"Mark. Maguire gets issued a free pass. And so now you have runners on. I'm sorry that also scored chase utley. That double did so. You had runners on second one to nothing. lead mark. Maguire gout walked and sammy sosa. Hit a line drive to left field. Barry bonds got thrown out at home by babe ruth as the as the catcher was able to hold onto the ball. I don't know why babe ruth was in left field actually thought i put him in right field. I guess i must have missed that. One knicks that up a little bit the it wasn't the easiest thing. Try to set these lineups. Every game either actually took me about an hour to get through. All of this at all. I'm doing is clicking then. In the bottom half of the fifth yogi bear flew out to center field hana's wagner swung and missed for strike three two outs in the bottom of the fifth. But then cy young actually got a single up. The middle and ty cobb grounded out to end the inning that is eight storyline for their cy. Young gets a hit. There were only five. It's total by the old timers in this game of after vat you have. The top of the six griffey draws a walk to lead off the inning but altro rigas ground out to second base. Griffey was able to advance to second base after that. Then johnny bench grounds out to first base but he does a job and gets griffey to third base. But that brings up pedro martinez. Your nine witter and pedro rounds out to third base. After that you have the bottom of the six roger hornsby hit a ground ball double down the right field line to start off the inning. Good news for the old timers. But then babe ruth strikes out swinging lou. Gehrig gets a bloop single right. Fueled horne's barry has to hold up third. Now you have runners on the corners with one out stan. Musial got struck out looking and then eddie mathews swung and missed for strike number three now. Going to the top half of the seventh chase utley and chipper jones. Both get out to start off the inning. But then barry bonds lines one to center field for a single and then mcguire fouls out first base in the bottom half of the seventh pedro martinez. Still on the mound. By the way he gets a strike. Three looking by yogi berra and then a couple of groundouts by honda swagger cy young to end the inning in in order and then in the top half of the eighth you have the young guns with sosa leading off. He hits a fly. A fly ball shallow centerfield. It's caught for an out and then griffey flies out down the left field foul line but deep griffey then i'm sorry ultra rigas after griffey and out trod rigas. Hit an infield single to third base then. Johnny bench struggled at the plate. This series of goliath grounds out to shortstop immediately after that infield single by alex rodriguez now granted. I'm not blaming johnny bench at all for his struggles. At the plate this series. He was facing Quite literally the greatest Pitching staff aside from maybe the other pitching staff on his team like he is facing very very good pitchers. I'm not surprised at all. A lot of these games. Were low scoring but some of them were not very high scoring actually but going into the bottom. Half of the Oops i'm sorry. I lost my spot real quick. We were in the top half of the eighth. It's one to nothing young guns by the way one run on six hits no errors. The old timers no runs on four hits in just one air down to the bottom of the eighth. Now ty cobb roger horns burien babe ruth or up ty cobb grounds out to second base hornsby swings and misses for strike. Three and babe. Ruth also strikes out swinging now going to the top of the ninth. Albert pools enters the game. As a pinch hitter for pedro martinez and pool smokes a line drive to left field chipper jones. Those strikes out swinging and chase utley hits a fly shallow ball to left field. Which makes it one runner on first into out. Barry bonds then draws a walk and makes it first and second with two outs in. Maguire is up with angi grounds. A through the whole in right center field for a single and album holes somehow was able to score then with runners on first and third. Barry bonds went to third on that play. Sammy sosa grounds out to third baseman but extends lead to two eight that brings in montana rivera to face. Lou garrick stanton museum and eddie mathews at least. Those were the three that he was supposed to face at the start of this game. Lou gehrig is frozen on a strike. Three called stan musial grounds out to shortstop eddie. Mathews comes in clutch with two outs. In doubles down the right field foul or double down the right-field minor should say that brings up yogi berra yogi. Berra can get on. They can get one of the many many awesome hitters on their team up to bat but yogi bear unfortunately flew out to right field to end. The game. judah nothing young guns first game. Roger hornsby had a double stan. Musial had a double in. Eddie mathews had a four. The old timers takab had an air. Though for the young guns. That game. One double by barry bonds when rbi barry barry bonds and rbi mark. Maguire both of those were two out. Rbi's and chase elliott was hit by a pitch pedro martinez goes eight innings. Four hits walks. Only to one of those was intentional and strikes out twelve money on our rivera gets the save gives up one hit and strikes out one in his one inning of work. Cy young got the loss but goes all nine. Innings gives up eight hits one earned. Run to runs in total walked. Five couple of those were intentional. Struck out just one batter on this team. Now going to game number two this. This is going to be an entire episode. I'm barely getting a game to. We're almost fifteen minutes into this segment. Good news is is that there's not much to say about the last game although it was pretty fantastic so up next. We have cindy colfax versus roger clemens now. This game is one of those games. That i was talking about it. There was a lot going on so in this game chipper jones. Mike trout barry bonds mark. Maguire buster posey robinson. I'm sorry ken griffey junior. After buster posey in the six whole robinson cano in the seven hole and alex rodriguez batting eighth roger. Clemens is the starting pitcher for the young gods for the timers. It is ty cobb roger horns berry mickey mantle lou gehrig babe ruth eddie mathews yogi berra and hana's wagner. Saint kill. facts is on the bump for the old timers in this one. Got out of hand rather quickly. Actually cynical facts gets chipper jones. Mike trout and barry bonds to get one to three e. strikes out mike trout in the top of the first in the bottom of the first ty cobb is plugged in the armed lead off the game by roger clemens and then he steals second base. No outs running on second. Now roger hornsby grounds out to third and cobb has to stay put mickey mantle then strikes out on a ball out of the zone chased a little bit. And now looking like ty cobb roger. Clemens might get out of that jam. But then lou gehrig hit a two run home run over right seven or right-center field barely got over the wall. Then it's to nothing old timers and babe. Ruth is up babe. Ruth draws a walk. And then eddie mathews pops out to i. I'm sorry shortstops in the game. I'm sorry i'm getting ahead of myself.

