Fresh "Los Angeles Rams" from The Rich Eisen Show
"Chimed in on Twitter after hurricane Ian made landfall about what 40, 30, 40 miles south of there. We're sending our best to all the water soaked and unfortunately destroyed communities on the West Coast of Florida. Tampa does not appear to be one. Certainly enough for the mayor of Tampa, Florida to tweet out Jane Caster on another note, we're doing our best to keep the Buccaneers game here Sunday. I have assured the NFL that the only disturbance here Sunday is when the bucks kick ass. That's what she tweeted out holding up a bucket of your flag with the chiefs slated to play Tampa on Sunday Night on NBC and the NFL apparently has heard from all the authorities, the relevant authorities down there and checked all the boxes and it has been announced that the game will, in fact, be played at Raymond James stadium as scheduled on Sunday Night. That's cool. As the bucks are currently practicing in South Florida and the dolphins facility is the dolphins are in Cincinnati tonight. So everybody kind of pitching in and pitching together and we're glad to hear that. And tip our caps and the authorities all over the state of Florida, helping people out and trying to bail them out and certainly get ready to take their minds off of things with a game in Tampa. Monday Night Football is going to be played in San Francisco or Santa Clara, where the rams and the niners play a huge game in week number four, game that can be heard on Westwood one Iowa will be sitting on the chair. The host chair of pre and halftime of that game on Westwood one is I do every single Monday night and thanks to our friends at Westwood one pitching in together. I bring you a Zoom chat I had yesterday with the rams quarterback. Joining me here now on the rich eisen show is the quarterback of the world champion Los Angeles Rams getting set to take on the forty-niners on Monday Night Football. Matthew Stafford, how are you doing Matthew? I'm doing good rich. How are you? I'm doing good. Are you getting used to that? Being referred to the world champion Los Angeles France? Not really, but I've started a new season. I feel like it changes everything for us. We just go back to just another team hunting for another one, but it was definitely a good run last year. Yeah, I'm sure it was. I am sure it was. And you know, I imagine a nice little wake-up call week number one, where you got to see right there in front of you, what it would take to repeat. I imagine, is that the way you guys took it. Yeah, it was a tough test. You know, obviously buffalo came and played really well. We didn't play up to our standards that there's no question about that, but it's a humbling game. You know, this game weekend and week out, you look at across the NFL right now, you see quote unquote, you know, top tier caliber teams losing every single week and the parody is at an all time high. So it's something that if you've been in this league for a long time, you understand, and it doesn't surprise you, you just have to go out there and prove it every single week really. Yeah, so what was that mini buy week like for you sitting on that game as you did for a week plus Matthew? Yeah, it was, you know, it's tough. Anytime you lose like that, you want to get back out there as soon as you can. But it was great for us to have some time to reflect. We were getting, you know, a bunch of guys back, you know, kind of later in training camp, but one thing about going and playing in the Super Bowl is all those injuries and surgeries and things like that. They happen a little bit later, so it's nice to have a couple extra days early on at the beginning of the season to get guys back. And it was nice to come out the next week and play a little bit better. Matthew Stafford here on the rich eisen show. So I'm curious the play where cup ran it in last week against Arizona. Was that the same play in the Super Bowl that you guys ran on fourth and short? I know it was to a different side of the field, but I'm just wondering, was that to play? No, it's not the exact same, but a similar type play, yes. And it had a little bit of a different feel to it. We run so many of those motions and just kind of pick and choose our spots to hand those off and we feel like we get an advantage and really the guys on the outside executed it really well. It was a great scheme on with a little bit of a different feel to it for the defense. You know, from our coaching staff and then obviously Cooper did a great job of executing and all I did was just run the 200 meter nice little slow curve and get in the front panel. You know, I asked him this prior to the home opener on Westwood one in the same spot that we're talking right here prior to your Monday night game and I asked him about that play because you had kind of given me a little bit of a heads up on it when you were on the NFL network set prior to the schedule release show when you were kind enough to be the guest to kick that all off and he gave me his perspective on how that play was born in almost never happened and then obviously got uncorked at the biggest moment of your lives and careers on a football field. Can you walk me through your perspective on that big fourth and short play? Yeah, I mean there was a lot of hours put into that play and you know some of them prettier than others. You know, there were some attempts in practice that didn't go our way. We're trying to figure out, hey, are we going to be on my cadence? Are we going to be on the silent cadence? Are we going to be this that and the other? And just trying to figure that out, time it out as well as we possibly could. Coupe and I spent a bunch of time talking about it and came to Shawn and we're like, hey we feel really confident that if you call this thing we'll be able to get the thing done and the timing and the feel of that play that we were able to get done really helped and obviously in a huge moment in the big game. Did McVeigh at one point say because a cup made it sound like McVeigh's like forget it. You guys aren't going to get it. Let's just take this out of the playbook and forget it. Did that happen? There's points in the week sometimes where he's like, hey, let's save this, shelve this for another time. We got enough, we got plenty of other good stuff. And that's part of being a great coach too is no one went to when the pair down and then when to trust your players and he's got a great feel for that and he was able to trust us on that one and it was one that he felt strongly about. We just needed to find out how we were going to execute it the right way to make it come to life and once we figured out how to execute it the best way it worked out for us. Yeah, and so what was it like from your perspective then for him to then after that whole place birth and then very, I guess choppy maturity to get that call in your headset, let's do that one at that moment. Yeah, I mean, I had a feeling it was going to be a short yardage call in the game. You know, I didn't know it was going to be fourth and one on our own, our own side of the 50 and in the final minutes, but it worked out. That's part of what makes him great. Is his ability to trust his gut in those situations and trust us players to go out there and execute it and we were able to get it done and it

