It was the most well armed party. I think i've ever been to. I've been to a few of those Said it was probably the safest place in the world at that exact moment at least the safest place in northern new hampshire the at that moment i mean pretty well armed but but you know what i mean. The guys are for the most part libertarians. At least according to the ones that showed up at the protest last weekend. I think it was two weekends ago or whenever it was there was fifty statewide protests. That happened and i went to the one that that happened in concord and there were five bigalow boys at showed up very small contingent. Sheriff which of course. Why would they all show up at hawaiian shirts. I assume most of them. I think we're in hawaiian shirts. They had their blue flag or the competition. Are they in competition or real armed warfare. Say against and or the other organization used to double. They don't go out. They don't go out and fight people. They're just prepared for what they think is impending they think there's going to be some sort of civil unrest that's coming the s will hit the fan and they wanna be prepared with you. Know plenty of rations and plenty of arms to get through. Whatever is going to happen there but they do. Tend to be libertarian. The guys that were at this event were straight up libertarians. They were talking about the non aggression principle. There's an interesting video over at freakin. Dot com that. Vincent made of the event where you can listen to these guys talking and talking about freedom and and what it means to them and it wasn't just the new hampshire guys when when we were looking at the blue protests that happen in other places they all had very similar very libertarian talking points and they were all kind of staying too well. Those talking points are they believe in the united states. Gas to touche's. I don't believe it exists or did they support it as a document. Yeah believe it as a way to like. I'm a patriot. Marine well very inactive reserve but believe in the system. I would say probably not. I would say that from what they were saying that they are not fans of the system that they don't like it very much at all but they they understand that they're probably not going to be able to change the system so they're just preparing for the worst when the system collapses or whatever it is. It's going on when i did. Talk to them. About secession or new hampshire declaring independence from the united states. They didn't seem like they thought that that. Was you know the it was the time for that idea that they hadn't really considered it Very much so. I did give them some information about that because i think it is absolutely time to consider those things david. Thank you for the call tonight. I appreciate it The number here is six zero. Three two eight three sixty one sixty but it was refreshing. The these boys were very libertarian. Guys the media loves calling them outright. Yeah but i have yet to meet. I'm not saying that don't exist. And i'm in new hampshire. Which is sort of libertarian. Anyway so any boobs boys. I'm going to meet are probably going to be libertarians. But still yet to meet and all right but boy they did. They call themselves the proud boys. You're saying y'all writers call themselves proud boys. Yes the the outright equivalent of bigalow boys would be the proud boys that go out and they look for fights but that's not the equivalent of the blue because the big lou's not going out looking for fights there is the big boys aren't all right. That's right now. They did say the super majority of them are libertarian. There may be some big lou boys who aren't libertarians. But from what they were saying They definitely are libertarian. Guys and they did say there are some big lou gals as well so. It's not a extreme. It's not a males only organization but of course if there are ten or twenty times their number again only five of them showed up. there's hundreds of times Their number in new hampshire. Obviously they don't all want to come out because you don't want to tip your hand you code. Well it is called but but you know the government was watching this right like there was a drone sky. There were y-yeah send the dronut up at the governor's house multiple times anywhere. There's there's a group of protests the drone is around the state police drone paranoid much. Yes so they sent the drone up and they wanted to see what was going on with this this protest. They wanted to see who was going to show up. But it was just a handful of guys and then a handful of other libertarians. That kind of came otherwise. It was all media. There were more media there than there. Were boogie guys. And as many media people's there were cops around so as mostly media and police at this particular venues very interesting sort of the dynamics of it but i think the media wanted these boulou boys to be proud boys. They wanted them to be all right. They wanted them to be you know pro male. they wanted them to be. You know these a right wing racists or something like that. But they weren't any of those things these were like completely reasonable well-spoken pro liberty guys and they did not meet any of the preconceived notions.