griffey barry bonds eddie mathews babe ruth pedro martinez roger hornsby chase utley Maguire Maguire gout chipper jones ty cobb Sammy sosa altro rigas yogi berra Musial ultra rigas rigas johnny ty cobb roger horns burien bab Albert pools

"I go back to the mystery days. Yes, yes, the mystery mystery days. Do you remember what it was like? When you found out Well to some degree, it was suspicions confirmed because there were rumors floating around, But you could never confirm it. You could never be sure. And you never knew of people were just You know, Echo chamber talking to each other. So when I actually I was sitting in a room and the president of Green Bars said, We are going to acknowledge a 35 year secret relationship with the federal government. You could have knocked me over with a feather. I was what amazed me was an official degree where I was saying this out loud. What was this area? What was the year here was 2000 and nine. I called the CSX. About April. The 15th. We had an 85 page deal on April, the 29th CSX owned it. CSX owned it for 100 years. So at the end of the day, I bought the Greenberg for $20.1 Million. You know, it's a great great, iconic hotel and grounds and, uh, I'm really proudest in our family, but absolutely the people of West Virginia. Have been so proud. This has been one of their real jewels, and it's been that way forever. This place is so beautiful, but you also told me that there is if you look at the history We could understand more. Why Eisenhower thought this might just be the perfect place where there's a long history of the connection to Washington, you know, go back to Martin Van Buren. You know, I mean back to before the Civil War presidents been coming here. Five sitting presidents before the Civil war visited this resort. So this was a very fast and what resort long before the Greenbrier hotel was built just doesn't get here told 1913. And then the Greenbrier Hotel. Uh, you know, has been a lavish and opulent resort hotel. But in the second World War, the green the green bars put it to government purposes. Two very different ones. It was an internment centre for enemy alien diplomats. So you have Japanese, Italians and Germans, right? And then after they leave, the army buys this For four years. This was government property. This is the 2000 bed hospital. 25,000 soldiers came through here, including people like George Marshall. And like the Eisenhower, Can you show me around a little. This is a pretty pretty lavish operation here. It's hard to imagine that No, you have Eisenhower and Kennedy and all these famous faces a famous presidents, obviously and they were here. Sure, sure. Well, you know, Eisenhower. Host of the conference here while he was president and the North American Summit conference. As beautiful as it is, I can't imagine someone I in this building, saying, You know, the Army needs it. We need a hospital here. So therefore beds for room they were packed in here. And we had this elaborate main dining with crystal chandeliers. This was an Army hospital that had crystal chandeliers in the mess hall with you. What would you don't see Too often? Sam Snead, the the legendary golfer was your pro for 40 years and in the forties, you know Sam Snead really hit the tour big in the late thirties. And he was a big name. And you know he grew up nearby and he would come back and visit these guys. Never really good. Good game, but they had lessons from Sam Snead. I walk around. I see Lou Garrick here. I see. Being Crosby here. You see John F. Kennedy here? Sure. That's real life history. This means a lot to America. There's no question about it. And it goes way back. You know, to President Roosevelt and you know Robert E. Lee and on and on and on President Eisenhower here on over and over and over, and it is truly history. It was just a young kid. You know, I can remember my ticket to get to be at the green bar for the very first time in my life and everything was when I was was a hottie Toddy golfer. Believe it or not, when I was a young kid. And everything. And so, so I got to come here to play in our state Amateur. You know, And it was just it was unbelievable to be in the green bar in and to be at the Greenbrier Hotel. I look at the wall. I see people like modern stores like Ben Affleck and great significant historical figures like Eleanor Roosevelt Pictures of them right here. Sure. I mean, now that you're here, everybody who's anybody? They're going to put your picture on the wall after this, That's going to cost you. I'm sorry. Nothing's free these days. We go from World War two, The Cold War, right? And instead of us being the only nuclear power and the atomic bomb being fresh in our minds, we quickly understand the Soviets have the bomb. Through a whole generation. We learn in schools and through the military, the nuclear war could happen. So that really didn't That's the reality stuck with Dwight D. Eisenhower. How did that his knowledge of here? Play into where he would build this. Government's survival center. Let's say first of all, it was away from Washington 240 miles, and you don't want to be close to Washington. We're assuming the fundamental assumption is Washington is a primary target. So you want to be out of town. You want to be away from the fallout? And there's a railroad line that goes right to Union station from here. So in the fifties, when they were planning this, the rail line was the connection. The other thing was Yes, there is this physical facility. But it was maintained at a constant state of operational readiness for 30 years. 