"Arizona is doing some of the things they're getting their superstars healthy and they have a chance to clinch their first playoff person since 2015 if they're able to sweep the season series from the rams. And more or less secure the NFC west and focus on that number one overall seat in the conference. Yeah, there's no doubt about that. This goes a long way, because that first round buy is to me really massive this year. But Arizona has done a very good job navigating the injury situation and finding enough depth to overcome that. And so now that you come out of the buy and you are on the good side of the injuries with key components in Kyler and Hopkins, suddenly it's like, hey, let's make this push for the Super Bowl and ultimately you can kind of derail the rams here. And you want to keep pace, right? Like Tampa was able to win yesterday. And I just think getting Tampa Bay away from home is the way that you are potentially going to give them trouble. They're just a different animal at home. And you can kind of sense why. It's warm weather, get a lot of older guys on that roster. But I think it's crucial for a team like Arizona to have home field advantage. One last thing I wanted to ask you about and then we can kind of wrap things up around these parts for Arizona. Anomaly or something to worry about when you look at how dominant they've been away from home flirting with history in terms of margin of victory and dominant performances. But in their own building with one that we had talked about years ago being more out of the unheralded home field advantage just hasn't been there in three or 5 home games this year. They've scored 21 points or less and put forth some real duds even for what has been a tremendous season at least through their first 12 games. Yeah, I mean, if you could tell me why, then I'd tell you that there was some merit to it. I couldn't tell you, because you are spot on like three or four years ago. We were downgrading Arizona substantially when they hit the highway. They were a monster monster home team, not a very good road team. And now the inverse is happening and I couldn't necessarily tell you why. Maybe there's some complacency there when you look at some of the teams that they've played in their home building. But I don't know the reason for it. I'm going to blame the training table. Gotta be something going on in that pre game meal that's weighing everybody down. I mean, Kyler did look a little puffy when he was shelf for a couple weeks, not the body sham or anything around there. But now all kidding aside, we'll see if Arizona, biggest gain that they've had so far this season at home. The only other time we saw them on a stand-alone stage, they underwhelmed, losing outright to the Green Bay Packers coming up just a few yards short in that contest. So we'll see what they can put forth tonight. Anything else my friend that you would like to add before we take a little 72 hour break and come back, refreshed renewed with a positive outlook for NFL week 15. That is everything. We are good to go. All righty, I would encourage all of you our loyal listeners to follow pain on Twitter at pain inside or I'm Todd firm and you can follow me there. "Yeah, I think that sounds like the best path. And now it becomes a little bit more difficult because you're starting center Brian Allen is out and that is a substantial loss at an impact position. Alan's graded out the 5th best player on the rams offense. So in terms of preventing pressure, keeping Matthew Stafford clean. Being able to pinpoint pre snap wear pressure is going to come from because you do have some solid linebackers that are versatile for the cardinals that can come in blitz. That is substantial. Darrell Henderson appears to be out. And so I don't typically think running backs are a massive loss, but could be tonight. Sony Michelle filled in okay last week. But when you look on how you attack Arizona, you can get them in the ground game the 22nd EPA perusal out since week 8, and so they're trending downwards in that regard, and we know mcvay does like to have his run game go because he believes it's a massive component to the other things that they're going to do through the air. When you look at Arizona in totality second in EPA per play allowed, a lot of that is the ridiculousness transpiring. On third down. The Cardinals on third down defensively are out of this world and I think that's why it's even more important tonight for the rams ground game to be effective on early downs. But Arizona number one by a massive amount in third and fourth down efficiency. And the cardinals are only given up 3.2 yards per pass. On third down. So you're going to have to be able to protect Matthew Stafford this evening. I think you mentioned Woods being out. Let's see if OBJ now that he's a little bit healthier, a little bit more integrated into the offense if he continues to pick up a larger load now again. Against Jacksonville's defense without its best cover corner, he's going to look okay. But the guy who's really been impactful since the loss of Woods is van Jefferson, his roles increased since Woods went down, both the snap share and target share of increased in a big way over 22%. Target rate since Woods went down for van Jefferson, so he's going to now need to step up a little bit more as well. And if you can get that in OBJ returns to the form we think you can perform at things start to look a little bit better for this offense. I think the other interesting thing here is what Vance Joseph does. On Cooper cop, he had a very good strategy in the first game. And Byron Murphy was part of that, but they did some bracket coverage and they changed their style a little bit in the secondary and this matchup. So it'll be interesting to see what Vance comes out with for the second iteration of this. But Cooper Cup 5 catches for 64 yards on 13 targets in the first matchup. So those are some of the little intricate things to look for in this game. Again, I don't necessarily have a have a play on this one, so I'm a little indifferent. Other side of the ball, when you look at Arizona offensively against this rams defense, we know familiar foes will reacquaint themselves with one another specifically Jalen Ramsey and Deandre Hopkins, who know each other from their time in the AFC south. Kyler Murray puts together a good fantasy numbers last week accounting for four touchdowns against the bears, but really didn't have to do a whole heck of a lot. James Connor is obviously been a positive revelation for this Arizona Cardinals team. I mean, 14 touchdowns this season touchdowns in 6 straight. It's actually the longest streak for an Arizona cardinal since one of your proudest Florida state alums in an Bolden accomplished defeat back in 2008. The rams defensively paying the secondary has played well, but you haven't really had to attack the secondary early and often knowing that the run defense has been a little bit of a liability. It is. Let's start with where you let us in Deandre Hopkins and Jalen Ramsey. They faced each other ten times and head to head match ups as you mentioned there with the AFC south battles with Jacksonville and Houston. Jalen Ramsey speaks very highly of Deandre Hopkins. Always says it's one of the toughest matchups she's had. The numbers would indicate. Otherwise. And so right now, in the ten head to head match ups, Deandre Hopkins has been targeted 77 times Ramsay's only allowed 38 receptions for 462 yards. So Hopkins has only been able to catch 49% of his targets for about 6 yards of target on Ramsey. So I think the big thing here with the cardinal's offensive is they do have these other weapons now. So if Hopkins is removed, you have other guys that are fully capable of exploiting their matchups, and that is really been the problem with the rams defense is who else in the secondary steps up in a game like this if Jalen's removing Hopkins? Chase Edmonds looks like he is going to be up obviously had a huge role in the upset win against the rams earlier in the season. He was good, catching the balls out of the backfield. He was great in the run game. Let's also keep an eye on Justin Pugh. The rams are number one in pass rush win rate, so having a key cog back along the Arizona offensive line would be big. It is a calf injury. He's been limited all week. I don't know, they've really been conservative with their injuries because it's Super Bowl or bust for Arizona. So might not be a reason to throw him out there unless he's a 100% tonight. But what is interesting about this and why they ultimately went and got von Miller. Is because that's great that you're winning your one on one matchups. And as I alluded to, the rams are number one and pass rush win rate. But it's so bizarre. They don't create a ton of pressure as bizarre as that sounds. Rams are below average in pressure rate. They're 22nd. An actual pressure rate. 17th and adjusted sacrifice. That's got to change tonight. You got to get after Kyler Murray. You have to get after him the right way to contain him within the pocket. And if you don't contain him within the pocket, then it's a little bit of some trouble there. One interesting development and you start to read articles and listen to some pressors. And there's a guy that everyone's talked about this week Ernest Johnson, whether it's von Miller, whether it's Aaron Donald two guys that are obviously well respected. They've all talked about how impactful the linebacker earned Jones is tonight because of his versatility, his speed, his coverage ability. And that speed being a key component to possibly helping keep Kyle's legs contained. So let's look for that. He only played ten snaps in the first meeting. But everyone seems to be raving about his performance and how he's trending and his ability to roam sideline to sideline and keep Kyler in the pocket tonight. So that'll be something to look for here. Again, this is kind of a game for me that's troubling because this is your classic like pros versus chosen a stand-alone Monday Night Football game. And so every ounce of me says that the rams plus three are the right side and then you start to dig into some of these matchups and you don't necessarily love them. And so you get conflicted. And so ultimately, these are games that I just find myself in the sidelines for. Hey, there's some games that are out there that create great opportunities for me betting perspective and there's others that you kind of want to take a step back and observe even this late in the season as you try and identify who these football teams are. And when you look at the Arizona Cardinals, we know it's a group that hasn't been beloved by the betting markets, but somewhere along the way when you're ten and two and have the metrics that they're producing. It's not all smoke and mirrors. They're not the NFC equivalent of the Tennessee Titans whose net yards per place said there was inevitably going to be a regression..

"Bit, and then there's this like one B clump of three to four teams in the rams are still within that clump. But if they don't look the part tonight, and you're only positive effort over the last 5 weeks is at home against Jacksonville. That's a concern. And so in saying that, the most impactful bettors to this market did take three on the rams now. Late last night, a group that is somewhat newly formed out of Chicago did lay the cardinal's money line. I haven't done anything to this point, and I do know the total. It's very scary, but there has been some sharp money on the under at 52 and 51 and a half. Obviously 51 is a key, but we're kind of even trending a little bit potentially under that 51. When you look at both defenses that I think are getting a little bit disrespected in this matchup. So that's what I've seen at least from a price and informational standpoint. You mentioned the rams and this team being one that's relatively difficult to figure out. And I think part of the contributing factors there since beating the box back in week three, the rams are owned for this year against teams that have a record better than 500 and they've been dominated in those contests. They're point per game differential worse than two touchdowns. Now of course we have contests like the Tennessee Titans where the box score didn't suggest they should have lost that football game. But nonetheless, here we are. When you look at this rams offense, you talked a little bit about it. Matthew Stafford bounces back against Jacksonville, snapped his three game streak of throwing a pick 6, completed over 65% of his passes for the first time since week 8. The offensive line game protection he was sacked only once. And when you look at Stafford, he's been sacked 17 times this season, but 9 of them came during that rams three game losing streak. This offense, we talked about trying to figure out its identity. We know Cooper Cup grabs all the headlines, but Robert Woods did a lot of the dirty work. Sony Michelle gets on track running the football. When.