"Any reason for that when heads of property damaged and stolen last year. I never once involved the police. Because i don't want to work with police. Say i'm not gonna say that there isn't a time where where somebody shouldn't work with the police. I think that if they're conducting a murder investigation or they're conducting a rape investigation or something where there's an actual real violent criminal out there on the loose. I i don't have any problem with somebody saying hey you're looking for this guy in this car. And he passed by my house today or whatever with that assessment but the odds of me encountering or having any sort of information about a rapist or a murderer so astronomically low that. I don't consider it a realistic possibility. No doubt but there are some carias past against it. When we look at very cooper okay whose biggest claim to fame is how to make money drugs and he used to be a used to be a police. Officer who trained. Canine berry. cooper was doing bad things referring to bury cooper from never get busted dot com. And gary cooper was a cop and then he decided to join the side of good and has been trying to make things as right as he can by doing. Good works after. He left the police so he's not an undercover officer anymore. He's not doing bad things anymore. He has actually changed his life. Now has cario changed his ways. It's been less than a decade in. The problem is is an anti police organization. The problem is is status. They just want the state to do what they want. That's a good point sure. Exactly what ricky party is doing except Leading organizations which i'm not i'm not a big fan of the voice. I'm voluntary minister. I don't i don't look at Somebody like enrico cario and go. Yeah i would say about his side but there might be a time where he might be doing something that i agree with and i would join him armed. Okay well maybe so but just know that. He's a snitch. I mean you know if you wanna work with this guy that his history of having been a snitch. Know that know that when the pressure was on this guy cracked and he turned on his own people. That's what you need to know. And when the pressure was on and he just wanted to he did it as risk. Well yeah that's what we don't know. Why did this guy keep doing things. Why did he go do things at his own risk. Who was he trying to impress Within the federal government. there's some. There's something to this story that we don't know you know that's just we're we're seeing. He did what that cop you mentioned did. Only this guy went. -tario went the other direction. Like i got busted and you know what you're right. All that stuff i was doing was wrong. I need to go out there and find all of these people who are doing that wrong thing and turn them in and then formed organization to attract a bunch of right wing people that are likely to use violence and and gin up more violence. I tend to view the related. Go ahead we can't his mind. That's the problem is that you know we. We can't trust him because he was a former format. Or we can't trust barry cooper because was a former cop. Well there's no reason. Not to trust barry cooper because he's turned to the side of good and has had no other you know he's been antiwar on drugs for the last fifteen years at least of his life has produced multiple videos Proving that he put his own family and his freedom on the line to to create cop busters which was an undercover police sting operation which busted paluska undercover. Sorry busted corrupt cops down in texas. They hated him so much for what what he did. They came after his kids tried to take his kids from him. He had to flee the united states to move to mexico where he currently is still to this day. I mean i would trust barry cooper but what about in in various super third year refill about him in his thirty s. Doing this we would support ideologically. What i'm saying is what is that in his first day of trying to right. His wrongs much less than thirty. Yes yeah he's not saying sorry. He's denying he was involved. He is not out there trying to right. The wrongs of the people to he turned in for human smuggling right. Presumably reciprocal fraud presumably. He's still working in the same area. Still doing favors for the federal government because he seems to like it or at least he did for some number of years of his life. Which wasn't that long ago at the very least not they're making. Hey this is how to commute commit from a suitable fraud and actually get away with it videos right well as long term interest. I can't look at it but they did. You know pharmaceutical fraud and You know that's such a bad thing to say about him. I mean i don't know if you badly. We're not saying that he did anything bad with the pharmaceutical fraud. He wasn't alleged to have actually harmed. People pharmaceutical fraud is in permanent. Understand the selling of pharmaceuticals and profiting from them without you know going through the official channels basically purchased Insulin or something like that for diabetes and then they were rebranding and selling it. Yeah. it's somewhat fraudulent. They are saying that this brand get that but again that all has to do with intellectual property more than anything else. This agress which i agree with as well but then he turned against those people and put them in prison and that was a very bad thing for him to do it right now. Why doesn't he say he's sorry instead he's saying. Oh i don't remember. I don't recall and you're saying why don't we trust this guy. When i'm saying that. I do a google search for travelers leader in my first three top stories on google search are from reuters. Nbc and associated press talking about how he was undercover performance. That's because it's breaking news right just work that helps their cause and how it helps helps the cause of the government. The leader of proud boys anti-government. They just want like to be their leader. I understand that and the problem always have some respect from some anxious that i've seen. Are you saying you think the government through their informant under the bus here. I think that's a possibility because you can't ever say not without proof. Obviously format though. I don't know why we should give an informant benefit of the doubt to hell with him. Obviously we don't know for sure what's going on here. But if he is or wasn't informant and if he's still is an informant then it's the governance interest to keep him in his position to keep him right where he is doing. Whatever it is that he's doing setting people up suggesting things to people or whatever role. They've got him in there so what. It sounds like what happened here. Is somebody on the outside. Somebody in the news media uncovered this information and went public with somebody else who who is likely not with the government Went public with this because they just they just out their undercover agent. They just