24 7 for third year so you could hide the maintenance of the bunker. Within the maintenance of this of this larger facility. So the years 1958 they decide that if we're going to get 400 plus, House of representatives relocated if we're going to get 100 senators relocated. You got to get into someplace where they're going to survive. They choose this place right? They come up with a pretty ingenious idea. They dig a hole in the ground. They put the bunker on the box underground. And then they build an addition to the green Bar right on top of it. So you say, Hey, I'm making the resort bigger. Right? So we're modernizing. We're adding air conditioned guest them. Well, you forget in 1960. That was a big upgrade. This this building was an air condition in 1960. So we're adding new guest rooms. And so it was a plausible explanation. It made perfect sense. The Greenbrier Is positioning itself in the modern resort world. So you get this done in about three plus years and all of a sudden you have a real crisis. We notice the Cuban missile crisis, and there was a sense in that time in the sixties. We're going to nuclear work have a nuclear war with the Soviet Union. It looked pretty likely there, you know, I remember it stresses done just in time, right? This was done in early 1962. He's sitting here in hindsight, looking back. The irony is closer than ever came to be activated. Was six months after it was ready to go. We'll be right back with more of what made America great with Brian Kill me of Fox News of Radio Special. Hey, let radio advertising keep your business top of mind with customers all summer.

"Fantasy football Purposes trying to give you all the best information possible not. Everyone's pro this. I'm not a pro. No-one's amazing no one wins all their leaks a lot. I one fantasy. Football leagues before by claim to fame is in the twenty nine thousand nine season. I went undefeated in fantasy football and won the championship in a twelve team. Had russell wilson. Chris carson decay metcalf mark andrews george kettle. I was running through teams. So i'm trying to help you do that and embarrassed all your friends. So you're not. The one was to sit in a waffle house for twenty four hours trying to scuff down as many waffles as possible. So you can get the hell out of there. I want your net with friends. Neither one stuck in. Let's get into the eagles first-person everyone's going to think of froth into purposes for fantasy purposes. Is the quarterback jalen hurts. Maybe not one of the best quarterbacks in the nfl this year on a legitimate basis in terms of what's happening on the field but for fantasy purposes. I think will easily be a top ten fantasy football quarterback this season crunch some numbers and his four starts last year. Jalen hurts average. Sixty eight yards per game. Boom you're getting fifty sixty yards probably about the average is around forty fifty forty five fifty yards per game rushing this year maybe more. I don't think it's unrealistic us in the past that it gets to like nine hundred thousand yards mar. The way l'amour has in the past. You look at his last. Four starts this last season compared to how the mark jackson fair to start at the end of the twenty eighteen season. They're pretty similar. They're pretty similar in wa her. It's probably going to win. The nfl. Mvp and his second season is first season in the full. Sort of like lamar exit. You can have a gigantic fantasy impact if you get into certain around them away compared to some other top quarterbacks around the league you won't be the steal of the draft for you to help you. When you're did some numbers hurts in those four games average twenty-three fantasy points per game as a quarterback taking in rushing yards. Interceptions from was lost fastener everything. That's pretty good them around. I've been targeting hurts and my leagues around you know. Eight and nine is where. I'm trying to take him out abominably. If i haven't drafted patrick mahomes or cuyler. Murray early but i don't think it's unreasonable. That hurts can have a similar performance to colin. Murray himself who. I think we can consider top three fantasy quarterback there issue behind patrick mahomes and josh on. I think that's a top three nucleus top tier because of note homes is is you know god level player and alan and murray bring so much value as runners. We'd there's a phrase in the fantasy. Football world called the economic quarterback lay the konami code playing nintendo atari way back when the secret codes will unlock things economic. Qb is a quarterback that can impact the game as a russia. And bring you that added value that usually get from running backs those easy rushing yards. Pick up where they can do that. And also throats one hundred and seventy five yards a game and a touchdown per game. That guy is providing excellent. Excellent value free syrian. That eight nine range some quarterbacks. Sometimes you went up to take them earlier if you really on hurts if you think. There's going to be a run on. Quarterbacks are already started running quarterbacks in he's your guy it'd be taken