"You know a culture in baseball riding in in the way it's covered. Where there's this new wave of statistical Information and ways of looking at the game and what players did you know with war munch angles and all those things until I've seen. Lists. On the Internet that you can find stories that say that are about you know who who are the players who might not belong in the hall of fame you're on the bubble or the least impressive. Things and usually bronx on that list and. It's amazing to me because you know I sorta judge you can. You can sort of judge players and whether they belong in the hall of fame to a certain extent on how they impacted the game. I'll give you an example, use a different sport. There's always an argument I mean, who's the greatest hockey player in the history of the game? And often. Wayne Gretzky is is talked about I mean he's the great one. He was greatest player ever. I've always felt Bob your the greatest player ever saw because he changed the way the game was great. That's what brock did. And he got to the cardinals and took off and remember the other thing interesting about Lou Brock was he only played one season of class a ball before he was called to the big leagues. So that had a lot to do with him struggling those first couple preseason. and then finally finding himself in a different situation here in Saint. Louis. But he the way the game was played in the National League. You know when he stole I'll give you another example when who stole and nineteen seventy four. when he stole hundred eighteen basis that was more basis than seventeen of the twenty, four Major League teams through. So you know when I think about Lou. Brock, I mean besides the fact that he had three thousand hits. The fact that he still nine hundred, thirty, eight basis and still holds the national record with a one hundred eighteen steals in one season. He was a unique player that changed the way. The game was played in the National League for the next you know ten fifteen years and I and I. Love, that the end is what he did in the World Series 'cause those teams didn't know how to deal with Lou, brock coming and nights and sixty four the New York Yankees never seen anything like. Our wrap it up with this in Danneal is my guest what what is your lasting impression if you had to Kinda seminar what what in somebody asks you by Lou Brock Wha what's going to and it could be off the field on the field all of it what do you think about when you think of Lou? Brock. Well usually think. Bronco. Broiler And he probably would too. Because you'd want to sell you. That's Okay I always wanted to see him take the field with. No just sort of a personal you know I I have a lot of I have several encounters blue and like I said, they're all good. But one I remember was late in my career at the post dispatch I was working on a story. I went over to the Ballpark village during one of the hall of fame ceremonies. There's an opportunity to catch some of those hall of famers and talk to them. And And they have as you know, you're part of it. They have a little private party beforehand upstairs the restaurant. And I went up and I tried to talk to a couple of them and and they were like, I'm not doing that. Not Right now. but I went went up and I caught Lou before he walked into this private party he said sure come on in. So he takes me inside and we sit down and this is a party with his peers guys. He hasn't seen in years maybe. You know fun time and it's a private time. It's not supposed to be a press conference or anything. But he brought me in sat me down on sat there at the table spend twenty, twenty, five minutes with me until I was done and and and then said, okay, you know thank you very much I mean that's the kind of person he was and there weren't a lot of people that I dealt with and my years of sports writing. that were anything like Brooke US Amazing Hey Dan, thanks so much for your time and your recollections of. The Great Lou Brock in always appreciate your work and your books and all your years at the post-dispatch. Thanks so much. Thank Stan always great to be with you buddy. That Stan. O'Neal.

"One of the great writers in. Saint Louis for many many years longtime at the Saint Louis Post dispatch and a guy that had many articles on Lou Brock and wrote one of the articles very recently and I say recently within the last few years and it's why I wanted to get him on is Dan. O'Neill. Dan. It's always great to hear Your Voice I know you've got a bunch of books out on the Blues in the cardinals and we could talk about that. But I WANNA get you on to talk about the late. Great. Lou Brock it's always good to hear your voice. How are you? I'm Gert Dan always good to visit with you my old radio parker absolutely. When when you think Lou Brock what comes to mind for you? Well, you know I, of course, I think a lot of people is. Think of the world series. When you think Lou Brock I mean he was just so incredible. In Three World Series Three, seven game world series had. Just amazing numbers of you know especially in sixty eight, twenty, four, sixty, four, and set a record record with thirteen. Kids in the world series I don't think I've ever seen A more dynamic player everyday player that is not pitcher per se but but in the lineup everyday player. as Lou Brock, and that was especially highlighted in the world series when he helped the cardinals to a significantly chips and lose a heartbreaker and sixty eight and game seven. But you know the most amazing thing about his world series stuff is