical capacity. You're going to have a baby okay. I'm not saying we're denying reality. But we create these narratives these stories and they just keep snaring us over and over again and you hear it you hear not in your own language usually but when you talk to people right and they're they're so good at being so adamant about what's not possible because of and so it's bringing attention to that and getting curious about that that i'm trying to get people to start because again i can go back to that time in my life and i was so vehement because of mistakes that i've made because of changes that have happened the i would. I would fight with bob about it would fight with him about what was not possible. Because of that's what. I want people to pay attention to you. Know i love that because i think that you know. I grew up in a culture. Unfortunately we just had been all here. We're talking about how in the indian culture particularly for women. There's such a double standard. I think a eventually with age. If they're single an indian woman is my agent single. I think she has a much worse time than i do. Being my agent single because that whole oh every day. It's less and less possible for you to meet somebody or get married or have a baby or whatever. It has really as pervasive in our culture. But i don't think we're alone when it comes to that. But i also appreciate the fact that you pointed out. There are things that are not going to be possible with a journalist. And we'll store here. Who wrote this store. We'll was one of my favorite interviews last year. And he said you know this is what culture does these days. It sets this unusually high standard for success..

And you know i. I literally took one-sentence you gave me and turned it into six figures so Needless to say a fan of yours have been of your work You have a new book out which we will talk about but as you know i very rarely start any interviewed by talking about your work. sorta start by saying what is one of the most important things that you learn from one or both of your parents that influenced and shaped who you've become an what you've ended up doing with your life. I would say that. My dad taught me that when the going gets tough the tough get going. He was in world war two in the pacific theater. My dad was quite a bit older. When i was born and that both has been something that has gotten me through some really difficult tines to dig down deep and go and keep going and keep trying. He was a very much a self made man. He was born into pretty great Poverty and got out of the war and got home from The pacific an spent many many years building a supermarket little supermarket. Empire in the sixties fifties sixties. And so i would say that toughness is something. I really learned from that. I can also say that. That has led me at times to Grinding myself into rubble. It wasn't always. I didn't always take it wisely. And i think from my mom. I really learned to be a good hostess to not something i do when i teach.

But even after he turns in his gun and badge, he goes home and there's something going at him and he just keeps looking and looking. And lo and behold, he finds the evidence is this one of those situations? Where the president should just stay on the case, because it is, you know much of a long shot. On how they view it the consumer once they have access the Roku platform either via a Roku player or TV with the rogue operating system built in, they don't pay the platform directly to access content, and so there's a lot of choice on the platform in thousands of APPS TRUMP Right now what, what I what I'm really suggesting is that the streamers themselves Obviously have to pay some percentage in all of this, and my question to you is at some point, do you think there's going to be an argument that a roku could have too much power and the reason I ask is right now there's a big debate whether someone apple on their on their own devices has too much power in terms of which apps on phones which streamers are going to be on your platform for example, well, I think, yeah Roku has is the leading streaming TV, platform in the US certainly, there's a large TV go system with content producers, advertisers, retailers, and then the consumers, of course. You know historically, we have taken a mutual position and so you know really we're we're open to having all contents on the platform. We've structured our our revenue streams with the content producers. So that you know when they do well on the platform, we have Sharon abortion of that I think the important thing to note on that front is that the the content producers that are leaning in Sirocco and leaning industry mean are are winning in that and Disney plus is a great example. You know they launched in Q. Four in they've made tremendous growth We're a a strong partner with Disney they've leveraged our audience development. Capability, signed build up Steve's. Elsewhere Steve, tell us where where these negotiations stand with the lights HBO Max. Peacock owned by our parent company. Those are those are not on your platform right now, what's what's the problem? What are the fault lines in those in those discussions because clearly the platform is you just described is not neutral in so far as it's negotiating. On behalf of the company. With or against other streamers. Yeah and and you know we don't talk about any specific dealer negotiations. But like I said, we do aspire to have all the content on the platform. Because the consumer is not pain Roku, the economic model, for rope. is related to these content distribution agreements on one side. In advertising revenue is one of the other pieces of modernization form that that is necessary for us to continue to invest in the business both in terms of developing great players and the TV operating system is well as continue to innovate. In the user experience. So as I mentioned, our revenue model is is in the form of advertising is well as revenue shares when we signed up new subscribers or their transactions on there. So certainly there's we have thousands of APPS, and in a lot of times these absolutely there on the platform or renewed without anybody really noticing, and occasionally we do get some sticking points but you know hopefully we'll be able to get through those. Okay see we really appreciate you joining hope we can continue this conversation Oh watch your growth has been a remarkable thing and There's so many different issues in the space that you're living in right now look forward to talking to you against Steve thanks. Thanks Gentlemen.