"Some of the reason we saw some game day steam there. And this one, and this is what I think the eagles are certainly a team that pro betters like a little bit more than odds makers. And then you compound that with some issues there at quarterback for Taylor hankey and then obviously the concussion with Terry mclaurin. Let's see if he's able to get cleared in time for this game. But you have a pretty analytically sound eagle's team with an entire week to prepare for an opponent that they are quite familiar with. I think four is probably the better number here than the two and a half was. Big game for Philadelphia, a chance to get to 500 and put themselves right in the thick of things as far as one of those final wild card positions. In the NFC, one of the bigger moves that you'll see this time of year taking place in Denver, you'll look ahead number had the bangles, a three point road favorite at FanDuel sportsbook. That number has now flipped the Broncos are out to a one and a half point favorite. Let's see if the bangles are able to establish their ground game here. That is really going to be an interesting battle when I look at the Bengals offense against the Broncos defense Vic Fangio has the secondary with Bryce Callahan returning this past week to match some of the parts that Cincinnati has in the past game. The Bengals run offense has not been as efficient recently as it was the beginning of the season, obviously Joe Mixon should be a little bit healthier this week was battling the flu bug last week. Denver has gotten healthier in their defense of front 7. They've gotten healthier along their offensive line. This is a huge game for both teams. But certainly quite the move here, four and a half points from Cincinnati minus three out to now Denver being the favorite and I'm not necessarily certain last week's performance. Going against a beaten and battered Lions team that didn't even have enough parts to feel the full unit. Is necessarily reason enough for this to move four and a half points. Yeah, market. Who knew that beating up on the Lions and despite only having a 1710 halftime Lee could have the market explode in your favor, but alas, here we are as we head towards week 15. And last, but certainly not least, the game that's obviously moved because of injury news, the packers. They were a two and a half point favorite on the look ahead number at the Baltimore Ravens. That number out to 6 and a half and I'll go one step further that if Lamar Jackson's officially ruled out 6 and a half may actually be a bargain buy if you want to get out of the head of the market. Yeah, this will certainly go above the 7 I would think if Lamar Jackson is officially announced out. And why this could become a little bit more difficult to navigate is the matchups. The reason we thought the best path to victory for Cleveland was to have Baker Mayfield throw on early downs in attack, was the issues the ravens are having in their secondary. Lots of guys beat up. So we knew Peter's was out earlier in the season, then Marlon Humphrey goes down, then Jimmy Smith was out last week as well. So your top three cover guys, let's monitor Jimmy Smith this week. But certainly the packers have the quarterback and the parts. To build a lead here and force Tyler Huntley as a thrower into a defense that is number two in pressure rate since week ten for the packers. In a defense that plays with 5 defensive backs most of the time on the field. So that becomes interesting. The one thing that we've discussed is the ravens, inability to get their ground game going, and that's really how you have to be efficient against the packers defense. That is the one area where they're not the best. So all of a sudden, you map out the game plan here in the matchup, it doesn't necessarily bold overly well for the ravens. Credit to the packers, sleepwalking through the first half, although they did take a haymaker from the bears, finding a way to rally in the second half, the defense rose to the occasion, and it was Green Bay, getting you to the window with a 45 30 victory despite taking professional money on Chicago. We'll see what the packers can run back with this weekend. Before though, we get to all of those tantalizing week 15 matchups. We do have one final crown jewel on the week 14 schedule and that of course is Monday Night Football. It'll take us out to the desert pane where it's the Arizona Cardinals, a two point home favorite as they'll welcome in the Los Angeles Rams total on this game sits at 51 at FanDuel sports book. And the Arizona Cardinals will enter a game against the rams as he favorite for the first time since 2016. The Cardinals, they've been good in the division this year for no against the spread. One each of those divisional games by 7 plus points. But the one thing we have seen up until the previous meeting between these two teams, the rams had one in dominate against Arizona winning 8 of the last 9. And it actually marked the first game of Sean mcvay didn't cover against Arizona. The Cardinals key to success in that first victory was a ground game where they ran The Rock for 216 yards. This is actually the most rushing yards that rams had given up on the ground since 2019. Arizona has been a great team away from home. They've been highly mediocre in their own building. I guess the most logical place to start and we break this game down before we get into the match would be with the number. The three that John talked about on Thursday that they hung didn't last all that long and we've seen the number kind of fluctuate from two to two and a half throughout the course of the betting life cycle on this particular price. I think when you look in terms of betters finding out where we can actually place the rams within the tier of our power ratings is important. Let's see what the rams are tonight. I think this just is a more meaningful game, obviously, all games down the stretch are important. But it just feels really important for the rams. They're confidence as a whole. Because right now, when I look at our power range, it's Tampa. By a pretty good bit, and then there's this like one B clump of three to four teams in the rams are still within that clump..

"Melvin Gordon added another four. If you look all told Derek Carr was pressured on 45% of his dropbacks, and most of it was natural. You mentioned spags and he does have this ability to create some very exotic blitz games and it's a very aggressive defense, but spags only sent blitz 18% of the time yesterday. Carr was under duress most of the day. He was throwing short. We've talked I think about Brian Edwards and zay Jones, not being able to win one on one all that often so the passing game becomes the short throws to run for. And certainly he compiled some stats and he's a great short route runner and gives guys trouble. But that can't be your only avenue of offense is throwing short to a great route runner and Renfro. Derek Carr had the lowest completed air yards of the week 2.3. The second lowest was Davis mills at 3.1. So that paints a picture on how short Derek Carr was throwing. So a lot of non threatening throws. And when you are down 35 to nothing, you would think, hey, let's push the ball down the field a little bit more. But the offensive line could not prevent pressure. And then they're just aren't these threats in the intermediate to deep windows. For the Raiders offense right now. So that's basically what transpired yesterday is. Yes, the chiefs were fantastic. Yes, they're motivated after some pre game. Tomfoolery from in gawkway and company on the chiefs logo. But ultimately, I think the Raiders offenses we've discussed this and we discussed it again on Thursdays. It's not very good right now. It doesn't have a lot of parts. Jon Gruden is not calling plays, so you've downgraded there, and you've downgraded talent wise. And so that's kind of what we're seeing from the Raiders offensively right now. Anything else that you wanted to hit out in a positive manner I have one or two things, but wanted to give you the floor to make sure that we didn't gloss over anything yet. The one thing I will say I mean, we talked we don't talk a ton about awards and that's not where I want to go with this discussion, but interesting to see how the potential for defensive player of the year race could shift a little bit. Miles Garrett we know is a one man wrecking crew, but every time I watch Micah Parsons out there, I continue to be blown away. I mean, what he did to disrupt that game against the Washington football team and helped the cowboys get out to a 27 nothing lead before they had to hang on for dear life on a closing line as he 6 and a half point favorite but the cowboys getting healthy on the defensive side. I think it's gonna make life that much easier for parson to continue to rack up big numbers over the final four weeks of the season. He's got 28 pressure since week 11. One in the NFL by a long mile. And I think we talked specifically about him in this game and just kind of the freak he was getting after the quarterback at Penn State. That was his best attribute was as a blitzer. And we've certainly been critical of Dan Coyne over the years, so it's always great when you can praise a guy and I think we give Dan Quinn some credit here for putting Parsons in position to win. The first time we saw Mike Parsons, think about this. In Dallas, was the Hall of Fame game where he is getting lost in coverage as a linebacker. Now Dan Quinn's done just a really, really good job moving him all around and putting him closer to the line of scrimmage and having him as a blitzer and you mentioned that early game changing play believe it was late in the first quarter where he causes a strip sack for touchdown 18 nothing, get out to a big lead and that's difficult for Washington's offense to try to come back in a situation like that. They're not built to come back from 18 behind. And if you look at that place specifically, Dan Quinn goes with a 5 man defensive line where Parsons is set up just left. I'm sorry, just right of the left end. And it's a crazy pressure situation. Now all of a sudden you have this situation where you have DeMarcus Lawrence, you have Randy Gregory and you have Micah Parsons that can all get after the quarterback. And I think that's going to change really the defense here for Dallas. They can get after the quarterback that's something that's very difficult to do and it just helps all the other components of your defense. And I think that's the interesting part is looking at the coverage as well. And I think that's one thing we outlined was shockingly we were not as high on the secondary early on in the season when a lot of the anomaly type stuff we knew couldn't continue with digs in the interceptions and the defensive scores and whatnot. But that was a unit that's held up pretty well. And I think, honestly, if you look at the cowboys in general right now, one of their units is trending well and the other one is not. I think a shock to most people. Yeah, defense definitely headed in the right direction the offense still very much operating in fits and spurts with a backfield that's banged up. We'll see what the cowboys bring forth with a favorable schedule at least for this coming Sunday before they'll wrap up within the division. So no doubt this Dallas Cowboys defense has been a lot better than advertised in recent weeks. With the good pain comes the bad and I know we've highlighted a couple of things that I had marked down initially talking about the bill slow start and the Cleveland brown second half offensive performance. So I wanted to know if there were things that stood out to you. Yeah, I think Cam Newton, right? That's one where you start to question why he was brought in and I think ultimately that could land Matt ruling hot water. We'll see if he's able to survive this season. But you just start to wonder what's going on there. I mean, benched again for PJ walker and initially it looks good. The opening script off the buy, you would expect to be pristine and it was and you get him moving with his legs and again, it looks good. It has the rushing touchdown has almost 50 yards. But as a decision maker as an accurate thrower, still continues to struggle, and you wonder, have you heard anything this week in terms of who's getting the start is going to be PJ walker? Is it going to be Cam Newton? Have not something definitely going to want to monitor, but I can tell you one thing..