outed their informant in the proud boys for the question is why did they do that. Well that that's a great part of the capitol hill riots. Which by the way. He wasn't in dc at the time he was arrested like two days before the riots. Because i remember hearing about that. What was the rest for your call. Six hundred to eight hundred sixty one sixty adrian. Thank you for the call tonight. I appreciate hearing from six zero three two eight three six one. I don't want to take back the country. I leave me alone. It's lost. I mean there's no chance even if you even if you really love the idea of the united states you got to get to the point where you have to admit. It didn't work out. It's not working out and it's not going to work out. People are not going to come together. They're not going to want to build this thing. Whatever with other you know different different minded people. They're not going to do it. They cannot get along. It's time to separate. It's time to end this experiment. It's been an absolute you know it was. It was good in some ways there for a while there was somewhat of a free market or freer market and there was a lot of wealth that was created for the people year. There's no doubt our lifestyles are pretty easy. Living compared to a lot of the rest of the world. But it's it's still failed experiment. And it's time that we look declaring independence. And i think that whether it's texas or california or or new hampshire. Somebody's gotta say goodbye first. And then we'll see the domino's start to fall tomorrow night. Can you explain any of this to me and furthermore my favorite question which nobody is answered yet. Retribution Gimmick is that we are here to destroy. W E. We are here to destroy at this point Monday night raw. Why would anybody draft them to smackdown? Well don't ask me. That's the draft rules here. It's preposterous but I'm sure that. You know there is there one point, six, four, million people or whatever that are going to watch this show come hell or high water no matter how good it is and no matter how stupid it is, and so I'm sure they will enjoy the draft on Friday and Monday, and probably the following Friday and Monday where they draft people and then they figured out that they made a mistake and after draft them back on the next two weeks of shows. In fact, what happened the last time we did a draft. So. There we go. That's our update. So retribution is a tag.

I can't breathe a book about Eric. Garner's case I was stunned to learn the central role. Mario Cuomo played in the mass crush racist problem while Democrats also often embrace hyper shoes of stop and Frisk or broken windows enforcement strategies usually by touting the terms like community policing Assad at Nice to voters Democrats strongly supported the Patriot. Act Two thousand. One and Barack Obama contained or expand bush-cheney programs like drone assassination. Rendition warrantless surveillance while also using the espionage. So don't think I want to say about that is that I think everyone's like I said supported the Patriot Act in the way of the September eleventh attacks because we thought that this was only going to be used for terrorist and not for other things like they are now and we didn't think the program is still be around to now but again we have a long history of legal craig. Republicans throughout this time were usually as bad not worse on these issues but Democrats have lately position themselves as the more aggressive promoters of strong arm policies from Internet speech to embrace it domestic spying the last four years. The blue friendly press has done a complete one eighty on these issues going from sharing our stove to lionising the CIA the NSA FBI. But I recognize the crisis is also raising serious civil liberty issues from prisoners trapped in Delhi conditions to profound questions about speech and assembly lowest to surveillance and snitching if this disease is going to be in our allies for the CBO freshman. It looks like that's going to be the case. Makes it more urgent that we talk about what these rules will be? Not less yet. The party I grew up supporting seems to have lost the ability to do so. And I don't understand why so. I thought that was such an important article as I talk about throughout the article. These things these measures don't just go away like we talked about that amendment that was defeated that would have required the FBI to get warm before searching our web histories but failed by one vote which is sad but again these are powers that they got into thousand one based on the threat of terrorism nineteen years later so I know the people listening to this podcast at Washington Michigan New York Some of these highly hitter states actually won the cost. You guys cautioned really everyone that some people may be scared and you may be scared about this pan-demic about this Z's but just recognize that some of these measures that were taking some of these powers that were bestowing upon the government. It's it's classic but they did a lot of things. One of my favorite stories about Hawaiians the missionaries is that a when machines. I came all the winds are naked. Men Women did mattered. Hot Tubs. But they showed up like Oh. Yeah you have to wear clothes before you come into the church that we're building for you so he's is left out. A big pile of clothes gathered the clothes and they went back to the houses and it came back for church. And like the first guy showed up. And it's documented this actual history. Yeah so the coconut adornments are really just to fit the western ideal of appropriate to a topless. Yeah that'd be way better. I mean that's how it was done. All with the fire and Shit like they want the real reason for the Lao when they had those parties with killing a pig and fucking you know all making the things and the due to the fire dancing and all that chat everything was based on the Kapalua system where everybody had to pull their own weight in order to gain a cop couples that you're not allowed to do certain things. Durant can leave until you let me ask you this what doors it really opened fears about the booking tables and say I'm in New York Times Bestseller scary dinner I think one of my favorite restaurants of all time last night eleven Madison Park to beautiful restaurant looks pretty but when you sit down and it's gorgeous this the people that work there just also nice a beautiful restaurant you sit down and they bring this beautiful elegant wooden box to the table you're like Oh my God appetizers are in there and you open it up at in it's empty what they do is they request they request you put your cell phones in this box and they close and they take it away here's here's what they say listen keeping with the spirit and team of our restaurant we encourage this restaurant it's it's restaurant we encouraging atmosphere of communication and awareness of all the senses and to