"Cherry lima josh and enjoy. That's my favorite. I wanna thank ted kurkin and cargill brother sonic for sponsoring this clip. Let's give a listen. A gem. favorite is a video that was done by lou holtz. It's called do right and if you've ever heard of it it was done when i mean it's the film. So odors almost reduces. The message is wonderful and he talks about people and how you treat people any goes on. He says you know people each one on a few things and cannot trust you you we just say you committed. He's a great speaker. Always water started speaking person here and yeah hope to make this man because he is. He is one heck of a leader. You're when you're talking about lou holtz. I wanna go back to the coach in the day. It seems that emotional intelligence the ability to interact with others is really what makes a great leader. Is that what you hone in on with europe. Ceo's i mean how could we gotta speaker came in from vermont. Black shoe video of zoomed in vermont and hurt ho subject matter was Emotional intelligence emotional. Iq and each of us took that little quiz All everyone in my group and it highlighted certain traits that we need to work on and a lot has to do with With self who you are as a person recognizing that you're different from other people and you're in a position for you're the leader and you have to treat people though with respect because they are not up to speed with where you are and where you wanna go often emotional intelligence and being able to read people.

"I wanna know. I was referring to freddie all the ottawa. Red blacks of the cfl are playing three games and ten days. That's funny you know a mute. At the same time. I think the dolphins our colleague bishops more. I don't think there are real football team in the nfl law. They're not but they are a joke. And yeah all right. So let's let's run down charles. Wow your beloved tennessee. Titans y'all plan we're in the second worst division like someone's gonna win that division by default basically. It's going to be us. We have You know burning urban. I didn't think you told me we texted it on you. yes. I do think the defense was lose to the jets bad. I didn't think it was that. Wow on i had no sweat about because you have to look at that division itself. We have lou holtz. Who if it was anybody. But the dolphins they would have won or they lost you have burned urban y- leading the jaguars. We're good there. You have davis mills reading. The texans wanted it. We have julio we had no. Aj brown and we still do one is. This is the bad defense. So it's like. I know about it. So back wilson competent for robert follow guys are gonna losses. Yeah yeah has eight or nine. So i like to think that they'll come to some kind of conclusion or like the stuff. Here's here's the thing. Do you want to be the team that just lives up to the hyper view on a team gets hot at the right. If they win their last four games going into the postseason. Then yeah right that that that. That's a nice lost. That's the titans can find a way to turn it on and see if they can make a run at it with the offensive bad there. There's nothing appoint we don't have competent corners. It was not a corey davis revenge. Game it was the fact that Fulton just let's things. Just go buy him. Because he doesn't know how to read is difference between sec defense and you know the real defense i played out in the afc be so well all right. So let's hop on the train. The arizona cardinals are undefeated. I'm not gonna still now. Beat the la rams thirty seven to twenty iv therefore no central time. Trump mcveigh's incompetent at times when the when the whole look is on him all eyes on him. He just poops his bedroom. He just as a little cookie counts all right. Ben rothlisberger loss aaron rodgers so the hate bowl for charles right there but my beloved green bay packers won in the end and everybody's surpassing dan marino. This week seemed like it was very rothlisberger was brady was it. Was rogers all surprising..

"I don't know all this stuff about Brian kelly being the has the most wins in notre dame history okay. I don't know exactly what that means is like all men era parsegian in new grop million came in. I mean you know i mean. Let's let's let's let's start calming down at him. I'm glad and i'm happy that. Brian kelly you the good coach to coach strong coach. No doubt about that. But i mean you know. Let's not in any way shape or form and safe. Sentence has have brian kelly anywhere near nuke. Rocky let's kinda remember. That newt rock was still coaching died in a plane crash. And we're also speaking about a whole different game apples and oranges. So i mean again i. I don't know exactly what that meant in terms of you know bringing that up other than to say that you know. He's had some pretty good success at notre dame for a certain amount of time it's been able to lay down some roots there personally and professionally. So that's good for him but you know they always wanna throw that up there to be like. I don't know what. I don't know what the reaction i should have. Only sit there and say that you know. Wow brian kelly has more winston nuke rotten in europe are cg and lou holtz. I'm sorry don't don't oh three have Championships didn't know three win championships. Brian kelly has elevated notre dame okay. he's elevated notre dame no doubt about it but elevated them to what. I'm on the same par as the top tier schools on a consistent basis over the last Five or ten years despite the fact that they'd been to a couple of playoff games in some championship games. All we are we now. Speaking about the notre dame football program on the same level over the past couple of years as an ohio state or in alabama. No no so. I don't know exactly what that means. So who knows moving forward windows world is sports. I'm your host window wallace. Glad that you could be with us. Arkansas over texas. Am twenty ten snapped. Nine-game lucy st louis razorbacks had a losing streak nine games against The one of the surprises arkansas. I- like a quarterback. I liked their style of play. I liked her defense. Texas again has no semblance of a quarterback who can really do. Anything and arkansas took advantage of that. Is arkansas not florida or georgia. The best team the beat alabama. I don't know. I don't know they'll be interesting. We'll find out this coming saturday where they play georgia but No every year we get a school. Words can like wait a minute now. we didn't. We didn't suspect that That team would be as good as it was. Maybe we start moving them up and up and up and up and could that be. Arkansas could be be looking at a situation where you know. What are the teams that could replace a notre dame one of the teams that could replace a wisconsin one of the teams that replace a clemson willing linda team that could be placed in ohio state in terms of being true contenders for the twenty twenty one season. Be the arkansas razorbacks. They got a lot of juice from the victory. They had a couple of weeks ago against texas and we saw texas. Put up seventy points against texas tech for them to kind of reestablish the self that the themselves as hey you know what. We're not chop lever or we're not overrated in that situation and least For one week so moving forward in the season with arkansas. Go ahead and they beat georgia and go ahead and continue to what they need to do. Get that sec championship. Game or get into the same spot. Where you know. They're going to be battling alabama as going gonna be interesting..