he did all that in the series. Two teams that won world series and yet because of the presence of Bob, Gibson was never a world series. MVP So. It's pretty amazing when you think about it, here's another amazing thing. I was kind of looking at the stats and. You know when he's still a hundred eighteen basis in nineteen, seventy four. He was He turned thirty five years old that summer. and as it turns out that he stole, he stole nine hundred, Thirty, eight basis in this greer five, hundred and seventy eight of those steals came after his thirtieth birthday incredible and two in two hundred, sixty, two after his thirty fifth birthday, right so that's pretty amazing. stat and. just shows he was a very unique player I i. There's not too many players you can compare them to. He was also dynamic in the fact of what he did in the community and beloved in Saint Louis. You know Gibson is kind of this You know just a hard line. Kinda. Guy Ozzy is a different, Guy? Stan was a different guy in in in different ways not bad good at you know just different Louis beloved and it's just a different way to with all these guys were so in personality, how would you define Lou Brock when you think about him and the community here in Saint Louis in his relationship with the fans? Yeah No, you're. You're absolutely right and I mean I know all those guys you mentioned and they're all good guys. But we were talking as we've talked before but Lou Brock was unconditionally a good guy. It didn't matter what the situation was didn't matter who you were where you were. He was a good guy. You know you take Bob Gibson who I know as a as A. Nice. person good character down deep. But he's a little more cranky and you got to catch them at the right time scandal. alleged. A little edge. Yeah Louis Stand the man I think those to compare really well, they were always good I'll give you a little story about Lou a good friend of mine bumped into Lou Brock one time at the airport. And he was missing granddaughter's birthday. Because he was travelling and they happen to be getting their shoes shined at the airport. So they're sitting right there next to them or next to each other, and he made some conversation with Lou net came up that he was missing his. Granddaughter's birthday. So he had bought him a book are bought his grand granddaughter. I'm sorry a book my friend. and lucid. Well, let me see that book and he said, do you mind if I I wish your granddaughter Happy Birthday. So he opened up the book and the wrote Happy Birthday to my friend's granddaughter by me and signed it Lou Brock. So that's the kind of stuff Lou Brock did you know on a daily basis south mix community? He was a special man when you think about the greatest trades in in baseball history and I, know you love the game of baseball it'll go down as the greatest trading cardinals history. But when you look at it league wide, where, where do you think this one ranks in terms of baseball history? Well it it might be the most famous Dan I mean. There's been another really lopsided traits. and that trade in particular. A Blue Brock coming here for Ernie Braulio. Was An interesting one because almost to a man, the cardinal players in nineteen, sixty four were against that trait. They couldn't believe the cardinals were making that trade. I mean Braulio at one eighteen games, the previous season, and he'd won twenty one games for the cardinals. And he was very popular guy in the clubhouse and and. A leader on that team, and that trade really shocked the cardinal clubhouse and of course, Broccoli and Chicago. Hadn't hadn't really found himself yet. You're still struggling a bit. He was playing center field and right field for the cubs. Hadn't hit over about two fifty eight or you know right around there for two or three seasons. I hadn't really established himself as as the kind of player he would when he came here. And then he comes here and just completely changed. It really changed the baseball and the National League for the next several years I. Mean they're just there wasn't a player like brock on the scene at that time who was a combination of both power and speed I mean you had more wills with the dodgers who had stolen one hundred, four basis. couple of seasons earlier but wheels was pretty much a singles hitter on Bass Bass. Brockett double figure home runs seven times in his career So he was a different different cat you know he could hit the ball out of the park or you to get on base and steal second and He was just a a unique player to completely change the culture for the cardinals. He fit right into you know it was different. Because the cardinals. Had Black players. They had Bob Gibson and Kirk blood, and they were he was a perfect fit here and and they became very close team and took off. Of course, I'm sixty four and you know as we've talked before you name, you can name to three guys who keys to the cardinals success in the sixties and Brock was circling right up there at the top of the list I think you have to go back to. That timeframe to and when he got hit number three thousand and all the steals and then mix in the championships and take a look at the time frame of when he went into the hall of fame in Nineteen eighty-five, he has to be considered at least in my opinion one of the most underrated hall of famers in the history of the game d do you think that's a fair statement? Yeah. Yeah I do because I've seen. You know especially I think the end unless I don't know ten fifteen years. When you had sort of this new wave of statistical.