achieve that give you a moment and then you look around you realize everybody has put their phones in the box and they took the box away did yeah as if he acts as if he'd cut off body parts doesn't come without reward though because when they give you the box back at the end of the meal it comes with a full sized chocolate bar and they don't tell you that yeah they get a treat when he did I know but it's so funny wins when scary was telling me about this I knew they do this because I've been there several times he acted as if it was frightening at first it was a think about it think about it I can't get to our how am I gonNA photograph my food the food is supposed to be so great here supposed to look I know but it wasn't a great just to do that your phone for several hours yes or no yes it was because I it engaged me more in my conversation that I was having with your girlfriend for her birthday anniversary presents mind we were like I was I was in the present I wasn't in my phone but I was missing out on all this decadent art looking food who cares you experienced it and you you got to experience it and see it and that's all that matters you don't have to share everything with everyone I sort of you Elvis and I said you know what else is right I don't know scary no picks I don't think you even went no I only did it because everybody else around him did it I want to do in the restaurant and has a phone you know what I'm saying I'm glad you did it but here's my point and I love I love how they they do this at the restaurant does everything you do and think have to be shared with everyone look it aren't there aren't there things in your life that you just want to keep to yourself Oh yes my best pictures have been shared with no one kitchen people are the ones you showed me I don't know if this is why I don't text everything that happens in my day to Alex I want don't something left to talk about at the end of the day totally so you know maybe you're dating someone do they have a little mystery in there I hope so unless you date scary and you know.

"A major difference so what what sort of system they put in place to achieve steve that's because let's say you get two hundred thousand followers right let's go under those and so forth as a whole you go into the system's gonna put simply give these two hundred thousand people you know equals c and this all together voices and so one of the constitution has to be a strong a constitution obviously can't be too 'em robust in so far as their consciences or if it's too prescriptive has still take into consideration future issues that may come around and have the systems simply timmy changes necessary but you have a code of conduct all right to stop it so easily guiding principles that we have to follow and you have the systems in place where you have a let's see who is a disciplinary committee to ensure that to you stick to a v codes of conduct an observer those things feedback as i mentioned is very important we have a website already progressive thirteen anyone could interfere with it so you can go out there saying mean feedback send me new common question unwary wary accordingly so we may not necessarily be able to come every monday morning and meet with you in a row assembly randy or see dress or whatever it is but you have a channel for communication and it's something that i do see effectively typically with each other parties yeah so that that was my main concern because a lot of people have ideas a lot of people have issues that he won taco but they do know who to talk to get that issue 'em addressed you know like everybody will just wait until you know some somebody he was equal justice you address that issue that they have interest in and then they will support it but there's no way that change just odd from all of us just one more time what was that website at progressive productive dot t t regrets elsia shorting type of on progressive so progressive party progressive macho you'll have democratic party democrats republicans republicans and i wanted to get away from this three acronym paint a thing that if he must full hearing ribian so you have let's see if it will be progressive 'em lou party losing people shouldn't be oh yeah it'd be this thing i'm and i wanna do something different like progressive and progressive has a particular connotation to it real just talking about change but i do think that we need in this country street injury pot change we need more grass into yeah you just brought up on progress no two ways about it has to do with moving forward has with positive grew and then development pushing ahead so change inch could be exchanged conveniently into the woods on and so on also progressivism or center left politics it'd be on the line philosophy of policy i don't think that any other political party well established and operating right now can see definitively typically this is all ideology it's not written anywhere so we onshore what we know is what your agenda maybe maybe once again this one 'em arrested all locked up or or these prominence we're here to remove this government and enter stepping and soon but new what is your ideology what is it new over aachen sort of a school or guidance system so they just kinda they'll have their agenda straighter by that agenda and they think ideologies jeez you are able to as becoming pearson nom to you but you're able to anticipate what some of these plans on programs me because if you understand let's see center left politics all right it's not on it it it is leading a lid on it could explain what exactly sensor that politics is 'cause i saw a lot of people injuring antics luckily a familiar with rights and i got democrats and republicans does you american so what exactly is sensitive are sunday right you have 'em conservatives or persons who believe in 'em systems a that usually meant to enhance and reality of a suit in class or grouping of foods in the fifty nine right liberals on the other hand look more to 'em radicalism at on let's get things done in a particular we end there needs to be loosening up of seating system sent tell us about santa i didn't realize that suggests there's any sense of that centreleft politics for us what it looks that is utilizing current systems that are in place to achieve particular agenda so we believe we policy policies are good way to make changes in suicide so once you have the proper policies phantom eagle redirect policies unquote analyses that that so i remember we had the be the gender policy being late in parliament injuring the policy he didn't taco things such as abortion and did not acknowledge that their agendas a saw it and he looks at 'em male and female which is setting alright 'em and heterosexuality but turned out not to be go is that no pun intended removing asia until you have all of these different loosens who subscribed to the front believe why don't we take that into consideration