Georgia didn't put up three points this last weekend. Or whatever but i was wondering what your take is online. Nobody's gonna talking about how good clinton is probably going to end up. My daughter wants to know the agassi's having a tough time in this question out do they have enough Backups and Depth chart so that they get tired and the high altitude i know may not be a big deal. But aubrey's dad that's a good question I think they do. I think this is a little bit of a nervous game for aggies. And yeah i mean it is different when you play in the games a mile house stadium. I think i speak for itself. There is definitely a difference. But i also believe when you are as conditioned as these athletes are. It should not be a big deal. So i am not thinking. That's going to factor the game. Well thanks so much for the call and you guys take care of yourself. How 'bout Mike in texas a hey my go right ahead. "We expect it as much but i i think i think the upside is really high You know where can they work. Can they turn the game around this year that they were unable to last year. I mean they threw away a couple of games last year. At least two. Maybe more. And i think they just have to avoid doing that this year to have a great year right. That leads me about second question. what do you think about their new and improved defense specifically Chance campbell he He will truly good the other night. Yeah they did. I'm really. I'm trying to remember the schedule my head but i think as we get a little deeper into it. I know they have alabama pretty soon. Maybe in what Three or four weeks. We'll go over the schedule so here it is. I mean it's it's two lanes suddenly becomes a little more interesting than i think we Wanted to think it would be but ultimately The alabama game is going to be a featured attraction big game and everyone knows what happened last year. I think that tennessee game is really big to th. They can get out of there with a win. They can really handle the first half the season. There's no way you can handicap and lsu game right now. Hey thanks for the call. Appreciate it very very much. Fibber is up next good afternoon. Mr football you're on missed is this. Hey mr football lists his favourite maceio georgia favor arm. Well i'm kelly. What it's great to hear from you. Mr paul because like i told you a couple of weeks ago. I'm a dadgum georgia tech fan. I can't help. it just can't happen. So i've just got a lot of sadness going on. You think any way we could get some the sec crumbs thrown over to the acc and see if we can't help that bush out a little bit. I don't think i'm really not helping mood. You're not well. I figured you might get help me. But as c. c.'s. Just terrible i. i don't know. I think sometimes the afc south to have a league of their own and play their own javits. Yep just leave everybody else alone. Because they're so much better than everybody. I don't know what do you think about it. Paul i we're not helping them. I'm sorry cat. Daddy you want to help the acc out any long. Have my were take moses and payroll lower the healthy. He's rod down the ball and shape design the body. No they really are. But i'll tell you one thing if you asked never mcgee. Is molly still living. I have not done that. No i'm calling you today from asleep. And han columbia south carolina. We've had so much rain and just like the acc. The rain has called my septic tank to over flood. And it's all that gums y'all males like no what i'm saying i've never had before. What the acc join through septic tanks over flooded now need to call the road route of people having grain. I stole smell up another. Oh five months. I don't think we're going to be able to clear that up cat daddy. I think once that smells there. It's it's going to stick around. You got that right big out. Have a good night ever like god bless the usa. Thank you very much appreciate that. Michael is up next. Hey michael how you doing today paul. We're doing great good. Good good to hear from you man first time caller but i love your show. I watch it every single day. Thank you so much sir. You bet i just wanted to call and talk to you. I appreciate it. I loved the interview. You had with a chorale He's a very very intelligent Cat and my old message. Don't do real well this year. Yeah i interviewed mad at times where he is he is he's got together o no doubt about it I played football. Ole miss in nineteen ninety. One through ninety six i i live in atlanta. I grew up in atlanta georgia. Went tomorrow a high school. I played quarterback andrei hastings the phenomenal wide out. The played at georgia He was another one recruit in the united states. Coming out of high school he was my high school wide receiver. And i wound up going to old miss and follow him. You know every day and I really dig in what they're doing out there and i truly believe that they have a chance to Come out of the west I thought they played alabama tougher than anybody played them all year last year They'll they're definitely better than texas am. No doubt about it. They'll outscore their. And so i'm looking for this year to come out of the west What are your thoughts on that. Yeah i need. I would need to see more before they could Make a leap of faith like that. But i don't i i understand your enthusiasm and you have every reason to excite michael. Thank you very very much. Jerry is up next to hello jerry. Good afternoon hello i'll I have a ultimate respect for you. just keep it with you all the time i thank you guys for alabama. Pat trample paul bear. "We played a year ago. We went up there and you know. They handled us and You know we. They looked like they were the more exciting right now. Eight five to four to seven to eight five. Appreciate the coaches joining us later on retired. General vinnie bowls on nine eleven. Which of course the twentieth anniversary. This saturday twelve nine in bryan texas. You're on the air. Hello matty landfall audi audi addy so good to hear from coaches holtz and cheryl you know. Jackie sherrill is beloved around here. Sure there's a lot of folks since federal arkansas. That many a tear run coach old. Swept to go to notre dame. Oh yeah. I forgot about that. I want to talk to you about the plowed system. Proposed pod system the sec. I'm in favor of it. Paul because Let's face it does. Am and south. Carolina never wore rivals. And they're still aren't today now even after ten years They'll see didn't have much choice being divided east and west. 'cause an has no natural or stoorikhel rivals in the east and i think he's pretty much the same for arkansas and missouri. Their schools may be in joining states. But they have no real history. You don't have a lottery. You gotta have at least a couple of drops a bad blood and history and Hopefully in a blob system We can end the tags. Am south carolina rivalry. And if there are there are some really quirky Crossover games in the scc On this vanderbilt mississippi state kentucky and the one you mentioned that's all going to be taking care of when when the expansion occurs. You're not gonna have any so. Yeah there's no there's no you're not. You're not gonna see divisions anymore. I don't think you're going to see each school. Play a handful of games every year and then the rest of it will be rotated. Well it makes more sense you play more. Schools are not faster rotation that and also If am and touches are different lodge. That takes care of a good cause division rivalry like there. It's hard to believe that they will be I mean i don the commissioners on tomorrow maybe he can give us a clue although i don. I don't think anybody really wanna talk about this year. Hey thank you so much for the call. Jackson is in nashville. Hello jackson yeah. I'll come to call to talk about Jd daniels in his injury. It sounds like he He got this Derek summer during the fall camp actually at right but that would need to play colic But really and truly You know. I'm wondering when we're going to start pointing the finger at it Scotty ceo there. It seems like every came from alabama. We've just been hit with this andrew bug. I mean you can look at the defense last year. The table Basically our whole starting wide receiver core is out. Gay daniels is hurt now. You know what i mean and this is it somebody that Saving fought tooth and nail. For you know whenever kirby was after so Yeah i was just wondering your thoughts on that hang up you know it's interesting Alabama's Overall health and conditioning seems like it's better and georgia. Maybe worse chris. Scott cochran right. Now i think is still out for personal reasons. Thanks for the call appreciate it. Let's continue with more phone. Calls and richard is in florida. Hello richard hey paul. How are you doing great. That's great. that's wanna comment on these florida. Georgia fans that keep calm and stuff you know. They talk all the time about what they're gonna do every year. The same thing yet. The core san juan a national championship since nineteen eighty s. One thing that they won four or five of them in the last ten years they could do some talking but they seem to forget that i wanna fan that we where the transition period florida is. We'll probably do eight and four this year for lockheed ten and two but that's being realistic because we lost a heisman trophy candidate winter or candidate. Excuse me and our top tied in and of course a lot of other people that are excellent for the the gators. But it'd be nice if they just would chill out a little bit and until they can beat alabama and win the national championship. And he's just kind of calm down a little bit and chill out and have some class. And what are your thoughts. Well richard. I appreciate it. I mean fans fans are going to be fans. I know that's Probably not or shattering commentary there. Anthony is up next in florida. Hello anthony how you doing paul. We're doing so. We had a reality monday. Tell the truth. Tuesday weird wednesday right. So how 'bout we do this Think about it thursday. That work for you. I think that's good very very Hey before i get into my comments. What do you think the chances are that guy from new york that called in yesterday. That said if you took alabama succeed they'd be pedestrian. You think that could have been the big twelve commissioner in disguise. in fact i think it was we We've tried to call i. It said bob. We didn't get the last name. Oh man that's great. So anyways i got a you know all this talk is about georgia so we can continue with that. I like to say that. I don't think georgia fans understand that. We're all looking at george. The same way they are. We know they're a good team. But they're trying to be great. And unfortunately for all of us. Alabama is the measuring. Stick in the sec. And what we're saying is we're not saying georgia's not good. We're saying that what we saw was not good enough and daniels. The next matthew stafford would have found a way to score a couple of touchdown in that game. And it's just the reality of it. I'm a kentucky fan. Living in florida to not look at it through my blue goggles. You understand what i'm saying. I hear you loud and quiet. Hey thanks so much for the call. We're heading to a break. We got a fantastic show. With of course coach holtz and cheryl a little bit later on the retired general vincent bowls who also talked to the chancellor at the university of arkansas. Tomorrow live from fayetteville. We'll talk to sam pittman as well as the commissioner of the sec. Listening to the paul. Finebaum show podcast. We welcome all that great to have you with us. And gerald is up next in tennessee. Jerrold you do mr paul. We're doing great. Thank you okay. I just wanted t his online by ten years there. Bryant paul bell brian. Tom landry with good. Football coaches necessarily both good and playing the tech. And he plan to count. They both like to wear hats. You know both of were born on september. They lived. I did not i knew coach. Bryant was born on september eleventh There's a famous line in a movie about that. On some of you may remember. I did not realize tom. Landry was six championships. Michael jordan is scott. If people who nobody averaged four sis- again That's such a by the way. Tom landry. Is truly one of the greatest coaches of all time and one of the greatest people of all time. I had the opportunity interview him once. And i i tell you what. I'm not sure i've ever been more nervous. I mean he was he was such a stoic figure growing up and i appreciate you saying that. Thanks so much Let's continue with more call. Spencer is up next and oxford. Hello spencer hey paul how's it going. We're doing great. Thank you I was just calling to see I was wondering what you think about the transformation going almost almost football team and what you think. Maybe their full potential as this year and aspect of wins. I think it's pretty good. I think i think we expected them to win the other night. I'm not sure..