"But it's a fun ride it when you've got new heroes and guys that are coming through on a on a different guy every night, and they're starting to win and do things right. That's fun, and I'm excited for the Giants, and I hope that Siri's Against the Mariners goes well, you know, one of the things rich. We're talking to. Rich Walton can be are this afternoon. One of the things that I've noticed, And of course, you know you used to pitch. The starting pitchers really aren't getting too many wins. It's really going to the bullpens and you start looking through all these teams and The bullpen's are the ones that have the winds and not two starters, a different kind of, you know knowledge, a different kind of ways. Stats are sorted out your thoughts on how much bullpen is being used this year. Well, look, I mean, what was the summer camp? Three weeks. A cz? Muchas. We complain about spring training being too long. This is a great example of the value of a proper spring training for everybody. Whether it's hitters or pictures or starters, because let's face it. The 1st 30 games across the board were pretty sloppy. From fielding to base running. No, obviously, pictures not going deep. I don't think you're going to see that change a whole lot. Even in the post season. Um complete games are a rarity. As I said, the Giants are gonna miss Marco Gonzales Manners. He threw a complete game his last time out. So, yeah, I think with the especially with the added, you know, this was the year they were going to 26 men anyways in the roster, and they've expanded it because I think baseball realizes there wasn't enough time to get arms ready. We don't want to damage starters by pushing them too much. And if you Khun Group it together with a really, really good bullpen, the teams that have had that pick pen Padraig, you're a really good example of that. That's been a A bullpen has been terrific, too. The Giants are sorted out so that you know that 26 million Wall was one that was going in this year. The three batter minimum. I'm curious for a guy like you who's seen 40 games here. Which of the new rules, the ones that were gonna be in 2020, like the extra man on the roster and the three batter minimum. For the ones that they implemented because of the short schedule that the extra inning rule that no D H in the National League any of those rules that you liked or would consider keeping well rich. I know my listeners know, because I don't mind a seven inning doubleheaders. I don't mind that at all. I don't mind the three batter minimum. I just can't stand that runner on second base and extra innings. It just is stupid toe in the game of baseball. I don't like it. I hope they ship it right out for next year. I don't think it belongs in baseball. It's more of a softball thing. I coach softball for many years in high school, and it's great because the game is quicker. But in baseball ideas don't like it. What are your thoughts? Well, you know, I was first exposed to that rule in the World Baseball Classic, And that was because of the lack of just what you're seeing now. The lack of pitching and Like I'm pitching depth. I guess there's a better way to say the one thing that I've seen with that rule that I like. In the first two or three weeks of the season. We can't we're going through it in today's game. The modern day swing is obviously geared to hit the ball out of the ballpark. That's how teams are built. That's how offenses attack pictures. Um, and the runner on second to start the inning has forced teams slowly. I aim to change into Trying to move runners and do some little things and hit behind, you know, get a guy over get a guy in its forced managers to manage more than you see in the regular nine inning games these days. In terms of, you know, Do you intentionally walk here? Bunting is rare, but it's used every now and then, and obviously. Can hitters adjust? Can they push a runner to third? Can they get him in from third? Um and I've seen teams. I've seen teams really struggled with that in the first half of the season, But lately when I try to be an extra in a Margot Turn it. You'll get it on MLB dot TV Just to see how managers are approaching the smart managers like a Kevin Cash the guys that are really progressive like that, and you could see hitters it feels like You can see him start to adjust, and rather than three big hacks and a strikeout and not moving around her, at least trying to, you know, put the ball in play, or at least put in play on the right side, or or things like that. So that's To me. That's one of the may be that the one thing I like about Thie extra inning rule. Final thoughts Rich, you know, we're on a labor day and a couple hall of Famers have passed and I know you covered him and you've read about him. You follow them. Tom Seaver and Lou brought final thoughts today on both these gentlemen on and off the field in the Hall of Fame lost two great players. Well, when I was a kid growing up, Lou Lou Brock was also I always confused him. I was a kid. You know, you sometimes get confused. I did. I always computing with Lou Rawls because they floated that smooth voice. Lou Brock was, you know, I mean and Lou Brock Umm Was it was, uh, you know, you don't see those type of guys now with the stolen base, is not impressed with him was his Post career ambassadorship. In the game of baseball. Every time we would go into ST Louis when I was with the Mariners or with the Marlins. Lou Brock was usually there, and if it was a Hall of Fame weekend, he'd have the red coat on. He was always general. I just love those red coats. I think that's so close. He was beloved by everybody in that community. So I mean, I'm Ah Big Lou Brock Fan. Tom Fever. You know, I grew up a za fan watching him pitch and all of that, But I really got a chance to know more about my partner in Miami was Tommy Hutton. Peter In hut. I played in that same era and Tommy's, You know, 11 year career. He was a pinch it or part time guy. He absolutely owned Tom Seaver. I mean to the point where, when? When? When he would play against fever face fever. He beat, hitting third or fourth in the lineup. And I always remember when we would go into New York with the Mets or we were in the Bay Area and fever was around. He would be there was a fever would always come by T Say hi to Tommy. And there was a twinkle in his eye lights. You know you own me. You had you had it. And there are guys that you know that carry that as a grudge through their career that it's like I hate that boy is true. Here you put you put a happy face on you shake his hand and you're walking away, man. That guy only absolutely right. You know, once when I was around Tommy Hutton and we ran a deceiver here always made a point to come over and talk to Tommy with a little twinkle in his eye. And, you know, people in the Bay area in Napa certainly got to know him as well. He was just he lived up to that that nickname of Tom Terrific. He sure did. Well, rich Walt again. Thank you for your time on a labor day. It's always great talking baseball with you and you'd be safe and be well over the next couple of months. I know NFL starting for you soon, and it's always great time. I hope you're well and again, we'll talk again on KNBR The sports later. Well, say hi to Marty in wrapping everybody down there and good luck to the Giants. I'll be rooting for the next 23 weeks. Rich thanks again for your time and be safe on the Labor Day weekend. All right, I was Rich Waltz, the leader, sports leader. We're going to be right back on talking Baseball Bill Lasky and from artillery would write back talking baseball with Marty Laurie on KNBR 1045 and six e the spores..