"Public school, Louden County public schools 12 and Global village school officials from each same or parents are opting to homeschool their kids than in years past. In sgps 1000 more kids will be home schooled this warrior compared to last. And in Louden County, the number of parents choosing to homeschool their child has more than doubled. Lock of predicts that number is only going to go up. But there's a huge flocks of people that are going to be home schooling, and I think parents are just goingto. About the school. Just let the school know when it's good for them. And because of that home school programs are seeing an unprecedented number of applications. We've had to cap enrollment for the first time in our 20 year history. I think that we're going to see overall close T to 50 to 75% increase over last year. That's W Yusa nine, reporting on the number of applications for homeschooling just storing in our area, parents pulling their kids at a public school during the pandemic, cause they want their kids to get an education and this is just going to continue. I think this whole thing with keeping the school's closed and then the teachers unions are refusing to go back to school. I think it's gonna backfire bigtime. Big time. In fact, there's a whole bunch of parents who have decided. You know what? Maybe I should shift gears like this is this pandemic confronted them in a way to think about So is this the education? I even one for my Children? Like, what are they learning? I mean, maybe you got to spend time with your kid watching what they were learning while they were getting virtual learning the spring and then thought Whoa. I didn't know that that was in the curriculum. Now. I'm not going to do this myself. We're going to do this for real. We're going to this myself and your parents maybe learn that they could do it themselves. Maybe they've changed if they have the ability to do that changed the course of their careers will work with their spouse to do that. I know the private schools in our area have waiting lists. The private schools in our area are trying to add classes because they're opening while public schools aren't so there's a lot that's going on here and parents are. This is this sort of moment is reckoning. They're like. Wait a second. Maybe I don't want transgender reading day at my at Arlington County Public schools. Maybe that's not a good fit for my kid. Maybe they should be learning. You know, reading, writing and arithmetic like I expected they would be. I think this has actually been a blessing. In some ways. When it comes to school choice, which the left doesn't want, they may have inadvertently just given it to the masses. It's 8 49 and Patrick was way behind on his I R s tax is that was in way over my head. The total amount ended up being somewhere just over $30,000.30,000 dollars. Then the I r s came to collect started getting letter after letter Lean had been filed against me. They were going to basically like, hang me completely out to dry. He had to do something. That's when I reached out to optimum tax relief. Patrick's life quickly got a lot easier. Very easy. Pretty much hands off. You know, they picked up the ball and ran with it and how to go. I couldn't believe it. I had to ask like two or three times I saved an incredible amount of money. How does Patrick feel about Optima? Couldn't be happier. They definitely help me. Kevin Nash Among Those Picked For the WWE Hall Of Fame

"So we got hall Nash Hogan and Ex Pock going into the hall of fame in Twenty Twenty as the N. W. O.. All are already in Spin Your wacky and Batista is also going in and that leads to this person's question here. I find it weird that out of everyone that was in the N. W. O.. Only Hogan Hall Nash. And Chandra being inducted in the hall of fame might get the first three guys are important because they're the founders but sean being the only other one added his weird especially since guys like Diaz in big show joined before him. Listen really listen my friend. The hall of fame is a Gimmick. The hall of fame is a Gimmick television ratings and to get people to buy tickets. And you do that by presenting big stars and on top of that even if you consider this a real hall of fame which it's not yes. DB OSCE was in before xbox but was a manager who did nothing in one day just disappeared like there was nothing nothing hall of fame worthy about the end of the the big show was in there as in and out in and out in and out he turned fifty five times. Seems like the core of the group Shaan Waldman was a core of the group. He's actually one of the guys you think about when you think of the show as well more so than the big show but at the end of the it doesn't matter Shawn's available and they want the four guys all their. They want to sell tickets based on their names and Batista's name the fact that the announced everyone so far in advance tells me they probably weren't happy with how things went last year. So they're getting all these names out here now to sell a whole bunch of tickets and I'm sure that someday big show is going to go in as has the big show the pregnant. I want to do that when I and then later they can put him in with this faction that faction but I don't think it should over think who's going in they want and stars to be given rings that's it and obviously they got a quota so you can have a woman this year. You can have a legend this year you you can have whatever their pioneer wing is this year. I mean that's just the way things are going to go. It's a payday. It's a rang that later on. You can pawn if you need to you. You know that there's it's hey it's it's a celebration and it is what it is. So is Shawn Watson not in as a member of the X louden they deacs not lou the wwe hall of fame takes win last year. So shall Walkman in with that yes so there's a possibility now that he's in with the end of Yo that we can still. Oh get the one-two-three kid inducted into the hall of fame and Shaul Maltman can get into the hall of fame three times maybe we can give him some lightning kid as well tube. At least the one two three kid has got a chance to make it into the hall of fame. That's what you telling me. Yeah they're multiple people in Multiple Times. I'm sure that's what's the record. I want to see him. Go in. I mean could bury layers twice. He's probably go in three times. You may be in three times by now. I think he's only emphasize though we'll never run out of people people I know you think that we will because they have to bring in so many people. We've already ran out of Michael. No no we're repeating. Listen to me very dr so can make it in the repo man can make it in a demolition smash can make it in Who else was it? The Golfer could make it Mike. You're you're you're missing my point my putting in the a Golfer you've already ran at a people by putting people in twice you've already ran at a people. We ran out of people. The Madison Square Garden Ring. Bell is actually should be in the hall of fame. It's in my own personal hall of fame. That distinct Rengel should be in the hall of fame. That's the direction we're going with this thing actually is we're going to get nanometer objects objects into the hall of fame because we've already got gimmicks going in concepts like the end of your show groups I I guess that's how you're calling this but like why not just have random things things the gobbledygook egg could be in the hall of fame soon.