around seven. But i really take him and ramen eight or nine than say take who You know derek hard around thirteen or something like that. I think he is better for you. Or maybe pair. Maybe draft him and get your second quarterback little earlier maybe go for a trae lands. Who might not start right away but you pay with him. The toasted through the end of the draft because i is okay but maybe struggles early later in the season trae lands will probably be in that grade. Kyle shanahan offense. Wealthy wants to plan when the guy should have said earlier is the aspect of the eagles being your fantasy league. Probably a lot of you. When you're doing this you're drafts in your in your fantasy league given that they're probably close friends that you grew up with our family members that obviously were around me growing up in the philadelphia area. The probably all he goes dance. So i will say there isn't tendency for maybe not used specifically who's watching her lesson in this if you're listening to be radio you're probably pretty hard for eagles. Fan pretty hardcore. Nfl fan but some people do fantasy football fantasy. Football is fun for everyone for everyone. It should be for everyone. it's fun it's entertaining and adds an extra spice. Nfl season beyond just rooting for the eagles wins and losses. But i think some people that are a little bit more casual have a tendency to overdraft players from their own teams. Happens happens to everyone. I think i took we could talk about walk ins and a little bit later. I'm gonna dynasty draft right now. I took him in the sixteenth. Round of my dynasty draft. I think is He was his ranking was around. Eighty one on the sleeper act for the other people. Might you sleeper for their dynasty leagues and just for clarity purposes dynasty league is redo a draft dodger team. Natural team going forward. You know that's your team forever. But you will supplant that with Each sprang you'll do a rookie draft from players that get drafted the nfl that trash off for a second third round picks. You are adding talented but that nucleus from your first draft. Is your team going forward. So i think was is a guy who get back so eagles players may be overvalued in your specific leagues with your your tight social network of fellow eagles fans but if the situation were nearly with maybe co workers who are from around the country or from around the area that might not be eagles fans. I've been in work leagues before back on a head office before i was doing the angry nation thing and crushing it all the time i was in some fantasy leagues and there are people from all over the company. People that are steelers fans giants fans jets. You people from up the northeast corridor. I guess you could say people from amtrak. lambs played in the league that phantoms. From all over the situation with your like that maybe eagles players aren't overvalued. But that just i'm going to be worried from. Everyone wants to have eagles on their team. Everyone wants the eagles players to succeed. So it feels great if you have an eagles player on your fantasy roster and they do well because that means they're doing fantasy league they're doing well for the eagles in real life. You're feeling good but the way. I tried to rationalize it is that even if i don't have an eagles player on his on my fantasy team that if they perform well in real life that's more important it will say like talking about fantasy. Oh the eagles lost. My fancy team did good shut the hell up. I'd rather go. Oh and sixteen and all five of my fantasy football leagues and you know. Lose three hundred four hundred dollars or whatever all the fees out of the being if it means. The eagles won every week. So that's that's my motto. That's my mentality there. What we will talk about like i talked about herds. There is value that you can find in these eagles players. I looked you the running back. Where really intriguing this your mile sanders. I've seen around the fortieth fiftieth in that forty to fifty range on average draft spot. If you're in a p. pr league. I'm kind of avoiding mile. Sanders right now. The drops last season barry concerning the drops this summer. And i thought lassie's thought about podcasts. My writing for bleeding relation Some of the things. I'm worried about the drops last year because of how well sanders performed as a receiver as a rookie. In twenty nine hundred. I thought it might have been carson. Wentz is fall is inability to throw acura passes in the short intermediate game could have really affected mile. Singers is catches. You know statistically as a receiver but in training camp he still has a case of the drops. And i don't know if that's going to change in what hurts him. Is that the eagles behind him. Have to superbly-talented pass catching running backs in boston. Scott and kenny gain weight. And maybe if it's a noah standardly words not pbr. You're comfortable taking mile standards as your are beat sue if it's p. pr. I'm kind of avoided miles altogether. I think there's a realistic scenario by the end of this year. Kenny gain wall is getting as much run as many snaps as mile sanders if an injuries to happen a mile sanders for some reason has been banged up at different hundreds career. I can see you know kenny. Gain while given him what. The lou garrick Supplanting him and taking over.