"Once again happy Labor. Day, to all you lovely listeners out there I appreciate you guys tuning in today I know you listen to anything you want and you've chosen to check out the GSM. PODCAST so I certainly appreciate it. Hopefully, you're enjoying a nice weekend out there if you are at work. Thank you. Again, we appreciate you guys as well. So no matter where you are what you're doing I. I give you a shout out for listening to this podcast here today leave a five star review, Lisa rating all of the above we very much appreciate it but let's wrap up today's episode continuing around the League here looking at the Western divisions starting out in the American League, West, the Oakland Athletics continue to play great baseball they find themselves at. Twenty three and fourteen overall They have kind of jumped around Leeson Marie they've had some delays due to corona virus concerns there were a couple losses to the astros in there but to make up games than they lost two of three to the padres over the weekend and they find themselves ready to face off with the Astros here once again. So a very, very hectic week if you're the Oakland athletics but four with Houston, coming up for followed by four with Texas. So you got your Texas we coming up here if you're the Oakland A.'s. Offensively, Oakland continues to be led by a couple of individuals here. Matt Chapman having. Success Yeah he's only hitting two thirty two but he does have ten home runs twenty five rb is. Yes. Mandelson's only hitting one ninety five but he does have ten home runs twenty, six RBI's so not a lot of average happening out there in Oakland. But the power side of things offensively has been successful for them. The pitching side of things Chris. Bassett has been their most effective starter three seven to Yarra in thirty six innings. Then you have mike fires at a four, nine, three Ra Hayes useless Ardo at four to three. There are some nice options on the hill, but this statistics in the The record don't exactly line up and it just goes to show really how poor the bottom of this division is. That's really the difference when it comes to these guys because Oakland statistically should not be performing that well, and then you got the Houston Astros who were swept by the LA angels out in La in four games There is some turmoil going on down there. In Houston is continuing to try to find their footing there twenty one and nineteen. Next up they got five games in Oakland as one or two of these is a makeup game over the course of the next four days they got a double header on Tuesday then they go play the dodgers before heading back home to see Texas and Arizona Seattle? In Texas close things out so. The next week in Houston. Things could get interesting over the next seven days but following that the last two weeks things get much easier and stabilized for Houston. So if if things go south here over the next week in Houston, don't go crazy because there is a there's hope down the line when you're looking at the schedule but Michael Brantley continues to lead the team hitting. He's been out with an injury for some time. Now, Carlos Correa Hidden to ninety five in thirty, nine Games four home runs twenty two RBI's Kyle Tucker hitting two eighty, four with eight home runs and thirty seven rb. Is But the guy's been struggling really is George Springer to twenty nine, seven home runs. Twenty rb is he's working towards a big contract this off season. So things could be a little bit heavy for him at this point, but you would love to see George Springer kind of turn things on and figure out from starting pitching perspective. Zach rinky has been fantastic for them. He's been everything they wanted when they acquired him, he has a two nine one day in forty six innings. Lance mccullers Juniors has struggled forum framework Valdez though has been very solid three, six, one in fifty, two innings. On then on the back end of the bullpen, Ryan Presley continues to figure things out he struggled as first couple outings. But now he's up to seven saves Ziara is under four over thirteen innings. So shadow to Ryan as he started to figure things out. But Houston in second place. For three and a half games behind the Oakland athletics in the American League West and the rest of. You know the rest of the three teams under five hundred you got the Seattle Mariners who have won five in a row. They're now eighteen and twenty two up from thirteen in twenty two. So they are feeling good about themselves in Seattle, they're going to try to keep things rolling one more against. To against San Francisco three against Arizona I mean if you're going to get hot, now's the time to do it out in Seattle before you finish up with San Diego, Houston and Oakland. So you better take advantage of the next two weeks. 'cause you're closing stretch is very, very difficult. Almost the opposite of Houston like we just saw. So Seattle's going to have to win now if they want to try to get back into things here, Kyle Lewis continues to be excellent for them out in left field he sitting three fifteen, nine home runs twenty three rb is in thirty nine, Games Kyle. Seager forty games to eighty one, six runs twenty, eight Rbi's those guys are. Leading the way offensively. Then on the pitching side of things she got Marco Gonzales he's three zero ninety are a and forty three innings. Justin Sheffield four, three, four just in done four, zero nine. So the pitching seems to be letting people down out in Seattle and that's really the difference when it comes to a rebuilding team is you just don't have the arms where they need to compete. So it's been a slight struggle for the mariners, but nowhere near the struggle that it's been for the La Angels or the Texas Rangers of late but I mean the angels they have won five in a row they did sweep the Houston Astros there now seventeen and twenty five. Up From twelve and twenty, five and. Looking at their schedule, they