"I do love the folks that can't be critical before a decision is made. And I tell people in our industry all the time. If you don't like a bet I'm making, don't wait till the game goes final because I've never lost a bet when I knew the final score and I had a chance to better game. Tell me beforehand why you don't like it, break down the X's and O's and I'll have a hell of a lot more respect for you. And I think a lot of these guys in the booth former players and whatnot, they can describe themselves as old school or whatever terminology you want to use. It's much easier to be a Monday morning quarterback than if you're gonna come out before a play and say, hey, I don't like this decision. Win or lose, but the reality of things is everything isn't going to be a 100% success rate. So don't tell me why something was wrong after the fact. Tell me why it was the wrong decision before, and it allows all of us to be better smarter and stronger for it going forward. Completely agree. I mean, I think that's kind of the day and age we're in. And listen at the end of the day, a lot of the beat writers are paid to ask these questions. It's what the fans want to know. They are also getting paid by the click. So. Tyler Huntley loses on the road isn't really much headlines. But all of a sudden if we can question the head coach and his decision making get a couple more clicks, probably a few more dollars in your pocket. That's the gist of this. Yeah, had no idea losing by two. If you missed the two point conversion with 7 minutes to go is different if you missed it with 35 seconds to go. But I can go on and on for this. For a long time, given what some of the folks out there will say when you play for a tie and everything else, which will lead us into one other game where I'll get you pick your brain on it in a few minutes. But all right, enough minor negativity here. Wanted to know what else stood out to you in a positive fashion over the course of what we've seen so far during week 14. The thing one of the things and I see it on your list here, but it's kind of been bugging me a little bit is Jimmy Garoppolo. I thought he performed pretty well. Again, yesterday. The perception of Jimmy G is always interesting to me. And I think if you could find some consistency there, people's thoughts on him would be drastically different ultimately that's on Kyle Shanahan. He's got to sort out the consistency issues with Jimmy G, figure out why some of the underwhelming performances are really, really horrific. And then I think both the performance could be leveled out and then the perception would be drastically different. But I had this conversation with San Francisco forty-niners beat writer and I just wanted to get his perception on Jimmy G earlier this week. And he wasn't overly hot on Jimmy G and then I sent him a nugget and he was just astounded. He's like, wow, that is nuts to me. But let me be candid. The reason the forty-niners took pro money this week and take a lot of pro money and respected by pro betters, it's the dichotomy between perception and reality for Jimmy G and I think the reality is if you look at something we do, which is emerging of quarterback dropback EPA and completion percentage above expectation. If you merge those two things together, Jimmy G right now is top 5 in the NFL this season. Only Kyler, Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady, teddy Bridgewater, and Stafford have been better. You're looking at Jimmy G right now, T 5 with Matthew Stafford. And it's bizarre because even some of the other metrics. If you look at ESPN's QBR model and I think it's improved and there's some things within that model that I do like and there's a lot of sophisticated sharp guys over there coming up with QBR, but somehow Jimmy junior earns a 39 QB R yesterday. Yet he's 11th in EPA per drop back in 7th in completion percentage above expectation. There's something going on here. People are having trouble quantifying what Jimmy G is. And some of them are even like the math guys. So it's really interesting, but professional betters are the reason that game went from forty-niners plus one and a half out to. I saw some even two and a half to a close. So that's just an interesting thing for me. I want to discuss with Jimmy G and I thought he was fantastic again yesterday now. A little bit easier task, kittle went nuts and you can attack Cincinnati's defense a little bit over the middle and certainly the ball bounced to forty-niners way early on in that game. Whether it was a key drop on third down from Jamar chase, which would have set up first in ten at the 49 or 30 as opposed to a punt in a pan and then you had the muffed punt. And then you know I would say a 50 50 call in the initial Jamar chase touched down where certainly the ball does hit the ground, but I think he's got some control there. Forty-niners got some brakes early, survived late and a lot of surviving late was because of Jimmy G? Yeah, I mean, you watch him weekend week out and I'm not sure there's a more polarizing quarterback out there that I'm sure maybe half the teams in the league would love to have under center. And I really would like to think there's going to be a big market for teams that feel they're a quarterback away that have the surrounding pieces there. The one thing my takeaway, though, from you laying out some of the top 5 EPA, I would not have had teddy Bridgewater up there. So I find that a little bit surprising. But he's done what's been asked of him and put the Denver Broncos in a position to control their own destiny as far as the AFC playoff picture. I know we've praised this unit again and I don't think we have to spend a lot of time on it, but the chiefs defense pain continues week in week out. It's now 6 straight weeks. They've held opponents to 17 points or less. In the first 6 drives of that game, they forced three punts and three raiders turnovers. They allowed their first points of the game when it was already 35, nothing. I mean, spags, it doesn't matter what pieces he has. Your thoughts and prayers were not to luxurious snee dealing with a family tragedy wasn't in the mix. Still this group did not miss a beat and will obviously see how far they've come on Thursday night when they travel out to SoFi Stadium to take on the Chargers. Yeah, that'll be a big game Thursday night. Some early money trending towards the chiefs will see ultimately what becomes the side there, but the defensive line, continuing to enforce their will, 18 pressures between Chris Jones and Frank Clark Melvin Gordon added another four. If you look all told Derek Carr was pressured on 45% of his dropbacks, and most of it was natural..

"Not the best blocker, but he certainly has the size and stature to be a decent one. The word is OBJ has some packages tonight, but not the full playbook yet. So just when you thought OBJ was a luxury, he's kind of become a necessity now at this point. But I still think I'd rather have Woods and Deshawn Jackson than OBJ, but we'll find out. I think or Ryan's has to go into tonight and you bracket Cooper Cup. You make van Jefferson and a guy that's been in the system three days beat you. And that's got to be the gameplay. We'll see if they can actually execute that. I'm sure the Raiders would consider trading Desean vet Jackson back to the rams if they needed a deep threat at this point. Would she doing? I'm not caught the ball. It's like a whirly dirty. Yeah. I've never been out there and had somebody try and take my lunch on a football field, but my feeling is that he got hit. He was a little bit disoriented and didn't know exactly where he was trying to gain his bearings because I figured he would have made a beeline for the end zone instead of kind of circling back and begin to run the wrong way before Rashad Fenton was able to knock the ball out of his hands. After you were done dissecting frogs, who was the guy that was trying to take your lunch in school? There was no gun, were you bullied? No. Absolutely not. I'm not this is safe space. No, it's a name. No, so there was nobody that there was nobody that bullied me. I mean, I always was an athlete relatively speaking, but I used to be the instigator. So if my buddies wanted to try and stir things up, they knew I could run my moth with the best of them. So they'd send me into a crowded chirp. They'd wait for somebody to try and get in my face and then they'd come in to kind of clean things up. That's what you get when you're a goal, you get defense when you get forward. Everybody comes to your defense if you want to run your app. I could actually see that happening. Does anyone call you a pipsqueak as a youth? Yeah, my dad. My dad calls me. Me and your dad are kind of in the same vibe on like 98% of things. Are you calling yourself a father figure pain when it comes to the bet the board corporate offices? It could be seen as such. It could be seen as such. Life at least underlying. The surface level stuff is you are certainly the more buttoned up human of the two. But that's just surface level. Motivator, investment adviser, pain insider. He checks every box you'd want somebody to do on their professional business card. Would you like to add anything else to your assessment of the rams in forty-niners? Should we discuss the number quickly before we call this podcast a wrap and take a 48 hour break from one another? So I will let the listeners do what they choose, but the number should be rams minus three -15 on a neutral. And so I think there are a lot of professional bettors. That will inevitably be on the forty-niners here. And they are waiting for a four. But if the four dozen pop they'll probably still value bet the three and a half? In general when we start to look at the schedule matrix and you circle spots weeks in advance. All of us were hoping and praying to pee down their leg last week because we would have had the forty-niners plus 6 in the spot. So you do lose some value because of that. But I think we will see if force pop, they might not necessarily last all that long, or they come extremely late. The rams continue to attract public money. And probably force the books to get there at some point. When you look at the market early this morning on a Monday, you see some of the sharpest shops out there turning to a soft three and a half. We'll see if books known to cater to recreational players can get to the four. And while it's rather cliche, we'll say it anyways. This is obviously the forty-niners season in the wake of their loss last week against Arizona. When here you go to Jacksonville, you have a chance to get to 500 with 7 games remaining in your aspirations of getting to the postseason at least remain alive. Lose this week, you go to three and 6. I think that's all she wrote for San Francisco. But in no way shape or form, do I want that to be conveyed as a reason to try and better game? If the numbers and matchups don't line up, you set it out. But as pain said, talking about where this number should be properly priced. You just have to try and figure out what home field advantage is. Actually worth in the Bay Area, given some of San Francisco's struggles..