Played in more consecutive games than anybody. Lou Garrick held the record for decades in 2130. Cal Ripken played in his 2131st game in 1995, but didn't stop there. He played another 501 more consecutive, like another 3.5 years. Yeah. He finished his career playing in 2632 consecutive games. Think it goes without saying a record that will never be broken. Davey Lopes of the L. A Dodgers set a major league baseball record on this day, stealing his 38th consecutive base. That is hard to do. It's hard to steal three bases in a row. Much last 38. That was a record then it's not a record now. Record for consecutive stolen bases is 50 Five. Oh, wow! By one. Vince Coleman. Wow. We're idiots. I verne's pretty cool man. Nobody rocks a polo. Like josh vernier. There are a lot of people who what they should be cooler than us. They gotta come up with something else. Man y'all super bowls man do something else and to me. If you're gonna do it grow that thing real thick. I mean it. It's gotta be thick. I feel like people were half assing it and they weren't giving it everything they had like. We did like me. And i know maybe it's just up. Kansas city listeners. Here but i know we've got people all around the world maybe all around the world but if you don't know him looking up i was purely going for brian busby book. That's what i was looking for trying. And i mean i mean like not little brian like nineteen circa nineteen ninety. Five full force brian. Little size eddie. A fixed dash and he had an jacket like that brian. If you're listening man. I'm sorry you know it was bad. You know bad than yourself. That's what i was looking for like there were half hasn't it and i don't think they really want it and i want to see if there are. They gonna do this every monday. I mean kelsey said today he had he was going to give another week or so because he had to check with girl because she does not like it. Apparently but that's that's that's what's going to happen. We the pencil stash. Nobody looks good in pencil stash. It's gotta be porn stash. It's brian busby stash. It's gotta be it's gotta be tom selleck. It can't be a. I'm gonna get you and i'm in a couple of those guys and i'm going to kill. You can't be that's not. That's a winning proposition. If you're going to get it go get it in traverse needs to know my wife. Did she refused to kiss me. During that entire might be dealing with that with with his girl kayla he. He named dropped her in the press conference today. That is really so you feel that you can say her name now. That's her name. I'm not disrespecting her by saying her name. That's what her name is a. You disrespected him. I think we were. You still should be. I mean travis. His girl travis's lady travis's longtime girlfriend kayla nicole. Thank you. i think that's what she goes by pretty sure that's what she goes by. So you feel so you feel comfortable that you can go kayla nicole. I mean yeah. I don't have a relationship with travis. But i mean travis i'd be i'd be happy to hang out some time we'll see i can't go kayla. Be personally. I have worked a foundation event for him. I have a did. He did a he did a he. He had some sort of charity thing in me and vern were celebrity participants in it in. It was for the travis kelsey foundation. We shook up. We talk. I ate the pizza that i'm sure he paid for so i can't call in kayla. Archaic caller kayla. I've got a relationship with it. I don't know if you do me back. I don't but i mean i'm just gonna. I'm not call her by her name. I feel like that's respectful. The that's more respectful. The media. Say and travis kelsey girl. Her name is kayla she is. She is much larger. She is much larger than her relationship with travis. Kelsey she's got her own life at allerton. Hang yeah she does have her own ivy. The real the real reason i wanted to talk about this is because my man. Gd twelve gotta shout out in the press cafe travis. Kelsey did not name anybody but gehrig when he said we. When we decided to do mush stash monday. I texted gehrig. I texted dealer. And i told him to tell the boys. We're going to do this on monday. We're going to get mustache monday. Going in training. Care one of the craziest things i've ever seen. They really loved them. Some lou gehrig eater. I've made they love loopier dater. I don't i don't know what it is like. I sit back. And i think seriously you imagine what they do. If he ever scored a touchdown almost ad one. There was a blocked kick. They got called back because of the penalty. And i was devastated. You can't advance it on it but it could be a month. You cant dance it. But could you imagine. If he caught a touchdown pass and scored. They would like he's the he's the bench player in basketball if they care so that everyone is with the cow. Pats gonna get get him when they've been giving him some time with the ones not much for. He's getting a couple of reps here that you know that number two wide receiver spots. Open gary to get the job. But they're going to give him a small chance engaged. Not open for him. It's more open for byron prego. It's not it's more open for you right now. Gary but i mean if he ever scored touchdown they would all be out there. They wouldn't even give him a chance to get his own celebration. It became rudy. I don't know what it is. They carry him off the field. Somebody will pick him up and carry. Rydell they would they would they would they would and it would be genuine. It would be like. Hey let's mess with the. It would be genuine they really. I don't know what it is like. I used to think. Maybe he has pitchers autumn or something. No genuine really like lou. Gehrig lugar gator. I really think they love. They really love this guy. I used to say. And i said it's all the time that. Gd twelve my man. I love you but like it was clear. It was clear the way you say that is like i've been his biggest supporter. Gd twelve baby hashtag. b twelve. Nobody else has been doing that in kansas city. Except for steve all right. I've been gary dealers big supporter his entire career here in kansas city. Every time i have a bone every time he's been cut. I said don't worry he'll be back he'll be back they love him. They loved them some. Gd twelve on that. Kansas city chiefs roster. He's always going to have a spot on this team. I used to say it was because he was the bag man and he might have been the bag man at one point but he has. He has graduated to where he's getting invited to weddings. He's getting invited to family. Gatherings like gehrig's got the invitation for life. Now patrick mahomes and travis kelsey will make sure that dude stays employed for the chiefs. As long as they are in kansas city. Is he going to be impending. I bet you think he's i met. Pat mentioned him all the time to pat love. The is the groomsmen or is he an like. That's that's