"This is a program that five years ago looked like it was imploding and to brian kelly credit. He made some important coaching changes. And they've been to the playoffs twice now in what three or four years. they just. they just can't quite get to the level of everyone else. Now you talked about you. Know who who is notre dame loss to. It lost a clemson in the playoffs. and they lost alabama. It's not easy getting better than those two programs but i. I was watching critical of brian. Kelly i happen to think he's. He's a pretty good job and it's just really a matter of. Can he get enough players in there. That can that can deal with clemson and alabama and right. now we saw. "Yeah. Lou Holtz when he was coaching Notre Dame. Oh, my God, That guy had maybe five of the test bet 10 best athletes in the entire country. And be like, Well, you know, we're playing Florida State. I mean, we're lucky just to kinda Get 10 points on the board, and I'm like, Are you kidding me? You've got Tim Brown Rocket Ismail. Ricky Waters like I was ridiculous. I mean, I would actually burst out laughing. Watching his press conferences. He was a partner in the booth was was Steve Berlin. Who's a quarterback for him? Oh, my gosh. He was hilarious. The quintessential Lou Holtz impersonation with the daffy Duck list, and everything is everything. And, uh, he And he says that Lou was great. He loved Lou and still does and He would say he When Lou Holtz got the job. He was there when Lou Holtz got the job right, so he'd been recruited by somebody else. He sat down and loophole, said Steve. I wish want you to know he goes. You're not going. He says you, I promise you're gonna play Really? Well this year we got a plan for you going to see is you only you won't throw more than three interceptions. Because as soon as you throw the third when you're gonna be sitting next to me, Yeah, that guy. Yeah, he was. He's a priceless guy, right? He's you know, And, uh but yes. That is, It's happened since time in Memorial guys play down their own team. Ben Roethlisberger is notorious for on a Friday practice and you'll be watching it may happen this week. Roethlisberger may He hasn't done it for a while. But when? Early in his career, he was kind of you kind of felt. The pressure is like Jim Kelly used to puke before games. Yeah, Roethlisberger on a Friday practice. It always come down with something. Got a sore It's got an ankle. You've stepped off the curry. His ankles really hurt. You know, he's really going to be hampered this game where he comes in on a Friday. He can't talk. He's got Larrin giants who has to whisper, you know, um You know, the backup quarterback has to call the plays in the huddle, and Ben has to because you can't talk all this stuff that happens late in the week. That is some sort of extra obstacles slash excuse for him not to play well. Quintessential Ben. So don't believe it. The guy's gonna show up and he's going to show up. Big. Fair enough. We won't We'll take a break here when we come back. We're gonna talk a little bit about The elimination of the cut block and how that might impact the screen game both offensively and defensively. We also got a D D King Kabbalah from NFL network.

"Of everybody here on our team. I'm sorry. We don't have a better clip for you, Uh, to introduce you buy. Oh, that's quite all right. Maybe that was a game winner. Uh, in 2000. So, um, So tell us all about it. Steve. What do you remember from the kick? What? Where? What direction was the wind blowing? No. Anyway, it's good to talk to you, man. It's It's Chris and Mike here, and, um we've I met you ages ago. And I doubt you even remember, but it's nice to reconnect with you, man. How are you? Very well. How are you guys doing? We're doing good. We're doing good. You We want to hear all about what's going on at borderland. That's the main reason we got you and we'll get into talking about this year's bills to, uh if you're up for it. But let's just get the borderline part. Make sure we cover that. First hear the festival is Saturday, the night the 18th and Sunday the 19th coming up here next weekend and on Sunday, Of course, the bills are playing the Dolphins. So the folks who put this festival together it's being headlined on Saturday by the revival is Jason Isabel in the 400 unit are headlining on Sunday. Lots of other acts all day, both days. Going to be a great time. Um, but a part of Sunday is this tailgate experience that they're setting up that you are going to be a key part of so that people who want to keep tabs on or just hang out and watch the bills game from the festival can do that. Um, tell us a little bit about what you know is going to be happening on Sunday that you're involved in Well, you pretty much covered it. Um, I mean, that's that's really the gist of it is that there's going to be this awesome music festival taking place And in addition to that the bills are playing on the road in Miami on the Sunday afternoon, so Or the music fans like myself that are also huge bills fans. You get both, so that's kind of the idea behind this is to be able to experience great music. Great atmosphere and then be able to cheer on the bills. Uh, you know her part of it on Sunday afternoon, and it's just a great opportunity kind of mesh both both fields of of entertainment. Other work. Mhm. Yeah, that's that should be a pretty special time. I mean, a music festival can always be fun. I love that venue. I love Israel and, like bulldog does I mean the time of year, Steve, as you know, from your years up here and in Canada like that. It's such a beautiful time of year in western New York, so that looks like that would have a pretty high score for one of these things. Yeah, you know, and we're in Florida now full time and it's been really, really hot. And we, you know, we do miss the seasons a little bit. I don't miss winter per se, But you're right Fall in upstate New York and Southern Ontario is absolutely gorgeous. And I think Obviously, before the Miami game comes Pittsburgh and that's you know, obviously going to be a massive game, and I mean we're going to get the game down here. We're going to be able to see it, Uh, network television, and I just can't wait to see how the fans back in the stands in Buffalo. What a way to start with two women. Mary head coaches going head to head. Um, Initially, we thought it was going to be. There's a lot of talk down here in the Tampa area that it was going to be box and bills. But Sure enough, this is this is arguably just as good as that of a season opener. I mean, Pittsburgh's always hot and heavy on us, and, you know, this is a good good challenge right away. And I know even though we're down in Florida, there's such a buzz for the bills down here. We just can't wait for it to get going. So by the time we get the borderland we should be wanna know. Looking. You know, at Miami Love that you squeezed in a William and Mary mentioned, Of course, the two head coaches McDermott and Tomlin and you and you, of course, played at William and Mary as well so that that that must be a somewhat of a source of pride for you to mention it like that for the school right to have two NFL head coaches, prominent ones at that successful ones that are both played on the same team, even in more teammates, even It's a small, It's a small school, and that's what kind of makes it special and, you know was pretty small town in Williamsburg, Virginia, and although historically very significant, certainly with American history history bust. It's a huge, huge location, but school warrant football wise, you know, we're not necessarily known for feeding the NFL with coaches or players. So when these rare Occurrence has happened where you have to former players from the school. Go ahead to head again. That's not the first time they've met. You know, it is exciting and and the fact that our head coach Jimmy Laycock, Was there for 39 years. He coached me as well. So we've all had the same head coach and coach. Laycock was coached by Marvel even at one point at with Mary. So there's a There's a real line of Of some pretty interesting people coming out of the college and you know who ended up in Buffalo. And you may or may not have mentioned Lou Holtz there, too, who succeeded Marv at William and Mary. So yeah, and I have to throw in my Lambda Chi alpha bacteria brother, Mark Kelso, who also played for the bills, so I was forced enough to play with him as well. You are frat brothers. Yes. Yeah. Yeah, we were Hold on. Why do we never think to ask mark about his fret experiences? I don't know. That opportunity escaped us while while we had the chance we had all those all those football round tables we could. We could squeeze that in. I know we Yeah, we We ran out of questions here and there about it. I really would love to hear what you have to say about because we may have different story. Ha. Well, Steve, this this fit. I mean, obviously, you're you're former bills kicker. You're from close enough to the area. I mean, the festival's named borderland. You you You came from Hamilton originally, Um and you're a big music fan, too. So, in addition to being a very accomplished and famous NFL kicker, Most notably with the bills. You are someone who goes to this kind of event anyways, even if you're not involved, right? Yeah, and then you know, living in Florida. We were able to go to a number of music festivals because they're outside. You know where that's that's really one of the main reasons why we came down here is because Uh, you know, pre covid. We were down here. Of course, but, uh, when it hit, it was very unfortunate to see all the venues close up up north and to be frank, we didn't have the same situation down here because we have so many stages and Outdoor restaurants and venues..

"You get your Brian kelly yells at players and occasionally has a really bad joke. That doesn't land. But i will say this. He's had four head coaching jobs. He was good in one and he's been great in all three people. Don't understand how hard it is to win. At notre dame when lou holtz laughed had four coaches that whiffed and then brian kelly has now won ten plus games in the last four years whether you like him or not yells at players tells bad jokes. Whatever dude can coach. He took wisconsin. Transfer quarterback jack cohen who was just average and last night unleashed him and the kid. Through for the most completions the most yards the most touchdown passes in his career and wisconsin's got a good staff but notre dame's hard they ask a lot of their student athletes. How many times have i talked to a notre dame player in my twenty years doing this about the academic low. They ask of their players. It's really hard. It's cold weather. Many of the cold weather. Titans of years gone by are now dead is programs like nebraska by the way. Look at the three rivals of notre dame. Usc michigan and stanford are not in the same class as notre dame. This sport has changed the sec. Now dominates it. There are very few cold weather programs. Y because kids have options now. The warm weather kids can stay closer to home. He used to be had to go to a washington nebraska. Notre dame penn state michigan nine. Just go to florida before state or miami or lsu georgia or aubert or kids. Stay closer to home. And there's more great talent south than there is north but notre dame and brian. Kelly have prevailed. They are a great program held on last night. Here's the here's the kick that won it form this from forty one yards. We await the snap. All this down the game winds he nailed it as they wrote off into the locker room to celebrate the win giving the tomahawk chop as they leave moment for jonathan.