"He's supposed to be the secondary guy. He's supposed to be the I don't know, like his secondary coach, right? Now he's a defensive coordinator. And so secondary is struggling. And you just start to wonder what's going on there. Because you think about some of the money spent in the draft capital to fix that secondary it's been good. The Patriots first drive, third and 8, third and 6th, third and 13. Those are get off the field downs. Those are hold to a field goal temp downs. Mac Jones. 16% above expectation yesterday. That was the best rate for week ten. Joe Woods was trying to prove a point late in that game, down 38, 70, he kept his starters out there. And you hate to say this, but I think the browns defensive players quit. And you mentioned Brian horror, marches down, 95 yards on 6 plays. Ugly scene for us. I know we had a good number under 45 and a half in that game. So you weren't really expecting that. Probably deserve better in that game on the total anyways, right, Baker Mayfield on an interception sets up a 5 yard touchdown drive, you get a fourth and 19 midfield go for it late. That was a weird one. Chargers, I don't think there's anybody that identified the issue before us. You honestly, you get full credit. You called for this well, when things were running well, and everyone was ready to anoint Brandon staley, Joe Lombardi and his chargers offense, the greatest thing on the West Coast, since Sean mcvay took over the rams. He said, I'm not quite so sure everyone should be this excited. And over the last couple of weeks, the regression monster has bitten them on the ass multiple times. Through ten weeks right now, we are. Joel Lombardi hasn't adjusted his offense to Justin Herbert skill set. It's like he still thinks he's in New Orleans with Drew Brees. Yesterday against a Viking secondary. That was down two starters. A defense that was down three starters along the defensive line. He devised a game plan where Herbert's average intended pass was 5.7 yards. The offense constantly throws short of the sticks. The receivers are Keenan Allen and Mike Williams. Neither of those guys are run after the catch receivers. So you can't incessantly throw short of the sticks as well. The Chargers did. Herbert's completion percentage because of it. 12% below expectation. And I get it to your one. Herbert's learning a new system, more has been put on his plate. Not every player is going to match the scheme you want to run because it is your first year there, and you haven't gotten all the parts that you want? But you are in a position to be in first place in the division. You have to be a head coach. Your garnering coach of the year talk brand staley and Joe Lombardi have to be better. They have to mold their systems to the players they currently have. And that's not happening right now. No, they're going to have to be better this weekend too. An interesting gain that's what goes a long way not only in the division as Kansas City now has moved in to first place, but also as far as the AFC pecking order is concerned. Suddenly, the Chargers and steelers could be two teams vying for that bottom half of the AFC postseason birth and a tie breaking win one way or another will go a long, long way. Steelers. Let's give credit to the lines. Like baby steps, you know, you're on the road as an underdog, dome team and weather. We know golf has small hands. So his history and poor weather conditions is not very good. To me, you saw the fatigue factor. I mean, the Lions were off their bi. They're hungry, the Steelers just had the battle late Monday night. The league did the Steelers no scheduling favors this week in terms of rest and prep. The Lions also got healthier along the offensive line. And that is a unit that is by far and away Detroit's best and when healthy, the lines offensive line can be one of the better in the NFL. They've spent some money in draft capital there, you know? But I've been saying this just about any time we've broken down the Steelers. The defensive line isn't what it once was. You can't let javon hargrave walk. You can't let butt to pre walk. You can't have to it on IR and think you're going to be the same defense up front. The secondary couldn't afford two key contributors, they let guys like Hilton walk. So pass Joe Hayden in Fitzpatrick. There's not much there. And Fitzpatrick really isn't willing as I alluded to to be like the most versatile guy. So safety is one of the most valued positions in the NFL, and suddenly you've got a guy sitting back. And Joe Hayden is good as he is. He's 32. So there are some serious holes on this defense coming into the week. The Steelers were 19th in defense of Russia efficiency on first down. The rest advantage for the lines. The O line getting healthier for the Lions. And that being Detroit spec unit against the defense, it's been pushed around up front and first downs, you can kind of see how that transpired. But to your point, Jared Goff wasn't a threat to throw it. There aren't really great receivers. Let's load the box and force some things. I do think right when you have those weather conditions and you're a defensive guy trying to hold up at the point of attack, the offensive line might have a little bit of an advantage there. That probably played a role as well. But all in all, there's a lot of factors on why the Steelers defensive front wasn't the best against the run yesterday. And I'm not going to allow the Steelers offense to skate either. I know mason Rudolph is out there. You weren't sure what to expect. A nice opening drive to go up 7, nothing. But you also can have a veteran receiver who's supposed to be your number one and Deontay Johnson fumble the football and over time when you're in plus territory, pat fryer moved coughed one up as well along the sidelines. One thing I will say though, and it's a friendly reminder, all of you are loyal listeners. If you guys haven't subscribed to the bet the board newsletter, you'd have been sitting pretty with a Jared Goff under two 50 and a half passing yardage ticket that you'd never had a sweat from start to finish as a partial position. So a reminder that there are plenty of ways to get bet the board content. Not only are podcasts on Monday, Wednesdays and Fridays, but the articles that were there that highlighted the Detroit Lions is a market move. And of course, the newsletter that gave out the golf prop under passing yards as well. Anything else pain that stood out to you in a negative manner before we decide to eviscerate a potential starting quarterback in Denver as my loan consideration for the ugly category this week? Nope, I will let you lead that charge. You actually texted me and I had to go back and watch it. In real time I wasn't quite sure what transpired at the end of the third quarter when Darius slay picked up a fumble on fourth and short, was dancing around the effort from Denver. I thought the play had been whistled dead. And there's Darius slay dancing down the sidelines and you send me a text and I'm paraphrasing here, I believe it. Well, teddy's not gonna like the way that looks on film. And I'm thinking to myself, what the hell is pain talking about? Teddy didn't do anything there. It was a fumble from the running back. Philadelphia, ice is the game going up 27, 13 and it's all she wrote, well I went back, watch that play. Teddy decided to make a career move, and a body preservation play when it came to not doing anything to try and slow down Darius slay as he's racing through that Denver offense to the House for an 82 yard scoop and score. I'm convinced teddy Bridgewater all he had to do was lean over, and he could at least redirected Darius slay off his path..

"Yeah nobody. Nobody was stepping up. Nobody is making big. Plays now godwin and evans in gronk made a few good. Plays a really other than you know. Tom brady played well. I thought our leading rusher running quarterback y'all in that's going into this game. It's what i said. I said if we can get leonard fournette going around. Joe's i don't care who was. I just thought for net would be better than we would probably dominate this game. But y- just a pain in the ruins so quick thirty five yards. Total read scene and fourteen dollars. Tom brady yeah. And i think they had. Four net and jones both had like two yard average per carry. Everyone except tom brady. Yes so it it was. It was not a pretty game but it. We didn't get our butts warped. I don't feel like it was the d. It was more us shoot ourselves in the foot. If we were brought our game would one that. Yeah i it's exactly that we didn't bring our a game we were not in. I don't know if we weren't interested in this game or just figure the stakes weren't that high. Well you know we have to try. We had to travel all the way to the west coast. And you know it's loud stadium and You know we got some injuries and well and then you have to wonder. It's tom brady looking past this game to next week where we got a new england game and is a big game. So you're like. Was this half effort yet. I i would have to say we definitely did not take this game as serious as they did as a big. This is probably the biggest game on their schedule now. I think it's the biggest game in our schedule to as far as competition is concerned would i don't think they were like the. This is a long. So he's ever not is not an accurate measurer of where you are team. The week thirteen is week sixteen. Yes yeah and we're to in one. Yeah we're fun agape believe carolina's top. I was just say the worst part of this whole thing as leading the division but again he wants to blow their wad and week three the carolina panthers do. Apparently i mean they're leading the league in defensive stats like across the board. They're just killing it. you know. so but we'll we'll see i. I don't think they're near that good now especially defense of their opponents. Yes and they played the saints..