could make some moves here I mean La, they may have to win out you're only playing sixty games. So the best they're going to be thirty, five, twenty five, but you got Texas Colorado Arizona Texas and then San Diego and La. So the last five or tough but outside of that maybe when all the other ones go thirty and thirty and there you go, you'd find yourself in playoff conversation. You're almost close to eliminate it at this point with twenty five losses in the American league it's Kinda fascinating to think about. Offensively though the main names continue to Chug along Mike Trout hitting to ninety five fifteen home runs thirty eight RBI's Anthony Ren Dome to Ninety two eight home runs twenty four RBI's on the pitching side of things Dylan Bundy two, four, nine era in fifty innings he continues to be excellent for them and then lastly in the American League West Texas Rangers stay of lost one, two, three, four, five in a row they're at thirteen and twenty six almost mathematically eliminated themselves. They got a tough stretch coming up against Oakland Houston and La all squeeze together. With each other here statistically offensively, who were they being led by? Let's see. Ronald Guzman is only played in ten games that doesn't count. So we'll go with Nick Zolak and seventy nine with a couple of home runs and some RBI's nothing really jumping out offensively they're on the mound lance. Lynn has been hit around a little bit in his last couple starts and he's got to six seventy ra in fifty seven innings pitched. So we'll see if he continues to. Run out of gas or what happens there in Texas I thought it was a mistake to hold onto him for sure there's no way his price is going to be as high next year. He's GonNa get you as much value with the performance he's been putting up. He's been outstanding this far. So looking over at the National League West, the current Bala. Ballgame, that's going on right now. Almost, eleven o'clock here Sunday night east coast time recording for you guys. We have the dodgers and rockies currently going at it. The dodgers are up one the nothing right now and they are in first place at thirty and eleven on the year they won one, two, three, four, five, six in a row before losing yesterday to the rockies and looking at. Their schedule here moving forward. They may find themselves winning in forty five games I. Don't think the realm of forty to forty five is out of the world of possibilities for La. If you're looking at it, I mean a lot with Colorado. Yes they have. Oakland San Diego and Houston coming up. But those other Games are certainly gettable for the dodgers sin. Offensively, it's their depth that is very impressive. I mean cody bellinger's starting to hit the ball. He's up to two twenty one. He does have ten home runs and twenty two RBI's smacks muncie still struggling to three does have ten home runs Jock Petersen hitting one eighty four. But then you got mookie Betts three, sixteen thirteen home runs thirty one rbi's he's in the MVP conversation as he continues to just be you know steady as she goes on the pitching side of things dust in May two, eighty Ra and forty innings Clayton kershaw again, the regular season he's been excellent.

Appreciate You guys listening in today if you haven't done so yet check us out on social media had the facebook check out the GMC podcast network as well as leave and Raider Review Wherever you're listening to this podcast whether it's apple podcast Google play spotify whatever it may be out there. Leave us a review rate is five stars we appreciate it certainly helps us continue to spread the word continue to grow here at the US, embassy podcast network but let's jump right in here segment number three we are looking at the central divisions across Major, League baseball starting. Now with the American league central the Chicago. White. SOX are tied with the Cleveland. Indians are no they're not. They're a half game up I miss read the standing. So your first place Chicago White Sox at twenty, six and fifteen I mean my surprise team in the American League for those of you guys listen back during the pandemic, the month of March the month of April I was all over Chicago team. I loved what they did in the off season and they've won Let's see here six of eight over the past week and looking at their schedule moving forward they do run into some difficult games here down the stretch specifically the closing stretch I mean next up at Pittsburgh in Detroit. Those should be a pretty good victories there but then four with Minnesota Three Cincinnati four with Cleveland three with the Chicago cubs is a nice closing two weeks there and really should we should find out who wins the division between them and Minnesota during that key stretch. But looking at the White Sox, they're having a couple of MVP candidates I. Mean we touched on last episode about Jose Braves odds continuing to climb after his record setting homerun weekend. But he is all the way up to hit and three fifteen now with thirteen home runs and forty RBI's in forty one games played. It's amazing that we've already played forty one games two thirds of the way through the Season Ladies and gentlemen you guys just started listening and here we are two thirds of the way through. That's why we play one hundred and sixty two because it goes. So Gosh, darn quick but Tim. Anderson at shortstop in thirty one games hitting three fifty one with seven home runs Eloy Jimenez Eleven home runs hitting to eighty one the weeks Robert out in Centerfield his average has come down. The power numbers are still there with eleven home runs and twenty seven harvey is but the to sixty six average is much lower than it was earlier in the year but this offense, in Chicago, a ton of fun to watch. The pitching staff has kind of come around and caught up to it I. mean nobody's really talking about it right now but Dallas Kaikal has been fantastic for the Chicago White