how about you policy at the moment he lost his policy fight in twenty seventeen when twenty nineteen heading into twenty twenty the visa system of issues so under center left government what you would see it's a lot more policies that guides practices and the country that leads the legislation because we end goal is or vista have proper legislation employees and cultural shifts unnecessary to some to make it as simple as possible when not this but at the same time in in terms of how allow approached the governance would be or is consulting or is getting feedback or we're looking at a progressive steed anticipating things that will come up in the future and dealing with things and now they simply about treating with what we have as pressing issues it's reaching with that as well as anticipating science technology we wanna see a lot of technology we want to see the ease of doing business you want to see smaller government or more moderates government said the government does not need to be in your business in your bedroom as they see i'm telling you what to do and what not to do you regulations that the government is supposed to put in place should be guided by actual after crews in society died in that role of government we see it should be about providing he writes regulatory framework to the country low private sector thrice love civil society thrive in corona this week alone or be effective haven't even see an ability to to move for a free me in this country with deride regulatory framework so it's like the creates on uneven playing field as well as 'em although we is for people to be taken care of if they're unable to take care of themselves have institutions like we have institution and you know that we need to be able to take care of people that can't afford to go to the hospital there of m actually i i had a video that i i released this morning i don't know if you saw where talk to rookie qb he's a little buddy below type one diabetic lovely guy and you will see in a diabetic medication we have acne killing people you another one from seat up anything is right this is not a problem with doctors because when you told us about the richie how he feels the whole story way he found it from somebody else he came into office again and is often you and it's just like well this is what being provided on this you know you know so this is what we have to give people because people for their medication unless people for their medication you know m well luckily he was able to if you're doing it medication and that'll be proper medication not not gonna kill earlier in in i you know what i mean i think that that points to that's indicative of like a bigger problem you know where we have this this institution that people let's really relying on life on is giving them things that killing them but but that's corruption corruption systemic it's in every single thing that we do on man that's vdb factory mattress so when you think about a vc that program for instance you have to believe we steet be pharmaceutical companies pharmacies and see doctors speakeasy all have a rule is simply and then they all are aware you have situations where 'em and this is how this is something that i was privy to recently where it'd be pharmacies in how they make their money from dc that program apparently is based on the line items so let's say for instance you are a seat up recipients company in z which your prescription de blasio split your prescription so that in the upcoming antiquing a one off so be it for three months without medication on one month with medication they will they will take some no and then come back after so therefore they will benefit fit from that line item twice and i think it's eight dollars per item or put a line item or something to that effect but i knew that it's a very corrupt practice you also have within the sector 'em lane some doesn't have like be be amongst as well because if you have a line item for three months of medication should not be left lane for one month amid gives you with things will become under similar things so what ended up on the ground owner of it it it is creepy and look at the same time we have this is public information because it was a part of a joint committee we have a pundit last check on their property increased by now eighty eight million dollars worth of a expire drugs in aware hold on his instagram on that and imagine those drugs could have been used let's see the scent of highlands windy with a fee is natural disasters and saw so this is over i think it would have been a ten year period that this would have accumulated you have a situation tradition procurement in this country is a big problem with e r e g is because they are in one sense 'em i cannot stand alone buddies that could conduct their own affairs and business accordingly within moments or so they are a cheese will see the nypd back because they're protesting entity for those drugs they would say well we need all these drugs at cetera and the nypd that will go out on intendo according league it'd be chief medical officer to sign off on me among ten to one on procure they do drugs but they are richie also has the ability to procure on its own and you would have people who are associated with br itchy me go out and see well hey i have these trucks rex ryan so let's say you're peeing five dollars a pool tablet on the arrangement that maybe that would have gotten on the b r e cheese leasing independently they may get 'em eight dollars per tablet ten dollars per tablet when because of kickback sense or and you will go with that ten dollars yeah i'm you're people whoever making money and these drugs that have been bored bind the deck season a country you know because you already glutted here so you would mean the guan peak this robbery in first place in nashville price of drugs though you know these and then you're not going to be and then we take any money i'm in for a few more money for the drug w already have heavy annexed by just so some people could get a kick box risky and when you see one of these things that could ease all of this is technology because if you have this system that manages you in any of the show that this is how much we sent this allergy or to this a facility on the one you can track these things that they will not be doubled by also you should be both tend to cbs too key this is how much just are ichi 'em took over the past five years and how much he actually used so that if they come forward and see what we need a hundred thousand tablets but you conceive of directed sure that you've been using twenty thousand per year or so you could see whether we recommend that this should not be in this among let need this much now and move forward on also and this came up some years ago in the press aware 'em you have in health facilities how big a lack of drugs and then others having a sewer plus that should not be happening on a.