"Horrible horrible horrible feeling yesterday and it was funny. 'cause we're sitting there is probably about halfway through the fourth quarter and we went. Wow how we forgot what this felt. I know dogmas bio friend. It was a very very strange feeling. Like i don't like it. I don't you know though. The intro is a little bit wrong. We did have a goal to go seventeen and how that jury was shattered. I guess better it shatter now than you know. Nine games in right or in the playoffs yet. You know it's too to the rams. This was a playoff game to us this week. Three it wasn't they were so much more On fire so coach mcveigh was just running up and down the field. Every time they made good play he was like acting like they were winning the super bowl. You know in you know to the it was i know. They has celebrities up in the boxes. The whole olga. Shasta ted lhasa. Was there You had musician and actors. Everybody was there for the game. Just imagine blowing your wine on week. Three cases is the pinnacle of what they're going to be. This is it. We'll see we'll say i. They played a good game. I thought they were much more physical than us and Dude quarterback he's the real deal he said he was slinging it out. There is making good decisions and good accuracy and everything. But that's we got a lot of talk about in his game. We'll talk about before we do that. Though i wanna get to something extremely important gay stats get this out of the way it was. Yeah can get us out of the way so we can start grousing about this performance on sunday. Gay stats are boy. Carl massive used to be the defensive end right. He was a defensive end. Was here here before cave. Your one year. "Interceptions. Cause that's Justin Herbert's numbers. Those are Justin heard his numbers from 1 to 2 Towns, interceptions 31 to 10. No, he's not if he if he doesn't start until week, 10 he's not getting the 31. Okay, fine. Take out the week 10 part If he starts week. Hold on. You think I'm doing this willy nilly? I thought about the week 10 part. Go look at their schedule. No, I no. Listen to this. Okay. Say they lose their. They're the underdog this weekend. Lose the ramps. They're going to be favored against since now you're one and one You make a switch. I won in one. You don't do that. Okay. So week three. You lose the Cleveland. All right, Then you get the lion's so even if it's a terrible game against the Browns, you get a game where Andy Dalton could possibly look decent against alliance. You're tuned to it face off against the Raiders on the road. You win that game. You're three and two. Get the Packers. You're back to 500. Then you face off against the bucks under 500 San Francisco up in the air. They could maybe have quarterback issues it too. But like you're looking at San Francisco, Pittsburgh in weeks. 89 why? Week week 10. The 10th game is Baltimore. Week. 10. The bye week is weak 10. I thought about it. I didn't just give you a random number. There is a possibility of this offense is somewhat decent. They refused to go to the kid, and they play Dalton all the way to the bye week. Well, then, no, He hasn't played enough games, the one rookie of the year because he's not showing up. He's not putting up the stats that a Trevor Lawrence is putting up that exact Wilson might be putting up. Mac drones might be putting up. How likely is it that we we get to that point that he doesn't start till then? No, no no 0% 10% 10% 10% Not quite. Aaron Rodgers returning to the Packers 10% 10%. Alright, final storyline We get to the end at the end of the NFL season look back, say The black at this, right? How likely is this to take place? Matthew Stafford is a top 10 quarterback. And the Los Angeles Rams are the Super Bowl champs. Mm. How likely is it? How likely It's 75 80%. I think he's going to be a top 10 quarterback. That part, I think wish on McVeigh with this defense, keeping them keeping them in games. Obviously, with this offensive line protecting with the weapons he's got I think that Matthew Stafford can be a top 10 quarterbacks. Statistically, he usually is in that range, right. When you think top 10 quarterbacks in the league, Stafford's usually around that number 10 number nine stats. Exactly. So to me, he's going to be their top 10 regard. That's that's 100%, okay? But in the Super Bowl best defense in the NFL. Yeah. I mean, I don't see why not like. Think about watching Rams games in the last couple of years. They're on. They're in the playoffs against Seattle in Jared Goff can do anything. They somehow managed to win that football game right and then to advance Yeah. 70% 75%. All right, 75%. There you go. The top story lines at the end of the season when we look back, how likely will they take place? That's why I came up with, I think I mean, listen. When we talked to the Fat Jack, he said that if you can get in on the Rams now to win the Super Bowl, that's the formula he likes where you have the new quarterback coming to an established coach with a really good defense like we saw last year with the with the Bucks. So if you look at that, that's the Rams this year. The Rams have decent odds where you could take a you know a flyer on them to win the Super Bowl. And you're still I think they're like 10 or 12 to 1. Something like that. So yeah, Why not? We have a White Sox report again coming up. Next, you're listening to Black and Abdullah,.

"Lateral agility. You need to be able to change directions and get behind your pads and explode downhill and this is one where you. I honestly don't know if he's going to be able to come back from that and be the same type of player. We talked before about how daryl henderson could have a good season like. He had five touchdowns last year. He's not a chump but outside of him. You know like you said they really don't have too much end it entirely possible that the rams number two running back might not be on their roster right now. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see them. Watching the waiver wire like a hawk as young as cuts come out during kampen than file cut downs. They could put a waiver claim on just about every running back teams that are deep at the physician. Let go and honestly if you think about it. They could go and pursue whichever texans running back. It's cut because right now they have way too many guys. Maybe philip linzie ends up being that secondary guy. They are going to need to bring in somebody because i am just looking at on paper. I don't know how you can be confident. Rolling with any of those backups. In one of the being the secondary one maybe maybe jake funk's shows some stuff the rookie out maryland. But i i would not be super optimistic with the rest of those guys on the roster daryl henderson you could probably roll with. But they're they're going to need to bring somebody in as you said chris so to wrap up today's show as we always. Do we like to pitch. What we think is the best and worst case for these teams when we discuss them and that helps paint the picture. For what the giants are going to be dealing with when they take on these teams now. If you remember last year the giants played the rams very closely. I think a lot of people assumed that they were going to get demolished by the rams but they played a very good football game when they played los angeles and now this upcoming year based on the moves that were happened and then changes that were made. I think losing camakers does impact the projection. It's not a surefire. As some people were saying guarantee for them to win the division or at least make the playoffs with matthew staffer. Now at the helm that is going to hurt them. But best case daryl henderson has a good year they still win the division and they go to the playoffs. Worst case for me. Chris i see them still just missing the wildcard and maybe having like a middling slightly above five hundred record and just missing out on the chance of the playoffs simply because as we've seen under. Sean mcveigh the years that they've not made the playoffs. The of at least been highly competitive when you have elite defensive players aaron donald and jalen ramsey and also matthew stafford running things. You're going to be competitive. You're going to knock off the teams in your division. Get a couple of wins here and there you're probably going to dominate the bad teams on your schedule and you might shock some of the really good teams on your schedule. But if things don't go well and they're struggling at the very least they're going to be slightly above five hundred. Yeah like i said kind of at the top of the show. I really think the rams season will come down to how matt stafford performance as their starting quarterback i. This is a quarterback driven league Decades said all the time. But it's completely true. I think if matt stafford can allow sean mcvay to unlock his playbook. The rams could be very dangerous. Yeah i could see them battling with a either the forty niners or the seahawks to win this division. But if things don't click or don't click right away. Maybe they've Wind up in a whole start the season. Yeah there's a few too many bumps in the road. I think they'll probably be fighting for maybe third in the division. But i'm right there with you. I think they could win this division or they could be a team that just misses out on a wildcard but also play spoiler for a lot of other teams and they are well. Coached with sean mcvay. They've got a good quarterback with matt stafford. They've got great defensive players in aaron donald and jalen ramsey so i think that really does make them a team to be respected where you cannot take this team lightly. No you cannot take this team lightly at all for of those reasons. I think we both mentioned here. They are just too competitive of a roster to say oh well if they struggle and certain things don't work out there going to be a bad team will be picking in the top ten. It's just not gonna happen sean. Mcveigh's do good of head coach. They've got too much elite talent at important positions for them to not at the very least be sitting at nine. Eight worst-case eight nine like absolute. Worst case eight nine they have. They have too much to too much talent. But like you said though. I don't even a remote possibility. I think that this rams team is gonna come anywhere near that. They're probably going to be in close competition for some type of a playoff spot to try and make it to the nfl next year because of the big change of going and getting matthew stafford. Yeah i think if the rams come in five hundred they had a couple of losses and it just this division with the seahawks still being good. The forty niners getting healthy. The cardinals now hoping to take that leap as murray enters his third year. They've added to their offensive line to get another whole year with new caulkins. Maybe they take a jump and this this division just beats at self op. i think. That's how the rams finished below five hundred. Yeah and you you hit some maybe significant injuries. Along the way where they have less depth could could lead to something along those lines which you could say that about any team but in this circumstance. That's probably what they would need for that to happen. Folks that's going to be it from us on today's episode. Thank you for tuning in to hit the subscribe button. Leave us a five star review if you enjoy listening. We're getting close to the nfl season so make.