Sox a two one nine. Fifty three innings this was a guy who two years ago couldn't get a contract couldn't find himself deal. Wanted big time money coming off his time with the Astros former CY young award Atlanta gives them approve it deal. He finds himself having a good solid second half of the season. Last year parlays that into a nice deal with the white sox and all he's done out is gone to one nine era in fifty three innings to go six into well, not to be outdone Lucas. G Alito. For and two with a three to ninety. Ra Dylan see sin forty aims five and two with a three to ninety. Are I mean those three at the top of the rotation there is good as. Most across Major League Baseball. Of course, you could find one, two, three, four. Are Better but this is clearly a playoff rotation. This is clearly a playoff offense and this is just I mean this team is a complete team. I. Look Forward to watching them continue to grow and continue to have playoff success this year. Now thought they were tied, but the Indians are a half game back of the white sox. And good baseball after winning four or five. They are also seven and three in their last ten. Coming up down the stretch here their schedule plays out a bit lighter with Kansas City, Detroit and Pittsburgh on their mixed in however with Minnesota, and the cubbies. So there are about fifty fifty coming down the stretch I do favor the Indians over the white SOx schedule if we're picking apples to apples here moving forward but the Indians offensively they continued to be led. By Fred Mill Radius Hidden Three fifteen and thirty nine games Francisco door hidden to eighty six home runs seventeen rb Cesar Hernandez hitting two seventy form Jose Ramirez into fifty three Carlos Santana got over the Mendoza line he's up to two Oh, three in forty games. So their offense you know doing everything, they can to try to keep them alive and win this division. The pitching staff Shade Bieber Merican League cy young favorite one to five era in fifty seven innings is seven Oh. That is outstanding. Ninety four strikeouts to fourteen walks that radio and radio. Oh, my God that ratios crazy. She's two point six war for Shane Bieber Next Dab you got errands volley three, six, three era in fifty two innings Carlos Carrasco three, four three or a and forty, two innings. So those top three against the white sox top three or going to be three great pitching matchups I mean honestly. I think I favor the depth of the white sox ever. So slightly against the Indians when it comes to those matchups, but those would be three ball games that I would certainly be interested in watching and tuning in for when it comes playoff time but. We are clearly getting three playoff teams in the American league central and similar last week I mean nothing's really changed in regards to WHO's making the playoffs and according to ESPN. If you're looking at it here, we have teams. Ninety, one, hundred, ninety, nine, ninety, nine, Ninety, eight, Ninety, eight, ninety, six..

"But let's talk now about the Philadelphia phillies nineteen and seventeen, they've been playing good baseball seven and three. In their last ten they have dumped two in a row to the New York mets. But before that they had one nine of ten their schedule gets a bit tricky here coming up because after two games or they have one more New York here and then to verse Boston but then seven Games in five days against the Miami Marlins. So when I talk to you guys on Thursday that'll be the beginning of that seven game series, which certainly could be make or break their and. I mean if that's it, that's that could be the playoffs if you're going with the MARLINS and you lose in five of seven, you're gonNA find yourself on the wrong in their here, very very quickly. But looking at some stats offensively Bryce Harper, he has cooled off but certainly stabilized himself hitting two seventy five. Only seven home runs twenty one rb is but his approach at the plate has been much better. Overall. I mean he's got thirty walks twenty seven strike outs. So more walks than strikeouts, which is fascinating because his strikeout numbers had continued decline year after year after year almost to the point where it was becoming an issue and I, it's certainly something he focused on this off season and has really cut down each changes stance with two strikes gets wider chokes up, tries to put the ball in play, and the is still got enough bath speed enough power to lift the ball to the ballpark and even with. The less whip and leverage that he likes to generate with a vicious swing. So certainly, not a disappointment in year to year one was right at expectations. So bryce Harper, very good for the Philadelphia phillies thus far JD's bad has cooled off. He's down to sixty still has nine home runs twenty, six RBI's but it's the depth of this vilis lineup that makes them very good I mean when you look at our be is having four guys five guys above twenty reese hoskins. Now at twenty, Rbi's Andrew mccutchen as twenty four, jt twenty-six dd Gregorious twenty-one Bryce Harper Twenty, one I mean that's up and down the line that's balanced. Seven home runs nine home runs five home runs eight home runs five home runs six home runs. Sad. These guys are just not an easy out up and down the lineup and that's what frustrates opposing pitchers because you want to exhale and you want an easy out and these bills just don't give it to you next. Up in the division, we have the seventeen and eighteen Miami marlins phillies at nineteen and seventeen or a game and a half ahead of them for a second place in playoff positioning Miami here let's see one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, three, and seven in their last ten as again. The rest of baseball has started to catch up with the MARLINS. They've been out play and their talent, but are they haven't? Lena then the Phillies Boston Washington and Elena again so A. Bunch of games