"Honestly, provocative talk, the LARs Larson show. Welcome back to the LARs Larson show. Glad to be with you and glad to take your phone calls and your emails. You know, I'm really glad to see the existence of a book, like Aloha, rodeo done by David woman, because I'll tell David David one of my favorite rodeos is the penalty roundup, and we've broadcast show for a number of years at dependent around close to ten years, now, one of the things I've always appreciate is the thing that you're making a point about in this book. And that is that one of Motz mythic Cowboys ever to compete in that rodeo a guy by the name of Jackson sundown. Now he was native American. But of course, if you grew up on nineteen fifties or sixties, seventies westerns it was predominantly white Europeans riding horses. And they were the Cowboys, and then the Indians were whole different group. And you say there were some sort of built-in baked in ideas about who the Cowboys were. Learn who the Indians were, and who the who the real Cowboys were. The fact is a lot of the real Cowboys as you point out, maybe as many as a quarter of them where people have colored including the three, the cousins who came from Hawaii to take up the challenge. Let's travel thousands of miles to Cheyenne, Wyoming, the biggest rodeo in America. And as you said, the local media coverage at first is well, we're such a big deal that these folks will travel from thousands of miles away, and isn't this cute that they've brought their rodeo act to our show, but then we're gonna get serious, and we're gonna have the competition because we know and we expect were virtually certain that the competition will end again, with the championship staying right there and Wyoming, pick up the story narrow if you don't mind, David. Just adding to your point a little bit about the diversity of Kelly history. You know, really the as we trace the arrival of ranging in roping skill in Hawaii, don't to the Spanish, about the Cowboys working in the western portion of America, because of course, at that time, it was not part of the United States. They were really the first Cowboys here on the continent. Then when Hawaii was received the cattle, very end of the seventeenth century, a gift from the British crown to the king king command these, these wildly and within twenty or thirty years. You have. Eighteen perhaps twenty thousand feral Longhorn cattle running rampant all over the island, Hawaii, goring people trampling gardens and stuff. And this was like a ecological emergency there. And the answer came in the form of substantial. Taros the king Hawaii had gotten wind of these big ranches in California. And so they got some mentors the country island, teach, Dan, how to manage hurts. And so the wyans active wine word for Kelly is tunnel, and it's sort of a linguistic Hatip to those Caros, because it's kind of a Hawaiian is version of spaniel, and that's where the Hawaiian roping in. Wrangling Tristesse come from the. Gets this wine, spin over the generations, and then we see the Hawaiians the Peniel arriving insanely nineteen compete, and, you know, this sort of blew the doors off the place. And what happened afterwards is the winds. Get back home. And the hero's, welcome there. Sounds of people gathered at the dock in Honolulu steamship, who is composed in their honour, penal writing poetry, dedicated to them. Newspapers all over the islands. They have Lou parties for weeks. Meanwhile back on the mainland newspapers as far away, as Rochester, New York are reporting about this colossal upset some of the misreporting that, that are foreigners. Because again, a lot of people think even know that Hawaii territory at that time. So it was it was a really magical moment. I think for Hawaiians to say they were. Kind of an identity crisis at the time who arly now under the rule of this Farley powering Washington, and he's quietly said to their performance. You might own us in the political sense of things, but you, you can't own and I think that really resonated with the public population is funny. You mentioned the language. I don't know you would probably know better than me David, but isn't Vaccaro didn't that didn't the derivative? Buck ru kind of grow out of the word Vaccaro in, in, in the American language. Because you say buck ruin people know they identify with an image with probably literal images in their mind of a wild west buck was, but that was that was the American are anglicised Vaccaro wasn't it? That's right. And of course, rodeo, also derives from Stanford and you know, in the Larry at and a lot of it is, again, traces back to this Spanish slash Mexican heritage here that through history has been kind of, you know, whitewashed I don't wanna I don't wanna use that word in the sense of a kind of always deliberate or malicious because some of that is just the fact that the victors rate history, but it is our. It's not just responsibility now to correct that it's also a it should be a joy to do. So, because when you do you end up bumping into some blockbuster amazing entertaining, story, just straight up stories, forget your politics. And I think