"Back when they were really good in paying their players, uh, before it was legal, but When Lou Holtz was at Notre Dame, You know, I totally respected that program. I thought that you know they were they deserved what they got. They deserved the talk in the highest They've got Now they're basically the Dallas Cowboys of the college ranks. Oh, no, really. Oh, no. You're going to go there, Dion, you're going to get you going to alienate a lot of Notre Dame fans. Comparing them to the Dallas Cowboys college football. The Cowboys have not been have not won a Super Bowl since the mid nineties. They haven't been doing NFC Championship game since, like 96. And you are comparing Notre Dame. To the underachieving Dallas Cowboys. Wow. Happened because I mean, look, both teams are overhyped. Both teams always get coverage, regardless of the talent that they have. Yeah, but the Cowboys aren't went in like 12 games a year and getting knocked out of the playoffs. The Cowboys aren't even doing that They lost 10 games or whatever it was last year. You know, they make the playoffs like once every four or five years. Notre Dame's gone 10 wins. 12 wins 11 wins 10 wins the last four years, Dion Against like, Really cupcake opponents to I mean, they get a A personalized schedule to make sure that they stay at a double. Did you win total every single year? I mean, they got into the sea. The hasn't been relevant since God knows when. So they only have what Clemson? That's it. All right. So you're telling me Okay? So then you're telling me they're playing a cupcake schedule. They've got. Wisconsin Cincinnati. Virginia Tech, USC, North Carolina. Stanford on the schedule that sounds cupcake deal. For the For the past few years. I'm not saying necessarily this year been saying in the past. Traditionally, they get what seems like special treatment when it comes to scheduling. Well, I think they get special treatment from the playoff committee. I think they get special treatment for them because this is a business endeavor. This is not something where these playoff committee members, you know, they can tell you they can try to convince you all you want. That its objective and they operate in a bubble or in a vacuum, and that there's not pressure externally put on them to put teams in the playoff that are going to generate buzz. And create revenue. They can tell you that all they want. I don't believe it for a second. I think if Notre Dame this year If Notre Dame goes 11 and one And their one loss isn't such a scarring. You know, jarring type defeat. Where you know there's no reconciling it or there's no rationalizing it or there's no explaining it away like if they were to if they were to lose the Toledo next week. At home in South Bend, where they've won 25 games in a row if they lost the Toledo, all right. That would I don't see how they would ever be able to overcome something like that. But if they're one losses to Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, And they lose by two and they win the rest of their games and their 11 and one I think the committee will Shoehorned them. They will jam them into the playoffs. They will make sure they're there. I think that's where the frustration comes in from fans. The tie goes to the runner in baseball. It's not even a tie that goes to Notre Dame. You know they're running 90 ft. They're three ft away from the bag, and the umpire calls him safe to make sure that they get into the playoff or they get into one of the New York New Year's six bowls over more deserving team. It's really the power of popularity is what it is. The lesson with Notre Dame is that if a lot of people care You'll get breaks. Don't want you. Even if you're not qualified. Yeah, that's that's actually that's that's immoral for like getting a job or breaking into a new career. If you know someone or people like you, that's probably going to go a longer way than how qualified you are and what you are, you know farther than what you know. So Brian Kelly last night was the Notre Dame coach was asked on the field. About, you know, just really a generic question, but a good one about how his team played how he felt about the way they played their first game. And he tried to make one of those he tried to make a John he tried to make the John McKay joke. Which if you're I don't know. Younger than 40. You probably don't get the context or don't get the reference. McKay when he was the coach of the Buccaneers when they were the worst team in N F. Maybe the worst team in NFL history before the old and 16 Lions and Browns came around. Gave some quote. Like what did you think of your team's execution today? And he said, I'm all for it or something like that. And that you know, quotas lived on for Don't know 40 years or something like that 50 years. So Kelly tried to make a joke like that last night, And I think instead he said something like, you know, we should be executed. Our players should be executed. And you could see the expression on the sideline Reporters, face or continents changed when he said that And it was not. It was totally tongue in cheek. It was a failed attempt to be funny, and I just knew when I saw it, Okay, this is going to create an uproar. And Notre Dame football is going to have to address it. And sure enough, I wake up this morning I go to Twitter, and they put out a statement. About how Kelly like I did not mean literally that I was going to take my players back to South Bend and murder them. That's where we're at. We're look in some ways, I think like sensitivity and being aware of other people's feelings.

"Famously the original pretty krueger right so so it made perfect sense to guy from nightmare. Elm street to be in nightmare cafe as the narrator wasn't he wasn't even narrator the narrator and he was black dos of the nightmare cafe. Okay that's right. And i'm trying to look it up because i can't remember the two characters names but they were more like like i said it was. It was kind of it was kind of like the more like the reboot of fantasy island. Where you get the feeling that this purgatory for the people who work for him right. Yes and. that's what nightmare cafe. Was these people who Franken day that's their that's right. This is right. Yeah yeah they they both die six episodes those six right. Yeah they both die in wash calamitous ways but they sort of come back to life because blackie has brought them back to life to work at the nightmare cafe and the nightmare cafe essentially gives people in similar situations. Kind of second chance. The second chance. That franken did not get right. So that's that's what. Blackie is there for so blackie's like kind of the double kind of kind of like a mr rourke but we don't have any indicate what i mean and i don't know if david lynch is gonna go that way with hotel room when it came to the made and the bell hop but i think it was more. I think it was more of a way to make the hotel its own character. Okay was to have these sort of timeless people in the hotel okay But yeah but but they are. They are constant so something weird with us hotels by the way. Did you notice that they did. You know that they're bringing fantasy island back. Speaking of which know. Who's going to do it this town yes it is and it's a woman as mrs mr right. She's going to be like mr works daughter. Who is it. somebody cool roselyn sanchez. okay. I thought it was really cool. But i don't know who roselyn sanchez s. She was in grand hotel. Devious maids okay. Okay so i don't know who that is but she she. Does that. Look like someone who could be ricardo montalban daughter. That's all she's definitely hispanic so okay. I have a picture here. I can show you. Obviously you out there in podcast land. Have the goals. Yeah so she's kind of if you could see that yeah. I could see that a little bit so she definitely just clammed up this photo but she's got some new knee in saying blood in her bit. That eugenics program for back. Yeah exactly you carry. Carry through but steady josh for more. This drinks in about where we talk about. Sarah to of the twilight zone comparisons probably come from. Just you know the the opening narration. Because lynch does a very rod serling ask opening narration. He says he's got it. Apparently this carries through you know. He says four valencian the space of for the hotel room existed undefined. I guess i should do it. Like lynch for millennia of. You're doing it like gordon call. I took me easy. David lynch oppression. So yeah the space for the hotel room exist. Set your socks on fire. It has the got him. Cranked up to the max hotel room that makes guy wishy spoke a little french so an admission kind captured. It gave it shape and pass through and sometimes when passing through. They found themselves brushing up against the secret. Names of truth. Whatever those are exactly it. You know what's interesting charles. And i hate to make this comparison. But don't you get like he was trying to go for a serling vibe. They're a little bit. I yeah i could see that. He's trying to go for assembling via there but the show itself though Oftentimes i mean there are. There are a lot of episodes of the twilight zone. The do take place in hotel room. Like nervous man in a four dollar room or the jeopardy room or their unusual camera Things like that were crazy. Stuff does happen in a hotel room in the twilight zone but most of the time with some sort of morality. Play right and or but. I don't think these were like that. I don't have that s- aspect to them because sometimes it's just weird staff sometimes. Just terrible people wanna talk about. We talk about tricks today Divide that you get watching Harry dean stanton character. And freddie jones character lou holtz i lead at least i got this vibe. 