"Having on. Sex his. Don't even. Wow. I haven't heard that since college your face almost like what is. That's incredible that you found that I can't believe that as it feel to hear that if feels weird. I mean because I, I don't even I'm trying to remember who that was saying those, those lines, but. Yeah. That was a long time ago. But there's a lot of enthusiasm. Well, it's really resonating. How did you manage to pull such a huge crowd into check, I show. You know that's the thing we, we, we didn't really think too much about that. We just wrote from a place that felt or real to us. And and, you know, we were telling these stories about Asian Americans and a good percentage of the UCLA campus is Asian American. And they just showed up. We were shot. Yeah. We had lines going all around the, you know, down the campus just snaking all around campus. And it was really an eye opening experience to, to see the the hunger for, for. You know, these people who wanted to see reflections of themselves on stage it was it was, it was wild. Yeah. Wonderful Louden wonderful. Yeah. Great. So back then you were actually working on a degree in Asian American studies. Did you know at that point in time that this was your career path, though? You wanted to be an actor you want to be United. I didn't know until like that. That show. Yeah. And I wasn't even I was just the narrator in that show. I wasn't even like one of the stars of the show. I just wrote the play. And I there was like a narrator character who come out and narrate the show and yeah, I just I just it was, it was so fun and thrilling. And I think that seed got planted probably during that performance that you just play which is so I can't believe you. Taking your head. Like, there's like a serious sense of the real moment way back there. Yeah. Because that show the premiere of that show was, I mean, I think it was pivotal for a lot of people in that cast and a lot of them who eventually graduated with me. They ended up working in the industry in different capacities. Some of them are writers. Some of them are actors some somewhere executives in the industry. And I, I really do think that, you know, the, the seeds were planted during that specific show and the shows to follow. I mean it was it really filled us with this sense of purpose. That's a massive. Yeah. And then virement nurtured, nurtured, you, but you went from that nurtured environment where there's all this support to, like the real world of going out to dishes, that experienced jarring. Because we were in such a bubble in college. You know, and, and we were able to tell our own stories, and we were able to play whatever we wanted. Yeah. And then and then, you know, it wasn't until years later, that I was like, okay, I'm going to pursue this professionally. I'm going to be an actor and it wasn't like that in the real world. You know, it was a lot of. Side characters that were very one note and. That was just the reality and the when I first started acting the thought of being able to tell an Asian American story or a story from an Asian American perspective on a on a, you know, a national scale or let alone internationally. I mean it was unheard of the, the belief was that no one would relate to these stories. That was the. I mean, you'd hear that blatantly and said in the industry, and you kind of thought I wonder if that's true. I wonder are people that close minded and for awhile, I thought that I kind of bought into that, and then just over time. With the success of numerous projects, and, and just kind of realizing that we're all human. You know, it's like people can identify identified with, with, you know, people who don't look like me. All right. Well, yeah. So, so, yeah, it's. Hollywood is very late, but it's happening. Now I feel like and this many years later. L L, C C realizing at ninety six that there was a hunger for this and all these years. Just. Catching up to that moment. Soli. It's it is. It is. It is crazy, but it's happening and it's hopefully it's not a trend because I don't think it's a trend at this point as long as we keep pushing and telling these stories I think it all proved time and again that. There's good business, telling these stories and, and hopefully we'll get so point where we could have won that fails and is horrible. But that doesn't set us back because there's so many more stories to be told it's a lot of responsibility and a lot of, you know, feelings about if this vehicle doesn't fulfil all the things that they might not gonna let you do this again. Yeah. I mean when, when fresh off the boat premiered, it had been twenty years since the last Asian American family on network. TV. Right. So, so we, we were about to air and the thought was okay if this doesn't like connect. It's gonna be another twenty years. I don't think people that don't inhabit bodies marginalized bodies. P O C, whatever you wanna call it. Don't experience that feeling because for them, it's like the stat quo. And those stories are there. It'll be another story. Yeah. The, the, the weight attached to. Yeah. Surprise, surprise that if this doesn't work twenty years do this again. Yeah, it's a lot of pressure. And, and every time we're out, you know, we're out in public. It's pressure and the pressure to represent. It's like we just want to act or we just wanna ride just want to host the show. We just wanted, you know, without having to have the an entire community on our shoulders, but I mean, don't get me wrong. I I'm I'm thrilled to represent, but it's a lot of pressure. It is a lot of pressure. And this is not the only creative outlet you have you may may music as well stick. Listen..