wow. I don't know. I don't know how tight pat is with like his hometown. Do i read an article in kansas star about some his friends that he flies up here from texas to games and stuff. But i don't know how deep that is. Because i got i got five deep. I don't know pats fine five. We know jackson's number one behind him. Put how does gear is lou. Gehrig theater behind it. An can. he close the distance in the time that he has leading up to being able to do this like he can't If he's not a groomsman he can't be here. that's disrespectful. That's that's reserved for the you said. I think he has graduated but i still do believe he understands one his role at these. Outings is pitcher taker. Think i don't think he's graduated from. Hey let's let's the group together. Let's take pictures here. Lou garrick deeter. You take them like i think like i think he's still in that in that space put. He's gotta be hilarious or something. I wish you could put a camera on third base to see how he hits the ball in. see it. The way deceives you you can call it a. You can call some guys. Infield hits cheap but not hit. He has an amazing technique in two thousand eight in may of two thousand they. Actually each euro stole two bases giving him a career total of two hundred ninety two surpassing the previous seattle mariners record of two hundred ninety career stolen bases surpassing second baseman. Julio cruz who had the record of two hundred ninety crews who now does spanish-language broadcasts for the mariners. Game watching the broadcast in in the booth as each a broke his record in two thousand and eight on july two twenty nine. Th of two thousand and eight zero became the second youngest player to amass three thousand top level professional hits one thousand two hundred seventy eight in japan in one thousand seven hundred twenty two in the united states after ty cobb and i i realized that i kinda read that wrong but basically basically. He became the second after tied cobb to have done To have reached three thousand hits the fastest two to do. So and is actually i mean. He became the second japanese professional as well to get three thousand. Hits in two thousand eight but by two thousand eighteen had emerged in the media that each year was known within baseball for his tradition of exhorting. Exhorting the american league team with a profanity laced game speech in the clubhouse prior to the all star game asked if the speech had any effect on the american league's decade-long winning streak each road deadpanned. I've gotta say. Over ninety percent minnesota first baseman justin monroe described the effect. Grope if you've never seen it it's definitely something pretty funny. It's hard to explain the effect it has on everyone. It's such a tense moment. Everyone's a little nervous for the game and then he comes out. He doesn't say a lot the whole time. He's the air in there and all of the sudden the manager gets done with the speech. And he bob's off boston slugger. David ortiz would simply say it's why we win then that brings us to the two thousand nine world baseball classic despite struggling for most of the tournament. Ichiro provided the game winning hit in the championship series against south korea with two outs in the top of the tenth inning. He broke a three two three. I with a with a two run single off the ball in the dirt. This would prove to be the margin of victory. Japan's five two three defeat of south korea. Each row ended the night. Four for six bringing his total of six for ten an wbz championship games and two thousand and two thousand nine regular season. Though each euro began by going on the dl for the first time in his career he had a bleeding ulcer which the team. Dr mich stone ray said may have been the cause for part of may have been caused in part by the stress of playing in the wbz after missing eight games. Each road debuted on april fifteenth. And go and went to for five. I should say against the angels including a grand slam for his three thousand. Th and eighty fifth hit which gives him the record for the most career hits. Excuse me at actually tied. The japanese record for most career hits and in fact harman harman moto. Who has the record. Isao horror moto had the record had actually been flown out to seattle to witness the event each year surpassed the record on the following night. Ichiro was named a number thirty on the sporting news. Is two thousand. Nine list of fifty greatest current players in baseball voted upon by one hundred panel of experts and former stars in may and june each euro surpassed his own franchise record of twenty seven game hitting streak. Ichiro would go on to record. Forty four hits in june of two thousand nine his twentieth career month with more with forty or more hits the previous player that had accomplished this. We're staying useful in the nl and lou garrick in the al on september. Sixth against the oakland a.'s. Ichiro collected his chief thousand. Hit on the second pitch of the game. And they'll be hit. I should say on that second. Pitch of the game a double along the first base foul line. He is the second fastest player to reach the milestone behind al simmons on september thirteenth against the texas rangers. He collected his two hundred eight of the season for his ninth year. Setting an all time major league record. Ichiro recorded two hundred and ten minutes with the orix in nineteen ninety-four thereby giving him a total of ten seasons with two hundred professional career. Hits with two outs. In the bottom of the night on september eighteenth. Ichiro hit a walk off two run home run against yankees. Closer money on rivera scoring michael saunders. In one of the most memorable victories of the season his owner made a his homer made a winner out of felix hernandez who was actually in the line for the laws despite having only allowed one run in nine innings pitched on september twenty six in two thousand nine. Each year was injected for from a game for the first time in his career. Arguing that a strike out. From toronto's david percy had been outside each euro used as bad to draw a line on the outer edge of the fleet and was immediately tossed by umpire. "So we have four brand new ones and privilege to go out to Florida, which is the most open and there's so many desirable places to of Brian's new Fox Nation. Episodes come from Florida, starting with Key West. We went back. Even that did not knowing fully that Can. Ken Burns was doing it. We want to Hemingway's house, and we go out to Hemingway's house in the Key West, where he spent 5.5 years We wrote old Man in the Sea, and so many of the great works to see what he experienced and how he took it over and why it's synonymous with his character and to see his house the way he left it almost From the day he had. It is pretty amazing. Even