'cause i watched this episode twice now. I get the vibe that it's almost like you're you're kind of wondering does harry. Dean stanton suffer from dissociate of identities order. Yes i wondered that too. I mean this is just me. Because i kind of wonder like well did lou really exist. It was very he. loo started. Felt like the tyler dirt in this. There's that scene where gwen heavily is like. Call the cops these guys right thing. I am plural right. So you know she. She could have been paid right to pretend like there's a friend there or something and she was also stoned out of her mind as she was stoned out of her mind. Yes so baby because so maybe if for whatever reason mo- you know was behaving as two people. Maybe she imagined perhaps that he was to people. That's very possible. Yeah so. I definitely got the issue. Let's talk about was down was written by their gifford Crossword were hurt right and also wrote this show writes the third episode of hotel room blackout. Right yeah lost. Highway wasn't directed by peter. Deming also no. This was directed by david lynch. This one okay. Did the first third position okay. Yeah and it was. This is created by money. "Top queen. Anyway it is official do ball. You've got your guy. Your guy is Erba Urban Meyer, the guy with three national championships and a bunch of retirements. He's not your guy. He's not your guy and I've got to be straight well, I haven't critical of him in the past and some of the bull crap he's pulling the past. I have to say that I like this higher. There's a lot to like about the higher I like it for Saxon Ville, because what it says about that team that organization and what says is they're trying to win and they're willing to pay the price toe win. They're not looking to go the cheap proud. In fact, they're probably going the most expensive route because not only do you have to pay herb salary, which in and of itself would be pretty fat. It's also about all the other money and guarantees of support that he's going to want in Jacksonville. Now, This is the guy that Jacksonville targeted from the very jump and they end up landing there, guy, So that's big. It says something. It's a statement by the Jags. They took a big swing. Now, If they take that big swinging, they come up short. Whoever else they end up with would have felt like a total fall back. Instead, they went big game hunting, and they bagged the prize. Now. I'm not going to say that this guy is a lock anything but I mean, how many great college coaches have we seen get their asses kicked, trying to see if their process and their system work on Sundays. How many of them pretty much, all of them or most of them. Well, actually, that's not fair. Not all of them. You know, the right guy in the right situation can kill it. AII Jimmie Johnson. But the wrong guys in the wrong situation will get wrecked III next seven Steve Spurrier, Lou Holtz. So the question, of course, is is herb, the right guy in the right situation? Maybe. Maybe now Here's what you do get. If you get urban Meyer, you get the rare guy who is one absolutely everywhere he's been, I mean, yes, He's also had scores of players arrested and Florida. He had that disgraceful exit at Ohio State, But if you wanna win, he's the closest thing to the sure thing that you can get, and he's gonna bring that reputation with him. I mean, clearly, this is a guy who has been biding his time doing his research in waiting for the right opportunity. And of all the available jobs in the NFL this offseason, this one is the best opportunity. Don't be fooled on the surface. This is Urban Meyer taking overall one win team in a small market, But in reality, it's something totally different. It's an organization that's in the middle of a hard reset a complete control. All delete, like the old reality for the Jags is that there are one win team in Jacksonville. And they've been cloud hard. But the new reality is they're getting urban Meyer. They're getting Trevor Laurence. They've got four picks in the top 45. They've got 11 picks overall, and they've got anywhere from 75 to upwards of 100, mil and cap space. So if you're going to make the jump to the NFL now is the time to do it. And this is the team because this team should be good. According to two biggest questions for any NFL team. Who was your head coach? Who was your quarterback? And not necessarily in that order? Jacksonville his answer Those two questions about as well as you can. Just this side of I don't know, setting up a time machine to the year 2000 and bringing back Bill Bella Jack and Tom Brady. So they're going to go into 2021 with the greatest quarterback prospect of a generation and one of the best football coaches of a generation. That's not bad at all. And if you're looking for somebody who can build a winner, then Herb is that guy? He's great at identifying talent. He's great at developing that talent and not just talking about five star recruits. I'm talking about guys under the radar as well. Andy's rock song when it comes to X is a nose and motivation and setting the standard and never deviating from that standard, and that's what the guys best at building a winner. I noticed the one word that I'm not gonna use. Culture. He loves it. He always uses that word, but I'm not gonna use it because, well, I mean, look at it right. Look at his Florida teams. If you want to our culture look at how we handled Zach Smith. When you consider those things, I'm not sure that's exactly the definition of great culture. In fact, I'd say that at times you got pretty toxic. What again? They want to help a lot of football games. Much everywhere. He's been if he can do that in Jacksonville. Check that He should do that in Jacksonville. He better do that in Jacksonville is long as he doesn't puke all over himself. That team should be pretty good. And if urban Meyer is in fact the winner that everybody makes him out to be Then he'll be fine. He will win just not out of the gate. What if he doesn't win there? That will ding his legacy? No doubt I'm the pressure is on whatever the Jags were paying him and everybody around him. They're not doing it just to win a few games or to be competitive or even a battle for a wild card spot. You do something like this? You take this big swing because you want to contend for Super Bowls. Meyer's got to know right that if he fails here, sure. You'll have stacks and stacks of cash, but his rep is gonna take a hit. Possibly a big hit. And I say that because if you can't develop trouble, Lawrence and you can't win, which Robert Lawrence, it's me a pretty horrible look. For one of the greatest college coaches in the last half century. But you know me I'm about the positives. I've got another positive for you may be the best part about Urban Meyer. Coaching the Jags is that it's not a college gig, which means we don't have to hear his sanctimonious garbage about molding young men and all that junk. Having one guy after another arrested And we don't have to hear him claim that he's going to quit the sport because he doesn't like the state of the game when he was one of the leading contributors to the state of the game. And we don't have to hear about how he claimed to have quote, significant memory issues and quote when it came to that Zach Smith situation due to the medicine he takes, she would have to worry about that crap now because in the NFL, the only thing that matters is winning. And that's what this guy does. I mean, sure, he'll probably be sanctimonious is hell, but nobody needs to listen. And you sure as hell don't need to believe him. When he starts doing it. The guy wins. He does win, But can you develop an NFL quarterback? I think that's a fair question because his track record of quarterbacks Meyer quarterbacks in the NFL not so good. And trouble. Lawrence is entering the league had a pretty advanced stage of development, man, he better get something out of him. Can he make him better? Can he surround him with the lead talent again? He better because this is a massive opportunity, and if he can't cash it in, it's gonna be a massive failure. All that said, I like it. I do You like it? It's a big swing. Now go out and prove me, right, Herb. And don't be looking to bail when you lose a few games because you're gonna lose a few games. In fact, more than a few games, you're gonna lose a hell of a lot. Before it starts to turn. So this time, Herb, see it through finish what you start. Like the higher I think he's smart to go there. In fact, I haven't been this hyped on the Jags since Brunel was slinging it to Jimmy Smith and Keenan McCardell. Shout out to Fred Taylor. Don't be silly. What's up, Big dog? Tony Brackens. Are you living?.