"Chris the first two names that the rams lost during the free agent period are not necessarily big star names however they are underrated key. Contributors who are now playing for different franchises. i'm referring to michael. Brokers who has been a robin to aaron donald and has been productive in that secondary role on the defensive line as well as samson obuke edge. Rusher who not necessarily a high productive sack guy. But somebody who gets to the quarterback who can pressure opposing quarterbacks and you lose him your only real notable player in that group that i can really point to is leonard. Floyd who's a good pass rusher very very good pass rusher but you lose anybody like samson that is going to be regression on your roster so those two guys underrated players losing. Both of them is going to hurt this rams roster yeah and i would say probably michael brokers in particular with aaron donald on the roster. You don't have to worry too too much about your pass. Rush a aaron. Donald is just built different from everyone else. He's he gets double teamed more than anyone else in the league mid even more than any two players in the league put together and he still has a ridiculously high win rate pressure rate. He racks of sack is just absolutely disruptive your brokers he is really good at holding the point of attack. He can't be disruptive. Behind the line of scrimmage. I think that is a big reason why they went in drafted bobby brown just to have that physical presence that that guy who can clog up the interior next aaron donald while he does his thing in the backfield the interesting loss. I think will be the defensive coordinator brandon staley just because they've got jalen ramsey. They've got aaron donald. So they're going to have guys on defense who offense is absolutely need to be aware of who really can scare offenses. But it's the other nine guys on the field. How how do they play What will the scheme look like Will they be able to get all the same matchups get put in the right positions. The way staley was able to do so your brandon. Staley is one of the most underrated defensive coordinators. And i don't know if his name was really being brought up enough until he took that chargers head coaching job. There's a ton of people out there including myself who think that the chargers this year are going to have a huge season. Now that staley is going to be taking over brandon. Staley is a very very good defensive coordinator and you can point to. Yes the success of that defense in reason why they were so successful being because they have to elite players at their position and jalen ramsey and aaron donald but i also point to the man who was maneuvering and pulling the strings behind the scenes. That made them so dominant now. I don't know if that's something that you can just easily transition out of any time that you lose a coordinator of eight top ranked unit. It is always going to be tough to replace that. I am not saying it is going to be a massive drop off but frankly there is going to be some bumps early in the season. It's going to take time to get things rolling with a new guy at the helm. Yeah absolutely like just imagine what the giants defense would look like. If a patrick graham took a head coaching job your we just don't know how ready the next guy up is to step in and continue what was built by that really good previous coordinator Granted the rams went from wade phillips to staley. And yeah. that's pretty good. So maybe sean mcveigh's is good at identifying ability and talent potential in his assistance as he is in designing offense. But we don't know for sure. And that i think is something it's going to have to people are going to have to be aware of when forecasting the rams. Yeah and we've seen success from this. Coaching tree under mcveigh. Now it's not always been consistent. And there's a reason why so many people hunt down these coordinators or even positional coaches like Like zack taylor. Who's the bengals head coach. You know there's a reason why people come after these guys and alex rollins from just a quick search is supposed to be the next guy stepping up. Hopefully he can take things over for the rams for the giants sakes sake when they play him in week. Six they're still struggling to figure some stuff out. But i'm sure that it'll be a somewhat seamless transition but there are definitely going to be some struggles in the first half of the year before they they really can figure themselves out and chris the last regression that is so notable that has to be talked about is the loss of running back cam anchor acres tore his achilles during the off season while training completely done for the year. We all know that that is an injury that is so hard to recover from one hundred percent and he was expected. Many believed would be dominant running back in the nfl for a team. That has run the ball so successfully in drafted him to be the successor in the replacement of todd gurley and he really started to come on towards the end of last year they lose acres. They also lost malcolm brown during the offseason who was essentially his secondary punch. Now they do. Have daryl henderson who has shown us some glimpses of what he is capable of. But i look at the rest of this group. After henderson xavier jones raymond colinas and then jake funk are the next names at that running back spot so there might be some troubles running the football with no camakers. Yes certainly an. You'd never want to hear about injuries at all. But especially when kaiser working out inbetween mini camp and training camp yet. They're working hard to come into camp in shape and up their game and it just sucks to seen injury like this especially something like a torn achilles which is a. It's a career changing injury especially for a position like running back where you.

"I don't even know if to how well is going to get into the rotation until his playing weight is up to a metric where the rams can be comfortable because the one forty nine that he was rumored to be at when he weighed in at the combine is just far too light to play on an nfl field. They might almost redshirt him especially considering how relatively deep their receiver group is. They probably don't necessarily need to get him on the field for a ton of reps. I don't even know the chris. If i can really say that. Their draft was an improvement because like their first hire picks they have ernest jones linebacker from south carolina. Robert rochelle the corner from central arkansas. And then bobby. Brown defensive tackle from texas am and the rest of their picks are even more black than the ones i just named. There's really a guy that they drafted that. I can really point to and say wow they really upgraded out of position of need. They still need a lot of help. At the linebacker position because frankly troy reader who i played against when he was a defensive end is not really a starting. Nfl middle linebacker. That you want to be putting out there so this draft for me does not really do it. Yeah ernest jones. Their second pick third round fortieth over pick forty is. He's not a super athletic linebacker. He's smart he comes downhill heart but yet not debt Range middle linebacker teams seem to be looking for these days. Like you said they're they're draft is okay with what they got bobby round. He is a big boy now. Six four three twenty thirty four inch arms that is definitely a contrast to aaron donald. But you know the. They already have good players on their defense. They've got a reasonably talented offense so they didn't have to go out and have a home run draft. They basically just need to keep back filling their depth chart and if not radically improved physicians physicians. So we're talking about these improvements. I think the bigger cause of concern for the rams is the regressions that they had over the offseason. One being a notable one that made significant headlines over the past few days. We're going to get to those regressions coming up very soon. Thanks to t mobile for supporting this episode and for keeping baseball.

"During these twenty twenty one season. We've done all of the nfc east teams who've done a few other non inter divisional matchups for the giants. And now we move on to week six which is a matchup against the loss angeles. Rams and this is a team. Chris that really shocked the nfl world by making a major move at the quarterback position anytime that you make a trade to upgrade or change your quarterback situation. It is going to be the talk of the off season. The rams major major improvement and maybe the only real improvement that we can point to because they're hamstrung by their cap situation couldn't really go out and sign many big name free agents they brought in matthew stafford and swapped out jared goff now. There is a debate that will continue to circulate until about the end of the season. When we can confidently say who won that trade on if moving on from jared goff is an upgrade and if bringing in matthew stafford is going to correct some of the offense of issues we saw from this rams team last year and also over the past few years with inconsistencies from gough but overall you bring in a guy who said a multitude of four thousand yard seasons multiple high passing touchdown seasons has been productive despite his circumstance of being on a pretty bad roster most of his career. Matthew stafford is is going to be a very very good starting quarterback for this rams team. Yeah matt matt stafford has been. I think one of the more underappreciated quarterbacks in the nfl over the last few years his career got off to a rough start you with all those injury concerns and you know frankly. The lions just not being good when he was a rookie. A young player but stafford has grown into a quarterback. I think you can win. Because of your. There's really three types of quarterbacks in the nfl guys who just do not be starting guys. You can win width. And then guys you can win. Because of and stafford over last few years has been that quarterback you can win because of he has one of the best arms in the nfl his ability to make throws from just weird arm angles to be able to attack all areas of the field with solid. Accuracy is really just rare. You don't see too many quarterbacks. Even with guys like patrick mahomes in kyle murray coming out of college nowadays yet having a quarterback with an arm leg matt stafford is not common and he knows what to do with it. He generally makes pretty good decisions. He generally plays the ball pretty well and that i think really does. That is where jared goff has been lacking. he is really more quarterback. You could win with. He doesn't have the arm strength to attack all areas of the field. The way stafford can a he was prone to just say some questionable decision making at times. And i think you said that the stafford could be the one big upgrade rams have made and i really do think that the way they're the season goes will depend on how matt stafford in. Sean mcveigh work together. And stafford is going to be a big big focus. Point four this rams team during the whole season for a lot of the rams are for a lot of the reasons that you mentioned chris. Because they were having issues with jared goff. There were games where they lost because of some mistakes from coffee struggled. Obviously he did have some success he did have some big performances but there were a lot of times where you're really were questioning yourself. Was this worthy of a first overall. Pick and now you bring him out these stafford who is ready to prove himself. Being away from a franchise that has overall pretty much held him back most of his career. He did have some playoff appearances. Have calvin johnson lean on for a period of time albeit not a super long period of time or as long as many people would have hoped but stafford now has to use this opportunity to the best of his ability. They they have a decent quality. Receiving core of cooper cop fan jefferson hoping to step up into a bigger role they did. Add to sean jackson. Who i wouldn't necessarily count as an improvement. I don't really think that the sean jackson at this point in his career is even anywhere close to the same player he was previously. So he's probably not going to really do a whole lot for the rams this season but the last name that you obviously mentioned robert woods who a lot of people considered to be one of the most underrated players at his position in the nfl super productive so that receiving group is going to create a lot of success. Hopefully for matthew stafford. They do lose camakers which i would like to wait to get to until we talk about regressions but they do have a pretty consistent running game. I think darryl henderson can certainly take the load over. Although this offense it should be built to be successful at stafford and that wide receiver group really is built to do what sean mcvay loves to do. He is really good at manipulating defenses. He gets into a personal grouping. He likes that matches up. Well with what. The defense doesn't do well and then he just calls so many different plays out of the same look and the rams have a pretty talented receiving group that can do a lot of different things and really create plays in space and adding matt stafford's arm inability to attack deep will unlock areas of the field for them that they just didn't have before hand. Losing camakers definitely hurts in like. I said we'll get to that but darryl henderson. He's a he's a he's a running back. I liked coming out of college. I loved his contact balanced. his ability. To just shrug off tackle attempts keep running it if he gets a good opportunity with the rams and they're able to do what they want with the passing game. I can see them creating space for him to do what he does. Best and then. Also one of the most surprising draft picks. I think for both of us was the rims first draft. Pick a to at well. Who is on one. Hand incredibly electrifying with the ball in his hand on the other hand for an nfl player. He is tiny. Yeah the first draft pick. you're talking about. They didn't have a first round selection from all these moves that they make by shipping off all these draft picks to to bring in some big stars one of them being jalen ramsey their first pick is to to the receiver out of louisville who. I've certainly questioned his size and his ability to be successful..