the bars he frequented and wrote about sloppy Joes. The new one in the old one. We have a chance to have to bring that public little Havana. Which is the most successful immigrant program since the pilgrims came to America, Little Havana, they as a abandoned Cuba they had to these doctors and lawyers and scientists. Became sanitation workers, construction workers and janitors in order to make it in America. And they gradually did grateful to be here while retaining their heritage. And now that one of the most powerful political forces in the state And then had a chance to go out to Greenbriar in West Virginia with his elite resort with this wonderful history and in Greenbrier unlikely, even though it was great because presidents have visited there, I think six and all dating back to Martin Van Buren. You have celebrities like Lou Garrick and and Teddy Roosevelt who have been through there, But the bigger story is what happened behind the resort dug into the ground into the West Virginia mountains. Was a Washington It was a place for the house and Senate to go should the Soviets bomb and it was commissioned by Eisenhower. Top secret Till 1991. Even the owners of Greenbrier didn't know what they put behind them. They didn't know that some of the wait wait. Staff was actually working for the U. S government. They would be out there pretending to be fix it guys, and, uh or people that clean rooms at the same time. They were maintaining this Greenbrier as if they had to take in Congress in any day. Wow, that that is crazy, And I know you also go to New York. But let's go back through some of the episodes and and when we'll start, you will start with Little Havana. Because I know that's the first episode and that's down to Miami. And we're talking about a time when the Castro regime takes over communism takes hold of Cuba and these people. They risk their lives to leave. Yeah, It's pretty amazing. They were going to die. Uh And they also so the quality of life disappearing and I guess the original thought was. We'll go over in America for a while. There's no way this guy Castro is going to stay there. You know, the Bob wants to get back there anyway. And you know, Kennedy is not going to let this last a communist country right in our hemisphere. Well, we know what happened. We know what is so when they decided to come here to Miami, uh, my type. The Jewish community was there before them. They dug in had little and earn their way up. And this cute. These group of Cubans who have now about four or five generations in just out worked people. And they were just happy to be in America, And when it became clear that their stuff was gone, their history would never come back and they couldn't go back. They became Americans, and I think people are going to like this story. Especially this Republican mayor of Miami, who talks about his family story. Marco Rubio talks about his family story, and now he's U. S senator. The others, an up and coming star in the Republican side, Mayor And it gets their emblematic of the games. The Cuban community is made and everybody knows. Um you know, if you want to win Florida, you have to win them over. Yeah, and a lot of them did support President Trump in both elections, right? Yeah. I mean, they did not look at what Barack Obama did reestablishing relations with the communist country. As a positive for them, and a lot of people said Well, that's old Cuban. That's the old little Havana the You know, The new generation wants to make amends, and we should have relationship with no, not really. They were not happy and they were happy that President Trump shut that down again. And they also he went out of his way to make inroads There. Also, you know, for LBJ has gotten the black vote, they say, because he introduced civil rights reform. They say that Harry Truman's gotten the Jewish vote for the Democratic Party because he was the one that gave statehood to Israel. And he still retains that loyal to the Democratic Party retains it today. I think the Republican Party has the Cuban community and one of the first To really embrace them and understand them was Ronald Reagan, and they talk about his visit and what it meant for them for him to come down there, and Reagan's pictures in those headlines for when he visited are everywhere. And of course you go to Key West and the Hemingway home and museum having way story, uh, he that that man not only to write books He was a journalist. He was there on D Day. Watching the carnage at Omaha Beach. It's amazing his life and story it is, and he also used his fishing boat when it became clear that the U boats were out in around. The coast of Florida. He was taking his fishing boat out there pretending to be the fishing boat. But he was actually looking for u boats that direct connection to was the the Department of War, which is the Department of Defense in World War two and then in World War one. He couldn't get in because he didn't qualify. So you volunteered to be a medic, and he got wounded in war in World War one. And then you know you this guy lived his life at sea, dies at 61. He was obviously failing mentally. They had about nine concussions in his life, and maybe that played into it. But he really couldn't think clearly anymore. It sounds like almost like you hear the complaints from the football players where he must have some concussion syndrome. It sounds like in retrospect. But to think the impactful life he led. He just was a person of impact. And I got that I felt like he would be coming home that night to the Hemingway house. Mean that's how real that house felt and they have this typewriter there in the room, and they say it's exactly how we left it. And even though we drank a lot and seem to live a life like he wanted Which is undisciplined. It was really not when it came to writing first thing right for four or five hours every single day, so and then before that, then he'd get into whatever hobby you had to do. Take us to the Greenbrier, this story of Congress and the underground bunker. I mean, it's hard for people who didn't live through the cold War to understand. I mean, people and growing up. You just knew there was always the threat of an attack of a nuclear attack. So what is the bunker like? Did you get to go into it? Oh, yeah, And you know you have a 20 ton door, their picture of the biggest safe in the world and this door, you have to push it hard and then once you get it going, it's 20 tons going in the right direction. But that's done. I mean, you have a four You can get an 18 wheeler through the bottom tunnel to deliver supplies. Wow. And and just to think you know how they say you have to be ready to fight tonight. Age. Andrew Jackson famously said that We fight tonight when the British came came into New Orleans. That's how they felt every day..