"Heard confirmation from the Bears. But every credible source even ones that have blocked me on Twitter are reporting that Payson Nagy will indeed return in their current roles. So I ask you this this morning. Good morning, Jonathan. Are you excited for football next year and you call in? Recency bias Go. No, I'm done with him. Are you truly done? That's what they're banking, right? That's the big question, right? You look at this Bears team and you say second verse. Same as the first Nothing's going to change all of ass force change because change is actually good for the Bears. But as I told you after the loss, I said, you know. George McCaskey, and I know you're listening. Georgia's you Drive in because you want quality sports talk every morning. That's why listening Captain Jay Hood bottom line is is that I know George thought to himself. Oh, we were in the playoffs, too, are the last three years. That's good enough for me because he takes a look at the bears over the years and say it's very red. The bears to give the playoffs that often. And so he looks at that and believe that that is a positive for the spirits team without looking at the looking at what's really happening with this football team, the quarterback. You don't know what quarterback you'll have. You don't know your number One wide receiver is you don't know where you're gonna have a special teams. You don't know who's gonna rush the passer. All these question marks are out there for the Bears. But yet they feel that status quo is good enough. Well, it sounds like they're just gonna run it back for at least one more year to see what happens. And I would say that you are wasting time by doing so. Do you believe that it's simply because we're in a pandemic, and there's no sponsors, and there's no stick it sails. And Whatever you want to talk about finances. Heard water yesterday. They get $275 million, like every other team in the league at the start of the year for the national TV contracts, which are in the billions and billions of dollars Do you think if we had had 65,000 for eight home games and all the sponsors and all the gear, and there was never a pandemic that they'd make a change? Um, probably not. Probably not. I'm with you. I think it's still this is the bear. This has nothing to do with finances because we know that there are a number of teams across sports that already have contracts in place whenever we get back into sports again, whether the NFL with his major league baseball, whatever those contracts already written, so it's not about the pandemic because we know we're going to get on the other side of this and we'll get back to some kind of normal state. As I don't deal with that. It's just that There's a loyalty issue where you can be so loyal and used You like the room so much that you don't realize what's happening on the field. You know, it's not one of these unfortunate things where the Bears rate in eight are. We just fell short in the playoffs. If you've lost eight of your last 11, you're not going in the right direction. All you want is someone to be able to guide a team offensively to be with the rest of the Joneses in the NFL, you know? Have it during this whole pandemic live empty stadiums. We've never seen more points scored in the National Football League this year. Just this year is the most points scored ever in the NFL. Come the bears that really part of that. You want to be part of that, right? I mean, a major part of that was what I mean, right? Correct. And so we never had more points scored has never been more verticals never been more tailored to the offense than this year. And the Bears in that part of that, and that's a problem. Huge problem and again, Tennessee runs the ball, You condone it creatively in different ways. We brought a guy in. He's a really good man. He is a really nice guy to deal with. He's respectful, But guess what you were brought here to modernize the Chicago Bears offense, and you've stayed mired in the bottom quarter of the league. Period. Thank you for the efforts your great dude. It hasn't worked, and you can put all of it that you want on Mitchell Travis Key. You went out and got Nick Foles. That was your handpicked guy that didn't work, either. You can't tell me there's no weapons on this team. You can't tell me that was the NFL network yesterday and they said, you know, in Chicago, They got to go get a new left tackle. But James Daniels is one of the five best interior blockers. They said that kid has emerged. They love him. He'll be healthy. Okay, Cody White. Here's a good player You brought in bars and must of her took you a long time to realize they should be playing. But you finally did. They're pretty decent players. We'll get a really good left tackle or all of a sudden you go lines. Not too bad, right? So why can't you score freaking points? Because we have to break down. Two words. One of them this system. The other one is scheme. Now to some, It's the same thing right? So system that your scheme now there's two different things, right? You know, as Lou Holtz always would say to one of those guys on the the offense he goes, You know, I don't like this guy because you steamer. You don't have a shift in but you gotta seem very schemer. Make fun of that coach on his staff. Because all you're into his schemes. What about point? You're always so there's a difference between scheming and a system. You know that Maggie told us a few days ago that we all know what the system is. We know what the bears all about Now. Offensively, we know our identity. No, you don't. Nobody knows. And I don't think they know up there. What is your identity? You just now started run the football in December. T o your lies David Montgomery. There's a difference between scheme and system scheme is like, Hey, you know what This is kind of the kind of thing I think we should do system is this is what we are going to do well said. There's a difference between the two great There's three things that you've got to be able to capitalize on. What your coach tell me if I'm wrong or add on to what I'm going to give you It's either the system it's players in leadership. Those are three things. The system is. This is our identity. We walk in the field. This is who we are offensively. Come stop us. No, I was not the biggest lovey fan. I wasn't but you know who that you know what they weren't in yet? What did he say? We're going to get off the bus running. You could say you don't like that. That's fine. They knew who they were right? Did you know? I mean, for better for worse, you know who they were right? So system players. Of course you can't win without good players. You gotta identify who your players are. You're not going to have across the board all pros. If you can get a couple of guys from a wide receiver standpoint, a quarterback offensive line defensive line secondary could pick out certain guys who say those are cornerstones. Can't find him on this football team. Not across the board. No, not across the board. You can't And, of course, leadership. Has either got to come from the top was gonna come within the team with the players. Who's a leader on this team. Who's on who's on this team has a leader Alan Robinson clue. Matt didn't say anything. Who's the leader on this year? So they are bereft of a lot of these things. The system the leadership, you got some players shore, but that does not complete the full circle cap. Don't have three things that you gotta look at. What's your system? Who are you? We all know you says we know you know who our identity is. Now. What is your identity? No, That's the problem. Right? Who are you? Who are you defensively. You get takeaways..

"Chicago. Wls am calm in our remaining moments before the align I coaches show coming your way. It's seven o'clock in the Mark Levin follows with a full show. Donald Trump plans to award the presidential medal of Freedom to a couple of his buddies here in the remaining days of his term the award as the nation's highest civilian honor meant to recognize exceptional contributions to national security. World peace or cultural and other significant endeavors and John Dempsey, it looks like a congressman Devin Nunes of California and Jim Jordan of Ohio. Well received the presidential Medal of Freedom. Also, most presidents who have bestowed the honor on members of Congress in the past typically grant those at the end of a lawmaker's time in public service. But in this case He's doing it before he starts his re election or not re election his his campaign for 2024 as a long time and valued and Really a national asset and a Hall of Fame. Newsman here in Chicago. Are you still hoping Perhaps at some point you are bestowed the presidential Medal of Freedom. And if so, how would it make you feel? Would just be honored. I would be humbled if I were to get the presidential medal of freedom. But I do have to correct you. You said I'm in the Hall of Fame. Which Hall of Fame is that double DS walk of fame? It's right outside the tower. Oh, that's right. Yeah, well, I'm proud to be a member of the W ls. Walk of fame. Yes, and every time we have a company wide or against the Chicago wide Zoom call. They allowed. You're allowed to your accomplishments and make make a lot of it. So I know what they say Loud. L au de Lawd. I know that I was testing you. Okay? The last time they lauded the last time they lauded me. We see on the zoom called the John Howell has left the conversation as they were saying nice things about me. You ducked out. Well, no. Was that all about that was a power outage. And I'm very surprised. We have not had any sort of trouble here. Other than that, inopportune ding that happens. Inopportune ding that happens from time to time. We've kept it together with baling wire and duct tape. I'm pretty happy about today, but I'll work on it tomorrow, so we'll see. Now let me just run down the list of other People that have received recipients of the presidential Medal of Freedom during Donald Trump's term. Elvis Presley. I was surprised he had not to receive that. Previously. Richard Nixon, of course, famously gave him a D e a badge Yes. When Elvis visited the White House unannounced while he was packing heat Was Elvis packing here in that famous photo Understanding with the Richard Nixon will blink of totally met him for about five minutes to get a picture taken. Elvis had a pistol. Goodness, things are looser back in those days. I guess they were. So Elvis has received this Alan Page, the great A Supreme Court justice from Minnesota, also formerly a defensive lineman. He received it. Anton and Scalia. That's appropriate. Orrin Hatch. Yeah, Babe Ruth posthumously, of course, received his Roger. Stop back, Really? Arthur Laffer, who are friends, Stephen Moore talks an awful lot about the economist, the Laffer curve. Yes. He's recently wasn't a picture. He was not a picture with the Laffer curve. He was an economist. Thank you. Edwin Meese, the former what? Attorney General for Reagan had beast. The one that took Reagan aside and said, Hey, this Iran contra thing. It's bad. You better cut some people loose. And now Tiger Woods. I can see why. Bob Cuzzi has received the presidential Medal of Honor or Medal of Freedom. I should say the Medal of Honor or the Medal of Freedom. I'm sorry. It's the civilian counterpart of the military Medal of honor. Okay, and the Medal of Freedom was meant to be reserved, as JFK said. Recognize and especially meritorious, meritorious contribution to the security of national interests of the United States. World peace, cultural or other significant public and private endeavors. I think the bar has slipped considerably in the years since Jerry West has received it. Mariano Rivera has received it. Roger Penske. Roger Penske. They got they racing legend and the trucking company not to preneurs Roger Penske has received. It must be a contributor and guessing, you know, no disrespect. Jack Keane. He is the former general that we see on Fox news quite often. Jack Keane. He was remember the military. Of course, l rush Ball famously received it just ahead of the state of the union. What was that earlier this year or last year and left shortly after Russia announced that he had cancer. I think you're right. And so the L. Rush Ball has a medal of freedom, and Lou Holtz, the former college football coach. He just received one and soon Devin Nunez and put it outside.