Arguably, the biggest game added is the Ravens getting an extra home game? Versus the Los Angeles Rams. The Steelers get a home game versus the Seattle Seahawks, while the Browns extra home contest is versus the Arizona Cardinals and the Cincinnati Bengals. 19 game will come against the 40 Niners. The Super Bowl will now we move back a week the February 13th which places it directly in the middle of the Winter Olympics in Beijing. Coincidently. I'll start there marcus. Allen is great. Everyone knows he's great knowing that i'm gonna say nimoy is underrated big. I'm gonna go con over anymore. Underrated because nimoy man like he was literally doing star
Philadelphia Eagles CB Darius Slay on Matthew Stafford trade to Los Angeles Rams, what to expect from Jalen Hurts
"And all pro a pro bowler the interception leader in the entire. Nfl in the year. Two thousand seventeen now philadelphia. Eagles formerly of the lions ladies and gentlemen dairy slack pickling was good. It was good how you doing man not too shabby. I just sneezed a couple of times. Because i'm allergic to the cable companies over charging people it's unbelievable. What's going on out here. Darius i just saw you i believe you were talking about you. Stafford with the nfl films. He is leaving officially now. We'll get into you by the way i want. You know we do appreciate you coming on. We think you're baller. We'll talk about your life as well. But i would like your thoughts on something. It's happening pretty topical here. Matthew stafford is going to the los angeles rams night. The guy who wore number nine put out a nine minute video via the detroit. Lions which basically was emotional. It was a beautiful watch. Evan fox diehard lions van damme. your. I almost cry me so there was. Yeah yeah me too. I got a little. What if there's a lot of people i think are about to be introduced to matthew stafford. 'cause when your quarterback for the lines are not necessarily on prime time television all the time except for maybe thanksgiving. He's an absolute stud. And i think a lot of people are about to learn that. Do you feel the same way as somebody that was shared a field with him. For what six seven years or whatever in detroit and he got mad they gotta gotta go be unbelievable down man on the la. He's a very talented man. Smart guy he will work hard and He's a great leader. Man lead by example. He approached practice. The right way Like i never seen it. professionals is a long time and he. He's he's the man what is what do you think he's gonna do to that team. And that offense obviously he and mcveigh both guys of alpha personalities. But it seems like stafford. Also is one of the tougher quarterbacks ever to play the game i know he played with. What a broken back. Like what do you. What do you think he does instantly for that office. Up thinking to bring a lot of like know accuracy. Deep ball guy He will carry a team man go he could take any low In low you wanna give him you know. Click gays comeback. Like i said for longest man. Staffer was only missing a great defense in our Around half a great defense. Becky continue to get the ball back when i was at time. Stafford was putting up thirty points. Defense flutie given up thirty points to as well so but guy that got a defender keeping twenty point under seventeen points under yes tap. Wanna put up clear. A thirty points easily. Isn't that something that's pretty interesting is. We're talking to darius like corner for the philadelphia eagles. Now isn't that something interesting to think about in this is coming from a corner. Who's on defense. Is that a thought. Hey if we keep them under twenty points are guys going to be able to get an. Is that a goal going into each game. Hey now greenwich last shutout. We want this but the realistic like. Hey if we keep this under twenty. There's a good chance guy's gonna get that. Is that something that actually goes through your mind yet. Easily may cause you know a you see the work definitely with guys like staffer. Long enough man. He gets hot seagoing man. He's unstoppable star any kind of way Making the easiest Hardest make look easy. And you know that's always a defense go to have a team on the twenty. Most of the guys honestly as a quarterback league wants big status scoreboard up. I'm not going to ask you about the drama. That's been surrounding your team. Because there'd be incredibly unfair to you. You're not involved in that but jalen hurts appears to be the quarterback going into next year for you guys. What did you see. Jalen that makes you think like okay. This guy is going to be our guy. There was moments of greatness out there. I don't think everything was as smooth on offense as out of the ball last year as we would hope. But what do you think like philadelphia. Eagles fan should expect from jalen hurts. That you've seen behind the scenes. It's like hey this is. There's a reason this guy's going to be our guy now because he's a great leader as a young guy came to a chip on her shoulder. honestly man no disrespect carson. But he always felt like that was his spot. You know Causing the great guy but he came into the yoga came into the room into basic on. Take over to the office. You know as Why not disrespect me. Just as in i want to come compete against you to become this guy and i want to be the face at his team. He always had a ball always had drive in that kind of separate a lot of guys that you know. He was kind of just determined. You know is competitive. Why not disrespectfully. It just like mom. Okay to compete. You're the best rocky for the team. That's all were you surprised at all. Were any teammates surprise to see him. Like what's he like that from day one Well we already saw that. He had a lot of swagger about him ignored college. That's what we use as the term. Now as you see a goddess plan college boy he got a lot of sway. You carry yourself the right way and you can see in alabama and he you ever had to take no game bitch at a at a taleban. Dan going over. The numbers being heisman candidate. You know so. He had a lotta drive yet. A lot of a lot of stoudt loves to prove he. He's ready to prove it right now.

Report: Los Angeles Rams Trade Quarterback Jared Goff For Matthew Stafford
"Finally, a major shakeup in the NFL. The Detroit Lions have traded Matthew Stafford to the Los Angeles Rams in exchange for a 2022 1st round pick a 2023 1st Round selection, a third round pick this year, and quarterback Jared
Los Angeles Rams set to go 7 years without a first-round pick
"Don't have their first round pick this year. Jacksonville has their pick and the Jalen Ramsey trade from last year. So the Rams without a first round pick. This year. In 2022 in 2023. So the Rams going three straight years without a person round draft pick. The third round pick is this year 2021. So the In addition to getting Jared Goff, the Lions getting 2022 1st round pick 2023 1st round pick and a 2021 3rd round pick. I don't think that's a bad haul. In exchange for Matthew over 10 year and playoff win, Stafford
Detroit Lions dealing Matthew Stafford to Los Angeles Rams for Jared Goff, picks, sources say
"We don't always get this, which is breaking news on a show this late in the day, But that's exactly what's transpired approximately half hour ago, the last night's Adam Schefter first reported. That the Lions and the Rams were swapping cubes that Jared got former first overall pick in the draft is headed from L. A to Motown. Meanwhile, Matthew Stafford, former number one overall first pick in the draft several years prior to is heading from Detroit to Los Angeles to become the Rams new quarterback. No, by the way. The Detroit Lions get in addition to Gary God Not one but two future first round draft picks. At a third round draft pick as well. I'm getting reaction here on Twitter. I'd love to get reaction on my plant 855 to 124227. I think this is an over pay by the Rams. Knows Matthew Stafford is a very well respected quarterback. And most people suggest that the reason why he and I have won the same exact amount of playoff games. That would be goose egg to goose egg, um, that it's everybody else. Accept Matthew Stafford as to why the Lions have for decades under Stafford's run, have not been able to win a playoff game. I readily acknowledged that Matthew Stafford has not had a lot of help in Detroit, but I also believe that there's something to not being able to get your team. Over the top, and he just hasn't been able to do that. Yes, He's got a very good young head coach who was considered an offensive guru in L. A. I think he will step onto the peeled and have more weapons. In Los Angeles than he ever had his entire decade in Detroit. But to me, does this put a lion's up and over the top? No.

Los Angeles Rams, Green Bay Packers Preview: Goff To Start At Lambeau Field
"When i look at the rams i trust everything about the rams except the guy is going to have the ball in his hands. More time than anybody else. That jerry golf. He's a turnover. He's an accident waiting to happen and he's playing with a fractured thumb and the cold weather. And so i believe the packers defense although the not great i believe they can a few turtles out of him. Be a fumble or interceptions. Now aaron donald aaron says he feels great. Aaron donald play with a torn cartilage. Not me i had. That injury are in my ribs door to rip cartilage. Yup i tore my my real ended up when came loose my real extra protrudes a little bit now because there's not intact because the cartilage was torn. It was painful now. I don't know if anybody's ever had that skip. But sudden movements and aaron don lizzy sudden guy giving out a tooth gap and guy and even if he was. I mean just that third to feel that you don't realize how much you use your core until injure and then you realize the simple things brush not putting on your clothes brushing your hair. Imagine trying to play. Nfl football tried to move with three hundred pound man against wheel. Now you've got two hundred. Three hundred pounds man tried to move you against your will so it's going to be interesting to see not no. He's going to get the medication in there and and to calm it down in. So he's going to be very interesting. He might hip. Injury might not be as severe as my he might be able to tolerate more pain the not cooler. But that's not a very pleasant injury to play with in given that and everybody looking for the matchup everybody everybody would talk about. You know what they already talked about. Seventeen versus twenty. They will see jalen ramsey devante. Now i'm not sure how much jalen is going to travel now. I'm sure what jalen lineup was. I don't know if you've got to follow him in the slot. I don't know if he's probably left or right. But i've loved to see that. Because i know at some point in time. He's gonna have to come out on the side of with jason's zone and everybody wants to see that matchup.