left with the braves as opposed to the phillies who finished up with them last weekend. That's Kinda something Nice to look at their obviously the first place team. So you would think the marlins would have some trouble with them as a phillies fan and you're you're feeling good about being in second place. But offensively for the MARLINS, they continue to be led by the likes of Matt Joyce Hidden to seventy. Eight and twenty seven games she got hey zeus. Hidden. To seventy one, Jonathan Villar hidden to fifty nine. So good depth than some guys over achieving they're for. Marlins, ballclub that is fun to watch I will give him that six though Sanchez Bien called up he was obviously the key piece in the JT Rio Mutoko trade with phillies he's got electric stuff triple digits sits it's fun to watch him pitch. So young electric arms in Miami where the future could be a lot of fun for Marlins fans but. Fourth place here we got the New York mets and nineteen and twenty two. They have won four of five after a five game losing streak. So they have bounced back kind of stabilized the ship here they have one more against the phillies coming up, and then after that, they'll head to Baltimore and Toronto back to Philadelphia. So their schedule is a bit lighter here on the tail end as well. But DOES FINISH WITH ATLANTA TAMPA and Washington coming down the stretch, but it's the offense that's. Trying to get things going I, mean they got the likes of Michael Conforto hitting the cover off the ball hitting three forty two in forty one games so far this year Robinson Cano still hitting three thirty three Dominic Smith hitting three twenty seven Jeff McNeil to ninety one and then on the pitching side of things outside of Dot Com who won again today on Sunday over the phillies in his three and one with A. One six, nine ers array and an even smaller point eight, eight whip, which is fascinating. So anytime outside of him though it's tough to find W if you're the mets poor Selo spent a letdown. Matt's has been a letdown. It's just been struggling to find pitching for New York, and then in last place you've got the Washington nationals at fourteen and twenty five coming off their World Series Championship one, two, three, four, five, six. Seven eight game losing streak and have since one two out of three verse, Elena. But things are turning around and Washington anytime soon, you got Tampa Atlanta coming up then Tampa it's GonNa be a long summer enjoy your party and enjoy your parade from last year your piece of metal trophy as rob Manfred likes to call it and enjoy.

"On Labor Day? Twenty twenty the unofficial end this summer national football league is back next weekend even this Thursday and a couple of days we got game action for you guys coming on, which means we're coming down the stretch in major. League baseball I mean Labor. Day is kind of the unofficial last major marking poll in regards to Hey, where's my club at? Do here down the stretch. But now it is Canada halfway poll I mean look at it almost as July fourth to where we're at today but things are getting late here quick in regards to Major League Baseball as we are only three four weeks, not even from the end of the twenty twenty season and it's going to be gone in the blink of an eye just like that I mean we are up to over forty games played. Already for some teams, the Tampa Bay. Rays at twenty, eight and thirteen you're looking in one, thousand, nine games. You're looking at three weeks coming down the stretch for Tampa Bay that's where we're GONNA start. By the way we're going to start out do each division I like we typically do here on Sundays starting out in the east then the central, then the west kind of touching on where we're at for postseason play. Where we see things moving here. Going forward and started out in the American League East at the top the Tampa Bay rays continue to be extremely impressive. They've eight and two in their last ten, twenty, eight and thirteen overall that puts their playoff percentages at one hundred percent. So I don't know if they've mathematically clinched here, but it certainly seems that even if they were to lose the rest of their games at twenty, eight and thirty two, that's still may be a playoff team in the American. League with where we're looking at the standings but Tampa Bay still being led. Offensively by D. as he's hitting three Oh seven at third base, he's been excellent thus far you have low offensively leading them in home runs That's been the key one as well. Willie. Adams. Sitting three Oh two but brandon low his average all the way down to forty eight does have ten home runs and twenty eight rb is but I don't think that to forty eight average is going to be high enough to win the American League Mvp Award and we had him as the favourite on Wednesday night's episode Thursday's episode for you guys so. Those odds will probably change again this Wednesday I'll be interested in checking in again with you guys to see where we could win some cash but to forty eight for brandon low is not going to get it done. Next up on the pitching side of things tyler glass. Now he has a four, three, five era. He's been a bit disappointing as well as Blake Snell as been disappointing for these guys. He has three, seven, four era. Now you're thinking that's probably not too high, but for Blake's now and the expectations, he took another l. this past week in his last time out it's certainly not to the performance level that he's looking for in this year I mean three and one is good but again, he has high expectations three. Point seven, four era he himself would tell you that's not where he wants to be Ryan. Yarborough at three, six five has been solid for his expectations. Charlie Morton trying to find his groove work his way back. He's got a four eight, two era that curve curveball did look much better last time out that it did earlier in the year though that's for sure the surprise in