"Let's go around the room. Wanna What's your good? My good was the performance. I said this earlier in the show today of the last 7 to 10 days, I thought the most Impressive performance. I saw an any sport in any level was what I saw Justin Fields do in the Buckeyes trouncing of the clubs and Tiger's eye. He did what he did with what looked to be a really serious injury. 22 of 28 3 85 6 touchdowns. Good throw an interception but was an unbelievable performer under difficult circumstances as he got hit early in the game, and you could tell he was in pain. Just it was tremendous and I have not been I have been a skeptic of his earlier this year. I thought he played poorly against Indiana. I tip my cap to Northwestern's defense. That kind of kept him in check. He did not have his best receiver, I guess in the big 10 championship game, and that kid changes things, but the Wildcats did a very good job. Keeping him in check. But his performance against Clemson was worthy of my good for the past. And 10. Plus, Yeah, they were a machine weren't there meaning pretty incredible. I'm excited for the national championship game. My good as to do with the Cubs Broadcasting position. Now, The Marquis loss is our gain. Because we have Len KASPER now doing White Sox games and remember where your new home for all White Sox games coming up and going forward, and Len is now the radio voice of the White Sox. But as a Cubs fan, I had a huge interest. And figuring out who's going to be the next voice of the Cubs on television, and I got a little worried about Chris Myers. Chris Byers. Nice seems nice. You know, whenever every now and then fax came fine, I don't want him for 100 plus Cubs games. He's not a baseball announcer. My book. I gave them a couple of names and one of the names I gave them was booed. Sham be our buddy John. Sham Be someone you here on ESPN someone You here on this radio show And wouldn't you know it Mark? He did it and book is a great already great established. Announcer. He is knowledgeable. He's opinionated. He's great at his job. And now is a Cubs fan in an off season that has socked and that's in all caps. Waddle it has socked. This is the first bit of good news here that I've got. Maybe the change in counter helps here but boob Sham B is the new voice of the cubs that was announced today. We're gonna have him on tomorrow at four o'clock. What's your good Abdallah? My good is the other playoff game. Obviously. Alabama beats up on Notre Dame, but Devante Smith seven receptions 130 yards, three touchdowns. He is most likely going to win the Heisman Trophy tomorrow night after having 105 receptions 16 over 1600 yards, 20 receiving touchdown. And I ask you a question that may sound silly at this point. I love him and he is so dynamic so fast. I worry that he is so narrow that when he steps up to the next level, he's gotta gain £10 and he said, without jeopardizing some of that ridiculous speed doesn't either like when he He's like 611 75. Yeah, he's the he's six years. Exactly 611 75. I mean, I just fear that when he gets to the next level He's gonna have to put on some way to maintain his ability to handle some of the heads. He probably I think he probably will, but they've they've had a There's a few really thin wide receiver. I mean, Odell Beckham Jr is pretty thin, too. He's got have you seen his legs? He's not really skinny legs. I know. But like that's my Listen. I'm I'm nit pick and right here on because I think he's going to be an outstanding pro. I just can. I think he's a guy that if he can put £10 of muscle on, he'll be even like Hard to believe he could be better. But he will be husband tomorrow night, and that's that's my good. Did you see Jalen Waddle practiced? Did see Jalen Little practice today, and I don't know. I've got mixed up. Mixed feelings about that. If he is anything less than 100%, he should not play because he will jeopardize his health and his draft stock this wait a minute. I thought Green was saying football players play well, yeah, but he's also got he's but look, I'm the Alabama fan, and I don't I would say Go get your money, kid like if you're not 100% if you're coming back in your 75% First of all, I don't want you out there. Second of all, Don't don't ruin your money like yet is one game, but I know it's a championship game, but go get your money, kid. Come on Black. What's your good? I've got my good but also next Tuesday after Alabama wins the title. Can we have the conversation? Best college football team ever, possibly sure. Best Alabama team ever. Abdal. It's something I ask you a couple weeks ago. Jean Harris is probably there. See? Statistically, there's still running that whichever they probably have their best positions. Plainly on Lian SEC conference schedule, and they blew through that they might be the best team we've ever seen. Gotta get past a mild state first. Don't do that. No, no, that's the bait and switch deal. I don't know where the best running back in the best quarterback in by four touchdown and I've seen their defense play against mobile quarterbacks. Quarterbacks. I can actually score. Yeah. Eyes that my God, is that Lou Holtz back there? Yeah, I know. Right? It's seen s O b. My God. It burns my back burns. Oh, Dick burns right behind me, Okay?.

"I watched the clips of brian. Kelly press conference and he looked like he was exact exasperated. And i don't know if you're a notre dame fan. How do you feel about this. Because he's i mean he's a really really good coach. We do these top. Twenty five lists every year and brian. Kelly definitely should be in the top five and they have really good players. But i don't know and he's right alabama's done this to almost everybody. They actually didn't do it. The florida but you know was there were still you know it's like we'll see if ohio state gets closer. So let's let's fill people in on the quotes if they didn't see them after the game not surprisingly. Maybe he was surprised. I don't know he was asked a lot about. How does the here how frustrating the question was how frustrated is. How frustrating is it to get to a playoff again lose by this margin the margin not the issue. Losing his losing. I don't know really. What the inferences. This football team battled and they made more plays they being alabama made a few more. Plays on the perimeter. I'm not sure really what the question is when you lose football games you know. There's a few more plays jeff to make. We had the opportunity. You watch the game. I watched the game <hes>. So everybody needs to continue to carry this narrative that not not good enough. Look at the scores of the games. The albums played all year. And i think when you start changing the narrative little bit then somebody asks as you look at it. You feel like the program has gotten a lot closer. What's the next step. You feel like you guys could take need to take i. I don't really wanna continue to go down this path. We're going to keep getting here okay. And we're gonna keep banging at it and you guys watched the game in you. They had the college football player of the year. Who made some dynamic place. We battled. We were right there. So we're going to keep getting back here. And i'm sorry i don't like it or the national media doesn't like it but we're going to go back to work we're gonna keep recruiting. We're going to put ourselves back in this position again <hes>. I mean i know. He's got to defend the program. And you know what's he going to say like. Oh yeah we're we're we've got a ways to go <hes>. But you're right like if you're ordering fan who who still believes deep down the program. That should win the national championship. How do you feel about your coach. Basically coming on saying he's basically trying to say yeah. We don't have a devante smith. We don't have nausea harris. But we were good enough that like if we caught them on the day we could one maybe is that is that we took from it. Yeah and i'm thinking about it. It's like this notre dame team. And i would say it from the last from the jalen smith <hes>. Ronnie stanley era up. So whatever it is i guess. Maybe it's the last five or six years they've had like some special athletes right. I mean ronnie stanley elite talent offensive lineman jalen field. Jalen fields. Jalen was is home. Ultra talented linebacker. They've had <hes>. Kyle hamilton is as athletic as any any safety. The country i mean they have some of these guys will fuller was as fast and dynamic as any receiver just about. I mean it's not like they haven't kyran williams of big time running back they just don't have quite enough of them right. I mean like they don't have any of them. It's not like you know. The the line from joey galloway said like northwestern's a bunch of reese davis's you know the inference there is like notre dame has has some guys who would play anywhere and they've always had a bunch of good offensive linemen. They have good tight ends. I don't think they're light years away from having like a team that could win a national title. I mean they're they're a top five team. It's just you know. I don't know like like maybe this is a better way to frame it. Like if they were playing ohio state they have somehow gotten by alabama. I mean <hes>. Let's take alabama out of the equation if they were playing ohio state and somehow it was a two three game. Let's say let's say that it was just a playoff game but it wasn't. You know as the i. I could see <unk>. Notre dame beating ohio state. Even after what. I just saw from ohio state alpha. If justin feels plays away did tonight. I couldn't but <hes> like i don't think it's out of the realm of possibility like i think there are. You know i watched their. I think notre dame's better team than georgia. I think not notre dame honesty's a better team than florida now. It's easy to say that after you've seen some of these teams get exposed some but lake and those teams. Those teams have played with alabama on a given night right. So i just don't think they have as much margin for error right

Lou Holtz talks Notre Dame and more