"Katie's researcher. Espn he's a legend. Now we have to when we try to get in touch with them. We have to go through his people. hembo. I was told going into this. That i'm required to ask you how your day is going. I don't know if that's along the same lines as like spitzer water you know. Go oranges in your dressing room. But i'm i'm told that i gotta ask you how your day's going much much the opposite buster. I takes in one taylor swift at four thirty this morning. Saying we're gonna have to cancel my segments. They taylor and here's why i broke down. My car broke down right outside. The lincoln tunnel this morning on my way to new york city needed to call the tow truck. Bring the all the way back here. I did end up making it back home in time to do this segment. Which of course. The highlight of every single week of mine but at four thirty in the morning i thought it was something of pipedream so it has not been pleasant day here for me. And my chrysler two hundred man that And all kidding aside. You didn't have people to help you. I mean to be in that spot. I always pity the people who had those moments when they're in these high traffic areas in their car breaks down. Oh my god that must have been a the worst good news. Is that you and i wake up so early. That no one's really on the roads anywhere in the world We're driving so and minimum. I was able to avoid that headache but the rest of it wasn't on all right. Today's lou gehrig in baseball. And i know your favorite player all time. Has cal ripken. I was going to tell you the story about cow something. I always thought he did such a wonderful job in nineteen ninety five. The year that he broke lou gehrig's consecutive game record of two thousand one hundred and thirty You know as you know. When was the player. He was sort of the old school you know. Don't talk about your success very much. He wasn't someone who was naturally few save when dealing with reporters He was generally reserved. But i think cal figured out early that year that That this is something that that fans would celebrate any also viewed as an opportunity to celebrate lou gehrig and so every city. Because i don't have to go every time we the orioles went to a new city. That year i writer for the baltimore sun You know he would sit down with the reporters from the the the place where we were and one of the questions he was always asked. What have you learned about lou. Garrick and cow did such a great job of going through what he had studied on about. Lou gehrig what the information he'd gotten a batum to bring out in two to forward all those great stories about the iron man. Now that's tremendous bus. You're probably not surprised to hear that growing up in both morley your columns were among the first. I ever remember reading in the sun. But that's when i i was i was a kid at the time so i had just learned to read. I love baseball. I got the baltimore sun every day. And i would comb through newspaper every single day during the streak. Obviously it was such an extraordinary time to be reading that kind of stuff cal. I've had the chance to knee. Cal ripken junior and hang out with him. A couple times over the Recently and it always strikes me. How much reverence. He has for the history of the game like his because the space that he occupies with the game as monstrous but he understands that his place in the grand scheme of this is much as much less significant. And i know there are a lot of people not besmirch those records the garagan rick and record as being somewhat insignificant in overdone. And obviously i totally disagree. People are entitled to their own opinions but as it relates to lou. Gehrig us only wanted to add was on this day like i tried to do once a year. This is my annual plea your listeners. If you've ever had the opportunity to watch the movie pride of the yankees you absolutely must. It is my favorite sports movie. I think gary cooper doesn't extraordinary job of of chronicling the life of lou gehrig and really doesn't like because it has one hundred years ago now really holds up really really well inch demonstrates his his character his struggle obviously his relationship with his wife obviously has luckiest man speech. Which for my money is is the greatest ever given by an athlete all right. Let's talk about baseball in two thousand and twenty one. Who is the most underrated star in the sporting. Your eyes cluster. I have a buddy who lives in cincinnati who takes me every week and asks. When are you going to introduce america. Jesse winker and my answer is today my friend today. So waker buster is mashing this season but not just this season using weighted runs great plus from fan graphs. Winker is one of only five qualified bidders to produce a batting line at least sixty percent above the league average since the start of the twenty twenty season the other. Four are mike trout ronald one soto and fernando tatis season that kind of company. So what makes weaker so good. It's pretty simple. Actually one he pummeled fastballs. He was the highest slugging percentage against the pitch of any qualified. That are in baseball in two. He drives the ball to all field..