the, the story of these three oyi Rovers, of course, I'm the guy who wrote the book. Perfect example of that, is that when you start to kick over these stones, we will see amazing things that are really at the end of the day, American stories now and have having returned to why the great champions, did they ever go back. Did they ever go back to Wyoming? No. You know this is one in done. Really? Visit there's some there's some wonderful twist to the story that Lincoln real for me personally, one that jumps to mind, is are, are championing, Wyoming is a guy named Angus mic. See five time he roping champion. Wonderful name. And, you know, he is the rival over a few years pretty polite of rising star. And yet instead of having, like a rocky Apollo climax ninety nine. Ending thing. Instead, Angus McPhee goes to compete in a rodeo in Honolulu in nineteen o seven he leaves a blizzard in his home against a Honolulu with the rainbows and gorgeous weather and looks around and never know. I was gonna say, anybody who spent a winter in Wyoming, and I haven't spent a winter in Wyoming. But I've spent a winter in a few enters in Montana. I can imagine that going from, from anywhere in Wyoming to Hawaii, in the middle of December would probably be quite a treat. Exactly. And so, you know, later in his life, he ended up befriending and working alongside number of these Hawaiian Cowboys until the end of his as on the island of Bali, and as far as heroes, they get home. They do compete in rodeos in the islands. But. At the end of the day, equa- Purdy was academy, who loved working out in the range land and doing the work of a cowboy not to the entertainment slash sport of rodeo. And to sort of encapsulate, that idea took the saddle that he won at the nineteen thousand eight I am frontier days and summed it under the port of his little cabin home. Back in the island and got back to work doing the quiet work that he, he loved to do you know David that's part of what we admire about Cowboys, right? They don't sit and put trophies on the on the mantelpiece and sit there instead at them every night. They, they move on, and they get the work done, and they're proud of what they've done, and everybody who probably matters knows what kind of a champion, they are in the saddle doesn't have to be out in the front living room as a conversation piece. Exactly. And I think that, you know, there's something between that sort of passage turn tumble, coda Varna honor stuff that the, the Hawaiians that, that we were tracking anyway, you know, they really typified that, that culture, which, of course, is such a now I would argue kind of embedded in the DNA of, of American culture are at least the positive elements of it that we is buyer, the absolutely. The book is called a Loa rodeo three Hawaiian Cowboys, the world's greatest radio and a hidden history of the American west,.

What would you say if you could go back and give that naive younger? You some advice? Reassurance. Or words of warning in this episode, Emily prince looks back to nineteen Ninety-three to lament the things she lost since then. And celebrate on that she found she read her letter live on stage at the Deere. Bob cat avec during this year's homecoming weekend. Deere. Bob cat. Hey, they're freshman. Emily, do not give up that purple and green flannel. You're totally pulling it off, and it's going to be back in style in twenty years. You'll think if it's fondly I can tell you it's irreplaceable. I've been looking. And while we're at it. Go ahead and hang onto that gray hooded gap shirt. And your dad's genes you like to wear their so completely holy in broken in for the love of sanity, keep them. There's some other things I wish for you to keep things. I'm looking for complete trust of people always believing in. Everyone's best sell hang onto that a little longer. It's getting grim out here. You know, how you find the wondering things. Yeah. Don't pack that one of you'll miss that outlook. Let go of thinking, you know, more than everyone else. You don't shut your mind hole and listen up a little, but really it's a balance, and you're going to need to figure that out quick you're gonna shake to Molly you're going to swing on a pendulum hang on balance. I don't know if I'm there yet, but for God's sake hang on. When you go from the dean's list to academic probation in one quarter. Hang onto when you go from going home every weekend to staying up at a party in walking to Bob Evans from one thirty nine mill street, which incidentally, I think has been torn down. The one that was there at seven AM, which admittedly was hilarious and no harm done that flannel. Totally held up in the damn sunrise. You're not going to believe this. But being a Bob cat is going to become a thing. I know people go to football games now. And apparently they win. Who knew Gary Trent did. All right. I don't know if basketball still a thing to be on us. But seriously, it's weird. Also, I missed that little pawprint the attack cap nonsense is just the worst. Yes. Stand by it. You're still going to live in that cognitive dissonance. That hasn't been packed up and taken to goodwill. I