"Lua alluded to you as being a builder and again i go back to the interview which you had here in the studio with us and the obvious question from a person when you They asked you about the rumors you going to. Usc and you said usc is one of the three best jobs. And i said wait a minute. I know notre dame is one of the best. What's the third best job. And you said the one that i get and it turned out to be usc but the university of south carolina. And and i'm just wondering when you reflect back about taking over that program. Why did you take over such a struggling program. And what is it is allowed. Lou holtz everywhere. He has gone to be able to build success. What i foresee a we will not arrive. I think we had three offensive linemen on scholarship is all we had. It did have a quarterback and didn't have a running back to his per se. But you know you grin there you you just you try to fundamental you. Try to do the things that we talked about. Just you know. Build build the football team. And i have gone to six different situations in college and never inherited a winner and went to bow game no later in the second year with matter of fact after going on eleven we finished seventeenth a country next year and beat ohio state in a bowl game following here i think we finished loveth in the country. Beat state again on january one. But it's not because guy it's Coach it's all about the people. If team i mean it's about coaches and players. All all really tried to play their road and believe that you can do something. We read great fan support in south carolina. We were below eligible this year. We'd basically accepted a bowl bid and then of course after a little probably had with trump said in my last football game we decided not to go to a bowl game. I would've liked to vendor micro in a bowl game and yet at the same time within hayes and i'll have the same legacy Last was in clemson was involved. Refer also that's not a great legacy to have necessarily but it's a good football team. Many people coming back in. Like steve spurrier command. And you know he. He's a guy that likes to win. And i think he can win earlier. I believe that in the bud by heart. I think he's an excellent coach. I think the players will respond well to them. And i think we took a the longest losing program the country and took it to a bowl game and he'll take it from there to the championship level when you talk about coaching today And i think about francs being fired after he won nine games and i think about the expectations that go along ty willingham of course sopa but notre dame in his first year wins his first eight and then what has happened to him recently as well. What are the expectations of football coach at a major program today. Well i've been figured that basically very very impatient but you know they. They want instant success. One instant gratification and want to go the top. That the trina goes to the university of louisville inherits a very very good football team. From coach smith went onto michigan state. Now goes between things that a tremendous job but You know feel air. And he has those great athletes. They have great success. Urban meyer. who. I hired at university of notre dame you know he goes to Utah has instant success and everybody sitting there saying well. Hey he can do it let. Let's go get that guy that can do it here that we can win immediately will You know having code having smith there your quarterback as a pretty good asset to have it set about where somebody also had success. And i am sure they they look at it and say well gee they came in and they were down and all of a sudden they one. That's what we want to do and everybody all the fans wanted to two things who's going to be the new coach and he will be the next quarterback i. It's unbelievable i. i don't care you. You want to become unpopular to hurry. Go for being the second team quarterback to the i team the anything too is if you think about it and i was thinking about notre dame just the other day what should be their expectation level and i know the obvious as well to win championships but if you look at the landscape of football today lou there's a lot of teams that are able to get outstanding athletes that don't have the same requirements to get maybe to get into school There's a lot of schools have reputations of putting players into the pros and what have you so having said all of that. What should be the expectation at notre dame today as far as their season and their teams year in year out when further. Joyce hired may at the university of notre dame. He said. I wanna talk to you about a couple of things. Basically not negotiable. These are not negotiable university. Notre dame we are need understand. This now isn't even before i was ever offered the job at you. Know we we. We will not redshirt. We will not take transfer from junior. College will not take a transfer from another school against need search chain core curriculum classes for years of english. Three years of math through calculus at center players are going to miss practice because of late classes or or or labs or tutors or things along that line. The players are going to live on campus. We are going to have great facilities. You have nothing to do with the discipline but athlete on campus We don't pay a whole lot You're not allowed to president of the university. Notre dame was the rule when say they gave the president rates once that they could give me a raise anyone on all that and he said with the we're expecting to compete for a national championship at least once every three or four years and I didn't find anything wrong with ed. And we did the head it. I think that should be their expectations. Not necessarily this year even next year. But i do think They expect Charlie wise to compete for the national championship. And i think he will. The same things are saying about notre dame they said about whenever procedure went there years ago. They said it. When i was there i remember my first year recruiting at notre dame. My aunt had us fifty eight to sixty year before. I got there in their last football game on national television and You go into a home to recruit a young man that have all these That have all these articles in there. About how Notre dame can't win anymore and the schedules to tough. There's all this. And there's all that. And i just don't believe that i i think you know. The sec schedule's pretty tough When i was at university dame might think at fifty four percent of games ever coach there were against a top twenty five football teams. But that's part of notre dame you play the best you know. We played washington when they're really good. We played tennessee. We played texas We we we played Miami florida played. Florida state You just that's just the way you did it at notre dame and I don't think it's any different now. I might be a little bit down right now but yeah. I think it's going to be fine but lou. Isn't it a little bit different. In the sense. That i used to think of notre dame and you probably going into a home where you know it was. I want this kid. The kid's gonna sign right there. It was like with john wooden at ucla. I mean john recruiting because everybody wanted to come and play for john wooden at ucla during those particular years but now the competition it. It's almost like well. We've got a pro passing program so if you're an outstanding quarterback you're going to go to this score that school i mean isn't the the mystique oh most of notre dame and not to their own detriment or fall but isn't it a little bit perceived differently today might be but i don't think necessarily it should be. I mean on tv every saturday. One time when i said notre dame we had fifty seven players active in the nfl. The next was penn state with thirty nine and third with southern cal with thirty eight But we we had to work hard. Recruit again we. We found uphill struggle. But here's the different. We could go to california and would we went after navigate. It was us usc or ucla. When would end attack between us. Texas tech today and you went into florida as a youth. Florida state miami and florida. You went into nebraska to be between you and the university of nebraska. You could go anywhere in the country and you would have legitimate chance to recruit the best athlete in that state but you would have to use the beat. The home state and you didn't always do that but when they start talking about well. Nfl i want this type of program. Notre dame's not a four year decision. Support here decision. What do you do in your football's over guarantee you're gonna play in the nfl with china education. You'll get what are you gonna learn. And are you going to be better prepared to go in there. You know i was watching Tonight on tv On some sports show where they had the ten major mistake officials made and one of them was grown bettas called tails and the guy said hatch. And i had to laugh because a whole time as notre dame the first thing i said the locker room before the game was we will call tales. We always called. This was a game. But i just think that You're still a forty year decision. Not a four year decision. You talk about the only thing that's going to change it from where you are today to where you'll be five years from now the books you read the people you meet in a dream a dream and the baby. You're gonna meet university in our day and they're going to be the ones that are going to be illness companies and being. Ceo's and they're going to be the leaders that those are the people you're gonna come in contact with and then you get him on campus. Let them talk to your athletes now. The guy that doesn't feel comfortable in that environment isn't gonna get isn't gonna fit well notre dame anyway and now there were always people that didn't want the discipline did want the the challenge. Academically didn't want to have to work that hard on their academics guy that they won't be interested in the university of notre dame necessarily but one thing i used to laugh about was you would read. You would read these top twenty two football players in america. What schools air considered and other day. It'd be listed on about eighteen oven. Maybe seven of them. We were recruiting because we couldn't get in school academically. But they would always put notre dame was one of their schools Florida not because it made them look good so to speak and I think notre dame will get back. I really do because it's a national school a special school. One of the thing that i think is the lou holtz legacy when it comes to football in. It's almost like parenting. In a sense. You mentioned about urban meyer. I think a barry alvarez a host of other coaches you must feel awfully proud of the the legacy of lou holtz from the coaches that went on from underneath year wing onto other programs either as assistance or successful head coaches as well. I've always felt that. I learned this from woody. Hayes have an obligation to prepare your coaches to become head coaches. I'd always explain why we did things and how we did it. the philosophy at center. I think we've made it look simple that everybody would come in and they go. I can do that. I wanna be head coach. But i went down. Visit very alvorada in preparation for the bogue. Gabi speed come down and one time we had about. I don't know maybe a sixty some former graduate assistants were either in major college or professional that had been graduate assistant said many people gone on u. p. care coach for me at the university of arkansas. We we started him out You know monte kiffin coach for him in the defense coordinator tampa bay et cetera. Just you know it's just so many coaches you enjoy it and that's one of the reasons why you wanna talk to me. Now's not because. I prepare them but because of the contribution they made our success but not mind. There's there's their contribution to my success is far greater mike. Entre bution to there's

Trump to give Presidential Medal of Freedom to Lou Holtz
"Giving a prestigious award to former Notre Dame football coach Lou Holtz. We've looked at Lou's life and his career and what he's done for charity, and the football is obvious. He was a great coach, but what he's done beyond even coaching, so Lou will be getting the presidential Medal of Freedom.