the American League East? Though is certainly the second place team I mean you have the Toronto Blue Jays who have overtaken the new. York Yankees first second place and how has Toronto been able to do it? Well, let's look at their schedule just a little bit here. I mean things are going to get a little more interesting moving forward but the past couple of weeks facing the Red Sox, the Orioles, the Marlins, and the Red Sox who are not the most strong team I mean the Red Sox may be the worst team in all of baseball. The Orioles before the season were picked to be one of the worst teams in all of. Baseball same with the MARLINS yeah. The Orioles and Marlins haven't been playing that bad this year but they're also now world-beater. So things will pick up here for Toronto, over the next couple of weeks and we're GONNA find out now between the end of the year if they really are ready for prime time and they're a year ahead of plan and their a team that we need to be worried about because they get the Yankees for three. Then the mets for three the Yankees for three phillies for four Yankees for four. Then they finished with Baltimore. So Up until September twenty, four th here. So the next eighteen days for the Toronto Blue Jays are not the most advantageous when you're looking on paper in regards to these guys having a successful couple of weeks here. So the New York Yankees, they're open, the opposite can be true. I mean, they were stymied by Kramer and his Major League debut for the Orioles. He won five to one and they lost three of four to Baltimore. They are to in six in their last eight games after sweeping the new. York mets. So things have gone south quick in new. York as they continue to stumble in there all the way down to twenty one and nineteen now does this mean they're in jeopardy of missing the playoffs now it doesn't because they have a ninety two percent chance and even being over five hundred is certainly putting in the eighth spot. In regards to the playoffs in the American league but it's also now where the the Yankees wanted to be aware expectations are in New York..

"I've got ninety nine. It'd be is and i gotta get to a hundred. I need you on base to get two hundred dollars. The is and it turned out lou brock at ninety nine strikeouts and he didn't wanna strike out a hundred now we now ah guys strike out a hundred every year. Just shows you how much things have changed speaking of which i saw that the dodgers now what's the stat that he has pam was thrown around that they've scored fifteen plus runs in two games that don't have even two singles in it. Do i have that right like ah yeah they last night. Scored fifteen runs with no more than two singles so they always nineteen hundred oh you that. I don't think they did that another time but if they did who would be surprised. I heard this morning that they have eight guys with two home runs more in a game this year and i checked is that a record and the answer is no the yankees and the blue jays set the record already this your hey guys look interesting. This is not even record for this year and we've got seven more weeks ago. The dodgers were playing the marlins so you question if that counts or not tim can you help us understand something though as someone who knows baseball the way you do and real time evolution russians like this are super rare. Can you explain to me how we went one hundred years before baseball realized hey home runs are better well and you know again at the beginning how fast fact until babe ruth game along homeland where like no this is not a good thing. They're supposed to score another way other than hitting it over. A fence and route didn't just popularized the homerun made it an important part of the game but what's happened in you know this is as we found out how great it is to hit homers. We also played a game in a in a in a lesser way today to them. I think we ought all they care about is hitting home runs. Not everything that goes on in between the home run at ten. How did it happen so fast. Fast is what i'm saying. How did it turn this quickly in the last couple of years where it's borderline on watchable because everyone's just swinging for the fences i well dan i've. I don't think it's just two years. I think it's closer to five or ten and i think he could go back thirty years to the mid eighties when incaviglia you bo jackson corey neider jim christley they all came grab dear they all come into the big league name time all thirty overs l. struck out one hundred fifty times and from at that moment on i believe that was the start of the it's okay to say but the last few years right that's completely out of control and it's our our new young general managers basically trying to reinvent the wheel and say he can win out of the ballpark at strike out the other team sucks validity need that but again it's weighing when too many strike out and way too many homers timmy. Why do people keep saying the yankees. Especially in today's baseball two thousand nineteen were just discussing the law the yankees need pitching the yankees need pitching every time i turn i look at the standings and i see the yankees won eight of ten. They're eight hundred forty one right now a plus one sixty four and postseason is pretty random. Did they really need pitching and pitching seems to be good enough to me their top twelve in the league and your i well they could use another pitcher to start a postseason series 'cause eventually logically face burland or coal and grinky and they don't have anyone to match up with any of those three what these last years have taught us is you can win in other ways as long as you hit the ball fall out of the ballpark. You can win with a great bullpen. You can win with a ton of homers but it really really helped to have a starting pitcher even in an era where the starting pitcher is totally devalued. If you could throw three guys start a postseason series..