know you fucking hate him right now. But Bob's going to be more than your mentor. More like, a best friend and father. That loss is going to seem insurmountable. You're going to eat more microwave leftovers for dinner in the lobby of Kanter hall than anywhere else in the world. That whole Tony award winning director movie star thing hasn't quite worked out yet. But you do follow your ten year plan. So well done. Remember how you wanted to work with disadvantaged kids? Keep that one in the back bottom George coming. Bob's going to help you get there. And he's going to give you all the information you need and love and care to save. It. You're going to lose a lot more than you think you can handle in the next twenty five years, but you'll find things to be on the lookout for the cube. Art, tendered Zachary's, you're going to run into him a lot in the next couple of months, but it's not going to mean anything for another year. So he's super terrific and the girl you're going to see him walking home with is not his girlfriend. With him. You will find your balance if not your best flannel, and you will take many of his. Hi, how are you? I'm very well. Thank you. Thank you for writing your letter. What can you tell me a little bit about just what was it like sitting down and writing your letter with that while? Okay. That's a good question. What was it like, well, first of all, I think, and I do include this a little bit in the letter, but not explicitly that I never thought I would be the kind of person who would be asked to write such a letter considered. Maybe more on the fringe of. Polite society. I don't know if that's the right term. But so there's since I have moved back to Athens in two thousand late two thousand five and two thousand six participated in leadership Athens, and sort of. It was all of these things of of becoming an adult where I was trying to marry the two ideas of myself as just this kind of like weirdo person. And then this adult person that people were asking questions of and expecting to have adult kind of answers and responses to so this was even now twelve years later, it's still I'm still prized when I'm an adult in the room and asked to kind of thing. So so that's that's what it was like, do you think that younger you either starting at a you know, you or the one walking to Bob Evans at seven AM would recognize the adult you've become today. Ooh, now, I think now, but maybe even ten thirteen fifteen years ago, not so much. I I've come to realize, and I'm continually coming to realize many things, but this particular thing, I've just come to realize I was super naive in high school. And basically a really good kid didn't party didn't do drugs really thought. Like marijuana was like I'm talking like Reefer madness was sort of my idea. I knew that maybe people did that. I know I all my friends make fun of me. Now, they like, you're just you know. So when I got to college like, I'm Lou parties. Wo- would I recognize myself? Yeah. I think now I'm feeling just more comfortable in my skin as an adult when when I was when I came to college. I wasn't. I wasn't feeling comfortable in my skin as like a college student. You know, so with that transition took time and now feeling like comfortable in adult. So so this Bob that you get it so much this is the way professor Bob winters. Uh-huh. Just tussle more about that relationship. Oh, so the reason I hated him when I was a freshman. He taught a class that all the freshmen theater majors had to take. And it was a basic theater class about all aspects of theater and for our final exam. We had to write a paper ask questions, and it was open book. Really you. You could not fail this test. You know, you had your book, you could write your paper, blah, blah, blah, blah. Unbeknownst to me a classmate had copied my paper, and I didn't give this classmate permission to copy my paper. And of course, this is. I mean, we had word processors. Right. So it's not even like, you know, somebody out in my Email because we didn't have Email yet. And but I had lent her my book, and she's like, oh, can I see your paper because I need the questions and again naive again. Like, oh, yes. Of course. So we turn our papers in and I get back an a, but with a note too, bad you copy, you know, note about cheating. And so eight year old Emily stormed into his office. And I I through the paper on his desk. And I said if you think cheated than you fail me, I don't want your a and yelled at him for a while. And he just started laughing, and I was and then I was even more enraged, and so the somewhat antagonistic relationships, which I now know that he found amusing. And I was just like oh that guy, and I dish in he directed all the Lovie t- shows, and I wanted to to be in west side story movies was doing what side story and I wanted to play the character of anybody's and which was played by Birch on Broadway, beautiful hero of mine. And so for my audition, I saying one line from all the songs of west side story in order, which I thought was. Pretty extraordinary. And he instead of casting me said will you can be the stage manager and like once.
